Problems with my z580 and Windows 8 Pro

Question: Problems with my z580 and Windows 8 Pro

Hello everyone Its over a month since i got my new laptop lenovo z580.Everything was going fine until i had windows 7 and all the correct drivers and tweaks for my system and with absolutely no problems whatsoever. Then one fine day i decided to install windows 8 on my laptop litle knowing about the problems it would create thereof.anyways , I have a lot of Problems with my system now and they are stated belowVolume Mixer wont work.Clicking pops up with an error.Volume Mixer has stopped working with two optionsa) check online for a solution andb) close the program.Every now and then another windows error pops up. Thumbnail extraction has failed.Just Three touch keys on the panel above the keyboard are working ( mute , Volume Up and Volume Down ) i.e the remaining two ( one that controls the fan and the on key theatre applications arent displayed neither do their functionalities)My Device Manager has some " Lenovo RMCT Display Driver " listed with some yellow exclamation mark over it.Tried to find the driver for the same but couldn't.Somebody let me know what it is and where would be the driver that would install for it.My WiFi worked somehow for a day and that day it showed just three wifi networks in my range while as at the same time another lenovo laptop at home showed around 8 wi fi networks available.Kindly let me know what probably could be the problem.USB 3.0 driver is not compatible.Where would i find the compatible driver for windows 8 ? Press Numlock and Caps lock would show onscreen but it wont now.Applications i use mostly like winrar , vlc has to be provided admin rights then only they would play videos or extract files.Synaptics Gestures wont anyhow work.Everytime i start my system pop up message that Synaptics has failed pops up along with dolby too.In short Nothing is actualyy really working.Nothing is fine with my system. Thanks to lenovo for my additional problems .P . S I had DELL Latitude before and my DELL software would maintain the drivers by themselves as unlike of lenovo and why perhaps lenovo restrains from making one for idea systems. They would have managed the drivers for a customer.I am still wondering what made me buy a lenovo laptop over dell laptop and my problems thank me for buying one !! ALL Drivers are Windows 8 Compatible that have been downloaded from Lenovo site and yet dont work with Windows 8.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Try reducing the ram to 8 gb. I don't think z580 supports more than 8 gb ram.

Worked great for almost two years not it simply doesn't.It's the Broadcom 802.11 WiFi adapter... It disappears. I tried removing it and restarting, doesn't work. He'll I can't do that always because it simply isn't there at times and when it is it doesn't connect to the internet. If I try the problem resolving thing when it doesn't work it simply makes it disappears and tells me to connect a cable...I also tried to use an external WiFi adapter but it simply rejected it.If you need anymore information just tell me because I really have exhausted my "Computing" knowledge.

Hi there, I recently got the Z580 and since I've had it, there have been problems with connectivity. The main problem is that it disconnects after going to sleep, as well as sometimes not connecting automatically when I turn it on. When either of these things happen, it won't connect at all (even with troubleshooting - windows thinks it's a problem with the router but it definitely isn't) until I restart the laptop, and sometimes I have to do this twice. I have already changed the power settings on the network adaptors to prevent them from turning themselves off in sleep mode, and I've changed the roaming tendency to aggressive but it hasn't solved the problem. Any ideas? FYI, I am not very knowledgeable in this area, so I would appreciate clear instructions if any are given. Thanks very much.

Same issue that you are having,
Resolution was to disable a tray Icon,
Press Windows button + R   >to launch a run box
Type msconfig then hit enter
Go to startup tab and click on Open task manager,
You will have a list of startup items and look for Bluetooth Tray Application
right click on that and choose Disable.

Try restarting and try to trigger a sleep and see if it works.

Hope this helps,

Hi everyone, i updated my Ideapad from Windows 8 to 8.1 (with windows store), and after the process i noted a lot of problems:1) i can't control screen's brightness, loked to the maximal levels (i tried with the normal buttons and also in the control panel, installed the previous version of intel HD graphics and again the new, but nothing)2) wifi connection (always problematic) does not work anymore at home, but in university yes... (i tried here too reinstalling drivers)3) the center of the bottom of the notebook gets hot in a few minutes (maybe where is the graphic chip)4) one key recovery does'n work, so the backup i've done the first day with my computer isn't usableif anyone can help me...

So I posted the other day it wouldn't charge. It randomly fixed itself. Before I left it, it was fully charged but now it won't even turn on. I sent it away earlier this month as well because the battery charger hole was wobbly, which it still is.

Hi, I recently purchased my Lenovo Z580 with i7 and GT640. There was preinstalled Windows 8, and I immediately started to install Windows 7 on my NTB. First think I want to know - what is best order of drivers to install. I tried something but I think its reason of my next problems. I have problem with disabling touchpad by key combo Fn + F6. Icon of crossed touchpad appeared, but touchpad is still activated, and sometimes its really irritating. And for my last problem, which is more cosmetic then functional - when setting brightness of display, the bar shows up, but it isnt increasing or decrasing, only when brightness is lowest, then bar is empty, then i adjust it just by one increment and bar is full filled, then one time more and bar is fully filled. Thanks for your answers and sorry for my bad english.

Answer:z580 - Which password to use if laptop is in safe mode ideapad z580 ?

hi akshu_13,

Welcome to the Forums.

If you're running on Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1, you should use the same password that you've set on your account.

If you're running on Windows XP, by default, you will see an additional Administrator account and the password is set to none. If you'll be using your own account and not the Administrator one then you should use the same password like in normal Windows.

Note:
Windows 8/8.1 can use a Microsoft Account and a Local Account. If you boot in Safe Mode only (not Safe Mode with Networking), you won't be able to use the Microsoft Account login as it requires internet access to verify your credentials, thus, you will need to use a Local Account.

Let me know if this helps you out.

I just bought a new Western Digital My Passport external hard drive. It works perfectly when plugged into the USB 2.0 slots, but has constant disconnecting problems when plugged into the USB 3.0 slots. It'll disconnect and then immediately reconnect. I tried my brother's harddrive (same model) and it has the same problem. Also, my Logitech MX 1000 works perfectly fine when the bluetooth receiver is plugged into the USB 2.0 slot, but becomes laggy and slow when plugged into the USB 3.0 slot. I updated all the firmware for the devices, drivers for the USB, drivers for the intel chip set, and turned off power saving options for the USB slots. I've searched the web for the harddrive issue and it looks like a lot of people are having them. But my mouse runing slowly worries me because its more than one device. is this a hardware problem? Any possible solutions?

Answer:Ideapad Z580 USB 3.0 Problems

Did you specificaly update the usb 3.0 drivers from the intel website, not just the chipset drivers as they are seperate. My TomTom will not work on my usb 3.0 but works fine on usb 2.0, but i think it`s a tomtom issue. I have a Verbatim 500gb usb 3.0 hdd and it works fine on my usb 3.0 I wonder if you problem is a WD driver problem. John.

Hi! I've had a Z580 - Windows8,i5,6Gb RAM for about 12 months from new. I couldn't work with Windows8 so I rolled the OS back to Windows7 Home Ed 64-bit but my key wouldn't work so I bought a Windows7 Professional 64-bit and installed that. So far so good. Everything fires up and works ok,except I cannot use the internet. The Qualcom Atheros AR9485WB-EG is up and ok in device manager and the adapter connects to my router but there appears to be no internet data flow. The Wireless Network Adapter Status dialogue shows that I am sending and receiving bits, but not enough to prevent even the internet explorer startup page loading. I'm using ESET virus protection and that has never been a problem previously and there is no change when that is disabled.   I've tried the latest device drivers from the Lenovo site as well as older ones which are known to work on Windows7. Also tried moving Windows Boot Manager down the priority list on BOIS startup. Anybody got any ideas that don't invole bigger hammers or pyrotechnics??

Answer:Z580 WiFi Problems (again)

Solved my own problem . I had to do a completely clean install of Windows7 and install all of the drivers again.  The Lenovo driver for the Z580 didn't work but  wlan156w81.exe for the Flex 10 (Atheros 10.0.0.274_Broadcom 6.30.223.181) worked. I got to it via aa link from the website driveridentifier.com after doing a search on Google of the Hardware ID. Moral of the story - keep trying

Question: Z580 wifi problems

Hi,I have been having these WiFi issues with my Z580.I had the motherboard as well as the screen replaced a month ago from an authorized Lenovo service center. However, after the replacement my laptop is unable to detect WiFi signals unless I am sitting right beside the router.I tried installing the required drivers for my Broadcom wlan adapter but to no avail. Is an issue with the WiFi antenna which is somewhere behind the screen.I guess they might not have been fixed appropriately when the screen was being replaced!I am using Windows 7 Home basic edition on a 64 bit system. The WiFi signals used to be excellent until I got the motherboard and screen replaced!

Answer:Z580 wifi problems

hi mohamedsamy10,

The new driver from the Intel Website probably has compatibility issues with your router that's why you're getting No internet Access. Have you tried to rollback the driver from the previous version?

Upon checking the spare parts, you have the Intel Wireless 2200N single band card which is capable of connecting up to 300Mbps, If you have a dual band router, you may need to configure it to work with single band wifi cards. Try also to disable any firewall / security software that might be conflicting with the connection/

My video is driving me nuts.  It keeps going dim and flickers.  Sometimes, but not always it also makes a high pitched annoying hum.  Then as quickly as it comes, it goes and everything is back to normal.    It does it randomly sometimes in short spurts, and somtimes in long spurts. I just hooked it up to an external monitor (my tv) while it was dim on my laptop screen, and everything looked normal on the tv, but not my laptop. Would this be a problem with my video card or a problem with the LCD screen itself? If this helps at all I have a video that shows it going from bad to good.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZ7tX-jMTBo&feature=youtu.be Thank you for your input.

Question: Z580 wifi problems

Hello, I am having issue with my Z580 which has lost all wifi.  When I hover over the wifi icon, it no longer allows me to see any wifi connections, which I know are there as other phones and laptops are connected.  I would appear that the wifi has completely stopped.  This happened a few months back and I was just about to return the PC to where I bought it from and the wifi started working again! If I run the diagnostics everything is apparently running ok but still no wifi.... Any help appreciated, maybe this time it will need returning but its a 4 hour return trip to do so... Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Hi allI got brand new Z580 with no system. I've got some problems when installing drivers, everything goes right until I install wifi driver, That's to say that after I install it the sound starts cracking, sometimes quite badly. When I download something and play some music it gets worse. It's also seems to work quite slowly. I can use skype ( with some cracking) but if I download or do other thing and try to use skype at the same time it's almost impossible.. After uninstalling  wifi drivers sound works alright. I use drivers I got from lenovo, also tried the ones from their website, it's all the same . Any ideas ?

I have tried uninstalling the Synaptics software and reinstalling but it does the same the things after reboot!!!  I have seen other posts saying to disable the edge scroll .. control panel / hardware and sound / mouse / device settings / settings / edge swipe -- and disable "enable edge swipes..but the edge swipe option does not show up.  My daughter absolutely hates this touchpad and now I am afraid I'm going to have to return this computer....anyone with any suggestions??  Thanks in advance!!

Your issue might be similar to this thread.

Cah you try to:

2. Download and install the newest Synaptics Touchpad driver from the Synaptics Website or from the lenovo website.and reboot

It seems that the antenna wire has either not been connected with the WLAN card properly or the wire has been damaged completely. The best solution is to ship it back to service centre so that they replace the whole unit.

Question: Z580 WiFi Problems

My Z580 suddenly won't connect to the wifi network in my home. Every other device in the house connects no problem. I've had this problem before; last time I found that going into my PC settings to switch off the WiFi and switch it on again worked, as opposed to simply toggling Airplane Mode. This time I've done that multiple times. I've also restarted the router multiple times, disabled and reenabled the network adapter in the Device Manager, forgotten the network and logged on as new, toggled airplane mode. Uninstalling/resinstalling drivers for the Network Adapter seemed to work for about a minute. That's the most success I've had.

Answer:(z580) Just wondered what lenovo software will work with the z580 ?

hi mikee77,

The Lenovo Z580 comes with these lenovo pre-installed apps:

Lenovo OneKey RecoveryLenovo OneKey TheaterLenovo Cloud Storage by SugarSyncLenovo Energy ManagementLenovo Companion

The Lenovo Companion is like an app store the features:

Third-Party Apps and Ads
Lenovo products, Tutorials, Application showcases, Lenovo accessories information, Lenovo Cloud, and a link to Lenovo blogs and articles

Most apps listed on the Lenovo Companion will work on the Z580 as long as it meets the system requirements (i.e. If an app is made only for Touchscreen models, then you will need to get the non-touchscreen version or if there's a Utility app that senses temperature on a specific model, make sure Z580 is on the supported models).

I've been having problems with the touchpad for a while now, I'm not quite sure if they're are software or hardware related.  I'm running Windows 8 Pro 64bitSynaptic Touchpad Driver for Microsoft Windows 8 (32-bit, 64-bit) - IdeaPad Z380, Z480, Z580 Version 16.2.10.5 The Synaptic Pointing device will sometimes just stop working altogether. For the last 30 minutes it was displaying on the taskbar that there was pressure being applied to the center and I had no control over the mouse at all. I rebooted several times and it was still displaying that there was pressure being applied to the touchpad. After leaving it for a little while it seems to have fixed it self and worked now, but this has happened on multiple occasions since my purchase. One small thing I noticed was that lots of the time when the touchpad isn't responsive I'm still able to use the left and right click. I'm also able to move my finger around where the left and right click buttons are and it picks up my movement, however, if I try that on the main section of the trackpad it does not respond.  Any help is appreciated.

Hello guys, i tried to play a few audio cds for first time after 12 months of owning my Z580, and i discovered that they will not play! I tried 4 different audio CDs, all original, and none will play. I hear the drive working, media player shows the list with songs and duration, but nothing, no sound is coming from the speakers. Then i tried a non genuine copy audio CD and that is working normally.  I have all the lastest drivers installed from Lenovo site. OS is Win 8.1. This is really very frustrating. Does anyone else have the same problem? Will your Z580s play audio CDs?  Cheers Nick

Hello, fellow Lenovo users, i have a serious and reoccuring wifi problem with my z580 equipped with Broadcom 802.11 n and windows 8.1. I know many of you had the limited connection problem, and I read many forums and supposed solutions, but I think my situation is even worse if possible.  Although the connection is regularly lost, (limited) when i disconnect and reconnect, a massive freeze happens, the sreen stops, the mouse is not moving neither. Afterward, sometimes the system comes back alive. However, even if it does, no wifi is avaiable as no adapter is recognised as installed.Several restart can cure it for some minutes, than the whole procedure starts over. On linux, no such problem occured, thus I assume it is a driver problem. This is very frustrating, please help me if you have any idea. What I tried so far: reinstall the adapter from the lenovo sitereinstall it by windows updatemanually installing the broadcom multiband drivermanually installing the broadcom drivermanually installing the microsoft driverswithing of the adapter sleeping function paland3

So here is the story, I bought my laptop 4gb ram installed and last year i bought 8gb ram to upgrade it. But both rams together made my laptop unstable, it was at 100% cpu usage even when it was idle. So i started using only 8gb. Then i decided to update my bios thinking maybe it would fix the problem. I flashed the 'public' 5FCN95WW version first as instructed, it rebooted then i was stuck at the boot menu. I did some digging and found out that it would only boot on legacy(don't know why). And when i tried to flash the 'private' 5FCN95WW version it said something like 'can't flash same or older version'. Then i did some more digging then found out that i could flash it if i changed the bios setting 'bios back flash'. So i did that and i was able to flash the 'private' 5FCN95WW version.  Now it's running with 12gb ram smoothly. But the thermal management and brigthness controls are messed up. I can't change the fan speed it seems to be stuck at dedusting mode but it's working on auto adjusted speed. Can't change it to silent or any other speed. And brightness level is faulty, it takes like 20 (fn + up)'s to get to max brightness. So here are my questions, -Are you guys working on a fix for thermal management and brightness issue?-Why can't i boot with UEFI? Lenovo Z580INTEL I5-3210M128GB(TOSHIBA SSD(SYSTEM DRIVER)) + 500GB(SEAGATE HDD)12GB RAM(8GB KINGSTON + 4GB HYNIX)2GB NVIDIA GEFORCE 630MWINDOWS 7 64BIT

Hi my name is Drew. I recently got the Z580 as a present and from the start I've had no problems. However today, once I turned on my computer, signed into my user account, and the desktop appeared, I was unable to open any of my programs. I tried bringing up the task manager to see what I could find out from there, but even it won't appear. Instead a window appears saying "The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion." I have windows 8, so I try to drag my finger across the touchpad to open the side panel, but also to no avail. Even when i right click on the desktop, all that appears is a loading symbol. The only thig i am able to acess is the start button in the bottom left corner( i use classic shell so i can have a desktop like windows 7). I am unqble to run any programs or access anything this way either. If anybody can help me with this problem, or can lead me into the right direction, I'd very much appreciate it.

Answer:Z580 having problems once desktop appears

From what I've witnessed, a box appears saying Microsoft Windows is not responding. When I click cancel, it freezes the screen but I can move my mouse. When I click end now, it goes to the green windows 8 background screen and freezes, but I'm able to move my mouse again. Any ideas of what I should do? Update: I can access programs from the desktop if I'm quick enough after startup, then everything will work fine for about 10 minutes before it freezes and the "Windows Explorer is not responding" box shows up. Still have no idea what's really wrong with my laptop.

Hi folks.  I have two connected problems with my Z580 I hope you can help with.  My wifi seems to connect but does not allow me access to the internet.  It seems to think it's an open connection but it is not, it's secure.  To complicate matters, on start up my machine now wants me to input my Microsoft password, which it obviously can't do anything with, rather than the normal login password. 1. How do I get my machine to stop asking me for my Microsoft password so I can start up? 2. What do I need to do to get full access to the internet? Many thanks.James

Good Afternoon, I am a proud owner of a Lenovo Z580, until this recent week. For the past week or two, the computer will randomly freeze up and display different bars of alternative grey, black, and white pixels. The only thing I can do is hold the power button to do an force shutdown, but once I try to boot it up again, only the power LED (as well as the Volume Up, Down, Mute, Theater, and Dust Removal LEDs) light up. Recently whenever i hibernated or shutdown my laptop and turned it back on it started to get a black screen, you cant even see the splash screen for lenovo. It is simply black as if was still shutdown. My only solution was to disconnect everything (USB's, Headphones ect.) and then turn it on, it worked for a while but whenever i do that now i still has a black screen. The graphics card has been messing around lately with many games leaving my background green for a split second but i dont really know if that is the cause, i have used CPU Unparking in the past and it has built up lots of heat inside my laptop so maybe some of the components may have been damaged but i dont know if the components are the problem. Also considering its just a black screen on startup i cant get startup repair running. Please post your solutions!Thank you!

Hi all, I bought my z580 a couple of weeks ago and since then have been having problems with the touchpad. Sometimes the cursor freezes on screen and I have tap the touch pad repeadly and quite hard to get it going again. It frequently opens the charms bar and/or a little battery life/time and date window. It also keeps switching between full screen and normal. Really, really irritating. Would be very obliged to anyone who can help. I've tried installing the lastest drivers for the touchpad but so far no success.

Answer:Problems with touchpad - idea pad z580

1. The Synaptics ClickPad used on the Z580 is one of the worst touchpads in existence. I've owned lots of laptops, used even more at work, and this one is really bad when it comes to the issues you describe. 2. If you set the PALM CHECK to the MINIMUM, the Keyboard will respond INSTANTLY and SIMULTANEOUSLY while you use the touchpad. Otherwise!!! - the keyboard or the touchpad will have a slight period where it WILL NOT RESPOND at ALL!!! >.< Thus, move the mouse, wait, use the keyboard when PALM CHECK is anything higher than mimimum. 3. You can adjust the touch sensitivity and palm check to help reduce the typos you get - usually, slide palm check up just before the red zone, and bring touch sensitivity up a few notches from minimum. 4. CAN'T BELIEVE Lenovo would ship such a poor touchpad with the Z580!?!? It's really horrible! All of the other touchpads (eg. Macbook Pro, Toshiba Satellite, HPs) on laptops of late all work perfectly fine without the stuttering, typos, etc. I also experience. Even going from a 2006 era Macbook Pro to this laptop makes me feel there's something seriously wrong with the touchpad.... but it's what everyone else is reporting.

Hi guys! It's nice to meet you, I'm new to lenovo experience As a matter of fact i bought a Lenovo ideapad z580 yesterday, because my previous laptop failed really badly 2 days ago and I'm studying architecture 6-th year and I'm in exam session. That's why my time is really limited. The parameters of the notebook are:CPU: Intel Core i7-3520M at 2.9 GHz8 GB RAM - 1333 MHzHDD - 1000 GBNViDiA GeForce GT 640M I installed all drivers required really fast and easy from the notebook CD (really satisfied by that ) on Windows 7 64bit Ultimate. My problem is about the work of the NVIDIA graphics adapter with Autodesk products. I'm used to Radeon graphic adapters and seriously I require some help I'm new to the whole thing that notebooks include 2 graphic adapters but I got the basics really really fast - Intel HD 4000 is running for all basic stuff and programs except when NViDiA decides to kick in when required or I press left button on the desired program to run and choose to be powered by the NViDiA. At BIOS my NViDiA Optimus oiption is enabled, as well and I'm pretty sure the video adapter is working properly but... now I will explain the problem: When I start Autodesk Program (I work with 3) like Autocad 2013, Revit 2013, 3ds MAX Design 2013 with the NViDiA - the programs give error and close with prompt to send feedback to autodesk. I spent some time with the NVIDIA driver settings where I can customise what functions to use for each program I'm running and I managed to ... Read more

Hello, many a times it may happen that some windows update tinkers with the screen brightness settings of the laptop. In such a case the the screen brightness would become dismally low and it would seem that the screen is not 'waking up'. The best remedy is to proceed with a system restore. Ensure that you choose an appropriate restore point so as to undo any recent updates especially from the time you have been experiencing screen brightness difficulties.

So I just recently bought a Lenovo Z580 i7 with windows 8 pre installed on it. My touchpad scrolling works for a little while whenever i restart my computer, but then it just stops working completely which is really frustrating. I've uninstalled and reintalled the synaptics driver multiple times, but the same problem keeps reoccuring. Anyone having the same issues/ have figured out a solution? Help please! this issue is making me hate switching over from my macbook.

Did you install the drivers from your D drive or did you download them from lenovo's site? I had the same or similar problem on my y580 and I just kept trying different places to get the drivers until I got one that works well. Still haven't gotten the two finger tap for right click to work quite right yet though. Online you're looking for synaptics toupad drivers for your Z580

Hi all, I got this laptop around 8 months ago for a ridiculously low price (it was new from Staples, though), but it's been having some problems lately, especially after I upgraded to Windows 8.1 around Thanksgiving.  For schoolwork-related reasons, I have to reboot the PC quite frequently to switch between Linux and Windows, or boot from other media.  Back in the day, before Windows 8.1, I could press the Novo button (next to the power button) and select a boot device. Now, the Novo button still brings up the first menu, but nothing in the menu works anymore.  Regardless of what I choose from [Normal Startup, BIOS Setup, Boot Menu, System Recovery], it will just boot straight into Windows 8.1.  This is also quite annoying, since I can't access the BIOS anymore without popping out the hard drive (which stops Windows 8.1 from booting).  I have read online about other people having this problem, but none of the solutions worked for me.  One guy managed to get his laptop approved for repair at a Lenovo Support Center. tl;dr: I can't use the Novo button to boot a device or access the BIOS after installing Windows 8.1... anybody have any ideas?! I've also been having some other problems that have been somewhat on and off since I got the laptop.  These aren't as annoying as the BIOS/boot proboem, but if anybody just happens to know how to fix the problem, then I'd still be very grateful.  The first is that the wi-fi random... Answer:Cant access BIOS with Novo button + other problems [Z580]

Hi. Can't you get into BIOS by just pressing F2 instead? (I'm guessing it's a no because of what you said: "I have read online about other people having this problem, but none of the solutions worked for me" ) about the clock, I am wondering if there's an option (either in windows or in bios) which says how to store the clock: in Local or in UTC(GMT) format   - wondering if this has some kind of effect which causes it to do what you said somehowEDIT: I'm wondering by how many hours does it desync ? and is it the same amount of hours always? and what's your timezone difference from UTC(GMT) ? You could try testing: set your timezone to UTC and see if it desyncs anymore. (EDIT2: I mean if you could live with the clock being off by some hours for a while, while you're doing this test, assuming you still sync it to windows time server while in utc time zone) i've no other ideas guesses

Good afternoon, I am quite disappointed because I see many problems with BIOS or BOOT problems for Lenovo Z580.I still can't find solution for my problem. The point is I can't go to the BIOS with lenovo recovery button. I had to pull out battery of bios and then I could go there. When I changed some options and saved the settings, the bios had still same options like before. I can't swtich the boot priorities. However I inserted boot flash with WIN10 to install that, but I can't because of the boot priorities. I am stucked. Also I tried all key shortcuts, It does nothing. I really don't want to  take out the HDD and re-install the windows in different PC via sata.  Can you tell me how should I boot the flash or CD with windows when I can't set up the boot priotiry? All I can see is blackscreen.  The point with lenovo recovery button is also weird. When i start laptop via this button I see the menu with options but after I choose one of them for example ''recovery" or "bios " It does nothing.  Thanks, David Byrtus

I have just bought the laptop and I have a few questions and problems.  My Problem: The laptop will not detect a wireless connection for some reason as in the icon in the bottom right corner for network connections displays a red x.  1. Checked fn +f5 and there is no connection displayed there2. Restarted laptop, didn't fix it3. Tried installing WLAN drivers from the support page and restarted the laptop with no luck. I think there is no WLAN Adapter. The only adapter it has in device manager is the PCI Family Controller. Do you have any advice?   Also,  My laptop has 2 graphics cards apparently. One is the IntelHD 4000 and the other is the Nvidia GT 630M. Why does the IntelHD 4000 graphics card display in DxDiag where as the nvidia one does not? Both cards are present, however, when checking device manager.  Thanks for the help. I hope I can get a fast reply as I may have to return it within 2 weeks.  Thanks.

I got my Z580 less than 2 months ago when I started noticing the issue with the battery. At random times the battery will say "plugged in, not charging" and when that happens the wifi also will go in and out constantly until I try one of the fixes posted on the lenovo forums. None of them have provided a permanent fix. Sometimes the fix lasts for less than just a couple minutes. I will provide any details necessary to help fix this.

Hi All -I recently bought a new laptop, a Lenovo Ideapad Z580. It works wonderfully (although I will admit I'm not a fan of windows 8). Problem is, I always seem to have problems connecting to my home wifi connection. Before it worked perfectly, but now I've been having problems with it, seemingly out of nowhere. All the other tablets, phones, laptops and computers at home connect to the network just fine. My laptop will detect the home network go on an endless loop of "identifying," followed by "cannot connect to network", followed by "identifying" yet again.Keep in mind though, if I connect to the wifi on campus, or at starbucks or anywhere else it works perfectly. It's JUST my home network and I can't quite put my finger on it considering that all other devices at home work fine.I updated my drivers, restarted my drivers, ran a release/renew, TCP/IP reset, restarted the router, restarted my laptop, but none of these have worked. In the end, I gave up and simply plugged in an Ethernet cable in.If anyone has any other ideas, please let me know! This is getting frustrating considering my Ethernet cable is only like, 5 feet long.Greatly appreciated

Have a look in your device drivers then network adapters , the one for the broadcom wifi, double click on it and go to advanced then click on AP compatibility mode, the change it from high speed to broader compatibility. I don't know if this will help or not. John.

Hi All, Your urgent attention to this issue is highly appreciated. I had purchased Lenovo Z580 laptop (QB05312638) on 25/08/2012. On the date of my purchase there was an advertisement from Lenovo stating " 3 years Warranty" ( 1 year accidental damage + Onsite warranty & 2 years Carriage Warranty). However my laptop was down and required to be serviced within a year due to keyboard case problem. This was serviced at that time and now I am facing same issue of keyboard case problem which led to my display flickering issue as advised by Lenovo authorized service centre. Though my Laptop is still under 3 year warranty, the service centre states that I have only " 1 year of Warranty " as per the records and charges me INR 16,000.00 to service the display issue. Also the service centre states if my record shows this as " 3 year period of Warranty " they would do the needful. Out of my interest I had spent the amount from my pocket for the keyboard case of INR 7000.00. Please advise if the warranty period could be changed to 3 years so that the display could be changed. I am also trying to get in touch with the service team ( [email protected] & [email protected] ), however there is no response inspite of multiple chasers. NOTE : My Lenovo laptop (Z580) is still with the Lenovo service centre for more than 45 days, awaiting an update from lenovo. My 3 year warrant expires on 25/08/2015. Thanks & Warm Regards... Read more

Just a headsup - This is NOT the official support forum. You may get advice from a mod but it is not certain.

Your best option is to call Lenovo and try to talk to their Manager.

Also, once your warranty expires, it cannot be renewed. You can check the warrranty status online here -

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Your issue might be similar to this thread.

If you also have the Liteon WB225 BGN+BT HMC WLAN Card WCBN608AH-L6 (p5), can you try to install this driver:

Question: Z580 Windows 8

Good Day, I see this topic has been discussed to death. But would appreciate fresh input on the topic.I made a big mistake buying my lenovo z580 with windows 8. Thinking I can load it with windos 7 and later restore windows 8 i found out to late that the partions should NOT be formated and there is no recovery disks given (i formated it in the first 2 min after i bought it). I have hower backed up all the files and software on the partions. e.g LrsEsp.okrWinre.okr is there a way to rebuild the windows okr images into a iso DVD for reload?I also tried to take a normal ISO DVD of windows 8 and reload it, but it seems the embeded key will not work with any version of windows 8 64x other then the embbed version which has no ISO. please help / advice. really want to get win8 back on

Answer:Wifi and bluetooth is not working after upgarding windows 7 home basic to windows 8,,Z580

Hi hemantrocks1990,

First lets check if the drivers for the Wifi and Bluetooth is installed properly under the Windows 8 environment.  On the desktop press the windows key + c, then click on settings, then click on control panel.  Under control panel switch to large icons for view and go to system.  Under system we will have device manager available.

Please check if you can see the category Bluetooth, and the wireless adapter under Network adapters category.  If they are present, go to the properties of wireless adapter and check if the driver version is the latest and if the drivers are installed properly.  The latest Bluetooth driver version for Windows 8 is 12.0.0.1671/8.0.0.206 released 10/24/2012. Here is the link for the drivers.  The latest Wireless driver version for Windows 8 15.5.0.42/6.30.59.26/10.0.0.67 released 10/24/2012. Here is the link for the drivers.

If the drivers are installed properly, then we have to check if we are able to turn on and off the bluetooth or the wireless adapter.  Hit Fn+F5 and see if an interface comes up that gives you radio buttons to turn off or turn on your wireless and bluetooth adapters.  If no interface comes up, you may need to install the Lenovo Energy Management program to enable the hotkeys for turning on bluetooth and the wireless. Here is the link for the Lenovo Energy Management program.

Hey All This is my 1st post here.. I have Z580 laptop with One Key Recovery Option... I have dual boot in it - Windows 7 Home Basic and WIndows Server 2008 R2 I want to create a back up image file of both at the same time, using One Key Recovery, so that I can restore back in future, if need be 1. So, I will log in to, say, WIndows 7 and take the back up image.. Will that take an image for both OS at the same time? Basic question here is does it image of the Hard disk or each OS.. 2. Or do I have to take a separate image of both after logging into respective OS? 3. If answer to 1 is YES, will that restore both the systems at the same time in future using the One Key Recovery solution? 4. If the answer to 2 is YES, can i restore both the systems individually just by using the One Key Recovery solution? Br, Ajay Maheshwari

Hello! I'm thinking about updating my laptop to 8.1. I already had some experience with RTM which was released on MSDN and it was pretty unstable, I had issues with power management, overheating and Bluetooth - all of these worked properly on 8. Is there anyone with Z580 (or similar) with 8.1 on it? I'd like to know if something improved since then.

Answer:Windows 8.1 on Z580 - opinions

I just upgraded to 8.1 It's nice to know that this big update released day after RTM fixes some stuff. Unfortunately, I still have issues with power management. It worked well on both 8, and Linux, but not here. I get only 4h of battery life and my discharge rate is constantly jumping between 10W and 20W - on 8 it was 7-12W. I think it could be an issue with GPU drivers, because I remember having 20W+ discharge rate when using NVidia GPU on Windows 8. Anyone else has this issue?

Hello Yesterday I've got myself a brand new z580. I picked the version with no system, as I already own a copy of Win8.Everything installed properly, but I'm having one extremely annoying problem that practically prevents me from using this laptop. I mean wireless internet... It connected without any problems just after the installation of Win8. Though after literally few minutes I ended up with the limited connectivity problem. I disconnected from the wireless network and connected again and it worked... for another 10-15 minutes. And it's happening all the time. I've been struggling with this problem since yesterday, so here are the things I've already tried:-installing WLAN drivers for Win8 from Lenovo - I get the message that "The setup program for the target device is not found",-downloading all important updates from Windows Update,-installing the chinese Lenovo drivers as I've seen it mentioned on these forums,-disabling IPv6 (through regedit),-disabling the IP Helper service,-disabling the option to let the system turn off the device to save power,-installing drivers for the WLAN from Windows Update. NONE of the above worked. I'm quite sure it's not the router problem, since the internet works perfectly fine on other 3 computers at home (one is XP and 2 are Win7). I'm totally clueless here and extremely annoyed because I actually can't use my new laptop due to this issue... I'd probably consider using Win7 instead, though my main cau... Read more

Answer:Yet another problem with z580 on Windows 8

Unfortunately this sounds like the same problem we are all experiencing.  There is no fix and the work around is to roll back the drivers.  It is not possible to get power management and wifi working together.  So if you need wifi then you need to eliminate the power management. See http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-8/S205-Windows-8-wireless-problem/td-p/884375

Hi everyone! Been doing some research but couldn't find a solution to my concern.  I purchased an SSD that I want to use to boot windows 7 from in my 2012 z580, along with an ultrabay.  It seems like the general concensus is it's best to place the SSD in the main drive, and if I want to, place the HDD in the ultrabay.  My questions are: 1)  Would I be able to simple run the recovery partition that's factory installed on the current HDD to install windows 7 on the SSD, and be done with it all?  (Being able to use the SSD as my main boot and "C" drive, and the HDD as a media/storage drive) 2)  Can I take out the HDD, install the SSD, leave the optical bay in and do a clean install of windows?  My research seems like the key for my license is in the UEFI Bios.  And if so, then 3) would I have to reinstall all the drivers for my z580 to function? Thanks for all the help!

before I had win7. But I switched on win8 I can not turn on wifi or BT.and I do not have to turn it magager WiFI and BT. lenovo does not have a driver for it

Answer:Z580 windows 8 WIFI, BT

You must install the Windows 7 version of Lenovo Energy Manager for wifi or bluetooth to work.  The Windows 8 version does not allow you to use fn+f5.  Once you install the Windows 7 version, you can push fn+f5 and activate wifi or bluetooth.  There will be compatibility warnings, but it is the only way to turn on wifi and bluetooth at this time.  Do not reinstall the Windows 8 version until Lenovo updates the software, because you will eventually lose wifi or bluetooth again.  Also, you may need to use a program like Universal Extractor for the install files to extract properly. I hope this helps.  It took me lots of searching to find someone who figured this out.

Hi, I have a Z580 with an HDD that is going through a life ending experience. At the current time it does not boot. Although I have salveged most of the data off of it I would like to boot it one more time, in order to clone it. I have tried the repair tools, but they are not working. My repair disk relates to Windows 8 so that may explain why it is not working. I have access to the msdn Windows 8.1 install. I attempted to use that to do a reset, but the reset function provides the message that "the media inserted is not valid" even though this is the x64 version of the disk. I am at a loss how to proceed. Any suggestions? Given how well eveything has not worked so far, I am reticent to do a complete reinstall till I have the product key off the BIOS, but all the notes I find on this subject relate to running windows apps to obtain this, clearly something I cannot do right now.  In terms of replacing the HDD, can I simply clone the working hdd (assuming I get it to work) and then just replace, or is there anything else I need to worry about. I have gone through the forum but most of the discussion appears to relate to pre-windows 8.1 OS. Thanks

Solved!

Go to Solution.

Answer:Z580 DyingHDD, windows 8.1

You should be downloading the Win 8.1 64 bit standard or home version.  Your product key should be automatically detected if the OS originally installed is Win 8.1.As to other thing to worry about is the OKR program. It may no longer work after the cloning process.

(Code 10)The I/O device is configured incorrectly or the configuration parameters to the driver are incorrect. HELP!

vikas189 wrote:Hello, I upgraded my Lenovo Z580 to Win 10. Two major issues I have are:1.) cannot decrease or control my screen brightness2.) cannot do two finger right click on touchpad Can anyone help please. -VikasThe general solution for problems resulting from an upgrade to Win 10 is to reinstall the previous drivers. In your case, for #1, reinstall Intel hd xxxx driver, and for #2, the touchpad driver. Try to solve the problems one by one.

When I open skype the light come on but it just shows a constant loading image icon. when i use the youcam app it does the same thing. i've checked the drivers on both, uninstalled and reinstalled.. but no luck, any help would be much appreciated

Answer:z580 webcam not working after windows 8

Try this: 1) uninstall the drilvers. (restart if it asked)2) let windows install it's default drivers and see if that works.

Hi there - I purchased a new Z580 last week, Windows 7 was applying some updates earlier today and gave the usual message at the end during shutdown showing the progress of the updates being applied (e.g 20 of 38) along with the message not to unplug or switch off the laptop. Unfornatunately my son pressed the power button before all the updates were complete and windows will now not load. Can you please advise whether it is possible to go back to the factory settings either using the OneKey Recovery or some other method? I had not created a backup as it I have only used the laptop twice since purchasing. Thank you

Answer:Z580 Failure during Windows Update

When you press power button start pressing F8 till advanced boot option turns up. Then navigate to repair your computer and press enter. Then wait till computer boots to repairing environmenr. Then either do a startup repair or a system repair to any point. If this also does not start, then do a one key recovery.

I changed my laptop power plan's options to make the led brightness 100% when plugged-in ..........When I restart ...... It appeared that it is now 100% but it is actually not 100% ......... When I try to increase the brightness by keyboard the meter appears and tells that it is 100% ..... But actually I can increase more to reach until 100% without any changes with meter ...........So every time I restart I have to increase the brightness from keyboard because windows 8 adjust it as 100% but actually it is not !!!!!!!! ( calibrating problem I think) ..   Windows 8

Hi everyone, I bought Ideapad Z580 in November 2012 installed with windows 7. Leagally upgraded to windows 8 under windows 8 upgrade programme. Now i am very desperate to upgrade further to windows 8.1, however i came across tons of problems faced by Z580 users regarding power mangement, display issues, wifi conncetivity and other tons of incompatability. I am requesting some system expert to tell me that if i proceed with the upgrade what could be the possible consequences? And wether it is still recommended to proceed with the upgrade?  Also i came across one forum wherein it was written that upgrading from windows 7 has terminated the lenovo warranty. I am holding 3 years extended warranty. Can installing new OS can result in termination of hardware warranty? Sounds strange.

Answer:Ideapad Z580 Upgrade to WIndows 8.1

Hi beats_1989,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Windows 8.1 has just been officially released and just like any other Operating System Patch, updates and fixes will sure to come. Most specially with the drivers, Im pretty sure sable drivers will be created for Windows 8,1 Support.
If I'm in your situation I'll Wait a little bit more until all issues has been resolved by community members and Lenovo.

You may encounter Driver and Software Compatibility Issues. Where in you might need to search in and out of Lenovo for Driver updates and do it manually.

Upgrading the Windows OS will not Void your Hardware Warranty, But their support for Preloaded Windows and Lenovo Software components may not be supported over the phone.

Still Any proven Hardware Defect or Malfunction will be covered by Lenovo through the coverage of your warranty, and there may be times that they will have to reload the Original OS/Software incase the Software / OS upgrade causes some hardware not to function properly. But surely you will be notified prior to making any changes on your Upgraded OS or Software.

Regards
Thanks,
