I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Ideapad Z-500 - Battery firmware updated but still battery not charging

hi Aledef,

If you have the Lenovo Energy Management installed, can you check the following:

1. For Windows 7:
Ensure that Maximum Battery Life is selected

For Windows 8:
Ensure that Conservation Mode is disabled.

2. Uninstall the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method under the Device Manager > Battery
- Link to picture

When finished, reboot the machine and observe if the battery is now charing above 59%. If the problem remains, try charging the battery while the computer (about 30mins) and see if it goes pass the 59% mark.

If the problem persists, I recommend you contact lenovo on how to go about getting a replacement battery.

Hi, I suddenly encountered a battery problem in my laptop, IdeaPad Y510P. It seems like other folks have the same problem in Ideapad series.   When I plug in a charger, the laptop shows that battery is charing but, it never goes above 7% (w/ max battery life mode). According to Energy Management, battery status is fine.  After searching similar issues, I think it may be a problem with firmware, but I was not able to find a firmware update for IdeaPad series, Windows 8.1.... I have been using my laptop over a year, but never had this problem before. Can you please guide me through how to fix this issue?  Thanks for your help..!

Answer:IdeaPad battery firmware problem (not charging. battery status is fine)

After that reboot and install it back and see if there is a difference specially on the battery status. Also basing on your statement that the unit is with you for more than a year and you have not encountered any problem except recently it would seem that a battery replacement might be in order. Again before jumping into conclusion check the ac adapter and battery based on the procedure given in your hardware maintenance manual.

Dear Lenovo, After perusing the recent 2016/2017 comments by multiple users on similar posts about Ideapad Z510 battery from across locations/countries - it appears that the firmware that you had issued last year - has somehow got overwritten / superceded maybe in either late 2016  or early 2017 by some more recent/latest updates. I am writing from India and facing the same probem that the battery is showing 100% and then going off almost immediately. This probem had fortunately got solved last year when you had issued a firmware update - but now when i am trying to use the same files again - it basically conveys that "no battery available to update" because that particular firmware is already applied on our laptop. Hence, can you please release newer firmware update for this same issue -  using a z510 system having current till-date updates for different OS - win 7 / 8 / 8.1 / 10 - same way as you have released for thinkpad series of laptops too on the weblink - http://support.lenovo.com/in/en/downloads/ds001322 Come to think of it - that if a fully working battery is being "prompted" as weak and "need to buy" - but actually is a fully functioning hardware - isnt it a bit of a letdown for your users??? - what to say of  some who might have already bought and replaced with newer replacement batteries - which is actually a completely avoidable cost? I am sure you need to resolve this issue soon so as to restore c... Read more

Yeasterday day I performed Battery gauge reset. After full discharge of battery my laptop turned off. I was unable to turn on. I removed battery, DVD room etc after doing many things don't know how I was able to turn on the laptop.  From today I am facing another problem. When I switch the Battery mode from Maximum to Optimize or vice versa my Laptop stops charging the battery and Laptop is turning off after discharge of full battery. I do same things after doing these things many time I become able to turn on laptop back. Now again my laptop is not charging battery because I changed the mode. Any Idea how to fix this issue? Is there any easy way to enable charging and disable charging? Like Dell utility? My OS details.: Windows 8.1 Pro

I tried to update my battery firmware after getting a message from the thinkpad tools today. the firmware installed halfway then completed with an error, it then asked me to click "ok" to shut down the laptop. now my battery gauge is showing 0%, the battery charging logo in the task bar has an "x" on it. The battery is not charging as well. i have to plug in the AC adapter to use the laptop. I tried to reinstall the firmware, however it says there is no connected batteries that need upgrading. In the battery management tool, it also shows battery condition as "unknown"  help!!!

Answer:Lenovo E420s battery indicator at 0% and not charging after firmware upgrade

I think the firmware flash went bad. You'll probably have to use your warranty.

I have a Lenovo Ideapad Z400 that was bought in 1st-2nd week of May, 2013. I have a problem that started on May 21, 2013, my laptop battery suddenly drops from 25% to 6%. I've read some posts that it requires firmware update to work normally.. This is the site

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS035310

Is there any steps needed while performing this Upgrade? Is it safe? Will it fix my problem?  By the way, I'm here in Philippines and the Ideapad Z400 was bought by my uncle somewhere in Saudi Arabia, and he delivered it to me when he got back here. I started using the laptop on May 8, 2013. Thanks..

I've purchased Lenovo Ideapad 510 seven months back. I'm not sure from how many days facing this problem. But I noticed few days before the battery is not getting charged after 93-95%. It says the battery will be fully charged after 5 mins. But even charging up to 2 hours it still says the same. Also, the battery is draining very fast, it comes at 89% from 95% within 3-4 mins. Please suggest something.

Battery is not being charged.  When I disconnect the battery and leave the AC adapter plugged in and switch on, should the tablet work.  If it doesn't (my case) does this point to the AC circuit being faulty?  If the unit is plugged in but left for a while the battery will charge up, but very slowly. It was left for 24 hours like this and only had 33% charge.

Answer:Ideapad Battery not charging

Hi PandyO,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

What is the model or machine number of your laptop?

The machine should turn on without the battery and directly plug the charger.
It would be best to follow the "Power check out guide" from the hardware manual which you can download from here on the support site.

It would also help if you have a spare charger to test with aside from using a voltmeter.

Update us how it goes.

Hey, I really need help. I'm having problems with my laptop. It's a dell inspiron 7559 and was bought around January. Recently I have seen that the battery has no longer been as hot as it used to be when I first started using it. Along with the sleeve on the tip of the screen power adapter (below the part where the adapter lights up) has started to come off, exposing the wires. The battery has continually dropped down its percentage rate ever since I bought it, and it won't go back up. It is currently at 0% battery life and it says when you highlight over the battery icon ( plugged in, not charging). It also happens to show the BIO setup when I start the computer and shows that the batteries wattage and type cannot be determined. In the BIOS setup, the ac adapter type is unknown. The battery has not been through any harsh conditions along with the laptop. I have tried removing the battery, starting up the computer with the ac adapter (which is 130 watts), then adding the battery back, and ac adapter, then turning it on, but it had no effects. If I remove my ac adapter while my computer is on ,it instantly turns off. If someone can support me with this issue, it would be gladly appreciated. Thanks.

Answer:Laptop battery not charging, battery not identified, 0% battery life

It sounds likely the charge circuit on the mainboard is damaged.  Contact Dell to have the mainboard replaced under warranty.

When I bought this computer 6 months ago, the battery worked fine, and would charge fully when the power ran down. But now for some reason, it says 1% available, battery not charging. I've tried to do a cold boot, also I've tried different power management settings, and I've tried taking out the battery and putting it back in. But for some reason, I can't get the battery to charge. Any ideas? Pete

is it possible to run this laptop without the battery pack? my last laptop  had a removable battery but this model appears to be fixed? there are screw fixings but im not sure if these will detach anything, would welcome any information on this.
when the battery is fully charged can the adapter remain plugged in? or should i remove it? i was wondering if there is a cut out for when full charge is reached or it just keeps charging as i use it, this is why removable battery packs were standard a few years ago and the laptop could run off the mains with the charger plugged in, i would rather do this than eventually have to replace a worn battery later on at more cost etc,
thanks for your help in advance

Answer:ideapad 110 - Battery charging question

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

As you found out, the battery for your model is not removable by the consumer.  A simple solution to your problem if you are using Windows 10, which I'm guessing you have, is to use the Lenovo Settings app.  One of the options of Lenovo Settings is Conservation Mode.  That mode will maintain the battery at a 50 to 60% charge level which will allow you to power the laptop by the adapter without continually charging the battery.  The Lenovo Settings app is available in the Windows 10 Store if you do not have it installed already.  Just search the store on the word Lenovo to easily find it.

Once in Lenovo Settings just click on the battery icon on the left menu.  A new screen will open on the right and in the middle of that screen will be Conservation Mode.  Just enable it.  In the event you need a 100% charge to go portable with the laptop, just disable Conservation Mode.

I would not have bothered making an account here if I could have found a fix otherwise. The battery is not charging AND it is not detected. I want to stress this because I have seen a million and one webpages for batteries that were plugged in but not charging. Mine is not detected. I have checked my power settings, I have done a power drain (take out batter and adapter, hold power button), I have restarted, I have looked for updates, and I have uninstalled the two battery things in the device manager and restarted again. I did NOT do battery gauage reset because the battery is not detected (I have Windows 8, so Energy Manager rather than Power Manager). I have not touched the BIOS because I'm wary of anything else going wrong. I bought this laptop in December. It is quite new, still under warranty, and even though I use it every day, it is still good and not bogged down or worn down in any way. I have had multiple problems since buying it, even a few right out of the box (shame on you, Lenovo), all of which I was able to fix myself. I can't imagine why I would have whatever problem I am having right now. For a short while after this problem initially occurred, I was still able to unplug the laptop and move to another outlet. So it's like the battery was actually detected. But once the battery charge ran out, I couldn't unplug anymore without immediate shutdown. Considering everything I have already tried, is it possible that the battery is bad? Can anyone help... Read more

hi brice572,

The battery on that Z500 is showing a sign of imminent failure. Can you try to perform a battery gauge reset to fully dragin the battery and reset the charge capacity. To do this, open the Lenovo Energy Management > Battery > Battery Gauge Reset (see spoiler)
 Spoiler (Highlight to read)
If the above steps doesn't work, you need to call lenovo on how to go about replacing the battery.

Hi, I have this brand new z500 and it's been useless couple of months, today I take it back in use and of course plug in charger. After about half an hour I'll start the computer and battery icon says 28% and charging, usually icon is animated but now nothing happens. Also when I unplug power cord, computer shuts down immediately, same like if  you remove battery. Could the battery has been died during the time computer was unused? Is there any way to bring it back to life, or do I have to send this machine to warranty service?

Answer:ideapad z500 battery charging stuck in 28%

Under Energy Management set the battery setting to "Maximum Battery Life".

I recently aquired a LENOVO IDEAPAD FLEX 10. I charge the battery up and then run it only on the battery until this goes flat, then back onto AC to charge the battery while using it or not. But it seems that the battery only charges up to 60%, is this normal? Ive had a look at the POWER MANAGEMENT options but dont seem to be able to find a seting for this. Any help would be appreciated!

I bought my laptop 7 months ago and it suddenly won't charge. Even when the battery is drained. I thought it might start charging after that from reading the complaints online, and it does, but the light flashes intermittently for a minute or two before dying out. When I turn my laptop on it only has 5 minutes and every time I plug it in to charge, the light either doesn't light up or it flashes for a short while. My mum bought it for me from Hong Kong and the original receipt is lost so I can't take it in to service in NZ even though it has warranty. I really want it fixed fast because I need it to study and exams are coming up right now. Thank you to any help!! Eva

Hi, My laptop is 7 months old and when it started having battery issues. The battery icon would sometimes show that it's not charging event though it was plugged in. Now, it's not charging, it has no power, and when I press the power button I don't even get three led flashes like I used to when it was dead and not charging. I really want to take it to a specialist but I have no warranty in NZ because the U410 model isn't sold here so I would greatly appreciate any help on solving this problem. Thank you Eva

I've been having issues with my battery. If I unplug the charging adapter, my laptop immediately shuts off. The battery would stay at 0% and say "plugged in, not charging". I figured the problem was the battery so I replaced it. I still have the exact same problem but the battery percentage is 54%. It neither drains nor charges. I've tried reverting my power options to their default settings. My drivers were up to date. I've uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers. And in advanced power settings I've tried restoring default settings and also changing reserver battery level for on battery and plugged in from 7% to 100%. Despite all this I still have the same initial problem.

I have an IdeaPad 500.  The A/C charger is "plugged in" and the icon says it is "charging" but there is no charge to the battery, which is now at 53% (it was 55% yesterday).   I have gone to the forum and done what they suggest (e.g. turned off the Conservation Mode).  Unlike most questions on the forum, my system says "charging" rather than "not charging".  And because it is an IdeaPad, I cannot remove the battery (at least not without opening up the case).  I am a bit worried this is a hardware/battery failure -- but I hope this forum might give me a software fix

Thanks in advance

I very recently purchased a Ideapad Z565.  The problem I have is that  after working with the laptop unplugged for  awhile I plugit in for the battery to charge.  The battery will charge for 30 seconds then the screen goes to power save mode for 1 second and then back to charging for another 30 seconds.  After the 2nd 30 seconds charging the battery icon no longer shows the computer plugged in. It also does not charge the battery.  When the batterystops charging the power indicator on the front is blinking.  If I unplug the AC adapter and replug in the sequence starts again.  Additionally, if the lid is closed the battery will charge normally.  Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks, KSquared

HiThere is a setting in lenovo energy management which limits the battery charge limt to 60% and there after stop charging tilll battery level falls down to around 55%. This is the battery protection mode(In some laptop it is optimize for battery life or similar). Just open energy management and go to battery settings by clicking the icon. So your battery might be fine.Regardd

Hello everyone, I've had myY510P SLI for about 6 months now and I mainly use it on a desk so I rarely use my battery in it unless I am traveling. I never had any issues with the battery until last night. I decided to put the battery in, but I noticed that Windows said "plugged in, not charging" and showed a blank battery. It didn't report battery statistics or anything. I tried messing around with Lenovo Energy Management but that didn't do anything. The battery status indicator LED has also been flashing red non-stop. This would be a huge dissapointment to me if I need to replace the battery that has less than 30 charge cycles on it. But I'd rather it be a battery issue than a problem with the motherboard. My Y510p has a i7 4700MQ, 750M SLI, 16GB RAM, 1TB HDD  and is running Windows 8.1 with mostly all bloatware removed. I even tried the method where you start up with no battery and uninstall it from the Device Manager and resetting the BIOS. Both didn't do anything for me. All help is appreciated, thank you!

Hello, I have a Lenovo IdeaPad S205, and have run into some trouble. The charger recently stopped working properly, and I bought a replacement - the original charger has an output of 20V, whereas the replacement has an output of 19V. However, I wouldn't think this would make a difference. This said, when I plugged in the new charger, it said "plugged in, not charging". I took the battery out, and put it back in again, as I have had a similar trouble before, and doing this fixed it. The system stayed running while the battery was out, and I've noticed the battery percentage is not going down while this replacement is plugged in. Also, the original now seems to do the same - "plugged in, not charging". Can anyone offer any assistance?

hi Ben_R,

Welcome to the Forums.

Just to verify, does the "plugged in, not charging" stops around 60%? If it is, check the Lenovo Energy Management and toggle the Power Plan from Balanced to High Performance (vice versa) and from Maximum Battery Life to Optimized Battery Health then reboot the PC.

This is the second new IdeaPad Y470 I've ordered from Lenovo in as many weeks that has the same exact problem as the first new Y470 I returned to Lenovo after only four days of use.  Simply put, the machine quits charging the battery for no apparent reason and on a completely random basis.  Note that I am fully aware of the difference between the Maximum Battery Runtime and Maximum Battery Health settings in the Lenovo Energy Management software.  The problem I'm experiencing occurs REGARDLESS of which of these two modes the machine is in, and it occurs regardless of which AC adapter is plugged in (I ordered a spare adapter with both of these machines, so the problem has occurred with four different AC adapters).  THIS IS IMPORTANT... WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURS, THE ROUND MAIN POWER BUTTON LIGHT BEGINS TO FLASH, AS DOES THE WHITE POWER LIGHT IN FRONT OF THE TOUCHPAD.  ALSO, THE BATTERY LIGHT IN FRONT OF THE TOUCHPAD FLASHES RED.  When these three lights are flashing, mousing over the battery icon indicates that the machine is running solely on battery power, with no power being supplied from the AC adapter even though it is properly plugged in.  It doesn't even say "plugged in - not charging"...it's as if the AC adapter is not even plugged in.  And btw, the battery in both of these machines was properly installed.  This machine is only a week old, and this problem started within one da... Answer:IdeaPad Y470 Battery Charging Issue

Did you check the polarity of your wall outlet? Are you using a extension cord, from the wall, to plug in the adapter? I know the AC adapter doesn't have a three pronged plug, but the 2 pronged plug has a "fat" end that must be inserted correctly for the adapter to function properly. I've seen houses where some fool electrician has reversed the outlet wiring.  Buy a cheap AC Outlet Ground Tester like this: http://www.amazon.com/Electrical-Receptacle-Outlet-Ground-Tester/dp/B0012DHVQ0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qi... Just a thought. I don't believe it's a problem in 2 DIFFERENT laptops, so I would look for a solution somewhere else. DragonRider

I have LOVED my Lenovo ideapad Y650. However, yesterday it stopped charging the battery. I was sitting there typing when all of a sudden windows started acting like it wasn't plugged in anymore. I pulled the plug out and it made the normal *beep* that it does when you plug/uplug it. THe LED on the case also changed indicating it had been plugged and unplugged. On windows though it still indicated it was running off battery and my battery was draining. I then tried an alternated power adapter and battery with the same result. Hardware indicated it was charging, software indicating it wasnt charging and actual battery not taking the charge. I found that if I turn the system all the way off, take the battery out turn it on just plugged in it will run fine and recognize being plugged in. If I then reinsert the battery it will charge the battery for a while but then start to malfunction again.  PLEASE HELP. I am in school and cannot afford another laptop. My life is on this thing

hi there.              I have Ideapad S510p laptop with Windows 10 Pro. It shows 1% and charging but it won't go any further for hours and after some hours it would show notification pop up that its battery has gone to 0%. yes the battery is old but it should show only 1%. Why is it doing that? any solution to this? Also what can i do to caliberate new battery and that it shows correct time and notifications? Please help me with this.

Answer:Ideapad S510p battery not charging and stuck at 1%

Hi Sentient,

Greetings.

I would suggest trying to remove the AC charger and battery and follow recommended power check out from the hardware manual (page 21-22 Checking operational charging and Checking the battery pack).

Without the AC adapter and battery, press down the power button for 30 seconds to drain remaining flea power and try to connect the battery and AC adapter back after 1 hour (placing the battery in a dry room temperature).

Without turning the laptop on, allow it to stay connected with the charger for 1-2 hours as it should show the battery indicator LED to change from solid amber to fast blinking amber to slow blinking to white LED as shown in the status indicator guide (page28).

Above direction would at least give hint on the hardware integrity of the battery.
Otherwise, if the issue is with software detection, you may check on the same steps described here in this discussion.

Update us how things go.

Hello; my ideapad S405 inconspicuously shut off on me today. The battery will not charge (the small light that lights up when plugged does not light up), and the computer will not turn on. It was noted at 58% battery life, plugged in, and running on the lenovo energy plan of 'Optimized battery Life', before suddenly shutting off, and no longer turning on. The battery however, when put into the computer, still makes the battery light blink red, so there is some energy in the battery, but not enough to turn on the computer. I am guessing right now, that this is a random battery discharge; but even then, that is only a very obscure guess. I've left the battery still in the computer, with the AC adapter inside (not charging). I'm currently unsure what happened, and if there is a way to fix it. information on what is happeneing to my computer would be greatly appriciated.   _____________________________________________________________ Side note: The system does not run on AC power alone.

Answer:Ideapad s405: Not charging, and suddenly ran out of battery power.

Hi Chan-Man and welcome to the community,

It sounds like there's a problem with the ac adapter or the port that it plugs into, but let's try something first.

Take out the battery, unplug the ac adapter and press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.  Do that 2 or 3 times, then plug in just the ac adapter and see if it starts.  If it starts, put the battery in while the machine is on and see if it starts to charge.

If that doesn't work, then I would look at the ac adapter or the charging port being bad.

 Do you still have warranty?

Regards,
Dave

My lenovo s10 netbook, with windows 7 and XP isn't charging anymore. I thought it was because XP is no longer supported or something, but I upgraded to Windows 7 and it still doesn't work. There's an orange light on, and when I move the battery around it turns blinking blue, I thought that meant it was charging, but in Windows 7 it says no battery detected and it's not holding any charge. hi john_i,

Try performing a system power drain,
Remove the Battery and AC charger,
Hold the power button down for 15 sec.
Reconnect the battery and AC and turn the system on, Check if the charging will continue.
If not try removing the AC and see if the the computer will shut off.
If yes then you might need to replace the battery.

Answer:Problem with Lenova Ideapad Z510 Battery not charging

In response to customer reports of unexpected issues with battery performance on Z500 and Z510 laptops, Lenovo is making a battery firmware update available via download from the Lenovo Forums.

This battery firmware is intended to resolve the following unexpected charging symptoms when a Z500 or Z510 laptop is powered on:

Battery is dead
Battery is not detected
Battery is detected and charged to 100% but when AC power is removed, the laptop immediately powers off
When the battery is fully charged and AC power is removed, battery level falls dramatically within 10 minutes

Please note a step-by-step procedure for upgrading the firmware is included in the .zip file, found in the "ReadMe" folder.

The battery firmware update can be downloaded here: https://download.lenovo.com/lenovo/content/sm/z500_z510_battery_firmware_update.zip

Hi, I had the problem where the battery didn't charge at all even if it was connected in the right way and the charger was plugged in. So I started to search internet for possible solutions. Those I found where to 1) disable alt uninstall ac and acpi adapter in Windows Device Manager. Restart computer.. Not charging problem is related to some Windows issue. 2) Choose the alternative "maximum battery life" in Lenovo Energy management.. Neither worked after several and time consuming tries... The problem here is Lenovos "smart" Energy management system that prevents the computer from charging the battery to "save it".. Solution: Uninstall Energy Management (Publisher: Lenovo) under Program and Features in Windows Control Panel and the problem is solved.. And don't reinstall this program again....

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Y580-20994BU battery not charging

You most probably have overdischarged your battery. If you discharge the battery to 0% and let it stay like that for some time (few hours? not sure) the battery protection circuit will shut down the battery and render it useless. Explanation: Li-Ion batteries as all modern commercial batteries are based on chemical reactions. When the charge drops to 0% in Li-Ion battery the voltage drops, and irreversible chemical changes occur inside the cells. If I remember correctly crystals are formed inside the cells. Charging a battery like that is dangerous, and that's why there is a protection circuit inside the batteries, which shut downs the whole battery even if just a single cell drops below specified voltage. Happened to me twice before. Last time was actually quite recently with Y580. You can try some diy tricks like freezing the battery, but it didn't work for me. In my case it happened because there was no critical battery level set in power settings. Why was it not set? No idea. There is 6 months warranty on battery I think, so you can try it.  Otherwise you have to buy a new one.

Hello, I bought this Ideapad 14IBR on friday and the battery will not hold a charge and it has been at 0% since i bought it. any idea why this is ahppening. do I need to take it back and get another one?

Answer:Brand New Ideapad 100s 14IBR battery not charging

Well, The battery most likely is Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) and either have been a production defect; or have not been properly charged at the factory; or have been drained completely, been sitting for a long time, then as a result have suffered damages to the chemical bits inside. You may have to return only the battery to the store (If accessible to remove form outside/If not internal) , unless they tell you to bring something else in addition. Sincerely Cklone.

Hey! I recently bought an Ideapad Y510P from an American seller on eBay, despite myself being located in Australia.  My issue is that, my battery will not charge unless I insert the battery, while my laptop is booting up. So basically it won't charge if:I power on my laptop with the battery insertedIf I remove and reconnect the charger adapter while it's runningI'm not too sure why it is doing this, all I really know, is that is started after I ran a battery calibration using Lenovo Energy Management.  I've contacted Lenovo Australia, but they said that they can't assist me because the laptop was manufactured in the United States, so they keep directing me to the Lenovo US technical support.BUT I've called the technical support in the United States about 3 times now. Hello, I got the Lenovo ideapad 110 near a month ago, I liked it a lot, until many problems started happening and it ticked me off a lot. The main problem with this computer is the battery life. I looked up what the average battery life for this computer was, it said approximately 3 to 4 hours. And it is hard to believe that because at fully charged, the battery life says it is 2 hours, but runs out quicker than that. The charging speed, I was at 0% with this computer, and it said that to be at fully charged, it would have to take nearly 3 hours! What??? I researched online if there was any way to replace a more long-lasting battery or to see if there are some ways to save/improve the battery life. What I got were ways to save more battery, but none of it worked, they don't make a difference. Lowering the brightness, probably only saves 5 minutes of your battery, and that's the most I could really do (out of all the ways showed in the support page), since I never use bluetooth, etc. Really need some help, would really appreciate some better ways to saving more of the battery, or if there is a way to replace the battery in this computer with a bigger life. But I strongly dislike the problems with most Lenovo computers, thinking of returning/exchaniging it. Thanks for your time.

Got the same issue that windows users had but, I can solve the same way cuz I did Install Linux on my s400, is there anything that  can do under linux?

Answer:ideapad S400 battery charge until 60% and stop charging, on Linux

Hi Yasumitsu,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that your S400 Laptop is charging only upto 60%, this issue in windows will get resolved by install the LEM (Lenovo Energy Management) and by choosing the (Optimized Battery Health), the Battery charges only to 60% and stops charging the battery and then it take its power from the charger, so if you want to charge the battery to 100%, you need to choose (Maximum Battery Life).

Do post us back if the issue still persists.

Best Regards

Shiva Kumar

I just bought my ideapad 110 2 months ago; suddenly, I now get a message that the battery is not charging when the cord is plugged in. I can reset, and it will work for awhile, but the problem comes back. I have read that using Windows 10 has this same problem with other laptop makers. Just wondering if something can be done without sending in to be fixed first.

Answer:Problem with my new ideapad 110 battery not charging message. I can reset it to work for a while.

Hello BillD55Thanks for using the Lenovo forums.Try a static discharge for this, it may help to resolve the issue or at least get rid of any built up static on the motherboard.(If the battery is internal, please just skip the remove/replace battery steps.)1. Turn the unit off2. Remove the battery and the Mains adapter3. Press and hold the front power button for 30 seconds4. Replace the battery and the Mains adapter5. Turn the unit on as normal
Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.==================================================================================Did someone help you today? Thank them with a Kudo! If you find a post helpful and it answers your question, please mark it as an "Accepted Solution"!

This is in response to the problem everyone is having with the battery not charging when plugged in. I found this in the guide for my idea pad Z400. It should help many of you to finally make peace with your battery Battery (B):      Battery Mode (B-1):  By using the battery maintenance function, it is possible to extend the battery lifespan. Before you use this function, read the precaution. Energy Management 8.0 can automatically track your habit of battery use, and then provide suggestions on selecting a battery maintenance mode for extending the battery lifespan. Two battery modes are provided: Maximum Battery Life and Optimized Battery Health.       Maximum Battery Life: In this mode, the battery has the most powerful charging capacity. Note that this mode cannot optimize the battery circle lifespan.       Optimized Battery Health: In this mode, the battery limits charging to 60% of its full capacity. This can reduce the battery degradation and extend the battery lifespan.

Hi, I have a lenovo ideapad u410, it is about 2 years old now, and I've been having charging problems. This started last year, where my laptop would be plugged in and down on the battery icon it would say that it's "plugged in, not charging." The battery would deplete completely, and when I try to charge it, the light would just blink. This eventually went away after about a month, I didn't do anything, and I could use my laptop again. However now it's back, at first I thought it was my charger, but I removed my battery and plugged it in and I can use my laptop without the battery. I tried to replace the battery, but it still did not charge. When I plug it in with a battery in the laptop, it will only blink a few times then stop entirely. Do I need to download any battery management drivers? I don't know what the problem is.

Answer:Lenovo ideapad u410 plugged in, not charging, battery depleted

I have my U410 Touch for 10 months now.  It always charged to 100 % but starting a couple days ago it only charged up to 90% and stoppped.  I called Technical support as I am still within warranty, they told me to perform the  the battery gauge, but it did not work.  Then they asked me to reinstall the battery driver and the energy management software but it is still not working not charging to 100%.  They now suggest to me to do one key recovey to reset to the factory setting to see if it works.  If not, they said I can send back the computer for service.  I am not sure if I should do the one key recovery becaue I will loose all my files and etc.  I am skeptical if this will work?  Any suggestion?  Should I just tell them I will send back the computer to Lenovo to fix the problem but then I will not have the computer for at least two weeks. ....

Hello, I have a 3 yr old Ideapad Z510(that came with Win8)which worked absolutely fine until recently. If I plug in the charger when the laptop is on, it abruptly turns off and would never boot again until I remove the charger. However, this is not how it behaves every time. There are some rare instances where I could still operate the machine with charger plugged in.  When turned off, battery is charging and also goes to full 100%. When turned on(battery mode) it does not drain rapidly - I could still get a fairly decent stand up time. So I am assuming the battery is good. I don't see any thermal issues either. Things I tried:-------------- > Tried with a different charger - no help.> Updated the firmware - no help.> Update the entire driver pack - no help.> Applied windows patches, reinstalled and also upgraded windows to Win 10 - no help.> Reseated the battery and associated cables - no help.  I am not sure if there is anything that I could do to at least diagonize the problem before I give it to the service station. Any pointers on this is much appreciated   Thanks much in advance.

Hi i have theEdge11 K3252545-A12 modelwith Battery 57wh model no : 42T4897 The Battery Monitor showing only 47.5wh overall capacity. This seems to be the same problem like the edge13 series. For these devices there is a battery firmware update but not for my battery.Again i know that batterys are getting worse after cycles but this seems to be bug because:1) the battery is 2 weeks old2) the battery shows in the energy manager as 47wh battery and not 57 battery. So the battery manager says "good" and no battery wastage.  Does Lenovo provide the upgrade also for my device and battery? see the links: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-75738 http://www.lenovoblogs.com/connections/2010/08/update-bios-and-battery-firmware-to-ensure-full-charg...

Answer:Solved: Edge 11 AMD K325 - Battery Problem need Battery Firmware update?

Hello mate, You don't have a problem with your battery. My T510 indicates the same with a 57wh. Under average usage patterns your ThinkPad battery maintains approximately 70% of its power capacity for the first year of operation. Average usage is defined as the number of recharge cycles. A cycle is defined as each time the battery discharges a total of 85% or more and is recharged it counts as one cycle.

Hey, I own a Thinkpad E220 (5380-CTO) and the "Lenovo Thinkpad Toolbox" gives me daily alerts that I have a "critical battery issue". The link leads me to a page to download and update the battery firmware. "Battery Firmware Updates for Main and Slice (external) batteries - ThinkPad Edge E220s, Edge E420s, X1" http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?DocID=HT062049&AID=10429688&PID=3719336&CJURL=http%3A%2F... I've gone through all the steps to update the firmware numberous times, including doing the battery recalibration and I STILL get the daily "critical battery error message". Please help, the daily scans eat up RAM and it's annoying that I have to cancel it daily. The battery, from what I can tell, works otherwise. Thanks!

Answer:Thinkpad E220 "Critical Battery Issue" even AFTER updating battery firmware

I do have exactly the same problem: keep getting the "critical battery issue" alert every sinle day! When I want to update the battery firmware, it says it cannot find any batteries that require firmware update. Yet, I get the same "critical battery issue" alert the next morning... This started happenning a few days a ago after I have updated the ThinkVantage Toolbox system; and it is already driving me crazy... Does anyone from Lenovo ever read these community blogs??? It seems like noone cares!

Seems like internal battery memory was corrupted due to flashing interruption.
I assumed the root cause is internal software error.

I've tried the same on Windows 7/8/XP with all LnvBFU revisions (from v1.2 till v1.15) without any success.

But LnvBFU.exe still recognizes the battery, it still able to start flashing.
And I still have hope to install battery software correctly.

Dear Lenovo experts:
1. Please provide steps to correct this error.
2. Please advise how can I get logs of LnvBFU to figure out what's wrong.
3. Please fix this issue in the next LnvBFU revision.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Battery Firmware Update has killed Brand New E420 battery

Hi, I have a comparable problem over here. Got a brand new Lenovo Yoga 260 three weeks ago, worked completely fine until last wednesday. Processed some lenovo updates including Lenovo Solution Centre and Power Management and now my battery is dead. Everytime i turn on my Yoga 260 i get a battery error message after a few minutes that says the battery is not charging and it should be replaced due to a bad condition. When i open up Lenovo Settings and search for energymanagement it displays the same message telling me the battery is defect due to normal wear and it should be replaced. My problem is that the battery worked completely fine until the moment i installed some Lenovo software updates. I hope lenovo support can provide steps to correct this error instead of forcing me to return it and wait 2 -3 weeks. Thanks in advance.

Laptop: Lenovo Ideapad S100c  Good day! I'm a complete novice at computer troubleshooting. So, please excuse me if I sound like an idiot.  I bought the laptop just 10 days ago (warranty of 1 year). It worked fine before but suddenly the battery won't charge. The icon indicates that it is 'plugged in, charging'. But even if i leave it with the charger plugged in, it won't seem to store the 'charge' and now I'm stuck at 6%.  This is not the first time this problem occurred. One time, I shut it down and plugged it into the charger and left it to charge for a couple of hours. When I opened it, it didn't seem to charge at all. So, I opted to charge it while it was open and it worked.  And, now I leave it open when I charge it but it doesn't seem to although it is indicated. Should I wait for a miracle to happen or do I get a new battery pack?Thank you in advance.

Answer:Ideapad S100c battery problems. 'Plugged in, charging' but does not store charge.

hi CynicalTurtle,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Can you try the following:
1. Remove the battery and AC adapter
2. Press and hold the power button for 30secs
3. Insert the AC adapter and boot into WIndows
4. When the WIndows OS is loaded, slide the battery back in place and see if it takes a charge
5. If the battery still doesn't charge, try to perform a battery gauge reset as discussed in this article.

If the battery starts charge, monitor the battery health by using Passmark's BatteryMon.
If the problem persist and the battery still doesn't charge, I recommend you contact lenovo for a replacement battery.

Hope this helps

I am having issue with my Ideapad U510 Battery. It's plugged in, but not getting charged. on the battery icon, it's showing up as " 4% avaialble (plugged in , charging) "  - but not getting charged. This issue started couple of days ago and so far i have tried few options but no success yet ( restarted the computer, changed few options in lenovo energy management, unplugged teh power for couple of minutes). since last couple of days, it's showing 4% available charge(although plugged in). Has any in the forum encountered this issue ? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Answer:Ideapad U510 Battery Issue stuck at 4%(plugged in , charging) - but not getting charged

hi prad,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

 Can you try the following:
1. Turn off the computer but let the AC adapter remain plugged-in.
2. While the computer is off, let the battery charge for about an hour or two and observe the light indicators. When finished, turn on the computer check the battery status.

- Link to picture

If the battery still stays at 4% and the battery notification is still "Plugged-in, charging" then I recommend you contact lenovo and report the issue as you most likely need to get the battery replaced.

I have actually had this problem among others with this model.  First off, I'll talk about the battery issue. I have read on other support pages that if I remove the battery and pop it back in, with a little wiggling, it should work. No luck there.  Another suggestion was to delete anything that looked like "Lenovo Battery Manager." Again, no luck.   Secondly, the laptop shuts off if the CPU is running at full for about an hour even if it's cool to the touch. It might be related to the battery issue, it might not.  Finally, the Optiarc BD-ROM drive keeps restarting until I open it and leave it open. The only other workaround would be to double click on the big drive button and waiting several minutes for it to finish and stop restarting.   Thanks for reading all of this.

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad Y730 battery not detected and not charging. (Multiple problems)

Dear DSGWubsy

Welcome in Lenovo community

For battery issue please let us know what is the installed windows on your machine so that we can sent you the latest update of Lenovo Power Manager .to make battery gauge reset .

As for CD-ROM issue , Please go to the device manager to uninstall the CD-ROM Device and then restart the machine to check the issue if solved or not

Thanks

My laptop has been distrubing since yesterday. Whenever I put in the power chord, the power light and battery light starts flashing together and the laptop does not charge. When I remove the chord, the flashing disapperas. Occassionally, it charges a little before going out again.  I tried using the laptop without the battery. It sometimes does not start and other times, it goes into the first few seconds of booting (the BIOS page) before going out again.  Do you guys know what this code indicates? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

HelloI just got this new lenovo Ideapad 110 and its only 4days old. Plugged it in to charge the battery and started noticing the screen going bright and then dim intermitently. Upon closer look I noticed the battery charging connection icon turning off and on repeatedly every second was the cause of the screen flicker. What could be the problem??? Its a brand new laptop I'm not expecting to be having battery or charger issues. In essence the laptop is changing between charging and not charging rapidly.  I would appreciate any help on this.

Hello. First of all, thank you for taking the time to view my post and potentially help me out. So the problem is that my laptop will not start. I was using my laptop here one day and it was working fine, but it was unable to charge for some reason and ended up shutting down so I went to bed. The next morning I tried turning it on, but it was dead. I have tried a different charger as my sister also has a lenovo laptop, but this did not work either. I would think if the battery was the problem, the laptop should still be working with the charger in? I have tried calling support line several times with no answer, the warranty has gone out and I forgot where i bought the laptop sadly. Really frustrated over here, and any help is highly appreciated!

Hi there! I just recieved my refurb ideapad z500 and not only was the battery not working ,but it has a wierd small white/bright spot on the screen. Will waranty replace it? Also what is it? Thanks!     I picked up my laptop last Friday from UPS. As soon as I got arround to opening it, I noticed that it would no power on without being pluggen in. That is strange because all my previous laptops had at least enough charge to power on, and it said it had 34%(when I powered it on with the power cord). That was the first strange thing. Then, after about a couple hours, I checked to see if it had charged anymore and it still said ?Plugged in, charging 34%?. I left it all night. The next morning, I went to see if it had moved. It hadnt. Then I thought maybe it was just saying that so I unplugged it. It still wouldn?t come on without the power cord. Then on Sunday it finally told me ?Plugged in, Not charging 34%. Somethings wrong with it. Then, I noticed a strange white spot on the right side of the display. It was really annoying me so I called in and added that to the repair list. I just Googled it and it seems like a problem with some lenovo laptops. I also talked to my friend (who knows a lot about computers) and he said it was something behind the display. Will they fix these issues since it was supposedly "inspected" and was as good as new. Thanks!

I tried to install the same firmware as Z500, but it isn't work. Lenovo Solution Center displays battery as "Battery software not installed". Can someone help me with this problem? So I just received my brand new Dell Inspiron 15 3000 and the battery is not charging. It says it's "Plugged In, Charging" but it never goes up and stays at 0%. At first I thought I just need to plug it in for several hours but it's been 5 hours now and still the battery stays at 0%. I tried running the BIOS Diagnostics just to see if there are problems and there's none. The battery status says everything is running normally and the Battery State says it's Idle. I tried draining the flea power several times, removing and reattaching the battery, but to no avail. I'm getting really frustrated and I'm really close to throwing this laptop back to Dell.
I read somewhere that I have to update the BIOS but it won't update unless the battery is charged at least 10%. Someone also suggested that Windows 8.1 is causing the problem. I haven't even started using this laptop and it's already giving me a *** ton of problems. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks guys! :)
