Preferred Solution: Reinstall original OS [Z580 - Windows 7]

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

HiCan you try to do one key recovery if it luckily works on our system as most of the time one key recovery doesn't work after installing windows 8 on windows 7 but you can try.Just press the small button near the power button to switch on laptop and then follow the onscreen steps. If it doesn't work, then you might try this guide by which you can use the image to install the factory windows 7 image.http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-Z-and-P-series/How-to-use-one-key-recovery-after-it-stops-...And please do tell if you want to do it without windows 7 disk.Regards

I have a P25 which has lost its screen and dvd.
Screen is black with a dim light (graphics control problem I am told by Toshiba repair - requires motherboard change = USD1000).

The DVD (Mat****u UJ-809?) makes sounds but is not recognizable by Windows.

So I now use it as a desktop with external screen, keyboard and DVD.

As with all Windows installation things got clogged up so I now had to reinstall the Windows MC that came with the machine. However, running the Recovery DVD from an external DVD reader does not work.

As it boots I get a DOS message that there is no DVD and a A> prompt.
I can install a new XP version, but then I miss all the MC features and have to install all P25 drivers manually.

I would be very grateful if anyone could assist.

(If somebody would have a clever idea about the screen as well, please let me know)

Thanks,
Tom

Answer:Satellite P25: How to reinstall original software without original drive working?

Hello,
I can not say what tests your service repair ran, but the screen problem could likely be an Inverter issue. As for the dvd problem. I have heard that Toshiba laptops need the Toshiba external CD/DVD to boot or otherwise it will not work. I have not ever tried so I can not attest to this, but it could very well likely be that. Assuming that your CD/DVD is listed in hardware manager with a yellow exclamation mark do this, start->run->regedit then do the following.

go to hkey_local_machine, then system, CurrentControlSet, Control, Then class.
{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} This is your cd/DVD. Once there in the list to the right verify a component called UpperClass filter, click on it, hit delete, and delete it. Then do the same for lowerfilter. Delete both filters, then right click on My computer, on your desktop. Go to properties->hardware->Device manager. Right click on your cd/DVD and click disenstall. Then go to the top and click find new hardware. It should find your cd/DVD and reinstall the driver without any conflicts. Hope this helps.

When I start windows, it gets past the loading screen and then restarts. I hooked up the hd to my other computer and all of my files were still there. I'm guessing that a program messed up one of the windows critical files and it causes windows to crash.

I put in the xp disk and navigated to the repair screen. I selected the partition and it showed me a command prompt type screen. I thought that windows would just reinstall all of it's critical files automaticly, but it didn't, it showed me the cmd prompt screen.

My question is, What do I do to reinstall windows xp's system files??

Answer:How do I reinstall windows' original files?

restart your computer with your xp disk in. right after you hit f8 you should be giving a option to do a repair install. this should do the trick for you

Hello.

I want to do a re-load of Windows XP Home Edition but I wasn't supplied with a CD when purchasing the laptop. I presume the files are pre-installed. I don't want to carry out a "restore", but to re-load windows as I used to be able to do with W2K.

Any help would be gratefully received.

When Microsoft offered free window10, I got it. 3 weeks ago I had computer problems and reset computer to original factory settings (windows 7) How can I reinstall window10 free!

Answer:reinstall windows 10 from original windows7

Hi: If you had already upgraded to W10 and it was successfully activated, I know you can clean install W10 by making the installation media from the link below (media creation tool). http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 Since you had previously upgraded to W10 and as long as it was activated, if you need to reinstall it, you don't need a product key. There will be an option to enter a product key but there is also an option to check 'I don't have a product key.' That is what you select to reinstall a previous installation of a W10 upgrade. Now, what I don't know is if you can run the installation disk from the windows desktop and upgrade from W7 to W10, keeping the currently installed programs, files and settings.  I don't know if it will know it was activated before and if you will be given the option of selecting 'I don't have a product key." I have only clean reinstalled W10 using the above method.

I bought an HP Pavilion laptop on Craig's list a few months ago for gaming purposes. It's nothing fancy, but what I could afford that would be able to handle world of warcraft. A few weeks ago, I got a very hard crash that made a loud noise and totally threw me off (this is my first PC in many years, usually buy macs). I'm told that it blue screened and after talking to some of my PC buddies it seems I need to reinstall Windows 7 because I'm having major registry errors that keep occurring (friends suggested using CCleaner to fix the registry and I"ve done it a few times and the problems keep returning. I don't have anything on this computer that I need to save (literally only use it for gaming) so I just want to do a clean install, but I"m unsure how to go about this without the original CDs (which I never got when i bought the machine). Is there something I can do? Any suggestions are welcome and I fully appreciate the help

Answer:Reinstall Windows 7 without original install discs

The HP laptop should have a recovery partition, there should be a HP tool to "create recovery disks". Once you have done that you can boot from them and restore your system to an as-new state. You will need blank disks for this.

it may be worth running check disk first.

Type cmd into the start menu then right click it and choose run as admin,

then type chkdsk /f into the command prompt it will say it cant, do you want to schedule it for boot time, press y then restart your computer.

Hi

I bought Toshiba Satellite A500-19U and Windows 7. I tried to create a new partition then I made D active so it became hidden, after restarting the laptop I got black screen and massage (bootmgr is missing)

So I installed another copy of Windows 7 just to log into my computer. Then after installing the copy of Windows 7 I made D inactive so it appeared there is folder recovery. So my question is: As long as I have this folder I want to reinstall the original Windows 7 which I have in the hard disk but how?

When I press F then repair it does not give the last option HDD Recovery! Why and I have the recovery folder?

Please help me

Answer:Satellite A500 - How to reinstall original Windows 7?

Hi

I assume you didn?t read the user manual firstly. I?m right? ;)

Well, normally the HDD recovery you can start if you go in advanced boot menu (F8) and select ?Repair my computer?. After this you can choose the HDD recovery option.

But I assume this isn?t possible anymore because you installed another copy of Windows 7. So this menu isn?t available anymore.

The only option to restore ?factory settings? is using the Toshiba recovery disk. Did you create it? This can be done with preinstalled Toshiba recovery disk creator but if you didn?t create it, it?s also too late now.

The only option now is ordering a new recovery disk from Toshiba directly. Therefore have a look in your user manual.

Hello, I have the IdeaPad S10-3 netbook and have Ubuntu installed on it. I would like to reset my IdeaPad to the original settings from when I purchased it. Can someone tell me what to do step by step?  Or is this even possible? Thanks!

Answer:How to reinstall Windows 7 starter and reset to original settings?

Hi

Welcome To Lenovo Community

Since you have installed Ubuntu  in place of windows 7 starter  . Now since you might have modified the service partion. Using the novo button the recovery may not be possible

But you may check  by power off the system , press the novo button  (with inverted arrow) . it will start the system in recovery mode  and  chose one key recovery to recover system to initial backup

http://support.lenovo.com/en_ID/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=127597018499211

But you can recover the system using the Recovery Disk which you have created using OKR

You need to boot the  system using the  recovery media and follow on screen instructions

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?DocID=HT051298

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFOxs1AUDxo&feature=related

If you have not created a set of recovery media then you may need to purchase the same from Local Lenovo service center

Hope This Helps
Cheers!!!

A Horrible end to a LONG weekend after a Sandisk extreme SSD 480GB  update on a Z580 running Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium .  After a long sequence of events, I ended up with a machine that can't boot, and the screen goes blank when F2 is pressed (although the backlight stays on)  FN+F2 will turn the backlight off or on.  F2, F8 no longer works, as well as F12, NO WAY TO ACCESS BOOT MENU.  Even with the no drive, there is no error!! (it should say that the boot device wasn't found, or whatever).  It seems the BIOS was somehow changed during all this, and is now mostly dead, even though I never went into it except to detect the new SSD.  Putting back the original HDD does nothing to fix this, and the computer is unusable. I will list the events in order.  Note that at all times, I unplugged the laptop, removed the battery, etc.  The worse part in all this is that replacing the original drive did NOT bring the machine back from the dead.  This laptop is about a month old, and worked fine before all this,  URGHHH!!!!  I also did a LOT of internet research, and think this also happens to others in one form or another.  One person said pressing B during a boot would restore the BIOS, no such luck, I have tried everything! http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-Z-and-P-series/z580-can-t-access-bios-setup-or-boot-menu-a... 1) Imaged the original HDD on... Hi, I installed a win7 Ultimate on my Lenovo laptop Z680 and found it is really terrible. I want to reinstall the Lenovo original OS, anybody now how to do this? Thanks

Answer:Reinstall original OS

hi Laojizhou,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums,

I think you're referring to Lenovo Z580?
The solution for this might be a little complex since i guess the Recovery Partition saved in your hardrive was deleted when you install a different Windows,

If the Recovery Partition is still intact you can try turning on your computer using the OKR Button

This should boot the system up with one key recovery Software and give you an option to recover to Initial back up.

If the button does not work
I have sent you a Private message requesting for Computer details so I can give you instructions on how to proceed.

Hope this helps,
Cheers!

I need to reinstall xp on a desktop unit. The original oem xp sticker is on the computer. But, the customer does not have their original install disc? can I use any xp install disc, and enter the product code on the sticker?

Thanks in advance,

Doug

P.S. I am just starting my own business and would welcome any help.

Answer:Reinstall XP without original disks?

Technically, yes you can.

Legally, I'm not sure. Maybe if you use another OEM install disk, then yes. But it would take many hours of legal advice to know one possible answer, and it would take a few court cases to get a definitive answer. Asking Microsoft, of course, will yield an answer that might or might not be correct in a court of law.

But from a strictly technical standpoint, yes, you can use an XP install disk of the same type (Home/Pro), enter the product code on the sticker, and have a reasonable expectation that the install - and Microsoft validation - will work. At least, it always has for me in the past.

I am asking this for a friend who cannot even get online. She has an HP PC that is about a year or so old and it was running XP Home. She started running into problems with Internet Explorer and a tech person came to her home and told her she needs to reinstall XP. Unfortunately all of her restore disks and original install disks are in a storage shed somewhere and not readily available. If she could borrow, say, an XP disk from someone at the office, could she use that to repair her OS, or does she have to use the actual disks that came with her specific PC? Also, would an XP disk from a different PC be compatible with her HP computer?

I was given a PC, XP Professional, pre-Service Pack 1, but on a company licence. So I needed my own version with pukka licence key. Following some software installs, Avast and Svc pack 2, now if I load, blue XP desktop, no applications running. I don't have any original disks to correct the 1st version. I've purchased an XP Home (Ver 2002) disk and want to install this (better all round) , but this will only run from a 'new PC' scenario. How do I clean the PC down please, so I can install from the new CD? There aren't any files/applications to save. I've been lent a Knoppix CD, to get onto the Internet.

Thanks in anticipation

Answer:Remove, reinstall XP without original disks

Simply insert the new XP disk, and, providing the bios is set to boot from cd, it will give you this option when you turn the computer on, then when XP setup loads, it will ask you to install windows or repair a current version, select fresh install, then it will ask you partition to use, select the main partition.

Then it will ask you if you want to format or leave the partition intact.

Select format partition with ntfs (quick)

And your away - this will do a fast format deleting everything on the drive and XP will install no problems.

Please be certain though that there is not data you need to save before following these steps!!!

I would like to know, how to completely reinstall laptop with my original disks from Toshiba. Previously Toshiba put back everything to original state on my old computer.

This Toshiba has a drive C: and D: and last time I reinstalled XP SP2, C drive was clean but the D drive still had eveything on it.
In the meantime, I had Acronis installed, and Acronis made a third unallocated drive. that I cannot delete.I want to update to SP3, have disk from Microsoft.

My problem is, that I don't know why the Toshiba disks don't reformat laptop and wipe out everything, including the Acronis partition. I want and have to do this, because of a trojan, that is impossible to remove.

I never had to format a drive, because I always had the OEM disks, so I am sure I would mess up trying it.

Does anyone know, if the Acronis part will disappear and why the D drive still stays with the Toshiba disks compared to previous versions of Toshiba and XP I had?

I do not want to take a chance of having the trojan hiding somewhere.
thanks in advance for any help.

Hi and thanks in advance, I'm trying to help a new friend with PC troubles.
This is a Compaq Presario SR1711NX came w/WinXP HE+SP2 per HP site.
Someone had "fixed" this PC about a 1yr ago, since then it has been showing that Windows might not be genuine, as well as porno pics pop+ups at will.
At first I run MalwareBytes and got rid of viruses. Then I check to see why the "non-genuine" message and realized that WinXP Pro was installed.
The owner did not know nor understand why the message and so he was at a lost on what to do about it, he paid that repair guy.
I could not find D: Recovery Drive on "My Computer", do not know how to check for it any other way, hoping there is something I could do to find out.
How can I reinstall the OS? No recovery discs were done. Is there a way to figure out if recovery still there, as the factory original?
Being that I am a novice at this, I tried to find threads related to these situations but I could not see any quite like it.
Any advice will be much appreciated as well as instructions on how to proceed in how to make this PC work properly and genuine again.
Thanks so much for all the help that I surely will received from you guys.

I have not personally done it, but apparently the activation is handled on Microsoft's side using your hardware ID to activate, instead of a local product key:

So, the best way will be to use the Media Creation Tool from MS to create a disk / USB drive:

Answer:T43p How to reInstall Original Factory Settings

Looks like you may have a hardware error. If the machine is giving blue screen errors while booting into F11 partition, could be the software on the hard drive is corrupt, or the hard drive is faulty. Seeing that your recovery cd's do not work, i would reccomend downloading PC Doc for DOS, burning it onto a cd and running a full recovery. Search in the lenovo search bar on the lenovo.com homepage for 'MIGR-56222' or '56222' the first result should Lenovo support and downloads - PC Doctor for DOS. all the instructions you need to burn and run are on the website.

Anyway it died, and the HDD had to be re-formatted. I tried everything restore it before re-formatting. So after it died since I did not have the restore discs that came it with (hand me down computer from in-laws) I used the XP Home disc that I had with our other computer to boot from.

I booted up, and did the "full-format" of the drive to wipe everything, including the restore points that were useless in the HP restore partitition. I got it all formatted, and then went to install XP from the disc that I used to boot from.

It started to install and then asked me for the cd-key. I typed in the product key that was on the side of the computer, but it says the key is incorrect. I assume if I type in the key from the disc I have it will tell me that key has already been registered before. Do I have any choices, or am I now stuck with a 20lb paperweight unless I buy a new OS?

Thanks for any help

Answer:Reinstall XP on HP-A730N without original XP disc posible?

Not sure on the product key issue but HP shipped me the recovery CD's for free when I purchased the machine at my request. I believe they shipped mine for free since it was a new machine but I remember they sold them for a very reasonable amount at the time. As one option that would include all the drivers for the original machine you may want to contact HP.

I have a ThinkPad X60S that has a recovery CD set that you can create/burn upon initial startup. The discs installs ALL the OE software that came with the system automatically or selectively. THIS INCLUDES THE X60S SERVICE PARTITION, so you can get a brand new hard drive and return to original factory state without any issues. Now with the 3000 K100, I am trying to put a new hard drive in but using the discs that came with the system, it only installs VISTA. The other disc is for device drivers. The other OE software and the LENOVO TOOLS are not even there. Moreover, the SERVICE PARTITION is NOT restored on the new drive. Question: What happens if you have to replace the original drive if it dies?

Answer:Recovery CD/DVD does NOT reinstall original factory settings...

you wont get a service partition on the new drive even if you use rescue and recover.service partitions are only provided with factoryinstalled hard disks..it might not be  a problem after all u got the recovery discs isnt it?

I originally bought a system with Vista. Then I upgraded it to W7 home premium. Then a few years later I did anytime upgrade to W7 pro. I just had to clean reinstall, but realized that my anytime upgrade key for W7 pro won't work to activate. Do I have to go all the way back to Vista (I'd really like to never have that pile of crap on my machine again) or can I just install the W7 home premium ISO from digital river and then do anytime upgrade?

Any tips on how to shortcut this process would be great. Should I just call tech support?

Answer:Clean reinstall - original Vista system now on W7 pro - cannot activat

You could try activating by phoning MS & explaining your problem. If the first technician is not very helpful try again.

You will need to have your Windows 7 Pro activation key ready & you may need Vista & Home Premium keys as well.

hi, a user brought in her older custom-built pc & asked me to reinstall her OS is it was full of viruses, etc. She did not have her installation cd, and no product key or COA sticker either (perhaps the XP Home OEM that?s on there now was an upgrade of an earlier version - I think could have been built before COA stickers were required on side of box). But, in system properties I did find an OEM product key, it is 20 digits long. So I began to reinstall XP Home OEM with one of my cd?s and when it got to the screen where it wanted the product key, it wanted a 25 digit product key. At this point I don?t know what to do. The shop where the customer had the pc build is out of business and they did not give her any of the cd?s that came with her custom-built pc. What to do?  More thinking on the subject, I am wondering why there was no sticker on the case. Possibly the shop that built it was not above-board. That being the possible scenario, I am thinking about interrupting the setup process, fdisking, and installing a retail xp version. I would attempt to do this by removing the hard drive and hooking it up to my other pc through an adapter cable, then deleting the os off it. Don?t know if this will work or not. I want to wipe my 3 year old Dell laptop clean and reinstall the operating system, drivers, etc. Can someone point me to a procedure that will make this as trouble free as possible? What disks should I have on hand, what drivers, etc should be backed up, how many "Hail Mary"'s I should say.
Thanks.

Answer:Dell laptop- wipe clean/ reinstall original

First, if you haven't done a clean install before, check out this guide so you're familiar with what's going to happen. It's a good step-by-step with screen shots.

You can download the drivers from the Dell web site in advance and burn 'em to a CD, or you can use a driver tool like DoubleDriver or Driver Magician or DriverMax (I can personally recommend DriverMax; I've used it, it's excellent!). You can then burn the backed up drivers to a CD, put 'em on a USB flash drive, whatever. Obviously, you'll need your Windows install disc, and you might want to consider creating a Windows install disc with the all the latest updates and service packs 'slipstreamed' in to it. That way you don't have to spend the time to install 'em all later; they get installed when installing Windows. You can also slipstream your drivers in to the Windows install disc, but I haven't done any slipstreaming with drivers so I can't really comment on it. But slipstreaming the service packs and updates is actually really easy. You can use a tool like RVM Integrator to easily slipstream updates and service packs into your XP disc. The developer has some 'pre-built' update packs available; download 'em from this link. Info, FAQs, and how-to's can be found there also. Unless you bought a new XP install disc fairly recently, yours probably contains SP2, so you may want to slipstream SP3 into it. You can download X... Read more

Made several mistakes. Situation now is I had to re-install XP and try as I might it won't let me access my files under my original user name. It keeps saying Permission Denied. I can access Program Files and set up new shortcuts to my programs, so most will be able to work, but the software isn't the issue. I need my files, like taxes and pictures. I used the same name for myself but couldn't remember my original computer name, so now it lists myname.newcomputername. Any suggestions? Still cannot get computer to boot without a boot disc in the drive. Gives me 'loading Grub' then Error 17.

Answer:Cannot access files in directory under original user name after reinstall

Hellp thescarecrow

Take ownership of the folders by right clicking and selecting Properties. Select the Security Tab and click the Advanced button. You'll see an Owner tab so add your User Name to the list

You may need to go to My Computer/Tools/Folder Options/View tab and uncheck "Use simple file sharing" or you won't have a Security tab otherwise.

XP Home
Go to Safe Mode to find the Security Tab

You need to be using an Admin Account to do it.
Once you have given yourself permission you will not get the ?Access Denied? message.

To apply to subfolders check the box "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" before you click ?Apply?

Note
Did you reinstall XP on another partition or drive? If not, you will have a bit of a mess there with two installations of XP.

hello Window Eight Forums.

I have a question about my VAIO Notebook/Laptop. It originally came with a lot of Bloatware installed. Which was hindering its potential performance. So I deleted all partitions, hidden and not hidden including all the recovery partitions that come pre installed on a Sony VAIO laptop. I then reinstalled a clean windows 8 version using A windows 8 retail installation DVD I have.

I contacted Sony support about another issue I am having with my 1TB HDD making clicking sounds and I was told.
"Because I have done the above. I am no longer able to receive support from Sony EU. because I have wiped the recovery partitions and original windows 8. and reinstalled windows 8 Retail. Without contacting Fony."

So this brought me to ask these questions...

Can I reinstall the original Sony VAIO recovery partitions to my already installed windows 8 OS.
and is this even possible ?

Fortunately I created 5 recovery media DVD's not long after first use of my new laptop. These recovery media DVD's are basically a complete backup image of everything on my Hard Drive at the point of recovery media creation time. including the recovery partitions and Windows 8.

Windows 8 seems to be running okay at the moment, so I would rather not have to completely format my HDD (again) and start fresh using the recovery media DVD's I created.

Is it possible to reinstall only the Sony VAIO OEM recovery partitions along side my already installed windows 8 retail Using my... Read more

I have a Windows 7 Pro 32bit ISO that I used to reinstall Windows 7 on my cousin's laptop, he bought his key from the Ultimate Steal and downloaded it through Digital River. I also have Windows 7 Pro 32bit on my laptop from a different ISO purchased through the Ultimate Steal and downloaded through Digital River.

Can I clean install Win 7 on my laptop using my cousin's ISO and my original product key?

I got my original product key using Magical Jelly Bean.

**I plan on using the Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool.

Answer:ISO win 7 - ultimate steal- original product key - complete reinstall?

If you have the legitimate Windows 7 Pro 32 bit key, the media from which you install does not matter. You may even download the Windows 7 Pro 32 bit with SP1 from Digital River - in case your previous download was without SP1 and use that ISO

If for some reason Microsoft's USB/DVD download tool is problematic, ( it happened in my case with a Lexar pendrive) , use the Universal USB installer Universal USB Installer – Easy as 1 2 3 | USB Pen Drive Linux to create the bootable pendrive.

My Satellite U300 (bought in 2008) came with both Vista and a roll-back to XP option, pre-installed. I rolled back to XP at the time. Now Microsoft support for XP has ended, I'd like to re-install the Vista operating system.
I have the recovery discs, but is there a wizard to help with the re-installation?

Or is there a function to restore to the original factory setting, which I assume would be Vista? ( I have backed up all my files in case a clean install is required). Any help appreciated, thanks.

Answer:Satellite Pro U300 - how to reinstall original Vista operating system?

I have checked notebook specification and this notebook model was offered with preinstalled Vista and WXP recovery DVD. Generally speaking original recovery image can be installed with recovery disc. You got notebook with preinstalled Vista (without Vista recovery disc) so you was able to create Vista recovery disc using preinstalled Toshiba recovery disc creator.

There is also HDD recovery option but it works with ?factory settings? only. After WXP installation this HDD option will not work anymore so now you need Vista recovery DVD. Unfortunately in your posting I didn?t understand if you have this Vista recovery disc or not.

If yes, just start your notebook and press F12. When boot menu is shown put Vista recovery disc into optical disc drive, chose CD/DVD on menu list and press ENTER. ODD will start to read recovery disc and all you must do is to follow menu on the screen.

~ Summary: My GOAL is to remove EVERYTHING that is presently on my IBM-refurbished T61 (i.e. all the visible Drives, any hidden partition including the Recovery Partition, malware and rootkits) and to re-install EVERYTHING that was on the computer when I bought it (including all the Drivers/Utilities, and the Recovery Partition).  ~ My Questions are itemized at the end of the post. ~ I have written this post according to the principle "Too much information can be ignored, and is better than too little".  Thank-you. I bought my T61 from the "IBM Refurbished PC" program in February of 2011. I suspect that its software differed from that of a brand new Lenovo T61 in a couple of minor ways. I recently bought the set of XP Pro operating system installation discs for my IBM-refurbished T61. Lenovo Tech Support supplied the Case# and FRU#. IBM Parts Dept sold me the item. I planned to do a "Clean Installation", which I believe means that one completely wipes EVERYTHING from the hard disk before using the installation discs.I planned to wipe with DBAN (a Sourceforge Project software: {http://www.dban.org}) until I read in its FAQ that it does NOT wipe the "Host Protected Area".Further readings seem to indicate that this is the same as Lenovo's Recovery Partition (or is where the Recovery Partition is placed).I understand that the Recovery Partition is the part of the hard disk where Lenovo has put a replacement O.S., so to speak, and that one ... Answer:T61: Fate of original Recovery Partition when reinstall with Lenovo(IBM) installation disc set ?

Hello,

I do not have my T61p with me right now to check this, but there may be an option in the T61's BIOS to reserve space for what's called the Predesktop Area.  If so, try setting it "Disabled" and any space that was reserved will now be reclaimable, and you will be able to wipe it using DBAN.

Hello I upgraded my BIOS recently (I believe from A04 to A06) because I felt it might be needed to support a CPU upgrade.  Problem is, the new BIOS adds no new features that I can see, and takes 10 seconds longer to boot.  Fastboot is enabled.  This is a problem, since I recently installed an SSD and this new BIOS appears to be doing nothing, and is getting in the way of an otherwise lightning fast boot.
What is the correct procedure for restoring the system to the BIOS which it shipped with?  I think I can remove the battery, but is there not a preferred method? Also, it is remotely possible, given the processor upgrade, that the old BIOS will not boot.  I would prefer not to put in the old processor, reinstall the new BIOS, put in the new processor... Decades ago, a floppy disk would have come to the rescue, I believe Dell has a procedure for installing a new BIOS from a flash drive if a system fails to boot, what is the correct procedure?
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Answer:z580 - Which password to use if laptop is in safe mode ideapad z580 ?

hi akshu_13,

Welcome to the Forums.

If you're running on Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1, you should use the same password that you've set on your account.

If you're running on Windows XP, by default, you will see an additional Administrator account and the password is set to none. If you'll be using your own account and not the Administrator one then you should use the same password like in normal Windows.

Note:
Windows 8/8.1 can use a Microsoft Account and a Local Account. If you boot in Safe Mode only (not Safe Mode with Networking), you won't be able to use the Microsoft Account login as it requires internet access to verify your credentials, thus, you will need to use a Local Account.

Let me know if this helps you out.

As the title says, just wondered if theres any lenovo software the works with the z580 ? lenovo companion on windows 8 offers some stuff but its listed as u series ect ? cheers for replys inadvance, mike

Answer:(z580) Just wondered what lenovo software will work with the z580 ?

hi mikee77,

The Lenovo Z580 comes with these lenovo pre-installed apps:

Lenovo OneKey RecoveryLenovo OneKey TheaterLenovo Cloud Storage by SugarSyncLenovo Energy ManagementLenovo Companion

The Lenovo Companion is like an app store the features:

Third-Party Apps and Ads
Lenovo products, Tutorials, Application showcases, Lenovo accessories information, Lenovo Cloud, and a link to Lenovo blogs and articles

Most apps listed on the Lenovo Companion will work on the Z580 as long as it meets the system requirements (i.e. If an app is made only for Touchscreen models, then you will need to get the non-touchscreen version or if there's a Utility app that senses temperature on a specific model, make sure Z580 is on the supported models).

HELP! How to restore  back T61 to original setting ( from original set-up, from newly bought ). It was updated to XP but now i would like to return to VISTA. Please send procedure. The Vantage button is not already working. Problems also on the nav pad.

Answer:HELP! How to restore back T61 to original setting ( from original set-up, from newly bought ).

I don't think you can.  If the ThinkVantage button isn't working, it sounds like whoever installed XP wiped out the recovery partition.  You can buy some Vista recovery CDs from Lenovo for about $50 but, frankly, if XP is working I would stick with it.

I recently downgraded my system from Windows 10 Pro to Windows 10 Home Single Language. I used the default product key to upgrade from Home to Pro. How do I remove that from my system?

Answer:Remove Original Key and Original Edition from ShowKeyPlus

Overwrite "ProductId" and "DigitalProductId in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Registration with those in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion - it will then appear as a clean install.. Remember to backup those registry keys (just making sure you are aware when changing registry stuff..)

So, I will log in to, say, WIndows 7 and take the back up image.. Will that take an image for both OS at the same time? Basic question here is does it image of the Hard disk or each OS.. 2. Or do I have to take a separate image of both after logging into respective OS? 3. If answer to 1 is YES, will that restore both the systems at the same time in future using the One Key Recovery solution? 4. If the answer to 2 is YES, can i restore both the systems individually just by using the One Key Recovery solution? Br, Ajay Maheshwari

Answer:Wifi and bluetooth is not working after upgarding windows 7 home basic to windows 8,,Z580

Hi hemantrocks1990,

First lets check if the drivers for the Wifi and Bluetooth is installed properly under the Windows 8 environment.  On the desktop press the windows key + c, then click on settings, then click on control panel.  Under control panel switch to large icons for view and go to system.  Under system we will have device manager available.

Please check if you can see the category Bluetooth, and the wireless adapter under Network adapters category.  If they are present, go to the properties of wireless adapter and check if the driver version is the latest and if the drivers are installed properly.  The latest Bluetooth driver version for Windows 8 is 12.0.0.1671/8.0.0.206 released 10/24/2012. Here is the link for the drivers.  The latest Wireless driver version for Windows 8 15.5.0.42/6.30.59.26/10.0.0.67 released 10/24/2012. Here is the link for the drivers.

If the drivers are installed properly, then we have to check if we are able to turn on and off the bluetooth or the wireless adapter.  Hit Fn+F5 and see if an interface comes up that gives you radio buttons to turn off or turn on your wireless and bluetooth adapters.  If no interface comes up, you may need to install the Lenovo Energy Management program to enable the hotkeys for turning on bluetooth and the wireless. Here is the link for the Lenovo Energy Management program.

Then I again uninstalled and tried updating from Internet, It does something and then again gives same error. Finally I'm unable to use my BlueTooth. Please advises/help.

Hello, I want to install Windows 7 on Lenovo Z580, but when I let the bios boot, they begin to run Windows 8, please help me :'(

Answer:Boot Windows 7 on Z580

HiThe two causes for this could be that either the usb/dvd is not bootable or you first have to select the usb device from f12 boot menu.See this guide on creating bootable diskhttp://www.google.co.in/url?q=http://bitsquad.co.in/2011/05/windows-7-bootable-usb/&sa=U&ei=CHXmUKv3...Or you could use softwares like microsoft windows to usb/dvd tool or novicorp wintoflash

On a Lenovo IdeaPad Z580 Model 2151 Manufactured 5/6/2012

The computer will not boot. It defaults to the automatic Windows Repair menu.

When I first ran Windows Repair, it said that I have a corrupted mfewfpk.sys file, which is associated with McAfee Antivirus software.

Windows startup repair: ?cannot repair this computer automatically?.

I restored the system to the previous restore point and the one before that with no change.

In the command prompt, if sfc/scannow is chosen it says ?There is a system repair pending that requires reboot to complete. If I reboot the computer, I get the same message. I have done this multiple times. It's stuck in a loop.

When I tried to download a Windows 7 ISO file, Microsoft says to contact Lenovo.  Even if I am able to make a bootable Windows 7 USB drive, would I be able to fix the corrupted mfewfpk.sys file?

Hi, I have a Z580 with an HDD that is going through a life ending experience. At the current time it does not boot. Although I have salveged most of the data off of it I would like to boot it one more time, in order to clone it. I have tried the repair tools, but they are not working. My repair disk relates to Windows 8 so that may explain why it is not working. I have access to the msdn Windows 8.1 install. I attempted to use that to do a reset, but the reset function provides the message that "the media inserted is not valid" even though this is the x64 version of the disk. I am at a loss how to proceed. Any suggestions? Given how well eveything has not worked so far, I am reticent to do a complete reinstall till I have the product key off the BIOS, but all the notes I find on this subject relate to running windows apps to obtain this, clearly something I cannot do right now.  In terms of replacing the HDD, can I simply clone the working hdd (assuming I get it to work) and then just replace, or is there anything else I need to worry about. I have gone through the forum but most of the discussion appears to relate to pre-windows 8.1 OS. Thanks

Solved!

Go to Solution.

Answer:Z580 DyingHDD, windows 8.1

You should be downloading the Win 8.1 64 bit standard or home version.  Your product key should be automatically detected if the OS originally installed is Win 8.1.As to other thing to worry about is the OKR program. It may no longer work after the cloning process.

Hello Yesterday I've got myself a brand new z580. I picked the version with no system, as I already own a copy of Win8.Everything installed properly, but I'm having one extremely annoying problem that practically prevents me from using this laptop. I mean wireless internet... It connected without any problems just after the installation of Win8. Though after literally few minutes I ended up with the limited connectivity problem. I disconnected from the wireless network and connected again and it worked... for another 10-15 minutes. And it's happening all the time. I've been struggling with this problem since yesterday, so here are the things I've already tried:-installing WLAN drivers for Win8 from Lenovo - I get the message that "The setup program for the target device is not found",-downloading all important updates from Windows Update,-installing the chinese Lenovo drivers as I've seen it mentioned on these forums,-disabling IPv6 (through regedit),-disabling the IP Helper service,-disabling the option to let the system turn off the device to save power,-installing drivers for the WLAN from Windows Update. NONE of the above worked. I'm quite sure it's not the router problem, since the internet works perfectly fine on other 3 computers at home (one is XP and 2 are Win7). I'm totally clueless here and extremely annoyed because I actually can't use my new laptop due to this issue... I'd probably consider using Win7 instead, though my main cau... Read more

Answer:Yet another problem with z580 on Windows 8

Unfortunately this sounds like the same problem we are all experiencing.  There is no fix and the work around is to roll back the drivers.  It is not possible to get power management and wifi working together.  So if you need wifi then you need to eliminate the power management. See http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-8/S205-Windows-8-wireless-problem/td-p/884375

before I had win7. But I switched on win8 I can not turn on wifi or BT.and I do not have to turn it magager WiFI and BT. lenovo does not have a driver for it

Answer:Z580 windows 8 WIFI, BT

You must install the Windows 7 version of Lenovo Energy Manager for wifi or bluetooth to work.  The Windows 8 version does not allow you to use fn+f5.  Once you install the Windows 7 version, you can push fn+f5 and activate wifi or bluetooth.  There will be compatibility warnings, but it is the only way to turn on wifi and bluetooth at this time.  Do not reinstall the Windows 8 version until Lenovo updates the software, because you will eventually lose wifi or bluetooth again.  Also, you may need to use a program like Universal Extractor for the install files to extract properly. I hope this helps.  It took me lots of searching to find someone who figured this out.

Hello! I'm thinking about updating my laptop to 8.1. I already had some experience with RTM which was released on MSDN and it was pretty unstable, I had issues with power management, overheating and Bluetooth - all of these worked properly on 8. Is there anyone with Z580 (or similar) with 8.1 on it? I'd like to know if something improved since then.

Answer:Windows 8.1 on Z580 - opinions

I just upgraded to 8.1 It's nice to know that this big update released day after RTM fixes some stuff. Unfortunately, I still have issues with power management. It worked well on both 8, and Linux, but not here. I get only 4h of battery life and my discharge rate is constantly jumping between 10W and 20W - on 8 it was 7-12W. I think it could be an issue with GPU drivers, because I remember having 20W+ discharge rate when using NVidia GPU on Windows 8. Anyone else has this issue?

Hi everyone! Been doing some research but couldn't find a solution to my concern.  I purchased an SSD that I want to use to boot windows 7 from in my 2012 z580, along with an ultrabay.  It seems like the general concensus is it's best to place the SSD in the main drive, and if I want to, place the HDD in the ultrabay.  My questions are: 1)  Would I be able to simple run the recovery partition that's factory installed on the current HDD to install windows 7 on the SSD, and be done with it all?  (Being able to use the SSD as my main boot and "C" drive, and the HDD as a media/storage drive) 2)  Can I take out the HDD, install the SSD, leave the optical bay in and do a clean install of windows?  My research seems like the key for my license is in the UEFI Bios.  And if so, then 3) would I have to reinstall all the drivers for my z580 to function? Thanks for all the help!

If you check the following list, z580 is not supported by Lenovo for Windows 10

I think that might be the reason that your bluetooth is not supported.

Hi there, I recently got the Z580 and since I've had it, there have been problems with connectivity. The main problem is that it disconnects after going to sleep, as well as sometimes not connecting automatically when I turn it on. When either of these things happen, it won't connect at all (even with troubleshooting - windows thinks it's a problem with the router but it definitely isn't) until I restart the laptop, and sometimes I have to do this twice. I have already changed the power settings on the network adaptors to prevent them from turning themselves off in sleep mode, and I've changed the roaming tendency to aggressive but it hasn't solved the problem. Any ideas? FYI, I am not very knowledgeable in this area, so I would appreciate clear instructions if any are given. Thanks very much.

Same issue that you are having,
Resolution was to disable a tray Icon,
Press Windows button + R   >to launch a run box
Type msconfig then hit enter
Go to startup tab and click on Open task manager,
You will have a list of startup items and look for Bluetooth Tray Application
right click on that and choose Disable.

Try restarting and try to trigger a sleep and see if it works.

Answer:z580 webcam not working after windows 8

Try this: 1) uninstall the drilvers. (restart if it asked)2) let windows install it's default drivers and see if that works.
