Ideapad z580 recovery after hdd fail - note Lenovo documents incorrect

Question: Ideapad z580 recovery after hdd fail - note Lenovo documents incorrect

Not a happy bunny. Originally I used the Lenovo inspired system backup so in the event of a hdd fail I had a thumb drive with the recovery media. WRONG Of course I now know I was an idiot - the Lenovo only works if you have the recovery partition on the hdd, which of course you won't have with a new hdd. You must take a full bootable disk image to recover the complete system - be warned, the hdd must be the same size or larger than the original. So at great expense (mine) I had to order the recovery disks from Lenovo @ ?38 - They come without instructions, fine I thought set the BIOS to boot from the DVD - WRONG. Looked up the online recovery disk procedure - WRONG There is no functionality on the Z580 for the F1 key (try the F2 Lenovo!!) That in itself is not good enough - there is nothing in the instructions to tell you to change from IUEFI mode to |egacy - without which the system won't boot from the recovery disks. Moral of this story - don't take the Lenovo documentation at face value - I like the laptops, but their documentation and recovery methodolgy stinks. Hope this helps those with a Z580 recovery situation.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello - please bear in mind that I am not technically proficient, but in fairness i don't think one should be.  As the Lenovo doesn't come with a back-up or recovery disc, I obviously need to make up my own.  I thought that the OneKey recovery system would lead me through it (it says it's "easy-to-use"), but right away I'm confused:  what's the difference between "System Backup" and "System Recovery"?  I keep reading the blurb and I've read the "Help" file, but I'm not getting any closer to understanding  The System Backup seems to require 98.9 GB space, which obviously the hidden drive doesn't have.  I'd need a stack of DVD-Rs for this (I was kind of hoping two or three) or a whole new removable drive  -- does this seem right?  But, again, what am I looking for, a System Backup or a System Recovery?  On my old Acer, it used to lead you through this step by step and it was incredibly simple.  Now, it seems the only simple thing is me.  Any patient help would be much appreciated.  Thanking in advance, Adam K.

Answer:completely lost - Creating a recovery disc for IdeaPad Z580 (and OneKey Recovery)

They are similar. One difference is that if the disk is defective you cant use OKR anymore. Thus you can't do any restoration yourself. You will have to send in your unit to Lenovo to have the disk replaced and your system restored to factory default. You don't need a stack of DVD-Rs to save your backup ... System backup files can be saved in an external Hdd drive plus the creation of a Repair DVD disk for startup and restoration purposes.

Hello,I have a Ideapad Z580 which came pre-loaded with Windows 7 Home Basic. When the Windows 8 Pro upgrade was available, I applied the same using the windows upgrade utility. this was over an year ago. However, during this time since I use the laptop for my work, a lot of BI apps have been installed and uninstalled from it resulting in an overall system slow down.I therefore want to restore the laptop to the factory condition. I dont need any of the other pre-installed applications, just the OS restored either Windows 8 or even the Default windows 7 home basic would be fine. The problem is I dont have any of the recovery disks for ither of the versions. Can anyone suggest what can be done here? Thanks,Ashish K

Answer:IdeaPad z580 recovery/restore

Hi Ashish,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

I understand your concern, but as you have upgraded the OS (Operating System) without creating the recovery discs for the pre-installed Windows 7. Hence, the OKR (One Key Recovery) button can be used if there are no changes made in the drives in the HDD (Hard Disk Drive). If there is any changes in the Recovery Partition will affect the OKR, the only available option is to contact our Technical Support for Assistance to get guided to exact department of sales for more information regarding the concern.

Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number. I?m sure they will be a great help.

Do post us back for further queries.

Best Regards

This machine has been working fine until the battery died. On purchasing a replacement and after charging I switched on the machine only to be confronted with a black screen with the icons above the keyboard flashing, then after a couple of seconds the machine re-starts with the same symptoms and continues to start-shutdown-start. I have removed the power adaptor and the battery and held down the power button for around 60 seconds without success. The reset/restore button that is located next to the power button only produces the same result when pressed.During the start-up process, NOTHING is seen on the laptop screen OR an externally connected monitor. I have also tried known good replacement RAM and hard drive and have installed a new CMOS battery but the fault persists. Can the BIOS be updated via a bootable USB flash drive without access to the screen? I seem to have a failed laptop Can anyone suggest a remedy?

Answer:what is best windows for lenovo ideapad z580 ?

Hi jimrako,

This is really a tricky question because it depends on your hardware.

The best way I can think of answering this is by providing you the requirements for each then you can check against your requirements:

Windows 10:

RAM:
1 gigabyte (GB) for 32-bit or 2 GB for 64-bit
Hard disk space:
16 GB for 32-bit OS 20 GB for 64-bit OS

Graphics card:
DirectX 9 or later with WDDM 1.0 driver
Display:
800x600
Cons: a bit of a learning curve as it changes a lot

Windows 8

Processor: 1 GHz or faster processor
Memory(RAM): 1 GB RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
Hard Disk: 16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
Graphics: DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver
Cons: Without Touch it is not intuitive

Windows 7

Processor: 1 GHz or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
Memory(RAM): 1 GB of RAM (32-bit)/2 GB of RAM (64-bit)
Hard Disk: 16 GB of available disk space (32-bit)/20 GB (64-bit)
Graphics: DirectX 9 graphics device with Windows Display Driver Model 1.0 or higher driver
Cons: None really, it is awesome

Windows XP

Processor: 233 MHz CPU
Memory(RAM): 64 MB of RAM (may limit performance and some features)
Hard Disk: 1.5 GB of available hard disk space
Graphics: Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher-resolution video adapter and monitor
Cons: No longer supported by Microsoft

Again, this is my opinion, without a touch sc... Read more

Dear Team, I bought Z580 ideapad last week with Windows 8 pre installed. I wanted to take backup of my windows 8 OS for safe keeping. If in case my OS crashes or if I change my OS from Windows 8 to other OS and later if i want to change it back to my licensed Windows 8. I heard about this onekey recovery. Is this option available only for recovering the OS during crash ? or Can I take backup of my OS using this feature ?. Please tell me how to take backup of my Windows 8 OS using onekey recovery or by any other method avilable. So that at any time i might be able to have my licensed OS.

Answer:Taking Windows 8 Backup using one key recovery on my Z580 Ideapad

Hi friendLenovo offers one key reocvery to the user to revert to the factory install only. You can create a custom backup of your c drive via the onekey recovery application in windows. However, to use that backup, you will have to boot to onekey recovery by pressing the onekey button next to the power button to power on the laptop. So if somehow the okr breaks( i hope it doesn't), you will neither be able to reset to factory defaults nor use the backup created by you. So you can use the inbuilt recovery options of windows 8. See this threadhttp://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-8/Various-Ways-of-recovery-in-Windows-8/td-p/947369And this linkhttp://support.lenovo.com/en_IN/downloads/detail.page?DocID=HT076024Hope this helps

Hi,I have a problem with my Lenovi Ideapad Z580. Below you can see the hardware specifications. My problem is that laptop is lagging (freezing) whenever I run movies, listen to music, youtube, basically while doing anything. It happens randomly, lasts only for few moments (like a scratchy noise). I do not need to restart computer, but it's very annoying and concerning, especially because the machine is only few months old and I would say, quite powerful. Just to give you some information in regards to what I tried so far:  - I checked processes in task manager whenever lagging occures > I noticed no issues. I mean, CPU ussage, Disk Usage etc. are all under 30-40-50% (if not less)  - Checked if laptop is overheating - 100% not the case, laptop is cold, normal temperature. I had a similar problem on my old Acer that was overheating, so I would know if this would be the problem - I ran virus scan - let me say that computer came installed with McAffee Security, which I disabled and installed Avast (free), as I read that McAffee can cause Wireless connection problem (which I had by the way...) - Updated Nvidia card drivers Any help, opinion would be appreciated, as I am getting more and more concerned with this issue. LenovoItem Weight2.6 KgProduct Dimensions25 x 37.6 x 3.3 cmBatteries1 Nonstandard Battery batteries required. Hello everyone, I've just bought used Lenovo IP Z580 white (without OS), installed Windows 7 64bit and every 2-3 days I have problem with it. I've installed all drivers, the pc works fine, but as I said, I got a problem with restarting. On the screen shows Lenovo logo, then it disappears and it restarts in the cycle. I have tryied various BIOS settings, when the SATA controller mode is on "AHCI", windows will not boot and it crashes with BSoD and there's no chance to start the system. when it's on the second option "Compatible", it works often but with this setting it will doing the problem with restarting.  I know, this post/problem was here already, but I tryied to do, what u were advising and my problem still persists. I am trying to find the final solution and the Win7 will be stable and reliable. I know that, when this ntb was made, there wasn't any Windows 8, nevertheless I don't want Win 8. Now I can only flash the BIOS, it is the last thing, I can do. If the problem will persist, I don't know what should I do with the notebook. (I can return it to the shop only). If you need my system specs or something, just ask. Sorry for my bad English, thanks for your replies

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad Z580 - Restarting during boot

Seeme to be a motherboard or HDD issue.

You should get a technician look at it or preferably, return it for another laptop. If a newly bought laptop is doing that, it doesnt sound good for its future.

Hi all, Hope you are doing well, First of all, thank you for your time and please do not refer me to any other forums as I have gone through all of them without any success. (There is no solid solution) Okay, so I have got a Lenovo z580 which I wanted to install Ubuntu via Wubi on. As you may expect, it did not work (possibly due to the SecureBoot feature). Anyhow, since then, I still can see the blue window (4 options) when I press OneKey recovery "Novo Button" button but not able to access to my system BIOS. I have tried: Pressing repeatedly F1, F2, B, F12, Delete, Fn + F2 (each in different attempts).Holding F1, F2, B, F12, Delete, Fn + F2 (each in different attempts) before pressing Power button.Holding F1, F2, B, F12, Delete, Fn + F2 (each in different attempts) just right after pressing Power button.Turned the machine off, pressed OneKey recovery button "Novo Button".Taken out battery and AC cord, held Power button for 30 secs and then put the battery in.Taken out the internal HDD and follow the number 5 attempt.Gone to UEFI settings via Windows 8 (Shift+restart)Tried the bootrec.exe /fixmbr command.Reset the machine to factory settings using the 4th option in the OneKey recovery.Checked my HDD partitions against a healthy machine to make sure I have all the factory pre-defined partitioned (Positive).*NO SUCCESS WHATSOEVER* I remember before the incident, when I used to go into the BIOS settings, the boot order was HDD first (mean... 2. Download and install  Paragon Backup & Recovery 12 Home (free trial)
3. Run the Paragon Backup & Recovery 12 Home and choose Hard Disk Migration to migrate the OS from the HDD into the SSD (see complete guide here)

4. When finished, shut the computer off, take out the HDD (see page 35-39 of the hardware maintenance manual), remove the SSD out of the USB enclosure and insert it in the laptop.

5. Turn the computer ON and observe (if the boot priority is different, you may need to press F12 on power-up and choose the SSD drive to boot into Windows).

Hello. There is something wrong with my WiFi, everytime I try to use my internet connection to ie. load YouTube movie or any page it takes ages to do so. I have to HLSW installed, it has function to show latency on your connection, whenever I don't do anything it stays around 15-20ms, but strange thing happens if I try to do anything at all that requires internet connection, even loading simple page takes it up to 1500-2000ms. Oh, and there are more CPUs in home network and they are working fine, so it's not internet provider issue. I wasn't like that from beginning, it started couple of days ago, tried reinstalling drivers couple times, tried looking for solution here, couldn't find any, do any of you have any idea what should I do to fix it?

Hi, I just purchased a brand new, in-the-box Lenovo IdeaPad Z580 laptop. It was advertised as having built-in Bluetooth technology. I just received the computer in the mail today. When I took the computer out of the box and booted it, I noticed that there was no icon for Bluetooth anywhere. I downloaded a driver off Lenovo's website and tried to install it, but the driver crashed in mid-installation. Some websites suggest checking the BIOS and enabling/disabling (and re-enabling) Bluetooth under the settings, but when I go to the settings, there is no Bluetooth device listed. Lenovo website says that to edit Bluetooth settings, you must press Fn/F5 simultaneously. When I do this, all that comes up is a screen with settings for my Wireless Network Card. There is supposed to be both Bluetooth and Wireless there. Other people have said they have experienced this situation as well, but nobody seems to have a solution online. I am using the packaged OS (Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit). Device Manager does not list any Bluetooth device, from what I can see. What gives? It's a brand new machine.

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Z580 Bluetooth Problem

There should be an BT enable/disable option in your bios, but as you have said you cannot find one, the box that you Z580 came in has the specifications on a white label on the  side, mine says BT 2.1 even though it`s BT 4.0 , you might not have BT have a look. EDIT : I had to remove the cover off the bottom of my Z580 to check the wifi card model  i had, it`s only 1 screw, take a photo and post it here, you will not invalidate your warranty as long as you dont damage anything. EDIT 2: the link below is a photo of my wifi card in my Z580 the part circuled in red is the lenovo part number, which is listed in the service manual pdf as an Broadcom BCM4313 + BT4.0 Post what the number is on your wifi card and i should be able to tell if you have bluetooth. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/policeman999/wificard_zpsa5bfef89.jpg John.

Hello, Recently I bought Lenovo IdeaPad z580 (model 20135), I really like it, but I have problem with it's partitions,  it come with 4 partitions    - 200 MB Windows boot.    - 420 GB Windows 7 OS.    - 30 GB Derives.    - 20G Rescue System. All of them are "primary" partitions, how I can make logical partitions without delete any of them? I really tried to search and read many posts in forum, but I can't get any satisfactory answer. Thanks In advance :-)

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad z580 with 4 primary partitions!

Hi and welcome to the communityIf you didnt play with the partitions and these are the factory default partitions then theWindows boot and windows 7 os partitions are system partition. The 30 gb partition is the logical drive/partition and20gb partition is the oem partition.Maybe a snapshot of the disk management would tell us better. Tweaks on the settings as suggested by the manufacturer might also help.

Never over 30 min with no signal, though. (BTW, just today my laptop refused to power on. This is about 2 months after the wifi problem started. So.... you've been warned.)

Answer:Bluetooth issue with lenovo ideapad z580

hi nairajin,

Welcome to the Community.

Is there any specific error message when you're not able to transfer anymore files thru bluetooth?

To verify if the bluetooth driver is causing the issue, try to:
1. navigate to Control Panel > Programs / Programs and Features and uninstall the Bluetooth Driver and reboot.
2. Open device manager and bluetooth device should look something like this:

3. Pair the device and try to send some files again
4. If the issue is solved, try to update Bluetooth Driver and observe

Bluetooth Driver (Cybertan, Liteon)Windows 8 32/64bit

I've recently been having issues with both my wireless adapter and the cooling fan in my Z580. I upgraded to Windows 10 about 1 year ago. My fan does not seem to work at all, I can't hear it and the laptop climbs to very high temperatures. More recently the Wifi has been disconnecting and my router disapears from the list. Switching on and off the computer helps 80% of the time. I'm not exactly sure of where to start to try and resolve this.

Hi,I have the Lenovo Ideapad Z580, And for 2 years this has been working quite well. But recently I've started to get this weird problem.Whenever I start up World of Warcraft the power goes out.Example; Battery is in battery is generally charging etc (there are some plugged in, not charging problems, but thats not the case now)So I removed my battery and just run on power. I managed to go back to original state. I can do almost everything in this situation....Untill i start world of warcraft. Once it loads.. poef.. power goes out.Pretend this; No battery and pull the cord.. thats basically it.. no nice shutdown nothing.Overheating cant be it, because when i use the battery I can play for hours...Anyone got ideas? Lenovo support is terrible, I have no replacement PC and the only thing I can thing about is the switch from Intel GPU to Nvidea.

Update; Have done some OCCT tests,First time without battery, started GPU test... and bye bye... pc went off right away.2nd try, with battery, GPU test; it went on from battery, notification clearly showed that it was not plugged in.

I'm trying to remove the Lenovo Ideapad Z580 keyboard, as I'm having keyboard issues and common symptoms on the internet seem to suggest that my internal keyboard connector is loose. Now I followed the directions on the Service Manual but one of the steps, after removing the necessary screws, seems to require me to press on the keyboard from behind. However no matter how much force I apply the keyboard doesn't pop out and I'm nervous about applying more force/trying more, as the tools I use to try and push the keyboard out are making marks. I've made sure a dozen times and more that all the necessary screws were out but no dice. Do I have to apply more force? Am I pushing it the wrong way? The manual is a bit unclear on this step. Help!  The keyboard desperately needs to be corrected, as it goes through periods of 30 min.- an hour of spastic non-function and I really need it to not happen to me during important work sessions.

Answer:Removing the Lenovo Ideapad Z580 keyboard

Hi martyback, welcome to the forums,

the keyboard needs to be pressed down and gently pushed towards the front of the system and then lifted from the rear of the keyboard. If your tools are making marks they're probably metal? Try using something thin and made of plastic like a credit card.

Don't know if you've already found them, but you could look at the Lenovo movies.  Go to FRU Videos > FRU Service Keyboard.  (Also not exactly how I describe it above, but may be of help).

I am considering getting the z580 (model# 215168U) at lenovo website due to their free return/no restocking fee offer. Still, I would be disappointed if I had to return it after trying. Many people on this forum apparently had issues with no customer support/resolution with Thinkpad edge e530, the laptop I initially considered buying. I do not want to be in their shoes. So, z580 a reliable purchase from lenovo.com in your experience (those who bought)? I am assuming that I would be on my own if the laptop has any issues  based on some experiences posted here.

Answer:Ideapad Z580 win8 system crashed, where can i download oem or recovery

Hi Hang,

Lenovo systems come with the One Key Recovery Feature.  There should be a small button next to the power button.  This allows you to restore the system back to factory settings.  With the computer shut down, pressing this button allows you to access the hidden partition on your hard drive. You will be prompted with the option to restore the computer back to factory settings. However since you installed Windows 7 on the computer, this feature may no longer work.

To recover back to Windows 8 you will need to get the RCD's for your Ideapad Z580.  There is no download available for OEM Windows 8. You may contact warranty support for your options.  The warranty support number is 1-877-453-6686.

Hey,

I seem to be having an issue with the wireless on my Lenovo Ideapad Z580.

After a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate I have no wireless. The "Network Controller" controller comes up as flagged under Device Manager. Installing the wireless drivers provided from the official website doesn't help, they either tell me I don't have the correct hardware or tell me it hasn't installs and gives me the option to reinstall using recommended settings, which also doesn't help.

Any help at all would be really appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, i Have recently updated my Ideapad Z580 to windows 8. While using the power management application i came to know it misses out the modes as it was in Windows 7. Its does not even shows up the visual display when you press the Thermal management key.  I have to go to the hidden icon tab to select the Energy management, wherein there are options which i cannot understand what are they use for like Intelligent power saver. The options provided are very different from the ones provided in the Windows 7 version. Also, the function keys & other keypad layout got changed when i upgraded to Windows 8. Like the function for turning the Wi-Fi & bluetooth in windows 7 got changed. To write special character (@) changed. its now typing (") when upgraded to windows 8. Function key feature (Fn+F4) not working in windows 8. Can anyone tell me is the windows 8 Energy management application better than the windows 7 one or viceversa. if not, is lenovo trying to upgrade the features in the windows 8 version of energy management application & other applications like in the windows 7 ones.   Thank you.

Just to preface this - I am pretty well versed in computers, have helped friends and family with numerous computer issues and only get tech support involved as a last ditch effort if its beyond software/driver issues. So I buy my daughter a refub Z580 quad core Win 8 laptop directly from Lenovo last June 2013 for her birthday - Her first laptop.  First Lenovo laptop I have purchased. Besides the horrible touchpad (Which I turned off)  Immediately the laptop has sound issues which require me to send in to repair as it was a hardware issue.  Then over the last year and 2 months have fought with Internet connectivity issues - coming out of sleep it or starting up it can't see a connection, even though its there.  I have tried all the fixes, updating drivers, reverting drivers, turning off power saving etc. Well the latest, and probably the last thing to happen is my daughter turns it on the other day and display has just static vertical streaks on the right side of the screen for about 2 inches to the right edge -  So either the display is shot already or the graphics card, and this conveniently happens 2 months after the warranty ends.  Also, since Win8 uses a charms bar on the right side, can't even use that.  So I am trying to plug in a VGA external monitor to determine if the issue is the screen itself or the graphics card/processor.  Can't seem to get the computer to recognize a vga cable is plugged in - What do I do to acti... Hi there I am unable to enter the bios on my Z580 ideapad. This was after I discovered that I cannot change the boot sequence (to install the Windows 8.1 preview via ISO). I have attempted all the following options without success:1. Hit F2 during boot2. Hit FN-F2 during boot3. Hold down B during boot4. Use the Lenovo OneKey recovery button, and selecting the option Bios Setting (this should definitely work)5. Windows 8 Advanced Restart6. Tried F5, F8, F10, F11 and F12 during boot7. Tried DEL button during boot8. Turning off Windows fastboot and re-attempting steps 1 to 7 above. Nothing works. Lenovo, why is this not working? RegardsJoe

So heres my problem, i wont lie my z580 aint new one , its been guess already 2-3 years; well for the first year, remember being able to change uefi settings, but then it somehow was unchangeable; however i didnt think that it ll be an issue, i mean no big deal, at least not worthy to register in forums or contacting support center as m tooo lazy; well then 2-3 days ago i accidentally deleted windows 8 boot entry, and its not big deal as with cmd u can back it up, however i tried with shift + reboot automatic repair first as i knew if i turn pc off i wdnt be able to boot as no bios option available and thought automatic repair is guaranteed option however it turned out that automatic repair cdnt fix it and it made me reboot, and thats how i got stuck and not being able to change anything, whenever u boot it says bcd is missing, and only available option is esc=change uefi settings which ll just reboot and endless loop, i tried every combination keys to try to discover that bios key, nothing, and here is the problem even if i try to repair with windows 8 cd it wont boot it, it ll just keep saying bcd is missing as i cant prioritize cd rom over hdd; so after rampaging for 5 hours i discovered some new option, it turns out that novo button actually works but instead of pressing it when laptop is booting u have to press it while its turned off, and then 4 new menus but after trying them all i discovred that they dont function as well at least half of them , as bios setup and norm... Info- I am using a Lenovo IdeaPad Z580 with windows 8
So just earlier today my wifi was working fine. Then randomly I lose wifi and it won't list any networks that I can connect to. I did some troubleshooting and it says that my Software Radio is off. How do I turn it back on? I do not have a switch or button anywhere that I can see on my laptop.

Normally the radio button is in the control panel under wifi/ or wireless adapters. You will be able to turn it on/off from there.

I have just bought the laptop and I have a few questions and problems.  My Problem: The laptop will not detect a wireless connection for some reason as in the icon in the bottom right corner for network connections displays a red x.  1. Checked fn +f5 and there is no connection displayed there2. Restarted laptop, didn't fix it3. Tried installing WLAN drivers from the support page and restarted the laptop with no luck. I think there is no WLAN Adapter. The only adapter it has in device manager is the PCI Family Controller. Do you have any advice?   Also,  My laptop has 2 graphics cards apparently. One is the IntelHD 4000 and the other is the Nvidia GT 630M. Why does the IntelHD 4000 graphics card display in DxDiag where as the nvidia one does not? Both cards are present, however, when checking device manager.  Thanks for the help. I hope I can get a fast reply as I may have to return it within 2 weeks.  Thanks.

I'm guessing it's not but if it's still under warranty send it for repair.

Is the screen completely blank all the time, no text or anything else is displayed at all ?

Shine a light onto the screen and check if there is a faint display of text etc.

Lenovo Ideapad z580 Win10 64 I updated the bios with the private update (I know now that I should have used the public update) Then it showed this menu:http://i.imgur.com/kZaO2tf.jpg Whenever I selected HDD, the screen would go black for a couple of seconds and return to this menu. I fixed it by going into BIOS and changing bootmode from UEFI to Legacy. it booted but now everything is slow. It takes 5 mins to boot up and a further 15 minutes to reach usable speeds (I only have 4 startup programs). I tried changing it back to UEFI and it gives me the same problem as shown in the picture. I tried installing the public update, but it says that I cannot update as the current bios version is the same or newer. I went into BIOS and enabled BIOS back flash, and now when I try to start the public update, it just crashes. I also cannot access the start menu (this problem may be seperate and unrelated) I have backed up files and am prepared to do a clean reinstall of Win10, but I feel this won't work as it's a BIOS issue. The computer is unusably slow: what should I do? Thanks

I want to go for extended warranty pack up.And how to update the warranty details for 2 years

Answer:what is the procedure for extended warranty pack for lenovo ideapad z580

hi vamsilenovo,

Thanks for Posting!

As far as I know as long as  the system is within the First year from the date of purchase the warranty can be extended and limited to three years Maximum.
And For upgrades some system only has a certain period from purchased date when they can upgrade the warranty.
Extension and Upgrades can be combine when purchased.

Warranty extensions and upgrades may vary depending on country and region.
I suggest to call you Local Support line about the Warranty Extension and upgrade.

Hi, Greetings!!! This is my first post to this forum as i bought my lenovo IDEAPAD Z580 laptop recently. I read the much about Disk Partitions and one key recovery query. Now, I decided that i wont bother about OKR and will go for fresh partition my disk drive as per my needs and a fresh installation of WIN7.So, my question is, what software and drivers i need to backup first so i will have all per-installed softwares/fucntion - keys working correctly except OKR after installation from scratch? Is backing up  all which are there in Lenovo_Driver Folder will serve the purpose? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Need all Softwares and Driver list required for LENOVO IDEAPAD Z580

Hi

Welcome To Lenovo Community

Since you wish to perform a fresh instillation, I would recommend that you first create a copy of recovery DVD?s using OKR, Then you can manually copy all the drivers from Lenovo Driver Folder to an external drive or thumb drive. You can also download all drivers from our support website

Recently my Z580 has been typing characters (specifiaclly a period) repeatedly, without me having pressed any key, whenever I open any applicaiton or software (such as notepad or the internet). Also whenever I press the b or n key it begins doing the same thing and types periods without stopping. I've tried cleaning the keayboard, but that didn't work. I have also tried booting in safe mode to see if the problem persisted and it did. I've scanned my computer for viruses as well but found nothing. So I'm out of ideas as to what to do. Thanks for the help

hi alebarraza,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

If the system is still within warranty, It would be best if you call Technical Team and ask fo assistance, I believe it is the Keyboard it self or the Keyboard cable that is causing this.

Hi All -I recently bought a new laptop, a Lenovo Ideapad Z580. It works wonderfully (although I will admit I'm not a fan of windows 8). Problem is, I always seem to have problems connecting to my home wifi connection. Before it worked perfectly, but now I've been having problems with it, seemingly out of nowhere. All the other tablets, phones, laptops and computers at home connect to the network just fine. My laptop will detect the home network go on an endless loop of "identifying," followed by "cannot connect to network", followed by "identifying" yet again.Keep in mind though, if I connect to the wifi on campus, or at starbucks or anywhere else it works perfectly. It's JUST my home network and I can't quite put my finger on it considering that all other devices at home work fine.I updated my drivers, restarted my drivers, ran a release/renew, TCP/IP reset, restarted the router, restarted my laptop, but none of these have worked. In the end, I gave up and simply plugged in an Ethernet cable in.If anyone has any other ideas, please let me know! This is getting frustrating considering my Ethernet cable is only like, 5 feet long.Greatly appreciated

Answer:Problems connecting to Home WIFI network Lenovo Ideapad Z580

Have a look in your device drivers then network adapters , the one for the broadcom wifi, double click on it and go to advanced then click on AP compatibility mode, the change it from high speed to broader compatibility. I don't know if this will help or not. John.

Hello friends, I have been struggling with my 4 year Lenovo Z580 ideapad that abruptly getting turned Off within 45/50 seconds of every power On. It's just instant and with small click noise. Upon continuous attempts i used to get very rare successful boots (keeping itself turned on even for hours/full day) upon 20/30 power on attempts with varying time intervals. Meanwhile i managed to run lenovo diags basic/extended on all peripherals with no errors, and managed to repair broken win 10 system/boot files couple of times thinking its BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO as it used to prompt earlier when it last powered on atleast for 2 minutes, But since couple of days its ALWAYS switching off within a Minute! Upon a lot of research i thought it could be since corrupted BIOS (might be caused by overheating CPU and fan not working for couple of weeks!) and as it also getting off upon simple DOS boots. So today, i decided to flash BIOS and followed instructions in a mail chain (https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-Lenovo-Z580-BIOS-Mod-V3-1-FINAL-02-07-DOWNLOAD) as can't boot Win 10 anymore, Started flashing BIOS-Mod-V3-1... via a USB stick i prepared, though i'm quite fearful about an abrupt shutdown! My fate, it got powered off during flash progress just when FPT client erased my current BIOS and when about to write new files **bleep**! As a result it seems i lost current/damaged BIOS and now if i try to boot, it starts with black screen! a new gift. Ofcourse i'm able to s... Read more

Hello NikosGr, Windows 8 is still a new Operating System, therefore glitches still need to be worked out in future updates. Make sure to go to Lenovo's support website and see if there are any drivers for those devices for Windows 8. Try the Windows 7 drivers too as some of those will work with Windows 8. As for the Broadcom card being slow, they are decent cards, but not the best. I've had issues with mine when I first got my laptop. Hope that helps.

hi, every oem partition is unique for a specific laptop, so you cannot find any image files on the internet, even if you do, it might turn you win7 or the other person's who put the image file on internet into a pirated win7. i think you have no choice but to turn you pc to the service for oem part installation. or you can find the factory default discs to reset your computer.  sorry mate, but oem partition problems are one of the worst

According to the Lenovo Manual, I had tried the following steps for installing the Lenovo official Windows 8 recovery disks that I purchased from the Lenovo Recovery Support: 1.  Insert Disk #1 into E:/ drive2.  Restart my PC3.  Shut down my PC completely4.  Press the small Novo button right beside the Power On button5.  Select "BIOS Setup" option, then press "Enter" I was expect to see 2 options, "Legacy" & "UEFI", but they did not appear on my screen, instead, after pressing "Enter", my screen was redirected to the home screen. Any idea on how to go to the "UEFI" & "Legacy" from the BIOS Setup? Thanks!

Answer:z580 - Which password to use if laptop is in safe mode ideapad z580 ?

hi akshu_13,

Welcome to the Forums.

If you're running on Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1, you should use the same password that you've set on your account.

If you're running on Windows XP, by default, you will see an additional Administrator account and the password is set to none. If you'll be using your own account and not the Administrator one then you should use the same password like in normal Windows.

Note:
Windows 8/8.1 can use a Microsoft Account and a Local Account. If you boot in Safe Mode only (not Safe Mode with Networking), you won't be able to use the Microsoft Account login as it requires internet access to verify your credentials, thus, you will need to use a Local Account.

Let me know if this helps you out.

Regards

Lenovo G50-45 recovery image failI have a Lenovo G50-45 (80E300MLGM) Windows 8 Bing (64bit) (updated to 8.1)I changed HDD with an SSD (used on a Mac previously, possible still formated to MacOS) and wanted to make an recovery DVD or USB from my laptop's factory HDD secret recovery partition.I found that i don't have the possibility to make it on DVD...only flash disc.I tried using Windows 8 Recovery Drive program.Made 2 flash discs..Then I installed the SSD to the laptop and booted from USB drive..I am from Greece but prefer the English menu. As video show the process stucks to the point it can't find the system image..https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49kmepOtRakDoes someone knows why?Is there an other wat to make a System Recovery Image?OneKey Recovery seems that doesn't support this option, but only cloning installed windows partition.

Answer:Lenovo G50-45 recovery image fail

I will tell you how I switched HDD to SSD in Lenovo B50-30 1. You will need additional computer 2. You need working Windows 8.1 Bing installed on your HDD Notice that windows 8 bing key will not work for windows 8! So you need to image your hdd with preinstalled windows! 3. Uninstall all unwanted programs 4. Go to control panel and reduce size of your Windows partition as much as you can! It should be smaller than your SSD 5. If you have D: patrtition delete it ( WAIT! Remember to backup any of your files that you have on D: ) 6. Your disk should looke like this: 1000 MB partition, about 300 MB EFI partition, 1000 MB oem partition, Window C: partition, lots of EMPTY SPACE and recovery partition at the end. 7. Remove your HDD from your laptop and connect to another computer AS ADDITIONAL DRIVE, don't allow to boot form it! 8. On that computer install Macrium Reflect Free This was the only tool that worked for me, other didn't work. 9. Make full, exact image of your laptop hdd 10. Keep this image this will be your racovery! 11. Now disconnect laptop hdd and connect ssd to that computer 11. Go to restore in Macrium Reflect Free 12. Select ONLY partitions that are BEFORE empty space on your hdd! Don't select recovery partition from the end of disk. Should select first 1000 MB partition. about 300 MB efi partition, 1000 oem partition and Windowc C: partition 13. Don't select recovery partition! 14... Read more

Ok, so first thing I do when I get a new PC...1.  Charge Battery2.  Start initially, go through any wizards to get into Windows for the first time3.  Reboot once4.  Log in to Windows5.  CREATE RECOVERY DISKS I mean I don't know how long ago but the trend has been vendors put either a recovery partition or provide imaging software to image the HD as is and this be your recovery disks... no problem... So I start the creating recovery disks process, and naturally it fails on the 3rd Disk... but it says to put in another blank disk and goes on... Now after I create a recovery disk I always put them to use and make sure they work... naturally it doesn't... results in a Blue Screen of Death.  No problem because I already knew I could reinstall from the Recovery Partition provided (I didn't do a complete HD recovery wiping out the recovery partition) I managed to recover just fine and tried to make a new set of Recovery Disks.......... now here's the kicker: I get a message saying "You can have only one copy of the Microsoft Windows operating system.  The Product Recovery Media Creator will exit now."  LOL Wouldn't be too much of an issue if they would have provided Windows 7 recovery disks w/ purchase instead of XP Pro only.  That I don't understand at all. So anyone know of how to reset the Recovery Media so I can created a NEW set of recovery disks?

Apparently the Recovery Disk creation accesses a file called"       RECOVERY.INI       " - how do we reset the Recovery Disk Creation process ???. Your sincerely, Not Happy X131E Owner

Answer:Lenovo X131E - recovery disk creation fail -

Hi stuG, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!

Sorry your hard drive crashed! It's unlikely that you will be able to create a good recovery disk set from a bad disk.

You can only try to make recovery disks once because Microsoft does not allow the creation of multiple sets.

Call Lenovo support and purchase a recovery disk set (1-800-041-267 6 AM - 9 PM AEST Monday - Friday).

Hope this helps!

Answer:(z580) Just wondered what lenovo software will work with the z580 ?

hi mikee77,

The Lenovo Z580 comes with these lenovo pre-installed apps:

Lenovo OneKey RecoveryLenovo OneKey TheaterLenovo Cloud Storage by SugarSyncLenovo Energy ManagementLenovo Companion

The Lenovo Companion is like an app store the features:

Third-Party Apps and Ads
Lenovo products, Tutorials, Application showcases, Lenovo accessories information, Lenovo Cloud, and a link to Lenovo blogs and articles

Most apps listed on the Lenovo Companion will work on the Z580 as long as it meets the system requirements (i.e. If an app is made only for Touchscreen models, then you will need to get the non-touchscreen version or if there's a Utility app that senses temperature on a specific model, make sure Z580 is on the supported models).

Having this same problem. I talked to a software help guy from Lenevo and he figured it was my disks that were broken, and ended up sending me new ones. Still having the same problem. Help!

As you're in western Europe you can order recovery discs through the following site, a small charge will be made.  If your model isn't recognised send a message through the contact form.
