Lenovo IdeaPad Y410p won't power on with power adapter plugged in and won't charge battery.

Question: Lenovo IdeaPad Y410p won't power on with power adapter plugged in and won't charge battery.

Hello all, I recently recieved my IdeaPad Y410p from the Lenovo repair centre and they changed my system board for a different issue, but now I have a new problem. I updated Windows to 8.1 and did all the critical updates and then tried to uninstall some of Lenovo's bloatware and now my laptop won't turn on or charge the battery. I tried to do a power drain (remove the battery and hold down the power button), but still no luck. The laptop won't turn on at all with the battery or the plug by itself. I then waited a few hours and tried to turn on my laptop again and then this time it powered on for some reason! I quickly restored my system back to Windows 8 thinking there was a problem with an update or bloatware uninstallation and then all seemed well until I powered down my laptop again, but then couldn't power it back on. I called Leneovo and they said it was impossible for it to be a hardware problem since they just repaired it and since I updated everything and then restored it back, which then it still had the same power issues means it most likely isn't software. The only other thing I could think of is there might be a problem with the power adapter, but I've had this laptop since July 2013 and the adapter was working perfectly fine and this problem only started once I received my laptop back from Lenovo after a "repair". Any other suggestions would be very much appreciated at this point. Thanks!

Preferred Solution: Lenovo IdeaPad Y410p won't power on with power adapter plugged in and won't charge battery.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Lenovo IdeaPad Y410p won't power on with power adapter plugged in and won't charge battery.

Hi there - I wanted to add that I am having the same problem. I sent my Lenovo in for warranty repair (rear left hinge broke) - I got it back Friday May 16th and ever since then it won't stay on and sometimes won't turn on. I called Lenovo warranty support and (of course) they denied it was their problem. However, I complained enough that they're going to send me a new one. Of course, you have to be in-warranty for this to work. Just a suggestion Hope you get your straightened out!!!

Didn't realize the laptop was unplugged and went completely dead sitting there for a month. Went to plug in to power up and nothing. Thought maybe cat chewed on charger cable and tested it and was only pulling 4v vs the 20v it's supposed to but tried new charger that Lenovo sent and still nothing. I've heard battery could be un-chargeable if left to completely die and sit for a while but still don't get why laptop won't boot up when plugged in.  Am I dealing with something else internal in addition to a dead battery?

Went to turn on my Lenovo Ideapad Y410p laptop and nothing happened! No led lights with power source on and battery in. When I used it two days ago, I ran AVG and spy-bot and everything was fine. Used it a little bit and turned it off. Now nothing??? Did the power/battery disconnect with holding power button for 30 seconds... nothing. Both batteries 9 cell and 6 cell had full charge, tried my other Lenovo charger... no go. A surge couldn't have happened as the laptop is plugged into same strip as my other lenovo laptop is and that one is working fine.

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad Y410p won't power on... No power light?

Hi jack61 ,

Greetings.

We now know, power drain failed. No LED error codes , No beep codes
No activity lights even with battery charging led.
Not turning on even with known good charged batteries.
No power even with known good ac adapter.

What we can try:
Try plugging it directly on the wall and press novo key (number 1 page 7) to turn it on instead.
Check if the power port shows any signs of burnt / damage / looseness .
Press Novo key using a charged battery.
Remove battery, harddrive , memory and other accessories and plug directly with a known working adapter and or with a charged battery ( it should at least beep).

If all fails , you can have it checked for the motherboard issue with a technician (checking on the internals /cleaning or reseating parts connected to the board / applying thermal paste (for processor isolation) / checking on dc in board and port).

You can check for your warranty here and call in tech support for service.

Regards

Purchased an adapter this morning, battery charges for about 10 seconds. Battery is now dead and laptop will boot up when plugged in with the battery installed, lets me logon and then shuts off with no lights on the front panel. Hi. I am running a Dell inspiron 5150 apx 3yrs old. 3.06ghz , 1GB ram , win xp pro service pack 2.

Recently I noticed that the screen was flickering from dim to bright. At first I was not sure what was going on but then it went dim and stayed. Then I noticed that the machine was running on battery power , even though the power adapter was plugged in.

I checked and cleaned all the connections and checked the output voltage of the power adapter which was exactly as specified in Dell owners manual and sticker on power adapter.

I was able to get it to "recognize" the power adapter by shutting down and booting up with the battery pulled out. After windows loaded I plugged battery back in and everthing is fine , but this has happened several times now in the last couple of months.

The battery shows 98% charge when this occurs. I have used this machine with the adapter most of the time since I've had it , so the battery has only been cycled a few times. Of those times it was only used for an hour or two except for one time during a hurricane power failure when I ran it down to the point that I got power warning at around 30%. I was wondering if I should go ahead and run the battery down and then charge it back up occasionally?

Anyone know what's causing this and how to make it stop? It is pretty annoying.

Thanks in advance, beavis79.

Recently I have been having problems viewing YouTube, Hulu and videos on other websites with either Firefox or IE, videos all appear zoomed way in to the point of not being able to make them out, but the videos play fine using Chrome.

Plus when trying to play wmv or avi through Windows Media Player the videos all appear to zoomed way in just like on-line videos where you can not view them too, but if I load the videos into another media player they work fine.
If I unplug the power adapter on my laptop and run off battery power videos play perfect then if I plug adapter back in even while watching a video the video will zoomed way in.

If I log on as a different user all videos play fine. I really don't want to have to get all my programs and stuff setup under a new user if I don't have to.

Seems to be just affecting Firefox, IE9 and Windows Media Player only.

I have tried the following suggestions from HP (laptop is under warranty)
Updated bios
reinstalled video drivers
Tried to do a system restore from safe mode, only had recent restore points.

Open for ideas on what to look for since under a new user account solves problem or running laptop on battery
If any one has any suggestions I would really appreciate the help.
Thank you

i have a common problem that my laptop don t on or charge battery or switch on ac adapter by reading through the forum's  i can t find out what the problem would be so i can solve it ?

Answer:my laptop lenovo don t charge or load on ac power adapter

n1ghtwalk3r, Welcome to the forum.  What model system do you have? If you remove the battery, will it start up on AC?   I suggest you get a digital meter, set for 20V DC range and test the voltage coming out of adapter at the tip that would plug into the laptop.  This should help you figure out if the Adapter is working - it should be putting out 16V-20V. If not, replace it. If it works, and your system runs with the battery out, then I suggest your battery is bad and should be replaced. Best regards, Mark

Iv recently encountered the dreaded Plugged-In not charging Error
Upon Boot
ALERT! AC power wattage and type cannot be determined. The battery may not charge. The system will adjust the performance to match the power available.
Iv come to the conclusion its the module that determines the adapter and wattage type.
As iv tested it with known working chargers and batteries.
Can anyone *** me with this knowledge or allow me to get a schematic for the mother board?

Just faced a rather strange issue, but not really an issue, just different system behaviour than expected. System:W520 Batteries:55++ connected27++ connected Power adapter:Unplugged No other accessories connected. Scenario:I was using the system till it power itself off due to low power (0% reached for both batteries). i.e. Ungraceful Windows shutdown. Then upon pressing the power on button, the LEDs flashes, no THINKPAD logo or BIOS message appears, system appears to then restart again, and the LEDs flash again...and loops until it was no longer able to even attempt to POST. Expected behaviour:Either display the message that says "Battery level is too low".OrDon't loop (this is the behaviour when only the 55++ battery is connected at 0%) Why does having the 27++ would make the system go through this looping cycle?

Answer:W520, 55++, 27++, unplugged from power adapter, 0% battery. Press Power button --> power up loops.

Hello Chatbox,

I can understand your issue very well, as there is no message comes on the screen which gives you information to plug the power adapter and prevent the laptop to get shut down.

You should install Power Manager software and then customize it as per your requirement.
The software can be download from the mentioned below web link.
http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/8mu417ww.exe

Hope, after this laptop will not shut down automatically due to battery backup

Best Regards,

IdeaPad Yoga 11S, Factory ID: JVHFC1, Part No: 59292852, Model: 20248, O/S: Windows 8.1 Whenever I plug in the poweradapter, the screen goes dark and will not come back until I unplug the power adapter. This happens anytime, whetherthe battery is fully charged or low. The power adapter charges the battery to full charge so the adapter appears towork. This problem started happening only in the last month. Have had this computer for 2 years. This prevents mefrom using the computer when the battery is low because plugging in the power adapter shuts down the display. Anyone know what is causing this problem?  Thanks in advance for any new info.

Hi maoxiaomin,Thanks for posting and welcome to the community. Based from your post does sound a bit similar to a machine I have which is the Y500. In my case I had to send my machine in to servie for board replacement as they detected it to be faulty. However in your case, I'm not saying that this is the exact same case but let look at the the possibilities first and if all still fails you'll need to contact our service team for further diagnosis.Understandably we've established that you've update the BIOS, battery firmware and ever rest you BIOS.Firsting first though could you uninstall the Lenovo energy mangement and reinstall it back from the Link belowWin8 :http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/em8.08.0.2.4.exeWin8.1http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/em8180214.exeHope this helps and please do post back your results.Regards

I haven't found any similar issue online, so i decided to post this here. When I have my notebook attached to my power adapter AND the battery is inserted it crashes at some time. Hallo,I bought me a Lenove S110 and I'm pretty much ok with it. Today I wanted to use the "Energy Management" feature and change the modus from "Battery Health" to the more battery friendly "Battery Best Health". After doing so I recognized that the battery was consuming power though the netbook was plugged in and with "normal" power. All cable has been plugged in correct and the netbook was really with normal power. Therefore I switched it back to the old modus. Does anybody have an explanation or any idea about this? I really like to have it with the "Battery Best Health" status. Many thanksAndreas

Answer:Lenovo S110 Battery consumes power even when plugged in

Hi

Welcome To Lenovo Community

We are really sorry to hear about the issue you are facing,
Please refer below link which gives clear explanation of usage of Lenovo Energy Management

 http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=HT034410

Engineering's explaination for this software as follows.
Firstly, this behavior is working as designed after clarifying. 'Best Battery Health' mode is to protect battery life if customer always inserts the AC adapter.
The design logic is: 1. Battery have the longest storage life if keep the capacity around 40%-50%. 2. If the customer always insert AC adapter during using (or most of the time), they can choose this mode, and system will keep the battery capacity between 46%-50% for the best storage condition. 3. Once the customer displug the AC adapter and battery capacity drop to 40%, system will detect that using condition is not comfortable for 'Best Battery Health', and change the working mode to 'Optimize...' mode, which could let customer charge the battery to 100% for better moving working/using.

Just received my new T430s and the first thing I tried to do is insert the 3 cell Li-ion bay battery from my T420s into it. However, during boot up system says it does not recogise this type of battery (ESC key needed to get pass this screen to continue bootup).
In the power manager, the battery will shows up, and the T430s can use the battery normally. However, it just refuse to charge it. I have tried to update battery firmware and read any FAQ in the T430s manual or lenovo website. Nothing shows up. It is weird that such an advance battery cannot be used in a new laptop just 1/2 generation from the last one. I saw from lenovo website that the new 3 cell battery is Type 43.

Has anyone using Tx30 laptops successfully use this battery? Thank you

Answer:Lenovo T430s can draw power from 3 cell bay battery but cannot charge

The T430s employs the new Rapid Charge feature. This requires a new generation of batteries that are incompatible with the old.

I was able to find this statement about main batteries:
New battery models (70+, 70++, 81+, 82+) feature a hardware authentication chip. These batteries will work in 2012 and older ThinkPads. Existing battery models (55, 55+, 55++, 66+) do not have a hardware authentication chip and will be recognized, but not be charged, in 2012 ThinkPads.
This doesn't mention your model 42 battery but the T430s announcement did include a new model 43 3-cell battery (0A36310) so it's likely the same restriction applies.

Hello,I'm not quite sure what has happened, but my Lenovo y410p isn't taking a charge or even detecting that it's plugged in anymore. Before I went to bed last night I put my laptop on hibernate while it was plugged in. I woke up this morning and it was completely shut off, which I thought was odd. I thought it maybe had restarted for an update or something but that wouldn't make sense. Anyway, I tried powering it on and after booting up for about 3 seconds it just shut off again. It did this a couple times even though my ac adapter was plugged in. I unplugged everything and tried a new outlet a few mintues later. It booted up and was working for about two hours. While I was using it I noticed the battery icon said was no longer showing that the laptop was plugged in, even though I had left it plugged in. I tried doing the same thing I did before a number of times but to no success. I went out and bought a universal AC adapter as a replacement and tried that but the laptop would still not detect or take a charge. I don't know what to do. Help? Thanks,Bryon

Answer:Power Adapter and Battery - Lenovo Y40

Hi Fandisutanto,

Welcome to the Forums

As per the query we understood that you are looking to use the power adapter when battery connected in your Lenovo Y40 laptop.

You can use the adapter while battery connect and fully charged, when the adapter is connected the system takes the power from the adapter when the adapter is disconnected the system takes the power from the battery.

Hope this helps. Do post back if the issue persists!

Hello to all! The situation:I bought the laptop last summer when I was in USA. Then the problem with the battery has appeared (battery status was bad, and battery changing was required) and one day it wasn't able to charge it at all. So i placed my laptop to the authorized service center here in Russia. They replaced the battery but said that it has problem with charging controller on motherboard and Lenovo doesn't send such motherboard to Russia. Now I can start my laptop without battery(after pressing power button 20 secs) and it able to charge the battery only when it is totally empty (if I unplug the power adapter and plug it again the charging is not going to continue). Lenovo representative in Russia said that they can do nothing. Y410P has international warranty. What should I do? Thanks in advance!

I bought a refurbished T400 less than 3 months ago. Today the power status change beeps started going off every minute or so, the power indicator light went off (while plugged in) and the battery began discharging. At the same time, the screen started flickering. I powered down and tried draining the static by using the old trick: removing the battery and ac plug and pressing the start button 10 times and then holding on the 11th try. Didn't solve the problem. When I use battery only, the screen doesn't flicker. Plug in power and the screen starts flickering again, with the power LED mostly off but occasionally flickering on briefly. The battery is not listed as charging. Nothing to indicate that the power is plugged in, except for the occasional flash of the LED and the power status change beeps. When I power down again and stay plugged in both the power LED and the battery LED keep flashing. First both are flashing green, but in a few minutes the battery light turns flashing orange. If I remove the battery, both LEDs keep flashing. Try to power on that way and nothing happens - the LED's keep flashing, but it doesn't power on at all Battery is new (the first one shipped wouldn't hold a charge at all; this one lists as good condition). I don't have another Lenovo power supply to try, but the current one doesn't appear damaged or bent at all. I tried jiggling it while plugged in and there was no change. The last thing I did before the pr... Read more

Answer:T400 Power Problem: Flashing AC Power LED, No Battery Charge, Screen Flicker, No AC Boot

It sounds like either the ac adapter is sick (most likely) or the jack is bad.  If the power supply doesn't have "Lenovo" moulded into the plastic, it is probably a knock-off, and they use crummy wires between the transformer and the round plug.  This is a common probem for fake adapters

I have an IdeaPad 500.  The A/C charger is "plugged in" and the icon says it is "charging" but there is no charge to the battery, which is now at 53% (it was 55% yesterday).   I have gone to the forum and done what they suggest (e.g. turned off the Conservation Mode).  Unlike most questions on the forum, my system says "charging" rather than "not charging".  And because it is an IdeaPad, I cannot remove the battery (at least not without opening up the case).  I am a bit worried this is a hardware/battery failure -- but I hope this forum might give me a software fix

Thanks in advance

Unplug the system, remove or disconnect the battery, and hold the power button for 30 sec.  Remove the base cover and memory modules;  reinstall both.
Try powering up on AC only - if it will but won't with the battery, the battery is faulty.
If it still won't power up  after the foregoing, the mainboard is bad.

In the last few days I will have my laptop on with it plugged into the AC Adapter which is going straight to a wall outlet, after a couple of hours, my laptop turns off.  On closer inspection, I realsie that the battery is not charging.  I have to shut down my laptop and let if charge for a few hours, and then work on it.  But it won't charge while I am working with it plugged into the outlet.  I have read up about Windows 10 being a possibility of be the cause, so I do a battery uninstall, and rebooted the laptop, but that doesn't seem to have changed anything.  What I am missing here? Thanks in Advance

Hello,

any advice appreciated.

I have had a Satellite Pro L20 for about 18 months. Recently the battery does not charge when AC adapter is plugged in. The battery light starts off yellow (meaning over discharged, I think?), then goes to green once the machine has been on for a while. However ACPI often says AC is "offline".

There are two recent occurences that coincide with this problem, which I am attempting to eliminate:

1. My girlfriends pet rat chewed through the power cable! Power is getting to laptop OK insomuch as it runs off mains - the rat seems to have just chewed through the outer cover (I can see some wire, but I think that is just shielding, though I am not an electrician).

2. I put the laptop into hibernation for the first time. This seemed to mess up the system a bit, which was what initially alerted me to the problem. This matter is slightly complicated in that I am running Linux (Xubuntu).

I updated the drivers etc from windows when I bought the laptop. Never had any trouble up till now and have been running linux for ages. Also, I mainly power the laptop off mains, but do not remove the battery (is that really a problem these days?)

I will obviously need to replace the AC adaptor, but is it likely (and how can I check) that the battery has been borked in the meantime?

cheers
chris

Answer:Satellite Pro L20: battery does not charge when AC adapter is plugged in

First of all please check if the other LEDs are on.
If the AC led and the power led are on then the AC adaptor is ok and provides the power to the notebook.

>The battery light starts off yellow (meaning over discharged, I think?), then goes to green once the machine has been on for a while
If the battery LED is yellow, this means that the battery is not fully charged and if the led changes to green then the charging procedure is fished and the battery was recharged.

So I really don?t see any problems with the charging procedure.

Possibly the battery is old and therefore you cannot use it for a longer period? in such case only the battery replacement could helps.

Hi, I am holding a Lenovo Ideapad Y470P with the following specs:Intel Core i7 2670QM8GB DDR3 RAMAMD Radeon HD 7690M 2GB DDR3HGST 750GB HarddriveDVD Re-Writer. The problem I face is that the laptop refuse to power up, all LED doesn't have lights I tried removing the battery and use only AC Adapter, no luck. I tried using battery-only, no luck. I tried both battery and AC Adapter, no luck. This is weird the laptop work very well, minutes before the failure I have burn some CD-RW. After that use Chrome to browse the web, suddenly I heard the Harddrive click (once) and the whole machine power off. After this happen, the laptop is dead totally, battery not charging as all LED lights is off. I don't use this laptop for gaming at all. I was wondering why this laptop suffer from a sudden hardware failure.Very low utilisation as I have other computer. Is it worth to repair this laptop? If there are fuse in the machine, will the fuse restore itself like those polyfuse? Some common issue I face is the AMD Radeon HD 7690M may give me the BSOD once in a while.

Answer:Lenovo Y470P Fail to Power Up with Either Battery or AC Adapter

I had this exact same problem with my Y470 in the past day or so (except I cant tell if my hard drive had a clicking sound since it seemed to happen overnight - I was using it till around 10pm and then woke up in morning it was shutdown with no lights blinking). Mine is the model with same CPU (i7-2670QM) but with the Nvidia GT555 GPU. I also tried some solutions that seem to have worked for other Lenovo laptops including pressing power button 10 times at 1 second interval then insert battery and power adapter and then press power button 30 seconds to see if it starts again but that did not help with this particular model. So am interested in knowing what other possible things could be tried to diagnose and/or fix this issue. I did notice that when I inserted the battery and then plugged the power adapter, the battery light on the front of the laptop would blink dark amber (almost red?) repeatedly. If I removed the battery and tried turning on the laptop with just the power adapter, there are no lights blinking and it ofcourse does not turn on. Thanks to anyone for any input/feedback to me and the OP about this problem.-Topper

This is in response to the problem everyone is having with the battery not charging when plugged in. I found this in the guide for my idea pad Z400. It should help many of you to finally make peace with your battery Battery (B):      Battery Mode (B-1):  By using the battery maintenance function, it is possible to extend the battery lifespan. Before you use this function, read the precaution. Energy Management 8.0 can automatically track your habit of battery use, and then provide suggestions on selecting a battery maintenance mode for extending the battery lifespan. Two battery modes are provided: Maximum Battery Life and Optimized Battery Health.       Maximum Battery Life: In this mode, the battery has the most powerful charging capacity. Note that this mode cannot optimize the battery circle lifespan.       Optimized Battery Health: In this mode, the battery limits charging to 60% of its full capacity. This can reduce the battery degradation and extend the battery lifespan.

Hello Lenovo community, I would like to report a problem about my laptop ideapad y580. When I am plugged in and charging, my games run splendidly. No lag at all, but when I remove the charger it starts to lag like crazy! Almost unbearable. Now here are some solutions that I found on the internet that did not work for me, so please do not post these same solutions. -Using the Lenovo dynamic graphics while on battery power.-Going to the NVIDIA controll panel and changing the universal setting of "Power management mode" to maximum performance.-Going to lenovo dynamic graphics advanced settings and changing the cpu usage to maximum. Please help quick! I'v had this problem for quite a while and I would realy like to fix it. And I don't want to buy another laptop eather,so I hope this problem is fixable. BTW I got my laptop from amazon.com

I recently purchased a Lenovo Ideapad 110-15ISK, Model 80UD0017US, and would like to purchase a 2nd power adapter as a backup. I saw in the hardware manual that there are several part numbers listed, and the specific ones on my adapter are:45w AC Adapter Model Name: PA-1450-55LLLC P/N: 5A10H42923 In looking for the part online, I saw several on eBay and Amazon with the PA-1450-55LL reference, but at least one seller mentioned that the size of the connectors aren't always the same. In the hardware manual I did not see a reference as to the connector size (ie 4.0mm*1.7mm), which is the connector size reference I saw by one seller. Does anyone know the connector size on this power adapter for my model? Thanks,Kim

Laptop: Lenovo Ideapad S100c  Good day! I'm a complete novice at computer troubleshooting. So, please excuse me if I sound like an idiot.  I bought the laptop just 10 days ago (warranty of 1 year). It worked fine before but suddenly the battery won't charge. The icon indicates that it is 'plugged in, charging'. But even if i leave it with the charger plugged in, it won't seem to store the 'charge' and now I'm stuck at 6%.  This is not the first time this problem occurred. One time, I shut it down and plugged it into the charger and left it to charge for a couple of hours. When I opened it, it didn't seem to charge at all. So, I opted to charge it while it was open and it worked.  And, now I leave it open when I charge it but it doesn't seem to although it is indicated. Should I wait for a miracle to happen or do I get a new battery pack?Thank you in advance.

Answer:Ideapad S100c battery problems. 'Plugged in, charging' but does not store charge.

hi CynicalTurtle,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Can you try the following:
1. Remove the battery and AC adapter
2. Press and hold the power button for 30secs
3. Insert the AC adapter and boot into WIndows
4. When the WIndows OS is loaded, slide the battery back in place and see if it takes a charge
5. If the battery still doesn't charge, try to perform a battery gauge reset as discussed in this article.

If the battery starts charge, monitor the battery health by using Passmark's BatteryMon.
If the problem persist and the battery still doesn't charge, I recommend you contact lenovo for a replacement battery.

Hope this helps

Hello. First of all, thank you for taking the time to view my post and potentially help me out. So the problem is that my laptop will not start. I was using my laptop here one day and it was working fine, but it was unable to charge for some reason and ended up shutting down so I went to bed. The next morning I tried turning it on, but it was dead. I have tried a different charger as my sister also has a lenovo laptop, but this did not work either. I would think if the battery was the problem, the laptop should still be working with the charger in? I have tried calling support line several times with no answer, the warranty has gone out and I forgot where i bought the laptop sadly. Really frustrated over here, and any help is highly appreciated!

The original adapter cord for my T61 laptop shorted and sparked right at the base of the laptop connector where the cord had apparently cracked through from too much bending.  Then the laptop worked fine on the battery until it ran out of juice.  There is no indication of power to the laptop on the replacement power adapter cord though.  I verified power at the laptop end of the replacement cord with a multi meter. I think this pretty well isolates the problem to between where the cord plugs in and where the battery power joins the circuit, right?  Would that be in the power supply?  I've read that there is not a "power supply" per se in laptops but that it is integral with the fan kit.  So should I just be ordering a replacement "Thermal device and fan (Integrated)" to fix this problem?  I see in the part list that this is marked as "not to be replaced by the customer".  Is that just a warranty statement, irrelevant outside of warranty, or should I be looking for a good repair shop? I have some experience with computer repair, but have not dealt with any repair shops in years, and have never dug into a laptop myself.  What I think I know to this point, as stated above, is based on a bit of web searching and general experience.  In reality, I'm very unsure of anything I've said regarding diagnosis or next steps.  Please advise. Thank you, James

My laptop is ThinkPad X1. Same situation. Originally was at 97% charge, once go to battery mode (AC unplug) battery immediately goes to 5% and then hibernate. Replaced 3 batteries from service center but problem still persist. Support Center keep insisting is battery problem despite 3 replacement batteries from service center! Lenovo is providing faulty batteries to customer for consecutively 3 times!? Issue has dragged for over 1 year and now Support Center says battery warranty is over and request to purchase new battery. If purchasing new battery can solve the issue, why did I need to replace the battery 3 times!? All batteries cycle counts range between 30 to 40 only. (Mostly on AC and recharge threshold is set to recharge at 33%). Lenovo batteries can only last for 3-6 months!? Despite case being escalated to "TOP MANAGEMENT", no response from Lenovo at all for over 1 week! Is this even escalating? Is this so-called "Customer Satisfaction" when satisfaction level is NEGATIVE ONE HUNDRED?

Hi,

I have a Lenovo Z50-70 running Windows 8.1. The laptop is relatively new, bought in Jan. 2015.

Some time ago, the original battery suddenly started to have a problem where it would say 45% available, plugged in, not charging. No matter what fixes I tried (after looking through a lot of articles, posts, comments, etc.), nothing made the battery start charging again. It always stays at 45%. Also the battery light/indicator on the front of the laptop is always blinking white.

So I got a new battery, put it in hoping that it would work and charge up to 100%, but the new battery is having exactly the same problem as the original old one! It will only charge up to 45%, then it says plugged in not charging. The battery light is again always blinking white.

What do I do? How can this be fixed? What's going on?

Appreciate any help. Thank you very much.

check the warranty is still active, as thats one route you could take with a relatively new laptop.

also, try uninstalling the energy management and restart the system and check for the issue. also try uninstalling the Microsoft ACPI from the device manager and restart the system and check for the issue. for more info on this action see this thread in the link:

I have a strange issue. I have a Lenovo T60 laptop and I am experiencing problems with the power management/power guage.

It will often show the battery not installed (power gauge is a greyish-white color with dashed lines) or it shows a red X. It does not matter if I am on AC power or on Battery power, it will show the full range of power, battery level, not installed, or an error.

I have searched Lenovo's site and I seem to remember seeing an FAQ about this, but now that I need it, I cannot find it.

What can I check or do to stop this? While it is annoying, I am not sure if I am having a battery problem or not. I did check my battery on Lenovo's site to see if it was recalled and it is not.

I do appreciate any help that any one can give me.

Thanks!

Hello Lenovo Forums,      It's really frustrating for me to be here and posting a problem exactly a week after I bought my laptop. So I got this thing last week and about 3 days ago it started hesitating to charge. I'm sure it was not a hardware issue because at startup it charges but after a while it stops.      I got into a conclusion that it was probably some kind of service that stops it from charging. So I uninstalled the Energy Management App but it didn't work so I just reinstalled it back. I also tried to uninstall the "Microsoft acpi-compliant control method battery" like what most people recommend but it just reinstalls and doesn't work at all. I tried disabling it but it removes the battery icon from the taskbar. I also tried removing and reinstalling the battery a couple of times which resulted into nothing.      But just today when I booted up the laptop the Lenovo Management Software shown a message saying that my battery is not genuine and they will hesitate to charge it.      I was like "W**? I just got this thing last week and touched nothing and now you're telling me my battery is not genuine?" So looked at the battery and it was LEGIT with all the legit lenovo branding and everything.      Can anybody help me fix this? Thank you

Sounds like it may be either the charger or the charging port at fault here.  However, I have a couple of questions...1. Does the battery charge increase at all if you leave the machine turned off and plugged in, or does it still report 45%?2. Does it power on when only on battery power?3. Was the new battery a new, genuine Lenovo part? There seem to be a lot of people reporting similar issues with this model unfortunately.

I apologize in advance if this is something that has been dealt with here before; I searched and couldn't find anything.  My laptop was working fine up until this morning when I woke up.  The power indicator light that is normally solid green was orange.  I turned on the computer and it worked as normal except that it was using battery power despite being plugged in.  I was able to use the laptop until the battery died. Now the power light flashes orange when the ac adapter is plugged in, and is off when the laptop is not plugged in.  I'm pretty sure it's not a battery issue, and the ac adapter itself is brand new ( I bought it just two weeks ago) and appears completely undamaged.  I know it isn't an issue with my surge protector, which is working fine for other devices. My completely un-expert, non-technical opinion is that there is an internal issue where the ac adapter connects to the laptop.  Any thoughts?

Hello, I need help here. I bought my Lenovo Y410p in July 2013 and it's been working fine till recently, when I cannot power it up. I haven't used the laptop for about 1-2 weeks and have left it plugged into the AC charger (I often use the yellow USB to charge my gadgets) without the battery inserted. Then recently I discovered that the yellow USB would not charge and I tried to turn on the laptop only to find out that it would not power up. I went online to google the problem and tried some methods (power drain method and others) but the laptop is still dead.  What should I do short of sending it for repairs? I have a lot of data in there which I'm afraid would be wiped out during repairs.  Appreciate any help and suggestions!  Thanks much!

After my friend's laptop wouldn't run on battery power OR charge the battery I tried many "fixes."

Shockingly none worked that I found.

Only one thing worked for me to my surprise.

A last ditch effort was to open up the laptop (sony pcg-81114L) and disconnect the cmos battery for a few minutes to reset the CMOS.

To my surprise, when powered on, the battery instantly showed it was charging AND when removing the power plug the battery POWERS the laptop now! (and I'd thought I was wasting my time.)

Worked with an off brand battery also.

Many times this has saved many computers that have odd "unsolvable" things wrong with them.

Surely someone else has done this also but I haven't seen it posted anywhere to my knowledge.

Thank GOD for bringing the idea to remembrance!

Hovering your mouse in the battery icon in the taskbar will show whether it is 60%  charged and not charging or 100% charged and not charging. Optimized battery health will charge your battery approximately up to 60 % while maximum battery life will charge the battery to approximately 100%. Once those approximate percentage value is reach the charging stops. Thus you will see the statement not charging. If your unit consumes more energy then those levels might drop thus you will see the statement that it is charging.

Sometimes, when the device is not plugged in directly, it doesn't get the power it needs. Holding the power button, while you restart it, clears out the temporary ram (no it won't delete anything you have saved) and will give the device access to the ram it needs.

Hello, I have recently come across these power related problems on my Lenovo Y510P: i7 Model, 8GB Ram, GT750M configuration. ---- It first began after I installed a new SSD to the system, clean install of Windows 8.1 with all latest drivers except previous version BIOS and Lenovo Energy Management. Before all of this began, the battery would not charge; I troubleshooted and fixed this issue by removing the battery and holding down the power button. Over the next few days, I began to have additional issues. When I unpluged the power adapter, the system suddenly powered off. Here is what occurs: 1. Power up system with adapter plugged in and battery attached.2. Unplug adapter3. Quickly replug adapter4. Quickly unplug adapter again.5. System powers down completely. Then, I began to notice that under "Optimized Battery Health" plan, that the power state would cycle between adapter and battery power as observed in the cycling of screen brightness and performace spikes. This only occurred if the battery charge level was above 60% but under 98%. I regularly used this energy scheme, and did not notice this behavior until very recently. ---- I reinstalled the original SSHD (same OS and driver installation methods), where these issues were not present in the past. However, both problems persisted. I upgraded both the BIOS and Lenovo Energy Management to the latest versions. Both problems still persist. ---- I would appreciate any h... Read more

Answer:how to get the power battery value in the try - the lenovo power mangment on windows 10

Hi EitanGO, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!

There is a new Lenovo Battery Gauge:

http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds105165

It also shows a summary of your system settings when you click on it.

There is at least one quirk: It disappears if you are using the TaskBar Auto-hide feature.

You can also use the smaller built-in Windows 10 battery gauge - your choice.

Tell us if that does the trick for you!

I have a Lenovo Ideapad Y570, I only recently got it. It has only been a week or so. I am currently on it now. Recently, this problem has been occurring. Whenever I start my laptop, within 2 or 3 minutes of being at the login screen, my laptop freezes, to the point where nothing will work, including the mouse, touchpad or keyboard. This only occurs when it is plugged in with the AC adapter, and no battery pack in. However, I am able to prevent this from happening only when i start my computer with the battery pack, at which point I can unplug the battery pack and plug in the AC adapter. This is a hassle though. What should I do? I haven't tried anything yet, I just wanted to get some advice on the matter before I attempted to use the one key recovery. Thanks.

My 3 year old Lenovo Y560 i5 laptop won't charge When I power it on with battery in it everything works normally, but when I plug in charger nothing happens. I checked charger and it works fine, it's output is stable 20V. When I take off the battery, and try power the laptop with charger only, LED indicators light up for half a second and nothing happened. With battery in, laptop closed and charger plugged in, battery LED indicator blinks orange, about 3 seconds on and 10 off, without charging battery even after several hours. I didn't have problem with jack for charging so far, so I think it isn't cause to a problem. I tried a trick with holding the power button for 30 seconds and it didn't work. Does anyone have similar problem or at least any idea of how to fix this issue?

My battery will not charge, at all.  The guage was obviously not correct as it would drop very quickly after reaching 20% so I updated the Power Manager to 6.07 and then performed a battery reset (I am pretty sure it was in this order, may have been the reset first). After the reset the battery charged back up to 100% but as it discharged, the charger did not come back on.  With the power in, the battery just sits at the same percentage and very slowly goes down (~1% in two days).   I tried playing with the battery maintenance settings, the meter then says that charging will begin below 80% but the battery is already on 20%.  I checked the firmware in Power Manager and with the standalone program but apparently no update is needed and the part number FRU 42T4755 is not listed as needing an update. Current firmware version: 0004-3f98-0160-0130 I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Power Manager.  The windows power manager  also seems to have the same problem. I only baught the laptop last year, it is one month out of warranty; I need it to be portable for work.I thought about buying a new battery but it seems to be the charging function that is not working, and the battery was working fine before the reset and update, apart from losing some capacity and the inaccurate meter. Product: 0578CTO    Thinkpad Edge 14 Bios: 80ET61WW (2.01) Any help would be greatly appreciated.Nathan19% an... My lenovo y410p was bought on Aug, 2013. And last year almost at the same time, I found it suddenly shut down without any sign/warning; and can never be re-boot anymore. So I have done some research and found that it may be the problem with battery. So I have been using it without the battery until now; and everything is okay until today.. Today, the same kind of problem occurs again. This time, all the things happened almost entirely like it did last year -- just the version without the battery. Pressing the power on/off button doesn't get me any sort of noise or lights. Tried unplugging the battery and AC power for a while but still not working. Also, I have tried an universal AC adapter but it did not work either.  So, is there anyone in the lonovo community has experience this before/know a fix with this? Or do I need to send it in -- which I would not like to do immediately since my warranty is just for 1 year and now it`s aleady about 2 years.. Any help/advice will be highly appreciated!

Answer:Lenovo y410p will not boot; probably problem with Power / Booting

hello.  seek confirmation that battery can cause this? Yes.  there's dead battery and there is deader than dead battery state.  can eventually heat motherboard, reset system clock, cause failure to operate.  otherwise there has been updates across the board last month for nearly everything inside the y410p including power manager; also bios.  working battery  would be a comfort during troubleshooting and may be necessary to update bios.

I just bought a manufacturer refurbished Lenovo Ideapad U430p. The description said the only problems were tiny scratches, they never mentioned the laptop would have charging problems. I have tried everything, from changing enenrgy management to shutting down the laptop and charging it that way, but I keep getting the same result, the slow blinking orange light on the side of my laptop, indicating that the laptop is charging but battery power is being discharged, making it really hard to actually charge the laptop. I plugged it in straight out of the box and it immediatley stopped charging at 5%. Thats it. Then I used it a little bit and I guess I did something because then it dropped to 4% and now I am completley hopeless because school is about to start up again and I'm not going to have a laptop. Please help! And I really don't want to have to send this laptop back so please try and think of somethings else! Also it is an internal battery. Thank you,Cavrae1 P.S. Everything says the laptop is charging. The battery meter on the bottom right hand cornor of the screen, and the energy management says charging so it's not the common charger plugged in not charging issue.

My lenovo s10 netbook, with windows 7 and XP isn't charging anymore. I thought it was because XP is no longer supported or something, but I upgraded to Windows 7 and it still doesn't work. There's an orange light on, and when I move the battery around it turns blinking blue, I thought that meant it was charging, but in Windows 7 it says no battery detected and it's not holding any charge. Hi, I had the problem where the battery didn't charge at all even if it was connected in the right way and the charger was plugged in. So I started to search internet for possible solutions. Those I found where to 1) disable alt uninstall ac and acpi adapter in Windows Device Manager. Restart computer.. Not charging problem is related to some Windows issue. 2) Choose the alternative "maximum battery life" in Lenovo Energy management.. Neither worked after several and time consuming tries... The problem here is Lenovos "smart" Energy management system that prevents the computer from charging the battery to "save it".. Solution: Uninstall Energy Management (Publisher: Lenovo) under Program and Features in Windows Control Panel and the problem is solved.. And don't reinstall this program again....

This is the problem: When I'm using my s10e it suddenly changes the energy management program. It says that the power cord is in and the netbook is charging. I was hoping that this was a BIOS error and that it would be fixed in the latest update (14cn66ww). This did not happen. Any ideas? Simply a windows error? This is quite annoying because it drains the battery quite a bit. I have to have a lot of different power plans in order to keep it up and running.  Any help is appreciated.

Answer:S10 thinks power adapter is plugged in

Try removing your battery for a few minutes before installing it again. Some users said that this helps but not sure in your case but no harm trying. Or change the Lenovo Energy Management scheme to see if it helps.

Hi All, I have a Thinkpad T520. It won't charge the battery (% charged stays at the same level) and it won't run from the battery only. If I turn off/remove AC power the computer dies immediately and it won't start up without the AC power plugged in. The battery is definitely good, it works in another computer. Is this a problem which I can fix myself? Can it be repaired? Will it be expensive? Will it require a new motherboard? It is not under warranty. Thanks, so much SV P.S. Any suggestions will need to be written in fairly simple terms, I'm no expert

Answer:Thinkpad T520 won't charge battery or run from battery power.

The problem is the charging circuit on the motherboard. It might be a fuse, but that is soldered to the motherboard, so unless you have a well-equipped repair place with a rework station (not a dealer) they cannot replace the fuse. If it isn't a fuse, it is probably a power transistor, and you are not likely to find someone to fix it. Probably, you will need a motherboard

I currently have a XPS 12-9Q33 laptop that is not charging. The light at the end of the power adapter is no longer lighting up so it appears to be faulty. I've called Dell to purchase a new adapter but was told that they no longer sell replacements for them and was recommended to buy an adapter from a 3rd party source.
I purchased a replacement with the same voltage and amperage that is supposed to work on a XPS 12. The laptop now powers on but will not charge. The BIOS states that the adapter is unknown and will not allow it to charge.
What can I do now? I find it really frustrating that I cannot get a direct replacement from Dell themselves so I'm stuck with a laptop that is not portable at all since the battery is at 0%

Answer:XPS 12 Power Adapter Faulty. Cannot charge laptop.

Third party adapters usually do not have required logic circuit to complete the batter charging loop.  It's easy to find genuine, OEM Dell adapters:

I have an X220 (which is, hands-down, the best laptop I've ever owned). My wife recently bought a T530 for herself. The power adapters appear to be roughly the same, though the T530 has a significantly larger brick. Are the two adapters compatible, or if I find myself running low on power with only her adapter available would it fry my machine?

Solved!

Answer:Charge an X220 with the power adapter of a T530?

you can use a 65, 90 and 135 watts adapter with the X220. The T530 you got have a 90 watts adapter. The adapter is designed to only supply the current (voltage is fixed) and therefore the power only as needed by the machine. It is not constantly supplying 65, 90 or 135 watts, these are the rated maximum power.

Hi guys Ive got this lenovo y570 that has a battery indicator "fully charged at 100%" that actually has no charge at all.How do i know this? because ive just had a power outtage in my city and my laptop shutdown immediately while being plugged in. Yeah. I pressed the on-button (while sutdown) again and the indicator says 100% charged when OS restarted, but yet has no charge. I already changed the management software settings and windows settings with no avail I even uplugged everything and reset the on button for 5 seconds while the computer was shutdown, restarted, and for a few minutes it said "battery plugged in, but NOT charging". Fixed it to show  "charging" but i monitored my laptop and it went from 0% to 100% charge in a matter of 2minutes, but then again the battery has no charge. I am baffled by this. Turned computer off, unplugged the adpater, tried to turn it on without any avail even though my indicator said fully charge. What the hell is going on here?

Hi, I have a lenovo ideapad u410, it is about 2 years old now, and I've been having charging problems. This started last year, where my laptop would be plugged in and down on the battery icon it would say that it's "plugged in, not charging." The battery would deplete completely, and when I try to charge it, the light would just blink. This eventually went away after about a month, I didn't do anything, and I could use my laptop again. However now it's back, at first I thought it was my charger, but I removed my battery and plugged it in and I can use my laptop without the battery. I tried to replace the battery, but it still did not charge. When I plug it in with a battery in the laptop, it will only blink a few times then stop entirely. Do I need to download any battery management drivers? I don't know what the problem is.

Answer:Lenovo ideapad u410 plugged in, not charging, battery depleted

I have my U410 Touch for 10 months now.  It always charged to 100 % but starting a couple days ago it only charged up to 90% and stoppped.  I called Technical support as I am still within warranty, they told me to perform the  the battery gauge, but it did not work.  Then they asked me to reinstall the battery driver and the energy management software but it is still not working not charging to 100%.  They now suggest to me to do one key recovey to reset to the factory setting to see if it works.  If not, they said I can send back the computer for service.  I am not sure if I should do the one key recovery becaue I will loose all my files and etc.  I am skeptical if this will work?  Any suggestion?  Should I just tell them I will send back the computer to Lenovo to fix the problem but then I will not have the computer for at least two weeks. ....

I have a T43 1875-D6U that has a power issue. I replaced the A/C input jack and purchased a new genuine battery but the system will not charge the battery. I have tested, with a multimeter, the wall outlet, the a/c power adapter, the power jack connection opening and the connection to the board, and i have tested the battery terminals at the board --- everything checks out as getting power. When i received the new battery, there was 5% battery life because the OS booted and i could see the battery indicator on the SYS tray but system would still not charge the battery. Now the battery is dead and I am back to "square one".I have disassembled this laptop 5 times now trying to troubleshoot this issue. PLEASE ADVISE! [email protected]

Hello All,
Anyone else had this problem? I bought the XPS in January. In the last month or so, I've noticed the battery doesn't hold a charge for long. Now the computer won't power on at all, even with the charger attached. I've chatted with tech support, but the only solution we could come up with is to return the machine to a service center.
Anyone know of a quicker fix? This will be the second time in 7 months I've had to send the computer to a service center. What is Dell's "lemon" policy.
Thanks,

Hi all,
There's a user who has a Latitude 7440 with Win 7 Pro. When she puts the laptop on the dock in the morning and turns it on, there's a message before Windows starts that says something like "The battery does not have enough charge to power the dock".
I checked the BIOS and it recognizes the 130w adaptor and you can see the charge level increase, it went from 20% to 23% while I was watching. I swapped out the dock and adaptor because I didn't know what else to do.
Can anyone explain what causes this or if there's a common fix? I told her to call me if it happens again and I'm not sure what the next step would be.
Thanks.

Answer:Battery does not have enough charge to power the dock?

Let's backup. The dock should have its own AC adapter and power cord and should not be using the AC adapter and power cord that shipped with the laptop. At the end of her workday, she should turn the laptop off (not any powersave modes), and plug it into its own AC adapter and power cord to charge overnight. Then when she docks, what happens?

I had this problem. It is related to Lenovo Power Management, and the electricity used by your house. You have to unnistall the Lenovo Power Management, and install the last driver.Buy an UPS (Uninterruptible power supply). I believe that's the only solution.Since I bought my computer in US, when it came to my country there were a difference between electricity, which was causing that problem. I have an UPS for all my system, especially for Y510P, and it's really rare to happen

I am having problems with a ThinkPad E530.  The battery will hold it's charge when the a/c adapter is plugged in.  I can even see a green indicator light for the power.  However, the battery icon in the taskpad is white with three black dashes and no plugged in symbol.

I saw some posts suggesting a BIOS update but you can only update the BIOS when the A/C adapter is plugged in --- and clearly my ThinkPad doesn't think it is.  I tried a Battery Gauge Reset and similarly it wants the A/C adapter plugged in.

My current workaround is to charge the battery in a different E530 when it drains down.  It is six month out of it's year warranty.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Paul

Hi there,

I've been having many a problem with my computer and gaming recently. My graphics card is a 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD4650, and I have had it roughly 2 years, along with my Vista 64bit HP DV6 1299ea Artist Edition Laptop with 4GB RAM.
It had been working fine, I could play games on high spec and play them for hours with no trouble. Then about 10 months ago, my games started freezing and I would have to manually shut down as my computer became unresponsive. Once turned off, If I tried to turn back on straight away, I would start loading and then cut out and shut itself down until I could turn it on about half hour later. I have tried aiming a fan at the underside, but I still does the same. It got so bad that within 5 minutes of playing a game it would freeze. I had my computer fans and heatsink cleaned and freed of dust by a Laptop cleaning service. I even turned the games graphics right down (PWI MMORPG), but still after about 10 minutes, It would freeze. I have recently got the The Sims 3, and wanted to play it. I have found that I can play it (on low graphic settings) without my AC adapter plugged in until my computer battery runs out - no freezing, and I can feel that it doesn't overheat and the fans are still blowing out cool air. However, If I play it for say, 20 minutes on the laptop battery, and then plug my AC adapter in and use mains power, within 30 seconds of it being plugged in, my game with freeze and become unresponsive again. I'm not too sure what ... Read more

My daughter's Yoga 2 won't power on. No lights. No boot. Totally dead. The charger works as it's been tested on another laptop and worked fine. Tried solution recommended to disconnect battery, hold the power button for 30 seconds, plug in directly and try again. Still nothing.Out of warranty Any thoughts?

Answer:Yoga 2 No Power when plugged in even w/o battery

Hi bfc1 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Best that you also try to remove the battery , harddrive , memory and press down the power button for 15 seconds to power drain while unplugged .  then connect the charger and press the Novo button if power would not show any activity.

What is the machine number from the sticker so I can get you the hardware manual for reference specific to your machine . You may also go to the support site for the manuals .

There are times that it is not always the motherboard and just DC in connector that is having the issue if not a power daugther board.  Check for any burnt marks or bulged capacitor if you have the tools or skill .

Update us how it goes.

Regards

I have this R61 which :> When run on battery alone, powers ON up till the Thinkpad Vantage screen and shuts down thereafter.> When on AC power (with battery inserted),>> only lights up the "ac power" and the battery LEDs.>> does not power ON the system using the power button.I have been told that there is an issue with the motherboard and it needs replacement however I am not sure. Can folks around here advise what could be the problem? I would like to do little troubleshooting before I pay for replacement of the whole motherboard.Thank you.K**bleep**ij
