Lenovo Z580 Screen brightness issue

Question: Lenovo Z580 Screen brightness issue

Hi, whenever i go to change the brightness it's really bright from the second setting to the top setting but when i put it on the lowest setting the screen gets really dim thats it's really difficult to see. It's annoying because i would like a brightness inbetween the two becasue at the moment its either too bright or too dim. any help? I'm using windows 7 home premium 64 bit and intel hd 4000 graphics if that helps. thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So I was just randomly watching a video... laying down and I reach up to turn it up and I hit a button and bam... my entire screen just goes as dark as possible. I keep trying to hit buttons and hope I hit that same button and turn it back on and nothing... So many F button and no idea what they do. Any idea how to fix this? F+ up and down and Brightness keys dont do anything. I can still read the screen... its just very dark.

Hello guys.

I also have a Y560 - os Win7 64b. Same problems as those presented above. I recently upgraded to BIOS 71 and the message to refresh the windows performance index was not present anymore.

However I have seen that lenovo energy management is going mad. It doesn't change anymore the brightness if you have the laptop plugged in or running on battery. At the same time it changes its settings by itself. Anyone else having this problem? I went back to BIOS 59 and the problem is gone.

Thank you,

I have big problem with this new laptop N581, because Lenovo Power managment does not work with Intel HD graphics. I can not change brigtness control (FN+Up or Down) because the bar stays still.  I tested with  Lenovo 6/7/8 Power managment and different Intel HD graphics drivers, with no luck. OS : W7 Home Premium 64bit   I have 2 new Lenovo Ideapad N581 laptops and both have the same problem.

Hello, many a times it may happen that some windows update tinkers with the screen brightness settings of the laptop. In such a case the the screen brightness would become dismally low and it would seem that the screen is not 'waking up'. The best remedy is to proceed with a system restore. Ensure that you choose an appropriate restore point so as to undo any recent updates especially from the time you have been experiencing screen brightness difficulties.

There appears to be an issue with the  Intel  graphics driver. The screen brightness control in Windows 8 settings does not work. According to Intel this is a responsibility of Lenovo (other OEM's like HP are having the same issue with the brightness control) I have upgraded to the very latest Intel Windows 8 64 bit driver dated October 23rd and still cannot brighten or dim the screen. Any suggestions?

Answer:Z580 screen brightness control in Windows 8 (64 bit) settings does not work

Looking on the Intel communities board "Intel 4000 Brightness not working for Windows 8" thread. Does the ideapad Z580 have an "embedded brightness controller"? Does this mean it is a Lenovo issue if so?  Are lenovo working on a fix and how long do you estimate it to take if so?

Hi
I have Dell Inspiron13 7000 series laptop.Everything was working fine until 2 weeks back.
Suddenly I wasn't able to use F11/F12 keys to controll brightness.Even if I clicked I wasn't getting the actual brightness bar.I checked some blogs and youtube videos, which helped me and it fixed my issue.
Suddenly after almost a week or so, I am getting another issue.I can scroll up or down the brightness however it doesn't change any brightness level.Right now it is too bright but I can't change it.
Has anyone been facing this issue or resolved this?
Laptop was in perfectly operating condition before.I have been getting these issues recently after regular windows update.

Hi Every one,                    I bought a lenovo Z580 mechine last month. Normally when i checked the screen reolution itshows 1366x768.But when i start a game the screen comes only 1024x740x32 resolution. This gives me very disappointment of showing black bars side so that picture shown only in middle. Can some one please tell me what is the problem. My system specifications are as follows. i5 3rd gen processor,6 Gb Ram,2 GB Nvidia geforce gt640M Graphic Card,750 GB Hard disk.                          Thanks in advance.

Answer:Need help for Lenovo z580 display issue

You shouldnt be dissapointed as every thing is fine. The black bars on side would stop coming if you resolution to the dedired in the graphic settings. It would be se for any resolution less than 1366x768.

Now, I know there are like, 4 similar posts, however I've tried all of the solutions. I'm trying to boot from a chrome OS boot usb that I know works. I know I'm on secure boot and legacy is off so I go to try and boot into uefi to change that, however whenever I do it hangs for the longest time then skips straight to the onekey recovery. Tried different ways of booting to it, nothing. Tried just booting the USB drive but of course it won't boot as I'm still on secure boot with legacy off. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Lenovo Z580 Boot Issue

Have you tried booting from a DVD.  If not the its easy. When the computer starts up press F10.  It will give you boot options. Select the one qith the optical drive. While installing I advise you that you should make a partition of the Hard disk.  Well do you have SSD in your laptop. If yes then how much space it provides you?  Make some research and theen use the SSD for installing Windows.  Try this thing out. Hope it will work for you.

The adaptor don't work when I connect it to a plug port at home but it works in the service shop. When I tried to switch on the adaptor in one of my friends home, again it didn't get on. hi nairajin,

Welcome to the Community.

Is there any specific error message when you're not able to transfer anymore files thru bluetooth?

To verify if the bluetooth driver is causing the issue, try to:
1. navigate to Control Panel > Programs / Programs and Features and uninstall the Bluetooth Driver and reboot.
2. Open device manager and bluetooth device should look something like this:

3. Pair the device and try to send some files again
4. If the issue is solved, try to update Bluetooth Driver and observe

Hello everybody Kindly ask you to help me out. Any help would be appriciated. The laptop Lenovo Z580 runs Windows 8.1. It has Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter. And it doesn't want to work with Edimax BR 6428-ns router on N band. Nothing gives any result. I tried the following: - enabling WMM- enabling QoS- switching to WPA2/AES encryption (shows network is limited when using this option)- switiching to WPA2 mixed encryption (shows network is limited when using this option)- switiching to WEP encryption- disabling encryption- changing from Auto 20/40 MHZ to 20 MHZ channel width - switching to N band only in router settings (shows network is limited when using this option) The laptop works with WPA (TKIP) encryption in G band only . The max rate speed is 18 Mbit Dwnl/Upl (according to speedtest). I also tried to switch to different channel numbers. No good at all. I installed the latest drivers for Net adapter from Lenovo website. In device manager IBSS Mode shows 802.11b/g Auto without N mode. When rolling back the driver to Microsoft driver the N mode appears in IBSS mode - 802.11b/g/n Auto. However it doesn't help. Any ideas how to fix it?

Hi,I have a problem with my Lenovi Ideapad Z580. Below you can see the hardware specifications. My problem is that laptop is lagging (freezing) whenever I run movies, listen to music, youtube, basically while doing anything. It happens randomly, lasts only for few moments (like a scratchy noise). I do not need to restart computer, but it's very annoying and concerning, especially because the machine is only few months old and I would say, quite powerful. Just to give you some information in regards to what I tried so far:  - I checked processes in task manager whenever lagging occures > I noticed no issues. I mean, CPU ussage, Disk Usage etc. are all under 30-40-50% (if not less)  - Checked if laptop is overheating - 100% not the case, laptop is cold, normal temperature. I had a similar problem on my old Acer that was overheating, so I would know if this would be the problem - I ran virus scan - let me say that computer came installed with McAffee Security, which I disabled and installed Avast (free), as I read that McAffee can cause Wireless connection problem (which I had by the way...) - Updated Nvidia card drivers Any help, opinion would be appreciated, as I am getting more and more concerned with this issue. LenovoItem Weight2.6 KgProduct Dimensions25 x 37.6 x 3.3 cmBatteries1 Nonstandard Battery batteries required. Hello. There is something wrong with my WiFi, everytime I try to use my internet connection to ie. load YouTube movie or any page it takes ages to do so. I have to HLSW installed, it has function to show latency on your connection, whenever I don't do anything it stays around 15-20ms, but strange thing happens if I try to do anything at all that requires internet connection, even loading simple page takes it up to 1500-2000ms. Oh, and there are more CPUs in home network and they are working fine, so it's not internet provider issue. I wasn't like that from beginning, it started couple of days ago, tried reinstalling drivers couple times, tried looking for solution here, couldn't find any, do any of you have any idea what should I do to fix it?

Well since I've had the laptop I have had wi-fi isses, not related to my router. It is most likely down to the laptops wi-fi internals. I have checked the driver using 'device manager' and it is saying it's up to date. I keep getting 'limited connectivity' and sometimes the internet takes ages. I have turned off the 'turn this device off to save power' in its settings on device manager. Would be helpful for anyone's advice. Answer:SCREEN PROBLEM IN LENOVO Z580

hi ANKITTULI

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

For the Spot you're seeing on the screen
you can look online about Hot pixel/Dead Pixel images and see if that's the same as what you have.
or you can try connecting an external monitor to check if it will still appear and isolate screen issue.
If that's the case Since you have Accidental Protection you should call Lenovo Technical Support for assistance.

About your Gaming Issues
You Computer uses high GPU so a simple powersave can affect the GPU Performance

You can follow these two step
1. Set the power settings to high performance
2. Configure Nvidia Control Panel's "Power management mode" from Adaptive to Maximum Performance - see guide here

Hope this helps,
Cheers!!

I have a Lenovo Z580 since yesterday my laptop screen has gone white , I have tries taking the batteries out and using only the adaptor still it wont workbut it works on external display please help

Answer:lenovo z580 screen goes white

hi jileshz,

Thanks an Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums,

If the display is showing Properly on an External Display, that points to your LCD as the one causing this,
You can Try doing a Power Drain as the first before taking any other step,
Remove tha AC and Battery and hold the power button down for 15 sec.
Then reconnect only the AC Charger and Try.

If your system is still within warranty period you I strongly suggest you call Lenovo Technical Support in your location and have the LCD check and replaced,

-OR-

If your comfortable with reseating some Parts You can check you system Maintenance Manual here, and try reseating the LCD connection you may try other compatible LCD cable aswell,

NOTE:
The system board is sensitive to, and can be damaged by, electrostatic
discharge. Before touching it, establish personal grounding by touching a
ground point with one hand or using an electrostatic discharge (ESD) strap

Hey guys so I just got a brand new Lenovo Y700 laptop yesterday and when I just opened it and was setting it up the display was fine it was like normal. But when I went onto the bed and adjusted the screen (i.e tilted it) it suddenly became extremely dim to the point where I couldn't see anything. The issue with this was that when I shifted the screen back and forth to find a position where the display would work fine it'd go back to normal for awhile before going back to being super dim. My adaptive brightness and auto brightness are turned off i'm not really sure what's the cause of this since its brand new, please give your opinion. Thanks.

Hi stsdeepak,

Welcome to Lenovo Community FOorums!

Based on this Thread which has the same issue. REseating the Connection fixed the problem,

Please try that as it might be just a Loose Connection, Try connecting the Monitor cable firmly.

Hi all! I have an odd issue with my W530. I'm running Windows 8, and adaptive brightness is ticked off. In the intel power manager, adaptive contrast is turned off too.For some reason, the computer's display keeps randomly changing brightness to a lower value whenever dark colors are displayed on the screen. I've tried everything, I still have no clue what to change.  Thank you.

Problem:
Black screen. No BIOS read-outs. Not possible to enter the BIOS menu. CPU fan, hard drive and other indicator lights up and works normally.

Synopsis:
PC starts normally at about every 30 attempts. In this case, the BIOS (F2) or Windows 7 starts normally. Observations suggest that PC will only start when it is completely cold, ie when it has been off for at least 2 hours between 2 start-up attempts. This time can be reduced to about 15 min, if cooling elements are placed on both sides of the motherboard (below the PC, and on top of the keyboard).

What has been studied / tried?
Power supply and connectors - ok.
Battery ok (though worn and should be replaced because it will no longer charge for max capacity).
CMOS battery holds 3V (although volt drops at loads > 5 mA).
Ram, HDD and CPU is tested / changed and found ok.
Motherboards (incl. Graphics chip) has been tested and found ok using various test programs from the official Lenovo Support.
Visual inspection of the motherboard: Nothing to report.
Heating the graphics chip using heat gun (in order to eliminate any cold solder joints) did not solve the problem.
Attempt installation of the latest original BIOS executable file from the Lenovo Support (only possible under Windows) fails:

Error 216 - Failed to read the BIOS from ROM! Status = 1604

Answer:Lenovo Z580 will not start - Black Screen [SOLVED]

I first want to say thank you for such an informative, detailed write-up.  Everything in the procedure worked for me, with no issues, until the (optional) step of "Download and install the latest original BIOS Lenovo Support." I downloaded the Z580 BIOS updater from Link A, released 8/13/2014. Upon attempting the installation of the first file, Public.exe, it appears to be successful, the computer reboots, and then is stuck gets stuck in an infinite boot loop asking to select the boot device. This has been detailed by other users, Link B. If you decide to attempt the Lenovo BIOS update and get stuck in this boot loop, try the following:When the boot device screen comes up, press tab to select Bios OptionsUnder Bios Options, scroll to the rightmost menu and change the boot type from UEFI to Legacy (Link B). This allows the PC to boot, but under a slow legacy debugging mode - things are NOT fixed at this point. Insert your bootable USB key, containing Flash.bat and then restart the computerWhen the computer boots, keep pressing F12 to choose the boot device, and move the USB key to the top of the listThe portable Windows 98 OS will then start from the USB key, and you can reinstall the BIOS from the "Flash.bat" file. Note, I did not have to reactivate Windows after this procedure.  System Specifications:Lenovo Z580, model 2151, manufactured 2012/05/24Core i5-3210M processor2x4 GB RAMIntel HD3000 graphicsWindows 7 home premium 64... Hello, I am having a very big struggle with turning on my laptop to show a display. People have said that I should get a VGA or a HDMI cable and connect it to a monitor so I have done that. Some have said press take out the battery and charger and press the power button for 40 seconds then put the charger and battery back in, that I have tried. Lastly, they have said to press the NOVO button on my laptop (A button that is only on Lenovo laptops) but unfortunately, all of these suggestions have not seemed to help.

The laptop does turn on but the display does not come on so its just a black screen, sometimes though you can get a display and after that when I hibernate or shut the laptop down it will begin to not show the display again unless I am lucky and it turns on. Does anyone here have any other suggestions that could help?

Thanks!

Hello, first post here.I am at lost with this somewhat few month old Lenovo Y40-80 laptop.Everything is working fine, but whenever I unplug it from the charger, the screen goes black. Like totally black...if you needlessly stare at the black screen for a few seconds you can see very very faint background (which is the desktop itself)...and when plugged back in, the brightness comes back alive again.Brightness controls are working well, drivers are updated. I even OneKey recovered my laptop to its initial state but to no avail. Still has the problem. The laptop is currently at factory state, still functional with that brightness being an issue on battery mode.

Answer:(z580) Just wondered what lenovo software will work with the z580 ?

hi mikee77,

The Lenovo Z580 comes with these lenovo pre-installed apps:

Lenovo OneKey RecoveryLenovo OneKey TheaterLenovo Cloud Storage by SugarSyncLenovo Energy ManagementLenovo Companion

The Lenovo Companion is like an app store the features:

Third-Party Apps and Ads
Lenovo products, Tutorials, Application showcases, Lenovo accessories information, Lenovo Cloud, and a link to Lenovo blogs and articles

Most apps listed on the Lenovo Companion will work on the Z580 as long as it meets the system requirements (i.e. If an app is made only for Touchscreen models, then you will need to get the non-touchscreen version or if there's a Utility app that senses temperature on a specific model, make sure Z580 is on the supported models).

Hi,T60p (8742C4G), WinXP Pro SP3 After using ThinkVantage System Update to update to the latest Power management driver (v1.51) and Power Saver 1.47, the brightness of the display has decreased very very much (almost to the lowest level of brightness setting as per before). This behaviour is also affecting external monitors. The mouse pointers have the same brightness as before (much much brighter than any "white" area on the screen, they were the same brightness before). I have been unable to find a setting to control this behavior. This problem is only in Windows, not during boot or safe mode so I think it is safe to say this is a windows driver problem. It is still possible to use the hot keys to decrease and increase the brightness only the highest level is very dark.... Any ideas on how to control this behaviour would be much appreciated. Thanks,Carl

As of 2.21, yea, I get the two steps brightness problem too. But that's not the subject of this post.#1About once every half hour or so, intermittently, my screen begins to get brighter and brighter:I'm not sure if it's a graphics brighter or a backlight issue: and then it seems to"wash out" the black lines in my windows interface, such as this forum's detailing, with more and more whiteuntil only my background and very well defined details are still visible.#2My keyboard "p" key doesn't toggle right anymore. I had lenovo send me a replacement keyboard, but I stripped a screw disassembling the frame and am now afraid of damaging my unit.Someone give me some pointers on how to handle this.#3: Sometimes when restoring from sleep I get the black screen too.I have all my adapters but wireless turned off.#4: The bios needs to have a toggle to mark ram with 7-7-10 timing as unusable. It may be physically compatible and bios compatible but will cause windows to crash, hence, mac ram should be specifically warned against somewhere.#5: the lenovo provided drivers for the mousepad are a real waste of memory. The default microsoft provided drivers actually work better.

I updated my i5, 4gb, Lenovo Twist yesterday evening to Windows 8.1 thru the Windows Store, and so far everything has gone smooth except for these two issues: 1)   The screen brightness at random notches down a few degrees, then back up to full brightness (where I want it)  in the middle of work and this is with the machine plugged in on  either High Performance/ Balanced/ Or Power saver. It gets kind of annoying.. I never had this problem before the update... 2)  On my desktop, in the right corner, I get the little warning embedded in the wallpaper.... I havent touched the Bios or anything!" Windows 8.1       -- SecureBoot isn't configured correctly.       Build 9600"   Further notes:  I have done all the Lenovo System utility Updates before installing: latest BIOS, etc

I am not sure if this is just an issue on my three computers,
I own
Surface Pro 3 (insider)
Surface Pro 4 (non insider)
X1 Carbon 3rd Gen. (insider)
On all three computers when I select the screen brightness button on the keyboard it brings up the slider but doesn't move it up or down. I am able to drag it with a mouse to make it work. Two of the three have insider, and the SP4 doesn't but has the latest update.
Is this just me or everyone else on or after the anniversary update?

I just bought it a monthe ago and immediately saw it but disregarded it since it was not noticeable on higher brightnesses. It is especially more noticeable when the screen displays dark colors (like the starting green screen). The flickering can be barely seen at the lowest level but is distracting at brightness levels 2-7. Is this a widespread issue for Y40's? Thanks

I have been having this issue which I think is the same as yours. My screen will auto adjust its brightness even though the normal fix for that is turned off. I went into the Intel HD Graphics Control Panel > Power > On Battery and disabled Display Power Saving TechnologyMaybe that will work for you?

After upgrading to Windows 8.1 did you install the Windows 8.1 drivers that Lenovo has available for download?  If not then I would download the 8.1 drivers for your model and install them starting with the Chipset driver.  The 8.1 Power Managment driver should resolve a lot of the problems you are experiencing.

According to this pdf data sheet, the Lenovo Z580 that comes with a Windows 7 is a Home Premium edition. If this is what you mean, you can try to do a repair install (see this guide)

Alternatively, if you don't have important data on the machine, consider pressing the OneKey Recovery button to restore the unit from factory settings.

How I can solve this problem.
I have experienced this problem in windows 8.1 and now in windows 7 (I downgrade the system to 7)

I think is not a graphics problem, because if I connect the laptop to a lcd monitor, the line disappears.
The line appears randomly . Sometimes appears for more than 48 hours continuously , and sometimes disappears in 30 minutes. Sometimes appears every day . Sometimes the line does not reappear in 5 or 6 days. But this problem is disgusting , it bothers me a lot .

OK, let me preface this by saying that I repair computers as a hobby, I do know that I'm doing usually.

Given that, I have an issue with screen brightness...

Using FN and F10 does not increase brightness (swap FN with CTRL is disabled in my bios - FN is FN)
The screen brightness indicator when I use the FN F10 key indicates the screen is at max brightness, yet at minimum there is no change in brightness.
My ambient light sensor is disabled so I COULD use the FN key to adjust brightness
I have reinstalled my chipset drivers, flashed my bios and tried damn near everything to get my brightness up.

Currently, my brightness is at minimum, despite my power options saying its full and the onscreen indicator when FN is used telling me the same.

At bootup and in the BIOS I am able to adjust the brightness and it DOES get significantly brighter (and dimmer) when I use the FN keys.

I have scoured the internet and have found nothing relating to my issue as of yet, hopefully someone here can help me out

Side note: I have a Compaq 8710w with Vista Ultimate x64 on it (yes, a legit copy)

All windows updates are done, I have even done what I normally refrain from doing - installing all of the HP / Compaq base software garbage that they like to preload in hopes of remedying my issues with the screen brightness level....

Anyone have any idea what I should do next?

Hi,

I have been facing an issue with my HP G6 1200TX notebook. Currently I am using O/S Windows 7 Ultimate (64bits). There are two buttons in the keypad, one is for lowering the brightness and other is for increasing the brightness of the screen but when I push any one of these two buttons, it shows an image in the center of the screen as "Sun" shaped having a bar however, it is not lowering or increasing the brightness at all. It seems to be intact. I am really wondering why these two buttons are not functioning though it was working fine earlier. I have checked or read so many articles to fix this issue but did not able to reach up to the correction or final solution. I request you to please let me know what exactly happened with these two brightness buttons. Your any suggestion is highly appreciated. Thanks!

This one is a little hard to explain.I should note that this only happens when I am not plugged in with an AC adapter. On my brand new Thinkpad, my screen's backlight will brighten when there is a lighter image on the screen and dim when there is a darker image on the screen. The way it works is when I transition from a lighter image to a darker one, the screen will slightly lower its brightness level about twice a second. It will do this 4-5 time, dimming the screen little by litte. It isn't a lot, the total difference between the 2 brightness level is about 1 brightness leve if I were to adjust it manually. It might even be less. The annoyance is how it changes bit by bit.I'm led to believe that this is actually a feature with the notebook, but I just can't find a way to turn it off.Any help would be greatly appreciated. EDIT: After a ton of fiddling, I finally got it fixed. In case anyone else wants to disable this, you have to go into the control panel, open up Intel GPU options, select Advanced, go to power, change power source to battery, and uncheck the box that says "Display Power Saving Technology"

I surfed around here to many threads on this topic, but theyre all over a month old, so rather than bump an old topic, I'll make a new one. I have been having a screen brightness issue for a couple days now. Whether or not the charger is plugged in, the brightness is stuck, and the Fn key functions for the brightness bring up the little Lenovo brightness slider, but the brightness doesnt change, even though the slider says so. Also when the laptop goes to sleep, the backlight stays on, making the screen white, which I fear is draining power. I'm stuck somewhere around 40% brightness. Changing the power options doesn't work. I did a system restore and it didn't fix it. I reinstalled the power management software and it still didn't fix the issue. Alive Idea Desktop is running and working, and I reinstalled the NVIDIA drivers. none of the resolutions that have worked for other people have worked for me. Anyone? -Joe

I originally meant to discuss this weird issue of the screen of my Lumia 1520 flickering when it is set to absolute low brightness. I.e. In the "Display" settings, when you slide the "Low" bar to minimum. The screen visibly flickers. However, this doesn't appear to be a hardware issue at all, because upon reading the forums, almost every Lumia I think has this problem. Even a guy with a surface had it. So it can't be a general or device specific defect. It could be:
A. A software issue, in the brightness settings. Or a buggy driver.
B. A characteristic defect of LCDs. Cuz I dont think it happens in LED displays. If this is the case, I presume its the backlight, rather than the pixels, which are the problem.
What do you guys think?

What do you guys think? The flickering is the mechanism employed to regulate the brightness of the screen. This can also be observed in high-power CREE LED flashlights, where the brightness of the flashlight is regulated by making the diode flicker at varying rates - where the shorter the "on time" and the wider the gap ("off time") between "on times", the dimmer the light will become. While the L1520 has an LCD screen, the same mechanism may have been employed and is, as such, not really an issue. It's just that at dimmer settings the interval between "off times" become long while the duration of the "on time" of the screen become shorter, making the flicker noticeable.

Having an issue with my main rig with screen brightness. I have a pair of 28" monitors, one connected with DVI and one connected with HDMI. Both run into my primary videocard, which is a EVGA GTX560ti. I have 2 of those as well, but they are normally NOT running in SLI.

The issue is that my primary monitor is much brighter than my secondary monitor. The secondary is so dim that often it is difficult to read things on it. Now obviously I could easily resolve this by increasing the brightness on the secondary monitor, but here's the rub. I dual boot this rig with XP home 32 bit, and in that OS both monitors are exactly the same brightness. Any ideas on this?

ASUS P8P67 Deluxe MB

Any other information you need just ask...

Thanks in advance!!

I called Lenovo tech support to find out if they had a solution for the inability to dim the screen in Windows 7.  The suport person told me to load the latest drivers.  I did, then called back with my case number.  I told them that the suggestion didn't work (I knew it wouldn't). The guy then asked me if I had received the Win 7 update from Lenovo, and I told him "No, I bought Windows 7 and installed that version".Eventually, when he realized he couldn't help me, he told me that they couldn't give me any more help because I had loaded "unsupported software".  Apparently, they consider Windows 7 (if not received from Lenovo) "Unsupported Software"!

My Y470 has a very dim screen/display that is on its brightest setting, but still looks half as bright as my HP that I am still using until I resolve this issue. It arrived this way out of the box. Updating drivers and changing settings did not help. Whites still look very dingy! The Intel display driver was updated, which caused the brightness level indicator to stick like many others have had problems with. I rolled that driver back, so the brightness adjustment level moves again, but the screen brightness setting is maxed out according to the level indicator. All power options have been changed to 100% brightness under all settings/plans, with "Dim the display" set to "Never". Can anyone help or suggest something else to get the screen brighter?

When my T400 comes out of standby the screen brightness goes to 100% even though the Power Scheme prior to standby was lower than 100%.  This causes me to have to manually adjust the screen brightness.  Does anyone know how to prevent this from happening? Hi everyone,

I have a Satellite P750-13D laptop. My problem is; when I press FN + F7, the screen brightness decreases.
On the other hand, when I press FN + F6, the screen brightness increases. Thus, it works oppositely.

What should I do to fix the problem?

Thanks.

Answer:Screen Brightness issue on Satellite P750-13D

Very strange issue.
Do you use original preinstalled OS that you got with your notebook?
Have you noticed this behaviour from the first day?

Generally speaking I don?t see it as big problem. I presume you use different power plans and for each power plan you can set certain brightness level. Using FN+F2 you can change power profiles and brightness level too.

Hello,

Another issue with my new Dell XPS 13 (9333 Model) - for some reason, while charging or not, the screen brightness changes without me telling it to do so (it just did it right now while writing this sentance!!).

Any ideas on why this is happening? It's kind of like an auto brightness thing on a smartphone but much more random! It's really starting to really wreck my head.

Any help appreciated no matter how silly it sounds!

Cheers,
Richard

I changed my laptop power plan's options to make the led brightness 100% when plugged-in ..........When I restart ...... It appeared that it is now 100% but it is actually not 100% ......... When I try to increase the brightness by keyboard the meter appears and tells that it is 100% ..... But actually I can increase more to reach until 100% without any changes with meter ...........So every time I restart I have to increase the brightness from keyboard because windows 8 adjust it as 100% but actually it is not !!!!!!!! Hi, the brightness on my z580 (running win 7) seems to be stuck on full, the on screen display when the bightness up/down fn keys are pressed show the brightness to be at 100% no matter what keys are pressed. If I try to change the brightness from within control panel, moving the slider has no effect on the brightness, pressing the fn keys move the slider as you'd expect but the brightness does not change. I've tried re installing the energy management drivers, the num/caps lock drivers, video drivers and the chipset drivers, none of these have effected the problem. Any thoughts?Additionally the fn key that dissables the touchpad doesn't work, it brings up the icon but the touchpad remains functional; the one key theater touch key lights up but doesn't load anything; but the volume up/down keys do work, and so do all the other fn buttons.

Hello

I updated my Z360 to Windows 10 as soon as I got it.  I've noticed that the ONLY way I can get full screen brightness is when I select the "high performance" power plan.  If I select any other plan, the 100% brightness selection is dim.  Even if I go to manually adjust the screen brightness with the FN F8 key or right clicking on the desktop under the display settings or using the systray brightness, selecting 100% brightness is still less than the 100% brightness I get in high performance mode.

With every other laptop I have ever owned, I could select any power plan I wanted, and associated with that power plan would be a default to some level of brightness- usually something dimmer to save the battery.  However, I would always be able to go into the computer's settings and manually adjust the brightness as needed, up to the compuer's max capability of 100%.

Is anyone aware of a way to select a lower power plan mode AND still have max brightness available as desired?

Answer:Lenovo LaVie Z 360 screen brightness & power plan chanages

Dear ualdriver,

Welcome in lenovo community,

Lenovo did not release the compatible windows 10 drivers for the Z360 yet, that can explain why you have some issues with the laptop (compatibility issues),
so you may go back to the previous windows to have all the functions of the machine working.
and use the below link to follow the updated drivers.

Hello,

Having a weird issue with screen brightness... please help!

It started about 3 weeks ago. I booted into windows and the screen was very dark. I opened the action center and it said brightness was set at 75% - as usual. Clicking on it changed the number, (i.e. it cycles through the brightness settings of 0%/25%/50%/75%100%) however the actual screen brightness did not change.

I've checked everything I could think of, especially in the power management options. Adaptive brightness is off.

So I uninstalled the display adapter driver and restarted - windows automatically reinstalled the driver and everything was fine. A few days later, (including several full shutdowns) it happened again.

In the last 3 weeks it's happened about 6 times. Each time, I reinstall the display driver and it works fine a few more days.

Interestingly, of the 6 times it happened, 1 was a bit different. Instead of the screen being very dark, it was very bright, as if i'd set the brightness to 100%. Otherwise it was the same - i.e. I couldn't change the screen brightness (although again, I could cycle through 0%/25%/50%/75%100% in the action centre).

I was hoping that a windows update would fix this issue, but I received an update a few days ago and the problems persists.

Any help/ideas would be very much appreciated.

Hi jareff. Welcome to the Tenforums @jareff

Next time you install the driver and it works go into to device manager and get the driver version number and manufacture. Then when it fails do the same.

Has the driver been updated or is it still the same?
