Lenovo Y50 left speaker clicking sound and muffled sound FIX !!!!!

Question: Lenovo Y50 left speaker clicking sound and muffled sound FIX !!!!!

My Y50 had the left speaker clicking sound and muffled sound from day one (last month) March 2015After much time and pain I worked out the problem was the cooling fins next to the cooling fans were flexing and I presume touching the left speaker wire which runs along under neath the cooling fins. I could get the clicking sound to happen every time if I applied a small amount of pressure on the cooling tubes that sit on top of the cooling fins.I then placed a small piece of cardboard on the left side under the cooling fins to raise them only about 2 mm and this has fixed the problem. no more damm clicking sound and muffled sound Hey Lenovo fix you effin Y50 laptop !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello,
I just bought the Y50 yesterday with the GTX 960M. Unfortunatly i noticed while playing that the left speaker started to do a clicking noise, in addition the sound became muffled. When i tilt the laptop the problem is resolved i.e. the clicing stops and the sound returns to normal. After a few minutes the same problem returns until i tilt the laptop or lift it again.
Please help.

Ok this is my first post on any tech help forum so my apologies if i miss out any key information.

Here's the problem, since purchasing my HP Pavillion dv7-1020ea laptop i have had intermittent problems with my speaker sound going muffled, quieter and losing all high tones. This is a continuous problem from the moment the computer starts and doesnt change.

My laptop runs vista 64 with IDT High Definition Audio codec and the drivers are up to date. I have tried enabling and disabling the device, it says it is working fine. Sound from my headphones works fine with none of the muffling. In the IDT control panel, the settings are set correctly, im not attempting to run surround sound or anything.

At first I thought it was a bad connection or something but suddenly the problem disappeared and never happened again for 6 months. But recently I reformatted my PC and as soon as my PC was running again the problem resurfaced. Restarting my PC sometimes fixes it but more often than not it doesn't.

Its very frustrating because I can't pin the source of the problem down. I dont think its a bad connection because it worked fine for 6 months and then when i reformatted it came back. I never experience crackling or jerky sound or short periods of good or bad sound. When i turn my PC on and it wrks, it works fine until my PC is turned off. The problem never just happens as im using my PC, it turns on with the problem, or it turns on without it.

I have all enhancements disa... Read more

So, I recently purchased a Y40-80 laptop, it arrived Monday May the 4th 2015.  It worked fine for about 3 hours when all of a sudden the sound began to cut in and out and finally stopped working.  I restarted it and tried the volume mixer, the only sound coming through was from the left speaker and it was an odd clicking/popping noise, however; if I lift the laptop up and angle it a certain way, sound will come through the speakers again.  I don't understand if it is a software or hardware problem but I need to get it fixed asap for school.  Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong? Also, I plugged in an external soundcard I use for my razer headset and plugged my headset in and the audio worked fine for my headset, but the popping noise could still be heard through the left speaker.  Any ideas? I'd rather avoid having to send it back to be fixed or get it exchanged unless I absolutely have to.  Any advice would be very appreciated.  Thank you-Jordan N

Answer:Lenovo Y40-80 Left speaker pops whenever sound should come through it.

Hi Jordan_nelson,

Welcome to the Forums

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with speaker faulty in your Lenovo Y40-80 laptop.

As you have mentioned that when you lift the laptop the sound comes back through speakers, this might be issue with the speaker as it may not be placed properly. Before sending out to service center try to uninstall the audio driver and check with windows generic driver and try to reinstall the audio driver and check for the issue.

When I'm not playing any music or watching movies, there is a strange hissing noise coming from the left speaker. I thought it was the ventilation, but  it goes away after muting the sound. What can be the cause of this? I installed the latest Realtek audio driver, still does it.

Answer:Lenovo Y500 hissing sound from left speaker.

hi Razon.

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Your issue might similar to this thread.

If you have already installed the Realtek.HD Audio Drivers vR2.71 with the same problem, can you try to use a headset / earphones.

If the sound is ok, there's probably a short on the speaker or on the wires that connects the speaker to the systemboard and you may need to contact lenovo on how to rectify this issue.

Hope this helps.

I have bought brand new Dell inspiron 3542, it has maxxaudio wave speaker. The muffling sound is emitting from laptop... The latest virson oh audio driver is already installed and the internal setting also is normal. Please help me solve this problem .... i don't know either it is hardware problem or software problem.

Answer:Muffled and Whispered sound in Inspiron 3542 from maxxaudio speaker

Rakshit Trivedi i don't know either it is hardware problem or software problem.
Hello. Test by switching to the Windows native audio driver.
1. Open the Device Manager2. Expand the Sound, Video & Game Controllers section.3. Right click on the Realtek and select to uninstall.4. Put a check mark in the option to delete the driver software, and then ok.5. Restart the laptop and go back to the Device Manager and check again for a Realtek driver. Keep uninstalling & restarting until Realtek no longer appears under Sound...Controllers and "High Definition Audio Device" appears in its place. "High Definition Audio Device" is the name of the native driver.
[The reason you might have to go through the process more than once is because the driver files for more than one Realtek driver could be on the hard drive. When a Realtek driver is removed, the next one gets installed if Windows can locate the files. Windows installs its generic driver only after all Realtek files have been removed.]
6. At this point, test the audio while the native driver is installed and see if the same problem occurs.
7. When finished testing, download and install a fresh copy of the Realtek driver for your operating system. Get it from your Dell support page. Test the audio again
If the same problem occurs with both the Realtek and the native driver, then probably not a software issue.

I have bought a new lenovo y700 gaming laptop 80NV0028US. Straight out of the box, it is making a periodic clicking noise every second. When this clicking noise happens, the sound gets muffled as if sound from speakers is blocked and only the subwoofer is working. This happens when the laptop is kept flat on  a table. Frankly this is very irritating and something I do not expect from a laptop that cost me $1K.

Answer:lenovo y700 sound blocked and clicking sound

Have same problem and also closing lid without a full shutdown gives random crap results when you open and laptop wakes. Disabled touch pad, disabled keyboard, disabled touch screen, disabled WiFi, disabled sound.. With the price, shouldn't have to gamble on what will be off each time I close and open the lid and will be off or on at restart!

However when I plug external speakers, the sound is ok but the clicking persists. When I disable the Realtek High Definition Audio in device manager the clicking stops. The clicking also goes on and off randomly but most of the time, it's on. Windows 8.1 64bit

Hello,
Recently after opening up my computer for the first time and installing a new video card (SAPPHIRE 3650) I have no sound in the left speaker of anything, while the right speaker is perfectly fine. My new headset, my speakers that came with the computer and my old headset all don't have left speaker sound. I have checked the balances and they are all equal, if I turn them to the left I get no sound at all.

When I installed the latest ati drivers I disabled the hd sound drivers that it has so it the sound would work. The sound still doesn't work in any left speaker after a reinstall of windows I did a few days ago.

You can configure through the sound manager application of your system. For instance, if your system uses a Realtek HD Audio, you can configure the speaker using Realtek HD Audio Manager.

The problem is REALLY weird, but I know the source, I think.

I've tried multiple players, replugging in the speaker wire and messing with where the sound should come from, none helping.

However, I recently got a headset, and I'm pretty sure it's the reason my system reconfigurated itself... The headset has one speaker part (which is weird, I need to return it anyway) and it's on the right side, and when I move the speaker volume to the left side it goes silent.

So for some reason my left speaker = right, and vice versa, and it only wants to give output from the side where I have my headset speaker part.

I hope that was clear enough..

A couple of weeks ago I noticed I was only getting sound from the left speaker. I have a 3 piece altec lansing speaker system (2 speakers and one sub). I could make sound come from both speakers if I pulled the cord going from the computer to the sub out of the sub a little bit, but it was just the sound coming from the left side being played on both sides, so I was still missing sound supposed to be playing on the right side. I just bought another set of the same exact speakers, and the same thing thing is happening, so I'm assuming there's something I need to do with the computer, not sure what though. I have a soundblaster live sound card, any help would be appreciated.

Hey guys, just got my new laptop (Toshiba L650) with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, plugged in my external sound card (default 5.1 surround from Maplin) and updated to the windows 7 driver.

I only have three speakers and the sub plugged in (front right, left and centre), which is the exact same configuration I had on XP and Linux Mint. For some reason there is no sound coming through my left speaker.

Front right speaker plays correctly
Front left and front centre sounds all come through the front centre speaker

All cables plugged in and working properly.

The problem is that the rear speakers sound quieter or muffled from the front and center speakers in my headphones

I tried everything I could think of to make the rear sound like the front but nothing has worked

I know that my rear speakers are not defective because if I switch the front wire and rear wire around the rear speakers sound like they should

I donít know whatís making the rear sound so off

Someone Help

Overall the headphones sound great but the 2 rear speakerís just throw away the whole 5.1 surround headphone feeling

I tried contacting www.speed-link.com

But they have poor service

I'm not the audio guru here... but from what i've seen about the medusa 5.1 headset is that it is a USB headset. Is yours?

I've got the X-fi fatal1ty FPS and a pair of Zalman Theater 6 headphones. Here is how I hook it up.

See the 3 plugs White is Front - Gray is rear - Black is sub

The Black goes in the far right, Gray goes next to it, white next to that, and my mic goes on the far left.

These headphones are fantastic and have a perfect surround sound field.

Hi,

First post here.

The problem is that I am getting no sound from my left hand PC speaker. The right hand one is playing fine. I have unplugged them from the back of the tower and plugged them in again and this makes no difference, although I did hear some very, very low sound from the left speaker while the plug was halfway back in the tower.

I have tried another set of speakers and the same thing is happening with them, so I know the speakers themselves are not faulty.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Rich.

Answer:No Sound From Left Hand PC Speaker

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Sounds like a faulty socket to me. Are you using onboard or a separate soundcard?

If onboard, then try a separate soundcard. If you`re already using a separate soundcard, then try the onboard sound.

My left speaker has a popping sound intermittently.  It usually starts up after I put more demands on the processor.  I have tried the following: 1. Updated all sound drivers2. Set the minimum processor speed to 100%3. Lowered the fidelity to 16 bit, 48000 Hz It has not gotten better.  Very frustrating.

I've tried seemingly everything, but the left speaker literally drowns out the right speaker. There is sound from the right speaker, just not much at all.

I have to set the L/R ratio this extreme (http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/6579/forumcw2.jpg) to get equal sound, and as a result I have to crank the volume up very high to compensate.

I don't know what it could be. I've even checked the actual cords that connect the speakers to eachother and to the computer, but nothing. Please help!

This leads me to believe that there is something wrong with the back connection or something.

In my opinion it?s a hardware (speaker) malfunction. I think only the speaker replacement can solve this problem. I propose to contact the service partner.
The right service partner you can find on the official Toshiba website.
If the warranty still valid, all changes will be done for free.

Hi,  I've noticed lately that my Spectre has been making a weird clicking sound whenever I run my laptop. The clicking seems to come from the top left corner of the laptop and it stops whenever I put my computer to sleep or shut it down. It is quiet and I can't usually hear it in a noisy room, but if I am in a quiet place it is impossible to unhear it and it is very annoying. Is there a way to fix this without having to replace any parts?

Over the past few weeks I have been getting a crackling sound on my harman/kardon laptop speakers. The crackling seemed to be more from the left hand speaker. But now, the spekaer is almost dead. the sound is very faint. The right handspeaker is fine.
It all seemed to develop after I had installed a Windows XP update. I then got an error message when I logged in so had tro download a fxi from the windows web-site. Ever since then , the speakers has slowly gotten worse.

Any ideas? On what the problem is and how to fix it?

I had no problem with sound until I installed Winamp 2.91 and when I played my CD there was no sound coming from the left speaker. I checked my QCD Media Player, which played fine before this and it too was only playing sound from the right speaker as well as my other two media players which played fine before this. The only media player I have which plays from both speakers now is Windows Media Player. I uninstalled Winamp and yet the problem persists.
What could be disabling the left speaker in my other players and yet allowing it in Windows media player? Also, the odd thing is that, when I use the other media players, which now only play through the right speaker, I have use of the features on the CD unit such as the headphone jack and the advance button (to advance to the next track) but when I use Windows media Player I do not have use of these features. Confusing.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Angie

Answer:(Resolved) Lost left speaker sound

probably the balance has been shifted to the other side. go to the control panel and to sound. You can also click the volume icon in the systray. now check that all the volume balance are placed in the middle or not. Now open the media player that are causing problems and check that whether the balance has been shifted or not.
let us know
good luck!

Hi, I have just purchased a Toshiba Satellite L650.

For some reason the sound is only coming out of the left speaker and no sound is coming out at all from the right speaker. Also even though I raise the volume the sound still seems very low. I have looked at and played around with settings and even speaker balances without luck.

Please help.

Answer:Satellite L650 - No sound from left speaker

Hi Rick1968,

Theoretically the left speaker could be defective and needs replacing...
What you can do is checking the sound settings where you can test different balances. Furthermore make sure that newest sound driver from official Toshiba website is installed.

By the way: Are you running preinstalled Windows version from Toshiba?

Hello
Sound is coming out of speakers and only the left headphone simultaneously. I already tried headphones on other devices and they work perfectly. Same thing happens with every headphone I use on the notebook. Still can't tell which is the problem, is it a hardware thing or maybe a software setting issue? This happened right after an update of windows 10, I've searched online for similar cases but haven't been lucky. I would really appreaciate any help.
Thanks in advanced!
ps: sorry if there are some miss spellings, I´m doing my best :)

Answer:Sound from speaker and left headphone at same time

Right-click the sound icon in the taskbar (bottom right) and select Playback Devices from the context menu.
Select the current playback device in use and by default it should be the speakers. change to headpones click OK
then change back to speakers.
see if that makes a difference

Hi,I have a HP-Pavilion m7-1015dx. It's 5 yrs old. My speakers were working just fine when suddenly I saw that the beats audio left speaker suddenly started crackling. I then checked and I found out that when I increased the bass in the beats audio control panel, the crackling increased. I tried troubleshooting and disabling and enabling the audio driver but nothing happened. What should I do?P.S. The right speaker is working just fine.

OS: Windows XP Pro SP1
Speakers: Atlantec Lansing 3-piece
Audio Playback: Intel Integrated Audio

The right speaker plays fine, as does the subwoofer. The left speaker does not play. I checked it with an audio meter to see if output was being sent. It was, but at about 20 db lower than the right. Also, if I cranked the volume, and set the Winamp output to left speaker, I could faintly hear the subwoofer and right speaker. Under normal circumstances, though, I don't hear anything if I set output to only the left speaker (not even the subwoofer plays). The problem appeared, seemingly randomly, a few days ago. I don't think I noticed it for maybe a day or so.

I'm on Fedora (Linux) as of now, and it all works fine. Anything I normally could do, I can do. I tried cold booting Windows before this, and that didn't work. I tried both my regular 3-piece set, and a pair of headphones. Both left speakers failed to play on Windows, but both do fine on Fedora (playing with XMMS). Certainly, neither WMP, Winamp, or Quicktime on Windows produced any sound in the left speaker. I did nothing out of normal, other than investigate some Winamp options. Also, I've never seen the Windows-provided ability to mute one speaker and not the other.

Any ideas?

Hey guys! I need help with a sound issue I have on my computers at home using an Altec Lansing Multimedia Speaker system 2100 (2 speakers and a sub) and Win7 Home Premium (64-bit). In Windows XP I used to simply plug the speakers in the output of the computer (green jack) and sound would go to all speakers but now with win7 sound is only played from sub and right speaker, while the left speaker does nothing. At first I thought the left speaker may be busted, but when I switch the right and left jack connections behind the sub, the left speaker plays (through the Right speaker output) and the right speaker stops playing. So I tried putting the 2.1 sound system on an XP computer to make sure it still works fine and it does. Any ideas?

Answer:No sound in left speaker using Altec 2.1 system in Windows 7

You need to change the sound settings. Open control panel. Make sure the view is set to small icons. click Sound. Right click your sound card and select Configure speakers. You should select one of the boxes under Full Range Speakers. If it doesn't work after the speakers are properly configured, then double click your sound card and you be able to change more options from there. You might also have an icon for you sounds card in control panel that options can be changed through. The main thing to look for is a 2.1 option.

Based on what you have written under you system specs, it looks like you are using the basic default Microsoft drivers for your sound card. Installing the latest drivers from you manufacturer would help solve any sound issues.

Hi all. Long time..........

I just went behind my wife's back and bought a few upgrades for the computer.....Now I have to show their worth.....or else....lol

I bought a new hard disc. The WD caviar Black 1 TB
I bought a second (used GTX260) so I could finally visit SLI land....

And I bought a sound card. My first ever. I always have cheaped out in the past on sound....going with onboard sound...

So I bought a nice new Soundblaster X-FI Titanium.

I installed everything at once. Did a new install of windows and the day and a half of updating of the software.....Jeez that sucked.
I finally have everything working, except this rear speaker thing. Setting up the Mic was a bugger too, but I think I have that done.

Here is the issue. When I do a channel test, you can hear the test signal from all the channles fine, but when you get to the rear left, it comes out of the subwoofer, very faintly.
I have read tons of posts from angry folks who are having similar probs with this. Some say its the cables....(even though they worked fine on onboard sound) Some say I have to disable the onboard sound in the mixer....etc.

I have come here to see if any of you fine folks have a solution that works.....

Sorry for the long post......Thanks for taking the time.
Ps, I am running Vista service pack 2
speakers are the Z5500 using the 6 channel direct. (3 stereo jacks)
(I was thinking of going to toslink to see if that helps)

Cheers.
Corey.

Answer:Solved: No sound from rear left speaker, X-fi Titanium.

Okay. First let me apologize to the 62 people who read my post. Sorry, I am an idiot.
I thought I had checked and rechecked everything before posting, but I missed a loose wire where my rear speaker wires connect to the wall plate where they go in wall up to the location on my back wall.....I reconnected the wire, and bam. It works great.
I was also able to figure out how to get my pc to output digital audio through the card to my z5500 speakers...
You have to start the Creative audio service. To get to it, I had to type something into the search bar just above the start button. Of course stupid me, I did not write down what it was....
But if you read this post, its a good place to look....if you are having probs with your digital output.

Thanks

I just received a new T430 less than a week ago, and ever since I first handled it, the left palmrest has been making clicking/snapping sounds even under light pressure. This region of the palmrest appears to be above the SmartCard reader. Video of this phenomenon is below. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEJ8fTzBqWE Is this normal? Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

Answer:T430 left palmrest clicking/snapping sound

Call Lenovo sales department and ask for an exchange. I got my replacement T530 and it still squeaks where the right latch is below the right latch square hole..  So, a second replacement Thinkpad is on the way.  I am just going to keep asking for replacement until there is no squeak on the palmrest. I think that is pretty fair request to ask on a new laptop.

My equim A200 is making weird clicking sounds on the left part of the laptop.
I have no idea what this could be but every day it seems to get worse then some days it will go all together.

Could someone please help as I need to know whether to get a new laptop because I have a lot of important stuff saved on this one.

Thanks.

Answer:Clicking sound of the left part of the Equim A200

Hi

Clinking noise on the left?
Hmm?. possibly it?s generated by cooling module or the HDD.
On the left you can find the cooling modules (cooling grilles) and the HDD bay? in my opinion it?s one of these both parts.

My HDD clicks from time to time? I don?t know why but sometimes I can hear such clicking noise. I doubt it?s a HDD malfunction but I have created the backup of my files on the HDD. This is always advisable and should be done.
I mean the HDD crash can happens always and in such case a backup can spare many troubles?

hi there, i just got myself an x100e and still configuring by myself on how to use it. it runs on windows vista with 250gb. this is my first time using a lenovo and windows vista product. just a little question. i have plugged in my headphone into the audio jack. but, the sound still came out from the internal speaker. also, how do i enable the internal and external microphone? i've been experimenting with the 'sound recorder' function to know whether the mic is working or not. but, i did'nt hear any sound being recorded although i have been speaking loudly on the internal mic which located below the 'ctrl' key. or, did i got the position wrong? about the headphone, i have tried using the 'sound' in the control panel. amazingly, when i test the headphone function over there, it works fine. i mean, i hear the sound in the headphone. but, if i were to play any audio using other apps such as youtube or windows media player, the sound still came put from the internal speaker phone, although i have plugged in my headphone at the same time. am i missing something? or should i change any setting over there?  also, i keep on hearing clicking sound from my laptop. not sure whether it is coming from my hard disk or not. the clicking sound is similar to the ticking sound from a moving seconds dial on a clock. the sound usually came out whenever i am running any programs on the laptop. so far, the laptop is working fine, but, just curious about the sound.. a... Ive had the kind of same problem with what i think is the hard drive. If its sitting quit, it sound like the hard drive is spooling up and then clicks, then spools, then clicks. If I run a program that takes any computing power, it clicks away. It come from the right side of the computer, below the enter key, on my laptop. Right now there isn't anything I can do. As i need the laptop for school and if I sent it off to lenovo it would take time to get it back. Right now I am saving everything to my google documents for the time being. Ive tested the hard drive on all the lenovo hard drive tests as well as seagate ones, nothing shows to be wrong. So I just have to live with the clicking until I send it back to lenovo under the warranty. To me clicking = bad. So its just a matter of time. Here is my thread for more information. http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/Thinkpad-x100e-Hard-Drive-Clicking-Sound/m-p/1... cpbs

I have an R630-11L.

Inconsistently, a sound similar to what you hear on tv when there is no signal (hissshhh) comes out from it. It porduces this sound every few days but when it comes it sticks for several hours but on and off. Restarting does not solve the problem.

Later on, I figured out if I mute the speakers, the sound goes away. Apparently it is coming through the left speaker of the laptop

It is annoying, especially when you want to concentrate on work or when you want to play an audio file while this sound is active.

I also noticed the left side of the laptop is where most of the heat is concentrated and the fan. Not sure if this is related or not.

My PC Health Monitor says everything is ok, Tempro shows no updates, and actions in the Action Center. So I believe everything is up to date on my machine.

Anyone with similar problem? Any suggested solutions?

Thanks.

You may or may not have seen my other issue with this laptop which resulted in a replacement unit.

Now for the replacement, i've had it for about a week and everything was perfect up until last night where i started hearing a crackling sound coming from one of the speakers. (At the time i was playing a racing game so the audio was engine sound, a particular range of engine note resulted in the speakers to crackle).

I was immediately concerned and turned the volume down and logged off. I came back today to test the issue and see if the problem persisted. While i have not heard the crackling sound today there is a very loud "pop" sound which comes from the left hand speaker.

The Pop sound occurs at the start or end of a sound being played. Regularly doing so at the end of a youtube video if the video is cut short by a change of webpage.

I don't want to have to request a replacement because of the hassle caused but may end up doing so if the problems cannot be resolved. I have noticed similar issues with other people's laptops on some forums so i am checking audio drivers and other software which could've created the problem.

Answer:Re: Satellite P850-12x loud "pop" sound comes from the left hand speaker

Hi

Do you have an smart audio installed on your system?
I read in one thread about more powerful sound which was produced from left speaker.
The solution was to disable the 3d immersion option available in Smart Audio.

But if your speaker hardware is affected, then this option would be useless in your case?
Maybe you would need to get in contact with the ASP again to solve this problem

I've had my Z50-70 for several months, with no real problems, but there's one annoyance.  A few months ago, the left touchpad button started making a loud clicking noise.  The right button is very quiet, but the left one makes a distinct clicking sound.  It works fine, but I'd really like to get it back to how quiet it was when I first got this.  Any ideas? Thanks,Harry

System - Windows 7 Professional 64 bit
Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-880GMA-UD2H
Sound - Realtek on motherboard
Speakers - Altec AVS300

My problem is that I cannot figure out how to get sound playing from my left speaker and also the subwoofer. It worked fine on my previous Win XP system.
As far as I can tell only the right speaker works.

The Altec systen has 2 speakers and a subwoofer with 1 leads that plugs into the motherboard. I used the Green connector on the back of the motherboard.

The realtek HD Audio Manager does not a a 2 speaker plus subwoofer configuration.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Answer:Realtek no sound in left speaker or subwoofer using Altec AVS300 speak

I think your stereo cable has the problem, try connect with your TV or ipod and see if both speakers and subwoofer are working or not. If not, then you may have to buy a stereo cable. Hope this helps

Please tell me what should i do? I have done multiple reinstalls of the driver but nothing worked. I have decided that its a hardware fault, just trying my luck here.

Answer:Inspiron 15 5559 i7 6th gen, left speaker sound crackling on high levels

Hi virengupta13,Thanks for posting. If the noise is only coming through one of the speakers and it is not there when you listen through headphones, then the speaker probably needs to be replaced. If you are still under warranty you can contact Tech Support, but before you do remove all media players except Windows Media Player, or else you will be denied warranty service.

So the two speakers I use for my computer are not completely working. When plugged into my computer, the main speaker with the controls and stuff gives out sound but the other speaker doesn't.

I tried plugging the speakers instead into my phone and both speakers had sound coming out, so I thought it's probably the audio jack on the computer that is the problem.

Is there any way to maybe replace the jack or use the other jacks on the computer for the speakers?

Answer:Speaker jack works but the left (of 2 speakers) doesn't output sound

Hi Questionerer,

Seen as though you have tested with your mobile phone and sound IS coming out of your two speakers, it is safe to say that the speaker is not at fault.

I think that your computer is outputting sound panned right, in other words its only sending the audio information to the left side speaker.

To help you with this problem and to eliminate any driver problems please can you do the following:
Go to: Start > Type: msconfig.exe - Press Enter
Go to the tab 'Boot'
Bottom of the window there are check-boxes, tick the one called 'Boot log'
Press Apply/OK
Shutdown the PC
Wait 10 seconds
Turn on PC
Go to - C:\Windows and find a file called ntbtlog.txt
Upload this file to this thread
Thanks

My Dell Inspiration laptop will not boot up past the initial windows loading screen. For a little while it had been getting to the login screen, but not now.  Half the keys on the keyboard do not work, whole right half.  So, even when it would get to the login screen I couldn't type in my password.  We plugged in an external keyboard and that worked fine, until it stopped booting past the loading screen...The cursor is erratic. The speakers are making a clicking sound occasionally like the dilophasaurus in Jurrasic Park. Usually on start up.I did drop it last night but not from very high up. Could be a virus maybe?  I don't have any antivirus right now because I was stupid... I was in the middle of switching antivirus software. Is there anything I can do at home to help it?  It is brand new, only a couple months old, no warrenty though because I got it refurbished off Ebay.  Windows 7 operating system.

Hi, I've been searching google thin and tried numerous fixes and nothing so far has worked. I just bought an used Lenovo ideapad u410 and a week later the internal speakers suddenly stopped working. External/headphones still work flawlessly, but the internal speakers won't make a sound. So far I've tried these things:Updating drivers manually.Deleting drivers and let windows update them itself.Deleting drivers and installing the default windows drivers.Checking the internal speakers is set as standard, not muted and that the jackstick isn't stuck or jammed.Restoring the computer to factory settings.Restart audio services.I probably tried some other stuff too that I forgot. When I got the computer there was windows 10 installed, so I tried to do a clean install of windows 8.1. This made the sound come back for a few days, then it disappeared again like with windows 10. I then tried upgrading back to windows 10, didn't work. Rolled back to 8.1, didn't work. I'm considering doing a clean install of windows 7 at this point, because I'm desperate. At the momemt I got 8.1 installed and I have tried installing and deleting the drivers numerous times, with no success.Anyone got any ideas as to what I can do next besides doing a clean install of windows 7?

Answer:Lenovo u410 no sound from internal speaker

If you right click on the speaker icon in the tray and select playback devices, do your internal speakers show up there with a Green check mark, and if not, if you right click in the Playback window and select Show Disabled Devices and Show Disconnected Devices. do your internal speakers show as disabled?    If so, right click on them and select enable and then set them as the default.     Also try disabling the other playback devices (unplug them too) to see if that helps. It sounds like yoiu may have already checked that, and it is not the issue, espeically since it sounds like (no pun intented) ,that you have restored the system, but it never hurts to check.  Drivers and software aside, most sound card jacks mechanically mute the internal speakers when an external jack is pugged in, so perhaps the jack itself is broken and is not switching back to the internal speakers when the headphones are unplugged.   .

Hi Zaker_Choudhury

Welcome to the Community Forums
If you have Realtek HD Audio Manager Go into your realtek audio manager similar to this link. If there isn't an icon in the bottom right, go to control panel, hardware and sound, realtek hd audio manager. In the top right there is a "device advanced settings" where you can select to make your outputs as 2 different streams
Then you may just adjust volume on each.
Another option within windows under playbackChoose properties Listen and Level tabs to change.

Software tools can also be helpful similar to Virtual Audio Cable .

Physical modifications via splitter audio jack to USB  is also an option.

Update us how it goes for you.

Hi I just got a new Lenovo Yoga 710 14IKB today and i've been noticing that sometimes when I'm watching video's on Youtube the sound only starts playing after 5 seconds. So the video is already playing but the sound starts at 0:05 (the delay is always the same amount of time). I don't have this problem with every video, it seems to be a random thing and it only happens when watching videos on speaker, the problem does not happen when I'm listening through my earphones. It's not a major problem but it's still quite annoying. Is there a way I can fix this myself? I'm not realy knowledgeable when it comes to these kind of things, the only thing I know how to do is reinstall the drivers.

hi aakash201,

Can you try the following:
1. Navigate to the Control Panel > Sound. On the playback devices, right click on the Speaker > properties > Enhancement tab and enable Loudness Equalization.
    - Sample image

When finished, play a sound and adjust the volume to your liking andobserve if the sound is now louder.

2. If you get the same problem, try to re-install the sound driver from the D:\Drivers\Sound folder or from the Z500 drivers page and observe.

Let me know how it goes.

Sometimes I dont hear it for 10 minutes but then sometimes I hear it 30 times in a minute. I am really not sure that this is normal...Can it be the HDD? I runned HDD checking softwares but they didn't find any problem.Someone said that this can be normal, but I really don't think that... I never ever heard laptop making these noises.Teh sound is coming from the left side of the laptop just under the letters; s,z,x I recorded it with a high quality zoom and attached it to this letter. Can you tell me what can this be? Hello, I've been having some issues with my laptop for awhile even though it's only one year and 2 months old to this date. Hi, I bought Lenovo S400  (configurration: Intel Pentium, 500GB HDD, 4GB RAM, Windows 7) two weeks ago and the completely new laptop started making this silent (yet annoying) clicking sound that was coming from the upper right side of the computer (yes, where hdd is located). I have had Lenovo laptops for over three years and they never made such sound. I have returned the laptop and they gave me a new one - same type. This one made the sound during its first day as well!!! I am completely exhausted by trying to solve this issue - the sound does not occur very often at first but it escalated quickly the last time and after 3 days the computer made the sound a lot more. I have run the normal tests to check the hdd and everything seems fine. Could this sound be normal? could it be a sound of a head parking? i have also read that this sound could be caused by anti-shock softwares that protect hdd from physical shocks, however, it seems this laptop has no such software running. I cannot say for sure when the sound occurs, because it seems regardless of what I do on the computer. But it started  when I was just watching a TV series and doing nothing else. Please, please help me. I do not want to return this as well and seem like a nutcase in the computer shop.

Please mute the system when this sound occurs, if after mute sound is not heard Please open Realteak Audio manager and under playback volume check if there is a option called PC beep  and mic  , Mute the same and then restart the system and check

Do give this a try and let us know

Hope This Helps

Question: muffled sound

Im having with w7 atm when i play music the sound is all muffled and screechy like its being amplified kinda like when you turn the equalizer up full. Ive gone through the sound settings but there arent any that i can see that would be causing the problem. The sound card shows up as Creative AudioPCI (ES1371,ES1373) (WDM) under device manager which is the drivers that installed automatically from windows update.

Answer:muffled sound

have you looked in control panel for the creative audio software, im not familiar with your sound card but it may have a settings panel in control panel.
,has this recently started happening have you installed any sound software recently and have you had an update that may have affected it?
if its a fairly recent thing then maybe a system restore to the point before it started happening will help.

Question: Sound Muffled

I've noticed that the sound on my HP dv7 laptop seems more muffled that it used to. I was trying to watch a video with the volume on low last night and I couldn't really make out what was being said. Usually this is fine.

Any ideas? - I checked the speaker drivers in control panel and apparently they are up to date and working okay.

I'm running win 7 RC by the way. Before that it was vista.

Answer:Sound Muffled

did this whappened when you started using W7? Drivers for audio on laptops almost always contain software that will enhance the quality of the sound produced by the speaker(s), a thing that can't be done with generic drivers.

I've tried everything from checking all the settings, making sure nothing is muted and making sure all the confirgurations are correct. I've installed driver after driver after driver but doesn't help. I've searched everywhere on the net but couldn't find a solution, I have broken my Icemat headphones over this becuase I got so mad that my sound don't work right and I can't seem to fix it. So please will someone help me out with this problem. My sound was working great before the reformat

Some days ago I started noticing that the sound coming from my PC suffered from some kind of muffled distortion. I use earphones and theyre perfectly fine, since they work properly with any other device.

Windows 7 x64 (Completely updated according to automatic updates)
Realtek High Definition Audio

This kind of muffled sound occurs at random times in a video, song, etc, I honestly cant specify when does the distortion occur, its mainly a few times at random.

I connect my earphones to an audio entry in the volume and bass control wheel of my speakers and sub woofer.

What have I done recently that could have affected the sound?

-As I had said before, the earphones work perfectly fine, but the sound distortion occurs with all the earphones I have tried. So discard this.

-Recently I removed my speakers' cables which are connected to the sub-woofer, and the sound problem has started occuring closely to when I plugged them back again. This made me think that I messed up with the cables connected to my sound system, but unfortunately this isnt the problem, since when I connect my earphones to the PC tower audio entry, the muffled distortion occurs aswell.

Basically I must discard the effectof any peripherals and therefore believe that the problem revolves to the sound card

Answer:Muffled Sound in PC

Not sure what help this might be, but keep it in mind while you troubleshoot:

If the audio entering an amplifier is too high, it will muffle. FOr ex: your computer sound is turned up, sending high amounts of ausio to powered-external speakers. those speakers will then have bad distortion, mostly at high olume points in the ausio track. (also sometimes at high bass points). try turning your pc volume quite low and see if the problem presents with standard, unamplified headphones directly connected to the pc. If this solves it then it is an amplifying problem almost guranteed.

Question: Muffled Sound

Hey everyone. I just installed a new sound card (upgrade from O/B sound), when i play music like in Windows Media Player it sounds great. But when i play videos like on You tube its all muffled. What would cause this? Thanks.

Answer:Muffled Sound

It's probably just from the low bitrate used on online videos. The sound quality of those is bad because of it. If your sound is good with good audio files, then there's nothing wrong with your setup.

Answer:Muffled Sound in PC

I would go to Realtex and download the driver from their website. Microsoft's device drivers are generic the ones from the manufactures are better.

If you installed any drivers for your graphics and audio from Microsoft I would download and install the latest from the manufactures website.
Also do you have any codec packs installed? E.g Codec pack lite etc...?

About 4 days ago, when I started playing music over the speakers I noticed that the right speaker was wayy quieter than the left one. The one on the left sounds like it should at a medium level of volume. I've already tried directing all sound through one over the other and the diffference is significant. I've also tried playing music that is mono such that the same level of audio is expected through both speakers. I can't determine whats wrong and this is so upsetting only having had this laptop for about 2 months or so. Could you help me out?

Answer:Lenovo y510p right speaker much quieter than left speaker

hi pmadhikar,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Can you consider doing the following:
1. Uninstall the Realtek Audio Driver (reboot if necessary) and let Windows use a generic sound driver and observe
2. Use an earphones to see if the volume on the left / right speakers are balanced.

If the volume is balanced using an earphones without adjusting the sound levels under Sound Properties then it's likely that the right speaker is showing signs of imminent failure. In this case, I recommend you report your findings by contacting lenovo as you may need to get this replaced.

Hello,  I am using 3000 N100 0689-6TA Note Book and my warranty got expired on 29-07-2007. I am getting a very poor quality and low volume of sound from my Notebook speaker and when I tried to connect with USB TV Tuner card since then I am getting an extra sound along with the TV channel sound, it produces some noise kind of sharp sound. It is very irritating to hear. I have to make mute to avoid this. If I connect to headphone then the clarity of the sound is good and there is no noise in the sound, I can listen clearly. After using the TV Tuner card this problem starts. Can you please tell me the reason why I am getting such noisy sound every time and even restart of notebook also doesn?t work? Is there any specific reason? Please help me.   Thanks,Biresh

Answer:Getting a sharp noisy sound from my Lenovo Notebook speaker.

Looks like there is a drivers' conflict between your  in-board Audio card and USB TV tuner.  Perhaps, there are  new drivers for the audio card and the TV tuner from the internet that can correct the problem. It would be good to try to install new drivers and see what happens.

Hello Sorry If this is in the wrong place but I couldn't find a board for IdeaPad 700. I've had this laptop for a decent while (almost a year) and although it hasn't really bothered me much in the past, it's really starting to bother me now as I'm now usually in an area with more people (libraries, lecture theatres etc.). Everytime I start up my laptop, I can hear a constant crackling sound (which would continue until I shut down the laptop but would continue again right as I turned it back on) and sometimes a beep or two but mainly from underneath my laptop where the fans are located or where my right speakers are located. I'm not sure if it is a sound card issue or a driver issue as I don't hear anything like that through my headphones and the sound is perfect, however, the crackling noise still continues on my laptop itself. When I play music or watch any video through my speakers, the sound from the left speaker seems fine but the sound from the right speakers sometimes becomes distorted and you can hear like a quiet mumbling sound of the music or video underneath. I've also noticed that when I am using my scroll wheel on my mouse or scrolling using my touch pad, the crackling gets louder but as soon as I stop scrolling, it goes back to its "normal" crackling sound. I'm not sure if this is enough information but I really have no other idea of how to accurately describe the sound. I've also tried changing driver versions but it did not seem to work or do anything... Read more

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad 700-15ISK crackling sound (speaker?)

Hi VinceZent ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Try booting on the BIOS using the Novo key (item6 page6) to turn on and press a bit on the scrolling on the touchpad.
Check if same sound appears booting on another live media is available.

Reviewing the placement of the touchpad to the systemfan and right speakers , I think mechanically is an issue with the fan. Pressure can be done by the touchpad passing it to the fan and underlying structure including the speakers as ,maybe just a cable on the wrong place since expected that it would be silent on this model.

You don't have to change on the softwares but I would encourage you giving technical support a call for in warranty service and option that you can decide on.

Hope this help answer your query.
Update us how things go.

Hello,I've owned my lenovo y580 idea pad for about 5-6 months now and I was really satisfied by the quality of it and its performance, but yesterday I've been receiving a recurring error every time I startup my laptop in the morning. What happens is that when I turn on my laptop the first time of the day in the morning is that I hear a clicking sound about three times like something is hitting itself in the computer or maybe like a spark similar to when you try to ignite a lighter. After that sound the monitor turns on and I see the lenovo start page, but after that rather than seeing the windows 7 icon I see an error screen that is black with white words saying something along the lines of a hardware malfunction or a recent installation may have caused an error and that I have three options to repair this which I can't remember exactly, but they go along the lines of contacting the manufacturer for the system installation CD, clicking to restore, basically something with booting it up. At this point I turn off the computer and turn it back on again and this time there is no clicking sound and everything turns on as normal with no signs of an error happening and I proceed to use my computer as normal. So at first I thought it was a one time thing, but since it has happened again I am worried so if anyone knows a solution for this please help.  Thank you

Answer:lenovo y580 clicking sound causes a start up error

That clicking most likely is the hdd, it could be going bad, download hdtune and look at the smart data tab for any yellow or red highlight`s Also if you have any red or yellow, you can download a hdd test util from the hdd manufactures website, hdtune should tell you. http://www.hdtune.com/download.html John.

Answer:Lenovo Z510 hard drive clicking sound

I would say your hard drive is definitely failing. Make sure you have a full backup or do one via OKR immediately. HDDs should be covered by warranty unless there are signs that the laptop has been dopped. One thing many people overlook is to make sure the pc is in sleep (lid closed) before they move it, allowing the HDD to park it's heads.

Hi,
Im having a problem which is driving me mad, muffled sound which makes speech (both in games and on youtube etc) completely inaudible. Just sounds like lots of bass and nothing much else.
I have a Foxconn G31mx motherboard which has built in Realtek audio running Windows 7 32bit. I have downloaded the latest Win7 drivers from both Foxconn and Realtek which has made no difference. I thought it may have somthing to do with a recently installed ATI 4850 gfx card as this has a HDMI port but looking at the installed playback devices all that is available is ''Speakers - Realtek high definition audio device'' which is set as enabled and default and ''Realtek digital output - Realtek high definition audio device'' which is disabled. I have tried every possible combination of enabling and dissabling the various options without success.
Any advice or help would be greatly recieved as my little girl is loosing the will to live not being able to play on Nick Juniour website lol.....
Many thanks in advance.

Evening folks.Just wondered if anyone knows what might be causing a problem I'm having with sound. Put a CD in the other day, opened WMP 10 and hit play.Worked fine, but sound was a bit quiet and flat.Equaliser set to my usual setting. Double clicked on audio icon in system tray to check the volume setting in windows. Still set ok. Decided to move the sliders for bass and treble, and as soon as I moved the treble a tiny bit, sound cleared with bass and treble coming through as good as normal.Very odd! Running xp pro, audigy 2 card (older 6.1 version, and inspire 5300 speakers. Cheers.

I am working on my neighbors computer. It's one I gave her, but I am always trying to get the best performance out of this old thing. It's a running a Mitac motherboard from a Compaq computer with a 500MHz processor, 253MB's of RAM, an ATI PCI video card and an AOpen PCI sound card.

I just reformatted and put Windows 2000 on there. It's a bit slow for the system, but W98 is so unstable and I had little success with that.

The installation went fine. I even updated the BIOS. Now it does have onboard audio, but disabled it, in one way or another, in the BIOS (It still shows up in device manager though for some reason, but that's now disabled)

I also ran into putting in possibly a hacked or virus-infected program on it and it, of course, screwed things up. Luckliy I was able to reload everything and get on with the installation of some other programs.

The problem is, that during start-up, the Windows start-up sound is slightly muffled. I tried putting in a different wave start-up, but it did the same thing. I'm pretty sure the problem isn't the sound card either, since I tested the wav in "Sounds and Multimedia" in Control Panel. It sounded fine there.

I also messed around with the advanced features in that category and changed things like hardware acceleration and such, but I really don't know what I'm doing there.

So it appears to me that the problem is in the startup boot sequence itself, right? Or what else could i... Read more

Hello all, I am having audio troubles with my Yoga 700-11ISK. It began when I noticed one day that I was not getting any sound out of the speakers. I would hear a crackling sound emitted from the speakers sometimes when I scrolled with the touchpad or the touchscreen. I do seem to be able to get sound when plugging in headphones (but the sound quality isn't good and there is static interference sound). Troubleshooting steps I have already taken: (Not listed in specific order, have retried many steps in different combinations) Static Discharge: I disconnected the AC power cord, turned off machine etc, then pressed down the power button and held for 30 seconds.Installed LSB: Conducted all diagnostic scans for hardware and software. I was not able to get sound from my speakers regardless of which sound drivers were installed. I also implemented the suggested changes to my sound settings (i.e disabling sound effects, dolbi audio effects, etc)Downloading and reinstalling all firmware/software from Lenovo: Installed up to date BIOS updates, chipset, audio controllers, drivers, etc.Inspected the internals: MOBO, wiring. Everything appears fine.Purchased and installed a new set of speakers- Just to ensure it was not a hardware related issue.Factory resetAs of today, the speaker popping/cracking sound is gone but I still am not able to get any sound. Does anybody have any additional suggestions? It's a pain, because I personally can not play games with this kind of sound, and no, it is not my speakers, because my headset does it too.. So if you guys could help, I'd appreciate it.

I just got my laptop on Wednesday, (yay,) but when I tried going on Youtube I noticed the sound is very muffled.  I compared it to my old laptop and the sound was much better on the old one.  Heck, the sound on my phone is better.  The same thing happened when I switched to Windows 10 on my old laptop so I went to Microsoft support chat.  They only told me to do the usual stuff I had already found in other searches.  The sound is still muffled and very annoying to listen to because it's like something is covering my speakers.  Can anyone help?

I have a problem with the quality of sound coming from my Logitech external speakers. When I record using INport LP Recorder the sound from my speakers is muffled and not very loud. The same applies to sounds from my Age of Empires Game. On top of that, I get no sound at all when I try and play music from iTunes. I have troubleshot (troubleshooted?) audio devices and had an error detected Hardware changes might have been detected. Another test told me that Low audio device volume had been detected. I have tried adjusting various settings without making any difference (including increasing the audio volume). Is there a not too complicated explanation/remedy?

I'm a noob when it comes to the computer world so bear with me. My laptop is about 3 years old and about a year ago, my sound started to get muffled and I couldn't hear voices when I played games. Whenever I move the earphones in the audio jack, I can sometimes pick up the voices, but I have to keep it steady of put a pillow under it to keep it like that. Is it just my computer? Or did something change?

Answer:Muffled Sound and can't hear talking.

Either the headphone jack is defective or the headphone plug. To determine which it is, use a different headphone (or the small earphones like are used on MP3 players) and see if that works properly. If it does then the jack in the PC is the problem. Unfortunately either the motherboard or a "daughter board" I/O board will have to be replaced. The jacks are enclosed and not (usually) repairable. The printed circuit boards are multi-layer and unless you have the special tools to work on a multi-layer circuit board you can't fix it yourself by replacing the jack.

One other outside possibility. A few PC's, but not all, have the option to reassign the jacks with a Sound Configuration panel. If yours has this, you MAY be able to make the "Line In" jack a headphone jack.

Hey guys, so i've had windows 10 since about a week after its release, and today I was just browsing on youtube, watching some videos, when all of a sudden the sound goes out, and I can't hear any sound from my computer with or without headphones. So I googled the problem and what did what all the threads told me to do. I ended up reinstalling my audio driver. Now i'm left with the problem. When I try to listen to any sound its all muddy and muffled, but only on my headphones. If I disconnect them then the sound is fine, so it is only a problem with the headphone jack and I know its not my headphones because I tested it on another device and it works fine. Please help me fix this problem
