Lenovo IdeaPad Z510 (20287) - Compatible mSATA SSDs?

Question: Lenovo IdeaPad Z510 (20287) - Compatible mSATA SSDs?

Hello, I've just purchased the Lenovo Z510 Intel Core i7 (model 20287) and I've got a few queries: 1. if there is one mSATA connector available and free (not already connected) so I could be able to add an ADATA XPG SX300 mSATA SSD? this one is compatible with lenovo products?2. if yes (compatible) ,I can be able to install the Win7 OS after and if system will recognize the new ssd? any tutorial?3. if no (not compatible), what are Lenovo laptops compatible with mSATA ? Many thanks in advance! Charlotte.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Lenovo IdeaPad Z510 (20287) - Compatible mSATA SSDs?

hi Charlotte,

Regarding your questions:
1. Looking at the specs sheet, the Ideapad Z510 does have a mini PCie card slot to fit an mSATA SSD but it doesn't indicate that it supports mSATA data signaling (and this slot is occupied by the wireless adapter).
- Link to picture (page 27 of the HMM)
- Z510 Specs

2. Not compatible. If you're leaning towards an SSD upgrade, you could consider getting a regular 2.5" SATA SSD and replace the HDD with the SSD and install Windows 7 on it. Check this thread as other users have sucessfully installed Win7 on their Z510.

3. Natively, these are some of the systems that supports mSATA:
- IdeaPad Y400 / Y500
- IdeaPad Yoga 13
- IdeaPad Yoga 2 Pro
- IdeaPad U310 / U410 / U510
- IdeaPad Y580

Hello, I have the Lenovo Y570 with the 64 GB SSD version. As most of you know the SSD is connected via a Mini PCI-e slot. Due to the limited size of the SSD, I would like to replace it with a bigger one (about 256 GB), which should also be connected via the Mini PCI-e port. I was thinking about the Crucial m4 mSATA 256 GB. I contacted the official Crucial support and I was told that this SSD and the Y570 are not fully compatible. So I searched through the internet and it seems like Lenovo has some kind of whitelist which restricts the mSATA port to only a few SSDs. (e.g. the Intel series 310 with 80 GB seems to be working fine.) So I wondered if anyone can tell me, if there is a such whitelist and what mSATA SSDs are compatible with the Lenovo Y570? If this question is allowed: If there's such a list, is there a way to surpass it, for example with a new BIOS or a modified BIOS? (As far as I have heard SSD connected via a normal SATA controller are not restricted, but I don't want to replace the HDD or the optical drive with a 2,5'' SSD when there's a Mini PCI-e port available.)

Answer:Lenovo y570 - Compatible mSATA SSDs?

Hello ka17, I have Y560p and my laptop has two expanding slots. One is mini PCIe slot and the other is mSATA slot. As you can see in the link below you cannot install mSATA SSDs in mini PCIe slot, only in mSATA slot. That is why Crucial support couldn't give you the green light to install their m4 SSD. It is possible that your BIOS is not going to recognize that drive. Maybe there are some drives that are supported for Y570, but personally I don't think that they are bigger then 80GB, I read somewhere that this is an electrical issue, but it's only what I read online, not the exact statement! http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-and-U-series-Laptops/Installing-mSATA-SSD-In-Y560p/ta-p/418343 Hope this helps a little. Cheers

Hello dear Community! I've got a Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 notebook, purchased 4 years ago.Not so long ago the HDD just went wrong again so now I'd like to put an SSD in it instead of a new HDD.Here's my first found: SSD Kingston 240 GB SSD, V300, 7mm (other specs: 2,5 inch, SATA3 interface). So, my question #1 is whether this SSD will be okay for my machine or not?If not could You just suggest me another ones that are compatible with it for sure (around the same capacity)? Another but not so important question #2: is it possible that changing the drive manually (no guarantee anymore) will cause the original (with-purchased) Win7 OS not working? Thank You very much for Your response in advance! Best regards,Zsolt Lszl

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 - compatible SSDs

hi Zsolt,

Welcome to the Forums.

I haven't seen anyone used the Kingston 240 GB SSD on the Z570 but it should work as it's a 2.5" drive (ensure that you can return the item though just in case the BIOS doesn't detect it).

Alternatively, you can opt to get another brand like the Samsung Evo as other users have tested it on this unit.

Video:
Samsung SSD on the Z570

As for the OS, Windows should automatically activate itself once you re-install Windows (e.g., From a backup, a recovery disc, or fresh install) but in case it doesn't activate, you will need to activate it by phone.

Hello, I ordered a Lenovo z510 00811, but received a Lenovo z510 20287 (according to the box and the sticker on the bottom of the laptop). Can anyone tell me what the difference between these models is? Or tell me where to find specs of the 20298? As far as I can tell, all specs are as advertised (Intel Core i7 4702MQ, 1TB hard disk (8GB cache), GeForce GT740M, 1920x1080 display, 8GB RAM). Thanks.

Answer:RAM upgrade beyond 8GB on Z510 model 20287

The program has that bug. The picture below shows the actual memory modules attached to the slots of the unit. According to the hardware maintenance manual you should use DDR3L-1600/1333MHz SODIMM 2. Notice there is also a typo in the manual it actually indicated DDR3 only but if you refer to the specs of the processor it should show DDR3L. There is a voltage difference between the two.

Question: Lenovo Z510 mSATA

I just ordered a new lenovo Z510 last week, and I have about a week to go before I recieve it, but I wanted to add an mSATA to the machine to speed it up a bit, so if I were to get an mSATA,  would it be compatable with my hardware, and how would you put it in? Thank you for your help.

Answer:Lenovo Z510 mSATA

hi KanyeMiddleEast,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I don't think that the unit does not have another MPCIE aside from where the WLAN is.

What you could do is a 2.5 SSD as an HDD Replacement

Hope this helps

I am considering buying the only 1 HDD TB variant of this laptop and i would like to know if it is possible to add an SSD to it (without removing the HDD). Also, how many RAM memory slots does it have?

Answer:Lenovo Legion Y720 Compatible SSDs and RAM memory

The SSD and HDD can both be installed at the same time AND I believe you can remove/install either without touching the other.  The only thing under (actually above but will be below when the machine is upside down with the back panel off) the M.2 SSD is the XBox communication card thing.  On my Y720 I opted to get no HDD and the empty space where it would reside is not covered or obstructed by anything.  There are two memory slots, so if you get only 8GB of memory it will probably be a single 8GB module and the memory will only be running in single channel mode.  FYI - the factory installed memory on my Y720 was quality samsung stuff so the cost to go from 8GB to 16GB is a pretty good deal IIRC.  If you decide to go low on memory and upgrade later, it is CAS 17 latency so make sure you get some CAS 17 stuff for compatability and best performance with the motherboard/chipset.

I recently ordered a Y580 laptop.  It came with a 1tb hdd but I'm looking to add a ssd along side it.  To my knowledge (please let me know if I'm wrong), in order to have an hdd and a sdd in the laptop, I need to buy some sort of mSATA ssd.  My question is, are the following mSATA drives compatible to do this?  I assume they are... mSATA drives My plan is to install the ssd and wipe both the hdd and ssd, then reinstall my operating system on the ssd.  Let me know if you guys think there's a smarter way of doing that. Thanks for all the help!

Answer:Lenovo Y580 Compatible mSATA SSD's

Hi

Welcome To Lenovo Community

There's no size constraint on the mSATA connection in your pc
The only thing is you will need a screw (1 or 2) to keep the SSD down

Look at the 8th post of the below thread. Its the exact location for msata ssd http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-Z-and-P-series/Lenovo-Y580-First-Look-Review/m-p/777999/hi...

Greetings, I just have a quick question, does the Lenovo X250 or will the X260 be compatible with both an SSD and an MSATA storage option? I plan to buy the X260 sometime in late March, but my biggest concern is swapping out the included 500 GB hard drive, or at least supplementing it with an MSATA 500 GB drive. I am worried about how I am going to get windows 10 on the drive, given that by swaping the main drive I will get rid of the OS. So my plan is to find a way to move the O.S. from the main drive to an MSATA. However, if there is a way for me to simply install a new SSD (500GB) and replace the included 500GB 7200 RPM drive, then I would just rather do that. Not having the CD or CD key seems to make re-installing the OS rather difficult though. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks!

Dear team,I was initially so excited to receive my brand new lenovo z510 in feb 2014. But two months later, I have noticed that my laptop had problem with keyboard and mouse touched pad. I was disappointed, it was my first laptop in my life that I bought with my own expense having a great feeling on Lenovo. It made me so unhappy and depressed that it was a totally new laptop just been 2 months old and it had a defect. I conveyed myself saying that defects with any electronic items are quite common and I moved on shipping my laptop to lenovo depot center at texas with my expense paying $25.00 to fedex. I really appreciate and I am thankful to lenovo team who took care of my laptop very well, and for having the issue fixed. However the left arrow key on keyboard is troubling once in a while. Its not that it doesnt work completely , but it does rarely. What bothers me write this to you is another problem that I am having now. I don't really know if this part of issue will be taken care by Lenovo or not, but wanted to get this to notice of somebody. The laptop inside screen border that has a grey color started peeling off itself on the top right hand corner. (The laptop outer body is chocolate color and there is a joining between the outer layer and the inner grey frame that hold the laptop screen). And more of that, it looks like the inner grey border is just sticked to the screen and it stared loosing the adhesive joining at the bottom of the frame too.The battery nev... Read more

Hi I have a question. Is the PCI Express Mini cardslot in the Lenovo Ideapad Z710 mSATA compatible? If this is the case then I'M considering to buying a PCI Express mSata Mini 256GB SSD card. The port is now used for the WiFi card. For the wifi connection i want to use a good wifi USB stick  wifi "N" or AC.Gladly i like to hear more details about this PCI Express Mini Card slot.Sincerely Lex from the Netherlands.

Answer:Is the Lenovo PCI Express Mini cardslot "mSata compatible"?

hi Lex,

Looking at page 28 of the Z710 hardware maintenance manual, it doesn't indicate that the mini-PCIe Wi-FI card is electrically compatible or can be shared with a mini mSATA SSD (unlike on other Lenovo models where the mini PCIe slot can be shared with other devices).

In this case, I wouldn't recommend purchasing a mini mSATA SSD for the purpose of testing it. However, If you already have a mini mSATA SSD handy then you may go ahead and try it on the Wi-Fi slot and observe.

After my call I removed my headphone and continued my youtube video, but sound was not coming. Again I inserted the headphone, sound is coming only via headphone. But not through speaker. I contacted today (11/02/2014) to lenovo ideapad service centre. They told me to give the desktop access to troubleshoot the issue and they said speaker is not working.  1. You will need a compatible Z510 backlit keyboard. As per page 100-103 of the hardware maintenance manual, the compatible part numbers are:

Chicony Backlight KBPart#: 25213721Part#: 25213723

Sunrex Backlight KBPart#: 25213752Part#: 25213754

Darfon Backlight KBPart#: 25213681

2. Ensure that there's a keyboard power connector on the motherboard as this is required for the backlight feature to work. To replace he keyboard, follow page33-36 of the hardware maintenance manual.

Looking around, I haven't found a seller of the compatible backlit keyboard above so this will most likely be the challenging part.

Please Help me because i need Bluetooth connection to work!! i already tried to download other drivers (http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds038011) but it seems there is no BT hardware... Thanks in advance...

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad z510 bluetooth missing

before, i just wanted to make sure that you've purchased g500 with bluetooth hardware. some of the systems doesn't come with bluetooth installed therefor please check your receipt or the box if you have the hardware.also, there are couple of steps that you need to activate bluetooth on windows 8 and 8.1. i'm assuming you're using one of these version, can you please check the settings > change pc settings > bluetooth if it's on.

Heya everbody.  I have bought a new lenovo ideapad Z510 laptop about 2 weeks ago and many days ago I realized my mics are not working. Actually I've checked it on recording devices and there is a microphone picture which is green tickled. But the bar next to it never increases. So microphones do not hear any voices. I've checked the drivers and they are all updated. I really don't know what to do.  Any help will appreciate it..

For some reason (not after some windows updates or smth) my notebook lenovo ideapad z510 doesn't boot. LEDs glow, keyboard's light is on, I can turn it on or off, can open dvd-rom, cooler is on, computer sounds normaly. But nothing loads. Just black screen. I cant turn on capslock or numlock. After reading about the causes of this behaviour,  I decided to take the battery off, reset settings by holding "turn on" button for 30 second and then set the battery back.It helped but after the next reboot the same story. Then I decided not to power it off at all. Today I came home (it was turned on all day) and the same... Also, there is some signal when I plug in the charger in when computer is turned on with black screen and stuff I mentioned above. It seems to me that there is a problem with the battery. I'm really tired of disassembling computer to take the battery off.May be someone has an advice.. The computer was on guarantee (I bought it about 9 months ago) but I've already disassembled it, so not anymore. Besides I can't give away notebook for 3 weeks for a guarantee repair.

If you can repeat what you have done so that you can boot, try running the following under command prompt with admin rights "sfc /scannow" without the quotation.

I have a laptop which is mentioned above. Had it for almost 3 years now and suddenly shut off while I was using it. It would not charge nor it would turn on. Tried the power reset thing which holds the power button for multiple seconds but to no avail.  Then went to a service center saying motherboard burned up. Such a shame since I really like the laptop and I spent  lot of money for it since I bought the i7 core version. I was hesitant to buy other brands before actually purchasing this lenovo laptop. I have a netbook (not a lenovo brand) which I had for 7 years now. But my almost 1000dollars z510 laptop broke and it hasn't been a FULL 3 YEARS?  WTH LENOVO! And motherboard replacement is VERY expensive. I'm really STRESSED about this. And ALL my files are there. Photos, work documents etc. I can;t stressed enough about how disappointed I am.

dear sir, my name is nikhil in my laptop z510 ideapad i am facing battery problem it is not showing correct battery % and also not show batterey low warning message and it is stable at one position 99% please sir help me out from this problem .many of them his having this same problem please give some battery firmware update so to resolve this problem.it is not a hardware problem because it started from two days before previously it is working fine but now it is not working          I purchased the z510 last  july and while the battery life wasn't great on it now it has stopped working altogether. I have tried every conceivable fix for it from the forums here and none has worked. The problem that I am having is that the battery is stuck at 99% while charging and when it is off charge it will stay on for half an hour and the shut off hard without warning, it has caused me to lose progress in work. The battery gauge reset is no longer working either as it was on for hours and just kept showing 99%. I would appreciate a response back. This seems to be a problem with this make of laptop as far as Ican see.

Answer:Lenovo laptop keyboard " Ideapad " Type Z510

Hi OMARDAKAR ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Using the part number for your keyboard on your search would allow you to find compatible and available keyboard in your location faster . You may use the parts lookup page to get it (just keep your serial number confidential) that would show your Machine model number and likewise FRU part number for your keyboard.

You can try it match it from the FRU keyboard part number list from the hardware manual (page100-103).

Update us with the Machine model number if needed .
Hope this help answer your query.

Hello,I have 3 quick issues.  I own a Lenovo IdeaPad Z510 laptop, which I recieved in December of 2013. When I first turned it on, everything worked, except that a screen popped up that says that the adapter is not fully capable of charging the laptop, and had a hyperlink to open  a windows to buy another battery/charger. Which I didn't particularly care for, until I went to the website. After looking around, I realized that there was, in fact, no available adapter/charger/battery to purchase for the Z510. After owning for several months, it no longer appears every time I turn it on. However, it will sporadically reappear and I wanted to know if anyone else had the same problem. When I turn my laptop off, it says that some programs are still running, and proceeds to show me what appears to be a picture of a blank window (it has no identification stating what the program is). I cancel the shutdown, but everytime I look for the program, I can't seem to find it. After scouring the internet, I have concluded that the said program is Intel Services Manager. I am unsure how to either uninstall/turn off the program so that it will stop showing up everytime I try turning my laptop off. Last question!Recently, when I started turning my laptop on, it wouldn't go to the lock screen. (I am running the most up-to-date Windows 8). It shows that black screen with the white Lenovo print, but does not go on from there. Only after I turn off the laptop and hold down th... Read more

I just got my Lenovo ideapad z510 from the repair shop and it came back with literally all programs gone - energy manager and co. But my data was still intact. I downloaded a bunch of drivers and programs from the Lenovo support site and began installing. System restarted normally, and next thing, the one key recovery screen came up. I didn't initiate any recovery. I have a lot - and I mean A LOT - of important data on my laptop. Why the hell would I want to wipe them off? I need to start windows normally without this recovery thingy. Please, please, I need help skipping this thing.

Hi Everyone, I have been struggling with installing w8 on my Ideapad z510 laptop in UEFI mode, but neither I could succeed it nor I could I find something that might help. I will clearly explain the case.Point 1:As I understood, to succeed w8 install in UEFI format, one needs to choose "UEFI First" mode from Boot Menu in BIOS. Then, the source of the boot needs to be specified to identify the rigid path to the documents to load so that new OS could be installed correctly.Problem1:It is possible to chose UEFI First from boot mode, but it's not possible to choose the USB path for UEFI booting in this case, which doesn't allow you to succeed a UEFI boot to your computer. You can't reach the DVD or USB, where the installation files are, and start installation process.Point2:Considering the first case, you need to choose Legacy Support mode to boot your computer and reach USB disk or DVD to install new OS on the computer.  Problem2:To succeed UEFI mode booting to the computer, you need to see 4 different partitions on your disk at point of disk selection, where you choose the disk you'll install your OS. However, when you select the Legacy Support mode from BIOS, the disk partition is limited to 2 in my case, which are:Primary diskSystem reserved (350 MB)Hence, when I continue with the installation, the OS is installed on Legacy mode. After installation, when I go to BIOS to choose UEFI mode for boot mode, the laptop checks some connections from network and saysEFI ... Read more

Answer:How to install W8 in UEFI Mode to Lenovo Ideapad Z510 ?

First of all, your bootable USB should be created in UEFI mode. Just google it and you will find some solutions. You can install W8 in UEFI mode. Just enable boot from USB in the BIOS, select Exit Saving changes and restart. I think this was your base problem. Let me know if you already did this and still encounter a problem.

Hi, I have purchased Lenovo Z510 (model 59-398016) laptop yesterday and I was not able to find out how I can -1. Access BIOS2. Run a full hardware diagnostic test (just to ensure that all's well and I have no reason to return it to the vendor due to a manufacturing defect). I previously owned a Lenovo ThinkPad R61 model which had Lenovo ThinkVantage blue button which led me to Rescue & Recovery mode where I could do full system tests in once shot! I could not find an equivalent in my new Ideapad. Can anyone help? Thanks. Regards,Deepak Gupta

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad Z510 full hardware diagnostic tests

To access you bios all you have to do is press the NOVO button and select "bios setup" in the pop up menu. Refer to the user's guide to locate the button. For other manual such as maintenance manual you can go to this link. There is no diagnostic program included in most of the ideapad series. So you can just probably choose a third party program if you want one. Hope this will get you started.

This issue started about 6 months ago and has gotten worse. in the beginning it only occured when i colosed the lid of the laptop to put it to sleep but did not occur or not as reularly when using the windows power menu and manually putting it to sleep. When it did occur white, pink and green horizontal lines/ pixels would dance up and down the screen. I monitor the temperature and it is within normal ranges. The mouse would also freeze and unfreeze and i have to patiently wait and to access the power option menu. a restart usually solves the problem. Now i am shutting it down completely and it is getting worse. it starts (with or without lines on the lenovo screen) but by the time i get to the sign in it is full of line and now the lower part is going grey and shifting to white. if i can access restart it solves the problem. i am then able to use the computer without any issues. I did a discharge of the battery and guage reset. since i mostly use it plugged in i keep the battery at 60%. I purchased the computer in May 2014 and had a power issue (I think, lenovo never comfirmed what the problem was). It was sent back and repaired in 2015 under warranty. I sadly think i got a lemon. When I belatedly checked the new owner checklist on the forum it also reminded me that i don't have one key recovery. When i first recieved the laptop i attempted to create one in the partition drive but it wouldn't allow me to. I seem to remember it said there wasn't enough room. a technician trie... Read more

Hello, i read a lot about crucial temperature for their msata drives but what about other brands? Do they also IDLE @50C? and jump to 60-70C? when reading/writing a lot..? This is pretty annoying, it's the hottest part of the laptop..!

Answer:Temperature of mSATA SSDs...

Blame notebooks, not the SSDs. It is the restrictive space and lack of air flow due to insufficient fan support in notebook cases that prevents efficient extraction of the SSD's heat that is the real problem here. While 70?C is disconcerting, the fact SSDs are physically smaller and have much less "mass" than hard drives means those 70?C sources of heat have much less impact on over all heat inside the notebook case (like a lit match in a room compared to a lit fireplace).

There really is nothing you can do but to ensure good air flow with regular cleaning to prevent buildup of heat trapping dust, and perhaps the use of a Notebook Cooling Pad w/ext. power supply (a good idea anyway) to ease your concerns.

Dear All, I recently got an annoying problem in my Z510.A couple of weeks ago power manager suggested me to block battery charging to 40% to keep battery safe. Now after two week I got a message that the battery is weak  and need to be replaced. I bought this laptop in june bus since I changed the HDD with and SSD (I had to open the laptop) i guess the warranty is gone (or not?). Moreover, i tried to look online where to buy a new battery but I didn't find anything. On amazon there are batteries for all the models except z5100. Do someone know where to buy (Amazon preferentially since i need a really fast delivery cause i need the laptop ready for work in 10 days) a compatible battery? It's really urgent so any answer or help is welcome.  Many thanks in advance,Ventu

Hi All,This problem persists and i have no idea what is wrong. I have bought  a new IdeaPad Z510, and installed windows 7, and the drivers recommended on the lenovo website. Occaisionally (once every some 10 times), when starting windows the Wifi isnt recognized (it doesnt connect automatically to the network and manaul trials fail), and anything connected to the USB prots isnt recognized, trying to restart, the windows takes minutes and windows gives a blue screen saying it recovered from crash, and dumpds data and then restarts offering operation in normal and safe mode. What is the problem here, any suggestions how to solve it!, i tried to format the Labtop and install the windows all over again and the drivers from lenovo wesite again, same problem persisits, please help!!!!

Answer:Problem with Lenovo IdeaPad Z510 !!!!: Wifi and USB ports arent recognized after windows startup.

Finally I found someone who has the EXACT SAME problem than me.I don't know why this happens, but it is annoying as hell. I also tried alternative OS like Windows 8(.1) as well, but I wasn't able to solve it. Sadly, I need my laptop so sending it away for fixing is not really my first choice :/

People on the forums have said that there are only full-size mSATA SSDs but look at this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820161493 it's only 4GB but it's still half-size.  Has anyone seen any larger half-size mSATA SSDs?

Answer:Half-Size mSATA SSDs

You might have to call around but I found these: http://www.magicram.com/magicram-unveils-msata-mini-ssd-the-smallest-form-factor-ssd http://www.meltron-electronics.com/Product/Product_EmbeddedSSD.html http://www.trustedreviews.com/news/SanDisk-Introduces-New-mSATA-mini-Format The problem is that the only place you can put mSATA drives in the W520 is the full-size mini-PCIe slot. If you were to install one of the mSATA mini drives then you would need to buy a half-to-slot mini-PCIe bracket. This defeats the purpose a little.

I see in the manual that it says Msata but it makes no other reference for it offically and when I look at videos of users adding ram the slot looks distinctly like M2. Can anyone confirm which the S210 has?

Answer:Does the S210 have an Msata or M2 slot for SSDs?

Anyone...someone around these forums must have openned up an S210 or even a S215..

Since the 4th generation Intel processors are coming, that means they'll probably support the 4th generation chipsets, QM87 in particular for us.Since the QM87 chipset supports four SATA3 lanes, I hope this means I'll be able to run an mSATA SSD at SATA3 speeds instead of SATA2.The speed differences are negligible for humans, but it would be nice to get what I paid for.

Answer:New Intel Chipset and SATA3 mSATA SSDs

It would be a new type of mSATA called M.2 which will support SATAIII.

So it had been discussed before on this forum that installing a mSATA device on an X230 was a warranty voiding action (the part was listed as CSU instead of FSU).  And we in the USA had no option to have one installed at all. Now on Lenovo's site when I try to configure an x230 it says that you can order a mSATA compatible one under the different screen options. I ordered a week or so ago, but does this mean we can now install them without voiding warrnaties? Anyone from Lenovo have an opinion on this?

Answer:Can we now install mSATA SSDs in our US X230s without voiding the warranty?

Not from Lenovo but general warranty advice (applies in the US, may or may not apply elsewhere) There are few things that will "void" a warranty. Installing an mSATA is not one of them. What it will do is allow Lenovo to refuse warranty service on a failure if they can show that your mod (in this case installing the mSATA) caused or substantially contributed to the failure. Accordingly, they could refuse warranty service for a failed touchpad if the palmrest connector was damaged during installation of the mSATA but would be hard pressed to connect a screen failure to your mod. The concept is very simple - if your mod broke it then you pay for it. Although this is the law, it might be more difficult to do in practice because you have little recourse if the manufacturer (Lenovo, Hoover, BMW, whoever) denies warranty service. You must always be prepared - both emotionally and financially - to pay for the possible consequences of your mods. Oh - as far as "voiding" the warranty. That is a very long and involved process that requires specific action on the part of the manufacturer. It basically says that whatever mods you made influence the entire system so that any failure can be tied directly to the mod. For computers I could see a modification of the electrical system, overclocking to the point that it affects other systems and the like as a reason for a manufacturer to say "anything that fails is your fault. Adding a mSATA has risks but assu... Hey guys,  I have the Lenovo Ideapad 520 (80YL00RXIN) and wanted to replace the CD Drive with the Samsung 850 Evo 250GB Solid State Drive  in order to increase the Boot Speed and over-all speed of the laptop.  So, the question is, Is the Samsung 850 Evo SSD compatible with my laptop? And will it fit in terms of size, in place of the CD Drive? Also, is it recommended to add the SSD? Any downsides to doing so?  Lastly, will I, someone who knows the basics about computers and the internal components of a computer, be able to install the SSD myself? Or would I rather outsource it to someone who deals in things like this? Thank you. Regards,Neel.

Yesterday afternoon I purchased a Lenovo IdeaPad Z575 for $499.00 from this link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834246328

Obviously, it hasn't come in the mail yet. I'm looking to upgrade the RAM in the laptop. It comes with 6gb of RAM, a 4gb stick and a 2gb stick. The problem is, I don't really know what kind of RAM is in the computer. I'm looking to replace the 2gb stick with a second 4gb stick.

The type of RAM the laptop uses is pc3-10600 1333mhz ddr3, non-parity, dual-channel capable, two 204-pin so-dimm socket RAM.

My question is whether or not this RAM is compatible with the laptop: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Electronics-Extreme-MV-3T4G3-US/dp/B00591ZYX8

Also, if there is a better option for RAM for this laptop, I'd like to know.

Answer:Solved: Is this RAM compatible with my Lenovo IdeaPad Z575?

Honestly, I think I may have mental problems. It looks like I answered my own question in this post. That RAM is compatible with my laptop. So I guess I'd just like to know if this RAM is the best option for this particular laptop.

I have a Lenovo Ideapad U530 natively with Windows 8.1, now that the time has come and Windows 10 just launched some 2 days ago, I was wondering if this model was 100% drivers compatible and updated for Windoes 10.I have checked the Lenovo Drivers Download page (http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/ideapad-u-series-laptops/ideapad-u530-... and there are some Windos 10 compatible drivers.Should I wait for more drivers? Or can I just use the ones already are available and download the Windows 8.1 drivers?
