Question: Battery Plugged in But Not Charging. Ideapad 580

I have a Ideapad 580. Only had it a few months and it says the Battery Plugged in But Not Charging. This is new, and I have googled it and it seems to be an on going problem with Lenovo Computors. Has anyone figured out the solution yet? For such a short time period owning this computor,.. I am not impressed. Someone please help me. Thank you.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

Hi, I bought my lenovo z400 ideapad beginning of April this year and just about two days ago it just turned off and though I plugged it in later it started saying 'plugged in but not charging'. What do you think is the problem?  Furthermore I lost the receipt ( the sales receipt) but there is still the model/series no. , is the warranty still on please?

I have an IdeaPad 500.  The A/C charger is "plugged in" and the icon says it is "charging" but there is no charge to the battery, which is now at 53% (it was 55% yesterday).   I have gone to the forum and done what they suggest (e.g. turned off the Conservation Mode).  Unlike most questions on the forum, my system says "charging" rather than "not charging".  And because it is an IdeaPad, I cannot remove the battery (at least not without opening up the case).  I am a bit worried this is a hardware/battery failure -- but I hope this forum might give me a software fix

The battery in my Lenovo ideapad 300 - 151SK started last week to drop the % available every day lower, and lower, to now it's only 15%. It is always plugged into AC power. What do I need to do? Wierd that there was a big update downloaded last week and I wonder if this caused the problem.? I am not a tech person...just a user. Thanks for any help you can give me. Terry

Hi, I had the problem where the battery didn't charge at all even if it was connected in the right way and the charger was plugged in. So I started to search internet for possible solutions. Those I found where to 1) disable alt uninstall ac and acpi adapter in Windows Device Manager. Restart computer.. Not charging problem is related to some Windows issue. 2) Choose the alternative "maximum battery life" in Lenovo Energy management.. Neither worked after several and time consuming tries... The problem here is Lenovos "smart" Energy management system that prevents the computer from charging the battery to "save it".. Solution: Uninstall Energy Management (Publisher: Lenovo) under Program and Features in Windows Control Panel and the problem is solved.. And don't reinstall this program again....

Hi,I have a problem.Since this morning my lenovo ideapad z500 battery won't charge and if I unplug the laptop it shuts down.I've downloaded and started battery firmware update and there was text saying:"Now configuring the program" . And it was stuck like that for at least half hour and when I pressed cancel and restarted battery firmware update it displayed error that said: "This system is not supported or is not configured for battery firmware update" Please help me.I have windows 7

As per the query we understood that you are facing an issue with system not charging on your Ideapad Z500.
 
Run the system restore to earlier date and check if the issue still persists, if occurs then perform below troubleshooting steps.
 
To resolve this issue please restart the system connecting ?Power Adapter?. Wait till the system boot completely and then go to ?Device Manager? then uninstall ?Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery? under battery option. After uninstalling shutdown the system, remove ?Power Adapter? and reconnect, then switch ON the system and check if the issue has been resolved.

My lenovo s10 netbook, with windows 7 and XP isn't charging anymore. I thought it was because XP is no longer supported or something, but I upgraded to Windows 7 and it still doesn't work. There's an orange light on, and when I move the battery around it turns blinking blue, I thought that meant it was charging, but in Windows 7 it says no battery detected and it's not holding any charge. Any advice would be deeply appreciated. Thanks!!

Try performing a system power drain,
  Remove the Battery and AC charger,
          Hold the power button down for 15 sec.
             Reconnect the battery and AC and turn the system on, Check if the charging will continue.
If not try removing the AC and see if the the computer will shut off.
      If yes then you might need to replace the battery.

The other forum for this did not help as the firmware update is not updated for Windows 8.1, and is not available for Z500 in the updated battery upgrade. Assistance, please.

Hi, I have a lenovo ideapad u410, it is about 2 years old now, and I've been having charging problems. This started last year, where my laptop would be plugged in and down on the battery icon it would say that it's "plugged in, not charging." The battery would deplete completely, and when I try to charge it, the light would just blink.This eventually went away after about a month, I didn't do anything, and I could use my laptop again. However now it's back, at first I thought it was my charger, but I removed my battery and plugged it in and I can use my laptop without the battery. I tried to replace the battery, but it still did not charge. When I plug it in with a battery in the laptop, it will only blink a few times then stop entirely. Do I need to download any battery management drivers? I don't know what the problem is.

I have my U410 Touch for 10 months now.  It always charged to 100 % but starting a couple days ago it only charged up to 90% and stoppped.  I called Technical support as I am still within warranty, they told me to perform the  the battery gauge, but it did not work.  Then they asked me to reinstall the battery driver and the energy management software but it is still not working not charging to 100%.  They now suggest to me to do one key recovey to reset to the factory setting to see if it works.  If not, they said I can send back the computer for service.  I am not sure if I should do the one key recovery becaue I will loose all my files and etc.  I am skeptical if this will work?  Any suggestion?  Should I just tell them I will send back the computer to Lenovo to fix the problem but then I will not have the computer for at least two weeks. ....

Hi All, I need help. My laptop is not charging. Cable is plugged and the status 8% available (plugged in, charging). i have waited for 2 or 3 hours, but the battery won't increase. I already uninstall "Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery", but it did'nt work  I have been searching how to fix it, but did'nt found it. Now, i am getting depressed. T_T

Hello, I have a 3 yr old Ideapad Z510(that came with Win8)which worked absolutely fine until recently. If I plug in the charger when the laptop is on, it abruptly turns off and would never boot again until I remove the charger. However, this is not how it behaves every time. There are some rare instances where I could still operate the machine with charger plugged in.  When turned off, battery is charging and also goes to full 100%. When turned on(battery mode) it does not drain rapidly - I could still get a fairly decent stand up time. So I am assuming the battery is good. I don't see any thermal issues either. Things I tried:-------------- > Tried with a different charger - no help.> Updated the firmware - no help.> Update the entire driver pack - no help.> Applied windows patches, reinstalled and also upgraded windows to Win 10 - no help.> Reseated the battery and associated cables - no help.  I am not sure if there is anything that I could do to at least diagonize the problem before I give it to the service station. Any pointers on this is much appreciated   Thanks much in advance.

This is in response to the problem everyone is having with the battery not charging when plugged in. I found this in the guide for my idea pad Z400. It should help many of you to finally make peace with your battery Battery (B):      Battery Mode (B-1):  By using the battery maintenance function, it is possible to extend the battery lifespan. Before you use this function, read the precaution. Energy Management 8.0 can automatically track your habit of battery use, and then provide suggestions on selecting a battery maintenance mode for extending the battery lifespan. Two battery modes are provided: Maximum Battery Life and Optimized Battery Health.       Maximum Battery Life: In this mode, the battery has the most powerful charging capacity. Note that this mode cannot optimize the battery circle lifespan.       Optimized Battery Health: In this mode, the battery limits charging to 60% of its full capacity. This can reduce the battery degradation and extend the battery lifespan.

Hello. First of all, thank you for taking the time to view my post and potentially help me out. So the problem is that my laptop will not start. I was using my laptop here one day and it was working fine, but it was unable to charge for some reason and ended up shutting down so I went to bed. The next morning I tried turning it on, but it was dead. I have tried a different charger as my sister also has a lenovo laptop, but this did not work either. I would think if the battery was the problem, the laptop should still be working with the charger in? I have tried calling support line several times with no answer, the warranty has gone out and I forgot where i bought the laptop sadly. Really frustrated over here, and any help is highly appreciated!

Laptop: Lenovo Ideapad S100c  Good day! I'm a complete novice at computer troubleshooting. So, please excuse me if I sound like an idiot.  I bought the laptop just 10 days ago (warranty of 1 year). It worked fine before but suddenly the battery won't charge. The icon indicates that it is 'plugged in, charging'. But even if i leave it with the charger plugged in, it won't seem to store the 'charge' and now I'm stuck at 6%.  This is not the first time this problem occurred. One time, I shut it down and plugged it into the charger and left it to charge for a couple of hours. When I opened it, it didn't seem to charge at all. So, I opted to charge it while it was open and it worked.  And, now I leave it open when I charge it but it doesn't seem to although it is indicated. Should I wait for a miracle to happen or do I get a new battery pack?Thank you in advance.

Can you try the following:
1. Remove the battery and AC adapter
2. Press and hold the power button for 30secs
3. Insert the AC adapter and boot into WIndows
4. When the WIndows OS is loaded, slide the battery back in place and see if it takes a charge
5. If the battery still doesn't charge, try to perform a battery gauge reset as discussed in this article.
 
If the battery starts charge, monitor the battery health by using Passmark's BatteryMon.
If the problem persist and the battery still doesn't charge, I recommend you contact lenovo for a replacement battery.

I am having issue with my Ideapad U510 Battery. It's plugged in, but not getting charged. on the battery icon, it's showing up as " 4% avaialble (plugged in , charging) "  - but not getting charged. This issue started couple of days ago and so far i have tried few options but no success yet ( restarted the computer, changed few options in lenovo energy management, unplugged teh power for couple of minutes). since last couple of days, it's showing 4% available charge(although plugged in). Has any in the forum encountered this issue ? Any help is greatly appreciated.

 Can you try the following:
1. Turn off the computer but let the AC adapter remain plugged-in.
2. While the computer is off, let the battery charge for about an hour or two and observe the light indicators. When finished, turn on the computer check the battery status.

 If the battery still stays at 4% and the battery notification is still "Plugged-in, charging" then I recommend you contact lenovo and report the issue as you most likely need to get the battery replaced.

Hi, I recently upgraded to windows 8.1 and my battery won't charge anymore. I saw a similar post with firmware update solution suggeste back in May 2013, but I also saw there was no support for windows 8.1 on the software. Is there any fix for this issue out there? Things have been good with my Yoga 3 pro until this weekend. Battery life was a good 5-6 hours, but after a recent windows update it appears the battery will no longer charge. It shows plugged in and charging and shows increasing charge but after un plugging it will dim the screen as if it's in power save and then die within 10-15 minutes. I reverted to before the update but that did not solve the problem. It happened all of a sudden so I assumed it was related to the update. Please help, love the machine but this makes it unusable.

Hi, all. I have had my Ideapad P400 for a few years now and i have never encountered a problem like this one. I just recently upgraded to Windows 10, which i actually like a lot, and all of a sudden, my battery says "plugged in, not charging." It will only charge up to 59% and it dies very quickly. I thought it was the battery, so i bought a replacement and installed it. It did the same exact thing. I've tried doing a battery reset in the energy management window, i have tried downgrading to windows 8 again, and i have tried looking up different firmware updates that could potentially fix the problem, but nothing. If anyone has any idea on how to fix this problem of mine, i greatly appreciate it. This is really my last shot before i have to take it in to be repaaired. Thanks! -Frank C. (P.S. Good day,I have reached the next problem: after I've returned back from a vacation, I have inserted AC adapter into my laptop and the orange battery indicator was not displayed. I have turned on my laptop and found, that the battery doesn't charge - there is "Plugged in and not charging" message near the battery indicator in the tray. I have tried to follow the steps from the http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-and-U-series-Laptops/Ideapad-Z400-or-Z500-battery-will-not-cha... , but it didn't hepl - the program freezes on the first step "Now configuring the program..." http://take.ms/k0TBi Have also tried to delete/reinstall Energy Management - nothing helped. OS - Windows 8.1 x64.Power Management Version 8.0.2.14. Good day, I bought my Lenovo G580H 1 week before, and before few days i saw, that the battery is not charging. First time the battery was on 61%, later when i was watching the film without AC adapter and after it pluged the AC adapter i saw, that the battery is on 7% and not charging. So no it's not charging too and when you want to watch a film or something without ac adapter laptop is truns off autmatically. So for what i should be angry? I?m sorry to hear that the Battery is not charging and also not providing backup as expected in your G580 Laptop, I suggest you to open the LEM (Lenovo Energy Management) and perform ?Battery Gauge Reset? to get the issue confirmed.

I have a Thinkpad X1 Carbon (Gen3) Model 20BS touchscreen  running Windows 7 64 bit. The battery is not charging -- it's in a perpetual state of "plugged in not charging"  and even when plugged in, it?s losing appr 1 percent per day (down to 31%). This has happened a few times over the past 3-4 months since I got the machine, but I've managed to find things that "fixed" it (at least temporarily): - Resetting the power gauge worked once - Changing the custom battery charge threshold worked a few times - Plugging in the power cord at different stages of reboot seemed to fix it once (although not sure why / how) Based on previous thread posts, I've uninstalled and reinstalled Power Manager and then tried to run Battery Gauge Reset, but to no avail. And the reset only appears to run for about 30 sec before the system tray icon switches back to normal. Thanks in advance. Karl

I have a DELL Inspiron N5110 from early 2011
I was using the laptop correctly..The laptop was plugged in and the battery was charging..Then i removed the charger let the laptop on battery until suddenly the laptop shuts down without even telling me that the battery is low or even leaving some "emergency" charge on it (usually 7% or 5% i don't know)..I plugged it in to charge it again and open my leptop and i found out that the battery is not taking charge anymore!
I tried to see if the propblem is with the connector and tried to remove and put in again the charger and it ddid not work
i tried also to remove the battery and put it in again, it did not help
Now it is stuck on 2% of charge from 5 days and it's plugged in!
The laptop says that the battery is charging, but actually it is not charging and the charge level is the same from days
I looked up some solutions online like uninstalling ACPI microsof from Device manager and reboot the laptop..It did not work
"Jauge de batterie" which is an integrated software related to DELL, says that the battery health is good and that my battery is working properly
The laptop works fine with only the charger plugged in and battery out
PS: the laptop heats usually but i think it did not affect the battery at all since it was working fine and the charge took me about at minimum 30 min on high performance to be emptyed before this happens.

Answer:Battery says: Charging, but it is not actually charging while plugged in and is stuck in 2% for 5 days !

First thing to check is wherther the sysetm recognizes the AC adapter - F2 at powerup to check that.
If it doesn't, try a new Dell OEM AC adapter - if that doesn't fix the issue, replace the DC jack board, and if that doesn't solve it, the mainboard.  Note:  you MUST use a Dell adapter - NOT a third party unit.
If the system DOES recognize the AC adapter, but won't charge the battery, chances are the battery is bad and will need to be replaced.
You cannot solve the issue without checking and, if necessary, replacing these parts.

Hi ! Over the past two weeks I've spent my time troubleshooting why my recently (used) bought X240 is not charging the internal battery. Short timeline: 1. Bought used X240 in good condition but with dead internal and external battery - working well when using power supply.2. Came home and tested that thing -> both batteries show "0% - not charging" (with Win10Pro installed) *suprise, surprise*3. Ordered both new internal and external battery.4. External battery came 1.5 weeks ago. Installed it and worked like a charm (Battery 2 (external): X%, charging).5. Internal battery came the day before yesterday. Installed it and did not work -> "Battery 1: 53% - plugged in, charging - Battery 2: 6% - plugged in, not charging)6. Waited the recommended 6-12 hours like it was written in the "manual" to get it fully charged.7. Next morning -> Batterystatus unchanged (see point 5) ... It's stuck at 53%. Though the status says it's charging, it doesn't.8. Simply tried out what's going to happen when I pull the cable of the power supply -> Notebook instant off *hmmm*9. As the external battery was obviously blocked from charging by the internal (as it was not charged), I've taken out the internal battery again and et voila, external battery is charging again.I've tried to remove both batteries and perform the "Magic Trick" (press the main power switch for 30 secs) and I've also pushed the "reset" switch on the backside near the battery. Running Windows 7 x64.One of my end users' T410 would say that it was charging, but the battery percentage would never change unless you unplugged it. Then it would get lower, but plugging it in would not recharge the battery. We tried putting her HD in a working T410, but the problem carried over. I ended up giving her a new laptop, but I would like to fix the errant T410 if at all possible. Since the problem carried over with the HD in a working T410, I figured it was a software issue.  Reinstalled Windows. No good.Did a wipe of the HD (everything 0's). Reinstalled Windows. No Good.Booted from Linux liveCD. Charging worked, but once I booted into a fresh copy of Windows, it stopped charging. So it seems that the hardware is capable of charging the battery, but not on a fresh copy of Windows: only Linux. Is there anything else I could try to get it working on Windows? Thank you for your time and have a great day.

As you are facing the improper charging of battery , in that case you please need to perform the following steps and check  if the issue gets resolved.
 

Open Lenovo Energy Management
Click on the bottom gear icon between i and ?.
Under Battery Health, Click on Start for Battery Gauge Reset.
That should refresh the gauge and let the system finish through the cycle.

Hi guys, I ran into this problem a few days ago where the laptop is plugged in, it says its charging, but the battery % won't go up at all. It started around 16% and each time I unplugged it for whatever reason it would go down but when I would plug it back in it wouldn't charge it back up. So now I'm at 8% and afraid to unplug it again.  I have the Energy Management set to Balanced, Maximum Battery Life, and it's status is "Charging" and "Good". Any help is appreciated, thank you guys.

Can you try the following:
1. While having the battery and AC adapter plugged-in, boot into the BIOS (by pressing F2) and unplug the AC adapter until the system shuts off (this is to compete the discharge the battery).
 
2. Once the machine shuts down, remove and reinsert the battery and plugin the AC adapter then let the battery charge for about 2hrs while the machine is off and observe the battery lifght indicator. After 2hrs, power up the machine and observe the battery percentage.

If the battery is stucked at 0%, I recommend you contact lenovo and report your findings as the battery may need to be replaced.

Hi,
I have a dell xps 12, bought in 2012. Recently the battery stopped charging. The battery shows 0%, so I have to be plugged in to turn the laptop on. When it is on, the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, charging" but after a day it is still 0%.
Since then I bought a new battery. Just fitted it, but now the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, not charging". Furthermore, when I Fn+F3 to show the battery meter, it says "battery charging diabled". There is no option here to turn battery charging on. Nor is there an option to enable battery charging in BIOS. 
BIOS does show battery performing normally, so does the battery meter (Fn+F3). BIOS also shows AC adapter as 45W, which is the original adapter.
Any help is appreciated!

It looks like the problem is pretty the same as with "Ideapad Z400 or Z500 battery will not charge - plugged in not charging". My battery worked fine when the OS was Vista , Windows 8, but after windows 8.1 installation it was "plugged but no charging". I already have reinstalled the windows, nothing happened. I tried to install the same firmware as Z500, but it isn't work. Lenovo Solution Center displays battery as "Battery software not installed". Downloading and running Settings Dependency Package does not help. I can't find a new firmware in any place  Please Help! By the way, I checked my windows version, and it appears Windows 8 Pro (like it was before I tried to upgrade to win 8.1)

I?m sorry to hear that you are facing battery issues in your Lenovo ThinkPad SL500.
 
I would suggest you to follow the below troubleshooting steps.
 
Go to control panel -> Device manager. Under batteries tab, uninstall Microsoft ACPI Compliant control method battery, restart the system and check if battery charges properly.
 
If the above said didn?t help, shutdown, unplug AC and remove battery. Press and hold power button for several seconds. Then re-install battery and AC, restart and see.
 
Update BIOS to the latest level.

Hello, I just purchased Ideapad 300 S since Februari 2016. But only in 1 month the battery show message "plugged in, not charging". So I went to Lenovo Service Center and replace the battery It worked normal after that. But one month after the battery show same message again? What can I do with this? Hi,I have an IBM T60, my battery works fine. Lost an hour of battery life from when it was first bought, but that's not the issue.When I plug in my charger sometimes (most times), I check the battery thing in the taskbar and it says "Plugged in, not charging". I worked out how to resolve this by taking my battery out, leaving it out, while the laptop is plugged in, and then putting it back in Sometimes I get home from school and the battery is at 20%, I just charge it over night, or think i am, and it doesn't. That's the issue, I don't realise it!  please help. Thankyou.

Oh, and another thing. This happens to my brother aswell (also owns a T60); the laptop would be working fine, until it decides to give us a black screen. Only way out of this is to put it to sleep, and wake it up again. Nothing in particular starts this issue. Thanks

Hi, My new IdeaPad U330p stop suddently charging after 6 month of normal use. I can only use the laptop with the power adapter plugged in. The battery indicator shows that the level is between 0 and 2% so when I unplug the power adapter the computer shut down immediately. I've tested to charge the computer all the night but it doesn't charge at all.I can only use the computer with the adapter plugged in (it's not a laptop anymore lol).When the computer is shut down and the adapter is plugged in the battery led is orange.When the computer is ON and the adapter is plugged in the battery led is blinking orange. Need some assistance ! I often encounter this, but here is the real headache. I have googled a fix for this, but unfortunately it will only work if the battery is removable, which case not for the Ideapad 310-15ikb. Always have to revert back using Acronis. Any other possible solutions for this?

I charged my Thinkpad last night and this morning when I unplugged it, it said battery was low. I was surprised as I had charged it overnight.  I plugged it in again, and the battery iccon shows this message: 99% available (plugged in, not charging). I have been searching for ways to resolve this but haven't found anything appropriate for my model.
 
The laptop was manufactured 7/9/2014.
Model: Lenovo Ideapad U530 Touch.
Windows 8.1.
 
I have had it since September and have never seen this message (but possible that I hadn't noticed).
Since purchase I do notice that the battery definitely does not last the 6-8 hours as the specs say.
 
Appreciate any help on the battery not charging!

hi guys, i was wondering if anybody's experienced something like this before.my mom's Lenovo U350 laptop is pretty new, she bought it only like a month ago. The battery isn't charging for it though. It just saids on the icon "plugged in, but not charging" the battery's already at 0% so it's only running off the AC cable now.the laptop was bought in HK and doesn't have international warrenty. so it's not like i can just send it back. so if anybody has any clue as to what i'm missing here, i'd appreciate any advice i can get. Thanks

I'm having the same exact problem with my Y550, the battery is stuck at 82% and says plugged in, but not charging... I just got this like 3 days ago too, and was accidentally sent a vista and waiting for a windows 7 version to be sent to me.  In any case, if I unplug the laptop it wont even run on battery, it just shuts down, and I cant turn it on with the battery.  Is there any solution to this because this is literally driving me nuts...

Seriously WTF! Lenovo y550p core i7 It's been 7 days, 7 **bleep**ing days and this piece of **bleep** doesn't work already.  Battery will not take a charge.  Says "75% (plugged in, not charging).  You unplug the AC Adapter and it just turns off.  All the forum advice so far has been stupid.  Was it the Windows 7 April Fools Update? Should have listened to the BAD NEW EGG REVIEWS, THESE NOTEBOOKS SUCK!

Hello,  I have a two year old Ideapad Flex 14 which is having some battery issues. Specifically, the battery light is flashing red, and when I plug in my laptop, the status says ?plugged in, not charging.? When plugged in, it stays at roughly the same battery level, though it has been gradually losing battery despite being plugged in over the last few days (this has been going on for five days or so now).  It is at 5% battery now, and I?m not sure what to do to make it charge. I?ve tried taking out the battery and putting it back multiple times, but am not really sure what else to try ? I?m out of the country until December, so I haven?t been able to find a repair place to get it fixed yet...  Any suggestions how to fix this?? Annie

1)  Shut down the computer.
2)  With the battery in (but AC adapter removed), attempt to turn on the computer by holding down the power button for 30 sec. This should not turn on the computer.
3)  Remove the battery.
4)  Again, attempt to turn on the computer (AC adapter not plugged in) by holding down the power button for 30 sec.  This should not turn on the computer either.
5)  Replace battery, plug in the AC adapter, and turn on the computer.  The battery should begin charging.

 For the past week or so when I have my computer plugged in always remains "plugged in, not charging", but keeps maintains life when plugged in. The lenovo power settings give feedback that the battery is in good condition and that the adapter is recognized. I already checked the lenovo conservation setting which is off, but I am not quite for sure how else to troubleshoot the issue.

I`ve bought lenovo ideapad 510 and I charged the battary untill reached 100% after it I removed the plugger and connect it again I found message on battary ( 98% plugged in, not charging ) .. after one day from using my laptob i go to M A S Egypt and they checked the labtopb and replaced it to me because they found problems in motherboard ... after taking the same new version of laptob I noticed the same problem after charging the battary until reach 100% i removed the plugger and connect it again I found the same pervious mess ( 98% plugged in , not charging )

Hi AhmedMagdyy,Have checked in Lenovo Settings app if Conservation Mode is enabled. Conversation mode is under the battery icon of the app. If enabled, kindly disable the feature. Conservation mode helps extend the battery life of the tablet/laptop by limiting the max charge the battery can hold. Hope this helps.Cheers,

This started happening yesterday with my laptop. When I plug in the AC adaptor, it provides power to my laptop but doesn't charge it. My laptop battery is at 0% so whenever I unplug the adaptor, it dies instantly. Anyone know if this is a dead battery or another issue?

Hello!I write here with a problem that I have since the day before yesterday.When my Laptop is on and the charger is plugged in, the battery won't charge, giving the notification "plugged in, not charging". Laptop works like the charger wasn't plugged - energy drains from battery.I suppose that is a software problem, because when laptop is turned off or hibernated it charges normally.Formating didn't help at all.Microsoft support told me to recalibrate battery - didn't work.Lenovo support told me to try another charger in service - I will try if nothing else works.Maybe someone had the problem like that and solved it without going to service, which I want to keep as a last resort solution.Thanks in advance!

So I bought this laptop 3 days ago. It seems like it has a charging problem. It sometimes charges when I let the laptop in sleep mode or close the lid. I sometimes get a full charge but then, when I'm using it, it just stops charging for no reason. To "force charge" it, I discovered that if I first unplug the charger from the laptop itself, then disconnect the cable from the power brick, plug it back in the laptop and connect the brick back again, it seems to charge for around 4 more minutes. I tried updateing the BIOS with the support from the official Lenovo support site (this one) but it does not work. I heard about the removing the battery and pressing the power button but I can't remove the battery.  The power brick and charger are original and seem to work fine. Should I try buying another charger? Please resond to this as I'm desperate. Thanks much !

Hello, I noticed this afternoon that the battery indicator in the system tray was at less than full and the status message reads "95% - Plugged in, not charging." This was not the case previously, and I haven't changed any battery or system settings that would affect this. I've only owned the computer for about a month or two and I'm concerned that there may be a problem with the battery. I looked up this issue online and attempted to uninstall and reinstall the driver that affects battery control in System Settings, but there was no change to this behaviour. Is there a way to test if the battery is damaged? What other problems could I be having that would produce this effect?

To whom it may concern.I am in desperate help..... I have tried every solution i have managed to find on the internet but none of them work. I have a HP ProBook 450 G1 Laptop. When plugging the power supply in the batery shows that its charging but it never actually charges but simply remians on at same level.....I have checked the power supply as I have an exact duplicate laptop at my disposal, same with the battery. The battery charges perfectly in the other laptop but not in my laptop. When swithcing the batteries form the other pc it will not charge in my PC. bot both are fine in the other PC. I have removed the battery, checked power supply, un-installed and reinstalled the ACPI-complaint and adapter as suggested by most. I have done what ever solution i can have managed to find but neither have worked but the battery works  just fine when inserting into the other duplicate laptop and charges fine. I have tried to instal or upgrade BIOS settings etc. Nothing has worked for me! Please can someone point me in the correct direction!!!!!! Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

I have read a few other similar posts but none of their solutions worked on my laptop.  The battery percentage stays the same when plugged into the charger.  I first noticed the issue this morning when I powered the laptop on and the percentage was at 44% with the charger plugged in overnight, and it was at 44% when I plugged the charger in last night.  I only put the battery in the laptop a couple days during the week when I'm in school, otherwise I just leave it out and have it powered through the adapter.  The laptop is 7 months old.
 
I tried the Gauge Reset for 8 hours today and it wasn't doing anything so I cancelled it.   I have reinstalled the Energy Management software.  I have also tried shutting it down for 20 minutes and charging it at a different wall outlet.
 
What else can I do?

I just tried this from another post and it worked!  Battery is charging again.
 
a. turn off the computer and remove the battery and AC adapter.
b. press and hold the power button for 30 secs and reconnect the AC adapter
c. turn ON the computer and continuously tap F2 to boot into the BIOS, when you're in, press F9 to load defaults and press F10 to save and exit.
d. boot into Windows (while still having just the AC adapter plugged-in) then reinsert the battery.

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with battery plugged in charging in your Lenovo Y50-70 laptop.
 
 Please try to perform the gauge reset, under power manager select maintenance guide and select gauge reset and check for the issue.
 
Also try to uninstall the Microsoft ACPI driver, uninstall the drivers under ACPI and restart the system and check for the issue.
 
Also shut down the system and try to charge the system for 1 or 2 hours and check if the charging percentage has increased. If the charging percentage has increased in Linux then it?s a issue with operating system please reinstall the operating system and check for the issue.

Need Help!

The problem started from June 2, 2015 about 4 AM (UTC +8:00 Philippine, Manila)

I open my Notebook that morning to check on my e-mails and bills at gmail but it's not powering up. At first I thought that the battery was slightly drained because I saw my sister still using it at midnight. I asked her if she did not plugged in the charger when it is nearly drained but she said she plugged it and it is still full when she shut it down.

It is Li-ion Battery

I tried plugging in the charger to check whether it still has remaining battery. It powered up.
On the taskbar/notifications/running apps it says 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging).
So to check out the problem, I left it turned off charging for about two hours.

Then after two hours it still says 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging)
What the hell is this?! I asked my self.
I installed an app to check the status of the battery (Battery Bar)
Battery Bar says something like this:
Capacity: 2K of 8K mWh (not sure about this)
Charging: 0 mW
Running on AC
7.9% Available
Something like that.

Summary Notes:
1. Does not power up without Charger
2. It detects the Battery saying 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging)
3. Though Plugged In, Charging it does not charge at all because of 0 mW charge rate
4. It turns off when the Charger is plugged out.
5. It still run even without the Battery (when the Charger was plugged in of course, then a red x mark shows in the notification taskbar battery icon)

Hi, I have read many people have similar issues for other models other than my Thinkpad x240 20AL but removing the battery won't solve my problem. It is plugged in, it says plugged in but battery is not charging (none of the two batteries this laptop has). I have gone to Driver Manager and uninstalled the 3 Microsoft drivers under battery section. After restarting or scanning for new hardware these drivers appear again and the problem is not solved. I have restarted de computer. Problem not solved I have removed the batter and put it back. Problem not solved. After one night, I switched on the laptop and one of the battery has charged. Right now it says plugged in, charging and it shows already 100% although it keeps charging. The other battery still shows 98% not charging.. I believe this must be a software issue, some power management that prevents the laptop from charging the battery. But where is that software and how to configure it or remove it? I have looked for Lenovo Power Management and similar and it is not installed on my laptop. Anybody knows what I am talking about?

For a few months now, at some point my battery would indicate nn% (plugged in, not charging) and would maintain that charge as long as it was plugged in. Running on the battery, the charge would eventually diminish and in order to get the battery to charge again, I have gone through to process of uninstalling the ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery in Device Manager. Usually within 24 hours, things would revert back to plugged in, not charging. However, that is no longer remedying the problem. (When this was an issue the indicator light next to where the AC Adaptor plugs in would flash blue. Also, I upgraded from Win 8.1 to 10 a few weeks ago, but this issue has been occurring for a few months now). Now the battery reads 2% (plugged in, not charging) and when I use the HP Support Assistant to check the battery, I get the message ?HP Battery Check was unable to access the battery?. I have performed a hard reset, reset the BIOS, and updated the BIOS, all to no avail. If I unplug the adaptor, the computer shuts off. Any suggestions for additional fixes? I have seen one additional suggestion to do a system recovery but I have not yet made a recovery disk for win 10 (I do have one for the win 8.1), and would it make any difference anyway since the plugged in, not charging problem was occurring under win 8.1?

Pretty much what it says in the title.  I have recently been needing to use my Notebook for extended periods of time, and I had found that, despite the laptop reconizing that the charging cord is in, it fails to charge while in use and only charges when the computer is hibernating or when then laptop shuts down. I've taken a look at the battery settings, including Conservation Mode which seems to cause this type of problem, but I've had little to no luck fixing to problem. I would really appreciate if someone could give me some advice on how to fix the issue, as it is getting in the way of my work having to use it for only an hour, then have it charge for an hour.

My computer used to charge but all of a sudden it just stoped. Sometimes at first it say that it is plugged in and charging but that changes to plugged in and not charging after a few minutes. Hey everyone.
Im using a Lenovo G505s. My battery is plugged in but not charging. That's what the icon states. I've read other posts about this but none of the solutions in those questions solve my problem. Whenever I unplug the battery cord my laptop dies. Could my battery be dead and how can I confirm this? Thanks in advance.

If you unplug the battery charger and the laptop literally shuts off immediately, seeing as its not charging as well, you almost certainly have a bad battery. It will likely need replacing. The first sign is issues with it charging. The second would definitely be it shutting off IMMEDIAYELY upon removing the charger.

HP pav. 13 x360. Windows 10 Had the plugged in not charging error with a CMOS error at boot up and then it would take 5min to boot and then it would run fine. Got it in under warranty and they changed the battery out. 4 months later the error has occurred again. As before I tried all the basic troubleshooting from reinstalling/updating drivers to flashing the BIOS to reinstalling windows and it still would not charge. Took it apart this time as it is out of warranty, pulled the battery, cleaned out all the connectors and am currently checking for possible short sites, but I rebooted the laptop without the batter and still got the CMOS error but it booted immediately. I am going to do more troubleshooting, but I do not know what this CMOS error is if the battery is out of the machine. What am I missing? Thanks in advance. Please help. Wife is not happy without laptop.

> Got it in under warranty and they changed the battery out. Which battery did HP replace? A "CMOS error" means that the (small) battery on the motherboard has failed to keep "trickling" enough power to the CMOS chip to enable the CMOS to retain its settings.  This battery is distinct from the "main" removable battery that fits into the laptop. Some computers have "power" settings to maximize battery-life.  This may include not automatically charging the battery up to 100%, if you usually use the computer on AC power.  So, this may trigger the "plugged-in-not-charging" message, but it does increase the life of the battery. > rebooted without the battery, and still got the CMOS error Definitely, it's the "small" battery on the motherboard that is not working.Contact HP, to see if they will admit that they changed the "wrong" battery.

I did some HP recommended updates including a bios update and now I am getting some issues with battery charging. I've not tied the upgrades to the battery issue so I would prefer to keep an open mind to it being something else. I'm now getting the message whenever I click on the battery icon that says "Battery plugged in but not charging" and it will not charge above 55-60%. I am also unable to get my HP Toolbox FX to work properly so that limits my choices to doing battery status checks. I switched charging cables and bought a new battery and the issue remains. HP support is lacking when it comes to the remedies offered. I looked through the forums for this and keep seeing the HP affiliated members continue to put out links to non-functioning or unrelated links. This is becoming  a very time consuming issue that should have a fix and not get run around by HP support. I tried a system restore to a known point of no issues and I still am unable to get resolution on this problem. Does anyone know of a "real" fix for this issue once and for all?

Just bought a new Acer Aspire V Nitro VN7-791G-76Z8 a  couple of days ago.  I've kept the laptop plugged in but the battery level has been dropping by about 1% per day.  The power charging light is always blue and it says "plugged in, not charging".  I'm running Windows 10 and have installed the Power Management update from the Acer Care Center app.  What's wrong and how do I fix it. Thanks

Hello, Have you tried a battery reset? Disconnect the AC adapter.Gently insert a paperclip in the battery reset hole on the bottom side of your laptop.Reconnect the AC adapter, and resume normal use.

I ran the battery test, result: "weak (30) The battery is functioning correctly, but due to normal aging of the battery, the battery life between charges is now significantly shorter than when it was new." So it seems the battery isn't defective, even though it's getting old. I hesitate to run the battery calibration because appaently that will fully discharge the battery, and maybe it will never re-charge. I upgraded to Win10 a few days before this happened; don't know whether that might have contributed to this problem. What's going on here and how can I fix it?

If the battery life between charges is shorter, that means that it is no longer functioning as it did when newer. The result of the test already told you that it is wearing out. You can remove the battery and use the noteboook temporarily without it. Performing a calibration at this point will not help. The title is the message I've been getting for about the past month and a half. I noticed my battery draining, even while plugged in, until it finally got to 0%. With the power adapter plugged in, the laptop still runs but I just recently had an experience where the laptop was suddenly cutting off, even while plugged in.I've done as much troubleshooting as possible, but I haven't been able to figure out the problem. I managed to switch the laptop over into power saver mode and it's been letting me use it without dying immediately on me. I have an internal battery, so the option to remove and power it on separately isn't an option for me.

I am getting this error on my laptop and it is only 8 months old and have tried 2 batteries and the same thing is happening and Dell customer support last night told us it is NOT covered under warranty because it is wear and tear which does not make any sense to me i have owed several dells in the past and never had this problem.

The problem is with the adapter, DC jack or mainboard - replace the parts one at a time until the problem is solved.
As long as there's no evident damage (broken wires on the plug, broken DC jack) the warranty should cover the problem.
If there is evidence of damage - broken wires, broken jack, physical damage to the system -- Dell will deny warranty coverage as it'll be considered accidental damage.
If you need parts references we'll need to know what model system it is (i.e., Inspiron 5537, XPS L501x, etc.).

My Laptop, perhaps since when I have updated BIOS, have that message over battery tray icon and stay stable to 59% of charging. There is also the led of battery blinking one time every 5 seconds. I have Windows 7 Professional 64-bit as OS. Not installed the Energy Management software because not exist for Windows 7. What I can do? Many thanks

Hello, I only bought this laptop a few weeks ago and it does not seem to charge propery (or so it says). As the title suggests when plugged in and I hover over the batter it says "plugged in not charging" It has been like this for a couple weeks now and still has not gone flat as long as it is plugged in, so some sort of charging must be taking place right?  Just want to know if I can fix this just so I am able to see when it's charging and use it without leaving it plugged in. Currently I keep it plugged in at all times in fear of it dying. Thanks for any help in advance.

New computer with very minimal usage.  Basically sat in the box for one year, now, error message states that battery is plugged in not charging.  I've tried testing, and diagnostics reports "unknown."  I've tried a few youtube fixes such as removing the battery drivers and allowing them to reinstall, and tried updating bios.  There is no way that this battery should have died.  Has there been a recall that anyone is aware of? Also, noticed that the case is cracked at the hinge on left side.  I'm super careful and I don't even know how this could happen.  This was not an inexpensive computer!!! Although this sat in box, the warranty is now expired.   Any information would be appreciated. Thank you!

Hi,I am having a strange issue. I was running windows 8.1 and then I downgraded to windows 7 and since I have downgraded to windows 7 I am having this problem battery 0% plugged, not charging. As soon as I remove the power, laptop shuts down. I recently received a HP Stream Notebook - 13-c055na (ENERGY STAR) from a freind and they told me that battery did not work and needed replacing. I began using the computer and everytime it started the computer came up saying: Primary (internal) battery 601 needs to be replaced since it is detecting the storge capacity to be low. So i got a new battery and its doing the exact same thing and will just shut off whenever the ac adapter is not plugged in. I have changed the power plan settings and this made no difference.

Press Esc at power up and then F2 to run the diagnostics menu and there should be a component test for the battery that you can run.

  I'm having this issue where the battery is not charging, and/or the laptop is not recognizing the battery properly. I will just outline the problem and what I have done.  A) Received a brand new assumingly aftermarket replacement battery. 1 - It went through a charge cycle without much problem2 - It stopped charging randomly, to which by experimentation the fix was simply restarting the computer (and removing the battery while the computer was shut down, and replacing it before restarting). It would begin to charge again after.3 - Sometimes, on battery power, the monitor screen would simply turn illuminated black or flicker. During this time, all computer functions still worked and I was able to shut the computer down using my memory and the proper keystrokes. Starting it back up was the (temporary) cure, even without introducing AC Power. 4 - This continued regularly having to reset the computer and the battery to keep it charging. A few days later, while showing some nominal amount of charge (20%?) the computer just shut off instantaneously  With this, I assumed there must be something wrong with the battery so I contacted the people who sent it and they agreed, although I was also asking if it could be anything other than the battery, because to me it didn't feel like the problem was the battery as, once I got the battery charged fully, it worked great as far as holding the charge.  B) I received a second brand new b... I gather this is not a genuine HP battery? Until you try a known good Genuine Battery it is hard to know what the problem would be. You should not have to try driver reinstalls and such. A good battery on a good system just works. Possibilites are bad battery and bad motherboard. Period.

Battery plugged in, not charging:Age of laptop 27 months My battery doesn't charge anymore.  If I make a HP battery test on my HP Support Assistant it shows me as a result : Battery OK.  Meaning: The battery is functioning properly. If I test the battery with an additional programm it shows me a battery wear level 100%. This means, the battery should not be rechargeable anymore.  - What should I do?- Replace battery?- I have a capacitiy of 18% left. What happens if I reach 0%? Yesterday, my computer stopped charging. It was fine the day before, but when I got up yesterday, I noticed I was losing juice. My battery icon says "battery plugged in, not charging." It doesn't charge when it's off, either.  This computer has an internal battery that I cannot remove. I have already tried uninstalling Microsoft ACPI and that didn't help. I have looked at the pin inside the power adapter and it seems to be properly aligned, though it's so small it's hard to tell for sure. It does seem like the adapter isn't plugging in all the way beacuse it's a bit wiggly, but that could be because of the dumb placement of the battery port.Please help! I'm a writer and I can't work with a dead computer!

Hi, I found a lot of answers on the topic but unfortunately none resolved it. So it's simple - the charger is not charging beyond 44% and recently it increased to 48%, and it says "not charging". Battery health is good, I updated the bios, reinstalled both battery drivers multiple times in multiple ways. I am using windows 10, desktop and longevity options for battery are disabled. Only thing I didn't try yet is turning off computer, battery out for 2-3h, etc. due to not having clear steps on how to perform it + would like to know if it's needed.

Hello,my HP notebook is not charging. I plug in the HP charging lead and the light beside the port changes to white although it isn't charging at all (charge doesn't go up at all over time and is still losing charging) or at full charge. I used a different HP charging lead and it didn't work either so the lead is not faulty. I also used different plugs around the house and at another household too and still no success.  I  did a battery check too and it came back with the battery being "Okay".My notebook is only 7 months old so not down to age either!I hope someone can help!Thanks, Jen

HP Community,I am having an issue with the laptop battery. When it is plugged in, the battery does not charge. The start bar icon says "Plugged in, not charging". I just replaced the AC Adapter this week.  I ran the startup diagnostic test and it said that there was a battery failure but when I run the HP Battery Check throug HP Support Assistant, it says the battery is functioning properly. 1) If I calibrate the battery, will this fix the issue? 2) Does the battery actually need replaced? Getting one diagnostic saying yes and another saying no is confusing and frustrating. 3) If calibration does not fix the issue, is there steps I can try to take to resolve the issue before buying a new battery? 4) If I do need to buy a new battery, can I get a product number for the battery I would need to purchase? I have been trying to find a listing with the battery type on it but I cannot find a list with HP Pavilion 13 360x listed. I cant use my laptop unless plugged in... There is no battery left at all and it wont charge...
I have tried to update BIOS but I couldnt because I got a message that the battery needs to be at least 10% charged.
I have confirmed that the charger gives the required volatge, so the charger is fine..
I have no idea if there is something wrong with the battery cz it passed the online dell test..and I dont want to buy a new battery for no reason. 
So I have no idea whats wrong to fix it...

Please list Dell model number and version of windows. Ex: Dell Inspiron 3543, windows 10
In the meantime, please check status of AC adapter in the BIOS. If adapter isn't detected in BIOS, the system will continue to received power but will not charge the battery. Please follow steps below:
1. Power off system.
2. Power on system, quickly start tapping F2 key continuously. You should be in the BIOS. The status of adapter usually listed under the main screen.
The adapter should say the adapter type, if it says 'Unknown' or 'None', then it's a issue with the adapter, and most likely needs to replace with a Dell genuine adapter that suitable for the system. Note: Wiggle the adapter's end while checking it in the BIOS

I have a lenovo b40, which isn't charging. Yesterday it showed "plugged in, not charging". Now, even with the charger plugged in, it doesn't display anything. Also, the power light is blinking. I pressed down the power switch with the battery attached, it simply blinked faster. When I tried the same thing without the battery, nothing happened.

I apologize in advance if this has already been addressed here, I do not see a way to search this forum.
I have an Inspiron 15, 5000 series laptop running Windows 10.  It worked using AC power, but not battery.  The toolbar battery icon message says "0% available (plugged in, not charging).  I have tried several variations of online recommendations to remove the battery and either disable, reinstall, or uninstall drivers.  All were unsuccessful.  
I did notice that if I remove the battery, the battery icon says "no battery detected".  When I plug it back in, the text changes for about 1 minute to "0% (plugged in, charging), and the icon shows charging, but then it reverts to the 'normal' "not charging" status.
Based on this info, how do i determine if this is a hardware problem requiring a new battery, if it is a software problem other then the driver problem that tried earlier, or some other charger problem?

found an item enabled in my icons on my Toshiba that switched off by battery. I have now disabled the switch and it is now charging.most information on the web does not mention this.thought someone might need to know.
