BIOS Update for Z370 won't load

Question: BIOS Update for Z370 won't load

Hoping someone can help me with my IdeaPad Z370 that won't take the BIOS update that is on the Lenovo Website.
My system is running Windows 7 64 bit so I downloaded the BIOS update 4ACN38WW64.
When I run it from Windows after unzipping, it just flashes and goes away...if I run the AutoRun64.bat file from the DOS prompt I get:

Link to image

Not sure why it appers to not support my video card? My card is :

Anybody have any idea as to how I can get my system to update my BIOS?
Thanks in advance...

PS the reason I am trying to update my BIOS is because I am experiencing Demonic Possession of my keyboard. periodically my keyboard takes on a mind of its own and opens folders when I type keys instead of behaving like a keyboard...this makes me sad.

Preferred Solution: BIOS Update for Z370 won't load

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: BIOS Update for Z370 won't load

HIDidi you try running winphlash.exe to flash the bios? Do you get any error in that too?For the gpu, i suspect you have switched over to the integrated gpu. For reverting to the nvidia gpu, use the optimus switch which is on the right of the touchpad. Also see if it is graphic setting is set to optimus in bios.

Hi everyone. I wanted to update the BIOS a few days ago, so I downloaded the 4ACN38WW64 update from the Lenovo website. The problem is that when I execute the "installer" it closed automatically without any further message. I checked the batch file (AutoRun64.bat) and I found that there are three different updates (I assume for three different structures/variants of the z370/z470), also a line which closes the program in case it doesn't find any matching device to complete the updating process. I would really appreciate if someone could help me.

Normally deleting the partitions while doing the installation will do. However, since there is already Ubuntu installed you may have to find another way or remove it first.

Hello guys, i have a question. I want to enable SLAT/EPT (Extended Page Table) in my bios for virtualization, but i can t find it, my bios version is intel 2089 is there a update for my bios or something like this. (my cpu supports EPT intel i5).

Answer:Lenovo z370 BIOS question?

HiWelcome to the communityLenovo and many other manufacturers give limited options in the bios and that is the reason why you cannot find the setting you want to change. The only way to unlock all settings would be using an unlocked bios image which is not at all reccomended since it will void you warranty and can cause system instability.Regards

Hi, I ran the Lenovo update software and it updated my BIOS. After the restart - the computer wouldn't load. XP tries to load and then there is a brief sec where there is a blue screen (too fast to read what it says) and then the computer restarts again. When it was updating the BIOS it said it was creating a bios.bak file to backup the old BIOS - how do I revert back to the old BIOS? Currently in the setup screen it says that the BIOS version is 68ET35WW(V3.03) but I cannot start Windows.(safe mode doesn't work as well) Any help will be much appreciated.

Answer:Can't load XP after a BIOS update

Check your BIOS for an option called "AHCI controller working mode" or "SATA controller working mode" and revert it's settings.

Hi, a couple of days ago I let Lenovo Assistant perform four automatic updates, critical, as they were pointed ? three driver updates and the BIOS. As I noticed, the BIOS was updated with the help of BIOS update utility, the system restarted correctly and flashed the downloaded image. Now it?s shown in BIOS setup window to be a current version - GJET90WW UEFI BIOS, GJHT29WW ECP. Previously it was a version of 2.36 package. The system boots, but the OS (Win7 x64) stops loading on Win logo after this BIOS update. While loading is the safe mode it stops on classpnp.sysUnfortunately no other Win OS (Win XP, Win 8, Win 10) or pre-installation environment (win 8 PE, win 10 PE) could be loaded - the same problem. No way out except turning of the notebook with the power button (even pressing emergency reset button has no result). The system hangs.I've tried doing all the stuff with removing the internal and external batteries, extra memory, SSD, loading from USB with/without SSD, from external CD, rescue disks, forums of classpnp.sys load problems  etc. Except trying to load Linux.Besides, I?m unable to reset any previous version of BIOS with the help of BIOS Update Bootable CD (If the UEFI BIOS has been updated to version 2.40 or higher, it is no longer able to roll back to the version before 2.40 for security improvement)? Does anyone have an idea how to do?Thanks P.S.     SSD is ok, fortunately I?ve got my files from it on another P... I've got a Dell Dimension 8300 which came with XP pro.
After a HD crash in March, when I replaced the drive, and since I got it for free because I'd participated in the Beta testing, I installed VISTA Ultimate on the new HD.

However, what everyone and anyone failed to mention in this process was that you have to check to see if you're using the latest BIOS before installing VISTA.

"edward" from Microsoft said that all my problems concerning the system just freezing intermittently (requiring a hard reset every time) are because I need to update the BIOS (he gleaned this from MSINFO32 which he had me send to him.)

So I found a later version of the BIOS for this computer. However, Vista will not allow me to run it.

I continually get a message which says "Flash Access Denied....make sure you're logged in as an administrator" Which I am.
I tried going to the CMD "run as administrator" as well.

I tried turning off all the UAC controls from secpol.msc.

None of it works.

I just want to update the BIOS.

Edward then said...it's not gonna happen with Vista running PERIOD becuase it was supposed to be done prior to loading Vista.

I used the backup utility and have all non windows files backed up on another drive.
MS sent me a new XP SP2 disk with a new license key.

I wanted to install it on a different hard drive, however, Vista won't allow me to do that either.

Is there a way to use the command prompt to force the CD to l... Read more

Answer:Need to load XP just to update BIOS in VISTA

If it was meant to run XP, then that may the reason Vista is freezing. I tried Vista once and it also freezed alot. I blame it on the older hardware, just like your Dell cam with XP.

My model is Tecra A11-11N. I ran the BIOS update and some of my programs including ITunes, Nokia Ovisuite, VLC payer etc. are now not running. I tried to uninstall them and reinstall them but same problems.

Anyway to revert to pre update?

Answer:Tecra A11-11N - After BIOS update programs don't load now

Hi evangny,

I have also Tecra A11 in front of me and have installed newest BIOS version but this didn?t affect any installed programs. BIOS and installed programs are different.
What you can do is loading the default settings in BIOS after the update.

Can you be a little bit more detailed?
What happens exactly if you try to start these programs? Do you get an error message?

Do you use the preinstalled Windows version from Toshiba?

Ok so i decided i would update my BIOS as i saw there was a new BIOS available at the dell website

I have a Inspiron 1100 2.2Cel, 512 Ram, 30GIG
I had a A29 BIOS and was updating to A30, So i downloaded and started the BIOS update it starts installing and has to restart as it restarts all is fine till it gets to the windows splash screen and it comes up with a certain boot file is missing in system32 ( I didn't get chance to see the specifics as i wasn't expecting a problem) and then straight away it restarts so the BIOS didnt finish installing and from then on it simply just keeps restarting at the splash screen

So i thought i would try Safe mode but the same problem, I then try putting my XP cd in and repairing the windows but still no luck so then i went and instaled a second XP which is now working fine, which relieved a bit as the Computer parse is working just not the original Windows

I now have access to the other windows install to be able to put the missing files in, But my main concern is getting "My Documents" as i have a lot of college stuff which isn't backed up on my USB drive, And when i go to get access it comes up with access denied because it's private

I have tried This
still didnt help

Tried copying some system32 files from the fresh install to the old see if the file might missing might have been added but still no luck

I did a virus scan and the scanner was able to scan the files in the "My Docume... Read more

Any ideas on how I can fix this?

The laptop is a Toshiba satelite L300D

Hello

Well, if BIOS update crashed you can do nothing because the ROM module must be reflashed. This can only be done with special tools and only an authorized service provider has such tools.

So please contact nearest Toshiba service and ask for help :)

Laptop Medion MD40734 Same as FID2060 From ToysRUs & Aldi. Made about last 2 to 3 years I know off. This is a common problem when trying to upgrade XP with SP2. SP2 will load but then Windows XP will hang after restarting computer.
I have noted 5 people in UK and others outside UK with exact same problem.

MS SP2 Help at http://www.michna.com/kb/WxSP2.htm
They suggest removing SP2 then fix from MS help as follows http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=9b99c199-5d75-454f-ae07-b620727be8d8 then load SP2 again. When it fails again with same problem they suggest new BIOS. Medion new BIOS at http://www.medion.co.uk/ using AGP Interface Driver FID 2060
and use instructions given. If your drive is NFTS with only one partition (or not original format) you will have to disregard their instructions and copy file to a floppy or CD and run from there.
IT WILL NOT MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR BIOS even though it has it on screen when file open.

I strongly advise you do not use this BIOS update as it will probably cause lockup on loading on POST.

I saw somewhere you can load BIOS through DOS making a backup of BIOS as you load new updated BIOS. Not sure that if even if you did that you could reload old BIOS if all goes wrong.

Suggest forget SP2 until Medion get this sorted. You may end up needing new Motherboard.

Answer:Bios update doesn't work on Satellite - Cannot load PHLASHNT.sys

Hi Clemens,

PHLASHNT.SYS is the Phoenix NT flash driver which will be needed if you are updating a Phoenix BIOS. However, you don't say which model of Satellite notebook you are updating or which version of the BIOS update you are using (Windows or Traditional). Please post some more information so that we can try to help you with your problem.

Hello everyone, I updated my BIOS from 7FCN35WW to 7FCN96WW because the f4 key was always being registered as alt(or fn)-f4. After the update was done my resolution was stuck on a low resolution, so I updated my Intel graphic driver. The resolution went back after that,  but afterwards I noticed that the Nvidia Geforce graphic card wasn't found anymore. I don't know if it happened after the Intel update or the BIOS update because I didn't immediately check after the BIOS update, but I assume the BIOS. When I try to install the latest Nvidia driver it says that the Nvidia graphic card isn't found. I installed the Lenovo Solution center and it said that the "Intel(R) Xeon(R) processor E3-1200 v3/4th Gen Core processor PCI Express x16 Controller - 0C01" wasn't working correctly. The device status says roughly translated "Can't start this device because the configuration data in the register is incomplete or damaged (Code 19)" Does anyone know a solution for this or has the same problem? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Toshiba l300D wont load up after bios update fail

It doesn't sound like it is fixable on your end. Flash BIOSes that go bad, leave you with a doorstop. You'll hear the statement, "I bricked my computer". This means you turned your device into a brick also known as a doorstop.

You might want to post at a good BIOS site
http://www.wimsbios.com/forum/

People do send bricked computers off, have the BIOS chip desoldered and a new one soldered on. You might be able to get information on that type of service.

Maybe if you contact Toshiba, they will be able to tell you of some companies that do this.

When it is switched on, it gets stuck on the Samsung BIOS load screen. The F2 (Setup) and F4 (Recovery) buttons don't work unless they are pressed straight away. But when they are pressed it says 'Please Wait', but nothing happens.

I have changed the CMOS battery, but it hasn't helped.

Hello to the BleepingComputer community,First of all I'm sorry I haven't finished some of the steps from the Preparation Guide. It's because these steps require a reboot (e.g. Step 6: Disable your CD Emulation Software - DeFogger will ask me to reboot the machine), and I have a bad feeling about the question if it is safe to reboot in my situation: I'm not sure if I have a type of malware which is ready to infect the BIOS - if it is so, then it could infect it much easier during the reboot process.- If there is a good way to find out what is the problem (and fix the BIOS threat part if it really is present) without rebooting / shutting down this PC, or at least without booting from this hard drive (which I feel is probably infected), then please tell me what should I do.- If you know a place / forum where I can get a specialized help for this (seemingly BIOS-malware related) situation, please tell me where I could go.- If there is no way to move forward, I'll go ahead and risk the reboot, and follow the other steps (steps 6 to 10) in the Preparation Guide, no problem.I kindly ask you to please read below the details of the problem as it occured to me, and the things I have tried so far.The PC is AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core BE-2350 2.1GHz, Motherboard Biostar TA690G AM2 (with AWARD BIOS), 4GB RAM, 200GB SATA HDD, and an ASUS EAH4870 card added a few years ago. It's with WinXP SP3, AVG Free 2012, (standard) Windows Firewall, and it's behind a router.I ... Hi there again!

Now with a new and weird matter.

We all know that old say... "If it is not break, don't fix it". And if you put it into more informatic terms, "specially if it is a BIOS".

Yes, we all know that the BIOS is something quite dellitate to handle. For some reason we normally feel like if we were handling something like nitro-glycerine, or some radioactive product. And this is because we all know what is being put in risk in that moment: our (or sometimes others) computer, the full system could end as dead as some pieces of metal, plastic, and wires.

Well. I passed through all of that more than ten times in my life, and only once it went wrong. But since that old motherboard was already dead, It was not important. But I allways was EXTREMELY care. I allways cross checked everything before doing anything, allways got a backup and a way to restore that backup... and allways did this in COMPAQ systems, that were prepared that way. Updating a BIOS was just about preparing a disk, turn on the PC with the disk in the diskette drive, and wait. And if you didn't like the results, you simply click "return to previus BIOS" and that was it... very nice. And easy.

Few days ago, a friend brought me a Toshiba Satellite 1410-604 to solve some issues that were driving him crazy. After removing an expired Norton Internet Security, install avast and scan, I found more than one hundred files infected with a wide variety of virus, malware, t... Read more

Answer:Satellite 1410-604 - BIOS update > Incorrect BIOS update in the web?

Hi Fenix,

wow... it tooked very long time to read your post....

Maybe I can help you.

The Bios in the Web is the right one. So you have downloaded the correct version of the Bios.

The Askiris you have used is from Toshiba America which has most times not the exact models as Toshiba Europe.
That should be the reason, why the readme does not contain the European modelname.

I would try to make a fresh Bios update using the traditional Bios update.

Copy the files to the diskette, put it into the FDD, press and hold the Tab key while power on the notebook.
After the notebook has shut down, press and hold the key on the left side of the space-bar while power on the notebook again and wait until it powers off again.

If your notebook does not power on anymore, maybe the RAM is defect?

So, if the use of the traditional Bios and/or changing the memory does not help and your notebook is still dead you should go to an ASP, but this will cost money.

I have my fourth Toshiba notebook now and I had never problems with the Bios updates.

The 1410 is very old I think, so before going to an ASP, I would buy a new one ;)

best regards,

Maurice

My Samsung series 3 laptop has been sending out popup messages telling me I need a bios update, I go to the Samsung software update site and this bios update has been failing, I have made several calls and chats to techs at Samsung who tell me to do what I have already done, they tell to ask for tier 2 tech, who can go in my computer and fix it , When I finally got a tier 2 tech, they told me the same thing, I told him what I had been told about him and what he could do, He said, is it working , I said yes, but settings on computer change on their own, like wifi turns itself on and that concerns me. Anyway, He said that it didn't need a bios update, even the Samsung website said this computer needed a bios update. I posted this on hardware, firmware concerns, and they told me to post here, I was going to go to a site ,that had a download that checked drivers, I was told to stay away from this.

Thanks,
Jim

I just restored my x61 to original settings due to a problem with blue screens, and decided to update the BIOS right afterwards.  I followed the directions precisely and it installed all 21 of the individual components for this model.  I then shut down the computer and turned it back on this morning to continue loading software.  The system started with the fan running at high speed and stopped at the ThinkPad Screen.  However, nothing happened after pressing the ThinkVantage button and F1 or any other button for that matter.  I left it for a couple hours, but finally determined that I could not turn it off or do anything with the machine.  It just hung there.  I did finally remove the battery and replace it, and now there is no power registering when the machine is plugged in and it won't start. Is there something I can do to recover the system?  I suspect the answer is a board replacement.  The BIOS update failed in conjunction with something on my computer.  I am just 2 years into the warranty period in the US, so if I need to replace the board, what are the best options? Thanks for your help and comments....this is a very frustrating turn of events, since it is my work machine.

Update - 9/8/15

Fixed by reinstalling Windows fresh (Again).

I think the problem was caused by installing Windows linked with my Microsoft account and then switching that to a local user. My Microsoft account was registered for the insider program so perhaps I was receiving the fast updates and switching to a local account put me on slow updates which got Windows Update muddled in the confusion.

Original Post

Windows Update appears to be stuck/broken. It displays this loading animation even when left alone for an entire day (See screenshot). All the other panels such as Windows Defender will display their available options, it is only Windows Update that will not show.

This is a clean install of Windows 10 Home.

I have made some alterations to the service configuration, disabling what I had been advised as unnecessary services. I have reverted as many of those changes as I could remember but it is a possibility that one of those changes caused this.

Background Intelligent Transfer service is "Running" and set to "Automatic (Delayed Start)".
Windows Update service is "Running" and set to "Manual (Trigger Start)".

8 Aug 15 - Edit: I have cross referenced services with another computer with an unaltered fresh install of Windows 10 Home. No difference in service configuration was found.

Internet connectivity is stable. Network profile is "Public". No alterations have been made to the default network configuration.

Hello

My last BIOS update has failed and now my laptop Satellite PrU400 PSU45E is out of order.
I want to use the Crisis Recovery Disk with an USB floppy drive but I don't know the key combination to run the boot-block.
Is anybody can help me?

Hi

I wondering what Crisis Recovery Disk do you have ?:|
In my experience the special disk is needed which is available only for ASP technician.
Therefore it?s necessary to contact the ASP in your country in order to reflash the BIOS.

In my opinion you shouldn?t not try any ?Crisis Recovery disks? which you fond in the net? this can lead to mobo damage?

The same issue from BIOS 1.2.5 is happening with BIOS 1.2.6. After the update, the boot screen remain totally black (no Dell logo) and you cant enter in the BIOS interface (no video at all).
The workaround is to downgrade to BIOS version 1.2.3
The windows boots as usual, and maybe this is the reason that users havent noticed this issue.
The bios upgrade/downgrade is automated. No mouse clicks are needed. Just wait computer to boot and wait some minutes. After this (blind) downgrade (because there is no video), you will see the dell logo once again and everything works as usual.

Whilst updating the BIOS the system froze at step 7 of replacing the BIOS code, needless to say the laptop will not boot as the BIOS is now corrupt.

I have the BIOS.BAK but need advice on how to restore the BIOS. I copied the BIOS.BAK to a usb stick and plugged this into the laptop and then powered on the system (I've tried holding down F, F2 and together). I can see that the usb stick flickers initially but clearly does not progress with the restore.

I hope someone might be able to advise how to use the BIOS.BAK file to restore the BIOS.

Well, I have used the BIOS updater listed on the drivers/bios updates section of Toshiba website, on Windows vista x64 and offcourse I have used the x64 executable.
Strangely, when I reboot it, it requests a bios password that I have never inserted. So I suppose the update inserted a password automatically. Now I can't boot from any device so I cant use the laptop.

What do you have to say about this?

Answer:After Vista x64 BIOS update Satellite A200-1KB PSAE6 requests BIOS password

Have you founded some answers? Nobody offered here real explanation what can be wrong there. Have you maybe contacted authorized service partner in your country. They have contact with Toshiba and I am pretty sure they can help you about that.

Hello All,
3 days ago I applied the latest bios update to my 1-year old XPS15, running latest and fully patched 64 bit Windows 10 public release.
Since then
A) plugin a rather simple USB-3 hub into the system prevents the laptop from Booting into BIOS, or if manages to do that
B) plugin said USB-3 hub after full windows boot, freezes both USB ports devices.  The unfreeze can be overcame by unplugging the hub and then other device and then re-pluging both
C) after step B, windows explorer becomes very unstable and does not even show all the folder contents to some programs "open file" function.
D) the system does not recover anymore from plain S3 sleep, triggering a windows hard reboot.
I'm afraid the bios option to roll-back the bios version was not active, so I'm stuck.
Finally, the latest Intel diver published at the same time does not install cleanly after the bios update (although I managed to get it to show in the "program files" section.
I always apply the latest updates for drivers and bios promptly as main security policy and so far the system has behaved very well (Maybe with the exception of Hibernation from sleep time out, which always has been a bit faulty)

Hi All ! Excuse my poor english because i'm french.

A friend gives me his Notebook (a Satellite 4090CDS exactly) because he had a probleme.
In fact, the problem is that when I switch on the computer, i have one and only one message(not even the red toshiba logo) which is "Ready for BIOS update. Place the BIOS update diskette in the drive, and press any key when ready to proceed."

So I go on french toshiba website, in the BIOS download, i find that i have to download this update: http://support.toshiba-tro.de/tools/bios/satellite/4030-4060-100/bios_820.zip

Ok, i download and unzip it to a diskette and i boot the notebook with the disjette, it said that the update was made successfully and automatically reboot.
This time, the red toshiba logo appears, but next i have a black screen with a message:

**** Bad check sum (CMOS) ****
Check system. Then press [F1] key.

And after that, i can't do anything, not even press F1. If i reboot the notebook, i meet myself one more time with the first message "Ready for BIOS update..." and it is still and still the same.

If anyone could help me to understand what is the problem, it would be very nice.
Thanks.

Bastien.

Answer:Satellite 4090 BIOS issue - "Ready for BIOS update..." message appears

It sounds as if your CMOS chip has a problem. It?s possible that the CMOS battery has failed and your BIOS settings are being lost.
Maybe the RTC battery is empty. In this case you should plug the AC adaptor to charge the RTC battery.
Please note that the RTC battery (CMOS battery) will charge after the notebook main battery was fully charged. In this case the charging procedure could take several hours.

But if after this long charging procedure this message appears again so I assume the battery is dead.
I suggest you contact your nearest ASP to get your notebook checked.

Hello, Problem 1:I've set the supervisor password some time ago on my T450s. I think I used the special character "!" which was accepted at that time, but I'm not sure anymore today. Now after severeal BIOS updates the "!" only leads to a beep of the system and I also tried all of my standard-passwords without "!" , but without success. Problem 2:Now I've tried to roll back to older BIOS versions to try if one of these accepts the "!". But every version I tried leads to a "secure flash authentication failed"-error after the reboot of the laptop to actually flash the BIOS. The following link says its the Rollback Prevention Enabled, but I checked in BIOS and it's clearly disabled.https://support.lenovo.com/sg/de/solutions/ht117858 Now I have no idea how to proceed. Has anyone seen that the BIOS has accepted special characters like "!"?Are there other T450s which are not able to rollback to older BIOS versions with the above mentioned error? Technical Infos:- Model: ThinkPad T450s 20BW-S03E00 (the one with Intel graphics only and a core i5-5200)- BIOS: 1.29(JBET65WW) Thanks in advance!  Best regards,Linus123

hi nihtkin,

Welcome to the Lenovo Community.

Can you try to reseat your RAM (see page 41 of the hardware maintenance manual on how to access the RAM). If you have two RAM modules, remove 1 module and leave one intact and try to turn the PC ON. This isolate the issue if you have a bad RAM module. If this doesn't work, there's a posibility that there's a problem with the the power board cable, the power board, or the mobo itself and you need to send the unit in for service. Support phone list here

Hope this helps.

Question: Z370 freezes

Dear Community, my Z370 (4 months old) freezes from time to time for a few minutes. It doesn't shutdown and theres no bluescreen. I just can't use it, everything freezes and the music sounds like a walkman with an empty battery. After a few minutes (1 to 4 minutes mostly) it's like nothing happened.I can't reproduce the freeze but it's mostly when the laptop is handling a lot of data (downloading while watching a movie and browsing simultaneously). Doesn't happen when it's idling. I'm using it with an external monitor, mouse and keyboard an it's running on Win7 Pro. My XPS 15 9550 laptop received a Dell update notification to install BIOS 1.5 about 3 days ago.  I did the update and it initially appeared to succeed.  Today I rebooted the laptop for the first time since updating, and it failed to restart.  It does not POST or show the BIOS screen.  The power light illuminates when pressed, and goes out when pressed again (after a short delay). The keyboard illumination comes on while the power button is lit. Other than that, there is no sign of life. If I power on with the 'D' key pressed, the screen does show the color-flashing LCD test.
The symptoms are exactly as described in this thread from May: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/20013272, exactly.  I did all the same diagnostic steps listed there, and got absolutely identical results at each step. The BIOS recovery proposed there also failed identically for me.
The final message in that thread seemed to state that it was a motherboard failure.  It's just too much of a stretch that my motherboard would fail in the exact same manner, immediately following a BIOS update (unless you classify a corrupt BIOS as a motherboard failure?).
What other steps can I take to clear and reload my BIOS, if the USB stick with BIOS_IMG.rcv and Ctrl-Esc-PowerPlug recovery method never succeeds?

Toshiba 5205 - Serviceman / Call Bios - Need some help.

I flashed my bio's and the laptop locked up in windows and didn't shut off after the flash.

Now when I turn the laptop on, I get no picture and the front of the laptop has a remote lcd display that says: Serviceman / Call BIOS.

I have already remove the laptop's battery and let it sit a full day to killthe bios, but I get the same error and still no picture.

How can I fix this? The bio's should be dead by now. Am just using the ac-power pack for power. I tryed plugging the battery pack back in and I have also put the bio's battery back in. and I get the samething error message on the remote lcd.

There must be a way to get around this, if anyone knows please let me know.

Answer:Satellite 5205 - After Bios update - Serviceman / Call Bios message

Hi Jim,

Unfortunately removing the battery will not reset your BIOS. The BIOS is maintained by a separate battery on your motherboard (the CMOS or RTC battery) and you will need to dismantle your notebook to access this battery. Even removing the CMOS battery will not reset your BIOS since it will be held in a non-volatile area of the CMOS chip.

You will need to take your notebook to a Toshiba Authorised Service Agent to have the chip reflashed with a new BIOS.

Do you see the Toshiba logo?

Was there a power failure when you updated the BIOS?

Try removing the battery and AC Adapter, and leaving it for a couple of hours. You could also try reseating the RAM.

If that doesn't help, you may need to send it to an Authorized Service Center for repair.

Hello all -      I've done a lot of reasearch on this and have not found the solution. It all started when I tried to access BIOS, and I cannot. I've tried the lenovo button, F2, F1, delete, etc and none take me to BIOS, they all just boot windows 8.1. I tried pulling the battery, holding down the power button and booting back up, still no dice. I haven't tried Fn+F2 yet, I just read that one this morning.      I found the BIOS update on the website, attempted to follow the instructions and the 'public' file I click on opens the BIOS flashing utility and starts reading the BIOS and then stops with the error 'winflash64.exe has stopped working' and says 'exits with error 255'. Nothing seems to work. I found one post that suggests that I could need to disable DEP to make it run? I haven't tried that yet because it wasn't for this same laptop. What is the difference between the 'public' and the 'private' files? I have also read that the 'private' file will work, but I don't want to do it out of order. Do I need to do both?? Hi

Like a complete idiot I upgraded my bios (to 1.80) for Satellite A30 (PSA30E). I've noticed two problems.

a) during boot I no longer get any welcome screen, and cannot access the bios or boot from other devices - so if I want to boot from CD now I can't - e.g. impossible to reinstall OS in the future

b) the battery suddenly wasn't fully charged and hangs persistently on 99% (apparently)

c) who knows what else could be going wrong

I'd dearly love to undo what I've done, but it doesn't seem possible. How on earth do I fix this, since clearly the bios update is flawed. Can I find an earlier bios update file (and how to use it)? Can I fix this one?

Anyone any thoughts?

David

Answer:Bios update Satellite A30 - can't access bios and no full charge light

Hi

Firstly may to ask why you have updated the BIOS. If everything works the BIOS update is not necessary.

Ok, how did you try to access the BIOS? Usually the F2 button should be pressed immediately after notebook starting. You can try to press several times.

But you can boot from ODD on different ways. You can press C button and the notebook will activate the booting from the drive or you will press F12 and you will choose the ODD as booting source.

I don?t know why the battery power freezes at 99% but you could try to remove the battery and wait several times. Then connect it again and check the battery status.

Hello everyone! I ama new user and i am coming up with this post as I couldn`t find any kind of solution for my problem.Recently I decided to do a reinstallation of my operating system, which also previously was Windows 7 Ultimate (x64). The installation went as usual, and after finishing it I went on to install all the latest drivers from the Lenovo site, for my product. When getting close to installing almost all the drivers i`ve needed, i stumbled upon a new version of the BIOS amnd the drivers and sfotware recommended for my laptop, by the producer. So i proceeded to install the upgrade, restarted the computer when it prompted me to do so, but after the so-called restart the laptop did not boot up as usual. At first it was telling me to not do anything as the BIOS is being flashed and then it was telling me something about some sort of image processing, things that i did not understand at the time (i have never encountered anything like that). I updated from A19 to A22 and even back down to A19 on my OptiPlex 755...  Now it skips lines when I try to change settings in BIOS or when I boot to a DOS USB drive it double types letters.  Never happened before until after this update.  I ran into this a few years ago and I know its a simple fix, but I can't seem to remember what I did.  It does not happen in Windows 7.  I've swapped the keyboard, etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

After building the IOS install disk and running the Phoenix Phlash16 utility I get the following message "File has different BIOS part number".

The utility is using the following image file MW10M520.ROM.

Any input is appreciated,

Answer:Satellite A205-S4629 BIOS Update Fail - File has different BIOS part number

Hi

As far as I know the BIOS package downloaded from the Toshiba US driver page contains the WinRAR 32-bit self-extracting ZIP file which includes both Windows-based and diskette based BIOS update installation options.

Did you try to update the BIOS using Win-based BIOS?

What OS do you use?

I can't get into the bios anymore. I updated the bios via the BIOS Update Utility 2.56 and after that I can't see the "press enter to interupt normal startup" message anymore. And therfore can't get into the bios. Windows is still booting normally.  Any ideas?

Solved!

Answer:T430s bios doesn't show press enter to interupt normal startup after bios update

I found one way to enable it again temporarly: "One way to do it is to use the advanced restart facility in windows 8.  To do this open up the "modern" UI settings (Win-C then choose settings-->change PC settings), go to the general page, scroll down to the bottom and you'll see an option for "Advanced Startup".  If you click the Restart now button and then choose to restart on the page you get offered as the PC powers down, it should let you enter the BIOS." But as soon as windows 8 is booted again the enter message will disapear again.  Any ideas on how to make this permanent?  Thanks

Hi. I have a Lenovo B50-30 mode 80ES. It was set to require a password on startup starting with a capital "A". While experiencing charging problems, amongst other things, I updated the BIOS to 9CCN35WW, downloaded from the Lenovo support site. Since updating, the laptop no longer asks for a password on startup (No big deal, I applied a windows password), however, when pressing F2 to access the BIOS (which I need to do, the F keys are the wrong way round), it asks for a password, When pressing to strike a capital A, the laptop beeps and doesnt enter it. It wont accept capital letters anymore, therefore it wont accept the pre BIOS update password. I have referred the laptop to Lenovo service, including returning the laptop, and they have been nothing short of useless. They said they couldnt repair it under warranty because of "Marks, cracks, inappropriate treatment" and it would cost £255 for a replacement system board. I really couldnt see why I should pay for an issue created by their support system, so I asked them to return it unrepaired. Upon arrival, the laptop was immaculate, so I dont know what damage they were referring to. Is it possible to downgrade the BIOS to a pre update revision, to change the password and then reset it to one the new BIOS approves of? Thankyou in advance.

Hi, I have updated with WINPHLASH the bios of my 6075-BQU with the latest bios available (2RKT64AUS) and every thing work well during the propcess... But when I reboot an error occur -> #0167: No processor BIOS update foundFollow by: Press F1 to setup, F2 to resume* Error Boot Sequence will be taken if no selection is made. I have try to see what was wrong in the bios section, the only thing that I found is that there is no processor number  and the date is missing, these two fields are in blue and cannot change it or I didn't find the way to do it????  Also I am not anymore able to boot on CD,  even if I force the setting in the bios.It seems that the Bios do not keep the change I do even after an exit with F10. It always come back with is default setting. Can someone you tell me what is wrong an how I can fix that problem. Thanks NOTE:Before the update the BIOS was at level 2RKT28AUS

Answer:BIOS problem - 0167: No processor BIOS update found

This is a very odd outcome to a BIOs update. Did you upgrade the processor at anytime? (Your machine should contain a Core 2 Duo Processor E6550)Did you update the BIOs through the operating system? If so I would download the "Flash BIOS update (CD ISO image version) " (The 3rd file down in the list of available BIOs updates for your machine) and re-flash your BIOs from the CD. Flashing the BIOs from within Windows has a history of erratic behavior.

Hi

I'm having trouble flashing my bios.
I have a Satellite Pro L40-15A.

The Toshiba winflash tool that comes with the bios file tells me that the 'Old BIOS can't recognise EEPROM'

I was recommended to use AFUDOS on another forum but that tells me the bios has an invalid boot block.

AMI flas for dos tells me the flash rom is write-protected??? There is no option in bios to disable it and I don't think anyone would be dumb enough to put a hardware Bios protect jumper on a laptop.

Please help

Thx

Can you please tell me what you want to do and please explain to us your steps to update BIOS on your Satellite Pro notebook?

I have done BIOS update over 20 times last month and I am really wondering what you want to say with terms like EEPROM or AFUDOS. Which BIOS update version you want to use? I presume 5.10. am I right?

I am having trouble figuring out what to rename the BIOS file. I have read so many posts that I can't get clear on it.

I'm going from something like post #3 in this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-compaq/304332-cq45-insyde-bios-recovery-using-usb-thumbdrive.html
At least we know there should be some form of recovery possible using the <windows key> and <b key>.

Your BIOS update has two files in it and shortening them to four letters is simple but using a tool provided by one of those BIOS forums it gives five possible names for each of the two BIOS files included in the softpaq. The five names are the same for each of the two files which is what has me confused. HP doesn't give the manufacturer's name for your motherboard which makes it more difficult. Hi

Does your Laptop work ok at present? if it does then do not update the BIOS as its likely not needed, BIOS updates are only needed to fix specific issues, like update in Windows say Windows 8 if the said laptop was a XP/Vista based one, to hardware.

BIOS updates to my ThinkPad T460p seem to have been fine, up until going from 2.19 to 2.20.  Upon trying to upgrade to 2.20, I get the following message:  I cannot boot from USB key, I get the same issue.  This includes attempting with an older BIOS like 2.18; the same error message occurs even when not in Windows. Is there a way to force-flash the BIOS to get it back on track or is there some option I can try?  I only have a few remaining days left on my warranty, so I don't have much time left to open a support case if there's nothing else I can do other than replace the mainboard.

Answer:T460p BIOS update fails; "The BIOS does not match this system"

Call support.  Whatever happens, you should get the issue documented while the system is under warranty.  In U.S., the number is 1-800-426-7378

Hi

Traditional BIOS update cannot be downloaded.
Only Win-based BIOS is available on Toshiba European driver page.

In your case you will need to get in contact with an local ASP!
The technician could help you and could reflash the BIOS using an BIOS crisis disk.

What was your BIOS version before the flashing? (BIOS version compatibility)

If it was a 1.x version you can only flash with another 1.x version, if it was a 2.x version you can only flash with another 2.x version.
If your system shipped with Windows 7 and you upgraded to Windows 8 you cannot use the ones marked "Not for Ugrades"

If you are unable to reflash you will need to contact the Acer Technical Support in your area for options.

I have a HP pavilion dv6-2020EV Note book.
I downloaded an update for Bios "sp50586.exe" from Hp site an extract it. after that a program (Insyde Flash V 3.80.00) Loaded and I pushed start button.
after some time I made mistake an pushed my notebook Power Button. The note book became shutdown and now I see only Black screen.

I performed some actions with HP online guide like pushing Power button for above 1 minute, removing Coin battery, Connecting notebook to another monitor and even removing Hard Disk. I get no reply from machine.

Now the power LED is on, and I can hear sound of DVD Rom when I put a Disc in it. But I can see only Black screen.
also I tried to load Recovery disc of the note book but it could not be loaded.

Would you please Help me. I have no solution. I lost my notebook.

Answer:BIOS FAIL dv6-2020ev:black screen after Bios update

How did HP end the service call-did they offer any further solutions?

Can you direct me to the support page for your model? I can only find it at HP India using Google cache--the actual website seems to be offline. [I want to double check that they were recommending the sp50586 for that model.]

Also, is there a longer model number on the tag on the bottom of the laptop? It might be useful for finding others who have experienced the problem. [There appears to be a BIOS recovery flash option that might work but it is important to have the right version of the BIOS to attempt it.] Since that update is so new there are not many people experiencing the same problems. Your laptop has an Intel processor?

I removed battery and destroyed the rubber on the bottom. I had to open the laptop, because one morning I got the massegae that my laptop is overheated and fan does not work properly. Both fans works only during the lounch, when windows works only one fan was in operations, second one never starts again. Looking for the solution in the internet I have found that this can be because of BIOS is not updated.  I pushed F2, checked the the system, everything is fine and then I installed only one version which I have found there. No massages regarding overheating any more, both Fans are working full power and very very loud. Hello all, this is my first time posting here so please forgive any mistakes/oversights. I've just updated my Samsung laptop's system BIOS via their software update program, and my Nvidia GPU (GT 650m DDR3) no longer seems to work. The Nvidia control panel is still there, and it still gives me the option to select which programs use the GPU, but there is no GPU actitivity showing up. Also,I've tried playing Skyrim (which auto-detects the PC's graphics cards) , and the game no longer seems to detect the Nvidia GPU (just the Intel integrated graphics).

My laptop model is NP550PC7, with 6 gig of ram, and an i7 quad core CPU, and the OS is Window 7 Home Premium 64bit.

I've tried looking in the BIOS but I can't seem to find anything related to the GPU or display options. Any help or avice is much appreciated.

Answer:Problems with Nvidia gpu post BIOS system BIOS update.

Hi,

Have you updated your GPU with the latest drivers?

http://www.geforce.co.uk/drivers

Please navigate to:

Start> Control panel> Swith to icon view> device manager.
Look under "Display Adapters"

Is the Nvidia GPU listed there? If so are there any yellow symbols etc?

Hi,

I have a old Tecra 9100 with years of good service, and this is my first problem, but is a great one, after a forced reboot the screen shows a BIOS block 1 damaged message. I have tried to repair the BIOS upgrading to the last version I have found, the 1.6 one, but its a Windows version (to upgrade from a running Toshiba computer I think) and when I try to run it in another computer to generate a FDD and upgrade BIOS, I cant, beacuse a Toshiba common modules message.

Its there any BIOS diskette image-archive I can dowload to perform the BIOS upgrade in the BIOS?

Thanks in advance.

All you can find is stuff on Toshiba support page. I don't know where you live but try to contact nearest Toshiba authorized service provider.
They have access to Toshiba database and they can obtain all this for you. Make a call and ask for help. I am pretty sure they will help you to solve this BIOS issue.

Could be any one of a number of things, but last week that exact problem happened to my son's PC. Turned out the PSU fan kept stopping owing to a faulty circuit in the PSU. I fitted a new PSU and that did the trick.Don't mean to sound patronising, but PSU means "Power Supply Unit", the metal box that sits inside one corner of the system case with all the various connector wires coming from it.

I was using my laptop on friday - everythign was going fine.Tried to turn it on Saturday evening and i get a horrible burning smell and the fan whirr. I clipped off the screen cover out of interest and found the LCD ribbon ribbon had burned through. This is something I couldn't have caused through normal use. This defect is clearly a fire hazzard and is most likely a manufacturing fault. I rang Lenovo in Dublin after the explaination of my problem, I was immediately given another number to ring with no direction and no help. I rang that 1890, they too were unhelpful and said there is no record of my laptop existing, then passed me to another number. Hi All, I've been using this Lenovo Z370 for a two years, I've not faced this issue earlier. But, a few days on I've been facing an issue of the key numerical '1' on the keypad is continuously pressing by itself.Even, I had done some self troubleshooting things also, but still It is still persisting .Please provide pointers on this. With Regards,Rajesh Gurrala.

Answer:Z370-Key 1 is Pressing by itself continuously.

hi Rajesh,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

From your description, it looks like the number one key is stucked. It's possible that there's something pressing the key down or if not, the key might be already showing signs of wear & tear (this could happen if you press the key alot (like in games).

What you can try is to carefully follow the guides below on how to fix the stucked key:

If the problem remains, you may need to replace the key or the entire keyboard.

The wifi on my Z370 has stopped working.  The laptop run out of battery and switched off, then when I restarted it soometime later the wifi had stopped working.  The troubleshooter just says that the switch on the front isn't turned on, which it is.  Function F5 says that both wifi and bluetooth are turned off and I can't turn them on there.  I tried booting from an Ubuntu CD and the wifi din't work there either. I suspect the wifi card has died.  Does anyone have any other ideas about things I should try?  If not, are there wifi cards which are black/white listed for the Z370, or will any replacement card work?  Many thanks!

Answer:Z370 wifi not working

Once the battery is fully charge, can you try loading the default settings in the bios?
