Lenovo Y500 WiFi Centrino N2230 dropping connections issue

Question: Lenovo Y500 WiFi Centrino N2230 dropping connections issue

Hey guys,

I just got the Lenovo Y500 a few months ago and it came with the Intel Centrino Wireless N-2230.

The WiFi on this laptop kept on disconnecting after a while of use, at first I thought it was the laptop's problem but after I got a replacement because of a depixel on my screen the problem still occurs - the WiFi is unstable sometimes and the connection just disappears. I tried this with other Wifi connections at my University and home and friend's house but it still kept on disconnecting after a while.

Can anyone please give me a solution to this problem? I've already downloaded and installed the latest drivers.

Symptoms of this problem:
1. Disconnects after a while, it shows network available but I cannot connect to them
2. Sometimes, it doesn't show any network (i.e all my WiFi connections are not visible)
3. I cannot restart my WiFi because I go into Windows 8 "Change pc settings" and it says I cannot turn off my WiFi

This problem is really bugging me because every time this happens I have to restart my laptop!

I would really appreciate your help!

Here's some screens of the problem:

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

There are many possibilities to your problem. To jumpstart, examine the settings of your wifi card (based on recommended setup) and the router's settings. They should match.

Hello! I just bought a Lenovo B580 59-339463 (i5 3210m Ivy Bridge)  laptop, installed Win7, installed all drivers on the dvd (including the 3 wlan drivers - intel/realte/broadcom - not sure this was a smart move) only to find that I am unable to connect usign the wifi. I've been browsing round the web for the past 2 hours, but nothing seemed to help.WiFi is turned on (in BIOS, in device manager, in adaptor settings in fn+f5) The WiFi connections just don't show up in the list of network connections When diagnosing the WiFI connection I receive a message informing me that the "Wireless adapter is experieincing problems" and then this message: "There might be a problem with the driver for the Wireless Network Connection adapter. Windows couldn't automatically bind the IP protocol stack to the network adapter." Intel ProSet/WiFi tools -> Diagnostics -> Hardware Test FAILED. The wireless adapter is disabled or uninstalled                                                                         Software Test PASSED Since i'm rather new at all this, never having owned a laptop before, I've completely ran out of ideas. So I turn to you, maybe you know what to make of all this. Thanks!

Apologies if this has been addressed before but my problem is pretty specific and I couldn't find any threads about it.  For a quick backgound, my OS is Windows 10 (was Windows 8 prior) and my network adapter is an Intel Centrino N-2230.  I have a Lenovo Y500 laptop and my internet has been having issues. For background, it was working fine until sometime early this year. I got an ethernet cable and mainly relied on that. Whenever I would unplug my ethernet cord, most of the time my internet wouldn't work - the open networks availble shown would just be empty even though all my other devices connected to the internet just fine. I ignored this and continued because I mainly only used it with ethernet anyways, and if I really needed to I could disable and reenable my network adapter to get the internet working (for like 30 seconds before it would often die again).  I'm back home from college now however, and I need a consistent internet. The problem I face now is that when my laptop isn't plugged in, I can't seem to use internet at all (I can do the disable and re-enable technique but it works for like 5 seconds before it stops working again). When my laptop is plugged in, it stays connected to the internet consistently, but the quality of the connection is really inconsistent. For games that I play, every 10 minutes I usually have around 3-4 instances where the ping goes from 20 to like 1000 for 10-15 seconds, sometimes even completely disconectin... Read more

Answer:Lenovo Y500 WiFi Adapter Issue

Try first downloading this into a flash drive: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/IdeaPad-Y-Series-laptops/IdeaPad-Y500-... Then, uninstall your old WLAN drivers. You won't be able to access internet after drivers are uninstalled, so use the file from the flash drive and install it onto your PC. A fresh driver install should do the trick. Hope it helps

i bought my computer at costco in japan and there is no serial number tag on the bottom, in the location indicated in the maintenance manual.
the model is envy dv7 with intel i5-3210M cpu @ 2.50ghz and 8.00gm ram, 64 bit
also, which of the adapters that you listed in this post is the one you recommend - i would hate to have the same problems as the 2230 upon replacement.

Okay so I've made the decision that I want to buy a new wireless card and physically replace my intel centrino n2230 on my windows 9.1 laptop This card has given me hell as long as I've had my laptop (which by the way is the HP Envy Dv 433ea - a seeming non existant laptop that I can't find support for anywhere on the internet)  Before anyone advises to update drivers or anything don't bother.  I have literally tried everything from the latest drivers to the oldest drivers and everything in between. The connection I get it always slow and will periodically drops disconnecting mefrom the internet - which I have concluded is the most frustrating thing I've ever had to deal with. So to the actual question. I've heard there are things such as bios restricions and there will obviously be size restrictions so I wanted to check with someone a little more experienced before I go out and buy a wirelss card that doesn't do the trick. So again I guess the question I'm asking is: What wireless card do I buy that will not cause any of the afformentioned problems that will fit in my laptops card slot and that will work with the bios? Thank you so much I know this was a long question but I have to stress how much this card has pissed me off I have been running around left right and center trying to get a fix but no avail - this is kind of my last resort.

Hi, While on my University's WIFI, my connection drops constantly, pretty much every 30seconds to 5 mins. However, I never have this problem at home. I checked the message boards here and saw advice to just update the driver (Intel Centrino 2230n, as stated in the subject), which did not help. The fact that it did not drop at home, but did at school lead me to think, its not the computer but the Intel Centrino adapter that is the issue. I then went to the Intel message board to see if anyone else was having this issue with the N2230 and, TONS of people have this problem. I pasted he link below for your reference. http://communities.intel.com/thread/38676?start=60&tstart=0 I want to know what action Lenovo is taking to remedy this situation. I just bought this laptop 2 weeks ago, which of course I now cannot return to Best Buy. It's probably not the computer's issue, so sending it back to Lenovo doesnt help. What is Lenovo doing about this issue with Intel? Is there any pressure on them for this. What are we supposed to do in the mean time? Any work arounds that will not void the warranty would be much appreciated. I'd really appreciate a quick response on this. Thank you!

Answer:Intel Centrino Wireless N2230 Connectivity Issues

You can try this:1. Boot in safe mode.2. Uninstall wifi driver from device manager. Be sure to check the box that says "delete ...".3. Reboot and let windws 8 install it's own wifi driver.4. Disable bluetooth5. Connect to internet by supplying the ssid and passphrase.Observed if problem still exist.

My problem is different from those who are experiencing internet connection difficulties in tablet mode.  I maintain a continuous and strong/full wifi signal, but am losing internet access intermittently.  It makes no difference whether the unit is used in laptop or tablet mode. If I reset the wireless adapter, I remain connected to the internet for anywhere from a few minutes up to an hour or so.  The wireless signal is always at full strength, and distance from the router makes no difference.  Occasionally internet access returns and then drops again, however, I generally have to run the troubleshooter to reset the connection.  Running the windows diagnostic/troubleshooter resets the adapter and returns the message: "the connection between your access point, router... and the Internet is broken" and "the default gateway is not available," but does temporarily resolve the issue.  We have two other laptops in the household that are not experiencing connection difficulties. So far I have reinstalled the drivers from the Lenovo site and have set the power options to maximum performance for the wireless adapter.  This is a brand-new unit in use only a few days and has had the problem since I unboxed it.

Answer:X220t Centrino Advanced-N strong wifi signal, intermittently dropping internet

Ok, so I attached a USB wireless adapter to see whether the internet still dropped or whether Centrino 6205 adapter was/is the problem and began downloading a large file.  I did not lose the internet access, however, I did get a long pause of several minutes during the download, but it resumed.  Signal issue?  or, are there other known wireless issues with this unit?

Before I begin: I know this issue is very common and there are a wealth of threads and advice on how to fix it. AFter having tried many combinations of potential fixes nothing has seemed to work. I'm just hoping someone out there might have alleviated their problem and could give me specific advice. My System:Lenovo Ideapad Y500w/ Intel Centrino N 2230 wireless card-----currently running the latest intel driver (15.10.3.2) [note: I have tried the windows driver with no success]Windows 8.1 My Issue:-Frequent, regular connection drops. The frequency of the connection drops does change when I tinker with the wireless card settings, my router settings, etc. But I have never achieved a fully stable connection in the several months I've owned this laptop. -Currently dropping connection every 4-6 minutes. It's been better than this (maybe 20-30 minutes) but since I've been tinkering it seems to have gotten worse. What I've Tried:-Numerous combinations of wireless card settings, none of which seemed to work, and some of which made the problem more severe (more frequent connection drops) -Disabling bluetooth adapter (did nothing) -Reverting to windows drivers (latest version, can't recall the #), also did nothing, actually made problem more severe.  What I'd Like to Know:-Is there anyway I could just replace the wireless card? My frustration with this issue is achieving new levels, and I'd really think starting fresh would be nice. However, I ha... Read more

Answer:Lenovo Y500 - Intel Centrino N - 2230 - Frequent Connection Drops

Hi, I've had the same problem with my 2230 card months ago to the point where I was desperate to find a fix, but since then I haven't had any connection drops after I tried this fix I found on the Intel forums: I kept reverting the driver version by uninstalling the current driver and restarting my PC to let it automatically install older drivers. I performed this operation until the driver version was 14.8.8.75 and the driver date was Dec. 5, 2011.Since then I've been able to watch streams or surf the Internet without any drops. This is the only thing that changed. . My dl and upload speeds and everything else are the same. Spoiler (Highlight to read) edit: y400 with windows 8 btw, not windows 8.1

Hello everyone, I had some trouble with my computer recently (HDD consistence error), which caused my WiFI driver to stop working. I tried to fix it by uninstalling and installing again from this site: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds028694, it seemed good - installer said "Success" in the end, but when opening Device manager, i see that Error 52 - Windows cannot verify the digital signature of driver blabla... I have Windows 7 HP Does anyone know how to solve this? I naively thought that drivers from official Lenovo site will be signed correctly. Thank you for any advice, John

I have a 4 month old IdeaPad Y500 that randomly drops the WiFi connection. I will be on the internet and then it says I have limited connection and drops the connection completely, then says there are no open networks to connect to. Restarting usually corrects the problem. It has done this from the beginning but now is happening more frequently (up to 3 times per day). I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver (from D drive and lenovo.com). We have 4 other WiFi capable devices and this doesn't occur with any of them. Lenovo support was no help and after being disconnected from them 4 times, then asking for a supervisor and being disconnecred a 5th time (of course he didn't call back even though he has my #) I am giving up on them for help. Besides they wanted me to pay them $90 to correct the issue citing it is likely a software problem and only hardware problems are covered on the warranty. Isn't it their software that is buggy!? Any suggestions?

Hello: Since I upgraded to Windows 10 on my IdeaPad Y500 my wifi is intermittant and stops working on sleep.

The network icon in the lower right corner  of the desktop has a red x next to it indicating no network connection. My home wifi network is not listed in the Network Settings list even when the laptop's wifi card is connecting to the router.  The wifi loses connection intermittantly on sleep, it works again once I restart the machine but loses the connection when it goes back to sleep. The LAN connection has also stopped working intermmitantly as well as the sound card.

I have updated to the latest version of Windows 10 (including the kb3093266 update) pushed out in the last month by Microsoft.
I have checked and rechecked the device drivers for wifi and LAN network adapters. The drivers are up to date with the latest. The wifi adapter is an Intel Centrino Wireless N-2230.
There are no network connections listed in the "Network Settings" list including my own router and the many other routers in my apartment building. The LAN connection didn't show up either.
The LAN adapter also stopped working the last I checked.
The sound card stopped working as well but comes back intermittantly.

What should I do? This problem is really annoying. The wifi connection is lost constantly and only works on restart. This happened after the Windows 10 upgrade in July. It only worked fine with Windows 8 and the Windows 10 Inside... Read more

According to my Toshi Sat. 1,2,3,5 bars equals dropped WiFi but when the WiFi is at 4 bars, it's the best thing since fire.

Recently, my laptop began dropping connections to the router, and the router is only a 4-5 step walk out to the kitchen from my room. And another issue is that my room seems to be a dead zone.

Like, if I turn on my laptop, I am required to go out to the kitchen and stand near the router until it's connected, but if I sit in my room, the bars go to 3 and says ''(WiFi name) cannot be detected/connected.''

Anyone wanna enlighten me of what is going on?

Mr.Delta

Answer:Satellite L500D: WiFi dropping connections to the router

Simply said, the Wlan router signal is too low and this causes the disconnection?
I?ve got some tips for you;

- WLan driver update
- Wlan card setting check; you should go to device manager -> WLan card properties -> Advanced tab. There you will find some options which helps to change the WLan standard (802.11 A, B, G, etc?) and you could also check the WLan channel and improve the signal
- Disable power saving for Wlan card

good luck

Hi, I have an Intel wireless adaptor.  I keep getting disconnected from Wifi.  When I reconnect, it never remembers my wifi password.  I had this problem previously but upgrading to windows 8.1 last year solved it.  I have tried all of the fixes for the broadcom wireless adaptor but they don't work including updating drivers, changing b/g settings, changing "allow power manager to turn off this device" etc.  When I try to download the most up to date version of the Intel driver from your website, it tells me it is pre-installed with windows 8.  Please help.  I have spend 6 hours trying to fix this.

I have a D-Link DIR 825 Router. According to most web based advice it should be capable of up to 25o odd devices being able to be connected. However the router regularly wont automatically reconnect devices that have been used for a few weeks, or have been out of the house for a few weeks. It's as if the router has a limit to the number of devices that it can be 'remembered'.
Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated?

I would love to upgrade my Centrino N-2230 to a Centrino 6235 to take advantage of dual band.  It looks like it would work, but has anybody attempted this with any luck?

Answer:Z400 WiFi Card Replacement Centrino N-2230 to Centrino 6535

I'm 90% sure that it won't work because of the whitelist of WLAN cards, which lenovo likes to put into it's bioses. If you want to upgrade it, there are two options: either you must find a wlan card with EXACTLY THE SAME pci vendor, device and subsystem IDs or flash a modified version of bios. The first way is hard because a) it's hard to find these IDs, and b) even if you find them, the set of wlan cards is kinda restricted + it's hard to find cards matching these IDs exactly. The latter way requires you to find modified version of bios (if anyone has modded it), and then flash it, but there are some risks - it can prevent your laptop from booting and may void your warranty. So, in general, it isn't that easy, thanx lenovo for that.

Hi everyone, first i'd like to say, I LOVE my Ideapad 500! Great for games, by far the best gamer computer i've had. But one troubling thing. I live in London, and right now, I happened to just move house, and won't have internet for another 2 weeks. So I am using BT hotspots, usually not that great reception, but my girlfriend who is here too, has her Macbook open with full signal almost all the time, while my Y500 struggles to even connect. At times I have had 2-3 bars, which has been acceptable, but it keeps disconnecting all the time. Even when I do have wifi at home, it just seems unstable, and it disconnects too many times! And as a gamer, it's highly frustrating when it disconnects. The network card I have is : Qualcomm Atheros AR9485WB-EG, and then on top of that there is : Qualcomm Atheros AR8161 PCI-E GIGABIT Ethernet Controller NDIS 6.30.I have tried everything I would like to think. I've disabled bluetooth, which I read should make a difference? didn't.I have tried to update the Drivers ( already updated )I have tried to Roll back the drivers ( no difference )Is there anything obvious I am missing? And lastly, If I were to send it to repairs, would it be a problem that I did not purchase the computer in the UK? I am from Copenhagen, Denmark. I bought it in Denmark august 2013, but not gonna go back there till around summer time. Please let me know if there is anyone else with similar problems, or some advise on what to do. highly frustrating seeing an old macbook b... Read more

Answer:Lenovo y500 WIFI reception.

This seems to be a common issue with the y500.  I had a HUGE problem with my wireless constantly disconnecting, it didn't seem to matter if I was using an usb wireless adapter or the internal card and none of the suggested solutions I found online seemed to work.  What fixed it for me was to change the power plan from balanced to high performance now it hasn't disconnected for days.

Hi so I've had this laptop for about a month and a half, and I've been having constant wifi problems where I keep losing connection/getting a limited connection. I've checked and my wifi driver is completely up to date.  Anyone found a decent solution to this? It's becoming extremely frustrating and I'm considering taking it back. My other laptop doesn't have a single problem with my router/wifi so I'm guessing it must be my Lenovo.  Thanks,  Brad

Answer:Lenovo Y500 wifi problems

I had the same issue... Finally I upgraded to Windows 7, and the WiFi hasn't dropped out on me. Under the WiFi properties, make sure it's not allowing other programs to control the WiFi card, or that it's not disabling the WiFi to save power.Try disabling the Blutooth... The only issue WiFi issue I have is that the speed varies from 30MBPS-10MBPS, and that's with a disabled Bluetooth, which can affect the WiFi signal.

Windows 8 caused my Y500 to be unreliable, with WIN7 Pro it no longer requires monthly restorations. It's not the Y500 it's the WIN8, or the bloatware...

Hello,I've bought this laptop 2 days ago, and it is great, but I have one problem. When I'm downloading something, speed is slow. On this laptop I'm downloading 300-500KB/s and on another PC 1.2 MB/s. Everything is on WiFi. I tried to download Intel Centrino N2230 drivers, but it didn't help me.  Termoxin

Answer:Lenovo y500 WiFi problem

I'm having the same issue.  I have two routers and a repeater at my house and have sat right next to all of them and run speedtest with my Y500, my HP laptop, my iPhone and my iPad and everything gets 10mbs+ except for the Y500, which at best gets 500kbps.  Out of curiousity, I hooked an ethernet cable up to the Y500 and found that speeds didn't improve, so I fear it's not just a wi-fi problem.  When I first got the laptop, I uninstalled the McAfee antivirus and installed AVG and I saw a slight improvement, but this this is still horrifically slow. I'm preparing to call tech support, but I'm really disappointed that something so basic as wifi works so poorly.  I am kind of leaning to returning the thing since it's basically useless right now and this issue is not instilling much confidence.

Hello all, I recently purchased the Y500 at a very good price from my local MicroCenter. Specs: Intel i7Dual GeForce GT 650M16GB SSD750 GB HDD  First of all, I love the look of the computer, it's very powerful, but I have had a few issues in the first two days of owning this laptop. I was very excited about the graphics card on this notebook. This is where my enthusiasm ends..... One: I ran 3DMark '11 to test the GPU performance. It was a terrible 21 fps. Looked like I was playing on a 1st generation IBM PC. I enabled SLI, I turned the nVidia settings to maximum performance under energy management, updated through nvidia website to newest drivers, and still no dice on getting better performance. What gives? What do I need to change? I'm computer competent, but im no guru so a guide or walk-through would be much appreciated. Two: When I am right next to my router----I can pull in 45/mb on speed test. ----- When I am in my room less than 30 feet away, it drops to 8/mb. I have no idea what's going on. It has full bars. I have disconnected and reconnected many times. Changed security settings, updated intel drivers, messed with the N settings and all that jazz and still no dice. Any and all input would be much appreciated! Thanks, Dirk

Hi, I have brought my Lenovo Y500 and its with me for past 4 months. From the beginning it have one issue of getting disconnected from the wifi and I had to switch on the airplane mode on and off then connect to the wifi again. After going through the topics in this and intel forum, i have installed the latest driver from Intel site, unchecked the wifi off option form the power management tab, changed all the settings mentioned in the Intel site.I am using Windows 8. But the wifi getting automatically switched off issue is still happening some time. Also the wifi speed is max 150Mbps and most of the time are around 120Mbps.When I connect my laptop to Modem directly the speed is around 28Mbps but via wifi its 14-16Mbps. If required I will share the setting of my wifi card. Please suggest.

Hello, I've read MANY posts on the subject, including this one: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-Z-and-P-series/lenovo-y500-wi-fi-serious-problem/td-p/1092... I have: disabled 802.11n mode, turned roaming aggressiveness to the lowest, turned off the "turn off wifi" under power management tab. And the wifi card STILL will randomly disconnect and show a limited connection. Usually I can right click> troubleshoot and it comes back with "default gateway not found" though now it's starting to say the problem could not be resolved and I can't get it to work again unless I restart my laptop, at which point the wifi will die 5 minutes later. According to device manager, I am running driver version 15.10.5.1 (date 10/31/2013) but the intel site says that driver 16.7.0 (date 12/09/2013) should be available. I tried downloading and running both the latest driver itself and the proset software but under device manager, it still says I'm running the old driver. Is this perhaps related to my problem? I also tried uninstalling the current driver in safe mode and installing the new driver but it still shows the old driver version as the one it's using? I'm really frustrated about this!! The laptop is wonderful otherwise, the screen is gorgeous, the graphics are phenomenal, and the overall build is great. It's just this stupid wifi card is killing the whole experience. And then I can't upgrade or swap out the card since apparently Lenovo has blacklisted an... Read more

Answer:Incredibly Frustrating Lenovo Y500 Wifi Problem

This is not a solution to your problem but a workaround. Rather than spending so much time tweaking the configuration of your wifi card (which only work for a few hours up to a day) you can buy a cheap dual band usb wifi adapter (10 to 20 bucks) and operate it in the 5ghz band if there are too many users in the 2.4 ghz band. Or if you're not willing to spend that much you can use the ethernet service.

Hello everyone. I'm having some problems with my wifi and I would like some help. I sat down on my PC today to download some movies. I noticed they were taking too long and as I have had issues with my ISP in the past, I jumped on speedtest.net as quick as I could to find out what my speed was like. As it turns out, I was having speed issues. Just to be sure, I went on a wired connection to my router to see if that was really the case. With a wired connection I got the speeds I'd expect from my ISP. I went to my tablet, my Xbox One, my phone. All wireless obviously and all running at full speed. I went to my laptop again to see if maybe the issue was in fact ISP related and just solved itself. Nope. Still getting slow speeds on wifi. I've tried everything. uninstalled and reinstalled drivers both generic and lenovo provided. I've run diagnostics. Forgive me for my laziness but I have no screenshots. At this point, it's four in the morning and I'm too tired. Maybe I'll get screenshots later by request. I did run the WiFi analytics on the Netgear Genie app and noticed that my signal strength was between 54% and 57% with around -48db and only jumped to 60% when 10 inches or less from the router. I used the Intel ProSet Wireless tools to run a diagnostic. All came out as working and the signal quality was excellent. Under statistics -> percent transmit errors I did notice I was getting 12 percent. Is this supposed to signify packet loss?? If you need any in... Read more

Hi all, I bought this Lenovo G585 (Win 8) in January this year, and over the past few weeks some problems have been developing. When I move the laptop, either the video I am streaming freezes, or the wifi drops, or both. Sometimes, even after 5/6 restarts, the laptop will not be able to find the wireless networks and I will have to shut it down, remove the battery, replace the battery, and turn it back on - and for some reason this works! When I say "move" I literally mean I can be sitting on the sofa and move the laptop from beside me up onto my lap. The problem occurs when I transport the laptop between rooms, too. I've updated the drivers, changed power management settings, updated my antivirus and run scans, all to no avail. What can I do next?

Hi. I'm having a really weird issue with my lenovo y500. In two games I've played so far (TF2, and minecraft) my latency starts to sky rocket after some time if I have my power inserted. When I remove the power, and thus play on battery my latency drops again. Ofcourse playing on battery gives me lag, so I'd rather like to have this issue fixed. I tried installing new drivers for the wifi driver but that didn't solve this problem.

hi Martijnie,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

This might be a power save issue
Open Control Panel / Hardware and sound / Power Options
Now Take note of your Selected Power Plan
Click on the Change Plan Settings Beside it (link to photo)
A new window will show up now click Change Advanced Power settings at the bottom. (link to photo)
A new windows will show up, make sure it is your selected power plan you are changing

Now look for Wireless Adapter Settings / Open it up by clicking the plus sign beside it
Make sure that the Power Saving mode on both AC adapter and Battery are on both Maximum performance

After changing the settings
Try to do a test and see if that works

Hope this helps
Cheers!

So it all started few months back when I updated my Y500 to Windows 8.1 from store. Back then freezes weren't that frequent. It used to freeze once or twice a day. The screen would either go black accompanied with a 'pop' sound, fan would start running and it would shutdown moments later or would go crazy with weird colors and same thing happens( http://i.imgur.com/e79BVsP.jpg ) . Soon the freezes increased to the point that my Y500 would freeze moments after it boots to desktop (or even during booting)So I did a clean installation of Windows 8.1 few weeks back and it was normal for first 2 days. The issue started again. I unistalled latest Nvidia drivers (removed using Display Driver Uninstaller) and reverted back to old Nvidia drivers from Lenovo website, also tried the TDR fix but it didn't fix a thing. The issue is even more terrible when the laptop is not plugged in. (Didn't encounter any such issue when I booted in safe mode though.)Tried running scannow and RestoreHealth commands. Couldn't fix (due to some errors, forgot what it was).Tried running chkdsk scan, Never got the chance to finish as it would get interrupted by the freeze everytime.Encountered few BSODs too. (MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION, DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL(tcpip.sys), WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR). Even as I write, I'm being interrupted with this freezing issue(see the pixelated colors) : http://i.imgur.com/hwDuK5k.jpg Maybe old, but here are the MiniDump files :https://drive.google.com... How can i resolve this? Thank You!  Regards.

Hi all, So, I love my new Y500 laptop, but I have come to loathe the wireless Intel Centrino 2230 N it came with. This is the most POS wireless card I've ever worked with. Anyways, I finally got it working with my home wireless network. However, it refuses to have any internet connection via ipv6 Everything is set up in DCHP - all the other computers in the house are set up the exact same way. Every computer has ipv6 internet except for my y500. So, a little help from the community please. How do I get my Intel Centrino 2230 N card to connect to ipv6 internet? All drivers are current, all patches have been downloaded, yadda yadda. Not a first time user. Now if I can also get it to connect faster than 140mbps that would be great too... lol Thanks all!

Answer:y500 with Intel Centrino 2230 not connecting w/ ipv6

If your OS is win 8 then all you have to do is uninstall and delete the manufaturer's wifi driver and just let win 8 use its default driver. You may have to disable bluetooth and enter the ssid and passphrase. Make a test after rebooting.

Hi, I've found this forum while looking for a solution to my lagging problem. My Y500 is just a few months old and it started to lag what ever I start doing, interesting part is that the problem disappears once I move the mouse or press any button on keyboard(it is not working on battery). I first planned to install a clean windows  but realised that it will not be that easy since I've changed the partition size of drive C. I would appreciate if you could give me an advice to re install win8 with onekey recovery without changing the partition sizes. There are lots of files on drive D that I can not back up to somewhere else.Thank you in advance.

hey guysI have a lenovo y500 and I owned this laptop for more than a year now so my warrenty os over, believe when I tell you that in this year I have only used it for 2 months, the rest of the time its either in service or having a problem wating for be fixed.it all started when I got the machine with the trackpad issue, given that there was no service center in the country I lived in at the time there was no solution for me but to open the machine my self and fix the problem, I did the exact that but the issue emerged again and luckly I was in UAE so there was a service center there, sent it there took lenovo more than 1 months to replace the keyboard and trackpad only to discover that the sound stopped working, sent it back again and appearntly when I opened the machine I ruined one of the ribbons for the side usb and 3.5 jack panel, fair enough they replaced the motherboard at my own cost 350$ since its my fault, even though I have stressed that all this wouldn`t happened if they agreed to replace the machine for me and pay for shipment wich they of course they refused.so after replacing the motherboard, the tech guy didn`t apply the thermal paste properly so the temps skyrocketed and reached 100c so I had to send the machine back again and show the tech guy how to apply thermal paste the right way, he did a good jop and everything worked fine, until I decided to purchase the 2nd sli gt650, now after I got it, the card is dedected and shows both in nvidia and device manag... Hi Guys, I have a Lenovo Yoga 2 laptop. This is the second time I have had issues with the WiFi dropping out frequently.  The first time was when I first downloaded windows 10 - I downloaded a new driver from the Lenovo website and everything worked perfectly.  The last couple of months it has been playing up again. My phone and any other devices will be connected to the internet however my laptop will repeatedly disconnect from the internet, this happens a ridiculous amount of times everyday - and it's not just my home wifi! Im currently at my university library and it does the same thing. It just drops out randomly and says "not connected - no connects are available" I have to keep restarting my laptop for it to reconnect to the internet (I know that's probably not the best thing to do but it's the only thing that sometimes works). I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver software, I've scanned for hardware changes and nothing comes up?? Has anyone got any ideas on anything else I could try?  Thank you all!

I got me a new Lenovo Flex 2-14 with Windows 8.1 on it yesterday, but I can't connect to my wifi network. In the tray there's always the red cross (not the yellow symbol) and no network is found at all.I read that a lot of users experience this, so I tried multiple drivers but none of them works. I tried the one pre-installed on the D drive, the newest one from the Lenovo website and also some that I found via Google when I searched for my wifi-adapter (it's a Realtek RTL8723BE). But as I said, no driver works.Does anybody have an idea what I could do? It's a completely new notebook, so I didn't change any settings. Thank you!

Answer:No wifi connections with Windows 8.1 on Lenovo Flex 2-14

Look if the wireless adapter is disabled in your BIOS? If not, in Device Manger disable it and later enable it again.

Hello, I have had a problem with my laptop for a while now and have only just been able to capture the issue on video. The problem started many months ago, perhaps the start of 2015. Bascially the screen flickers very badly and sometimes across the whole screen but it only happens when the main body of colour displayed is black. As you can see in the video, the second I press the windows buttton the flickering disappears. This is why I have been unsure whether or not it was my laptop hardware or software. I would appreciate it if someone knew how to fix this. Video: https://youtu.be/a3C-TzavBtg Thanks Lewis

Not details on whether this is a clean install of Win 8.1 or factory image (but I doubt it is as it sounds like an older machine).

Hello, I have ideapad y500 and  I've noticed that when ever I shut it off and power it back on the battery has drained. Its about 12% per night .. Its rly weird bcs i am not using "always on usb" or any others features. I think that it is HW bug or BIOS. I have noticed that when  i shut it down -> unplug the power cable then i remove and again attach the battery leave it for 12hours and there weren't any battery drain. So it only appears when i just unplug the power cable and leave it. I have read some topics(some ppl have the same problem) but i haven't find any solution. Is there any solution to solve this problem?? Bios version is the latest one.. I haven find any newest bios ver on your website.  Tomas

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad Y500 issue - battery drain (shutdown)

I'm assuming you have win 8. Try this:On the Windows 8 Start Screen, press CNTL + ALT + DEL.On the next screen select the Power icon located in the lower Right. When the options appear, press the SHIFT key and select "Restart". When the next screen appears, select "Turn off your PC". The unit will power down completely.See if you still have the battery draining.Note: Even if the unit is off, a little drain is expected to maintain the clock, etc.

hi Y500USA,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

The Lenovo Y500 issue that the lenovo tech. is referring to is probably this thread.

Usually, every vendor has specific period (may vary from 7 days up to a month) where you can exchange/return a product if found defective. If you're still in between this specific period and you purchased the unit directly from Lenovo, you may try to call lenovo sales at these specific hours to raise your concern

Lenovo Access Connections app can be a real pain - it keeps disabling your wired connection whenever wifi is near.  Often I need both - public wifi and secure LAN.  To disable the disabling, so to speak, fire up "Access Connections" app, switch to Advanced, to to the "Location Profiles" tab, edit all your profiles and untick "disconnnect from the network when switching to a different location".

Answer:Solved - how to connect wifi and wired at the same time using Lenovo Access Connections.

Good evening, Every now and then, after using the laptop for a while, or getting it from sleep mode, the touchpad simply quits working as it should. Clicking by simply tapping the pad stops working, and clicking by really pushing in the trackpad itself will only activate either right or left click. Sometimes it even quits working at all. After rebooting the device the issues will be over, which makes me think it is some sort of a software issue. Also every now and then, while working in my student room, my laptop loses its internet connection. While there are many Wi-Fi signals in my student room-complex, it can't detect any of them. Then, after waiting for some time and rebooting the device once or twice, the connection will get restored, and all the other signals are back as well. Both issues aren't very huge, yet very annoying when working on a paper or so. Especially since I bought the laptop a little longer then two months ago, assuming due to it's price and the ThinkPad?s reputation (being able to stop a bullet and yet still work) this is a huge disappointment Anyone who has a solution for me for either one of these problems? Thanks!

Answer:Lenovo W540 randomly loses Wifi connections and its trackpad/touchpad often doesn't work

I have also noticed some wifi problems on the W540. I have the Intel AC7260, and occassionally, it stops working - reporting a driver problem. When this happens, it is not working at all and cannot scan for available wifi networks - exactly like you report. However, if I do a quick uninstall and scan for hardware changes within device manager, normal operation is restored, without having to reboot repeatedly. After a while, it will stop working again - this is not too frequent, however. I assume it is a dirver problem.

I have a Lenovo G505 laptop. I'm not 100% sure if it's a Thinkpad or Ideapad. My problem is that my Wifi internet connection keeps disconnecting or it becomes limited. This usually happens within the first 5 minutes of going online. The way I correct this is I click on my network and click disconnect  and then click reconnect. This usually corrects the problem, But sometimes it happens again during the same session. I've had Verizon out to check on my connection and signal strength. They even replaced the router. There doesn't seem to be any issue with my ISP. My son daughters laptop both work fine with no interuptions and they are on a different floor than the router. I am only about 20 feet and in the same room as the router. I'm not computer savy, I know just enough to get by. Does anyone have any suggestions? I need help.

In the last month a problem has arose that has been killing a number of people, connected to a switch, off internet explorer. The tricky part about this is that in using our network the school email and printers still work its just internet explorer that dies randomly, usually two to three times an hour. We have 4 switches but just the people connected to 1 of 4 are suffering. The current solution has been to repair it or pull out the Ethernet and plug it back in. I have tried resetting the switch and wonder if its not maybe a spyware/adware problem on one of the many computers that is connected to the network, as we didn't have this problem until everyone got back to school.

Does anyone have a clue about what might be going on or a possible fix?

Currently there is a range of computers and operating systems running on this switch but all seem to suffer from the same problem.

Answer:Dropping Connections

Hello and Welcome to TSF!

Do some experiments:

You've mentioned this 'We have 4 switches but just the people connected to 1 of 4 are suffering'. Replace the Switch, if you have not done it yet.

Second test, swap connections, 2 Users that having disconnection issue, plug 2 of them in a working switch, then 2 Users that's not having disconnection issue plug them in to the problematic switch.

Hi,I have a dell inspiron 530 desktop, running windows XP with all the latest windows updates, 4gb RAM, aftermarket G-forge 1gb video card.  It has 8 usb ports, 4 in the front, and 4 in the back.  Recently any devices I plug in drop connection and the reconnect constantly.  In the past I have filled all 8 ports without any issues, and this problem does not affect my usb keyboard, mouse, and printer.  However plugging in a second usb mouse will cause this issue on the second mouse but not the original one.  It doesn't seem to matter what the 4th device is.  I have also tried both the front and rear usb ports with the same results, and all the devices I am trying to use have worked in the past with no issues.  I have not made any changes to hardware since the problem started, so I am lost on this one.  I have done a full wipe and re-install of windows.  Any ideas?

I agree completely with the above comment. 1) First, on any laptop, wireless should never fail. 2) If a wirelesss internet connection keeps dropping and all the suggestions to get it working correctly (such as get a new router, you need to download new drivers, you need to upgrade windows, etc.) don't work, then HP needs to admit they are responsible for the problem and fix it for free. 3) And one last senario. If Windows is the problem, this is complete nonsense. HP and all other companies should never allow Windows to control how a wireless feature works. If it's a Windows problem, then I blame HP for allowing Windows to have control over something as necessary as having a wireless connection.  And it's the responsibility of HP to fix the problem.

Answer:Re: wireless connections keep on dropping.

Hey @Mike_West,  I understand that you may be having an issue with your wireless on your Notebook. If you would like, I would be more than happy to do my best and help you!  Could you please provide me with your Model Number (How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?) and Which Windows Operating Systems you are running. My first suggestion would be to use the Troubleshooting Wireless Network and Internet Tool. At the bottom it will ask you questions to help you diagnose the issue.  Please take a look at this great document called Troubleshooting Wireless Network and Internet. This document will help you troubleshoot the Wi-Fi issue.  Have you tried to Restore the BIOS? Have you tried to directly connect to the Modem/Router? Have you uninstalled the driver in the Device Manager? Did you happen to try using the HP Support Assistant?  When we have come to a resolution, please share what worked for you with others by marking this post as an Accepted Solution. If you would like to show your appreciation for my efforts today, please take a second to click the Thumbs Up button below. Please re-post and let me know the detailed results of all the troubleshooting steps in this post so that I can further assist you.  Look forward to hearing from you!Have a great day!

I have 2 robotic machines/computers that are each connected to an NT domain by a router. Each have their own router. The routers have unique, static, external ip addresses. The inside addresses, however are the same. Example, both routers inside addresses are .100, and the robot addresses are .200.

Anyhow, I am have difficulty keeping the connections alive on both machines. I have narrowed it down to the fact that when one robot is shut down, the other robot can access the mapped drive to the server. When the first robot comes online to access the mapped drive, however, the second one will lose the connection. I was under the impression that the inside network addresses could be the same, as long as the routers each had an unique external ip address in the NT domain, but my findings are proving otherwise. As well, when both robots came in, I found out that they both had the same computernames and domains, and was told that they would both be able to access the domain. However, i had to change the domain and computername on one of them to be able to see the router on the network.

Any ideas? Thanks

Answer:Routers dropping connections

YEa , I have an idea!! You cannot have the same IP address on the network....WON'T WORK as it will bump the duplicate every time. Just give each one a unique IP address. You shouldn't have the same IP address on two different routers either....what is a packet headed for the .200 address going to do when it encounters two of the same IP addresses? More than likely it will get dropped. Why do you need two routers with the same IP address anyway?

I've got a PIII 1.2 GHz 512 MB ram, 30 GB hard drive machine, so it's got enough juice.

It's not licensing, hardware, DNS, DHCP. I've got all the service packs and updates, and I've also been on the phone with microsoft for about 4 hours and have them stumped.

My issue is similaiar to everytone elses. My new hp 360 convertible arrived slow and dropping connections continuously. HP was no help. My local cable company suggested a new router but that didnt help either. Both hp and microsoft have been no help unless I want to PAY for technical service even though my computer is under warranty.   Based on what i have read here, they must be aware there is a huge issue. this is my third HP and my last. Customer service sucks -unless you want to PAY tech support which I refuse to do since this computer arrived in a nearly unusable state. I have uploaded drivers  and fiddled with the services menu to get it a biyt more stable but it still is very slow and drpping internet connection even though my computer says I am connected. Not to ,emtion airplane mode popping on on a regular basis. Hp told me I wopuld have to PAY for them to apply the update to fix the problem- I said no I shouldnt have to pay- sadly, this as my last hp.

Despite having changed nothing since last year, when I moved back to college and set up my pfsense router again, it now frequently will drop connections and generally result in internet connectivity being cut out. When this happens, I can usually tell bacause AIM (client: Trillain Basic 3) will tell me I am signed on from two different locations, indicative of IP change. My roommate however, does not get these messages (he is running Trillain Pro 3) but is still disconnected along with me. Most of the time when this happens I am not around, but when I have managed to check, it looks as if it temporarily loses it's DHCP lease. I have switched the WAN interface card to another one I had in the machine, and the problem presists. There appears to be no ditinguishable pattern to it, and full function returns usually less than 15 sec after failure (sometimes Trillian does not even register the interruption). Again, I am not usually there when it happens, but it seems as though the HTTP acsess is also affected. Any ideas? I am thinking of just restting to default settings and configuring everythign anew.

Thanks for reading.

I've gotten several reports from users within our organization of losing the usb connection on their T420 series of laptops (also a couple of reports on desktops).  They have the latest USB drivers installed.  It seems to be random (making it difficult to really find the issue) and many times unplugging the device and plugging it back in resolves the issue but in many cases the laptop needs to be rebooted.  Has anyone seen this issue or any suggestions?  Let me know if you need additional information.  I don't really have any event logs to offer right now as most of the time the users aren't keeping track of when it happens and notify us well after the fact.

Answer:T420's dropping USB connections

Hi Mfergel,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

As per the query you are facing issue with USB data transfer rate for your ThinkPad T420.

Check with updating Chipset application.
Check with uninstalling the root hubs from device manager, under Universal Serial Bus Controller?.
Check with updating the latest BIOS firmware.
Go to device manger and expand ?Universal Serial Bus Controller? right click on root hub go to properties, click on Power Management menu and uncheck ?Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power?.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Hey everyone, Recently, my Lenovo Y50-70 started acting up. All of a sudden, i could not connect to a WiFi network. Whenver i check devicemanager, i see this "other devices -> networkcontroller" which has a yellow triangle with an exclamation point in it. So i figured... this must be the problem.  Now whenever i check properties on this device, i get alot of stuff that i dont even know what it means. But the path directory to this device should be (it says this in the properties) ..\Driver\ACPI.  I dont really know what to do now... should i just delete this device and reinstall? because i could not find any ACPI drivers for my device. If anyone could help me out, that'd be great. Since i can not stay connected to this ethernet cable for ever.I will respond to any messages, so if anyone tries to help me, we can find whats up. Thanks,Yves

I am having trouble with wifi connectivity on Lenovo G50-80 with Windows 7. I tried connecting to the wifi for the first time but if fails to search for any wifi connections. When I tried troubleshooting it says that Wifi Adapter is turned off and I should switch it on my pressing key. I could not find any key, I tried F7 key and Fn+F7 key but it doesn't work. Later I put the laptop of sleep mode. When I logged again, the wifi adapter was able to search for nearby wifi networks and able to connect with them. But when I restarted the laptop, I faced same issue again. Ever time I have to first put the laptop on sleep mode and then wake up to connect to wifi network. What seems to be the issue??

But the path directory to this device should be (it says this in the properties) ..\Driver\ACPI.  I dont really know what to do now... should i just delete this device and reinstall? because i could not find any ACPI drivers for my device. If anyone could help me out, that'd be great. Since i can not stay connected to this ethernet cable for ever.I will respond to any messages, so if anyone tries to help me, we can find whats up. Thanks,Yves

Answer:Lenovo Y50-70 WiFi issue

It sounds like the driver needed by Windows to communicate with your WiFi adapter has become corrupted, so you need to go to Lenovo support site here, select the correct Windows operating system for your system, use the "Pick a Component" pulldown to select "Networking: Wirelesss LAN" and download the driver and install the latest driver.     I am not sure which one of the two drivers listed you need, but just try installing both of them, since only one will work, and the other will just fail to install. If all else fails,Right click on the network controller under "other devices",Select Uninstall,Check the box to "Delete the driver software for this device: (if offered), and then press OK.Reboot if prompted to do so, but if no reboot is required, just right click on any device in Device Manager and select "scan for hardware changes".    Windows will then scan for the card, and attempt to install the driver. Good Luck,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue after Wifi driver on your Lenovo Y50-70.

Download the drivers from the below link and install it, after the installation use Fn+F5 keys to enable the Wifi and check if the issue still persists.

Intel Wifi driver for Windows 7, Intel Wifi driver for Windows 8.1

Lenovo Energy Management for Windows 7, Lenovo Energy Management for Windows 8.1

Hope this helps!

Answer:WiFi Intel Centrino N-6205 - properties?

Hello,

I haven't had any problems with the Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6205 Mini-PCIe WLAN card in my X220.

I have only made one change to the settings, and that's to disable the power management option on it that allows Windows to put it to sleep when it's not being used.

Regards,

When I use my ThinkPad X220 with Cenrino 6205 on my homenetwork it works for 5-10 minutes, then it looses connection and th adapter turns itself off (even the LED goes out). Havre tried with original Intel-drivers, Lenovo-drivers and with/without Access Connections. All other machines at home works towards the router perfectly; even the Lenovo G- and B-systems and iPad. Anyone?

Answer:X220 Centrino 6205 WiFi disabling itself

Uncheck in the device manager on the "Energy"-tab of the WiFi card the powersave-option "Allow Windows to turn off device to save power"
On the "Advanced"-tab set powersave mode from maximum to "minimum (max. transmit power)"

Hello everyone, I have been trying to get my wireless working on my Dell Inspiron n5110 on Windows 7 64 bit to no avail. In device manager I have the error "code 10 this device cannot start" Errors in event viewer are "The version number is incorrect for this driver." and " Could not allocate the resources necessary for operation." I have tried almost everything so far. Reinstalled drivers multiple times, with multiple versions. I have replaced the adapter even though I knew it was a software problem because the wireless works on a live boot Ubuntu and as a last resort I have reinstalled Windows and installed all the proper drivers but still nothing. Any thoughts on what I could be missing or some suggestions?

So I just purchased and built a new system yesterday, got everything installed fine - but after loading win xp pro my system seems to drop internet connections randomly. At first it was just game update servers, but now it's games, ventrilo, IE but >>not<< firefox.

I have no clue what might be happening. Any suggestions on what I should check for?

Hi, I was having problems in that my computer would just crash and restart and other problems so I reinstalled windows but now I am getting problems with the internet. After a while I get the nasty yellow triangle and message saying I cannot connect to the internet and check my service provider. I have max strength on the connections so it is not that. I switch users and I can connect again. Then I lose the connection so I have to switch users etc etc. I now have six users for my computer so I can work.
Does anybody know what is going on? I can reinstall windows but is this going to fix the problem?

Answer:Weird internet connections dropping

Could this be an infection by that conflicker worm? If so should I swap this to the malware section? Your help in this matter would be very much appreciated.

Hey guys, I am really at a loss here. My router, the Linksys WRT54G dropping connections (or at least I think it's the router) I have an Orinoco Gold wireless card that I am using to connect with. I was running Netstumbler the other day and I was getting like a 95% signal, whick is great, but every once in a while, I lose the connction, and I can't get to the network. I will go to check the connectivity, and I see the icon with the red "X" on it. So I went into the SP2 wireless config tool, and I double-click on my wireless network, and I get the dialog box saying this:

"Are you sure you want to disconnect from this network.....blah....blah"

WTF? I am not connected but it thinks I am. This is really getting annoying, and I am at my wit's end. if anyone knows what to do, or has a suggestion, please help me! Oh, and bump me too, please! Thanks fo looking!

I've had this router about two years. The issue with dropping connections has become a real problem and I've noticed it's difficult to connect to other PCs on the LAN. Some times I can get to a shared folder and some times I cannot.

Most of the use is accessing the internet. I've swapped it out with a WRT54GC and also connected directly to the Comcast Cable modem and the problems with the internet go away.

Here's what I've tried to do so far:

Reset the the router. DLink's press and hold reset for 10 seconds.
Tried using f/w 1.7. Tried 1.9 and then 1.8. Have not tried 1.6. (reset between f/w)
I know there are a lot of other WiFi signals nearby as I'm in a townhouse and can see at least about 7 or so.

Don't have any real interest in gaming but I do want a fast router that's constant and solid. Not sure what to replace this with if I need to buy another.

Desktop gets connected to router and two laptops connect via WiFi. One laptop has Broadcomm 802.11 b/g and the other has an Atheros 802.11 a/b/g (able to do 108 Mpbs).

Edit:
One note: it seems odd that this router will work fine at times and then I start having issues. Some times occasional and some times chronic.

Would it help to create some sort of cardboard piece to fit onto the antenna to help boost the signal toward a certain direction and block from interfering from neighbors?

Maybe use NetStumbler to figure out a better frequency or ?

Help! I have just purchased my 2nd new router in less than a week. I had a Netgear wireless-B router that worked fine for the last 3-4 years. Within the last week or two, my remote computers started dropping their connections from the router. It started with just the computers that were connected wirelessly, then it started happening with computers that were hard-wired to the router as well. (I have two wireless computers working off of it and two hard-wired computers) I removed my Ethernet cable from the router and ran it directly into one of my computers to connect to my ISP via a PPPoE connection. I wanted to see if my DSL was the culprit. It stayed nailed up with no problems for well over 15-20 hours. As soon as I ran the cable back into the router and started trying to connect with multiple computers to the router, my connections would drop intermittently. Sometimes it would take a couple of hours before they dropped while other times, they would drop in 5-10 minutes. Anytime I reset the router by unplugging the power for 15-20 seconds and plugging it back in, I could regain connectivity on the remote computers. Every time that my remote computers lose connectivity, my router shows that it still has a good IP address from my ISP. If I go into the router management page using the router IP address, I can see that it has a valid IP address from my ISP and a good connection.

Thinking that my router must be going bad, I went out and bought a new Netgear Wireless G router. I... Read more

Answer:Remote computers dropping connections

Since your previous router served you well for years let me try a solution before getting into trouble shooting.

I'm guessing wireless interference. Try setting the router (either of them) to the same channel you were using with the old router. If you don't remember it, just try channels 1, 6 and 11.

OK, I bought a Linksys WRT160Nv3 802.11n router about a week ago and just hooked it up in my house about three days ago. I have three PCs: An HP Netbook with 802.11g, an HP Pavillion DV4 with 802.11g, an HP ENVY 15 with 802.11n, and two Apple iPhones which I assume utilize 802.11g. I got the router up and running using Cisco's automated wizard that comes packaged with the router and, despite a few problems the automatically installed Network Magic cause on my computer (such as disabling my NIS for some reason), I was able to get all of my systems talking on the network. However the connections keeps dropping. Not just the internet but the entire network connection on all systems, to include the iphones, will arbitrarily drop for up to a minute at a time as if the router had been unplugged. It will find the network again and reconnect without any problems. Sometimes this will happen four or five times within a 20 minute period and sometimes it will go three or four hours without it happening at all. I've set it back to factory defaults a handful of times and tweaked different settings to no avail.

I work in the IT industry as a network engineer so I'm not the average consumer. However, I find that the more these companies try to make products that are user friendly the more difficult it seems to be for me to work with. My frustration is multiplied knowing that this little piece of plastic is kicking my ***.

As a side note, it has dropped off twice while typing... Read more

I only have one PC and an xbox(switched off at the time) on this network. I'm now getting a drop in connection every 5-10 mins and have to repair the network settings. When i run connection diagnostic tool it says i can connect via HTTP and HTTPS but not FTP. I haven't got a clue if i was able to connect via FTP before or what it even is for that matter. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,I have a Y550p and for the most part I love it.I am a dj and unfortunately I have come into a situation that is causing me some major issues.I run a program called Serato and when I plug in my mixer into a USB port all my other ports become unavailable (i.e. when something is plugged into that port windows can recognize it. There is also an issue with using a midi controller that controls my program and when I plug that it it causes my program to lock up. At first I was thinking "NP its a simple program issue" well after reading all the posts on there site about the issue, it seems the real issue is with the i7 processor and certain bios that company's use. I have already tried updating the bios on my laptop and it helped a few things but I am still unable to use ports and that controller crashes the program. I have read many post from other people with the same issue that said that after there laptop company updated there bios that all there problems were resolved and I was wondering if there was any new bios updates coming out soon or if this could be brought to the dev teams attention. The only other option I have is to dualboot "hackintosh' but I need an open partition for that and I can create any more. Can someone please see if they can help me out at there earliest convenience

So may try changing the power plan to high performance when in battery mode. Of course this will cause a faster drain in your battery.
