I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I think the question may have been answered on the forums but I am very nervous about what to do. When my laptop goes to restart it goes to the black screen and does absolutely nothing. It can take me a coujple of hours trying to get it to fire up so to speak and then it seems to be by luck only and I need the laptop for myu work so I am relucttant to turn the laptop off. I upgraded my laptop to windows 8.1 this year and after a windows update last month was installed the problem occurred...  I even have set the laptop back to factory settings and in due course lost everything... I have also uninstalled windows 8.1 although it is asking me to re instal it but I dont want to do that . I have read somehting about uninstalling hte AMD display thing and then doing something with the bios but I am really not sure what that all means as I am a bot thick to be honest when it comes to things like this.. If someone could give me any help or advice I would be etrnally grateful. Thank you for looking

Answer:Ideapad Z580 Black Screen

I have this same issue with an N581 IdeaPad. Everything was working fine until Microsoft's latest update on August 30th. The Lenovo boot screen appears and then the Windows login page shows for a few seconds (system is set to auto-login). After the login screen, there is just black screen with a mouse cursor. I can Ctrl-Alt-Del to get the task manager, launch a command prompt, etc. but there are no other graphics, no desktop, etc. Based on other similar reports in the forums for other models, I have (unsuccessfully) tried the following things: 1. Boot into Safe Mode and delete (uninstall) the video driver2. Update the BIOS3. Update the video driver with Intel's latest drivers (HD 4000 Graphics)4. Roll-back to a restore point before the last update None of these things give any change in behaviour and I'm out of ideas. Since OP sounds a little more timid on this, I'm willing to try anything and give him detailed instructions for whatever works for me. Thanks

Hey guysYesterday I started noticing that my Z580's screen would go completely black for less than a second then come back. This kept happening all day, ~once or twice every hour. After a while the screen started to sometimes go dark (but not black, like before) while also vibrating and emitting a strange sound, but it switched back to normal after a couple of seconds. After 3 or 4 of these, it has stuck being dark and flickering. The weird sound disappears if I turn the brightness to the lowest setting. Any idea what is causing this?

I just bought a new Ideapad Z580 and it turns on, powers up, but nothing happens on the screen. I have no boot discs, no software that was shipped with this computer, just a really bad 4-step start up document.  I AM INCREDIBLY DISAPPOINTED SO FAR. Any help anyone can give is most appreciated.

Answer:Brand New Z580 Ideapad Won't Start (Black Screen)

Sorry to hear this!   Do you see any activity lights on the PC?

What if you remove the battery and AC, then press and hold the power button for several seconds (do this a couple of times).   Then re-attach battery and AC and try to start up again....

See if that works.

Else, see my PM... just need some info and can try to arrange additional help.

Best regards,

Hi. I have my Lenovo IdeaPad Z580 i5-3210M 1TB 8GB GT635M WIN8 for less than 24 hours. The problems with the black screen started right from the beginning. When I first opened the laptop, nothing happen but a black screen. Forced shutdown and it started on a second go. Registered on Microsoft blah-blah-blah. 8 hours later tried to use it. It started again but, it was not login in, only after 3 forced shutdowns. I used it for one hour and let it open  for 15 min. When I came back, there was again the black screen and I couldn't get back to programs. I forced shutdown again. Now, I've tried to start the computer several times but the only thing I get is the black screen. Suggestions? Quite disappointed, and looking to the number of postings I think I've made a bad decision buying this computer. Now I'm typing from my old ACER

Hi. Maybe you have a faulty hdd, lenovo use seagate and they are not the best hdd, or try going into the bios Fn+F2 button and turning off eufi and secure boot if you have the option and then save the changes. I only get the black screen occasionally when i have an external hdd attached to the usb port, i dont know if it`s the external hdd not being ready to on time. John.

Hello everybody. I've just bought ideapad Z580 and I'm running it with Win 7 x64-bit.Everything is OK until I noticed something is wrong with the picture. It's a bit grainy/My former notebook was 17'' and with higher resolution so I thought the problem was in me with a smaller screen/resolution.But then again the picture should be crystal clear. It's more visible on white screen and on small thumbnails. It's like very very tiny vertical lines between the pixels.Don't get me wrong - its barely visible but I know it and it bugs me.I probably could live with that but I don't feel very comfortable. The drivers are from the provided CD and the rosolution is 1366x768.I've read about similar problems with older Lenovo models but didn't figure out what to do.So is it just me or the problem is with the LED panel?

Answer:Ideapad z580 screen

Hello Labriss,

Welcome, your query is related to appearance of screen resolution and vertical lines, for that you need to re-install the graphics driver from the below mentioned web link.

http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/in/en/DriversDownLoads/APR_Driver_List.aspx?CategoryID=780080&OS=0

After that restart the system and check whether the is resolved.

Hi, so I've looked through the gorums and have found that many people have this problem but only a couple have found solutions. I bought this laptop on amazon a little over a year ago, so my warranty is now expired. Anyways, up until today, I had absolutely no problems with my ideapad z580. All of a sudden today, my laptop froze and when I went to restart it, the computer would turn on, the lights would all turn on and you would hear the whirring noise, but the screen remains blank. The whirring noise comes and goes but the screen stays the same. The BIOS setup window works just fine, but the system won't go to the startup/load screen. I've tried taking out the battery, rebooting, and changing the RAM slots, but none of this has worked. I would call LENOVO support but since my warranty is expired they said there'd be a charge for the call. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Would buying new memory and swapping out the old ones work? I appreaciate any help I can get, OC

Hi Oncoc18,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear about your situation and as the issue persists, I suggest you to perform the Flee-Power and BIOS reset. Below are the steps to check and resolve the issue:

Remove the battery and any other peripheral device connected to the computer.
Hold the power button for 10-15 seconds and then connect only the AC Adapter and try to turn ON the computer.
If the issue persists even after performing Flee Power then resetting BIOS to its defaults should resolve the issue
Now access the BIOS menu press F2 when the Lenovo logo appears on the screen while the computer is starting up.
Then to reset the BIOS to its defaults click on ?F9? Key and select YES.
Now click on ?F10? Key to save the changes that are done in BIOS, the computer should automatically restart. Please check if the issue persists.

Hope this helps!!!

Do post us back if the issue still persists.

Best Regards

Shiva Kumar

Is it possible to have change the screen resolution of an Ideapad Z580 to 1920 by 1080? Using Control Panel the maximum screen resolution is 1366 by 768, which is useless for programming and application development. These are the specs of my Ideapad Z580:Intel Core i5 2.5 MHz , 8GB RAMNVidia GT640M 2 MB RAM, Intel HD 4000 GraphicsWindows 8 German 64 bit Thanks in advance.

Answer:Ideapad Z580 screen resolution

If you bought a Z580 with an 1366 by 768 display that is the maximum it will go, that is called the panels native resolution, and games and software looks best at this resolution, you can set a lower resolution but the image will look very slightly blured , some people get mixed up with the hdmi port maximum resolution which is up to 1920 x 1080 on an external TV or Monitor. John.

For example this one claims to be compatible with you model. You also need to determine the part number of your screen by referring to the hardware maintenance manual to insure that you have the right part.

Hi guys, there is a thunderbug dead inside my laptop screen, litterally underneath the text as i am typing now. is there a way to get it out, ive seen a couple of other forums with ideas such as using a suction plug to gently pull the screen and shaking it out, but that didnt work. is it possible for the screen to be removed, bug taken out, and put back in or for it to be replaced or something, i dont have any idea how to get rid of it. the laptop is 2 years old so i think its out of warranty, and i dont want to have a big phone bill after calling lenovo so they can tell me that they cant help. any responce would be much appreciated, especially if someone has/had a similar problem. Thanks!!Tom

Hello, many a times it may happen that some windows update tinkers with the screen brightness settings of the laptop. In such a case the the screen brightness would become dismally low and it would seem that the screen is not 'waking up'. The best remedy is to proceed with a system restore. Ensure that you choose an appropriate restore point so as to undo any recent updates especially from the time you have been experiencing screen brightness difficulties.

Question: Z580 Black screen

So, I've had my Z580 for a little over two years. Over the last month or so it would freeze up, requiring a restart. About a week ago, I went to use it and no display. The CPU fan is spinning, the indicator lights are lighted. Connecting another monitor has no display. CTRL ALT DEL, nothing.  No access to BIOS. External devices (mouse and keyboard) no indicator lights.  Removed battery and held start button down for 30 secs, nothing. Removed RAM one at a time, no change.  Removed HDD and was able to back up the info to my desktop.  So, from little info I've been able to get (mostly from here) it looks like I'll be replacing the motherboard. Lenovo, which surprised me, has the cheapest price for a replacement. I didn't want to purchase a used board and have the same problem another couple of months later. I'm also hoping that Lenovo has corrected what ever issue was creating this problem in the first place.

My Lenovo Z580 screen will go to black but then will come back up with a mouse movement or keyboard click. Sometimes it will then immediately go back to black, other times it will stay up for a few seconds before going black again. This "flashing" to black will continue and will increase in frequency until I get totally frustrated and turn the machine off.  When I then turn it back on the problem is usually resolved.  The first time this happened several weeks went by before it happened again.  Now it is occurring almost daily.  Any suggestions?

Question: z580 black screen

I searched this and found a couple of posts about z580 black screen. But I did not see any solutions.I have this a couple of times now. It is very annoying. It could be in any program, sometimes in MS Office when I was editing a word document, sometimes when I was in IE browsing the web, sometimes when I was in G-Mail.  The z580 LCD display suddenly messed up, it displayed something like color bars all over the screen, and the laptop would not response any more. I can hold the power button to turn it off, but when I tried to boot it up, it had a black screen. All the lights are on, and I can hear the disk or fan, but I can not see anything. I had to  tried to hold the power button to turn it off, and tried to reboot it again. And this could take many time before it finally booted up. I am not sure what made it work. And it could last a couple of weeks  then it would happen again. The black screen part is quite like the earlier posts here. It looks like that many people are having the same problem. ( just search "z580 blank screen" or "z580 black screen', you will see it. ). I wonder if any one has found what the real problem is. Thanks.

I?d like to advise you to connect the charger and unplug the battery and turn off the machine and press and hold on the power button for 10 seconds and check after this process if you are still facing the same problem with the screen and the lines on the screen.

I?d like also to ask you to share with us your Graphic Driver version installed on the system,
And please check the RAM performance at this stage.

Hope the information helps. Let us know.

Question: Z580 black screen

Lenova Z580 i5 2021?,750GB HHD,8gb ram 64bit.I've had this machine for 13 mo, came w/no OS installed kubuntu 14.04 been working great for 9 mo. A few months ago, on a start, only indicator lights came on, heard hhd for a second, and screen is black, to fix this a restart was needed, sometimes I would have to remove battery, and power cord, and press and hold power button for 30 sec. Now as before just indicator lights, and black screen. I've beenlooking for solutions for awhile, and the common denominator is that this is happening to many lenova owners, and I still can't find a solution. I don't know if its hardware or software or how to test with out screen.

Answer:Z580 black screen

Exactly the same. My dad's laptop died 2 weeks ago, 2 weeks after the extended warranty ran out. When the power button is pressed, the screen stays black with no backlight or anything. The only noticable sign of life are the lights on the front of the laptop and for CAPS lock, etc.  It has started on the odd occasion, which is very strange in itself, but only 1 in every 20/30 attempts will turn the laptop on.  Is this a motherboard replacement job, as I am seeing a lot of those sorts of comments on previous threads? Is there anything I can try before then?  Really disappointed in this laptop, it's been of poor build quality right from the start unfortunately. It's getting harder and harder to find a decent laptop manufacturer at the moment.

Answer:z580 - Which password to use if laptop is in safe mode ideapad z580 ?

hi akshu_13,

Welcome to the Forums.

If you're running on Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1, you should use the same password that you've set on your account.

If you're running on Windows XP, by default, you will see an additional Administrator account and the password is set to none. If you'll be using your own account and not the Administrator one then you should use the same password like in normal Windows.

Note:
Windows 8/8.1 can use a Microsoft Account and a Local Account. If you boot in Safe Mode only (not Safe Mode with Networking), you won't be able to use the Microsoft Account login as it requires internet access to verify your credentials, thus, you will need to use a Local Account.

Let me know if this helps you out.

After a few secosds (like 15 - 25) the windows is booting. I figured that when i disable my dedicated grapghic card in BIOS that problem doesnt occur. Win 7/Z580: Black screen on boot up, before login screen? =======================================I find some interesting posting in this forum. Thanks for keeping this forum to help windows/Lenovo community. I like to pick up the brain of this forum to resolve the black screen issue. I am not sure, whether it caused by virus. I use Microsoft Security Essentials. I am not able to run this in command prompt.I started my laptop this morning & login screen showed up. Once I entered my login credentials, I heard the sound that usually plays once a login is successful, but I ended up with a black screen. After this occurred, I had to hold down the power button to manually shut down the computer. Once I started it up again, I was prompted to do a system repair, which eventually ended up with all successful outcomes, but I now have a black screen with a cursor before the login screen now. I have no idea what caused this to happen. I bought a z580 a couple months ago and gave it as a gift to my fiancee. I gave it to her a month ago and it worked fine for a couple weeks, but now it will not start up at all.  Once the power button is pushed the screen will "turn on" but it is blank and black.  No post messages or anything.  For a few days we were able to mess around with taking the battery out, holding down the power button, etc, to get the machine to boot up and run for a while, but now it won't do anything beyond the black screen.  Has anyone had this issue and was able to fix it or is it gonig to require a hardware fix?

After waiting for 5-10 mins, I decided to force shutdown and restart, but it did not solve the problem. After many attempts, somehow I got it to bootup again. Then this morning, I was able to turn on the first try without any problems, I decided to test if it was really fixed or just a lucky fluke so I turned it off and restarted it, but this time the problem returned. However I was able to restart it succesfully after a few trys. I have been looking on this forum and other sites but none of the threads came up with a solution. I was able to find about 5 users that had similar problems to me and I wonder what is the reason behind this and are there any possible workarounds/fixes.  Specs:Intel i5-3210M6GB RAM1TB HDIntel HD 4000Windows 8 64 bIt

Answer:Z580 Black screen when booting

Wanted to say that my new Y400 has been randomly doing this.  Have had it about 2-3 weeks and it's done it probably 4-5 times and I just turn it off and back on and it comes back up fine.  Not sure what's causing it and while annoying I'm not really concerned about it, doubt it will cause any long lasting harm or get worse, probably just some wierd glitch that will happen time to time.

Hello,I'm starting to run into an issue with a S300 with Windows 8.1 After the system regularly boot Windows in graphic mode, at the moment to present the login request the screen goes black, it looks that the system is regurlarly active and running but no ways to get the graphic GUI. Going in SAFE MODE it will complete the boot and allows to get in the Windows GUI.Nothing was changed from previously working sessions... I've also tried to install te latest AMD drivers from SAFE MODE but this has not sorted any effect. Going into BIOS and disabling the Dedicated Graphic allows to finally get the system back to work...but it seems really slow. Any suggested test to verify possible issues with the AMD dedicated graphics ?Any other indications to isolate the problem ? ThanksRoberto

Hi, I have a IdeaPad Z580 (20135) which came with 4GB+2GB PC3 12800 Hynix DIMM. I decided to upgrade to 8GB, so I bough 1 matching  Kingston 4GB DIMM. To test the new Kingston DIMM first I installed it in slot 0 and booted up a CD with a memory test program (memtest86+) and the test went fine and everything seemed to be working. I then added the old 4GB Hynix DIMM but now the computer doesn't start. Blank screen and the battery led blinks orange. I took the new Kingston out and replaced the old modules but the situation is still the same. I tried different configurations with the modules but the malfunction remains. During the last few attempts the computer seems to start but with a black screen. I connected an external monitor but that's black as well. I'd appreciate your help figuring this outThanks

Answer:Z580 Ram upgrade then black screen and no booting.

hi abadr,

Welcome to the Lenovo Community.

Can you try to:

1. Clean the RAM slots with compressed air

2. When you get it to boot-up using the stock RAM, try to go into the BIOS by repeatedly pressing F2 during boot-up. When you're in, press F9 to reset BIOS defaults and press F10 to save and exit. Turn off the computer and try to insert the new Kingston 4GB DIMM

3. If you're planning to get 8Gb dual channel, the timings might be different on the stock 4GB PC3 12800 Hynix DIMM and the Kingston 4GB DIMM (see spoiler for sample timings). It is recommended to use two identical RAM modules (brand, timings, type and frequency) to achive dual channel capability.

Hope this helps.

My z580 has a problem from time to time with the startup. I press the power button, the indicators are lit, the fan is running, but the display does not start, and the system does not boot.  Then I press the Power button for 4 sec. Off. After several attempts to boot the system starts again properly. this occurs about once every 3-6 days.  Today to start I pushing the power button 23 times if anyone had a similar problem?

When turn on, screen is black. Used to be able to take battery out and it would work about 50% of the time when plugged it. Currently screen will not turn on regardless of power source, battery in or out, have tried display on/off button, f8. Nothing. Power and special buttons light up but nothing on the screen. Have tried connecting another monitor as had used majority of time in past and additional monitor cannot sense anything hooked up to it. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, My u410 Touch is 3 months old, runs on Windows 8 x64. On normal start-ups the screen shows a lenovo logo when I press the power button. Only recently, when I try to power up the laptop, it shows a black screen and does not load.  You can hear the fans running and all, but the screen is black and just freezes and doesnt load or power down until i force shutdown it. Tried some options from online forums (e.g may be due to the wndows 8 fast-start option, so i turned it off but it still doesnt work, updated all available updates via windows update but still doesnt work.) I can still power-up the computer, but its after persistent forced shutdowns till it is able to power up, sometimes it can take almost an hour. If anyone out there has this similar issue, please share your solution! Hope to be able to solve this issue soon as it is really getting on my nerves.

Problem:
Black screen. No BIOS read-outs. Not possible to enter the BIOS menu. CPU fan, hard drive and other indicator lights up and works normally.

Synopsis:
PC starts normally at about every 30 attempts. In this case, the BIOS (F2) or Windows 7 starts normally. Observations suggest that PC will only start when it is completely cold, ie when it has been off for at least 2 hours between 2 start-up attempts. This time can be reduced to about 15 min, if cooling elements are placed on both sides of the motherboard (below the PC, and on top of the keyboard).

What has been studied / tried?
Power supply and connectors - ok.
Battery ok (though worn and should be replaced because it will no longer charge for max capacity).
CMOS battery holds 3V (although volt drops at loads > 5 mA).
Ram, HDD and CPU is tested / changed and found ok.
Motherboards (incl. Graphics chip) has been tested and found ok using various test programs from the official Lenovo Support.
Visual inspection of the motherboard: Nothing to report.
Heating the graphics chip using heat gun (in order to eliminate any cold solder joints) did not solve the problem.
Attempt installation of the latest original BIOS executable file from the Lenovo Support (only possible under Windows) fails:

Answer:Lenovo Z580 will not start - Black Screen [SOLVED]

I first want to say thank you for such an informative, detailed write-up.  Everything in the procedure worked for me, with no issues, until the (optional) step of "Download and install the latest original BIOS Lenovo Support." I downloaded the Z580 BIOS updater from Link A, released 8/13/2014. Upon attempting the installation of the first file, Public.exe, it appears to be successful, the computer reboots, and then is stuck gets stuck in an infinite boot loop asking to select the boot device. This has been detailed by other users, Link B. If you decide to attempt the Lenovo BIOS update and get stuck in this boot loop, try the following:When the boot device screen comes up, press tab to select Bios OptionsUnder Bios Options, scroll to the rightmost menu and change the boot type from UEFI to Legacy (Link B). This allows the PC to boot, but under a slow legacy debugging mode - things are NOT fixed at this point. Insert your bootable USB key, containing Flash.bat and then restart the computerWhen the computer boots, keep pressing F12 to choose the boot device, and move the USB key to the top of the listThe portable Windows 98 OS will then start from the USB key, and you can reinstall the BIOS from the "Flash.bat" file. Note, I did not have to reactivate Windows after this procedure.  System Specifications:Lenovo Z580, model 2151, manufactured 2012/05/24Core i5-3210M processor2x4 GB RAMIntel HD3000 graphicsWindows 7 home premium 64... I got taken in by all of the messages from Microsoft insisting that my computer was fully compatible and that I should upgrade to Windows 10. It never dawned on me that I should have checked the Lenovo website first to be sure. After the upgrade I noticed two things: (1) the system seemed to be working pretty well, and (2) I couldn't find Dolby Home Theater v4 (one of my absolute favorite programs). When I finally looked at the Lenovo website I found the following page with the heading, "Dolby Home Theater does not work after Windows 10 upgrade" (https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht104006).When I checked the "Windows 10 upgrade supported list" (https://support.lenovo.com/documents/ht103535), as the page instructs, I saw that Ideapad Z580 wasn't on it. The page goes on to say that if your machine isn't on the list, "drivers have not been updated for that machine, and Lenovo does not recommended an upgrade to Windows 10." The page continues with possible solutions, but does it make sense to even try them? Then I found another page on the Lenovo site entitled, "Windows 10 Upgrade Guide - IdeaPad and Lenovo Notebook" (https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht103611). The news here wasn't any better. It says, "The following listed computer models include hardware components not fully compatible with Windows 10. Therefore, upgrading these models to Windows 10 is not recommended." Unfortunately, Z580 is on this list.So there are, according to Lenovo, software and hardwar... Read more

Hi everyone, I bought Ideapad Z580 in November 2012 installed with windows 7. Leagally upgraded to windows 8 under windows 8 upgrade programme. Now i am very desperate to upgrade further to windows 8.1, however i came across tons of problems faced by Z580 users regarding power mangement, display issues, wifi conncetivity and other tons of incompatability. I am requesting some system expert to tell me that if i proceed with the upgrade what could be the possible consequences? And wether it is still recommended to proceed with the upgrade?  Also i came across one forum wherein it was written that upgrading from windows 7 has terminated the lenovo warranty. I am holding 3 years extended warranty. Can installing new OS can result in termination of hardware warranty? Sounds strange.

Answer:Ideapad Z580 Upgrade to WIndows 8.1

Hi beats_1989,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Windows 8.1 has just been officially released and just like any other Operating System Patch, updates and fixes will sure to come. Most specially with the drivers, Im pretty sure sable drivers will be created for Windows 8,1 Support.
If I'm in your situation I'll Wait a little bit more until all issues has been resolved by community members and Lenovo.

You may encounter Driver and Software Compatibility Issues. Where in you might need to search in and out of Lenovo for Driver updates and do it manually.

Upgrading the Windows OS will not Void your Hardware Warranty, But their support for Preloaded Windows and Lenovo Software components may not be supported over the phone.

Still Any proven Hardware Defect or Malfunction will be covered by Lenovo through the coverage of your warranty, and there may be times that they will have to reload the Original OS/Software incase the Software / OS upgrade causes some hardware not to function properly. But surely you will be notified prior to making any changes on your Upgraded OS or Software.

Regards
Thanks,

I am working on a system running Windows 7 Home Professional.  The system will no longer boot to windows and stops at the Lenovo splash screen.  I can access the bios and I slaved the HD to my desktop and found errors on the HD including cross linked files and folders.  My system repaired the errors but still won't boot up.  The main goal here is to get Windows up and running again so that I can save all files and folders in MS Office.  No pst files exist.  I have ordered the complex services support package and it should be here in a day or two.  My question is, can Windows be resurrected in a manor that will not destroy MS Office/Outlook without loosing all files and subfolders.  Should I try to restore the MBR in debug mode?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:what is best windows for lenovo ideapad z580 ?

Hi jimrako,

This is really a tricky question because it depends on your hardware.

The best way I can think of answering this is by providing you the requirements for each then you can check against your requirements:

Windows 10:

RAM:
1 gigabyte (GB) for 32-bit or 2 GB for 64-bit
Hard disk space:
16 GB for 32-bit OS 20 GB for 64-bit OS

Graphics card:
DirectX 9 or later with WDDM 1.0 driver
Display:
800x600
Cons: a bit of a learning curve as it changes a lot

Windows 8

Processor: 1 GHz or faster processor
Memory(RAM): 1 GB RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
Hard Disk: 16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
Graphics: DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver
Cons: Without Touch it is not intuitive

Windows 7

Processor: 1 GHz or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
Memory(RAM): 1 GB of RAM (32-bit)/2 GB of RAM (64-bit)
Hard Disk: 16 GB of available disk space (32-bit)/20 GB (64-bit)
Graphics: DirectX 9 graphics device with Windows Display Driver Model 1.0 or higher driver
Cons: None really, it is awesome

Windows XP

Processor: 233 MHz CPU
Memory(RAM): 64 MB of RAM (may limit performance and some features)
Hard Disk: 1.5 GB of available hard disk space
Graphics: Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher-resolution video adapter and monitor
Cons: No longer supported by Microsoft

Hi everyone, i updated my Ideapad from Windows 8 to 8.1 (with windows store), and after the process i noted a lot of problems:1) i can't control screen's brightness, loked to the maximal levels (i tried with the normal buttons and also in the control panel, installed the previous version of intel HD graphics and again the new, but nothing)2) wifi connection (always problematic) does not work anymore at home, but in university yes... (i tried here too reinstalling drivers)3) the center of the bottom of the notebook gets hot in a few minutes (maybe where is the graphic chip)4) one key recovery does'n work, so the backup i've done the first day with my computer isn't usableif anyone can help me...

I used exactly the same 4gb samsung memory module that came with the notebook. What happened is i bought 2x Z580 so i put 2x original Samsung memory modules in one, and i bought 2x Crucial 4gb guaranteed compatibility memory modules i the other, and they both give a black/blank screen when i run the Win7 Memory Diagnostics on boot., and it stays like that until i am forced to hold the power button down to shut the notebook down. Both Z580 are completely stable no bsods or freezes while in Win7 and i have run memtest86+ 4.2 and v5.0b on both and i get zero errors. Anybody know why my Windows Memory Diagnostics will not run with 8GB, it runs fine with 4GB. I have tried tuning off UEFI and it makes no difference. Thanks John.

I have a lenovo Z580 pre-loaded with Windows 7 Home Basic that I upgraded to Windows 8 around 2 years back and then subsequently to Windows 8.1. Yesterday, I saw that the support.lenovo.com page for my product was showing a BIOS update for Windows 7 and 8. Thinking that it would run on Windows 8.1 also, I downloaded it and installed it, but alas I was wrong, and as soon as the update happened my system stopped booting and was stuck on the boot menu and kept on asking which device to boot from. I then changed the Boot Mode from the BIOS to Legacy and was able to boot into the system, but as we know the boot process becomes slow. The new BIOS version 5FCN95WW. While updating I did not take note of the previos BIOS version and nor did I take a backup of it. If anyone has the same specification as my laptop, please tell me the current version of BIOS. And also if you have not changed your BIOS version please upload a copy of your .WPH file.

Going crazy here and the support so far from Lenovo has been beyond poor so I'm turning to the forums.  I have two brand new Z580 Ideapad's, the only reason we bought them was they were cheap and had bluetooth.  Well I cannot activate bluetooth in anyway on the laptops.  There is no switch, I used the FN+F5 key and all I am prompted with is the Turn Wireless on or Off, nothing about bluetooth.  I've installed, uninstalled and reinstalled the Lenovo Power Management because I saw a number of posts referring to this piece of software.  I checked BIOS and only saw the option for Wireless.  All drivers are installed and reinstalled multiple times.  I see the Aerthos BT stuff running in the background and there are no conflicts in Device Manager, even looked for hidden devices. The laptops are Windows 7 32bit Enterprise, clean installs with only windows updates and ONLY Lenovo drivers installed IE I didn't use the Windows Update drives for anything.  Any help on where to go or what to do is appreciated.  My next move is to return these and never purchase Lenovo again if I can't get this resolved by Friday as my client is not happy at all. James

Answer:Ideapad Z580 Bluetooth + Windows 7/32 Not working

hi jrhaile,

Welcome to the Lenovo Community.

That's quite a hassle you got there. From what I know, if you press Fn+F5, you will get a "Lenovo Wireless Device Settings" menu.
 Spoiler (Highlight to read)
If you get the menu but you only see the wireless, what you can try is to:
1, Remove the AC adapter and Battery then press & hold the power button for 30secs (this drains the power off the unit).
2. Reconnect both AC adapter and battery and boot into the BIOS by pressing F2, when you're in, press F9 to set BIOS to default and press F10 to save and exit BIOS.
3. Boot into Windows and try to pair a blueooth device

If the same problem occurs you can try to reseat the Bluetooth module by checking the PCI Express compartment on page 42 of the hardware maintenance manual.

Hope this helps.

Hi. I've owned a Lenovo Ideapad Z580 for a few months now. I've noticed that in task manager disk usage is often going to 100% and this is due to "system". I'm guessing that means windows 8 is causing this bottleneck, but i believe there's a problem with windows 8 because it shouldn't constantly be bringing my laptop to a slowdown by using 100% of the disk. It could also be possible the driver need's updating or this is just an issues with my laptop i'm unsure. I've looked hard to find sollutions but can't find anything. If anyone has any help or a sollution please let me know. Cheers!

Hi All,  I have ideapad Z580 notebook (i7-3612QM @2.1GHz) with Windows 7 Home premium Service pack 1 (64Bits). I have troubles in my computer and want to reset windows to factory settings. I don't have any recovery discs, previous system image or OEM files to recover windows. I have tried 'system recovery' many-many times but if also ends up to the error. I had also tried 'Lenovo onekey recovery' but it also doesn't starts properly to reset windows.  Only option I can see (may be) is the windows recovery system with OEM (or recovery media) files (please correct me if I am wrong, and guide with other options).  Can somebody who has the ideapad Z580 with Windows 7 home premium SP1 help to share the initial OEM files (or recovery disc images (ISO files or so) ) so that I can recover my windows from this serious trap. Please advise if my understanding is completely wrong and may be there is any other option which I can use to solve this. Many thanks in advance.

Answer:IdeaPad z580 USB Driver For Windows 8.1 64bit

Try disconnecting your device first. Uninstall the driver with the yellow mark. Reboot then try connecting your device. In Windows 8.1 usually you don't need to install the usb drivers Windows itself will provide/install the driver.

Answer:ideapad z580 wifi not working properly with windows 8

hi yashikabajaj08,

Welcome to the Forums.

You're issue might be similar to this thread.

If you have gotten the problem after updating the wireless driver either from the Intel website or windows update, try to  rollback the driver from the previous version or perform a System Restore to undo the changes that were made.

If the above doesn't apply to you, can you provide the wireless driver of your wifi module and try to boot into Safe Mode with Networking to isolate if there's a third party security software that might be blocking your connection.

Let me know your findings,
neokenchi

Hi, I bought my Z580 on the 03/04/2013 apart from the keys sticking & seriously long boot times all was fine until yesterday while in the middle of using, it crashed to a screen saying it was compiling an error report due to an issue (didn?t make a note of error as I didn?t think it much of a problem) it shutdown then failed to restart to windows giving the error -"Recovery. Your pc needs to be repaired. The operating  system couldn?t be loaded the kernel is missing or contains errors.File:\windows\system\ntoskrnl.exeError code: 0xc0000185" press enter to try againpress F8 for startup settingspress Esc for UEFI firmware settings"" I?ve tried every option - nothing fixes it. After hanging ona dark screen for maybe 5 minutes the recovery screen appears. I?ve tried the recovery option pressing the recovery key. After maybe 15 minutes (yes 15 minutes) of a blue screen the one key recovery screen appears asking me to choose a task. No matter what image i select i get the error "the program cannot find the initial backup image. This function is currently unavailable" I don?t know why as I?ve not deleted any windows files & I?ve not touched the partition? I?ve even borrowed a windows 8 install disk & tried to refresh the windows system. The pc just hung on a blue screen for over an hour then the refresh started. I left this for a further hour maybe longer & it still remained on 0% so I shut down the laptop. Any hel... Read more

Answer:Ideapad Z580 Crashed & wont reboot to windows.

hi Elv,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums

From the looks of it, you may have a bad HDD or a bad memory module that's why you can't do a system recovery or even do a fresh installation of Windows 8. To verify this, you need to run a diagnostic on the HDD/RAM

I personally use UltimateBootCD for the diagnostics. To create a bootable CD:
1. Download the the UBCD ISO
2. Burn the ISO using imgburn
3. Insert the CD that you just created into the defective computer and reboot
4. Upon reboot, continuously press F12 and boot from the ODD/CD-DVD

To burn the diagnostic softwre on a flashdrive, follow this guide.

If you get any errors, you will need to contact lenovo for service.

Hope this helps.

Dear Team, I bought Z580 ideapad last week with Windows 8 pre installed. I wanted to take backup of my windows 8 OS for safe keeping. If in case my OS crashes or if I change my OS from Windows 8 to other OS and later if i want to change it back to my licensed Windows 8. I heard about this onekey recovery. Is this option available only for recovering the OS during crash ? or Can I take backup of my OS using this feature ?. Please tell me how to take backup of my Windows 8 OS using onekey recovery or by any other method avilable. So that at any time i might be able to have my licensed OS.

Answer:Taking Windows 8 Backup using one key recovery on my Z580 Ideapad

Hi friendLenovo offers one key reocvery to the user to revert to the factory install only. You can create a custom backup of your c drive via the onekey recovery application in windows. However, to use that backup, you will have to boot to onekey recovery by pressing the onekey button next to the power button to power on the laptop. So if somehow the okr breaks( i hope it doesn't), you will neither be able to reset to factory defaults nor use the backup created by you. So you can use the inbuilt recovery options of windows 8. See this threadhttp://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-8/Various-Ways-of-recovery-in-Windows-8/td-p/947369And this linkhttp://support.lenovo.com/en_IN/downloads/detail.page?DocID=HT076024Hope this helps

Hi, i Have recently updated my Ideapad Z580 to windows 8. While using the power management application i came to know it misses out the modes as it was in Windows 7. Its does not even shows up the visual display when you press the Thermal management key.  I have to go to the hidden icon tab to select the Energy management, wherein there are options which i cannot understand what are they use for like Intelligent power saver. The options provided are very different from the ones provided in the Windows 7 version. Also, the function keys & other keypad layout got changed when i upgraded to Windows 8. Like the function for turning the Wi-Fi & bluetooth in windows 7 got changed. To write special character (@) changed. its now typing (") when upgraded to windows 8. Function key feature (Fn+F4) not working in windows 8. Can anyone tell me is the windows 8 Energy management application better than the windows 7 one or viceversa. if not, is lenovo trying to upgrade the features in the windows 8 version of energy management application & other applications like in the windows 7 ones.   Thank you.

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad Z580 - Energy Management for Windows 8

Hi

Welcome To Lenovo Community

We are really sorry to hear about the issue you are facing,

Since you are facing issues with the new version of Lenovo energy management, you can uninstall the current version of energy management and try installing Lenovo energy management to check if the FN keys are working correctly

Then download and install the following

Power Management Software 8.0.2.4   --- 32 Bit

Power Management Software 8.0.2.4 --- 64 Bit

You may also wish to try the suggestion from the below thread

http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-Z-and-P-series/Z570-Lenovo-Energy-Management-for-Windows-8...

Also for change in the input method for special characters please verify if you have selected the right keyboard layout
To verify that Open Control Panel Switch to icon view, select Language
Change your Language preference -- Select English (United States)
Save. The click on options of the language to select the keyboard layout of your preference

I just bought this laptop for about 1 month, the laptop work fine before. But after...I don't know maybe after the windows update, the driver make the screen flickering and some dots appear on the screen, sometimes the screen lagging and went black. I'm pretty sure it's because of the driver because if I disable it, everything is fine, but that is just a temporary fix, every games is unplayable when I disable the driver. I tried to reinstall it using driver from Intel, Windows, Lenovo but none of them work(newest)

Lenovo Ideapad z580 Win10 64 I updated the bios with the private update (I know now that I should have used the public update) Then it showed this menu:http://i.imgur.com/kZaO2tf.jpg Whenever I selected HDD, the screen would go black for a couple of seconds and return to this menu. I fixed it by going into BIOS and changing bootmode from UEFI to Legacy. it booted but now everything is slow. It takes 5 mins to boot up and a further 15 minutes to reach usable speeds (I only have 4 startup programs). I tried changing it back to UEFI and it gives me the same problem as shown in the picture. I tried installing the public update, but it says that I cannot update as the current bios version is the same or newer. I went into BIOS and enabled BIOS back flash, and now when I try to start the public update, it just crashes. I also cannot access the start menu (this problem may be seperate and unrelated) I have backed up files and am prepared to do a clean reinstall of Win10, but I feel this won't work as it's a BIOS issue. The computer is unusably slow: what should I do? Thanks

I own a Ideapad Z580, and upgraded to Windows 8 yesterday. I noticed that the Intelligent Touchpad stopped working after the upgrade. I installed the appropriate driver, Synaptics Touchpad Driver for Microsoft Windows 8 (32-bit, 64-bit) - IdeaPad Z380/Z480/Z580, hoping it'd work, but to no avail. I also tried reinstalling/overwriting my existing 64-bit driver when prompted by my system to do so.The scrolling, pinching, and sideways scrolling do not work at all; it is quite frustrating. Please help.

Answer:IdeaPad Z580 right click function does not work after Windows 8.1 update

If it is some hardware issue it cannot be fixed using synaptics driver installation but if you are talking about 2finger tapping action for right click then here is the solution.install latest synaptics driver for windows 8.1 from lenovo website , then restart your system. After restart , press    (windows+R) then type "regedit" then open registery editor, now use the picture to navigate to that registery entry, then check for the entry '2FingerTapAction'  . if its not there create new dword using right click and then change its name exactly as '2FingerTapAction' and now change its value to '2' , sign out once , then it should work fine

I bought a ideapad z580 3 months ago and thought of upgrading to windows 8 (64bit). it was a pain. finally i had to revert to windows 7 because of driver installation errors & missing drivers. You click on a setup & it should install. Also i dont get to see 'Lenovo OneKey theatre' software on 'Other Softwares' category.I should call these as buggy drivers for windows 8 and dono why lenovo is pushing it to the support site. Hey guys,I bought a Lenovo IdeaPad Z580 in December, and ever since I have received it, I have not been able to utilize the Nvidia GeForce GT635M graphics included with the laptop. My laptop has Windows 8 64 bit included. I reinstalled the drivers from the Lenovo website (even tried the Chinese website as I read some people have better luck with their drivers). I installed the chipset, then intel hd drivers, and finally the NVidia. I can open the Nvidia control panel, and set preferences to use the Nvidia card. However, no application will actually use the Nvidia card. Every benchmark is using the HD4000 intel graphics, and some games in which I can choose the graphics within the game only show the Intel graphics.I have set the power plan settings to high performance, and every other setting that I can think will affect it, with no success. Is this simply because there are no compatible switchable graphics drivers with Windows 8 as of yet?  Just trying to make sense of this as I bought the laptop for light computer gaming, and cannot use the integrated card at all.

Not sure if it's a glitch with the driver though but if you have installed the following, graphics switching between the onboard and discrete graphics should work.

Hi guys, as with most people on this forum I would guess that my arrival is in the same nature. I have a problem, and I need help. And while most people will also have read the same topics as me regarding this problem (that seems to be quite frequent), I have yet to find a solution. So, my problem is I bought this laptop 3 days ago as it has "1GB dedicated graphics" which based on a search of the Lenovo website was an Nvidia GT635m graphics card, happy with this, I bought the laptop. I have since received the laptop and I can only find Intel 4000HD graphics available and unfortunately they just do not cut it. That said, I have read this forum (and many others) And here is what I have tried:- I have updated all my drivers based on what I could find on the Lenovo support website. Including Chipset, Management Engine and Intel VGA- I have TRIED to install Nvidia Optimus and GT635m graphics drivers. Which would not allow following error; "Graphics driver could not find compatible hardware"- Following another forum suggestion I read I tried looking at the BIOS to ensure Optimus was enabled as the graphics device only to find that there was no Optimus or Graphics Device option in the BIOS at all. And with that I have read all that I think is relevant and now I'm starting to think that the Lenovo I've bought does not have the Nvidia graphics set that I thought when I purchased and I may have spent a lot of money for something that will not do the job for me. Does anyone... In general, if uefi is enable the disk can be formatted as gpt style partition disk. If uefi is disable the disk can be formatted as an mbr partition style disk. The Win 7 64 bit installer can install Windows in a gpt style disk.

Hello NikosGr, Windows 8 is still a new Operating System, therefore glitches still need to be worked out in future updates. Make sure to go to Lenovo's support website and see if there are any drivers for those devices for Windows 8. Try the Windows 7 drivers too as some of those will work with Windows 8. As for the Broadcom card being slow, they are decent cards, but not the best. I've had issues with mine when I first got my laptop. Hope that helps.

Doing a factory restore through OKR will result to a state of the os where the present updates are not yet installed thus the restarts after the updates. One way to prevent windows from restarting due to an update is to not connect to the internet.

My kid has been using this laptop and loved it, but mentioned a while ago it was difficult to power it back on after turnned it off. However she managed to work around by putting it in hibernate/sleeping mode only, or recycling the system many times (by holding on power button to force it off). The issue was black screen (no Lenovo logo) but computer was on. I didn't pay much attention because she can still make it work, and I was too busy. Last week, there was a windows update (again) and the computer was forced recycle. It never comes back alive again. The same, computer is humming, but no any visual output on screen, just black. Tried novo button, bootable USB, external monitor, all no use. Check the warranty, just over by 2 months! Asked the service store, to fix will cost at least $200-$300 to replace the motherboard! It does not make sense when spent a bit more could buy a new notebook. But my kid liked it and it does not make sense to throw it away either, when it still looks pretty new and only being used very lightly (schoolwork only). It is sad, especially the brand has been gainning my trust. I probably don't expect a "good" solution either from Lenovo or community, but just throw my frustration here (only because have just registered the account and there is no support email or web form). If Lenovo want to make customer happy, the part shouldn't be so expensive for a short-lived laptop! Just by the way, there are many posts about Ideapad's black screen i... Read more

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad U410 - no screen output or black screen, and just out of warranty

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Sorry to hear of all the problems.  Here are a couple of things to try........

First, try a reset of the BIOS.  The procedure can be useful in resolving some hardware conflicts which your computer may have.  Just do this......

1. Unplug the charger / adapter. 2. Press and hold the Power Button for 15 seconds. 3. Plug in the charger / adapter if needed and power up the system to see if the problem was resolved.

If you are comfortable working inside your laptop. try this........

Try the reset again with the battery removed.

If the reset didn't resolve the problem then you may have a failed piece of hardware preventing the bootup. Remove the battery, hard drive, optical drive, memory, wireless card and bluetooth if it is installed. Now try to power up the stripped laptop. With all the hardware removed you should have lights come on and it may possibly beep since there is no memory installed. If the laptop is showing signs of life start adding hardware one piece at a time starting with a memory module and boot up the laptop. If it doesn't power up try the memory in the other slot. Also try the other memory module separately in both slots if two are available. If it is still showing signs of life add another piece and boot. Do this for each item until it doesn't power up again. The last piece of hardware installed is your problem part.

My laptop has experienced blue screen over three times.  And the last time just happened few minutes ago. The system restarted after blue screen. But it stopped after I enterred the password. The cursor can move, but the entire screen is black. Use alt+ctl+delete can access the task manager option, but when I choose the task manager, the screen turn black again.  Right before the blue screen, I was watching vedio in the yotube and did not open other softeware. Can anyone help me fix this problem. Thanks!!

Please help. My Ideapad has basically stopped working.  My operating system is Windows 7 Home Edition.  A few days ago, my computer froze up and I got the blue Windows screen that says: "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.  A process or thread crucial to system operation has unexpectedly exited or been terminated..."  The blue screen went on to say that I should restart Windows with safe-mode and remove any recently added programs.  I did this and I believe I successfully removed Java, which is the only new software I updated recently (although I wish I had not).  I was also able to restore my computer to about a week before the crash. However, only rarely am I able to get windows to start again at all, whether in safe mode or not.  I'd say 4 out of 5 times, I am seeing the Lenovo boot-up screen for about 3 minutes, and then I get a black screen that says the following: Intel UNDI.  PXE-2.1 (build 082)Copyright (C) 1997-2000 Intel Corporation This Product is covered by one or more of the following patents:US5,307,459, US5,434,872, US5,732, US6,570,884, US6,115,776 andUS6,327,625 Realtek PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller Series v2.26 (090219)PXE-E61:  Media test failure, check cablePXE-M0F:  Exiting PXE ROMOperating system not found That message repeats itself if I press any key, and if I press the power button the... Its only on Windows 8 and above that drivers are automatically detected and installed. For Windows 7 you have to manually install them.
