Y 560 Left Hinge Issue

Question: Y 560 Left Hinge Issue

Hi,

I have purchased a Lenovo Y560 laptop on 03-10-2010 and I got this left hinge issue. I was about to close the laptop when I suddenly heard a click sound and after a thorough inspection I found that the left hinge is broken without any reason. I went through a lot of discussions over the internet and I found out that this has been a common problem in this product.
Some of the links:

The next day(24-1-2011) I called up the Customer Care India and I was given a case id and the representative asked me to go to the Service Centre at Velachery , Chennai ,India. I visited the service centre the next day with the given case id and to my dismay , THE CASE ID WAS IN THE STATUS:CANCELLED. Things I noted in the service centre :

1)They were too lethargic about giving a proper response as how can the case id be cancelled without even the user's consent.
2) When I tried reaching the customer care again , they gave a new case id for the same issue and the case id : 4270154295 and ONLY then they looked into the issue.
3) After some diagnosis, the technician said that the product is still under warranty and it needs a part replacement. to my memory , he was saying it needs a stick cover, bottom case and a screw container and that these parts are to be ordered.
4) He asked me to go to the other Lenovo service centre in the city in Nungambakkam and that they cannot help .
4)After a detalied call again with CC regarding the above point , they told the case id is allotted to Velachery i again told the same to the technician about this. Finally he told me that the parts will arrive in 2 days max and also told me its not required to deposit the laptop and so i agreed. BUT I WAS NOT GIVEN A NY LOG SHEET OR ANY SUCH THING. On being asked, they told they ll give a call once the parts arrive and i can come and replace it.

Til date i have never been called by any of those technicians. For the whole week i have been trying to reach them and they either hang up or simply tell me that the parts have not arrived. After waiting for around 10 days , i raised the issue again with the Customer care and i spoke with one Mr.Sanjit and i asked for an escalation. My call was transferred to one Mr.Karthick who keenly listened to my woes and assured help. He even arranged for a conference call with the service station and then on that day , 4-2-2011 , during the conference call , the technician told that the parts they have ordered has not been approved from WSP side and that they needed snapshots to approve the same. IS it that Lenovo does not believe their own technicians??!!! . Immediately Karthick got some one named "Mangal" (I dont remember the name exactly) and i was told that this person was incharge of approvals and he has approved the parts to be dispatched from the ware house as Karthick was convinced that it was enovo's mistake to have make me wait so long. He himself said the very words during the call.. Karthick also assured me that i will get my issue closed within Monday (7-2-2011). He promised me that he will let know of the status by saturday (5-2-2011). But to my dismay again , i never got any calls from Lenovo. i called them that afternoon around 5 pm and i got the surprise of my life . Karthick told that these parts which has been approved to be dispatched is not available in INDIA and has to come from China.. and the highlight was that
1) Only these parts are not available in India.
2) Karthick told that this problem of HINGE issue has never happened in Y560 which surely is unbelievable. I can see this has happened in many y560 and even the lenovo forums have disucssions about it.
3) He has asked me to wait for another 3 days from now till (9-2-2011) wednesday to know the status of the parts. I just cannot understand how long shoul id wait for this?
Status as of now :
- My case id is still in process.
-How come a country like India does not have spare parts of such things anywhere across the nation when they are selling their brand across all states.
-Why did it take Lenovo so many calls from my side (a customer) to act and stilll provide an unclear picture.
- Did not the authorities who approved the parts know the availablity of the same.
- Is it really true that ONLY these parts are unavailable.. I really cant believe this.
-I have been waiting for neary 10 days now without a cear picture of when will my issue be fixed.
- I m so upset with the way the customer care and technicians have handled the issue.
-Can the machine be replaced if the parts are not available in the country as quoted by Lenovo authorities?
Can some one take this case and follow this up and hep the issue to be closed and my parts replaced as fast as possible.?
Details that can be helpful:
my machine serial number: XXXXXXX
Warranty status as per Lenovo site : under warranty
Case id for the Hinges issue : 4270154295
My mobile number is available with the case id. Can i look for some faster solutions ateast through this forum???

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Y 560 Left Hinge Issue

I just wanted to report that I'm having issues with my left hinge as well. It's very similar though not identical in nature. Anyway' I had noticed that my left hinge was looser than the right hinge a long time ago, very soon after the purchase. and after I got my machine back from the service center after they replaced my motherboard. I never though much of it, but I decided to investigate this morning. As I was opening and closing the laptop, I noticed that the back of the computer next to where the battery is bulges out a bit when i open the computer, and bends in when I close it. It only happens on the left side. Then, I turn my computer upside down to see if there are any loose screws, and I see a weird piece of plastic in the screw hole where the bulge occurs, and I pull it out. I turns out it's a section of twisty tie, the kind that you use to close your sandwich bread bags. After I pulled that out, the screw straight up just fell out of the hole. There was nothing holding that screw in place except for that little section of twisty tie! Anyway, even with the screw out, the bulge hasn't gotten any worse, and the screen hasn't gotten any looser, which tells me that nothing has been attached to the other end of the screw for a long time now. I'm going to call the service center to see if they can replace the body of the machine, or possibly send me a replacement. I'll update you with any news. Update: So I got in contact with Lenovo and am getting ready to ship my machine off tomorrow. I told the person on the line about the issue and despite what I said, he seemed to believe that I was the cause of the issue. I would have given him a piece of my mind, but he didn't say anything direct to me, and I can see why he would be suspicious. Anyway, he said that should they replace the actual casing of the machine at the repair center, I will have to pay for it ($187 he says) even if it wasn't my fault. Let me repeat again that IT CAME BACK TO ME IN THIS CONDITION. The only things about the casing that has changed since I got it back from the repair center the first time is smudges, fingerprints and dust. Also, the twisty tie holding in the screw I mentioned... It was black. All the ones I have in my house are green, so I know it didn't come from me. So yeah, the support center guy survived unscathed, but if the repair depot calls me and demands money from me for something THEY broke, they are DEFINITELY getting a piece of my mind, and the BBB will be hearing about this. Again, I will update with any news.

Hi, I purchased my Envy M6 about three years ago. It is obviously out of warranty. Today, the left hinge mechanism failed.I am unable to close the lid without causing further damage, as case is splitting aroud the hinge. After briefly looking for solutions to this problem I was astounded by the sheer number of reports of the exact same malfunction occuring on this device. With countless reports of the problem, I find it incomprehensable that there has been no recall to resolve the malfunctioning parts.  Rather than a recall, the information I can find through these forums suggests that HP is charging customers for the privilage of repairing their malfunctioning product.I'm hoping that HP is able to address this issue!

I've seen tons of post regarding the left hinge issue on the envy 17.  I also have this problem, have replaced two fans due to the plastic part the hings screws into break ing and getting into the fan.   Also I'm beyond the waranty period.  Havs HP created a repair kit or replacement case with better design to fix my laptop issue?   Laptop is only 2 years old.  I hope HP will stand behind their product and help customers with this issue

Bought my wife a new HP Envy, inherited her old Envy 17 inch and realized that when you open the screen the bottom panel separates some in the left corner by left hinge. I guess this is a ongoing problem for these models. Wondering if HP is doing anything about this issue through means of out of warranty assistance? For me the biggest concern is that this will get worse and affect the fan or worse the hinge will break completely.

The left hinge of my laptop has suddenly come off due to which the whole screen and back cover keep opening up. This is ridicculous since i have used the laptop very carefully. This looks like a design flaw and HP must repair the laptop or replace it for me.

Issue with left hinge on this $1000 laptop where the chassis is separating from the frame.  Pieces of plastic rattling around inside the case and jamming the cooling fan.  Out of warranty.  Opened up the back thinking I could tighten some screws, and found that the cheap plastic case has broken off altogether.  What an extremely poor design.  I would like to see a detailed parts list and discounted pricing for repair parts to address this obvious quality issue.  As several other have mentioned, my future business of my family with HP is at stake.

As this is an additional hinge problem among my household of hp laptops, it becomes most difficult to defend hp's reputation among my circle of relatives and friends. This time it is my spouses laptop.  I was close by when I heard a loud screach/crack/pop as the lid was raised.  Then the fan apparently engaged a piece of loose plastic and began to tap away struggling to recover.  I grabbed it and tilted enough to seemingly shift it so the particle disengaged but surely this is only temporary.   I've little appreciation for the panic it instilled for an issue that should not exist.  Now wondering if I should reach for greater peace of mind and replace all with new and different.   Any suggestions?

I have HP Envy 17 laptop and noticed that the left hinge got loose and something is rattling inside a screw or a piece of plastic. I worry that is can get stuck in the fan and cause hardware issues. I've read a number of posts on this forum, indicating that this is a rather common issue with these laptops, which is likely due to the flaw in the design. I wonder if HP can do something to help. Thanks.

I discovered back in August that when lifting the monitor up, the bottom chasis was separating from the top. Upon further investigating, I found out that a small silver barrel used as leverage to prop the monitor open had completely SHATTERED. Furthermore, this barrel also served as a "nut" for the bottom screw to attach the bottom chasis to the top. The material has the consistency of nickel and it astonishes me that Lenovo would use such soft metals at a point where there would be the most structural stress. So I've been researching this issue and it seems that it's ONLY the left hinge that has everyone's laptop in a bind. The problem with mine is that it's is a few months removed from warranty. Prior to purchasing this laptop, I had done a load of research on it and I do not recall this issue coming up. But now that it has happened, it seems to have happened abruptly to a lot of customers. I've noticed that the posts have been popping up consistently since June, July, August, Sept, and now. What I want to know is if anyone has gotten this common issue fixed? And if so, was it under/out of warranty? And if it was out of warranty, did it cost anything? I certainly don't want to pay for a fix since I truly believe it is a design flaw. I also don't believe it's customer induced since it's NECESSARY TO OPEN THE MONITOR TO USE THE KEYBOARD. The laptop has been subjected to NORMAL USE and it has never been dropped on the ground nor seen agressive movements. An... Read more

Left hinge broke on my Acer laptop here on March 13, 2017, and when I tried to close my laptop not realizing the plastic had split it cracked my touch screen.  I called Acer to see if this issue had been addressed as a "known issue" that they would repair but it isn't.  I also asked if the newer laptops have addressed this problem and I could purchase one without worrying about it, but they would not comment on that and just said anything outside of 3 years isn't covered. A quick Google search has turned up this issue as fairly common and occuring anywhere from 6 months and beyond of ownership.  Can anyone tell me if the newer laptops they produce have this issue?  I can't see myself justifying buying a similar product with the exact same issue that Acer refuses to address when you have other options for which the hardware seems much more stable and the cost comparable.  Does anyone have any insight to this beyond what I've experienced?

Answer:Acer laptop 3.5 years old broken left hinge issue

>>>A quick Google search has turned up this issue as fairly common and occuring anywhere from 6 months and beyond of ownership. >>> Not common. But does happen to most brands in my experience. Especially when one is in the habit of regularly and often opening and closing the lid on stepping away from the machine. The other vulnerability from this habit are the conductor trace lines on the video ribbon cable which threads tightly thru the hinge area. I've had this product for a little under 2 years. Today the fourth major problem with it occurred. The left hinge supporting the screen has come loose and is pulling away the base of the laptop. I can hear what sounds like cracking as I open the lid and a screw inside - moving around. I have treated this PC like a new-born baby so it is most defiantly a manufacturing fault. I?ve checked other threads and this problem has been apparent to countless other people with the same model PC. At almost 1000 I expect far higher quality from such a product. Had a known about these issue beforehand I would not bought it and I feel now I have been mis-sold the product as it is clear that it has a clear manufacturing fault with it. The fact that these products were not recalled for the faults with them is ridiculous. I would like to know what can be done about this in order to rectify the problem. Here is a link to the exact product details and an image below of the problem. http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04356668 & http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/17-quot-HP-Envy-Coming-apart-at... I do hope that something will be done and I won't have to contact trading standards.

I have two issues. The first is that my battery stopped charging right after by warranty exprired causing me to be unable to use my laptop unless it is plugged in. The second is that the left hinge is broken, causing my bottom case to come apart. This has also caused an issue with my fan (from a broken piece interfearing?) which causes my laptop to overheat.  This is unacceptable. This laptop was expensive and I depend on it daily to run my business.

Lenovo India is suggesting me to replace the defective left hinge along with the entire body of my laptop amounting to Rs 6000 approx. Since adp is not covered here in India for me coz I got mine from the states. My question here is how has lenovo classified this case under accidental damage even after so many users have complained about this issue. It is clearly a build defect and should be covered under base warranty.please provide a viable reason for me to pay such a hefty amount after spending a fortune on my machine and which clearly shows the shortcomings in the building of this laptop.I got this laptop in December 2015Kindly provide the solution at the earliestRegards,Abhishek

The right hinge broke on my ENVY m6. Now the left one is about to go. The waranty is up and I have noticed that this is a common problem with this product. I should hope that there has been a recall on this. HP should at least repair the issue free of charge (waranty or no waranty). I take great care of my things and my computer is no exception. Please give me advice on this one. I am extremely disappointed at this point.

Very frustrated with this...I opened the laptop gently as I would always do  and the hinge on the left side of the laptop just snapped and popped out of the plastic monitor frame.  The design of the hinges are just terrible and i can now see how they work because the case has been damaged just from opening and closing the laptop.  I can now see inside the whole left side of the case.  To top it off I have already invested considerable time into upgrading the OS to Windows 10 and customizing and installing software on this laptop. I cannot close my laptop entirely since the screen closes on an incorrect angle. Since I am out of warranty, is there any way to fix this problem? After reading several posts, it seems to be a common problem with the envy models.

Question: Left Hinge

I have had the HP Envy for some time and expected it to be a premium product by HP leading me to believe that it would be a good long term laptop to use. Unfortanately, this is not the case, after spending a huge sum of money on a laptop I would not expect the laptop to have such a stupid problem, where the laptop seperates from it's casing. After doing some research I have found that this is a regular fault and HP aren't doing much about it. I am giving HP a last chance to contact me as to what they can do for me before taking action myself.

Question: Left hinge

Hi This is about the back cover below the left hinge which pops out around 4 to 5 mm when laptop is opened or closed. After checking, it seems that the back cover area that supports the left hinge is very weak and damages easily. I always thought that every laptop maker has tests which certifies how well a laptop deals with continuous opening and closing. Obviously corners have been cut and quality control have not been vigilant. With the number of complaints this has, HP should do an unconditional recall to redeem their name. I was considering getting a Spectre for my wife but now I have doubts about thier quality and customer focus.

Hi there,I recently ordered an X1 2017 but sent it back for several reasons. One minor issue with it was that the left hinge was slightly crooked. Not by a lot, some might not even notice, but for me not really acceptable for a 2k5? device. Unfortunately it was the first thing I noticed during unboxing. With the lid closed you see that it's not parallel to the rest of the device. Meanwhile I have ordered one again and unfortunately it's the same in terms of crooked hinge. So I'm suspecting a general "problem". Obviously the support team never ever heard of such a thing.Just wondering - how is your's? I don't think I'll do anything about it since I don't think the service team will do a better job than the factory and generally things don't tend to get better by taking them apart. However - just curious if I'm the only one. Cheers, reach

My left display hinge is also acting up and the left corner seems to be coming apart from the force being applied by the hinge especially as the display is hinged down to its closed position.  I've been suspecting something was weird for some time now but recently I'm afraid it will break soon, what can be done?  My laptop is out of warranty (bought from Costco) but otherwise is in perfect condition and I use it daily.  It is crazy this is happening.

Question: Broken left hinge

I have had my Envy for about 2 years. The left hinge has broken and when I went to have it repaired, I was told it would cost over $300! This same thing happened to the HP laptop I had previously that this new one replaced! The repair place told me is was the exact same thing that happened to my old laptop and that it was a common issue! Why hasn't there been a recall? Obviously this is happening constantly! Does anyone know how to fix the issue?Thank you

I haven't had my HP ENVY TS 17 Notebook but a little over 2 years and my left hinge has broken. I took it to a computer tech and he said you guys do not have a recall on this issue nor do you have any intention of solving the issue. I can not afford to buy another laptop and this is the 6th HP I have owned including desktops. I will not buy another one unless this problem is taken care of. I would like some feed back on this as I see there are numerous people with the same problem. Thanks!

Question: HP envy left hinge

I've read in the forum that someone got their laptop repaired at NO COST?? Even after lapse of warranty? Wow, what did you do to convince HP to do this? I have sent several requests and complaints and a HP rep phoned to ask about it then told me to pay $300.00 for the repair. I do believe a substandard quality back cover which undoubtedly costs very cheaply to make is a good trade of for keeping customers. But it seems HP is more concerned about making money once and not considering about after sales and follow up sales. They certainly lost me and I was considering buying the Spectre but not anymore. BTW I checked an online supplier for the back cover and it sells for $35.00 from China but I prefer to do the repairs myself.

Question: Left Hinge problem

We have purchase our HP Envy TS 15 from Costco online about 3 years ago. The warranty has expired. About couple of months ago I saw the left hinge seperating from the casing. It makes a clicking sound when the screen is closed/opened. I am not sure if may be getting worse. But today, not sure if this is related but I realized the battery was drained and although the computer was plugged, it was not charging.  After reading numerous other posts on this hinge issue, I wanted to see if HP can provide a path forward to resolve the issue and repair my computer. Thanks for your time, Alp

My left hinge is broken I am guessing by reading other complaints? I have had this laptop for a little over a year and have never mishandled it in and kind of way. Now it will not turn on because it is saying problems with the fan because everytime I open it the bottom pops off. I tried to email HP but they would not reply because my warranty was up August 15th. I was wondering how much it would cost for HP to fix it? Or the Geek Squad with Best Buy? I need it fixed as soon as possible! It is my school laptop.

My HP Envy 17 SE has shown the well-known left hinge error in its hinge area, something consistent with recent complaints in a design flaw. I purchased it in 2014 for my university usage and it's right at that critical point in my Senior year where I cannot go without this dependable laptop. Took it to get looked at and evaluated at a local shop and they said that the needed part to stop the splitting is no longer available. It looks like its an external thing and the left hinge pops. It is horrible to have such a bad issue when the brand is generally dependable but I am sad to say that this happened fairly recently after my warranty expiration. Left hinge pops and it seems like my laptop is now nothing but a glorified desktop. Are there any solutions to this? This brand has been dependable for my family and I happened to get the ENVY's "flawed" design as my university pick.

Left hinge issue - the very same I have been reading about in this blog. I purchased my beloved laptop in August of 2013, it is NOT a refurbished item ; it is the Beats Audio version. This is the second time this has happened to my laptop, the first time was about 1.5 years ago. An excellent service technician at Future Shop was able to take the back off to find the tiny screw that had worked its way out, there wasn't even a charge for the service. I miss this technician, she was the best one I have ever dealt with. Before this issue my warranty was coming up so I took it in for a tune up. I mentioned I was having issues with the sound; I thought it was a software issue, it wasn't. They ended up sending it back to HP, the motherboard was replaced. Now the left hinge is gone again, this time I am told that HP doesn't have replacement parts as now small pieces have broken off inside. My option is to have it glued with no guarantee.I NEED my laptop. I can't afford a new one as I graduated from college a few months ago with no job yet. What are my options; can I have another one built from the good parts?

The left hinge of my Aspire E series laptop is so off the hook now, when I open and close the computer it exposes a gap and you can see the computer inside. That can't be good! Also, over the two years I've had it, the small screws on the bottom fall out and I have to constantly screw them back in - one of them being the left hinge corner screw. And now I can't even screw a screw in as it just turns round and round. I don't know what to do...is it over for this computer? This is the second Aspire I've had in only five years.

So I was working on my laptop last night, and while I was trying to move the screen to have a better view, the latch suddenly broke. I had no idea why it could just break like that. My laptop is still working just fine, except with the broken latch the screen is not level. I called Lenovo customer service this morning, and the rep. said I could send the laptop to them tomorrow. She asked me if it was an accident, because if it was, I might have to pay for the service. I don't quite understand how Lenovo can determine whether a certain damage is caused by accident or simply poor product quality? I'm really anxious about this because I have so many papers to turn in for school, and several work-related documents. Has anyone in here experienced the same problem? If so, how did Lenovo deal with your case? I'd be grateful to hear from you 'cause I would seriously never do business with Lenovo anymore if they charged me to have the latch fixed.

Answer:SL400 left hinge broke

i have had this laptop for just over 2 years now. i can't remember when this problem started because at first it was hardly noticeable, but for at least a few months now i have been having issues with my the left hinge/corner on my laptop. apparently this is a pretty common problem among many acer models. at first it seemed as though the hinge had gotten slightly out of place and would need to kind of pop back in every once in a while as i opened or closed the lid. i wasn't worried about it until a several weeks passed and it was happening every single time i opened or closed the lid. when i turned the laptop around so i had a better look at the hinge, i saw that the 2 plastic pieces that hold the laptop together were actually splitting apart in the corner. this has only gotten worse over time--the gap between the pieces keeps getting wider and the split travels further. i think it's inevitable that pretty soon the power adapter is going to shift out of place because of this and i won't be able to charge the laptop, rendering it useless. is there anything i can do to fix this other than replacing the lid/hinges? i feel like even if i get the parts replaced, the same thing is just going to start happening again eventually. should i just go ahead and start saving for a new laptop (NOT another acer)?

My laptop, purchased 6 months ago has always had a tight left hinge.  It has recently gotten to the point where I cannot open or close it without a very real risk of the whole bezel cracking.  Unfortunately, when I attempted to claim this repair under the warranty, I was told that I would have to pay for the repair since it wasn't covered (!!!).  Anyways, there is absolutely no way that I will pay the extreme price that Acer quoted me, as it was nearly the price of the laptop new.  However, I am having difficulty finding the specific model for the hinges to purchase and fix on my own.  While there are many acer hinges to be found, I am not sure which would be compatible.  Does anyone have any information on which hinges would be appropriate for replacements?Thank you

Answer:Left hinge on E5-575G too tight

A small update, I have had my second (more clarifying) warranty claim to Acer rejected and also called the technical support hotline.  I was told that Acer does not cover physical damage.  Well, this is physical damage caused by their manufacturing processes.  I am very miffed at the moment that Acer cannot fix an issue that they caused. But, on the brighter side, I am willing to attempt to fix this problem myself if I can find the proper replacement hinges.  Does anyone know which hinges are compatible?  All of the normal parts websites listed do not seem to list the E5-575G-53G next to any of their hinges so I have not been able to find the appropriate ones.  I hesitate to go through the parts supplier that Acer pointed me to, as I do not want to support Acer in any way in the future.

And now I can't even screw a screw in as it just turns round and round. I don't know what to do...is it over for this computer? This is the second Aspire I've had in only five years.

i have had this laptop for just over 2 years now. i can't remember when this problem started because at first it was hardly noticeable, but for at least a few months now i have been having issues with my the left hinge/corner on my laptop. apparently this is a pretty common problem among many acer models. at first it seemed as though the hinge had gotten slightly out of place and would need to kind of pop back in every once in a while as i opened or closed the lid. i wasn't worried about it until a several weeks passed and it was happening every single time i opened or closed the lid. when i turned the laptop around so i had a better look at the hinge, i saw that the 2 plastic pieces that hold the laptop together were actually splitting apart in the corner. this has only gotten worse over time--the gap between the pieces keeps getting wider and the split travels further. i think it's inevitable that pretty soon the power adapter is going to shift out of place because of this and i won't be able to charge the laptop, rendering it useless. is there anything i can do to fix this other than replacing the lid/hinges? i feel like even if i get the parts replaced, the same thing is just going to start happening again eventually. should i just go ahead and start saving for a new laptop (NOT another acer)?

The left Hinge on my HP Envy has become loose; this poses a problem when opening/closing the lid as it grinds against the casing.  I've had a lot of difficulty navigating HP's Customer support website.  I travel a lot with this laptop and despite treating it with great care the hinge has come loose/broken (from what I understand has become a common problem).  I am out of the warranty and was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a few repair options.  I like HP, I find this whole issue disheartening.   Thank you for any help you can give.

Hello. The left hinge of my laptop was broken after less than 100 open / close cycles. Service center says it's not a warranty issue, but if judge by google search it is a design flaw, because every next user has the same problem. Please advise where should I sent a complaint?

The left hinge on my Envy notebook seems to be malfunctioning and is separating the bottom case, leaving a gap an making it next to impossible to open the computer.  It sounds very much like the same problem as others are reporting but I haven't seen a public asnwer. Any ideas what the best way to have it fixed is? Can I fix it myself? It's a 3 year old computer, functioning well otherwise but I'd hate to have to put a lot of money into it.  Thanks!

Hello.

I have an Asus X56TA laptop. It worked like a charm until yesterday, when suddenly, without any warnings, my left hinge just broke off when I was closing the screen.

It seems that the hinge just got _completely_ stuck. Really, like it was made of solid concrete. So when the screen worked as a lever, it easily broke off.

To illustrate my problem, here are some pictures:

Anyone has any tips what to do with this? Is there any chance of making the hinge work again? If yes, I thought of using some very powerful glue to "repair" the hinge. The plastic cover is 100% OK, so I only need some usability

I also found a brand new hinge for my notebook model on eBay. Is it possible to remove the broken hinge and install the new one?

Thanks in advance for all the tips.

Hello, I have a problem with the left hinge on my HP Envy 17 Quad Edition Laptop. At some point the casing around the hinge started breaking up causing litle bits of plastic to rattle around inside the laptop. This caused the fan to stop working resulting in 90B errors on startup. The lid is now stuck in the open position and cannot be closed without further damanging the laptop.  This laptop is over 3 years old and out of warranty, but otherwise in great condition.  I would simply like to get the casing repaired. Can HP help me with this?

After two years of use the left Hinge on my HP Envy broke.  Where does one get it fixed and is it fixable?  It seems to interfer with the usage if one moves the lid back and forth.  Is it connected to hardware that will evenutally shut my computer down?  I would rather be able to take it a part and put a replacement hinge instead of sending it away?

Hi --- the left hinge of my HP Spectre ultrabook started breaking. When i open the laptop, whatever the hinge is attached to on the half with the screen seems to be delaminating. I have to hold the hinge as I open it so that the screen does not break away. Looking at the forums, this seems to be a common problem. Can anyone share how I can get this fixed? thank you! Roman

I have the  same problem described above. Envy 17 (silver) i5 - the corner of the case is spreading apart and now it is also happening on the right side. I have had to use gorilla tape to try to hold the case together.  It appears that this is a design flaw for this laptop. The laptop works, but over time, I'm afraid that it will get so bad that it will not run.  Is there a replacement case available?  Thank you.

Does anyone else have this problem? the left hinge broken so it comes up now when the lid is lifted. Called a repair shop but it's estimated to be over 100. Possible to fix by myself?

Answer:SL400 broken left hinge!

I have the same problem, left hinge too! Tried uGlu, did not work, do not recommend trying to use it. The funny thing is that while closing the display you can clearly see the fragile piece of plastic that was used and where it is broken.

Like many others have experienced/posted, the left hinge on my pavilion has bulged and cracked the casing. I take care of my laptops and have not dropped it at any time. I first noticed the hinge problem last night, and I can now no longer open the laptop with hearing a grinding sound. This laptop is 2-3 years old and no longer under any warranties. I'm a student and cannot afford the $250+ repairs. Is hp doing anything about this common problem?

Wow , I have had the same problem , left hinge screw and besel came off and then got stuck between the screen and keyboard . Went to close the lap top and the screw was stuck in the hinge and next thing you know I have a cracked screen. Bought this laptop in December still under warranty , but HP says that this is not a know issue so they will not cover physical damage. Then I find this message board and wow , here we are all with a left hinge screw issue. Only problem this caused a broken screen. My case has been escalated still waiting for a call or email .  Any one have any advise? Geek Squad wants over 1000.00 to fix screen , that is more than I paid for the laptop new. Really disapointed in HP service , have a second HP Envy 17 in shop under warranty repair for a fan malfunction , they are fixing that one. This really may be my last HP. I own about 14 machines between my office and home. May be time to look for something else.
