Z580 Failure during Windows Update

Question: Z580 Failure during Windows Update

Hi there - I purchased a new Z580 last week, Windows 7 was applying some updates earlier today and gave the usual message at the end during shutdown showing the progress of the updates being applied (e.g 20 of 38) along with the message not to unplug or switch off the laptop. Unfornatunately my son pressed the power button before all the updates were complete and windows will now not load. Can you please advise whether it is possible to go back to the factory settings either using the OneKey Recovery or some other method? I had not created a backup as it I have only used the laptop twice since purchasing. Thank you

Preferred Solution: Z580 Failure during Windows Update

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Z580 Failure during Windows Update

When you press power button start pressing F8 till advanced boot option turns up. Then navigate to repair your computer and press enter. Then wait till computer boots to repairing environmenr. Then either do a startup repair or a system repair to any point. If this also does not start, then do a one key recovery.

I'm trying to fix my sister's laptop which was obviously infected with a ton of stuff. First, I ran SuperAntiSpyware; it found and deleted 81 threats. Then I ran MBAM and it found 9-10 threats. I ran HJTthis a few times and it found and fixed 5-6 threats. Finally, I ran SpybotSD from a thumb drive and it found a couple things. I also installed Windows Essentials. Symptoms:- on bootup, sometimes it tries to check the disk, then cancels itself- Windows Help and Support starts as soon as the desktop shows. When I click the X, it closes and immediately pops back up.- IE doesn't work at all.- I installed Firefox. It worked fine at first, then randomly started redirecting me when I tried to click results on Google- I tried to run spybot installer to install the program on the computer, but it failed when it started unpacking.- I tried to run Windows update but it would start to download, then fail- when I tried to run Gmer as directed in your instructions, it caused the following: + message that said taskmgr.exe was corrupt, please run chkdsk + message that said gmer.exe was corrupt, please run chkdsk + logonscreensaver stopped responding, and screen went whiteDDS (Ver_10-03-17.01) - NTFSx86 Run by Owner at 16:18:17.62 on Fri 05/28/2010Internet Explorer: 7.0.6000.17037Microsoft? Hello

First of all, I thank you for your attention.

I cannot perform any "Windows update" issue since the 23/08/2016.

Each time I reach the "Windows Update" screen, I get the following error message :

In french : "Redémarrer l'ordinateur pour installer d'importantes mises à jour"

In english: "Restart the computer to install importante updates"

Then, after rebooting, nothing change.

After further investigations, I get the following error message:

In French : "windows update ne peut pas actuellement rechercher des mises à jour car vous devez tout d'abord redémarrer votre ordinateur afin de terminer l'installation précédente."

In English : "windows update cannot research update because you must first restart your computer in order to finish the previous installation".

Then, I've recreated a new catalog by executing these commands:

net stop wuauserv

ren %windir%\SoftwareDistribution SoftDist.old

net start wuauserv

Now all services are running but I still cannot perform updates.

The right click button no longer works on my touchpad or mouse. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, among many other fixes. Nothing has worked thus far. Any suggestions?

Answer:IdeaPad Z580 right click function does not work after Windows 8.1 update

If it is some hardware issue it cannot be fixed using synaptics driver installation but if you are talking about 2finger tapping action for right click then here is the solution.install latest synaptics driver for windows 8.1 from lenovo website , then restart your system. After restart , press    (windows+R) then type "regedit" then open registery editor, now use the picture to navigate to that registery entry, then check for the entry '2FingerTapAction'  . if its not there create new dword using right click and then change its name exactly as '2FingerTapAction' and now change its value to '2' , sign out once , then it should work fine

I have an eMachines 333i computer (yes I know how bad it is, but it was all I could afford) that uses Windows 98 and recently in the last year I have develped some problems using the computer.I had to do a complete re-install of windows, but since it was an emachine and I did not have a working floppy drive to boot from, nor a windows 98 CD (the copy is on the hard drive I would need to format) I probly didn't do a clean install.  ANd since I have been having trouble finding work I really cannot afford to take it into a shop and get it fixed, so I hae been using other peoples computers to get information, and figure out how to fix the problems.I was able to get it hooked up to the internet (I use a ethernet card to hook up to my cable modem, which my parents pay for) but I am left using Intertnet explorer 4.0  When I load up a page with lots of java or scripts (like msn.com) the page stops loading and a error window pops up saying "there was an error running script.. do you want to continue using scripts on this page (y/n)" the formatting of the page gets skewed, and I can no longer access my hotmail because of al lthe page errors. for some internet sites Internet explorer will just crash, and end up restarting windows explorerI tried using the windows update, but I get the microsoft page in IE that says it was an invalid addressI was able to downlaod the IE6setup.exe but when I run it it says there are programs on the computer waiting for a reboot to fini... I have an Ideapad Z580. I believe the hard drive is malfunctioning. I get a very loud Clicking noise When powering on, resuming or sometimes while working.  Windows will freeze for a few minutes then I get the BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death). Sometimes the BIOS will hang when rebooting.  When booting into the Boot Manager, sometimes the Hard drive will show up as an option and sometimes it will not.  I believe the hard drive is a Samsung Spinpoint M8 (500 Gigs). Assuming it is the hard drive dying (and not something else). I am going to need a new hard drive.   Based on the research I have done, the particular Z580 I own DOES support SATA 3 (6Gb/s) (at least the chipset does).     There aren't allot of 2.5" drives that support SATA 3 (6Gb/s) yet. Western digital is not an option. The only Seagate drive that support SATA 3 (6Gb/s) are the hybrid drives now know as SSHD's. I can't consider them at the moment for cost reasons. That leaves me Toshiba, and Hitachi (HGST).  My questions are 1). given the info above, is my hard drive dying or could it be something else?  2) How are the Hitachi Travelstar 5K1000 Drives? ( I have never own a Travelstar drive).

One way to find out is to read the reader's comments section of that particular drive. Just go to say amazon or newegg and search. Note that some comments are not really true and are biased but most will give you some interesting info to help you decide.

Hi guys, I've been having this problem the last few days where I am unable to update my trend micro antivirus. Every time i try to update i receive a message saying "could not connect to the server, please check your internet connection"" despite having full internet access. I have also been having problems with windows update, where updates continuously fail whenever i try to update them. Additionally i noticed that while browsing the internet my connection occasionally timed out, so i pinged a large website like goal.com on cmd and saw that the connection timed out. I ran a full antivirus scan using the trend micro and the kaspersky tool (KVRT.exe) and found no threats to be detected. I also tried using malwarebytes to scan the computer but when i installed it it required to update its databases before scanning and hence that update also timed out. I tried flushing the dns and and resetting the ip using netsh as well as other past solutions found on here to no avail. Your help and time would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I have been attempting various 'fixes' on a Dell Inspiron N5010 laptop since the release of Windows-10 Build-1511.  The original Win-10 installation was fine but the 1511 Update consistently failed at 40% (23% into the Drivers & Features part).  Non of the 'fixes I tried actually worked and the installation continued to collapse at 40%.
Last night I was trying a new (to me) Driver Updating program from Auslogics (Driver Updater) in an attempt to fix an issue on my Advent Desktop - after purchasing the full copy of the driver updater it downloaded drivers which other driver update programs had not found before and it DID fix my issue.  Consequently, I decided to try it on the Dell laptop as I wondered if it was a driver issue that was preventing the update to Build 1511.
The Auslogics Driver Updater found half a dozen drivers that Neither Driver Max nor Driver Booster 3 had found and after installing them I tried the Windows Update again.  This time it ran through to completion without any problems at all.  I am still uncertain as to which of the drivers was the problem but obviously Microsoft needs to take a look at their update code and to download necessary drivers when an issue is identified (or at least give a more meaningful error message than merely "The update has failed".

I hope this helps others with the same or similar problems with the 1511 update.  I would be interested to hear how you go on.
Steve

Just got a brand new Ideapad U410.Pre-installed OS:  Windows 7 Home Premium.  Unwrapped it. Booted and answered questions on Windows first time install. OS installed nicely. (Windows is installed with English language, not that I believe it makes a difference to the case at hand) Then as my very first action I went into Windows Update and searched for updates. It found 51 updates to install, not counting those that are Optional that I didn't opt for. This is no surprise. The label says the system was manufactured in late August this year so not so strange that there are quite a few updates to install. So I ask to have these installed. Unfortunately it fails. I get this message: Error: Failure configuring Windows updates. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer when you try to install Windows Updates For this reason I follow the steps in this guide from Microsoft. None of it helps. When I look into the Update History I can see that the common error code is 80071A90. Microsoft website tells me this about this error: "Windows Update error 80071A90 happens when files that are required by Windows are in use (locked) by other programs. Programs, such as antivirus programs that run when Windows starts, can lock system files."  Hmm. The system is delivered with McAfee pre-installed. I don't need that so I uninstall it completely and then repeat the process. Same problem again. Ok, so McAfee wasn't the culprit. No ma... Read more

It's possible this is an old thread, but would like fresh response(s) please. I have an Asus Flip laptop running Win 10 Home 64 bit. Recently, I've been having problems installing Windows updates, namely KB4015438. After doing some reading, I then tried downloading and installing KB4016635, both with the same error message "we couldn't complete the updates - undoing changes." I tried multiple times with the same failure result. This failure to install these (and perhaps future) updates seems to have had other ramifications - the aforementioned updates won't install, which prevents other actions from taking place.

Would really appreciate help in resolving this issue. I'm recovering from a stroke, and would ask that any instructions are detailed and step by step. I'm normally pretty good about troubleshooting many/most problems, but now need a little extra help.

Thank you in advance.

I recently had a Windows XP machine (HP Pavilion 783C), of which I performed a System Recovery. After which I noticed my SP1 update failed to connect to Microsoft's update server. I went to Microsoft and downloaded the update again and the same thing happened. My ultimate goal was to install SP3, but SP3 requires SP1 to be installed. I was left with no other option but to do an in-place install of Windows XP(OEM) SP3. This was probably the quickest option with the exception that I had to convert a Retail disk to an OEM disk before I could get the machine activated.

Has anyone else had issues installing Windows XP SP1 update? Or possibly a better solution than a re-install which will require re-activating.

Maybe what I'm asking for is a Windows XP SP1 update that doesn't phone home and require a connection to Microsoft's servers that they obviously shut down.

Answer:Windows XP SP1 update failure

Windows XP is very good but Microsoft are keen to move people on. When XP was fairly new my internet connection was a telephone modem. Large downloads were not very practical. I requested and received from Microsoft a free XP Service Pack 2 CD. This was posted from Germany and dated 21-03-05. It would be great if they made available for download an ISO for XP with service pack updates and including drivers for current SATA systems but I don't think it will ever happen. I'm sure people would pay to download a legitimate product.

Unless you run into a program that specifically requires Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1, I wouldn't worry about it.

Been having this for a while, and I think its affecting other functions of my system now, so I've just about had it it with this. Basically put, Windows Update cannot check for updates, neither can I access the website. The same pretty much goes for any other virus/malware scanning/removal program that needs updates of virus definitions. Latest error code is 80246002. Sometimes the updates come through, but often it will fail. Any help is appreciated!

Oh yes, using Windows Vista 32 bit OS.

Hiya, gang. I've been trying to install some Windows Updates, but every time I try it, it says all of them have failed and I get a message telling me "some of the updates could not be installed." Updates have been installing fine until now so I don't know what the problem could be. I have no re-installed XP and all of my programs are legit and authenticated. There are also no viruses or spyware on my computer, thanks to AntiVir, Spybot, SpywareBlaster, AdAware, and NoScript. The updates that are failing are as follows:Security Update for Office 2003 (KB945185)Security Update for Microsoft Office Publisher 2003 (KB946254)Update for Outlook Junk Email Filter 2003 (KB944941)Security Update for Microsoft Works Suite 2005 (KB943973)Security Update for Microsoft Office Word 2003 (KB943983)Update for Outlook 2003 (KB943649)I've tried the methods at this page: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144, but neither worked (method #2 wasn't even necessary since it's already installed). I am running Win 7 Home 64 bit and have encountered windows update issues. All suggested fixes have failed to resolve the problem so I tired to run system restore back to a date that I believed would restore the pc to a time when windows update was functional.
The restore also failed with the following window popups appearing: "Unspecified error during system restore 0xc0000022". The other popup tells me that "the program can't start because rtl120.bpl is missing. Try reinstalling the program to fix the problem". I don't know of the two error messages are related or the missing file mentioned relates to something else?
Any suggestions or guidance would be appreciated.

On Tuesday Sept 16, my desktop running Windows Vista Home Premium had an update waiting to install ( Windows update SP1 ). So I went ahead and ran the update install. All went well until the final portion. I got a message saying update failed reverting system back to pre-install state (I'm paraphrasing here ) Anyway, it restored my system and everything is running correctly, EXCEPT ( you knew there'd be and EXCEPT coming ) now it keeps telling me I have updates ready to install. ( the same one that failed ) My question is: I would like to delete this update and try to download it again. ( the download may have been corrupt ) Will doing a system restore to the day before the update download enable me to actually download the update again?

In either IE8 or Mozilla Firefox...when I go to try and get an update, I get the "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" message, on either browser. I have a feeling I may have a bug, but Avast, Malwarebytes, Spyware Blaster, nor Spybot S&D have turned up anything. I ran a malicious bug finder from MS, but nothing turned up. So, what nice little creature is keeping me from getting a needed XP windows update? (rootkit?) I've seen this before, a long time ago, and I think I gave up and simply reinstalled XP.
As of late, I have installed superanti spyware program and it found some adware tracker files, and then I quarintined them, but it still does not allow for microsoft update. If I go anywhere near microsoft update, I get the above message. I have tried to post "hyjack this logs" and I can not, because withing the logs, there is a url connected with microsoft update. If I reword the url line, I am then able to post. I was at the techsupport forum and help was attempted, slightly, but it was awhile ago and I doubt I'm going to be helped. At that time, I was advised to run the combo fix program, and I followed their instructions step by step, with no help. So I'm here, to start from scratch. Thx for lending a hand. DM

I keep getting automatic updates from Windows, but after they've been installed, I get a message saying the updates have failed. This happens to me everyday because I set my computer (Windows XP) to have the updates done automatically. Here are the updates that Windows is trying to install: Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 Update for Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x86 (KB982168)
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 Security Update for Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, and Windows XP x86 (KB979909)
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 Update for Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x86 (KB982524)
Security Update for .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 and 3.5 SP1 on Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x86 (KB983583)
This is happening to the four computers in my office, so someone suggested there might be a conflict with the accounting software we use, which is call 21st Century Accounting, made by Hilbert Software, Inc. Also, I've been told that these updates do not apply to Windows XP. Anyone have any ideas? I'm trying to avoid spending money having a computer tech fix it, if in fact it can be resolved. Can I somehow tell my computer to ignore these updates?

Answer:windows update failure

Hi,

Your issue is certainly important, and we would like to assist but we cannot help directly with company owned machines....

I've seen the same basic problem on a computer, did not happen to be accounting software but it was the same Updates for the .NET Framework..... .NET Framework certainly does apply to Windows XP, because other software can require it to be installed.

There is a fix, I have no idea if you own these computers or not, I can at least point you to a link for the fix but that is ALL we are allowed to do. The thread will be CLOSED after this reply.

I strongly urge you not to tamper yourself with company owned computers......if you are in a position to work on them, and have permission then look at the information. You could print this thread out and / or show it to
whoever else may be a supervisor or IT department or owner at the company:

Microsoft Security Update has a free help-desk for security updates. Look for the Microsoft website for security updates and you should find the help desk email address. I think you will find that you will need to delete .net framework 1,2 and 3 and re-install them all but it is not simple. Someone has written a program called something like dotnetfix which will successfully delete the registry entires, so that you can re-install it. Microsoft uses this unofficial tool themselves. Greetings:

I am running Vista Home Premium 32 bit without service pack 1 and have been trying to download windows updates for about a month now.

I get a Windows Update error message 8007000b

I ran the command prompt as administrator,
typed in fsutil resource setautoreset true C:\.

And I get a message saying

?The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable?

I have tried to download updates 1 at a time, turned off my anti virus
And tried manual updates as well.

My Error checking is not working ?windows can?t check the disk while it?s in use?
And schedule disk check does not work

The System File Checker tool gives the message
?windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them?

The windows memory diagnostic tool runs, reboots and does not display any results

Would appreciate any ideas on how and where to start

Thanks

Ok, so I have trawled all the Windows Update sites and have not been able to solve my problem. By accident I ended up on the fast ring and got stuck on 14905. The problem I have is that it downloads fine. It configures ok and then attempts to install. It reboots and gets to 1% and then quickly jumps to 15% and instantly reboots. It then 'restores to previous version of windows'. I suspect (with no expertise) it must be a setting somewhere in the BIOS as it has happened to Windows Update 14926 and with the latest 14931. Any of you guys got a suggestion I could try only it says I have until 1 October to rectify. I'm dreading a clean install. Thanks in advance

I couldn't get Windows Update to install today's (4-4-17) definitions update for Microsoft Security Essentials for Win 7, 32-bit. Gives error code 0X80070002.
Followed MS instructions to fix this error by stopping WU and deleting certain files/folders from the SoftwareDistribution folder and then restarting WU.
Now WU just searches endlessly for updates. MSE also won't update itself, either.
Anybody else?

Answer:Windows Update failure

Update:
Ran WU Troubleshooter and it fixed some errors. WU then found a bunch of old updates that I'd previously hidden, along with today's MSE definitions. I accepted one old update and today's definitions.
The old update installed but Definition Update for Microsoft Security Essentials - KB2310138 (Definition 1.239.797.0) failed again with the same 0X80070002 error code.
I googled for 1.239.797.0 and found a single result which reports an update failure today for Windows Defender Definitions with that same file number (for Win 10) but different error code. So maybe there's a problem with the definitions file itself...?
Guess I'll have to wait to see if the next MSE update gets installed.
And I just scanned with MSE which seemed to run correctly and didn't find anything.

I am trying to help someone that has an HP Model p7 - 1026, computer with an AMD Phenom II x 4840T/ 2.90 GHz processor, 6.00 GB Ram, Windows 7 64 Bit.

The problem is Windows Update. The user can access Windows Update, and it initially appears that the updates are downloaded and installed, but they are not. A subsequent update check shows the same updates need to be installed.

No error messages are displayed, no other (obvious) problems.

A Malwarebytes scan found no problems.

A Google search identified something called Windows Update Troubleshooter. Has anyone used this? If so, did it work?

I searched this forum, but could not identify anything that appeared to be relevant.

Any other suggestions?

Answer:Windows 7 update failure

Hello, I have used the Troubleshooter with various degree of success, here is one tactic that I have used in the past, from the list of updates make a note of two or three by the number at the end, then close out of Windows Updates and go on the Microsoft Support site and download those updates individually and then install them. That will determine if the issue is with OS or with the Windows Updates service (on the computer).

Hi. I was updating to windows 10 on my yoga 11s and seemed to stuck on getting ready for update downloading for a long time. 30 min +. I hit the power button and it went to "Getting Windows ready. Don't turn off you're computer. ". Can't get out of that state. Any thoughts?

Answer:Windows update failure

Hi MikefromDublin, welcome to the forum.

Depending on your Internet connection, it could take an extremely long time. Are you hard wired to the Internet, or are you trying to do it over the wireless? 30 minutes is not considered as "a long time" in regards to the Win 10 installation. If you hit the power button, and it said "Getting Windows ready. Don't turn off you're computer. " then don't.

It took me 3 hours, just going from Win 8, to Win 8.1, and that was on a 50 Mbps wired connection.

Good things come to those that watch, and wait, especially when it comes to MS full system upgrades.

Well, those are my "thoughts".

Cheers

I have my system set-up for an automatic update; however, it has come to my attention that updates have not been occuring. I tried to manually perform an update. When I do this; the Windows Update box opens, but the screen remains blank (solid white). I then cannot close it; as it seems frozen, unless I use the task manager.

I tried getting help some where else; where I always donated a little money for each successful resolution (maybe $5-$10) to a problem. Needless to say that will not be happening anymore. Someone pointed me in the direction of your site, so here I am.

I've never had an issue like this, so this is a new one on me. I know the option for Windows Repair/Reinstall is there; but this is something I want to avoid if possible.

Thank you in advance.

Please download and save it.
Right-click on the downloaded file, and select Extract all…
Extract to the default location - which will create a new folder a11aa in the same place.
Open this folder - there should be two folders inside it (Manifests, and Packages)

Copy the content of the Packages folder to the folder
C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages

And the content of the manifests folder (.manifest files) into this folder:

C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests

Now run the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)

Post the new CheckSUR.log file, and the CheckSUR.persist.log file.

My computer is running quite slowly, and has been pretty unstable of late--freezing up, etc. I've run Malwarebytes several times, which seems to catch a small handful of items each time, but that hasn't solved the problem. I've tried to run Windows Update, but each time I try, (eventually) it brings up a screen that says it's unable to connect, with the "diagnose" button, which then checks connectivity. IE still works for regular jobs (albeit very slowly, sometimes crashing). I pull up Windows Task Manager and on the Performance tab, it almost constantly is running at 100%. Several attempts to install Windows 7 updates KB2894854, KB2972216 and KB2889914 have all failed with error codes 641 and 6B7. I have also received errors 0X80070641 (Windows Installer Service could not be accessed), 0X80070057, and 0X80240009 (Installer encountered error) during my troubleshooting efforts. Also, Adobe Reader updates have failed (error 1601), Adobe Flash Player updates have failed (error 1601), Western Digital updates have failed and HP printer updates have failed. The MrFixit troubleshooting indicated it could not access Windows Installer Service. I have verified WIS is installed and running. I have also run the most recent version of AdwareCleaner, and scanned with MBAM Pro. Also ran Scannow and SURT. I am guessing I have some corrupted or missing files in the WIS.
CBS file is attached.

when trying to use 'windows update' to install various security and system updates, updates download and then fail to install, and I get the message
'
Problem: A problem on your computer is preventing updates from being downloaded or installed
Solution: To fix the problem, try installing the updates again. If that doesn't work, use the Troubleshooter to try solve the problem.
'

the troubleshooter hasn't helped any, and after four tries one gets sick of watching the system download the same updates over and over. I can install the updates by hand, locating them in microsoft's downloads and running them individually, but there's a limit to how many update packages one is willing to search out and download in this manner...
any ideas to try to fix this?
sort of a running thing I've had with winXP; error messages are so vague they're useless. like when I try to search the hard drive and get "unspecified error" or "unexpected error", but nothing tells me what the error is...

I have this same situation since 2 days ago .

I haven't spent much time trying to figure out if it's a problem with the updates or the system...or what to do about it. If I spend some time on it later today, I will post my suspicions/findings.

Hi,Since yesterday I have had the Windows Update icon in the system tray but it is stuck on 0% progress. I have Automatic selected.Trying to manually download from the WU site is also not working. Is this a temporary Microsoft service problem? Anyone else got the same problem?Regards,J

Answer:WINDOWS UPDATE FAILURE

Have you tried to double click on the windows update icon to see what update has failed, I think that there is an option after you have done this so that this update won't be included next time there is updates, it may be worth not doing the latter to see if like you say 'Temporary Microsoft service problem'

Attempts to update result in continuous 'Checking for Updates' together with CPU use of 50 to 100% and very high memory use. I have to stop this endless service (wuauserv) with Task Manager. I've seen this failure all over the internet and tried all the MSoft 'Fixit's and other remedies I could find ... all with no success.

So I guess this is my last effort before I say goodbye to this PC.

Anyway, I tried to follow the instructions for posting this thread. Here are my results

1. SURT loaded up (and ran?) to 90% then stalled (yes, I waited for an hour)
2. SFC ran and found corrupt files that it couldn't fix. I cannot attach the resulting log zip file because it exceeds the forums upload limit of 8Mb (my CAB zip file is 10 Mb)
3. During a couple of my fix attempts, somewhere (MalwareBytes?)the following error message appeared: Windows Error Not Fixed: 0x80070005 (2015-11-07T-10_31_06A)
4. My 10 Mb CBS zip file is too large to upload (see #2 above) Might there be some way around this limit?

Other than Windows Update stalling, this PC runs normally.

Thanks in advance for anything you can do to solve this very time consuming Windows Update failure.

Hello,
I have troubles with security updates  in Win10 for months now. All the time I try to install the updates it fails with several error codes.
I tried everything from re-install the updates to try a clean installation of windows 10 with the media creation tool - the installation quits with a failure.
When I try to boot from the stick and install win 10 the win 10 installation does not find any hard drives although I have one on which my current win 10 installation is running at the moment!

Do you have any suggestions to fix the update problems or how to detect the hard drives to perfom a clean install of my win 10 on my XPS 15 ?

Now Im also getting the BSOD when I'm working at least every hour. I also cannot run sfc/scannow. i gives me the error message "Windows Resource Protection ould Not Start the Repair Service"

Answer:Windows 7 Update Failure

The fact that you are getting the same problem after a reinstall indicates that you may be making the same mistake each time.

Having said that, the indications are that there may be a hardware problem with your machine - possibly either RAM or the hard drive.
There are a number of errors in the CheckSUR results which are the result of bitflips - where a single character has been altered in a registry entry. One or two is not that unusual - but you have more than a dozen.

I can fix these, but it's likely to happen again unless you isolate and eliminate the cause.
I would suggest starting by testing the RAM for errors.

What went wrong with the windows update for it to having failed to do a windows update on my machine? Can anyone point me into the right direction to investigate this ?

Hi, if you have Automatic updates enabled switch to "check for updates" in Windows Update, then try to update one by one and see whether updates are installed. Let us know which updates are not installing.

in either IE8 or Mozilla Firefox...when I go to try and get an update, I get the "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" message, on either browser. I have a feeling I may have a bug, but Avast, Malwarebytes, Spyware Blaster, nor Spybot S&D have turned up anything, as of late. I ran a malicious bug finder from MS, but nothing turned up. So, what nice little creature is keeping me from getting a needed XP windows update? I've seen this before, a long time ago, but now I'm stuck. I have not change any sercurity settings. Nothing has changed in Avast, no firewall issues. Is there a free program to run, that is better than other? Thx for any help.

Hi all,
My computer keeps trying to install Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 Update (KB976932) and never succeeds. It has been happening since April 2013 as I see in the update history, each time attempting to install it during shutting down. For a few minutes after computer launch Windows Update downloads updates anew, causing the system to slow down a bit.
The SP1 does not appear under the system version at Computer properties.

When installing through Update window, I get the following error:
Code 80004005 - Windows Update encountered unknown error

Attachment 309925

I've run several adviced FixIt applications all in vain, also downloaded the SP1 update manually (with antivirus temporarily switched off) - but that ended up with the very same error.

Attachment 309922

I followed the Posting Instructions, hope I hadn't missed anything. The CBS logs folder is available here:

Any hint will be appreciated, thanks in advance. If any files or more system information is neede, feel free to ask.

Answer:Windows 7 x64 SP1 Update failure

There could be many causes for your problem, but one very possible cause is a hard drive that has corrupted segments (beginning to fail). Test your hard drive.

So today I found out something interesting which contributes quite significantly to the heat I've reported previously on these forums.  Until now I had the global settings for my gpu to be the dedicated nvidia 630m. Today I set it to auto-select and I restarted my laptop. I found that the laptop's gpu temps lowered from the previous 50-55c at dile/internet use to 35-40c.  Sadly I never found a fix for the warm hdd which stays between 40-45( when it should be 30-40) which still annoys me >.< ( If you could recommend a fix for ehtat i'd be very greatful

So here is the story, I bought my laptop 4gb ram installed and last year i bought 8gb ram to upgrade it. But both rams together made my laptop unstable, it was at 100% cpu usage even when it was idle. So i started using only 8gb. Then i decided to update my bios thinking maybe it would fix the problem. I flashed the 'public' 5FCN95WW version first as instructed, it rebooted then i was stuck at the boot menu. I did some digging and found out that it would only boot on legacy(don't know why). And when i tried to flash the 'private' 5FCN95WW version it said something like 'can't flash same or older version'. Then i did some more digging then found out that i could flash it if i changed the bios setting 'bios back flash'. So i did that and i was able to flash the 'private' 5FCN95WW version.  Now it's running with 12gb ram smoothly. But the thermal management and brigthness controls are messed up. I can't change the fan speed it seems to be stuck at dedusting mode but it's working on auto adjusted speed. Can't change it to silent or any other speed. And brightness level is faulty, it takes like 20 (fn + up)'s to get to max brightness. So here are my questions, -Are you guys working on a fix for thermal management and brightness issue?-Why can't i boot with UEFI? Lenovo Z580INTEL I5-3210M128GB(TOSHIBA SSD(SYSTEM DRIVER)) + 500GB(SEAGATE HDD)12GB RAM(8GB KINGSTON + 4GB HYNIX)2GB NVIDIA GEFORCE 630MWINDOWS 7 64BIT

Hi all. It's my first post here on this forum. I have problem. I had update BIOS to version 5FCN95WW. Right now LAN/Ethernet don't work. After fresh instalation of Windows 8.1 + Drivers from your site my MAC adress of Realtek LAN card is 00-00-00-00-00-00. I checked on Windows 7 and XP. Same story. When I set new physical adress number in driver settings under Device Manager and restart everything works fine BUT...I can't install any linux distro that need network connection because card can't get ip adress from any router. TESTED. I send my laptop on warranty but service say everything is good. SIC!I buy machine without any OS and now use legal Windows 8.1 and they say that i don't have compatible OS. **bleep**!?I argue with service about 1 week sending emails but they say everything is okay. But it's not. Today laptop return to me and guess. LAN don't work. It work only when i enter new adress in driver settings. Right now I don't know what to do. Laptop was in Medion service in Germany and right now I know only one. That peoples working there know nothing and don't know how check LAN MAC adress having Laptop without OS ( with blank HDD ). Can anybody help? Maybe someone had similar problem with MAC adress after BIOS Update.

Alright already--after trying 4 times with no success to do a Windows Update and also trying the suggestions Microsoft has mapped out, I am at a loss as to how to proceed. When connected to the MS update site, it scans my computer for updates and then attempts to install the Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool. Midway through the installation, it suddenly halts and says it was not installed.

I tried MS's suggestions which are mainly creating prompts for ActiveX controls. But to no avail. It does not help.

I assume that if I can't get this corrected, I will never be able to receive Windows updates again?

I have a genuine copy of Windows XP Home. It was installed on my computer when I bought it last year from a local retailer. I have easily done previous updates on this computer with absolutely no problem.

Help! Any suggestions?

Hello all, so last night when I got home I noticed that there were some Windows Updates ready. I was planning on watching a movie streamed from my PC to my XBOX 360, but the last time I did that, my movie was interrupted because my computer thought that right now was a perfect time to perform the updates. So this time, I figured I'd do the update right then, and watch the movie afterward.

So the windows update screen came on saying installing updates, stup 3 of 3 and so on and so forth. All was going as usual until the computer powered off. Normally, it would boot back up just as it would if you had done a restart. This time however, the computer stayed off. I let it sit for 5 minutes or so before powering it back on. Once I did, I got the normal BIOS screen for my motherboard and then it just hangs. From this screen I can normally hit <F12> to enter the Boot Menu, <DEL> to enter BIOS setup, <END> to enter something called Q-setup or the <TAB> key which says POST next to it. The only key that does anything is TAB. Once I hit that, I go to the Energy Star screen where it tests my memory. I still have the same options as above, however DEl and END when pushed with display a message that says either "Prepare to enter setup" and "Prepare to enter Q-thing (I forget exactly what it's called)" and then just hangs there.

Couple more bits of info; the mobo boot screen has hung on me before and used to do it every time I would reboot. I ... Read more

Answer:Boot Failure After Windows Update

Have you tried doing Startup Repair? Also, try System Restore. If that doesn't work... try uninstalling the update you just recently installed.

For OEM version, Startup Repair (inc. System Restore) is on f8 menu before the Windows boot screen.
For Retail Version, use your Vista CD to boot from there and then click "repair your computer".

N.B: If you can't boot from the Vista CD you got, then make sure the first priority of booting is internal optical drive or something like that.

Go to Start>Control Panel>Programs and Features>View Installed Updates, then click the update you want to uninstall and then click Uninstall. Do this in Safe Mode.

Hopefully, Microsoft would fix this issue before people start getting this issue.

Good'ay Everyone !!!

Windows Defender Beta 2 is at it agin'

Recent attempts to download and install Update 1.14.1669.8 (KB915587) failed with these codes:

1. With download from Defender Console: Unable to complete update 0x80240022 Wrong diskette in drive Insert %2 (Volume Serial Number %3) into drive %1.

2. With Automatic Updates: Install failed 0x800B0109.

Reading the Article - Cannot Download/Install Certain Programs/Updates - on the Microsoft site; I found that once again there were needed updates/installs to w2000 needed to support these upgrades.

I downloaded and installed:

1. Direct X End-User Run Time Update

2. Security Update for Direct X9 KB904706

3. Root Certificates Update

4. Security Update for Microsoft Data Access Components KB832483

After these were installed the update ran normally and works great !!!!!!!

Been a coupla days and all seems/runs welllll........

I hope this helps someone outhere....you have been such a help to me.....thank you

Stay happy and healthy.

So, when I got home today, I connected my new Nokia Lumia 900 to my computer. It installed the "USB" portion of the software but it isn't recognized as the actual phone so when i try to use it with Zune, it says I have nothing connected.

So after all of that I notice I have a Windows update. I let my computer restart and it says the update is installing. So i think everything is going good but I was wrong. I plugged my phone back in and let it do its thing and it still won't recognize it. After this, I went to my Windows update history and it says that the update was unsuccessful!

I really have no clue what to do. I have uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them plenty of times; same with the Zune client. I'm really starting to regret not getting the iphone now because of all of this frustration. Please help!
