ideapad z500 Backlight of the monitor not working anymore

Question: ideapad z500 Backlight of the monitor not working anymore

Hi all,To be honest I`m quite desperate as I am not in my home country where I bought it anymore 12 days ago, and I would hate to wreck the warranty, so I truly hope someone could help me here.I bought the non touch version of it 12 days ago in Italy, downgraded to win7 and had some crazy issues with the standby, so I removed the Intel power management and all went well. The only issue that lasted was the occasional flickering of the monitor: it went black randomly for a microsecond like 2 or 3 times a day. Not even everyday. So I thought nothing of it.Yesterday I played for hours without the slightest issue. Today I turned it down after browsing the Internet on battery and plugged it in. After a few hours I unplugged it and turned it on, there was ni backlight in the monitor.Turned it off, plugged and it didnt start. Plugged it off and after pressing the power on button a few times it started, without backlight. Without the light, the computer is basically not usable. So I bought a brand new laptop for a long stay away from home, and it left me in the cold not even two weeks after I bought it...Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Can someone help, please.

Answer:Ideapad z500 keyboard backlight stopped working.

SoapForBrains wrote:Can someone help, please. From an off condition, powering up the unit should cause the backlight to switch on and then off. This is an indication that the backlight is fine. Pressing Fn + Spacebar should toggle on/off the keyboard. If you cannot obtain the indicated observations then probably you need to replace the keyboard. Try contacting Lenovo and inquire about it.

The hard drive died so I bought and installed an SSD into the system, fresh install of Windows 10 64bit. I have managed to find the chipset and other basic drivers but have no ability to turn the backlight of the keyboard on or adjust the screen brightness. I believe the brightness of the screen can be resolved by rolling back to a previous intel HD driver however no matter what I have tried cannot get the backlight of the keyboard to function. Any assisstance would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,For your information, almost everyone says it's working by "fn+space" but for my laptop it was "double space", i don't know why.Anyway, backlight was working fine until yesterday. Fan started to get loud so i took my laptop apart and cleaned the fan. The noise is gone but backlight stopped working. Capslock, numlock lights and fn key are working, i do not know if there is a correlation. I read almost every topic about the issue but none of them helped.

Hi all, as per title, I bought 13 days ago a new z500 in Italy and moved here for studying. Suddendly the monitor light died. I cannot turn it on at all. Most probably is a cable doing faux contact or whatever. Is there anyway I can use the warranty or not void my warranty getting it repaired? I cannot afford not to have a computer for the duration of my stay, and thats why I bought a new laptop! It should be covered by the international warranty, but of course it looks like there is no local drop point. Any idea/mail address/whatever? Thanks.

Answer:My Ideapad z500 has a broken backlight and Im currently in Iran, is there anything I can do?

Hi. This is not a hardware problem, I think.I have the same problem, and it happened to me when I updated to Windows 8.1.So probably we should search for new drivers.

Good day! A few days ago has turned off keyboards backlight of lenovo Z500. I tried to reboot the laptop, but backlight still doesn't work as before by pressing FN+Space buttons. I hope this is a software bug and I could solve it without help of service center. But I can't solve it without your help, as the website and the Internet has no effect, and I have no desire to reinstall the system because of backlight. Maybe someone knows how to make it work again?

Answer:backlight on keyboard for z500 touch not working

hi Gadi621,

Welcome to the Forums.

I'm not seing any changelog related to any keyboard backlight changee from the BIOS readme.txt file so I think it's unlikely that updating the BIOS is the cause of the problem.

Just to check, when you power up the machine, do you see the keyboard backlight turning on?

Ideally, for the backlit to work, the following must be met:
1. A backlit-type keyboard must be installe (you can tell if the keyboard has backlights when there's a "crown" like icon on the space bar.
    - Link to picture
2. The keyboard ribbon & power cable (for backlit) must be properly connected to the motherboard
    - Link to picture
    - Link to picture

If one of the following is not met, the backlight feature won't work.

Hi all, I've had my Lenovo ideaPad Z500 Touch for 2 years already, and this is the first time my KEYBOARD BACKLIGHT has stopped working. I am using Windows 8.1 (always updated) on a 64-bit OS. There has been no trauma to the device prior to the disfunction, however I did recently install CCleaner to my laptop to speed up the starting time (which may or may not have anything to do with the disfunction, but I am bookmarking it as a possibility since before installation my keyboard backlight was working just fine). Around the same time I also recently updatedWindows Malicious Software Removal Tool for Windows 8, 8.1 and Windows Server 2012, 2012 R2 x64 Edition - March 2015 (KB890830) upon recommendation from Windows Update, prior to which there was also nothing wrong with my keyboard backlight. (1) I have tried the Fn+SpaceBar option (as I usually do to toggle on/off when I'm doing work), but the backlight still does not turn on.(2) I have tried reinstalling Lenovo Energy Management (as has been recommended in previous posts), but it still does not work even after restarting. Since the last post on this was some time ago (last one on 2nd January 2014 with solutions that do not work for me), I would really appreciate it if anyone could help me on this issue. Thank you so much,

Hello @ all,

after installing Win7 on my new bought Satellite A500-15h the keyboard backlight is not working anymore.
I dont know if it was working before with vista... but hopefully.

In Bios the illumination is enabled. Furthermore the Features (on F1-F9) controlled with Fn are not working and the beep which was normally heard by using the function-buttons for turn down/on the sound can not be heard anymore, even if the beep is enabled in BIOS.

Hopefully someone may help
Thanks in advance
giraffe

I already installed the value added package and the BIOS update.
In Linux the keyboard is also not illuminated.

Answer:Satellite A500-15h - keyboard backlight is not working anymore

Hi

First of all you have to get the FN buttons working again.
In order to do this you have to install the VAP and the Toshiba Flash Card support utility from the Toshiba European driver page.

Regarding the keyboard backlight;

Not all notebooks support the keyboard backlight.
You should check the Z button.
If the Z button would contain an tiny keyboard sign then the notebook has been equipped with keyboard backlight and it should be possible to enable this using FN + Z key combination.

Hi all, I have an issue with my Lenovo Z500 touch. The USB 3.0 port on the left is not working. When I attach an external HDD, the HDD light is on, so it is powered, it is not seen by my pc.I have looked in the Device Manager and there's an error in the USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller. It says that the device cannot start. Tried to udate the driver, but it says that the driver is up to date. I have Windows 8.1. The other 2 USB 2.0 ports work fine. Any idea? Could be a driver problem? Here is the event in the Device manager: Device PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E31&SUBSYS_397717AA&REV_04\3&11583659&0&A0 had a problem starting.Driver Name: usbxhci.inf Thank you in advance. Michele

I uninstalled all the USB drivers, then rebooted. The Device Manager says that the USB controller works properly, however, the HDD is still not recognized.

Hello to everybody... I'm looking for a solutiion for the problem that I'm experiencing on my laptop (Ideapad Z500) with Windows 10 installed. In particular I'm not able to connect my laptop to my bravia TV trough Miracast. I have tried with another laptop HP (with Win 10 as well) older than my Z500 and I was able to stream my laptop monitor to the television without any problem. I have already checked the following:- last driver available is installed for the wireless adpater;- last driver available is installed for the video card Intel HD Graphics 4000;- I have checked on DXdiag.txt file system information that Miracast is supported by the laptop graphic adapter. I tried several times to connect the laptop to the TV but every attempt was uncessfull... I don't know what else to check... can anybody help me to solve the problem Thanks in avdance for the support.

I have had the exact same problem with my ideapad 300 171SK. I get the message on my LG smart TV "laptop not connected." I can cast with two different tablets and two cellphones but not the laptop. I purchased this laptop at Best Buy. I talked to the "GEEK SQUAD" and I am told, "It should work." Lots of help, huh?

Hi, it appears that the elan mouse pad on my ideapad Z500 is not working. The only way I can use it is by plugging in an external mouse via USB. I've tried restarting the laptop several times but doesn't seem to be doing the trick. Please advise?

Answer:Ideapad Z500 ELAN mouse pad not working

hi chazchenko,

Welcome to the Forums.

You didn't mention the OS that you're using but if the machine came preloaded with Windows 8, can you try the following:
1. Press the Windows key? +R and type devmgmt.msc. On the Device Manager, navigate to the Mice and other pointing devices and ensure that the ELAN touchpad is present and is not disabled (uninstall it if necessary to refresh the device). Also, check if the Rollback Driver is clickable to isolate a faulty driver.

2. Hold the Shift key while doing a restart to boot into the Advanced Startup Options or press the OneKey Recovery button while the computer is turned off to boot into the System Recovery Options and from here, check if the internal mouse if it's working.

If the touchpad still doesn't work then there's likely an imminent failure on the touchpad. If you're no longer in warranty, you can try to open it up and remove and reinsert the Touchpad cable inplace and observe.

If you're still under warranty then I recommend you contact the lenovo helpdesk for service.

Hi.I have a laptop with windows 8.1. The problem is out of my 3 USB ports (2 USB2.0 and 1 USB 3.0) USB 3.0 does not work at all. When i try to plugin any device like a Pendrive it dosent read, if I insert a cooler it gives no power. I think it may be a hardware problem but in the device managerthere is 1 USB Root HUB(xHCI) which i think is for my 3.0, however some tabs seems to be missing like Power, Advanced.

Answer:USB 3.0 Ports not working in lenovo ideapad z500.

I had this exact same problem, an external drive only worked in right side usb 2.0 port at stupid slow speeds on my z510 i7.  I tried deleting all the choices in system devices and letting it reinstall, but that did not change anything. Lenovo gave me the worst customer service and their computers suck, this is the first time I bought one of them and will be the last.

Hi Guys,

I am a member of the sevenforums and currently have a win8 laptop so thought I'd sign up here (seems to be the same people behind both forums).

I'm having a little trouble and would really appreciate some feedback.

My Lenovo ideapad z500 had 2 keys (K and I) that stopped working (they worked on the touchscreen) and then after that the delete, 8, and arrow keys topped working. Not sure why.

Before I get the keyboard replaced I'm wondering if it could be something else? There's no water damage and I haven't dropped it so I'm confused. I was told it has to be water damage but maybe 1 drop from the condensation on a glass of water is all I can think that may have affected it.

Would be great for some input on this issue.

Thanks!

Answer:Laptop Keys Stopped working - Lenovo Ideapad Z500 Win8

I was told it has to be water damage

Not true. In fact, water in the keyboard normally does not cause permanent damage. That is, once the water dries, all works again - most of the time. But that does depend on many variables - type of keyboard membrane, how much water, if just water (no sugars or cream, for example), and how much dust, dirt, oily hair/dander, cigarette smoke, cookie crumbs, etc. are under the keys when the water was spilled. The greater damage generally comes when the water works it way through the keyboard and into the computer's electronics.

I would try a regular PC keyboard first to see what happens. If all the keys work properly with a standard USB keyboard, then you can be pretty certain it is the notebook keyboard at fault, and not something more serious.

Answer:Ideapad Z500 Keyboard back light - stopped working after Windows 10 upgrade

Update: I purchased a genuine second hand keyboard online fo £22.00 and the backlight is working perfectly. A good way to test the functionaility of your keyboard is to see if the light comes on during the boot-up. If it does not then it is either a loose connection or a faulty keyboard. It is worth opening up the keyboarg to see if there is a loose connection...see this video on how to do it, it very simple and will take you less than 5 minutes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lK4mKT_7gA If the connection are ok and you still do not see the back light working during the boot up, then I am afraid to say that you have a faulty keyboard. Hello guys, I bought my Lenovo Y570 almost 7 months ago, everything was working fantastically well (software and hardware) until last night. I opened up my laptop, turned it on, and waited like a min or so, I heard Windows booting... But the screen simply wont show me anything, only a black screen. The backlight works, and if I press Fn + F2 the backlight will turn off and on. I've tried the taking off the battery and waiting 30 seconds trick but it doesn't work... The laptop boots perfectly, and the rest of the hardware is in perfect condition (integrated keyboard, fan, usb ports, and so on), even my Windows Home Basic. I live in Venezuela, so I apologize for my poor English since it's not my first language. Thank you very much beforehand.

Can you try to press the  key to toggle the backlight of the LCD screen.

If this doesn't work and you see the windows background, try to connect an external monitor and observe. If it works, you may have a defective screen and you need to call lenovo for service.

Hi all, this morning, while increasing/decreasing the brightness of my Z500 screen, suddenly the brightness blocked to its minimum. It seems that the backlight system has broken down. Would you advice any way to fix this? I'm a little bit annoyed as I bought it new no more than 4 months ago. It is my second Z500 as I returned the first one back to the shop because the microphone did not work. Federico

Answer:my monitor not working anymore

Do you see the Bios splash screen when you first start the computer? The Bios splash screen has nothing to do with the operating system. If you don't see the Bios screen at all then you have a hardware failure.

I have two monitors. One has a HDMI>HDMI cable and the other uses a VGA>HDMI cable, with the VGA end being connected to my tower. This setup used to work without a problem, but then it slowly started having problems. Now, the furthest I can get is having the HDMI>HDMI monitor working fine, and the other monitor working in 1024x768 resolution. The native resolution for both my monitors is 1366x768. When I use the Window's Screen Resolution to change the resolution of the second monitor, I get a message saying "unable to save display settings" and it loses signal from my second monitor and stops working. I'm using Windows 7 and a GeForce GT 545. If there's any other info I'm leaving out, let me know and I'll update it. Thanks

Answer:Dual Monitor not working anymore

So. I was using dual monitors until recently, as i found out my motherboard has been malfunctioning, i swapped it out for something remotely identical so everything i had inside would still run, changed 4gb of ram to be the same type also, but with all the settings it wont work. I tried swapping either on the motherboard or on the video card, they wont do, only the first vga type display ( need an adaptor) works, if i connect any of the monitors on the second slot of the video card or on the motherboard, the second screen will stay black, and the led flash blue, opposed to saying no signal as its not connected. So overall it shows its connected but the pc either from desktop or from the amd center ( using a radeon 6900) wont detect the second screen, Ill update more info and specs if needed, please help ~

Hello outhere,

The backlight of my M-series M70-147 does not turn on anymore.
I first noticed this when awakening the laptop from standby or hibernation mode.

At first I thought the screen was not working anymore, but when I looked closely I could still make out the icons on the desktop vaguely. So at first I rebooted the laptop and then most of the times the backlight would turn on and stay on.

But now it does not do that anymore, not even when I close the screen (to force standby mode) and then open it again, the backlight won't turn on.

I also looked at other forums and topics what the cause might be, a broken backlight or a faulty power inverter.

So can anybody with the symptons described tell me what the cause might be?
I'm pretty sure nothing is wrong with the graphics card because when I hooked on my laptop to my dads LCD monitor it just displayed the desktop of my laptop on the LCD monitor. Also the first time I did this after pressing Fn-F5 a few times the screen of my laptop would come on some times. But now it does not do that anymore.

So can anybody with the symptons described tell me what the cause might be?

Many thanks.

Answer:Backlight does not turn on anymore Satellite M70-147

> So can anybody with the symptons described tell me what the cause might be?

For me it looks like a faulty FL inverter.
The FL inverter is a small part behind the display frame and it controls the backlight.

Usually the external display should work properly because the FL inverter affects the internal display only...
However, the issue can be solved only by replacement of this part.

I recommend contacting the Toshiba ASP in your country to get this part replaced

Answer:ideapad z500

hi Safi2905,

Welcome to the Forums.

You might want to follow this thread and apply this battery firmware update to address the battery concerns. As for the fan kicking in at power up, this is most likely a thermal design to keep the laptop running cool - unless you're hearing rattling / grinding noise that might indicate a faulty fan, otherwise, this is normal.

If you're leaning towards a new lenovo unit to use mostly with MS Word/Excel and web surfing, check out the U Series / S series models (if you're a typist, check out the S300)

I just recently got the Ideapad Z500 for my birthday and I loved it but there is one thing that is doing my head in and I wonder if there is a way to stop it or fix it. Basically the "i" key on my keyboard is super sensitive and I don't need to push it down, just slightly touching it types an "i" and means I keep accidentally typing an "i" just because I accidentally touched it. Does anyone have the same problem and do you know if there is a way of fixing it?!

Answer:I key on Ideapad z500

should also mention I don't know if this is a feature of the laptop considering the "i" is a commonly used key??

I've been running this Z580 for a year or so, and updated to Windows 10 a couple of months ago. Both the laptop display and an external monitor (HPw1907 vga) have been working fine. The other day, the external monitor just stopped working.   I check the device manager and the Intel HD Graphics 4000 display adapter is disabled, due to a Code 43. I have tried rolling back to an earlier restore point, I've uninstalled and reinstalled several versions of the Intel graphics adapter, up through the current compatible one. The most recent display adapter driver from Intel is apparently not hardware compatible with this adapter. The funny thing, is that the driver wants to work! On booting, while the black and white Lenovo splash screen is displayed, with the little circular Windows logo circling around, I can move the cursor back and forth between monitors. As soon as the screen turns blue (I assume with Windows drivers loading) the external monitor blanks out and I'm back to one screen.  Based on that behavior, I'm wondering if it's not a display driver that is specfically the problem, since I've loaded up the latest drivers several times, but if maybe a recent Windows update has sneaked in a driver or component for something else that is causing the Intel driver to crash. Any thoughts?  Back in earlier versions of Windows, you could have the system load one component at a time during boot, so you could check for incompatibilities. So, if the... Read more

Hi.I bought the Lenovo Ideapad Z500 and I'm trying to boot from a USB drive in order to install Windows on it.When I start the boot menu I only see the hard-drive, the DVD and the network.I tried to set both UEFI mode and Legacy mode in BIOS but the USB stick does not appear in the menu when I boot.I put the image of windows with Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool which formats the stick in NTFS mode.I have the latest BIOS v1.21 and I tried with 2 different USB sticks: one 16GB USB 2.0 Corsair and with a 32GB USB 3.0 ADATA both on USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports on the notebook.I really haven't seen anything like this in my entire career. I even downloaded the file efi\boot\BOOTX64.efi and replaced the one that Windows come with on the specified folder on the USB stick ....Why is so difficult to choose the USB boot drive on the newer notebooks?Does someone have a clue how can I boot from USB?Thanks in advance!  Bupitz

Answer:USB boot for Ideapad Z500

Hi,

I don't think I can be of much help, but a couple of things to try:  if your USB flash drive is formatted NTFS, it will only boot in legacy mode if it is bootable at all.  One thing you might try is to set the partition active if it isn't already.

If you want to boot in UEFI mode, format the flash drive with a single FAT32 partition.  Copy the contents of your install DVD to the flash drive.  If you're using an ISO copy the contents of the iso using a tool like 7zip.  UEFI bootabiliyt doesn't require using a special tool to prep the drive.  Just format it and copy the install medium to it.

Win7 requires CSM support in bios to boot successfully in UEFI mode.  That may always be enabled in UEFI mode or it may be a separate option in BIOS.

Hi,

My one month old z500 fails to boot and gives an error message saying "DEFAULT BOOT DEVICE MISSING OR BOOT FAILED."

This happened after i had to force my pc to shut down by pressing and holding the power button because it hadn't been responding for a while and I was only browsing on the web. When I attempted to restart it I encountered that error message

I suspect it's a hdd related problem because when I enter BIOS it says "not detected" in front of "Hard Disk" caption. That means hard disk is not recognized by BIOS. I tried one key recovery but it's useles cause nothing happens when I press okr button.

What do you think this is caused by and what should be done to recover my pc.

Hello!I bought my new Lenovo Ideapad Z500 only two weeks ago and since than it works fine, however yesterday it produced a very strange error. When I turn on my laptop it stops when the Lenovo logo shows up and freezes. The worst problem is that, it doesn't happen every time I turn it on, so when I bruoght it back to the shop, it was working fine again, and after I arrived home, it did the same error. It wasn't only a one time experience, I've tried it at least ten times, and it stopped on the Lenovo logo over and over again. I send it back to the service, however, I am curious whether I'm the only one facing with this weird issue or not. Thank you for your time!Best regards to all!

Hi,I have z500 ideapad with 6 GB ram,1TB HDD and i5 processor...could you please tell me till which memry system will support...shall I upgrade to 12 GB8gb and 4 GB in two slotsPlease adviceThanks,Rajesh

Answer:Z500 ideapad RAM upgrade

hi Rajesh,

Welcome to the Forums.

From page 26 of the HMM, the Z500 can take up to:

Standard  Memory ? DDR3-1600/1333MHz SODIMM × 2 (max 16 GB)

A 12GB (8GB+4GB) upgrade is also feasible but if the machine came with 4GB (2GBx2), I would go for an 8GB(4GBx2) or 16GB (8GBx2) depending on your needs and workload.

Hi, I am in the market for a new laptop and have narrowed my choices to the Sony Vaio S here http://bit.ly/TAPlYC with Windows 8 Pro and 1 year of support as perhaps the only upgrades and the IdeaPad z500s here http://lnv.gy/WtWizp . I am upset that Lenovo does not offer the 7200 rpm option for the hard drive nor a higher screen resoltion. I personally think the 1920 x 1080 on the Viao S is a bit too high, but the 1366x768 of the z500 is way way way too low in my opinion. I want to love lenovo because the community seems great, but the lack of upgrade options is troubling.  Also, a more general question: I am a web developer that does php/html/css editing/developing using a text editor (not heavy ones like Dreamweaver), watches netflix and listens to things like Spotify. Are the HD 4000 Graphics good enough for me? I know RAM is helpful here, but I like to buy my own RAM because it's fun hunting for it (thats why I dont need an 8GB lenovo option to buy) Any thoughts/advice? Thanks, James

Answer:IdeaPad Z500 - low specs?

hi James,

Welcome to the Lenovo Community.

If you're leaning to the Lenovo Z500, the built-in HD 4000 graphics will be good enough for any php/html programming (especially if you use editors) as this embedded graphics card is on par with the AMD Radeon HD 7520G (based on 3D benchmark).

The screen size though is something that can't be customized but the HDD, you can. If you want fast boot-up,and response time pf your programs you might wanna consider switching to SSD as it's 2-3 times faster than a regular HDD and you can get an enclosure to convert your HDD as an external drive or make your system a hyrid drive (SSD as primary, HDD as secondary, you will need this:

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

This configuration with the RAM is OK

Based on the Datasheet of your model This can go to 8GB / 16GB
Ive highlighted the option you prefer with the RAM

About the Discrete NVIDIA GPU, Itis soldered to the Mainboard thus not letting any upgrade to it.
Upgrading the board means upgrading the whole Motherboard, which might not be preferred since it may only give you a minimal upgrade in terms of performance.

Hope this info helped

Dear Lenovo community, I would like to change the HDD of my Lenovo z500 with a SSD. Moreover, since I have problem with the OS (win 8.1) I intend to format the PC and reinstall it. My question is: after the substitution of the HDD and the install of the new OS will I still be able to use the hotkeys (pc brightness, volume etc.) of my keyboard or have I to install some additional software or set them in the BIOS? Moreover, have I to install lenovo energy management (to control the battery) and the intel hd graphics drivers? thanks for the attention

Answer:lenovo ideapad z500 hotkey

Hi mardix1982 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Would you still be able to boot to Windows on the original image ?
You may create a recovery image first that can be useful on the SSD change or even clone it after a factory restore (One Key recovery page 23) using the SSD software or other tools.

Since there be no changes on the BIOS , hotkey features under configuration setting should stay enabled.

Answer:Ideapad z500 HDD clicking sounds!

hi Moktik,

Sorry to hear what happened,

The clicking sound you hear is from the actuator,
It tries to re - read or rewrite something on the harddive. while it does that it also shows a sudden drop of read/write speed to "0" shown on your Hd Tune Test.

This is a behavior of a bad disk and it has to be backed up as soon as possible and have the harddrive checked by Lenovo Technical team.

I suggest back up your data first and Call Lenovo Technical Support for assistance.

Regards
Solid Cruver

Hi all. I bought a Lenovo z500 notebook 3 days ago. Everything is perfect but I have a big problem. As you know, this machine has 2 graphic cards, one of them is Intel and another is NVidia. -  I have downloaded the Intel Graphic drivers from Lenovo's support website and I could install it correctly. However, if I try to install a NVidia driver it says "Graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware"  I tried the newest driver and some old drivers +  the driver from Lenovo Support website but I couldnt install it.-  Also there is nothing about NVidia in the Device Manager. It only shows Intel graphic card.-  Monitoring programs like AIDA64, CPU-Z, GPU-Z  show only Intel, they cannot see NVidia too.-  I updated the bios to the newest version, v18 but nothing changed.-  Graphic setting is "Switchable" in the bios. Now,  how can I fix this problem ? Thanks.

Hi all, Recently bought an Intel Core i5 3360m 2.8Ghz on Ebay for my Lenovo IdeaPad Z500 to upgrade from an i5 3210m. Problem is when I install it, the laptop won't boot. No display, nothing. Works fine when I put the old one back in. Reading the documentation, the 3360m is supported so I don't understand why it's not working. Got the latest BIOS version. Can anyone help? ThanksAndrew

Answer:IdeaPad Z500 CPU upgrade issue

These are the differences between the two processor from Intel's site:Intel vPro? TechnologyIntel Virtualization TechnologyIntel Trusted Execution Technology If they are compatible they should work in your unit. However, since it does not one possible reason I can think of is again Lenovo's restrictions just like in their wifi card. I could be wrong. Try the Ebay processor in another unit (not necessarily a Lenovo unit) to be sure it is not defective.

Hi, my sons Z500 screen has cracked and I am after a replacement screen. This is the non touch sensitive screen and has a gloss finish. Could anyone tell me if Lenovo used just one screen for this laptop or if they used a couple of different types of screens during manufacture, like some other companies. I know I can remove the old screen to have a look at the specs, but my son is still using the laptop with an external monitor and would prefer me not to take his precious computer apart until I have the new screen. Any help will be very appreciated.many thanksIan

A few days ago I purchased a 2nd hand Ideapad Z500 (build date is 2013 and it's the i5 model) and I have unfortunately came across a problem, when i recieved the laptop i had to reset back to factory settings once reset and i got into windows and after installing all the drivers that needed installing i noticed in device manager there was no nividia graphics card only the intel hd 4000.I have downloaded the Intel Graphic drivers from Lenovo's support website which installed ok. However, if I try to install the NVidia driver it says "Graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware" I tried the newest driver and some old drivers and also the driver from Lenovo website but I couldn't install it. As i said above there is nothing about NVidia in the Device Manager. It only shows Intel graphic card. i installed AIDA64 and GPU-Z and again they only show only Intel, they cannot see NVidia either. So after much reading on the this support forum I updated the bios to the newest version, v1.21 but nothing changed, also from what i can make out from the forum reading i have done there should be a setting in the BIOS called "Graphic Setting" which needs to be set to "Switchable" well that option is not there so i don't know if the problem is the bios or the motherboard. So i am not sure if this is a Hardware problem or software anyway i am going to try another recovery and see if that sorts it. So any help or advice would be most appreciated.  My Lenovo... Read more

HI! I have just purchased an Ideapad Z500 3rd Gen i5 laptop around 10 days back and am seriously fed up with the performance. From the very first day, the machine is working slow, the USB ports are giving me problems right since day 1. On top of it, yesterday, when I tried to eject a pen drive, there is a small part which has come out of the laptop alongwith the Pen Drive. I am sure, it has something to do with the USB port. Furthermore, today the keyboard panel has started to pop up slightly. Also, the machine works pretty slow, as compared to the excellent configuration which I had chosen. Someone please help! I need to get this laptop replaced immediately. I wonder if it was my mistake to choose lenovo over other brands. Please please help. The Serial No. of the machine is xxxxxxxxxxx and the model no. is 20202. Expecting a quick response from the Customer care team. Regards, Sunil Rijhwani Cell:xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I bought mine (z500) last month (10 Nov 2013) at lowyatt plaza, kuala lumpur but when i checked at the website, it's warranty has already started 2 month before i bought it. The gaming performance is very good i cant deny it but the main issues now are :

 - The keyboard slightly bend up !!
 - Some of the keys easily pop out
 - Hardisk performance is too slow that i cant run more than 1 apps
 - CapsLock LED indicator reversed (it lights when in lowercase mode but lights off when in uppercase mode)
