I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I need help recovering my Ideapad P400 bios from a corrupted bios. The machine has power and will charge, however its stuck on a loop turning on and off, I have tried using FN+B  or FN+R to recover using a USB drive but i never see any activity on the USB drive, the machine will power on instead and the fan will spin really hard and it will not shutdown until you power it off yourself. Please help!!!, i tried calling lenovo but those money hungry monkeys will not help or explain how to recover from a currupted bios. All major computer maker have a guide on how to do it, lenovo is the only exception. Forgot to mention, no video in either case. Any help is much appreciated.

Answer:Ideapad P400 Touch Bricked Bios HELP!!!

BIOS recoveries are never easy. I'm not quite certain on the process myself. It involves something using the Phoenix CRISIS BIOS recovery tool or something, AFAIK.Sometimes a software recovery isn't possible, and you have to hardware reflash the BIOS (using external tools).

Greetings everyone, So I have been using a lenovo ideapad P400 touch - for about a year now and never encountered this problem before. The problem is, my headphones mic don't work. If I try skype/google hangout with other people, they cannot hear me.However I can hear audio through the headphones without any hassle.I tried sound recording through control panel option, it does recognize my headphone, but the microphone shows no signs of recognizing any voice input. The lenovo in-built microphone still continues to work.I tried my headphones on another system, and the mic worked fine, and I tried another pair of earphones on this system, and the same problem persisted. I am thinking it is driver/software update problem. Can anybody lead me on this? Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone.  I'm a newbie to Lenovo.  I just bought an Ideapad P400 Touch -  59360580 from Best Buy yesterday.  I think I have a problem with sleep mode. I went into the power options and under "Choose what closing the lids does", under "When I close the lid" for both "On battery" and "Plugged in", I have it set to sleep. Now when I'm charging it and I close the lid, it does what it's supposed to and goes to sleep with the power button blinking in the front. But when I close the lid when it's unplugged both the battery and power lights turn off.  It completely shuts down.  So when I open the lid again I have to press the Power button to turn it on again.  Is this normal to constantly have to press the Power button to turn it on again even though I have it set to sleep? Also will this hurt the computer, pressing the power button a lot to turn it on during the course of a day?

Hello guys. Recently I installed Photoshop CC 2014 on my IdeaPad P400 Touch. When I open the program a stop working message appears. Then I contacted Adobe support and they disable display adapter (Intel (R) HD Graphics 4000), after that the program works fine. The guy from Adobe told me that the problem is the driver, so I installed the driver from Lenovo and it is the same that is actually installed. Can anyone help me?

Hello,   I recently did a factory reset on my Lenovo IdeaPad P400, and now my touch screen doesn't work, at all.  Before the reset, it worked perfectly.  I don't have any viruses, malware, or hardware issues.  If I go to control panel and look at the my computer properties, it says "No Pen or Touch input available for this system" or whatever.  Also, i've tried the FW update .exe thing, and when I click start it tells me "no controller available" or something like that.  I also tried using the OneKey Recovery option, and "Refreshing" my PC.  Also didn't work.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

No - it is not the wireless signal strength that is at fault - all other devices work lightning fast on the same wireless connection. It works perfectly fine with the wired connection - maybe something is not quite up to par with the wireless adapter/receiver? Anybody have a resolution to this issue? With the exception of this painfully slow internet browsing issue (big deal for a student taking online classes), the laptop works fine. The minutes lost quickly add-up when you're doing work for online classes, or accessing online class content the entire day. Sound and display are acceptable - not movie quality, but that is fine since the primary purpose of the laptop is for work and college.  PLEASE HELP!

Hello all, I have a Lenovo Ideapad P400 and am using Windows 8.1.  64-bit.    I have 2 seperate issues, any advice on either would be greatly appreciated. 1.  I just ran Lenovo Solution Center Hardware Scan comprehensive and came back with Result Code: WWF00F000-HL9X7G.  Local Connection Test is what had the Warning.  The only other factor I could attribute to this warning code is in my Device Manager under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers", my USB xHCI Host Controller has a yellow "!" next to it and if I hit properties it says "The Device Cannot Start" (Code 10)  .... (Operation Failed)  The requested operation was unsuccessful.   Can you tell me how to fix the warning code recieved from LSC or how I can fix the driver issue on the USB xHCI?    Also I cannot for the life of me figure out how to re-enable my Touchscreen on the laptop.  It just turned off weeks ago and I have not been able to get it turned back on. Any ideas? Thanks a ton, Ch

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad P400 Touch Screen and Error Code

Hi Bob,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

Firstly, this controller enables USB over wireless as part of the Intel (WiDi) Wireless Display function. The yellow bank (or warning) just started occurring in early 2013.

The wireless display portion of the WiDi driver would still continue to work even with the yellow bang.

Lenovo Support Site has the Intel WiDi driver for the IdeaPad P400 which addressed the yellow exclamation mark issue.

Lastly, to enable the touchscreen follow below steps:

Solution 1 -

Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search. ...
Enter Calibrate in the search box, and then tap or click Calibrate the screen for pen or touch input to open Tablet PC Settings.
Tap or click Setup, and then follow the on-screen instructions.

One day I went to use the intenet on my P400 and I had no connection. I went to open up my wifi settings and they were not available! I didn't have the option to turn my wifi on! I used the troubleshooting function at first and it said something about an adapter isnt connected or something. I bought a ethernet cable and the internet works with it, but my wifi still wont work. I performed troubleshooting again and got this message: "The intel® Centrino® wireless-N 2230 adapter is experiencing driver- or hardware- related problems" Now I vaguely remember the first time I performed troubleshooting it told me an adapter or antenna wasn't connected. How should I proceed to restore my wifi?

Hi all, For some reason my P400 Touch no longer holds much of a charge.  For instance, after about an hour it's down to about 10% battery life from 100%.  I've tried a few "quick fix" ideas that didn't help with the issue, so it would seem the only solution is to replace the battery. Is it possible to find batteries for the P400 Touch still, and if so, where is the best place to purchase one?  I'm a little unfamiliar with the insides of this particular laptop, as I've yet to actually crack it open at any point, is there a guide on the best way to gain access to the battery in order to replace it?  Several questions at once, I'm afraid. Thanks for your time!

Hey all, I've had my P400 for a few years now and today it stopped charging. Not like where it says "plugged in, not charging" but the battery isn't getting any power, when I plug my charger into the port on the side I noticed that the battery light that normally . I took it apart and I checked where you plug it in because I found that this is a common problem with laptops, but it's fine. I have no idea what to do, so any help will be much appreciated. Also if you need it I can and will take pictures.

Hello Community,I have an Ideapad P400 Touch.  I recently upgraded to Windows 10 and now the right side CTRL key on my keboard does not work.  It was working fine with prior Windows 8.1.  I've tried everything I can think of and nothing seems to work.  I also posted a question on the Microsoft form and their suggestions didn't work either.  Anybody else having this issue and if so, how did you resolve it?  Thanks!

I have a P400 Touch that was purchased just a few months ago (February I believe) and it's been great so far.  This past month, however, I haven't used it (until now) and noticed that my battery icon is stuck on "36% available (plugged in, charging)" but the thing is it's not charging whatsoever.  What's worse is that if/when I pull the adapter from the laptop, it cuts off completely.  The battery indicator light is steady white when the adapter is plugged in as well.  Anyone else have/had this or a similar issue and find a solution?  If so I need help ASAP, I am a highly mobile person and am always on the go with my laptop for the work I do.  Thank you in advance to any/everyone who can help!

Answer:[P400 Touch] Battery charging question

hi RicoChi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

The laptop stops the charging when the battery reaches 100%
But thing there is that when it goes down to 99% It activates the charging and goes on as a cycle.

One factor of battery deterioration is the Full Charge and total discharge cycle.
the more this cycle happened on a battery the lesser it performs.

If you have a Lenovo Energy Management Software you will find this option

Maximum Battery Life- Let's you use the battery as any other laptop, Charges the battery up to 100%.
But the Optimized Battery Health  - Lets you charge only up to 60 Percent, preventing the battery from being stressed out from a 100 percent charge down to 0. This Feature lets you preserve the battery more.

You can get the software from your system's download site
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS034266

Hope this helps

I tried changing power options etc. Any ideas? Thanks,Justin

Hello.  I purchased an Ideapad P400 about a year ago.  I have noticed over the course of a few months that the batter life has become increasingly shorter.  It can now only hold a charge for about 2 hours.  Is this normal?  Do I have any options for increasing the battery life?  The battery is enclosed in the unit, thus I don't know that I can easily replace it.  Help?

Answer:Ideapad P400 Short Battery Life

hi nethersprings,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Just to check, along with the short battery life, do you also notice that the battery is discharging too fast? The advertised battery life of the P400 is 5hrs (unit is idle and on power saver mode - battery is charged at 100% until the computer goes to sleep). Depending on the process that you're running, 2hrs would seem to be normal if you play movies around that 2hrs.

To check the battery, can you try and run following:
1. Download and install BatteryCare and post the detailed info on the battery.
   - Sample info

2. Open an elevated Command Prompt (press the Windows key? +X and choose Command Prompt (Admin))
   - on the command prompt box, type powercfg -energy
   - once It generates the energy-report.html file, move this to your desktop and double click it. It will help if you can post a screenshot of the report or upload it (eg. Dropbox) so we can check if there's an app or a driver running on the background that's eating up power and making the battery drain much faster.

Hi! I got my Lenovo Ideapad p400 touch last year, and I´ve never had any troule with wifi. Two weeks ago I noticed that my notebook didn't recognized all the wifi signals arond the area, normally I can "see" at least 6, but now my computer only detects 3. Also my own wireless signal is lower tha usual (not the full signal bars indicator, just less than a half). Sometimes connection is too slow and sometimes it is not working (when this happens I try the trobleshoot test and it says "The default gateway is not available" and the PIng Test fails). I dont know what to do. I already tried to update the wifi drivers and also I restored the entire system to the default settings.

I have recently purchased the IdeaPad P400 and was wondering if there would be a BIOS update in the near future to allow you to switch to the "Legacy" keyboard mode, enabling the F-keys by default. I have seen that this has been an issue for numerous other users with the Z500 as well as the  P500 and was wondering if anyone has heard if it is going to be addressed in the near future. Thanks,Sean

Answer:IdeaPad p400 BIOS Update?

HiAs of my experience with my y560, i have gone through all the bios updates posted by lenovo for my machine from the starting and there has been no change till now in the settings of bios menu of any bios version except adding of esata port in the boot order(that too came in the last version which was uploaded on 17th feb 2011). And this is the cae of many other oem's also.So you shouldn't expect adding of a new setting in the bios until and unless it is very serious(That too would be an excption)Have a nice day

Hi, I suddenly encountered a battery problem in my laptop, IdeaPad Y510P. It seems like other folks have the same problem in Ideapad series.   When I plug in a charger, the laptop shows that battery is charing but, it never goes above 7% (w/ max battery life mode). According to Energy Management, battery status is fine.  After searching similar issues, I think it may be a problem with firmware, but I was not able to find a firmware update for IdeaPad series, Windows 8.1.... I have been using my laptop over a year, but never had this problem before. Can you please guide me through how to fix this issue?  Thanks for your help..!

After that reboot and install it back and see if there is a difference specially on the battery status. Also basing on your statement that the unit is with you for more than a year and you have not encountered any problem except recently it would seem that a battery replacement might be in order. Again before jumping into conclusion check the ac adapter and battery based on the procedure given in your hardware maintenance manual.

Answer:Ideapad Z-500 - Battery firmware updated but still battery not charging

hi Aledef,

If you have the Lenovo Energy Management installed, can you check the following:

1. For Windows 7:
Ensure that Maximum Battery Life is selected

For Windows 8:
Ensure that Conservation Mode is disabled.

2. Uninstall the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method under the Device Manager > Battery
   - Link to picture

When finished, reboot the machine and observe if the battery is now charing above 59%. If the problem remains, try charging the battery while the computer (about 30mins) and see if it goes pass the 59% mark.

If the problem persists, I recommend you contact lenovo on how to go about getting a replacement battery.

Hi,I have problems with performance when unplugging my ideapad s400 touch, and it does not seem to be related to windows or intel graphics power settings. Example, while plugged in with full battery (not charging), I can play Skyrim at 600x800 with 28-30 fps (all shadows turned off and with reduced textures, in case you are wondering how that is possible) But when I unplug, or the computer is charging, the game will be only barely playable at  480x640 with 18-26 fps (besides res. of course same settings). In both cases, the intel graphics options and in the Lenovo Energy Management is set to the high/max performance settings. So I am wondering if there are some hidden Bios power management or some other hidden power management going on, when it is unplugged or charging?Or if simply the battery can not deliver the same juice as when it is plugged in? Thanks for any help,L

My Ideapad P400 Touch with Windows 8 is no longer responding to right side swipe (charms bar gesture).  All other touch screen functions and gestures still work normally, including the left side swipe to switch apps.  The screen still displays the 'touch feedback' dots when I attempt the gesture but no charms bar appears! I've tried recalibrating as well as removing calibration of touch screen, and tried various other troubleshooting procedures I found on this site, like uninstalling recent updates, etc... Finally I tried running Windows 8 PC refresh, which worked as it's supposed to so I got to reinstall all my software but didn't fix the missing charms bar! Has anyone had a similar problem with the touch screen right-side swipe and been able to fix it?  Any help would be greatly appreciated!   Thanks!cait

For these devices there is a battery firmware update but not for my battery.Again i know that batterys are getting worse after cycles but this seems to be bug because:1) the battery is 2 weeks old2) the battery shows in the energy manager as 47wh battery and not 57 battery. So the battery manager says "good" and no battery wastage.  Does Lenovo provide the upgrade also for my device and battery? see the links: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-75738 http://www.lenovoblogs.com/connections/2010/08/update-bios-and-battery-firmware-to-ensure-full-charg...

Answer:Solved: Edge 11 AMD K325 - Battery Problem need Battery Firmware update?

Hello mate, You don't have a problem with your battery. My T510 indicates the same with a 57wh. Under average usage patterns your ThinkPad battery maintains approximately 70% of its power capacity for the first year of operation. Average usage is defined as the number of recharge cycles. A cycle is defined as each time the battery discharges a total of 85% or more and is recharged it counts as one cycle.

Hi all,

After installing of Battery Firmware Update my brand new battery not recognized by notebook anymore.
It is completely dead.  I am fully upsert.

So, people, do not use this app if everything is fine. Application is not stable.

Facts:
Laptop: ThinkPad E420
BIOS: 8HET44WW(1.26) - Latest
Operating System: Windows 10.
Power Management Driver: 1.67.11.8 -Latest
Battery Firmware Update Utility: 1.15 -Latest
Battery Model: FRU 42T4799  - (9cell, 55++, T410,  E520, E420, T510...) - Original, Fully compatible.

Screen2: http://imageshack.com/a/img923/165/9Rg71E.png

Seems like internal battery memory was corrupted due to flashing interruption.
I assumed the root cause is internal software error.

I've tried the same on Windows 7/8/XP with all LnvBFU revisions (from v1.2 till v1.15) without any success.

But LnvBFU.exe still recognizes the battery, it still able to start flashing.
And I still have hope to install battery software correctly.

Dear Lenovo experts:
1. Please provide steps to correct this error.
2. Please advise how can I get logs of LnvBFU to figure out what's wrong.
3. Please fix this issue in the next LnvBFU revision.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Battery Firmware Update has killed Brand New E420 battery

Hi, I have a comparable problem over here. Got a brand new Lenovo Yoga 260 three weeks ago, worked completely fine until last wednesday. Processed some lenovo updates including Lenovo Solution Centre and Power Management and now my battery is dead. Everytime i turn on my Yoga 260 i get a battery error message after a few minutes that says the battery is not charging and it should be replaced due to a bad condition. When i open up Lenovo Settings and search for energymanagement it displays the same message telling me the battery is defect due to normal wear and it should be replaced. My problem is that the battery worked completely fine until the moment i installed some Lenovo software updates. I hope lenovo support can provide steps to correct this error instead of forcing me to return it and wait 2 -3 weeks. Thanks in advance.

Dear Lenovo, After perusing the recent 2016/2017 comments by multiple users on similar posts about Ideapad Z510 battery from across locations/countries - it appears that the firmware that you had issued last year - has somehow got overwritten / superceded maybe in either late 2016  or early 2017 by some more recent/latest updates. I am writing from India and facing the same probem that the battery is showing 100% and then going off almost immediately. This probem had fortunately got solved last year when you had issued a firmware update - but now when i am trying to use the same files again - it basically conveys that "no battery available to update" because that particular firmware is already applied on our laptop. Hence, can you please release newer firmware update for this same issue -  using a z510 system having current till-date updates for different OS - win 7 / 8 / 8.1 / 10 - same way as you have released for thinkpad series of laptops too on the weblink - http://support.lenovo.com/in/en/downloads/ds001322 Come to think of it - that if a fully working battery is being "prompted" as weak and "need to buy" - but actually is a fully functioning hardware - isnt it a bit of a letdown for your users??? - what to say of  some who might have already bought and replaced with newer replacement batteries - which is actually a completely avoidable cost? I am sure you need to resolve this issue soon so as to restore c... Read more

Answer:Touch pad is not working also the update firmware ...

Did it work before the firmware update you attempted? Any way to roll back and load prior firmware? The firmware itself can change hardware which in turn has windows needing a driver change, ranging from chipset thru various items. Firmware updates can also effect bios settings even if failed, you need to review those.

Don't worry trying to download the firmware, for some reason the device got turned off. press windows+x select device manager (M) and then enable the touchpad (see picture below) Big red rectangle at bottom = device that needs to be enabled.Small red square at top = button to enable (will be green before you fix it, when it is grey touchpad will work)

I have a ThinkPad Edge 520, which I purchased with the higher capacity battery (42T4710). Recently when attempting to update the battery firmware, using the LenovoBatteryFirmwareUpdate  v1.13 it detects new firmware for the battery: Identifies the firmware: But then fails: Upon restarting the computer I get informed that the battery is invalid and will not be charged by the laptop. I have tried numerous combinations of updates (BIOS, power management driver, etc.), without any effect. Prior to this attempted update the battery worked fine. Appreciate any assistance.

Thank you, Spunkers

You might need to recalibrate your battery. Open Energy Management to recalibrate. Or update the bios if not updated yet to the latest version.

Answer:Ideapad S510p touch - Battery discharging too fast

hi Bhan168,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Subject says it all, at seemingly random times my S10 now turns off, the wireless light stays on, but no screen, power/charge light, etc.  This happens with and without the power adapter plugged in, and has happened 4 times since updating 3 days ago.  It hasn't happened when I'm using it, twice when it was idle (It makes a great alarm clock at 3am) and twice when waking it from sleep. In order to turn it back on I need to hold down the power button to hard reset, unplugging power adapter doesnt help, battery has a full charge. Anyone else having this issue?  It's stock except upgraded memory (1gb DDR2 667), which I swapped out to make sure it wasnt causing the issue.  This never happened with the old firmware.  I don't see anyway to downgrade it to the old firmware either.. Original S10 ordered in august, shipped in early Oct (Mft Date 9/25/08), 512mb/80gb 10.2" running the included XP home. http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/lenovo/drivers/2412/5696.html   was firmware update.  Applied because the boot-on-one key recovery button was annoying.  Update applied fine, rebooted, everything else seems fine.Message Edited by jonthompson on 11-29-2008 02:25 PMMessage Edited by jonthompson on 11-29-2008 02:27 PM

Hey all, sorry if this is the wrong spot for my post but I'm new around here. Yesterday, my Ideapad's battery malfunctioned when it was around 20%, and when I tried to plug in the ac adapter, it wouldn't charge. Eventually the battery ran down to 0, and now I'm stuck with a dead battery and laptop. Is there anything I can do? I initially thought it was the charger, and I ordered a new one, but even the new charger won't charge it either.

Answer:IdeaPad U430 touch battery running down quickly how do i replace?

Hi Hammerhead69,

Welcome to the Forums

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with battery in your Lenovo U430 laptop.

Try to change the battery setting  to conservation mode in the energy management. To enable the conservation mode go to energy manager which is located in task bar battery icon. Click on the icon then the energy manager tab is opened go the setting and select the conservation mode turn on the switch.

By enabling the conservation mode the battery will be charged only upto 60% -70% and stops. This method can extend the battery life.

Hope this helps. Do post back if the issue persists.

Best regards,

Question: P400 Touch

My computer has a series of conditions that makes it impossible to use: 1. The touchscreen flashes a circle, and sometimes multiple circes, on the upper right of the screen, as if it is being touched, when it is not. 2. The cursor arrow flashes. 3. Using my mouse, when I touch a drop down menu, it appears then disappears, before I make a selection. It does this in Photoshop and on the Windows 8 start menu, but not in Word or Firefox. It is as if the computer is getting an input -- either on the touchscreen or from a key -- all of the time.  Please let me know what I can do. Restarting does not help.

Hello! I have an x250 notebook.Capacity of my internal battery flows down. Some time i opened lenovo power manager and checked battery. Internal battery is full charged with 12,18V, but external battery is full charged with 12.68V.It is very strange for me. As i know there is no li-ion battery with <4.2V full charge.I recalibrated the battery, no changes.Ok, It is possible that one li-ion battery has lower voltage then other two ones. I checked the voltage - 4.07. 4.07, 4.05 it is great result!Batteries are not charged fully, so capacity is lower then it should be. I found battery FW update for some lenovo notebooks, but i didn't find it for x250.Can you help me?

The Thinkvantage Toolbox is reporting that the battery is not holding charge (down to 32%).  It is less than a year old and has been configured for maximum battery life.  The warranty link brings up a firmware update that won't install successfully.  I've tried the full package, and doing one part at a time.  It always detects the battery, goes to the writing the firmware stage, goes directly to the second try writing n/1334 (I think that's the number) and then fails.  I've let it reboot and try again with the same result. The product is ThinkPad SL510, product id 28479YU, Bios version 6JET85WW(1.43). Any suggestions on how to proceed?  I've seen other posts that suggest that it may be a defective battery, but nothing on how to confirm that. Thanks, Andrew

I recently got this device with no harddrive. I installed one and booted windows 8.1. It installed just fine and works great for the most part. But the touchscreen is not recognized. I know that being a new harddrive, the computer probably wouldn't recognize it right off the bat without further installation of something. I installed all of the drivers from Lenovo Downloads for the device. Most of them were fine, but using the touchscreen firmware driver gets me nowhere, saying that there is no controller recognized in this system. It also says that this upgrade may not apply to my system.

If I have a touchscreen, how can i make a fresh install of Windows 8.1 recognize it?

It went great and now my start up speed is about 6-7 seconds. ONLY HITCH - I should have known this but I was surprised to find out you have to open computer, remove keyboard, optical drive, bottom cover JUST TO REPLACE A BATTERY ON THIS COMPUTER.  This is frankly ludicrous and very sketchy on the part of Lenovo's design team. In the process of taking apart my computer for the SSD upgrade, I discovered that some of the screws were stripped coming out of the factory.  When I called for some replacement screws I was told I can send in my computer to Grapevine TX for service.  They do not offer replacement parts on screws. Pretty sad and ridiculous in my mind.  Otherwise - great computer.

Answer:500 gb SSD upgrade on a p400 touch

hi jkb,

Thanks for using Lenovo Community Forums!

I had this concern before, I think it was because the screws does not have part numbers to be ordered.

As an alternative Please take a look at this Maintenance Manual of your system as this have exact info about the screws per part.

a simple google search of the part like m2.5 × 6mm flat-head nylon-coated
should give you links on where to get them, I believe local Hardware resellers should know about the screw size and type.

I'm sorry to hear What happened
Hope this info helps
Cheers!

The fan was running pretty heavily when I turned it off last night and left it plugged in... and this morning I tied to turn it on and nothing happens. No lights, no nothing. I tried unscrewing the back to take the battery out, but the back of the case wouldn't come off at all. Is there some kind of reset I can do without taking the battery out? What can I do to get it to turn on?

Hey.. so I just bought a surface 2.. like new but the battery has a red x and will not charge. I've tried cleaning contacts, uninstalled battery in device manager and most other things. I feel like if I could get the system firmware update it may solve the problem and I can force the windows updates by uninstalling the battery.. when it reboots to install the firmware it show the surface logo and the "please wait while updating" it almost instantly reboots and goes back into windows. Any ideas here? Also is the battery difficult to replace? $16 on Ebay and I may give it a shot.

I saw a similar post with firmware update solution suggeste back in May 2013, but I also saw there was no support for windows 8.1 on the software. Is there any fix for this issue out there? If not my product is still under warranty, any suggestions? Regards,Dhruv

Greeting all... This afternoon one of the folks in my IT department did me a favor and installed a new battery in my IdeaPad P500 Touch.  Everything seems to be working well with sole exception that my backlit keyboard is no longer backlit, nor does it respond when I use Funtion+Spacebar. Is there another way to toggle turn the keyboard light on and off other than Function+Spacebar?  Does anyone know how I can fix it? Thanks!

Answer:ThinkPad Edge 13 - Battery Firmware update not working

Hi and welcome to the forum!

You need to have latest BIOS version (which is 1.20 6ZET...) and Power Management driver.

See below text:

"Lenovo has bundled the necessary dependencies and the battery firmware update into a common package. Customers who prefer to download a single file may download the appropriate package for their type of system. These "dependency wrapper" programs have the following basic procedure:

Check the Power Management driver version. Update if necesesary.
Get the current BIOS and embedded controller version.* This requires another driver, the Lenovo System Interface driver. If this driver is not present, version 1.02 (81vu13ww) will be installed. This driver is part of the "Hotkey Features Integration" package, but only the System Interface driver is installed.
If necessary, update BIOS to the minimum version supporting battery firmware update. A system reboot is required if the BIOS is updated. The battery firmware update will automatically continue after rebooting.
Update the battery firmware. A system shutdown is required after the battery firmware update. The system will not automatically turn back on after being shut down.

Please click here for more detailed operation of the dependency wrapper programs."

Hope this helps.

Hi all,

After installing of Battery Firmware Update my brand new battery not recognized by notebook anymore.
It is completely dead.  I am fully upsert.

So, people, do not use this app if everything is fine. Application is not stable.

Facts:

BIOS: 8HET44WW(1.26) - Latest
Operating System: Windows 10.
Power Management Driver: 1.67.11.8 -Latest
Battery Firmware Update Utility: 1.15 -Latest

Answer:Battery Firmware Update has killed Brand New E420 ...

Hi everyone!  I am trying to help my nephew fix his laptop, a Lenovo ideapad p400 touch that he cracked the lcd.  I have been able to find almost NOTHING on this model.  Is it a rare model or something?    I need a replacement screen and instructions how to replace.  I have replaced laptop screens before, but this one is different.  It doesn't have a bezel, just a smooth surface, and no apparent screw locations.I think I may have found a part screen at uspcparts.com,  but will have to be sure it includes the digitizer.  Not even Lenovo lists the display for this model in their spare parts section.  I have downloaded the service manual for the P/Z series laptops, and it does not describe how to change the display for the touch models, just states the p400 touch uses a touch screen module that can't be disassembled.  Also, the maintenance manual shows you have to almost completely take the computer apart to remove the display.  Really? I am hoping someone can help, my nephew is in the Marines and is leaving for Japan at the beginning of November, I really want to have it fixed for him.  I never imagined this would be such a mission!  Thanks for any help you can provide. Daniel

Answer:Broken P400 touch display HELP!!

hi dragondad,

Welcome to the Forums.

Check this disassembly video for the Z400 Touch as this is an identical model to the P400 Touch (see Touch Board and Display Assembly) and familiarize yourself in disassembling the unit.

As for the digitizer, the unit uses a Touch Board to enable the touch feature. If this is damage, you may need to replace this too besides the LCD Panel. Try to check the part # located at the bar code on the touch board and search it in google to get an identical Touch Board or check the following (see page 94 of the hardware maintenance manual).

I just purchased a refurbished P400 Touch and I cannot tell if it has a backlit keyboard or not.  The keyboard space bar shows the red backlit keyboard symbol but when I push Fn and the spacebar nothing happens.  Is there another setting I need to set up first or does my model just not have that feature? Get a messagebox saying "battery not detected" and it's not charging from mains. So laptop has now turned into a desktop... as needs plugging in continually... making it almost useless for purpose. This happened exactly after firmware update a few weeks ago. By coincidence the management software also kindly informed me that it could manage the battery better and stop it wearing out by only charging up to 90% - fair enough, but don't treat me like a muppet and disable it without any way to get it back. Tons of Windows 10 updates today (after not being able to use it for a few weeks) but still no battery. I tried F1 BIOS but nothing there to enable the battery (only to disable it). This is frankly a joke - timing shows it's due to the firmware update because the battery was fine and lasted a couple of hours right before. In 25 years of countless laptops, have never had this problem - batteries weaken gradually but don't suddenly lock up and require a paid replacement suddenly. How do we run down our original battery properly before polluting the planet? Phil

Hi All, I foolishly ran the Lenovo software update tool and one of the updates that installed was battery firmware v1.13. The update failed part way through and ever since my battery is having an existential crisis - I know it's plugged in and 100% charged but it reads 0% (or sometimes a red X) and the machine shuts down when AC power is removed. Being out of warranty the phone line people just keep trying to sell me a new battery and have no ideas on how to fix the existing one. I've tried the firmware update multiple times but with no joy. Also tried sourcing previous versions of the firmware which doesn't work. My battery was not one of those listed for recall. Latest and best suggestion was that it may be a motherboard issue and I could confirm by plugging in a different battery to see if it works - with absolutely no suggestion who would let me borrow their battery and plug it into my possibly killer machine. Has anyone else had a similar problem and found a fix? Is anyone based in Perth, Western Australia and want to let me experiment with their battery? {you crazy fool!} Does anyone know how to contact an actual Lenovo person rather than the useless call centre (1800 041 267 from Australia, seemingly connecting to Malaysia or Thailand judging by the accents)? Consumer law in Australia would suggest these guys owe me a new battery regardless of warranty status but I don't know how I can force the issue if I can't even speak to them???&... Answer:Thinkpad Edge E420 Battery dead after firmware update 1.13

This happened to me today. The solution is to restart the computer and enter the BIOS.  Then use the arrow keys to move to the config tab, then down to the power option, hit enter, scroll down to the disable built-in battery, hit enter, then follow dirctions on the right.  You will unplug the power cord to shut down the computer and when you plug it back in and turn it back on the battery will be recognized.  if not , try the process again as it took me two tries.  hope this helps.

Happy to report that I went ahead and everything seems to work fine. I first updated to 8.1 (screen brightness didn't work of course, you need to install the intel video drivers from lenovo though they are older, they make the brightness control work). Then I updated to bios 1.21. Then "Downgrade the intel video drivers" to the one from lenovo driver page and everything seems fine so far.

I have read that when buying a Lenovo product, the hard drive comes partitioned in 3 parts. You can see 2 of them in "My Computer" and the 3rd is hidden for security reasons. I have also read that the OneKey recovery program saves the backup image in that 3rd partition. My problem is that the default path leads to a 22 GB partition with the OS on it and it not nealry large enough to hold my 149 GB backup image. I would change the backup location to this "3rd partition" but since it is hidden, i cannot. does this sound right to anyone? My source:http://knowhow.com/article.dhtml?articleReference=4434&country=us

Answer:P400 Touch OneKey Recovery Question

That source is correct provided you don't mess up with the partitions. That is resizing, moving, etc. partitions is a no no because you will loose the OKR functionality. BTW, there are more than three partitions.

If my laptop is in sleep/hibernation for extended periods the wireless disables itself and does not come back on. After experiencing this one too many times, I researched and found out about the silly power managment abilities and disabled that. However, now my laptop does not want to go into sleep and/or hibernation if the wireless' power managment capabilities are disabled. So, either I must deal with constantly rebooting the computer to re-enable the wireless OR deal with having to press & hold the power button to completely shut down the computer as not to have it stuck in a state of attempting to go into sleep mode and thus the fan is running at full bore.  I did call tech support about the issue. After 3 hours, their only solution was to do a system restore and install my system updates for me and then put me on a list to have software support call me (which never happened).  Any incite?

hi rwmorriss,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I hope that this is the powermanagement option that you're saying if not then follow these steps.

> Go to control Panel> Open Network and Sharing Centre> Click on "Change adapter settings" (located on the left pane)> Right click the "Wi-Fi" icon and select "Properties"> Click on the "Configure" Button> Select the "Power Management" Tab> Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"> Click OK
Also

try disabling hybrid sleep
You can follow these steps
http://www.mydigitallife.info/turn-off-and-disable-hybrid-sleep-in-windows-vista/

Make sure both are disabled with AC plugged in and when battery, then save changes

Hope this helps,
