I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, I want to know whether Edge Scrolling using the touch pad mouse on Lenovo Z500 Touch is possible.  When I try to adjust the settings on my ELAN Pointing Device options, I see Edge Swipe, but not Edge Scrolling.  I just bought this laptop, but I made sure that I do have the latest drivers for my touch pad.  Moreover, I think this feature was meant to be included in the software because the registry options and demonstration videos suggest Edge Scrolling is possible under this hardware and software.  So what gives? I strongly dislike having to use two fingers to scroll on my touch pad instead of being able to use the edges.  This is a pretty basic feature on most laptops these days, and I used to use it daily on my previous Lenovo laptop.  If I can't have it on this new computer, I will probably return it.  I appreciate any help in resolving this.

Answer:IdeaPad Z500 Edge Scrolling

Hi ab56v2,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that the Edge scrolling feature is not working in the Touchpad, re-installing the Touchpad driver should display the Edge Scrolling feature in Z500 Laptop as per the image below:

Here is the link to download the Touchpad driver for the computer:

Touchpad Driver for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit)
Touchpad Driver for Microsoft Windows 8 (64-bit)

Hope this helps!!!

Do post us back if the issue still persists.

Hi guys I'm an engineering student out to buy one of these computers. The problem is the more I research the more unsure I get. I've never owned aLenovo machine before so I thought i would ask you guys. The Yoga is the 5i, 8RAM, 265GB, ca $300 more than the S430The S430 is the 7i, 8RAM, 500GB.It has to be able to run all of the math programming and chem software, and do it fora few years. But it will also be my main computer and I would like something that is abit consumption friendly. I was also really set on an ultrabook before I saw the S430 asI am really lazy and already have to lugg around a bunch of material.I'm kinda confused as both would meet my needs but I just don't have the experiencewith these machines to make this choice. Thanks for your time!

Answer:Ideapad Yoga or Thinkpad Edge S430

Processor: Yoga uses the U series low voltage and lower speed processors. S430 uses full speed and full voltage processors. Advantage: S430
Graphics: Yoga has integrated graphics; S430 has slightly faster integrated graphics or 620M. Advantage S430.
Connectivity: Yoga has 1 USB 2.0, 1 USB 3.0, HDMI and Card reader; i7 S430 has Thunderbolt, 2 USB 3.0 ports, DisplayPort, miniHDMI, wired ethernet, and card reader. Advantage S430 (Thunderbolt & Display Port are useful).
Keyboard: Yoga has a good keyboard; S430 has trackpoint. Advantage: S430 (unless you don't use trackpoint).
Operating System: Yoga has Win 8; S430 has Win 7. Advantage: Yoga (since you could downgrade to Win 7 if you purchase Win 8 Pro). You should check to see if your school supports Win8.
Display: Yoga has a glossy 1600x900 IPS screen with multitouch; S430 has either 1366x768 glossy screen or 1600x900 non-glossy screen. Advantage: Yoga. (Touch is useful if you run Win8 and IPS and glossy is better for content consumption.)
RAM: Yoga maxes out at 8GB; S430 has 2 DIMM Slots and can be upgraded to 16GB. Advantage: S430.
Mass storage: Yoga has a SSD; S430 has a HDD. Advantage: Yoga (but you could upgrade S430 to SSD after purchase).
Optical Drive: Yoga none; S430 has one. Advantage: S430. (You'll probably be putting lots of engineering software on this thing, so you'll need an optical drive.)
Weight: Yoga 1.54kg; S430 1.8kg. Advantage: Yoga.
Battery: Yoga up to 8hrs; S430 up to 6hrs. Advantage: Yoga.

I just recently got the Ideapad Z500 for my birthday and I loved it but there is one thing that is doing my head in and I wonder if there is a way to stop it or fix it. Basically the "i" key on my keyboard is super sensitive and I don't need to push it down, just slightly touching it types an "i" and means I keep accidentally typing an "i" just because I accidentally touched it. Does anyone have the same problem and do you know if there is a way of fixing it?!

Answer:I key on Ideapad z500

should also mention I don't know if this is a feature of the laptop considering the "i" is a commonly used key??

Answer:ideapad z500

hi Safi2905,

Welcome to the Forums.

You might want to follow this thread and apply this battery firmware update to address the battery concerns. As for the fan kicking in at power up, this is most likely a thermal design to keep the laptop running cool - unless you're hearing rattling / grinding noise that might indicate a faulty fan, otherwise, this is normal.

Hi, I have an IdeaPad z500. I have been facing issues with the wireless connectivity. In my room, at the same place, sometimes I get full bars and the internet works fine. But on some days it shows just 1 bar and the internet doesn't work. This is random behavior.  I checked with the Intel Driver update, the wireless driver is updated. It's Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 2230.

Hello!I bought my new Lenovo Ideapad Z500 only two weeks ago and since than it works fine, however yesterday it produced a very strange error. When I turn on my laptop it stops when the Lenovo logo shows up and freezes. The worst problem is that, it doesn't happen every time I turn it on, so when I bruoght it back to the shop, it was working fine again, and after I arrived home, it did the same error. It wasn't only a one time experience, I've tried it at least ten times, and it stopped on the Lenovo logo over and over again. I send it back to the service, however, I am curious whether I'm the only one facing with this weird issue or not. Thank you for your time!Best regards to all!

Hi all, I have an issue with my Lenovo Z500 touch. The USB 3.0 port on the left is not working. When I attach an external HDD, the HDD light is on, so it is powered, it is not seen by my pc.I have looked in the Device Manager and there's an error in the USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller. It says that the device cannot start. Tried to udate the driver, but it says that the driver is up to date. I have Windows 8.1. The other 2 USB 2.0 ports work fine. Any idea? Could be a driver problem? Here is the event in the Device manager: Device PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E31&SUBSYS_397717AA&REV_04\3&11583659&0&A0 had a problem starting.Driver Name: usbxhci.inf Thank you in advance. Michele

Hi,

My one month old z500 fails to boot and gives an error message saying "DEFAULT BOOT DEVICE MISSING OR BOOT FAILED."

This happened after i had to force my pc to shut down by pressing and holding the power button because it hadn't been responding for a while and I was only browsing on the web. When I attempted to restart it I encountered that error message

I suspect it's a hdd related problem because when I enter BIOS it says "not detected" in front of "Hard Disk" caption. That means hard disk is not recognized by BIOS. I tried one key recovery but it's useles cause nothing happens when I press okr button.

What do you think this is caused by and what should be done to recover my pc.

Thanks in advance...  Sorry for bad English.

Hi.I bought the Lenovo Ideapad Z500 and I'm trying to boot from a USB drive in order to install Windows on it.When I start the boot menu I only see the hard-drive, the DVD and the network.I tried to set both UEFI mode and Legacy mode in BIOS but the USB stick does not appear in the menu when I boot.I put the image of windows with Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool which formats the stick in NTFS mode.I have the latest BIOS v1.21 and I tried with 2 different USB sticks: one 16GB USB 2.0 Corsair and with a 32GB USB 3.0 ADATA both on USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports on the notebook.I really haven't seen anything like this in my entire career. I even downloaded the file efi\boot\BOOTX64.efi and replaced the one that Windows come with on the specified folder on the USB stick ....Why is so difficult to choose the USB boot drive on the newer notebooks?Does someone have a clue how can I boot from USB?Thanks in advance!  Bupitz

Answer:USB boot for Ideapad Z500

Hi,

I don't think I can be of much help, but a couple of things to try:  if your USB flash drive is formatted NTFS, it will only boot in legacy mode if it is bootable at all.  One thing you might try is to set the partition active if it isn't already.

If you want to boot in UEFI mode, format the flash drive with a single FAT32 partition.  Copy the contents of your install DVD to the flash drive.  If you're using an ISO copy the contents of the iso using a tool like 7zip.  UEFI bootabiliyt doesn't require using a special tool to prep the drive.  Just format it and copy the install medium to it.

Win7 requires CSM support in bios to boot successfully in UEFI mode.  That may always be enabled in UEFI mode or it may be a separate option in BIOS.

Hi abodialansi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

This configuration with the RAM is OK

Based on the Datasheet of your model This can go to 8GB / 16GB
Ive highlighted the option you prefer with the RAM

About the Discrete NVIDIA GPU, Itis soldered to the Mainboard thus not letting any upgrade to it.
Upgrading the board means upgrading the whole Motherboard, which might not be preferred since it may only give you a minimal upgrade in terms of performance.

Hope this info helped

Hi, I am in the market for a new laptop and have narrowed my choices to the Sony Vaio S here http://bit.ly/TAPlYC with Windows 8 Pro and 1 year of support as perhaps the only upgrades and the IdeaPad z500s here http://lnv.gy/WtWizp . I am upset that Lenovo does not offer the 7200 rpm option for the hard drive nor a higher screen resoltion. I personally think the 1920 x 1080 on the Viao S is a bit too high, but the 1366x768 of the z500 is way way way too low in my opinion. I want to love lenovo because the community seems great, but the lack of upgrade options is troubling.  Also, a more general question: I am a web developer that does php/html/css editing/developing using a text editor (not heavy ones like Dreamweaver), watches netflix and listens to things like Spotify. Are the HD 4000 Graphics good enough for me? I know RAM is helpful here, but I like to buy my own RAM because it's fun hunting for it (thats why I dont need an 8GB lenovo option to buy) Any thoughts/advice? Thanks, James

Answer:IdeaPad Z500 - low specs?

hi James,

Welcome to the Lenovo Community.

If you're leaning to the Lenovo Z500, the built-in HD 4000 graphics will be good enough for any php/html programming (especially if you use editors) as this embedded graphics card is on par with the AMD Radeon HD 7520G (based on 3D benchmark).

The screen size though is something that can't be customized but the HDD, you can. If you want fast boot-up,and response time pf your programs you might wanna consider switching to SSD as it's 2-3 times faster than a regular HDD and you can get an enclosure to convert your HDD as an external drive or make your system a hyrid drive (SSD as primary, HDD as secondary, you will need this:

Answer:Z500 ideapad RAM upgrade

hi Rajesh,

Welcome to the Forums.

From page 26 of the HMM, the Z500 can take up to:

Standard  Memory ? DDR3-1600/1333MHz SODIMM × 2 (max 16 GB)

A 12GB (8GB+4GB) upgrade is also feasible but if the machine came with 4GB (2GBx2), I would go for an 8GB(4GBx2) or 16GB (8GBx2) depending on your needs and workload.

Hi

I got a 2nd hand Lenovo Ideapad 100S. It came with Win10 installed but had someone elses profile and data.
(I am not sure if it originally had Win8.1 when it was shipped, there is no rollback option anymore)

My preference is to wipe the current installation completely by downloading Win10 and installing a clean copy off USB.

I also usually prefer to delete all partitions, including recovery because future reinstallations can be done from scratch via USB. (I don't need the option of reinstalling from recovery partitions , the extra space is more important)

I see a warning in the user guide however .....
"Do not delete or modify the Recovery Partition on a WIMBoot-enabled computer. If the Recovery Partition is deleted or modified, you may not be able to restore Windows to the factory status. For computer models on which WIMBoot is enabled, deleting the Recovery Partition may cause Windows to fail to start. How can I determine whether the Windows running on my computer is WIMBoot enabled? WIMBoot technology is normally enabled on copies of Windows 10 Update running on SSD (or eMMC) -only computer models."

What is the best way to do this?

Answer:Ideapad 100s - Win10 clean installation on ideapad...

 Hi larrens ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

It's a good thing you posted first before proceeding with any clean installation.
Not sure what the Machine Number is to verify the details and specifications of your system.

But if you have a pc with a Windows Image Boot (or WIMBoot) you may not want to choose a clean installation.
This new deployment of installation is compressing part of a big OS file so that you can have an operating system that can only take small spaces intended for small storages (SSD).

Best option to wipe out previous owners profile is a have a fresh out of the box image is using the Puch button Factory reset (Novo key similar to Item 7 page 1). Simply shutdown the system and use the button to turn on, System Recovery option would provide One key recovery from initial backup to do it.

WIM boot are usually created thru OEM depot authorized by Microsoft . DIY for WIMboot maybe a bit complicated.
Click on underlined links for further review.

Hope this answered your query.

I've always had blue screens periodically with this laptop - had it just over a year now - but they never really bothered me. Until this morning when I woke up and tried to turn it on, after a lengthy loadup screen with the lenovo logo it went straight to a blue screen. As soon as the screen came up the laptop shut off, not giving me time to see what the error code is. When it restarts it tries to boot up system repair then goes to a black screen for ~10 minutes before blue screening and promptly restarting again. This time the restart is like the first time, straight to blue screen, then the repair to blue screen again. It just repeats this process over and over. I'm running windows 8 (not 8.1) and F8ing on the startup screen doesn't work, any help please?

I've recently started experiencing issues with my Ideapad Z500. The warranty has expried, and so i cannot send it off to get repaired. I've replaced the laptop charger, with multiple different ones, all working, and yet it will still not charge. It will not turn on when plugged into the mains. I've attempted to remove the battery, and power through the mains, and yet it will still not power on. I've replaced the internal power jack (one which connects to the motherboard), and yet it will still not charge. There is no visible signs on the motherboard as to scorch marks where it could of shorted out.  From my point of view, everything is as it should be, but the laptop will just not power on at all. Any ideas on what can be done to get this working again?

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Sorry to hear about the charging problem.  From what you have described and tried about the only thing left is to replace the motherboard.  The motherboard may have damage that isn't visible and without the proper testing equipment it would be difficult to locate.

Hello, I just bought a new Lenovo IdeaPad Z500 and it has a 15.6 inch mate display, before this I had a laptop with glossy display, so I see something strange and I don't know if this makes the difference between a mate and a glossy type of display but mine, if i have a one color wallpaper or in places where a single color predominates on a larger surface, I can see some minuscule squares(like the matrix of the display or something) on the entire display, is this a problem with the display? Thank you in advance!

Answer:About IdeaPad Z500 display quality

hi allexif,

Welcome to the Forums.

Your issue might be similar to this thread.

Can you try to download and install Passmark's BurnInTest standard edition and do a burn-in test on your CPU and GPU (2D and 3D tests) for 15mins and observe.

The image of the test should be smooth as the one below::

If you get granules on the image like the one below, there's most likely a GPU rendering issue and you may need to contact lenovo or the vendor to report the issue:

Hope this helps

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that your Z500 Laptop is not charging or turning ON, I suggest you to perform the Flee-Power. Below are the steps to check the issue:

Remove the battery and any other peripheral device connected to the computer.
Hold the power button for 10-15 seconds and then connect only the AC Adapter and try to turn ON the computer.

Do post us back if the issue still persists.

I have a new z500 that I've downgraded to Windows 7 64bit. For the most part I have everything working. I accidentally hit the brightness + (yes, +) and it instantly dimmed the screen to where it is barely viewable. It seems that hitting that one key decreased the brightness to the minimum amount. I've rebooted, looked for a setting in the BIOS, hit the Brightness +/- and can't increase the brightness. It is interesting because the other hot keys work correctly. I've even upped the brightness in the Control Panel, but nothing seems to work. The screen is extremely dim whenever the machine is powered on (including the BIOS), not just in Windows. I tried a lot of intel chipset drivers, the available Intel HD 4000 drivers in Win8 and win7 too, but nothing working. Can someone please help with how to up the brightness?

HI! I have just purchased an Ideapad Z500 3rd Gen i5 laptop around 10 days back and am seriously fed up with the performance. From the very first day, the machine is working slow, the USB ports are giving me problems right since day 1. On top of it, yesterday, when I tried to eject a pen drive, there is a small part which has come out of the laptop alongwith the Pen Drive. I am sure, it has something to do with the USB port. Furthermore, today the keyboard panel has started to pop up slightly. Also, the machine works pretty slow, as compared to the excellent configuration which I had chosen. Someone please help! I need to get this laptop replaced immediately. I wonder if it was my mistake to choose lenovo over other brands. Please please help. The Serial No. of the machine is xxxxxxxxxxx and the model no. is 20202. Expecting a quick response from the Customer care team. Regards, Sunil Rijhwani Cell:xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi, my sons Z500 screen has cracked and I am after a replacement screen. This is the non touch sensitive screen and has a gloss finish. Could anyone tell me if Lenovo used just one screen for this laptop or if they used a couple of different types of screens during manufacture, like some other companies. I know I can remove the old screen to have a look at the specs, but my son is still using the laptop with an external monitor and would prefer me not to take his precious computer apart until I have the new screen. Dear Lenovo community, I would like to change the HDD of my Lenovo z500 with a SSD. Moreover, since I have problem with the OS (win 8.1) I intend to format the PC and reinstall it. My question is: after the substitution of the HDD and the install of the new OS will I still be able to use the hotkeys (pc brightness, volume etc.) of my keyboard or have I to install some additional software or set them in the BIOS? Moreover, have I to install lenovo energy management (to control the battery) and the intel hd graphics drivers? thanks for the attention

Answer:lenovo ideapad z500 hotkey

Hi mardix1982 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Would you still be able to boot to Windows on the original image ?
You may create a recovery image first that can be useful on the SSD change or even clone it after a factory restore (One Key recovery page 23) using the SSD software or other tools.

Since there be no changes on the BIOS , hotkey features under configuration setting should stay enabled.
All other drivers and power management tool such as Lenovo Energy Manager are available from the support site.

You may also order purchasable Windows installer with drivers by calling technical support .

hi Moktik,

Sorry to hear what happened,

The clicking sound you hear is from the actuator,
It tries to re - read or rewrite something on the harddive. while it does that it also shows a sudden drop of read/write speed to "0" shown on your Hd Tune Test.

This is a behavior of a bad disk and it has to be backed up as soon as possible and have the harddrive checked by Lenovo Technical team.

I suggest back up your data first and Call Lenovo Technical Support for assistance.

Works fine when I put the old one back in. Reading the documentation, the 3360m is supported so I don't understand why it's not working. Got the latest BIOS version. Can anyone help? ThanksAndrew

Answer:IdeaPad Z500 CPU upgrade issue

These are the differences between the two processor from Intel's site:Intel vPro? TechnologyIntel Virtualization TechnologyIntel Trusted Execution Technology If they are compatible they should work in your unit. However, since it does not one possible reason I can think of is again Lenovo's restrictions just like in their wifi card. I could be wrong. Try the Ebay processor in another unit (not necessarily a Lenovo unit) to be sure it is not defective.

My Partners cat manages to know my Z500 from a table about 10 minutes ago and it has broke the housing for the screen. Atleast one screw has snapped from the metal back plate of the screen that ataches to the 'top'(black bit in image) of the laptop I've attached images to show where the damage is. My question is how can I go about getting a new housing for this laptop? It seems (at this early stage) no other damage has occured.

Hi,My laptop has been experiencing a lot of problems. One of them is that it will automatically restart and reset everything in response to lagging, and after the restart process, I will loose all my saved files and date. This has occured multiple times, and I did not receive much assistance from the customer service back home.My laptop also consumes battery energy really fast. It says online at the official website,  that the battery life is an average of 5 hours for regular web browsing but mine only lasts for maximum 90 minutes and would shut down at under 20%.

Hi! I just bought a Lenovo Z500 to start studying 3D animation, so I got a student license to download and install it. Although it seems the laptop has every needed requires to install and use it, it seems to have some sort of error starting up, and sending reports to Autodesk is getting me nowhere. I did my researches, and seem to be a solution, but I couldn't complete it. Autodesk recommends in their forums to disable UAC, but after I did that, same problem occurs. Is there any solution to make Autodesk 3D Studio Max work in my laptop? If there is, can somebody explain me the steps to follow? Thank you.

Answer:please help Ideapad z500 graphic card

Hi sherif1984 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

It maybe the Windows automatic update that changed previous driver , it would help if you recall the date it was working ok with the driver for a system restore to jump back .

Check current version of the video driver via device manager (right click on device for property) . It may also offer rollback driver but system restore can provide better rollback as it applies with all other drivers that may have changed along with the date.

Older drivers version are available from the support site on a different OS version .
Z500 is not listed on Win10 supported models that is why Win10 driver versions are not available.

Particular configurations of a computer model may include hardware components not compatible with Windows 10. Therefore, its upgrade to Windows 10 is not recommended.
The following listed computer models include hardware components not fully compatible with Windows 10. Therefore, upgrading these models to Windows 10 is not recommended

Hello, I just purchased 2 weeks ago a new Ideapad Z500 i5-3210 MG, model name 5931, and I am not satistisfied with it due to some problems:The systmes is running slow, which you would not expect from a new machine. The battery gets depleted after maybe 2 - 3 hours and the computer would not restart from idle only with battery energy, even if there is enough energy in the battery, I have to conect to power in order to restart it.If someone has any idea what could be the problems with this computer and how to fix it, that will be great.

Welcome in lenovo forums

The system performance depends on how the personal usage and how many application are opened in behind . if everything is ok so we can processed witht the recovery as best option
As for the battery issue , the machine will not be able to restart with the battery only if the battery charge are less than 5% and of course te performance depends on the usege the created power plan

Please let me know if the recovery is a suitable options or not so we can processed .

I have a router with 150mbps wifi n but my Lenovo is only able to connect at 65mbps (sometimes, for few seconds, at 72mbps). I'm so close to the router and there is nothing between me and it. I have full signal and there aren't other wifi that use my channel. I use WPA2 AES as criptation method. This question has been asked before here:http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-Z-and-P-series/Ideapad-Z500-mSATA-SSD/td-p/931983Unfortunately there is no mSATA slot available. You can always consider replacing your HDD with a SSD, which is slightly cheaper. Consider getting one of 256GB and if you need more just buy a external hard drive.Bonne chance!

I have a z500. I updated from win8 to win8.1. But I cant seem to increase the brightness.. It is interesting because the other hot keys work correctly. I've even upped the brightness in the Control Panel, but nothing seems to work. I pressed the f12 key once, while not holding fn (the key thats supposed to increase brightness). The brightness was instantly turned to minimum and I cant turn it up again. The f11 key for brightness decrease seems to do nothing. I would really like a solution to this problem fast since its really hard to see anything on the screen with the brightness turned all the way down. I  tried to increase brightness with and without Lenovo Energy Management in Win8.1 and in BIOS, but  nothing changed.

Answer:Ideapad z500 brightness can't increase

hi fadhil,

Sorry to hear what happened,

Open Device Manager and open the Display Adapter category.

  > Right click on your Intel HD Graphics and choose Update Driver,
           >Select Browse My Computer
                 >Then Select Let me pick from a list of device driver

You will have a list of drivers try selecting one and apply it then try adjusting the brightness
If it did not work Try the Update driver again and select another driver from the list and check.

Hope this helps

A few days ago I purchased a 2nd hand Ideapad Z500 (build date is 2013 and it's the i5 model) and I have unfortunately came across a problem, when i recieved the laptop i had to reset back to factory settings once reset and i got into windows and after installing all the drivers that needed installing i noticed in device manager there was no nividia graphics card only the intel hd 4000.I have downloaded the Intel Graphic drivers from Lenovo's support website which installed ok. However, if I try to install the NVidia driver it says "Graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware" I tried the newest driver and some old drivers and also the driver from Lenovo website but I couldn't install it. As i said above there is nothing about NVidia in the Device Manager. It only shows Intel graphic card. i installed AIDA64 and GPU-Z and again they only show only Intel, they cannot see NVidia either. So after much reading on the this support forum I updated the bios to the newest version, v1.21 but nothing changed, also from what i can make out from the forum reading i have done there should be a setting in the BIOS called "Graphic Setting" which needs to be set to "Switchable" well that option is not there so i don't know if the problem is the bios or the motherboard. So i am not sure if this is a Hardware problem or software anyway i am going to try another recovery and see if that sorts it. So any help or advice would be most appreciated.  My Lenovo... Read more

Hey guys,I own an IdeaPad Z500, with a ST500LM012 HN-M500MBB 500 GB HDD made by Samsung.I would like to make an upgrade with a 1TB HDD, which I would place in the HDD Caddy (DVD/CD Drive replacement). And I was also planning to get a Samsung 840 EVO SSD, which I would place in the primary HDD slot.BUT, the HDD I have at the moment is 9,5mm thick. And the 840 EVO is 7mm thick. Will I have any problems installing it in the primary HDD slot? And is there any chance I can fit a 12,5mm HDD either in the primary HDD slot or in the HDD caddy?I'm terribly sorry for my English, it's not my native tongue. Thanks in advance.

If you have the 7.0mm drive it can also be accomodated. medo994 wrote: ...And is there any chance I can fit a 12,5mm HDD either in the primary HDD slot or in the HDD caddy? Answer: For the primary hdd slot, the hdd/ssd mounting cage is designed for 9.5mm, thus a 7.0mm or 9.5mm hdd/ssd will fit. However, a 12.5 mm will not fit. For the caddy, you will have to consult the caddy specs if it will accomodate a 12.5mm hdd. Also you may have to check the dimension of the caddy against the ODD to see if it will fit in the ODD slot.

hi brice572,

The battery on that Z500 is showing a sign of imminent failure. Can you try to perform a battery gauge reset to fully dragin the battery and reset the charge capacity. To do this, open the Lenovo Energy Management > Battery > Battery Gauge Reset (see spoiler)
 Spoiler (Highlight to read)
If the above steps doesn't work, you need to call lenovo on how to go about replacing the battery.
