Preferred Solution: can not install windows 7 for Z580, access denied.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: can not install windows 7 for Z580, access denied.

Have you tried tuning off UEFI under boot in the bios, also see if their is an secure boot option turn it off also if there is. John.

I get this error, "Windows cannot install printer. Access is denied." when trying to install a printer usins an admin account.
The OS is Win 7 Pro 32. Everything was working last week, then the printers stopped working. There is a Brother MFP and a Zebra label printer. I re-downloaded the correct 32bit drivers from the manufacturers and re-installed. When I try to add the printer I get Windows cannot install printer. Access is denied.
I created a new Administrator account. Same problem.
I ran superantispyware, malwarebytes, AVG, and CCleaner.
I went into the GPedit.wsc and made sure the Administrative Templates were not Preventing addition of printers. I even toggled it on> rebooted, toggled it "not configured"> rebooted.

Any suggestions?

Answer:Windows cannot install printer. Access is denied.

I'm still looking for some help with this. Any suggestions? Do I need to give more information?

I have seen a number of posts about this topic here and elsewhere, but none of the solutions seem to work for me. I am running WinXP, SP2 on a Dell PC, IE 7. I have tried a number of times to install SP3, all of which fail. During the "Backing Up Registy" process I get 9 different access denied messages all starting with HKCR.wdp. I select Ignore after each of them and the install process continues until about 2/3 of the way through the installation process when I get another Access Denied and the only option is to undo the installation.

Even though I own the PC and had not problems downloading SP2 and other things in the past, I tried logging in Safe Mode as Administrator, which got the same results.

I have purchased and run RegCure, which apparetntly cleaned up a lot of stuff but did not help with this problem.

Based on recommendations from MS Support I tried to reset registry permissions for .wdp by going in the register editor (regedit), and right clicking on .wdp. I just got a message "Cannot Open .wdp: Error While Opening Key"

MS Support also recommended I reset my OS security settings back to default by opening a cmd and type secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\repair\secsetup.inf /db secsetup.sdb /verbose, and then press ENTER. The message back was "secedit' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

Does anyone have any other ideas????

I'm working on a laptop and I noticed the USB ports aren't working. I went into device manager and they all have exclamation points next to them. I deleted them all and rebooted. Windows tried to reinstall them but couldn't and told me Access was denied. I've never heard of or encountered this issue before. Any help?

Answer:Windows won't install onboard USB controllers - Access denied

Well, I do not know if you have service pack 2 installed but I will give you this fix and hope it works.

Removing and reinstalling the USB devices may be necessary, but I'd recommend following this procedure to ensure it is done thoroughly: Let's go for the "complete" USB driver renewal and see if that helps.

Please print this article for Reference

Create a file with NOTEPAD containing the following lines and save it as FIX.REG
-------------------------- cut after this line --------------------------------

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment]

-------------------------- cut before this line --------------------------------

Double click on FIX.REG and say yes to the Merge Into Registry question.

Unplug ALL USB devices.
Open Device Manager.
View, Show Hidden Devices.
Uninstall all devices under USB Controllers.
Uninstall all devices under Disk Drives that you know are not present.
Uninstall all devices under Storage Volumes. Say no to any reboot prompts until you are finished. Also, if a Storage Volume doesn't uninstall, ignore it and move to the next one.
If you have a yellow ? with unknown devices, uninstall all of the entries there as well.

When this is done, reboot TWICE.

Reconnect the USB devices and see if they're recognized properly.

Okay so my system recently crapped it's pants, forcing me to reinstall windows. The way I went about this is by purchasing a new 500 GB Hard drive to add on to the hard drive that contained the corrupt install of Windows. I then installed windows on the new 500 GB Hard drive, and copied over all of my user files, etc. The problem i'm having now, is that I have access denied errors to all Read-Only files when I try to delete or change them in any way. I have already deleted the windows folder on the other drive, though it still asks me to select my OS at boot; Windows XP Home Edition, or Windows XP Home Edition. I will check the boot.ini to try and fix that issue. But i'm posting about the read-only files, what can I do? I tried the program called "unlocker" but that didn't help me. Also, killbox.exe can't kill read-only files on boot.

Answer:Solved: Clean install of Windows XP, ACCESS DENIED!

the first thing i'd try doing is taking ownership, if ever i get denied access to a file its the first quick step I take. Take a look at the explanation from MS and see if that helps.

Good morning.

I have a computer system that has had multiple viruses over the past 6 months. It seems like everytime I clean it, another virus pops up, almost always of the fake anti-virus variety.

This week I was called into the users office, and found the system in a loop. Starting Windows XP, then rebooting. After trying multiple times to get into safe mode, or boot normally, or anything I resorted to using the Windows XP cd and repairing the XP installation. This at least allowed me to boot into Windows again, but there are still issues.

I can not get into Internet Explorer, clicking on the icon results in "Internet Explorer has encountered a problen and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

The display drivers are not installed, and any attempt to install them results in an error stating that access is denied. Looking at the serupapi log, i can see that access is being denied when trying to do anything with igfxcui in the registry. If I browse to that location in regedit, i can not see the properties because I don't have access to it. (I am logged in as the administrator by the way).

I have installed Google Chrome as a way to get online with this sytem, and have had sporadic instances where I am being redirected to the wrong website after clicking a link in Google.

I have scanned the system with MBAM, SuperAntiSpyware, and AVG without any luck.

I have been working on running the Windows Updates, bringing it up to SP3, etc. There... Read more

So I was trying to update my drivers on my NVIDIA GeForce 970 graphics card. For some weird reason it failed every attempt no matter what I did. I spent hours looking online at peoples suggestions: I tried uninstalling everything, and reinstalling it. I
tried a "Clean Install". And then I tried using this DDU program which was a huge mistake since now my graphics card doesn't show up in my Device Manager, and it is permanently stuck on using the default video drivers (so my resolution is HUGE).
The DDU also erased all of my System Restore points, so there was no way for me to reverse the issue...
Then I read that I could try going into the device manager and manually installing the graphics drivers to fix the issue...However, seeing as how my Nvidia Card isn't showing up on the Device Manager I was assuming there was no way for me to do this. I decided
to try anyway by righ clicking on the "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" and directing it to the Nvidia folder that has the drivers that I want to install.
It then said,
"Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970

Access is denied.

If you know the manufacturer of your device, you can visit its website and check the support section for driver software."

I have the driver software, its just telling me that my access is somehow denied. So what is going on? I'm very frustrated as I've been working... Read more

One of our users tried to log in today and got the following message when doing so...

The Group Policy client service Failed. Access is denied

It happens on all of the PCs he has tried. Could it be a roaming profile issue?

Others can log in on these PCs ok.

I have had a look at his AD account and that looks ok to me.

Any ideas? All of the answers I have found on Google have either been about the PC in question or for windows 8.

1st noticed when I plugged in my iPhone & instead of the ususal little popup box asking what to do with pictures (can't recall what it's actually called) it now comes up with New Hardward Found.

The iPhone syncs ok with iTunes as the "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" is ok in Device Manager & I can transfer music & videos etc

However the "iPhone" shows an exclamation mark in Device Manager - which is the camera drivers, meaning it doesn't show as a drive in My Computer.

Whenever I plug my iPhone into the USB it always comes up with new hardware found & tries to locate the drivers, it does this ok but when installing them it always come back with the message "access is Denied" I have tried reinstalling them from within Device Manager as well but get the same message.

I have also plugged in a USB card reader previously unused on the laptop to check if it was just my iPhone & again it finds it as new hardware & tries to install the drivers but again comes back with "Access is Denied" So it's not related to just my iPhone, it looks like is related to USB devices.

I have tried using a different USB port (There are 3) one of which has the mouse plugged into & the mouse works ok, the other has a bluetooth dongle in it & that works ok as well.

I have turned off User Account Control & this has made no difference.

I have got Avira & Comodo Firewall installed & have also... Read more

Answer:Windows Vista is saying "Access Denied" when trying to install drivers for USB device

Download the driver EXE file & save to desktop. RIGHT-click on desktop EXE icon, select "Run as Administrator"

That might do it, but COMODO either is or will be a problem. It's firewall does not play nice with Vista and causes system services to crash. All 3rd party firewalls have this problem if not completely configured properly for NETBIOS ports in particular. If 1st suggestion does not work - remove comodo.

I have a newly purchased HP Deskjet 3050A e-All-in-One Printer series - J611 which should be working with Windows 7, but when I try to install the device drivers I get a "Access is denied" error.

How can this be bypassed or fixed?

Answer:Cannot install HP printer drivers - "Access is denied" in Windows 7

Exactly how are you installing the driver?

Make sure the printer is switched off and is not connected by a USB cable.

When you attempt to install the driver, right-click it first and choose Run as Administrator. During the install, you'll be prompted when to switch the printer on and connect it.

You also need to make sure you are installing the 32-bit version of the driver as you have Windows 7 32-bit.

I am advanced user. Never had any problems with any Windows computers. Now I can not fix my own problem.
I can not install anything on my PC. I am allways getting errors.
For example: When I am trying to install Adobe Reader, I am getting Error 1406. Could not write value tWhiteList to key \Software\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\11.0\FeatureLockDown\cDefaultExecMenuItems.
When I am trying to install iTunes, I get error in the end (without number, just error) etc.

It makes me think, that it is not problem of software that I am installing, It is problem with Windows. I think something is wrong with permissions.
After this problem appeared, I changed Owner from SYSTEM to Administrators - no luck.
I disabled my Eset Smart Security - no luck.
I was running all setups as Administrator - no luck.
I scanned my system with Malwarebytes - nothing.
I went through many tutorials - nu luck. Mr. Google did not help.

I'm currently running the x64 version of XP Pro. Whenever I try to install SP2 it works away for a few minutes then tells me "Access Denied". I click OK and it uninstalls as it should.

I've followed the instructions in the Microsoft help files but I'm running into a small obstacle.

In order to find whatever drivers might be hindering the process I've tried to enable verbose logging, however as soon as I install SP2 it reverts itself back to the default setting (0 rather than 0000FFFF).

Just to make sure I have checked setupapi.log and it's not displaying the information that I need.

I've even reset my registry permissions and still no luck with the service pack.

I do have SP1 installed at this time if that makes a difference. I've also tried downloading SP2 through the updater as well as downloading it directly, and, of course, I received the same error.

I definitely appreciate any help and suggestions you might have.

I installed windows 7, on the first boot I could access my D drive which is the drive that contains all media, files, resumes, etc etc etc. Windows 7 itself is on the C drive. I rebooted, and I open up 'computer' and now the D drive just says 'D:\ (Spare) NTFS' if I try to open or browse it says 'Access Denied' in a pop up window.

If I try to change the drive letter in disc management; 'Virtual Disk Manager: The parameter is incorrect'

If I right click the drive and access security it says I don't have permission to view security and that I should try to take ownership. If I try to take ownership; 'access denied' Windows 7 literally stole all of my stuff. I suspect it's still in there but I cannot access it. The windows vista I installed on that drive as a work around incase I needed to grab drives and 7 couldn't get online, loads from that inaccessable drive, but cannot browse it. So i know it's intact and has the files on it.

Is there a way to brute force my way into it. it's my stuff and I want it.

This is a fairly long story and a problem that is really angering me because I have very valuable documents I need to retrieve. Any help at all is welcomed greatly!

Ok so I'm on my normal machine doing normal stuff and my computer had some bad RAM so it was restarting, I was used to this for a few days and was planning on buying new RAM pretty soon. But before I had to chance to get new RAM the computer restarts one more time but this time when it boots back up all my windows XP user accounts are _gone_. They are not on the "friendly" login screen nor can I login to them through safe mode in the normal login box. This sucks. So I say "hey ill just slap this drive in another machine and get the docs I need" So I put the drive as a secondary on this machine.

Now I'm on the other machine with the win XP installation as a secondary drive (The one with the docs I need on it). Logged on an administrator account and when I try to go in the My Documents folder in the other drive of the other win XP installation I get access denied!

What Ive Tried-
Making an admin account on this machine with same username and pass of the corresponding my documents folder that was on the other installation.

Setting up an FTPd locally and trying to list the dir, still no luck.

Please help.

I am having an issue with my pc not allowing other software within to run/install
It may be due to permissions violations, but I have set them (and the subdirectories) as an administrator user.
I have found I can do some things if I download in any user, but run in safe mode.  But, when I return to the non-safe mode, I cannot do it again...and some things are no longer available.
All this became obvious when a popup taking me to showed up and I could not run McAfee OAS, run SUPERAntispyware free addition and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.  Additionally, Windows tries to update every time (with 7 updates) the pc is shut down...even if I start up and shut down immediately after rebooting.
Updating any of the antivirus and antimalware is futile.
How can I start remediation of this problem?

Hi, I tried to reinstall my wireless card (since it was playing up) but it won't let me. The reinstallation failed (and repeatedly does so) declaring that access was denied (no other error displayed). I have tried uninstalling the driver and restarting, uninstalling and installing without rebooting, almost everything I can think of, including 'add new hardware'. This is quite frustrating as it spoils the point of having a laptop having to run a long cable to the router... I have also downloaded the latest drivers, and tried those on the original disk, neither worked. I have Windows MCE 2005. Thanks

On a fresh xp pro installation, I adjusted the resolution, mouse speed, then went into device manager, clicked my unrecognized wireless card, updated the driver using cd (normal procedure for those who don't want the systray app). It seem to install like normal but upon reboot, after the loading splash screen for windows i got a few nanoseconds of blue screen before it would reboot. I let it reboot a few times before resorting to using "last known good configuration" as the boot option.

After using this option, I no longer have "Access" to this driver. It will recognize and attempt to install, but after the first progress bar with the detected hardware name, I get the error window. (error reports within the Found New Hardware Wizard dialog window)

I attempted to restore the file per the below url, but it didn't work.

hi, i can't seem to install sp2 on my computer, and after the wizard is inspecting my system configurations and whatnot, an error window pops up: access is denied.
i did a complete cleanup of the system before i installed sp2, including a safe mode+ad aware, spybot, norton antivirus, and hijack this. i even did an online panda antivirus scan.

actually i opened up the svcpack.log and here is a full description of the error:

can anyone diagnose what's preventing the installation?

I have ran the sfc /scannow. I have replaced the file with the one off the CD.

Dear all,

I'm running Windows XP on a high specced desktop pc, 200 gb total partitioned hdds, 512 RAM, 3.3 processor.

A friend gave me an internal DVD RW drive, but because I have a desktop, no stack, I bought a safecome 5.25 susb2-525acf portable adapter box, so the internal drive can run externally, and sits in the box, plugged into the power.

The problem is, when I try to install the DVD RW Drive, it shows up as a 'Pioneer dvd rw' rather than a Teac DV-W50D, and tells me 'access is denied' 'cannot install hardware'.

The Portable adapter box seems to be installed ok.

What do I do to gain access and install my DVD RW Drive after plugging it into it's portable box?

Thanks for reading

Answer:Access is denied, cannot install dvd rw drive

I'm not sure what you mean by ^this^, Keira.

What is the reason that you haven't installed the new drive into the case of your desktop machine? Is there a drive already installed, or is there simply no 5?" drive bay for it to go into? That's probably going to be the best way to install the drive.

The fact that it's showing up as an entirely different model is a sign that the installation has failed in some way, so you're going to have to carry that out again. I'd suggest fitting the drive inside the case (if that's possible) rather than in the external case; sometimes external drive bays can be a little flaky, plus I'd be looking to eliminate that from the troubleshooting steps.

Also, in order to install the drive correctly, you're going to need to be logged in with an account that has 'Load and Unload Device Drivers' allowed on it; usually (but not exclusively), this would need to be a member of the local administrators group; can you confirm that you're logged in with such an account whilst attempting the install?

Sirs and ladies:I'm running XP Home Edition on an aging HP xt948 desktop with 1 gig. of RAM and a 80 gig. harddrive. After re-installing the OS, I cannot access my former Owner's folder. Anytime I try to install any program I get this error:
Setup was unable to create the directory "E:\Program Files..."
Error 5: Access is denied.
I have not made any recent changes to my firewall, or antivirus... but I did delete some empty "temp" folders on my C: drive "documents & settings" area, because I thought they were useless.
I've been reading up on this error, and I think deleting those folders may have caused the problem, but I'm not sure. I don't remember where they were, and I'm not sure if it's as simple as just re-creating the folders again.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

Answer:Error 5: Access is denied when try to install programs

You should be installing to C:\Program Files not E:
Did it really say E:? Try a Custom install to C:
It may be a problem with redirects from legacy Documents and Settings junction point that you have deleted
Try Recuva Free from a Flash Drive to get the deleted items back (check they are not in Recycle Bin first)

I hope this is the right place for this question...didn't see another sub-forum that sounded appropriate.

Today I was having networking problems, and thanks to some help over on the Networking sub-forum, changed my workgroup to MSHOME so I could see Windows XP systems on my network from my new HP Windows 7 (Home Premium) laptop. Good stuff.

However...I may have broken something pretty serious. My account is set up as an administrator, and I have always been able to do whatever I desired on my system. Now I can't install programs at all. Every one I try, I get an "access is denied" message. For example, when I try to (re)install winmail-reader-setup.exe, I get "Unable to execute file in the temporary directory. Setup aborted. Error 5: Access is denied"

What in the world have I done?! I have checked my account, folder privileges, etc, and nothing looks amiss except that I have two "unknown" user accounts that I haven't seen before...not sure how those got there. But I'm running with my own account, with full privileges, administrator access.

Any ideas?

Thanks very much!

My parents have a linksys USB wifi network adapter, and for some reason it just stopped working last night out of nowhere...It's running on an XP Pro system.

But I've gone into Device Manager to try and "reinstall" the driver, and using the (Automatic) setting, I'm ending up with an access denied error.

I am logged into an Administrator account too...I even went as far as booting into minimal network/Safe mode, to try and install it but still no go; same error; stating Im not an Administrator.

And for some reason it appears my "Administrator" account (only appears on the login list in Safe Mode) has been password protected....
So either, I need to figure out what is locking MY Administrator account from installing these drivers, or find a way to reset the "Administrator" account password.

It's an Acer desktop, going on 2 years old in August (though who knows how long it was on their shelf )

I've even went as far as trying to plug it into other USB ports, thinking some were bad, but my USB pen drive works fine in them so they aren't faulty ports.

ps. the mouse works just fine in games, buttons, movement etc. in both pc. the driver program is just for the miscellaneous options lilke lighting dpi change etc.

Hi -

Download the Razer Naga drivers directly from Razer and install -,76

As for the CD install, RIGHT-click on setup.exe, select "Run as Administrator"

Hi Team,

I Recently offered to help my sister who dropped her monitor (CRT) off the table - while it was connected to the motherboard, causing damage to that.. So I just bought an upgrade pack (CPU, RAM, SATA HDD and the motherboard) Replaced and installed windows xp media centre edition SP3 on the new sata HDD, all works fine.

All I want to do is grab the files (music and pictures) from the old IDE HDD which is sitting there and accessible save for the files under the user my sister had created. It displays a standard access is denied message.

How can I open this up considering it is on the old installation of windows? (which will not boot due to hardware swap, it keeps looping).

Answer:Solved: Access is denied (fresh OS install on new HDD)

You need to connect the old hard drive to to the new computer as a second drive. Then take ownership of the files and folders you wish to copy to the new drive. Here is how:

Hi everyone,

Ok so i am he one and only admin on my system i have windows 7 64 bit and when i try to install anything i get access is denied I've tried changing permission's on the file's and that didn't work, Also tried running as administrator still didn't work I've been struggling with this for the last few days and i have updates piling up. and this is also effecting my final year in college by needing to download some programs for it... any help is appreciated and i hope we can solve this problem,

thank you

Answer:Access is denied error as administrator(cant install anything)

The "real" Administrator account in Win7 is hidden from view. You have to "unhide" it in order to login as the real Administrator.

When you go to install anything, you should right-click on the setup file and choose "Run as Administrator". That will temporarily give you elevated rights to install stuff.

If that does not work, there are other problems.

Hey guys, I've got something nasty...

I've been following through the Remove Windows Recovery tutorial, but am getting stuck. I have all the executable files on infected computer ready to run, and I am in safe mode. Problems follow:

*Running Rkill - Either says Installation failed, or I get to the cmd.exe box -> Preparing Rkill -> then Access denied - I have tried Rkill under many different secret names, get same message.
Processes terminated by Rkill or while it was running:

- This is all, but it fixes nothing.

*Cannot install Mbam-setup.exe says Installation failed
*All files on computer are hidden, i can unhide them, but the virus is also doing this
*Running unhide.exe -> Everything unhidden now
My question is, where do I go from here? Thank you all ahead of time.

I'm fairly sure I have the HDD malware - getting errors - windows can't find hard disk space, damaged hard drive clusters - private data at risk etc. Have seen a mention on here with the same errors.

I've copied rkill to a usb stick and can run it on my laptop - but get access denied error - but it does seem to run. The only process it says it kills is a symantec blah blah.

When I try and install malware from the stick - it goes all the way through the install process till the end - then again, I get access denied error and it rolls back.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

I am trying to install a network printer (Dell 1350cnw Color Laser) on a Vista computer (HP a1730n) that is part of my WORKGROUP home network. The printer is installed and physically connected to a Windows 7 computer (HP Pavilion 6710) on my network. The method I used for installing the printer was found on the Internet and consisted of going to "printer" on the Control Panel, then clicking on "Add a printer" and then on "Add a local printer". On the resulting screen I selected "Create a new port" and clicked on "Next" without changing anything in drop-down menu. A new window followed with an input field for port name, and in it I typed the name of the computer (to which the printer is physically connected) and the name of the printer, using the following format: \\computer name\printer name. I then clicked on "OK" and expected to see a list of available printers. Instead I received the message "Access is denied". This problem is specific to the Vista machine, as I have used the same method as described above to successfully install the same printer on another computer in my homegroup running Windows XP. I would be very thankful for any idea on how to solve the problem!

Answer:Access is denied when trying to install network Printer

If you have the DVD that came with the printer use that
If not go to the website of the Printer and just download the driver from there.

If it is an old printer, you may have to use compatiblity mode and download an XP driver
Disconnect every thing from the computer except, internet, keyboard and monitor and mouse.

Hi everyone - I have a beauty if anyone can help.

Story so far ( I'll try to keep it short )

had drive problems with PC so got new SSD drives and a Hybrid drive.
All new drives so did tortuous route install win7 - upgrade to win 8.0 all worked then started acting up. My tech support worked on it for 2 days and gave up said I should backup and do a clean install from start. So I did.
Not yet put any backup files on so only operating system and devices (printer, wireless keyboard/mouse, wireless headset and 3webcams ( One Pluscom and two PCline ) checked device manager and found cameras with yellow exclamation mark and checked properties and saw this webcam.JPG . Contacted my tech support again they gave up after 20 mins and guess what they suggested. gave appropriate answer which ended in off and went to Microsoft answer desk. After chatting for 1 hour 40 still no further other than some services which should have been running were not so he suggested starting services and check windows update. download, install and do a reboot and see what happens. If I would purchase a support plan from them then they would connect to my PC and troubleshoot and sort.

Not willing / able to pay $150 at moment so I have come to the REAL expert for some help.

I am obviously logged in as admin as I am the only user who Can use PC and checked permissions which are OK all users having full access.

Hoping someone has an idea before I go completely bald / mad ( as in do lally not angry )

After a new WinXP Pro sp3 installation, I no longer had internet access. I discovered that the network card (Ethernet Controller) wasn't installed. I had the motherboard (Asus P4PE) CD so I tried to install the LAN drivers but everytime I try, whether from the CD or from a folder on the hard drive, I get the same error message telling me that Access is Denied. I've tried in Safe Mode, but that didn't help.

I've checked some User Permissions, in Local Security Policy (Administrative Tools) and I seem to have permission to install and uninstall drivers. But I'm not very familiar with Permissions and Access Rights so I need some help with this.

I've also run Dial-a-fix, but it didn't find any problem with permissions.

Can someone help with this, my computer is pretty useless without internet access.

Thanks, John

Answer:Can't install network card drivers, Access is Denied

I'm now gone into the registry and checked the permissions for PCI. The admin is set for Full Control, and I'm the administrator. I tried changing Everyone else from Read to Full Control permissions, but that didn't make any difference. So I'm still stuck on this.

BTW, I was able to install the Soundmax drivers (integrated sound chip) from the Asus P4PE installation CD.

I want you to run TDSSKiller so refer to the below for how to do so.

TDSSkiller - How to run

Please also download MBRCheck to your desktop

Double click MBRCheck.exe to run (vista and Win 7 right click and select Run as Administrator)
It will show a Black screen with some information that will contain either the below line if no problem is found:
Done! Press ENTER to exit...

Or you will see more information like below if a problem is found:
Found non-standard or infected MBR.
Enter 'Y' and hit ENTER for more options, or 'N' to exit:

Either way, just choose to exit the program at this point since we want to see only the scan results to begin with.
MBRCheck will create a log named similar to MBRCheck_07.16.10_00.32.33.txt which is random based on date and time.

When I try to install a new printer driver, or change an existing driver, I'm getting "Cannot install Printer.  Access is denied".  There is no GPO applied to this machine, it's a member of a workgroup.  The Package Point and Print
GPO setting was set to disabled just in case.
The user in question is part of the Administrators group, but just to be safe, I logged on as administrator and got the same message.

This is the trojan that looks like it's trying to fix you computer - and it causes files to disappear and error messages etc.

Before I realized how deep this rabbit hole goes I ran a scan with MSE and it discovered a fakesysdef trojan which it removed but still I can't view my files.

After that I downloaded malwarebytes but it won't install - I am getting an "Access is denied" error.

Attached is the output from DDS.

Answer:Display Recovery + fakesysdef + malwarebytes install Access is denied

It turns out that I got it all put back together. MSE removed the virus that hid all the files and shortcuts so it didn't start up after a fresh boot. After that I ran mbam-clean.exe to resolve the malware bytes install access denied error. Then I installed malwarebytes, did a scan and removed one infection in the registry. Next I ran unhide.exe to restore visibility to all my files, desktop, etc. The only things missing were start menu items (All programs was fully restored) and the task bar items. Maybe MSE gobbled them up.

Anyway - all is well.

Hello Again

As the subject suggests, I have had to re install Windows 7 Enterprise and it seems to have lost part of the partitioned drive. As per the picture the PS3 drice and Panthro drives are part of an internal hard drive, when I click on it I get the error message?

Would be very grateful if someone would spare the time to help me.

Answer:Fresh Install Win 7 Enterprise- 1 part of partition access denied

Are you using Enterprise for a particular reason? You could try scf /scannow and see if it will repair corrupted files.

Good morning,I have a system that has had numerous issues, mainly virus related. I have cleaned the system, and show no virus activity... but I'm still having issues.Late last week the system was stuck in a loop, it wouldn't boot to Windows at all (no safe mode, no normal mode). I resorted to a Windows repair from the install disk. It worked... to a certain degree. I am now able to get into Windows, but can not open IE and I can not install a display driver.I am unable to access Windows Update, but was able to set automatic updates to install lots of updates including SP3, but I am still unable to make any changes.Initially when I attempted to open IE I would get a window saying that IE had to close instantly. I attempted to reinstall IE, and I attempted to install a newer version of IE. Neither worked. If I chose to install the updates with the install I would get an access denied error, if I chose not to install the updates with the install it would look like it worked, but now when I click on IE I get "Error loading C:\WINDOWS\System32\inetcpl.cpl. The operating system cannot run %1"In device manager, I have no drivers installed on my display adapter. If I try to update it, it looks like it's going to install... but then I get "Cannot install the hardware. Access is Denied".Any assistance or insight into this would be appreciated.

Answer:Unable to access IE, access denied when updating display drivers, no windows update

On any system with a number of's often better to do a clean install to wipe the slate clean, rather than hope that you have patched all known and unknown issues, IMO.

I'm visiting a family member in Russia whose computer seems to have several Trojans, as well as a large number of adware and malware programs installed.

I first tried installing malwarebytes but the installation instantly stops and tells me that it cannot create a temp file as access is denied.

This happens with every security program I've tried to install.

This also happens in safe mode.

When I tried running TDSSKiller, nothing happened. No windows opened.

When I tried running ESET online scanner, it tells me I'm not connected to the Internet.

HitmanPro shows the following:

After the free 30 day trial activation, I am not able to run HitmanPro to remove those threats. It's stuck on the activation page and says it's not activated.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Unable to install any security programs - temp access denied + adware

Hi, everyone,

I'm mostly a Linux guy these days, so I'm no longer clued up about even simple Windows issues. Bear with me.

I have one PC running Vista (home basic), one running XP (professional) and one running Windows 7 (home basic). There is a printer connected to the Vista box, which is shared.

On the XP box I can both see and use the printer on the Vista box (i.e. a "net view \\vistabox" shows the printer, and under "printers and faxes" I can install and use it).

On the Windows 7 box, however, I can see the Vista box (i.e. a "net view" shows it in the list of available PCs on the network) but a "net view \\vistabox" gives me an "access denied" error.

The Windows 7 machine has a password on it, the Vista and XP machines don't. All machines are on the same workgroup name (which is "WORKGROUP"). On the XP box I don't need a password to access the shared printer on the Vista machine; it just works.

Extensive Googling has failed to render enlightenment, nor has browsing this forum. I'm sure it has something to do with security and passwords, somewhere, somehow, but I have no idea in which direction to look for it, let alone fix it. I have also read some things about workgroups and homegroups not being the same in Windows 7, but I'm not sure if this is correct (and if so, relevant).

All suggestions on where to go from here would be greatly appreciated!

Hello I have purchased new Laptop z580.It cames with Windows 8..I want to install Windows 7. But unable to install it... I have set Admin Password and then disable Secure Boot.and in a Boot Menu I have set type to Legacy..from UEFI somethingThen I have again one more Option Like Boot Prioritty : in which UEFI Support and Legacy Support Which I have to choose. When I select Legacy Support in Both then try to install Windows 7. but I am getting error like Unable to install Windows on selected Partition.  "windows cannot be installed on this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style."  Can anyone suggest right steps to do that.? I have taken recovery of Windows 8 to USB. and I don't want to temper with the Recovery..How to install Windows 7 into Lenovo Z580?

Answer:lenovo Z580 install windows 7

Hello and welcome,
You are probably getting that message because you are running the install in legacy mode but the the HDD is GPT partitioned.
You could boot in UEFI mode (not secure boot) and run the install.
You can run the install as you are in legacy mode but drop to DISKPART and convert the drive to MBR. It might also be sufficient to just select the advanced partitioning options and remove all the partitions.
Either way you'll lose the on-disk recovery options.  Don't lose that USB drive.

I am running on windows 10 and recently upgraded from windows 7. After having alot of problems with my files being read-only after the upgrade I decided to look at the security permissions and somehow accidentally removed myself as an owner to C:\ (I am the admin user) Clicking on C:\ results in access denied, going into advanced properties of the drive and trying to change any security setting results in the window freezing up for a while then saying access denied, no editor control.
I have tried going through command prompt in safe mode and entering NET USER Administrator /active:yes, NET STOP ProfSvc, access is still denied even in the command prompt on the new administrator user.
I have no idea what to do anymore, I've searched the internet for solutions and found nothing.

Hello. I have a folder share on my Windows 7 computer and I was trying to access it with a Windows XP Home computer in the house. However, I kept getting an "Access Denied" error whenever I tried to write to the folder. How can I fix this?

Also, sometimes when accessing .zip files and .exe fines from one XP Home computer to another XP Home computer, I get a "Unspecified security risk" and "Access denied" error respectively. How do I fix this?

Answer:Access Denied error when trying access Windows 7 folder from Windows XP

multiple levels of controls here

the XP needs the LLTP service from SP3 to be able to share w/ win7

there are two layers of access for share resources:

the network access
the NTFS access
The simplest solution is to use Simple Sharing and share via the All Users\Shared Documents\ directory. The Admin can set Allow Modifications (or not as needed),
which create the NTFS perms for the <Everyone> group.

So, *IF* you have network access (you can see the shared folder and it's contents),
then the NTFS permissions are the controlling factor.

IF not, the the network access is in control and you need to figure out Simple Sharing vs not-so-simple and those requirements

The best way to dusal boot a NTLDR os(Win XP) and a BOOTMGR os(Win 8,7,Vista) is to install the ntldr os first and then the windows 8 os. Orelse it could be difficult to use win 8 after win xp installtion though it is possible by using boot sector restoration tool. this helps

Story: my company got two Z580 for me and my collegaue. His was Windows 7 edition (Win7 sticker at the bottom), mine Windows 8 edition (Win8 sticker at the bottom). Since we use Windows 7, I had to reinstall the system (to Windows 7). Everything went fine to the point when I had to install Nvidia drivers. The installer states that I don't have compatible hardware. This is odd becuase I have also Nvidia "Geforce with CUDA" sticker, and even BIOS knows I have dual card (Optimus). Windows by itself detected Intel chip and unknown VGA one. I tried Lenovo drivers (for Nvidia) and also the ones grabbed directly from Nvidia site. Any help/hints are greatly appreciated.Thank you in advance.

Answer:How to install Nvidia driver for Z580 (Win8 version) with Windows 7 Pro?

Welcome to the forum.
Try updating the chipset driver, Intel graphic driver and then the Nvidia driver. Nvidia will not get installed without the Intel graphic driver. Also make sure that switchable graphics is enabled in BIOS. Here is the link with all compatible drivers.
Please let me know, If the issue is not resolved. Also let me know is it 32-bit OS or 64-bit?

OK, first of all I can't access my slave drive through newly installed Windows 7. I have taken ownership and have full rights. Bios detects it and jumpers, cables, etc. are all in order. I keep all my photos and mp3's on it so reformatting is not what I want to do. Need to get the data off and on to my external. When I go to Start menu and click on Computer, it says it is there, but 0 bytes and the graph is empty. Access Denied. When I go through Disk Management, It shows the right amount of disk space used but can't access it. I can run check disk and defrag, but no access. I have read forums for days but no one has the answer. Like I said, I have full ownership and child rights and so on. I am the admin and the only one with an account. I am baffled. I don't understand why it shows up in Disk Management and not under Computer. I have tried every little back door trick I know to get in and it won't let me. Help me.

Answer:Access Denied Windows 7

Try a linux live cd to see if you can access the data there.

My gut feeling is that it is showing in disk management in RAW format. If this is the case and a live cd cannot access it you will need to format and use a disk recovery program like Recuva - Download to recover your data. Unfortunately if a drive goes raw this is the only way to access your data.

Thanks in advance I hope my explication is clear

Answer:How to denied other pcs to access windows 7 pro?

This question comes up all the time, twice just last week in fact.

Unfortunately this is not an easy process because as you found out the individual user names are not on the permissions list unless you create another user account on the same machine and then share though those user names you wish to share with. You have to do this with all the machines you intend to do this special secret share with.

The way it is now, you can only share with Everyone or nobody unless you create two user accounts on which ever machines you need to share with.

Tim Stitt wrote this up awhile back, and I wish there was a better way to do this but there simply is not.

When the users connect, you need to have password sharing enabled (i.e. they must put in a password to enter the shared computer (they can always save this so they need not enter it next time). You now need 2 local users on the Windows 7 computer, e.g. call them user1 and user2 with their own respective passwords. Don't make them ADMIN users.

Note that you also need to remap the drives and use these logins and passwords for the drive mapping.

Now user1 has access to everything, so on the outside folder give them complete access (or read only as you desire, including access to the special folder inside). Repeat this action for user2. Now go to the special folder that you only want user1 to have access to. right click on it and select properties/security. On the permissions tab, have a look and write down the current ... I try to download wxpsp2 and half way through it stops and says access denied. I used microsoft to download and also used a cd and got the same problem. I have the appropraye security software. Can not find anyone who knows how to help.

Answer:Windows XP2 Access Denied

Are you saying the actual download says access denied ? Or the installation ?

SP2 needs to be Installed from the administrator account as it requires access to the system files and folders.

I've searched the forum and tried solutions suggested in previous posts without success.

My setup is this:-

PC 'A' - Windows XP Pro - cable connection to Netgear router
PC 'B' - Windows 7 Pro - wireless connection.
Laptop 'C' - Windows 7 Premium - wireless connection
Laptop 'D' - Windows XP Pro - cable connection
Netbook 'E' - Windows XP Pro - wireless connection

All machines run AVG Pro but do NOT use the AVG Firewall; instead each relies on the Windows firewall. All have access approved on all HDs for all users of the LAN. When logged on to each machine as the same user - i.e. 'me'.

'A' sees and connects fully with all machines
'B' sees all. Access denied to 'C'. 'D' asks for username/password and doesn't accept anything I enter.
'C' sees and connects fully with all machines
'D' sees all. Access denied to 'C'. All others full connection.
'E' sees all. Access denied to 'C'. 'D' asks for username/password and doesn't accept anything I enter.

I can't make head nor tail of this. All machines see each other; two have full two-way connections; three have access denied to 'C'; two are asked for user/password when trying to connect to 'D'!

Would appreciate any ideas for a solution.

In general, if uefi is enable the disk can be formatted as gpt style partition disk. If uefi is disable the disk can be formatted as an mbr partition style disk. The Win 7 64 bit installer can install Windows in a gpt style disk.

Drivers missing after a Windows 8 Pro x64 UEFI Install
Here is a snapshot:

1) Why Windows UEFI'ed installed couln't be able to detect THOSE 3 DEVICES thus INSTALLING THEIR DRIVERS?
2) Windows Legacy Instaled misses not only 3 but 6 devices.
3) Last but not least, although identified my wireless card (BroadCom 802.11n) hence Wi-Fi drivers are installed by Windows 8 themselves, by connection speed is way to slow........
HELP and explain please!!

Lenovo Z580 comes with Windows 8 preinstalled, I don't understand what you were trying to achieve?

Is this after converting to GPT / UEFI . Am bit confused.
