Lenovo Y500 OneKey Recovery partition damage + Windows 8.1 doesn't boot

Question: Lenovo Y500 OneKey Recovery partition damage + Windows 8.1 doesn't boot

Hello all, I'm new here so I need help with my laptop. I just bought this laptop last year and this few days, I can't seem to boot it. The windows boot manager is not booting giving me two errors, one is error code 0xc0000034 and another error code is 0xc0000185. I tried using the OneKey Recovery to do system restore but it says the partition has been damaged and cannot be restored. I did not do any partitioning to the hard drive besides the default C: and D: drives. I also tried using windows 8.1 USB drive (since the laptop doess not have ROM installed) to repair the window, but it doesn't work. I can't reset it nor refresh it nor system recovery. I don't understand what is wrong with my laptop. Can someone please help me and guide me on what should I do?

Preferred Solution: Lenovo Y500 OneKey Recovery partition damage + Windows 8.1 doesn't boot

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am trying to restore my Lenovo G770 to its original state (factory settings). I tried to use the System Recovery option from the OneKey Recovery menu (which is the same as reaching it whilst booting the computer), but what that does is it restarts the computer a few times and keeps it exactly how it was before trying to do so. I also tried making the CDs by choosing Create Recovery Disc from the OneKey Recovery menu but I am given a message which says: This program cannot find the initial backup image. This function is currently unavailable. After looking at different threads, I realized it was because I resized the C: partition of the hard disk. Initially, when I first bought my laptop, the hard drive had 4 partitions by default which are of the following (My hard drive size came as 750GB): 1. The System Reserved 100MB partition (which is hidden and obviously in every computer by default). 2. The C: Drive partition (I don't know how big it was)3. The D: Drive partition (Again, I don't know how big this was)4. Finally, the OEM Reserved (Lenovo) 14.5GB partition (which is where all the recovery files are kept)  Now, I didn't mess with the OEM Reserved partition at all, but what I did was I deleted the D: drive and made the C: Drive bigger, so that I can use my space more efficiently. Again, the problem is probably caused because of resizing the C: partition.  My question is: How can I make it so that ... Read more

Answer:Lenovo G770: OneKey Recovery doesn't work because of resizing the C: partition?

Hi za1407 and welcome to the community,

When you deleted D: you deleted the drivers and applications that OneKey needs to restore to factory specs.  There were also hidden files on there it also needed.

At this point, just resizing the partitions isn't going to make OneKey work.

The only way to get it back to factory is to get yourself a set of restore discs.  This will resize the partitions and put everything back the way it was.

Here's a thread where we were experimenting with the partitions.

Hey guys, I am having little trouble here I bought Ideapad Lenovo Y500 came with Windows 8 x64, and I found some problems like when I plug in any headset to audio jack, I can hear a small static noise even when speakers are muted, It is not microphone listening and I can also hear the small static noise on my headset when I turn on my laptop, So I tried downgrading to Windows 7 and It is still doing same thing as static noise on my headset, Tried different headset still same and It is perfectly fine no static noise when I unplugged my headset. Now I can't use onekey recovery anymore. It just doesn't work. Any Help? Thanks

Did you install Windows 7 from a CD? The One-Key recovery partition may have been deleted when you installed Windows 7.

Hi, I didnt know what i did, but when i installed this thing. and rebooted my whole windows 8 was gone. When my system booted up, the was this message saying "Checking Media" Then it would give me 2 choices (Ipv4................. and ipv6..............................) I tried both of them but none of them worked. Then i shutted the computer down and launched one key recovery. I did not do a backup, because i assumed that this computer wouldnt get a virus, (i dont know what it was), so my only choice was Lenovo's OneKey Recovery, "Initial Backup". I just wanted to know what is "Initial Backup" Is it something that temporary gives you windows 8? or does your whole windows 8 come back?

Answer:Windows 8 Corrupted. OneKey Recovery- Initial Recovery (Y500)

Dear Hero1237394

Welcome to Lenovo forums

kindly be informed that the onekey recovery is a preloaded software that enables you to take the machine back to the factory settingso once you do the recovery the machien will be as good as new but their is some conditions1-all datat on the c partion will be lost2-the native operating system must be still on the machine3-no HDD formate or resizing was done.

check the recovery and get back to me for more info

Hello. I apologize if this question has been asked before, but I read everything I could find on partitions and onekey recovery but I still do not understand the concept. I have a few questions for you.I purchased Lenovo Yoga 720 15inch version from best buy. The hard drive size is 256gb SSD. However, when I finished setting up the laptop, I noticed that my Local Drive (C) has only 192 space left. Right next to the Drive C, there is Drive D, which has 25gb space allocated by uses 1.7gb for Driver and YMC software only. There is nothing else in the drive, only drivers. As of now, after I installed all the programs necessary for me work, I have just 158gb space left in my Drive C. I would like to increase that space. I spoke to Lenovo on the phone and the guy told me that there is hidden partition in the drive for Lenovo Onekey recovery, which I do not think I need because I have done Windows reset before and successfully set up the clean format. Here are my questions for you. 1. Can I delete Drive D partition and merge it with Drive C without messing up my operating system? I have already backed up drivers from Drive D onto my external hard drive, and I would like to delete Drive D and merge it with Drive C. Please let me know if this is possible. 2. I looked for disk partition in the disk management, and it shows following:260mb Healthy (EFI System); 212.3gb (Windows C Healthy Boot, Page File, Crash Dump, Primary Partition); Lenovo (D Healthy Primary Parti... Hello, first I'd like to say that I'm not a tech guy, so if I haven't done something that would be obvious to you, please excuse my ignorance.I have a Y500 that is a few months old. I love the machine overall, the touchpad is a bit too sensitive and jumpy but nothing I can't adapt to. However, I have recently encountered what I consider a number of signifgicant and perhaps serious problems. This is my problem/the symptoms: System started taking an abnormal amount of time to boot Windows 8, stopped shutting down fully, exits Windows but hardware stays on and requires me to manually turn it off with the power button (I disabled the fast boot option in Windows and this seemed to fix the shutdown problem, but did nothing for boot up time), system takes a while to load Safe Mode and I cannot load most of the tools without waiting about 3 hours, OneKey Reocvery takes a while to boot into, I try to reset to factory default, it starts to initiliaze and then 5 minutes later provides the following message 'notice, an error occured while trying to access partition information', I've tried this multiple times and have received the same error message. This is what I have tried: AVG, Malwarebytes, Adaware, CCleaner, AdvancedSystemCare 6, Smart Defrag 2, plus a few other programs to optimize, diagnose and search for infections or problems. One of them removed a pesky Firefox add-on (Rapidfinda), and it seems the combination of using such tools has sped up browser and system performance o... Read more

Answer:Y500 OneKey Recovery error- unable to restore to factory default + shut down and boot problems

Under Windows 8 you have the following options:1. Restore to a date where you think the laptop is operating normally.2. Refresh - this will cause the reinstallation of windows 8 while retaining your files. Third party programs will be erased.3. Reset - this will cause the reinstallation of Windows 8 erasing everything in your drive. This is similar to the OKR except that only Windows will be re-installed. I haven't tried 2 and 3 in a laptop but have tried it in desktops. I also am not sure if the hidden partition to be use by OKR will be erased. You just have to decide which one will you choose. If not, you can restore from a system image if you made one earlier using Windows backup. Again I cannot guarantee that okr will be functional after.

System: Lenovo Yoga 700-14ISK 80QDThe nearly 4GB free space from the Lenovo partition were very tempting, so after researching if it's safe and such, I decided to give it a go using a 3rd party free software that saved me for many times in the past (MiniTool Partition Wizard). Interesting that most tutorials were about creating a recovery drive and removing the partition, but I decided for the moment to just get the free space until more is needed and I didn't found out that resizing with 3rd party software will mess up with your WinRe settings only after it was done. Here is the agent info:C:\Windows\system32>reagentc /info

Answer:WinRE disabled after resize Lenovo Recovery partition, but OneKey Re works

Use a backup to external drive. There is little advantage backing up to a in drive partition if the drive fail all is lost.Various much better solutions exist. Its well know that resizing/adding partitions mess up Lenovo's partitions that are built. They don't provide a utility as best I know to correct this afterwards.

Just wondering if anyone knows what the system is looking for when the OneKey is pressed and "System Recovery" is pressed. I know that on my system it boots from Partition 3 LRS_ESP, but what is it actually looking for that it knows to boot from that specific partition? Is it checking for a specific offset? I'm pretty sure it's not the Drive Label because I changed that and it still booted from the OneKey. Is it looking for a specific partition size? BTW I'm a Network Admin with over 17 years experience, so don't think this is some random n00b question or anything like that. I'm simply planning on wiping the drive clean and partitioning it the way I do all my systems. I already have a method that I've been using for years with my own custom Recovery partition. Depending on how that OneKey works I'm thinking I might just use it and attach it to my own recovery partiton. Just wondering what it specifically checks for to determine which partition to boot from. Thanks in advance!

When specifying back-up location, whether default or to an external device, it says I've not enough space, need 94GB. Can that true? I have a new system, with no graphics, etc., pgms, so the size seems very large.

Answer:Lenovo Yoga2 OneKey Recovery system partition backup space requirements

You will need to defragment the source partition before imaging to keep the size down. The default partition has not got much space, I don't know why it is a default location. Use an external HDD.

Hi,
I have Lenovo 3000 Y 500 came preinstalled with Windows VISTA Basic. It contains single physical Disk drive of size 120 GB. C:\ with 20 GB. D:\ with 80 GB and remaining hidden partition. I was having problem with C:\ running out of space to install the new programs. So I have incresed the size of C:\ with the space claimed by resizing D:\ using Windows VISTA Disk Management. The One key recovery, which was working until now, stopped working.
When I press One key recovery, it goes through all the usual windows stopping at the last window and throwing
"The hard disk partition is different from the factory preconfigured backup. System Recovery can not be done" before requesting to exit.
What should I do now to make the One key recovery work and bring back my laptop to factory configured settings.

Thanks and regards,

Hello, I would like to know, is Onekey recovery act the same like reformatting a notebook like we just buy it? Because I have use some application from the Internet and I think viruses or spammed(or others bad thing that I would never know, sorry for my ignorance) has attack my notebook from that application and it cause my whole notebook screen become black flashing/flickering with 0.5sec interval and then I know theres something bad happened. In that moment, my arrow at screen still can be move and I still can see the background(but it still flashing) so I decided to shut it down in a right way rather than force shut down. After a few hours, I swith on my laptop and it seems to be fine all the way and no more flashing but I decided to use Onekey recovery option and I select to recover from the "Initial state" of my notebook. After done the recovery process, I use it as usual for web streaming but after like an hour the black flashing strikes again and I once more shut it down and switch on again and its okay. Now I am sure that my notebook still got the "viruses" left cause I can tell it become slower than before. Fyi too,I just use the McAfee Internet Security eCard(3 years of period) as protection because Windows Defender must be disabled to allow McAfee to do the job. Back to my first question, does the recovery to the initial state can be same as reformatting the notebook like the first time we use it? Answer:Lenovo Yoga 13 disk partitions for onekey recovery... or delete onekey?

hi iperich,

In some cases, if the partition structure of the hard drive is changed, OneKey Recovery may cease to work.

If you're leaning towards freeing up space on the Yoga 13, check this Yoga 13 Hotfix.

Alternatively, you can also try the following.
1. Create a recovery drive (if it's still applicable - this is to backup your recovery partition into a flashdrive)
2. Follow this guide by Yikes2000. on how to manually repartition the Yoga 13.

In regards to manually deleting partitions 6,7, and 8, this would be fine if the OS is located in partition 5 (ensure that you back-up important files first).

@meliegree,Did you make a Factory Restore disc in OKR or did you just do the backup only?If its backup only, you might need to contact Lenovo support to get a factory restore disc instead in order to get the partition fixed.

I recently bought y500 was working for around 2 months now after windows update and one key I can't get anything to boot. Onekey took over 48 hours! then my computer would boot slowly sometimes normal, I tried various win8, oem and rtm also win8 x64 recovery. sadly cant get past the boot screens always goes black and bsod which is to fast to read. I've been trying to find a solution to this for around 3 weeks trying usb sticks with or without uefi and also booting Linux so I can try to format the hdd... I think I'm gonna throw my laptop out the windows!

Answer:y500 after Win8 update and Onekey Recovery

Hi farcrying,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that the Y500 is not booting to windows and displaying black screen, BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death) even after performing Windows updated and OSRI (Operating System Re-Install).

Below are the steps to check if the HDD (Hard Disk Drive) is detected in BIOS and reset it to default configuration:

Press the NOVO button to get BIOS menu as an option , Click Here to check the simulation of the BIOS menu.
Please check if the ?Information? tab of the BIOS menu for the HDD.
In BIOS menu click on ?F9? key to get the popup, select YES to rest the BIOS to its defaults.
Now click on?F10? then YES to save and exit the computer will restart automatically. This should resolve the issue.
If the issue persists even after resetting the BIOS, and I would strongly suggest Calling Technical Support for Assistance.

Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number.

Do post us back for further queries.

Hello After I hold the OneKey button, it says "Windows is Loading Files", then there's a screen with leaves in the background, there is a mouse cursor, and that's it.Nothing else loads. After about an hour I get a message, "This Application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000006). Click Ok to close the application.". The reason I launched this, is because my Windows Partition (~890GB) on Lenovo Y580 was non-readable from the  Command Prompt (on System Recovery options - it comes back with a message I/O Read error), and after running Chkdisk /r for 5 days, it still hasn't changed a bit. Link to picture/image Why is this happening? If the Windows partition is corrupt, would the OneKey Recovery still load? Or is it checking for something else? What are my options  here? Hello to Lenovo support(and community)! My laptop: Lenovo G560 (I have noticed some variable specification) I have bought G560 and it came with around 500GB hard disk;partition C: 420-430GB which is for application software, operating system, and user documents.partition D: 30GB for OneKey system reocvery and needed files, perhaps for factory restore.and two more partitions but they are invisible and only found them by running disk management. Now the problem is that I have my files(documents), app software and operating system on the same partition and I want to have only the operating system on C and have app and documents on another partition OR have a new 200-300GB(taken from C) for backups partition.**I know it is not recommended to have backups on the same hard disk, but this is a temporary solution. How can I shrink C to have unallocated space and use it to create a new partition(or more) without corrupting the D OneKey Recovery partition?   Thanks for supporting your customers!!!

Answer:OneKey System, Recovery partition, need repartition. Will it corrupt recovery partition?

Hello OLL98, welcome to Lenovo forums!

You cant use Onekey Recovery anymore if you change the partitions.

So please create your recovery media before, messing up with the partitions. My 2 cents.

Last thursday I got my new lenovo Y500. I was really happy with it and it work perfectly just 3 days.Yesterday morning I used my compuputer to play for a while and then warch a movie. Then I turned it off because I had to go. When I come back I turned on the laptop and it just get stucked in the Lenovo's logo. and then in the upper left corner it shows a messsage that said " Checking Media" A few seconds passed and a blue screen appears on the center and shows this message: Defauld boot device Missing or Boot Failed.Insert Recovery Media and Hit any keythen select boot manager to choose a new BootDevice or to Boot Recovery Media. I tried to go to the bios and try to boot in diferent ways but i doesnt worked, The message just continued showing. After a while i realized that the in the Bios only appeared the SSD of 16 gb an the DVD optical drive. but not the 1TB HDD. Hi guys. So I backed up all of my data into an external hard drive using the built-in Lenovo OneKey Recovery 8. My laptop is the Lenovo Y500 running the Windows 8.1 OS. After backing up my data, I decided to dual-boot Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 but for that to work I needed to do a fresh install of Windows 7 first. So I used diskpart to clean out my hard drive and partitioned it during the installation process of Windows 7. The bad thing here is that I think I also deleted the OneKey Recovery partition in the process.  My question then is how will I be able to recover my backed up data now? Will I be able to recover the OneKey Recovery partition? How will I be able to install OneKey Recovery 8? Thanks so much for answering.

Computer : Lenovo IdeaPad P580 with Windows 7

Hi ! My internal HDD died, but I managed to backup everything with both the Windows 7 utility (both files and system image), and OneKey Recovery. The HDD was changed and set back to factory default. I can easily restore the files, but the system image from Windows 7 utility is not detected. I want to try to restore my computer with OneKey Recovery.

1. When I press the OKR button in Windows, the OneKey Recovery program is displayed, as it should.
2. I ask for a recovery, it says the system will boot in recovery mode.
3. I get the BIOS splash screen, then Windows 7 splash screen, and then Windows simply boots normally.
4. The OKR button won't activate the recovery mode ; it simply acts like the power button.

My problem is much similar to the one explained in the topic "One-Key Recovery will not boot into recovery system (y450)", however, the Lenovo's hidden partition is already hidden (its type is already set to 12). This video also provides the very same solution, but it doesn't seem to apply to my case.

Let me explain :

I have 4 partitions :
1. One hidden partition of 200 MB*. I've read it might be the WinRE environnement, I should not touch it. Originally, it had no name, but I gave it the name "Environnement WinRE". Its partition type ID is 07 (NTFS Windows).
2. My main partition C:, type 07. Size : 653,44 GB
3. Lenovo's D: partition, type 07. Size : 25,47 GB
4. Lenovo's hidden diagnost... Read more

Answer:Can't boot OneKey's recovery mode, OneKey button does not work

good question.  I can't offer any suggestions here but would also like to know if those other partitions are really needed if you have a complete cloned hdd with those other partitions as a backup.  I don't like the idea there is at least 40GB of unnecessary partitions and data reserved that I cannot use.

Hello everyone!  I'm a Y500 user and my laptop came with pre-installed windows 8 along with OKR. However, I have recently changed my internal HDD due to the previous one being corrupted. My new HDD works perfectly fine except for the part that I can no longer use OKR despite installing the latest version. It says that my current system cannot support backup. This new HDD only have 2 partitions on it; C/ for programs and D/ for data. Please help me out. I really am a fan of the OKR because I'd like to keep my system backed up. Thank you in advance!

Answer:Y500 [changed HDD]: Onekey recovery current system cannot support backup

Hi shfqemir,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Too bad but the OKR Partition is not present on a NEW HDD you got.
Normally the OKr partition was made from the Lenovo Factory.

In order to get this back you might need to have the unit sent back to Lenovo for repair and ask about the OKR partition not working as your problem.

OR you can use Third party programs like Acronis
http://www.acronis.com/en-us/

You can use this method to create a current system back up

Hi Vinay,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per your query we understood that you are facing the issue with system recovery on ThinkPad E430.

I am sorry to inform you that ThinkPad system will not be having One Key Recovery option. To perform the system recovery you have to use ThinkVantage button on the system or you can use the recovery disc which you have created after the system purchase.

Hope this helps.

I just purchased a new Z50-70 (run-out stock) with Windows 8.1, and am trying to understand Onekey Recovery, disk partitions etc. I read a lot of the blogs on this, but still not clear. In this Lenovo support documenthttp://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht077144it says"NOTE: The far left small Recovery Partition, EFI System Partition and Windows 8 operating system partition, is required by Windows 8. The larger Recovery Partition is the Lenovo created partition." When I look at my hard drive, it appears different to above document. These are the partitions I see from left to rightRecovery Partition - 1000MBEFI System Partition - 260MBOEM Partition - 1000MBWindows8_OS (C - 890.46GBLenovo D - 25GB Recovery Partition - 13.72 GB For recovery purposes, which partitions are used by Windows, and which by OneKey?I don't want to add or change partition sizes. I want to use Windows System Image backup on a regular basis.Windows System Image backup selection gives pre-ticked boxes to backup the EFI partition, the Windows8 C partition, and the WINRE_DRV (System) partition (1000MB) with a tick-box option to also include the D drive.Other than the C drive, does OneKey recover all the other partitions including the D drive, or do I need to include these all in my Windows System Image backup? The most important question I have, is what happens if my internal hard drive fails after several years (like it did on my previous DELL laptop). Answer:Disk Partitioning on Lenovo Z50-70 with Windows 8.1 and OneKey Recovery

First about the partiitons. Refer to this link. It described each particular partiition. From the link you gave the 13 GB space is the OKR recovery partition. To your Hdd the 13.72 GB labelled as Recovery Partition is the OKR Recovery partition. To be strict about these two partitions they are really user OKR backup storage partition. There are other partitions needed by OKR through the NOVO button. You should be able to see them using a third party partiition program like EaseUs Partition Manager. Second. As to your important question: "The most important question I have, is what happens if my internal hard drive fails after several years (like it did on my previous DELL laptop). I will hopefully have a good Windows System Image Backup, but with no recovery disks, if I wanted to purchase a new internal replacement hard drive, how can I get a copy of the essential OneKey partitions, to get to a state to recover my Windows System Image backup." Comment: If you made a system image or backup using Windows you will only get Windows when you restore. As to the OKR (Onekey Recovery) partitions you will not be able to restore them. If you made the backup using OKR then you will be able to restore them from the date you made the backup. This means updated OS plus programs you installed. This will only happen if the OKR partitions remain in place. So if you use a new hdd which does not  have the OKR partitions you will not be able to restore your OKR backup.

I installed almost all the drivers and apps at lenovo driver support download page without problems but i could not find some of lenovo apps that came in my laptop when i bought it and I really need them. The only one available in the driver download page were Lenovo energy manger. The most importants for me that i need are lenovo onekey recovery app and lenovo updates. For onekey recovery I only need the app, not the files to restore the whole partition, because the recovery partition is intact, I did not format it. So I only need the app that opens it. Th apps I want to get back are:1. Lenovo Onekey Recovery app - The one I am more interested in.2. "Lenovo Updates' (lenovo updates is the name of the app) The scond one im am more interested in.3. Lenovo Settings4. Lenovo companion If someone can guide me to where to download each of them, it would be great. I would need for windows 8.1 64 bit or windows 10. Thank You, I hope you can help me.

By doing so, you lose support to their OKR software and you will need to pay them $ in the event that you need to reformat your computer to factory (using their disks). The product key comes pre-embedded in the Windows install. Unless you use a key extractor on your current install, you may lose your key for good since I doubt your OKR system works anymore.

I've been spending the last 3 days trying to setup onekey recovery. after tons of reading and even trying 7.0 engineering, there has been no result. Using 7.0 option 2 leads me to a disk error when it selects disk 0 which is the 24 gb ssd included in the laptop which I don't know the content. The original 1 TB HDD has been replaced by a 250 gb ssd. The seller migrated or mirrorred the data which now the onekey does not recognize. After failing with onekey, I then moved on to windows recovery. I tried using the windows way which is through the windows recovery utility. but reached some dead ends as well. First is making the recovery usb, the partition was not clickable. then I managed to make the partition clickable to be included by downloading windows enterprise evaluation and exporting the install.wim to become my img for use? I manage to get the program recovery to run but when I tried refreshing it ends with the program unable to refresh. I tried booting the usb and using the refresh button there and this leads me now to the message the drive your windows is installed is locked. tried bootrec /fixboot which leads to element not found. I also tried the use image option from the boot recovery but it says there is none when i also followed the custom image option process by windows This has been so frustrating that a simple process can become so complicated. Help anyone? please? Thanks.

Hello! I'm a owner of a HP Mini 5101. It has a function to press F11 to return the system into the "out-of-the-box" state. But my problem starts here. When I press F11 I imediately get a screen that says Windows Boot manager on top and and error : 0xc000000e and required device is inaccessible. This started after I made a "clean" install with the DVD Windows 7 that came with the computer as I tried to avoid all the "crapware" that comes included with the new notebook. If I boot into Windows, the HP_RECOVERY partition is visible and the HP recovery image is on it. Is there anyway to get the F11 recovery back to working state? I have some BCD editing knowledge in that would help in any way with my problem..... Thank you very much! U

Answer:F11 HP recovery doesn't boot into recovery partition

Thank you very much for getting back to me so fast.I have to apologize as I did not explain my problem in the right way. Technically I am able to boot the partition, but the problem occurs when the partition needs to boot into WinRE or WinPE I guess so that the recovery can start. The loading process gets stuck immediately at the beginning even before anything "Windows related stuff" starts loading. So about five seconds after I turn on the computer and boot into the recovery partition, or pressing F11 the error that I'm describing shows up. Update: I managed to fix my problem. After setting the recovery partition to active, and booting from the installation USB with windows 7, I managed to fix the mbr that was corrupted and the partition didn't know what to boot. So after fixing it, i had no problem running the recovery. Thank you!

Hi All, I am prepping a new Lenovo Yoga 13 for a user.  I want to create recovery DVD(s) for the new system with the OneKey Recovery software.  When I open the application there is no option to create media.  There are only a backup option and a restore option.  I called tech support and they advised if I attach a DVD drive the option to create media will appear.  I did this but no luck.....  I am attaching first a picture of what I see when I open One Key Recovery And secondly to show that I do have a usb DVD connected here is a picture of the DVD attached with a blank DVD inside it.  I have downloaded the lastest update to the One Key Utility and am running version:  8.0.0.1519.  Can anyone give any insight as to why the create recovery media isn't there for me?.....

Since I deleted all drives, including the 24GB recover drive, I need to restore this configuration, please direct me to an application download that I can use for this. Would have to restore the OKR functionality. The reason I deleted this was that when installing Windows 8.1 it kept listing both drives (the 24GB and the HDD) as installable drives, and wanted to default to drive 0 (24GBFlash) instead of drive 1 (HDD). In Windows logic, a OS should be installed on the 0 drive (or the drive connected to the first available sata/ide connection). If you also have an updated version of OKR for Windows 8.1 I would rather have that thankyou, I have my own 8.1 license. I have seen some answers directing us to sending in the laptop to lenovo for this. I refuse to do that.

Answer:Need to restore recovery partition and Onekey Recovery. [Y510p]

For DIY: It is possible to recreate the partitions but it will be difficult to make OKR function without a copy of the okr backup image. Also you may have misinterpreted the ssd cache as the recovery drive. So before starting to implement your plan be sure you have the correct information. Its not really as easy as you think so be careful. So without the okr image backup, your only choice is what everybody is telling you all along: send your unit to Lenovo. They're the only who can put back your system to factory default.

My System was without a SSD Drive, but I upgraded it by my own and everything was allright after I cloned the System to the SSD-drive. But after cleaning C: I couldn't boot the OKR-Parttion anymore due to the fact I couldn't load my imagebackup!!! After installing Windows 7 new I realized the "LENOVE_PART" Partition is still there hidden and with the id 12, everything is as it should be, but i can't boot the recovery system to restore my old image. What can I change to be able booting the recovery system again?

Answer:Windows Vista of Y650 can't boot any more after recover from the Onekey Recovery

corrupted or missing file.press one key recover button and select to fix boot issues. or just press f8 :- select "fix boot issues" or select safe mode, restore your computer a couple of days ago. if this doesn't work, use full recovery for your computer. if you can't, use recovery disks, if you don't have, call lenovo support line.

Apologies for yet another question about OneKey Recovery (OKR) but after a day spent reading posts here and elsewhere I am lost as to how (if at all) it is possible to use OKR 8.1 to backup the system and hidden partitions so as to enable recovery to a new HD. System is B50-70 delivered 30/12/14 but built October 2014 with Windows 8.1 64 bit and OKR 8.1.0.2326. When I run OKR it offers me System Backup.  This backs up the Windows OS  (C:\).  I can see no options to backup the existing hidden partition or to create recovery disks/drive which would include that hidden partition.    Am I missing something please?   If not, is my best bet to dig out my Acronis?

Answer:OneKey Recovery 8.1: hidden partition(s)

For a total hard drive restoration, using Acronis would be your best option.  As you suspected One Key Recovery will only image the system partition which isn't much help if the hard drive has to be replaced.

Hi, when I use Onekey Recovery I see 'partition has damaged...'. I need reset my Windows 8, because the system stopped loading and began to automatic repair (with no result)..Please help me

Answer:OneKey Recovery - partition has damaged

Hi janzdanowski,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

This seems to have been because of a Bad partition, or Possibly Bad HDD,
If the system is still within Warranty I strongly suggest you Call Lenovo Technical Assistance.

You need a Recovery CD to reinstall the Windows from scratch but- You need to make sure that the HDD is OK and does not need Replacement.

Regards
Solid Cruver

After failing to fix problems on my nephew's B50, I reluctantly used the OneKey Rec. button. Apart from the system being rolled back to the factory install of Win. 7, and not the factory install of 8.0 nor the update to 10, all seems fine. Although when I try to run a new backup with OKR, a message of "insufficient size on the target drive" comes up. After browsing through the D: drive, there is a couple of gigs worth of drivers and apps. Are these leftover from the first backup? Can I delete them in order to fit the new backup?

Hello, I have recently repartitioned my disk on my Lenovo Z50-70 to a system drive with 290 GB, the Lenovo drive was kept at 24,9 GB and a new partition with 600 GB. I want to create a separate system partition and reinstall the system using OneKey Recovery. My question is, wether the system will format the HDD and erase my two partitions and create one large C: drive, or will the documents I moved to D: (the new partition) stay there, unharmed? Thanks for your anwsers

Hey Hello,I'm Using G480 And Trying To Make Recover Disks On Blank DVD's But After One or Mazimum Two Disks.. It Stops Detecting New Blank DVDs And The DVDs Pop Out Automatically..I've Tried Replacing The DVDs But Still It Doesn't Detect New Ones..I've Wasted 3 DVD's 'nTried To restart The Setup Every Time !!First Time It Stopped Detecting the 2nd Disk at 25% Done State And 2nd Time It Stopped Detecting the 3rd Disk at 50% Process !!Can Anyone Please Help ??

Answer:OneKey Recovery 7.0 Doesn't Detect New DVD.. Plz Help !!

Hi ruptured_veins,

Welcome to the Lenovo Community.

May I know what brand(s) of DVD's have you tried? Also, when it stops detecting the new blank DVD's & it pops it out, does it give you any error message?

The reason I asked is because low quality discs could cause the Recovery Disc creation to be corrupted. I recommend that you use high quality discs (such as a Sony DVD +/-R - don't use DVD re-writables).

You may also want to check this link as the process is similiar to your model.

Let us know if the issue persists.

Hi,I bought a new ideapad Y 450 T6600 2.2ghz with Vista as OS. Problem begin after i realize partition D is gone.(actually my ideapad have 2 partition; C and D. But D just about 14gb and C is 300 gb.This partitions originally from factory). After that i use 'OneKey Recovery' to restore my laptop like the new one from factory. But the D partition didn't appear. I don't know why. Just partiton C with 298 gb ( with all software bundle from lenovo). I use 'Disk Management' in Windows Vista to split hard disk in two partitions. C as the original and D as the new (17x :7x gb). After what happen, i tried used 'onekey recovery' to restore ideapad but that not happen. I wait 4 hours just for OneKey Recovery analyzing hard disk. I turn of the laptop and the OneKey Recovery doesn't work anymore. How can i get back all the programs or sofwares functional in ideapad Y 450 like normal? Many thanks.

Answer:OneKey Recovery doesn't work

I see that the Y450 has the same design of OneKey. Meaning that resizing "C" will cause you to lose the factory restore option. You should have the hard drive reimaged by Lenovo.

With the help of this forum iam able to sort out the mess (Error Code : 0xc0000225)

The thing is that my laptop lenovo G50-70 came with pre-isntalled Windows 8.1,
when i bought they said to take backup of the OS using OneKey Recovery,
since lenovo is not providing separate disks now a days,i forgot to take backup and i have tried to partition it using EaseUS then in the middle of this process i got an error 0xc0000225,i have solved this with the help of EasyRE neosmart (bought it online)
it worked but the recovery drives and system_drv drive are unallocated, just two local drives are Healthy
if i can make them work again i can get OneKey Recovery work again,
using EaseUS Data Recovery iam able to see the lost drives and files.
Is there any way i can make these drives work again i.e Healthy Partition ?

There is a partition "D" , 25GB,  called Lenovo that I'm puzzled about , so I have some questions (I have looked at some of this thread also new disk partioning and one key recover feature ) On D there is a folder, "drivers" , which I think could have been on the main C partition. I thought the purpose of D was to be a dedicated space for a system backup, using "Onekey". But shouldn't such a partition be invisible?  I also noticed an invisible 14GB recovery partition next to the viible D disc., when I look at disc management. In OneKey I can do a system backup. It says that it needs 44GB. That's more than the size of the D partition. Will it always backup all the data in C ? Then it will be a huge amount over time. So I don't get the idea behind OneKey or the D partition. You can do a system backup in windows 8 that you save to USB. But that takes only 16GB. I'm gessing that's only the most vital system data. I would have liked to have the total 1000GB partitioned into a 300GB C disc, and the rest on a D partition. If I want to erase the current D partition, how can I transfer any important drivers to the main C disc? I hope that I can do that and then create a new partition out of C. Any suggestions or explanations?

Answer:The idea with the D partition (Lenovo z50) and OneKey

Hi, i have a Z50 for a few days..i've not idea about the D: partition but I guess it's a partition to save drivers and allow users to access it.. concerning the hidden partition.it is not possible to burn recovery disks using One Key Recoverythe only way to recover your system from factory is using the recovery partition (not C, not D, but the hidden partition)so better to keep it. As C: is the main partition i guess you can only reduce the volume, not extend it (as in windows 7).I would copy file from D: (drivers) to C:then I would delete D: and resize C: hope it helped.mike

On the Lenovo Onekey Recovery, I selected the option to restore system partition to its initial status. Now I'm not sure what this does exactly, but it then asked for what language I wanted to use and then username and password. And before I could type in anything, the screen turn black and no matter what I did, it wouldn't budge from there. Now I don't know if I accidentally removed windows and I don't know how to get it back. Does anyone know what options I have?

Hi to all guys,i'm here with that little problem..I was doing some "cleaning" on my laptop and i was watching all the softwares that i had..So i thought that it was a great idea format the PC!I opened the "Onekey Recovery" software and i clicked the part where it says that i can format my pc...it says "Do you want to restart your pc for enter in Onekey Recovery Software?" I obviously clicked yes,and the pc restarted...but nothing happened:it did only a simply restart, and i didn't see any softwares show up :\ Anyone has an idea of why? Thanks,Ludovico. (Please sorry for my English,I'm Italian )

Answer:Z580 Onekey Recovery doesn't start!

hi Ludovico,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

The partition struction of the drive must have been modified that's why the recovery partition is not triggering via the OneKey Recovery application.

Try one of the following:
1. Create a recovery drive and use it to reset Windows 8.
2. Reset Windows 8

Hope this helps

Hi, I just got my Ideapad Y430 a few days ago. I've been trying to do the initial full backup with OneKey Recovery. I'm trying to put it on an external hard drive, because the program says it takes up approximately 40GB, while the default partition only has space for 28GB. However, every time I start the back up, it goes on for some time, but when it's about 30% finished, it just skips to 100% and says that the backup is complete. However, the back up files on the external drive only take up about 10GB of space (I've tried this 3 times already, and gotten to various values between 9-13GB before it stopped). Does anyone know why that keeps happening? I'm sure that if I try again, the same thing will happen again. I really want to do the backup, but have no idea what to do now that it refuses to finish.. I'd appreciate any help. Thank you!

If you have not erased the hidden folder containing the okr backup image files it is possible to restore and modify the sizes of C and D but it's going to be a complicated process. You also have to reinstall expresscache if you have the ssd cache installed.

I just bought a new Y400 sometime back. Win 8, OKR 8. 1TB HDD.It had incovenient partition sizes - with a large C-OS, a D: Lenovo and no separate partition for personal files.I like to keep personal files in a separate partition, so I was going to repartition the C drive, when I saw the threads about how OneKey recovery (OKR) will stop working if I did so.So I was searching for answers and I read the long winded procedure for re-installing OKR for those who have already partitioned their HDDs and their OKR stopped working.I also read something about serial numbers of the partitions, in some thread. Here is what I did -DISCLAIMER: Please do it at your own risk, what worked for me, may or may not work for you. I am not responsible if anything goes wrong.Prepare:A) Make a backup of your system using other cloning/imaging tools before you do this.B) Be prepared that OKR backup and recovery will still not work after this, and you might have to take the longer procedure to get OKR functionality back.C) I have just saved the backup image, NOT yet tried to recover from it, so cannot say for sure if that image will work. Saving of recovery image and restoration of that image using Novo button and OneKey Recovery (OKR) both work !!D) Even if it works, I do not know what parts of the system will be restored. What I did -1) I made System Repair Disc using Win's recovery system and also a system image using the same.2) Wrote down the Serial Number of all the partitions in the HDD (I h... Answer:For NEW system, how to re-partition AND make OKR (OneKey) Recovery work !!

Success.I backed up this repartitioned system using Marcium and then proceeded to restore the earlier saved system image using OKR and Novo button. It recovered the system to the earlier repartitioned state (not the factory state). As expected all the extra software that I had installed at that time, like Firefox etc, were also restored and are working on my system. So I can say that this procedure of using the original serial numbers of the HDD partitions for C and D is very likely to work.I hope those people wanting to keep the OKR working and repartition their new Lenovo systems find this thread useful using their original HDD partition serial numbers.

I have a U410 that is only a couple months old. A few days ago I decided to take the plunge and accept the free upgrade to Windows 8.1. Big mistake. SInce the upgrade, I've had a slew of problems ranging from programs not running to hard disk integrity checks every time I restart the computer. I've already refreshed the computer (wiping all programs), with no luck. Now I'd like to restore from the recovery partition. However, when I press the onekey button I get the same behavior described here, and can't boot to system recovery mode.   Based on some of the posts in this thread, I gather that any change in the partition sizes pretty much breaks the onekey software, but that sometimes restoring the factory partition sizes can cause it to work again. I haven't knowingly made any changes to the partition sizes, yet looking at disk management I am seeing more partitions than I would have expected (not sure if they were there before the upgrade since I've never looked before). I would like to know if there's any way I can regain access to the recovery partition--and if not, what my best bet is for undoing the damage the 8.1 upgrade did to my OS. Thanks in advance for your help.

I am currently using a G550 2958 Model Laptop, from the Lenvo 3000/Essentials Notebook Series.  This laptop came with a feature called OneKey Recovery, which I have used to create recovery disks for my computer, using 2 DVDs.  My problem is this: I wish to install a Linux operating system on my computer, but Lenovo filled the partition table.  Here is a summary of the partition configuration:  First Partition, Unnamed, Primary, NTFS, 200-300 MB, boot flag, houses Master Boot Record Second Partition, "C", "C:", and/or "OS Drive" (running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Service Pack 1), Primary, NTFS, approximately 187 GB, contains Windows installation and personal files. Third Partition, Unnamed, Extended, NTFS, approx. 30 GB, is a container for: Logical Partition: "Lenovo", Logical, NTFS, approx. 30 GB, lba flag (which I take to mean it's bootable), contatins data and drivers necesarry for operating the OneKey Recovery System in respect to creating images and usage of the NOVO button. Fourth and final Partition, "LENOVO_PART", Primary, NTFS, 13-17 GB, hidden service partition used for OneKey Recovery.  My question is this: I'm aware of the fact the OneKey Recovery will cease to function if I resize or delete any partitions in that I will not be able to create backup images or recovery disks, but since I have already done so and have no further need of OneKey, will booting the recovery disks automatically restore OneKey func... Answer:Partition Management in the Presence of the OneKey Recovery System

Hi willbuntu and welcome to the community,

Here's a thread where we were experimenting with resizing partitions and deleting them.  I made a full backup with OKR on an external hard drive and made the recovery discs.  I deleted D: and resized C: and installed Linux.  I was able to restore the system using the recovery discs.  The discs resized the partitions and put everything back the way it was from the factory. Then, I restored from my backup and everything was back the way it was when I started.

Make sure that the discs that you made will boot okay.

Where Can I download or order a Boot Disc for my Z580?  It came with Windows 7, and PC World were offering a free upgrade to Windows 8.  I am currently unable to create a Factory Default Recovery Disc.  There is an error with the Onekey Recovery software in burning onto the DVD / Disc.  I have tried two different DVDs (4.7GB), and have tried a CD (740MB).  And I receive the same error about one fifth of the way through. The reason I am having to do a factory reset, is because my Wirless Network driver is not working, and the laptop no longer accepts external wireless USB dongles.  I can't get internet even with a wired connection.  It isn't to do with whether the wireless is switched on or not.  I've tried this. What is Lenovos policy about providing customers with the means to restore their Laptops?  In the past computer manufacturers / suppliers provided all the software and bootdiscs. Thanks

Answer:Request for Boot Disc Z580 Windows 7. Unable to create bootdisc using OneKey Recovery 7.0

hi Timneedshelp,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Have you tried performing Recovery using the Recovery Button?

Turn off the system then press the small button like the one on the photo
And it should boot your system to a Recovery Like environment giving your options to restore factory back up,

If this one failed or not working, I suggest Calling Lenovo Technical Support in your location for a CD option,

Hope this helps
Cheers!

Got my Yoga 13 a couple weeks ago and have spent time getting it set up the way I want.  I applied the Lenovo supplied partition hotfix to increase the amount of free space on my 128GB SSD.  This merges the D: drive into the C: (among other things).  I also have OneKey Recovery version 8.0 on my Yoga.  After applying the hotfix, my OneKey Recovery no longer works.  I can still see the 7.17GB recovery partiiton in Disk Management (PBR_DRV).  But when trying to use OneKey program I get error messages:  "Current system can not support back up" and "The program cannot find the service partition. This function is currently unavailable". Because my Yoga is still under warranty, I called software support at Lenovo.   They offered to send me a recovery DVD for $59 or one time technical support of $89.  Otherwise, he said Lenovo does not stand behind their hotfix.  It is provided "as-is". Needless to say I am unhappy.  I've purchased computers for years from various vendors.  This is my first Lenovo, but unless Lenovo stands behind their own products, it will probably be my last. See related thread here with similar woes -http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-IdeaTab-Slate-Tablets/Change-onekey-default-path/td-p/1081595

Since you only purchased your Yoga a few weeks ago what size was the D: partition before you ran the patch? I suspect you already had the new partition scheme (D: would have been about 4GB) so did not really need the patch and this may be the root cause of the issue. In the UK (or EU) our consumer rights would allow the return of the machine for a full refund, it seems those rights in the USA are not what they should be! Can you not get the shop you purchased from to help you? I would also tackle Lenovo again as they have no evidance that the hot fix patch caused the problem, which may have existed before you applied it. Unless they already know it causes the problem!

Hey guys, just bought my wife a new S12 with XP Home Edition.  I normally like to reformat new computers to start fresh and get all the factory-loaded crap off there.  Can I do that on this computer but still leave the recovery partition intact?  I assume so, but I just want to make sure.  In other words, is there anything on the factory c: drive that the recovery partition depends on to work properly?  Or is the recovery partition completely independent? And if I do this, I assume I will access the recovery partition (if it's ever needed) during startup since it will no longer be available on the c: drive. Oh, and will this void the warranty?  I hope not! Thanks!

Answer:Starting with fresh install of XP but keeping OneKey recovery partition?

Hi, i prefer a complete backupwith free tools from easeus http://www.easeus.com/disk-copy/or acronis trueimage  ... on a second hdd.. for personal assurance ...  .. you can install all systems you like , starting from a scratch ...and void no warranty ...warranty only for hardware (all you can grab with your fingers i.e. S12   ... so delete software like  XP and you didnt make a backup.. or something is your personal prob... if you dont install a antivirus ... and get a malicious ... its your prob..   sincerely KalvinKlein

I bought a G50-70 laptop recently - the one with FreeDOS on it.I found a 1GB partition in the HDD and deleted it thinking it was created for FreeDOS.Then I created a 100GB partition and installed windows 8.1 in it, which works quite well, The Novo button has a system recovery option, but this just boots Windows now.How to make Onekey Recovery work on this system? Is it possible?

Answer:Lenovo G50-70 onekey recovery

hi melvincv,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

The 1GB partition that you deleted might have been the OneKey Recovery app (but lacks the backup file to restore from factory since the unit came with FreeDOS) and ideally, the OneKey Recovery requires the recovery partition for it to work.

Please help with getting acces to the Recovery Service Parition. On a Lenovo E431, I have tried more then a dozen times rapidly pressing F11 on boot up. Other procedures tried:1) Hold down F11 on powerup.2) Hold down Fn+F11 on powerup3) Remove battery + pressing power button 10+ times then repeat above. Also, neither F1 to enter BIOS or F12 for boot menu seem to work. On bootup the bios post screen flashes for less then 1/2 second. All I can make out is, on the bottom it says PRESS F1 to enter BIOS setup. Then it boots into Windows 10. I was considering that maybe the Service Partition was erased but it is NOT.I pulled the drive, and attached to another machine.  The Service Partition IS THERE. Ultimate goal - Wipe the C: drive, overwritting Windows 10 and restore factory Windows 8 Pro. Please help, whats the secret to getting into ANY of the Function Key options?Thanks,Unit1000

Answer:Lenovo E431 - Can't get into Recovery Service Partition or BIOS or Boot Menu

Per Lenovo, their One Key Recovery software is not available in Windows 10, so that may be why you cannot access it since the upgrade, and I do not believe (I could be wrong) that the boot to recovery partition option was ever available on your model....I think you had to use One Key Recovery from within the OS, or have created recovery media. If it has been less than a month since you updated to Windows 10, you can still revert back to the previous version using Windows recovery, but after that time elapses, you cannot, and would have to do a clean install of Windows 8.1 instead. How to revert back using Windows Recovery (if upgrade is less than a month old)Press Windows Key + A  simultaneouslySelect  All Settings option from bottom of slide out window on right.Select Update & SecuritySelect RecoverySelect Get Started under "Go Back to Windows 8.1" (if still available)See link below for more details How to downgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 8.1http://www.windowscentral.com/how-downgrade-windows-10-windows-81 If over one month has passed, then you will have to basically overwrite the HD with a fresh install of Windows 8.1 Pro (8.0 pro install media is not available) by using Microsoft's MediaCreationTool available here, and burn either a DVD or USB key to use to install Windows 8.1 pro.     Windows 8.1 should find your Windows Product Key stored in the BIOS, and, per Microsoft's Downgrade Rights, and install 8.... I just got my G40-80 from Lenovo warranty repair (faulty HDD), now it won't boot into recovery environment.

Factory partition layout is untouched (LRS_ESP, Windows8_OS, LENOVO, WNRE_DRV, SYSTEM_DRV, PBR_DRV).

From Novo Button, selecting System Recovery boots straight to Windows 8.1.

From OneKey Recovery software, system restarts into Windows 8.1.

How can I reactivate this function?

Answer:G40-80 - Novo Button / OneKey Recovery won't boot Recovery Environment

If you have your recovery disks you can try and reload from them.  Also - look for updated software / utilites in the Support tab for your notebook.  Lastly - you can contact Lenovo Support by phone to have them send out recovery disks for you if neccessary as it sounds like something was not loaded up correctly.

Good luck.

I miss the surrond sound effect. I finally figured out how to do a clean install of Windows 8 after screwing up and deleting my recovery partition. I had an extra copy of Windows 8, so I'm back in business. I had to create a Windows 7 flash drive, and I had to upgrade to 8 through Windows. Windows 8 would not do a clean install because it kept reporting an invalid key. I'm sure it was extracting the key from the motherboard.

Has anyone been able to transfer the OneKey recovery partition to a new hard drive on the IdeaPad Y430/530/730? Reason I ask is because I want to transfer the OneKey in the latest Y series IdeaPads to a Y410. I have placed a hard drive for a Y430 in a Y410 and it boots into it just fine with the NOVO button. I was hoping I could transfer it over and recreate a Windows image for the Y410. However, I have noticed that OKR 6.0 will not run in a Y410 [at least when I installed it on mine]. It may work on a fresh install of XP [hopefully]. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Answer:Transfer OneKey Recovery Partition To New Hard Drive on IdeaPad Y430/530/730?

I suppose you'll not be able to transfer recovery partition image from one HDD to another.OKR 6 runs flawlessly on XP on every Lenovo Ideapad or Len3000 new series - I checked on Y510/Y710/s9/G410.

Answer:Can't install Lenovo Onekey Recovery

Extract the files from the EXE with Universal Extractor. Go into the directory where the files were extracted, and delete a file titled "Custom". You should be able to install it then.

Answer:Lenovo OneKey Recovery damaged

Hi ZheeSheeter,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

The hidden recovery partition is imaged only in the factory are cannot be recreated the same even with a recovery disc. Only by sending it to the same depot facility to restore it back.

If the Hidden Partition is destroyed:
If the hidden partition is destroyed or replaced hard drive, you won't be able to restore the system through Lenovo OneKey Recovery software. You need to utilize the Recovery DVD, read more from below related articles:How to recover the system to Factory settings with Recovery DiscsHow can I get a system recovery CD, DVD or USB from Lenovo

Hope this help answer your query.

After the restore to imitial backup your unit will have all the factory installed program at the time you first receive them while after the user's backup restoration your unit will be at the condition when you made the backup (OS + programs + data, etc).
