IdeaPad Y510p battery firmware problem

Question: IdeaPad Y510p battery firmware problem

Hi, I suddenly encountered a battery problem in my laptop, IdeaPad Y510P. When I plug in a charger, the laptop shows that battery is charing but, it never goes above 7% (w/ max battery life mode). According to Energy Management, battery status is fine. After searching similar issues, I think it may be a problem with firmware, but I was not able to find a firmware update for IdeaPad series, Windows 8.1.... I have been using my laptop over a year, but never had this problem before. Can you please guide me through how to fix this issue? Thanks for your help..!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Try uninstalling the Energy Management program. Reboot then install it. You should download it first from the site if you don't have a copy of it from drivers folder.

After that reboot and install it back and see if there is a difference specially on the battery status. Also basing on your statement that the unit is with you for more than a year and you have not encountered any problem except recently it would seem that a battery replacement might be in order. Again before jumping into conclusion check the ac adapter and battery based on the procedure given in your hardware maintenance manual.

Ever since buying this laptop I've had the battery set to "optimize battery health", which keeps the level at 50%. But since last week or so I noticed the level suddenly dropped to about 38%, then 37, 36, etc, a bit everyday. It still says "plugged in and charging", but the icon doesn't have the charging animation, nor does the % go up. I called tech support earlier and he said to unplug the charger, then reinstall the Lenovo power management software. This didn't really solve the problem, in fact all it did was lower the % down to 25% now, because all this time the charger was disconnected running on battery power. I think basically the battery is not really charging even though it says it's charging, or it could be just not calibrated correctly? Anyone know what I should do, besides buy a new battery since that's the last resort? The laptop is roughly 1.5 yrs old, never had this problem until last week. I heard about the battery gauge reset method, but people warn that it could also damage the battery.

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad Y510P battery problem

hi KevinLQ,

Thanks for Posting.

Have the computer boot to the BIOS mode.
Press F2 when you turn on the computer
While in BIOs Mode unplug the AC adapter and let it Drain until it shudown on its own.

This will Drain the Battery from any charge and will count the battery as 0
Now Recharge the battery and check if it will be read by WIndows correctly.

If this shows the same problem, You can have the system Serviced via Warranty.

Hope this helps
Cheers!

Dear Lenovo, After perusing the recent 2016/2017 comments by multiple users on similar posts about Ideapad Z510 battery from across locations/countries - it appears that the firmware that you had issued last year - has somehow got overwritten / superceded maybe in either late 2016  or early 2017 by some more recent/latest updates. I am writing from India and facing the same probem that the battery is showing 100% and then going off almost immediately. This probem had fortunately got solved last year when you had issued a firmware update - but now when i am trying to use the same files again - it basically conveys that "no battery available to update" because that particular firmware is already applied on our laptop. Hence, can you please release newer firmware update for this same issue -  using a z510 system having current till-date updates for different OS - win 7 / 8 / 8.1 / 10 - same way as you have released for thinkpad series of laptops too on the weblink - http://support.lenovo.com/in/en/downloads/ds001322 Come to think of it - that if a fully working battery is being "prompted" as weak and "need to buy" - but actually is a fully functioning hardware - isnt it a bit of a letdown for your users??? - what to say of  some who might have already bought and replaced with newer replacement batteries - which is actually a completely avoidable cost? I am sure you need to resolve this issue soon so as to restore c... Read more

Hello everyone.I've a problem with my ideapad. I bought it 2 weeks ago and its battery worked perfectly. But 3 days ago, I got a Windows 8.1 update. After that, my battery % gives same number while my leptop is charging. For example, it's %37 now, when I remove my charger,, it decreases to, %35 for instance, and when I put it back on, it's going with %35 now.It never increases. What's that problem and how can I fix it?PS: I tried every power plan and every option in power management, I even download windows 8.1 power management from suppor.lenovo.com but the problem remains.

Answer:Ideapad Z-500 - Battery firmware updated but still battery not charging

hi Aledef,

If you have the Lenovo Energy Management installed, can you check the following:

1. For Windows 7:
Ensure that Maximum Battery Life is selected

For Windows 8:
Ensure that Conservation Mode is disabled.

2. Uninstall the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method under the Device Manager > Battery
   - Link to picture

When finished, reboot the machine and observe if the battery is now charing above 59%. If the problem remains, try charging the battery while the computer (about 30mins) and see if it goes pass the 59% mark.

If the problem persists, I recommend you contact lenovo on how to go about getting a replacement battery.

Answer:Ideapad Y510p 170W battery

hi MrDanV8,

IMO, it's fine to use the 170W adapter even if you don't have the secondary graphics adapter inserted (via ultrabay) as the machine will not fully utilize all that power.

If you have the GT750m working on full load, the system will most likely use approx.120W only (the GT750m has a 50W TDP) --the remaining power will then act as a reserve.

Is there any steps needed while performing this Upgrade? Is it safe? I started using the laptop on May 8, 2013. Thanks..

Hello everyone, I've had myY510P SLI for about 6 months now and I mainly use it on a desk so I rarely use my battery in it unless I am traveling. I never had any issues with the battery until last night. I decided to put the battery in, but I noticed that Windows said "plugged in, not charging" and showed a blank battery. It didn't report battery statistics or anything. I tried messing around with Lenovo Energy Management but that didn't do anything. The battery status indicator LED has also been flashing red non-stop. This would be a huge dissapointment to me if I need to replace the battery that has less than 30 charge cycles on it. But I'd rather it be a battery issue than a problem with the motherboard. My Y510p has a i7 4700MQ, 750M SLI, 16GB RAM, 1TB HDD  and is running Windows 8.1 with mostly all bloatware removed. I even tried the method where you start up with no battery and uninstall it from the Device Manager and resetting the BIOS. Both didn't do anything for me. All help is appreciated, thank you!

I have a lenovo ideapad y510p and everything was fine until for I thought I'd do the battery reset in the lenovo energy management,at first the battery was dead and laptop wouldnt turn on,,I found one way around this which is that first I take the battery out and then insert the ac adapter, the laptop turns on then I put it in hibernate while I insert battery after which it seems to charge but only after I do these steps, but if I take the adapter out and insert it back in,it would stop charging.this is all because of the lenovo energy management software battery reset.I've uninstalled it but it doesnt work.any suggestions?I'm guessing one of the steps after full charge during the battery reset the battery gets drained where it says "plugged in and not charging" until it reaches zero is the problem.

Hey! I recently bought an Ideapad Y510P from an American seller on eBay, despite myself being located in Australia.  My issue is that, my battery will not charge unless I insert the battery, while my laptop is booting up. So basically it won't charge if:I power on my laptop with the battery insertedIf I remove and reconnect the charger adapter while it's runningI'm not too sure why it is doing this, all I really know, is that is started after I ran a battery calibration using Lenovo Energy Management.  I've contacted Lenovo Australia, but they said that they can't assist me because the laptop was manufactured in the United States, so they keep directing me to the Lenovo US technical support.BUT I've called the technical support in the United States about 3 times now. Two of which resulted in the technical support officer ending the call abruptly. I also called Lenovo Indonesia, and I got hung up on again. I'm not a mean person at all, nor am I showing any impatience/anger. So I'm a little annoyed about that. The first guy who help me from the United States, told me to remove Lenovo Energy Management and he told me to also uninstall an ACPI battery in the Device manager. None of which actually helped But at least he tried to help me! I really want this fixed because I need my laptop to complete Uni coursework.  I'm also in love with it . I had this problem. It is related to Lenovo Power Management, and the electricity used by your house. You have to unnistall the Lenovo Power Management, and install the last driver.Buy an UPS (Uninterruptible power supply). I believe that's the only solution.Since I bought my computer in US, when it came to my country there were a difference between electricity, which was causing that problem. I have an UPS for all my system, especially for Y510P, and it's really rare to happen

Hi i have theEdge11 K3252545-A12 modelwith Battery 57wh model no : 42T4897 The Battery Monitor showing only 47.5wh overall capacity. This seems to be the same problem like the edge13 series. For these devices there is a battery firmware update but not for my battery.Again i know that batterys are getting worse after cycles but this seems to be bug because:1) the battery is 2 weeks old2) the battery shows in the energy manager as 47wh battery and not 57 battery. So the battery manager says "good" and no battery wastage.  Does Lenovo provide the upgrade also for my device and battery? see the links: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-75738 http://www.lenovoblogs.com/connections/2010/08/update-bios-and-battery-firmware-to-ensure-full-charg...

Answer:Solved: Edge 11 AMD K325 - Battery Problem need Battery Firmware update?

Hello mate, You don't have a problem with your battery. My T510 indicates the same with a 57wh. Under average usage patterns your ThinkPad battery maintains approximately 70% of its power capacity for the first year of operation. Average usage is defined as the number of recharge cycles. A cycle is defined as each time the battery discharges a total of 85% or more and is recharged it counts as one cycle.

This is based on your staement that it is a memory problem. For the question, determine you processor model number and look it up (specs) in Intels website. You should see among other specs the type of memory to be use (whether DDR3L or DDR3) for a proper match. Update: Here's how to run the diagnostics: Just click the encircled option shown after typing memory in the search box.  Assuming you have I7-4700MQ this will be the result in Intel's website:  From this the answer to your question is NO, you can't use DDR3. You can only use DDR3L 1333 or 1600 Dual channel No ECC support memory module.

I got my Lenovo y510p 2-3 months ago and as of a couple days ago it has had a problem. While playing a game my computer has just completely shut off for no apparent reason and doesn't like to turn on. The first time this happened I thought it died but after about 30 minutes it just turned back on after trying to find solutions online. When this happens my adapter makes this weird chirping noise while plugged in to my computer. I'm posting this because it happened again about an hour ago while I was playing the same game. It just now turned back on after about an hour of trying to figure out the problem. I got it to turn back on by taking out the battery and holding it down for about 15 seconds then I plugged in the adapter and turned it on without the battery in. I'm not really sure why my computer is doing this. Has anyone else had a problem like this? I'm starting to wonder if it might be happening because of the game I'm playing because it's never happened playing other games or just using the computer to browse the web.

Hi guys, I have recently bought an Ideapad Y510P and I am trying to use my smartphone (OnePlus One) and my bluetooth headset (Philips SHB4000) with my laptop, but I experience some issues. The best result I reached was pairing both devices with the laptop, but I was never able to connect either of them. During the pairing, they were both recognized correctly and drivers were installed, for except one or two drivers per devices, which were labeled something like "Bluetooth periferal device". I tried installing various drivers for my bluetooth radios in any combinations but it was of no use. I also tried using additional software, but it didn't integrate good with my system. I tried rebooting, restarting the bluetooth device and all those similar easy solutions, but none worked. I am really frustrated.I am using WIndows 7 (which as I read through the internet I think has some issues with the mentioned devices) Does this issue sound like I am missing something or this could be a hardware compatibility issue? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance! Regards,Martin Doychev

I am not sure but I am guessing that FastWeb is an Internet service provider. So, what issue are you getting? - Are you able to see the Wifi?- Are you able to connect to your Wifi?- Could you post a screenshot of your "Network and Sharing Center". For that go into "Control Panel" and select the option.

I am having this same problem with my Y510P. I thought for sure for as much as I paid for this laptop that it would have a decent webcam. I was wrong. It is not just the quality that is getting on my nerves though.

Whenever I try and start/restart the laptop, I have the option of using the webcam as a facial ID/login. However, the camera blinks between the "camera" and "camera not found". This camera is built into the laptop, how is it not finding the camera!? I have to restart the laptop multiple times in order for it to find the camera, and then like the person before me said, the quality is bad. This is something you guys need to fix. I'm not sure if they had a sale at Toy's R Us, so you thought you would save money on cameras or what the deal is. My eight year old cell phone has a better camera, and the phone doesn't seem to "lose" it.

My laptop is only just over a year old too.

My speakers were working fine, then I stepped away from my computer and neither is working now. The headphone jack works. But the left speaker just makes a popping noise. I've uninstalled and then reinstalled the drivers, but that did not fix the issue. I just bought this laptop a little over a month ago, so I'll be really disappointed if this is a hardware issue.

Hello, so my problem is that I experiencing lag/stuttering while playing games, I know that some sli cards have this problem but this laptop should run this game smoothly. The game runs at 30-35 fps on high settings but its unplayeble because of the stuttering :/  As you can see here...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCGeLDzSr7Y&list=UUh-ND5iwCVA8Fh8RSsRViDQ So i tried reinstalling the drivers, and the os, but nothing works. So if you have a solution pls write it down. Thanks

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad Y510p Performance problem

first off, that video doen't show anything horrible.. that seems like typical lag from a game if not even doesn't show your stutter problem at all..  SO, if and ONLY IF this is not related to the game needing an update or your drivers need an update.. your next step is below: (only do this if you have determined through research -like googling other people playign the same game you have with good results) etc..   -i have a y410p.. and i went through you don't even wanna know to figure out how to get this machine to work properly.. I will leave you with this secret info.. - I can guarantee it's probably thermal throttling/heat issues.. if you haven't already seen all the posts already here! if you were like me, and didn't research enough before you chose this machine, you would have seen the million posts on how performance is crap on these machines because of heat.. the fan's don't cool.. the whole thing runs too hot.. the thermal paste is crap and you need to repaste it... yourself probably.. yeah it gets worse.. lenovo also "hard-coded" the cooling system in your machine.. so you can't even force the fan to run full speed.. the solution?? yeah .. ready for this?? 1. sell machine.. buy asus gaming machine.. ha.. 2. if you are hell-bent to keep your restricted/constricted machine then start getting A.)intel extreme utility and you will have to extremely google and research undervolting.. to help with heat i... I bought a Lenovo ideapad y510p notebook with SLI 750m graphics approximately 2 weeks ago. The first thing I did was remove the excess of bloatware that the laptop shipped with, and have overall had a very positive experience with the machine. Recently, I noticed that if I allow my laptop to idle, it will enter sleep mode quite quickly. I have tried ajusting the Power Options in the windows control panel to allow the computer to remain awake for as long as an hour plugged in, and 15 mins on battery, but the laptop still goes to sleep after being idle for only 60 seconds. In troubleshooting, I have tried re-downloading the energy management utility that the laptop shipped with, but still, it enters sleep mode in about 60 seconds. I have also tried updating my video drivers, but my computer is telling me that they are currently up to date. I am not sure what else I should try, but if any one else has a suggestion, I would be happy to give it a try. Thanks in advance,Jason Sheets

I have a brand new Y510P, and ever since updating to Windows 8.1 (which was a terrible mistake due to the **bleep** display resolution bug for 1080p monitors), the "Intel Display Driver" has had a yellow exclamation mark over it in Device Manager. I tried reinstalling it with the following steps:- Right click it in device manager- Uninstall- Action -> Add legacy hardware- Install Intel WiDi Audio DeviceAfter that it still has a exclamation mark. In its properties it has "This device cannot start (code 10) : STATUS_DEVICE_POWER_FAILURE"I'm guessing this is causing the random BSoD's (with error DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE)  that I've been having whenever I wake my computer up from hibernate/sleep. Already disabled "enable quick start" in power settings by the way. From my knowledge this driver is mainly for connecting to TVs w/ HDMI or something? Can anyone tell me how to fix this? Is this driver not supposed to work with Windows 8.1 or something?

Answer:Ideapad Y510P Intel Display Audio problem

hi windbrand,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Can you try under Device Manager
Uninstall the Intel Display Driver and place a check if prompted by "Delete driver software for this device"
After uninstallation try to download and install the following driver
Intel Video Driver for 64-bit Windows

Restart the system and check.

Screen corruption like that is usually a sign of a overheating GPU. Run GPUz in the background and log your temps while gaming and see what you get.

I´m running win 8.1 64bit Enterprise edition on IdeaPad y510p with i7 and 8 GB RAM. When i run more than one instance of the Archicad which opens each instance in new thread (not like opening in new tab, but like opening in new window) first instance starts eating memory like crazy. You can see easily in task manager that eats up 200 MB in 1 second. This goes until runs out of memory and gets completely unusable. If you manage to close any of instances and leave just one everything eventually gets back to normal again. As I need to open more than one instance of Archicad due the copy paste sequence (software does not use clipboard by copying the data itself but only copies the link to data you need so I need all the instances opened in the same time).Archicad 18 is compatible with win 8.1Anyone out there ?????

Answer:IdeaPad y510p memory problem with 2 or more instances of same program opened

hi JebiseJebise,

Welcome to the Forums.

From your description, it seems like there's a memory leak going on (not sure if it's with the OS or with the software)  when you open 2 ore more instances of Archichad.

Just to check, have you tried running:
1. Windows Update to get the latest patch and bug fixes for Win8.1?
2. Archichad's built-in System Update to get the latest hot fixes for the software?

Hello everyone! My 2 day old Lenovo Y510P laptop has a problem with charging. I noticed the battery was never going above 60% charged. I left it plugged in for over 24 hours and nothing changed. So I decided to completely drain the battery and used the laptop until it died. With the laptop off I left it plugged in until the battery LED turned white which indicates the battery is fully charged.  Unfortunately the battery still shows 60% charged. What am I missing here? I know some smartphones need to be calibrated etc but no idea what to do wit ha laptop. Thanks for your help.

Hey bro, I had the same problem with my y500 when it first arrived, but its an easy solution. All you need to do is open up the energy management program from lenovo. It should have an icon in the desktop taskbar. The go to you battery settings and switch it from "Optimized Battery Health" to "Maximum Battery Life" and that should do the trick!

I upgraded from windows 8 to windows 10 about a month ago, everything has been pretty much running fine until 2 days ago when I noticed that the orange light is on as if my battery is constantly charging but at a low level. I looked at my battery charge level and it is at 32% and says "05 minutes until full charge" it stays like this forever now. If I unplug the AC power, it powers down really fast as if the battery was only at about 32%. I have read on other forums about reinstalling energy management, unplugging the power and battery then holding down the power button for 30/40 seconds...  but this did not work for me. Some one please help. Thank you! Jamie

Yeasterday day I performed Battery gauge reset. After full discharge of battery my laptop turned off. I was unable to turn on. I removed battery, DVD room etc after doing many things don't know how I was able to turn on the laptop.  From today I am facing another problem. When I switch the Battery mode from Maximum to Optimize or vice versa my Laptop stops charging the battery and Laptop is turning off after discharge of full battery. I do same things after doing these things many time I become able to turn on laptop back. Now again my laptop is not charging battery because I changed the mode. Any Idea how to fix this issue? Is there any easy way to enable charging and disable charging? Like Dell utility? My OS details.: Windows 8.1 Pro

Hi, I just bought this cool and awesome laptop, but there are certain problems that keep bugging me. One of them is the battery, my laptop seems to need to be connected to the power source in order to work. The battery still have some juice, I checked it already but even when the laptop is connected to the battery, if I take out the power source the laptop will swtich off immediately! I would like to know whether this is a hardware or softfare problem, and is there any way I can do to rectify this problem? Thank you!

Answer:Lenovo y510p battery problem

try booting into safe mode then from there unplug your laptop and see if it shuts down again if so then battery needs a re-calibration :/ since laptop thinks your battery 0% is 100% instead of 0% when empty so when that happens leave laptop off for a while or unplug everything and hold down power switch when you got battery taken out and the AC cable that will then reset bios memory settings then connected everything and power laptop on again and then see if it will begin to re-charge your battery if it does then it has detected that your battery wasnt 100% after all so it's charging it again to re-fill it

I see a few threads here, but I'm not sure my problem is exactly the same. Laptop is less than 2 months old. Ran it on battery for a few hours yesterday, got down to 8% and plugged it in. Never gets above 8%. As far as I know this is similar to others, what I haven't noticed in the discussion boards is... When I first plug it into the charger the battery in the icon tray shows a charging cycle... going from an empty battery icon to filling up to full to empty to filling, etc... It does this for about a minute then stops. SHOULD THIS ANIMATED ICON BEHAVIOR CONTINUE UNTIL CHARGED? When I mouse over the battery icon it says 8% and charging, but it's not. I'm running Windows 7 (I swapped out the original hard drive with a new one and installed Win7 on that new drive). Any help? Thanks! Mike

Answer:yet another y510p battery charge problem

Not sure what you've tried so far, but it couldn't hurt to go the road already travelled:  https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-and-U-series-Laptops/Y510P-Battery-stuck-on-charging-at-a-cer... Worst case scenario, you're out maybe an hour's worth of work. Best case it might fix everything. In either case, there's nothing in those instructions that should harm your PC, so you've got nothing to lose but a little time. And like the article says, if in doubt you can always grab support. It could be a bad connection somewhere around the battery and the motherboard, a bad battery, or just the way everything seats. Every PC does get a power on test before its shipped, but nothing can really prepare a PC for protracted use other than... well, protracted use.  Hope that helps!

Seems like internal battery memory was corrupted due to flashing interruption.
I assumed the root cause is internal software error.

I've tried the same on Windows 7/8/XP with all LnvBFU revisions (from v1.2 till v1.15) without any success.

But LnvBFU.exe still recognizes the battery, it still able to start flashing.
And I still have hope to install battery software correctly.

Dear Lenovo experts:
1. Please provide steps to correct this error.
2. Please advise how can I get logs of LnvBFU to figure out what's wrong.
3. Please fix this issue in the next LnvBFU revision.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Battery Firmware Update has killed Brand New E420 battery

Hi, I have a comparable problem over here. Got a brand new Lenovo Yoga 260 three weeks ago, worked completely fine until last wednesday. Processed some lenovo updates including Lenovo Solution Centre and Power Management and now my battery is dead. Everytime i turn on my Yoga 260 i get a battery error message after a few minutes that says the battery is not charging and it should be replaced due to a bad condition. When i open up Lenovo Settings and search for energymanagement it displays the same message telling me the battery is defect due to normal wear and it should be replaced. My problem is that the battery worked completely fine until the moment i installed some Lenovo software updates. I hope lenovo support can provide steps to correct this error instead of forcing me to return it and wait 2 -3 weeks. Thanks in advance.

Hello,I have come across two noisy problems recently on my laptop which is 1 year old. The first problem is when I try to charge the battery, it never reaches 100%, it just reaches 99% and stops even if I let the AC plugged in to charge more. The second problem is when the battery reaches the area between 50-56%, it suddenly drops to 6%. No idea why.  Any ideas? Oh, and I have windows 10 64bitt.

I have a ThinkPad Edge 520, which I purchased with the higher capacity battery (42T4710). Recently when attempting to update the battery firmware, using the LenovoBatteryFirmwareUpdate  v1.13 it detects new firmware for the battery: Identifies the firmware: But then fails: Upon restarting the computer I get informed that the battery is invalid and will not be charged by the laptop. I have tried numerous combinations of updates (BIOS, power management driver, etc.), without any effect. Prior to this attempted update the battery worked fine. Appreciate any assistance.

I am not able to power my S300 laptop with a fully charged battery. Initially I thought it was the battery issue and hence bought a new one. The Energy Management said that the status of the new battery is good and the new battery has been fully charged. Everytime running on battery, the laptop will power up for about 5 seconds and then switch off. Anyone has the similar issue? How do you resolve? Called the technical helpdesk but they are not very helpful. Always asked me to carry in my laptop for analysis. I do not think it is hardware issue. What is the point of setting up technical helpdesk for call-in but always advice user to bring in the laptop to service centre. Might as well install an automated machine to repeat the message of asking user to carry in their laptop to service centre.

Hi

Welcome to the community.

As per your concern battery is not charging properly. I would suggest you to please update the Power Manager software from the below mentioned web link.

http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/cagt32ww.exe

After that please perform the Gauge Reset, to do so:

1.Open Lenovo Energy Management
2.Click on the bottom gear icon between i and ?.
3.Under Battery Health, Click on Start for Battery Gauge Reset.
4.That should refresh the gauge and let the system finish through the cycle.
5. Please do not close the system while performing, it will take more time to complete it.

Regards,
Sameer

The battery problem started happening just yesterday. On Monday I turned on the computer with no problem whatsoever, without the AC adapter plugged in, so it ran on the battery. Now whenever I turn it on without the AC adapter, the computer shuts down instantly. The battery status indicator is always blinking orange even though on my screen it's frozen at 70% and it's "plugged in but nor charging." I have tried different methods to fix this problem but I cannot figure out what it is. I can't go anywhere with my recently bought laptop (about 4 months) without my AC adapter right next to me! Help!  PS. I have also let it sit and charge overnight while the computer was off, but it still didn't fix the problem.

Answer:Ideapad S400 Battery Problem

hi Ranjan07,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

On Lenovo sites it also says 5hrs battery life, but this is an idle mode which means no application running and minimal brightness.

Windows is calculating your remaining battery hours of usage by checking your current  discharge rate vs. The remaining charge.

You can use Passmark Batterymon to check the discharge rate, high discharge rate is caused applications / Background applications / services and power settings like brightness and wireless/Bluetooth.
On my lab PC here, discharge rate is around 15884mW so If we have the same discharge rate and battery charge of full 32000mW It will only last for about 2hrs.

My system is running on Windows 8 and I tried looking around seemed that there are steps to lower down the discharge rate by adjusting some settings like this on this Post
http://www.friedbeef.com/top-15-ways-to-extend-your-laptop-battery-life/

You can also fully charge your battery and see if the full charge will count as 32000mW, If it is nowhere cose to that then that definitely is a defective battery.

But still if the computer is already on minimal usage lower power settings, still your getting 1.5 to 2 hours,

You can always contact Lenovo Technical support for assistance.

Best Regards

Hello. I recently received a Lenovo IdeaPad S415 Touch series from work, and noticed an issue with the battery.I have the original battery installed, and with A/C Adapter connected, but it states "Plugged in but Not Charging".I always had the laptop connected to AC when using it, but over the past 2 months, I noticed the percentage of battery life lowering; Today there is no percentage of my battery. If I disconnect the A/C adapater, my laptop shuts down for no power. I tried looking into ways to rectify this myself, but was unsuccessful.I already tried to Disable and even Uninstall the 'Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method' but with no success. My laptop came pre-installed with Windows 8 (and since has been updated to Windows 8.1)It looks like the battery Model is 'L12S4Z01'As stated, this is the battery that came pre-installed with the laptop when I received it a few months ago. Looking for any tips or advice to help resolve this, so if I needed to move around, I don't have to go through the hassle of shutting down and re-starting every move. Thank you.

Answer:IdeaPad S415 Battery Problem

Alsah,

Could you check settings in the energy manage to see if the battery is configured for lifespan mode?  I don't have an S415 to note the settings but this comes up on different systems in the forum.  See this KB for example

It could also be that there is a problem with your battery or the firmware on it.

I would check the settings in Energy manager and if it still won't charge, contact service.

Best regards,

Mark

Hello everybody, Last week I installed Windows 10 64bit on my laptop (Ideapad z510). The first time my laptop suddenly powered off, but the battery was far from empty according to windows. When I tried to boot again it appeared that the battery was empty. I have noticed that the percentage that windows reports is incorrect. After 2 hours without power my battery was normally around 30%. Now it was still above 90%. I have power manager installed and I am using the balanced profile. Does anybody have an idea what could be wrong?

Answer:Ideapad Z510 battery problem

Hi niels194,

Thanks for Posting!

Try resetting the Battery gauge meter.
Turn OFF the computer and unplug the AC adapter.
Press the Novo or OKR Button to boot up with options.
Select Set up utility or Enter Setup
You should arrive at a page like this

Now Stay on this screen without the AC adapter plugged in until the computer shuts off itself due to power loss.
This will drain the battery to zero (May take couple of hours)

Now Plug in the AC and charge it till 100% and it should be good to go.

Regards

Answer:IDEAPAD Z510 BATTERY PROBLEM

In response to customer reports of unexpected issues with battery performance on Z500 and Z510 laptops, Lenovo is making a battery firmware update available via download from the Lenovo Forums.

This battery firmware is intended to resolve the following unexpected charging symptoms when a Z500 or Z510 laptop is powered on:

Battery is dead
Battery is not detected
Battery is detected and charged to 100% but when AC power is removed, the laptop immediately powers off
When the battery is fully charged and AC power is removed, battery level falls dramatically within 10 minutes

Please note a step-by-step procedure for upgrading the firmware is included in the .zip file, found in the "ReadMe" folder.

The battery firmware update can be downloaded here: https://download.lenovo.com/lenovo/content/sm/z500_z510_battery_firmware_update.zip

Hi Everyone, I really need some advice and assistance here.I purchased a Lenovo Y560 off Amazon at the end of December 2010. I've had to change the battery twice already as the battery keeps depleating rapidly 1.5 months after the new battery is received. I've updated all the drivers (including the latest BIOS) but this doesn't seem to be working. The battery now lasts half an hour under normal use like web surfing although it's only a few months old at a 80% charge. Here is the laptop specs:http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0040X4NT2/ref=oss_productI am using the Lenovo Energy Management program to keep the screen display at a low level. I only use this laptop for internet browsing and Microsoft applications - that is all. No gaming, etc. It's set to the 80% battery life rate (the battery charges to 80%) to increase the lifespan of the battery (as per Lenovo's suggestions). It's also on Super Energy Saver. I'm using all the energy saving options to it's fullest and not running it in a high power state.I changed the battery twice already and only charge it when it gets to 5%. I never leave it plugged in over it's time. The battery would work well for 1.5 months, then it would begin to only last for 30 minutes at a time. I've noticed that when I have plugged in an HDMI cord into my laptop to my TV a few times to watch a movie off Netflix, a few weeks after, is when the battery starts to act up.Can anyone please offer some suggestions here?  Am I doing anything wrong? An... My Ideapad U260 is 2 years old. Bought new in June 2012 and used mainly as desktop. A couple of weeks ago it stopped charging fully (stayed at 80% tops). A couple of days after I unplugged it for about an hour and when I replugged it the battery icon was showing "0% left, plugged but not charging". It has been like this ever since.I tried buying a new battery but not many companies including Lenovo seem to have it. Except lvbattery.net whose internet site was showing that they had it in stock. I bought it, they got paid 1 month ago and I have not received the battery yet.I previously had a Compaq and a Dell laptop who both went 6 years of the same usage before the battery died.Questions:1. Is it normal that the battery died after 2 years of normal use and not to be able to buy one from Lenovo?2. Was there a recall on that battery (57Y6601 or L09M4P16)?3. Would a Bios update (a solution proposed by a local shop) fix the problem?Thank you for your help.

Just want to report this problem, I had my Y560 two years ago and I really like it. But I suspect there is a problem with the battery. My battery was detected to have a problem twice in 2 years! First time, it was replaced by a refreshed one, then a year later, same problem came again when my battery warranty expired.  I suggest lenovo take a serious check on this kind of battery.

I have been using a Lenovo Ideapad Z570 since Sept?11. Since I use it with power supply from the mains at most times, I choose the ?best battery health? option of the Energy Management tool that comes with the drivers CD. This limits the battery charge to 50% which is the better option for ensuring a longer battery lifetime. But two days back I faced something unusual that had never happened before. That is regardless of whichever option I choose (?best battery health? or ?optimize for battery runtime?), running on a 95% charged battery without AC power supply results in the charge going down gradually from 95% down to somewhere around 50% to 40% (As expected), but once the charge goes below 50%, 45% or 40%, suddenly the charge goes down to 7% in a second with a warning message asking to turn on the mains power supply or else it will shut down. Now the problem is that ?on running the laptop on battery it gives a backup from any maximum point (say 70%, 80%, 90% charge etc), only down to 50%, 45% and 40%, whereas the battery should have given further backup below 50%, 45% and 40% and further down (which I m not getting)?. Please help me in this regard

Hi All, I have a concern regarding my Z400 idepad laptop. I bought it last February 16, 2014 and just today I noticed thst even after my laptops battery is charged, when I hover over my mouse to it, it would say 7 hours then after a couple of minutes, if I hover my mouse over to the battery icon again, it will already say 4 hours, then again after a few minutes if I would be checking on it would say 2 hours then again, after a few minutes it will now say 3 hours. It seems that it's not displaying the correct battery time. What can be causing this or what can I do to have the battery icon display the right number of hours that my laptop can be used? I know that brightness affects the battery usage coz my brightness is set to full though it's strange to have the battery icon display incorrect number of hours every after 5 minutes if i will check it. please leneove community, i would need all the help I can get and would appreciate your response to this. thank you! Oreo

I currently own a Lenovo IdeaPad Y530.  Beginning recently, when I plug the system into an electrical outlet, the blue battery indicator light at the front of the system comes on but immediately goes back off.  The light normally stays on until the computer is shut down.  In addition, the battery indicator icon located at right side bottom of the screen consistently indicates that the system is "plugged in, not charging" although the power level has dropped below the point where the system used to recharge the battery automatically.  Is the problem a bad battery or something else?  Thank you for any help you can render.

Hello all, I have been using a Lenovo IP s300 for about three years. The battery was in good shape, about 95% of its original capacity. Some months ago I was using the notebook connected to TV so it was stationary for about a month. I know that the battery is harmed by being plugged all the time on a charger so I decided to charge it to storage capacity of 60% and take it out, placed it behind the PC on a shelf. Then I needed my computer mobile again so I plugged the battery back in but it didn't start at all. I tried to charge it with no results. Windows show blank space in the battery icon, stating that he AC is plugged in, not charging. Notebook LEDs indicate that it is fully charged. Tried to let it hang in bios, plugged in over night and all the common fixes. Any ideas on how to solve this? It seems unlikely to me that a battery dies just like that. Thank you.

Hello, I have a Lenovo IdeaPad S205, and have run into some trouble. The charger recently stopped working properly, and I bought a replacement - the original charger has an output of 20V, whereas the replacement has an output of 19V. However, I wouldn't think this would make a difference. This said, when I plugged in the new charger, it said "plugged in, not charging". I took the battery out, and put it back in again, as I have had a similar trouble before, and doing this fixed it. The system stayed running while the battery was out, and I've noticed the battery percentage is not going down while this replacement is plugged in. Also, the original now seems to do the same - "plugged in, not charging". Can anyone offer any assistance?

Answer:IdeaPad S205 Battery Not Charging problem

hi Ben_R,

Welcome to the Forums.

Just to verify, does the "plugged in, not charging" stops around 60%? If it is, check the Lenovo Energy Management and toggle the Power Plan from Balanced to High Performance (vice versa) and from Maximum Battery Life to Optimized Battery Health then reboot the PC.

dear sir, my name is nikhil in my laptop z510 ideapad i am facing battery problem it is not showing correct battery % and also not show batterey low warning message and it is stable at one position 99% please sir help me out from this problem .many of them his having this same problem please give some battery firmware update so to resolve this problem.it is not a hardware problem because it started from two days before previously it is working fine but now it is not working          I purchased the z510 last  july and while the battery life wasn't great on it now it has stopped working altogether. I have tried every conceivable fix for it from the forums here and none has worked. The problem that I am having is that the battery is stuck at 99% while charging and when it is off charge it will stay on for half an hour and the shut off hard without warning, it has caused me to lose progress in work. The battery gauge reset is no longer working either as it was on for hours and just kept showing 99%. I would appreciate a response back. This seems to be a problem with this make of laptop as far as Ican see.

lenovo ideapad y580 battery problem.

Had it for just over a month.

Battery will not charge if I play ANY video game varying from chess, hearts to wow. However if I am browsing the internet it charges just fine.

When I remove the battery and start it up it, everything works including the internet however as soon as I go to start any game it instantly dies due to no power.

Answer:lenovo ideapad P580 battery problem

I thought I should give a little more info When I play ANY game, the charging icon with flash on and off several times and after about 20 seconds the charging icon will go off and never come back, until I quit the game. Really disappointed that I am going to return this product. If it keeps doing this.

hi kowsihan.i believe there's only one way to increase the battery life, which is replacing it with new one.warranty conditions may change by country but i suggest you to contact lenovo support first, they may replace the battery.otherwise, you will need to buy new one.hope this helps.

Answer:ideapad s510P Battery Indicator problem

Hi  amy_t92,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

As per the query we understood that you are facing the issue with the battery indication is incorrect in your lenovo s510p laptop.

As per the specification the battery supports up to 5 hours, try to reinstall the energy management and check for the issue.
