Latest Windows update 8.1 causing Power Managenement issue

Question: Latest Windows update 8.1 causing Power Managenement issue

A recent windows update at the begining of march (07/03/2014) has resulted in the battery failing to charge, the charging/connected to mains icon in the system tray area to flicker then disappear. The battery would discharge until the power cord was removed then reattached. It would then momentarily charge then stop. Thankfully I created a system restore which removed the following possible culprits: KB2929961KB2930275KB2894853KB2913760KB2919394KB2919442KB2928680 Windows Action Centre advises the Lenovo Energy management software is no longer compatible once you install the updates. I reinstalled the updates at a later stage having followed the reccomended procedures: Unistall Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery - Doesn't work - it reinstalls itself after each reboot. Disabling it didn't work either. Download the latest Energy Management Software - I am Using the latest version. 8.0.2.20 Uninstalling the updates restored the battery charging function. Can you investigate please?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am testing October 2016 Win7X64 Updates in our network. We install Critical and Important updates. In testing, the updates install fine, then the machines restart and gets stuck at the Configuring Updates - Do Not Power Off your machine screen.
I can see that the machines disk activity stop after a few minutes. Keyboard responds so pc has not frozen but nothing happens. I have to power off the pc manually and next boot is fine. I can install the updates one at a time withour problems. My question
is how can I identify which update is causing the problem ? Which logs should I check and where should I look ?
Thanks for any suggestions.

I run a very tight ship thanks to you folks and I keep a regular check on my services page to make sure nothing is starting that shouldn't. Consequently, although I don't know what half of them do, I am aware of most of the services I have starting automatically and manually. Today, when I checked, I discovered stuff has been starting manually that hadn't been in the recent past; at least I think this is the case. So my question is: has anything happened with this last critical update (13/12/13) that might cause extra services to start manually without my participation.

Answer:latest Windows critical update issue

A lot of things will cause services to start when in 'manual start' mode - and may have nothing whatever to do with updates.
There is a misapprehension that this setting means that the service will only start when the user requests it - this is not true. It simply means that the service doesn't start until something else triggers it.

Please give examples where the behaviour you believe has changed.

As of these last few days, I've been noticing that some applications appear to be stuck in 'always on top' mode for some weird reason. For example, I know applications like Windows Task Manager has an "Always on top" feature, but this seems to be happening with almost every other application at random.

Even Google Chrome is remaining on top for some reason, and I cannot even get to Windows Explorer unless I shift + win + arrow key (to move it to another monitor) or unless I minimize Google Chrome.

Has anyone been experiencing this lately or have any suggestions as to how to fix this?

Answer:Latest update causing applications to remain 'always on top'

None here, but we don`t run Enterprise.

If this is an employers PC, you should address all questions to your IT department.

Here's the story -- welcome input:

Brand new Sager NP8170 notebook. No problems out of the box. After circa one month, a spontaneous power off (SPO) occurs a few minutes after power up. No warning, just black screen, no power. Restarted in normal mode. A few seconds after Windows loads another SPO. Assuming virus (though AVG was installed within first few days), restart in safe mode and System Restore. Problem appears fixed. Update definitions/patches etc.

Next week, same thing happens. Takes a few days to figure out the pattern is a SPO only once, circa 2 mins after power up whether I leave it sit or open programs/internet/etc. Then after an immediate re-power up, works fine. Only thing that seems to complete fix the issue is a System Restore to an earlier date.

Timing caused me to rule out hardware, and I thought it was a virus issue for a while until I tested out not running Windows Update. Not running Windows update seemed to have stopped the SPO. So the SPO must be conflict based? List of updates are below. Any input is welcome.

I recently updated the BIOS on my z30c pt263e as per advice from the toshiba update application installed on my PC.

Since that update, my LAN (wireless) and bluetooth have been behaving abnormally, including:
Connecting to various wireless networks, but not being able to access the internet. In order to do so, I have to do a wireless troubleshoot in windows, which resets the wifi adapter, then it works againIf I switch between networks (say a wireless, to a hotspot wireless on my phone) it does the same thing. Will connect to the network, but not access the internet, necessitating the same resetBluetooth has started to work abnormally at the same time, including saying my bluetooth keyboard is paired, but it won't recognise any input from my keyboard.

I've since downloaded and reinstalled both the LAN and Bluetooth drivers from the Toshiba website. This has NOT fixed the problem.

If toshiba is not aware or not going to do anything about this, can someone please post a link to the previous BIOS version (which isn't available when I search on the EU support site) so I can at least verify if it was the BIOS update causing the problem

Answer:Portege Z30-C Latest BIOS update causing LAN and BT problem

Could anyone post the immediate prior BIOS for z30c PT263E. The one recently released (24 January) seems to have resulted in me having new Wireless networking, and bluetooth problems.

Hi, I've got a T61, 7662-CTO, running Windows XP sp3. I recently ran the Thinkvantage system update, which attempted to update some of the thinkvantage drivers, including the power scheme manager. After the download, Window's Data Execution Prevention started to interfere with the install.  I downloaded the updated driver manually, turned off DEP, and installed manually. Since then, all my ThinkVantage functionality has started to act up.- Power Schemes don't work- None of the Fn + F# keys seem to work, except Fn + F4- the blue thinkvantage button stopped workingIf I start the ThinkVantage programs from the start menu, then some of the programs work okay (but not power schemes) Am I the only one facing these issues?  Any advice would be helpful. -Q

Answer:Latest thinkvantage system update causing many problems...

After calling Warrany Support (woo hooooo), I found that the hotkeys driver needed to be reloaded.  That fixed the Fn+F# key issues, but my power manager is as messed up as it was (even after reinstalling the driver). As a matter of fact, the Power Manager issue persists only on my admin account.  My sibbling's account doesn't seem to have any problems with it.  The problem was that the power profiles were not being activated when selected, and some of the profiles were removed (like Power Source Optimized, Maximum Battery Life, etc...).

Latest MS Update Causing Black Screen of Death

There are reports that the latest round of security patches from Microsoft are causing a black screen of death for some people. Thankfully the problem only seems to affect Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 users running certain security programs. A third party fix is available to anyone experiencing this issue.

Microsoft apparently made changes to the Access Control List (ACL), a list of permissions for a logged-on user. The ACL interacts with registry keys, creating visible desktop features such as a sidebar. However, the latest patches appear to make some changes to those registry keys. The effect is that some installed applications aren't aware of the changes and don't run properly, causing a black screen.

Answer:Latest MS Update Causing Black Screen of Death

Microsoft Updates NOT Causing Black Screen of Death

Microsoft has released a statement regarding the "black screen of death" reports posted earlier saying that those claims are inaccurate and that none of the problems are caused by its security updates.

"Microsoft has investigated reports that its November security updates made changes to permissions in the registry that that are resulting in system issues for some customers," Microsoft security response communications lead Christopher Budd said in a statement. "The company has found those reports to be inaccurate and our comprehensive investigation has shown that none of the recently released updates are related to the behavior described in the reports."

After updating my pc i started having a well known issue with realtek hd audio and my sound;
i had a popup baloon appearing saying 'you just unplugged a device from the audio jack' and then no sound.
and then somtimes reapering saying the oposite and got sound again.

i found some temporary fixes like going to device manager and disabling then reenabling Realtek, or running the inbuilt windows troubleshooter for audio and sound, but after a reboot same issue came back.
i tried to uninstall the drivers then reeinstal them but it didnt help.

so i restored the pc to before the update wich was like 4 days ago, and now everything seems to be fine.

in this windows update there was an update of Flash player for IE ,and i somehow suspect that this is the culprit.

might also be the update i manualy made for Firefox since i saw there was a new flash player version.

the reason i suspect it is the flash player faults is that when i had no sound, when trying to watch a video on youtube i got "an error occured", which wouldn't happen while i had sound, but i didnt really looked into this issue enough to verify it.

anyhow the problem now is that i would like to get those windows"important security updates"without them messing my pc.
and what to do with future updates?, i thought of hidding these ones so i know wich are the new ones.

Thanks.

Answer:windows update or Flash Player causing issue with RealTek

Do you have all the Windows 8.1 and 8.1.1 updates? There were some isolated sound issues after the 8.1 update and the current updates assume 8.1 has been installed.

If you go to the Desktop and then start Internet Explorer, Click on Tools then Windows Update. You can then select which updates you want to install (uncheck the Flash Player update for example). You can select all the ones you want or only select one at a time, install that (or them) and then see if sound is still working.

Hi folks,
When windows 10 was first released I downloaded it and burned to DVD using the media creation tool from Microsoft.
As windows 10 has now had a major update, and I want to create a DVD with that update on it, without having to reinstall it later, as I have other partitions on my computer to update to 10 as well.
So my query is, does anyone know if I was to download windows 10 32 bit from Microsoft again (using the media creation tool from Microsoft) will it include the latest major update to 10?
Thanks for any help

Answer:Is windows 10 latest big update included in latest media creation tool

Microsoft has made available a download able iso for win 10 1511. If you don't see download link on win pc then try on some other device.. like an android phone or tablet. That's how I got it downloaded and had clean installed. Hope this helps.

Update forced on 8/18 caused the same issues on two of my computers running W10 .

Cumulative Update for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems (KB3081444)

Updates were downloaded and all of a sudden I get about a dozen or so blank objects on my desktop that look like note files. However there are no names underneath them, you can't open them, delete them, get properties, anything. Also, can't get start menu to open up, and any task bar items I roll my cursor across disappear as I do that till I have nothing left.

So, go to shut down and it attempts to do that, but after a few minutes it just pops back up to the same screen before I tried to shut down.

I had to physically power down both computers, then power back on to get all functionality in my system. All seems to be working fine now, just curious if anyone knows what may have caused this.

Hating the forced W10 updates... about to apply the registry hack not to autocheck for updates till MS comes around to their senses and gives us users the ability to manage updates on our own.

I built this PC about a month ago with no issues during the build.

Within the past two weeks I'm seeing some odd behavior and I can't seem to nail it down.

First, there was an issue in which the computer would not boot at all. It would start to boot up and right as a fan would begin to turn on, the boot would stop. I checked all of the power connections and tried again - it worked. Possibly just a connection issue, but this incident is where other issues began popping up.

Second, the Blu-Ray player will not play movies. It opens/closes but does not recognize a disc being in the drive. I've used it a few times after initial installation, so I know this is an issue that's occurred within the last two weeks.

Third, the computer will not shut down. It goes through a normal shutdown and the monitor even turns off, but the computer is still on. Fans are running and status indicators are active. The computer does fully shut down when going through a restart though so I believe this is possibly a setting somewhere.

I have Windows 7 Home Premium, and so have also had to put up with all the latest updates. The problem is that after installing them, something happens to my screen resolution (all icons and text are enormous). I have already done two system restores to fix this, but after each one the updates are once again installed and so the situation reoccurs.
I should also add (since the two things are surely connected) that for a while now I've been getting messages regarding my video card drivers. I have checked with AMD, and my drivers are up to date. Yet yesterday and the day before I also got a Blue Screen of Death.
I've installed WhoCrashed, but this won't work since dumps are not enabled(or something similar!!).
I see that my laptop is ready to install the updates again...

"I have already done two system restores to fix this, but after each one the updates are once again installed and so the situation reoccurs."
Change the way your updates are installed - Windows Updates - under Important Updates change to Download Updates but let me choose whether to install them That way you have more control over them. (ie: I want what I want on my computer NOT what Microsoft thinks I should have)
If as you say System Restore fixes the problem then it is obvious that one or more of your updates is overwriting. Depending on how many updates there are, install one or two at a time - then restart each time and you should find the culprit.

hi,

has anyone else had this problem? about 2 days ago while shutting down my computer Windows installed 8 updates, and configured them while i turned it back on, but during the following time i shut down, it installed 8 updates again, and configured them the next time i turned it on.

basically i never stops, there are always 8 updates to install and configure, and its quite annoying that windows auto-restarts my computer if i leave it untouched for a couple of hours...

I switch form power saver to high performance. When I work I want high performance, when I just tinker or type some text files I don't need that, so I switch to power saver. I was on power saver, I check power plans and notice `high performance` missing. I switch to `balanced` and then `power saver` disappears also.

I believe this has to do with latest big update. Any idea on how to get my power plans back? Or what is the alternative that Windows provides now for doing that?

Answer:Power plans dissappeared after latest big update

I see this in Control Panel, build 16299.125... are you missing something there?
However, clicking Additional power settings in Settings did briefly show me High Performance which disappeared- is that what you mean?

Ok, so I've updated to the latest version and now have an annoying issue with the audio output. After this stupid update, my audio output defaults to the monitor (via hdmi as shown in the sound manager, though I use DP) instead of speakers and headset after reboot! Did anybody have the same problem? I have to set it to speakers and headset manually every time because of that which is annoying.

Does anybody have the same issue? Any way to fix?

I need some major help with the latest Windows Update (the set of patches that came out this Tuesday to help with the security issues), I think it is causing issues for my laptop PC. I'm not computer illiterate but I'mdefinitely nothing more than a beginner and this is starting to make me panic a little ^_^;

My laptop has been having major Startup and boot issues since the update. My laptop freezes and goes to a white-grey screen. The computer does start up - ie: the screen comes on (white screen, unless I am lucky enough to get a boot screen for a moment) the fans run, but it takes several attempts at turning it on and off again, and hitting either F12 or F8 (still not sure which one is the one that works) to get to a screen that allows me to repair the Startup and go back to a retore point. The last time this happened it also beeped at me however I would not be able to tell you what the code sounded like (I...panicked somewhat).

However, the restore point was made just after Windows downloaded the updates onto my comouter (I had automatic updates on), and I cannot shut down without my computer wanting to install the updates. So I'm stuck in an endless cycle of downloading these updates, then being forced to restore.

Can anyone help with either finding a way to stop my laptop installing these updates, or does anyone know a way to troubleshoot the updates themselves?

I downloaded the new version of flash cards for my computer (the update was dated for the 8 August 2007), when I installed the update and rebooted the laptop, flash cards worked but my Fn button that started them earlier doesn't open them any more ... Please help me!

NOTE: I downloaded all available updates on the 9th August 2007, My OS is Vista HP also fully updated!!

Answer:Strange issue after latest flash cards update on Satellite E200-14E

Hi,

one little suggestion: remove the FN-key software and install a downloaded version. Make sure that everything from that FN-key software was properly removed from the system, so you can be sure that nothing will disturb the newly installed version.

Maybe it helps, please give a feedback if it works...

Hello
I have windows xp sp 2 running. I did have xp sp 3 installed and running, but took my system back through a system restore point because I thought maybe the new SP 3 download was causing this issue.

Every single time I get this update (i think it is KB893090..) and try to install it, it will freeze my system and I have to reboot. I have tried manually installing it from the website and through Windows Automatic Update and no matter which way I choose it will not install properly.

It will initialize and then just stay on the screen saying OVERALL PROGRESS of the download, with no progress ever showing, no green bar ever appearing..the screen will never change or give me any errror messages, my computer just freezes and will stay like that until I reboot it through the power button. I can't even use the shutdown method.

I am running Comodo Pro Firewall, AVG 8.0 free...I also have Spybot S and D and SpywareGuard on my system
Does anyone know why this would be happening?

Any info would be greatly appreciated
thanks

Microsoft

We are having an issue printing from our EHR medical program since a forced update that our support department at EMR says is coming from a overly aggressive Windows Security Update.
See attached.  We were instructed to uninstall the update but it continues to reinstall when restarting each computer. We have about 13 computers and 8 Microsoft surface tablets.   All computers are running various versions of Windows
8.1 to 10.  You cannot stop the updates from occurring.  Is there a fix because this is seriously affecting our work daily.

From my EHR  tech:

Uninstalling the update fixed the issue.  I would de-select this update on all machines as you apply the latest round.

I am letting development know... I am not sure if they will fix or if Microsoft may release an update to the update first.

Hi, i wanted to know if there is any other way to update windows 7 to latest-present updates via offline / download standalone update installer ?

currently i'm using "monthly roll-up updates " which i understand that i've to install it one after another?
but some, day i've to taken care of many computer (clean install) it's taken too much time by doing so.
is there any install package to update windows 7 to the latest updates to make it 'present' as possible without using windows update (online check for update).

I downloaded an optional update for my laptop wireless connection this morning (there seems to be one every month for the Realtek Wirless LAN). My wireless connection now no longer works despite everything. I assume the best thing to do is use the pre installation system restore point?

Answer:Latest Realtek Wireless Update via Windows update

Yes, Realtek are not great @ writing drivers. Good hardware requires good code. They have the same issues with the high def. sound drivers.

Hello everyone I have a problem updating my windows to version 1703 (Currently on 1607). What happened was on my PC there was an update available and decided to update after it restarted I got the screen "working on updates" So I decided to leave it there for a while and did something else when I came back all I saw was a black screen the PC wasn't like restarting or anything. I waited 30 minutes and nothing has changed just black screen so I decided to force turn off my PC and turn it on again my PC was checking for repairs then went back to updating when it got to 87% the update just froze like nothing was moving at all not even the loading thing it's just literally froze I waited an hour and nothing so unfortunately I forced turned off my PC and it restored back to the previous version I look through the update history it says I have updated the windows 10 creators update privacy settings? which was the one I failed and I looked at the version I was and it's still 1607 (screenshots below) and when I try to update it says it's up to date. I am kinda panicking a little and was wondering why is this happening to my gaming computer.

Oh by the way I went to troubleshooting and this is what I got a lot of errors

Update:I ran troubleshooter again and got the same thing "Repair Windows Update Database Corruption" Dang this makes me more panicking. Honestly, I hope this really gets fixed

Answer:Windows Update Failed To Install Latest Update

Hi, just a note on that most recent update:
Upgrading to Creators Update requires installing KB4013214

It seems like the download failed.

Given your repairs, an excellent start, I'd suggest you do this by way of basic checks:
From an admin command prompt
[Windows key + X, click command prompt (admin)]
chkdsk C: /F
Your PC will need to restart.
Post back the result, which you can get after a restart as follows:
How do I see the results of a CHKDSK that ran on boot? - Ask Leo!
Make sure the result is clear or fixed- else do not proceed.

Then from an admin prompt run
sfc /scannow

and post the result (not the whole log).

I would recommend you MANUALLY download the Creator's Upgrade.

Why?
- it lets you create a useful bootable medium with some repair features
- you can use it to do a future clean install or in-place upgrade
- if the upgrade fails, you can repeat it without downloading again.
Download Windows 10 ISO File - Windows 10 Installation Upgrade Tutorials

Now, once you are happy with your disk and integrity of your Windows, please take this precautionary step:
Download and use Macrium Reflect (free) + its boot disk - and you will need a large external disk or similar
and create a disk image (in particular, option Windows Backup).

Then do the upgrade using the iso you have downloaded.
When you upgrade, disconnect any unnecessary peripherals, esp. wireless mouse.

If you end up with an unbootable PC you can then restore it exactly as it was.

Greetings!

I have Acer Aspire 5750G. My current BIOS version is 1.07. The latest version is 1.12.

There are a few versions in between. Should I do incremental updates and reach 1.12 or should I just go direct to 1.12?

Many Thanks!

Answer:BIOS - Incremental updates to latest vrsn or direct update to latest?

Bios updates are cumulative, so you only need the latest.

You also don't need to update the bios unless there is a fix in it/them that fixes an issue you may be having. For the most part updating the bios is as easy as updating a driver, only if a bios update goes wrong you can't roll back to the old and you basically end up with a nice paperweight.

Anyone doing a fresh install of Windows 7 should manually install SP1 (if needed).

The Windows Update Agent was renamed to Windows Update Client.

Manually requesting a search for Windows Updates on a Windows 7 computer with SP1 install should prompt the user to install a pre-SP1 Windows Update (WU) Agent (7.6.7600.320). Seems odd.

That old WU Agent worked just fine until Microsoft changed the update servers. The info coming back from the servers seems to now cause high RAM/CPU usage for some computers... but that old WU Agent should eventually get the job done. The computer might be useless for any other task for 24+ hours.

You can skip installing that old WU Agent and manually install the latest WU Client instead. Or, you can manually install the latest WU Client over top of that old WU Agent.

However, below is what I encountered when I went to install the latest Windows Update Client on a W7 pro 64bit SP1 computer.

I started by using these search terms in Google:
"Windows Update Client" "March 2016" "Windows 7"
As this post ages, replace "March 2016" with the current month/year.
If that does not find the desired KB, try the previous month.

That lead me to this link for March 2016: KB3138612.

The W7 pro 64bit SP1 computer has IE8 installed by default.

Visiting KB3138612 via IE8 got me this:

Clicking on the link to update the browser got me this:

Hello,

Not sure why no one has tried to help me???

I have a HTPC that I build myself, it was running Windows 8 and Upgraded to Window 10. Everything was working good and fine until the last Automatic Windows 10 updates that were installed. The Windows 10 does not full start now, gets the my home screen and gets hung up with the small round Blue cursor doing nothing. When starting up the Startup sound starts and stops in the middle. Then nothing else loads like virus software and the like. Basically Dead with home screen. You can move circle cursor around and thats it.

Do not know what this Update did but something major has happen.

I have a Full System Restore available that has the Good working Windows 10, but the last updates were all ready downloaded and were waiting for a computer restart. So Once I install the image and when it restarts you can see it install the updates then it is back right where I was.

Can start in safe mode no problem. So can make changes there if need.

Question is - can I stop the computer from updating on the image restart somehow - or delete or stop the updates in safe mode.

Any help will be appreciated that can fix this.

Thank you

Answer:Windows 10 Latest Updates Issue

This sounds as if your system backup was done in the middle of an update so you will always restore back to that point.

The fact that you can get into safe mode suggests that one of the drivers or processes that start during a normal boot are triggering the problem. Instead of safe mode I would try a clean boot and see if this will allow the system to start up. Then you can repeat the process and gradually introduce the services back a few at a time until you pinpoint what is causing the problem. Once you know, you can then deal with it by removing the offending program.

See this MS article for the clean boot process (W10 works the same as W8): https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/929135

One other option might be to do a system restore (if you had turned this form of system protection on) and take your system back to a point before you tried the update. See this tutorial for an explanation.

Answer:Windows 7 SP1 update failed, causing Windows Update errors

Well; one thing i can tell ya is that when it says cannot update while files in are in use basically means you need to restart your system. Try restarting and see what happens. It may tell you either when the system is in the process of restarting; that its configuring updates. Do not do a hard power down as that can cause even more issues while its updating.

I had 11/12 GB free, then yesterday Windows downloaded a little more than 1GB of updates, and now I have 8 GB free.
Any chance to recover some space? CCLeaner says I can just delete files for 800mb.

Answer:3 GB lost after latest Windows update.

Reboot TWICE then run the CCleaner Temp files and Recycle bin clean-ups - do not clear log files!

THEN use the DiskClean Utility and clear everything except log files.
Then run the utility again and this time do the Advanced cleanup to remove backup files.

You then need to go back to Windows Update and reinstall any updates which the cleanup utility may have removed (last time I looked there were around 3 affected by this)

I saw this morning on ZD Net that Microsoft had released new patches and even tho' I have configured auto update I logged on to Windows update tohave a look. I was informed that there were three critical updates for my machine and opted to download/install them. I have done this three times and each time the operation fails just after the download has finished. I installed SP 2 a few weeks ago and all has been fine. There are no problems with my machine. Hello all,

I have had no internet on my laptop for about well...Maybe a month now (because of network problems which I have posted in the networking support section...no help yet though). And I haven't been able to update my computer with the latest update. I have heard that the update before this last one has caused people to have networking problems such as mine (Saying the wireless is working fine but won't load anything internet related).

So, my question is...Is there a way I can download the update package and use my memory stick to transfer it to my laptop to update my computer to see if it will fix the network problem that I am experiencing?

Thank you kindly!

Answer:Latest Update for Windows XP/Miscrosoft

I'm not sure if you can add all the updates to a memory stick, but it is possible to create a slipstreamed CD containing all the updates using your original installation disc. The instructions on how to do it can be found here.

Windows Updates downloaded on 14/4 caused significant problems. Instead of restarting in response to the prompt, the machine powered itself off. When booting up again it went into command mode telling me that there was a problem and offering to repair it, but powered off again. I managed to get it booted up ok by doing a System Restore under the Reinstall Windows option, but since Automatic Update is selected the same Updates caused the same problem when I powered off last night.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Answer:Problems with latest Windows Update

Get the computer working again. Then set update to notify, rather than to install automatically. Then when you are advised of the new updated, do not install it, hide it.
If you have questions with any of this just post.

These problems are common.

I'm in a bit of a pickle in that the latest Update killed my rig. I get a stop report BSOD and Windows won't even boot.
Back in the day, I would have just grabbed the Windows 7 DVD, re-installed and off I go. But I don't have a Windows 10 DVD and the licence key I have is for a previous version of Windows which got upgraded to 10.

How am I meant to resolve this?

Answer:BSOD Following Latest Windows Update

You can still do a clean install of Windows 10 by downloading the ISO from Microsoft to create your own DVD or USB install media. Since you have already had W10 installed on your PC it has a digital rights entitlement so it will automatically activate, you simple skip entering the product key when asked to do so.

See the following: Clean Install Windows 10

If you want to try and rescue your rig rather than a clean install I can recommend the rescue disk provided by Kyhi

Hello I would like to ask:I updated my BIOS last night to the latest version. I am on Windows 10, HP Envy x360. I updated it sucessfully and I am not facing any issues as of now. I wasn't facing one before I updated. Everything was going smoothly but I saw in the HP Support Assistant that I have numerous things to update so I clicked it all & updated. When the BIOS finished installing the computer restarted and I continued updating the others (which included the BIOS internal) but in the middle of the update, I stopped it. And it said it's not applicable anymore. I clicked to update again & the other 3 (there was 4 of them including the BIOS internal) updated succesfully. I even contacted support at that same night to let them do the manual update to give me a peace of mind. The technician said I updated it correctly. But what I read on everyp site on the internet that not to update the BIOS. So I am worrying & scared right now because my laptop might encounter problems that weren't there before the update. I am regretting my decision, I am not a techy person and I don't understand the computer world very well yet I decided to update without knowing first what it was. I am very scared of what might happen because of my carelessness. My questions are:1. Answer:No ethernet after latest Windows 10 update

Hi, one of many possible ideas.. (hope you've solved this by now).. try the driver you were using before the Nov upgrade. (Maybe you can roll back). The Nov. TH2 upgrade is a MS novelty item, as you know, being akin to a new Windows installation.

A number of similar instances are reported as you've most probably found.

If you need to use a different driver to the one prescribed by MS, you will need to protect it from update (see the tutorial section - link above).

Hello dear windows 7 community.

I have some hardware related problems, I believe. But today I after I acquired new mob, cpu and psu. I started to doubt myself.
Here is a small overview:
OS: Win 7 x64bit freshly installed today for... 3 time(?).
CPU: Q9400
MOB: Asus P5Q Pro Turbo
RAM: 8gb of Kingston DDR2 HyperX PC8500 4GB KITx2
Graphics: XFX 5970 BE

All the latest available drivers and windows updates.
If I have an areo theme activated, launching Bad Company 2 may fail.
If I switch to windows basic and try starting Bad Company 2 it works just fine.
Alas for no reason what so ever when I tried entering uPlay (from ubisoft), I got a bsod regarding atikmpag.sys

So after a lot of google searches and thinking I came up with a theory, what if my problems are related to a windows update?
Since they started not so long ago, it must be one of the recent updates(?), but I have absolutely no clue which one it might be.

Answer:What is latest released windows update?

What do you mean with that Windows updates "started not so long ago"? Windows Update has been working since the day 1 of the early test versions, updates rolling out and being installed constantly since that.

Your problem is most probably non-working video drivers, at least that atikmpag.sys is a video driver file, and as such it seems your BSOD issues have nothing to do with Windows Update.

Hey guys! Basically what I mean is that I've created the ISO file using Media Creation Tool right after upgrading Windows 8.1. Since then W10 was updated to the 10586 build and I was thinking of updating the ISO (just for emergencies). What are my options? Should I use MCT again and just create another ISO file?

Another option would be to download a Windows 10 torrent. Since my key is associated with my MS account I figured it would activate with no problems. What do you recommend??

Thank you!

Answer:How to update Windows 10 ISO to the latest build??

Why not download the ISO direct from Microsoft. Just choose the correct edition

Hey guys, I am having an issue where I am trying to update to the latest ATI drivers which are 10.12 released 12/13/2010. I go into device manager and find my video card (ati 5850) and when I try and update my drivers it says the correct one is already installed. Problem is these drivers are outdated (8.791). I have tried to uninstall these drivers and install the new ones from the website but the new ones will not install. I do not get any installation errors trying to install the new ones, but after I install them I go to device manager and it still lists the old ones as being the current drivers. Another issue I'm having is when I uninstall the drivers from device manager, it uninstall the whole card as well. I hit the "detect new hardware" and it finds my card and immediately downloads the older drivers and I cannot stop this process. I disabled windows from automatically updating drivers and it still downloads the drivers after the card and drivers get uninstalled. This is extremely frustrating, I have no idea what else I can do. Any help would be appreciated.

P.S. I am running win7 64bit.

Answer:Windows won't let me update to latest ATi drivers

Hello there, Rynzo, according to what i read, 8.791 on the device manager is the latest version:

Quote:
THE DRIVER VERSION 8.791.0.0 APPEARS TO BE THE LAST DRIVER THAT SUPPORTS ATI OVERDRIVE WHICH WAS IN 10-11.........

So i guess there's no problem with your Drivers.. if you're not completely satisfied, you could run Driver Sweeper (after uninstalling ATI Drivers) and install them again

I live in Lima Peru and have a Spanish version of Windows XP. However my browsers and other programs have always been English versions. Two days ago my computers (a PC and a laptop) downloaded and installed the latest Windows Update (a very long Update). Since then, my Internet Explorer 7 menu bar, buttons and status bar are in Spanish. I checked the language option in Internet Options-->General-->Languages but it says English. I tried reinstalling IE many times, downloading the English installer from Microsoft, and it still won't change those bars and buttons to English. (The odd thing is that the Internet Options popUp does appear in English, it's the only thing that appears in English).

Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks.

Cesar

Answer:IE language after latest Windows Update

on windows 7 cant install latest update get error message 80073712

Answer:on windows 7 cant install latest update

Try a manual Windows Update. If it still fails, there are options for diagnosing the problem right on the window that tells you that it failed. It of course goes through the simpler ones first, but if they fail, it offers you other options. Be persistent (once I had one machine that refused sp1 for quite a while, eventually, I found an option there to reinstall the entire updater and that fixed it).You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

I have a Star Wars Special Edition Notebook - 15-an050nr, that is about 1 month old.  Yesterday, I tried to downoad and install the latest huge (3gb or so) update to Windows 10 that was just released.  I ended up with a message saying that the update failed because there was not enough room in the recovery partition.    I checked the partition, and it is 25.1gb, with less than 3gb of space available.  When I got the error message, it showed that the Windows 10 update was taking up 2.87gb, leaving only 25mb left.   I have no clue what to do.  Any suggestions?

Answer:What are the Latest KB Numbers to fix Windows Update NOT wor...

Rob3307 Folks have bandied about a couple of different KBs -- claiming these both "fixed" Windows Updates.  But further examination has revealed that NOT to be true. I continue to support a bunch of Win7 PCs, some of which were rolled back from Win10 because the owners disliked Win10 so much. But, I have noticed that recently, Windows Update has been performing really slowly on ALL these machines. The symptoms are that it searches for HOURS -- and does not appear to make any progress!OR .. it finds stuff, but then goes into downloading for HOURS ... and does not appear to make any progress!Anyway,  check for a Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Downloads\ folder.  This is where Windows Updates stores the updates it downloads and its working files.  IF it exists, Windows Update is working -- even though you see no progress.  Over time, the folder will grow until all the Updates have been downloaded.  Then, it will shrink as the Updates get applied.  When done, Windows should remove it. If it does not, you can remove the contents of that folder, but do not remove the folder itself. And yes ... updates are taking hours (or days!) when they used to take only a few minutes. So basically, there is nothing wrong with your PC.  And -- if you RESET it, you are only going to make matters worse as that will start the Update process from scratch, and the last time I did that, it took three full days (!) to find, download, and apply all the updates... I am using a Dell laptop and it says I am up to date, but the last update was on 11/11/15 "Cumulative Update for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems (KB31052130)". How come I never got the December 4 update, I have another laptop that I use that updated, but not on this one.

Answer:How do I get the latest December 4 Windows 10 update?

Cumulative updates contain all prior cumulative updates, and the December 4th didn't install for many of us easily. There is a new update today, the 8th. See if that one will install, and you will be back up to date.

I recently reloaded xp on my computer to fix an error created by another piece of software. Since than I cannot get my system to accept security updates from Microsoft. The down load works, but I get an error that indicates none of the updates can be installed. I am currently missing 70 updates. I have tried to load one at a time in the event I did not reserve enough disk space, but I still get the same results. Do you have any ideas how this can be fixed.

Answer:Cannot load latest windows update

Try this website:

http://www.getautopatcher.com/

It allows you to download all the patches (about 300 MB) and install what you need. I have a security camera pc(vendor configured) that does not allow access to the windows update website and I used this tool to patch the system. Hope it helps solve your issue.

Thanks eddie. Problem is, the windows update site is sending lots of computers belly-up, mine included.

You go there & the site says it's searching for updates. Nothing happens after that. Zilch! Then your computer locks up.

Do you have a direct link to this download? If not, I'll head over to dsl reports & try to find one there. That's where I got the links last time. This update problem has been going on for several days now.

Boy, I sure hope you have a direct link.

regards..........bellgamin

I found this at the dsl site...
Go HERE

The updater at M$ is horrible -- & those guys at dsl forum are on broadband. Without a direct link, eddie, it's just about hopeless.

Any ideas anybody???

The last time I installed the latest Microsoft update ( a few days ago) I have since noticed that some of the pictures on web sites I visit and e-mails I get have been replaced with blank frames and little X's up in the corner. The most recent e-mail I received from an on-line dating service with my current matches had NO pictures of any kind on it, not even the name of the dating service. The only way I knew who it was from was the name in the FROM column in my mailbox. Does anyone have a clue what did this and how to fix it? Thanks for any and all help.

Installing "service pack 2" has altered some of your email security settings.

Do This:
Open Outlook Express 6.0.
Click Tools, Options, Security tab.
Uncheck:
"Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus".
Uncheck:
"Block images and other external content in HTML email"
Click Apply
Click OK.

Just posting to ask if anyone has had any system problems after the latest set of WU installs (10 June) ?

I had a couple o lockups today and ended up using a system restore to recover - I have re-applied the update and it seems OK so far.

The strange thing was that the system repair from the install disk identified my win 7 7100 as vista ultimate before actually running the repair

One thing I did notice was that this update reset my start screen to the default one

Answer:Problems with Latest Windows Update?

I am using 7201 x64 and everything seems to be fine for me. Then again those updates are not showing up for me in WU.
