Preferred Solution: Problems with Y510P, windows expiring and won't accept product key, plus missing details.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Problems with Y510P, windows expiring and won't accept product key, plus missing details.

It should not be asking for a Windows key if it was ONLY an update from Windows 8 to 8.1 Did you change the HDD, modified BIOS or installed 8.1 differently than going into "Update & Recovery"? Your Serial Number and Model No should be on the Invoice which Lenovo sent you.It should also be in the Final order email and the Lenovo Order Status on the website. Note it down, since I also couldn't find it on my laptop as a sticker.

I'm installing a new Virtual-PC using my local CD ROM to run my Microsoft Windows XP Pro install disk.  The Install disk get to the very end and asks for the Product Key.  It claims the key is invalid.  Has anyone else had this issue?

Hello all, I am having trouble getting Windows XP to accept my product key serial number which I have had and been using since I bought the computer new around six years ago. I am going to be making some hardware upgrades and be switching over to windows 7, so I was in the process of updating all my drivers when after updating my motherboard driver it asked me to restart my computer in order to finish the instalation. I did so and upon restart something happened to which the end result was that I was asked to activate my Windows XP and would I like to do that now, obviously I did, well not really, I wanted it to just carry on working as normal but that wasn't an option. I entered my serial number, and it told me it wasnt valid. What do I do now. And will it affect me being able to install my new Windows 7 which is the upgrade version from Vista or XP?...thanks in advance.

Answer:Windows XP wont accept my product key

It wont affect your upgrade but it should not ask yo for you key again after it already being activated. ignore what it says, I would say that while trying to download update you may have picked a virus that is stealing your windows key. But it wont affect your upgrade to windows 7. Windows 7 will have a separate activation key.

Hi All,

After getting around to getting my laptop fixed i decided it was long overdue for a fresh copy of Windows XP.
After formatting the hard disk i can not find my recovery cd's!

So i decided to borrow my brothers Windows XP Professional CD, which im sure has Service Pack 2 built in.

When trying to use my Product Key from the COA label underneath the laptop it just refuses to accept it. :(
Any ideas? Am i using the wrong version of windows?

The label does say 'Windows XP Professional 1-2CPU'
Can i obtain recovery cd's from Toshiba or would that cost too much.

Any advice would be great, many thanks.
Regards
Jay.

Answer:Windows XP OS does not accept the product key from the COA label

Hi

> Can I obtain recovery CD's from Toshiba or would that cost too much.
Yes, this is possible. You can order the Recovery CD from the ASP in your country and it should be not expensive?

I?m nor 100% sure why the key from COA label cannot be accepted. Maybe you notebook was delivered only with XP home edition and therefore it does not work with XP PRO.

I encountered a problem while re-partitioning my computer the other day, shortly after installing Windows 7, and now I'm unable to reinstall *any* version of Windows on any of the three hard drives in my computer.

When I try to install from scratch - which I'm only doing because it's proved impossible to reinstall over the top of existing installations - using the Windows installation disks, I'm informed that "Your product key cannot be validated. Review your product key and make sure that you have entered it correctly."

That specific wording is from the Vista installation routine, but a similar formulation comes up in all three versions I have - XP, Vista and 7.

I know that the product keys are in fact correct - I've used them before on the same computer - and all of these versions of Windows are authentic, the original disks and purchased through officially approved channels.

Looking up this issue on the web, none of the scenarios mentioned appear to apply. One suggested for Vista is that the installation disk is pre-service pack 1 and the product key was issued after that, but that can't be the cause here as the same thing is happening in XP and 7 too.

Looking in the BIOS, everything appears to be normal. And looking at the disks using a boot CD for the two partioning programs I have - TeraByte BootIt NG and Acronis Disk Director 10 - nothing appears to be out of the ordinary. All three internal disks are functioni... Read more

Answer:Windows fails to accept product keys - XP, Vista and 7(!)

found some info in Google with: xp vista dual boot (no clue about all 3; did a search for all 3 but only found links for dual, not triple, boots)

or contact your pc vendor? i've only ever done 98 & XP; had to install 98 first and only used the on-board option for partioning for XP after i installed 98. used another partition program to partition further, after everything was installed.

others will have much better info, but will want your system specs (brand, age, etc.) mine is a 6 year old Dell Dimension 4700 that came with XP Home & i'm thinking it couldn't (maybe it could, but Vista issues sound too much like ME issues and i don't care to try) handle Vista; i definitely KNOW it wouldn't be able to handle 7 without upgrading processor and mobo/audio/sound cards...basically gutting and installing "modern" hardware.

actually, my next pc is going to be a Mac since i can also run XP on the Mac. just found that out and looking forward to it.

rhetorical question: why would you want THOSE 3? i could understand 98, XP & 7, just not the Vista (or ME, for that matter).

I purchased the $40 Cdn copy of Windows 8 Pro that Microsoft offered when 8 first was coming out. It was fulfilled by Arvato Digital Services, a company that Microsoft uses for these purposes. That product key activated fine and was upgraded to Windows 8.1

I am now trying to upgrade to Windows 10 and it refuses to accept the product key I was supplied. I tried to back out of the install and even with the memory stick removed it still tries to continue the install. I've tried both a clean install and an upgrade and it keeps rejecting the product key.

Has anyone run into this before and if so what might be the fix?
Thanks.

Answer:Windows 10 won't accept Product Key from Arvato supplied Windows 8 Pro

You must do the upgrade first - do not put any key in at all. Hit the bypass [skip]. If your 8.1 is activated then sometime after you get 10 installed it will activate . Once that gets activated you can then do a clean install. The license will be tied to your computer hardware.

Hello all! Bit of an issue I am looking for some advice on. I have recently bought a used Y510P with SLI GT750's- very excited about it naturally. The seller promised that it would be restored back to windows 8 and it is clear he has done this, the laptop has come with Win 8 Pro installed on it. However this is where the problems begin. Upon starting the computer and reaching desktop it asks me to activate windows. I go to do this and it comes up with an error that the Product Key is blocked? I then went through Microsoft's phone activation and again the same result Product Key Blocked. I then spoke to a human and went through the process again and yes the Product Key is blocked. They suggested I contact Lenovo. I understand that currently Win 8 product Keys are stored in the BIOS to prevent people stealing Product Keys. Though it would appear that has happened in my case? Therefore it would appear to me that the answer is to obtain a new Product Key for Win 8 Pro and activate that way? If so will the new Product Key overwrite the one stored in the BIOS? Will there be any problems in the future i.e. when I update to Win 8.1 and then Win 10 following this approach? I also don't think it is necessary to reinstall Win 8 Pro on the laptop as it is already there just not activated is this also correct? If there is anything obvious I am missing please let me know I am obviously very frustrated by this.

Answer:Y510P Windows Product Key Blocked?

Check what version is really pre-installed in the unit by going into the bios. Under information you should see the License info.

HP DX2450 Microtower. This system comes with HP branded Windows XP install disk and a restore disk(among others). I wanted to perform a repair install on XP. Inserted the HP restore disk, system reported it sees a valid restore disk and ask for the Windows install disk. I put in the HP Windows XP disk, when it got to "install Windows" , I chose "repair an existing XP installation". When it finished installing, it ask for the product ID. I looked on the CD, in the i386 folder/unattend.txt, bottom line is the product ID. When I put in this key, it tells me it's not a valid key. Now I'm stuck. How can this not be a valid ID when it's on the same disk used to install Windows, and what can I do now?

Answer:Win XP will not accept product key

Often the product key is on a stick attached to the computer.

Originally when XP installed, for pictures, when File\Properties was selected the pane had two tabs: 'General' and 'Summary'. Now only the General tab shows in the pane. The Summary could then be expanded to 'Advanced' which showed all the meta data for the picture, i.e. details of the camera, exposure, f number, etc. This was very useful. The change may have occured when I included a Windows update. I have included all the Windows updates available for XP from the Microsoft site. Why is this second tab 'Summary' not now available? Any ideas or suggestions most welcome.

At the top left, click Registry, Export registry file, and save it as ClassesRoot.reg, at a location you remember. Exit Regedit. Then go to image.reg file. Right click and select Merge. I'm currently posting this from my phone so forgive me for any typos. I was playing a session of Overwatch when suddenly my laptop just shutdown. I then caught a whiff of a burning smell and couldn't detect if it was coming off the laptop. I was still able to start the laptop back up, but I noticed that the battery was draining despite having the AC adapter plugged in. It detected the AC adapter even, as it was in high performance mode... I just figured that the AC adapter was fried as despite being plugged in for a while after, it never got warm. So I went on amazon and ordered a replacement adapter. It's a 45N0112 adapter, an official Lenovo one. Tried to plug it in as of now, and I get nothing.  Battery led doesn't even blink. Tried the drain thing and it doesn't work. Removed the battery and tried to see if it would work of AC alone and I got nothing as well.  The odd thing is that when I plug in the old adapter, the led for the battery blinks but it hardly provides charge. I can still start up my laptop with what little charge is left so I'm safe to assume it's not a motherboard issue? What the heck is really going on? I saw all over that a 45N0112 adapter works for y510p as well, and the adapter I bought on amazon was from Lenovo for the y510p itself. Could it be I got a faulty adapter or is my motherboards input voltage gone to whack? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've never had any problems with this laptop, but this is... Read more

Hi, I just got a ton of new parts in my pc (everything is new except the PSU, the HDD, and the video card). I upgraded to a 64-bit system, and bought a Windows XP x64 retail from my local Staples. Everything installed fine, until I got to the part where you define your locale, keyboard type, enter product key, etc. The part after setup has copied all of the files to the disk, its just finishing the installation. So when it asked for the product key I entered the one from the booklet that came in the box. It said: "The Product Id you entered is not valid.". So I typed it again, carefully checking each box to make sure I didn't enter it incorrectly. Then I pressed Next, and still the same error message. So I checked online and I saw a forum post on another website where someone had about the same problem, that said that the solution is to start the xp install disk again, go to the recovery console and execute the dskpart command. I did so, then proceeded to try reinstalling again, got to the same point and still the product key didn't work. I read somewhere that the product key and the product ID are two different things (from my understanding, one is the numbers that you use to prove you have genuine copy of windows and the other is the installations ID, that really has nothing to do with installing). The window specifically tells me to enter my product key, but the error says the product ID I entered is invalid. I can't afford to buy another key (I heard that Micros... Read more

Answer:[SOLVED] Fresh install of XP, won't accept product key.

It is easy to mistake a 6 for a G . . a 8 for a B . . I would go back and double check that the letters/numbers are being typed acurately.

Unless someone mess with the package, it would be almost impossible for the key not to match the install type.

Coming from Belgium I expected internet connection problems with the Huawei dongle that is used in Ethiopia on my upgraded Win 10 laptop so I copied my original Win 7 Home installation disc with the product key from the DVD box.Sure enough the dongle was not recognised and the software on it did not even load. The computershop tried but did not succeed and advised to go back to windows 7. Using the feature to start from a DVD I installed Windows 7 but when asked for the product key it does not accept it.Maybe some history is necessary to solve the problem. The laptop a Lenovo G50 came with 8.1 installed, but soon after buying it I was lured into the upgrade to Win 10. In neither OSs I could get on, being a longtime Win 7 user. I decided to install Win 7 upgrade, as I still had one of the three licences available. I formatted all discs and tried to install, but did not succeed, my computershop fixed it. (I should have started from Vista they said). Then decided to take the risk and just before my extended stay in Ethiopia to do what Microsoft suggested and again updated to Win 10.Now I am left with a laptop that asks for a valid product key and keeps asking so after a restart. Booting from another DVD is not possible, I would have put Ubuntu on it !!! What are the possibilities ?message edited by willem1933

Answer:G50-30 - Missing Windows Product Key

Hi Dosihris ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Starting with Windows 8 onwards , product key for OEM preloaded computer would no longer be seen on the COA sticker and would just inform of the Windows version it came with .

As some software would try to recover those keys , it may not always work as it is embedded on the chips of the motherboard using Activation 3.0 .

Verify that all updates are done on the preloaded windows 7 sp1 / windows8.1 to avail of the free upgrade to windows 10 . Part of those updates would automatically offer you the Windows 10 upgrade .

Additional reference guide here , already checked G50-30 with windows 8.1 is eligible for the said upgrade.
If you just upgrade it with a Win10 installer , most likely it would treat it as not part of the free upgrade similar to a retail version installation.

Update us how it is on your system.

Regards

When I bought my y501p it had Windows 8.1 core installed on it. I had retreived the product key using a tool I found somewhere around this forum. After a week, I installed windows 8.1 pro (clean install) on the laptop with a different activation key as the "core" key didnt work on the "pro" version. Now i want to do another clean install but this time a "core" version install. Ive downloaded an ISO (core 8.1 Update 1) and created a UEFI enabled bootable USB ( i am currently on legacy). Now the installation asks me for a product key and wont accept the key of my original "core" windows.  Isnt the installation supposed to automatically retrieve the key from the BIOS? and why is my old key not working? What could I be doing wrong? Is this because the ISO is the Update 1 ISO?  Thank you for taking the time to read this. I would really appreciate any help I could get.

Answer:Y510P Win 8.1 installation asks for product key.

Try using a generic key instead for the installation and use the OEM key for activation.

Hi everyone. First of all, I am new here, so I am not familiar if my issue was discussed before (if so, kindly provide me with a link to the topic so I can refer to that instead). Anyway, as the subject suggests, I recently restored the Windows 8.1 system partition of my Y510p using OneKey Recovery 8 (OKR) and a user-created backup. The reason as to why I used a user-created backup is because I made the stupid mistake of wiping all 6 partitions in my HDD for reasons that I will no longer elaborate here. I found a way to restore the 6 partitions (although I am not aware if the data for hidden partitions were restored properly [Might help: D:\ is empty and missing initial backup]) and OKR functionality by using a bootable usb that restored OKR. After restoring OKR functionality, I installed a Windows 8.1 OS into the laptop. Without activating it, I resized the partitions to their original sizes (the sizes of the partitions when I first obtained the laptop) using AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard Edition and ran OKR in order to restore the system partition C:\ using my backup. After restoring the system partition, I went to OKR Recovery Mode to ensure that I am still missing my initial backup (half-expecting this but I'd like to verify as much as possible). While I have no qualms with what I have right now (the entire ordeal of figuring out how to put my laptop back to working order has drained much of me), I would like to know the following: 1.) Neither of which are remotely accurate. How do I change them? I have tried removing and reloading an updated version (of each) with no joy.
Any ideas?

Answer:Desktop Assistant and Service Station showing wrong product details

> As it says in the title SN shows as 000000 and part number as Ver. 1.

What serial number and part number (model number???) do you mean exactly?
Do you mean the notebook?s serial and model number?

These details are part of the DMI string.
Usually after the mainboard exchange such DMI string needs to be updated using correct data.
In case the DMI will not be updated, the data like serial number and others will not be shown correctly.

In short I own a repair shop and a customer recently brought in a laptop that they had factory reset due to problems they had with a virus. However upon the factory reset completing their copy of Windows would not activate.I've looked up and down over this thing and have not ran into something like this before. It does not have a CoA, it has the sticker that denotes it is Windows 8 Home 64 only. The bottom of the laptop has printed on the casing "Product key and regulatory marks under battery bay". However there is no key only regulatory marks. I've also checked the BIOS there is no MSDM Table and the key is not embedded. On suggestion from a friend I also looked in the Ram/Hard Drive bay but there was no CoA information there either.I called HP support, explained the issue in detail the support operator did not seem to understand english. He then decided it was easiest to tell me that the computer was not under warranty he could not help me and I had to be transfered to "out of warranty support". Of course he did this before I could object and was passed off to the dreaded "You will be charged 59 dollars minimum for help with 1 issue" message before being disconnected. I've tried the Microsoft phone activation, but because system restore is putting in the generic key it won't even offer to let me speak to a representative (nor is this really Microsoft's fault/problem).Obviously I don't know the entire history of the computer but I do know it's a one owner machine. OK, so basically that key works the same as a W7 OEM VLK which can't be used to activate windows either. I read the link you posted and as you know, this is a peer to peer forum, so there isn't much we can do directly to resolve matters that HP would have to deal with. But I will ask a forum moderator to escalate this thread, which means that they will ask a representative from HP to contact you via the forum private message system. You will receive a reply to this thread from a forum moderator, once they have acknowledged my escalation request. You will then be notified by an e-mail when someone from HP sends you a private message. I wouldn't expect to see any private messages until Monday at the earliest. And hopefully whatever they did for that other person, they can do for you too.

Hi everyone,i'm about to buy the ideapad y510p, it seems to have great specifications and a nice price, online. I'm going to buy it from some resellers here in italy, but i'm a little confused by the product number, as the idea pad y510p ships with  two different product numbers (at least here in italy)  :  59408475 or 59414919. Does anyone know if there's any difference between them? thanks for any hint (and sorry for the question "too much localized" )

Answer:ideapad y510p versions and product codes

I think the product codes are to diffrentiate between the specs of various models, though it seems almost impossible to track down each code and what spec they are assigned to.My advice would be to compare the spec of both and choose the one that fits your needs best. Ask yourself do you need more memory? Or two graphics cards? Or maybe you want the Y510p model with the 24GB SSD on top of the 1TB HDD?

I'm trying to do a clean install of Win 7. First off, it's not under the battery.  I checked and only my SN is there. Next, I used a key finder and it only shows me the Lenovo OEM key, which is worthless.  I then called tech support and they told me that the product key that would have been on the stick is just the OEM key anyway.  I'm pretty sure that's not true since each system comes with a real license.  Any ideas on how I can get my product key or am I just SOL?  Edit:  Well, it looks like it came with Win 8 since it has the Win 8 sticker and the discs for Win 8, but i don't know why Lenovo put a Win 7 image on there with all their junk.  This means I have to reinstall Win 8, then downgrade it to Win 7.  Fun times.

Answer:E535 Missing Windows 7 Product Key sticker

If you purchased it with Win 8 and downgrade rights to Win 7 then Lenovo is doing exactly what Microsoft wanted them to do. Unless you backed up your Win 7 installation you must install Windows 8 and then install Windows 7 over it. You may need a license key to force Windows 7 to install. You can use any key, including one that is currently in use by another machine. You may then need to phone in for a one-time activation code.

Next time, back up / create recovery disks for your Win 7 install so you don't have to go through the process.

Sometime ago a friend received as a present a used computer.

As he does not have an Operating System CD, he wants to get a copy of it.

The problem is that he does not have a Product key.

Please let me know how to get the product key so he can order the CD from Microsoft.

Thank you.

Answer:Solved: Windows Vista Product key is missing

Hi,

If there is a brand and model of PC please post that information.

There should be a Microsoft label with the version of operating system (Windows Vista) and the Product Key- label
can be on either side or rear of a tower type, or on underneath for notebooks. Is there a label like that?

I need a little help with something that seems simple. I am using Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit. I have changed the columns in Details view in a folder. However Windows is not populating those columns, so what am I missing? This holds true on both my network drives and my local drives, so I checked my indexing options and they are set to index my local drives, so I assumed that should have at least worked. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Answer:Windows 7 Details View not showing details/data

Welcome to Seven Forums JLH1. Try this:

Right click an empty area in that folder> Sort by> More

Scroll down the list and make sure the categories you want are checked> OK

For Windows 7, is there a list of the 'Details' available in the Windows Explorer folder view called 'Details' which has an explanation for each of them? Most of them are simple but some leave me scratching my head.

Answer:explanation of 'Details' in Windows Explorer 'Details' view

The "Details" which are available are those you see when a list of files is in "Details" view (as opposed to "Icons" or "Tiles" views. In "Details" view, depending on which column categories you have enabled, you are shown such things as filesize, file-date, filetype etc. If you then right-click any column header, you can choose to hide or show more information columns.I can't see how any of that can leave you scratching your head as it's no different to previous versions of Windows in that respect.

Alright, apparently I've reached my quota on reinstalls for my legal version of XP. Basically I can't use the windowsupdate website, but I can still use the automatic updates. Is there anyway to sort this out? Only reason I ask is I'm still a student and can get a copy of XP Pro with SP2 for $67 and if I play my cards right I should be able to get a copy for even cheaper. I just have to pretend I'm a EE or Comp Sci major for awhile .

Let me know if anyone has run into this.

Bought a PC last October from a company called Maxxx Computers. The computer came with Windows 10. I am now getting a warning message "your windows license will expire soon". When I try to input the product key that I was provided with my computer, I get an error message that I am not connected to my organizations server and a code 0xc004f074. I have tried to contact the vendor, but I not having any luck with that.

Have purchased many Windows computers but I have never experienced a license expiring. What type of license did I buy? Does this mean I need to purchase a license if I can't make the vendor fix this problem?

Answer:Windows License Expiring

Sounds like they used a Volume License key, and not an OEM key.

You just have to keep trying to get in touch with them.

Hi When you say you did the upgrade, did you? OR did the Win 8.1 OS do it? A licence / activation is done automatically when the OS upgrades itself to W 10, the system / mother board is registered. If it is done manually then you will have to buy a licence I think. So a few more details please.

I installed windows 10 when it first was released, but recently I had to do a clean wipe (still on windows 10) of my laptop and things have started to go wrong. I can't go back to windows 8.1 because of the clean wipe (I regret doing this). Here's a list: 1) The mouse freezes for a couple seconds every minute or so. What happens is I can move the mouse, but it'll freeze for a couple a seconds-meaning I can't move it, but clicking still works-and finally it'll start working again. 2) My Nvidia control panel and GeForce experience are missing. 3) I can't go into additional mouse settings. What I mean by this is when I go into mouse and touchpad settings, there is a button that says "additional mouse settings" at the bottom of the page, but it says that "windows cannot access the device, path, or file. You might not have the permissions to access." 4) Laptop sometime freezes on the log-in screen (The one before you type in your password with the pictures of scenery and the time. Sometimes it goes into a blue screen and shows a "watchdog violation" error and restarts my computer and sends info to Microsoft (which I don't want it to do and don't know how to turn off). All this happens when I close my laptop, even if still has full battery. 5) Wifi very rarely just shuts off, even though my roommates laptops are still working. This doesn't happen very often but it's annoying. There might be more that I haven't noticed yet. Any help would be greatl... Read more

I have several questions about what I should do. The answers I get are all over the map. So, I respect the knowledge base here and would like to know your thoughts.

1. My understanding is the offer is expiring January 31, 2013. Is it really going to expire? Or are they just going to extend it it some form, whether that is simply extending the current offers deadline or creating a different, but similar offer.

I purchased the MYDIGITALSSD M.2 256GB SSD to replace the 24GB M.2 that originally came with my Y510P.

I completed the upgrade and re-installed Windows 10 (on the ssd) and use the 1TB drive purely as storage, and re-downloaded all of the necessary drivers for the laptop.

Ever since then, i experience 3-4 system freezes daily. I am not able to get to task manager, just get a complete system hang and i have no choice but to restart the pc. It typically starts with one application, then after a few seconds, everything will freeze and become unusable.

Does anyone have any advice on this? i read about someone having a similar issue a really long time ago but i cant remember where and can't find any info on this specific problem. It's driving me crazy though and i'd appreciate any advice or troubleshooting tips offered.

thanks everyone.

I am fairly experienced with computers, but made the mistake of trusting google and friends when I found a file called kbdcap.sys throwing out errors in my event log and googling for answers finding many many people saying it was kido worm and not a legit extremely important file. I'm not 100% sure this is the issue but now that I seen a file saying it controls your input devices, I'm fairly positive that is the file I need to restore.

Long story short, I deleted the file from C:\Windows\SysWOW64\drivers. I also installed malwarebytes and did scans and found my system to be fairly clean, which is odd considering it takes 10 minutes to boot with selective boot enabled and many things turned off. I guess that's just Windows for you eh?

I need some help getting this file back, either through means of un-delete, or download. I am looking through my hard drive's temp files and firefox cache because I had uploaded it to a site to scan it, so I'm hoping a copy might still exist somewhere. It is doubtful though. :/

As per test, I was able to use cmd in windows recovery area to rename the install directory of Malwarebytes to something else, to prevent it from being allowed to boot anymore. This did not fix the issue, which is the reason I think this .sys file is my only hope now. System restores do not work, they are all corrupted or deleted, as it says each time. Can anyone help me?

I just need that original file again so I can put it back and my syste... Read more

Answer:[SOLVED] kbdcap.sys missing and PC won't accept any input anymore

Try this

Reboot or turn on the machine. As soon as you see your machine's name logo splash screen keep tapping F8. Go to "Advanced Options" or "Repair Computer" Select your language then "Repair Your Computer" An installation of Windows should be detected after that select "Next" Then "Next" again go to command prompt and type in, then hit enter.

Make system repairs from the Windows Recovery Environment (from Windows Vista Inside Out)
the illustrations will work for Windows 7 as well.

Code:
sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows
Malwarebytes may have detected kbdcap.sys as a faults positive. i believe through malwarebytes you can exclude that file.

I'm not sure if anyone remembers this thread, but the same issue seems to have cropped up again for me in Windows 10.

Basically in device manager my second 750m graphics card is throwing a code 43 error and no SLI options display under Nvidia control panel. Has anyone here had any success getting this to work?

I actually got it to work for one night by installing drivers in a certain order, but then it started screwing up after I turned my PC on the next day so I had todo a system restore (which broke it again). After that I couldn't figure out what I did again.

It worked in Windows 8.1 after the BIOS update from that thread. I know Lenovo has decided to not support Windows 10 for this model, so I'm thinking about just going back to 8.1 in case Nvidia and Microsoft never manage to fix this.

Answer:Y510P - GPU error - "Code 43" after Windows 10 upgrade for Y510P, SLI not working

I am really skeptical on how gaming will keep working on windows 10, if Microsoft is constantly pushing updates.

I dont think you did anything wrong but quite possibly windows applied updates that threw the setup in error. I do not have a solution but yes my recommendation is to revert back to Win 8.1 (if you are an avid gamer).

You could try a re-install of windows 10 and disable individual updates (using a microsoft tool) but I think its too much effort to just get it working.

Hello,

I have a laptop that is reporting the the license is about to expire on startup. It then asks to go to settings to active. The settings page then reports that windows is already activated and shows no counter or any signs that it is indeed expiring. I have seen ShowKeyPlus being referenced in a couple of similar posts but I'm not quite sure what I'm looking at. I have attached a few screenshots showing the error as well as the information obtained from ShowKeyPlus.

O/S: Win7 Starter on a Samsung notebook.

Whilst trying to fix a file/folder problem, which was the subject of my first post here, I tried using the above software but couldn't procede with it because the "Accept" button wasn't visible on the GUI. The same applies to other versions of Fixit on this laptop

This is what it should look like:

Mine cuts off just below the image of the guy with the wrench at any screen resolution.
But it is a defined cut off, it isn't the bottom edge disappearing off screen out of view.

Pressing Enter just opens the web link on the interface.

This is a small notebook and to compensate for the screen size I have the dpi up at 140
for easy reading so I tried reducing it to default and logging off/restarting but it remains stuck there for some reason.

Now I don't know if rectifying the stuck dpi setting will bring the Fixit "accept" or "cancel" buttons back into view because I haven't had such a problem with other softs.

I tried the software "resize enable" but the Fixit GUI doesn't want to play ball and won't resize.

No restore point corrects this and I have extensively scanned for malware -none.

Answer:Microsoft Fixit - Accept button missing / dpi setting stuck

I had one of those Samsung Netbooks. There were some tweaks on the internet a couple of years ago, about the screen size/resolution. Do a seach, that may help your situation.

I didn't keep the Netbook very long, and moved to a 'real" laptop.

However, your problem with the Microsoft Fixit. I've never fixed something with that. It always required something other than the fixit program.

Answer:Details tab missing in properties!

You may want to carry out a virus scan, for which Malwarebytes is eminently suitable: Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware PRO removes malware including viruses, spyware, worms and trojans, plus it protects your computer

Your user account may be corrupted so you could try creating a new account to see whether that has the same problem.

The Links details on my IE7 Toolbar have suddenly gone missing. The word Links is still on the left hand side of the space for the toolbar but it is completely inactive when I click on it or anywhere else in the bar area. Neither can I drag URLs to this area. Under Tools the Link option is ticked & Lock the Toolbars is unticked. Does anyone have any ideas on how this has happened & how it can be rectified?

Answer:Link details missing

If Lock Toolbars isn't ticked then you should have a faint vertical line to the left of the word Links. If you hover your cursor over this it should change to a double headed arrow and you should then be able to drag the links area out or move it onto another toolbar.

Hi,

I need your help. First, today my sister told me that the house power outage and the pc shut down and when I got home from work I turn on the pc and I got a missing drivers. the screen that tell you what you want to do when you get inappropriate shutdown - safe mode, start windows normally, etc... screen. i have windows win 7 64 bit with sp1 retail. so I selected start windows normally, but I get a screen that tell me about a missing or corrupt file. \windows\system32\drivers\ndis.sys and status: 0xC000032 (hope i remember it right)
So I didn't think that a electrical outage will cause a serious problem to the file vdrvroot.sys file.

i even tried with option start with last good known configuration and still get same problem.

so I load windows 7 dvd and went into repair computer and lets the thing auto fix for couple time and reboots and still get same problem.

so this time i didn't let the program auto fix and i browse my directory and I went into /windows/system32/config and change the name of software file and system fil to software.old and system.old and then i went to /windows/system32/config/regback and copy the software and system files and paste it to /system32/config and restart my pc and it booted in pass that missing vdrvroot missing file error(not sure if i did more auto fix by windows 7 repair by disk). anyway, when it log in screen. i got a pop up that say LogOnUI.exe error, like file is missing and NSDIS.SYS is missing.

so i ha... Read more

My mothers laptop is an HP G56 model and for some odd reason it has suddenly started asking for her Windows 7 product key. I know where the product key is located, but the first four keys have faded off. Is there any way to try and find a different product key that might work? or is there a chance of trying to find ours?

Answer:Windows 7 Product Key problems

and welcome to the Forum

You can try Belarcc Advisor . . compare the last set ofnumbers and if they match you can use the first set it reports . . but OEM machines often report a different key than the one on the sticker

hello, if anyone can help me out, it would be fantastic.

here's the rundown of what's going on with my computer:
I installed these programs that create a virtual drive on your computer (install drivers and all) so that you can burn cds to the image drives. There were three in all, one was called "noteburner" and another called "sharedrm.." the other i dont remember at all but its icon was an ipod looking thing i think.
i uninstalled these programs and restarted my computer
upon restarting computer, the loading of windows lagged for a long time and then eventually the comp would just restart.
i also started getting the blue screen of death (fatal error) here and there.
after some working around with the computer i managed to get it to boot up again to find that i no longer had sound and my ethernet adapter was not working. Also, the drivers for those virtual drive programs were still in my device manager and in the registry.. i manually deleted all of them and everything from my registry with their names. (i contacted their techservs - and they had no idea)
also, it createed a driver in the network adapters tab called "direct parallel" which i deleted raspti.sys and ptlink.sys (it's two driverfiles) manually - everytime i tried to uninstall normally, there was a message that said "cannot unistall, this device may be needed for the computer to boot" - somewhere in the mess of things i ended up reinstalling service pack 2 as... Answer:I have: No sound, no ethernet (wont accept drivers), missing startup files...etc

Try re-installing windows from your Installation CD but instead of doing an Install (after The F8 agreement prompt) you'll select to repair the installation that it finds on your Hard Drive.
Have your Reg Key handy since it will want this too. It will Re-install the hardware drivers without affecting your installed software or the registries

Anyone know what's causing this? Thanks.

I have this problem with the vista details pane and I have not been able to find any solution. I have Windows Vista 32 bit Home Premium version. The problem is that:
1. My details pane is missing a lot of properties/tags . Only ones that are appearing are file date, file name, dated created.
2. When I go into a MP3 folder, same thing happens as I described in 1. Just the 4 tags appear and I don?t get any other tags that used to be there like artist name, rating, title, etc.
3. I cannot edit any Tag in the details pane. When everthing was working fine, I could go in the MP3 folder , I could edit the title, ratings etc. and Save it. But now I can?t do anything, the save button does not appear and the tags don?t go in edit mode.
Up till now I have tried the following solutions:
1. I have reset all the folder options in Vista by going to Folders/tools/reset defaults. (did not work)
2. After resetting the folders, I have also turned on the details pane option under Organize/Layout and the details under the Views. (did not work)
3. Under View, in the tool bar, I went to Customize This Folder and chose the Music Folder Option, All Items etc. (did not work)
4. Then on the Microsoft site, I found this solution ? Open Documents by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Documents., and click a file to apply properties. Then In the Details pane at the bottom of the folder window, click the property that you want to change, type the new property in the Tags.? But it did not work ei... Read more

Answer:Missing Properties/Tags in Details Pane

hello

Is this only for mp3 files?

You said "when everything was working fine" what happened? did you download a new program? (itunes, vlc)

If it wasn't that long ago, you could try system restore.

Did you use a "registry cleaner" or an "optimizer"?

On the properties window, general tab, what is it set to "open with"?

good luck

Until recently, when using Windows Explorer, I was able to right click on an mp3 file, select properties, then the details tab and thus be able to see title, artist, album and other information. Now when I right click, I don't get the details tab (for any type file). What could have changed? Thanks

Answer:Win7 Explorer file Details tab missing?

A Windows update may have changed the options for security or stability reasons. The effect may not have been their direct intention, but a result of 'fixing' something else. You can still get this information in Windows Media player (or what ever they are calling it these days) or in Real Player. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane. This site is about helping people, lets keep it that way.

I recently used IOBit uninstaller to remove all traces of a program from the registry. I'm assuming it removed something that caused this issue, because after I used it all my program information in Add/Remove programs was missing. However, other users on my PC show all information in Add/Remove programs. Is there a way to repopulate this or would I have to create a new user? Thank you

Answer:Missing Program information/details in Add/Remove programs

Use a restore point before this happened.

I have a Lumia Icon and vcards sent to me via text do not come through with all of the contact info that is sent. I've had several iphone users that I know try it and some info comes through but not all. Typically email addresses and street addresses don't come through. Why doesn't this work and will the WP 8.1 /Denim update fix it? I run a business and I need this functionality to work correctly. It's embarrassing to ask someone to email a contact because my phone can't recognize it. I love Windows Phone, but my business can't suffer because of it. Anyone else have this issue? I'm seriously thinking about returning my new Icon for a Droid Turbo or iPhone because of this.

Answer:Why am I missing contact details when receiving contacts thru text/SMS?

If a drawback in your phone affects your business then its better returning it and getting what works best for you

Hi thererecently had to reinstall windows 7 professional because i have a virus on my laptop preventing internet access.I'm now going through the long process of installing all the drivers again, but they aren't working for some reason. I can't access my webcam (when I press Fn + F6 nothing happens), the brightness buttons (FN + f8/f9), the volume buttons on the right hand side work but nothing comes up on the screen. the only driver that seems to have installed properly is access connections. I have installed all the drivers I thought I would need from the website but none of them have had any affect (apart from access connections). I also cannot correct the screen resolution, it is the wrong one but i can only choose from 1024 x 768, 960 x 600 and 800 x 600 on the windows screen resolution settings. i think my resolution should be 1366 x 768. please help!!  my dissertation is due in a few days and i need a working laptop to write on. thanks for reading.

I have had this laptop for a little while now and I have started to notice these problems a while back but never really did anything about it until it recently started to really bug me.   Problems:My screen goes black after about 1 min of non-use and the only way to wake it up is to hold the power button because even moving or clicking the mouse or pressing anything on the keyboard does not work.  (yes, I have checked all the power options and power & sleep settings and they are all on 10 mins to sleep and 20 to hibernate so that is not the issue; yes, I have checked if it is the screen saver so thats not it either).  When the laptop goes black or to sleep or hibernate as formentioned, the laptop acts as if it restarts and does the whole start up process and sometimes even does windows updates randomly!  (yes, I have checked if automatic updates; it IS turned off but it still does it on its own for some reason) When I close my laptop without shutting down to go do something else for a bit, come back to it and open my laptop I have to press the power button to power it on and it acts as if it shut down and does the whole startup process and even windows updates too.  (yes, I have gone to the setting "chose what closing the lid does" and made sure it is on the sleep setting; again, made sure automatic windows updates are turned OFF)When this closing lid thing happens, it closes all my programs and browers too, so when I reopen chrome it wo... Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 14 - Windows 10 Product 20DM000VUS startup problems and more HELP!

Hi TKlam I have a Thinkpad Yoga 14  - 20DM008UUS. It is very similar. On Windows 10 I haven't experienced all the stuff you are talking about, but it took me some time to stabilize Windows 10 on this machine. I had to update the drivers to have it stabilized without issues: Are you confortable installing and uninstalling drivers on Windows? If you want to to do this I can recommend you:1) Check the Windows update (Settings - Update and Security) for any driver or Windows update it may have.2)  Run Lenovo System update and update any drivers / BIOS that is may have.3) Instal "Lenovo Settings" is may be a long install for the depencies that it has to download, after that it also has some updates. Check specially for any of the "power related driver" updates, but it is good that you also update all the drivers from time to time. I know it is a nag to go updating Windows and rebooting, but I found it usefull to stabilize my Windows 10 installation on this machine. Regards
