Cleaning the Lenovo y580

Question: Cleaning the Lenovo y580

Hello, I've had a Lenovo Y580 for about an year now and it has started to heat up to really high temperatures about 65 degrees on the hdd and above 90 on the graphics card and cpu. I contacted the Lenovo support center in my region and the person advised me to clean my laptop instead of sending it for repair. So my question is if I open up the laptop to reach the motherboard will it void warranty and if I decide to replace the thermal paste will this void the warranty?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Cleaning the Lenovo y580

hi Te4ko,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Opening the computer will not void your warranty, same as replacing/upgrading some parts.
but, damages on parts or cosmetics during the replacement won't be covered.

Just be extra careful on opening the system and here check this manual of your system disassembly.
Y480 / Y580 disassembly guide

check this article about warranty concerns
http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/Will-changing-your-keyboard-void-the-warran...

also check this one that I use for thermal paste replacement.

Hope this helps,
Cheers

I bought this Y580 in Malaysia. My aunt, to be precise, who bought it about a month ago, while she went there with my grandparents for medical check-up. We weren't able to see each other (due to the fact that we live in different city) until 3 days after Chinese New Year, 17th February.  But after only used it for 2 DAYS (YES, TWO DAYS), something's wrong with the screen. It turned blank. After going through some diagnoses finally I found out that the problem is on the screen, I don't know if it's only the wire or the screen panel. The technician didn't tell me.Being extremely busy, I was only able to take it two days ago to the service center. But the technician said some things about the time of the repair, due to some problems Lenovo Indonesia suffered recently, like it's gonna take a long time to get it done Fyi, this model isn't available in Indonesia so I immediately assume that it'll take a LONG TIME to repair, because they have to ship this sparepart from another country, I pressume, which will take a long time while I need it for my studies. Why did I buy this thing in Malaysia instead of Indonesia ? I'm in Indonesia maybe only for 4 monthsand then I'll go to Malaysia for years and actually, this model comes with international warranty. I should have some peace in mind, right ? But the truth is now I'm panicking. And the irony is I only used it for 2 DAYS. You may say that I'm impatient or what, but I'm being realistic here. I'm not sure ... Read more

I am never letting any of my friends touch my Y580 again. I loaned my friend my Y580 for an hour to write a paper while I was in class and the dummy spilled a bit of his fruit cup on the "j" to ";" corridor of the keyboard. The keys still work when pressed and the backlight still goes on, it has just become annyoying to type l,k,;',.,/ and the shift key. They will stick work when pressed, they will just rise up slowly or be hard to press. Good thing I am doing a Japanese script essay for my Japanese class; I won't have to use the l key (the most stubborn key on the board right now). Can I pop out the keys and clean them that way or do I have to unscrew the keyboard with the screws it is attached with at the bottom. Any and all help is appreciated. Thank you.

How do I stop the creation of the "Lenovo" folder being created in my start menu every time I restart my system? I have my start menu orginized how I want it, its not the chaos must users have. I delete the folder every time, and it just comes back. Not a major issue but sure is annoying! Any suggestions or help will be appreacated.

Answer:Lenovo Y580 Creates "Lenovo" folder in start menu after every reboot.

A Lenovo folder on your start menu? Where exactly on the start menu  is it, and have you tried opening it? ?t may be an entry in the registry? Have you scanned your system recently? Please go here  http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/ and see if a scan will find malware. Checkmark all appropriate boxes and disable your antivirus just before you start the scan Please remember to turn it on again afterwards. You can also do a shot(quick) scan by going to Start>type mrt.exe into the RUN box, enter then choose Quick scan. Let us know the results,if it is malware the malware forum would be the place to go to, if not malware, then we can take it from there.

Answer:Upgrading Lenovo Y470 with Lenovo Y580

In my opinion, the only possible/realistic way is to sell the y470 and add a few bucks and buy the y580(that's what I will do when y580 comes out).

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with HDMI port is not working in your Lenovo Y580 laptop.

If the port is broken then it might be the hardware issue. Check if the cable is seated if not try to reseat and check for the issue. Also check with different cables, also check if the port is damaged?

Question: Lenovo Y580 Bug

Hi, everybody! I just bought a new Lenovo Y580 laptop off the Lenovo website. It was shipped to my house and there were no problems. I opened it up and everything was great! However, when I used the NVIDIA GTX 660m graphics card to play a game, I got small weird red/blue/green pixel flashes and eventually the game I would play would crash. I next got a message saying, "Display Driver NVIDIA Windows Kernal Mode Driver, Version 295.55 stopped responding and has successfully recovered." This happens everytime I use the NVIDIA graphics and its really irritating me. The HD Intel 4000 graphics works perfectly fine though. Please help me guys! Hi there Well it happend my hdd is dying got some phisical problems (as i travel quite often )so i need to look for a replacement and the thing is that i would like to put some vitality in this machine as well so curent hdd is :  Seagate ST1000LM024 HN-M101MBB And i would like to change it for something faster (SSD + HDD) or (SSHD) arround 1TB  So first option ssd + hd i have found some of those that may fit but im not quite sure how it will work so for ssd i found this: http://www.kingstonmemorycards.co.uk/kingston-240gb-ssdnow-v300-7mm-sata-3-iii-hard-disk-drive-hdd-b... or http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00A1ZTZNM/ref=s9_simh_gw_p147_d0_i3?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd... there is a difference in model and i saw a few complains about it so i dont know how would it work and if it would put my performance a bit up for an HDD i assume any 2.5 inch sata interface hdd will do ( question is 5400 or 7200? [or maybe someone have any ready solution for a hdd provided link to the product in UK would be great]) the other option is that SSHD http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00BSH3CCC?redirect=true&ref_=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza#Ask found something like that and to be honest im not sure if that would work at all with my good old y580. Well any information, advices would be very welcome thanks

Answer:Lenovo y580 hdd issue

Your currenty hard drive is a notebook hard drive using the Sata interface, so the options you linked should all work since it is all using the SATA interface. Now it's just up to you to prioritize speed vs. capacity. If you're looking for speed, go with an SSD, if you're looking for more space or just to save money, go with a SSHD.

I recently bought the Lenovo Y580 with the GTX 660M. Optimus at the moment is giving me problems. Basically some times it works and sometimes it doesn't. The GPU doesn't always engage when I enter a game. All the latest updates and drivers are installed(306.97). I have also tried the slightly older driver as well as the new Beta and same results. Running a game through the NVidia Control Panel/Manage 3D settings and choosing the .exe of a game to use the High Performance Nvidia CPU doesn't work. Neither dose right clicking on a game and choosing the GPU. At the moment I am getting about 40fps on Alan Wake on Ultra, but on another day below 20. Sometimes reinstalling the driver works...but then stops working when using the laptop the next day. Then have to reinstall the driver, but again doesn't always work. What could be the problem? I have looked around and a lot of people with different tipes of laptops and GPUs have this problem.

Answer:Lenovo Y580 GPU problems

I think I found the problem. The lenovo power management was the culprit. Will be watching for a few days to see if this fixes everything...

Question: Lenovo Y580 Issues

Hello everyone,

I am having issues when gaming with the Lenovo Y580. I've seen a lot of gaming videos, benchmarks and temperatures given by other people so I suspect that 80-90C is a fine temperature, though my laptop has been doing perfectly fine before and I could play GRID2 on high settings. Now I had an issue where my laptop got very hot (especially HDD) and GRID2 was running at  25 FPS on Medium settings compared to 35~55 FPS on High settings.
I'm going to upload a screenshot to show you my temperatures in idle and while playing GRID2 for about 10 minutes.
The biggest issue is that the game lags. I've tried a lot of things and actually managed to fix it a little bit and it was playable in high settings but it seems to run fine before you start driving, when you go into a higher speed it starts lagging again or maybe it just lags every 10 seconds or so. I don't understand what the issue is and didn't have it before. Amazingly though, I tried running Max Payne 3 on high settings and I don't know at what FPS but the game was running smoothly. Here have a look at my temperatures.

Link to image 1

Link to image 2

Link to image 3

Are those temperatures normal? In the past what really worried me is the HDD hitting 69C (156F).

Answer:Lenovo Y580 Issues

Holy smokes, that's high! But there's nothing to do about it, the laptop has insufficient cooling and there's no way to play with the fan settings. Try to keep HDD temperatures under 53-55.CPU and GPU under 80. Buy a cooling pad, set your power setting to balanced and when you play games make sure you are somewhere which is cool.

I bought a lenovo y580 in september 2012 and I am pretty depressed with the battery and I bought it like 850$ plus taxes.I usually plug my computer so I decide to test the battery today and lower the brighness of the screen to 0 and turn off anything except wifi. I only have 1h15 of battery that it is way too low. i didn't do anything except looking at the % of the battery with a mouse.Either I buy a new battery that is more powerfull or change computer. I was in class one day and the class was a 3hour class and I need to close my computer due to a short battery life. 80% of the students in my class have a macbook and they can run like 7-8h without any problem. Mac is not for me and I am looking for a gaming laptop not too expensive like y580. well Let say under 1000$. I am playing game like starcraft 2, diablo 3, Lol and dota so I don't need a super powefull laptop. i just need a average laptop that can hold 4-5h and still can play those game on medium and high setting. My dream laptop is the new Razer blade 2014 which has a gtx 870, touchscreen, 6-7h of battery life when you don't play games but the price it is around 2700$ with the taxes.

Hi,

I own a Y580-M772CMH 15.6FHD/i7-3610QM/8G/ laptop with Windows 7 and a few weeks ago I used Ccleaner to clean the registry. Like the dumb stupid person I am I did not pay attention to what it was "cleaning".

Next time I booted up my Laptop it failed to start Windows and gave the following message:

Check cable connection!
PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM.
No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key

So next time I pressed F2 while booting to see:

Boot Device Priority
Internal HDD: SAMSUNG MZMPC064HBDR-000L1
SATA HDD: ST1000LM024 HN-M101MBB
SATA ODD: Optiarc BD ROM BC-5550H
Network Boot: Atheros Boot Agent

To me it looked like I still had both disks working so I put in a Windows ISO before boot to see if I could repair. The System Recovery Options screen showed me no known existing OS on the device.

So I powered down and used One Key Recovery which told me when I clicked to restore to factory conditions that the partition layout has changed.

Finally I used a bootable Partition Wizard and that showed me this:

Note the negative used value at disk 1.
To my layman's eyes it seems like the SSD and HDD, that are normally combined by a Lenovo software Raid are now separate. And something I deleted with Ccleaner by accident caused it (probably).

Main thing is, I actually don't know what the problem is and so don't know how to proceed.

I'm afraid my data is lost to me, which isn't a terrible loss, but am I correct in assuming... Read more

I've had my Lenovo Y580 for about two years now. A month ago I started having troubles with my labtop shutting down unexpectedly, but it would power on afterwards fine. Sometimes I would have to try multipe times of booting it up before it would finally let me back on, but it seemed fine after a crash. However, after the last time it crashed I can't get it to boot up at all. Ive tried replaced the hard drive, seeing as all this sounds like hard drive failure, but it hasn't solved the problem at all. When I press the power button, the fans come on and the keyboard lights up, but the harddrive won't power up and the screen stays blank. Ive tried hooking it up to a monitor seeing if its a screen failure but that didn't work either. Any advice or ideas would be fantastic. Thanks in advance. tl;dr when I press the power button, the keyboard lights up but the computer won't actually boot. It doesn't seem to be a hard drive or PSU issue.

Hello, I have recently bought a Lenovo Ideapad Y580 which has switchable graphics from INTEL HD 4000 to Nvidia GeForce GTX 660M. Now, the Nvidia has 2GB of memory, and somehow, when I run GTA IV it does show the 2gb of memory and uses them but still it uses the IntelHD 4000 GPU. I've tried updating my drivers and trying to set the game to run with Nvidia. The game is actually running fine with the IntelHD 4000 but it would still be nice if I could get it to run with the Nvidia. I haven't had any other problems like that, and I love the laptop, but I'm not sure if it is possible to fix, because I've already read that people aren't sure if GTA IV works with switchable graphics though nobody is sure of it.

I ordered my laptop on September 21st, and on the date of the order, I remember clearly that the laptop came with a 32GB SSD. When I checked the website the week after my order, the specifications have been changed and the 32GB SSD wasn't included with the laptop anymore. But I ordered the product when it had the spec(32GB SSD) so I thought I would be getting it. I received my laptop two days ago, on October 22nd (it took over a month), and it did NOT include the 32GB SSD. So I contacted the lenovo support first by online chat, and the online representative put me on hold and did not talk for over 2 hours eve though I asked, "hello?" "are you still here?"; I exited out of the chat. I called the Lenovo Customer Support and different representatives told me to call different numbers, which basically directed me to the same (wrong) departments. Finally, today I was able to contact someone who was able to address my issue of not receiving the 32GB SSD. However, she said that she checked with some team (that I don't remember), and that the laptop does not include the SSD. And without a valid proof of the specs of my laptop, she cannot help me in any way. I told her that none of my emails included the specs of my laptop; it only included the model number, which brings me to the website with the updated specs. Which means, that she was asking for something that cannot be proved. She said she cannot help me in any way. So I asked her about returning the product, and sh... Read more

Answer:dissapointed with lenovo Y580

They don't tell you the specs but they mention the model number such as 20993NU. Each model has its own set specs, you can't configure them your own way. Go look at your initial order email and see if they had a model number. If you Google that model number, yout will notice they all have the same specs, so in your case no ssd.

Hello, My Y580 is less than a year old and still under warranty. It has been working great this whole time, but recently I shut the computer down and then when I tried to turn it back on it wouldn't turn on. The keyboard backlight comes on, but I don't hear the fans spinning and the screen is blank. I have tried taking the battery out and holding down the power button for 2 minutes and then attempting to turn it on using ac power only and it won't turn on. I've also attempted to connect an external monitor and nothing there either. The machine is completely unresponsive except for the keyboard light coming on and the cd drive making a noise like it is initializing. I have tried to turn it on and off repeatedly and it is the same problem everytime. Not sure what else to try. Any idea what might be going on? Lenovo Y580Core i7 and GTX660M

Answer:Lenovo Y580 Won't Turn On

My Y580 goes through a cycle of auto-on/crash to the point where it can't be booted anymore. This happens when its solely on battery(no DC power). But its been a long time that I've encounterd this as my 'fix' was to keep the laptop plugged in always or take out the battery when theres no power.I thought if the lid was shut, the auto power-on/shut cycle won't happen, and gave it a try. After ~2days it wouldn't power on! I tried taking out the HDD & powering on.Previously a msg: "No bootable Device" would appear, this time nothing showed! I came to this forum, did the 35seconds thing, nothing happened! I panicked, mulling servicing. In final desperation, I increased the 30 seconds to  > 1 minute. It worked! hopefully things would be smooth from now.

Hello, As stated in the title, I have a Lenovo IdeaPad y580. I purchased it approximately three-and-a-half years ago, and only now is it really beginning to chug durings its processes. Point is, I want it to last perhaps another half year or so while I finish saving up for another computer. As a gamer, I'm fine with the limitations of the GPU, but sometimes my laptop legitimately has issues processing stuff, such as loading Google Chrome properly. I know enough about Windows to clean out viral matter and uninstall programs that I don't use that are running in the back. But does anyone have any tips or tricks to make this hunk of junk last maybe six more months before it becomes unusable?TL;DR I need to make my laptop run at least a reasonably sub-average to average level for six more months. Any tips are appreciated.

I'm thinking about changing the standard HDD 5400 rpm for a SSD drive.
I've decided to buy a Samsung 840 pro 128gb and keep the only HDD as external drive.
The thing is that under the laptop i have some seal which i dont know if i can cut.

I dont want to lose the guarantee, as ive read a bit i can change the HDD without losing it but i just wanted to be sure, im attaching the photo of the back of laptop with the seal(in the red circle, it might be from the seller but better to be sure ).

Answer:Lenovo y580 changing HDD to SSD

Siema! 1. You can replace your DVD drive with a caddy for second hard drive. Nowadays you won't use it much anyway.2. Why don't you buy a mSATA SSD? This way you can use both HDD and SSD. I currently have mSATA SSD and 2 HDDs in my Y580  Regarding this sticker it looks like retailers sticker... It's kinda sick the way they put it. It's as if somebody would put a sticker on a bonnet of a new car you just bought. Anway, it doesn't seem like a seal so my opinion is that you're safe to remove or break it. I didn't have any stickers in that place.

Hi, i have recently played gta v and my screen just froze. The game was still running i could hear it. I restarted my laptop and after that i could not lounch gta v, and rapid boot and rapid storage didnt work any more. Tried everything i could find online and nothing worked. So i decided to reinstall my windows. Did that but i still cant get rapid boot to work and rapid storage is working and then not. I cant set bios as explained in Lenovo support to install rapid boot bec i have 2.7 bios and dont have all the options avalaible. I can play gta. I have 60 gb sata drive, checked it for issues, nothing found, says all ok, even when rapid storage starts it says its working ok. And now every time i start windows(i have win 7) i get error and i have to set sata as defult drive, cant set it permanent bec i have that windows boot something. This laptop had win 7 preinstalled so is it possible that that win was set so all these features would work. And also i cant get the right keyboard layout, tried all, but i cant find the one where @ is on number 2 and not bye the enter button bec thats where it is on my keyboard. I would realy like to have acces to full settings in bios so if you could let me now is ther an update to this bios or any other way to get full settings avalaible. Thanks

Hello,

Unfortunately my laptop stopped working a couple of weeks back. After having it checked at a computer shop, it appears that I have to replace the motherboard. After searching online, however, it seems that there are a few motherboards available.

Details on my laptop: (Y580, Purchased December 2012)

Not sure if it helps, but these two numbers were also on the back:

If anyone with any experience could tell me if the motherboards from either of the following two websites work, it would be greatly appreciated. If neither are compatible, could you direct me to a page where I could find the proper motherboard? I just purchased a Lenovo Ideapad Y580 laptop, and I am not sure how to optimize the laptop to be able to play games using the full capacity of the laptop. I notice that when I have the laptop charged, games like Borderlands 2 play perfectly at 1920x1080, but when the charge is unplugged frame rates start going all over the place. Could someone help me fix this.

Answer:Lenovo Y580 Troubleshoot

hi i8yourfriend,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Your issue maybe similar to this and  this thread.

When you plug-in the computer to an AC power, the PC gets all the power that it needs to run the CPU, GPU, HDD, LCD, Memory, and other peripherals to its maximum performance.

The minute you unplug the AC adapter, all the power will automatically route to the 6-cell, 72Wh Lithium Ion battery. This power source is not enough especially If you have a dual GPU like the Intel HD Graphics 4000 + NVIDIA GeForce« GTX 660M. The GTX 660m alone uses 50W (source here) on stock clock speed and it still need to power the other PC components and peripherals.

To ensure maximum performance when playing  games or running any graphics extensive application,  the computer must be plugged-in all the time to get adequate power.

Hope this helps.

Answer:Lenovo y580 HELP for drivers

Hi, witboy007

I found the driver matrix for your system on Lenovo's site, which can be seen here. This page lists all the drivers that are available for your system. It is similar to the one on Lenovo's home page, but this can be filtered by device type and operating system. Try downloading and installing them from here, beginning with BIOS version 40 and see how it goes.

Best of luck,Adam

My Lenovo Y580 seems to have a problem starting up. I'm not sure what the cause of the problem is but I tried using the NOVO button for the system recovery. After attempting this, a black screen appeared saying: "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem: 1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next."3. Click the "Repair your computer." If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance. Status: 0xc000000e Info: An unexpected error has occured" After seeing this screen, my laptop shut off on its own. Unfortunately, I do not have the disc nor do I know the cause of this problem.

Question: Lenovo Y580 issues

Hello,I just got a brand new Lenovo Y580 with the 1080p screen. It's been 10 days since I got it.I noticed that I have a dead pixel right in the center of the screen. What are my options for an exchange or a return? Also, my keyboard rattles when I press keys on the left hand side of the keyboard. Is that expected. There is no issues like that when hitting the keys on the right side of the keyboard? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Lenovo Y580 issues

Lenovo is extremely poor in support. I'd return it. Its not worth the frustration of dealing with their support. I don't care what sale price you got it for, I know now its just not worth it. Then again, seems lenovo loves to hold onto refund money for weeks or months.

Recently, I got a replacement Y580 and I found the web camera is much clear than the old one.I went to device manager and find the old one is Azure with Realtek driver 6.2.8400 dated 9/28/2012,while the new one is Vimicro with it's own driver 13.12.824 dated 8/24/2012. My defective old one was manufactured on 121206 and my replacement is 130105...without thatreplacement, I have no way to find that the webcam can have so big difference. When I have the old one, I compared skype self image with my iPad 4 and thought the quality of thewebcam is low...now I know, with the same specification, the part quality can have so much difference the old one is blur and redish and new one is white, sharp and clean, almost iPad front camera quality.I post here just want to know whether they do change the parts with same model/specification over time.Thanks.

Answer:Y580 Lenovo EasyCamera

hi ExperienceY580,

Welcome to the Lenovo Community.

The Lenovo Y580 comes with a HD720p Camera on top of screen with a 1.0-megapixel fixed focus LED indicator. The old defective one that you had probably have a bad camera lens that's why the quality is poor. Over time OEMs  update their spare parts list if they found issue or possible design flaw on a certain unit or part (in your case, the camera). This is usually done per batch (either montly or weekly) - after they find the defect, they will re-rewrite the design with a new part and will ship another batch with the "fixed" part / unit.

Hope this helps.

Hi, recently I bought a lenovo y580 laptop. I purchased a version with core i7, gtx660M, 8GB RAM and 1TB HDD. So there┤s no SSD in my laptop. And I was thinking theoretically, when there are versions of y580 with HDD + SSD configuration available, as well, is my y580 with just HDD exactly the same inside as HDD + SSD versions are ? Because when there are versions of this laptop available with 2 drive solution, do you think it┤s possible to add an SSD to my laptop that doesn┤t contain it ?  I mean, I would place it exactly on the place where SSD lies in SSD versions of y580. And then I would use SSD for system and HDD for data. I don┤t know whether this is possible, so I need your help. Thank you

Hello and welcome,

According to your link, that's a Y580 2151-29U.  Everyone else selling on the web thinks a 2151-29U is a Z580.   And selling fo less.  Odd.

The Lenovo sales site has a couple of Y580 machines with 1920x1080 screens.  209945U @ $999 and 20994HU @ $1099.  The latter one has an mSATA SSD cache drive and 1TB HDD.  I'm looking at that one ATM for my kid.  Looks pretty good.

My brand new y580 worked for about a day, and after putting it into hibernate mode, has no monitor display.  I am able to use it with an external monitor,  and the backlight lights up on the laptop screen, but I can't get any picture on it. I have tried rebooting several times, including removing the battery and booting on AC power.  I have also made sure that it was set to display on the laptop monitor using Fn+f3.  Anybody have any other suggestions?  I don't  really want to have to send it back to manufacturer to wait a month (again) for my computer unless that is the only option.

Answer:Lenovo y580 no display

My laptop had a screwy screen also, there was picture but it was really screwed up and it worked fine with an external monitor

After seeing the attention and following the Lenovo Y480 received I couldn't resist getting the larger Y580 to see how it compares, here's my first look at that: http://www.laptopreviews.com/lenovo-ideapad-y580-first-thoughts-review-2012-06 For those that don't want to click over to see the review, the meat of the first look review is quoted below: The Lenovo IdeaPad Y580 just arrived to us today so we wanted to get some of our first thoughts out since there?s a lot of interest in this particular model due to its budget friendly price for a gaming laptop.  The Y580 we have in for review features an Intel Core i7-3610QM Quad Core processor, powerful Nvidia GTX 660M graphics, 8GB of RAM and large 1TB hard drive.  Believe it or not, the cost for all that was only $889 after discounts on Lenovo.com, an incredible price.   To keep costs down we configured just the 1366 x 768 resolution HD screen instead of the Full HD 1920 x 1080 screen, that higher resolution screen will be very appealing to some but it does boost the cost by around $200.  Since games perform better in terms of fps (frames per second) on a lower resolution 1366 x 768 screen some may be happy with just the base level and savings it bags.  First off, let?s take a look at a video we shot of the Y580 giving a tour around the laptop and some discussion of the design and features: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-OZcJnOQsSo&feature=relmfu Lenovo Y5... I have the icon for Windows 10, and when I open it up it says "Windows 10 is validating for your PC." Does anybody have this problem too? Has anybody gotten Windows 10 on their y580?

Answer:Lenovo Y580/Windows 10

The message "Windows 10 is validating for your PC" is not a problem. It is merely stating that it is testing your unit whether your unit is good or not for Win 10.

I recently sent in my lenovo y580 to get repaired for the heat sync problem (turned of and wouldn't turn back on.) When i try to play games such as skyrim my laptop will shut off without warning randomly and i have to turn it on. (randomly as in within 2min of playing) please let me know if i need a replacement.

Answer:Lenovo y580 problem

This sounds pretty much like your cooling system is not working well. I my self have a y580 and it perform well and cool down very quickly and it also does not get heat up very much when I play games. If they can get it repaired for you that would be fine but go for a replacement if you can

Hi guys. I`ve got Ideapad y580 and the bios on it is locked. When I turn the computer on it always asks me for SYSTEM PASSWORD. I don`t know it because the laptop was a present from my parents and they bought it from another man as I know. I can`t boot from usb or cd and I removed the CMOS battery but with no effect. Please help guys, I really don`t know what to do.

Answer:Lenovo Y580 Locked Bios

Welcome to the forum ! Removing the CMOS battery only works with desktops, laptops are a little more secure.  Since laptops are frequently stolen, discussions related to circumventing system passwords are prohibited in this forum.   You're best option would be for your parents to contact the person they got the laptop from and see if he remembers the password.

Well, it is a new computer. I was getting to install all the drivers and such, but when I installed WLAN drivers, which I wasn't even sure are the right ones as they've put four different of them on the CD, I wasn't able to find any available networks even though there should be like 15 of them. Are there any other drivers to solve this problem or some other way I haven't thought of? Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer:Low or none signal on Lenovo Y580 WiFi

Hi

Sorry to hear about the issues you?re facing.

Please try installing the Power Management drivers , restart the system , Ensure the Wifi Master switch is On .   Under Windows Press FN + F5 , The Wifi / Bluethooth status should be ON

Now check if the drivers are installed under device manger and wlan is connecting to the network

Since your CD has 4 different drivers , Please share the Hardware ID which can be found under device  properties > details . So we can identify which device is installed and we can find the correct drivers

Hi Guys, I am having an issue with my Lenovo Y580 Graphics card! Here's how all the trouble began...I was fiddling around in my main drive's program files (86) folder. I was trying to free up some space on my tiny 32GB SSD Hard drive.I erased some Nvidia files from the Nvidia folder. While trying to reinstall the latest drivers from the Nvidia Website, the screen turns black right in the middle of the installation!Thinking that this was a normal black out for Nvidia driver installation, It just stayed black! I waited for about 5 to 10 minutes before I did a Hard reboot.Upon doing so I landed on the desktop again to reinstall the latest driver (331.82) and It does it's thing. It tells me to restart, I restart. Now, when I reach the windows logo sign, it dances for a bit, then stops all of a sudden: A Freeze! I repeat the process and its the same over and over. I get into safe mode, and remove the drivers with a Display Driver Uninstaller software. I try to reinstall the drivers same thing happens. When I try to reinstall the latest drivers from the Lenovo website, this time I get a Blue Screen!! So I've had my Y580 for 2 and a half months now, and so far it has been great, but lately I've been experiencing problems. Most notable is the fact that now when I try to open a game, nothing happens. This happens for both steam and non steam games. For steam, when I open a game, it says I'm in game for about 3 seconds, then says I am no longer in game, and nothing happens on my screen. Any one else experiencing similar problems, or have a solution?

Answer:Lenovo Y580 won't start games?

Answer:Lenovo y580 windows problem

AFAIK there are no more copies of Win 8 available. So you only have Win 8.1 as an option. Google Microsoft Media Creation Tool and use it to download a free copy of Win 8.1 to be place either in a pendrive or DVD. Don't select the Pro version since it will require the product key. You product key is embedded in the bios and this will be automatically detected by the Win 8.1 that you downloaded.

I saw that we have the mSata slot and is empty for my Y580. If i buy a SSD mSata drive that run at 6G/S.  Will it work?i plan to buy a mSata drive with 6G/s to install the window 8 in it. The existing 2.5" Sata drive will used for data storage. Will this work? how to setup?

Answer:Lenovo Y580, can mSata run 6G/s SSD drive?

I never got my windows 8 y580 to boot from msata. I gave up. Older windows 7 y580 had no trouble with making their msata bootable. I know of a person with the same model as my y580 windows 8 and he got it to boot off of his msata drive but boot manager was actually on the HDD so he wasn't truely booting off of the msata. I couldn't even get that to work. My msata was an m4 256gb and it had no problems formatting and storing files, it just wouldn't boot an OS.

Hi,

I need some help with bsods on Windows 8.1 OS. I'm not sure but probably there is my fault that this happens. I have Lenovo Y580 and a few months ago I updated my bios to version 5DCN40WW(v2.07), i downloaded it from Lenovo support website (in this time i got windows 7), then i decide to run Windows 8, but this bios was purposed for Windows 7 and now i cant find 'actualization' to my old bios wich was purposeed to Windows 8, I'm looking for version 5DCN89WW of bios to this Lenovo. Now I have 2-3 bsods a day, even after format, I've updated my drivers using SlimDrivers and downloaded actual drivers from Intel website,on the Intel website I had an information that product has been detected as Kontroler Qualcomm Atheros AR8161 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.30) but this device is unknown or unsupported (current driver:2.1.0.16) and same thing with Audio Driver for Intel Desktop Board, product detected: Sound Bluetooth (current driver: 12.0.0.2951).

I did memtest86:

And this is scr from Crystal Disk Info:

Answer:random BSODs lenovo y580 win 8.1

Sorry for the delay in responding. There just aren't that many people who do BSOD analysis, so at times we get a bit overwhelmed!

AFAIK, you have the latest BIOS for your system.
Here's a link to it: BIOS Update for Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit) - IdeaPad Y480, Y580

Out of 17 memory dumps there were 7 different BSOD error codes. The differing error codes are usually symptomatic of a lower level problem within the system. They are usually caused by one of these things:
- borked (broken) hardware (several different procedures used to isolate the problem device)
- BIOS issues (check for updates at the motherboard manufacturer's website)
- overclocking/overheating - You'll know if you're overclocking or not. If uncertain we can suggest things to check.
- compatibility issues (3rd party hardware/drivers)
- low-level driver problems
- or even malware (scanned for when we ask for hardware diagnostics from Initial Hardware Diagnostics or Hardware Diagnostics ).

You can get a head start on the hardware diagnostics if you'd like - they are located here: Hardware Diagnostics

Daemon Tools (and Alcohol % software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have seen dtsoftbus01.sys blamed on several occasions).

Please un-install the program, then use the following free tool to ensure that the troublesome sptd.sys driver is removed from your system (pick the 32 or 64 bit system depending on your sys... Read more

It only has 1 partition with all the data in it.I already backed up all my important data in an external disk. How do I repartition my hard drive so it uses all Lenovo's feature such as One Key Recovery and Windows 8 own back to fabric? From when can I download Windows 8?Where's the Windows 8 serial of my computer, I did not write it up before installing Windows 7.

So, over the weekend, my computer decided it did not want to boot. It kept looping through the auto repair screen, system restore didn't work, and it would not let me refresh or reset the computer. I tried a bunch of methods to get it to work, got fed up and followed this guide: http://www.jwgoerlich.us/blogengine/post/2009/11/05/Use-Diskpart-to-Create-and-Format-Partitions.asp... and I ended up deleting all of my partitions.

I didn't realize this was important until I reinstalled Windows 8 and tried to install Onekey recovery, which then proceeded to give me attitude.

I checked out my partitions :

and this is what it looks like. Am I good, or should I retry to install windows with better partitions? Also it always "repairs" some volume(I can't get the name, it goes by too fast) when I start up the computer. That's probably important to note.

Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks mates!

Hi! At the start I'll mention that I am an "IT guy" (actually IT student)  so I have some higher than basic knowledge about the stuff going on with my computers but now even I am lost... I will start from the very beggining of my troubles - that might be a long story!

So, one day (quite a bit ago) I was playing League of Legends with friends like I did for over a year after purchasing my Y580 and the in-game "bug splat" error occured. It is not something unusual, it happens to people a lot in this particular game so I was like "meh, again they f*** up something with the patch". Then the system notification told me that "driver stopped working but has recovered" or something like that, which was a first time for me. I googled the problem but before I could read anything the screen froze and I had a first BSOD since installing Windows 8 (and I have it for a year straight now). It was IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL pointing at nvlddmkm.sys, part of Nvidia drivers.

I started doing obvious things - ran Windows in safe mode, everything was working fine. Then I removed Nvidia drivers completely, including registry entries and stuff. System loded in normal mode and was working - previously the blue screen was appearing before my Windows 8 login page even loaded. I managed to play games on Intel HD GPU and do my usuall stuff without any problems - as expected to be honest.

I did a memtest back then, also did it few days ago for 6+ hours wi... Read more

Answer:BSOD with both GPUs on Lenovo Y580

Hi David

Since you are familiar with computers, i will cut the crap and go directly to the troubleshooting. Please follow the below steps.

1. First uninstall both "Intel" and "Nvidia" drivers completely from the system. Laptops require tweaked drivers  specifically created for them rather than generic ones. If the Nividia adapter is disabled via BIOS, please enable it.

2. Then uninstall "Intel Rapid Storage Technology" driver and "Intel Wireless LAN driver" completely. Current versions are not compatible with "Win 8.1".

HelloI am an owner of lenovo y580 about a half a year now and recently i started to have a problem with it. The laptop freezes every few minutes on almost everything i do, for example when i use my browser it randomly freezes for about 5-10 sec (no response) while still can do other things like activating process manager and other things. The thing changes once i start playing games, when almost every new action taken in the game causes it to freeze or even crash the game after few minutes of playing. Same thing happens while watching video on youtube or watching any videos on media player, the browser/media player freezes for about 5-10 sec while the sound still goes on and then jumps to the scene after these 10 sec. To the recent events, i had no problems with this laptop, everything started after one windows 8 update which caused my library files to delete everything from it, from that time the random freezes started, at first it was only browser related but then started freezing on every program i used. I really have no idea what can cause this kind of problems. I would appreciate any help or solutions on this problem. Thank you in advance (Sorry for my english im not a native speaker ^^')

Answer:Lenovo y580 randomly freezing

I don't know what might be the problem, but I have few ideas of what you could do to pinpoint what is wrong:1. In Nvidia control panel turn ->Desktop -> turn on " display GPU activity icon in notification area". If your computer starts acting up when your GPU is active (obviously it is in games), then it might mean your dedicated GPU is faulty. Alternatively you could turn it off in BIOS and see the problem is still present.2. Run memtest86 to check for possible problems with RAM.3. Leave task manager open all the time. Whenever your computer is starting to act up check if there's any process that's eating up all CPU, or any other suspicious activity.4. Try listening closely to your computer. Are there any strange clicks or hard drive spinning up when it freezes?5. Did you try making a recovery to a state from before Windows installed that update?

Please help I cannot find info on this ANYWHERE...here's my problem. I have a Lenovo Y580, with BIOS Version/Date LENOVO 5DCN90WW(V8.01), 10/11/2012. I see Windows 7 users got a BIOS update several months after...but not for Windows 8?? I am having some issues with games ( some freezing issues ) and also "no cable connection" issue upon starting the laptop, although that doesn't affect it booting up, but you see the message first. I want to update the BIOS to see if it fixes these issues. Only problem is, Lenovo hasn't provided a Windows 8 bios for this model. What gives? Support staff is never any help...It's the worst customer experience I've ever had. I was put through heck even trying to PURCHASE the laptop...now I'm considering returning it, even though it's past the 21 day grace period...I don't care. If a BIOS update isn't provided as an update for a Lenovo Y580, I can't imagine I would be forced to keep the laptop if I can't upgrade it to perform properly. Help is appreciated.

Please help? I am not the only one with this question. I really don't want to have to take the laptop back as I like it but if it cannot fit my needs due to lack of a BIOS update then I don't know what to do.

I have just got a new Y580 lappy. Every thing is working fine. Except one problem, when I hook up HDMI cable to TV, it doesn't detect the TV. I've tried with another lappy, HDMI and TV works fine. Means the problem lies with the laptop. No matter what, there is no HDMI output. According to Lenovo Customer Service, I am to try wth OEM graphic driver, so I downloaded and installed the first driver ( Intel HD graphics ). After driver installation, prior restarting the laptop, I manage to detect my TV in Display control panel. However, when I use "switch to projector" display, there is still no display on the TV. After a restart, the HDMI doesn't even detect my TV anymore. What is the problem? Purely Driver? Or Hardware? If it is hardware, I would have to send it in for warranty claim. Laptop is currently 2 days old. Haha.

Answer:Lenovo Y580 HDMI issue

hi shinkosensei,

Welcome to the Lenovo Community.

Try the following:
1. Boot into the BIOs by pressing F2 (Fn+F2 on some cases)
2. When you're in, go to the Configuration Tab and change Graphic Device to Discrete Graphics (see spoiler for image - credits goes to this link)
 Spoiler (Highlight to read)
3. Press F10 to save and exit BIOS.
4. Make sure your TV is set to HDMI mode and connect the HDMI cable to the PC and into the TV.
5. Press the  key+P or Fn+F3 to extend / clone the display.

The reason you made this change is because this computer have dual-graphics cards and in the setting above, you told the computer to use the discrete graphics (this is to ensure that the OS will re-route the video source on 1 videocard only).

If this doesn't work, the HDMI port might be faulty and I recommend you contact Lenovo for service. Support phone list here.

Hope this helps.

so I went to log in to my laptop (A Lenovo y580 if that matters). I went to wake it from sleep and it seemed like it was acting a little funky. By that I mean that it wouldn't load the internet, alot of my mouse-clicks were not registering either. I couldn't bring it to the windows menu so I forced a restart. I spent forever on the loading screen and am getting a message that the PC cannot load, and that it was going to collect data, and it resets itself again. Same thing. Except this time my screen says its Preparing Automatic Repair. I then go to a screen asking my keyboard layout. Then to a screen where I can troubleshoot or shut down. On troubleshoot I have options to refresh PC, Reset PC, or Advanced options. The Refresh screen states that the drive where windows in installed is locked, and to unlock the drive and try again. I don't want to reset yet because I'll lose all my files. I go to advanced options, which has the option to system restore, but then get an error message that says "To use system restore you must specify which windows installation to restore. Hello, I have a problem with my lenovo y580. Every time I plug it, the power bouton and the battery indicator are flashing red and my computer isn't charging. I changed the battery because I thought it was the problem, but it didn't work. Is this flashing supposed to mean somthing precise ? Is it the charger or even the power jack ?  I looked it up but couldn't find anything. Thanks,

Ok so here is the deal, I own a Y580-M772CMH 15.6FHD/i7-3610QM/8G/ laptop with Windows 7 and a few weeks ago I used Ccleaner to clean the registry and like the dumb stupid person I am did not pay attention to what it was "cleaning".Next time I booted up my Laptop it failed to start Windows and gave the following message: Check cable connection!PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM.No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key So next time I pressed F2 while booting to see: Boot Device PriorityInternal HDD: SAMSUNG MZMPC064HBDR-000L1SATA HDD: ST1000LM024 HN-M101MBBSATA ODD: Optiarc BD ROM BC-5550HNetwork Boot: Atheros Boot Agent To me it looked like I still had both disks working so I put in a Windows ISO before boot to see if I could repair. The following System Recovery Options screen showed me no OS existing. So I powered down and used One Key Recovery which told me when I said to restore to factory conditions that the partition layout has changed. Finally I used a bootable Partition Wizard and that showed me this: ? To my layman's eyes it seems like the SSD and HDD that are normally combined by a Lenovo software Raid are now separate? Something I deleted with Ccleaner by accident that caused it (probably)? Main thing is, I actually don't know what the problem is and so don't know how to proceed. Can I even save my data (I'm afraid not)? I've been linked this, which would solve it but I was hoping a compl... Read more

I currently have a Lenovo Y580 Laptop computer with a dvd burner optical drive. I am wanting a blu ray burner where I can watch iblu-ray movies, and occasionally burn files to a Blu ray disk. I have found this drive, but I'm not sure whether it is compatible. It appears there are several different sizes for optical drives. Any idea whether this will physically fit in my laptop? Thanks for your assistance.

Answer:Blu Ray Burner for Lenovo Y580 Laptop

Unless it is designed for that machine, and it states that it will work, I doubt very much that you can use it. Laptops, in particular, are very proprietary in hardware, and though some few standard pieces may be interchangeable, for the most part, even the connections for optical drives are often the company's own. You'll need to get a drive from the manufacturer or one that they say will work. (Or advice from someone who has actually gotten one to fit.)

Alternatively, you could look into an external case with a USB connection for a BluRay drive. Since most people rarely use them, except for data storage (double-sided ones can hold 50 GB's which makes a great storage medium) or videos, and they are expensive, it may be best to buy just one that can be used on all machines and keep for future ones. I have found no problems with speed playing BluRay over a USB 2.0 connection (In the worst case, the contents could be copied to your hard drive before playing, anyway, though I have never had to do that). And, of course, since a drive that supports all optical media for both reading and burning is only slightly more expensive than those that support fewer types, it is worth the money to get a good drive. Just another idea...............

Hello everyone, I'm getting my first Laptop after many years of being a Desktop user and I have some question on how to do things here.First I'm getting a Lenovo Y580, model #59359513, which only comes with a 1TB 5400 rpm hard drive, there is no msata SSD but I believe I have the option to install one later.Right now I'm planning in adding a Samsung 840 Pro link from newegg.com, where the hard drive is, and get a hard drive caddy for the hard drive to have it as storage. Now my questions are: 1. How is the connectors to install a SSD on a laptop, is it just plug and go, is it simple as removing the hard drive and adding the SSD to it or do I have to get adapter of some kind? If I do Please let me know which one. 2. I have been reading and I see lots of people that are using caddy, is adding the SSD to the caddy not the other way around like I want to do it, is there a reason to it? 3. Some people are complaining about heat issues and saying that using it with a SSD + caddy will help to solve that, but keeping the hard drive generate heat the same way, doesn't it? 4. Please suggest me a good caddy for the Y580, I dont know which one to buy yet. 5. If I have the option to add a msata SSD later, I read somewhere that I might have to get some screws to it, does anyone knows anything about it? Thank you.

Answer:Lenovo Y580 + SSD + Caddy, questions.

1. SSD has SATA interface connector like your HD; so replace and install OS.  No adapter needed.2. Caddy is needed if you want to use optical drive space as space to hold the SSD/HD inside laptop.  -- I'm understanding your getting a hard drive caddy is to have it as external enclosure, right?  If external enclosure is not what you had in mind, then you do need a optical drive caddy to hold the HD as extra storage and lose the optical drive.3. screw holding the mSATA is standard like the rest, so it shouldn't be too hard to get one - if not, scavenge from one of the screw holding the HD (haven't checked this myself).

Hi all, First of all I like to say in advance that I'm not a native english speaker, so bear with me .(Some terms might be a bit off since my windows is installed with a different language). So the problem, I start my Lenovo Ideapad Y580 laptop, it goes past the bootscreen and then I get a Windows error recovery screen with the options, launch startup repair (recommended) or start windows normally.Well starting windows normally I get the screen with "Starting windows" but without the windows logo, to windows is loading files to a old school windows loading bar which brings me to.. a black screen.Same goes for the launch startup repair. It does not do anything once I get at the black screen. (I waited 10 min atleast) I try a few startups while I search for an answer online, then suddenly i get to sytem recovery options, system restore gives me the error code 0x80070002.I choose startup repair it does it thing and says it has to reboot. Well alright i thought, I might get off the hook, no such luck unfortunaly. The following restart I get this beauty For Atheros PCIE Ethernet Controller v2.1.1.1(12/23/11) Check cable connection!PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM.No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press key I try selecting another drive via F12, the boot device selection menu, same error. And thats where I am now, with no idea what to do next. Can somebody please help me?

I keep setting One Key Theather to "Movie", but my screen settings, like contrast, switch back to "Normal" just a moment after, for example, opening a full screen application. This issue appeared after I reinstalled my Windows 7 on my laptop. Any solutions for that?

Good afternoon all! Before I start, I just want to say how much I love Lenovo laptops. I've had the Ideapad Y330, Thinkpad SL410 and now the Lenovo Ideapad Y580. I've never exprienced any problem with them except for the overheating issues which is usually caused by dust in the fan and heatsink. In between all the Lenovos I had a HP G42 and Dell Latitude and both of them left a pretty deep hole in my pocket in terms of repairs so I sold them both and got this Lenovo Ideapad Y580 instead and I LOVE IT.  Now moving on to my question, I am seeking on upgrading the following on my Lenovo Ideapad Y580. 1. Memory - Mine currently has the 8GB DDR3 1600mhz and I want to upgrade to 16GB DDR3 1600mhz and I have only 2 choices, either I get the Corsair Vengeance 16GB 2x8GB DDR3 1600mhz SODIMM or the cheaper G.Skill 2x8GB DDR3 1600mhz SODIMM. Anyone who has upgraded to any of these? The reason why I need this upgrade badly is because I use my laptop mainly for video (Adobe Premiere, AE, etc). Thoughts or suggestions?  2. Hard Drive - I'm looking into purchasing an Intel 330 SSD 240GB for my laptop. My main question is, does the Lenovo Y580 have the mSATA slot of mSATA SSDs so that I can keep my 1TB Hard Drive while having my whole system run on msata SSD?  3 Warranty - Okay. I've learned so much (too much actually) from the past and I am serious about getting a 3 year extended or accidental damage warranty. I've called up Lenovo already regarding this and all the... I am also looking for similar options ! From what i gather about the memory is that the system does not support more than 8 GB. "From the crucial website:Memory Type: DDR3 PC3-12800, DDR3 (non-ECC)Maximum Memory: 8GBSlots: 2Each memory slot can hold DDR3 PC3-12800 with a maximum of 4GB per slot.*"Would be glad to know if there are options to upgrade to 16GB

Hi,I have a problem with removing Camera drivers on my Y580.When I remove EasyCamera drivers it shows that uninstall was succesful, but next time I start or restart my system, the **bleep** drivers are still working and are enabled. How is this possible when I removed it?

Answer:How to delete Lenovo EasyCamera on Y580

Hi

Welcome in Lenovo Forums

Please make sure that once you right click on the camera driver to press Uninstall knowing that you will be facing a massage asking if you want to delete the driver or not , so you need to press yes to delete it

Also there is another way and i see that it's better for you which is disabling the camera its self as long you don't want to use it

Let me know

Thanks
Alaa

The Y580 is awesome, if I have one critic though of the laptop it is the HDD.The space of one 1TB is more than enough but realy seems to hold it back. The Y580 scores 9,305 on 3D mark Vantage while the HP dv6 scores 10,108 with a lower end GPU(GT 650M). The HP has the same CPU and RAM but a 7200RPM HDD. Does the HDD in the HP really make that much difference? Or is it beating the Lenovo in some other way? Maybe drivers...I dont know. The GTX 660m should easily beat the GT 650m... Links to above data.http://www.laptopreviews.com/lenovo-ideapad-y580-first-thoughts-review-2012-06http://www.laptopreviews.com/hp-pavilion-dv6t7000-quad-edition-review-2012-05

Answer:Lenovo Y580 3DMark Vantage

Not all Y580's are the same. I don't know how much difference it makes myself, but that is the thought that promted me to get the 500GB 7200 rpm HD. Speed more than size was right for me. The SSD combined with the slower HD in another model is another way to go, but didn't make sense for me since I didn't need that much space anyway, and I wanted to keep the price under $1000 (at the time of the sale).

Hi there, i am an owner of a Lenovo Y580. QM3630, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD, GTX660 Video. Since a while I am observing that my idle temperatures are pretty high. I am monitoring them with RealTemp - a techpowerup application. While load of CPU < 3 and CPU clock ~ 1GHz the temperatures are about 48-55(Celsius). I am an architecture student and I am using my laptop mainly for CAD applications as well as rendering of images (V-Ray engine). I sometimes have to render hours long, but I suppose that could not damage neither the CPU nor the entire machine since I am always using my cooling pad - Cooler Master X3. I am in possession of this laptop since 09/2012 this means that I have 3-4 months up to the warranty end, but I am not sure if this is a real problem or those are the temperatures the laptop shall be running on. I am also not sure if the hardware warranty is 1 or 2 years and if it is going to cover this damage(if there is a faulty part or something)... So, I am begging you for explanations to my dilemmas. Nikolai

Hi I'm using my machine since 2012 but the original batter with 6cells is already dead.I mean the battery decreases to 0 % immediately from 65%.Now I've decided to buy new battery but this time I'd like to buy a more powerful battery.http://www.amazon.comandhttp://www.aliexpress.comI'm gana ask are these two batteries compatible with Y580?Do you suggest any other battery to keep at least 7 hours in real?

Answer:Lenovo Y580 with 12 or 9 Cell Battery

I have the one from Amazon and along with the original 6-cell battery, I can get through a whole day of meetings. This 9 cell battery gives me close to 6 hours depending on whether I have the wifi on. This is on a Z585 with the A10-4600m processor.
