Laptop detects keyboard but keyboard dosen't work.

Question: Laptop detects keyboard but keyboard dosen't work.

So I have a Y570, replaced the thermal paste. After replacing it , the screw for the keyboard dosen't thighten up and is stuck spinning. Tried almost forever to spin that screw but it won't tighten up. I tried removing it but it won't come out too... Gave up then booted on my laptop. After booting it on, I noticed that my keyboard won't work. I checked the device manager if it can detect my keyboard and it says it does. Anyone have any idea how to fix this? Right before I replaced the thermal paste it was working just fine. Tried taking out that screw also but it won't just come off. Hardware problem or software?

Preferred Solution: Laptop detects keyboard but keyboard dosen't work.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey,

I am pretty desperate now as I recently got a new Lenovo z500 ideapad laptop, which i think its 9 months old only.

All of the sudden, one day the shift key started to automatically been pressed down.. as if its like its being 'possessed' in simple terms.. and it happened at random times

After much forums, some say hold shift key down for 10 secs or x amount of secs, disable sticky keys, filter keys, bounce keys, or even continue press shift keys continuously etc etc..

Did all those, disabled sticky keys, bounch keys, filter keys and now whenever i on my comp, the shift key will automatically be pressed down, so i have to hold the shift key for like 5-8secs to disable it, than it works fine and no more occurence.

However, a new problem occurs.. now certain keys on the laptop is not working like the right shift key.. when the right shift key is pressed down, none of the letters are being capital or none of the symbols are showing BUT the left shift key does the job..

Than, the left shift key could not caps the letter z, t, y, m, and a few more.. but it works prefectly fine with other keys.. Now i am pretty sure its not a keyboard malfunction because without pressing caps, all the keys are fine but only these certain keys wont be caps when the left shift key is pressed..

So i decided to use an external keyboard and everything works out fine.. right shift key is working, left shift key caps those letters which could not be cap... Read more

Answer:laptop keyboard does not work but works fine with usb keyboard

The fact that a USB keyboard works fine when your built in one doesn't, proves that it is the keyboard itself (or connectors) that is damaged/defective, otherwise, if it were a software problem, the external keyboard would do the same.

1 MONTH AGO, I BOUGHT A LAPTOP LENOVO Y700 8Y WITH WINDOWS,  BUT SOME KEYS DOESNT WORK, for example NEVER WORK THE KEY 4 OF THE NUMERIC KEYBOARD AND SOME OTHER KEYS LIKE DAMAGE, DELETE, DELETE, A, S, D BETWEEN OTHERS, BUT THIS KEYS WORKS SOMETIMES.I do not know if they are the drivers or indeed the physical keyboard is damaged, since I have tried with a usb keyboard and all the keys work. Sometimes the mouse also stops working TOO.

Hi, I have a Lenovo Flex 2 14 which came with a British keyboard but I noticed you can take off the keyboard and swap it out for another one - you can find backlit versions, or a version with a different layout. I got a keyboard for it with Japanese hiragana on it, but the laptop doesn't seem to recognise any of the extra keys this keyboard comes with which have key codes not used by other languages. These keys include: | -? \ ??????the ????, ???? and ???? toggleI would have assumed this was to do with the fact that these are keys from a 106/109 key layout as opposed to the standard 102 key, so I replaced the keyboard driver with Microsoft's 106/109 key keyboard driver, but that hasn't had any effect - it still can't see these keys being pressed. The ??/?? ?? key works because it uses the same key code as the tilde on other keyboards, but that's all. My hypothesis for why this might not be possible to fix is that the ribbon connection between the keyboard and the motherboard could only support 102-key layouts in Europe, and therefore the only way to be able to use these extra input conversion keys without a different motherboard altogether would be to use an external USB keyboard. I may have just made up what I said about the motherboard though, so does anyone know if there's a driver I can use to solve this problem and be able to use the extra keys? I can't just use a key mapper like KeyTweak ... Ok so I'm working with Windows 7.
My key board has compleatly stopped working. Even pressing esc. On the start up menu a work.
My usb keyboard is not working either, but the numbs lock light still comes on indicating it's getting power.
My on-screen keyboard will only bring up shortcuts in my chrome browser. The Ctrl and number lock keys are highlighted and won't let me turn them off.
I have removed my keys off the laptop and none of them seem to be stuck. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the keyboard drivers. Held power button for 15 seconds to reset the laptop. And in my settings turned off the sticky keys.
I'm at a loss now, any new ideas would be great, thanks in advance

Answer:My keyboard, on-screen keyboard, usb keyboard won't work

Hi Welcome to Windows Central! You are having trouble with your laptop KB. You are also having trouble with your USB KB and your on-screen KB!
The things that I would suggest is to try another USB KB. Try different USB ports. Replace the laptop KB. Replace the laptop!

Answer:X220 Keyboard partial malfunction (keyboard-combinations don't work)

Setup: I have an X220 on a docking station with a wireless Lenovo USB keyboard and mouse. The receiver is attached to the docking station. The system is running Windows 7 EnterpriseProblem:When Booting up the device today and reaching the ctrl+alt+del (windows login) -screen, the key-combination didn't work. Tried with the laptop keyboard and the wireless one. The mouse seemed to work on both. After a few reboots, the ctrl+alt+del worked and when windows started, it said the USB Input devices had their drivers installed. Now even though ctrl+alt+del works in the login screen, it doesn't do anything when logged in. Also The windows-key and alt+F4 have stopped working. On one try, several attempts of ctrl+alt+del at the wireless keyboard also froze the laptop-keyboard.This is really weird, since you can write with the keyboards just fine, the combinations just don't work. Well after the login screen anyway. And also that the issue is on both external and hardware-keyboards. Everything is up to date and I tried unplugging everything, but no solution there. Nothing special has been done since last use when everything worked fine. EDIT: Also checked the regional settings, everything ok there.EDIT: Fixed, seems there was something in the keyboard that made it think the Ctrl-key was being pressed continuosly. This happened even though the button in itself seemed to work without issues (going up and down as they do) so maybe it was some kind of a cont... Read more

Hi,

I have a user with a Tecra M2 whose keyboard is no longer functioning properly, 2 or 3 keys work (Enter, space, caps lock), the rest of them when pressed cause a very quiet "beep" noise to come from the laptop.

I assumed this keyboard was faulty - I attached a usb keyboard to the laptop, but this has exactly the same symptoms, they keys dont work and when pressed the beep noise comes from the laptop, no characters appear on screen.

The laptop boots to the Windows XP login screen fine.

Any ideas what has caused this, and what the solution would be?

Thanks

Answer:M2 Keyboard problem - attaching external keyboard doesn't work either

Hello,

Sounds to me like the keyboard controller on the motherboard has gone bad. Since it causes the defect on an external keyboard then your motherboard is bad. If it was only the keyboard then an external one would work fine. But all keyboard types connected to a portable are routed first through the Keyboard controller integrated on the motherboard, then the characters are displayed. When this goes bad no keyboard will work, not even an external one. And the only fix to this is replacing the motherboard. Hope this helps.

Hey all, I've recently (3 weeks ago orsomething) bought a new laptop, a Toshiba Satellite l670-143.
Windows 7 64bit
Intel? Core? i5-430M Processor
: 2.26 / 2.53 Turbo GHz
2nd level cache : 3 MB
4,096 (2,048 + 2,048) MB ram
ATI Mobility Radeon? HD 5650

But this last week ive been experiencing keyboard problems. The problem is not always present, but when its present it doesnt matter wether im gaming, browsing the internet or writing a document.
Im not 100% sure what the problem is, I've spent hours trying to figure it out and to fix it, but nothing seems to help. But when I press a P, I sometimes get ppp. Or when I press a P, it doesnt show up. This is with all keys. And especially when I'm typing fast. Also, when I hold the backspace button, it ''lags(for a split second)'' every 2 seconds orso. When the problem is not present, holding the backspace button is smooth.

I did loads of virusscans, and did all the registercleanups etc. I made sure that sticky keys and filterkeys are disabled. I checked all the drivers for updates. When i tried the http://keyliner.blogspot.com/2009/11/windows-7-slow-keyboard-response.html nr.1 fix, it did go away when I rebooted. but the next day the problem came back and when I redid it, (did what he said + delete the file and create it again) it didnt fix the problem. Perhaps it was just random luck, I dont know. I disabled the laptop battery to see if it went better, it didnt.
I'm not sure what else ive tried too..

Answer:Satellite L670-143 - Keyboard lags but external keyboard work

Hello

To be honest if an external keyboard works properly I think it?s a hardware malfunction and related to internal keyboard. I doubt it?s a virus or something else because the same error would happen on external keyboard as well.

Furthermore for keyboard there is no special driver, it?s a part of Windows so you can?t update the keyboard driver.

Now in your case I would contact nearest authorized service provider. Your notebook is only 3 weeks old so it?s under warranty. If you contact the ASP, they can check the notebook and if you need a new keyboard, the repair is for free. :)

If the traditional BIOS update is not available on the download page the only way to get it is to contact nearest authorized service provider. They have all versions.

But this keyboard and mouse issue is really strange. can you use it if you start operating system in ?safe mode??

I currently have an X60 and have never had a single issue.  However I was recently infected with a Trojan, and after removing it with a reputable program, the keyboard and trackpoint mouse have stopped working. When I get the windows login screen, the trackpoint works fine, but the second I press any key, both keyboard and mouse become totally frozen. I can still use a USB keyboard and mouse with no issue at, but that is the only way. Any ideas as to how I can get them back up and working? Clearly, they (at least the mouse) are not totally fried b/c it works fine before I touch the keyboard. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, JT

SOLVED!  I simply had to update the drivers in the device manager.  For some reason they were corrupt and it could not load them.  Simple fix, just took too much thought and digging to find solution.

Hello-

I recently purchased a Microsoft Wireless Desktop Elite set, hooked it up to the PS/2 ports for the mouse/keyboard. The mouse works fine, functions with the receiver fine and works like it should.

I haven't been able to get the keyboard to work. My PC recognizes that the old Compaq Wired Keyboard I had is still plugged in, even though I have the keyboard plug from the wireless keyboard plugged into the port as I should. I've tried removing the drivers from the old keyboard and rebooting, but each time I plug the wireless keyboard plug in, my PC keeps recognizing it as the old Compaq. I've also installed the MS intellimouse/intellikeyboard software that MS recommends on the MS website. I'm currently running Windows XP.

Any ideas as to what might be causing this? It's driving me nuts.

Thanks in advance-

A friend's granddaughter was fooling around on his computer, and he noticed she had gotten into the control panel. Subsequently, he realized the keyboard wouldn't work. The granddaughter used the 'visitor' logon to get into the computer, but she didn't have the administrator's password to be able to change anything in the control panel. My friend can still boot up to Windows using the 'guest' logon, but because of the non-working keyboard, he's not able to type in his password so that he could initiate some repairs. The keyboard works on his son's computer, so it is not deemed defective. I have software so that we can reset his password before Windows boots, but we will need to be able to use the keyboard to select the right options. Is there some alternate way to be able to either put in the password, or use the reset disc to be allow access to the RESTORE option? We did try to use another keyboard (USB) which Windows recognized, but we were still not able to use the keys. Thanks in advance for any and all input.

I have an HP G62-340US Notebook PC with Windows 7 Home Premium. AMD Athlon II P340 dual core processor 2.2 GHZ. 2 GB RAM, 64 bit operating system. About one year old.Three nights ago, I spilled about an ounce of beer onto the keyboard near the spacebar and touch pad. I grabbed a paper towel and wiped it off and continued to use the computer without a problem for a couple of hours. I left the computer on overnight and through the next day. That evening, my keyboard wouldn't work. I shutdown the computer, and windows installed some updates while it was shutting down. When I tried to power back up again, I got NOTHING. No LED light for the power supply, not a thing. The next night, last night. The computer was still dead. I tried several times to remove the battery, hold the power button down for 30 seconds, and re-insert the battery. No luck.Tonight was the same. Dead computer. Figuring I had nothing to lose, I tried to take the keyboard off. I took out all of the screws out of the laptop, pulled out the CD-RW, the Hard Drive and the RAM. There's some sort of connection with no external access directly under the center of the keyboard. It seemed like it would be a bad idea to try and pull it apart from the bottom of the laptop, so I put the whole laptop back together again. Then, I hit the power button, and couldn't believe it when the little blue light came on! I have been having problems lately with some of the keys on my laptop keyboard. Sometimes when I press some of the keys they won't work, and sometimes pressing a letter once will make it register twice in a Word document. The laptop is about 4 years old, and I know that you can't do anything really about a laptop KB since it's built in, but is there anything I could try to see if I can fix the problem? It doesn't happen all the time...maybe I just need to buy some KB cleaning supplies to try and get under the keys?

Thanks in advance..

Answer:Keys on laptop keyboard won't work?

I had a HP that had similar problems, and it was indeed a bad keyboard. Luckily for me it was still under warranty. For low tech cleaning, you might try some compressed air to blow out dust/hair etc around the keys. If it is a bad keyboard, you may be able to replace it yourself.

the bottom half of my laptop does not work.. im typing with an on screen keyboard and a plug in mouse but here is the story.. it was thundering out and it was pretty bad so then the lights flickered, shutting down my xbox (i was playing that) and my computer was STILL plugged in so i think it might have fried something or loose wires.. this all was on like 6/24/2010... still messed up today, so.. any one know something that can be done?? besides taking it to best buy? it was an christmas gift and i took it in 1 time before for, it had an active worm virus in it so it is in good condition and its the whole keyboard spared all the ports.

Answer:keyboard wont work for laptop

It does sound like the storm damaged it. If it is still under warranty then take it back immediately.

I just swapped a hard drive from a laptop with a busted screen to a laptop that works fine. Well, it did work fine until I activated Windows. The keyboard all of a sudden stopped working and the buttons below the touchpad won't work either.
I can't find any keyboard drivers for Windows 7 on Sony's website and the touchpad drivers didn't seem to work. A Windows update didn't work, either.

some of the keys wont work when i tap them on my laptop they just stop working now i have to use onscreen keyboard

Answer:how to get laptop keyboard keys to work

This could be a driver problem with your computer. If has been recently updated to W7, then make sure that you have all proper drivers for your keyboard. However, chances are that you fried your keyboard (spilling something or other such instances have been known to do this). Try contacting your Laptop manufacturer.

For the past two days I have not been able to use my keyboard on my U510 unless I plug in a USB Keyboard & also pushing & holding down ctrl+alt+del to type all of the characters I want. If this is not done only the Caps Lock, the Spacebar, Enter & the letter I works. Once I go through the USB keyboard setup I can take out the keyboard & use the keyboard on my laptop but my volume turns down on it's own. Does anyone know if there is a BIOS update I can put on a Flash Drive? The laptop came with Windows 8 but I went down to 7 then went up to Windows 10. If I were to try to go to the BIOS I get no response because of the keyboard not responding. Can someone please help me with this problem.

Answer:U510 Keyboard does not work unless a USB Keyboard is plugged in

Hi, Deemusic  -

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

You can also start by flushing out all static, remove battery and AC adaptor and hold down power button for about 15 seconds.

Also, confirm if on screen keyboard works without usb keyboard plugged in ?

Update us how it goes.

Hi all. I have already posted this once here. The topic had quite a few views and not a single reply. I'm giving this another try, as the problem persists and is not getting any better.

The keyboard on my Aurora m9700 is having some strange issues. I cannot figure if it is software or hardware related, either. At random intervals, the keyboard will cease function. But when I go into standby, then come out of standby the problem seems to be magically fixed! In fact, the problem just happened right after I finished typing the last sentence. I checked event manager, nothing changed. I had to go into standby and come out of it...

So please, is there anyone on here that can help me out? I have reformatted the computer since this started happening and nothing has changed, so I do not know what could possibly be causing this!

Answer:Weird keyboard laptop issue. Keyboard randomly stops functioning until I standby.

Just going to keep bumping this until I get a reply, or bet banned. Every thread has some form of reply...maybe I smell or something?

A couple days ago, my keyboard and touchpad mouse stopped working. I thought it was a hardware issue and ordered a replacement keyboard. As for the touchpad, I'm just using a wireless mouse. I replaced the keyboard a couple days later with the new one, and when I turned on my laptop, it works again, but when I put my laptop to sleep and wake it up, I hit enter, and then it stops working. I cannot type anything until I restart my computer. I figured it has to do something with the drivers, but I'm not too sure. Here is my computer specs:

Product: HP Pavilion dv9700
Model: dv9925nr
Windows 7 home premium 64bit

I've gone to the HP website to get the drivers, but they do not support windows 7 for my computer.

I really need help, I accidentally poured water on my laptop keyboard and now my keyboard is messed up, Many of the keys don't work, my backspace makes a hashtag, some keys write 3 keys. I just don't know what to do! As an added bonus, my mouse when plugged into the laptop flickers on and off!

I tried flipping it upside down and letting the water evaporate for about a day and that didn't fix anything, everywhere I check that's all it says. I can't buy a new laptop since my mom won't allow that, I can't buy a USB keyboard either, Any ideas or do I have to leave it upside down for longer?

My daughters laptop is a 2-1 so it can fold in half and be a tablet. I recently bought a monitor and mouse so she could use it more like a desktop but when I fold over the laptop into the tablet position, the keyboard stops working.

I had windows 8.1, but upgraded as it was supposed to have a tablet mode that you could toggle that would allow the keyboard to work. I upgraded and it worked for one night, but now the keyboard always stopped working when I put the laptop into the tablet position.
I hit the windows key +A and the tablet icon is greyed out, but no keyboard so I thought it was a laptop issue. I read that there was a toshiba exe file that controlled this functon, but deleting it didn't work either so I am back to thinking it might be something in 10?

Please help.

The 2-in-1s I've been privileged to look at appeared to have a mechanical switch to turn off the keyboard when it was folded into tablet mode, don't think there's anyway to bypass that without physically disabling it by taking the device apart, could end up destroying it.

Ever since I've upgraded my dad's laptop to Windows 10, the keyboard and touchpad stop working randomly, and would work only after I restart the computer. (logging off, switch user, standby mode doesn't resolve it.)
There is no pattern to it. Sometimes it would be ok for a few days, sometimes it would happen again after a few hours. I mostly do internet browsing on the laptop.

When the problem occurred:
- The keyboard AND the touchpad would both stop working at the same time.
- USB mouse still works. (I do not have an external keyboard to test)
- The lights on the keys themselves (eg caps lock, wifi) would still remain on if they're activated but cannot be toggled on/off as usual.
- The device manager still showed no problems with the mouse or keyboard.

Things I've tried:
- sfc /scannow
- disabled sticky keys
- used the generic drivers for keyboard and touchpad
- reinstalled the drivers for keyboard and touchpad
- updated to the latest synaptics driver
- made a new synaptics trackpad profile
- disabled touchpad when using the USB mouse

Laptop stats:
HP Pavillion dm1-4002AU
Windows 10 Home 64bit (upgraded from Win7 and then reset to a fresh state)
AMD Radeon HD 6230 Graphics
6GB RAM
Synaptics Driver Version: 19.0.12.95 06Jul15
Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad
Lenovo ThinkPad PS/2 keyboard

This is very exasperating. I would appreciate some help in stopping this problem permanently, thanks.

EDIT: The short version first: Everytime I try to run the HOTKEY drivers for my laptops backlit keyboard I get an error telling me that they have stopped working.
The long version:

If anyone could help me with this problem that has been annoying me for the past 7 months it would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Clevo P150sm laptop. Windows 7 Home SP1. It came with drivers (hotkey) that were supposed to control the backlit keyboard already installed(various colours, brightness etc). This didn't work out of the box. I then downloaded and installed some custom backlight keyboard software designed for the Clevo's. Link to it here:

Backlight Controller with LightFX | clevomods

This actually worked, the program ran fine and I was able to change the colours etc.. But it only lasted a week and then stopped working. I simply couldn't figure out what was wrong. I tried the latest Clevo drivers and a reinstall of the custom software and I got a Windows message saying this:

"Exception caught: the type initializer for #[email protected]@#@% threw an exception. Runtime terminating (0) true InnerException: System.InvalidOperationExeptopm: Cannot open OutLLog on machine.. Windows has not provided an error code--> System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception. The interface is unknown ---End of inner exception---"
and it goes on like that...
That was a few months ago. Recently I tried to install the latest hotkey drivers released by Clevo. They are actually for the Clevo P150sm-A t... Read more

Answer:Backlit keyboard drivers won't work for laptop

You mean that you can't install the drivers for your keyboard, i just have the same issue with my HP 2000, it turned out that the driver file that i have is out of date, and the program named DriverIdentifier has helped me, you can try it (http://www.driveridentifier.com) , when you register, remember to select to use as personal so that they will give you free access.

Answer:Updated laptop, now keyboard won't work. (G585)

hi VeeBee15,

Welcome to the Forums.

If you ran Windows Update and you get the issues on the keyboard can, you try to:
1. Disable Filter Keys (see this thread)
2. Boot into Safe Mode and see if the keyboard works. If the keyboard doesn't work, perform a System Restore in Safe Mode.
3. If System Restore doesn't work, perform a full factory restore by pressing the OneKey Recovery button.

Hope this helps

Hello everyone. I have one big problem. I reinstalled my 8.1 pro (legal copy, disk been fully formatted) and it was okay for few hours. Next time im starting the laptop, my keyboard and touchpad doesnt work. I plugged USB mouse and keyboard and it works just fine. I went to device manager and besides Standart PS/2 keyboard and mouse icons there was orange triangle meaning that i have problem with drivers. I searched drivers online, but unsuccsessily.. After few hours of trying to fix it, my Standart PS/2 Keyboard turned into Unknown device and now im completely lost. Adding photo of device manager, i hope someone will help me here.

Answer:8.1 pro laptop keyboard and touchpad doesnt work

Since we do not know the make and model of your laptop.
Should try the laptop manufacturer's website to see if you can find the drivers for this. Does look like there missing.

What does it tell you when you right click the ones with yellow exclamation points ?

You can right click and select update driver software, either search automatically or browse your computer, select signed driver from the list is shows you.

Within the last week my Sony Viao laptop keyboard started acting up. The dash key, delete key, home key, no. six key, and a few others just don't work anymore. More and more are not working.

I use it everyday, several years old. I do eat food over it occasionally. Tried cleaning under the keys. Didn't fix.

A virus (I had a recent virus attack so bad had to reformat hard drive; but keyboard worked immediately afterward).

Any guidance greatly appreciated. I'm afraid I'll soon lose all keyboard functioning and will be up the creek. I don't have a lot of money, can't just buy a new computer.

So as the title says, the keys on the top of my laptop (Under the F keys) don't work in the sense that they give a jumble of symbols/more than one number, rather than what it should:

So from left to right, finishing at the backspace, this is what i get (What you should normally get is on the left, and what i got is on the right)
` = `1
1 = `1
2 = Doesn't give any number, it just opens a new tab in the browser
3 = 3
4 = 54
5 = 54
6 = 67
7 = 67
8 = =8
9 = 9
0 = -0
- = -0
= = =8

With Shift
~ = ~!
! = ~!
@ = @
# = #
$ = %$
% = %$
^ = ^&
& = ^&
( = (
) = _)
- = _)
+ = +*

Sometimes it works alright, and other times this is what happens. Though, this is the longest period of time that it has been messed up for. Also, all the other keys work fine.

System Specs

Also, i haven't spilt anything really on there. I did spray my keyboard with some disinfectant a few times to clean it and stuff, but other than that, no copious amounts of liquid. Please help me!

I don't know how to connect my Casio Keyboard to my computer with a MIDI cable. I've mostly been using Mixcraft's music library, but I want to start something new with my new keyboard.

Can someone PLEASE tell me how I can connect my keyboard to my laptop via MIDI?

Keyboard & Mouse: Acer Desktop

Ever since I would say, the past upgrade for Windows 10, my mom's Acer desktop's keyboard has been really laggy. For example, when I go to wake it from sleep to unlock it, the keyboard's Number lock and Caps lock keys do not want to light up. It seems as if the keyboard doesn't want to respond in a timely manner along with the computer. The same goes for the wireless Logitech mouse.

Keyboard: Toshiba Laptop

The same as I mentioned above goes for the Toshiba Laptop that was originally mine, that I have given to my sister.

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Keyboard & Mouse: Acer Desktop - Keyboard: Toshiba Laptop

The Acer is in my 2nd set of Specs while the Toshiba is a Satellite C55-B5299.

Hey guys!

I recently got a Casio keyboard, with a new MIDI cable.

I'm a music artist and I'm totally new with this 'keyboard-to-computer-via-MIDI' stuff.

I don't know how to connect my Casio Keyboard to my computer with a MIDI cable. I've mostly been using Mixcraft's music library, but I want to start something new with my new keyboard.

Can someone PLEASE tell me how I can connect my keyboard to my laptop via MIDI?

I've looked at other forum posts and contacted a few music artists..........they had nothing.

Please help!

Thanks!

So I was using Windows 8 on my Samsung laptop, but a little while ago I decided to switch it to windows 7 home premium 64 bit since I didn't really like 8.. since then a lot of the build in keyboard functions have stopped working (understandably). Most of the F1-12 keys would control things like volume, screen brightness, wifi connection etc. I can live without using most of them since they are able to be changed elsewhere, but the one thing I can't figure out how to use is the keyboards backlight. it worked when the computer was running windows 8, so obviously it HAS the hardware, but I don't know if windows 7 recognizes that it's there. Any ideas how to fix

Answer:Laptop keyboard backlight won't work after switching to windows 7

Hello and welcome spirit some decent system specs would be helpful mate because we need to know what we are working with http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/180324-system-info-see-your-system-specs.html

Now this is similar to a problem that I had with my new Asus laptop that had 8 and I had to make changes in the BIOS for certain things to happen like booting 7 for example. So as I have already said the specs please before we can even make a start.

Have an old asus laptop that i use very little. I noticed that when i type something ... nothing shows up.

I open up google. I type keyboard letters into google... nothing shows up. However when i click the letter F... it would seem to click on the top right corner where the 3 horizontal lines are located right under the X. The google chrome settings.

I then use my touchpad or regular mouse. When i try to click on anything like picture i have or video etc or icons on my desktop.. it would open up the properties. Does anyone know how do i fix this issue? Basically i cannot type any letter anywhere.

Answer:Laptop Keyboard Doesn't Work Very Strange Issue

Basically anything i click on does this... unless i click on start menu and then click on the program. Thus if i click on say avast or a program on desktop, it shows the properties of it. If i click on program using start menu... it does show up.

I scanned using malwarebytes. It did mention something trojan.something but i removed it. But this is using malwarebytes free. I have avast as well but doesnt detect anything.

Its definitely not number lock. I tried this.

The other thing that was strange was after a while... suddenly the mouse and touchpad it did click. But then when i shut the lid of my computer down then opened it up... have same issue. So same problem.

The thing though is i did recently go to certain sites where they have passwords for adult sites... and used it to log in etc. Could this be the cause of it? Thus i used a login and password from someone who posted free username/pass for an adult site.

heres another strange thing. When i click on tab... it would display all the windows i have opened in like a ruler... then each time i press tab... it would go to each window.

I have a HP G62 notebook and running Windows 7 home premium. In the last few days, if I walk away from the computer for a few minutes, the screen goes blue (I assume into sleep or hibernate mode) and usually I can just move the mouse or press a key and the icons come back up but now, the keyboard and mouse do not work at that point and I have to do a hard reboot. Also, I noticed that when double clicking icons or webpages, the computer sometimes does not respond at all. Any ideas of what could be happening?

Hi,

I have an Asus R510D laptop, which originally came w/ Windows 8 installed. I downgraded to Windows 7, and the very first time I booted, everything was fine. Ever since then, after boot, at the login screen, the keyboard does not allow me to type my password. However, I am able to use the function keys, which is the workaround I've found for this issue.

After booting and reaching the login screen, I must put the keyboard to sleep, then awaken it, for the keyboard to function properly. I've tried updating the driver, but it doesn't solve the issue. I was wondering if anyone had come across an issue like this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

You did mean R510DP right? That laptop does not support Win 7. Have you tried installing the Win 8 drivers in Compatibility Mode

Answer:laptop model is G480 letter x on keyboard does NOT work

hi danman1234,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

First Try booting the system in SafeMode.
   >Start hitting F8 when you power up the system, It will then Give you the option for safemode
Select Safemode then Try the keyboard,

Under safe mode still does not work

    > Diver for the Keyboard is provided by the Windows 7
              Still try uninstalling and reinstalling it by;
Opening Device manager >  under Keyboard category and uninstall the keyboard entry then restart the system
         If still the same problem,
I would consider it as a hardware issue and Keyboard has to be checked/serviced.

Yu can either call Lenovo Technical Support for Hardware service assistance or Call the reseller if the unit is still Brand New

Best Regards
Solid Cruver

I want to remove the monitor, basically gut it, and turn the keyboard and trackpad of my laptop into a keyboard with built-in mouse for my desktop. It's an old laptop that I was thinking about throwing away anyway, so I might as well turn it into something useful.

look at attachment.

I want be able to connect that to my desktop with USB and be able to use it as both keyboard and mouse (have both the keyboard and trackpad work)

My desktop is right next to my bed, so I sometimes swing the monitor around and put the keyboard and mouse on the bed. But it's damn hard to use a mouse when you have bedsheets and blankets and other stuff that's soft as a surface.

Also, I can't have any compatibility problems, it needs to work with all 3 systems in my house that I may want to connect it to. Mac OS, Windows XP/Vista, and Linux (Ubuntu and Fedora)

Answer:I want to turn my laptop keyboard and trackpad into an all-in-one keyboard and mouse

would anyone happen to know, and can give me a step-by-step?

I have a Dell M1330 Laptop that has served me quite well for several years. I just replaced the keyboard the other day and everything is working fine, except that the new keyboard has a slightly different layout than the old keyboard did. For example, with the new keyboard all the F1, F2, F3, etc.. keys have function secondaries on them like multimedia, brightness, antennae toggle, and so on. My old keyboard didnt have most of these and so when I attempt to use them on the new keyboard they simply do not work. In fact when I use function keys as if I still had my old keyboard installed the functions work, which means it is the software interpretation of the keys that I need to change. Does anybody know how I can fix this so that the keys of the new keyboard and functions match what the keys actually say?

Another thing to add is that some of the new function keys on the new laptop such as antennae toggle were not on my last keyboard at all because they are softkeys on the case of my computer, and I am not sure a function like that would be able to be added to the keyboard mapping at all, but I'm not sure.

Also, I would prefer to not install third party software to accomplish this, even if it means I need to delve into the registry manually. Can anybody help??

Hi, I do a lot of typing at night time and the click of my keyoard's keys can be quite noticeable when there is pure silence. I have a Logitech K520 which isn't so loud but I would really love a keyboard that has the same type of keys as my Samsung laptop which are practically silent. Most laptops I've tried have similar keyboards in that the key doesn't travel far at all and there is no 'clicky' sounds either.

I have no idea what I would search for as I don't know what the style of keyboard is called. There are various names on the market, 'soft touch', 'quiet touch', 'low profile' etc etc but nothing that specifically identifies a laptop style.

I would just like a wireless laptop keyboard basically, even if it's the same size as a laptop keyboard but preferrably full sized.

Thanks very much for any advice

My son has a Dell Inspiron running Windows Vista. His computer was fine and he made no changes to it whatsoever. He came to me very upset claiming that his keyboard was not working properly.
I took a look at it and sure enough, it will not type the following letters:c,h,l,t, ***U,v. Since his password contained the letter "L," once he logged out he was no longer able to log back in.
He asked me to reinstall his operating system. I have done so, except now I'm on the screen where it asks me to type a username and password - and guess what? It still won't type those letters! I even tried the virtual keyboard - it will not type those letters using it either. However, when you press the "U" key (whether on the keyboard or the virutal keyboard) a window pops up titled: Ease of Access, and it gives me the option of hearing text onscreen, making items larger, etc.
I cannot even begin to imagine how to fix this. Please, if any of you know what to do, help me please??

Answer:Both laptop keyboard and virtual keyboard will not type certain letters

OMG! I have to add this additional information:
I just accidentally pressed the "shift" key when I tried to type an "L." It typed the "L!!" But it still will not type a lower case "L." When I press the "Caps Lock" key, it has no effect - it still will not type the letter L. This is the case with all of the above noted letters. All of them will type only if I press the "shift" key.

I had a problem with my laptop which is certain key on my keyboard is not functioning. The weird is, it happened without a reason. because after I shutdown doing my work when I turn it on again, I discovered my "s", "d", "g", "h", "\", "m", " left shift", "caps lock" and "~" key did not work at all. I try taking the key off, cleaning underneath, but nothing seems to be working. After that I try to use usb keyboard and it seems the key can be entered. So I thought my hardware is the problem. than I replace into the new one, but still having the same problem. I already waste my money buying new keyboard. Does any one happen to know what sort of problem this is and how I would go about fixing it? Is it related to the registry. My laptop is Acer aspire 4740G, ram 4GB, processor i3 2.4GHz. I hope someone can help me to solve this problem.
