Lenovo Y500 speakers not working but headsets are in Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

Question: Lenovo Y500 speakers not working but headsets are in Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

I am using a Lenovo Y500 for the last year and a half and would say that I am a satisfied customer. However, I have run into a very peculiar issue.I downgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.Audio Driver Realtek ALC 269. Dolby Home Theatre v 4 installed.Nvidia GeForce GTX 650M (driver version: 344.11) My on board JBL speakers have stopped working. But, when i plugin the audio jack of my 2.1 system, I am able to get audio on the 2.1. I have tried installing uninstalling drivers from Realtek and Lenovo (even tried with drivers for 8.1 64 bit) but to no success. Can someone please help me out here?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Is there a fix for getting my Logitech Premium Notebook Headset PN980445-0403 (goes behind the ear) to work with Ultimate? I need to be able to use it with my headset jack and a splitter with another headphone set. I also need to be able to use it with the splitter and some external speakers, preferably the Bose Monitors. The mic jack works with the Logitech headset (above).

I upgraded to Ultimate and suddenly these things do not work!

I need to be able to record through the mic with my headset on while someone else is listening through their headset or comfortably listening to speakers. (No external mixers, no subwoofers).

Thanks.

Answer:Headsets and Speakers w/Vista Ultimate 64

Wow thats quite an interesting setup. How is it that it doesnt work? Does the computer not sense anything plugged in? Or does it see it, but no audio?
Does the computer sees it, but the mic doesnt work?

You need to tell us HOW it doesnt work.

SO:
Are you using onboard audio (the one on your motherboard) or a sound card?
Try using each thing seperatly, such as jsut the speakers, and make sure that each thing works individually first.

hi guys, just recently bought this laptop and is really cool. but one thing is that the speakers won't work well. i taught such branded speakers, JBL will not have that kind of problem. During gaming, listening to music or watching movies, when i try to raise the volume higher, the speaker on the right side will have weird sharpy annoyng noises. i tried uninstall and reinstall the sound driver, but it doesn't help.  anyone can help me with this problem? the speaker on the left side still work well. only the right one is bothering me.  My lappy spec :window 8GT650m sli 4gb 1600ddr3 ram500gb hard diski7 2.4ghz processorFHD display

Answer:LENOVO Y500 SPEAKERS PROBLEM

hi lxproelite,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

If you have already re-installed the drivers from the lenovo support site (http://support.lenovo.com), can you try to enable loudness equalization and room correction under the Speaker Properties of the the Sound Settings.
 Spoiler (Highlight to read)
If  this doesn't work and the sound is ok when using headphones / external speakers, there's probably a defect or a short on the right speaker or the cable that goes to that speaker - see this similar thread.

Hope this helps.

Hello, When I first received my laptop the sound from the speakers was working fine. I wanted to test it right away because it was advertised as High Definition Sound and above average quality for a laptop. However, after a while, they stopped working entirely. I have gone through all the troubleshooting multiple times with drivers and installing/uninstalling, re-installing, changing around the devices. None of these solutions work.  After researching online, I have noticed that thousands of others with the Y series laptops have the same problem. I should note that the audio DOES work using an external device such as headphones or other speakers, but nothing comes out of the laptop speakers. I have found hundreds of topics and other users with the same problem looking for a solution, which I'm beginning to think that there isn't one. Considering everyone seems to receive faulty Y Series IdeaPads when it comes to the speakers, I'm wondering if anyone has had this problem and has fixed it successfully. I do not want to send it into to Lenovo support as they take an inexplicably and absurdly long time to fix it and send it back (I need it to do work, i cannot be without it for so long). I also do not want to see the video link that the Lenovo staff seems to think helps, to select your speakers as your default device. This is the solution i see posted most often which is mind-numbingly pedestrian and is not the problem at hand.  Anyways, my question ... Read more

Hello there i have a question about the JBL speakers in the Lenovo Y500. Let me start with saying what a great device this is, the keyboard, power, price and ofcourse, the sound are all a great update from my previous laptop. I have a question about the speakers, i like the sound coming out from it but was wondering if the build in speakers could blown up when you have the volume at 100 precent? If so, what is a 'safe' volume to listen to music from?

Answer:Lenovo Y500 speakers blown up danger?

HiNo my friend, you can use your JBL speakers at 100% without blowing them up. These type of check have been performed before sending it for sale. And moreover, my 2 and a half year old also has JBL speakers and they work perfectly without any problems.Regards

Hello all, I just got my Lenovo Y500 about a week ago and everything was working perfectly. I have been using my turtle beach headset and I guess I've been plugging and unplugging it alot which made something break? Whenever I plug into the audio, it works, but the internal speakers do not work at all.   When I go to Audio Devices with my headset plugged in, it shows my headset working as the "Speakers"  When I go to Audio Devices with my headset NOT plugged in, it shows Speakers working even with the green bar going up and down. I have no clue why this is happening, but has anyone come across this error or knows a solution to this? Thanks!

Answer:Y500 Speakers Not Working

the headphone audio board went bad, it thinks your headphones are plugged in, even when there not -- thats why u get no sound from the internal speakers. you'll have to replace that board to have internal speakers working again ... or you can always just hook up some external speakers

Hello, I recieved my Y500 notebook today. Everything is working on it except for my speakers. My audio is not disabled, I checked. I updated to the latest drivers. I pluged in headphones and they worked. I plugged and unplugged the headphones a couple times since I saw that as a solution somewhere. That didnt work. I took the battery out and tapped on the back to see if the wire was loose and that didnt give any results. It shows sound coming from the speakers in the volume controll but I can't hear anything. The only time I hear the sound is with my headphones plugged in.

If your computer is still under warranty, I would try contacting Lenovo about it.

Hi, I'm new to the forum. I have Ideapad Y500SLi  that I bought in may 2013. On friday I turned my Ideapad on, logged into Windows 8 and used computer for two minutes, but suddenly keyboard stopped functioning. Backlight brightness adjust works fine, but I couldn't type anything. I booted and it worked for two minutes and stopped functioning again. Well, I tried to update Windows but it didn't do anything for the problem. I tried to push keys for a long time, but it didn't also do anything.I restored Windows 8 and keyboard worked fine for 30-45 minutes after that but suddenly stopped functioning. I booted up and everything was back to that point that keyboard works fine for 2 minutes and then stops functioning. I tried to restore it again, but I can't get the restore window to pop up, my computer just pops up a blue screen with sad smiley face, it tries to shut down but it keeps itself in black screen. Only way to power down is to keep power button pushed down. When I try to shutdown in Windows it also keeps jamming in black screen. So, any suggestions? Can I do a clean Windows 8 install somehow? It feels like the problem is in the operating system and not in the hardware. EDIT: I tried to use computer with external usb-keyboard and it works just fine with it! Any ideas?

My laptop is only six months old and its have been great but then this problem appeared: I was gaming at the time when my laptops sounds disappeared. I had only 20% volume. Then I checked drivers and all settings and they didn't help... I tried to put headphones and noticed that they worked just fine. I took the laptop on my lap and then speakers worked again. So I tried to press the bottom of the laptop very carefully and noticed that sometimes speakers work and sometimes doesn't. I think that its some kind of contact failure... I have one and half years warranty left. Should I take this to store were I bought this or is there some easier way to get this repaired?

I have a laptop running both windows 10 and ubuntu. The audio worked just fine but since yesterday I couldn't hear a thing  on windows or ubuntu.. There is a red circle with a white 'X' on the speaker icon in the taskbar. When I hower my mouse over it, it says "No Audio Output Device is installed".
I tried to find solutions online but I couldn't solve the issue. I don't have the  "Sound, Video and Game Controllers" option under Device Manager. Sound/ Playback gives the message  "No audio devices are installed". I can't open the Realtek app. When I ran driver easy, it said that Realtek audio is unplugged.
Please do help me. I've been working on this for a while now and have had no luck. Any help is appreciated.Thank you.

theodorebear,Click the link below to choose your computer model and then the OS you have installed. Download and install the chipset drivers first and reboot. You can then download and install the audio drivers and install them as well. Reboot the machine. Depending on the system Dell may not have Ubuntu drivers.

Hello everyone, lately I've been receiving issues with the audio coming out of the wrong place when im using my new headphones. I'm not sure if it could be a problem with skype because it only happens when im on a call with somebody.

So every time im in a call with someone on skype, the audio from the call stays in my headsets just fine and usual but everything else starts coming out from my speakers. This is especially annoying because my headsets are noise cancelling and i cannot hear the audio properly from the speakers anymore.

Also the headsets i am currently using are SteelSeries Siberia V2

Answer:Audio comes out of both headsets and speakers

Hi Electros,

Skype has it's own Audio section in the settings iirc, open Skype, find the audio settings and in there you can chose from a drop down menu which device you want for playback and mic.

Earlier today I emerged from a bathroom break to find my headphones in the middle of the floor with the plug bent thanks to my dog. Now the strangest thing has happened: My speakers won't work. I know they're on; when I turn them up I can hear a hiss, but there's no other audio. There's no evidence to suggest my dog got to them and it's almost impossible for him to reach. What has happened? The speaker plug is in the computer rock solid. The only remote possibility I can think of is that the computer somehow didn't realize the headphones have left the audio jack, but looking around I have seen nothing to suggest that the headphones are still registering.

Does anybody know what has happened?

UPDATE: I got the headsets fixed. It seems my theory might be correct, as the PC does not notify me anymore when I plug them in or remove them.

Answer:My headsets are broken, so my speakers don't work?

Were the headphones plugged into the computer when the dog got to them? If so, my thought is that the thing the headphone plugs into may be damaged.

What is the make and model of the computer?

Hi

My laptop speakers were disabled when I plugged in and plugged out the headset. Now the sounds are audiable in headset but not from my laptop speakers.

Kindly suggest how to restore my laptop speakers?

Answer:Speakers disabled when I plugged in and out the headsets

Barring a problem with the headphone jack, after you unplugged the headphones, try reinstalling the device. Go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the device to highlight it, then click Uninstall (DO NOT Uninstall the drivers). Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound. If this doesn't fix it, reinstall the PC vendor's sound drivers.

Welcome to sevenforums, Vorbias.

Have you checked the volume control to ensure that when the headphones are plugged in it is set to a high volume? I had the same issue and making the volume control visible on the taskbar and then opening the "mixer" when I plugged in the headset and setting the volume up fixed it.

Hi Everyone,

This forum has been fantastic for helping me with a virus issue, so hopefully, you all can help with an audio issue. I think I put this in the correct forum, if not please move.

I recently updated my nVidia graphics drivers, but somehow it messed up my audio as well. I have heard that this can happen for some strange reason. Before this issue, I had my audio coming through my 2 logitech desktop speakers and sub perfectly. Also, when I would plug in a USB Headset and Microphone the USB Port would stop any future audio going to my speakers, and instead, put them into the headset. I would typically be playing a game having the sound coming out of the speakers, but if I wanted to listen to a little tunes, I could plug in the headset and listen to some music but still have game sounds on the speakers. Now basically what the issue is, when I plug the headset into the front USB jack, I hear myself breathing (never did that before). In addition, the audio does not go to the headset on 1 of the 2 jacks. Also, now when I use the application Ventrilo, it will not recognize my headset.

It may help to provide what I have as far as hardware:

WinXP Home 32 bit
Intel Quad Core Q9300
ASUS P5Q PRO Turbo Mobo
Antec 900 Case (two USB in front)
EVGA GeForce GTX460

Not sure if there is anything else that would need to be provided. Also, I checked the device manager, and there are multiple instances of: nVidia HD Audio, so I am not too sure what that is all about. In f... Read more

Hello, my laptoip was dropped so i had to replace the old hdd and install 8.1 myself. for the most part i have everything up and running like old but the usb port on the right side is not working at all "always on" on otherwise. any help would be appreiciated.

Answer:Lenovo y500 always on usb not working after having to replace hdd

Please shutdown the system then boot it up again. As it is booting up, please press F2 repeatedly until you enter the BIOS setup.Be careful and do not make any changes. Check what is the setting for Always On USB, Is it Enabled or Disabled. You can change this setting as you like. Then select 'Exit saving changes'. Let me know if the USB posrt starts working.

I bought my laptop new 1 month ago from the lenovo website, I downgraded to windows 7 with no issues.. One week ago the webcam stopped working, so I uninstalled, reinstalled drivers, and nothing. I did a system restore, and still no change. This seems to be a problem for some but mine seems to be unique in that once I did a system restore windows could not find the hardware at all. I've tried all the drivers that are on the website but it seems the camera itself is having issues. Thanks for the help in advance.

Answer:Lenovo y500 webcam not working

Try this:Boot in safe mode. Go to device manager and unistall & delete the camera driver. Go to Add new hardware and install your camera driver. Reboot.

On Y500 using the built-in microphone (Realtek High Definition Audio)  NO sound is recorded at all.Tested it with making a recording with Win8/Win8.1 audio recorder, audacity, skype and youcam.Checked the recording with audacity but no signals recorded.Problem existed on Win8.Now I updated to Win8.1 and installed the latest camera- and audio drivers from Lenovo support.I remember (for what it is worth) it has worked in the beginning (8 months ago) but for some reason not anymore. Does anyone know how to tackle this problem? Device info as audacity reports:==============================Default capture device number: 1Default playback device number: 3==============================Device ID: 0Device name: Microsoft-geluidstoewijzing - InputHost name: MMEInput channels: 2Output channels: 0Low Input Latency: 0.200000Low Output Latency: 0.200000High Input Latency: 0.400000High Output Latency: 0.400000Supported Rates:==============================Device ID: 1Device name: Microfoon (Realtek High DefinitHost name: MMEInput channels: 2Output channels: 0Low Input Latency: 0.200000Low Output Latency: 0.200000High Input Latency: 0.400000High Output Latency: 0.400000Supported Rates:==============================Device ID: 2Device name: Microsoft-geluidstoewijzing - OutputHost name: MMEInput channels: 0Output channels: 2Low Input Latency: 0.200000Low Output Latency: 0.200000High Input Latency: 0.400000High Output Latency: 0.400000Supported Rates:    8000 &... I have a pretty new Lenovo Y500 with Broadcom Wireless 8.11g card and it's wireless is not working since today morning. It was working fine yesterday, when I was trying to disable the wireless so that I can work only thru LAN connection, I might have inadvertently struck something incorrectly though I dont believe so. Currently it says that the radio is not enabled and when i try to enable it by right-clicking the wireless icon in the system tray and then clicking on enable, it says it is still disabled and that I should turn on the harware switch which i have no idea about since I thought it was internal. PLEASE HELP!

Answer:Lenovo Y500 - wireless not working, please help

I got my new Lenovo Y500 series gaming laptop for a few days. This is a beautiful laptop and I have no problem until tonight. I cannot connect to Wi-Fi network. The temporary solution is to use an USB wireless adaptor. There must be something wrong with the built-in wireless receiver. I tried everything I can think of but with it still not working.Turn off the computer and take the battery out to reset the computer - Not workingDownload Intel wireless driver from Lenovo site - Not workingI will contact Lenovo for solution.

The audio quality of our built-in Beats Audio speakers is very good. Quality of audio played through BlueTooth is fine. However, the quality of the audio played through any device connected via the audio jack is terrible. The sound comes through as though the speakers or headset have blown cones when they sound absolutely fine connected to other devices (mobile phone, tablet, other computer, etc.). We have ensure that our Realtek drivers are updated and have seen many other complaints about this with no definitive means of correcting it. Has anyone learned of a way to fix this audio problem or should we simply plan to never play audio through this laptop to any speakers or headphones connected via wire? Thank you in advance for any advice you can offer.

I have an HP ProBook 4440s. I've been disappointed in the speaker volume since I bought it. Even after adjusting all the settings I could find it's like a whisper during movies, music, Internet Videos.  Everywhere I checked for the info. it said the device was working, and the drivers all said they were current and didn't need updating, Speccy only gave me this for the Audio Info.:

SoundcardAnvSoft Virtual Sound Device, High Definition Audio Device, and another,High Definition Audio Device

I can get more from a manual or HP site if needed.

So, I went to the greatest computer store on the planet,  Walmart, (a little humor folks..) and bought a iHome iHM60 Rechargeable speaker, an Apple Product, which said would work on anything..

I plugged it in, watched some drivers being installed and a few minutes later was listening to it. An improvement, but I won't recommend it. Surely there is something better in the $20 to $50 price range. Later, I turned it off,  unplugged the USB power cord and the 3.5  mm jack ( I needed the USB port ) did my thing, and then replugged in the iHM60.

Nothing, no sound anywhere. Skype doesn't work, none of my Players work (WMP, Wondershare Media Player, VLC, or Free All in One. No system sounds, nada.  Everything I could think of to check (above) still said everything was okay. The speaker website has no help and only an email support thing to London and they haven't responded. When it was plu... Read more

Lets clear the old usb drivers out of the way.

Download this tool to the machine in question unzip it to the desktop.
drivecleanup.zip

Move the 32 or 64 bit version of DriveCleanup.exe to C:\Windows\System32 Folder.
To do this hit the windows key and r at the same time and type the File Location C:\Windows\System32 in the run box.
Drag the 32 or 64 bit version of DriveCleanup.exe from the desktop into the C:\Windows\System32 Folder
.

Then Close all applications power your machine down and remove all usb devices except keyboard and mouse.
Then turn the machine back on and see below.

Open a command prompt by hitting the windows key and r at the same time and type cmd into the run box and hit enter.
Once the CMD window opens Type  or copy and paste drivecleanup.exe Hit enter.

This will clear all old usb drivers on your machine and hopefully help your issue.

Reboot and test.

When I "restart" my Y500 using windows 8.0, it takes a minimum of 15 minutes.  Sometimes, if I have time to wait, it takes more than one hour.   90% of the time, I restart it using the on/off button.  No problems at all using the button, but the software takes a VERY long time or won't restart at all--just the green screen with the word "restart."

Just recently got back from vacation and when I got back to my laptop I found out my w key stopped working, currently using a USB keyboard but its very small and I'd like to see if I can fix my original keyboard. Ive already removed the keycap and cleaned it out as best as I could, but even without the keycaps, it still doesnt work. I've also tried reverting back to factory settings (Windows 8.1 to Windows 8) but still nothing. My warrenty expired a while ago and I'm not sure what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,My name is Panos and i have a problem with my laptop's motherboard (the model is IdeaPad Y500).  I sent it for repair to lenovo here in greece a month ago and they answered to me yesterday that they can not find that spare part (the first time) and the second time i called they told me that they have a problem with their supplier. My opinion is that they do not want to fix it. After that they told me that I should send it back to where i bought it with replacement form. The problem is that i bought it from USA and the cost is big to send it back. What i can do to find that spare part and get my laptop fixed? Thanks.

Background: I bought my refurbished Lenovo Y500 laptop in June. It came with a 1TB HDD and a 16GB SSD for caching.

Current problem: The other day I noticed that my laptop had become unresponsive. The laptop has a pre-existing problem where it cannot be put to sleep or it will usually crash, so I just leave it on unless I know I won't be using it for a while. I had been out of the room for a few hours, and when I returned I turned the screen on and the laptop was mostly frozen. I was able to move the mouse, but everything else on the screen was frozen. According to the time displayed on the screen, it had been frozen for 3 hours. I forced a shutdown and restarted it. It took much longer to startup than usual, but otherwise seemed to be working. After a few minutes of web browsing though, my browser became unresponsive for about a minute or so. When the cursor stopped spinning, a message popped up from the Intel Rapid Storage tray icon saying that the SSD had been removed. After this, the laptop was working pretty much like normal again but a little less responsive.

When trying to restart it, the laptop screen turned off but all the power lights remained on and the fan kept running. I waited a while but the fan seemed to start running faster and the air blowing out seemed very hot so I forced it to shut down again. Restarting it again led to the exact same scenario: becomes unresponsive after some use, SSD disappears, and won't shutdown or restart properly.

The OK status is just based on SMART data. If the values stay within defined tresholds it will say everything's fine even if the drive was on fire. You're not the first with this problem. From what I see all those 16GB SSD used for cache die after 3-6 months of use. If it's under warranty have it replaced...

Hello, I recived my lenovo y500 laptop about 3 months ago. recently about 4 weeks ago my laptop took about 10 minutes to start up. I thought that this was unusual but the computer still worked so i ignored the problem when before it took my laptop 48 seconds when restarting and 32 seconds when turning on when previously shutted down. Now when i restarted my computer for a microsoft update for microsoft office it updated normally before shutting down. when it started up it took about an hour for the screen to turn on. But the screen started with a strangle resolutoion i think it was 1896x856. i went to change the screen resolution and that resolution was the highest resolution there was on the monitor. Also wndows 8 could not recognise the screen but the screen still worked.I then decided to restart the computer to see if the screen resolution would fix itself. I waited 1 and a half hours for the screen to turn on. nothing happened. i then decided to connect it to my hd tv via HDMI port it worked. everything was fine eccept the lenovo screen was not detected and so I''m right now using my tv as my monitor for the laptop y500.all of the computers components are working properly, i checked it myself and by the lenovo solution center program, except the lenovo laptop monitor and can not fix it. Can you please help me fix this problem?

Okay so, I got my Lenovo Ideapad Y500 a couple days ago. Liked it and all BUT when I had my mouse connected into the laptop and then turned off the touchpad, it would not turn back on. The only way I could get my touchpad to work again is by restarting the computer, which is pretty frustrating. I searched this: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/default.page?   for ANY drivers/software for the Y500 mousepad and there are none. Can anyone help me fix this problem before I get a refund from this potentially bad purchase? FN + F6 toggles the touchpad on and off and I have tried to turn it on and off, with and without the external mouse connected. Thanks for the help.

Hi guys,I have looked long and hard online, and I can not seem to solve this problem. I have a Lenovo y500 Ideapad series computer, bought it mainly for gaming. I have recently noticed that one of my grapic cards says error 43, and is not functioning, meaning no SLI for me. I GUESS it happened after windows 8.1 update, but honestly, not sure when it occured. What could be the cause of this? I have already seen this link : https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-and-U-series-Laptops/Y500-SLI-is-not-working-after-Windows-8-...But it doesn't solve the problem at all. When I click run as adminstrator, nothing really happens. A quick image of a black screen appears only to dissapear a nanosecond later. Is there not a simple patch or something like that? A hotfix? something that doesn't require hours of calling customer service etc? Thanks from an overall happy customer

Hi Lenovo users, I have bought Lenevo Y500 last year. Intially it was performing good. It came with preinstalled Windows XP SP2. Later I have installed Fedora 7.0 on top of Windows XP(XP in C:\ drive and Fedora in D:\ drive). I had a few problems with Fedora. I unistalled it and completly formatted the HDD(80GB) into C:\ with 20GB  and D: with 55 GB. I again installed Windows XP SP2 . It took 2 hours to install Windows XP SP2(CD provided by lenovo). I installed all the device drivers provided by Lenovo Y500. The problem is that now the system is working very very slow. If I play a music file or play a video (while parallely doing a small file transfer ex: 40 MB from one drive to another the system is playing the music file or video file very very slowly(I mean dead slow). Also for large applications also like opening Visual Studio etc it is taking ages to open. On monitoring the CPU usage and memory(512MB) the graph shows that CPU is 100% used. This was not the case earlier when I was using XP that came with lenovo. The system performance fell like anything. Also while opening any image files or folders, it is blinking twice and thrice. My Laptop Specification details: Lenovo Y500 (776139Q) Notebook PC FeaturesIntel Core Duo Processor T2250, 1.73 GHz533 Mhz, 2MB L2 CacheIntel 945 Express ChipsetIntel Graphics Media Accelerator GMA 950 graphics512 GB DDR2 (533 MHz), 2 DIMM slots (Max. 2-GB)80-GB Serial-ATA harddrive, 5200 rpmSuper M... Do I need to do a return due to the lenovo laptop? Would the BIOS blacklisting do this!

Hello: Since I upgraded to Windows 10 on my IdeaPad Y500 my wifi is intermittant and stops working on sleep.

The network icon in the lower right corner  of the desktop has a red x next to it indicating no network connection. My home wifi network is not listed in the Network Settings list even when the laptop's wifi card is connecting to the router.  The wifi loses connection intermittantly on sleep, it works again once I restart the machine but loses the connection when it goes back to sleep. The LAN connection has also stopped working intermmitantly as well as the sound card.

I have updated to the latest version of Windows 10 (including the kb3093266 update) pushed out in the last month by Microsoft.
I have checked and rechecked the device drivers for wifi and LAN network adapters. The drivers are up to date with the latest. The wifi adapter is an Intel Centrino Wireless N-2230.
There are no network connections listed in the "Network Settings" list including my own router and the many other routers in my apartment building. The LAN connection didn't show up either.
The LAN adapter also stopped working the last I checked.
The sound card stopped working as well but comes back intermittantly.

What should I do? This problem is really annoying. The wifi connection is lost constantly and only works on restart. This happened after the Windows 10 upgrade in July. It only worked fine with Windows 8 and the Windows 10 Inside... Read more

Also on plugging the headphones sound seems to be coming only from the left and not in the right . Its almost an identical issue to one posted a while back ... When I use headphones or external speakers sound comes in through through only the left side. I've tried a lot of the suggestions I found across this community but none have helped so far. Could someone please help me fix this issue?

Just a few days ago, the speakers (and subwoofer) of my lenovo y50 suddenly stopped working. I've already tried some fixes, including input options in the realtek audio manager. Sound coming trough the headphone jack still works though, but since the speaker malfunction it has an irritating white noise. Anyone who also has this problem or knows the fix?

Check in device manager whether there's any issue with your sound drivers - is there any exclamation mark?

Hi, I am using Lenovo G460 since 2 years and I am unable to hear from internal speakers, but I connected headphones or external speakers it's working fine. anybody can tell the problem

Answer:my lenovo g460 internal speakers are not working

hi arjunkanda,

Can you try Uninstalling and Reinstalling the Audio Driver,

Open Device Manager and look under sound and gaming controller for WIN7 and Audio input for WIN8/8.1
Look for something says Conexant, and uninstall it.
Place a check if you're prompted of "Delete driver software for this device"

Then install a audio driver from this download link of your system and install it.
      http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?DocID=HT072732

See if that works,
If not then, Im thinking a connection problem of the Speakers,

You can check your system's  Maintenance Manual to check on how to get access to the speaker cables connecting to the Mainboard on page (52).

Hope this helps
Cheers!

For several last days, I have a strange behavior of speakers and microphone in my t470p. For most of the time they are unavailable in both Linux or Windows OS. However, where I'm doing little push on screen backward (like adjusting screen little bit), both microphone and speaker start working and become available. After I stop adjusting screen (making push backward) device become unavailable again. I'm sure that it is some kind of hardware problem and it should be easy fixing (like some connector is not attached properly inside LCD panel), but according to maintenance manual, I do not see any wires related to speakers or sound card going inside LCD panel. Can anybody advise how to fix such behavior?

A week ago a bubble popped up on my desktop offering to clear space because i was running out of memory on my computer. I clicked it (shouldn't have) and it "cleared space" but now my computer won't play any sound. i have Dell speakers and they work fine because i can plug them into my ipod and play that. I already did the Control Panel-Sounds and Audio Devices-Audio tab but once I get to the audio tab this website tells me to click "Advanced" under "sound playback". However, I don't even have the option of clicking that button. it won't let me click it. Also, there is no Volume control icon on the bottom right corner of my screen (next to the clock). like there should be. I really need help

Answer:Speakers not working...has to do with windows actual speakers are fine

Hi I have a Lenovo W500 4062-5YG... O/S: Win 7 Pro My sound device is a Conexant 20561 SmartAudio HD. The problem is, that the internal speakers have stopped working all of a sudden... I think it is a hardware problem since when I hookup external speakers or headphones they produce sound... but I am no expert! I have done the following to try and fix it: Disable, then enable audio driversUinstall, then install audio driversSetting the internal speakers as the default speaker sourceRestoring the system to an earlier day (where I knew that the speakers had functioned)None of these actions have worked. I actually thought I could perform a hardware test on the speakers in the "Lenovo Solution Center"... but it doesn't seem like it:-( So... How can I know for sure whether it is a hardware or software problem? And more importantly - How can I get my internal speakers to work? Any help is appreciated. CheersPhilip

Answer:Internal speakers have stopped working (Lenovo W500 with Win 7 Pro)

Hello Philip,

As mentioned in your post, you have performed all the major troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue. I suggest you to update your BIOS also in order to resolve your issue. You can download and update the BIOS update utility from the below mentioned web link.
http://support.lenovo.com/en_SG/downloads/default.page?

Kindly click on Quick path and put your 7 Digit TYPE-Model number(40625YG) in the box and then click on the Find My Product. Please click on BIOS and then download the BIOS update utility according to your Operating System. It might resolve your issue. If it will also not work then it seem to be an issue with hardware. Kindly get in touch with the support centre they will assist you and try to resolve the issue.

Regards,
Harish

Hi!Lenovo TP T500, Win7Pro 32. There was a problem with the integrated speakers. Yesterday worked fine. Then, after a conversation on Skype through a wired headset from the integrated speakers sound stopped going. Through headphones the sound is fine. All tests are integrated speakers through the control panel are normal, no errors shown. But the sound of them is not. That is, I have created the absolute impression that the laptop "thinks" as if the headset is still activated. What will advise?

Make sure if you haven't done so already to press and hold (for a few seconds) the volume UP button on the top row of the keyboard.  It's usually pretty close to the blue ThinkVantage butoon.

This needs to be resolved.

I only just received my newly purchased y510p from NewEgg, and now see that I cannot upgrade to Windows 8.1 and keep my SLI, a feature which cost me an extra $200. NewEgg wants to charge a restocking fee if the laptop needs to be returned, though that might be negotiable NewEgg should not have to eat that loss either.

A new model laptop sold the week of Windows 8.1's release should absolutely have been tested and ready for Windows 8.1. There was time for a company as large as Lenovo to test in advance of this Windows release.

Per the nVidia representative, Lenovo's system does not update the VBIOS of an UltraBay video adapter. This needs to be fixed. This is a feature core to the laptop and an unacceptable defect.

I have an active Case # in with Lenovo support, with the Rep John helpful but unaware of this "zero day" issue. He stated that as of 5 am this morning that their support group requested help from Lenovo because they have been getting "Ultrabay calls" all day.

I hope to see an actual response from someone with Lenovo on this issue. This Windows 8.1 problem on the new line of Ideapads is too serious not to acknowledge.

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad Y500 Windows 8.1 and SLI

Hi guyz, first of all I have to say that the Lenovo Y500 ideapad with 2 graphic cards is a excellent product when you use Windows 7 - no problems with Driver - Nvidia panel recognize the 2 cards and also says that SLI is enabled. Now i have installed Windows 8.1 (Preview Version) and the driver listed on the Lenovo Support Driver side - Installation no problem - Windows recognize the cards, but after the needed restart there is one card with the yellow question mark... Cant start the card ... The Nvidia control panel also says that there is only one  card. I like Windows 8, i also like Windows 7 - could someone solve this problem? I also tried the Beta drivers from Nvidia but no solution at all - same error. Maybe some one can help

Hello. Sorry for my English.I recently installed Windows 10 on lenovo y500. 4 months everything worked well, but then I started to have problems with the video card. When I turned on the laptop, the screen started flashing, and then I saw a message about the failure of drivers. Then he stopped flashing and there were green pixels on the screen. I tried to reinstall the drivers, but nothing helped. Later, when I turned on the laptop, the screen turns green, and then completely turns off after a few seconds. I took it to the service center, and they said that it is necessary to install only Windows 8, because the BIOS and SLI does not work correctly with Windows 10. But these 4 months SLI has worked on Windows 10. What should I do? Is it worth it to stay on Windows 10, or roll back to 8?My lenovo y500 spec.i7-3630QM, 650m sli, 6Gb RAM, 1920x1080

Hello, I want to full-install Ubuntu on my system. I got Windows 8 pre-installed and want to deleteit, but I want to keep the recovery partitions etc. If I delete the whole partition (1TB) where Windows 8 is installed, could I install Windows 8 back again using the recovery partition?Or do you know a better way to just delete the OS on my laptop but can install the standardOS (Windows 8) again on my pc when I want, because I don't want to lose my Windows 8OEM license. Or is there an alternative like downloading a OEM recovery disk or something? Thanks in advance. - I. I've replaced the original hard drive of my Lenovo Y500 with an Samsung EVO about a year ago, and it worked great under Windows 7. However i decided to upgrade to Windows 10, and now the read/write speeds are abysmal.  This is an overview of my current setup: http://imgur.com/HnZwaLu I think the problem has to do with the AHCPI drivers, i cannot seem to install the ones listed on the driver page. When i start the program it flashes in the task bar and then closes again (https://gfycat.com/TinyMixedHectorsdolphin). Does anyone have any idea's on how to fix this?

Hallo, I bought and non SSD version of the Y500(Y500-00619-NL, 59381814) and i am planning to install a msata SSD on it. I don't want to monkey about with the already built in HDD. I want to keep the window installation that is currently installed on the HDD running. I also want to install a clean window 8 on the SSD. I want to be able to choose wich windows installation(HDD or SSD) i want to start while booting. Is this even possible? How can i achieve this? Subquestion: The bezel on top of my screen(where the webcam sits) is a bit loose, it's not sturdy but moves a small bit if one puts pressure on it. Is this common thing with the Y500 or is it just mine? Thanks!

Answer:Lenovo Y500 Windows 8 dualboot HDD and SSD

open your laptop. take out the hdd and connect then ssd then install windows by following the instructions you can find on this forum. Then re connect your hdd and change boot order depending on which os you want and i thought only my laptop had this problem lol. guess its a manufacturing fault as just a small area (1-2 inch maybe) is also a little loose just above the webcam

Hey there folks!

It seems I'm having issues with USB Audio. I have an ASUS P5N32-E SLI motherboard with up-to-date nVidia chipset. I am running Windows XP Pro 64-bit, but the issue also arose on the same system with XP Home 32-bit.

It came to light when I bought a new wireless Logitech G930 and it didn't work once installed. I went to Logitech but have not yet found a solution to what I initially thought was a Logitech product issue.

I was preparing to reformat my HDD and set up Windows XP Pro 64-bit, so I decided to do it promptly and see if that would help out the situation. I got XP up to date and attempted to use the G930 without its software. The sound was incredibly distorted and off-pitch with a lot of static. Sometimes it wouldn't work at all. I even tried to use my older wired USB Headset (Plantronics 770) which worked the last time I used it, about two months ago. It suffered the exact same distortion/static issue.

Here are some details of what I've tried:

- All of my other USB devices work perfectly fine on any USB port I plug them into. I currently have only a wireless mouse and keyboard in use.

- I've tried the headsets on all USB ports to no avail.

- I've tried both headsets on my girlfriend's laptop running Win7, both worked without issue.

- There are no yellow exclamation points in Device Manager.

- I seem to have WDMA_USB.INF and WDMA_USB.PNF in my windows/inf folder. (I had read some suggestions regarding the ... Read more

So my lenovo Y500 came preinstalled with Windows 8 Starter,I decided after some time that I didn't like it so I extracted the license using a program. The problem now is that I wrote the license down on a paper and this windows wasn't activated and installed Windows 7.However,the windows 8 license seems to be completely deleted as it doesn't show in any of the programs. So How to recover this license ?,also if i recovered it can it be downgraded to windows 7 ?,thanks in advance.

Answer:Lost windows 8 Starter key Lenovo Y500

HiThe new windows 8 pre-installed laptop's have their license key embedded in the bios. The installer of windows 8 automatically detects the same and doesn't ask for a key when installing. Note that this implies to the same version of windows 8 only.About the downgrade, i have heard that microsoft gives a one-time windows 7 key for installing windows 7 though i am not 100 percent sure. So you should call them.Regards

Hello All, I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit on my Lenovo Y500. I would like to encrypt the system drive. I *could* use TrueCrypt but Win 7 Ult already has BitLocker build in so I'm trying to use that. The problem is BitLocker reports that "This computer does not appear to have a TPM". Either BitLocker is not detecting a trusted platform module or the Y500 does not have a TPM. I don't know much about this but it seems that a TPM is an actual piece of hardware -- a chip on the mainboard or a separate circuit board. Am I right? I checked the BIOS and cannot find any mention of a TPM. I'm suspecting that the IdeaPad Y500 is simply not designed to support BitLocker. Is that correct? Maybe this community can help confirm my suspicion that BitLocker is properly supported by the Thinkpads (and other business level machines) but not the gaming/home systems like the Ideapads. If the above is true then my next question is; is there any way to get BitLocker working? I can tweak the local group policy to allow encryption without a TPM but then I must use a USB flash drive to unlock the system at boot (which sounds incontinent).

Answer:Lenovo Y500. Trying to get Windows 7 BitLocker to work.

Hi Darthpenguin, welcome to the forums,

simply put, you are correct. To the best of my knowledge none of the Idea systems are equipped with a TPM chip; they are considered as consumer systems where encryption will generally not be an issue. I can confirm that the majority of ThinkPads do have versions with the TPM chip on board.

Hello! I was just wondering if anyone on the forums had any experience with using Analog gaming headset on their Lenovo Y510P.. I am currently using the Turtle Beach X12's which are usb powered and will currently be upgrading to a new headset due to the inevitable soon to be death of my headset. The headset I will be replacing it with is the Razer Kraken Pros. Does anyone know if these analog headsets sound fairly clear or at least up to par with the X12's. If not, would a usb sound adapter be a good choice in order to improve the sound quality? Thanks so much for any replys/help.

Answer:Quick question about analog gaming headsets (Lenovo Y510P)

Unfortunately you can't fix sound that is already broke. The Kraken Pros have some of the worst sound quality I've heard from a gaming headset. If you want an analog headset with quality, comfort, and a solid mic, all without even close to breaking-the-bank price, get a Creative Fatal1ty Gaming Headset. I've had mine for something over 4 years and it still works, despite being $30 when I purchased it. Incredible value. Sounds far better than the Razers too.

I recently purchased a Samsung 840EVO 250G SSD hard driver and made it as my main system drive. I installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit on the SSD. However, after I installed Lenovo Energy Management Windows 7, it prompted me a message telling me to restart the PC. When I do so, the computer wouldn't able to boot again. A flash of a blue screen showed up after the Windows 7 logo done and the computer rebooted again; and it keep looping and looping. I am able to fix the blue screen by system restoring. However, the Lenovo Energy Management was still not installed. I'm just wondering, has anyone encountered this problem before, and what are the solutions of fixing this problem. Thank you.

Hello, Not long ago I purchased a Lenovo Y500, and used for about three months without much to worry. One day my screen went completely black (like with no signal at all) first though something was broken, but for good luck trying things out connected an external display using the HDMI output and noticed my computer was completely functional, just not outputing info the her screen. Used the One Key Recovery and screen was usable again. That happened a couple more times. Last of those times, got a friend to install from scratch and using a copy of W8.1 we installed everything without a problem, but the computer keeps sending signal to external screens (with both vga and hdmi) cables but her screen is still black. Could anyone please provide some pointers as to what should I do to get the laptop screen working again, or should I take it to a workshop and get the screen replaced. Just any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, and please forgive my English (not native) and the long message, --Victor

I have recently downloaded Windows 8.1 and now my PC does not detect my integrated webcam on my Ideapad y500 laptop. In device manager their is no imaging device choice in the drop down list. It is compeltely missing, Also, I have attempted to download the most recent windows 8.1 driver for camera and when the installation is nearly complete it says something suhc as appropriate driver is not available.  It may just be that Lenovo and Microsoft have yet made the integrated webcam compatiable with windows 8.1. But if their is any other ways around getting my integrated webcam to work I would love to hear suggestions. Any help regarding this predicament is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Good morning, I've had this issue for a while now so I've reverted back to the original Windows 8. Although I would really like to use the new features in 8.1, the fan noise is keeping me from it. Whenever I install / upgrade to Windows 8.1, my left and right fans start spinning uncontrollably for no reason. It's nearly as if a jet plane is taking off next to me. This also happens when I'm using different sorts of battery schemes, or when I'm using the battery instead of the adapter. Could somebody please tell me how to fix this? Would be greatly appreciated. Kind regards, LiquoriceTwist
