Lenovo y410p Windows 8.1 Battery Life

Question: Lenovo y410p Windows 8.1 Battery Life

Hi everyone, I've been doing some "googling" in regards to the battery life when updating to Windows 8.1. I find that that battery life after updating to Windows 8.1 has been gimped. However, after restoring back to Windows 8, my battery does just fine. However, after several windows updates in early January, my battery life has declined again and I finally gave up and installed Windows 8.1 again a few days ago. Again, I get the same result. 60% battery with hardrive saver mode and power saving mode on and I can barely last an hour. Before that (In December) when I ran Windows 8, 60% battery can last me 2.5 hours no problem WITHOUT having to turn on hardrive saver (but I did turn on my performance settings to "Balanced"). I'm just wondering if anyone else having this issue? I see no one else posting this.As for drivers, as soon as I updated to windows 8.1, I downloaded all the available drivers that were on the Lenovo website and I did my Windows Updates.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

Hi, I have had my T430 since August of 2012 at the start of college. I am currently running windows 8.1 pro and I recently just noticed my battery life issues and after installing lenovo settings I discovered that my battery's capacity is at 27% of the original capacity. The battery life is really bad, e.g. it says 15 minutes remaining at 25% on POWER SAVER mode.  I have google this and it said to "reset my battery" but unfortunately 8.1 Lenovo power manager doesn't have that feature.  I am just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for what to do?  Will I just have to get a new battery?

Answer:Lenovo T430 Battery Life 1+ hour on life saver

you would have to have a pre-Windows 8 OS to gain that crucial battery reset function. This is one reason why i dislike running Win 8 on ThinkPad.

Having upgraded to Windows 8.1 X1 Carbon, I have noticed in the Lenovo Settings app that the power settings no longer include the extended battery life option (charge to 50% rather than 100%). I've read on this discussion board that longer battery life may be obtained, particularly when using the laptop while plugged into the A/C adapter by storing it at about half its power capacity. So, why is the longer battery life option missing from the Lenovo Settings app? Tim

Hi, I bought my y410p laptop in November 2013 and it was working fine. But about a month ago i did a battery calibration and since then the battery is not functioning properly. The maximum percentage of battery power is dropping from 100% to now 15%, and even I plug in AC and the battery icon in the task bar says plugged in and charging, the percentage of battery power does not go up (and no animation of battery power going up in the battery icon). I tried the battery calibration in Lenovo energy management for the 2nd time but it had been calibrating for more than 24 hours until I had to manually cancel the calibration process. As a last resort I left the laptop on while in bios mode to drain all the battery and plug in ac hoping it would fix the problem. but this time the battery power stays at 0% while the battery icon again states AC plugged in and charging. By the way, I've also uninstalled and reinstalled Lenovo energy management program but that does not solve the issue. So is this a problem of the battery or the motherboard? My laptop is over 1 year old so the warranty is expired. While it's easy and less costly to just replace the old battery, it's not feasible for me to replace the motherboard. If the latter is the case, I guess I would have to live with it. Thanks for any help. Update: I just unplugged the laptop which has been connected to the AC power for more than 1 hour, though the battery level is still 0%. The result is the laptop die with... Despite the manufacturer's claim of 7 hours battery life on my Lenovo Ideapad 320S-14IKB - 81BN (S/N: MP1CHQTJ), I only get around 3-4 hours. This is with light usage, Reddit, a little bit of youtube etc. CPU usage was mostly around 0-5% the entire time. This was with the max CPU state in power settings reduced from 100% to 85%. However, I do have the screen at 100% brightness. As a different test, I tried doing (almost) nothing (apart from keeping the screen bright), and got 6 hours out of the battery. Is there a simple solution to increase this? It's only a 30 Wh battery (2 cell). Maybe in the future, a 60 Wh (4 cell?) one will come out for this model?

Hi guys,I am very happy user of Lenovo T520. I have upgraded to Intel 520 SSD disk and ram to crucial 2x4GB DDR3 and laptop is performing very well ! When I bought my T520, I bought one replacement battery- 9 cell battery(laptop came with 6-cell). I have used it about 10-30 times only and kept it always only 80% charged in cool place(actually at room temperature 22C approx). After one year of no-usage I wanted to start using this replacement battery again. I am very disappointed and confused. I have inserted my 9-cell battery with only 20 charging cycles and it has very low capacity and runtime. Please help me? What happned with my nearly 3 years old, but never used battery??? My 6 cell battery(about 200 cycles) is like new and performing very well(3 hours runtime and 95% capacity) See attached Many thanks for any useful advise

Hi There! Some Questions:1) Is the CPU of the Z510 on a socket so I could upgrade it?I saw a dissambling video, that looked like you could do that. And if one can do that: If you place a i7 on that board will the cooler be strong enough and is the battery able to keep up with the power needed from that i7?And if I'd go totally crazy and replace the i5 4200, upgrade that thing to 16gb ram and change the hard drive to an ssd: Will the battery just vaporize? SO: Is it possible to upgrade the 4cell battery installed in my z510? Thanks for your responses! Regards from Germany,Ruforion

Hello everyone! My name is Kevin and I've had my Lenovo Y410P for a little less than 2 years. So recently I downloaded Battery Bar as I was realizing that my battery duration was slowly receding.Battery Bar, a program that shows battery level and wear, stated that my 6 cell battery had experienced 54.3% wear. I browsed the internet for specific tips on how to increase my battery duration and came upon battery recalibration. I tried it a couple times manually, but I didn't get any results. So, I then turned to the battery gauge full-charge/discharge function in my Energy Management. After running that through the night, I realized the next morning that the battery was depleted and I couldn't turn on my laptop or even charge my battery unless I followed the steps:- Remove the battery from the laptop.- Plug in the AC adapter and use the laptop without a battery.- The battery can be reattached. The battery is able to start charging. - If I remove the AC adapter for a second and reattach it, it will not be recognized and it will not charge the battery. As of now, Battery Bar shows that I have 0% wear of 52,830 mWh which is significantly less than the full capacity of a 6 cell battery; however, it's still better than what I had before. Anyways, does anyone else have this problem? And if you have, how did you resolve this issue? Thank you!

Hello to all! The situation:I bought the laptop last summer when I was in USA. Then the problem with the battery has appeared (battery status was bad, and battery changing was required) and one day it wasn't able to charge it at all. So i placed my laptop to the authorized service center here in Russia. They replaced the battery but said that it has problem with charging controller on motherboard and Lenovo doesn't send such motherboard to Russia. Now I can start my laptop without battery(after pressing power button 20 secs) and it able to charge the battery only when it is totally empty (if I unplug the power adapter and plug it again the charging is not going to continue). Lenovo representative in Russia said that they can do nothing. Y410P has international warranty. What should I do? Thanks in advance!

Hello Lenovo Forums,      It's really frustrating for me to be here and posting a problem exactly a week after I bought my laptop. So I got this thing last week and about 3 days ago it started hesitating to charge. I'm sure it was not a hardware issue because at startup it charges but after a while it stops.      I got into a conclusion that it was probably some kind of service that stops it from charging. So I uninstalled the Energy Management App but it didn't work so I just reinstalled it back. I also tried to uninstall the "Microsoft acpi-compliant control method battery" like what most people recommend but it just reinstalls and doesn't work at all. I tried disabling it but it removes the battery icon from the taskbar. I also tried removing and reinstalling the battery a couple of times which resulted into nothing.      But just today when I booted up the laptop the Lenovo Management Software shown a message saying that my battery is not genuine and they will hesitate to charge it.      I was like "W**? I just got this thing last week and touched nothing and now you're telling me my battery is not genuine?" So looked at the battery and it was LEGIT with all the legit lenovo branding and everything.      Can anybody help me fix this? Thank you

Hi i recently bought a lenovo z51, but i am disapointed in the battery life, i have taken the laptop apart and can see that there is loads of space which is not being used. I google for a new battery and found this option, so my question is this, would it fit my laptop and if so would it bring about much more battery life?  http://www.chargers-pc.co.uk/lenovo-laptop-batteries-c-52_11/original-laptop-battery-lenovo-z5170-48... this is the one that is currently in the laptop:http://www.chargers-pc.co.uk/lenovo-laptop-batteries-c-52_11/laptop-battery-lenovo-z41-z51-z4170-z41... I only get around 2 hours usage, which is unacceptable, and you can see why as the battery is about the same size as most tablets which is rediculous ThanksGeorge

Answer:Battery life Lenovo z500

For battery related issues it is handled by the program Energy Management. If you want your battery to have a long life set it to xxxxx mode while being plugged to ac. This will charge the battery to 60% only. If you want the battery to be charge to maximum for mobile situation later on you can set it to xxxx mode while it is still plugged into ac. So in both situation you have the unit plugged to ac. Note: Refer to the modes indicated in the program to replace the xxxx's in the statements.

I have a Yoga 500, battery drains from 100% to 5% in 80mins.   This is with it just sitting there doing nothing.  Is this normal?   I sent it off for repair to Medion- it's come back with no comments other than it's been tested and everything is OK.   So - what's the average batter life - surely it should be up around 5 hours, not 1.5 hours?

Hi I recently bought Lenovo Ideapad 110 laptop and I got very disappointed by the battery life, it doesn't even last an hour (i use it no more than 2 weeks)Now, this doesn't seem right to me, but I don't know what the problem could be. I am using my laptop for long hours since I need it for my work and I'm constantly charging and discharging it because it has a non-removable battery and I don't want to keep it plugged in all the time.Any input about where to go from here would be most welcome. Thank you in advance

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad 110 battery life

Hi igeto,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

As seen from common reviews, battery for the model is not one of the strong points, although should be able to do up to 3 Hours Video Playback. On low setting gameplay, the benchmark was able to perform 1-hour gameplay.

Check if you got the updated BIOS from the support site with updated power management and Lenovo utility.
Perform manual battery gauge calibration by using the machine until 10-20% charge then have it fully charged and restart. Change brightness to maybe 80% (this would help the battery usage) and see how long you would be able to use it for your normal use.

If you have the same problem, call in technical support for their recommendation.

Hi Guys, I'm very fine with my P50 (4k-Screen, Modell: 20EQS00600). Everything is great except battery life. Before I upgraded to Windows 10 Anniversary, I had a battery life for about 7 hours which was great for a power machine like this. After upgrading to it, my battery life is now about 3 Hours and I didn't change anything. My workload is also the same. There is also no process in the background which is killing the battery and the Intel graphic chip is working fine. I absolutly have no clue what I can do. But honestly, I don't want to reinstall, because this would take ages.

Hi everybody.I'm the proud owner of a Lenovo 3000N100 since over 4 Years; the best laptop I ever owned.Everything is still working fine, but I'm as well a victim of the Bad Batteries Problem early on, unfortunately my battery died on me after the warranty finished(even after the extended period of 1/2 Y.)One year ago( Aug 18. 2008) I decided to buy a new original extended Battery 9cell which set me back almost $200 and now a week ago it started to decease to do it's job( it's just charging to 87% and stays there and if I unplug the power it won't turn on no running on batteries again) My question: Is that the new scheme Lenovo is cursing it's customers with to sell batteries they last only 1 Year????Now I'm exactly 1 week over the warranty and I have probably to buy a new battery which I think I'm gone buy this time a cheap  non-original one not made by Lenovo, I heard they last about one year and cost a fraction of the original... What do You Think????....a very disappointed customer

I have a brand-new T400 (as of about 2 weeks ago) with a 9cell battery.  It has a P8600, 2gb RAM (1 DIMM), Intel Wireless 5300, Bluetooth, 160 gig 7200 rpm hard drive, etc. Perhaps I expected too much, but as of now, my battery life seems rather poor considering the "brand new Centrino 2" with "improved battery life".  In Windows Vista, with wireless on, bluetooth off, and the screen brightness set between 25 and 50%, I'm lucky to break 6.5 hours.  In Ubuntu, with wireless on, bluetooth off, and the screen brightness set between 25 and 50%, I'm lucky to break 2.5 hours.  Neither of those figures is particularly impressive, I feel (perhaps I had improper expectations), especially considering I'm lugging around a 9 cell battery. Are my expectations wrong, or is my battery/hardware fubar?

I have the exact same config (from what you've described). My 9 cell gave me about 8 hours the first time on max. battery life, but now is only estimating 3 the second charge around.  In addition, my new 4-cell only lasted 1:30 on max battery life.  Why the sudden drop (what's causing my laptop to suck more power?).  I've calibrated/reset the 9-cell once already.Any ideas? edit: RMClock shows an estimate of 28800mW being used.  This is with wifi on, 35% screen brightness, just browsing the web.  Seems pretty high.Message Edited by zachman123 on 09-22-2008 10:25 AM

Using the power saver mode with my Yoga 700, I only have about 4 hours of battery life. Lenovo claims it has up to 7 hours. This is only 57% of the battery life that lenovo advertises. I don't understand how lenovo can advertise this, what additional settings should I be using to get this proclaimed 7 hours of battery life? Very unhappy.

Good afternoon guys!I bought a Y580 about a week ago, and from the very start the battery life has been much below what it's supposed to be.According to the reviews (not specs, actual real world tests) the battery lasts about 4 to 5 hours on web browsing over wi-fi. Mine lasts about 1.5 hours to maybe 2 hours, with wi-fi disabled, GFX card off, almost no CPU usage, and screen dimmed to 1/4 brightness. In other words I'm typing a document, and barely seeing what I'm typing.I have tried:- Stopping all unnecessary processes.- Making sure graphics card is not running.- Dimmed screen a lot.- Read tons of reviews confirming my battery life is not near the average.- Turned all the options I could find to power saver mode, including Lenovo's software, windows battery settings, etc. It's idling temp also varies from 45C to 55C, and 90C max on Prime95. But after much research this seems to be quite normal. I have also realized the battery doesn't charge to the "100% fully charged" state anymore, it reaches 99% and stays there. Even when I let it sleep to charge. Here is what battery care is saying, for some reason it charges more than the deisgn capacity. Is this causing the battery meter to read inacurate battery levels? Or what else can I do to try and solve this issue?

Hi there, My Lenovo E530 is 1 year, 1 month old so I am guessing it is outside of its warranty. However, my battery life is pretty awful compared with what most people seem to be getting. I've running the 2.08 bios as I don't want to  update just yet until I find if it is the srouce of the problem. I have the 75+ battery and an i7. Looking at the battery page I should be able to get 8 hours, atleast 6. I'm getting a maximum of 1 1/2 hours. This is not a new problem, I have had the same thing since I purchased it. It has always been horrifically slow running on the 5400rpm 750GB hdd. I installed an SSD lately and the speed problem was solved. I'm just really disappointed by the battery life. The change logs don't seem to state anything related to battery usage (aside from the WOL leak). Any idea what is wrong here? Regards, Sam

Answer:Lenovo E530 terrible battery life

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Capacity of a battery declines as the battery ages, with the number of charge cycles and time at high temperature. Under average usage patterns your battery maintains approximately 70% of its power capacity after the first year of operation.

If you feel that the battery backup is too low, try doing a battery firmware upgrade and BIOS update. Check the Lenovo support site for any battery firmware updates for your particular model.

Refer this knowledgebase which explains some tips to improve battery backup.

Hope this helps!
Best regards,
Mithun.

Hi guys, I've had my Yoga 900 since December 2015 and I enjoy this ultrabook.  I am concerned about the battery life though. The specs say up to 9 hours of battery life, but based on my usage I would have to say that I am only confident of 6 hours worth of charge. My typical use is as follows: 1) Approximately 75% screen brightness (225 nits)2) Combo of WiFi with multiple Google Chrome tabs open, video and music usage mixed in my typical day. Those of you with the Yoga 900, would you say that this is normal or typical? Thanks, Nik

Last week my laptop was able to get through a 6 and a half hour school day and still have a little charge left over--I could still work on it for another half hour or so when I got home. Yesterday, it died at the end of my first two classes, and that's only about three and a half hours. For my last and longest class, I had to borrow paper for notes. I hadn't even opened my laptop before I got to school. Looking at a full charge now, it says it's only good for 3 hours and 20 minutes.I have no idea what's changed from last week to this one. I haven't installed any updates, and I don't use any programs that eat up a lot of CPU, especially during class. If there's anything different, the fan has been louder than usual. Can anybody shed some light on what might've happened? Edit: some useful information I forgot to add is that this laptop is less than a year old. The battery is much too young to be degrading this quickly.

Does anyone notice wildly varying and/or continuously varying battery life time estimates from Lenovo Power Manager and Windows 7 over the course of their laptop use? Is this normal? I find it hard to believe it is normal due to other laptops running Win 7 I've used that provide steadily declining (and predictable battery run times) vs. the remaining battery life time revisions that I've seen on my Lenovo P50. Thoughts and/or suggestions?

Hi everyone. I recently purchased a Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 2 14 for school and general purposes. In general I really like it, but I have noticed that the battery life is not like the 9h (or was it 6h?) that were advertised. I am getting around 2,5-3,5h of battery life, while I'm doing some light tasks like surfing the web. I should also note that this is with power saving mode on. Have I gotten a bad battery or is this basically what I can expect with this product?  You can see the specs in this link: http://www.prisjakt.nu/produkt.php?e=3019464

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 2 14, poor battery life?

I have the same problem. Probably lasts an hour on a full charge. Piece of crap laptop and Lenovo should recall this garbage. I wouldn't recommend any of their products.

Hello everyoneI had purchased Lenovo Y50 and used the original windows 8.1 shipped with it for four months. I was getting a battery life of close to 5Hrs. Then last week I clean installed Windows 8.1 (original). But after booting into windows the action center was giving an error message that "Compatibility issue between your power management system and Windows.Your power management system isn't compatible with this version of Windows. The model name of your power management system is Lenovo ACPI-Compliant Virtual Power Controller."Then I installed Lenovo Energy management software and this error never came again. But my battery life is very less compared to initial state. Intially it was close to 5 hrs but now I am getting 2-2.5 hrs. All the programs remain the same except Kaspersky Internet Security. Initially it was 2014, now after clean install it is 2015. In the energy manager I see that when windows starts KIS takes upto 90% of battery. But after some use it decreases to less than 1%. Can anyone suggest a possible solution? I am thinking that it might be software issue because battery is relatively new but I maybe wrong. However in the Energy Manager it is showing battery status as Normal. Please help! PS: Forgot to mention that I updated the BIOS with the latest version from the Lenovo site after clean install.

Answer:Lenovo Y50-Battery life decreased after clean install

I did not have any error message after a clean install (Windows 8.1), but I have now only 3 hours battery life with minimum brightness, Power Saver mode and normal web browsing. I didn't perform any battery test before clean the clean install. Anyone from Lenovo can confirm if this is due to the clean install or is it a defective battery?

Unfortunately, even after a 100% charge, I can't get no longer than 4h30 / 5 h of battery lifetime prediction / battery lifetime.  I have already decreased brightness, I almost have no apps running in background, but unfortunately it doesn't gets better. The situation is even worse considering that I'm not doing anything but surfing online, texting in word or taking a look at some pictures in Windows Gallery. Have anyone experienced the same problem? So I haven't used my laptop for a week or so, and when I started it up a few days ago, the battery life turned from a solid 7+ hours to a mere 4 hours! I actually timed how long it took before the battery went down by 1% before this happened, so I did the same test after. When I tested it, for the first time, the battery went down 1% after 270 seconds(almost 5 minutes). Now it seems to lose the same amount of battery in a weak 140 seconds(just a little bit more than 2 minutes!). Can someone please help me find the cause and if I can fix it? I loved this laptop because of its excellent battery life.

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to inform you that this feature has been removed in Lenovo Settings Dependency Package 1.3 or later.

When you install the latest version of the Lenovo Settings Dependency Package, Battery Health Mode will become disabled and the setting will no longer be available to change within Lenovo Settings.  Your battery will always fully charge.

Best regards,
Mithun.

My son has a two year T500 that's been working well (running Windows 7 Professional). Over the summer, I ran System Update and updated a bunch of drivers, including the Power Manager. He's now back at school and says he is only getting an hour and a half of battery life, which is much less than he used to get. Is it possible that the new Power Manager did something to reduce the battery life? I guess it's possible that two years of use has taken its toll but it would be a major coincidence.

Answer:T500 battery life poor since installing Lenovo updates

well what is the full model number of the T500? xxxx-xxx?Also under the information tab in Thinkvantage power manager? what is the full charge capacity and what is the design charge capacity for the battery? If he uses the battery everyday, then after 2 years this behaviour would be considered normal.

For nearly two years I was running only Ubuntu on my Lenovo G570 laptop. Recently I changed to dual-boot with arrival of Windows 8.1 Preview. With that I installed some Lenovo provided applications, prominent one being Energy Management. After few days of application usage, Energy Management suggested that I use 'Optimized Battery Health', based on my usage pattern, to extend battery life. After making this change the battery never charges beyond 50% (I'm always connected to a power source). My understanding is, the application controls charging and maintains constant battery level. Whenever I boot into Ubuntu the same situation (battery never crosses 50%) prevails there. What puzzles me is, there is no Lenovo application on Ubuntu. For that matter I don't use any battery manager on Ubuntu other than the default one. On Ubuntu the battery status shows as 'charging' but the percentage does not change. On Windows the status is 'Not Charging'. I'm now concerned about the long term implications of using this option on Windows and the resulting impact on battery when I switch to Ubuntu now and then. How does a Windows based rule apply on Ubuntu? Does Lenovo Energy Management write something to battery firmware (I don't know about firmware, just a wild guess). What will happen if I remove Windows altogether from my machine?

Answer:Lenovo Energy Management - Battery life on dual boot

Hi Chethan,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I'm sorry that there is issue with Battery status, charging and backup as well, the issue has occured as there is Dual Operating Systems in the computer.

Even if the windows 8 is selected and working on the Kernel files are programmed to check the hardware in the computer, as you have mentioned that the Lenovo Energy Management controls the battery performance and backup by tuning the cells according to the applications and usage of the computer, which is true and can perform to its best when there is one OS(Operaing System) in the computer.

Lenovo Energy Management for Windows 7
Lenovo Energy Management for Windows 8

I would suggest to install only one OS in the computer to avoid further issues and conflicts.

NOTE: Lenovo does not recommend or support multi boot OS as the computer & Lenovo Energy Management is programmed to perform on Windows platform to provide the best performace of the G570 as per OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer).

Please do give this a try and let us know.

Best RegardsShiva Kumar

Hello all, I recently recieved my IdeaPad Y410p from the Lenovo repair centre and they changed my system board for a different issue, but now I have a new problem. I updated Windows to 8.1 and did all the critical updates and then tried to uninstall some of Lenovo's bloatware and now my laptop won't turn on or charge the battery. I tried to do a power drain (remove the battery and hold down the power button), but still no luck. The laptop won't turn on at all with the battery or the plug by itself.  I then waited a few hours and tried to turn on my laptop again and then this time it powered on for some reason! I quickly restored my system back to Windows 8 thinking there was a problem with an update or bloatware uninstallation and then all seemed well until  I powered down my laptop again, but then couldn't power it back on. I called Leneovo and they said it was impossible for it to be a hardware problem since they just repaired it and since I updated everything and then restored it back, which then it still had the same power issues means it most likely isn't software. The only other thing I could think of is there might be a problem with the power adapter, but I've had this laptop since July 2013 and the adapter was working perfectly fine and this problem only started once I received my laptop back from Lenovo after a "repair". Any other suggestions would be very much appreciated at this point. Thanks!

Hi there -  I wanted to add that I am having the same problem. I sent my Lenovo in for warranty repair (rear left hinge broke) - I got it back Friday May 16th and ever since then it won't stay on and sometimes won't turn on. I called Lenovo warranty support and (of course) they denied it was their problem. However, I complained enough that they're going to send me a new one. Of course, you have to be in-warranty for this to work. Just a suggestion Hope you get your straightened out!!!

A while back, we discovered the battery maintenance error, where the "stop charging at 90%" feature would cause the battery to only charge partially to like 50% but read that it was fully charged, and then it would turn off early. This was the thread. I know it's a BIOS issue, and I will update eventually, but the partial charge happened to me again, and it got me thinking: Do I really need the Power Manager? I use the Power Manager to configure Turbo Boost clock speed and all that, and I suppose the Turbo+ button does crank up the fan, but I can use TPFancontrol to manually control the fan, and I found that Windows power settings by itself allows me to set the clock speed however I want, using a percentage. Setting all the numbers at 45% parks the clockspeed at 1.2GHz, a good compromise for battery life and performance. The best Power Manager can do is to cycle between 700Mhz all the way up to 2.7Ghz, which throws battery life out the window. So, will I lose anything by just uninstalling Power Manager?

Answer:Life without Lenovo Power Manager: Any thoughts? [battery issue, charging error]

Technically the answer is no, Power Manager is optional.  However, it is a good option for Windows 7 users. It does expose more power management to the user than the power settings under Control panel. Until they release the Windows 8 version and I run it for a few weeks, I won't know what to say about that environment.

Just make sure you have all of the proper drivers, the Windows 8 key (should be located on the bottom of your laptop), and the right version of Windows 8.Otherwise, nothing really. I've reinstally Windows 7 on my desktop over 5 times. Windows just might ask you every so often to validate your OS (which you can give them the one you used). Hope that helps.

Hello, I got a Lenovo Y410P notebook and I can't make ExpressCache work after a clean Windows 10 install. I just got everything working, cleaned the partition with Diskpart and EC was working great, the problem is when I restart the computer the boot atribute the SSD partition as OEM, with GPT archtecture so when after each reboot the ExpressCache stop working. Someone know how to stop boot from doing this to the SSD partition? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Lenovo y410p drivers - Windows 8.1

hi philrobichaud7,

Did you upgrade the unit to Windows 8.1
If not then there's no need to download drivers because it should all come preload.

If yes, open device manager and only if you have an exclamation mark there, that you need to install it's driver

To all owners of X1 Carbon 2017 (5th gen).I read all of those reviews where people are impressed by 10+ hours of battery life (15,5h advertised), but I can't really figure out how....!? First time I tested was a normal working day - Firefox (a lot of Flash it must be said), Outlook, Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat. Nothing really heavy, no peripherals except Bluetooth mouse. Brightness dimmed 1 level below the ideal. It lasted for about 4 hours! I windows's list of apps affecting battery life, Firefox was on 1st place with 32-35% Second attempt - same set of tasks, however less Firefox (no flash) - 7 hours. Now in the middle of a 3rd attempt (using Opera this time) - battery time remaining indication goes over 10h only when I completely stop using the laptop Not many apps running in the background either (Dropbox, Skype...) So my question - do you guys get more than 10h of battery life and HOW? Do you enable "Battery Stretch"? How actively do you use it and for what?

What does "whipped hard drive" mean ?

Why are you following guides about an installation error - have you had that happen?

Not sure what the question is.

Initially battery life increased for my laptop ASUS S400CA from 2:35 to 3:35. Now it has come down to 2:30. In between I changed battery saver from 100 to 60. Now again I changed to 100. Still battery life is going down.
I would like to know about other users exp.

Any solution to increase it.

Hi

First of all, I am new to the forum so hi to everyone! This forum so far looks fantastic and so do the members!

Getting to the issue: I currently have Vista and want to not have Vista ASAP!
I need to know if Windows 7 improves on battery life, and if so, by how much? Please provide your knowledge and links(if any) to outside websites that has looked at 7 battery life.

I have a Dell M1530 laptop which has about 5 hours battery life on balance settings. But I really need about 6-8 hours for my work. Many thanks in advance.

I know this is an advertised benefit of Windows 7, but now I can testify first-hand to the better battery life. I bought a laptop with Vista on it, and upgraded it to 7 today. I charged the battery before installing, and unplugged it soon after it started installing.

I haven't plugged it in yet. I have been using it for about 2.5 hours now, and the battery is at 73%.

Granted, it is a very good battery, but if this had been Vista, it would be at about 20% by now.

Windows 7 is a great OS, isn't it?

Answer:Windows 7 and battery life

Hi Jonathan,

I think most Members would agree that Windows 7 wins hands down over Vista. I think that it is true that Vista should have never been marketed, in so many ways it was not ready. Windows 7, is basically Vista under the hood with additional features and benefits that should have been claimed by Vista. Your battery experience, for one, security, aero, driver availablity to mention just a few. Enjoy your new computer, Jonathan, and keep busy on the keyboard, helping us at the Forum.

I have a Acer Aspire V5 laptop. When I was running Win 8.1, the battery life wasn't great, but lasted about 2 1/2 - 3 hours.
Now that I upgraded to Windows 10, the last time I turned it on the battery meter said 52 %. Two minutes later, it was dead.
I just turned it on after charging it, and the meter read 98%, 1 hr 50 min remaining. I haven't touched it yet, and five minutes later the battery's down to 90 %, although it says that there's 3 hr 5 min remaining. When I do any work on it, the battery goes down drastically. Does this have anything to do with Windows 10?

Preface... (and yes, this is one of my infamous "Megaposts" and this one might be in several parts, so, bear with me and get edjumicated...

I found that link about this "new" power configuration diagnostic in Windows 7 and posted it in the other thread, but as it'll get buried in the muck soon enough, and considering just how vital this specific tool could turn out to be in terms of maximizing the potential battery life/run-time of laptops and notebooks (and Tablet PCs too) that will use Windows, I figured this specific topic is very deserving of its own thread, so here it is.

What I'm hoping this thread will be about is related to a diagnostic tool that, until recently, has been relatively unknown (and I admit I just discovered info about it last week myself, so I'm cobbling together a bunch of information from a variety of sources, several being Microsoft and blogs from MSDN folk, and some Windows 7 developers also, and putting it in this one post/thread.

Hopefully there will be some intelligent discussion as time goes by as the more I do research on this the more I realize it could very well be one of the coolest things - and gain one of the most vital aspects - about Windows 7.

So let's get this thing started... who knows, maybe this'll get stickied like some other stuff I've written about... if people deem it valuable, by all means, tell the Admins/Mods and point people to it as needed.

Hello, I have new Lenovo laptop, type T430s (2353-2QV). I was realized to try Windows 8 and reinstalled it using lenovo w8 drivers. But something is wrong with battery life. It is very weak. I was hope that I can use my laptop on battery more than 4 hours, but depens on usage, I can use it maximum for about 3 hours. And that is not right, from my point of view. I do not have informatiom how much time is battery life on W7, but I think it is much better. Please, can anybody  tell me if it is right or not and what I can do with it? I welcome the response not only from users with same type of laptop. Thank you in advance.Peter

I, like many others, had Windows 10 installed automatically when I wasn't home. I'm not necessarily opposed to this except that it has OBLITERATED my battery life. As an ultrabook user, I primarily own my Lenovo T431s because it can last me days at a time, or at least one day of heavy usage (8+ hours). However, I noticed that since Windows 10 was introduced my usage time is not nearly the same. Just listening to music will result in 1-2 hours at best, even with dim settings. I have to count the minutes every time I take my laptop off the charger.
I've read that MS is working on optimizing performance, but this is beyond optimization -- something must be actively draining the machine. Any thoughts?

Answer:Windows 10 Destroyed my Battery Life

Hello oobio

Welcome to tenForums!

To investigate your battery usage please have a look at the following tutorial and work through the steps:

https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/3...dows-10-a.html

Then you should also run the power efficiency report:
https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/5...dows-10-a.html

Looking through these reports will help you identify at what times in the day the battery was drained the most, hopefully you can relate it to what you were doing. You may also find there are a number of settings you can tweak to improve battery performance based on the analysis.

Hi folks, Had a quick search but can't find discussion of this. How are people finding the battery life since the upgrade? I'm finding that it's even worse than it was before - and it's always been pretty terrible. I reckon i'm getting about 3 hours on average.  Does anyone have any tips as to how I can monitor what's using up the battery? Ideally a bit like battery monitor apps on Android. I've also noticed a general performance degredation - Chrome becomes all choppy and slow. Not sure what's going on there but I'm guessing the two things are linked if the CPU is under a heavy load. Cheers Alex

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro battery life under Windows 10

My battery life is about the same as 8.1 (6 to 6.5 hrs). I use a program called BatteryBar that will monitor your usage and gives pretty accurate predictions of when you battery will run down. It doesn't track specific programs however. Also, keep an eye on tasks running in the background using task manager while you think it should be idle. You can minimize the task manager to the icon tray to help with this. I also run the displlay at 2048x1152 resolution (@150% scaling)  which makes apps like chrome scroll a little smoother (perhaps due to less data being displayed). Not sure if that helps battery life or not. There a lots of sites you can google to track down specific issues with battery life.

hi people, I updated my x230 to windows 8 yesterday since the power management tool had been updated too but no matter what I do, I can't seem to get my power consumption to 6-7 watts like I could with windows 7, it won't go below 14-15 watts... so basically I have 5-6 hours of autonomy instead of my beloved 12-13 hours I think it may be because of the metro interface that require constant updates to display fresh content what can I do? did any of you encounter this problem? any idea of solution?

I upgraded my Nokia Lumia Icon from 8.1 to the most current slow ring build of Win 10 Mobile. Since upgrading to Win 10 my Icon's battery life is horrible. Within a couple hours my phone will drop 30-40% with little to no use.
I am curious, is this a problem experienced by others? I am wondering if a clean install of Win 10 Mobile will solve/help the problem (I did not do a clean upgrade to Win 10), or if this is just "the nature of the beast?"
Thank you in advance for your replies!

I remember when windows 7 first came out the reports of battery life being less than when running vista. I am wondering with newer drivers being released if the battery life of windows 7 is less than/equal/ or greater than running vista. I've been wanting to upgrade but have found few reasons to upgrade but battery life might make me want to reconsider

Disregard. I realized that my timing samples had been taken shortly after start up and not after doing work for a while. Seems things are as per advertised here. Just need to get the msata drive in and clone it. Did that in the x220t and it was a nice boost to startup and shutdown, and overall system responsivness.
