Preferred Solution: Boot Windows 7 on Z580

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Boot Windows 7 on Z580

HiThe two causes for this could be that either the usb/dvd is not bootable or you first have to select the usb device from f12 boot menu.See this guide on creating bootable diskhttp://www.google.co.in/url?q=http://bitsquad.co.in/2011/05/windows-7-bootable-usb/&sa=U&ei=CHXmUKv3...Or you could use softwares like microsoft windows to usb/dvd tool or novicorp wintoflash

On a Lenovo IdeaPad Z580 Model 2151 Manufactured 5/6/2012

The computer will not boot. It defaults to the automatic Windows Repair menu.

When I first ran Windows Repair, it said that I have a corrupted mfewfpk.sys file, which is associated with McAfee Antivirus software.

Windows startup repair: ?cannot repair this computer automatically?.

I restored the system to the previous restore point and the one before that with no change.

In the command prompt, if sfc/scannow is chosen it says ?There is a system repair pending that requires reboot to complete. If I reboot the computer, I get the same message. I have done this multiple times. It's stuck in a loop.

When I tried to download a Windows 7 ISO file, Microsoft says to contact Lenovo.  Even if I am able to make a bootable Windows 7 USB drive, would I be able to fix the corrupted mfewfpk.sys file?

I have a z580 Ideapad that I've had for quite some time(2 - 3 years). I can access the boot menu through the novo button perfectly fine, when I select my USB drive with my OSX bootable image on it, it loads to the lenovo screen, then reloads and loads up windows 8. I have changed the settings in the BIOS to allow the USB to boot first in the boot order, however this doesn't change anything. Here are some images of my BIOS: http://tinyurl.com/okz7v23http://tinyurl.com/okzsxyehttp://tinyurl.com/ngdufau  I have heard people with similar problems to mine, have disabled the secure boot setting but it doesn't appear in my BIOS for some reason. Also sometimes, my USB drive doesn't display properly in the BIOS boot order list, or on the boot menu. In the picture above that's what it shows when it doesn't appear in the boot menu, but when it does, its called USB HDD: Generic Flash Disk. Its not a problem with USB 3.0 ports as I have tested all ports on my computer (2x 3.0, 2x 2.0). Any help is greatly appreciated.

Answer:Z580 doesn't boot from USB, boots to windows 8

For Windows 8 to boot from a USB requires some tricks (at times) -

1) Make sure Secure boot if OFF (I know you said its not available, but I have to mention this)
2) Keep Boot mode as Legacy. (I suspect this is what you are missing)
3) Enable Boot from USB.

Save the settings and restart with the USB plugged in.

If it still doesnt boot, try to re-create the bootable USB.

Hey All This is my 1st post here.. I have Z580 laptop with One Key Recovery Option... I have dual boot in it - Windows 7 Home Basic and WIndows Server 2008 R2 I want to create a back up image file of both at the same time, using One Key Recovery, so that I can restore back in future, if need be 1. So, I will log in to, say, WIndows 7 and take the back up image.. Will that take an image for both OS at the same time? Basic question here is does it image of the Hard disk or each OS.. 2. Or do I have to take a separate image of both after logging into respective OS? 3. If answer to 1 is YES, will that restore both the systems at the same time in future using the One Key Recovery solution? 4. If the answer to 2 is YES, can i restore both the systems individually just by using the One Key Recovery solution? Br, Ajay Maheshwari

Hi Everyone, I bought the new lenovo z580 with windows 7 64bit, I would like to dual boot it with Windows 8 and it won't let me.  I need a new partition so using the shrink volume feature I created a new partition.  When I try to load win8 there it tells me I cannot because the disc already has the maximum number of partition types on it, or allowed. Loaded Win7 back up, and tried creating a new labeled partition using Disk Man. but it says I would have to convert the disc to a dynamic one which will cause any installed OS to not load.  So I canceled that.... i extended the c: drive back to its orginal state but I don't see a way to dual boot with Windows 8.  Has anyone else had this problem ?I searched and couldn't find anything .... thanks.

Lenovo Ideapad z580 Win10 64 I updated the bios with the private update (I know now that I should have used the public update) Then it showed this menu:http://i.imgur.com/kZaO2tf.jpg Whenever I selected HDD, the screen would go black for a couple of seconds and return to this menu. I fixed it by going into BIOS and changing bootmode from UEFI to Legacy. it booted but now everything is slow. It takes 5 mins to boot up and a further 15 minutes to reach usable speeds (I only have 4 startup programs). I tried changing it back to UEFI and it gives me the same problem as shown in the picture. I tried installing the public update, but it says that I cannot update as the current bios version is the same or newer. I went into BIOS and enabled BIOS back flash, and now when I try to start the public update, it just crashes. I also cannot access the start menu (this problem may be seperate and unrelated) I have backed up files and am prepared to do a clean reinstall of Win10, but I feel this won't work as it's a BIOS issue. The computer is unusably slow: what should I do? Thanks

I created a separate partition for installing Win XP Pro.  I labeled it F.  When I run the Win XP Pro install disk, all I see is the full 500 GB partition available.  This has worked on other notebooks with Vista and 7 preinstalled.  What am I doing wrong?

Answer:Install Windows XP Pro as a dual boot OS with preinstalled Win 8 on Ideapad Z580.

The best way to dusal boot a NTLDR os(Win XP) and a BOOTMGR os(Win 8,7,Vista) is to install the ntldr os first and then the windows 8 os. Orelse it could be difficult to use win 8 after win xp installtion though it is possible by using boot sector restoration tool.http://www.google.co.in/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=boot%20sector%20restoration%20tool&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&...Hope this helps

Where Can I download or order a Boot Disc for my Z580?  It came with Windows 7, and PC World were offering a free upgrade to Windows 8.  I am currently unable to create a Factory Default Recovery Disc.  There is an error with the Onekey Recovery software in burning onto the DVD / Disc.  I have tried two different DVDs (4.7GB), and have tried a CD (740MB).  And I receive the same error about one fifth of the way through. The reason I am having to do a factory reset, is because my Wirless Network driver is not working, and the laptop no longer accepts external wireless USB dongles.  I can't get internet even with a wired connection.  It isn't to do with whether the wireless is switched on or not.  I've tried this. What is Lenovos policy about providing customers with the means to restore their Laptops?  In the past computer manufacturers / suppliers provided all the software and bootdiscs. Thanks

hi Timneedshelp,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Have you tried performing Recovery using the Recovery Button?

Turn off the system then press the small button like the one on the photo
And it should boot your system to a Recovery Like environment giving your options to restore factory back up,

If this one failed or not working, I suggest Calling Lenovo Technical Support in your location for a CD option,

Hope this helps

Question: Z580 Does Not Boot

Working on my mother-in-laws Z580 laptop. It doesn't boot properly. The machine seems to boot but the screen is blank. Tried the function keys to turn on/off the LED backlight, but no joy. I saw there was a bios update, but it will not install gives error 216 Failed to read BIOS from ROM! Status = 1604. I looked the start up bios startup screen and it says that the BIOS is an EVALUATION VERSION - NOT FOR RESALE. How can I get this fixed? Or get the new BIOS to install? She bought it from Staples in fall of 2012 and has only used it about two dozens times. Thanks

Answer:Z580 Does Not Boot

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Have you tried hooking up the laptop to an external monitor to see if there is any screen activity on that display when Windows boots up?

I assume that the image posted was taken from the laptop's display.  If it was at least you know the display is functioning before the operating system is loaded.

Why do you think a BIOS upgrade will resolve the problem ?

My problem began when I updated my BIOS at Lenovo to version 5FC95WW. Now my laptop will not boot into Windows 7. It automatically goes to the Bios set up screen only. After I save and exit from the Bios screen & wait about 15 seconds it goes back to the 'set-up' screen again. It will not do anything else. Everything appears to be normal in that screen. Has anybody got any suggestions. Thanks.

Hello, I am having a problem with my Lenovo Z580 (2013)A few weeks ago when I tried to boot up my computer, the computer would power on with the keys backlit but no display would come on the screen. After doing a quick google search for possible problems I took out the RAM (8GB) and tried each block in each slot spearately. When doing this I booted the computer each time, the laptop would come on for a few seconds then beep and turn off and would repeat this cycle without me touching the button until I removed the charger. Now, when I put both memory blocks back in and try to boot the laptop exhibits the same behaviour. Also I should note, due to water damage, the harddrive and motherboard were replaced (by Lenovo) in July last year.

Answer:Boot Problem with Z580

Hi bmcormick91 ,

Greetings.

Would the pc completely shut down or just restarts with initial beep and restart loop?
Would you be able to glance on a Lenovo splash screeen when it restarts?

Can you try it without a harddrive ?

Turn off pc and remove the battery and unplug the charger. Remove the harddrive.
Press down power button for 15 seconds for a power drain.

Without a harddrive, place back battery and adapter charger and press the novo key (page81 One key button) .
Would you be able to stay on a novo menu screen and choose BIOS to ( load defaults F10 save and exit?

Update us.

Question: Slow boot Z580

Hello, I just bought a shiny new Ideapad Z580 with an i7 processor and 8GB RAM, and was pretty disappointed with the startup time... initially, it took around 2 minutes, but after runnning the optimisation tool that Lenovo provides and removing unnecessary applications using msconfig, it takes around 50 seconds. This is substantially different to the 24s startup Lenovo seems to claim with the Enhanced Experience 3 they provide with the laptop. I would like to ask, is this startup time normal, or is there something wrong with the laptop? Thanks!

Hi,Today my idea pad z580 crashed after the unexpected power disconnect. I was optimising my laptop by running Lenovo optimiser and it was running on direct power as I have taken out the battery. In the middle of the optimising process my brother switched off the power button and the process didn't complete.Later when I switched the laptop ON it asked for the system repair and but it was not repaired instead it show that the system repair failed. I have tried it several times but I am unable to run the laptop. Every time it boots up it shows the same massage of system repair and result says system repair failed. Please advise what to do??

Answer:Idea pad z580 does not boot up

hi rankish,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

It looks like the OS got corrupted when the EE Boot Optimizer didn't completed.

What you can try is to:
1. Boot into Safe Mode by continuously tapping F8 during startup. If you get in, try to restart the PC in normal mode. If that doesn't work, perform a System Restore
2.  If you're unable to boot into safe mode,  you will need to restore all settings from factory by pressing the One Key Recovery button (not that all data will be wiped out).

Hope this helps.

Question: Z580 wont boot up

Hi Guys Im having some difficulties with my laptop but I don't have any idea why. The laptop was shut down Thursday evening and when I came to use it on Friday it started off normally with the Lenovo screen coming up and the the screen goes black and then the lenovo screen comes up again and it then just gets stuck in the cycle.  Nothing happened to it during the time it was shut down and the time I came to start it up so I don't know what can have happened. I have tried removing the battery and holding the power button which I've seen suggested in some posts but it doesn't seem to make any difference.  The laptop is only a few months old so its very disappointing that it seems to have failed. I'm not very technical but any information that might help would be really appreciated thanks

Question: Z580 - Boot issues

I got a Lenovo Z580 laptop in 2012. From the beginning I used to get Blue Screen of Death when I shutdown and powered on my laptop, but if I just restart there was no issues. The exception used to vary from "Paging in unpaged memory" to "IQR_LESS_THAN_EQUAL" or something like that, I don't remember it correctly. I used to live with it, but now it became worse and I can't even boot it up. I restored to the factory default image and I still have the same issue. I even upgraded to Windows 8, it worked for a day and then the same problem. Is this a hardware issue ? Disk management shows that the drives are healthy. 1. 200 MB NTFS Healthy (System, Active, Primary Partition)2. 886.32 GB NTFS Healthy (Boot, Page File, Crash Dump, Primary Partition)3. 25.47 GB NTFS Healthy (Logical Drive)4. 19.53 GB Healthy (OEM Partition) I have tried everything and no clue on how to proceed. Once the system boots up, I don't have any issues.

Answer:Z580 - Boot issues

Usually it is system corrupted file/files. Try going to command prompt with admin rights. Type without quotation mark "sfc /scannow". If sfc finds errors and it cannot make the repair try running Dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth under administrator rights also in command prompt..

I have an IdeaPad Z580 that does not boot. It gives a black screen, and the fan does not switch on. I saw a similar thread posted, however in that thread the IdeaPad would eventually boot after several tries. My machine will not boot, however, no matter how many times I try. Therefor, attempting a BIOS update as suggested in the other thread will not boot. It is important that  get my laptop working. I have some homework that I need to do that is stored on that laptop, it is near the end of the semester, and I cannot afford to fail. I have confirmed the hard disk working in my older laptop (hallelujah!), unfortunately I need a virtual machine to run some software (it won't work in my OS of choice, I tried), but since the IdeaPad (where I set up the VM) supports hardware virtualization and the old laptop does not, the VM refuses to boot, and I have no other machine available. Is there a way to try to fix this without sending in the laptop? As mentioned, I need to do some homework, and I may not get the laptop back in time if I have to send it in for repair. If I do need to send it in, can I keep the hard disk? I am a privacy nut and the hard disk isn't encrypted. Plus I do not want to risk being sent a blank hard disk, I currently have not the means to make backups due to the huge VMs.

Hello everybody, I have recently bought a Z580 (59362732 Product Number), provided without a pre-installed OS. I sucessfully installed a Crucial SSD (into the place of the HDD), and replaced the DVD drive with the original HDD.After installing Win7Pro and all the provided drivers on the SSD (UEFI Boot was set to Enabled, SATA mode to AHCI before the install) I am experiencing a strange startup problem - it does not appear everytime, but the laptop hangs often right after the Lenovo logo disappears and restarts itself on and on, as if it could not find the partition to boot from. However, in the BIOS setup everything seems normal - it recognises both of my disks. This problem does appear on both UEFI enabled and disabled startups, but strangely, Windows starts without any problems after toggling the UEFI option in BIOS setup -- it does not matter if enabling or disabling it. I have been searching for the solution on the Internet but could not found any solution yet. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, feki1409

Answer:Z580 UEFI Boot Issue

Hello and welcome,

This is just pure speculation on my part:  the SSD is either defective or becomes busy for a time during boot while it does some internal housekeeping.

If you go to BIOS setup but just "pretend" to change the UEFI settings - I mean just pause there for the same length of time - does the OS then boot as it should?

I've seen something similar with a Crucial SSD. In that case it was on a ThinkPad and threw an error during boot until the SSD had been powered on long enough to complete its internal maintenance.  This was following an SSD firmware update.

Have you updated the SSD's firmware to the latest version?

Z.

Hi! I have recently bought a Lenovo z580 for my school work. A few day ago, I bought a SSD and used EASEUS cloned the HHD to the SSD and set the SSD to the MBR, but I didn't disable the secure boot. The SSD works. Then I was aware of too many software on the drive. I put the HHD back to the computer and deleted 2 partitions( not the lenovo partitions), which I shrink from the OS partitions. After that, I used the Acronis true image 2013 to clone the HHD to the SSD again. Now, something wrong, during the restart, a message shows up "secure boot, image failed to verify access denied, click ok". I clike ok, the laptop can log into win 8 and use it as normal, but everytime, I restart my computer, "secure boot, image failed to verify access denied" shows up. I tried to get into the UEFI to disable the secure boot. It doesn't work( after restarting, that message shows up). I followed people advice that restart the UEFI in advance function then push F1,2,8,10,12 and B. I tired many method to get into the UEFI, not working. It seems the secure boot lock on my laptop. how can I eliminate the secure boot message and get my laptop to normal?

Hi folks,  I've had my z580 for maybe 6 months, and until now I've had no problems with it.   Recently updated to Win 8.1 and then used RecImg Manager by Slimware Utilities to make a custom refresh image to save time with future factory resets.  Around the same time as this, although I don't recall at exactly which point, I started to get a pop-up boot message asking me to choose the boot option. This happens maybe 5 seconds after power-up, and pressing Esc gets rid of it and all continues as normal.  There doesn't seem to be anything else wrong with the PC, and although it's only a minor annoyance at the moment I'm concerned it signals a hardware fault of some kind.  Any help would be most welcome.  Thanks, Bill

Now, I know there are like, 4 similar posts, however I've tried all of the solutions. I'm trying to boot from a chrome OS boot usb that I know works. I know I'm on secure boot and legacy is off so I go to try and boot into uefi to change that, however whenever I do it hangs for the longest time then skips straight to the onekey recovery. Tried different ways of booting to it, nothing. Tried just booting the USB drive but of course it won't boot as I'm still on secure boot with legacy off. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried booting from a DVD.  If not the its easy. When the computer starts up press F10.  It will give you boot options. Select the one qith the optical drive. While installing I advise you that you should make a partition of the Hard disk.  Well do you have SSD in your laptop. If yes then how much space it provides you?  Make some research and theen use the SSD for installing Windows.  Try this thing out. Hope it will work for you.

When I turn my Z580 on after the initial loading screen appears I am showed a blank screen. I try out all the options like checking whether LCD is ON/OFF, sleep mode, etc but to no avail. I have to restart the PC then & the problem goes away.  The problem is only occassional & does not always occur on boot-up.

Here's my sad story (I'm using a Lenovo Z580 laptop with Windows 7):

On Tues, 11/11/14 I installed all of the critical & important Windows Updates along with 2 additional updates (I don't recall what the additional ones were for).

After the updates completed I rebooted the machine, but the display did not come on. The lights and fan came on, but no display. I rebooted 3 or 4 more times and nothing changed. I plugged an external monitor into the laptop but got no display on either screen. From there I spent an hour or so powering the machine completely down, removing the battery, then rebooting while trying to enter either Safe Mode with F8 or the BIOS with F2 but each time I did the computer did not respond. A friend suggested removing and replacing the CMOS battery. I did that, put the machine back together, but now when I push the power button the lights and fan come on for about 1 second, go off for about 8 seconds, and that cycle (1 second on, 8 seconds off) repeats until I remove the battery. I did put back the original CMOS battery and the same thing continues to happen.

I've gone all over the internet for the past 2 days looking for suggestions and nothing I've found or done is resolving the issue.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Right now I've got a brick, so I'm pretty willing to try anything.

Steve

Answer:z580 - Which password to use if laptop is in safe mode ideapad z580 ?

hi akshu_13,

Welcome to the Forums.

If you're running on Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1, you should use the same password that you've set on your account.

If you're running on Windows XP, by default, you will see an additional Administrator account and the password is set to none. If you'll be using your own account and not the Administrator one then you should use the same password like in normal Windows.

Note:
Windows 8/8.1 can use a Microsoft Account and a Local Account. If you boot in Safe Mode only (not Safe Mode with Networking), you won't be able to use the Microsoft Account login as it requires internet access to verify your credentials, thus, you will need to use a Local Account.

Let me know if this helps you out.

Hello,I'm trying to clean install Windows 10 on my laptop but I'm having some problems. My laptop is an old Lenovo Z580 i7. Initially it had Windows 8 but then I somehow managed to clean install Windows 10 on it.I said somehow because I'm trying to do the same right now, but I can't manage to do it!The problem is I can't find any way to boot from USB to access to the Windows 10 installer. It's a well known problem with Lenovo Z580 that many people had. When I clean installed a couple of years ago I managed to boot it from the USB, but I tried so many things now and I can't do it!I tried clicking the Lenovo button (which is how it's supposed to work) but nothing happens. I tried to access the BIOS but it doesn't let me go on it, whatever button I press on boot. I tried to reboot from Windows 10 going on Settings -> Recovery, still I can't get to boot via USB.Does anyone have a suggestion about what to do?Thank you.

Hi, i purchased a lenovo Z580 with windows 7 HB,  i5 processor & 4gb ram on November 2012. Initially it took approximately 24 second to start but after reformatting it with the optical disks some days ago the startup time has become 50 seconds to 1 minute. I optimized the laptop using boot optimizer but that did not help since it is taking the same 1 minute start up and its asking repeatedly for optimization.the laptop has not been heavily used also During this time any sort of window service has not been enabled or has any new programme or application been installed. At the service center they are telling me that a 1 minute boot time is a not a big issue but then the Enhanced Experience 3 technology in the laptop is becoming useless. What is the problem occuring & how do i fix this problem?  Thanks!

Lenovo z580 I5 6gb ram, 1tb GFT hdd win 8/64 - 18 months old. System is excruciatingly slow, all works but not in a manner that is usable.

I have exhausted my knowledge as to what the issue is. What I have tried:

Usual safe boot, remove AV, Java, combofix, rootkit checks, chkdsk, sfc, seatools long check, reseated hdd,
in place repair. Troubleshooter indicated no problems. Non solved the issue.

I even sent away for the Lenovo win8/64 re-install disks - took 8 hours to get the system re-installed, but still the same (patience is a virtue!).

After going back to manufacturer settings, I am coming down to hardware problems - in 12 years never had a processor issue - Seatools did not give me errors. although I am leaning to this as the source of the issue. Is there any other issue eg motherboard? Is there a way I can pin-point the issue without going out and buying more unnecessary replacement parts?

Please advise

Answer:Lenovo z580 very slow (15 minutes to boot)

Try removing half the ram then test. If still slow, swap ram and test again.

6GB is an odd number for ram. What mix of memory modules do you have?

Hello everyone, I've just bought used Lenovo IP Z580 white (without OS), installed Windows 7 64bit and every 2-3 days I have problem with it. I've installed all drivers, the pc works fine, but as I said, I got a problem with restarting. On the screen shows Lenovo logo, then it disappears and it restarts in the cycle. I have tryied various BIOS settings, when the SATA controller mode is on "AHCI", windows will not boot and it crashes with BSoD and there's no chance to start the system. when it's on the second option "Compatible", it works often but with this setting it will doing the problem with restarting.  I know, this post/problem was here already, but I tryied to do, what u were advising and my problem still persists. I am trying to find the final solution and the Win7 will be stable and reliable. I know that, when this ntb was made, there wasn't any Windows 8, nevertheless I don't want Win 8. Now I can only flash the BIOS, it is the last thing, I can do. If the problem will persist, I don't know what should I do with the notebook. (I can return it to the shop only). If you need my system specs or something, just ask. Sorry for my bad English, thanks for your replies

You should get a technician look at it or preferably, return it for another laptop. If a newly bought laptop is doing that, it doesnt sound good for its future.

Hi everybody, I saw many of problems like mine there, but I can't still do anything after several attempts to solve that.  It started two weeks ago.. I did cleaned my hdd, then to keep my device lil a bit update I have updated few drivers. First day, it was able to boot up after 10-15 attempts. (Holding down the power button, disc. battery, ac, reconnect and power button again). Since that time I was unable to get to the BIOS, set Boot order, and I couldn't see even the splash screen. Several days it did the same and the attempts grew up.  Last time it was able to launch, its about 4 days ago, I was watching, film then I felt asleep. When I woke up in the morning, the screen wasn't black but still slighty light(not off, fans were working, cooler was fine). Since that moment I couldn't boot it anymore. I tried reseting CMOS battery, tried to flash bios by using flash disk and Fn+R (laptop did different thing but after 15secs it has turned off).. I think it is frozen BIOS but I haven't clue what to do when I can't simply set the boot order.  Maybe I am wrong and the problem is only in the motherboard. Novo button works but everything I choose there, it ending by black screen again.  Thanks for help, maybe for any solutions how to fix this. I am prepared to buy another motherboard, but if I would be able to repair it on my own, I would happy. Thanks,Jakub.

As the title says, just wondered if theres any lenovo software the works with the z580 ? lenovo companion on windows 8 offers some stuff but its listed as u series ect ? cheers for replys inadvance, mike

Answer:(z580) Just wondered what lenovo software will work with the z580 ?

hi mikee77,

The Lenovo Z580 comes with these lenovo pre-installed apps:

Lenovo OneKey RecoveryLenovo OneKey TheaterLenovo Cloud Storage by SugarSyncLenovo Energy ManagementLenovo Companion

The Lenovo Companion is like an app store the features:

Third-Party Apps and Ads
Lenovo products, Tutorials, Application showcases, Lenovo accessories information, Lenovo Cloud, and a link to Lenovo blogs and articles

Most apps listed on the Lenovo Companion will work on the Z580 as long as it meets the system requirements (i.e. If an app is made only for Touchscreen models, then you will need to get the non-touchscreen version or if there's a Utility app that senses temperature on a specific model, make sure Z580 is on the supported models).

Good afternoon, I am quite disappointed because I see many problems with BIOS or BOOT problems for Lenovo Z580.I still can't find solution for my problem. The point is I can't go to the BIOS with lenovo recovery button. I had to pull out battery of bios and then I could go there. When I changed some options and saved the settings, the bios had still same options like before. I can't swtich the boot priorities. However I inserted boot flash with WIN10 to install that, but I can't because of the boot priorities. I am stucked. Also I tried all key shortcuts, It does nothing. I really don't want to  take out the HDD and re-install the windows in different PC via sata.  Can you tell me how should I boot the flash or CD with windows when I can't set up the boot priotiry? All I can see is blackscreen.  The point with lenovo recovery button is also weird. When i start laptop via this button I see the menu with options but after I choose one of them for example ''recovery" or "bios " It does nothing.  Thanks, David Byrtus

New user here...have had my z580 (Win7 64bit) for a couple months and just did a RAM upgrade from the stock 6gb to 16gb. it was confirmed in another forum that it supports 16gb so i took a chance on the ram below:G.SKILL 16GB (2 x 8G) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Laptop Memory ModelF3-1600C11D-16GSQ  But then booting up went from about 5 secs (i have an SSD installed) to about 90+ secs. i read on another forum that a temp fix would be to go to the bios settings and disable Optimus (it has an nvidia gt 630) and just force UMA. i did that and it booted up as quick as before. the 16gb were also recognized so i figured it's not a RAM issue? maybe a driver issue? Well since my laptop is still relatively new, i didnt have alot installed on it...so i decided to do a clean re-install of Windows 7 w/ the 16gb RAM installed. Went thru the whole process successfully re-installed essential drivers but it was the same result...whenever i booted up w/ Optimus enabled it would take over 90 secs, when i disabled Optimus, boot time was quick as before. Has anyone had this issue before? Or could point me to where i can find a fix for it? In the meantime, i re-installed the stock 6gb that was running no problem. thanks!!!

I purchased a used Leovo Z580 laptop; the seller put in a SSD, no operating system (the way I asked for it). It's like brand new, I don't think anyone ever used it. I have another Lenovo Z580, so I am familiar with this model. I purchased it to install Linux Mint, which I put on a thumb drive after downloading the .iso file. When I turn on the laptop, I get a blank screen and then after several seconds I get a list of options for the Boot Menu, starting with Windows Boot Manager. All the other drives are there, including the CD/DVD, the SSD, and the USB thumb drive, as well as two PCI LAN options. When I select any of these, the menu disappears, and the computer apparently reboots as the same menu comes up after a delay of several seconds. When I choose App Menu > Setup, I get the BIOS Settings menu. Under the Boot tab, I make certain that "boot from USB" is enabled. I change the boot order, putting USB at the top, and make certain to save these changes. When I exit out and reboot, the exact same menu comes up, with the exact same boot order as before, i.e.: not the USB. What am I doing wrong, and how do I fix it? Booting while holding F2 doesn't work, nor does F12, nor does booting it without the battery in. This series of laptops is kind of weird in that holding down the "b" key seems to summon the menu, but that does not work with this laptop. Plus, I seem to be getting to the boot order menu, just that changes never seem to "stick." What a... Read more

I have Lenovo Ideapad Z580 which came with pre-installed windows 8. For few days it was working fine then it gets stuck at boot with spinning circles. I left for almost an hour still the circles keep on spinning...... Anyone please help me.

Answer:Z580 Boot Hang Stuck At Spinning Circles

Hi aadidev,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry that your Z580 is not booting to Windows and hanging at loading OS (Operating System), below are the steps to perform BIOS to its defaults in the computer.

Press the NOVO button to enter the BIOS menu, Click Here and refer page no.2 to locate the NOVO button.

Note: To check how the BIOS menu looks and to explore its options Click Here.

In the ?Information? Tab check if the HDD (Hard Disk Drive) is listed in the Tab or is it displaying ?No Device Detected?.
If the HDD is listed in ?Information? Tab, I suggest you to reset the BIOS to its defaults by clicking on ?F9? Key and select YES.
Then Click on ?F10? Key to safe the changes that are done in BIOS, restart the computer and check if the issue is resolved.

If the issue still persists even after performing BIOS reset, I would suggest you performing OSRI (Operating System Re-Install) should resolve the issue Click Here and refer page no.27 to check the steps to perform OSRI using One Key Recovery, if and only if the computer was pre-installed with Windows Operating System.

NOTE: Please backup the data in the computer before performing OSRI, as the data will be completely erased.

Hope this helps!!!

Do post us back for further queries.

Best Regards

Shiva Kumar

Hi kmpways, welcome to the forums,

it will help members to help you if you could post which operating system is insatlled on your Z580 and also which keys you have been pressing in order to enter BIOS.

Have you been pressing the keys during a warm or a cold start?  There are some other very similar posts on the boards, the following seems to contain some good tips which you may / may not have already tried.

It happened after I altered HDD partitions. Now it wont go into boot menu, BIOS etc and wont boot from USB,HDD or DVD.  When I turn it on I get a screen displaying specs. F2 F10 or any other key is not working. I downloaded 5fcn95ww.exe BIOS for this model but as I am not able to boot into windows it is of no use to me. I have managed to extract 5fcn95ww.cap file from it. Any ideas on how to flash it?

Answer:Ideapad Z580 wont boot. How to recover BIOS?

hi toxicdevil,

Just to verify, when you said you altered the HDD partition, did you deleted/shrinked anything on this list?

If you have the Z580 that's listed on this datasheet, can you try the following to access the BIOS:
1. Perform a hard shutdown and press the OneKey Recovery button. When the machine turns ON, check if you have an option to boot to the BIOS.
   - Link to picture

2. If you have created a recovery drive, try to boot from it and perform a startup repair to fix the Windows (this should allow you to boot back inside Windows). If the repair fails, try to open a command prompt and follow this guide on how to repair the boot manager.

Alternatively, if you don't have a recovery drive and you have another working PC, try to create a bootable Windows 8 Disc (evaluation copy) and from there, you can perform Step 2 above. If you're successful in booting back into Windows, try to boot into the BIOS via the UEFI Firmware Settings

As for flashing the BIOS outside Windows, there's no official guide on how to do this but doing a google search led me to this blog that contains specific instructions on how to recover / flash the BIOS outside Windows.

I have wiped evrything from my z580 including the recovery partitions and made my own partition and installed windows 10. Ever since the boot up its really slow, it takes about 20 mins or more, so i force it to open recovery menu and then restart from there and it just starts in a minute...I am suspecting its occuring after faulty installing the newer BIOS from support page. There were 2 bios one was public and other was private which both were to be installed in same order, but i installed only the private bios file. Later i try to reinstall it says error 182 reading bios is earlier or same version as above.. Is there anyway to get older bios installed back? Or any other workarounds...

I own a Lenovo G700, and I have heard that Shift + F2 will get you into the BIOS. It might work if all else fails. You can also call Lenovo support or search around a bit more. But in my case I have to use the hardware OneKey Recovery button to access it.

I am setting up this laptop for a family member. It came with win8, but I put in a new ssd and installed win7 pro ( I am tech support and I hate win8 and don't know it well enough to take care of the inevitible support issues). I downloaded all the appropriate drivers from the Lenovo website for the correct version of windows and this machine. Everything seemed to work fine. Then, for quite a while, when I booted the machine it would start up with the energy management software, or the keyboard, or the one touch keys and/or the touchpad, or all of the above, not working. Or the touchpad would eventually work, but with almost no functionality and the synaptics setup tab showing only a patent, and no options for tweaking the touchpad. And the Fn F6 buttons might show the icon for the touchpad being shut off, but is was not. I uninstalled, reinstalled, tried different versions, eventually I thought I had it beat. I could boot the machine and everything actually works. Until today. After several reboots the keyboard and touchpad were refusing to work. Then after several more boots, the keyboard worked, but not the TP. Then the TP would work, but with limited functionality. A few more reboots and the TP is working as it should. I thought maybe having my corded mouse plugged in when booting might be confusing it somehow, but unplugging it and several reboots later there was no joy. Other times it lit right up with the mouse plugged in and the TP worked as i... Read more

I am extremely upset because I think I have just ruined my laptop through trying to perform a BIOS update which LENOVO provided through the website.I had recently reset my computer to factory settings via the ONE KEY RECOVERY button. After basic setup and startup, I decided to install the BIOS update Windows 7 64 Bit for my PC. I downloaded the two files provided: public and private, and moved on to first click on the public file. This opened up another application with various options which the README file provided no information on.Anyway my computer began to restart itself and perform some operations to which it is now stuck on the BOOT MENU.Each time I turn on the POWER ON button, I am directed to the BOOT MENU, and I have no option to use my computer as normal. Please help me on this.

Answer:Ideapad Z580 stuck on Boot Menu after BIOS update ...

Hi Lilyolive,I had the same problem 2 weeks ago and I freaked out too. I installed the two files in the incorrect order (I couldn't even install the other one) but I brought my computer to a computer shop and they fixed it! They said that the BIOS was configured incorrectly, so your computer is NOT ruined.I don't know what exactly the problem was but I can maybe help you to send pictures of my correctly configured BIOSP.S. sorry for my bad english

I have a Lenovo Ideapad z580 that I bought brand new a year ago. It just turned off on me all of a sudden a week ago. I used the One Key Recovery and it restored the system and began to work again. Yesterday it did the dame thing and I tried it again. This time it went through the process but the when it was time to reboot, the screen remained blank..Its not dark..its lit just a little and all the lights are on. I made sure the lcd screen was turned on but it still wont do anything at all. Please help??

Answer:Lenovo ideapad z580 wont boot after system restore

Hello bree1234 and welcome to TSG.

I'm guessing it's not but if it's still under warranty send it for repair.

Is the screen completely blank all the time, no text or anything else is displayed at all ?

Shine a light onto the screen and check if there is a faint display of text etc.

When I switch on my Lenovo Z580, it gets stuck on the Boot Menu/App Menu and after going back and forth, it eventually starts properly, is there a way to have my PC start properly without the boot menu/app menu popping up in the first place. Any help on fixing this will be much appreciated as I fear it is only a matter of time before it stays stuck on the boot menu/app menu pop up screen.

A Horrible end to a LONG weekend after a Sandisk extreme SSD 480GB  update on a Z580 running Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium .  After a long sequence of events, I ended up with a machine that can't boot, and the screen goes blank when F2 is pressed (although the backlight stays on)  FN+F2 will turn the backlight off or on.  F2, F8 no longer works, as well as F12, NO WAY TO ACCESS BOOT MENU.  Even with the no drive, there is no error!! (it should say that the boot device wasn't found, or whatever).  It seems the BIOS was somehow changed during all this, and is now mostly dead, even though I never went into it except to detect the new SSD.  Putting back the original HDD does nothing to fix this, and the computer is unusable. I will list the events in order.  Note that at all times, I unplugged the laptop, removed the battery, etc.  The worse part in all this is that replacing the original drive did NOT bring the machine back from the dead.  This laptop is about a month old, and worked fine before all this,  URGHHH!!!!  I also did a LOT of internet research, and think this also happens to others in one form or another.  One person said pressing B during a boot would restore the BIOS, no such luck, I have tried everything! http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-Z-and-P-series/z580-can-t-access-bios-setup-or-boot-menu-a... 1) Imaged the original HDD on... Answer:Wifi and bluetooth is not working after upgarding windows 7 home basic to windows 8,,Z580

Hi hemantrocks1990,

First lets check if the drivers for the Wifi and Bluetooth is installed properly under the Windows 8 environment.  On the desktop press the windows key + c, then click on settings, then click on control panel.  Under control panel switch to large icons for view and go to system.  Under system we will have device manager available.

Please check if you can see the category Bluetooth, and the wireless adapter under Network adapters category.  If they are present, go to the properties of wireless adapter and check if the driver version is the latest and if the drivers are installed properly.  The latest Bluetooth driver version for Windows 8 is 12.0.0.1671/8.0.0.206 released 10/24/2012. Here is the link for the drivers.  The latest Wireless driver version for Windows 8 15.5.0.42/6.30.59.26/10.0.0.67 released 10/24/2012. Here is the link for the drivers.

If the drivers are installed properly, then we have to check if we are able to turn on and off the bluetooth or the wireless adapter.  Hit Fn+F5 and see if an interface comes up that gives you radio buttons to turn off or turn on your wireless and bluetooth adapters.  If no interface comes up, you may need to install the Lenovo Energy Management program to enable the hotkeys for turning on bluetooth and the wireless. Here is the link for the Lenovo Energy Management program.

You must install the Windows 7 version of Lenovo Energy Manager for wifi or bluetooth to work.  The Windows 8 version does not allow you to use fn+f5.  Once you install the Windows 7 version, you can push fn+f5 and activate wifi or bluetooth.  There will be compatibility warnings, but it is the only way to turn on wifi and bluetooth at this time.  Do not reinstall the Windows 8 version until Lenovo updates the software, because you will eventually lose wifi or bluetooth again.  Also, you may need to use a program like Universal Extractor for the install files to extract properly. I hope this helps.  It took me lots of searching to find someone who figured this out.

Hi, I have a Z580 with an HDD that is going through a life ending experience. At the current time it does not boot. Although I have salveged most of the data off of it I would like to boot it one more time, in order to clone it. I have tried the repair tools, but they are not working. My repair disk relates to Windows 8 so that may explain why it is not working. I have access to the msdn Windows 8.1 install. I attempted to use that to do a reset, but the reset function provides the message that "the media inserted is not valid" even though this is the x64 version of the disk. I am at a loss how to proceed. Any suggestions? Given how well eveything has not worked so far, I am reticent to do a complete reinstall till I have the product key off the BIOS, but all the notes I find on this subject relate to running windows apps to obtain this, clearly something I cannot do right now.  In terms of replacing the HDD, can I simply clone the working hdd (assuming I get it to work) and then just replace, or is there anything else I need to worry about. I have gone through the forum but most of the discussion appears to relate to pre-windows 8.1 OS. Thanks

Answer:Z580 DyingHDD, windows 8.1

You should be downloading the Win 8.1 64 bit standard or home version.  Your product key should be automatically detected if the OS originally installed is Win 8.1.As to other thing to worry about is the OKR program. It may no longer work after the cloning process.

I have upgraded to windows 10 and my computer will not recognise my wireless network either through WiFi or ethernet cable. I have followed the solution on website but the troubleshooter doesn't recognise any problem and the manual solution doesn't recognise registry key Any suggestions?

Hello! I'm thinking about updating my laptop to 8.1. I already had some experience with RTM which was released on MSDN and it was pretty unstable, I had issues with power management, overheating and Bluetooth - all of these worked properly on 8. Is there anyone with Z580 (or similar) with 8.1 on it? I'd like to know if something improved since then.

Answer:Windows 8.1 on Z580 - opinions

I just upgraded to 8.1 It's nice to know that this big update released day after RTM fixes some stuff. Unfortunately, I still have issues with power management. It worked well on both 8, and Linux, but not here. I get only 4h of battery life and my discharge rate is constantly jumping between 10W and 20W - on 8 it was 7-12W. I think it could be an issue with GPU drivers, because I remember having 20W+ discharge rate when using NVidia GPU on Windows 8. Anyone else has this issue?
