I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: How many Partitions has a new Lenovo z580 Windows 8

HiWelcome the forumsThe reason for these many partitions is that win 8 pre-loaded systems have gpt partition. 3 are created by default for windows 8 . Then 1 recovery partition is okr backup and other is okr startup. The rest are gpt disks.Regards

Hello, Recently I bought Lenovo IdeaPad z580 (model 20135), I really like it, but I have problem with it's partitions,  it come with 4 partitions    - 200 MB Windows boot.    - 420 GB Windows 7 OS.    - 30 GB Derives.    - 20G Rescue System. All of them are "primary" partitions, how I can make logical partitions without delete any of them? I really tried to search and read many posts in forum, but I can't get any satisfactory answer. Thanks In advance :-)

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad z580 with 4 primary partitions!

Hi and welcome to the communityIf you didnt play with the partitions and these are the factory default partitions then theWindows boot and windows 7 os partitions are system partition. The 30 gb partition is the logical drive/partition and20gb partition is the oem partition.Maybe a snapshot of the disk management would tell us better. So please post the snashot.

As the title says, just wondered if theres any lenovo software the works with the z580 ? lenovo companion on windows 8 offers some stuff but its listed as u series ect ? cheers for replys inadvance, mike

Answer:(z580) Just wondered what lenovo software will work with the z580 ?

hi mikee77,

The Lenovo Z580 comes with these lenovo pre-installed apps:

Lenovo OneKey RecoveryLenovo OneKey TheaterLenovo Cloud Storage by SugarSyncLenovo Energy ManagementLenovo Companion

The Lenovo Companion is like an app store the features:

Third-Party Apps and Ads
Lenovo products, Tutorials, Application showcases, Lenovo accessories information, Lenovo Cloud, and a link to Lenovo blogs and articles

Most apps listed on the Lenovo Companion will work on the Z580 as long as it meets the system requirements (i.e. If an app is made only for Touchscreen models, then you will need to get the non-touchscreen version or if there's a Utility app that senses temperature on a specific model, make sure Z580 is on the supported models).

Click here for more information on the preloaded softwares on the Z580 and click here for more information on the Lenovo Companion.

Hope this helps.

I have a Lenovo Z580 that came pre-installed with Windows 7.  I would like to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1 without destroying any of the partitions so that if I do not like Windows 8.1 I can use the recovery feature to reinstall Windows 7 and all original drivers.  I apologize if this has been addressed elsewhere in the forums.   I do understand that there is not a direct path to upgrade from Windows 7 to 8.1.  You have to upgrade to Windows 8 first.  However, I have never been a fan of OS upgrades.  I intend on doing a fresh 8.1 install.  My data is backed up.

Answer:Lenovo Z580 Upgrading From Windows 7 to 8.1

hi wwhsgrad2002,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

If you are planning to upgrade from Windows 7 and thinking about having a backup that would let you go back to WIndows 7 anytime,

If I were in your post, Since I still have Windows 7 I can use the One key Recovery 7 which still has the Create Recovery Disc option.

I would create a set of Recovery Disc then proceed with the upgrade,
It is hard to say that the recovery Option built to the hard drive may or may not have an issue after OS upgrades.

So while in Windows 7, Create you Windows 7 Recovery Disc then proceed with your upgrades.

Worked great for almost two years not it simply doesn't.It's the Broadcom 802.11 WiFi adapter... It disappears. I tried removing it and restarting, doesn't work. He'll I can't do that always because it simply isn't there at times and when it is it doesn't connect to the internet. If I try the problem resolving thing when it doesn't work it simply makes it disappears and tells me to connect a cable...I also tried to use an external WiFi adapter but it simply rejected it.If you need anymore information just tell me because I really have exhausted my "Computing" knowledge.

Answer:what is best windows for lenovo ideapad z580 ?

Hi jimrako,

This is really a tricky question because it depends on your hardware.

The best way I can think of answering this is by providing you the requirements for each then you can check against your requirements:

Windows 10:

RAM:
1 gigabyte (GB) for 32-bit or 2 GB for 64-bit
Hard disk space:
16 GB for 32-bit OS 20 GB for 64-bit OS

Graphics card:
DirectX 9 or later with WDDM 1.0 driver
Display:
800x600
Cons: a bit of a learning curve as it changes a lot

Windows 8

Processor: 1 GHz or faster processor
Memory(RAM): 1 GB RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
Hard Disk: 16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
Graphics: DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver
Cons: Without Touch it is not intuitive

Windows 7

Processor: 1 GHz or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
Memory(RAM): 1 GB of RAM (32-bit)/2 GB of RAM (64-bit)
Hard Disk: 16 GB of available disk space (32-bit)/20 GB (64-bit)
Graphics: DirectX 9 graphics device with Windows Display Driver Model 1.0 or higher driver
Cons: None really, it is awesome

Windows XP

Processor: 233 MHz CPU
Memory(RAM): 64 MB of RAM (may limit performance and some features)
Hard Disk: 1.5 GB of available hard disk space
Graphics: Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher-resolution video adapter and monitor
Cons: No longer supported by Microsoft

Again, this is my opinion, without a touch sc... Read more

Hello I have purchased new Laptop z580.It cames with Windows 8..I want to install Windows 7. But unable to install it... I have set Admin Password and then disable Secure Boot.and in a Boot Menu I have set type to Legacy..from UEFI somethingThen I have again one more Option Like Boot Prioritty : in which UEFI Support and Legacy Support Which I have to choose. When I select Legacy Support in Both then try to install Windows 7. but I am getting error like Unable to install Windows on selected Partition.  "windows cannot be installed on this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style."  Can anyone suggest right steps to do that.? I have taken recovery of Windows 8 to USB. and I don't want to temper with the Recovery..How to install Windows 7 into Lenovo Z580?

Answer:lenovo Z580 install windows 7

Hello and welcome,

You are probably getting that message because you are running the install in legacy mode but the the HDD is GPT partitioned.

You could boot in UEFI mode (not secure boot) and run the install.

You can run the install as you are in legacy mode but drop to DISKPART and convert the drive to MBR. It might also be sufficient to just select the advanced partitioning options and remove all the partitions.

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_install/windows-cannot-be-install...

Either way you'll lose the on-disk recovery options.  Don't lose that USB drive.

Answer:Disk Partitions z580 Urgent

Did you make a recovery usb? When I resized my partitions on my windows 8 preinstalled system, restoring original partition sizes did not allow for OKR to be fixed. When loading into okr it would hang with a bunch of vertical strips on screen. I can't help you on the original partition sizes in case you want to try and see if it works. I have a y580 and I can't promise you its the same. It has 6 partitions. Using your numbering I have identical partitions to match 1,2,3,6, and 7 with the rest allocated in my c drive. Also, if you use the recovery usb, back up your D drive manually, it will be erased. Using the recovery usb to reset my system did restore OKR though.

Hi there guys, got a relatively new z580 with windows 8 - only a few months old. Ever since the beginning i had trouble with the so called "intelligent" touchpad - it used to crash every now and then and a simple restart would do the trick. I have tried a lot of drivers and a lot of updates, but none seemed to resolve the issue. Nowadays even restarting the laptop does not help - touchpad software does not even strart.Would be great if someone could give me a tip,if something has worked for you.

Has anyone who's been experiencing networking issues on 8.1 managed to fix them yet? I have a lenovo z580 that came preinstalled with windows 8I could use wired or wireless connection perfectly on win 8. I then upgraded to 8.1, had so many networking issues I downgraded to win 7. On win 7 it worked perfectly again (used it for 8 months with no issue). Dual boot win 7 alongside various distros of linux, after some issues with drivers at the beginning linux also works perfectly. Decided to give windows 8 another go yesterday. Clean installed windows 8 (hard drive reformatted), networking is working perfectly. Updated to 8.1 and it has limited connectivity on wifi immediately, installing the latest drivers from lenovo website, does NOT fix the issue, (had to use hp drivers to get any internet connection at all.) So with the new wireless drivers it only half works, I can use the internet but I get constant time-outs and disconnects on any website (again everything worked perfectly on win8 and win7), even typing this I'm getting errors as the page updates. If I ping my own router you will get succesful replys with occasional timeouts (between 10% and 20% of packets are lost) I have the exact same problem when using a wired connection. I can see from other forum topics this issue is affecting many lenovo products, and many from other manufacturers as well. Does anyone have a solution? Do Lenovo have a solution? EDIT&n... Read more

I've waited a long time before installing Win 10 on my IdeaPad Z580, but was finally persuaded to try it out with a complete clean install. Thankfully, after a few teething troubles, it now works fine, except for one thing - the camera. I can't find a driver for EasyCam with Win 10 on the Lenovo site, so before I commit to buying a separate camera I would like to ask if anyone has any suggestions for solving this problem so I can use Skype properly. I've tried everything suggested on the Microsoft Win 10 site without succcess. Many thanks in anticipation!

Answer:Questions regarding z580's partitions (FreeDos version)

hi Acid_Rain,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Most computers that are sold without an OS shouldn't have a LENOVO_PART on them as it should just be the  /dev/sda2 created by FreeDos. Try to check if you have a Windows sticker on the front or back part of the unit.

If you have a Windows Sticker, try to:
1. Press the One Key Recovery button to restore the original OS.
2. Create a Gparted Live CD or USB and set the LENOVO_PART as active and restart the PC to boot from the recovery drive.

If the recovery attempt fails, you can just wipe all partitions and install a fresh copy of Windows on an unallocated or NTFS formatted drive.

Hope this helps.

I tried to recover my PC to factory settings using the CD's that I had created with OneTouch Recovery software. However the recovery failed - perhaps due to scratches in the disk.  My laptop came with Windows 7 Home Basic (64 bit). A question that I have is whether there is a way to get a copy of the OS (I have the serial key with me on a sticker pasted under the laptop). I would really appreciate any help. Thank you.

Answer:WIndows 7 Home Basic download for Lenovo z580

hi Lamb_1803,

Welcome to the Forums.

As an alternative to the Recovery Discs that you created, have you tried pressing the OneKey Recovery button to restore the system?

If that doesn't work, your options are:
1. Call lenovo to obtain a copy of the recovery disc (recommended)
2. Create a Windows 7 Universal Installation Disc and use it to install Win7 Home Basic.

In an event that the disc is still not being read (possibly due to a defective ODD lens), consider creating a Bootable Windows 7 Installation USB Flash Drive to install the OS.

Hi all, I am having intermittent problems with my internet connection through Wi-Fi since a windows 10 update around December 2016. My difficulty is that it seems totally sporadic with no pattern. One day I could work on my laptop for hours with no problems, but then last night yet again in a 1 hour session I had about 3 drop outs where I get the ?Connected, No Internet? message in the Wi-Fi window. So my Wi-Fi is still connected, but websites fail to load etc. In order to remedy the problem i have to disconnect from the wifi signal and connect again. I have tried many things to solve the problem with no luck. Contacted ISP as my problems seemed to start when I moved to fibre optic broadband. But they sent me a whole new router, this did not solve the problem. Also, I don?t seem to have a problem with Wi-Fi on any other device in my house. My router can transmit 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz so I split them out to their own SSIDs as the Z580 cannot receive 5Ghz. This slightly improved things but I still get the drop outs.I tried a clean install of Windows 10 and wiped my laptop. I thought the problem was solved by this as I didn?t get any drop outs for a week or so. But sure enough over the past couple of days the random drop outs have started again.Don?t really know what else to try, quite frustrating! Can anyone suggest any steps?

Hi, i Have recently updated my Ideapad Z580 to windows 8. While using the power management application i came to know it misses out the modes as it was in Windows 7. Its does not even shows up the visual display when you press the Thermal management key.  I have to go to the hidden icon tab to select the Energy management, wherein there are options which i cannot understand what are they use for like Intelligent power saver. The options provided are very different from the ones provided in the Windows 7 version. Also, the function keys & other keypad layout got changed when i upgraded to Windows 8. Like the function for turning the Wi-Fi & bluetooth in windows 7 got changed. To write special character (@) changed. its now typing (") when upgraded to windows 8. Function key feature (Fn+F4) not working in windows 8. Can anyone tell me is the windows 8 Energy management application better than the windows 7 one or viceversa. if not, is lenovo trying to upgrade the features in the windows 8 version of energy management application & other applications like in the windows 7 ones.   Thank you.

Hey guys, I have seen a lot of members in this forum having trouble to get wifi and bluetooth working in windows 8. I found a solution to make everything work smoothly. Using windows 7 version of energy management and crap is not at all required. Just follow these steps. Before you begin installing windows, download all latest drivers from lenovo US site. Download touchpad and onekey theatre drivers from lenovo china site. Now, switch ON both wifi and bluetooth. If you keep them switched off, windows 8 will never recorgnise the presence of your bluetooth chip. Do not use windows 8 pro volume licence ISO. Instead use windows 8 pro ISO, which you downloaded from win 8 upgrade assistant (assuming you chose digital download option). This ISO has WiFi drivers needed for Z580(broadcom chip). Perform a clean install, not upgrade. Now install all the drivers, you don't have to restart for every driver install. Restart once after everything is installed. Now, you may face WiFi limited connectivity issue. Just head over to Wireless adapter properties and rollback driver. That wil solve limited connectivity problem. Done. Now enjoy windows 8.  One thing I failed to solve is, the battery meter in windows 8 does not show how many hours of battery is left. If anyone knows a fix to this, please let me know.

As you can guess, during clean windows 8 install recovery partitions were deleted and Z580 doesnt boot.  BESIDES sending the laptop back to Lenovo which i last option i have. Is there anyway i can re-install the original partitions and data by placing the hard drive into another laptop and using the working Windows 8 OS to create partitions .. etc .. I know this is all over the forums but haven't found a solution post. Please re-direct me if there is an answer or reply here. Thanks in advance!

Answer:Recovery Partitions all deleted. How to re-install using another laptop? Z580

Hi RikeshPunja,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to inform you that as the clean installation is done while installing Windows 8 OS (Operating System) in Z580 Laptop the partition can be re-created if and only if recovery media is created before formatting the computer and if restored using the same recovery media, as there is no recovery media created, changing the Hard drive and installing will not work as expected.

According to the Lenovo Manual, I had tried the following steps for installing the Lenovo official Windows 8 recovery disks that I purchased from the Lenovo Recovery Support: 1.  Insert Disk #1 into E:/ drive2.  Restart my PC3.  Shut down my PC completely4.  Press the small Novo button right beside the Power On button5.  Select "BIOS Setup" option, then press "Enter" I was expect to see 2 options, "Legacy" & "UEFI", but they did not appear on my screen, instead, after pressing "Enter", my screen was redirected to the home screen. Any idea on how to go to the "UEFI" & "Legacy" from the BIOS Setup? Thanks!

Lenovo Ideapad z580 Win10 64 I updated the bios with the private update (I know now that I should have used the public update) Then it showed this menu:http://i.imgur.com/kZaO2tf.jpg Whenever I selected HDD, the screen would go black for a couple of seconds and return to this menu. I fixed it by going into BIOS and changing bootmode from UEFI to Legacy. it booted but now everything is slow. It takes 5 mins to boot up and a further 15 minutes to reach usable speeds (I only have 4 startup programs). I tried changing it back to UEFI and it gives me the same problem as shown in the picture. I tried installing the public update, but it says that I cannot update as the current bios version is the same or newer. I went into BIOS and enabled BIOS back flash, and now when I try to start the public update, it just crashes. I also cannot access the start menu (this problem may be seperate and unrelated) I have backed up files and am prepared to do a clean reinstall of Win10, but I feel this won't work as it's a BIOS issue. The computer is unusably slow: what should I do? Thanks

Hi I'm trying to get the hands free mode working in the food app on windows 8.1 It was working at some point but I removed permissions across the board and even disabled my webcam (in a mild fit of paranoia). Anyway I've re-enabled the webcam And the camera app works perfectly fine,I opened the food app and allowed it permission to access the camera and it still won't pick up the camera in handsfree mode. All that happens is that the GUI changes but the camera doesn't switch on (judging by the light) and motion doesn't work. Oh and it says hands free mode is off. What's up? How can it enter the GUI and not be in hands free mode?

Thanks

Hello NikosGr, Windows 8 is still a new Operating System, therefore glitches still need to be worked out in future updates. Make sure to go to Lenovo's support website and see if there are any drivers for those devices for Windows 8. Try the Windows 7 drivers too as some of those will work with Windows 8. As for the Broadcom card being slow, they are decent cards, but not the best. I've had issues with mine when I first got my laptop. Hope that helps.

So  my Laptop is a Lenovo Z580.. Today it had low charge in the battery.. So I connected the charger but the cable connected to the power adapter was somehow loose.. So the laptop shut down because there was no battery.. But then when it was at the starting windows screen where 4 lights of windows 7 come together and form 4 rectangles(windows symbol).. Anyways it crashes only when the 2 lights appear.. And then tells to either start windows normally or to use STartup Repair... Anyways I have faced this problem quite a few times in the past.. At that time when this error came I went to startup repair then I selected system restore and then selected a restore point... And VOILA.. The problem was no more ....But this time when I went to system restore ... I saw there were no restore points.. I remember it quite well that before 3 or 4 days only I made a new restore point.,... Guys plz help me..

hi sapsm9,

According to this pdf data sheet, the Lenovo Z580 that comes with a Windows 7 is a Home Premium edition. If this is what you mean, you can try to do a repair install (see this guide)

Alternatively, if you don't have important data on the machine, consider pressing the OneKey Recovery button to restore the unit from factory settings.

Hope this helps

Lenovo Masters: Good day to you all. I would like to ask how can I install WinXP in my S10 (no DVD drive)?  First, I want to share that I committed the mistake of using it without any anti-virus software installed.  As a result, it bugged down.  Now in my attempt to reformat it and make it as fresh as day one, I followed the steps on how to make a bootable USB drive.  I was not aware that this unit is only compatible with WinXP (I tried to upgrade to Win7).  And in the process, I deleted both partitions of the HDD.. Now I'm receiving the message "windows was not able to detect a hard drive.. blah.. blah.." dead end for me.. Can anyone grant me his/her generosity and enlighten me on what to do? Badly need help.. I wish to do a clean install of Windows 7 on my Lenovo 3000 N500 laptop purchased in 2008 and running Vista Home Premium.
I have already managed to do a clean install on my desktop (HP machine) by loading from the WINDOWS 7 disk. I chose language etc and when asked where to install Windows, went into 'Drive options Advanced'. I deleted the 'system' partition S (which I presumed had Vista system info on it) and my C partition (which was temporarily named Disk 0) and I installed Windows 7 - no problems throughout and all running well and I now have one C drive.
Is it OK to proceed with the same method on the laptop with the Q and S partitions and delete them? Surely Windows 7 will have it's own back up and restore systems?
About the drives on the Lenovo: an S drive named SERVICEV003 and a Q drive named LENOVO (as well as a C drive).
When I select to delete the S drive I get a message to say that 'Windows uses this partition to reboot the system.......do not make changes.....' The drive contains folders named PREBOOT RECOVERY SWshare SWwork WINDOWS RECOV.wim and they appear to contain drivers and system files. The whole folder has 685 Mb free of 1.46Gb
The Q drive (LENOVO) contains a folder called SWTools and the whole folder has 3.81Gb free of 9.76Gb.
The hard drive C (SW_RELOAD) has 117Gb free of 221Gb and I am keen to preserve space.
Any advice will be welcome - I am savvy enough to do most tasks but I doubt if I would be abl... Read more

Answer:Clean install Windows 7 (Vista before) on Lenovo - can I delete Q and S partitions?

Re: Clean install Windows 7 (Vista before) on Lenovo - can I delete Q and S partition

Both the S and Q drives appear to be Lenovo recovery partitions to help reload the original factory Vista install. They are useful in an emergency if you had to get the laptop up and running since they will get you back to a fully licensed version of Vista.

Is your Win7 disc a retail copy? Do you have a license for more than one machine? That is really what the question is. If you know your Win7 installation will validate correctly because you have purchased a license for each machine and that you will never need to go back to Vista then you can delete those two partitions. Win7 does not automatically backup anything so you will have to design your own backup scheme or be comfortable using your Win7 disc to attempt repairs or reinstall Win7.

I, personally, would not delete the partitions. I would install Win7 and run it for a month or so to make sure everything is to my liking. If everything is good then I would consider deleting those partitions and using the space for data files or using Disk Management to expand the Win7 partition into the space previously used by them.

Feel free to ask any questions or wait for other opinions.

Hi everyone, I have a few questions - I have a Yoga 2 Pro: 1. I created a separate partition for my documents on the hard drive. If I use Lenovo OneKey Recovery will that destroy the partition? 2. Following Question 1, will the OneKey Recovery run successfully given the existence of said partition? 3. I assume that the OneKey Recovery image on the hard drive provided by Lenovo includes all their software (OneKey Recovery, Energy Manager, EasyCamera, etc). If I use the Windows 8 Reset feature will that software still be installed or will it be a completely clean OS - as if, for example, I were to acquire a windows 8 ISO and use that for installation? 4. Where the heck is my Windows 8 Product Key? Thanks in advance, - ice

By doing so, you lose support to their OKR software and you will need to pay them $ in the event that you need to reformat your computer to factory (using their disks). The product key comes pre-embedded in the Windows install. Unless you use a key extractor on your current install, you may lose your key for good since I doubt your OKR system works anymore.

Can anyone make sense of these partitions? I can't understand why there are 2 different recovery partitions, and an OEM partition...  Ideally what I want is a recovery disk to be able to create, but unfortunately I cannot do such with One Key Recovery 8... I want to pull off whatever is needed off one of these partitions in order to make an iso for it, and make it bootable. I have ISOBuster which seems to be able to do the job. But my question is, let's say I want to completely wipe my HDD, having the correct recovery partition burned to disk, will it recreate all of these extra OEM and Recovery partitions too? Link to image Much help would be appreciated. These days most laptops come with the Operating system restore discs on a partition in the hard drive. The ability to restore your computer to the factory settings can be done with the click of a button using some proprietary software from the vendor. This can be annoying to some people (like me) since the partition takes up around 30GB of space and doesn't really have much data in it. There might also be some other partitions that aid in the restore process but otherwise make it very difficult to re-partition the hard drive to the user's specifications.WHAT DOES THIS TUTORIAL DO?- It gives you a walkthrough of how to install a fresh copy of windows 7 onto a laptop and activate it using the OEM Key.- Delete hidden partitions and reformat the computer.- Create an image of your Hard drive with factory settings (along with the hidden OEM partition)- Please note that this process will completely remove (or destroy if you prefer) the manufacturer's restore process built into your computer as it involves a complete reformat of your hard drive. Please use this only if you are savvy enough. If anything goes wrong you will have to re-image the drive using a HDD image.STEP 1: BEFORE INSTALLATION1. Backup driver files to external drive.2. Burn Windows 7 ISO to disc. You can download your Windows 7 ISO from http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/11/10/windows-7-iso-x86-and-x64-official-direct-download-links-ul... .Please download the version that came with your computer or this process will n... After i receiving the Disc, I called in Lenovo, this time, they said the motherboard had been conflicted, need a new motherboard to replace it. and it cose about $200.00 . Do they know the brand new computer jsut cost $400?Of course, I did not purchase the motherboard, because I do not what is after.May be another part of it and cost another $100-200. This will be my last lBM/lenovo.After 15 years of Loyalty,  I can feel the quality of service and product had been gone. They are not a brand name company any more,

Hi sapsm9,

Thanks for posting!

Your system might be triggering the Intel Turbo Boost Causing you system to heat up.

This is how you'll get to the settings

 Open Control Panel
               / Hardware and Sound
                    / Power Option
/ On you selected Power Plan Click on the Change plan Settings
Now click on Advanced Power Settings and look for this option and set both AC and On Battery to 99 %

Try Changing the Maximum processor state to
    On Battery:  99%
    Plugged in:   99%
Hit Apply and hit OK

This will halt the Intel Turbo boost from kicking in and over heating that's possibly throttling down the GPU/CPU performance.

Let us know you findings.

Regards

Hi there, I have been led here because of a few issues my dad is having with his new Lenovo Z580.  It's a similar story, guy in his 50s gets a new laptop, has windows 8 and he almost throws it out the window, and so we have a genuine windows 7 license so I eventually get that on there. Everything seems to be ok apart from 2 things.  1) The Bluetooth wont work. He has a Bluetooth mouse but it will not connect. Any ideas? I realize that the UK drivers site is absolutely atrocious, I has to go to the Chinese site just to get the WIFI working!  2) Office will not install. This is strange one. I have genuine licenses for both 2007 and 2010. I started with 2007, its what he's used to. It goes through the whole install setup without a hiccup. Afterwards, I'll click on any of the office suite programs, and it will say "installing software" followed by "software installation failed" or something along those lines. Same with 2010. I have no idea what is causing this, and so all advice is much appreciated.  Sincerest apologies if this has been posted before.  Thanks in advance.  Jamie.

I brought a Z580 (M81K8UK) last year september brand new and have used it without issues since. This morning I turned it off before I went to sleep at 4am. Woke up this morning, pressed the power button and nothing. Laptop doesn't turn on or give any indication of anything. Put the battery in, pressed the button, still nothing. Plugged it in with the battery and the battery light comes on and when I press the button it goes off until I release it. I've tried discharging (taking the battery and ac out), pressing the power button a number of times and holding it then leaving it for a bit, but still nothing. I'm starting to become worried its a motherboard issue, but im still hoping for the best. I had turned off the power from the wall for the weekend on friday as I was out till sunday evening, but when I turned it on on sunday night it started up without issue. I'm a student whose tight with money at the moment and am hoping lenovo support can do something without payment, even if its out of warranty as I haven't modified or done anything other than use it as it should be used (I still take care of it as though its brand new; heck I've even increased the battery life to 4 hours after careful planning and usage). I would call the standard 0844 uk support line, but its really expensive for the situation I'm in at the moment as I only have a mobile and no access to a landline.  Next step I want to open it and take out the CMOS battery to hard reset, but d... Hi, I appreciate that this question may have been asked but I have never seen the answer. I have a Lenovo IdeaPad Z580, i3 running Windows 10 Home 64 bit. The HDD wasn't cutting it so I decided to upgrade it. I got my SSD the 'Sandisk Ultra II Plus'. Upon installation I am unable to anything with the new drive. Lenovo customer service wont help and I have no idea what to do. I thought I would just put the drive in and go into Boot Menu and select my USB and start installation but no. The lenovo logo would not even appear. If I press the small button by the on button it says Novo Button Menu but nothing happens if I select an option. Even if the old hardrive is in (which still works) and I attempt to access bios it just boots into Windows. I am left feeling completely helpless and since the laptop is easily out of warranty (bought 2012). I can't do that Any help would be appreciated no end Many thanks

I don't believe this is a bios issue that I've read many others having and fear it's MB/CPU related.  On startup, I get the tell tale black screen that just hangs. No splash screen, but everything else sounds active. Caps lock indicator will light up when toggled, although somewhat delayed. I've tried hooking up an external monitor, swapping ram, pulling battery and just about everything else, but none of it was successful. I've tried booting with the Novo button, and that does pop up, but selecting any of the 4 options results in the same black screen.    Haven't had any luck since it first happened getting past the boot screen.  Anything I'm missing trouble shooting wise? Or can anyone confidently say it is a MB/CPU issue?

Encoding a SD MPEG-2 movie to 1080 HD H264 through Sony Vegas Video 12 with GPU acceleration on and off results in essentially the same amount of time: about 1x real-time encoding speeds on the i5 CPU. Thus, those that want faster should look into the i7 CPU instead.Noticeably, at least for the Sony Vegas Video H264 encoder, the quality of the CPU-only encode is better than the GPU accelerated encode.CPU was about 60-65% loaded on CPU-only encode; about 20-25% on GPU encode (using the Intel HD 4000 Quicksync). But none-the-less, faster than the 6-8x slower than real time encoding of a decade old Pentium 4 3.06Ghz CPU system.Fan does speed up when the encode is underway, but it's nowhere as annoyingly loud as that on the 2006 Macbook Pro 15" (which sounds like an airplane engine)! Quite decent considering that you've got a ~35w TDP (45w+ at times) i5 CPU in there (Macbook Pro's also a 35w TDP CPU from 2006 era).---Comparing the screen vs. a decade old Toshiba 1130 and 2006 MacBook Pro 15" screen, the Toshiba is definitely inferior - very limited viewing range and mostly yellowish colors. Dull.Macbook is better at viewing angles than all three, but the colors are more yellow than real-life (eg. HDTV scenes of a 8-9am overcast day results in the road and sky looking more like it was a nice, warm, sunny day instead). That's on the default gamma included by Apple. Switching over to SRGB and the like on the Macbook is just troublesome since it's obvious none are properly optimized o... Read more

I have downloaded a program that reads the temperature of my cores (SpeedFan 4.49) just to see how hot my Lenovo Z580 gets when i'm playing games. When i'm playing Resident Evil 6, my cores are reaching temperatures of around 100 degrees, which sounds like it could be a problem! (This is from playing on 1280x720 specs)Can anyone please tell me what the normal temperatures of my CPU and GPU should be? And what is the maximum temperature that my CPU and GPU can get to before it starts becoming dangerous to my laptop? Thanks very much! Josh

Answer:What temperatures are too hot for the Lenovo Z580?

Try using other programs that shows cpu core temperatures and gpu temperatures. I use Hardware Info Monitor. You can get a general idea of the normal temps by not running games and videos temporarily. One determining factor that your unit is running at an exceedingly high temperature is the constant running of the built-in cooling fan. If this happen you do need some extra cooling like an external cooling pad.

Hello, I'm trying to fix my son's Z580 which refuses to startup.I am pretty sure it's not a software issue, as it won't boot of a DVD or USB either.I have tried a memory swap. Answer:Lenovo Z580 not charging

is the port physically wobbling as in loose? if so they should have fixed that. If its fixed and it still wont charge it could be your charger got fired froma short when it was loose, if you havea multi meter you chould check the end that goes into the laptop for the right amount of amps ect.

Answer:Lenovo Z580 fan issues

Hi fahrabh,

The first problem is that your machine is not on the list of compatible systems that can currently run Win 10. This does not necessarly mean it wont run it but you might encounter this and other bugs.

It is uncertain whether or not your system will be added to the list so the best piece of advise is to revert back to your previously working OS.

If your heart is set on keeping Win 10 then somethings you can try:

1. Uninstall and reinstall power management software.
2. Try running a lower energy profile, not performance.

My problem began when I updated my BIOS at Lenovo to version 5FC95WW. Now my laptop will not boot into Windows 7. It automatically goes to the Bios set up screen only. After I save and exit from the Bios screen & wait about 15 seconds it goes back to the 'set-up' screen again. It will not do anything else. Everything appears to be normal in that screen. Hi, I ran into this issue a few days back.http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-Z-and-P-series/Random-shutdown-and-PXE-E61-and-PXE-M0F-err... I searched for solutions all over the web and was'nt able to resolve the issue so i took my laptop to 'the guy' and he diagnosed a Hard Drive failure and asked for my Internal HDD to be replaced. I was fine with it until i heard his quotation for a replacement Hard Drive (Seagate or Toshiba) which would cost me a bomb. So i decided i'l come back home and check if i can do it myself for cheaper. And i found that if i could do it at home it would be significantly cheaper and also replacing the Internal Hard Drive is no rocket science. I now know how to replace the Internal HDD after going through various forums and youtube videos.  What i don't know is which are the alternate HDDs which will be compatible with my z580. I somehow managed to pull out a few 500gb HDDs which i think might suit my Laptop.  I want some suggestions as to whether these would be compatible with my Lenovo Ideapad z580. AFAIK, If you have .okr or .wsi file extensions on those backup files then they can only be opened via the OneKey Recovery application as these files are encrypted by that program.

Hello, Before I had reset my laptop to factory settings I used to be able to change my fan settings by pressing "fn + half moon button" (fn + F1). I used to get 4 options "Quiet, Normal, Cool and Dusting".Now whenever I do that, the laptop just goes to sleep mode.. I also tried changing the settings using Power Management, but I only have the dusting option there. Is there any way I can still access the options?

Answer:Lenovo fan control problem Z580

HiFn+F1 is for sleeping the laptop only. Maybe their was a bug in the earlier version. You should have thermal touch sensitive button above the keyboard.Regards

Howdy y'all, So I have a Lenovo Z580. Model Name 2151. i5-3230M, 8GB RAM, 635M graphics. I also have a desktop PC with an SSD and a Lenovo Z50-70 with an SSHD.  When using this Z580, I do find the access speeds to be slow. Of course, it's only got a 5400RPM. What I'd like to do is either replace the HDD with an SSD or maybe an SSHD. I did some Googling and I have discovered that some people who have tried to do this have had issues with the drive not being recognised. Does anyone know of anything in particular drive-wise that laptop does not support? I know how to fit the drive so that isn't an issue but seems there may be some hardware it can't support? UEFI maybe? I don't know. Also, can I create a new installation disc from the Lenovo recovery partition, or would i have to buy a new Windows licence? Cheers all

What OS do you have? What is the version of OKR?
