I purchased the Lenovo brand because it offered many more features then the competitors within the price range we needed. My son needed it for school so of course we went with the i7 processor because we were told it was the best and wanted to ensure we didn't have an outdated computer within the next few years when our other children would begin to use it.

Our computer is not charging and I have contacted every department I could think of and was referred to some others along the way. I am very stressed and upset on how my problem/question is being handled. I was hoping to get everything resolved before school starts again on Jan 3rd so my son doesn't fall behind.

The history of my purchase:

I purchased my lenovo ideapad y560 in 2010. Upon arrival it did not work and I had to send it back for a replacement (this order# 2FL8RF S/N ******** was ordered 9/13/2011 shipped 9/17/2011 a return authorization generated 9/23/2011 and you received the unit back on 10/23-10/24/2011).

My new one came and the start date of warranty was 10/6/2010. A few months in I called in again for the blue system screen and was told I had to restore my computer with the restore button which I did even though I lost all of my work and applications.

I called in on Friday December 23,2011 to technical support because my computer was 100% functioning and it wouldn't charge. The computer then turned off due to noncharging.

On the phone with hardware support we troubleshot the unit by trying to charge with and without the battery, discharging the battery by holding the power button,etc. I was told it was not the charger and I was told it would need to be sent in for repair.

I then looked up warranty information on my system where I found the Lenovo Limited Warranty (document L505-0010-01 4/2008) http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/l505-0010-01-en.pdf which was warranty information "An overview of the Limited Warranty for Lenovo products sold between July 2008 and December 2011". In this documentation on the last page it states "
A warranty period of three (3) years on parts and one (1) year on labor means that Lenovo will provide warranty service without charge
for:
a. parts and labor during the first year of the warranty period (or a longer period as required by law); and
b. parts only, on an exchange basis, in the second and third years of the warranty period. Your Service Provider will charge you for
any labor provided in performance of the repair or replacement in the second and third years of the warranty period."
I then called in today December 26, 2011 to Lenovo Ideapad support at 877-453-6686 where I spoke with hardware support they said I only had a 12 month warranty and that this warranty online didn't apply. When I asked for a full description of the warranty that does apply to my ideapad they told me to speak with sales, I was then transferred to sales support who offered to e-mail me my warranty, which was the same documentation that I had found (email attached).
I then called sales who told me to call entitlement at 800-426-8748. I reached a representative there in entitlement who told me that they do not handle ideapads and I should call 877-453-6686. I showed her the information I had found and during that conversation I found another document that showed the expiration of my warranty as "2012-01-05". The link to this is link removed
The entitlement representative then connected me with sales again. I was told by sales I only have a 12 month warranty and to e-mail in all of the documentation I have showing that the warranty goes beyond 12 months.

They said their system was down and they had access to only a limited number of applications. they told me to send an email with the documentation I had found to ****** They told me I would get a return call 24-48hours or I could call them again in 2hours to see if their system was up. I sent it the e-mail address that sales provided and then received a delivery notification failure. I then googled that e-mail address and tried sending it to other one's I found that were similar thinking maybe I would get lucky. Everything was returned with delivery notification failures. I just called sales again they confirmed the e-mail address I have is correct and as I finish typing this I've held 25 minutes for them to go look at the email to see if it's working! (really?!)

I was on the phone for a total of 3 hours between all of my phone calls and still have no answers. The documentation I have printed from the links provided show that my limited warranty is still partially existant. I am very frustrated and still without answers or a working computer.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

Why does Dell only have chat support (and only during office hours when I have no chance to ask questions) when you have questions about their products? That is at least the case in Sweden. I cannot at all understand how that could be beneficial for either customer or Dell. Can someone please explain that to me?

Went to fry's with a friend to pick up a wireless network card. Hes running linux so I thought I would ask if they knew of any card with linux support. The response from two salesman, and I kid you not "just make sure the router is open source". I wasn't really expecting great help, but I wasn't expecting two people to give me obviously wrong answers. I proceeded to tell the guy he was wrong and to go away.

hilarious that he thought that only open source routers would work on it though, seens our friend microsoft has made every retail store so thought oriented towards them.

 dear all with lenovo  Lenovo do not believe in after sales sevice support. have given a laptop Y460P for repairs since last one month with singapore service Center and problem is that the part is  not availbale in stores ? , after repeated calls to service center they are unable to give a date when machine can be fixed. Considering the machine is still in warranty , i seriously doubt that ' will ever go lenovo way as experiance is so painful. service center in Singapore should improve .Is current company managing service good enough to keep Lenovo standards? Can some one from Lenovo take serious note and do take some action ?

Perhaps you could ask them for a machine swap so that you do not have to wait any longer for parts?

A friend will be moving to Mexico but was looking at buying G550 MFG#: 2958A4U laptop in Canada but needs to make sure that it is serviceable in Mexico. I phoned Lenovo web sales but they could not help since that p/n is not sold on the website. Is this model serviceable in Mexico and if so is it only by mail within Mexico ie no on site service??

Hi, I'm new to this site and couldn't find a topic that covered my enquiry. I have been approached via cold calling tele sales from three different companies claiming to be authorised MS Windows certified technicians. They tell me my warranty has expired and I need to take out a contract with them to prevent my computer from slowing down (which it is not doing) - they get you to look at a warnings list which looks horrendous with several red warnings. But are they real? The seem to offer support for anthing from ?35 for 6 months up to ?300 for 4 years support. Are these just scams and if so why do we get no warnings about them?

Anyone else had dealings with these firms?

Probably total b-s. What do they mean by warranty has expired. On what? Windows 7 just came out.why do we get no warnings about them?Maybe because it is a new enough scam that it hasn't been picked up. Does the UK have something similar to the Better Business Bureau where you could check?

I ordered a T61 with 2GB on Sept 9th. When I received the machine, there is only 1GB ram. So I followed advice from this forum. I called the Sales. First they did not believe that there is only 1GB of ram in my laptop. Transferred me to Technical Support. Technical support asked me about my type and SN. I told them it is 6459 and my SN. They said they could not find it in their database. But 6459 is actually what they sell in the shopping page. Worst of all the technical support did not even set a case for me. They kick me back to sales. Sales said "OK. I need your case number." Hell, I never heard of it. I was kicked back to Technical Support again and now they set up a case. Once again I was kicked back to Sales. Sales said "Oh, you got the Case number. It is wonderful. You will be called two days later." I waited for two days. Somebody called me to ask me what is wrong with my laptop at noon. I had to tell him again about the same problem. He said "Sorry sir I cannot help you. Let me transfer you to Sales." Ridiculous! I spent the whole afternoon calling sales and technical support. Finally they agreed there was a mistake. You expect them to send you 1GB ram to fix the problem? NO way. They are not considering your problem. Maybe they never consider the customer's problems. I have a pivot table that gives me sales by each division over a period of time. When I do the pivot chart I can just pull the divisions over into my field list and show "Average Sales". This is for the whold company. This is great but what I would like to have is a line chart showing the sales of each of the division AND also show the Average sales of all divisions within same chart.

I can't figure out how to do it.

First let me say, I love Lenovo products, particularly Thinkpads.  Lenovo after sales service though is turning out to be abysmal... I just cannot get a reliable answer to a simple question. I have been chasing an outstanding order for a "43N3412 ThinkPad Serial ATA Hard Drive Bay Adapt" now for over 6 weeks. The original ship date was 2012/04/19. Every week I go through the same ritual, I call customer service chasing the order and am told the units will be received in the next few days and ship sometime "this" week , and yes I can rely on that information. Each week it does not ship. I've called customer service more than 9 times trying to get a straignt answer, escalated to supervisors etc. all to no avail.  Same answer, same lack of shipped product. I understand some products can be on constraint. What really bugs me though is that when I placed the order it was not, and I am repeatedly told "it will ship in the next 2-3 days" and it does not. Bottom line is that I feel I am being a line of bull****, just to get rid of me... What do I have to do to get a reliable answer?

I need some assistance and I am hesitant to ask for it here since I know this is not an official support channel, but so far official support has not been able to do anything for me.I wrote extensively about my experience here. Basically my notebook arrived but I did not get a ship notification  e-mail and my credit card was not charged until over a month later. This wouldn?t be that big a deal, but my warranty is not showing correctly on the look-up site. I paid extra for a two year warranty with Thinkpad Protection yet the look up site shows the standard one year warranty. I talked to warranty support several times and they told me that I needed my invoice number (which I didn?t have until recently when the ship confirmation e-mail came) and recommended I talk to sales. I have talked to sales multiple times and they generally say they have no record of my order shipping, my serial number is invalid, I must have received the wrong computer, etc. etc. Usually the call ends with them saying they will investigate the issue and get back to me which never happens.Once the shipment e-mail finally arrived (with an invoice number) I emailed the person I have been working with at warranty support the invoice number but I have heard nothing back and my warranty is still showing incorrectly. I've just discovered that I've lost the sales receipt for my 3 month old Lenovo Thinkpad X200, bought in May 2009 in Singapore. However, the laptop is covered under a 3 year on-site warranty and this warranty status is reflected on the Lenovo warranty lookup site.Does Lenovo require me to provide the receipt in a situation whereby I need to send my laptop in for servicing? Or would the serial number on the bottom of the laptop suffice? Thanks.

Welcome to the forum.   The warranty is based on the MT and Serial number of the system, so the receipt is generally not needed.  The only case where the receipt is needed is if the warranty start date needs to be reset because the machine sat in inventory somewhere (shelf life) before it was finally sold.  In these instances, the warranty started at the factory and the customer might have purchased a month or two later.
 
If you look up your warranty by your MT and Serial number on the support site www.lenovo.com/support
and find that the dates look right, then no worry about the receipt.

I brought the Lenovo S510p Laptop because of the high ram and a few other points.Since day 1 i was not happy, i travel a lot and i left the country the following day. The track pad is useless and does what it wants when it wants. Most of the drivers for hardware(bluetooth, trackpad, shortcuts and even wifi), dont seem to work. They dont respond. Yes, i did upgrade to Win10, but all the problems were already there before i upgraded, so i highly doubt it to be a Windows issue and no, i am not a windows fan. When i did finally get back to South Africa to the shop i brought it at, they said it would be up to 3 months wait and still no garentee it would be fixed as they said they have a lot of problems with the repair center and with the Lenovo products.When i asked if i will be a replacement, they said no. I travel a lot due to work, i can not be without a laptop for 3 months and i will not buy yet another laptop!Now my warrenty has run out due to me traveling for work. If there is 1 make i will not buy again, its Lenovo! Quite shocking and dissapointed. The only thing that works for now is the screen.

I have a Gateway still under warranty, so occasionally I give their online tech support a shot while it's still free. I have a Gateway 840GM, which uses a Pentium D 830. Everest and Speedfan have been reporting idle CPU temps between 58-67, with temperature on sustained 50% load reaching 73. I'd like to cool it down, but I feel like my options are limited due to the "unique" case architecture. Here's a photo of my BTX case with strange ducting:

This case only uses two big fans. One sucks air in the front and pushes it through the ducting to the CPU. The rear fan blows out exhaust. That's it. No CPU fan. Probably no space to mount one due to the ducting. I asked the Gateway tech what I could do...here's his advice:

i currently have a dell Inspiron 5558 laptop for over an year now but the screen stop working over 6 months ago, i looked up the warranty information at the time of screen stopped working and was re-assured that it showed February 18, 2017 therefore i did not consider that it is very urgent to call tech support since i have other laptops. today when i call the support service, i was informed that product was not registered and i have to pay $233 to replace the LCD screen, they still argued that dell warranty website showed the correct information but when i looked it up, the website still displays the same.  did anyone else encounter this issue??

I have a Thinkpad T450s and it is just over a year old. It still has 3 more years of warranty. Edit: Warranty type: TPJ (This product has a four year limited warranty which includes a warranty upgrade. This product is entitled to parts and labor and is entitled to Depot service).Recently the lenovo solution center gave an critical error for the HDD (Read test failure) and I submitted an online request reporting it. Without even sending me an email or contacting me, they sent me a new part and gave me zero information about it. Apparently every other person can replace a HDD now!  I have created 3 more cases calling their tech support to send the laptop for a depo repair. Everytime the request is rejected 'at the vendor' according to the customer care. Neither the customer care people or tech support can tell me why. Every time they create a new case, tell me I will receive a depo bag nect day, and I dont receive anything, have to call depo customer care and on hold for minimum 40 minutes, only to hear that the case has been rejected they dont know why.One tech support told me now I have to send the new part back before creating a new case, otherwise it will be rejected again. but he does not know how I can send the new part back. The return label sent to me was for the faulty HDD.Can anyone help? What is the point of paying for warranty if I receive this type of service?

I Have a thinkpad t43 2687 DUU. purchased 2 years back.  It had 3 yr warranty.  Recently i had a problem with the  laptopand decided to reimage it since windows got corrupted.  The service partition didnt help in reinstalling the factory image.  The resue and recovery versions (3 as wellas 4) didnt work and had to order recovery CD's.    The fun starts here.   First time i called the case was created and got lost.  Nothing happened.   The second time i called the case was created and the recovery CD's were sent to Pennsylvania (zip code 15038) instead of irving tx, 75038.  No apologies from any tech support person.    Being routed to tech support, CRU support,  DHL in round robin fashion is the only thing that happened.      Finally the CD went to Lenovo itself because of bad address.   These guys do not even have basic address validation system in place before shipping something and theirtech support has very poor sense of US addresses.    Then after 3 days i again call them up ( no choice)  and they created a new case  but miss my apt number.   I called next day to confirm,  the tech support team said the CRU team will now be able to help, the CRU team told me that the case isnt closed yet and they cannot help.  called the tech support supervisor.   he was totally useless and didnt help one b... Welcome to the forum! I'm sorry to hear about your less-than-pleasant experience with tech support. While I understand your aggravation (I'd be pretty upset myself if I were in your shoes), I'd tend to believe that this is still an exception, and not the rule. My T43p (2687-D5U) came back repaired after three business days last week, no complaints on this end. I've been using ThinkPads for eight years now without a single bad experience with IBM support, and I've sent dozens (if not hundreds) machines for a repair over that period of time. There are incidents like the one you have described with every company. Once in a blue, a case slips through the cracks, it is human to err. And while I'm not demeaning what happened to you, or defending the company, you'd likely be in a worse spot with another laptop. Hopefully the disks will arrive safely, and help you restore that T43 to its full glory, enabling you to enjoy it once again. Good luck and keep us informed.

PART 1.....HP aftersales support is absolutely bloody useless.  My HP Envy notepad had issues from day 1.  Returned twice for repair...finally agreed to replace under 3 year replacement warranty. Problem was I had to take it back to the original point of purchase for exchange.  4 hour round trip only to be told that the Envy is out of production and that to replace with similar spec HP notepad....an extra $700 please!!!!!!  No thank you!HP agreed to replace with upgraded model, direct from them. Why didn't they do this in the first place?????PART 2.....HP advises that new notepad to be delivered and exchanged for old on Monday 20th Feb.  I called StarTrack Express to enquire about delivery time only to be told that it was being delivered to the wrong address despite me confirming the correct address.It's now Wednesday 22nd Feb. Stupidly Ive taken 3 days off work to be at home for the exchange.  Have just found out it's to be delivered tomorrow.The communication has all been one way...me calling HP...me calling StarTrack. Startrack told me that I had to deal with a mob called Shenka Logistics to find out where the new notepad is?  WHO IS SHENKA LOGISTICS!!!!!!Try and get hold of someone in Australia to help.......GOOD LUCK!  HP is a total Cluster F--K of an organisation!!This is the only forum available to vent my dissatisfaction.  I tried Facebook... I like most people are frustrated by the lack of support for WP. Even if there is an app its a far cry from android/ios versions
I need apps for my bank and trading accounts, sorry I just don't shoot pictures all day. I wrote to both basically saying I run windows across all devices and ned support on WP.

At this time, there are no plans on there being a new or supported app for the WP platform. Currently the demand for an app on that platform is very, very, low. To be able to get the green light to develop AND support a more up to date app, we would need to have the numbers to justify it. If this changes in the future, it is a possibility, but right now that is not the case unfortunately.
The bank pretty much said the same thing.

Maybe WP simply isn't for you. I don't need any of the things you mention so don't miss them but you obviously do so maybe a different platform will work better for you. Really no point being frustrated by a platform when another would work better.

The main difference between OEM and retail is the cost! OEM is intended for system builders, retail for home users. Sometimes with the OEM you will not get the box, just the sealed drive with a small installation leaflet. The retail will generally come with a nice box and a boot floppy if required also the IDE cable.XP doesn't require the boot floppy, if your using 98se you can download the floppy from the manufacturers site. and you will probably have an IDE cable already.Both my drives are OEM and where straightforward to install/partition/format. Buy OEM and save yourself some money. j.

I have recommended a number of friends to buy PC's from a highly rated build/supply company. Having done so, I feel that the company should consider a bit of commision on past & future sales that I might recommend to them. Would this be considered fair and what sort of commision % is also a fair return?

I have been tracking the weekly prices of Y580 laptops for a while and the last 2 months have been all $1000+, often with the 768p screen model being more expensive than the 1080p.Does anyone know what Lenovo is up to with this? It's definitely not friendly to potential customers...

At this point I realized all the pop ups that were coming up are saying the same thing. Talking about stopping ad ware and viruses from messing up my system. Nothing else but pop ups like that.

At this point I just simply do a system restore back 4 days prior. Everything is cool at this point. About a day later it starts happening again. I immediately delete all of the new sites that I had recently ventured to so I won't go back to them. Then I look up the files that keep adding themselves to my startup. They are all 62 kbs in size and all in the windows and windows system32 folder. I go in and manually delete about 20 or so of them. It took a long time to make sure I get them all. I had to do this in safe mode. Then after I restarted, to my surprise here comes the windows trying to open on their own and a new program on my startup again. Another 62kb program!!! What the hell????

Giving up I decide to perform another system restore and Haha to my surprise all of my restore dates are gone. They are gone!

Make sure you have AdAware SE 1.6 if not undo the protection then uninstall it. then install the new version

Click here and download Adaware SE update it Follow these directions to configure AdAware SE but do not run a scan yet:



If you have spybot S&D 1.3 undo the protection then uninstall it. then install the new version

Download Spybot 1.4. Install the program, update the definitions file. Do not run it yet



next run both programs and reboot between each one

Well, I failed to follow one of the primary rules of downloading (check and double-check the dialog windows before clicking OK or Accept) and now I have the Sales Charger malware/adware. I have seen some posts where people have had to go through some pretty extreme efforts to rid themselves of this infection.
 
So here I am looking to the experts to help me out. I have a custom machine running Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit, AMD Phenom 9750, ASUS M58 mobo, 4 GB DDR2. I use Avast, CCleaner and Malwarebytes and have downloaded the latest versions of aswMBR, combofix, FRST, TDSSkiller, adwClean, JRT and rkill, so I think I am armed and ready for battle.
 
From what I have read, it seems I am getting redirects, unsolicited search results, and pop-ups typical of the Sales Charger malware. So where do I start? I have only used the Avast malicious add-on tool when it pops up, but this only helps for the current session and not completely.

If this is in the wrong place, please advise as to where I should post it. I have a T440p. It was delivered without the illuminated keyboard. I ordered a backlit keyboard from an online retailer. The installation was simple, it works, but it does not feel as good as the OEM keyboard. I left an inquiry on the Mexican Lenovo site (http://www.lenovo.com/mx/es/) over a week ago. No response. I have had very satisfactory interactions with Lenovo.com in the US, but the Lenovo operation in Mexico is terrrible and has been nothing but a series of complete disappointments, including a 6 month interlude of failed repairs on a T61p, an incorrect screen installed on my T520 and now this lack of response to a request using their web form. I'm not asking advice. I'm just posting this as a complaint and point of information. The Mexican Lenovo operation is a mess.

Question: Sales sound ads

The other day I was on Ebay and suddenly a Sears ad began playing on my computer. I didn't have any way to look at the ad or stop it. Some ad also came on in the middle of the night when my computer lid was shut down. Is this normal? I usually don't the sound on but is that the only way to silence the pop up sound ads? Well by default, most laptops will go into sleep or hibernation when the lid is closed, so unless you have changed that behavior that should not be possible.
Also when an ad starts playing and you cannot seem to find it, use the ALT+ Tab keys to scroll through all the open windows interfaces until you find it, then force it close; if you don't it might refresh at some point and play again. My recommendation is that when you are not going to be using the laptop for awhile, lock the screen before closing the lid and when you are done for the day, just sign out, that will close any open connections.

I'm not really looking to install the "free' version of win 10 along with its CB updates method, but I would like to get my hands on the pro version and am willing to pay for it. I took advantage of Win 7 advance sales and snagged 2 copies of pro and 2 of HP on the cheap. Are there any of those deals out there right now for win 10 pro?

There's a 20% discount coupon available to Windows Insiders for Launch day.

I'm sure there will be some offers, but you might have to wait for them - after Q3 2015 (???) when MS as some data on Win10 updated devices. If it's weak, they might create a marketing program similar to what you described.

But.... how much of a discount do you expect when MS is offering a FREE update?

Ok, so if we all agree that operating sytem software is only licensed for the computer it is installed on, or a number of computers in the case of a volume license, how come Amazon are selling used O/system software?? original and OEM versions.

However, if you can identify them, they are usually free to download from the Net!I have both the original OS and an OEM because I did not know how to delete the partitions installed with the Media Center, which was the original. But I did find the appropriate software.I have now reverted to the original OS (XP) and waved goodbye to the £80 the OEM cost me!

I am not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I could not find another place that seemed more suitable. Recently, my y560 stopped charging and recognizing when the ac adapter was plugged in.  I had this problem before, which was that the dc jack became unsoldered from the connection to the motherboard.  Anyways, I am having the same exact problem again, and have sent in my laptop yet again, but this time the repair has been put on hold. Upon calling technical support, they claim that the whole bottom part of the case needs to be replaced, however, this is not the case. They're claiming it needs to be replaced because the small plastic vents on the left side of the y560 (that covers a small part of the heatsink and is a completely non functional part, just a part of the plastic case), broke off through regular use (no abuse, high heats from gaming eventually caused it to weaken and I just took the rest of it off because the looseness of it was annoying me). This would not be a problem if they werent denying me repair due to this. All I need is the dc jack to be resoldered to the board (a simple fix), but theyre claiming that this non functional part needs to be replaced, or nothing at all will be fixed, which is not covered under my current warranty which I renewed. They say that I need to pay around $180 for a completely unnecessary repair. If there are any Lenovo mods, or support who could help me with this, it'd be greatly appreciated. Faulty manufact... I've been given the task of locating some software that our sales team can use to redraw sales area's.

I guess that have used mappoint in the past, but I was really hoping for something WEB based.

What I need is something with a US map where we can pretty much plot out area's where certain sales people are assigned to certain geographical area's

Hmmm..... Google maps has a feature they call "polyline" which allows lines to be drawn on top of a map. You could generate a polyline to define a particular person's territory. Maybe elaborate on it with a pinpoint that has the territory owner's information.

If you're somewhat saavy with HTML and can follow along and do some Javascript tweaking, then this approach may work out for you.

Currently using Quickbooks 2004 Premier Edition...little too big for what I need.
Just need something I can print professional looking Invoivces, track cash expenses, and very little on hand inventory. Would like a way to keep a eye on the bottom line also...see how much has been made for the day/week/month.

Any of the speadsheets 1-2-3, Excel or Quattro Pro will easily do the jobs you describe if you do not want a full accounting program. The learning curve is not steep for the spreadsheets, but you need some accounting background to take full advantage of Quickbooks and the learniing curve can be steep..

Hi guys, I'm looking to get an XPS 15 9550, i7 for my work (Web developer). As I've got 2 external HD displays I want to use, I'm going for the entry level i7 unit and upgrading it myself (avoids the Dell tax).
So, out if the box, does it support attaching 2 external screens and using them and the internal  panel, giving you 3 screens in total?
Also, can you add a data disk if it doesn't come with one ( ie m2 ssd only).
Lastly how quick is the supplied m2 ssd, is it worth getting a 1TB m2 device instead?
Are there any gotchas to installing 32gb of ram via 2x 16gm sticks?

Answer:XPS 15 9550 - Pre sales questions

The system should have no problem driving three displays.  
If you buy the model with the smaller battery --56 W-Hr -- you can install a 2..5" drive in addition to an SSD.  If you buy the 83 W-Hr battery, you can only have one M.2 SSD - the battery takes up the space used by the 2.5" drive bay.
The NVMe/PCie drive interface is 2x -- not 4X, so while it'll be faster than SATA, it's not going to give you full NVMe speeds.  If you want that, you need a Precision mobile workstation model.

Hmm.. Where do I begin? I put in an order for the X1 Carbon a month ago. It arrived in two weeks,looked great but did not work. Technician responded in a day and replaced the fan. Did not work. said they will come back and replace the motherboard.. (ON A BRAND NEW MACHINE). Since then, I ordered a replacement since changing too much hardware on a new machine didn't make sense and now, the new machine is expected to arrive next month.  I am writing this to find out if you can expedite my order in any way. Its causing enough frustration for me since I already paid the money about a month ago and was expecting to use the new laptop for work by now. Things are delayed by almost a month because Lenovo shipped me a defective product. The least I would expect is a quicker turnaround for this replacement order but the lack of such is very displeasing. Emails to the post-sales team in the US have gone unheard or unanswered. Any suggestions?

I have recently bought an Acer Aspire wlmi which promised to be a nice machine but...Does anyone have experience of the Acer back up service available? For weeks I have been unable to get in touch with them by phone email nor letter using the systems Acer demands. I received one very inadequate reply with apologies some weeks ago but it has dried up all together. My problem is that the laptop is very sluggish in some respects for a fairly top notch machine but I have no idea of knowing whether it has an inherent fault.I would appreciate any comments.

Anyone know how a sales database would be structured?
If anyone knows/has any exapmles of Microsoft Access Sales database, i would greatly apppreciate the kind gesture.

I understand that obviously Access wouldn't be used to build projects on that scale, but i'm not planning to create anything on that scale that will go live any time soon. However im assuming that the actaul structure wouldn't be to difficault to create on Access.

I'm just looking for some advise, I currently work for a small telecoms company and have been asked at looking at installing a sales monitor onto the wall of the office so that we can monitor all the quarterly targets that we have set. ie number of connections, gross profit, ect. All of the sales figures are retained in one main spreadsheet (no CRM). They where looking for a way to put these into charts and have them on the big screen in the office.

I have a spare desktop I could use to run this monitor if required, my only issue is if there is any software out there that might be better than just putting excel on graphs on the screen as these will not be in real time and will require constant manual updating?

I'm in the market for a decent laptop -- I don't want a huge screen but something decently portable that could be plugged into a nice large monitor / docking station when I'm not travelling -- a 14 inch screen is probably the largest I'd want.

So I saw a nice i7 powered ASUS at a decent price -- but looking at the Specs there is NOWHERE on it that says whether it has ANY USB ports at all (I'd ideally like 3 but could manage with 2 and I want USB3 ports).

So guys - if any of you are in the selling business PLEASE present at least the "Usual" specs -- I'm sure also people DO want USB3 slots on a laptop now -- and they certainly want to know if they have ANY USB slots at all and how many.

Zooming in to the images that are provided for that specific Ultrabook, it seems that there are three USB ports. Two on the left, one on the right next to what seems to be an HDMI port. I have no way of telling if they're USB3 or not, but from what I'm seeing, the ports aren't blue (which is a USB3 indication).

I bought a new Q190-5183 from a reknowed reseller in Dubai. But the DVD drive with the desktop was faulty and not working. I have taken the same to the reseller for replacement but they refused saying they need to send it to Lenovo service center, after 7days I got a call from service center asking for the packing box! and without the packing box no replacemenet can be done! I have handed over everything except the box. The service center is going to repair the DVD rom but they need to get a part from Lenovo and it will take time 3 to 15days!!! I have contacted the reseller again for their help and finally Lenovo on phone but without packing box nobody can help. I should wait till the service center gets the parts and repair it! Shall I continue buying Lenovo products? There is a chance of faulty devices being given and then the customer has to wait endless to get it replaced or repaired.

Last Sept. I puchased a Sony Vio laptop. It has gone wrong with the same fault (Unable to Recognise Operating System) five times and each time it has been returned to their technical dept. they have replaced the hard drive. It still doesn't work and I am waiting for it to be collected once again. I have lost all faith in the machine. The technical guys say that all you can do is fax their Customer Services Dept and outline your complaint. I faxed them ten days ago and again five days ago and to date have not had the courtesy of any kind of response. All I can say is beware of Sony. Anyone else had similar experience?

Help me Convince Client you Cannot Buy A CD Key...or can you? Hi all,

I am here in desperation. My client is tech savvy in many ways(as am I). However, he has asked me to find him a CD key he can BUY to use a valid copy of Office 2003 he has a CD to but has lost the key. He does not want hacked keys and that is good. I did not think you could buy a key, unless it's some scammer trying to sell you a key they created.

I sent him information that I could not find a key to buy and I also sent him the text from the Microsoft site instructing on how to get a replacement key for your valid copy of Office. No matter how I word it or approach it with my client he seems to be a broken record and repeats his desire for a price for a key and how to obtain it.

I did my research. I posted several resources to him to a) contact Microsoft re: their solution b) run a Key retrieval program on a PC it is already installed on(seems it is not installed any where) He is relentless with his request.

Help!! What can I say to him to prove he cannot buy a key. Or can you buy a key and why can't I find out how?

I have searched without success to find a definitive answer to this question.

With the ending of Microsoft support for Win 98, 98SE and Win ME on 11th. July 2005 will the catalog here continue to be available for the downloading of updates for these three O/Ss?

I quote from this MS page here:

"Support for Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, and Windows Millennium Edition (Me) ends on July 11, 2006. Microsoft will end public and technical support by this date. This also includes security updates. Microsoft is providing final notifications to customers to end the extended security update support for these products."
And further:

"Paid incident support and critical security updates for Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, and Windows Me will end on July 11, 2006. No other security updates will follow after this date.
Online self-help support will be available at the Microsoft Support Web site until at least July 11, 2007.

Hello,

I am trying to make an excel spreadsheet that lets me know if my sales reps are projected to hit their goals depending on their current numbers and month to date. My reps have a specific number to hit. I wouls also like to color code the field with red, yellow or red depending on the outcome.

Any idea where I can start?

I first started with the sales quota for the month divided by the actual sales month to date, which gives me a percentage of month to date of course but no forcasting.

When I try to incorporate a date is where I get lost

any help would be appreciated

Are you putting in 1 number per month and then comparing that to what the total for the year is? If so, you could compare the average of the numbers already entered to what the yearly total should be divided by twelve. As far as color coding, you would use conditional formatting for that which depends on the version of Excel as far as which options are available to you.

No wonder PC sales are dying currently -- nothing to do with Windows 8 or the OS -- it's just the HARDWARE being put in these just seems to be going backwards.

I've been looking at some "Convertibles" -- guess what -- the reasonably portable versions (anything bigger than 14 inch screen IMO is a no no for real portability) seem to be fitted with CELERON processors for Gawds sake -- I'd want probably an i5 at a minimum on a new piece of kit although if the price was really cheap I probably could get away with a decent i3 processor. Then they fit a SLOW IDE 5400 RPM type 500 GB drive -- I'd want an SSD - especially with a lower powered processor. and then the screen resolution is a stinking 1366 X 768. I'd want at least 1080P HD (1080 x 1920) these days.

Don't people ever do their marketing properly or have the been listening to GARTNER's again.

Spec for me is 11.5 or 14 inch NATIVE 1080 X 1920, SSD, Touch (although not mandatory), i5 processor (i3 just about tolerable) USB3 X 2 if poss but certainly 1 USB 3 slot, 8GB RAM (if it's got 6 I don't care as I can swap the memory), HDMI output (whether via a Mini HDMI or standard connector I don't care), and preferably in a convertible form factor (but that's not mandatory either. I don't need a DVD drive either.

Now Laptops with this type of spec seem to be as rare as Hen's teeth -- what sort of marketing says put an ATOM CELERON in some modern gear or were these the processors they had left over after the... Read more

I take it the Surface Pro doesn't appeal to you? The Dell XPS 12 Convertible Touch Ultrabook seems close to what you list, but it isn't cheap. HDMI may be a problem as it seems they're moving away from HDMI and towards Display Port/Mini Display Port instead (I wish manufacturers would stop changing ports).

I work in a business with around 100 computers. 16 of which are in the sales department of the business. We're looking for a network related application that allows the sales team to be able to ring a bell (or something along the lines of) via their computers and the rest of the sales team will be able to see who has made the sale. 
 
Just like a little pop up screen saying "This person has made a sale" 
 
Of course, we will need to input which systems have access to the application and determine which system should receive the messages.
 
Is there something already on the market of this sort or am I asking way to much and have to go custom?

The number is partly offset by buyers holding off on purchases during the previous two weeks, when sales dropped 29 percent and then 2 percent versus 2008, but is well above earlier weeks, when sales were up by at most 19 percent.

and the navigation works pretty well - apart from a 404 (file not found) error on the 'back to previous page' link on your /mailing_list.asp page.There are typos and grammatical errors scattered throughout the text however, and I urge you to get someone to thoroughly check right through the site. Sloppy text detracts from an otherwise good site.
