Question: Upgrading / adding a graphics card Lenovo ideapad z500

Hi,I have a Lenovo ideapad z500 intel i5-3230m 2.6ghz, 8gb ram with Intel HD graphics card 4000.I was wondering if I could add a better graphics card to this laptop? I noticed that other people have this exact same laptop with both the built in Intel graphics card and a nvidia graphics card too. Is it possible to add a nvidia graphics card to my laptop??Thanks!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Is it possible to add a nvidia graphics card to my laptop??Thanks! The nvidia graphics card you mentioned is soled to the mother board, it is not something that can be "removable" easily (by taking out screws and pull it out) like a cpu chip or a ram... In addition, they have to put more heat sink, fans and power controllers (or whatever you call it) to support the card because now the machine need much more power and will produce much more heat.So my suggestion is to save $$, sell the old one and buy the new laptop with good VGA or you can buy a new "mother board" of same model as your current one (they sell it on ebay, if you are lucky you may find the one with VGA on it) then pull out your cpu, ram, hdd, cables ..etc from old one then transfer them to new one, it will require a deep understanding about laptop hardware and electrical things and such.

When I was playing Mass Effect 2 the game would suddenly freeze but the sound would keep going, though it would sound like a horn being blown down industrial fans and every so often would revert back to normal. If I had earphones in it would keep swiching to speakers instead. If I didn't Ctrl+Alt+Delete to task manager the laptop would sometimes blue screen or if I didn't end the task it could also blue screen. I thought the laptop needed to be refreshed so I did so, reinstalled all drivers and the game but it was still happening. I even found that when I went onto the nvidia control panel and looked at the spinning preview image, after a few seconds the system would freeze until getting the message about the driver not responding and successfully recovering. I've tried 3 drivers (The original that shipped with the laptop, the latest lenovo released driver and nvidia's latest driver) but they all had the same problem. For now I have just completely removed the nvidia drivers and haven't had any more problems. I would like to get the graphics card working again and was hoping someone might know a soloution. The Graphics Card is the Nvidia GeForce GT 740M. The most common blue screen I was getting when I wasn't gaming was the driver_power_state_failiure one and when I was I think it was the dpc_watchdog_violation one.

Just on the edge of buying a G560,  but in the shops I can only find the i5 450 G560 with intel HD graphics... poopI know there are different versions of this lappy with an ATI / Nvidia card.. So, the questions: 1. Is there an XMX / graphics port inside the lappy - is it the same as the model up, just without a card stuffed in it?2. Will it support any graphics board that fits in the slot - like a regular PC?3. Where the heck can I find lappy graphics cards online?  So far Ive only found them on ebay ;E Any help would be appreciated, TaTim

Answer:Lenovo G560 - adding a different graphics card, possible?

uhm, been checking the boards and it doesnt look too great for the G560 ... other lappys like the g550 and the t100 are impossible to switch out the card...so Im gonna ask anyone who has a G560 to have a look inside and check if its possible to switch out the graphics board somehow, or if theres a slot for if you dont have an ati/ geforce lappy

Hello, I have a ?Y510P Leonovo Ideapad? and found out, that the mainboard contains an empty port-connector labeled with ?SSD?. A picture of this connector is in the attached image. I am planning to upgrade the Laptop with an SSD-card to improve system speed. Within this context I have a couple of questions, regarding the specifications of this port and suitable SSD-cards: Does this port both accept SATA as well as PCIe SSD-cards?Is there a limitation on the maximum memory-size of the installed SSD-card? Can I install a 256GB SSD-card? (For example ?Transcend MTS400 256GB SSD?) ?Can I partition the SSD-card in a way to fully install Windows 10 on it, making it the boot partition. The SSD-card should then be visible as a standard drive C:\ under Windows. Can I also install a second operating system (Linux) onto a second partition on the SSD-card, making it a dual boot system?I would be very happy, if anyone could help me with these questions, so that I can upgrade the laptop with the appropriate SSD-card and configuration. Thanks in advance,electron8000

Hey there, can I replace my ideapad's graphics card? It only got Geforce 920MX and I want to change it to a better one. and also, I've experienced a bluescreen of death on this laptop. I only had this for around 4 months, the error below has nvlddmkm.sys something. Can I get a fix for this one? I'm currently trying the solution microsoft gave to a user, it's by removing the driver and reinstalling a new one from nvidia. Are there any other solutions?

Hello there! I was wondering if it is possible to install, lets say a 450 - 500 W psu and upgrade the graphics card to something like a amd r7 260x or Nvidia gtx 750 ti in a lenovo h50-50. I think it said in the manual to only use parts from Lenovo, can this damage my computer or something? Sorry if something's wrong, i'm new on the forum

Hi Friends,     I got new Lenovo T430s with Intel HD Graphics 4000 but now I like to upgrade it to NVIDIA® NVS 5200M 1GB VRAM. Is it possible? there is a port for this card in my laptop? Thnaks and Regards

Answer:Upgrading Graphics Card Lenovo T430s

You can't upgrade the graphics card, it is soldered on the motherboard. The only solution for a better graphics card is using an eGPU. Or you can return your laptop and buy the one with the discrete graphics (nVidia nvs 5200m).

Answer:Lenovo g500 upgrading graphics card

hi nickkinn,

Thanks for Posting!

According to this REquirements
   http://www.adobe.com/uk/products/premiere-elements/tech-specs.html

Your system should support it
as per main requirements

PROC   supports SSE4x
Audio     DX11 AUDIO
Graphics and RAM DX11 and supports the resolution Required 6GB of RAM is more than the minimum requirements

DAC Internal
This is the Convertion of your systems DIGITAL and Analog signals,
Since you PC support INTEL Processor normally it has the DAC internal to it and reason why your system has two different output,  an HDMI which is Digital and VGA which is analog

Hope this helps
Cheers!

Ok, so I just received my new Lenovo Ideapad Z560 in the mail about a week ago. I have been enjoying it up until I realized it seemed to have an issue with some graphics. Every time I watch this youtube video that works normally for everyone else, instead of seeing normal video images like everyone else, I see things like these images:http://img828.imageshack.us/img828/139/youtubeproblem.png It does it on other youtube videos as well. Anyways, it does this not only for this youtube video but also did it three times (it turned green, blocky, and pixelated) while watching Teen Mom 2 on MTV.com. So I'm thinking it's a graphics card issue...or is there anything anyone can suggest to fix it? I already went to device manager and tried updating the drivers. It said they were all updated. Btw, I have Windows 7 Premium, 64 bit. Intel Core i5 2.53 GHz, 4 GB RAM, and Intel HD Graphics. Thank you!

So I've been trying to figure it out, but this is my first laptop, I've done some looking around on the forums and found some unrelated issues regarding the dual graphics cards (Most people not realizing they had the option for one or the other) and this is not that.My issue is I do indeed have both graphics cards, but only one seems to work until I plug in the battery charger. I'm a gamer, and that is why I bought this laptop, I work out of town a lot and needed something short of lugging around my desktop everywhere I went. So when I found this gem, I was super excited, and it works well. Except for the fact I have to keep the laptop plugged in at all times in order to run the second video card, I've looked under slews of options within the control panel and power saving features but nothing seems to stand out to me to indicate there is any way to play with the settings for this particular problem. Anyone have any suggestions?

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad Y500 Graphics Card issues.

hi Jin_Trister,

Welcome to the Forums.

Your issue might be similar to this thread.

In running SLI, the unit requires a 170w power, otherwise it will only use 1 GPU as stated in this article. Also, the Ideapad Y500 is powered by a Lithium Ion 6-cell, 72Wh battery. If you're on battery power, running a dual GT 650m alone consumes a total of 90W and the unit still needs to power up the cpu, hdd, lcd, etc. so the system automatically disables SLI and underclock the GPU (and possibly the CPU) to give way to other PC components

A few days ago I purchased a 2nd hand Ideapad Z500 (build date is 2013 and it's the i5 model) and I have unfortunately came across a problem, when i recieved the laptop i had to reset back to factory settings once reset and i got into windows and after installing all the drivers that needed installing i noticed in device manager there was no nividia graphics card only the intel hd 4000.I have downloaded the Intel Graphic drivers from Lenovo's support website which installed ok. However, if I try to install the NVidia driver it says "Graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware" I tried the newest driver and some old drivers and also the driver from Lenovo website but I couldn't install it. As i said above there is nothing about NVidia in the Device Manager. It only shows Intel graphic card. i installed AIDA64 and GPU-Z and again they only show only Intel, they cannot see NVidia either. So after much reading on the this support forum I updated the bios to the newest version, v1.21 but nothing changed, also from what i can make out from the forum reading i have done there should be a setting in the BIOS called "Graphic Setting" which needs to be set to "Switchable" well that option is not there so i don't know if the problem is the bios or the motherboard. So i am not sure if this is a Hardware problem or software anyway i am going to try another recovery and see if that sorts it. So any help or advice would be most appreciated.  My Lenovo... Read more

Answer:Does the Lenovo IdeaPad G510 Laptop come with the dedicated graphics card?

hi Damgit,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Depending on the model no. (59-xxxxxx), there are Ideapad G510 laptops that are equipped with an Integrated Intel HD 4600 and there are models with the Radeon HD 8750M (switchable graphics). These cards are soldered to the motherboard so the machine either have IGP or a Discrete (switchable) GPU

Sample models:
IdeaPad G510 - 59406131 (Integrated HD 4600)
IdeaPad G510 - 59401564 (Radeon HD 8750M switchable graphics)

I never noticed this before sending the laptop off to Lenovo for battery repair, but ever since my laptop is not showing the Nvidia G840 graphics card that should be installed in my laptop. When I say it's not hsowing, I mean it is not listed in the device manager under display adaptors. I have checked the BIOS but it was set to "discrete" and not "UMA-only", so it should be using the G840 if it is in there. Is there any chance the graphics card may have been unintentionally disconnected whilst replacing the battery connector?

Answer:Upgrading graphics card on a Lenovo 3000 N500 laptop

Laptop graphics cards tend to be soldered on. Some have replaceable units which utilize a manufacturer proprietary port. Others have what's called a MXM slot which are somewhat interchangeable. However, considering your laptop was manufactured with integrated graphics, it is highly unlikely that you will be to change/upgrade to a better graphics card. I do believe that there will be a better solution in the future. Read about MXM 3.0 standard. It's quite promising.

Product key is stored in BIOS, so there is no need to use any app to read it.Download a tool to create bootable media from Microsoft website and install Windows 8.1 using it:https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8 Moreover at first, you may try to restore your Windows 10 to factory state (do a backup of all important data first). Dear Lenovo community, I would like to change the HDD of my Lenovo z500 with a SSD. Moreover, since I have problem with the OS (win 8.1) I intend to format the PC and reinstall it. My question is: after the substitution of the HDD and the install of the new OS will I still be able to use the hotkeys (pc brightness, volume etc.) of my keyboard or have I to install some additional software or set them in the BIOS? Moreover, have I to install lenovo energy management (to control the battery) and the intel hd graphics drivers? thanks for the attention

Answer:lenovo ideapad z500 hotkey

Hi mardix1982 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Would you still be able to boot to Windows on the original image ?
You may create a recovery image first that can be useful on the SSD change or even clone it after a factory restore (One Key recovery page 23) using the SSD software or other tools.

Since there be no changes on the BIOS , hotkey features under configuration setting should stay enabled.
All other drivers and power management tool such as Lenovo Energy Manager are available from the support site.

You may also order purchasable Windows installer with drivers by calling technical support .

I've recently started experiencing issues with my Ideapad Z500. The warranty has expried, and so i cannot send it off to get repaired. I've replaced the laptop charger, with multiple different ones, all working, and yet it will still not charge. It will not turn on when plugged into the mains. I've attempted to remove the battery, and power through the mains, and yet it will still not power on. I've replaced the internal power jack (one which connects to the motherboard), and yet it will still not charge. There is no visible signs on the motherboard as to scorch marks where it could of shorted out.  From my point of view, everything is as it should be, but the laptop will just not power on at all. Any ideas on what can be done to get this working again?

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Sorry to hear about the charging problem.  From what you have described and tried about the only thing left is to replace the motherboard.  The motherboard may have damage that isn't visible and without the proper testing equipment it would be difficult to locate.

HI! I have just purchased an Ideapad Z500 3rd Gen i5 laptop around 10 days back and am seriously fed up with the performance. From the very first day, the machine is working slow, the USB ports are giving me problems right since day 1. On top of it, yesterday, when I tried to eject a pen drive, there is a small part which has come out of the laptop alongwith the Pen Drive. I am sure, it has something to do with the USB port. Furthermore, today the keyboard panel has started to pop up slightly. Also, the machine works pretty slow, as compared to the excellent configuration which I had chosen. Someone please help! I need to get this laptop replaced immediately. I wonder if it was my mistake to choose lenovo over other brands. Please please help. The Serial No. of the machine is xxxxxxxxxxx and the model no. is 20202. Expecting a quick response from the Customer care team. Regards, Sunil Rijhwani Cell:xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi Aidso,

Welcome to Lenovo forums.

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with the system not booting in your Lenovo Z500 laptop.

Try to boot the system to safe mode and select system restore to the latest date and check for the issue.

If still the issue persist, then in safe mode uninstall the display driver in device manager and restart the machine and check for the issue.

Check if the system is overheating while playing games or while using any applications.

Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!

I have an ideapad z500 which I'm happy for, but it annoys me that when 'm at my college I can't properly connect to the wi-fi the school has. When I connect, I'm on for usually about half an hour, but then I get the "limited connection" yellow triangle and I have to deactivate the networkcard before I can get a normal connectionOther times I simply just can't connect, it tries but it fails. When it does, I have to reboot the computer before it succeeds, and that's no good when you are working on a project. At home i have no problems, it works nicely. Also, if there are anybody who knows how to enable the WiDi on the z500, it would be greatly appreciated. I hope there are some of you tech savvy's who can help me out.  PS: My PC is running Win 8 with the Intel Centrino n2230, Intel 3rd. gen i7 (3632qm)

http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-Z-and-P-series/Ideapad-z500-brightness-can-t-increase/td-p....

The solution was to:1. Clean install Windows 72. After installing Windows, install the Intel Chipset Driver and reboot.3. Install Lenovo Energy Management and reboot.
4. Install Intel Video Drive for Windows 7 64bit and reboot.
5. Pressing Fn+ F11/F12 to toggle the brightness should now work.

Sometimes, because the high-temperatures, it automatically switches down, because temperatures, before seeing the lenovo logo. With lenovo diagnosis software I have checked all the hardware, and the tools says all hardware is ok. My os is Windows 10. Could you please, somebody help me to solve this problem? I'm afraid the heat of the start could harm my computer. Why this boot is taking so long before logo? Thank you in advance, ip

Will I have any problems installing it in the primary HDD slot? Answer: Page 71 of the Hardware maintenance manual states 9.5 mm hdd/sdd can be used. If you have the 7.0mm drive it can also be accomodated. medo994 wrote: ...And is there any chance I can fit a 12,5mm HDD either in the primary HDD slot or in the HDD caddy? Answer: For the primary hdd slot, the hdd/ssd mounting cage is designed for 9.5mm, thus a 7.0mm or 9.5mm hdd/ssd will fit. However, a 12.5 mm will not fit. For the caddy, you will have to consult the caddy specs if it will accomodate a 12.5mm hdd. Also you may have to check the dimension of the caddy against the ODD to see if it will fit in the ODD slot.

Hello,

Since installing the Windows 10 upgrade, my lenvono ideapad z500,the system does not recognize the up or down depending on the brightness of the screenalways remains fixed at 100% of maximum screen brightness, then perform uninstalling the software display driver which is intel hd 4000 graphics adapter changing it by microsoft basic screen and if this basic controller allows adjustment of the maximum intensity between 100 % and 0 % minimum adjustment screen brightness. But if I go back and update the driver for the Intel HD Graphics 4000, returns and function brightness adjustment is disabled, to stay set to the maximum brightness setting the screen.
Being all for now, I await a reply.Yours sincerely.Paola

I have tried the hard reset of pressing the button every 1 second 10 times and then holding the power button for 30 seconds.I have also replaced the charging cable inside the laptop and also used a spare charger.  Disconnecting the battery does not resolve the issue eitherWhen plugging in the charger, the battery light does not light up as well.Is there any solution to this? Answer:Lenovo ideaPad z500 wi-fi connectivity issue

hi zither,

If you have the Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 2230 (wifi/bluetooth combo adapter), can you try to:

1. update your wireless driver below:

Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software and Drivers for Windows 8* (install this first)
Intel® PROSet/Wireless Bluetooth Software for Windows 8*

After updating the drivers, check if the wifi is now stable.

2. If same problem, press Winkey+R > type ncpa.cpl, On the list of connections, look for bluetooth and do a right click > disable and observe the wifi connection.

Let me know your findings,

Hello Guys, recently bought Lenovo IdeaPad Z500.Although I am not a big fan of Windows 8, but I install it and now I use it.Everything is Ok. I noticed only one problem and it is with WiFi.As I start to download a film from torrent it won't download at the maximum speed my connection allows. I've tried to download the same movie with my other laptop and everything is OK. The difference is in the range of 800 - 1000 Kb/sec.I do not know whether this is a manufacturing defect or just something with WiFi card and/or driver's.Please help me.  Greetings.

Hello.I recently bought an IdeaPad Z500 which features a Nvidia GT 740M 2GB video card.Even if the card is 64 bit the results I'm getting with it on 1366x768 resolution are quite poor compared with others with the same video card. The score I get in Windows 7 64bit WEI is only 4.8 on Graphics (compared with 5.9 with a GT 420M built 3 years ago)In the Nvidia control panel settings is the GT 740M card set as default card for applications. The driver is the latest for both Nvidia (332.21) and Intel HD4000 (8.15.10.2712).Any ideas on what could be the problem ? http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a176/Bupitz/PerformanceGt740M_zpsef439dad.jpghttp://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a176/Bupitz/GT740MLenovoZ500_zpsae33c5b9.jpghttp://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a176/Bupitz/NvidiaSettings_zps5e68ac7c.jpg Regards,  Bupitz

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Z500 poor video performance

hi Bupitz,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

As you have both Intel and Nvidia GPU, the system utilizies the Nvidia Optimus Technology to switch between Intel and Nvidia GPU. The Graphics score of 4.8 on the screenshot is most likely due to the Intel GPU that the system is utilizing and the 3D Business and Gaming Graphics score of 6.7 is due to the Nvidia GPU kicking in.

From the above results, is the unit with a GT 420M GPU that's getting a 5.9 score on WEI running on Nvidia Optimus too?

Other things that you can try to maximize the use of the Nvidia GPU:
1. Set the power settings to high performance and ensure PCIe Link State Power Management is OFF.
2. Configure Nvidia Control Panel's "Power management mode" from Adaptive to Maximum Performance
   - see guide here
3. Follow this guide on how to add an app to use with the Nvidia Optimus Technology and observe

As an alternative to Windows Experience Index, consider running Passmark's Performance Test on the Ideapad Z500 and run a 2D/3D Graphics benchmark then compare the results to unit running a GT420M GPU.

What is its name or is it a generic one for all of the screws to get to the RAM BAYS? I am unsure as to what one i need. Thanks so much.

Answer:Lenovo ideapad z500 hard drive problem?

Sure looks like the hard drive is failing, and needs to be replaced.     If it is under warranty, I would have it fixed under warranty.     If not, Lenovo support should be able to send you recovery media to reinstall Windows (WIndows 8?), and I believe on that model the Windows Product ID is stored in the BIOS, so the Windows product ID key will be applied automatically when you reinstall. Good Luck  http://www.lenovo.com/contact/uk/en/  Lenovo Support - United Kingdom0333-777-3991 (National Rate)9:00 - 18:00 Monday - Friday

Hello everyone, I was thinking in replacing my Intel Core i5 processor with the i7 3632QM. (I looked up into the online  z500 Hardware maintenance manual and that model was included), So I'm posting here in order to know if somebody made the same change and If it was worthy. I searched for the component and the only reliable online shop was this one > http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Intel-Core-i7-3632QM-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3-20-GHz-rPGA-... But I don't know If it will work 100% sure, or if there is any guarantee it will be worthy.  (And no, I don't want to change laptop). Thank you for your help.

Dear All,I installed Linux mint in my Lenova Ideapad z500 (windows 8 preinstalled without any dvd). Linux mint asked me to create a partition on the hard drive where windows 8 is also installed. I did. Linux mint worked fine but I could not boot my Windows 8! Then I used few boot utilities and I was successful to start Windows 8. While I was in windows I deleted the linux mint partition. But now when I try to boot windows 8, the boot process begins and I get an error message that something went wrong and the boot process must restart...and the loop repeats again and again! Lenovo has a one key recovery...I tried it but it does not work! I used Ubuntu live CD and made a picture (attached) of my different partitions of my hard drive. I marked the two partitions in red which were together before installing linux mint. My questions is can I merge this two partitions? Will it solve the problem? I will appreciate any suggestions very much.ThanksShariful

Looking for a fix to this screen flickering issue on my Lenovo Ideapad Z500 Touch Screen Notebook. I took it to the Service Center and the technicians there changed the LCD cable that connects the screen with the motherboard. Still, The problem persists. The engineers over there do not seem to have a clue whether this problem is Hardware or Software and I don't wish to unnecessary get my machine disassembled again. This flicker does not happen continuously though. My notebook works fine if i keep it unmoved on the desk. But the moment i try to adjust the lid or move my notebook around, the flickering starts. To stop it, I simply put my machine on sleep mode or close the lid for 5 odd minutes. Upon wake up, The Screen again appears to work fine minus any flicker. Would appreciate any help in this regard. I have also captured a Video of the problem. Please Refer: http://youtu.be/kp12dYt6OWE

I am having the same problem.  The screen, it seems to be the touch screen like someone is touching it, Also, magnifies in and out.  If I move the laptop, or the screen that can cause it to start.  Or it just starts by its self, if I leave it on, when I come back it flickering.  I have to close it down and start all over again.I took it to a shop, they tried a few things but couldn't fix it, some suggestions: they thought it might be something to do with the graphics?? Maybe!   If anybody has this problem and sloved it, be really good to hear from you.

I recently bought a new Lenovo Ideapad Z500. Then I have encountered this kind of problem: I feel an electric buzzing sensation when using the touchpad cursor and any part nearby the keyboard. In other words, my computer is shocking me electrically. It hurts a lot and freaks me out.

Answer:Electric shocks from my laptop Lenovo Ideapad Z500

You have an electrical grounding issue with your computer.  Unless you did something like broke off the ground connector (the longer round piece on US plugs) or are using an adapter to get around not using the ground plug then you have a short circuit within your computer.  In either case you need to shutdown the computer and unplug it until the electrical problem is fixed.  It can change at any time from an "unpleasant buzzing" to you being electrocuted and as a side note your computer fried. Please get it fixed ASAP!

Since I installed windows 8.1 I have been experiencing issues while shutting down. It looks like windows is shutting down correctly, then the screen goes black and it hangs for like 10-15 minutes with the fan still spinning and the leds still on. After a while the system restarts, even when I clicked shutdown. This happens for shutdown, restart and when it goes to sleep. The only way to shut down the system right now is to hold the power button and kill the power. Windows does not give any errors in the logs. I tried updating all drivers, disabling fast boot in the power options and tried changing several power options. Nothing changed.Could someone please help me out?

I bought a Lenovo Ideapad Z500 on 10th of September. On October 5th, after about 3 hrs of operation I noticed that a hole appeared just under the LCD, on the left side of "Lenovo" mark. The plastic hot melted due to a very hot electronic component inside the case. I phoned Lenovo Romania, talk with a nice guy who asked me for model number, serial number and some photos. I sent all the informations on October 7th. After 1 week, the problem still on digging at Lenovo Romania. I also ask for a replacement from the vendor, the online store www.cel.ro but still no answer! Well, I am using this laptop for my business, I had some specific software and I really need the computer for my work. I cannot wait weeks or months for a "solutions" from some busy clerk... In my opinion, this kind of damage demands a quick replacement for my melted laptop (still very high temperature on that area!) and any serious reprezentative will immediatly try to solve this kind of matter. Since 386 I own various models of Thinkpads. Some from IBM, some from Lenovo (X61 Tablet, X61) and I was amazed by the durability and the ease of use and I purchase this IdeaPad based on my previous experience but, sincerely, if the service is so bad I will rethink my option and become a negative advertiser for this brand. Seems like the "waranty" is an empty word without any responsability from the Lenovo! I explore the option to "hunt" down Lenovo demanding some sort of satisfaction for disregarding a customer, at no c... Read more

Answer:Lenovo ideapad Z500 Touch backlit problem

Hi utkutrk ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You can try testing individual key specially FN and spacebar if it is working.

Turn off the machine and disconnect the ac charger and battery if you have the tools.
Press down the power button for 12 seconds to drain flea power.
Place back the battery and connect the ac charger.
Restart to check if backit keyboard works ( test further with FN + spacebar pressing 2-4 times).

Update us how it goes.
