z580 limited connectivity wireless broadcom adapter

Question: z580 limited connectivity wireless broadcom adapter

I've been having issues with my wireless connection for the last few months. It will sometimes work fine for a few hours and then suddenly go to limited connectivity and I would lose all internet connection. It says it is still connected but if I was to turn the router off it doesn't notice. Also when I disconnect and try to reconnect it fails to do so. When troubleshooting the issue the laptop will try and restart the adapter which then causes the entire computer to freeze and require a restart. Upon restarting the issue is sometimes fixed and sometimes not.I have tried updating drivers and going back to old ones but this doesn't seem to make much of a difference. The network adapter I have is a Broadcom with a model number of BCM94313HMGB. When looking for drivers on the lenovo website they appear to be aimed at different manafacturers and not broadcom. I don't know if this could be an issue? I've also tried changing the rate and power management settings, neither of which help. Its getting to the stage where I can barely use the laptop and I'm considering either buying an external wifi adapter which would be awkward to use and carry around, or buying a new wireless card of another brand. Any ideas?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm having a really annoying problem which is making my laptop almost unusable and a hassle to use. After a while of my laptop being on, my wireless network adapter will suddenly get "limited connectivity", and won't connect to the internet.

Disabling and enabling the adapter will cause my computer to freeze, requiring a restart. The same with troubleshooting. The only thing which fixes this is a fresh reboot, however it always occurs again within the hour.

Sometimes the entire adapter will randomly just disable itself, and the computer will completely freeze, meaning I have to press the power on/off. Sometimes the adapter will just disappear from Device Manager. Searching for "plug and play" devices will cause it to freeze.

Apart from having to reboot, what also seems to work is disabling the wifi from PC Settings, putting the computer to sleep, then awaking it and turning wifi back on. I've had to do that 6 times whilst typing this post.

I've tried flushing my dns, registering it, renewing and releasing. Assigning a static DNS address. All those things. Though I may have done them wrong.

Try reseating the wireless adapter

If the adapter is easily accessible, usually through a cover on the bottom of the laptop.
Remove and reinsert it carefully and firmly to make sure it is not loose.
Then remove and carefully and firmly replace it several times to cure any possible looseness or corrosion.
At the same time check to make sure the antenna leads are securely attached.
Note: This is not taking the machine apart. We do not recommend removing the keyboard when that is necessary to find the wireless.

Greetings All! I inherited an old but decent Lenovo 3000 N100 laptop. Everything appears to work well except for the Wireless/wifi connection.  According to the device manager properties, the laptop has a Broadcom 802.11abg wireless card.  I installed the latest and greatest drivers for it, from here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS001187 Unfortunately, I just have not been able to connect to my Asus 56 wifi router, which works will all of the many wireless devices at home. I use WPA2_PSK protocol with Windows native wireless support. I tried to install the latest and greatest Thinkvantage Access connections for xp meant for this laptop but it gives a "Access Connections is not supported on this platform".  http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=migr-4zlnjb I was able to turn off encryption on the router and laptop and everything seemed to work just fine. As soon as I turn on encryption on both ends, I get this cryptic message (laptop is trying to get an IP from router DHCP) and have'nt a clue of what is going on (signal strength seems excellent): Wireless Network ConnectionThis connection has limited or no connectivity. You might not be able to access the Internet or some network resources. For more information, click this message. I have upgraded to Windows XP SP3. Someone said it could be the SP3 firewall. At this point, I am not sure what else to try.  If someo... Read more

Answer:Wireless on Broadcom wifi for 3000 N100 shows "Limited or no connectivity"

hi anonymouse99,

Can you try to:

1. Disable QoS - Wireless MultiMedia (WMM) on your wireless router
2. If your Asus 56 wifi router is a Dual-Band router, can you try to broadcast only in 2.4Ghz.
3. If you're using WPA2-PSK, do you have an option for TKIP or AES or both and switching to that mode?
4. Have you tried WPA-PSK TKIP or AES?
5. Configure your Wireless Device by opening Device Manager > Network Adapters > Right click on your wifi adapter > and under Advanced Tab, try to set 802.11n mode to Auto, WMM to Disabled, Mixed Cell Support to Disabled (check this article)

Hey,
Last night I uninstalled ad-aware and then I lost my internet connection. It keeps on saying: "limited access". I found a driver with a yellow exclamation mark in network adapters and I accidentally uninstalled it and made everthing worse-_- I don't even remember its name and when I scan for hardware changes, it doesn't appear.
Btw, there isn't any restore points on my laptop.

If you have an HP desktop running on windows vista that has a wireless adapter that is giving you limited connectivity, or local signal only, then I have the solution for you. Simply restore your computer to a time before you updated it to Service Package 2. You can also restore it to the way it came. Either way you have to make sure you do not update it to Service Package 2 or you will get the error message again. I am not a computer know-it-all but I simply wrote this so that people do not have to go through the same frustration that I did to fix this problem. Thank you for reading this and good luck.

Answer:HP desktop running on windows vista wireless adapter limited connectivity solution

Telling Windows Vista users to revert from SP2 back to SP1 is very bad advice.

http://blogs.technet.com/b/smallbus...pcoming-end-of-support-windows-vista-sp1.aspx

If you're having problems with a wireless adapter, there are ways to deal with it.

Since your computer is a desktop, I have to assume that you installed a wireless add-on card or are using a USB wireless adapter.

I have a Lenovo Z580 (i3-2370M) with an Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 2200 wireless adapter running on Windows 10. I have been having an obnoxious problem where WiFi becomes unresponsive when the laptop is moved, the screen is bumped, or a some combination of motion. There is no way to fix this problem without doing a hard reboot. Disabling and enabling the adapter does not work. I have tried this from the command line as well. If I attempt to shut down, the screen goes black, but the shutdown never completes and a hard shutdown is needed. I understand that this problem occurs when the adapter wires are jostled. I have taped them down more but the problem persists. While curing the problem outright would be nice (new hardware), I would like to have a way to reset the wireless adapter and necessary services in order to restore the wifi connection without a reboot. The problem seems to be that a hang occurs and the process refuses to shut down and is stuck waiting for some sort of reply. This problem was also present on Windows 7. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I would like to express my dissatisfaction at how poor the build in WLAN card is on my Z580. I am sitting here typing this using my laptop on a G rated old USB plug in WIFI adaptor receiving full signal with my built in WIFI currently disabled as its the only way I can get a signal, yet sitting next to this laptop is my 3 year old low spec netbook which has full signal to the same router! For a fairly high spec laptop to have such a poorly performing Wireless card is beyond belief. If you search this very support forum there are numerous reports of how poor the broadcom WLAN adaptor is. This brings me to a few questions: Why is the bios whitelisted to only allow Lenovo FRU WIFI cards to work? I am more that capable of installing a WIFI card myself but you make this impossible by not even allowing customers to purchase replacement WIFI cardsWas there a faulty batch of wireless cards installed on these laptops? Will someone send me a replacement FRU WIFI card?I have done all the checks, uninstalled the drivers, reinstalled the drivers, checked the router itself etc. so please don't ask me to do the basics, I work for one of the largest ISP's in Britain and have access to the latest N rated 300 Mbps routers for testing purposes. I know someone is going to come on to this and advise me I need to call technical support, but why should I waste time out of my day on a premium rate number to call them for them to take me through the checks I have already done,... Hey,
I have two problems so i will explain the scenario then number out the issue. I had a new hard drive installed, when i booted the laptop, it worked well. The wifi in my area is very low so I was told I can use a wireless adpter to "boost" the signal strength received. I was given a Encore ENUWI-N3 Wireless Adapter to use. I installed the utility program from the official website and the computer still did not recognise the device, so I deleted the program. I then lost connection to the internet, and at the time i thought the wifi can dropped (i later realised that was not the case since my phone's wifi was still connected). I then reinstalled the software ( the executible file was saved on the harddrive), and it give me the same message that there are no drivers for the adapter.

I shifted my attention to my failed internet connection, after troubleshooting it give me a error 28 message stating that there were no drivers installed for the Broadcom wireless adapter that is internally installed. I tried a system restore to before i tried installing the Encore adapter, and still nothing, the system continued to give me the same message and it registered in the "device manager" as unknown device named "ethernet controller" with a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark. I have been able to borrow a laptop and download the LAN adapter fron the ACER support website, and although it had no "set up.exe" file visible i was able to get... Read more

Hello, I have been having a problem recently with my desktop's wireless connections. I know the hardwire connections worked without a problem while I was living on campus but while I am at home on winter break I have to rely on a wireless setup. The machine's specs are listed next to my profile name, and I am using a Linksys wireless-N receiver and router. What happens is once I log on and the machine boots up it automatically connects to my secured and encrypted connection with full signal strength and pretty good speed. It is capable of full internet connectivity and web browsing, but it often fails after a while.

I have had this problem for a couple weeks, ever since I moved out of my dorm. My brother uses the same USB receiver and we tried switching out the adapters with the same result so I am also fairly certain the adapter is not the cause here. Typically, if I only browse the web the connection has no problems, but if I try to connect to Steam or use Himachi to connect to a LAN with some friends the signal changes from high strength to limited connectivity and displays the yellow triangle/exclamation point icon on the task tray. Once this occurs I am unable to connect to the internet whatsoever, though the signal strength from my router is still very strong. I live in an apartment and my room is right next to where the router is located with only a wall getting in between the adapter and router, so I don't think that's an issue either. Oh, and the... Hey, i have a windows 7 laptop that ive just recently purchased. The wireless Connectivity was working fine last week, now suddenly it just wont work. I believe that its due to a program i recently installed that goes by the name of Connectify. I have uninstalled it yet still whenever i try connecting to any router wirelessly, the PC displays limited or no connectivity. On the other hand When i connect my laptop to a router via an Ethernet cable everything is fine. In case you are wondering, im currently using a 3g usb wireless stick to surf the internet, but i dont want to use it as i already have a router to use. Here are all my info:

Hello there, I have a problem with connectivity on my Vista PC.
ive tried many possible solutions but couldn't solve it.

Can someone please help with this?

Thnx a lot for your time

Answer:Vista Network Adapter Limited Connectivity

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit).
Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP (Home or Pro), SP1-SP2-SP3, Vista (Home, Business, Ultimate), etc.
The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.

Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms?
For wireless issues, have you disabled all encryption on the router to see if you can connect that way?
Have you connected directly to the broadband modem to see if this is a router or modem/ISP issue?
If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally?

On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this:

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

Type the following commands on separate lines, following each one with the Enter key:

I recently had to replace my wireless adapter and received a Broadcom BCM943228HMB from my HP rep.  I am unable to find a driver for this adapter for Windows 7 64bit.  I borrowed an adapter from another 8470p and it works, so it is not the M/B.Does someone have the correct driver?

Answer:Broadcom Wireless Adapter

Hi: You need this driver... This package contains Broadcom Wireless LAN driver and is required to enable the integrated Broadcom Wireless LAN adapter in supported notebook models running a supported operating system. This package also contains the Broadcom Wireless Utility application and IHV Extensions that add support for Cisco Compatible Extensions. ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp70501-71000/sp70616.exe

The router is a Netgear DG834G and the 3 computers connected to it are all Netgear too.
Any reason why the broadcom adapter would't see my router?
Cheers

Answer:Broadcom 802.11g wireless adapter

What model & manufacturer of laptop, and are you using WEP or WPA on the Router? The simple thing to look for is if the Wifi adapter light is lit up on the laptop. If it is a Compaq/Hp notebook, you would have a blue light that has an icon next to it that looks like a lollipop silkscreen icon. Same color for Gateway.

I would make sure that the Wifi Adapter is Enabled, or otherwise it would never work.

Hi,

I don't know how but all of a sudden I faced this issue whereby when connected through modem directly I am getting limited or no connectivity and can't acces interent. However when connected through Phone adapter( Internet cable to modem-->modem-->phone adapter-->computer) I am getting good connection.

Don't knwo what went wrong ,but now I want my laptop to get directly connected through modem. pls help

I tried manually setting the IP address ( I ran ipconfig , when connected through phone adapter, that is when I was connected , copied the ip address, default gateway, subnet mask and connection suffix and then changed the setup by connecting laptop directly to Modem , then manually assigned the ip address, default gateway, subnet mask and connection suffix obtained from above steps) but this also didn't help.

I have a windows XP, but don't know if it has SP2 . I never applied any patch. How to know if its SP2 or not ( if that is the cause of the problem)

Hi,

I'm using an Acer Aspire One Laptop which has suddenly started running very slowly and taking a long time to shut down and restart. I'd like to update all the drivers and malware software but can't currently get online.

When connecting to my usual wireless network I get the error: "The connection was unsuccessful. This computer currently has limited connectivity to NETWORKNAME".

If I click on "troubleshoot problems" the ultimate outcome is "There might be a problem with the driver for the Wireless Network adapter".

Connection via an ethernet cable isn't possible.

If I run ipconfig /all I get this:

Primary Dns suffix: (blank)
Node Type: Hybrid
IP Routing Enabled: No
WINS Proxy Enabled: No

Tunnel adapter Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface

Media State: Media disconnected
Connection-specific DNS suffix: (blank)
Description: Teredo tunneling Pseudo-Interface
Physical Address: 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-E0
DHCP Enabled: No
Autoconfiguration Enabled: Yes
Grateful for any advice.

Many thanks,
Sam

Answer:The connection was unsuccessful. Limited Connectivity. Adapter Problem

You could be describing exactly what is happening to my PC at the moment. Driven me mad all day. Work from home, so no internet access is beyond frustrating.
Worked fine on Friday, when I started Pc on Saturday wouldn't connect to internet. Not uncommon and I thought all it needed was a router reset. Left things all day Sunday came to the system this morning and have tried literally everything and followed so many supposed fixes, all to no avail.

I have almost exactly the same scenario as OP and similar ipconfig results.

Help please?

Hi. I am having trouble getting my Broadcom Wireless Network Adapter to work properly. I keep getting this error

This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

I have a Gateway MX6027 laptop and i went to their support site and got the drivers. I run the setup and install the drivers, but after the restart, i still get the same problem. I tried unistalling the driver and reinstalling it again but that does not seem to work.

Answer:Broadcom Wireless Network Adapter

Did this device come with a cd with it if it did then just go to control panel then to system and under the hard ware tab click device manager and the name of the device with the question mark next to it well just right click and and click update drivers then with the cd in the cd rom let the windows search for it automatically and it should fix the problem if it didnt come with a disc then go to the website and downlod the drivers if that doesnt work then its probably a bad device thats when you send it back to the manufacturer

Are you able to get your hands on a USB WiFi adapter to see if that also has the same problems?
It might also be worth checking to see how the Laptop behaves if you connect it to the router with an ethernet cable and disable WiFi.

hi,

My asus t200 transformer book has the Broadcom 802. 11abgn wireless sdio adapter.
Recently, my PC started having serious issues with connecting to public wifi.
Everytime I try, my PC says my wireless adapter is experiencing driver or hardware related issues, and the wireless function shuts down entirely.

Restarting, enabling and disabling and so forth doesn't solve the problem, only a full uninstall of the device and a clean install of most recent drivers fixes the issue, until next time I try connecting to a public wifi.

My Asus runs window 10 64bit.

Any ideas?

Answer:Broadcom 802. 11abgn wireless sdio adapter

Use a utility such as Aida64 to see exactly which model is your WiFi adapter. Then download latest driver directly from Broadcom and see if they do work. Since the problem arises only in public networks, it could also be some security restriction. I don't have a WiFi card right now, so I cannot help you with any settings. Anybody else?

I have an HP dv6-6c10us laptop with a Broadcom 802.11n wireless adapter.  It worked fine on Win 7.  When I upgraded to Win 10, it stopped working.  The driver has not been updated since 6/2/13. Until the driver gets updated by Broadcom or HP, this computer is now a desktop. Any suggestions on how to get the wireless adapter doing under Windows 10?

Hi there - my wireless adapter seems like its dead.

My laptop isn't detecting it and I cannot connect to wireless networks. The light to indicate if the wireless is on or not, is showing orange (off) instead of blue (on), when in fact the switch is in the 'on' position.

I've tried installing the broadcom driver again, but it didn't help. I'm just about to call up HP to have it serviced, unless anyone has any suggestions?

What really gets to me, is that my laptop is just about 1 and a 1/2 years old and this is the second time this exact same problem has occurred. Last time this happened, it was almost at the end of the warranty and I was able to have it repaired under the warranty. Now, I'm guessing I'll have to pay for the repair - the warranty is finished.
This second problem has occurred during a SHORTER time span - in about 4-5 months! Last time, HP's affiliates who repaired it, said the problem was the motherboard, so the motherboard was replaced (or was it just repaired?)

So I'm out of ideas. I don't even use the wireless much. Most of the time I'm connected to the internet via ethernet. What actually causes this problem?
Does anyone know how much having this repaired or having the wireless adapter or motherboard replaced would cost?

My laptop is a Compaq V3118au in case anyone's interested lol.

Sorry for my essay

Thanks for your help

Answer:Problem with broadcom wireless network adapter

i know this problem. first, try to update your BIOS. if this will helps so, the problem disappeared.
second problem connected with southbridge chip(mini-PCI-express is bus which connected directly to southbridge)
third. i recommend to sell this laptop. this platform has VERY BAD QUALITY of motherboard and has development errors(lack of northbridge and videochip heatsink). HP tried to fix this problem with new BIOS in which they changed passive thermal cooling temperature, but this is not right way.
and fourth try to replace the Wi-Fi adapter.

Can anyone suggest anything for the Wireless adapter tripping out after upgrading Win 8 to windows 8.1? Computer used to work fine on Win 8. Now I cant download large files or watch TV or you Tube or live Football 30 feet away from the Router. Yet it worked good on Windows 8. Anyone having similar problems? Is it possible to return to Windows 8? I did not make a Restore USB at Windows 8 but did a Restore USB for Win 8.1.

Answer:BROADCOM 4352 wireless adapter trips out

The Broadcom drivers aren't installing the right one but if you can visit the Windows Update Center using a wired connection there is a new driver for Broadcom that works.

Lenovo and Dell both have drivers for the 4352 as well.

Hi I purchased 2 E450 laptops for home use earlier this month. Both have an issue where the Broadcom wireless card regularly disconnects from our home wifi router.  We have 2 more older laptops than do not suffer this problem. Have tried changing the network adapter settings and unchecking the "Allow computer to turn off this device to save power" option, but this has not proved successful. Very grateful for any help.  As a Thinkpad user from the T40 era I expected better with the first Thinkpads I have purchased in 10 years!

Hi,

I have a Dell XPS8300 with a DW1501 Wireless-N WLAN Half-Mini Card. I noticed that it drops Ethernet connection. If I reboot the modem/router, it works for the day but when I power down and bootup the next day, the connection defaults to wireless.  Dell swapped out the motherboard a few years ago, when the pc was still under warranty. They said it had a known issue where the integrated half cards had an issue.  It worked fine since then but I read articles that this is happening to people who upgraded to Windows 10.  I upgraded last year and this started about a  month ago.  Does anyone know if this issue is related to driver or if it is hardware?  Thanks!

So I know that this NIC worked when it had the correct driver, but correct driver cant be found    One website based in Germany possibly with website ending in .DE had a download that I waited 90 sec to download and in the end it was an Intel driver not broadcom, and it didnt match the 5.5MB of the advertised size and was only 800k in size.OS is Windows XP Home SP3 and Laptop is a Sempron XP 2800 with 512MB RAMThanks

Alright, so I recently have subscribed to a cable company to obtain internet. They offered me a Belkin G router free. I took it. My Wii connects to it, so everything with it seems fine. However my computer has trouble with it. I have never had trouble connecting wirelessly to any other router other than this one. Whenever I try to connect to it, it says that "This computer is connected to the network but does not have access to the internet."

What can I do to fix this, any ideas? I feel like it's some weird setting somewhere, maybe not though.

How far away from your access point (i.e. wireless router/modem) are you when you experience the problem?

Is there any equipment near your AP that is giving off any EMI or RFI?

Hi, hope someone can help.

Just got new Toshiba A200 laptop with windows VISTA. Trying to go wireless using BT Home Hub.

First, connected it with Ethernet cable - fine.
Then, switched on wireless function and connected via wirelss - it found it, and it all worked fine. Then, I downloaded updates and re-booted machine.

Then, wireless still recognises the BT HomeHub, but just says connection has 'Limited or no Connectivity' - it still works fine though when wired through the Ethernet cable.

When looking at the connections, the wireless one has the letter G along it with a triangle warnign sign....

My router works fine as I run my PS3 through it all the time.

Help! Any help would be much appreciated!

I'm sure this has been posted a million times, but nothing I've tried has worked. I have been using Linux for the last 8 months or so and my wireless card works out of the box on almost all distros. Recently, I got the urge to play a Windows game, so I used my restore disks to install XP on my Acer Aspire One A150. Unfortunately, my wireless card does not work anymore (?). I am dual-booting with Ubuntu 10.10 at the moment and my wireless card works there with no problem. I have tried every fix in my limited arsenal to get it to work in XP, but to no avail. I get a Limited or No Connectivity error every time. I have tried ipconfig release, dnsflush, and renew only to not be able to renew. I'm connected to a router, which I have reset and works okay in Linux. I am connected currently using a USB D-Link N-Adapter, however, despite being "N" is considerably slower and inconvenient. I have the latest wlan adapter from Acer's website (WLAN_Atheros_7.6.0.224_XPx86_A.zip) but I still get the "Limited" error and can't ping/renew/connect. Have tried multiple browsers, etc. I'm totally stuck. I would like to give my dual-boot netbook to my girlfriend for fall term (FAFSA only accepts IE). Any help would be very much appreciated. Could someone of you please help me?
I have problem wit limited wireless connectivity on my laptop (Samsung) but also on my iPhone 4 and my wife`s LG optimus 5 duo all at the same time. I changed yesterday my router speedport which performed wireless connectivity problems, with a same one- and the problem is actually the same. For every 30 minutes I have limited access on my laptop, iPhone 4 and LG 5. If i restart the router it is OK for a while, and then again the same story. Someone told me to switch off wireless option on both phones, which made connectivity normal on my Samsung laptop.
I repeated, I changed two routers and the problem persists.
I will be highly appreciated if someone helps me to resolve this issue
Thanks in advantage,

Hi all,

My wireless was working fine but my laptop seemed to have a virus so I restored it. I had written down all the internet settings but for some reason I can't get the wireless connection running (I remember I had this problem 3 years ago when I first got the laptop but I can't remember how I fixed it, I seem to recall it had something to do with disabling ipv6, which I think I've done?)

I can get the internet fine when I connect directly via my ethernet connection.

Hello all,

I have this problem with my Dell laptop and it's really frustrating.
I have been connecting to this unsecured network from my house (not sure where the signal comes from but it should be that from my landlady as the signal is really strong!) with no problem. But all of a sudden, there's one day I lost the connection. My laptop is able to pick up the signal but shows the msg "limited and no connectivity" when connected. I tried to click the repair option, rebooted my laptop several times but it just doesnt work. This problem has persisted for 3 days now. My laptop is able to connect to my school wireless network without problem, so it's nothing to do with the hardware I think.

I have a Dell710m (I think, I don't have my laptop with me now) and it runs window XP.

Thanks a lot in advance for all the advice! Really appreciate that.
Many many thanks!!!!!

Hello,

I am having problems with my comapq Presario V2000 notebook computer. When I try to connect to my wireless network, I get a message that says "limited or no connectivity" and the internet will not work. I am connected to the network , but it is not working. It must be something to do with my router (linksys wireless 802.11 b) because I am able to connect to other unsecured connections in the area but not mine.

I have tried to reset the IP in the command prompt, but it didnt work. I have also tried to run WinsockxpFix but that didnt work either. I have searched this topic pretty thoroughly but am stumped.

When I try to connect wirelessly through my network, I have an IP that starts in 169. (Instead of 192.) so I believe I am not getting assigned a good IP address.

The issue began when I reformatted my computer to return it to factory settings and hardware.

If anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it!

Cheers!

Hi

I've had a network running problem free for some time, then I had my laptop not connected to the network for a very long time, months. When I've gone to reconnect to the network via wireless I get the dreaded "Limited or connectivity" error.

I've done lots of searching on this topic and have found numerous methods to fix the problem, all of which I have tried, that include...

1. Switching the power off/on on the modem/router
2. Running the network trouble shooting wizard, it said the WEP keys were wrong (even though they'd never been changed), so I...
3. Reset the WEP keys
4. Ran ipconfig /all
5. Disabled the wireless connection and re-enabled it
6. Manually set the IP to something outside the DHCP range
7. Making sure the latest windows updates are completed

Finally, I set it to a static IP inside the DHCP range and it connected. Obviously this is not ideal, but I'd like to know if anyone has come across this problem and has a fix?

Thanks in advance.

My issue is that I'm at home from college now that its the summer. Normally whenever I'm home with my laptop my wireless works fine. This time around it doesn't work. Every time I connect it doesn't show that there is limited connectivity but sometimes when I disconnect and reconnect it shows. I remember before that in my Networks and Sharing Center that I was connected to multiple networks of the same thing. Now I am connected to only one. I've tried many different things by searching online and various other things but no matter what I do I can't fully connect and do important things. Any suggestions to what is wrong or how to fix it?

Answer:Limited Connectivity via Wireless.

Have you made sure there isn't a firewall blocking you and have you made sure that you've entered the key correctly for the security in the router.

I take it you are trying to connect via a router ?

Just booted up a computer I hadn't used in a while.

I tried connecting to my router via LAN cable (which works fine on my laptop), and got "limited or no connectibvity" I tried repairing and said it couldn't "renew IP address"
Restarted the computer - no help.

I then tried my USB wireless adapter to connect wireless - same thing - "limited or no connectibvity", could not "renew IP address".

Ive updated LAN driver to newest one on ASROCK's website and that didn't help.

I've tried restarting the router too and that didn't help..
Not sure what the problem could be....

Answer:limited connectivity wireless

I've created a thread for you here. Tacking onto a solved thread is not a good way to get help.

You seem to have a good ethernet connection and trouble connecting via wireless, right?

Disable encryption and MAC address filtering on the router and try to connect that way. If successful then re-enable encryption and reconnect.

I need serious help. Stuck with this problem since monday.

First off, my wireless adapter is Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230. Prior to me performing a reformat of my laptop, the wireless card is working perfectly with my home wireless network. After reformatting, I can connect to my home network but not to the internet.

The rest of the computers in my home network are able to access the internet.

I have tried the following :

1.) Restarting my wireless adapter
2.) Windows network troubleshooter
2.) Switching off my router and modem for 5 mins and turning them back on
3.) Drivers for the wireless card has been updated to the latest version
4.) Performing dns flushing
5.) Tried static IP

Actually, I do not know if it is limited connectivity or not, if I recalled correctly, if it is limited connectivity, network and sharing center will state the connection as limited, but i am getting the connected. Just that the icon on the taskbar is showing one with yellow triangle exclamation mark on my wireless icon.

I am able to go online wirelessly after I repaired the intel wireless adaptor installation but after restarting my laptop, the same issue arises again.

wireless network connection status [limited connectivity], ipconfig/all of the system after reinstalling driver and not able to go online is as shown below

You should first disable both of the Microsoft Virtual WiFi mini port adaptors, you can find them in Device Manager under Network Adaptors.

Which anti virus software are you running?

Using Windows 8 and everytime I restart my computer I lose conection to the internet. I run troubleshooting and it resets my wireless adapter (Broadcom 802.11n) and it works again. But it is such a pain resetting the adapter everytime I boot it up. What can I do?

Answer:Z580 Wireless Adapter Problem.

try removing the broadcom wifi device driver in device manger, but do not delete it, then reboot you notebook and windows should spot it and re-install the driver, hopefully this will fix the problem. John.

Hi,I have a Lenovo G500 windows 8.1 with Broadcom 802.11n network adapter.I cannot get the WLAN to start. The message I get is ?This device cannot start (Code 10)?.I have tried updating the drivers with various different ones. Deleting the device and rebooting to see if it will pick up the correct driver. Doing a system restore. Installing any Windows updates that were outstanding. The thing is the wireless was working fine earlier today, it just seems to have suddenly stopped. When I try to install new drivers I get a message window saying ?Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while trying to install it?.Any ideas and help would be greatly appreiciated. One other thing, I did see a similar problem elsewhere on the internet and the advice was in the adapter properties to change the WMM setting to disabled. I did this and it did correct the problem and the WI-Fi started working again for a day or so, but I now seem to be back to square one. The issue is not with the router as all other devices in our household operate fine. I am getting desparate and maybe thinking it could be a hardware fault which might need replacing. I would be grateful for any help anyone could give me please Thanks Steve

Answer:Lenovo G500 Windows 8.1 64bit, Broadcom 802.11n Wireless Adapter "Not Starting"

Hi sjemerton ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

This device cannot start (Code 10) message is generic and may also indicate possible hardware failure .
Fastest way to isolate software versus hardware issue is doing factory reset but would delete everything and reimage it back the way it was from out of box condition along with appropriate drivers intended for the pc.

Before deciding on a full reset , you can try uninstalling all drivers for the WLAN card from the device manager but before restarting , configure driver update to never  . Install WLAN driver from the website or D:Lenovo/drivers if still available.

After installation , go back to device manager and change properties of the WLAN driver power management tab unchecked , on advance tab with roaming aggresiveness / tendency to highest.

Update us how it goes.

I've been going to the drivers site for the G570 Notebook (3443) to find a driver for my wireless Network adapter.  I have the Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter, version 5.100.82.15 dated 10-12-2010.   There are no Broadcom drivers listed at all. I'm planning on uninstalling the ReadyComm 5 and would like to have the Broadcom driver handy in case I need it. I'd appreciate any help in finding this driver.  Thank you.

Okay. So, I've had the issue of my wireless connection working, then randomly going to limited connectivity, requiring a restart to fix. Was bugging me to all hell.

Then, I noticed that if I just have my PC on, and never run anything, it stays on. Then, I left my PC on with just uTorrent running, and it stayed on. But, once I turned on Firefox, my connection lasted minutes.

I thought that was strange. So I changed to just using IE8, and my connection has been on for more than 12 hours.

So my solution is: Try not using Firefox. I haven't tested to see if it was addons that are creating this problem, but firefox definitely creates the problem for me.

glad to hear you may have cleared up your problem. Like some others having this problem, I am not running any FF here. Thanks for the post, may help out other FF users running into a similar problem.

HI, this is my dilemma, My laptop is M5030 Dell, 64 bit operating windows 7. Am trying to connect to the internet, keep getting a limited connectivity error. Ive install new window updates on the 5th and the 8th of this month. Ever since I installed those specific driver updates (I do not recall which updates I installed) am not able to connect to the internet, via wireless nor Ethernet. Ive tried to use System restore points, every time I try to restore prior or before the 5th, I end up getting a error, saying the system restore points can't be found etc, Ive done some researching to see if I can find a solution to the problem, but yet nothing. Am sure the router, is not the problem, am able to connect via wireless, thru my phone, other laptop, tablet. Am sure the issue revolves around the updates I install,
I open up cmd, I type ipconfig, the results that I get:
Windows Up configuration
Tunnel adapter Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface:
Media State ............: Media diconnected
Connection-specific Dns Suffix , :
is there any solution to this issue that am encountering?
Much appreciated for the help.
-Thanks Rock.

Based on the data you have provided you have no network cards installed. How was your laptop connected with the ipconfig results (wired or wireless)? Check device manager (devmgmt.msc) for installed network adapters.

Answer:Limited connectivity on wireless connection

Top suspect here is a mismatched encryption key or MAC filtering blocking the new laptop.

Disable ALL wireless security on the router, remove ALL stored wireless network profiles from the machine, and then try to connect again. If you're successful, then you can enable encryption on the router again.

Limited or no connectivity - wireless and NIC cards

Something happened to my computer a few days ago that stopped allowing it to connect to the internet. I used was using a NIC card for that computer switched to a wireless card and still have problems connecting. The wireless card on the 2nd computer but doesnt work on the problem computer. Router connects with line to 2nd computer fine too. So I think I narrowed my problem down to the problem computer.

As from a suggestion before, I tried winsockxpfix and lspfis programs and reset my TCP/IP stack with command line: netsh int ip reset. These havnt helped. I also tried manually setting my ip and while I dont have the error message, I cant connect. Now I am clueless as to what to do next.

The only thing I remembered doing before this is installing microsoft antivirus update before I rebooted.

Hi there,

I have just bought a Dell Inspiron Mini 10v, which is running on XP. The wireless doesn't seem to be working though - as it will find an IP address but gets the 'limited or no connectivity' error, caused by the network not assigning a network address. I would greatly appreciate any help on this!

I have tried to repair the wireless connection, to no avail, as well as change the firewall. I tried downloading a driver from the Dell website but it wouldn't download.

Very frustrating for a new computer!

Before I begin, I'd like to note that I'm not incredibly experienced when it comes to computers, and the information I give you may not be thorough enough. If that is the case, please ask for any extra necessary information and how to get it, if you'd so please. Thanks.

I bought a Dell Inspiron 1545 December 19th of last year, with Windows 7 Home Premium. I didn't get an opportunity to use the internet on it until after Christmas, I connected wirelessly to a linksys router with no problems. After using it for a few hours, I was disconnected and the router would not appear on my search. I then hardwired my computer with an ethernet cable to get it to work, with no problems. I then stayed a week at a resort, in which I could select connections but I'd only get limited connectivity on every one. Once again, I was able to hardwire it.

I'm back at school and I'm still unable to get a connection without limited connectivity. I've tried several different places to try to connect, all giving me limited connectivity.

I'm not sure how I successfully used wireless for a few hours then for it to stop working altogether, but I'm in desperate need for it to be fixed.

Thanks for your time everyone and as I said, if you need more info, please ask.

Ok, so my friend's laptop does not connect to my wireless network when we enable WEP

she can connect to any other wireless but not ours.

when we DISABLE WEP it works though.

there is NO MAC filtering

she uses some old laptop but it's good enough to connect to other networks, even her homes, and she uses the same router we do.

So... any ideas?

Yes, we are typing in the right WEP also, control C on two different laptops and it worked.

Ok so I currently have the infamous 169.254 ip address situation on my laptop when my wireless is trying to connect. The weird part is how it all started. I was actually connected to the wireless network here at work and everything was fine until AIM cutout and firefox stopped loading pages even though it showed I was still connected to the wireless. A minute or so after that is when it began showing the limited or no connectivity error along with the 169 ip address.

I've tried the winsockxpfix program along with all of the ways microsoft suggests using netsh winsock reset and netsh winsock reset catalog and i even reinstalled tcp/ip using netsh commands. I've also tried resetting the wireless network here to no avail and my buddy's laptop right next to me is connected just fine although he did get disconnected around the time mine started giving the error. I've also tried numerous registry edits like the one to disable the IPAutoconfiguration which also didn't seem to work. My wired connection that I am on right now also gave me an error at first with connectivity but worked after using the repair function for the connection but however didn't have the 169 error.

The drivers I had on here were fairly old due to testing out the WEP cracking method with this built in intel wireless, so I uninstalled them and upgraded to the latest also with no success. I've ran out of ideas and suggestions that I could possibly look up on google since the u... Read more

Hello,Hope you can help Set up a wireless network through Virgin Modem and Netgear router. Have a network set up can connect to it but on my windows wireless network manager is says limited or no connectivity and on the virgin wirless manager it also cant connect to the wireless network. However when I run a cable from the netgear router it works which what Im using now. I have the same problem on two pc's. I know the laptop I am using now works ok using Wifi as I can connect to my friends virgin network without any issues. I have done the usual pings and ip configs everything is fine. The wifi light and the Internet light are both on on the netgear router so I am finding it hard to believe that its a problem with that. Although if 2 machines can see anc connect to a network its broadcasting but have no connectivity to it not sure what else It can be even though its working through a cable. For the record both my laptop and desktop are Windows XP. Any help would be much appreciated thank you

Answer:Wireless Network- Limited or No Connectivity

First of all try removing the wireless profile for the network from Windows then type in the security key again when connecting , making sure it is copied correctly . You could also try the router without any wireless security ( temporarily ) to see if that is indeed the problem , if that works then try it will some WEP security , and if that is Ok , try a shortish ( and preferably random )WPA key . I usually find that the commonest cause is a mis-copied security key . Ashley

Have been having issues with limited connectivity. When running my one computer I do get limited connectivity a couple times a day. When I have both computers on at the same time it's usually limited connectivity all the time. One is running Win 7 and the other XP. I have a WT110 router and a Surfboard modem. They are running on a network and DHCP. They have differing IP addresses which from what I've read is good. Here is the ipconfig for my WIN 7 computer. They are both running wirelessly.

Hi Guys,

Looks like this is one of the most active forums on the net and I am hoping that I am able to find some help

I am having problems connecting to the internet through the wireless on my Windows XP service pack 2. It was working fine, I moved, got a new internet connection but now it has gone Kaput. It get the message " Limited or No Connectivity " and at times it shows connected but I am unable to browse.

Following are my findings:

* My Roomies laptops on Win 7 work fine on Wi Fi
* My work laptop on Windows XP works fine on Wi Fi
* IP config gives 192.168.1.*
* Unable to ping the default gateway
* Internet works fine on my Laptop through Lan Cable.

I have tried the following.

- Power cycling the modem and router
- Resetting Winsock and TCP IP
- Windows Repair by right clicking on wireless icon
- IP Config Release and Renew doesn't work

Any thoughts guys ??

Hello everyone, i offer up a huge cookie for anyone who can help me out. This problem is killing me, and I have tried nearly everything I can think of to fix it.

My home network, as well as the network at school are both listing as limited or no connectivity. I am currently using Windows XP, when I boot to Linux via a live usb version I can however connect perfectly without problems.

I have deduced that it is now a problem with my modem, wireless, or network card. Any clues as to where I can go from here? I would name the things i have already tried but it would not be worth it since I have possibly screwed some of them up since it is still not working. So please, post any and all suggestions. Would really like to get this working again for school.

Hi.

When trying to Connect to the internet, I am seeing "Aquiring Network Address" for a while and then eventually get the "Limited Connectivity" message. This is happening when I try both a wireless and wired connection, although other laptops and my PS3 can get online OK.

I've tried resetting the router, checked the WPA is right (and also disabled security to try without) and did the Winsock reset in CMD but all with no luck.

Any ideas of what else to try? Thanks.

Hey techguys,

I've been having some trouble with my wireless connection, I've recently got a new router (BT Home Hub) which I'm currently connected to via an ethernet cable but the wireless connection is telling me there's limited or no connectivity.
Here's my ipconfig log:

Answer:vista wireless - limited connectivity

from the vista PC can we see

------------------------------------------------------------------------
{ipconfig /all}
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results in a reply here

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results to notepad and then automatically open notepad.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results to a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will be highlighted
Next
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy
Now go back to the forum - reply and then right click in the reply box and paste
------------------------------------------------------------------------

------------------------------------------------------------------------
{run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector} Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC

Answer:Limited Connectivity with Vista wireless.

You got a good IP configuration from the router. Open a Command prompt and try these pings. You can show the results the same way you showed the ipconfig /all

ping 192.168.2.2
ping 192.168.2.1
ping 206.190.60.37

Answer:limited connectivity wireless vista

PING 206.190.60.37

Hello,

I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop with Vista that I cannot seem to connect to the wireless network that is in place in my apartment building. It has no problems connecting to any other wireless networks, but I continually get the 'Limited Connectivity'/Unidentified message with this one, whereas my roommate who also uses a Vista computer gets on fine.

I have tried other fixes from other posts, like disabling IP Helper and going into the System Registry to change the DhcpConnForceBroadcastFlag values to '0', but still no permanent fixes.

I will include my IP information below. Also, please note that I have no other firewall but the Windows Firewall & Defender, and a Symantec AntiVirus program that I do not believe is a firewall (but correct me if I'm wrong).

Thanks in advance for any help

Used a working wireless external card with same problem....Will conect ok when hooked up to ethernet card directly into router. Tried windows repair with no luck. Disabled and enabled with same results.

Answer:Limited or no connectivity using wireless card

Have you tried re-installing your wireless adapter's driver?Check your TCP/IP settings for your wireless adapter. Go to Start > Control Panel > Network Connections > Right click on your wireless connection and select Properties > Double click on TCP/IP (you might have to scroll down to see it) > Select both Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically > Click OK > Reboot. Some Internet Service Providers require specfic DNS settings make sure this is not reuired before making this change.

Hi,

So I've been getting a bit annoyed with my wireless. I recently moved into a new apartment and when I connect to the router using the wireless. I get limited connectivity, it accepts the security key but can not get the internet. Connect wirelessly to another router within range and can connect to the internet via that. Also if I connect a ethernet cable to the router it gives me internet access. I couldn't see any settings in the routers menu that would prevent me from connecting(but im probably being blind).

Two other guys I'm sharing the apartment with can connect to the internet wirelessly with no issues. The router is a Thomson TWG870UIR.

And below is some of the info I think you'd ask me for anyway .
