Y400 SSD Caddy

Question: Y400 SSD Caddy

Just wondering if something like this would work on for the Y400's Ultrabay slot. Planning to upgrade with a Sandisk SSD depicted here.

Preferred Solution: Y400 SSD Caddy

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,I just got my Y400 today with a 16gb ssd as a cache drive. What should be the brand of your 16gb ssd that it comes with? Mine is Samsung, but i heard that someone has a Sandisk one who ordered it a month ago....Does lenovo switch the 16gb ssd to a Samsung one from now on?I also noticed that the transfer rate of my Samsung 16 gb ssd is 3gb/s,But the transfer rate of the Sandisk 16gb ssd is 6gb/s....Does this matter when you use it as a cache drive to boost up the 1TB Sata which has a transfer rate of 3gb/s only? Thanks!

Question: Lenovo Y400

Hello,I currently own a Lenovo3000 Y400 (9454-48A). I am planning to upgrade the memory; so I would like to know the maximum memory I can use on this computer. I would also like to know what type of memory I need to purchase.Have a great day.Thank you.

Answer:Lenovo Y400

Originally it comes with a 512MB RAM DDR2 667MHz.You can add a Max of 2GB Additional to that 512MB if you are using Windows XP. They also say that, if you are using Windows XP you can have a max of 3GB. But I tried it but it won't boot. so I settled for 2GB+512MB instead. I also read that for Windows Vista 64bit, you can have a max of 4GB. not sure if it will work. haven't tried it yet. by the way, i have the same laptop - Lenovo 3000 Y400 9454-48A.

Okay, so this is my first post ever. I've been searching for a laptop, for under $800, for gaming and video editing/compositing. I decided on the Y500, since it had the best features for that kind of money. So here's my dilemma; The Canadian website has the base model, for $749.99,  with a 1080p screen, GT750M GDDR5 2GB, i5 3230m,6GB ram, 500GB HDD.http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/webca/LenovoPortal/en_CA/catalog.workflow:category.d... The US website has the same model, but with 768p screen, GT650M GDDR5 2GB, i7 3630qm, 8GB ram, and 1TB HDDhttp://shop.lenovo.com/betaweb/us/en/laptops/ideapad/y-series/y500/ So, which one is a better buy

Question: Y400 Running Hot

So, my Y400 just hit one year old, and it seems to be running very hot on the bottom of the keyboard, particularly the lower left corner. I blew out the heat sink with some compressed air, and have a cooler pad underneath.  I question the value of the cooler pad, as it seems like most of the heat diffuses through the wrist area and the keyboard.  Anyone else enountering this, or have any advice on cooling the old girl down?

I suggest Cleaning the Heatsink and re-pasting (thermal paste)  would resolve the Temperature issue.

Question: y400 ssd support

hi i want to install samsung ssd 840 pro in my y400 laptop. i want to know that y400 support sata 3 or its sata 2?

Answer:y400 ssd support

It is SATA 3, though I'd recommend getting a mSATA size SSD and just put it in the mSATA slot. That way you don't have to remove anything. The mSATA slot is SATA 3.

Greetings, I'm a new owner of a Y400 and overall, I am very pleased so far with the performance of this computer.  It has many earmarks of a well-conceived design for its category of computer. That said, while recently trying to type alt codes in my word processor so I can produce special characters (e.g. so that  I can type 'resumé' instead of 'resume'), it appears that Lenovo didn't see fit to include the ability to:  enable num lock or give access to an alternative numeric keypad by doubling up keys using the FN key (on other laptops of comprable size, the keys that do double duty for a numeric keypad are 789uiojklm)I did some research online and found this article: http://fsymbols.com/keyboard/windows/alt-codes/laptop/I've been really hoping that something in that article will enable me to be able to use alt codes as needed without the need for an external usb numeric keypad but I haven't been able to get any of it to work on the Y400 yet.  I'm hoping someone on this forum might be able to help me with that.  If not, I can't fathom why Lenovo wouldn't include this functionality on the Y400 other than it was an uintentional oversight on an otherwise well-engineered notepad. Thanks very much for the help.

Question: Y400 No Video

The on-board video on my Y400 has stopped working, but I do get video from an external monitor.  It started intermittantly, and I assumed it was due to damage from the left hing failure.  I replaced the hinges and the LCD cable and thought all was better, but the LCD became intermittant again, and now never works.  It looks like I have backlight. I've heard that inverter failures are common with LCD problems, but can't find a replacement inverter anywhere.  Is the inverter just for backlighting?

Answer:Y400 No Video

hi daeven,

Welcome to the Forums.

From your description, it does seem like you have a failing LCD panel. Upon looking at page 84 of the hardware maintenance manual, the Y400 uses a LED type panel (unlike the older CCFL, these LED screens doesn't have an inverter board that controls the backlight).
  - Link to picture

From the looks of it, you may need to replace the entire screen.

I need to replace the HDD on my Y400 Lenovo, however I'm not sure what specs the replacement HDD requires.  I know the laptop is also a few years old so I wasn't sure if there were better options on the market than what is listed in the manual. Currently the HDD is 1T HDD with 16GB SSD, I would like to find something just as fast but not neccessarily a full SSD as those seem to be on the more expensive side.  Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated, thank you! On a side note, this HDD failed fairly quickly after the original purchase, is this a common problem or just poor luck on my part?

Welcome!  Thanks for joining.

Please do update the community on your system when you get it back from service.   It sounds like you have a number of symptoms, and I'm sure there will be suggestions, but perhaps most or all of these will be resolved by the repair.

Following the repair, I might suggest you read some of the existing discussion about sound and microphone, and add comments to an existing discussion thread rather than starting another one.

If your symptoms are truly unique, then please do share.

Question: Y400 cannot boot

Hi,My lenovo y400 can no longer boot. It gets stuck at the lenovo screen. After waiting for a lot of time(at the lenovo screen), sometimes it does enter the Windows Recovery Environment(W8 64) but troubleshooting it is of no effect. I tried to refresh the system, only to loose the data on my hard disk but I still cannot boot my system. The 'novo' button is not having any effect as the computer just gets stuck at the lenovo screen. I referred the thread "http://support.lenovo.com/en_IN/diagnose-and-fix/detail.page?DocID=HT075709" and followed the instructions. I was able to access the bios(InsydeH20) with f2 key and loaded all the default settings but the problem persists. The thread suggested that the bios needs to be flashed but I cannot find any firmware(bios) update for lenovo y400 at the lenovo site. I am currently booting in ubuntu using a bootable usb stick. Please reply promptly with suggestions. Thank You.

I want to buy either Y400 or Y500 but prefer smaller size Y400 but I have concern about the number of usb 3.0 port on Y400. Could someone own Y400 verify with me -- how many usb 3.0 port?  is it one or two? according to data sheet Y400 has ONE usb 3.0 and 2 usb 2.0. But for similar model (just bigger and higher resolution screen) Y500, it has TWO usb 3.0 and 1 usb 2.0. I know for sure Y500 (according to one owner)  has TWO usb 3.0 and 1 usb 2.0, but not sure if the Y400 data sheet is a typo on USB 3.0 port.  I am hoping Y400 has TWO USB 3.0 port. Any insight is appreciated. Question: Y400 Recovery help

Hi all,My Y400 recovery button is not working anymore. By right during bootup i can get to a menu that allows me to restore my laptop to factory something like reformat by pressing the "novo" button on my laptop. now it does not work anymore.I think i somehow messed up the hidden partition used for restoring my windows while trying partitions softwares. So does anyone know anyway i get can access my laptop's hidden recovery partition to copy all the contents inside and maybe burn to a bootable disc so i'm able to restore my laptop back to factory settings(reformat) again? Or make the fix the novo button? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Y400 Recovery help

Maybe you changed partitions sizes? If so you must get back to original partitioning scheme - try to remember it.Can't tell on restoring default configuration - in Russia it's not free (because it is not a warranty case) and can be made only in service centres.I know for sure that no burning disks is suggested in NOVO recovery system.

Question: y400 keyboard

I have a y400. Ever since I got it (in January) the keyboard randomly locks up, puts in 3.bn/ random characters and stuff. I think I'll leave what it randomly types because it might help us diagnose the problem (if I can fix it). The symptom of the keyboard entry is usually all stuff from the top row of the keboard, qwertuiop,.z*cx20193 After its done typing, the keyboard locks up until one of the keys that can change focus is pressed like the windows key or the right click context key. This has 3.bneen going on through several reinstalls and didn't happen during the short time I used Ubuntu on this laptop. I don't think that this is a virus (unless my recovery image has the virus) bn3./  because this was happening during the windows 8 OOBE during the last 3.bn/ reinstall.  I'mz*cx20193 going to go back through and bold what the keyboard entered on its own. Also, it tried to navigate away from this page several times while I was building this post.

Do a Power Drain by Removing Battery and AC,

You can also try
Run the computer without the battery
Run the computer without AC charger
              Try using Diff Power outlet.
See if any show any difference when using your Keyboard.

If still same thing is happening I would consider Calling Technical Support for Assistance. Possible it's a faulty Keyboard

Hey Community, So I sent my laptop to the depot before my warranty expired to fix one of the hinges that supports the screen broke off. After receiving the laptop, I have had connection issues with my wireless. When I'm plug directly to the ethernet, no problem. The connection was spotty with wifi, but it came and went, didn't think too much of a problem.  Now, when i'm running off battery only, I cannot connect. I tried resetting, but to no avail. Strangely, when i'm plugged in via adapter for power, I can connect without any issue.   The problem is when I'm remote and using battery power, I can't connect at all.  Anyone experience this problem? Lenovo won't take back the unit since it's past my warranty period now. It's a minor inconvenience having to sit next to an outlet any time I need to connect via wifi.

Hi- I just received my new Y400 and am having some issues.  Installed a mSSD, clean install of windows 7 ultimate, and now having some driver problems.  Everything is showing up as installed in device manager but it seems that something is amiss. 1. Brightness adjustment with the keyboard shortcuts has no effect. The onscreen display popsup but has no effect. I've tried a couple of different power management versions along with the registry hotfix. Maybe someone has found the right combination and lead me in the right direction. Recently my DVD/CD Drive stopped working. Under the device manager, it says it is functioning properly, but after a disc is inserted, it doesn't detect it or read it. Is this a software/driver issue? Or is the Drive itself faulty and need to be a warranty fix?

Answer:Y400 DVD/CD Drive Not Working

Are you saying that when a CD is inserted into the drive that auto play does not start or that you cannot manually open the DVD drive to view the contents? If it the Auto Play problem then you can change the settings in the control panel under "Auto Play".  If you cannot access the disk at all I would check to see if Microsort update "upgraded" the driver.  If so, then go into device manager, double click on your DVD/CD drive, select the driver tab and press the "rollback driver" button.  Hopefully that will fix it.  If it does you will need to change your settings in Microsoft Update to "Download Updates But Do Not Install" option. Then when you next get a notification that Microsoft has downloaded updates you will need to look in it for the DVD drive update, de-select it and left click on that update and select "hide update".  If this does not fix your problem your next step is to go to a reputable website (example cnet.com) and search for DVD drive testing program.  You can find free ones there that work fine.  After that it should tell you if your DVD drive is bad.  If so and you are out of warranty you will need to take it to a computer repair center or do some research yourself to find a replacement drive will fit your computer.  The last option is you can pick up an external DVD drive that connects via USB and just ignore the bad one in your computer.  The USB DVD drive will most likely be cheaper tha... hi 2ndname,at this moment, download page doesn't contain windows 7 drivers but there may be an update for the future.for windows 7, you can download the drivers from support page by selecting different model. as long as the manufacturers are the same, drivers should work. also, you can download the drivers from its manufacturers website eg intel, realtek...hope this helps.

Question: Y400 wifi issues

My Y400 will keep dropping the wifi and not allowing me to reconnect without restarting the computer first. It happens about once every 4 hours. Anyone else having similar problems and any ideas on a fix? Thanks,Dave

Answer:Y400 wifi issues

hi DapDunkerley,

Can you try to:
1. Update your wireless card driver via the lenovo support site
2. Check If you have a Realtek RTL8723A wireless adapter under the Device Manager and apply this fix as it similar to your issue.
3. Open a command prompt, type ping -t www.google.com. If you get a "request timed out", check this article.

If the wifi still disconnects, try to boot into Safe Mode with Networking and check if the issue persists.

Let me know your findings

Cheers

I bought the Lenovo y400 for quite a few weeks now, today is the first time I tried to swap out the Optical Drive to give the laptop some air, but then suddenly the Optical Drive was stuck (I did pull the "2 buttons" at the bottom to remove the Ultra-bay). So I tried to disassenble the laptop to look inside see what happen but the bottom cover was also stuck at one point as well and I couldn't disassemble it. here's the question: 1.What should I do to swap out if the Optical Drive is stuck? should I force it out or disassemble the laptop and take it out? 2.Even so, does Lenovo Y400 have a dual Graphic SLI slot support? (I heard Y400/Y500 do have dual Graphic cards but I'm not so sure) is it GT 650m SLI or GT 655m SLI? And does Lenovo sell it?   Appreciate for spending your time helping me.

Answer:I have a few questions regard Y400.

1. Im not sure what you should do about that, call tech support theyll help you out2. Yes, it has SLI its the only reason i bought it, you can get the same performance of a GTX670m or higher with the overclocking. you have to swap it out with ultrabay and it is available, go look through  shop on the website, and go to accesories and software. If you have any more questions send me a message ill be happy to try and help.

No charging LED light at all when plugged into AC Adaptor, thereafter tried the following:1) Removed battery and plugged into AC Adaptor, nothing lights up as well2) Only battery in, tried powering on, nothing happens.3) Tried brand new battery bought from service centre the previous day (Oh, the irony of it all!), same as 2), nothing happens. Charger is definitely working as tested using multimeter. Looks like it's something wrong with the voltage regulator/some other power component? Laptop is 18 months old. Wondering if this is the case, how fast can I get it fixed? I am flying off in a few days for quite a few months and I was supposed to bring the laptop with me, so hoping I can get it fixed in time! (looking at about 2-3 working days left?)

Answer:No power, No LED lights at all. (Y400)

Sounds like some device inside is dead. By sympthoms it' mobo or cpu - all others won't caue such a behaviour.Bad luck. Way to service centre or new laptop buying procedure...

Occasionally, when I discharge my Ideapad down to around 30% or lower and then plug it in, it does not charge.  The battery icon shows that it is charging, but the level does not increase.  The laptop runs fine whether or not it is plugged in, and it seems to run off of AC power when available, buut the battery does not charge.  Normally, when this happens, it can be fixed by toggling the battery charge mode in Energy Management repeatedly, removing and reinsterting the battery, unplugging and plugging in AC power, et cetera.  Recently, however, it has gotten "stuck" in this state and cannot charge at all.  I have tried toggling the mode, removing adn inserting both the power cord and battery, restarting, and various combinations thereof. It is important to note that the battery indicator does not say "Plugged In, Not Charging" as it does when set to charge to 60%.  The only indication anywhere that the battery is not charging is that the level simply does not rise.

Hi, can anyone kindly help and guide me the steps clearly in downgrading vista to xp for my Y400? I tried installing xp straight using the cd, however it doesn't seems to work. I have browsed through the forum thoroughly but I don't really understand how to go about doing it.  Thanks in advance to whoever is willing to help =)

Answer:Need help in downgrading Y400 from vista to xp

Welcome to the forum, klementkrz. Before you decide to downgrade, make sure that you have all the drivers for XP otherwise you'll run into problems of finding the right  drivers. Once you got all the XP drivers, back up all your data to CDs or external hard drive. When you insert the XP CD, your internal harddisk will not be recognized by XP. You need to go to your BIOS first and set the harddisk Serial ATA(SATA)>Set AHCI to Compatability. Save and exit. When you insert again the XP CD, it will now install succesfully. You can also google the step by step procedure if you need to get more information. Hope this helps.

But, after it loads the files, it just gets stuck at the "Starting Windows" screen.I had to change a security setting in the BIOS in order to boot from DVD drive. Hi!I recently got a y400 for college and was wondering how I could get my hands on a replacement battery. I want the computer for a while, with my biggest worry being that I will fry the battery in a year or so. Original Lenovo laptop batteries can usually be found on the websites below but for the meantime, there's no available replacement battery yet for the Y400:

I am about to buy 16GB/8x2 of ram for my new Y400. (It came with 8GB/4x2.) But, I am wondering if it would take advantage of the lower power 1.35v RAM that is avaiolable now, or if it will end up running at 1.5v anyway. If the latter, I would just buy the less expensive 1.5v version. But, if it does support the lower voltage RAM, I'd prefer it for what I assume would be slightly better battery life. Also, will the Y400 take advantage of lower CAS latency? If so, I'd spend more for RAM with a latency of 9 than ones with a latency of 11. Thanks

About two months ago I recieved my Lenovo Y400. Everything about it has been great except one thing. The entire case is prone to clicking when pressure is applied to certain areas. The computer just feels cheaply made due to this. I am wondering if this is normal, or if perhaps a couple screws are missing, and I should have it sent in.To be specific, the most annoying spot would be the middle of the base of the laptop, above the keyboard, and to the right of the power button. Applying pressure hear causes it to snap inwards by about a centimetre, and emit two loud snapping noises, very similar to a jar of pickles. The other areas where there seems to be problems is on the casing directly to the left and right of the screen. These do a very similar thing when pressure is applied. So, is this normal, or did I recieve a faulty laptop? Lastly, if I do need to send it in, would I lose everything on my hard drive? Thanks!

I got my Y400 in march and the newer version came out in April with a new graphics card and I was wondering if the Graphics card was compatible with my Y400. My card is the Geforce GT650m and can it be replaced with the Geforce GT750m and are their any other upgrade options for the computer too?

Answer:Ideapad Y400 upgrade

hi EHaese,

 Welcome to Lenovo Community!

The GT650m GPU is soldered in to the motherboard of your Laptop and cannot be replaced.
Replacing it means replacing the Mobo aswell and getting the new one.

The Ultrabay 750m might not work either as Ultrabay will function as SLI and will need the same Graphics Model which is GT650m inyour case. Like in this Post that two Different Graphics will not work as SLI

-As a Graphics upgrade I would recommend the Ultrabay 650m so it will work as an SLI with your integrated 650m.
and for other upgrades. you can check the Lenovo Personal Reference Guide for your model and Additional Upgrades like Maximum RAM,HDD and other ultrabay Devices

Hope this helps,

Hey guys, I was wondering if it's worth buying a second GPU with the Y400. Does it make that much of a difference with a 2nd GPU? Apparently it tends to make gaming "1.5x better." I am not too tech savvy but I was wondering if theres only one Y400 gpu add on or are/will there be more in the future? Thanks

Answer:Worth buying a second GPU with Y400?

you talking about SLI? yeah, on supported games it does have a significant improvement. your y400 i would assume comes with a nvidia gf650m card, and the compatible sli addon would be the gn35, i think. nvidia's sli technology dictates that the secondary card needs to be on the same chipset, so i doubt that even if a different model with higher specs comes out, it it unlikely to have any benefits on your existing y400.

Y400 has a very good graphics card and CPU, and that's the only reason I bought it. But soon after I used it for a few days, I understood what a big mistake I have made.  Electronicis with high configurations doesn't necessarily lead to good user experiences.  1. Size I have an old 14 inch Thinkpad which is almost five years old and started to have blue screen problem, so I purchased Y400, I do play computer games and I know Thinkpad is not for that. You know what, Y400 is about 1 inch wider than my Thinkpad. So ridiculous. Y400 is so big due to its aweful design.  Just to remind you, Y400 is much bigger than a normal size 14 inch laptop. The actual size is close to a 15 inch laptop. The edge is very wide.  2. Bad keyboard experiences.  It's definitely not good for typing. The key is very small and the distance between keys are not good and lead to more typos.  I am wondering, since it has so much more space at the edge, why not just make the keys bigger?   Remember, the keys are smaller than normal chocolate keyboards.  3. Windows 8.  I like the start screen which could display calendar events and new emails notifications. But the computer is not very stable and reliable, sometimes your screen freezed, and you have to refresh your laptop. I wait for two hours because the computer seems to be stuck in the refreshing process.  4. Power AdapterIt's very big. ... Read more

Question: Y400 Speaker Issue

The sound coming from my computer's built-in speakers are extremely quiet, much quieter than what they originally were when I purchased the laptop. Sound from all other outputs are completely normal. Hello,Today i just turned on my Y400, and it doen't recognize the speakers. I just installed a windows update. I updated the drivers, rebooted and shut down the laptoop but nothing helps!! What should i do?Thanks orimac11

Answer:Lenovo Y400 No Sound

hi orimac11,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Is the sound working fine before you installed the Windows Update?

Can you try to:
1. Navigate to the Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound and under the Sound Properties, check if the built-in speaker is set as the default playback device.
2. Open Device Manager (press Winkey+R > type devmgmt.msc) and under Sound, video, and game controllers, right click and uninstall the Audio Device and reboot.
3. If you're still not getting any sound from the speakers and the volume bar fluctuates, try to plug-in a headset or an earphone and observe

If the sound is working by using a headset/earphone, it's possible that the windows update corrupted the driver or there's a short on the speakers. You can try uninstall the sound driver completely and re-install it back or you can perform a system restore to undo any changes that might have caused the issue. If this fails, you may need to contact lenovo for service.

I personally bought one, it is absolutely worthless, my y400 actually runs cooler with the drive bay empty, the fan is low speed only, and it was only blowing out cold air for me, it seemed like it was stealing the cold air that the other fan would use to cool the cpu side of the laptop. I think I am just going to gut the fan portion out of it and just leave it in their empty just kind of like an intake vent, it will save a bit of weight over the optical drive, or my other thought was maybe trying to flip the fan inside the housing, so it sucks air in instead of blowing it out. I haven't done either yet because I've just been frustrated with wasting the money

Answer:about y400 after bios update

hi ChrisWang,

Upon checking the lenovo drivers page, there's no BIOS update available for the Lenovo Y400/Y500. Did you use a modded BIOS to flash your system? If you did, it's  probably the one that may have caused the problem and may have bricked the system.

What you can try is to use an external monitor to verify if it's just a monitor issue. If not, you will need to have it looked at a local computer repair shop as the unit have no international warranty coverage in Austrailia yet.

Hope this helps

I have ideapad y400 and am trying to dualboot windows8 and linux.  When I press the bios button on the side of computer, the computer cannot find the usb in the boot menu or the bios.  I am positive the USB is bootable because it works on my old laptop.  There is no option to boot from USB.  In bios, USB Boot is yes (by default).  I can only boot from windows boot manager and ipv4 and ipv6.  No usb. I read that the USB may not work with lenovo, but I have tried two USB sticks: Sandick and Verbatim.   I also read that I may need new bios software, but I doubt that because I just got the laptop, and I could not find windows 8 bios update under the y400 drivers. Thank you.

Hi, I own a Lenovo Y400 with a 16GB Sandisk U100 SSD pre-loaded with Windows 8 from Lenovo. Since last month I am told by the system that my hard disk drive may be faulty and I need to back up my data and prevent using the computer until my HDD is fixed. I also got a "Risky" status on my Intel Rapid Storage Technology software embedded into my Windows. I tried to suprress it a few times but it come out again eventually. Some details:- Starting about 3 weeks ago, the computer can't be turned off properly, after I turn off (hovering my mouse to the right hand side of the monitor and click shut off), it will just give me a black screen but my computer didn't shut off totally (the led on my keyboard is still on) and this happened quite a few times. Anyway since I had a desktop I usually work on desktop but when I'm travelling I will use the laptop.- Everytime it happened, I tried to "hard reset" the computer (pressing the power button for several seconds until the system shut off)- I tried to back up my data using the windows back up, it stuck at 97% for like 6 hours and I thought something was not right.- I also tried to create a system recovery disk but the "Please Wait" screen has been loading for like 2 hours without moving at all- I already manually back up ("Copy & Paste all my documents, musics, videos, etc" to my hdd) since the auto back up won't work.- I already call Lenovo Customer Service but they are notoriously slow and they inform me to back up my... Answer:Lenovo Y400 SSD Issues

hi idjaw,

Welcome to the Forums.

Try to download and install HD Tune and run an error scan on the HDD/SSD. This will verify if there's bad blocks on the drive. There's also a health tab where you can check if the drive's healthy or not.

If you get errors, you will need to contact lenovo for service as re-imaging the machine via the OneKey Recovery button will most likely produce freezing or "stucked on xx %" issue.

I hope you get the laptop repaired soon.

Bought an ideapad y400 in April 2013 b/c it was on sale. Fell in love with it right away -- fast, graphics are beautiful, can finally play Borderlands 2. Fast forward 3.5 months and the screen stops working. Everytime the computer goes to sleep or when I close the lid, the screen would stay black and won't turn on. I try restarting and still doesn't work. I call up technical support and they say to ship it back for repair. So I did. Yesterday, I received my laptop, the screen now works. The Repair Sheet said everything is ok. HOWEVER, everything is NOT ok!!! The entire right side of the laptop doesn't work --- the 2 USB ports, audio jack, microphone jack. NOTHING WORKS. I tried rebooting, system recovery, uninstalling drivers, but nothing works. Called up tech support again and they said to ship the laptop back. The hell with that! I told them if I'm shipping it back, then I don't want it back ever again. I'm done with Lenovo. He says that he's with tech support and is not authorized for returns. The sales team is not available b/c it's after hours, so I left my cellphone number with them and he says they'll get back to me in 3 business days. I'll give them 48 hours and then I'm contacting my credit card and I'm putting in a claim/dispute. Good riddance Lenovo! Now I know why there was such a huge sale for the Ideapad Y400 -- b/c it SUCKS!

Hi, I'm the user of Ideapad Y400 and I bought this kid about 4 month ago. Since this kid was delivered to me, the charger was not working straightly. What is the meaning of straightly is that, when I try to charge my laptop with battery is launched, it never work. I should plug in and unplug the charger about 20 minutes, then the charger works. I am the university student, therefore, I have lack of time to deal with this problem. However, I try to reach with the tech service on the phone, and the engineer said he have no idea, why this is happened. Therefore, I always charge my lab top at the library with library's charger.  I think my charger have some problem, however, the tech service through the phone never help me. This would be the last time to complain... I really want to solve this problem and use my kid freely. Please contact with me ASAP

Answer:The charger issue for Y400

hi daegong12345,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

If you're getting a "plugged in not charging" message when you check your battery status then your problem might be similar to this thread. Open Lenovo Energy Management and configure the battery to charge up to 100%.

Otherwise, If the library's AC adapter works flawlessly on your Lenovo Y400 and not the 90W or 120W charger that came with the unit is intermittently working then you need contact lenovo and request to change the AC adapter.

Hope this helps.

I've tested all the other FN + F-row shortcuts, and they all work fine; there are also no problems with my Wi-Fi. Thanks in advance.

Hello buyersremorse,

A few more details may be helpful to the volunteers here in making a diagnosis.
Have you tried another browser? If so how does that behave?
Have you run any anti-virus scans?

Are you able to download and run the following diagnostic tool? It won't fix anything, but will simply show a basic short report of what is installed.
* In order to prevent conflicts, you may need to disable your anti-virus/anti-spyware before downloading and running this.
Please go to HERE and download FLMini.zip Save it to your Desktop Some Browsers such as Chrome will save to your Downloads folder. If you see a warning or something similar from your anti-virus at any point: "FLMini.zip is not commonly downloaded and could be dangerous" (or is a Trojan)->> Select Keep Open the Downloads folder ->> Copy and paste FLMini.zip to your Desktop Rt. Click ->> Extract all ->> And extract it to your Desktop Open the FLMini Folder. Double Click FLMini.exe ->> As the program runs, a small window will open to let you know the progress of the scan, and when it is finished. The scan will take a few minutes. It may seem as if it is not doing anything. Please be patient. When the program is finished it will produce a log for you MiniReport.txt Copy and paste the contents of that log into your next reply on this forum.. MiniReport.txt can be found in the FLMini Folder.

Woke up today, sat at my desk, tried to power on laptop and it would not power up. Removed battery and ac adapter and all accessories (including CD drive in ultrabay). Held power button for one minute. Reattached ac adapter and tried to power on laptop. No change, tried battery by itself... No change. Tried attaching both battery and ac adapter, laptop still won't power on.There are no light indicators at all. No ac adaptor led light when plugged in. No led light indicating that the battery is dead when I hit power button (always witnessed in the past). I had an electrician check my entire house and wall jacks. I utilize surge protectors and replace them accordingly. Why? Because this will now be the FOURTH time my laptop will require hardware repair. Unbelievable, there are 5 other laptop devices used in my home (none of these are Lenovos), several smart phones, two smart TVs and ONLY this product fails. I stopped taking this laptop outside because of its insanely high failure rate. I chose the 14 inch model with the poor screen resolution BECAUSE I wanted a mobile device not a desktop replacement. It still arbitrarily stops working indefinitely. This laptop was last repaired in September from Sept 13 to October 3rd. That means I had used this laptop for one week before another hardware failure occurred. I am beyond frustrated. I'm trying to remain optimistic but I simply lost patiences. Question: Lenovo Y400 issues

When I power on the y400 its goes to the Lenovo loading screen and underneath the logo it says "preparing automatic repair". It stays like this for hours. I took it to Geek Squad and they said that my hard drive was fried. So I bought a new internal hard drive and replced it myself. Now this is what happens when I power on the y400.  It goes directly to a black screen with a blue box reading  "Default boot device missing or boot failed. Insert recovery media and hit any key. Then select 'boot manager' to choose a new boot device or to boot recovery media". When I select ok it goes to a white screen that says 'boot manager' at the top and it gives me the options of picking 1) EFI Network 0 for IPv4 (B8-88-E8-98-A9-3F) or 2) EFI Network 0 for IPv6 (B8-88-E8-98-A9-3F). It doesnt matter which one I select. After selecting either or, it comes to a blue box that says " EFI Network 0 for IPv4 (IPv6) boot failed".  ( I do have the Lenovo Recovery Dics 1 through 6) No idea how to use them. I appreciate any help!

Hello everyone,I have a problem. I recently made a trip overseas and tried to charge my laptop in the plane. The socket had (supposedly) adequate voltage and amperage levels for my charger and computer. It worked for about two seconds and then my computer turned off and stopped working. After returning home, I took the computer to a repairing center, since neither the airline nor the warranty covered that kind of damage. They told me that the motherboard was damaged and that I need a replacement. However, I am unable to find the model of the Y400 motherboard on manuals or the Internet. Does anybody here know and could tell me what the model is, please? I thank you all in advance.
