I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Z500 - How to stop using battery when plugged in?

HiYour best option would be to work without the battery while using plugged in. Your othere option would be using energy management to limit the battery charge to 60%. Just set the battery mode to"optimize for battery life span"Regards

Answer:Z500 touch battery issue plugged in not charging

hi lebanese,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

If you're following this article on how to fix the battery charging issue for the Z500 Touch but a "No battery attached" error appears, try to turn the computer off and hold the power button for 20secs. When done, boot back into Windows and check if the battery is now detected.

If same "No battery attached" error appears then I'm afraid this firmware update won't work as the battery or the connection of the battery to the motherboard might be defective (the battery needs to be connected for the firmware update to work).

- Link to picture

I recommend you contact Lenovo and report the issue as you may need to send the unit for service.

This is in response to the problem everyone is having with the battery not charging when plugged in. I found this in the guide for my idea pad Z400. It should help many of you to finally make peace with your battery Battery (B):      Battery Mode (B-1):  By using the battery maintenance function, it is possible to extend the battery lifespan. Before you use this function, read the precaution. Energy Management 8.0 can automatically track your habit of battery use, and then provide suggestions on selecting a battery maintenance mode for extending the battery lifespan. Two battery modes are provided: Maximum Battery Life and Optimized Battery Health.       Maximum Battery Life: In this mode, the battery has the most powerful charging capacity. Note that this mode cannot optimize the battery circle lifespan.       Optimized Battery Health: In this mode, the battery limits charging to 60% of its full capacity. This can reduce the battery degradation and extend the battery lifespan.

Hello. First of all, thank you for taking the time to view my post and potentially help me out. So the problem is that my laptop will not start. I was using my laptop here one day and it was working fine, but it was unable to charge for some reason and ended up shutting down so I went to bed. The next morning I tried turning it on, but it was dead. I have tried a different charger as my sister also has a lenovo laptop, but this did not work either. I would think if the battery was the problem, the laptop should still be working with the charger in? I have tried calling support line several times with no answer, the warranty has gone out and I forgot where i bought the laptop sadly. Really frustrated over here, and any help is highly appreciated!

If not my product is still under warranty, any suggestions? Regards,Dhruv

Answer:lenovo z500 charger is plugged in but not charging

When this has happened to me with my laptops, it meant a hardware problem. Either the adapter is broken or the power jack is broken inside your laptop, or had been bent off. You can try to solder a replacement back on the motherboard if your laptop isn't under warranty. Or take it to a repair shop if that isn't too expensive. Either way, I don't think downloading anything is going to help you.

This started happening yesterday with my laptop. When I plug in the AC adaptor, it provides power to my laptop but doesn't charge it. My laptop battery is at 0% so whenever I unplug the adaptor, it dies instantly. Anyone know if this is a dead battery or another issue?

Things have been good with my Yoga 3 pro until this weekend. Battery life was a good 5-6 hours, but after a recent windows update it appears the battery will no longer charge. It shows plugged in and charging and shows increasing charge but after un plugging it will dim the screen as if it's in power save and then die within 10-15 minutes. I reverted to before the update but that did not solve the problem. It happened all of a sudden so I assumed it was related to the update. Please help, love the machine but this makes it unusable.

Hi, all. I have had my Ideapad P400 for a few years now and i have never encountered a problem like this one. I just recently upgraded to Windows 10, which i actually like a lot, and all of a sudden, my battery says "plugged in, not charging." It will only charge up to 59% and it dies very quickly. I thought it was the battery, so i bought a replacement and installed it. It did the same exact thing. I've tried doing a battery reset in the energy management window, i have tried downgrading to windows 8 again, and i have tried looking up different firmware updates that could potentially fix the problem, but nothing. If anyone has any idea on how to fix this problem of mine, i greatly appreciate it. This is really my last shot before i have to take it in to be repaaired. Thanks! -Frank C. (P.S. This is my first time posting in any forum, so i hope i didnt leave anything out.)

Hi maoxiaomin,Thanks for posting and welcome to the community. Based from your post does sound a bit similar to a machine I have which is the Y500. In my case I had to send my machine in to servie for board replacement as they detected it to be faulty. However in your case, I'm not saying that this is the exact same case but let look at the the possibilities first and if all still fails you'll need to contact our service team for further diagnosis.Understandably we've established that you've update the BIOS, battery firmware and ever rest you BIOS.Firsting first though could you uninstall the Lenovo energy mangement and reinstall it back from the Link belowWin8 :http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/em8.08.0.2.4.exeWin8.1http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/em8180214.exeHope this helps and please do post back your results.Regards

It looks like the problem is pretty the same as with "Ideapad Z400 or Z500 battery will not charge - plugged in not charging". My battery worked fine when the OS was Vista , Windows 8, but after windows 8.1 installation it was "plugged but no charging". I already have reinstalled the windows, nothing happened. I tried to install the same firmware as Z500, but it isn't work. Lenovo Solution Center displays battery as "Battery software not installed". Downloading and running Settings Dependency Package does not help. I can't find a new firmware in any place  Please Help! By the way, I checked my windows version, and it appears Windows 8 Pro (like it was before I tried to upgrade to win 8.1)

I have an XPS 9550 6th Gen running Windows 10 (Just over 1 year, out of warranty).
The issue is when the charge plug is plugged in and hovering over the battery icon it says that battery is charging.  However the battery is not charging but discharging until the laptop switches off.  The only way for the battery to charge again is to deplete the battery until the laptop is unresponsive when the power button is pushed to switch lap top on.  Once there is no residual power in the battery it will start charging again to 100% after which the cycle repeats, discharge.
Things I have tried.
Latest Bios update - no change
Another A/C charger - worked ok for a few days
Replaced battery - no change
Bios settings - reset to default (info related to battery and A/C charge reports all good)
F12 - Dell diagnostics, reports all good
When Battery is disconnected the laptop works normally
The laptop charge socket seems tight and secure
I have searched the internet exhaustively but have not found this same issue reported.  The only feasible way I can use the laptop is to disconnect the battery.
Can anyone suggest anything?
I would also like to disable the battery instead of having to open it up to disconnect, is this possible?
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks
Andrew

Hi,I have an IBM T60, my battery works fine. Lost an hour of battery life from when it was first bought, but that's not the issue. When I plug in my charger sometimes (most times), I check the battery thing in the taskbar and it says "Plugged in, not charging". I worked out how to resolve this by taking my battery out, leaving it out, while the laptop is plugged in, and then putting it back in Sometimes I get home from school and the battery is at 20%, I just charge it over night, or think i am, and it doesn't. That's the issue, I don't realise it!  please help. Thankyou.

Oh, and another thing. This happens to my brother aswell (also owns a T60); the laptop would be working fine, until it decides to give us a black screen. Only way out of this is to put it to sleep, and wake it up again. Nothing in particular starts this issue. Thanks

Ever since yesterday I've had this problem, I tried several solutions and none of them worked. Basically the problem is: The laptop only works on battery now. When the battery is at 0% the laptop turns off even if the AC is plugged in. To make matters worse, when the laptop is on I get this message "plugged, not charging". So basically the AC no longer works by itself and only charges the battery when the laptop is off. Here is what I tried so far:- Changing the settings on the Lenovo Energy Mangement tool- Uninstalling the Lenovo Energy Mangement tool - Taking off the battery and AC, pushing the power button for 30 seconds, putting them back in and turning on the laptop.- Starting the laptop on safe mode- Praying to God None of these things worked. Somebody help.

My battery all of a sudden won't charge. The computer works with remaining battery (when AC is not plugged in). The computer works with the battery removed when plugged in. But if battery is in and the computer is plugged into the outlet, it does not charge the battery, nor does it recognize that it is plugged in. It only tries to run on the remaining battery. WHen the battery is in and the computer is using the AC adapter, I get a blinking white light next to the plug for the AC adapter. I have two separate batteries, and it is doing the same thing on both batteries. I have tried deleting the  Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and the Microsoft AC Adapter in the Device Manager section. It didn't fix my problem. I also used HP Support Assistant's HP Battery Check diagnostic tool. It says my "battery is functioning correctly, but the AC adapter is not attached. To completely test your battery, please attache the AC Adapter." The strange thing is, my AC adapter is plugged in, but the computer thinks it is not attached. So it is not recognizing my AC adapter when the battery is in. But does recognize and use the AC adapter when the battery is removed.  Does anyone have any recommendations for a fix? Thank you!

Hello there,

Let me try to resume the situation clearly enough.

Product : Toshiba Satellite A110-149

Works fine on AC adapter (just a resume from standby issue but that's because of Gentoo Linux, this used to work under Windows XP)

Original battery was dead. Not only didn't it charge but with both this battery and the AC adapter absolutly nothing happened, not a single LED on. No need to mention I couldn't turn the comp on.

Bought a new battery at AboutBatteries.com
- Replace: PA3465U-1BRS | 10.8V | 6600mAh (71Wh)

With this new battery in and the AC adapter plugged I have the power green led and the orange charging led on. But even after 8 hours and computer off the battery hasn't charged.
If I try to turn the comp on with this new battery in and the AC adapter plugged in it starts running but after a while it shuts down automatically, not matter wether I boot or enter BIOS.

BIOS is Phoenix v1.50 and I reset settings to default.
By the way, downloaded the last OS independent 1.70-WIN (bios-20090121162419.zip) but is there a way to update it without Windows?

I've tried to unplugged everything and press the power button several times (last try i kept pressing for more than 2 minutes for what that matters)

I've clean the contacts with alcohol.

Could this be because of a fuse or capacitor I could replace myself or something?

Any help would be appreciate.

Regards,
Charly

Answer:Satellite A110 Battery won't charge & won't run if battery is plugged in

Hi

I?m not quite sure what happened to the notebook but first of all you should know that notebook should power up and should run properly if the AC adaptor is connected.
The battery isn?t necessary in order to power up the unit if the AC adaptor provide the power to the notebook.

So if ONLY the battery would be affected, the unit should still run at mains.

Therefore I think its an serious hardware issue? for example motherboard problem.

Answer:Z500 battery backup too low

hi mayank12345,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

You can try installing Passmark's BatteryMon to check the battery capacity and discharge
The battery for z500 has a capacity of 48000mWh if your battery capacity is nowhere near that then battery needs to be replaced.

It is also possible that your battery discharge rate is high due to background apps and process. Try to Check the discharge rate with in the same scenario (watching movie and connecting to the net.)

You can try to  perform a clean boot and check if the Discharge rate changes.

Hope this helps,
Cheers!!

Question: Z500 Battery Life

I recently purchased Z500. Most of the time I play games on it as it quite good for gaming. The problem is that it has two different graphics processors. Sometimes - seemingly at random - the laptop will not start unless it's plugged in. It doesn't matter how long the laptop has not been plugged in, or how charged the battery is. When this happens and I then plug it in to start up, the battery always is at least half if not completely full. Once started, usually I can unplug it and run off battery and it'll be okay. It's as if the computer is confused on start up and thinks the battery is empty when it's not! I have already upgraded to the new battery firmware, and I have done a battery configuration, but I still have this problem. It doesn't matter what power management mode I'm in, whether through the Lenovo or the Windows utility. It's very frustrating as I do need to use this laptop occassionally without having access to A/C power, but it is very unreliable despite it being pretty much brand new. Please help! Cheers

Answer:z500 funky battery

Happened again just now - it seems the longer it's unplugged, the less likely it will start on battery... but I plugged it in, and it says 54%. Definitely not dead. Someone's just not reading the battery correctly.

I've just changed my battery setting last week to optimize them, and at first the level kept at 60% as i thought it should be since i always keep the laptop with the plug, but after two days it lowered keeping at 59%, and today it lowered again staying at 58%, anyone knows why?   Thanks

Hi All, I bought Z500 last week and I am facing problem with the battery life. I charged the laptop for 12 hr for the first time. The battery discharges within 2 hr everytime. I just browse internet or watch movies and the battery life is far below the expectation. There are two power plans - Balanced and Power saver and I do not see any difference in either. I need assistance to find out what is wrong with my laptop battery. Thanks in advance. Regards,Adarsh

Answer:Z500 - Battery life below 2 hours!

I have a similar problem with my Windows 8 P500, which I bought 2 months ago. The battery used to go well below 40% before Windows gave me the "low battery" message. But within the last week or so, it's going to sleep without warning at about 40%. When I plug in the laptop and awaken it, Windows says that the battery is 6%. I've mostly had the battery set at "maximum battery health", which is the setting that doesn't let you charge above 60%. My problem seems to occur whether I'm using the battery health option or not.

Hi,As you know the Lenovo  Z500 notebook has a built-in battery. And I work on it for extended periods of time.My question is : Which better for the battery : to use it with the AC Power or simply by Charging/Discharging .---I read some articles that say that the z500 system cut the energy from the battery when it is fully charged  but i am not sure about that.So which better ?

Answer:Battery life Lenovo z500

For battery related issues it is handled by the program Energy Management. If you want your battery to have a long life set it to xxxxx mode while being plugged to ac. This will charge the battery to 60% only. If you want the battery to be charge to maximum for mobile situation later on you can set it to xxxx mode while it is still plugged into ac. So in both situation you have the unit plugged to ac. Note: Refer to the modes indicated in the program to replace the xxxx's in the statements.

Answer:Z500 Battery life drops

hi roeibi,

There are findings that some of these systems (including your model - Z500) contain a function which can electrically disconnect the battery and a battery firmware fix was released to correct it.

See this article:
Ideapad Z400 or Z500 battery will not charge - plugged in not charging

I recommend you apply the fix ASAP and observe the battery status.

Hi, I recently upgraded to windows 10 and my battery (on the Lenovo Z500 not touchscreen) doesn't function. Windows just says 'Plugged in, but not charging'. This meant that if I unplugged it, it would switch off. I tried downloading a driver, but it just said it's not compatible with my system. I downgraded back to windows 8.1 and it's working fine again. Anything anyone could do to help me out with with problem?

Answer:Battery problems (Z500) with windows 10

what level was the battery on? because by default, if the battery is nearly full, battery software prevents it from being charged, since topping up and discharging and topping up again is bad for battery life. hence, when the battery is about 95-99% full, it won't charged when plugged in. but when you unplug the laptop and let it discharge a bit, it'll charge again.

Hi good morning, Install BatteryBar because i noticed that the battery discharged very quickly (even if i low down the intensity of the screen). There is a lost of more than -10 000mw. Is that normal?I just read that  in order to protect the use of the battery, it is charged to 60% only. But is 60% or between 60 and 65%? I say that my battery is still charging after  60%. Thank you very much for the answers, Greeting

Hi I have a lenovo ideapad z500 that I've fitted a new battery in as it had not been charging the old one for some time , It now won't charge the new battery I've tried updating the firmware and it won't allow that now saying "this system is not suitable or prepared for firmware updates" this only occurred after having updated the bios as it allowed me to use the firmware tool before ( incidentally it never updated the firmware then either) . I'm at the end of my tether with all the workarounds this seems to be a seriously bad laptop with loads of issues with windows 8 & 8.1 which it comes packaged with !!! Please if anyone has an actual fix which works I'd be much obliged , really wasn't happy with the screen brightness issue either this machine needs to be recalled due to the amount of silly issues it "just" seems to develop. waiting by the keyboard for the first knee jerk fix also it should be known I've a degree In I.T. and have repaired/refurbed 30k plus units for acer/sony/emachines/gateway/lenovo/toshiba and so on, so no turn it off then on again pls I may have to laugh

Hi, I have read many people have similar issues for other models other than my Thinkpad x240 20AL but removing the battery won't solve my problem. It is plugged in, it says plugged in but battery is not charging (none of the two batteries this laptop has). I have gone to Driver Manager and uninstalled the 3 Microsoft drivers under battery section. After restarting or scanning for new hardware these drivers appear again and the problem is not solved. I have restarted de computer. Problem not solved I have removed the batter and put it back. Problem not solved. After one night, I switched on the laptop and one of the battery has charged. Right now it says plugged in, charging and it shows already 100% although it keeps charging. The other battery still shows 98% not charging.. I believe this must be a software issue, some power management that prevents the laptop from charging the battery. But where is that software and how to configure it or remove it? I have looked for Lenovo Power Management and similar and it is not installed on my laptop. Anybody knows what I am talking about?

For a few months now, at some point my battery would indicate nn% (plugged in, not charging) and would maintain that charge as long as it was plugged in. Running on the battery, the charge would eventually diminish and in order to get the battery to charge again, I have gone through to process of uninstalling the ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery in Device Manager. Usually within 24 hours, things would revert back to plugged in, not charging. However, that is no longer remedying the problem. (When this was an issue the indicator light next to where the AC Adaptor plugs in would flash blue. Also, I upgraded from Win 8.1 to 10 a few weeks ago, but this issue has been occurring for a few months now). Now the battery reads 2% (plugged in, not charging) and when I use the HP Support Assistant to check the battery, I get the message ?HP Battery Check was unable to access the battery?. I have performed a hard reset, reset the BIOS, and updated the BIOS, all to no avail. If I unplug the adaptor, the computer shuts off. Any suggestions for additional fixes? I have seen one additional suggestion to do a system recovery but I have not yet made a recovery disk for win 10 (I do have one for the win 8.1), and would it make any difference anyway since the plugged in, not charging problem was occurring under win 8.1?

I bought a brand new charger for my Z500 and it arrived yesterday at midday. I plugged it into the laptop. Laptop was turned off. The amber charging light turned on on the front of the laptop (where the mouse/touchpad is).The amber charging light on the actual charger itself was also on.Everything was fine. The laptop began to charge. Yippee! New charger finally charging my laptop. By around 5pm, the laptop suddenly stopped charging. The battery icon on the computer display showed no charging, the charging light on the front of the laptop turned white (as it does when there is no AC supply into the laptop) but the amber charging light on the charger itself was still on - and it still does turn on whenever the charger is plugged into any mains socket in the house. It doesn't look like the charger itself is not working but it does seem as if the battery is not charging. This is what I have already tried: downloading the battery firmware update from here http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-and-U-series-Laptops/Ideapad-Z400-or-Z500-battery-will-not-cha... I have tried removing, repairing, and modifying (i.e. all 3 options) multiple times and restarting and completely shutting down the computer and turning it back etc but that does not work at all. Trust me. I have tried it so many times. The battery was stuck at 7% with the charger plugged in. So, the laptop was still being powered by the charger but just not being charged.  Spoiler (Highlight to read)
If the above steps doesn't work, you need to call lenovo on how to go about replacing the battery.

Hi, I have this brand new z500 and it's been useless couple of months, today I take it back in use and of course plug in charger. After about half an hour I'll start the computer and battery icon says 28% and charging, usually icon is animated but now nothing happens. Also when I unplug power cord, computer shuts down immediately, same like if  you remove battery. Could the battery has been died during the time computer was unused? Is there any way to bring it back to life, or do I have to send this machine to warranty service?

Answer:Lenovo Z500 Disable battery charge

There is a setting in lenovo energy management which limits the battery charge limt to 60% and there after stop charging tilll battery level falls down to around 55%. This is the battery protection mode(In some laptop it is optimize for battery life or similar). Just open energy management and go to battery settings by clicking the icon. Then select the mode and voila!!

Can we try performing this

Unplug the AC adapter, Turn the system on to the point like what you describe "Lights on but nothing on the screen"
While on that state HOLD the power button down for 15 to 20 Seconds.

See if that works, If not take note for any changes.

Hi CuriousFox ,

Greetings.

To isolate fastest is to have another battery to use or charging the original battery on a known working compatible laptop.
The power checkout guide of the hardware machine manual provides steps to check battery charging integrity (example form Z510 manual page 21) .

You can also try plugging the laptop but not turning it on for 1-2 hours checking if there would be changes with the battery indicator LED.

Would it be the same using similar energy manager and operating system that came originally with the machine?
How is the battery health and battery report?

Update us how it goes.

I have two Lenovo Y40-70 computers that I purchased within a couple weeks of each other.  They came with Windows 8.1 but I upgraded to Windows 10. A few months ago, I noticed that my computer battery meter was reading 100% for an hour.  I continued to work unplugged until the battery died while still reading 100%.  I recharged and the battery again read 100% for more than a couple hours, then died.  So the battery lifetime is as good as always, but the reading is not right.  When I reboot, it still reads 100%. Strangely, the second system, whcih I had not used for a while, was OK, but a few days later, it started doing the same thing (though it was reading 87%, the charge when the computer last worked right.  I suscpect that this happened after a critical update, which the second system went through later. Recently, I downloaded from the Lenovo website the newer power management software on both computers, and it did not help. Then I noticed the Battery recall so downloaded the "Lenovo Battery Utility 2015" to see if my system was afffected by the problem.  When I run the utility, I get the mssage "No Battery Detect."  So it would appear that there may be an issue with the software detecting the batter. Since I can't know the state of the battery (it appears to not want to recharge until it's empty, I gues because it thinks it's 100% charged), I cannot count on this computer when it's not plugged in. Now I ... Welcome to the community,

The fact that the laptop has an internal battery limits a bit the troubleshooting I can provide.

Are you able to get a hold of another power cable to try completely rule out that it might be the charger?

If not then realistically the only thing I could recommend is to get in touch with support and to arrange a repair.

Can you try to:
1. Open Lenovo Energy Management on the system notification area and set battery status to "Optimized Battery Health"

2. Use the computer just with the battery and drain it up to 10% or until the system goes to sleep/hibernate. When the unit turns off or reaches 10% battery life, plug the AC adapter and observe the battery status (the charge should now be halted at 60%).

hi bigboy61,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

The battery is covered by tge base warranty for 1 year from the date of purchase.

You can call Lenovo Technical Support about the battery replacement
I believe since the Battery is inside the System, You will be requested to send your computer to a Lenovo Depot.

Have you tried Using Batterymon free

Can you check what is your Discharge rate,
It might be possible that the background apps and services are eating to much energy.

i got an ideapad z500 a couple of days ago, and the laptop is giving me around 1.5 - 2 hours of battery backup after a full 100% charge..the laptop is also overheating and gets really hot around the touchpad and under the keyboard..i called up customer care, and they checked it via some remote access software, but didn't give me any solution other than a battery gauge reset and dust removal, both of which i had already done. they also gave me an address and a phone no. of a service centre , but no one answers the phone there.. also, the dealer told me this laptop was covered with a 2 year warranty, first year on site and also a 2 year adp, but the customer support guy said that the latop only had 1 year carry in warranty and no adp..wth is this???

Answer:ideapad z500 overheating and giving 1.5 hours of battery backup

hi nipun1989,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Overheating issues are commonly caused by dirty / faulty fan or a dried out thermal paste. If you get 80-90C+ @ approximately 25C-30C room temperature and you're on normal usage (i.e. browsing the web, watching video, opening document files, etc.), then you may need to send the unit for service to correct the overheating issue.

As for the ADP (Accidental Damage Protection) warranty, did you purchase this directly from lenovo? Normally, a unit will have an OEM warranty for 1yr. If you:

1. Purchase the ADP warranty from lenovo, you will need to scan a copy of your proof of purchase and contact lenovo support on how to go about updating your warranty

2. Purchase the ADP warranty from the retailer (i.e. bestbuy, etc.), this warranty will kick-in after the OEM warranty expires and you will need to take the unit to the retailer if you get any problems on the unit.

Hope this helps

Hello Lenovo Forums,      It's really frustrating for me to be here and posting a problem exactly a week after I bought my laptop. So I got this thing last week and about 3 days ago it started hesitating to charge. I'm sure it was not a hardware issue because at startup it charges but after a while it stops.      I got into a conclusion that it was probably some kind of service that stops it from charging. So I uninstalled the Energy Management App but it didn't work so I just reinstalled it back. I also tried to uninstall the "Microsoft acpi-compliant control method battery" like what most people recommend but it just reinstalls and doesn't work at all. I tried disabling it but it removes the battery icon from the taskbar. I also tried removing and reinstalling the battery a couple of times which resulted into nothing.      But just today when I booted up the laptop the Lenovo Management Software shown a message saying that my battery is not genuine and they will hesitate to charge it.      I was like "W**? I just got this thing last week and touched nothing and now you're telling me my battery is not genuine?" So looked at the battery and it was LEGIT with all the legit lenovo branding and everything.      Can anybody help me fix this? Thank you

Hi,
I am writing this as I have hopelessly tried all methods found online without success.
I have an XPS 15 bought in France. I move to Singapore and my original DELL AC adapter was spoiled. So I went to the nearest store and bought a third party adapter. Everything works out fine for a while... Now, my laptop won't charge anymore (stuck at 90%).
My laptop only turn on if it is plugged under ac adapter. When I unplug the ac adapter, my laptop turn off.
When I turn on my laptop it says "this battery charging is temporarily disabled, press F2 for entering BIOS Menu". In BIOS, under battery health it is said "this battery is temporarily disabled, please turn off the computer and try again when the unit is back to operational temperature" I have this problem systematically, my laptop is not heated.
I even bring it to a repair shop here in Singapore; but they do not even have the parts to test.
Please help.
I am willing to buy a new battery or new adapter, but I am not even sure if that's the problem.

Thank you

I have a Dell inspiron 15 M5010 and i recently bought a new battery. It's not a Dell battery but a Ninja Battery. As i started charging it i noticed it doesn't charge. I thought it was a defective battery so the company sent me a new one. It didn't make a difference.
Is it my AC Adapter? or because i need a Dell battery? I tried everything except update the BIOS because it needs at least 10% battery to run. Sadly i have 5%. Please help.

Hi there! I just recieved my refurb ideapad z500 and not only was the battery not working ,but it has a wierd small white/bright spot on the screen. Will waranty replace it? Also what is it? Thanks!     I picked up my laptop last Friday from UPS. As soon as I got arround to opening it, I noticed that it would no power on without being pluggen in. That is strange because all my previous laptops had at least enough charge to power on, and it said it had 34%(when I powered it on with the power cord). That was the first strange thing. Then, after about a couple hours, I checked to see if it had charged anymore and it still said ?Plugged in, charging 34%?. I left it all night. The next morning, I went to see if it had moved. It hadnt. Then I thought maybe it was just saying that so I unplugged it. It still wouldn?t come on without the power cord. Then on Sunday it finally told me ?Plugged in, Not charging 34%. Somethings wrong with it. Then, I noticed a strange white spot on the right side of the display. It was really annoying me so I called in and added that to the repair list. I just Googled it and it seems like a problem with some lenovo laptops. I also talked to my friend (who knows a lot about computers) and he said it was something behind the display. Will they fix these issues since it was supposedly "inspected" and was as good as new. Thanks!

Hello guys, and mods, im just wondering if using my laptop plugged-in without the battery won't do any harm?Im using my laptop heavily and Im thinking that it is not good for the battery to be used frequently like, charging the battery about 2-3 times a day. That's why I emoved the battery instead and keep it on a safe place. Is there anything bad about what Im doing? Or is it normal?

I bought a new battery for my laptop because the original one had lost endurance, it would last only about 45 minutes, anyway. So I put the new battery in and the computer sometimes doesn't recognize it, sometimes it does but most of the time it says : Plugged in but not charging.

I'm not too sure what to do, I made sure to buy the exact same battery with the same model #, etc.

Answer:NEW battery plugged in but not charging

1. Shut Down the laptop.
2. Press the power button then tap the F2 key until a blue screen appears.
3.On the left sided menu arrow down to Battery Info.
What does it show ?

I have been faced with quite a frustrating computer/ battery problem. You see my computer does not turn on, that is unless it is plugged in with my charger in which case it will it will turn on. However, when I click on the bottom right-hand corner battery symbol it will provide me with the statement saying, " Plugged in not charging". On top of this, I did check the battery status on my computer, it provided me with the information that my computer battery is, "Ok", however, needs charging. This leads me to wonder is this a battery problem or an AC Adapter problem.

I have a Inspiron 17R SE-7720.  The battery is no longer charging, even when it is plugged in with the AC adapter that came with the laptop.  The blue light on the plug is on when the adapter is plugged in.  Unfortunately the battery is now completely dead, so I am no longer able to turn the laptop on.  Before the battery died, I checked the BIOS and noted that it was not registering the AC adapter.  Not sure where to go next with this issue.  Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

One day a wake up to find that it doesnt turn on so i plug n the charger and it turns on and says consider replacing the battery soon but after a few minutes i realize it says plugged in but not charging at 0% (and it wasnt at 0% when i turned it off) When I try to run a battery test in HP support assistant it keeps saying status unknown (so how can it tell that I need a new battery but cant detect it which is why i think its a glitch) and that i should remove and then re insert the battery but still nothing changes and it it telling me that I have the updated version. I've tried uninstalling the battery drivers multiple times after which i was notified that a drive was missing and had to reset my laptop (for the second time the frist being after windows 10 caused a drive to "go missing") and still nothing.I am desperate please help me

Acer laptop
2 months old

I did the followings but did not fix it :

Unplugged the machine
Removed the battery
Plugged everything back in ( except the battery ) and loaded the machine
Turned off the machine
Put the battery back in.

This is the 2nd time. Fisrt time I fixed that by performing the above steps. Not this time.
Google search suggests faulty adaptor, as well as contacting Acer while still in warranty.

After googling, I came across this suggestion :
Device Manager > expand Battery > Right click at Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery > uninstall > Action button > Scan for hardware changes

That did not solve the issue either.

Is there anything else I can do without calling Acer ?

Answer:96% Battery plugged in but not charging

Call Acer. You have a hardware problem.

I'm having this issue where the battery is not charging, and/or the laptop is not recognizing the battery properly. I will just outline the problem and what I have done.  A) Received a brand new assumingly aftermarket replacement battery. 1 - It went through a charge cycle without much problem2 - It stopped charging randomly, to which by experimentation the fix was simply restarting the computer (and removing the battery while the computer was shut down, and replacing it before restarting). It would begin to charge again after.3 - Sometimes, on battery power, the monitor screen would simply turn illuminated black or flicker. During this time, all computer functions still worked and I was able to shut the computer down using my memory and the proper keystrokes. Starting it back up was the (temporary) cure, even without introducing AC Power. 4 - This continued regularly having to reset the computer and the battery to keep it charging. A few days later, while showing some nominal amount of charge (20%?) the computer just shut off instantaneously  With this, I assumed there must be something wrong with the battery so I contacted the people who sent it and they agreed, although I was also asking if it could be anything other than the battery, because to me it didn't feel like the problem was the battery as, once I got the battery charged fully, it worked great as far as holding the charge.  B) I received a second brand new b... I gather this is not a genuine HP battery? Until you try a known good Genuine Battery it is hard to know what the problem would be. You should not have to try driver reinstalls and such. A good battery on a good system just works. Possibilites are bad battery and bad motherboard. Period.

HP pav. 13 x360. Windows 10 Had the plugged in not charging error with a CMOS error at boot up and then it would take 5min to boot and then it would run fine. Got it in under warranty and they changed the battery out. 4 months later the error has occurred again. As before I tried all the basic troubleshooting from reinstalling/updating drivers to flashing the BIOS to reinstalling windows and it still would not charge. Took it apart this time as it is out of warranty, pulled the battery, cleaned out all the connectors and am currently checking for possible short sites, but I rebooted the laptop without the batter and still got the CMOS error but it booted immediately. I am going to do more troubleshooting, but I do not know what this CMOS error is if the battery is out of the machine. What am I missing? Thanks in advance. Please help. Wife is not happy without laptop.

Answer:plugged in not charging with new battery

> Got it in under warranty and they changed the battery out. Which battery did HP replace? A "CMOS error" means that the (small) battery on the motherboard has failed to keep "trickling" enough power to the CMOS chip to enable the CMOS to retain its settings.  This battery is distinct from the "main" removable battery that fits into the laptop. Some computers have "power" settings to maximize battery-life.  This may include not automatically charging the battery up to 100%, if you usually use the computer on AC power.  So, this may trigger the "plugged-in-not-charging" message, but it does increase the life of the battery. > rebooted without the battery, and still got the CMOS error Definitely, it's the "small" battery on the motherboard that is not working.Contact HP, to see if they will admit that they changed the "wrong" battery.

Please don't move this! This is a unique question about a legitimate problem. The last thread I created got moved into someone else's thread dealing with a different issue and I didn't appreciate that because I came here to get support for this unique issue. Thanks! Hello Lenovo community!I'm having an issue on my laptop that arose when I installed Windows 8 alongside Windows 7 on a separate partition, and then installed Lenovo's Energy Management software from my windows 7 installation on to that windows 8 install, thinking it would work. I realized later there are compatibility issues with it.As soon as I did this, I am noticing a significant FPS/frame rate reduction in games and other GPU-intensive apps (around 19-20 fps) while the laptop is plugged IN on AC power but surprisingly things run buttery smooth when I don't have the charger plugged in (70+ fps). Uninstalling the software did not fix it. And the weirdest thing is that when I booted back into my Windows 7 install, the problem persisted there too! It's as if this somehow affected the hardware of my laptop.I reformatted my hard drive and installed Winows 8 alone, and installed a newer, updated version of Lenovo's Energy Management software which was designed for Windows 8. It has some weird bugs still which they need to fix such as not being able to optimize the settings for best battery health, which holds the laptop's charge at 50%. I really like this feature and hope it's ... Read more

I ran the battery test, result: "weak (30) The battery is functioning correctly, but due to normal aging of the battery, the battery life between charges is now significantly shorter than when it was new." So it seems the battery isn't defective, even though it's getting old. I hesitate to run the battery calibration because appaently that will fully discharge the battery, and maybe it will never re-charge. I upgraded to Win10 a few days before this happened; don't know whether that might have contributed to this problem. What's going on here and how can I fix it?

HiI had bought this HP Model 11-N010TU Processor Brand Intel Processor Type Quad Core Processor Model N3520 Processor Speed (GHz) 2.16 Processor Max Speed (GHz) 2.42 Installed RAM 8GB RAM Type DDR3 on Dec-2014. The battery has been working great until last week where it starts giving plugged in, not charging with 0% remaining. I had tried to plug in directly to different wall socket but yielding same results. Troubleshooting carried out:1. I had run HP Battery check on HP Support Assistant and it gave healthy battery status. 2. So the next step is I went to a local shop to try and plug in and try with brand new power supply unit suggested by the technician. The results were the same with plugged in not charging error message. 3. I had tried the extensive hardware check by pressing Esc, f2 prior booting into windows and it gave all good results. 4. I had open up the cover dismantle the battery socket to the motherboard and plug that in again by hoping it could reset the battery but it doesn't help. Any suggestions will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Ok, before I start, I'm POSITIVE this is not a hardware issue, because when I'm in Ubuntu, it doesn't happen.

Every 10 seconds or so, Windows will think my charger is unplugged. Then, it will proceed to switch back and fourth between plugged in and not, forcing my laptop to switch between power modes. (I'm guessing this is stress on the CPU and I do not want it to have to do that all the time)

It's getting annoying having to deal with my laptop getting hot and such because of the switching power modes.

Any ideas..?

Answer:Plugged in, but running off battery..

I presume you dual boot? Are you using the battery charger in the same socket as you do when you are booted to Ubuntu?
