Lenovo IdeaPad Z580 - WiFi issue

Question: Lenovo IdeaPad Z580 - WiFi issue

Hello. There is something wrong with my WiFi, everytime I try to use my internet connection to ie. load YouTube movie or any page it takes ages to do so. I have to HLSW installed, it has function to show latency on your connection, whenever I don't do anything it stays around 15-20ms, but strange thing happens if I try to do anything at all that requires internet connection, even loading simple page takes it up to 1500-2000ms. Oh, and there are more CPUs in home network and they are working fine, so it's not internet provider issue. I wasn't like that from beginning, it started couple of days ago, tried reinstalling drivers couple times, tried looking for solution here, couldn't find any, do any of you have any idea what should I do to fix it?

Preferred Solution: Lenovo IdeaPad Z580 - WiFi issue

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

under the advanced look for something says like WMM (Wifi Multimedia)
                 Disable that and save

Answer:lenovo ideapad z580 wifi problem

I have the P580. I thought it was my house's internet! (I rent).I lose internet, then uninterrupted wifi for 30 min to 2 hours, then lose signal again for anywhere from 5 to 30 min. Never over 30 min with no signal, though. (BTW, just today my laptop refused to power on. This is about 2 months after the wifi problem started. So.... you've been warned.)

Just purchsed the Lenovo Z580 at Staples for 549.99.  The Windows 8 OS is pre-installed on the machine.  Starts up fine, navigates fine, but for some reason the wireless seems to go from Connected to Limited to Connecting to No Network all in the span of ten seconds.  I can get the internet to work for about five seconds max, but after that nothing. Is it a defective machine or am I missing something?

I have just bought the laptop and I have a few questions and problems.  My Problem: The laptop will not detect a wireless connection for some reason as in the icon in the bottom right corner for network connections displays a red x.  1. Checked fn +f5 and there is no connection displayed there2. Restarted laptop, didn't fix it3. Tried installing WLAN drivers from the support page and restarted the laptop with no luck. I think there is no WLAN Adapter. The only adapter it has in device manager is the PCI Family Controller. Do you have any advice?   Also,  My laptop has 2 graphics cards apparently. One is the IntelHD 4000 and the other is the Nvidia GT 630M. Why does the IntelHD 4000 graphics card display in DxDiag where as the nvidia one does not? Both cards are present, however, when checking device manager.  Thanks for the help. I hope I can get a fast reply as I may have to return it within 2 weeks.  Thanks.

Hi All -I recently bought a new laptop, a Lenovo Ideapad Z580. It works wonderfully (although I will admit I'm not a fan of windows 8). Problem is, I always seem to have problems connecting to my home wifi connection. Before it worked perfectly, but now I've been having problems with it, seemingly out of nowhere. All the other tablets, phones, laptops and computers at home connect to the network just fine. My laptop will detect the home network go on an endless loop of "identifying," followed by "cannot connect to network", followed by "identifying" yet again.Keep in mind though, if I connect to the wifi on campus, or at starbucks or anywhere else it works perfectly. It's JUST my home network and I can't quite put my finger on it considering that all other devices at home work fine.I updated my drivers, restarted my drivers, ran a release/renew, TCP/IP reset, restarted the router, restarted my laptop, but none of these have worked. In the end, I gave up and simply plugged in an Ethernet cable in.If anyone has any other ideas, please let me know! This is getting frustrating considering my Ethernet cable is only like, 5 feet long.Greatly appreciated

Answer:Problems connecting to Home WIFI network Lenovo Ideapad Z580

Have a look in your device drivers then network adapters , the one for the broadcom wifi, double click on it and go to advanced then click on AP compatibility mode, the change it from high speed to broader compatibility. I don't know if this will help or not. John.

Well since I've had the laptop I have had wi-fi isses, not related to my router. It is most likely down to the laptops wi-fi internals. I have checked the driver using 'device manager' and it is saying it's up to date. I keep getting 'limited connectivity' and sometimes the internet takes ages. I have turned off the 'turn this device off to save power' in its settings on device manager. Would be helpful for anyone's advice. I have the 'Qualcomm Atheros AR9485WB-EG Wireless Network Adapter' Cheers to anyone who helps

Tweaks on the settings as suggested by the manufacturer might also help.

Well with my old clunky acer laptop I could use the touchpad on games flash games and still be able to use my touchpad. However on my new laptop I cannot do that and the touchpad stops working if I press a key. Also with Lenovo touchzone on start up it gives me a black background and I have to close it in task manager, could this be part of my earlier problem

Answer:Bluetooth issue with lenovo ideapad z580

hi nairajin,

Welcome to the Community.

Is there any specific error message when you're not able to transfer anymore files thru bluetooth?

To verify if the bluetooth driver is causing the issue, try to:
1. navigate to Control Panel > Programs / Programs and Features and uninstall the Bluetooth Driver and reboot.
2. Open device manager and bluetooth device should look something like this:

3. Pair the device and try to send some files again
4. If the issue is solved, try to update Bluetooth Driver and observe

Hi,I have a problem with my Lenovi Ideapad Z580. Below you can see the hardware specifications. My problem is that laptop is lagging (freezing) whenever I run movies, listen to music, youtube, basically while doing anything. It happens randomly, lasts only for few moments (like a scratchy noise). I do not need to restart computer, but it's very annoying and concerning, especially because the machine is only few months old and I would say, quite powerful. Just to give you some information in regards to what I tried so far:  - I checked processes in task manager whenever lagging occures > I noticed no issues. I mean, CPU ussage, Disk Usage etc. are all under 30-40-50% (if not less)  - Checked if laptop is overheating - 100% not the case, laptop is cold, normal temperature. I had a similar problem on my old Acer that was overheating, so I would know if this would be the problem - I ran virus scan - let me say that computer came installed with McAffee Security, which I disabled and installed Avast (free), as I read that McAffee can cause Wireless connection problem (which I had by the way...) - Updated Nvidia card drivers Any help, opinion would be appreciated, as I am getting more and more concerned with this issue. LenovoItem Weight2.6 KgProduct Dimensions25 x 37.6 x 3.3 cmBatteries1 Nonstandard Battery batteries required. Hey guys, I'd just like to address an issue with my Lenovo Ideapad U350. I had it since Nov 2009, and one major problem I have with it is connecting to WiFi.  The laptop can connect to WiFi only if the WiFi source is super close (like 1 to 12 inches away only). Even if its half a meter away from the WiFI source, it has problems connecting to it. Any solution/s to this?  P.S. I have another laptop and other WiFi-enabled devices which can connect to the WiFi source even at long distances. (Like 10 meters and farther, or even across rooms)...Why do these devices connect to the WiFi seamlessly (even at such long distances) while my Lenovo Ideapad U350 has problems connecting to WiFi even at (somewhat) short distances?  HELP! Please...

I have decided to upgrade my laptop's Wi-Fi modem to the newer one. So, I have checked the hardware maintenance manual for my laptop for the needed equipment and found out that the best option would be "WLAN card, 802.11a/g/n && 802.16e, Intel 6250NX MOW M PCIE NB HMC" (FRU number: 20002321). So, I have purchased this WLAN card and after the hardware installation BIOS started to display "104-unsupported network device detected" error. Even though I have upgraded BIOS to the latest available version. It would be great to have some explanation about the hardware compatibility. Otherwise it seems that I have just wasted my money on incompatible hardware.

I bought a lenovo ideapad z580 back in 2012 with windows 8 pre-installed.  After a few months of using it, it would have problems with the wifi turning limited. I've put up with the problem for a year and a half now... restarting the computer has always been able to fix it, until yesterday when I would restart it and it would still say that it was limited and wouldn't allow me to go on wifi.  The computer has windows 8.1 installed now, and I've tried quite a few things including not letting windows disable wifi to save power, and I've also gone back to an older driver which some people have found helpful... anyways if someone could help me that would be amazing!! Thanks xD

Hi everyone.i've recently bought the pc and  this problem shows up when i'm not in the same room of the router ( the speed of the other computers is basically the same in every room of my house). As a matter of fact near the router my download speed it's about 30 mbps while in other rooms the speed can't barely reach 1 mbps.I can understand a substantial loss of speed due to the distance but i don't think that the problem it's the distance itself.I've tried to update the driver of the network adapter (Broadcom 802.11a) and other things but i can't fix the situation. My operating system it's Windows 8.1.Thank you and i hope you can help me

Hello, I've been having a couple of problems with my WiFi and thought I'd look for an updated driver. The trouble is, when I go to the Lenovo support site, there is nothing for the Broadcom wifi card :-S Details are:Device Manager name: Broadcom 802.11n Network AdapterHardware Ids: ....     PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4727&SUBSYS_058714E4&REV_01     PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4727&SUBSYS_058714E4     PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4727&CC_028000     PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4727&CC_0280 So I think that means the broadcom device ID is 4727. Can anyone shed any light please? Thanks,Bri.

Answer:ideapad z580 wifi not working properly with windows 8

hi yashikabajaj08,

Welcome to the Forums.

You're issue might be similar to this thread.

If you have gotten the problem after updating the wireless driver either from the Intel website or windows update, try to  rollback the driver from the previous version or perform a System Restore to undo the changes that were made.

If the above doesn't apply to you, can you provide the wireless driver of your wifi module and try to boot into Safe Mode with Networking to isolate if there's a third party security software that might be blocking your connection.

Let me know your findings,
neokenchi

This machine has been working fine until the battery died. On purchasing a replacement and after charging I switched on the machine only to be confronted with a black screen with the icons above the keyboard flashing, then after a couple of seconds the machine re-starts with the same symptoms and continues to start-shutdown-start. I have removed the power adaptor and the battery and held down the power button for around 60 seconds without success. The reset/restore button that is located next to the power button only produces the same result when pressed.During the start-up process, NOTHING is seen on the laptop screen OR an externally connected monitor. I have also tried known good replacement RAM and hard drive and have installed a new CMOS battery but the fault persists. Can the BIOS be updated via a bootable USB flash drive without access to the screen? I seem to have a failed laptop Can anyone suggest a remedy?

Answer:what is best windows for lenovo ideapad z580 ?

Hi jimrako,

This is really a tricky question because it depends on your hardware.

The best way I can think of answering this is by providing you the requirements for each then you can check against your requirements:

Windows 10:

RAM:
1 gigabyte (GB) for 32-bit or 2 GB for 64-bit
Hard disk space:
16 GB for 32-bit OS 20 GB for 64-bit OS

Graphics card:
DirectX 9 or later with WDDM 1.0 driver
Display:
800x600
Cons: a bit of a learning curve as it changes a lot

Windows 8

Processor: 1 GHz or faster processor
Memory(RAM): 1 GB RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
Hard Disk: 16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
Graphics: DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver
Cons: Without Touch it is not intuitive

Windows 7

Processor: 1 GHz or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
Memory(RAM): 1 GB of RAM (32-bit)/2 GB of RAM (64-bit)
Hard Disk: 16 GB of available disk space (32-bit)/20 GB (64-bit)
Graphics: DirectX 9 graphics device with Windows Display Driver Model 1.0 or higher driver
Cons: None really, it is awesome

Windows XP

Processor: 233 MHz CPU
Memory(RAM): 64 MB of RAM (may limit performance and some features)
Hard Disk: 1.5 GB of available hard disk space
Graphics: Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher-resolution video adapter and monitor
Cons: No longer supported by Microsoft

Again, this is my opinion, without a touch sc... Read more

I have a Lenovo Z580 (i3-2370M) with an Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 2200 wireless adapter running on Windows 10. I have been having an obnoxious problem where WiFi becomes unresponsive when the laptop is moved, the screen is bumped, or a some combination of motion. There is no way to fix this problem without doing a hard reboot. Disabling and enabling the adapter does not work. I have tried this from the command line as well. If I attempt to shut down, the screen goes black, but the shutdown never completes and a hard shutdown is needed. I understand that this problem occurs when the adapter wires are jostled. I have taped them down more but the problem persists. While curing the problem outright would be nice (new hardware), I would like to have a way to reset the wireless adapter and necessary services in order to restore the wifi connection without a reboot. The problem seems to be that a hang occurs and the process refuses to shut down and is stuck waiting for some sort of reply. This problem was also present on Windows 7. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Dear forum,I recently bought a steinberg ur22 usb audio interface. Whenever it is connected to my aptop wj.dows will freeze sooner or later, sometimes after half an hour, sometimes after one or two hours. I cannot find anything in windows event viewer about it. I was wondering if anyone had similar issues? I have tge laptop for over a year and this was never a problem. Any ideas? Thanks!Z580Core i78gbwindows 7

Answer:ideapad z580 usb issue

Hello everyone, REply to myself. Could not get the problem fixed, returned the unit. Bought a miditech audiolink pro. But I get the same problems. What is wrong with lenovo usb? I have exhausted all options with the manufacturer. Disabled the onboard sound and it still happens. Lenovo technical support won't help because it's 3rd party hardware and it's their responsibility to make sure it's compatible. However the steinberg support said they never had this issue reported before. So it has to be something with the laptop. I cannot find anything related online happening to anyone else. So I hope someone can help me out. I bought this laptop a year ago for 800 euros hoping to use it for music production and it would be pretty bad if that money was wasted. So maybe someone from lenovo reads this and could contact me? Thanks. Regards,

Hi guys, Bit of a peculiar problem related to VPN access. Does anyone know of any software installed on fresh out of the box Z580 that might interfere with VPN connections? I'm connecting into a watchguard firewall using their VPN software and can get a link but it won't receive data (transmitting seems ok). I've tried disabling the Windows firewall but to no avail. I've never had issues installing on other Windows 7 machines so I'm deducing that there must be something Lenovo specific that regulates VPN traffic. Connection is via IPSec. Ta

I got my laptop nearly a year ago, but haven't used it due to the fact my employer bought me a laptop instead to use for business as well as personal. But I left the company, had to give back the laptop unfortunately, and now that I've been on for about an hour I'm having some problems I just don't know how to fix. My wi-fi connection works on every device except for this laptop. It'll work for 10 minutes straight, then stop and when disconnect and then reconnect it'll work for 2-5 minutes then stop working again. So I'll click troubleshoot and it'll come up with "The default gateway is not available," every time without fail and it'll say its been fixed and it'll work but 5-30 minutes later it'll repeat the whole problem and I have to troubleshoot again so it'll work, which never lasts longer than 30 minutes! It's very frustrating, especially since I'm starting to take online classes and now my computer is just completely malfunctioning. Please does anyone know what I need to do to fix this?

Answer:Help! Wi-fi Issue W/ IdeaPad z580

hi LadyAmber13,

Welcome to the Forums.

Your issue might be similar to this thread.

Can you Try to:
1. Boot in Safe Mode with Networking and observe the wireless connection. If the Wi-Fi is stable, download and run the Mcafee Removal tool. When finished, reboot the computer and observe

2. As per jimjam1022's post, disabling Windows Firewal and performing a winsock reset helps solves the issue. To do a winsock reset, run a command prompt as admin and type the following (press enter after each line):

ipconfig /flushdns
netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset

Hope this helps

Hello everyone ,I wanted to ask few questions about my laptop and also have few issues with my laptop.I would be highly thankful if anyone helps me through. My Laptop's Configuration : Core i7 (2.1Ghz , 6MB ),8 GB RAM , NVIDIA 2GB , 1TB HDD ( 5400 rpm ). DVD Writer etc.  Operating System : Windows 8.11.  MY laptop is all fine. But it is somewhat slow.actually not somewhat but its actually slow and i believe that the main performance bottleneck is the HDD ( 5400 rpm ) , so now i am thinking of replacing the HDD with a SSD.Thats fine enough ? what i want now is that i want to remove the DVD Writer of my laptop and put this 1TB HDD in a bay adapter there.i am thinkng of getting a 120GB Samsung 840 Pro series SSD ( isn't that enough ) that i would write the operating system to and the program files and the rest stuff on the 1TB HDD.Would it work ?  if it would where do i get the bay adpater that would fit in the laptop without causing problems ? i want the bay adapter from lenovo or any other reputed company.also , i am from india the thing must be available here.I have seen many bay adapters available but they aren't avaiable for india. Please suggest where i could get it ?2.  As you may have seen the laptop configuration my laptop battery doesn't give me that much of a back up.it gives me 2 hours and 15 minutes when in power saver mode , full brightness reduction and the NVIDIA has been disabled in BIOS.i want a 9 cell option for this instead of 6 cel... I'm trying to remove the Lenovo Ideapad Z580 keyboard, as I'm having keyboard issues and common symptoms on the internet seem to suggest that my internal keyboard connector is loose. Now I followed the directions on the Service Manual but one of the steps, after removing the necessary screws, seems to require me to press on the keyboard from behind. However no matter how much force I apply the keyboard doesn't pop out and I'm nervous about applying more force/trying more, as the tools I use to try and push the keyboard out are making marks. I've made sure a dozen times and more that all the necessary screws were out but no dice. Do I have to apply more force? Am I pushing it the wrong way? The manual is a bit unclear on this step. Help!  The keyboard desperately needs to be corrected, as it goes through periods of 30 min.- an hour of spastic non-function and I really need it to not happen to me during important work sessions.

Answer:Removing the Lenovo Ideapad Z580 keyboard

Hi martyback, welcome to the forums,

the keyboard needs to be pressed down and gently pushed towards the front of the system and then lifted from the rear of the keyboard. If your tools are making marks they're probably metal? Try using something thin and made of plastic like a credit card.

Don't know if you've already found them, but you could look at the Lenovo movies.  Go to FRU Videos > FRU Service Keyboard.  (Also not exactly how I describe it above, but may be of help).

Hello everyone, I've just bought used Lenovo IP Z580 white (without OS), installed Windows 7 64bit and every 2-3 days I have problem with it. I've installed all drivers, the pc works fine, but as I said, I got a problem with restarting. On the screen shows Lenovo logo, then it disappears and it restarts in the cycle. I have tryied various BIOS settings, when the SATA controller mode is on "AHCI", windows will not boot and it crashes with BSoD and there's no chance to start the system. when it's on the second option "Compatible", it works often but with this setting it will doing the problem with restarting.  I know, this post/problem was here already, but I tryied to do, what u were advising and my problem still persists. I am trying to find the final solution and the Win7 will be stable and reliable. I know that, when this ntb was made, there wasn't any Windows 8, nevertheless I don't want Win 8. Now I can only flash the BIOS, it is the last thing, I can do. If the problem will persist, I don't know what should I do with the notebook. (I can return it to the shop only). If you need my system specs or something, just ask. Sorry for my bad English, thanks for your replies

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad Z580 - Restarting during boot

Seeme to be a motherboard or HDD issue.

You should get a technician look at it or preferably, return it for another laptop. If a newly bought laptop is doing that, it doesnt sound good for its future.

I've recently been having issues with both my wireless adapter and the cooling fan in my Z580. I upgraded to Windows 10 about 1 year ago. My fan does not seem to work at all, I can't hear it and the laptop climbs to very high temperatures. More recently the Wifi has been disconnecting and my router disapears from the list. Switching on and off the computer helps 80% of the time. I'm not exactly sure of where to start to try and resolve this.

Hi, I just purchased a brand new, in-the-box Lenovo IdeaPad Z580 laptop. It was advertised as having built-in Bluetooth technology. I just received the computer in the mail today. When I took the computer out of the box and booted it, I noticed that there was no icon for Bluetooth anywhere. I downloaded a driver off Lenovo's website and tried to install it, but the driver crashed in mid-installation. Some websites suggest checking the BIOS and enabling/disabling (and re-enabling) Bluetooth under the settings, but when I go to the settings, there is no Bluetooth device listed. Lenovo website says that to edit Bluetooth settings, you must press Fn/F5 simultaneously. When I do this, all that comes up is a screen with settings for my Wireless Network Card. There is supposed to be both Bluetooth and Wireless there. Other people have said they have experienced this situation as well, but nobody seems to have a solution online. I am using the packaged OS (Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit). Device Manager does not list any Bluetooth device, from what I can see. What gives? It's a brand new machine.

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Z580 Bluetooth Problem

There should be an BT enable/disable option in your bios, but as you have said you cannot find one, the box that you Z580 came in has the specifications on a white label on the  side, mine says BT 2.1 even though it`s BT 4.0 , you might not have BT have a look. EDIT : I had to remove the cover off the bottom of my Z580 to check the wifi card model  i had, it`s only 1 screw, take a photo and post it here, you will not invalidate your warranty as long as you dont damage anything. EDIT 2: the link below is a photo of my wifi card in my Z580 the part circuled in red is the lenovo part number, which is listed in the service manual pdf as an Broadcom BCM4313 + BT4.0 Post what the number is on your wifi card and i should be able to tell if you have bluetooth. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/policeman999/wificard_zpsa5bfef89.jpg John.

hi ciscosoft,

Can you try the following:
1, Boot into Windows (on the stock HDD) and insert the 2.5" SSD on a  2.5" USB SATA Enclosure.
2. Download and install  Paragon Backup & Recovery 12 Home (free trial)
3. Run the Paragon Backup & Recovery 12 Home and choose Hard Disk Migration to migrate the OS from the HDD into the SSD (see complete guide here)

4. When finished, shut the computer off, take out the HDD (see page 35-39 of the hardware maintenance manual), remove the SSD out of the USB enclosure and insert it in the laptop.

5. Turn the computer ON and observe (if the boot priority is different, you may need to press F12 on power-up and choose the SSD drive to boot into Windows).

Hope this helps

I am considering getting the z580 (model# 215168U) at lenovo website due to their free return/no restocking fee offer. Still, I would be disappointed if I had to return it after trying. Many people on this forum apparently had issues with no customer support/resolution with Thinkpad edge e530, the laptop I initially considered buying. I do not want to be in their shoes. So, z580 a reliable purchase from lenovo.com in your experience (those who bought)? I am assuming that I would be on my own if the laptop has any issues  based on some experiences posted here.

Hello, Recently I bought Lenovo IdeaPad z580 (model 20135), I really like it, but I have problem with it's partitions,  it come with 4 partitions    - 200 MB Windows boot.    - 420 GB Windows 7 OS.    - 30 GB Derives.    - 20G Rescue System. All of them are "primary" partitions, how I can make logical partitions without delete any of them? I really tried to search and read many posts in forum, but I can't get any satisfactory answer. Thanks In advance :-)

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad z580 with 4 primary partitions!

Hi and welcome to the communityIf you didnt play with the partitions and these are the factory default partitions then theWindows boot and windows 7 os partitions are system partition. The 30 gb partition is the logical drive/partition and20gb partition is the oem partition.Maybe a snapshot of the disk management would tell us better. So please post the snashot.

I used my Z580 for like 3-4 years and noticed my Escape key was sticky and crunchy. So I cleaned it and after I cleaned it I noticed the Escape key was loose and often fell off. Please help me!

Hello, Firstly my apologies for starting a new thread similar to others. I have read a lot of different threads concerning models similar to, but not the same as, my own; the Ideapad Z580, but none of the advice has solved the problem: My battery is failing to charge, either reporting the 'No battery is detected' message, or 'Plugged in not charging' when attempting to charge. When the AC adaptor is unplugged the laptop shuts down within a few seconds So far I have tried: -Shutting down, removing battery, holding down power button for 30 seconds, reinstalling battery, rebooting. -Updating and uninstalling the 'Microsoft ACPI - Compliant Control Method Battery' driver: system won't update because it says it's the latest driver, when I uninstall and restart it has reappeared. -Running a complete gauge reset with the Lenovo Energy Management tools. -Reinstalling Lenovo Energy Management - although I was unable to find the same version so am now using the Z570 software. None of which has worked. Does anyone have anything else I should try? Many thanks, Colin

Answer:Battery Issue with Ideapad Z580

Welcome to the forum! I ran into a similar problem a while back with my Z570.  No matter what I tried the battery would not take a charge or indicate that it was charging while plugged in.  Given the various postings I've seen regarding this problem with the IdeaPads I decided to try different approaches to resolve this buggy behavior.  What finally resolve the problem in my case was using a Linux boot disc to boot up an operating system different than Windows. Once booted, I played with Linux several minutes so the battery would start charging again then I booted the machine back into Windows 7.  Problem solved.  My best guess, there is a bug somewhere between the Windows OS and the hardware of the machine.  That booting the system to a non-Windows environment corrects the problem.

Hey guys!I´ve encountered another issue with my laptop. Its my touchpad. After starting a system it reacts only as a pointing device without any scrolling, rolling etc. I can get through this only when I adjust some settings in Synaptics preferences located in control panel/mouse. DO you have any ideas how can I make it done without opening the control panel after every single startup ?  Ive downloaded the latest synaptics driver but was unable to open it after an error message appeared saying "Its not a valid Win32 application" Thank you for your ideas,George

My z580 laptop screen shows screen artifacts/flickering when I move the screen. When it is left untouched, the screen output is normal. With an external monitor while still using the laptop screen, the external monitor's picture is unaffected when I move the laptop screen.I get the same issue when I move the screen during boot up.I bought the laptop in September so its still under warranty, but I'd like to hear some ideas as to what the problem may be.

Answer:Ideapad z580 display issue

Ok so I want to take it in to get it fixed. I want to take it to one of the service providers/centers listed on the lenovo website. Since it is still under warranty do I need to contact Lenovo first? Sorry for the newbie question. Never had to take advantage of a warranty for my previous laptops. Their hardware failures occured during the end of their lifespan.

Hello all, I bought a new Ideapad z580 laptop a few weeks ago: Intel Core i7 3612QM 2.1GHz (3.1GHz with Intel TurboBoost)8GB RAM1Tb HDD2GB Nvidia GT630 GraphicsWindows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.(I'm using the 15.6inch display and a seperate Samsung monitor in a dual screen setup)I've been having some issues with the display. On starting the computer, when the starting Windows logo comes up, several horizontal lines appear across the screen and the windows logo moves around, up and down rather than staying in a fixed place like normal laptops. Upon logging in, the screen looks ok but the bottom half of the screen keeps blacking out for half a second and then returning to normal (it seems to do this more when I first turn on the laptop and then disappears after a bit). Further to this issue, thin green horizontal lines keep appearing on the screen randomly and then disappearing after a split second (I could be just web browsing or I could be playing a game). I have had this issue from day one. I have attempted to fix it by reinstalling the Intel Graphics and NVidia drivers that were stored on the D: drive partition (the ones that came with the machine). I have also tried installing the ones located on the support website but they don't seem to resolve the issue either after restarting the PC. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Hello, I have recently bought a brand new IdeaPad z580 for my sister and she called me today because she was having a problem with the battery. Before I gave her the laptop I put a clean win7 install on it and manually installed the lenovo drivers. Now what's happened is she charged her laptop overnight and when she started using it the next day win7 gave her the "consider replacing the battery" notice with the battery icon and the red cross in it. So this means the battery is not charging and the laptop can't function on the battery. Now I've searched the forums and came across a few "battery not charging" topics and I've not found a solution. I've tried removing the battery and pressing the start button for 40 secs (what does that even do on a dead laptop?), changing the settings in energy management and re-installing energy management. Nothing works... I think it may have something to do with the BIOS, which may not properly be reading the "design capacity" and/or "last full charge" information. Could my assumption be correct? And if so/if not, what should I do? I mean the laptop was bought 3 weeks ago, it has to be some sort of software problem right? Please help! Thanks in advance!

I have two Z580 i have only had them a few day, so apart from calibrating the battery, as the wear level on both was 7% after calibration it went to 0% , i have had no problems. If you have access to a voltage tester, the service manual describes how to check the battery voltage it should be above 9volts, check page 22. edit : Hwmonitor software below will show you the battery voltage. http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/ideapad_z380_z480_z485_z580_z585_hmm_1st_edition_feb... John.

Answer:IdeaPad z580 Freezing Issue

Hi

Welcome To Lenovo Community

We are really sorry to hear about the issue you were facing,

Since you are not get the same behavior in  safe-boot Windows ,  it's likely a corrupt driver or driver conflict. You might also want to try booting a Linux Live cd. if you get normal behavior, that would likely rule out a true hardware fault and put it back on Windows or drivers .
Also try disabling the trackpad and check
Also try uninstalling the touchpad driver. Then after rebooting go to http://www.synaptics.com/resources/drivers/ and downloaded " Windows XP/Vista and Win7 64-bit Edition v15.2.20"
Do give this a try and let us know the results

Hope This Helps

Info- I am using a Lenovo IdeaPad Z580 with windows 8
So just earlier today my wifi was working fine. Then randomly I lose wifi and it won't list any networks that I can connect to. I did some troubleshooting and it says that my Software Radio is off. How do I turn it back on? I do not have a switch or button anywhere that I can see on my laptop.

Answer:Solved: Lenovo IdeaPad Z580- Software Radio off

Normally the radio button is in the control panel under wifi/ or wireless adapters. You will be able to turn it on/off from there.

So heres my problem, i wont lie my z580 aint new one , its been guess already 2-3 years; well for the first year, remember being able to change uefi settings, but then it somehow was unchangeable; however i didnt think that it ll be an issue, i mean no big deal, at least not worthy to register in forums or contacting support center as m tooo lazy; well then 2-3 days ago i accidentally deleted windows 8 boot entry, and its not big deal as with cmd u can back it up, however i tried with shift + reboot automatic repair first as i knew if i turn pc off i wdnt be able to boot as no bios option available and thought automatic repair is guaranteed option however it turned out that automatic repair cdnt fix it and it made me reboot, and thats how i got stuck and not being able to change anything, whenever u boot it says bcd is missing, and only available option is esc=change uefi settings which ll just reboot and endless loop, i tried every combination keys to try to discover that bios key, nothing, and here is the problem even if i try to repair with windows 8 cd it wont boot it, it ll just keep saying bcd is missing as i cant prioritize cd rom over hdd; so after rampaging for 5 hours i discovered some new option, it turns out that novo button actually works but instead of pressing it when laptop is booting u have to press it while its turned off, and then 4 new menus but after trying them all i discovred that they dont function as well at least half of them , as bios setup and norm... Hi, i Have recently updated my Ideapad Z580 to windows 8. While using the power management application i came to know it misses out the modes as it was in Windows 7. Its does not even shows up the visual display when you press the Thermal management key.  I have to go to the hidden icon tab to select the Energy management, wherein there are options which i cannot understand what are they use for like Intelligent power saver. The options provided are very different from the ones provided in the Windows 7 version. Also, the function keys & other keypad layout got changed when i upgraded to Windows 8. Like the function for turning the Wi-Fi & bluetooth in windows 7 got changed. To write special character (@) changed. its now typing (") when upgraded to windows 8. Function key feature (Fn+F4) not working in windows 8. Can anyone tell me is the windows 8 Energy management application better than the windows 7 one or viceversa. if not, is lenovo trying to upgrade the features in the windows 8 version of energy management application & other applications like in the windows 7 ones.   Thank you.

Since you are facing issues with the new version of Lenovo energy management, you can uninstall the current version of energy management and try installing Lenovo energy management to check if the FN keys are working correctly

Then download and install the following

Power Management Software 8.0.2.4   --- 32 Bit

Power Management Software 8.0.2.4 --- 64 Bit

Also for change in the input method for special characters please verify if you have selected the right keyboard layout
To verify that Open Control Panel Switch to icon view, select Language

Just to preface this - I am pretty well versed in computers, have helped friends and family with numerous computer issues and only get tech support involved as a last ditch effort if its beyond software/driver issues. So I buy my daughter a refub Z580 quad core Win 8 laptop directly from Lenovo last June 2013 for her birthday - Her first laptop.  First Lenovo laptop I have purchased. Besides the horrible touchpad (Which I turned off)  Immediately the laptop has sound issues which require me to send in to repair as it was a hardware issue.  Then over the last year and 2 months have fought with Internet connectivity issues - coming out of sleep it or starting up it can't see a connection, even though its there.  I have tried all the fixes, updating drivers, reverting drivers, turning off power saving etc. Well the latest, and probably the last thing to happen is my daughter turns it on the other day and display has just static vertical streaks on the right side of the screen for about 2 inches to the right edge -  So either the display is shot already or the graphics card, and this conveniently happens 2 months after the warranty ends.  Also, since Win8 uses a charms bar on the right side, can't even use that.  So I am trying to plug in a VGA external monitor to determine if the issue is the screen itself or the graphics card/processor.  Can't seem to get the computer to recognize a vga cable is plugged in - What do I do to acti... Hi there I am unable to enter the bios on my Z580 ideapad. This was after I discovered that I cannot change the boot sequence (to install the Windows 8.1 preview via ISO). I have attempted all the following options without success:1. Hit F2 during boot2. Hit FN-F2 during boot3. Hold down B during boot4. Use the Lenovo OneKey recovery button, and selecting the option Bios Setting (this should definitely work)5. Windows 8 Advanced Restart6. Tried F5, F8, F10, F11 and F12 during boot7. Tried DEL button during boot8. Turning off Windows fastboot and re-attempting steps 1 to 7 above. Nothing works. Lenovo, why is this not working? RegardsJoe

Hey,

I seem to be having an issue with the wireless on my Lenovo Ideapad Z580.

After a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate I have no wireless. The "Network Controller" controller comes up as flagged under Device Manager. Installing the wireless drivers provided from the official website doesn't help, they either tell me I don't have the correct hardware or tell me it hasn't installs and gives me the option to reinstall using recommended settings, which also doesn't help.

Any help at all would be really appreciated. Thanks.

Hello everyone, I frequently face this problem for atleast twice a week. My laptop suddenly disconnects from WI-FI when I move from one place to another(from room to campus or lab to class, class to room) or when it is switched ON from sleep mode or  hibernate mode. I see a cross mark 'X' on the wi-fi bars. When I click to diagnose the problem it shows network adapter has been disabled and when I click to fix it, it then enables the adapter and connects to Wi-Fi but this process is successful only a few times. Most of the times diagnosing also doesn't work and I am forced to restart my laptop. When it restarts I land on a blue screen showing some system crash info for about 5-10 sec and  then it reverts back to normal windows OS login page. Then it works correctly and connects to wi-fi. And this process is repeated if I go to a different place or if I turn my laptop to sleep mode again. Please help me with this issue.

Hi, i purchased a lenovo Z580 with windows 7 HB,  i5 processor & 4gb ram on November 2012. Initially it took approximately 24 second to start but after reformatting it with the optical disks some days ago the startup time has become 50 seconds to 1 minute. I optimized the laptop using boot optimizer but that did not help since it is taking the same 1 minute start up and its asking repeatedly for optimization.the laptop has not been heavily used also During this time any sort of window service has not been enabled or has any new programme or application been installed. At the service center they are telling me that a 1 minute boot time is a not a big issue but then the Enhanced Experience 3 technology in the laptop is becoming useless. Hello, I bought an ideapad z580 not to long ago with Windows 8 and I have had only one recurring issue with it. My wireless internet connection will go unavailable often. I know it's not my actual internet that is the issue, because it works perfect on my other laptop and I've never had this issue. Every time my internet disconnects, I try to reconnect it but it won't, which results in having to restart my computer and then it works fine afterwards, but eventually it will disconnect again. Like I said before, I know it's not my wifi connection. It works 100% until it disconnects and then, like I said, I have to restart my computer every time. I have no idea why it keeps doing this and I can't figure it out, so I was hoping someone could walk me through some steps to troubleshoot or perhaps if someone just knows what's going on, that would be splendid.

Answer:Ideapad z580 wireless connection issue

Same exact problem for me too! very frustrating. The connection will just randomly drop. It happens alot wen my comp goes to sleep and i wake it back up to find its disconnected, but also wen im actively using it. i have to play around with the connection, going back and forth between connecting and disconnecting until it works. the other way to get it to reconnect is to restart. Sometimes if i let the comp sit for a while it will reconnect on its own. The other thing is wen it disconnects and i look for active networks, my router is still there in the list. if i try to connect its works for a while and then eventually says cant connect to this network. All other computers work fine on the same router, never have disconnect probs. just seems like a very random prob with this computer or its wireless card. im running windows 8 on a lenovo ideapad z580. belkin router. intel centrino wireless n-2200 card. thanks for any help.

Yesterday it did the dame thing and I tried it again. This time it went through the process but the when it was time to reboot, the screen remained blank..Its not dark..its lit just a little and all the lights are on. I made sure the lcd screen was turned on but it still wont do anything at all. Please help??

Hello bree1234 and welcome to TSG.

I'm guessing it's not but if it's still under warranty send it for repair.

Is the screen completely blank all the time, no text or anything else is displayed at all ?

Lenovo Ideapad z580 Win10 64 I updated the bios with the private update (I know now that I should have used the public update) Then it showed this menu:http://i.imgur.com/kZaO2tf.jpg Whenever I selected HDD, the screen would go black for a couple of seconds and return to this menu. I fixed it by going into BIOS and changing bootmode from UEFI to Legacy. it booted but now everything is slow. It takes 5 mins to boot up and a further 15 minutes to reach usable speeds (I only have 4 startup programs). I tried changing it back to UEFI and it gives me the same problem as shown in the picture. I tried installing the public update, but it says that I cannot update as the current bios version is the same or newer. I went into BIOS and enabled BIOS back flash, and now when I try to start the public update, it just crashes. I also cannot access the start menu (this problem may be seperate and unrelated) I have backed up files and am prepared to do a clean reinstall of Win10, but I feel this won't work as it's a BIOS issue. The computer is unusably slow: what should I do? Thanks

Recently my Z580 has been typing characters (specifiaclly a period) repeatedly, without me having pressed any key, whenever I open any applicaiton or software (such as notepad or the internet). Also whenever I press the b or n key it begins doing the same thing and types periods without stopping. I've tried cleaning the keayboard, but that didn't work. I have also tried booting in safe mode to see if the problem persisted and it did. I've scanned my computer for viruses as well but found nothing. So I'm out of ideas as to what to do. Thanks for the help

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Z580 - unusual keyboard/typing issues

hi alebarraza,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

If the system is still within warranty, It would be best if you call Technical Team and ask fo assistance, I believe it is the Keyboard it self or the Keyboard cable that is causing this.

If the system is Already out of warranty, you can check this Maintenance Manual of z580 on how to get to the keyboard connection. With that you can reseat the Keyboard Cable and see if that helps.

Hope this helps
Cheers!

Hi, Greetings!!! This is my first post to this forum as i bought my lenovo IDEAPAD Z580 laptop recently. I read the much about Disk Partitions and one key recovery query. Now, I decided that i wont bother about OKR and will go for fresh partition my disk drive as per my needs and a fresh installation of WIN7.So, my question is, what software and drivers i need to backup first so i will have all per-installed softwares/fucntion - keys working correctly except OKR after installation from scratch? Is backing up  all which are there in Lenovo_Driver Folder will serve the purpose? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Need all Softwares and Driver list required for LENOVO IDEAPAD Z580

Hi

Welcome To Lenovo Community

Since you wish to perform a fresh instillation, I would recommend that you first create a copy of recovery DVD?s using OKR, Then you can manually copy all the drivers from Lenovo Driver Folder to an external drive or thumb drive. You can also download all drivers from our support website

I want to go for extended warranty pack up.And how to update the warranty details for 2 years

Answer:what is the procedure for extended warranty pack for lenovo ideapad z580

hi vamsilenovo,

Thanks for Posting!

As far as I know as long as  the system is within the First year from the date of purchase the warranty can be extended and limited to three years Maximum.
And For upgrades some system only has a certain period from purchased date when they can upgrade the warranty.
Extension and Upgrades can be combine when purchased.

Warranty extensions and upgrades may vary depending on country and region.
I suggest to call you Local Support line about the Warranty Extension and upgrade.

Hi, I am having a weird wifi issue. I have been using my lenovo z580 with windows 8 for the past 8 months without any problem. But suddenly a week back my laptop's wifi started disconnecting after 5-10 mins of usage. Then if i reboot my laptop the wifi works for 5-10 mins again and disconnects. I have gone through some of the posts here and disabled the Bluetooth tray application, updated LEM, wifi drivers, but still i cant fix the issue. I have found a temporary solution. If i put my laptop into sleep mode and bring it back again, the wifi starts working. but again it will work for only 10 mins. apparently i am having to do this fix every 10 mins which is annoying. I even tried reinstalling windows 8 but still there has been no improvement. Can anyone suggest why this might be happening? do i have to go to the service center to replace any hardware?

Hello, fellow Lenovo users, i have a serious and reoccuring wifi problem with my z580 equipped with Broadcom 802.11 n and windows 8.1. I know many of you had the limited connection problem, and I read many forums and supposed solutions, but I think my situation is even worse if possible.  Although the connection is regularly lost, (limited) when i disconnect and reconnect, a massive freeze happens, the sreen stops, the mouse is not moving neither. Afterward, sometimes the system comes back alive. However, even if it does, no wifi is avaiable as no adapter is recognised as installed.Several restart can cure it for some minutes, than the whole procedure starts over. On linux, no such problem occured, thus I assume it is a driver problem. This is very frustrating, please help me if you have any idea. What I tried so far: reinstall the adapter from the lenovo sitereinstall it by windows updatemanually installing the broadcom multiband drivermanually installing the broadcom drivermanually installing the microsoft driverswithing of the adapter sleeping function paland3

Hello friends, I have been struggling with my 4 year Lenovo Z580 ideapad that abruptly getting turned Off within 45/50 seconds of every power On. It's just instant and with small click noise. Upon continuous attempts i used to get very rare successful boots (keeping itself turned on even for hours/full day) upon 20/30 power on attempts with varying time intervals. Meanwhile i managed to run lenovo diags basic/extended on all peripherals with no errors, and managed to repair broken win 10 system/boot files couple of times thinking its BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO as it used to prompt earlier when it last powered on atleast for 2 minutes, But since couple of days its ALWAYS switching off within a Minute! Upon a lot of research i thought it could be since corrupted BIOS (might be caused by overheating CPU and fan not working for couple of weeks!) and as it also getting off upon simple DOS boots. So today, i decided to flash BIOS and followed instructions in a mail chain (https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-Lenovo-Z580-BIOS-Mod-V3-1-FINAL-02-07-DOWNLOAD) as can't boot Win 10 anymore, Started flashing BIOS-Mod-V3-1... via a USB stick i prepared, though i'm quite fearful about an abrupt shutdown! My fate, it got powered off during flash progress just when FPT client erased my current BIOS and when about to write new files **bleep**! As a result it seems i lost current/damaged BIOS and now if i try to boot, it starts with black screen! a new gift. Ofcourse i'm able to s... Read more

Hello, I got this new Lenovo idepad from Staples store here in the US. On 15th day, I am getting problems as my adapter is not charging my laptop when I insert it in the laptop. I have to move teh wire and it starts charging, case of lose connection. Also my laptop catches the wifi late comapred to my other laptops. I called staples to return it but they say that they have 14 day return policy and now I will have to contact the manufacturer. Lenovo says, they cannot take my product since i got it from a retail store. I am stuck with a product after paying for it. I request Lenovo people to please address my issue and get in touch with me. I think, I should get a replacement for it. Please help. Dharmil
