Lenovo ideapad Z500 turbo boost

Question: Lenovo ideapad Z500 turbo boost

I have a lenovo ideapad Z500 which has 3rd gen core i7-3632QM and 8GD DDR3 RAM. I just installed black ops game, i could notice that there was huge lagging on the screen and things were very slow. My laptop was running with AC adapter. In the task manager, the speed shown is just 1.17GHz.What is actually causing lag? The laptop came with Nvidia GT740M 2GB DDR3 graphics card. I ran the game with high performance graphic processor (GT740M), but still the game lags. Is there anything i must check out with the turbo boost? The processor has a speed of 2.2GHz and can turbo boost upto 3.2GHz. Please help me out. Thanks in advance!!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My laptop (lenovo IdeaPad Y570 (08622KU), comes with an i7-2630QM and when I bought it, the description said that it had Turbo Boost, from 2GHz w/o to 2.9GHz with. My problem is that the Intel Turbo Boost is not working. Is there anything that I can do to make it work? As I have looked through my BIOS and have not seen anything pretaining to it, not even CPU clock speed or nothing, which is wierd, and the BIOS is up-to-date as when I tried to flash my bios it said it was older than the one I already had.I have downloaded the Intel Turbo Boost Technology monitor 2.0 and I do not see it go above 2.00GHz when I start to play games. Is there anyway for me to get turbo boost to work?As I have downloaded Throttlestop and enabled Turbo boost through that way, but it is only temporary, is there any solution on how I can get it to work? Also there is no Intel Turbo Boost Service in Serivces

I have an X220.  I see on power settings that Intel Turbo Boost is enabled but the "Lenovo Turbo Boost+" consistently shows disabled unless I go in an manually enabled.  Before you ask . . . I have researched this online and did check BIOS and other settings and think I have everything enabled that should be for the turbo boost function. Does the turbo boost (which I associate with the fan coming on) come on only when needed?  Or should there be a setting I enable so that it is on all the time (or at least more often).  Admittedly I don't tax my machine too hard at the moment. X220.  4GB Ram, W7 Professional, 64 Bit. I am looking now - Intel Turbo Boost Enabled.   Lenovo Turbo Boost+ Disabled. I word searched the X220 user guide as well and saw no information on the difference in the two or really anything else.  Check the communities as well for this. Thanks for responses in advance.

In intel extreme tuning ultility, I see the turbo boost is disabled for my i7 8550u and the max clock is 2.0 GHZ. After I updated my BIOS to 1.02, I saw the max clock was 3.9 GHZ for a few seconds and then it came back to 2.0 GHZ. The turbo boost is still turned off. There is not a option for turbo boost in BIOS menu. How can I turn on the turbo boost? Thank you for your help.

I recently bought a lenovo Y-50 (59421845). I am a newbie so please excuse the newbie questions.I am using it mostly in the plugged in and use the High Performance setting in Power mangagement options. a) What is maximum speed I can expect from i-7 4710HQ CPU when it is in Turbo boost mode. I seem to getting around 3.4 GHz but not reaching the maximum 3.5 GHz as per specifications. Is this normal? b) When any application starts using the Nvidia GTX 860M GPU, It seems the Turbo boost mode is immidiately disabled and processor speed comes down to 2.45 GHz. This is despite CPU and GPU temperature in the 60 to 70 C range. Is this normal. c) What kind of GPU/ CPU temperatures can be considered acceptable. I have seen Maximum temperatures hit 90 C. But on an average they seem to levelling of in the low 80's.d) What is the GPU temperature at which CPU throttling takes effect. e) Is it neccessary to keep the base of the Laptop Elevated when using heavy applications. I would really appreciate any replies.

Answer:Lenovo Y-50 Turbo boost questions

At default settings, the maximum multiplier the 4710HQ uses is 35 so the maximum speed is approximately 3500 MHz. http://ark.intel.com/products/78930/Intel-Core-i7-4710HQ-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_50-GHz?q=4710 This is only possible when a single core of the CPU is active.  As soon as more cores become active, the maximum multiplier will decrease.  When lightly loaded, the maximum multiplier can be constantly changing hundreds of times a second depending on how many cores are currently active.  Some monitoring apps do not do a great job of tracking this activity.  Give RealTemp a try.  It has a built in benchmark program called the XS Bench.  It is a single threaded benchmark so when your CPU is mostly idle and you run this test, the CPU should be able to spend the majority of its time using the maximum multiplier.  There are hundreds of Windows background threads constantly running that need to be processed.  This causes addional cores to exit various C States which reduces the maximum multiplier.  As soon as one of these tasks is completed, the CPU can go back to running at full speed again.  RealTemp uses high performance monitoring timers and a method recommended by Intel to accurately determine the maximum multiplier while this is going on.  With a lean system and not a lot of background junk, RealTemp should report something very close to the full 35.0 multiplier. b) The problem with the Y50 and my Y... Answer:LENOVO G780 TURBO BOOST failed?

The cpu boost works just fine , but the 630m gpu has underclocked clock rates because Lenovo disabled the boost to 800 mhz and also locks any overclocking.

I have just bought a Lenovo X201 3626-HMG with Intel i5 M520 with Windows 7 32 bit with the latest BIOS 6QET47WW (1.17) I installed Intel Turbo Boost Technology Monitor and discovered that the computer never entered Turbo Boost even during high load. As a temporary fix I downloaded and ran ThrottleStop . Just, without changing any settings, clicked "Turn On" button and then "Turn Off" and shut down the program. After that Turbo Boost was activated and worked as it should. But one needed to do it at every start-up. I finally pinpointed my problem. The setting "Optimize the fan control" in "Lenovo´s Power Controls" had been by mistake set to "Balance all parameters" and not "Maximum performance" in the Power Plan called "Maximum Performance". This disables Turbo Boost! The problem was solved by just setting the "Optimize the fan control" to  "Maximum performance". Simple solution but it took me almost 12 hours to discover.

Answer:Why no Intel Turbo Boost Downloads for Lenovo Notebooks?

Intel turbo boost is enabled and working on y570. From what I've noticed, in heat dissipation mode it is always enanbled until CPU reaches 90 degrees, then it disables for minute or two and that usually returns CPU/GPU to 80-84, and then re-enables again(it doesn't start throttling, it only disables turbo). IMO, it's quite reasonable behaviour, 90 degrees isn't too high temp for these CPUs/GPUs. If you want, you can monitor cpu freqs/multipliers/temps via many utilities, I use hwinfo32 for it.About drivers - afaik windows/macOS and, I think, linux support intel turbo boost out of the box, so I don't think any drivers are needed to control it.Edit: it seems I was right. A bit more info about turbo boost . The first paragraph says that no additional drivers are required for all major OS.

Hello everybody, I have a Lenovo Y550P with i7 720qm processor. The specs for quad processor are 1.6Ghz baseline, and 2.8 with turbo boost (for one processor mode). The issue is that turbo boost seems disabled by default. The BIOS, Insyde H2O Bios, doesn't allow any modification. Generally, the turbo boost option would be available in the Bios. I'm not sure if no one else noticed, but the laptop never passes the 1.6 Ghz threashold, so I assume turbo boost is disabled by default on the Bios. There my question, how to enable turbo boost? I saw that the Bios may have a hidden advanced menu, but that thread has that question opened since February and none answered. Is this possible? Is the laptop restricted to 1.6Ghz?

Hi Everyone, I did start another thread about this but thought I would be a bit more specific this time around so I do apologise for my previous effort but this is so frustrating coming from someone who is a noob at this sort of stuff.I recently at the direction of Lenovo support, had to update my BIOS/Firmware on a less than 2 months old machine as there was an issue coming from inside my box where the fan would just randomly start runnng fast and loud when I was in the middle of a game (Watch Dogs 2, WOW or Prepar3d).I was initially directed to go to Nvidia as I have a GE Force 1080 card as there were some issues with those and fans running fast. I downloaded latest drivers and all went well for several days but then the noise was back but it sounded different. When I messaged Lenovo that`s when they directed me to downlaod latest BIOS/Firmware update as this may solve my issue. I did this BIOS/Firmware update, system update, you name it I updated what needed to be updated.I did this and from between the time I downloaded and updated what needed to be updated and today, I have not been into the Lenovo Nerve Centre. I go in there today and the first thing that I got come up in a big dialogue box in the midle of the nerve centre was that this PC is not compatible with overclocking and to please contact the supplier etc... etc...When I clicked past this option I then noticed that the "Turbo Boost" section had disappered where you can not only go in and overclock the syste... HI! I have just purchased an Ideapad Z500 3rd Gen i5 laptop around 10 days back and am seriously fed up with the performance. From the very first day, the machine is working slow, the USB ports are giving me problems right since day 1. On top of it, yesterday, when I tried to eject a pen drive, there is a small part which has come out of the laptop alongwith the Pen Drive. I am sure, it has something to do with the USB port. Furthermore, today the keyboard panel has started to pop up slightly. Also, the machine works pretty slow, as compared to the excellent configuration which I had chosen. Someone please help! I need to get this laptop replaced immediately. I wonder if it was my mistake to choose lenovo over other brands. Please please help. The Serial No. of the machine is xxxxxxxxxxx and the model no. is 20202. Expecting a quick response from the Customer care team. Regards, Sunil Rijhwani Cell:xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Dear Lenovo community, I would like to change the HDD of my Lenovo z500 with a SSD. Moreover, since I have problem with the OS (win 8.1) I intend to format the PC and reinstall it. My question is: after the substitution of the HDD and the install of the new OS will I still be able to use the hotkeys (pc brightness, volume etc.) of my keyboard or have I to install some additional software or set them in the BIOS? Moreover, have I to install lenovo energy management (to control the battery) and the intel hd graphics drivers? thanks for the attention

Answer:lenovo ideapad z500 hotkey

Hi mardix1982 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Would you still be able to boot to Windows on the original image ?
You may create a recovery image first that can be useful on the SSD change or even clone it after a factory restore (One Key recovery page 23) using the SSD software or other tools.

Since there be no changes on the BIOS , hotkey features under configuration setting should stay enabled.
All other drivers and power management tool such as Lenovo Energy Manager are available from the support site.

You may also order purchasable Windows installer with drivers by calling technical support .

I have also tried a system recovery attempted an intital as I did not have on saved and that didn't work either. Does anyone have any experience with this issue and/or can advise? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad z500 - Won't boot

Hi Aidso,

Welcome to Lenovo forums.

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with the system not booting in your Lenovo Z500 laptop.

Try to boot the system to safe mode and select system restore to the latest date and check for the issue.

If still the issue persist, then in safe mode uninstall the display driver in device manager and restart the machine and check for the issue.

Check if the system is overheating while playing games or while using any applications.

Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!

Best regards,

I've recently started experiencing issues with my Ideapad Z500. The warranty has expried, and so i cannot send it off to get repaired. I've replaced the laptop charger, with multiple different ones, all working, and yet it will still not charge. It will not turn on when plugged into the mains. I've attempted to remove the battery, and power through the mains, and yet it will still not power on. I've replaced the internal power jack (one which connects to the motherboard), and yet it will still not charge. There is no visible signs on the motherboard as to scorch marks where it could of shorted out.  From my point of view, everything is as it should be, but the laptop will just not power on at all. Any ideas on what can be done to get this working again?

Hey guys,I own an IdeaPad Z500, with a ST500LM012 HN-M500MBB 500 GB HDD made by Samsung.I would like to make an upgrade with a 1TB HDD, which I would place in the HDD Caddy (DVD/CD Drive replacement). And I was also planning to get a Samsung 840 EVO SSD, which I would place in the primary HDD slot.BUT, the HDD I have at the moment is 9,5mm thick. If you have the 7.0mm drive it can also be accomodated. medo994 wrote: ...And is there any chance I can fit a 12,5mm HDD either in the primary HDD slot or in the HDD caddy? Answer: For the primary hdd slot, the hdd/ssd mounting cage is designed for 9.5mm, thus a 7.0mm or 9.5mm hdd/ssd will fit. However, a 12.5 mm will not fit. For the caddy, you will have to consult the caddy specs if it will accomodate a 12.5mm hdd. Also you may have to check the dimension of the caddy against the ODD to see if it will fit in the ODD slot.

If you have the IntelŽ CentrinoŽ Wireless-N 2230 (wifi/bluetooth combo adapter), can you try to:

1. update your wireless driver below:

IntelŽ PROSet/Wireless Software and Drivers for Windows 8* (install this first)
IntelŽ PROSet/Wireless Bluetooth Software for Windows 8*

After updating the drivers, check if the wifi is now stable.

2. If same problem, press Winkey+R > type ncpa.cpl, On the list of connections, look for bluetooth and do a right click > disable and observe the wifi connection.

Answer:Lenovo ideapad z500 brightness adjustment

hi shockwave3,

Can you try to apply the fix by s_roland on this thread (see page 2):

http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-Z-and-P-series/Ideapad-z500-brightness-can-t-increase/td-p....

The solution was to:1. Clean install Windows 72. After installing Windows, install the Intel Chipset Driver and reboot.3. Install Lenovo Energy Management and reboot.
4. Install Intel Video Drive for Windows 7 64bit and reboot.
5. Pressing Fn+ F11/F12 to toggle the brightness should now work.

Hope this helps

I have an ideapad z500 which I'm happy for, but it annoys me that when 'm at my college I can't properly connect to the wi-fi the school has. When I connect, I'm on for usually about half an hour, but then I get the "limited connection" yellow triangle and I have to deactivate the networkcard before I can get a normal connectionOther times I simply just can't connect, it tries but it fails. When it does, I have to reboot the computer before it succeeds, and that's no good when you are working on a project. At home i have no problems, it works nicely. Also, if there are anybody who knows how to enable the WiDi on the z500, it would be greatly appreciated. I hope there are some of you tech savvy's who can help me out.  PS: My PC is running Win 8 with the Intel Centrino n2230, Intel 3rd. gen i7 (3632qm)

I recently tried to turn on my z500 after dropping it on the charging port whilst it was charging. However, after trying to turn it on it wouldnt start. I have tried the hard reset of pressing the button every 1 second 10 times and then holding the power button for 30 seconds.I have also replaced the charging cable inside the laptop and also used a spare charger.  Disconnecting the battery does not resolve the issue eitherWhen plugging in the charger, the battery light does not light up as well.Is there any solution to this? Thanks!

Hi all thanks for taking the time to read my post I own a basic lenovo ideapad z500, the 4gb ram version with i5 Processor.I was interested in upgrading the RAM in the laptop, using CRUCIAL Memories diagnostic tool, I wanted to order another 4gb of RAM to help speed the laptop up. What screwdriver do I need to open up the laptop? What is its name or is it a generic one for all of the screws to get to the RAM BAYS? I am unsure as to what one i need. Thanks so much.

- right now the laptop wont start up at all it just gets stuck on the lenovo boot screen/ restarts itself- laptop is trying to do something and feel hot- i have reinstalled using lenovo one key recovery twice, 1st time finished in an hr or so, 2nd time took about 25 hrs- system recovery using the NOVO key doesnt work- i only backed up my personal files, it was mostly smooth (~20MB/s) but there were random files that went really slow/stuttered (~0 to maybe 100 kB/s)- opened up the whole thing, tried clean/replug hard drive does this mean i need a new hard drive? if so, how do i go about installing windows on the new one because laptop wont start so i cant backup windows files for the registration key? thanks

Answer:Lenovo ideapad z500 hard drive problem?

Sure looks like the hard drive is failing, and needs to be replaced.     If it is under warranty, I would have it fixed under warranty.     If not, Lenovo support should be able to send you recovery media to reinstall Windows (WIndows 8?), and I believe on that model the Windows Product ID is stored in the BIOS, so the Windows product ID key will be applied automatically when you reinstall. Good Luck  http://www.lenovo.com/contact/uk/en/  Lenovo Support - United Kingdom0333-777-3991 (National Rate)9:00 - 18:00 Monday - Friday

Hello everyone, I was thinking in replacing my Intel Core i5 processor with the i7 3632QM. (I looked up into the online  z500 Hardware maintenance manual and that model was included), So I'm posting here in order to know if somebody made the same change and If it was worthy. I searched for the component and the only reliable online shop was this one > http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Intel-Core-i7-3632QM-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3-20-GHz-rPGA-... But I don't know If it will work 100% sure, or if there is any guarantee it will be worthy.  (And no, I don't want to change laptop). Thank you for your help.

Looking for a fix to this screen flickering issue on my Lenovo Ideapad Z500 Touch Screen Notebook. I took it to the Service Center and the technicians there changed the LCD cable that connects the screen with the motherboard. Still, The problem persists. The engineers over there do not seem to have a clue whether this problem is Hardware or Software and I don't wish to unnecessary get my machine disassembled again. This flicker does not happen continuously though. My notebook works fine if i keep it unmoved on the desk. But the moment i try to adjust the lid or move my notebook around, the flickering starts. To stop it, I simply put my machine on sleep mode or close the lid for 5 odd minutes. Upon wake up, The Screen again appears to work fine minus any flicker. Would appreciate any help in this regard. I have also captured a Video of the problem. Please Refer: http://youtu.be/kp12dYt6OWE

I am having the same problem.  The screen, it seems to be the touch screen like someone is touching it, Also, magnifies in and out.  If I move the laptop, or the screen that can cause it to start.  Or it just starts by its self, if I leave it on, when I come back it flickering.  I have to close it down and start all over again.I took it to a shop, they tried a few things but couldn't fix it, some suggestions: they thought it might be something to do with the graphics?? Maybe!   If anybody has this problem and sloved it, be really good to hear from you.

Hi utkutrk ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You can try testing individual key specially FN and spacebar if it is working.

Turn off the machine and disconnect the ac charger and battery if you have the tools.
Press down the power button for 12 seconds to drain flea power.
Place back the battery and connect the ac charger.
Restart to check if backit keyboard works ( test further with FN + spacebar pressing 2-4 times).

Update us how it goes.

Dear All,I installed Linux mint in my Lenova Ideapad z500 (windows 8 preinstalled without any dvd). Linux mint asked me to create a partition on the hard drive where windows 8 is also installed. I did. Linux mint worked fine but I could not boot my Windows 8! Then I used few boot utilities and I was successful to start Windows 8. While I was in windows I deleted the linux mint partition. But now when I try to boot windows 8, the boot process begins and I get an error message that something went wrong and the boot process must restart...and the loop repeats again and again! Lenovo has a one key recovery...I tried it but it does not work! I used Ubuntu live CD and made a picture (attached) of my different partitions of my hard drive. I marked the two partitions in red which were together before installing linux mint. My questions is can I merge this two partitions? Will it solve the problem? I will appreciate any suggestions very much.ThanksShariful

Since I installed windows 8.1 I have been experiencing issues while shutting down. It looks like windows is shutting down correctly, then the screen goes black and it hangs for like 10-15 minutes with the fan still spinning and the leds still on. After a while the system restarts, even when I clicked shutdown. This happens for shutdown, restart and when it goes to sleep. The only way to shut down the system right now is to hold the power button and kill the power. Windows does not give any errors in the logs. I tried updating all drivers, disabling fast boot in the power options and tried changing several power options. Nothing changed.Could someone please help me out?

Helloto the point: i want to underclock the speed of memory from 1333 to 800. But to do that, i need to go into BIOS Advanced option (chipset) and here is the problem. There is no advanced option in my BIOS version 3.7 in my Z500 ideapad. Is there any chance of getting there ? Or this option is locked ?
