Preferred Solution: compatible Blu-Ray drives for Lenovo Ideapad Y500

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello: Since I upgraded to Windows 10 on my IdeaPad Y500 my wifi is intermittant and stops working on sleep.

The network icon in the lower right corner  of the desktop has a red x next to it indicating no network connection. My home wifi network is not listed in the Network Settings list even when the laptop's wifi card is connecting to the router.  The wifi loses connection intermittantly on sleep, it works again once I restart the machine but loses the connection when it goes back to sleep. The LAN connection has also stopped working intermmitantly as well as the sound card.

I have updated to the latest version of Windows 10 (including the kb3093266 update) pushed out in the last month by Microsoft.
I have checked and rechecked the device drivers for wifi and LAN network adapters. The drivers are up to date with the latest. The wifi adapter is an Intel Centrino Wireless N-2230.
There are no network connections listed in the "Network Settings" list including my own router and the many other routers in my apartment building. The LAN connection didn't show up either.
The LAN adapter also stopped working the last I checked.
The sound card stopped working as well but comes back intermittantly.

What should I do? This problem is really annoying. The wifi connection is lost constantly and only works on restart. This happened after the Windows 10 upgrade in July. It only worked fine with Windows 8 and the Windows 10 Inside... Read more

Hello. Sorry for my English.I recently installed Windows 10 on lenovo y500. 4 months everything worked well, but then I started to have problems with the video card. When I turned on the laptop, the screen started flashing, and then I saw a message about the failure of drivers. Then he stopped flashing and there were green pixels on the screen. I tried to reinstall the drivers, but nothing helped. Later, when I turned on the laptop, the screen turns green, and then completely turns off after a few seconds. I took it to the service center, and they said that it is necessary to install only Windows 8, because the BIOS and SLI does not work correctly with Windows 10. But these 4 months SLI has worked on Windows 10. What should I do? Is it worth it to stay on Windows 10, or roll back to 8?My lenovo y500 spec.i7-3630QM, 650m sli, 6Gb RAM, 1920x1080

Hi! I'm new here in forum and I have concern about my laptop. Here's the story. I experienced the "loop boot" thing, so I tried to fix it using Recover Media, then I restore my system it works. A day passed by, when I boot my laptop I got an blue screen error (with numbers) it says that there is missing file. So I try to use Recover Media again, hoping that I can fix it but no.I contacted my technician friend (that is the first time she encounter that kind of problem but she knows about the "loob boot" thing), she told me it needs to be reformat/reset, then I told her to recover my data first. When she recovering it, she realize that the partition system is GPT and she told me that she can't access because it's GPT (at first I don't know what she's saying to me), she explained to me that my hdd is protected and it can't access manually without any software or thing (miracle or something that can give as permission). So we search for answer, we try to use a software that can clone/copy GPT partition hdds, so it works. Recovering of my data is done. And the last problem we encounter, she told me that we have 2 options, 1. is to convert my hdd to MBR (I think, that should be the opposite of GPT) and 2. to have a Win8 installer for GPT, so she can reformat my laptop. I told her that could she try to use Recover Media and use the "Reset my PC" option but she said it won't work because my OS is corrupted, the only way to fix it is to reformat. So I say ok what should ... Read more

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Y500

Corruption of ONLY the Windows OS DOES NOT corrupt the recovery mechanism.

If your recovery partition is corrupted then recovery will fail.

I do not recommend coverting GPT to MBR, GPT is the new format and helps maintain efficiency and is recommended for all new systems.

You can use a Win 8.1 installer (I think that is what is available from Microsoft now) and make a bootable USB/DVD from it and install Windows. If its the same version as currently on your system, the windows should get activated automatically.

Do you have a NOVO button on the laptop? (a small button which has a rounded arrow on it)
This button can be pressed to recover your laptop to factory settings and can remove corrupted windows.
(It is the same as using a recovery disk/USB)

Could also be the case that your HDD is failing, resulting in corrupted files. You can run the Storage and Memory tests from here (Make sure you download right versions 32/64 bit) -

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Did your system came Pre-installed with the SSD, Normally it will come preconfigured for caching.
I normally see Y500 with SSD Cached with Diskeeper
Check your system if you have caching via Diskeeper,
Her is an article showing how to check if a diskeeper cache is working or "if not" how to make it work.

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 TouchPad

hi cnwh,
  Welcome to Lenovo Forums

I'm not sure what touchpad you have there but Y500 have i guess two types of touchpad, thats ELAN and Synaptics
well you can check it by following these steps

> Open Control Panel
> Choose Hardware and Sound/ Mouse
> Choose Mouse

It should pull up a windows that has tabs on it. Last tab to the right will say if it is an ELAN or SYNAPTICS tab like this
 Spoiler (Highlight to read)
No you know what touchpad you have you can check these links for tutorials,

For Synaptics Check out this link
For ELAN it is very much like this video

Hope this helps,
Cheers!!

I'm extremeley impressed by the spec on the higher end Y500 and planning on buying. Only thing holding me back is this "touchpad issue". Has this been resolved yet? (Either via software update or new laptops being shipped with different touchpads etc) Obviously I'm not going to buy a Ł1000 laptop with a serious known fault. Thanks, Ryan.

AFAIK, the elan touchpad caused this problem which has been replaced by a synaptics touchpad which does not cause the problem. Also, i have heard that the lot in the stores is still having the elan touchpad, so you may order from lenovo site.

So, a lot happened yesterday with my new laptop. I have the Lenovo idepad y500 laptop and i use a G700 logitech mouse and a G13 logitech gamepad. The problem started with me gaming gear. I game a lot and use the G13 only for World of Warcraft (I have it plugged in almost every time though). I always have the Gaming Software running on the background. Sometimes when I game the Gaming Software disconnects my G700 and my G13 randomly and reconnect them shortly after. But it does this much more often when I play Wow or LoL. At some point after many re-connects the gaming software freezes. When this happens my Gamepad stops working but my mouse still works (because it doesn't really need the gaming software to work). After I unplug the gamepad, kill the gaming software and execute the software again everything is fine (after some time it will disconnect and reconnect again until it freezes up again). I played WoW this way for quite some days now. But today it went from bad to worse. When the gaming software froze up I unplugged everything like I normally do. But now my laptop spammed the "1" input, auto filling all text boxes and spamming error beeps. Finding this really weird I hard reset my laptop thinking, this should help. Now after this Hard reset (unplugged everything, took out the battery and drained the laptop from power, just to be sure) my laptop was incredibly slow when booting. I only had this Laptop for a week and I know my stuff about registry and star... Read more

Hi all, about a week I have a new laptop Lenovo y500 with GeForce GT 650 SLI.I am pleased with the performance of the laptop, and I think that is the best possible choice in this price range.Battlefield3 works perfectly in FULL HD resolution and settings HIGH.However, I have a little problem, I do not know if there is something wrong with the drivers or the hardware. From time to time, for example, playing League of Legends, browsing websites or switching view from Battlefield3 to windows pops up an error that the graphics driver has stopped working but has regained its proper operation. For a moment, the screen goes black and returns to normal. i installed the various drivers from geforce site such as 310.90 WHQL, 313.96 Beta or from the manufacturer Lenovo dedicated Nvidia Video Driver for Windows 7 (64-bit) - IdeaPad Y400, Y500 dated 04 Nov 2012, none of them help and the problem still occurs. What do you think ? problem is bcs of the driver or bcs of hardware? maybe something wrong with the motherboard or other component drivers? or maybe just some settings have to be set ?? I will be very grateful for your help, what you sugest to do ??i bought new Y500 without any windows or drivers included, installed Windows 7 Home Premium x64 and all drivers from lenovo driver site.it gets more and more annoying the longer I use the laptop Hope to get some info from you what steps should i make to remove this driver problem ;(

Good afternoon support, Last friday I bought my ideapad y500 at a dutch reseller. I used it proper for about 1,5 day. I then started getting wierd problems. (its an i5 version) and ive bought a seperate crucial m4 256gb ssd which I installed myself. Let me first describe them all: 1) When I was installing the ssd I noticed there wasnt a screw in the whole where I needed to attach the msata ssd.2) I hate windows 8, so I went back to my official windows 7 install from my previous laptop. There are no drivers on your website for windows 7 64 bits.3)They touchpad is working like intended for some time, but often its choppy and doesnt move proper or out of its self.4) I often have a freeze in my keyboard it randomly types things and after a few seconds I can use my keyboard again but I need to remove certain things it typed..5) Wifi seems to be really low... when sitting a few meters away from the router or like sitting 10 meter away from my linksys router, I seem to get very low range on it. I cannot mis my laptop for a day, my old laptop died on me which caused me to have a new one delivered within 24 houres. Are these issues software issues or hardware issues? There are two deviced unknown in my laptop... one is usb 3.0 from the intel vendor and another is an unknown device without a proper vendor/hardware ID (root/Lenovo/hid)... For the rest the laptop is excelent.. in my spare time I enjoy playing a game or two and that's what differs this l... Hello, About a month ago, I received my new Lenovo Ideapad Y500 running on Windows 8. However, during this week, a problem occurred about probably 8 times already. Windows said that it encountered an error and it automatically restarts for me. The majority of the time, it says DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (tcpip.sys). Sometimes it says DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (aswnet.sys), but I realized that that was an avast antivirus problem. I tried refreshing the laptop. Everything was going well until I reinstalled all the programs again. That's when it happened again. The list of programs I installed were:League of LegendsAvast AntivirusCCleanerDefragglerAdobe PhotoshopJavaAdobe FlashKingsoft Office Suite Any idea on how to fix this problem(s)? Any help would be appreciated.

My Y500 just went out of warrenty.  Call Lenovo cost to much to send it in.  Problem : Press power button, power button lights up on press but once you let go light goes off.  No fan, no HDD sounds, no display, no keyboard light .... nothing.  This happens when AC cord is pluged in and when not pluged in  ... using battery. Light Indicters shows a white light for power .. next to it is a amber light for battery.  These light ONLY shows up and stays up when you plug in the AC power.  Same light goes when AC Cord is removed and running on battery but only shows when you press power button.  From the manual, amber light means 20% of battery it needs recharging, which I did  over night and still same issue.  I removed the battery and only used AC cord ...... sadly same things.   I tried the hold down power button 30 sec trick with AC Cord and Battery removed to clear any power left...  at least 20 times... Port position / location

This port is also implementing SATAIII so make sure your get a SATAIII card for faster speed and Yes a 120GB can be handled by the Systemboard.

This needs to be resolved.

I only just received my newly purchased y510p from NewEgg, and now see that I cannot upgrade to Windows 8.1 and keep my SLI, a feature which cost me an extra $200. NewEgg wants to charge a restocking fee if the laptop needs to be returned, though that might be negotiable NewEgg should not have to eat that loss either.

A new model laptop sold the week of Windows 8.1's release should absolutely have been tested and ready for Windows 8.1. There was time for a company as large as Lenovo to test in advance of this Windows release.

Per the nVidia representative, Lenovo's system does not update the VBIOS of an UltraBay video adapter. This needs to be fixed. This is a feature core to the laptop and an unacceptable defect.

I have an active Case # in with Lenovo support, with the Rep John helpful but unaware of this "zero day" issue. He stated that as of 5 am this morning that their support group requested help from Lenovo because they have been getting "Ultrabay calls" all day.

I hope to see an actual response from someone with Lenovo on this issue. This Windows 8.1 problem on the new line of Ideapads is too serious not to acknowledge.

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad Y500 Windows 8.1 and SLI

Hi guyz, first of all I have to say that the Lenovo Y500 ideapad with 2 graphic cards is a excellent product when you use Windows 7 - no problems with Driver - Nvidia panel recognize the 2 cards and also says that SLI is enabled. Now i have installed Windows 8.1 (Preview Version) and the driver listed on the Lenovo Support Driver side - Installation no problem - Windows recognize the cards, but after the needed restart there is one card with the yellow question mark... Cant start the card ... The Nvidia control panel also says that there is only one  card. I like Windows 8, i also like Windows 7 - could someone solve this problem? I also tried the Beta drivers from Nvidia but no solution at all - same error. Maybe some one can help

Hi, I've found this forum while looking for a solution to my lagging problem. My Y500 is just a few months old and it started to lag what ever I start doing, interesting part is that the problem disappears once I move the mouse or press any button on keyboard(it is not working on battery). I first planned to install a clean windows  but realised that it will not be that easy since I've changed the partition size of drive C. I would appreciate if you could give me an advice to re install win8 with onekey recovery without changing the partition sizes. There are lots of files on drive D that I can not back up to somewhere else.Thank you in advance.

Hi guys, this is my first post in these forums. Now, I searched a lot for a solution to my problem, but now I'm creating this thread.I got a Lenovo Ideapad Y500, and it worked really well for like a month, then I started hearing this really loud whirring noise and some vibration coming from the left side of the laptop, near the heat vents. I shut my laptop off and when I turned it backon It was gone. But now the noise is back and whenever I reboot my laptop is goes away but then it comes back after a while. Also, whenever I run the dust removal thingy in the Lenovo energy management app, It gets really loud then it goes away.I don't really feel lots of air coming out from the vent on the leftside of the laptop. I think it might be a fan problem but my laptop stays around 45-65 Celsius mostly. I don't know how hot it runs when I play games, though. Any help on this unnatural whirring sound that starts after a while is really appreciated.

Hello everyone, Recently, after some usage of my relatively new IdeaPd Y500 (Which was bought about 4-5 months ago) I get a weird, annoying and quite rattling sound from the left side (I guess the fan is there). When I barely touch the laptop, or lift it up, the sound stops. It's not really loud though. Any soultions?  I tried dust cleaning, didn't help really

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 rattling sound

hi nsrbin,

A grinding / rattling noise is an indication that the fan is struggling, It's also possible that the fan is hitting something, is dirty or might have gone defective and needs to be replaced. In this case, I recommended that you contact lenovo to report the issue as this might lead to the computer overheating and end up damaging more internal components.

Hello, I recived my lenovo y500 laptop about 3 months ago. recently about 4 weeks ago my laptop took about 10 minutes to start up. I thought that this was unusual but the computer still worked so i ignored the problem when before it took my laptop 48 seconds when restarting and 32 seconds when turning on when previously shutted down. Now when i restarted my computer for a microsoft update for microsoft office it updated normally before shutting down. when it started up it took about an hour for the screen to turn on. But the screen started with a strangle resolutoion i think it was 1896x856. i went to change the screen resolution and that resolution was the highest resolution there was on the monitor. Also wndows 8 could not recognise the screen but the screen still worked.I then decided to restart the computer to see if the screen resolution would fix itself. I waited 1 and a half hours for the screen to turn on. nothing happened. i then decided to connect it to my hd tv via HDMI port it worked. everything was fine eccept the lenovo screen was not detected and so I''m right now using my tv as my monitor for the laptop y500.all of the computers components are working properly, i checked it myself and by the lenovo solution center program, except the lenovo laptop monitor and can not fix it. Can you please help me fix this problem?

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad Y500 Display Not Working

HiSince your laptop is relatively new, i suggest you contact lenovo service centre since i dont want you to try manual fixes since they can be harmful for the laptop.Regards

So, long story short. I accidentally deleted my recovery partition and now it seems like the only thing that will get my laptop up and running normally again is a recovery disc from Lenovo. I just got off the phone with customer service and they informed me that recovery discs can not be ordered in USB form.  This is where my main issue is. My Lenovo Ideapad Y500 laptop did not come with a CD-ROM Drive. With that being said, I do not want to spend $69 on a recovery disc that will require me to purchase an external CD-ROM drive that potentially won't even work... When I asked customer support if I could return and get a refund for the disc if it will not boot through an external CD-ROM drive, they said no. Has anyone been able to run a recovery disc from an external cd-rom drive successfully? Any suggestions? I'm at my wit's end with this thing...

Hi,I am having a lot of problems with my Lenovo IdeaPad Y500. There is about 1 week that I can not use my computer properly. The notebook does not complete the boot. I have tried to perform a restore but it could not be completed because I partitioned the hard drive and the OKR button no longer works. After several attempts, I've decided to perform a clean installation of Windows. The installation took ages, about a entire day. I know that this operation takes a good time but it was obvious that it was with a strange behaviour. The operating system was reinstalled but right after the installation, windows notified that there was a problem in one of my hard drives and asked me to backup my data. The error log pointed that the problem was at the Sandisk SSD. Well, right after my first system restart, I was back to the recovery screen again. Everything indicates that I must have a problem with my hard drive. I wonder if anyone has gone through this problem and what you did to solve it. I may be missing some instalation prior to the windows itself. i know that by installing without OKR, I may be missing something. I don't know, anything that helps....  I am also trying to get the notebook for the lenovo support team as it is still on under warranty but my notebook was bought at USA and I live in another country and they do not give any support. (lame) Thanks

Hello!2 days ago i purchased Lenovo IdeaPad Y500.I installed windows 7 ultimate. For several hours everything was perfect and then i noticed that the camera doesn't work in skype.I looked for solutions and i have tried everything - drivers install and uninstall, skype install and uninstall, different versions of skype too ... And nothing. So i reinstall windows. And again - everything was perfect for several hours until - no camera on skype. The error message is suggesting that some other program is using the camera but that is not true.I tried process explorer and it showed that only skype is using it.I tried running skype on compatibility mode on every other OS starting with win 7 to win 98!!! And ... nothing. Can somebody think of anything that i haven`t tried?

Answer:lenovo IdeaPad Y500 camera problem!

Hi Same thing. Just purchased the IdeaPad 500 with Windows 7. All working fine except for the camera (discovered while trying to install Skype). It's on all the forums and there is confusion about what to do. No solution yet as far as I can tell. So it's a problem with the computer model and it's Lenovo's job to fix it. But I'm certainly not sending in my laptop for repair. I don't have the time. I have a life and work to do, so I'm going to plug in a USB driven cam, hoping that will work. If it's a software problem, maybe Lenovo can provide an update. However, if it's a faulty chip, Lenovo must know about it by now and they are just keeping quiet. What frustrates me is that I've paid for a laptop with a camera and I've been got!

Okay so, I got my Lenovo Ideapad Y500 a couple days ago. Liked it and all BUT when I had my mouse connected into the laptop and then turned off the touchpad, it would not turn back on. The only way I could get my touchpad to work again is by restarting the computer, which is pretty frustrating. I searched this: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/default.page?   for ANY drivers/software for the Y500 mousepad and there are none. Can anyone help me fix this problem before I get a refund from this potentially bad purchase? FN + F6 toggles the touchpad on and off and I have tried to turn it on and off, with and without the external mouse connected. Thanks for the help.

So guys, noone of you tried to reply to me so i tried to solve my problem by my own. Pluging off touchpad from motherboard seems working for the keyboard issues, and im fine with that for now. Unfortunately coudnl't find solution for my problem with fn key, and i found a new problem that im trying to solve. Im using 2 monitor, one the main from laptop and the second one free standing from computer. The laptop monitor has 1920x1080 resolution, but the second one got 1440x900 resolution. At windows 8 didn't have any problems with the graphic, but at 8.1 as you can see at image there is a little blur at the ts3, and at the skype icon at the right down corner of the 1st monitor. Have no idea how to fix that blur, was trying to reinstal graph settings and some similliar stuff. Just the screen doesnt look sharp as it was earlier.Another thing is that i can't find the Intel(R) HM76 Express - 1E59 driver. Hello,My name is Panos and i have a problem with my laptop's motherboard (the model is IdeaPad Y500).  I sent it for repair to lenovo here in greece a month ago and they answered to me yesterday that they can not find that spare part (the first time) and the second time i called they told me that they have a problem with their supplier. My opinion is that they do not want to fix it. After that they told me that I should send it back to where i bought it with replacement form. The problem is that i bought it from USA and the cost is big to send it back. What i can do to find that spare part and get my laptop fixed? Thanks.

Go to Nvidia Control Panel. There, you should find something like that:

If it's off, turn it on. If it looks different, post a screen shot of your Nvidia Control Panel where this should be. Maybe Optimus is switching to integrated GPU?

I have a lenovo ideapad y500 with a 1366x768 screen, and I am looking to pop open the screen, and replace the panel with a 1920x1080 screen. Assuming that I purchase another 15.6 inch screen (size of the original screen), is this possible? A model of the y500 is sold with a 1080p display, and the graphics card in my model is more than capable of outputting such a resolution. I was just wondering if there is a chance that the connections between my laptop and new screen would not match as I do not know if there is some sort of standard port with screens. Thanks!

Answer:Screen upgrade lenovo ideapad y500

You would need to find out the exact model of the 1080p screen was that was sold with that model and order the same one or compatible replacement model. Laptop screens are not universally interchangeable and you can't just buy any screen and connect it.

I have had sound issues from my laptop recently. Sound fails to play out of the speakers or headphones normally. This is not an issue with Windows Audio Service or anything like that. I did notice, however, that when I push down on the lower right side of the laptop's case (right of the mousepad, an inch or two below the keyboard), that sound will play. This used to be the fix to the problem, but I have had to push increasingly harder to get any sound to come out, and now it lasts for a second or two, or while I am still pushing. I believe this may be an issue in which the sound card/speakers are slightly disconnected from the computer, but I do not know. Any suggestions or ideas would be great.

Hi,

I've tried to do what you are attempting, as have others.  Never had any luck getting Lenovo media to work after transferring it to a USB device.  It would boot, but couldn't complete the recovery.

My tests were with ThinkPad media.  It's possible that you will succeed with IdeaPad media, but I doubt it

Your best bet might be an external USB DVD drive.

Z.

Hello, The camera on my  is not working properly. I have used it once in Skype and since then it is not working at all. I can see the light that it is turned on, but there is no picture. I tried using different websites to make photos of myself - nothing. In skype, when I call somebody my camera is only loading and that's all. I have installed/reinstalled the drivers, restarted the computers and so on - nothing works so far.

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad Y500 camera problem

hi SPetrov,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Getting a black or discolored screen when opening camera is a sign that the camera light is getting defective. Since you already isolated it by using different camera softwares, try to boot into the BIOS by pressing F2, when you're in, press F9 to load BIOS defaults and press F10 to save and exit. If this still doesn't fix the camera, there's a big posibility that the camera chip or the lens is already defective and you need to contact lenovo for service. Support phone list here.

Hope this helps.

So I've been trying to figure it out, but this is my first laptop, I've done some looking around on the forums and found some unrelated issues regarding the dual graphics cards (Most people not realizing they had the option for one or the other) and this is not that.My issue is I do indeed have both graphics cards, but only one seems to work until I plug in the battery charger. I'm a gamer, and that is why I bought this laptop, I work out of town a lot and needed something short of lugging around my desktop everywhere I went. So when I found this gem, I was super excited, and it works well. Except for the fact I have to keep the laptop plugged in at all times in order to run the second video card, I've looked under slews of options within the control panel and power saving features but nothing seems to stand out to me to indicate there is any way to play with the settings for this particular problem. Anyone have any suggestions?

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad Y500 Graphics Card issues.

hi Jin_Trister,

Welcome to the Forums.

Your issue might be similar to this thread.

In running SLI, the unit requires a 170w power, otherwise it will only use 1 GPU as stated in this article. Also, the Ideapad Y500 is powered by a Lithium Ion 6-cell, 72Wh battery. If you're on battery power, running a dual GT 650m alone consumes a total of 90W and the unit still needs to power up the cpu, hdd, lcd, etc. so the system automatically disables SLI and underclock the GPU (and possibly the CPU) to give way to other PC components

Hello everyone. I'm having some problems with my wifi and I would like some help. I sat down on my PC today to download some movies. I noticed they were taking too long and as I have had issues with my ISP in the past, I jumped on speedtest.net as quick as I could to find out what my speed was like. As it turns out, I was having speed issues. Just to be sure, I went on a wired connection to my router to see if that was really the case. With a wired connection I got the speeds I'd expect from my ISP. I went to my tablet, my Xbox One, my phone. All wireless obviously and all running at full speed. I went to my laptop again to see if maybe the issue was in fact ISP related and just solved itself. Nope. Still getting slow speeds on wifi. I've tried everything. uninstalled and reinstalled drivers both generic and lenovo provided. I've run diagnostics. Forgive me for my laziness but I have no screenshots. At this point, it's four in the morning and I'm too tired. Maybe I'll get screenshots later by request. I did run the WiFi analytics on the Netgear Genie app and noticed that my signal strength was between 54% and 57% with around -48db and only jumped to 60% when 10 inches or less from the router. I used the Intel ProSet Wireless tools to run a diagnostic. All came out as working and the signal quality was excellent. Under statistics -> percent transmit errors I did notice I was getting 12 percent. Is this supposed to signify packet loss?? If you need any in... Read more

Last night I fell asleep watching a movie on my computer with it plugged in and I woke up, went to turn it on and it turns on but stays on either a fully black screen or a backlit black screen with no text. Sometimes when I turn it off again the power button will blink and so will the led indicator for power at the front. Any suggested problems/fixes?

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad y500 power button blinking

I think your computer is in sleep mode when you have the blinking power and the power led monitor. Press the power button for 2-3 sec to fully shutdown the unit. Wait for a few minutes to turn it back on. If its back to normal, you may have to tweak a little the power option and the "what the power button does..." option.

So I purchased the Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 about ten months ago. About three months later, the camera ceased to work. It was very sudden - I was using Skype the night before, and then when I woke up, I was not able to use any program that involved the camera. Skype, YouCam, Camera, etc. all did not work. All of those applications returned an error that there was no camera installed. I hadn't installed any new drivers, software, or anything. The Devices Manager showed (and still shows) that there are no cameras on my computer, which is ridiculous, considering that the camera is mounted inside the screen.  At this point, I tried to resolve the problem by reinstalling all of my drivers. Nothing changed, so I cut my loss and moved on.  However, about two months after that, the microphone stopped working as well. It was equally sudden - I use my microphone for dicatation and basic audio recording, and it too stopped working. However, it DOES appear as a device. It produces pure white noise and nothing else, and only works in the Configuration tab of the Recording Devices control panel.  Since then, I tried reinstalling everything, which didn't help. I tried opening the back and squishing the black cable back down, which also didn't help. To answer a few questions: 1. Yes, I have tried pressing Fn+Esc. On Windows 8.1, this does nothing. Energy management is correctly installed. 2. Yes, I have installed the most recent drivers. 3. Yes, I... Read more

Hello, I have had a problem with my laptop for a while now and have only just been able to capture the issue on video. The problem started many months ago, perhaps the start of 2015. Bascially the screen flickers very badly and sometimes across the whole screen but it only happens when the main body of colour displayed is black. As you can see in the video, the second I press the windows buttton the flickering disappears. This is why I have been unsure whether or not it was my laptop hardware or software. I would appreciate it if someone knew how to fix this. Video: https://youtu.be/a3C-TzavBtg Thanks Lewis

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 Screen Issue Windows 8.1

To me it appears like the graphics memory of the page areas are changing with content and shouldn't.- 1st suspect is incompatible graphics driver- BIOS issue Why OS was on this before. Not details on whether this is a clean install of Win 8.1 or factory image (but I doubt it is as it sounds like an older machine).

Hello Lenovo forum!, Iam haveing a weird problem with my DVD-drive. The problem is that its able to read some dvd's, but not all DVD's. I have tried about 10 now, and about 5 work, and 5 dont. All the dvd I tried are origal copys of games, I didnt try a burned dvd yet.The ones that dont work are loading for quite some time in my disc drive, makeing noises and I can clearly hear it spinning and then stopping again.  Iam useing windows 8 and my dvd drive is called ''Matsh.ita BD-MLT UJ262''. (without the . between the h and the i, its bleeping out the curse word if I dont type it like this)I already tried to:1. Remove the driver and let windows automaticlly reinstall the driver.2. Remove the actual drive from my laptop, cleaning it ,and pushing it back in3. Found a possible solution on these forums where some registery entries had to be removed, named UPPER FILTER if I recall correctly, but my registery didnt have these entries that I had to remove, so I didnt touch it.4. Installing K-lite codec pack I dont think its a region issue, as I stated before I only used original copies from games that I all bought from official retailers in the same country (The Netherlands)Iam also useing a virtaul clone drive on my pc.  Iam affraid its a hardware issue (kinda weird, my laptop is only 4-5 months old). But I find it very odd that its able to run some dvd's and some not. Iam not sure what other information I need to give in order to help me, but ask a... Read more

Answer:Weird DVD-drive malfunction *Lenovo y500 ideapad*

try removing virtual drive on your laptop and see if your dvd drive works again since some times virtual drive can conflict with the actualy drive and make actuall driver behave wrong so if this solves it then i wouldn't suggest you having virtual drive installed.

I received my computer back from Lenovo after fixing a hardware problem. Everything was working correctly so I reinstalled Windows 8 to get rid of all the bloatware. After I reinstalled the Geforce GT 750m driver the pixels were messed up on the screen and change when a window is dragged around, leaving the same color of what was there previously. Its almost if the pixels are not being refreshed in sync. http://imgur.com/gMksU8Chttp://imgur.com/PznNPrN After calling Lenovo they said it was a software issue. I reinstalled the Geforce drivers from both the Geforce website and Lenovos website. Reinstalling Win 8 also didn't fix it. Any ideas?

Answer:Lenovo Y500 ideapad pixels messed up after Win 8 reinstall

IMO that is a problem hardware. Hopefully loose connection. What setup do you have? Two 750m in SLI or Optimus with Intel GPU? You could try running some Linux distro from USB just to check if the problem occurs only in Windows (which would point to a software issue). Does the screen look the same in BIOS screen and during startup? Do you have Lenovo Energy Management? As many people discovered this application is both rather important and also can cause some issues. Run GPU-Z and post the screenshot in here. Does 3D games run correctly? Any other issues like computer freezing? Excessive heat coming from vents? Try plugging external screen through HDMI (anything... monitor, projector, TV). Is the problem the same on the external screen?

Hey I was just wondering if any ultrabay batteries fit the Y500 series. I haven't been able to find much on this, and I would assume Lenovo would release one for this machine since, one they have this for many of their other machines with ultra bays, and two this machine lacks on battery life. It would make a great addition to the laptop, considering you can't run SLI when you are not plugged in, and you wouldn't really need an extra battery if you are plugged in, i.e. you would swap the two depending on your current need. Awesome idea in theory, right?

Hi, I'm new to the forum. I have Ideapad Y500SLi  that I bought in may 2013. On friday I turned my Ideapad on, logged into Windows 8 and used computer for two minutes, but suddenly keyboard stopped functioning. Backlight brightness adjust works fine, but I couldn't type anything. I booted and it worked for two minutes and stopped functioning again. Well, I tried to update Windows but it didn't do anything for the problem. I tried to push keys for a long time, but it didn't also do anything.I restored Windows 8 and keyboard worked fine for 30-45 minutes after that but suddenly stopped functioning. I booted up and everything was back to that point that keyboard works fine for 2 minutes and then stops functioning. I tried to restore it again, but I can't get the restore window to pop up, my computer just pops up a blue screen with sad smiley face, it tries to shut down but it keeps itself in black screen. Only way to power down is to keep power button pushed down. When I try to shutdown in Windows it also keeps jamming in black screen. So, any suggestions? Can I do a clean Windows 8 install somehow? It feels like the problem is in the operating system and not in the hardware. EDIT: I tried to use computer with external usb-keyboard and it works just fine with it! Any ideas?

I'm trying to be patient, but I simply cannot understand why a simple replacement of an initially defective unit takes around five days to process.I waited patiently for several days for my DOA unit to arrive.Needless to say, I was disappointed to find that on June 24th 2013 I was received a minor defective DOA unit e.g. scratch housing found and a new cash bill copy which stated the purchased date was still on June 14th 2013 from the Lenovo Exclusive Store. Also, an entry level of free Lenovo Dicota Backpack is not large enough to carry my 15.6-inch laptop which offer by Lenovo Exclusive Store.Stuff like this happens. It is wasted time to complaint again and again. In the future, I should totally not consider and recommend this brand for my companies and customers.

Hello, I have ideapad y500 and  I've noticed that when ever I shut it off and power it back on the battery has drained. Its about 12% per night .. Its rly weird bcs i am not using "always on usb" or any others features. I think that it is HW bug or BIOS. I have noticed that when  i shut it down -> unplug the power cable then i remove and again attach the battery leave it for 12hours and there weren't any battery drain. So it only appears when i just unplug the power cable and leave it. I have read some topics(some ppl have the same problem) but i haven't find any solution. Is there any solution to solve this problem?? Bios version is the latest one.. I haven find any newest bios ver on your website.  Tomas

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad Y500 issue - battery drain (shutdown)

I'm assuming you have win 8. Try this:On the Windows 8 Start Screen, press CNTL + ALT + DEL.On the next screen select the Power icon located in the lower Right. When the options appear, press the SHIFT key and select "Restart". When the next screen appears, select "Turn off your PC". The unit will power down completely.See if you still have the battery draining.Note: Even if the unit is off, a little drain is expected to maintain the clock, etc.

Hello everyone, I have an IdeaPad Y500 and needed to use a VGA connection one day, but I found that there are no screw holes around the VGA connection receptacle to secure the cable. The VGA output does work but the cable can be dislodged if the laptop is moved or jostled in any way. Are the lack of screw holes on the chassis a feature, i.e., someone made a conscious decision to leave them off, or is this a design defect?  If the latter, can I have the laptop swapped out, i.e., will Lenovo replacement it? This may be more of a a question for technical support but I thought that I would try to see if anyone here has any experience in dealing with Lenovo on this issue.  A forum search does not return anything useful in this regard.. Thanks in advance...

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 missing screw holes for the VGA connector

I have the Y510p and it is also missing these screws. A little disappointing but that is how they designed it. The only reasoning behind this decision that I can come up with is to save money and maybe they figure, If we are plugging this into an external display, it is no longer sitting in our lap. It is most likely on a desk, with reduced chance of accidental unplugging..     That's all I can come up with

Hello,I am interested to buy the Lenevo ideapad Y500 15 amd model (ideapad Y700-15ACZ)http://shop.lenovo.com/gb/en/laptops/ideapad/y700-series/y700-15-amd/ I went this morning on notebookcheck.net:http://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-IdeaPad-Y700-15ACZ-Notebook-Review.158768.0.html I have got some concern about comment's been made during that test:- Lenovo presents a gaming notebook with which you cannot play computer games well in its current state. Thus, we advise against buying it. The manufacturer definitely needs to revise it and check the clock rate problem mentioned in the test.If you like the case design, you would be better off buying one of the (more expensive) Intel/Nvidia variants of the Y700 series - we are sorry about that for AMD. - Note: We decrease the total rating by 6% because of extensive stuttering during 3D - When we run Cinebench R15 in a loop, the clock rate remains at 3.4 GHz most of the time, but the big problem of the Lenovo IdeaPad Y700-15ACZ already shows here: Again and again, the clock rates fall to 1.4 GHz for a short time in mostly all four cores. We suspect that this is why it is cumbersome to play almost all games - Now, we have to face the truth: Even if the extensive benchmarks list leaves a different impression, you can hardly play any 3D game without frustration. The reason is slowdowns appearing in short intervals.  - Only masochists will stand that for longer than 3 minutes. (T... Read more

Control Panel / Hardware and Sound / Mouse.
There should be a synaptics Tab on the top right.

Check the tapping option if you have this feature to disable
If not please send a screenshot of your synaptics option like this

This tapping options have an option for the bottom left and the bottom right action or adjusting tap zones.

Hope this helps,

Yesterday afternoon I purchased a Lenovo IdeaPad Z575 for $499.00 from this link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834246328

Obviously, it hasn't come in the mail yet. I'm looking to upgrade the RAM in the laptop. It comes with 6gb of RAM, a 4gb stick and a 2gb stick. The problem is, I don't really know what kind of RAM is in the computer. I'm looking to replace the 2gb stick with a second 4gb stick.

The type of RAM the laptop uses is pc3-10600 1333mhz ddr3, non-parity, dual-channel capable, two 204-pin so-dimm socket RAM.

My question is whether or not this RAM is compatible with the laptop: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Electronics-Extreme-MV-3T4G3-US/dp/B00591ZYX8

Also, if there is a better option for RAM for this laptop, I'd like to know.

Answer:Solved: Is this RAM compatible with my Lenovo IdeaPad Z575?

Honestly, I think I may have mental problems. It looks like I answered my own question in this post. That RAM is compatible with my laptop. So I guess I'd just like to know if this RAM is the best option for this particular laptop.

Hello dear Community! I've got a Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 notebook, purchased 4 years ago.Not so long ago the HDD just went wrong again so now I'd like to put an SSD in it instead of a new HDD.Here's my first found: SSD Kingston 240 GB SSD, V300, 7mm (other specs: 2,5 inch, SATA3 interface). So, my question #1 is whether this SSD will be okay for my machine or not?If not could You just suggest me another ones that are compatible with it for sure (around the same capacity)? Another but not so important question #2: is it possible that changing the drive manually (no guarantee anymore) will cause the original (with-purchased) Win7 OS not working? Thank You very much for Your response in advance! Best regards,Zsolt László

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 - compatible SSDs

hi Zsolt,

Welcome to the Forums.

I haven't seen anyone used the Kingston 240 GB SSD on the Z570 but it should work as it's a 2.5" drive (ensure that you can return the item though just in case the BIOS doesn't detect it).

Alternatively, you can opt to get another brand like the Samsung Evo as other users have tested it on this unit.

Video:
Samsung SSD on the Z570

As for the OS, Windows should automatically activate itself once you re-install Windows (e.g., From a backup, a recovery disc, or fresh install) but in case it doesn't activate, you will need to activate it by phone.

Hey guys,  I have the Lenovo Ideapad 520 (80YL00RXIN) and wanted to replace the CD Drive with the Samsung 850 Evo 250GB Solid State Drive  in order to increase the Boot Speed and over-all speed of the laptop.  So, the question is, Is the Samsung 850 Evo SSD compatible with my laptop? And will it fit in terms of size, in place of the CD Drive? Also, is it recommended to add the SSD? Any downsides to doing so?  Lastly, will I, someone who knows the basics about computers and the internal components of a computer, be able to install the SSD myself? Or would I rather outsource it to someone who deals in things like this? Thank you. Regards,Neel.

Hello, I've just purchased the Lenovo Z510 Intel Core i7 (model 20287) and I've got a few queries: 1. if there is one mSATA connector available and free (not already connected) so I could be able to add an ADATA XPG SX300 mSATA SSD? this one is compatible with lenovo products?2. if yes (compatible) ,I can be able to install the Win7 OS after and if system will recognize the new ssd? any tutorial?3. if no (not compatible), what are Lenovo laptops compatible with mSATA ?  Many thanks in advance! Charlotte.

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Z510 (20287) - Compatible mSATA SSDs?

hi Charlotte,

Regarding your questions:
1. Looking at the specs sheet, the Ideapad Z510 does have a mini PCie card slot to fit an mSATA SSD but it doesn't indicate that it supports mSATA data signaling (and this slot is occupied by the wireless adapter).

  - Z510 Specs

2. Not compatible. If you're leaning towards an SSD upgrade, you could consider getting a regular 2.5" SATA SSD and replace the HDD with the SSD and install Windows 7 on it. Check this thread as other users have sucessfully installed Win7 on their Z510.

3. Natively, these are some of the systems that supports mSATA:
   - IdeaPad Y400 / Y500
   - IdeaPad Yoga 13
   - IdeaPad Yoga 2 Pro
   - IdeaPad U310 / U410 / U510
   - IdeaPad Y580

Y500 mSATA
Yoga 13 mSATA
U410 mSATA upgrade

It looks like my hard drive is in a very bad shape. I can't boot or do anything with it.Although Partitions 1,3, and 4 are accessible i.e. readable using Command Prompt, the partition 2 (Windows partition) (~890GB) is not readable. Chkdsk didn't help either. Its health status is in red. Can you please let me know where I can find a list of hard drives that would work with Y580?Also, with your past experience, which hdds are recommended? Would formatting my current hard drive help to get its status back to green? If yes, what is the best way to format the 1TB hard drive? Regards
