I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've had my lenovo z580 for a little more than two years. The cap sensor keys control the volumne (mute, volume down, volume up), one key theater, and dust cleaner (thermal management). When I press on the sensor with my fingers, they do not work. This issue existed for two to three months, as I sent in my computer to have it's shell replaced (the physical case). The case was replaced but cap sensors stopped working. Now, all the sensors except the one key theater will dim and bright up, sometimes increase/decreasing or muting the volume, and worst of all, launching dust cleaning every so often. How can I correct this issue?

Hi, I have Lenovo Z580 with i5-3210m processor, 2gb nvidia gt 630m, 8gb ram, 128 + 500(sdd+hdd) So yesterday when i was playing Cod - Ghosts my gpu temp reached over 90 degrees(hwinfo64 monitoring) and kept playing for couple hours. Then the next time i run hwinfo64 it couldn't monitor gpu temp. I tried speedfan and cpu-z still nothing. I thought that the gpu sensors were broken. Then i run Msi Afterburner and there it's monitoring gpu temp. So how can Msi can monitor my gpu temp when others can't? Is the gpu sensor damaged? Help please!

Hi, I purchased the ideapad Z580 about a month ago and i have noticed a few times now that the volume up sensor button suddenly stops working and just works fine the other times. The rest of the sensor buttons, including the volume down have no such problem. Has anyone else faced similar issue?? I contacted technical support and they said that it  looks like a hardware problem to them and so I might have to send my laptop down to them for repairs, which will take them 7 days for  it to be returned to me. ( No replacement since it's more than 21 days old). If anyone has faced a similar issue earlier and if it was resolved by a reset or a driver reinstal please let me know. Thank you.

Windows XP SP2 installed on a formatted drive on a Portege 2000 previously set to run Win 2000 from factory.
After installation all the downloads for WinXP available from the Toshiba site were added.
The Toshiba special keys for browser and Toshiba console now don't work and the lid sensor
to get the computer in standby or hibernate when the lid is closed aren't working.
It will hibernate if you hit Function f4. The XP which was installed didn't come from Toshiba.
Help?? Thanks much.

Answer:Portege 2000 - Lid sensor/special keys don't work after XP install?

Hi

The fact is that the Toshiba power saver controls the hibernation and standby mode.
There you can configure this option.
As far as I know the closing lid option you can set only to standby, power off or no action. You cannot set it to hibernate.
In the power saver you have to use the details button. In the ?system power mode? you can configure this action.

I accidentally spilled a little bit of soda on my keyboard a few days ago, and now I've got some lovely sticky keys that are driving me bonkers.  I know in most keyboard, you can just pull keys out, then click them back in after cleaning them. But I have no idea on this model, because I am aware that sometimes keys cannot be put back on some keyboards. So before I start pulling away, I want to make sure. I have looked all over the place and cannot find a simple answer. - - I just need a yes/no.

Answer:Z580 ideapad: Are keys removable?

Hi Eliatrope ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Technically Z580 keys are removable so it is a yes.

Keyboard specification and here ( page 28 ):
Full-size keyboard, 6-row, multimedia Fn keys, recovery key6 Row QWERTY (Standard) Full Keyboard
FRU list page 94 - 121 as sample part

Hardware manual don't offer specific key removal guide as entire board is replaced but some party would offer individual key repair such as here and here .

Take time to review the highlighted links first  and as usual technician practice , to try it with one NON commonly used key .

Hope this help answer your query.

HI,I have a T500 (LENOVO 2081CTO ThinkPad T500) running W7 32 bit.  Been working fine since September 10.  Today when simply trying to logon the fingerprint sensor has stopped working.  Laptop had not even been moved, simply resting on desk and then switched on from powered off.A few times since have received message that "USB device is being installed"  with finally "USB Device could not be installed.  There is a problem with your device."  Device Manager showed a problem with "USB Composite device"Powered off/on gave same symptom.Downloaded & installed latest fingerprint software 7wf162ww.exe.  Installed OK.  USB device appeared to then automatically pick up and reinstall correctly.  BUT still unable to use fingerprint to logon or for with Thinkvantage Client Security.Using Thinkvantage Lenovo Fingerprint Software gives error "Cannot communicate with sensor.  Please confirm the sensor is ready."   I've also noticed the keyboard around the fingerprint sensor is very warm, almost hot.  As if it is being constantly turned on? Fingerprint sensor is AuthenTec Inc. Did you check if this option is located in the Protector Suite QL application?
Possibly it?s a part of this software.

Where did you find this program and was this application preinstalled on the Toshiba recovery image?

I got my thinkpad W530 yesterday, and found it had no color sensor. A lady in technical support department told me W530 should have the color sensor. But when I called the Lenovo Sales Department, I was told W520 has the color sensor, but W530 does not. Will the color sensor be important  when color calibration is being done?Any input is greatly appreciated.

It is useful, especially if you use your computer for Photoshop, etc.  You can also buy an external color sensor. More at:http://forum.notebookreview.com/lenovo-ibm/626243-thinkpad-w520-color-sensor.html PS: Some W530 models will have the"Pantone® color calibrator by X-Rite® color calibration sensor in palm rest, LED indicator"

Answer:z580 - Which password to use if laptop is in safe mode ideapad z580 ?

hi akshu_13,

Welcome to the Forums.

If you're running on Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1, you should use the same password that you've set on your account.

If you're running on Windows XP, by default, you will see an additional Administrator account and the password is set to none. If you'll be using your own account and not the Administrator one then you should use the same password like in normal Windows.

Note:
Windows 8/8.1 can use a Microsoft Account and a Local Account. If you boot in Safe Mode only (not Safe Mode with Networking), you won't be able to use the Microsoft Account login as it requires internet access to verify your credentials, thus, you will need to use a Local Account.

Let me know if this helps you out.

I have tried a few different windows images, windows troubleshooting feature, and the latest versions of the drivers.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, disabling and re-enabling, re-imaging, updating windows. None have had the effect of actually making it work. I'm running win 10.0.10240, on dell latitude 5285 and 5289. This is affecting the entire Intel Integrated Sensor Solution Driver and all the included sensors, compass, accelerometer, gyroscope GPS and ambient light.

As the title says, just wondered if theres any lenovo software the works with the z580 ? lenovo companion on windows 8 offers some stuff but its listed as u series ect ? cheers for replys inadvance, mike

Answer:(z580) Just wondered what lenovo software will work with the z580 ?

hi mikee77,

The Lenovo Z580 comes with these lenovo pre-installed apps:

Lenovo OneKey RecoveryLenovo OneKey TheaterLenovo Cloud Storage by SugarSyncLenovo Energy ManagementLenovo Companion

The Lenovo Companion is like an app store the features:

Third-Party Apps and Ads
Lenovo products, Tutorials, Application showcases, Lenovo accessories information, Lenovo Cloud, and a link to Lenovo blogs and articles

Most apps listed on the Lenovo Companion will work on the Z580 as long as it meets the system requirements (i.e. If an app is made only for Touchscreen models, then you will need to get the non-touchscreen version or if there's a Utility app that senses temperature on a specific model, make sure Z580 is on the supported models).

I set up my brand new W700 with the fingerprint software and all my prints and it worked beautifully.  Then 2 days later my Lenovo external keyboard with fingerprint sensor arrived, I connected it and it couldn't find that sensor with the lid closed on my W700.  I did the updates and installed that Keyboards driver and it eventually worked.  Then I disconnected from my docking station, took the laptop on the road and it told me, the W700 integral fingerprint sensor could not be found. Lenovo support was rather unhelpful, telling me it was my "software" issue.  Their eventual suggestion was a total re-install, which I did because according to them, they don't support Windows XP Service Pack 3.  So, after the rebuild and re-install, I had the internal fingerprint sensor working, and when I re-docked it, the external sensor worked.  I have subsequently undocked the machine and I am back to where I started with a brand new machine that can not find it's internal fingerprint sensor at logon or when I go to ThinkVantage, yet it did ask for a fingerprint swipe for my email password and it accepted it! I know it's there, it's not damaged and I know it works, but Lenovo says it's a software issue, not a hardware one, yet the only hardware I have is theirs and their software drivers!  Any suggestions?

Answer:W700 Fingerprint Sensor Not found after External Keyboard w/Fingerprint sensor is connected

What is the FRU number on the external keyboard w/ FPR you purchased?  I can lookup the FPR vendor from it.
I suspect that the internal FPR and the external FPR are two different vendors requiring two different drivers that are not compatible.

Hello.
I'm a Windows 7 user and a few months ago, I've changed my laptop's keyboard (hardware) into a new one because some keys were malfunctioned. At first, everything seems fine but soon the keys started to going crazy. Some keys turned to shortcut keys (like opening a new window, open the control panel, etc) or freezed the screen . I don't know whether this got to do with malware or because it has a conflict with other program. After I changed to that new keyboard, I uninstalled some programs, bought and downloaded Microsoft Office 2016 and Malwarebytes Premium 3.0. The problem getting worse so I decided to restore the system. At first, it worked well but later, the same problem came back again. After googling for some help, I found out that my windows key is always stuck (though it seems didn't stuck physically) whenever I open the on-screen keyboard. So I downloaded SharpKeys to disable/turn off the windows key and I confirmed that the key didn't stick on the screen keyboard anymore. But, 'magically', my problem hasn't solved yet. Sometimes, the short keys pop up randomly when I type the key sigh I have to restart my laptop a few times to make it better.
Help me please...:(

Having the fingerprint Windows sign on is nice, but so far I see no other references to using this sensor to validate sign-on into websites, etc.    Is the fingerprint sensor here only good for one function, Windows sign-on?   If not, how do I set up the sensor to be used with other apps and web browsers?

So I did, but shortly after the installation has finished I realized that the login with fingerprint, respectively the fingerprint function in general, does not work anymore with Windows 10 so this function which I actually paid for became useless.I tried installing HP ProtectTools etc.. but I couldn't find anything for my Notebook model. Also my hotkey for birightness and mute key are not working, i have download the drivers and it aint works.Sometimes i face no voice when i plug headphones. Also i sometimes face that my system shows some graphical lines when i turn my sytems that seems LCD issue, dont know why i am facing these issues with windows 10. When i connect my phone to the USB port, and the lid put down after sometime it aint strat my laptop. Then i have to remove and plug again the battery to start work. Is anyone having the same problem with this model, or is there any solution? Please help

Hi, I have an almost new ENVY 17-j150la Leap Motion SE  laptop, which was running Windows 8.1 64-bit without a problem.  Few days ago I updated it to Windows 10 Pro 64-bit and everything is working fine except for the biometric Validity Sensor (WBF) (PID=0050), which is only recognizable by the HP SimplePass software, but not by Windows natively. I want to use the native Windows Hello option, to sign in to my account, but Windows cannot read the fingerprint. When you put your finger over the sensor nothing happens (and it is connected and working, because you can see its light turned on), but when you open SimplePass software the sensor magically start reading the fingerprint (only this software, not Windows by itself). I tried to reinstall the drivers or find a solution on the web, but found nothing, reinstalling the drivers didn't solve the problem. Tried uninstalling SimplePass too, but it neither works. I want to know if there's a way or an option to make the sensor recognizable by Windows 10 and not only by the HP software, or if there's another driver we can use to make it work.  Thanks!

Answer:Validity Sensor (WBF) (PID=0050) not recognizable by Windows...

Hi, This is something to do with Windows 10, not the hardware because other software knows it. Let me tell you my story: I used one of my laptop to run Windows 10 insider preview, and the finger print reader did not work. This morning, I put the Windows 8.1 SSD back and run Windows 10 upgrade, now the finger print works. I put the Windows 10 preview back, finger print has Yellow question mark again. Regards.

I recently re-installed my Windows 7 Bit and also installed ThinkVantage Client Security Solution v8.30.0049 together with ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software 5.9.5 on my T410s. I enrolled some fingerprints without a problem and checked the setting "User fingerprint scan instead of password when logging into Windows". In the Windows login screen I see an icon for fingerprint login and the green light next to my fingerprint sensor is turned-on expecting the scan. However, when I scan my finger, the green light blinks once, pauses, and then blinks a second time. Nothing else happens. I do not get logged into Windows. Any idea what the issue may be?

I saw someone else had this problem and was able to fix it by entering an incorrect password at Windows login.  Unfortunately, that did not work for me.  When my laptop initially boots up, I cannot use the fingerprint sensor to login to Windows 7 - only my username appears where I have to enter the password.  However, once I am logged in, if I log out or lock the computer, then the fingerprint sensor works fine for logging in to Windows.  Does anyone know what could be causing it not to work the first time when Windows initially boots?  Any help would be appreciated!

if I install Windows 7 on my Yoga 11, are there drivers for it to handle the different orientations properly?

Answer:Yoga 11, Windows 7... do you lose orientation sensor?

Hi pookguy88,thanks for posting. Just wanted to check with you if you have Yoga11 or the Yoga11s?If you have the Yoga 11, you may not be able to install the Win7 the processor runs on Nvidia tegra which were mostly meant for tablets. Hence the reason why Windows 8 RT is the primary and only OS installed. If you you have the Yoga 11s, then this might but be a different story, as the processor is capable to run a full version of windows. If you plan to run Win7 on the 11s, there is chance that you might go through some frustration as there could be some components that will require you to source out yourself for the drivers.Hope this explains it.Regards

I have an Product name: HP Pavilion dm4 Notebook PC laptop using HP Simplepass (6 i think it is). After i did the windows 10 upgrade i noticed the cursor flashing, and anytime I tried to left click anything the options would disappear with the flashing of the cursor. The fingerprint sensor does work and works with Hello Windows, which I have activated. I did research on the web and the best i could find was going to : device manager > biometric devices > Validity Sensors (WBF) (PID=0018) and disabling it. The flashing did stop and i can now see hoover options and I can left click and even select something. However, now I can no longer use the fingerprint sensor. All update options are stating the my device and drivers are up to date. Can anyone help?

Dear All, I am coming to you today as I already tried many (maybe all) of the suggested solutions posted on this forum.Unfortunately, I never managed to get a proper, working install. After updating to windows 10 (Auto update from windows - Online) the Validity Fingerprint Sensor (VFS451) just stopped working. When trying to uninstall VFS driver using device manager, the biometric will dissapear from the device list. After restarting, the biometric will show the Validity sensor as if nothing happened, same driver version (2.3.0.0) and same driver details???. Tried updating, manually uninstalling, third party drivers (Lenovo) etc... without success. I never got to the point where Windows Hello would show up and let me configure the sensor.Hope someone has a solution, at least to uninstall the driver as it seems to be the main problem. Many thanks in advance for your time and advice. Olivier

Actually this is Win7 problem.  The only thing "Lenovo Fingerprint Manager Pro" does is enroll your fingerprints, since Win7 itself doesn't provlde a way to do this.  But logon/unlock by fingerprint is handled natively by the OS.  Whether you have the Lenovo software or not, you will see same problem as long as you use Win7.

I bought an Oculus Rift pair of VR glasses a couple of weeks ago and have a problem where the Rift sensor that comes with the glasses isn't successfully recognized by Windows every now and then during boot.

I've been in contact with the Oculus support but they haven't been able to reproduce the issue.

Below is my original message from Oculus forums describing the issue in detail and figured I would ask about it in here as well if it maybe is more of a Windows issue.

Many thanks in advance for any tips or input!

Below is my post over at Oculus and you can find the complete thread over here.

"I bought the Oculus Rift the other day and although everything seems to be working fine I have an error shown in Windows Device Manager under the USB section.

This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)The request is not supported.

I did a search for the Device ID and found it's the Oculus Rift sensor. I also tried the update driver option having Windows search for it online but it just comes back saying the best driver is already installed.

Checking in the Oculus software under Settings->Devices it shows up as connected using USB 3 and the firmware version is 178/e9c7e04064ed1bd7a089.

Hello,
I've made a clean install of Windows 8 Pro. The latest Validity Sensor driver downloaded from Dell is installed. The device is recognized in the Device Manager, though no Biometric settings is available in the control panel. I managed to create a shortcut to the missing menu by creating a folder, and renaming it to "GodMode.{0142e4d0-fb7a-11dc-ba4a-000ffe7ab428}", but the OS does not seem to recognize the device.
Any ideas?

Answer:VOSTRO 3360 Windows 8 (x64) - Validity Sensor issue

I've managed to resolve this:
1. Remove device and driver from the Device Manager
2. Install THIS driver
3. Install Validity FMA software from HERE.
After installation you'll have a Biometric devices menu in the control panel, and you can configure the device from the FMA software. My personal experience is that the sensor (PID=0011) is performing very poor: I wasn't able to scan 8 fingers from ten...
Good luck!

Answer:SpeedFan and Core Temp : Heat sensor programs for Windows

You can try SpeedFan from here
SpeedFan is a program that monitors voltages, fan speeds and temperatures in computers with hardware monitor chips. SpeedFan can even access S.M.A.R.T. info and show hard disk temperatures. SpeedFan supports SCSI disks too. SpeedFan can even change the FSB on some hardware (but this should be considered a bonus feature). SpeedFan can access digital temperature sensors and can change fan speeds accordingly, thus reducing noise. SpeedFan can find almost any hardware monitor chip connected to the 2-wire SMBus (System Management Bus (trademark belonging to SMIF, Inc.), a subset of the I2C protocol) and works fine with Windows 9x, ME, NT, 2000, 2003, XP and Windows Vista. It works with Windows 64 bit too.
I have run it on windows 7 with no problems, oh and it is free.

We recently purchased some of the Inspiron 5378 2 in 1 laptops. I installed Windows 10 Enterprise x64 LTSB 2015 like I have on the previous model they are no longer making, Inspiron 5368. The problem is the device "HID Sensor Collection V2" driver on dell's website nor any of the drivers from windows update will work. In device manager three out of four parts of the HID Sensor collection v2 have an error code 10 (device cannot start) failed to initialize sensor from HID collection descriptor. Specifically Locations 0, 1, and 2 are the devices not working. The machines came with Windows 10 Pro and the drivers are working correctly. I was under the assumption the driver pack in pro would be the same for enterprise but, I could be wrong.
I have tried uninstalling the drivers and re-installing them, some forums have mentioned disabling auto-rotate but that option does not show up for me anywhere. Microsoft says the manufacturers make the drivers not them and would not help unless we purchased a $500 service contract and the Dell technical representative said they do not support windows 10 enterprise for those machines and would not help me further. I am at a loss to what to try next any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Wifi and bluetooth is not working after upgarding windows 7 home basic to windows 8,,Z580

Hi hemantrocks1990,

First lets check if the drivers for the Wifi and Bluetooth is installed properly under the Windows 8 environment.  On the desktop press the windows key + c, then click on settings, then click on control panel.  Under control panel switch to large icons for view and go to system.  Under system we will have device manager available.

Please check if you can see the category Bluetooth, and the wireless adapter under Network adapters category.  If they are present, go to the properties of wireless adapter and check if the driver version is the latest and if the drivers are installed properly.  The latest Bluetooth driver version for Windows 8 is 12.0.0.1671/8.0.0.206 released 10/24/2012. Here is the link for the drivers.  The latest Wireless driver version for Windows 8 15.5.0.42/6.30.59.26/10.0.0.67 released 10/24/2012. Here is the link for the drivers.

If the drivers are installed properly, then we have to check if we are able to turn on and off the bluetooth or the wireless adapter.  Hit Fn+F5 and see if an interface comes up that gives you radio buttons to turn off or turn on your wireless and bluetooth adapters.  If no interface comes up, you may need to install the Lenovo Energy Management program to enable the hotkeys for turning on bluetooth and the wireless. Here is the link for the Lenovo Energy Management program.

If the answer to 2 is YES, can i restore both the systems individually just by using the One Key Recovery solution? Br, Ajay Maheshwari

(Code 43) I tried various options including driver uninstall and then reinstall. It installs a generic driver. Then I tried updating it from local hard disk. It does not work. Then I again uninstalled and tried updating from Internet, It does something and then again gives same error. Finally I'm unable to use my BlueTooth. Please advises/help.

Hello, I want to install Windows 7 on Lenovo Z580, but when I let the bios boot, they begin to run Windows 8, please help me :'(

Answer:Boot Windows 7 on Z580

HiThe two causes for this could be that either the usb/dvd is not bootable or you first have to select the usb device from f12 boot menu.See this guide on creating bootable diskhttp://www.google.co.in/url?q=http://bitsquad.co.in/2011/05/windows-7-bootable-usb/&sa=U&ei=CHXmUKv3...Or you could use softwares like microsoft windows to usb/dvd tool or novicorp wintoflash

Hello Yesterday I've got myself a brand new z580. I picked the version with no system, as I already own a copy of Win8.Everything installed properly, but I'm having one extremely annoying problem that practically prevents me from using this laptop. I mean wireless internet... It connected without any problems just after the installation of Win8. Though after literally few minutes I ended up with the limited connectivity problem. I disconnected from the wireless network and connected again and it worked... for another 10-15 minutes. And it's happening all the time. I've been struggling with this problem since yesterday, so here are the things I've already tried:-installing WLAN drivers for Win8 from Lenovo - I get the message that "The setup program for the target device is not found",-downloading all important updates from Windows Update,-installing the chinese Lenovo drivers as I've seen it mentioned on these forums,-disabling IPv6 (through regedit),-disabling the IP Helper service,-disabling the option to let the system turn off the device to save power,-installing drivers for the WLAN from Windows Update. NONE of the above worked. I'm quite sure it's not the router problem, since the internet works perfectly fine on other 3 computers at home (one is XP and 2 are Win7). I'm totally clueless here and extremely annoyed because I actually can't use my new laptop due to this issue... I'd probably consider using Win7 instead, though my main cau... Read more

Answer:Yet another problem with z580 on Windows 8

Unfortunately this sounds like the same problem we are all experiencing.  There is no fix and the work around is to roll back the drivers.  It is not possible to get power management and wifi working together.  So if you need wifi then you need to eliminate the power management. See http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-8/S205-Windows-8-wireless-problem/td-p/884375

Hello! I'm thinking about updating my laptop to 8.1. I already had some experience with RTM which was released on MSDN and it was pretty unstable, I had issues with power management, overheating and Bluetooth - all of these worked properly on 8. Is there anyone with Z580 (or similar) with 8.1 on it? I'd like to know if something improved since then.

Answer:Windows 8.1 on Z580 - opinions

I just upgraded to 8.1 It's nice to know that this big update released day after RTM fixes some stuff. Unfortunately, I still have issues with power management. It worked well on both 8, and Linux, but not here. I get only 4h of battery life and my discharge rate is constantly jumping between 10W and 20W - on 8 it was 7-12W. I think it could be an issue with GPU drivers, because I remember having 20W+ discharge rate when using NVidia GPU on Windows 8. Anyone else has this issue?

Hi everyone! Been doing some research but couldn't find a solution to my concern.  I purchased an SSD that I want to use to boot windows 7 from in my 2012 z580, along with an ultrabay.  It seems like the general concensus is it's best to place the SSD in the main drive, and if I want to, place the HDD in the ultrabay.  My questions are: 1)  Would I be able to simple run the recovery partition that's factory installed on the current HDD to install windows 7 on the SSD, and be done with it all?  (Being able to use the SSD as my main boot and "C" drive, and the HDD as a media/storage drive) 2)  Can I take out the HDD, install the SSD, leave the optical bay in and do a clean install of windows?  My research seems like the key for my license is in the UEFI Bios.  And if so, then 3) would I have to reinstall all the drivers for my z580 to function? Thanks for all the help!

First try un-installing the synaptics driver under programs.

Look for a snaptics Software and Lenovo Energy Management
and uninstall those two

Now download and install these drivers

Synaptics Touchpad Driver0mtp05w8.exe90.5MB

Lenovo Energy Managementem8.0.2.3.exe45.4MB

then try the Fn+F6. see if this will work

On a Lenovo IdeaPad Z580 Model 2151 Manufactured 5/6/2012

The computer will not boot. It defaults to the automatic Windows Repair menu.

When I first ran Windows Repair, it said that I have a corrupted mfewfpk.sys file, which is associated with McAfee Antivirus software.

Windows startup repair: ?cannot repair this computer automatically?.

I restored the system to the previous restore point and the one before that with no change.

In the command prompt, if sfc/scannow is chosen it says ?There is a system repair pending that requires reboot to complete. If I reboot the computer, I get the same message. I have done this multiple times. It's stuck in a loop.

When I tried to download a Windows 7 ISO file, Microsoft says to contact Lenovo.  Even if I am able to make a bootable Windows 7 USB drive, would I be able to fix the corrupted mfewfpk.sys file?

Hi, I have a Z580 with an HDD that is going through a life ending experience. At the current time it does not boot. Although I have salveged most of the data off of it I would like to boot it one more time, in order to clone it. I have tried the repair tools, but they are not working. My repair disk relates to Windows 8 so that may explain why it is not working. I have access to the msdn Windows 8.1 install. I attempted to use that to do a reset, but the reset function provides the message that "the media inserted is not valid" even though this is the x64 version of the disk. I am at a loss how to proceed. Any suggestions? Given how well eveything has not worked so far, I am reticent to do a complete reinstall till I have the product key off the BIOS, but all the notes I find on this subject relate to running windows apps to obtain this, clearly something I cannot do right now.  In terms of replacing the HDD, can I simply clone the working hdd (assuming I get it to work) and then just replace, or is there anything else I need to worry about. I have gone through the forum but most of the discussion appears to relate to pre-windows 8.1 OS. Thanks

Solved!

Answer:Z580 DyingHDD, windows 8.1

You should be downloading the Win 8.1 64 bit standard or home version.  Your product key should be automatically detected if the OS originally installed is Win 8.1.As to other thing to worry about is the OKR program. It may no longer work after the cloning process.

before I had win7. But I switched on win8 I can not turn on wifi or BT.and I do not have to turn it magager WiFI and BT. lenovo does not have a driver for it

Answer:Z580 windows 8 WIFI, BT

You must install the Windows 7 version of Lenovo Energy Manager for wifi or bluetooth to work.  The Windows 8 version does not allow you to use fn+f5.  Once you install the Windows 7 version, you can push fn+f5 and activate wifi or bluetooth.  There will be compatibility warnings, but it is the only way to turn on wifi and bluetooth at this time.  Do not reinstall the Windows 8 version until Lenovo updates the software, because you will eventually lose wifi or bluetooth again.  Also, you may need to use a program like Universal Extractor for the install files to extract properly. I hope this helps.  It took me lots of searching to find someone who figured this out.

I have a Z580 ideapad for which Lenovo recommends a clean install of Windows 8 from Windows 7 and to date all attempts to do otherwise ahve resulted in a corrupt installation. Where do I find the installation files for the bundled software that came with the machine? This is promised according to a paragraph at  the bottom of the webpage but does not include non Lenovo software like Disk burning suite (Power2Go etc).
