I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

This is how I fixed my wobbling screen. My laptop is almost 4yrs old and it is the Y550p(i7). Within my 4yrs I have dropped my laptop and even chipped my slide nav. Now I have it in desktop mode, because my iPad replaced it in portability. The problem I had was screen not staying open in the position I wanted, because of the loose hinge. http://youtube.com/watch?v=fzmjH1rM1DY

I purchased a Lenovo X220 Tablet through my High School. Its a great computer, but really built horribly. It is not even 7 months after having it, and my screen is starting to get extremely flimsy. I have heard there is a way to fix this, love to! Thansk!

Answer:Loose Tablet Screen Hinge

if what you mean by flimsy is wobbly screen hinge, then you would need to send the laptop in for repair.

I've had my Y550 for about 3 months now and everythings been fine with the construction of the computer. However, I bought this computer because the screen hinge on my last computer slowly broke down to the point where it was difficult to keep the screen in one position because it flapped around so much. Now, only 3 months in, the screen hinge is loosening quickly,, and moves back and forth over an inch, or several degrees. I thought this was a good computer. Now I'm worried the same thing that took 3 years to happen to my old laptop is going to happen within 6 months on this one. Is this fixable with a quick fix or can i send it in on warranty?

Happened yesterday. I always knew the case itself was a bit weak, but honestly, I didnt expect this after 1.5 years of normal use. I dont even move the laptop around that much... So ye, the screen hinge on the left side is now broken in half, so some of it is still in and the screen is in place (more or less), but Im worried for how long and what the consequences could be if I start moving it around, or if it breaks off entirely.  I've called the local support, they want to take my laptop for 2 weeks to replace this, which is just unacceptable beacuse of my work and uni finals, and honestly, its just a hinge, how long can it take.... Does anyone have similar experience? How did you fix it? I know my way around a computer, so it shouldnt be too hard to do it myself, but what should I look out for?  Thank you for your time!

The right hinge on my M 30 is to loose. I have tryed to dismantle the keyboard without succes, what to do?

Answer:Hinge on Satellite M30 is loose

Hi there,

the problem is that you cannot repair it only by tighten some screws. If the hinge on this model is loose then you will need new hinges and to exchange them, the whole machine must be disassembled since the hinges are partially under the palm rest and on the lcd installed.

So, if you want to fix that you should search for an technician which can fix it. Better solution would be to contact an authorized service partner:

The Thinkpad hinge are renowned for its toughness any play or sloppiness in a new hinge, means problems, even my old 4 year old already dead T42 have no play in the hinge whatsoever. My T400 does not have any play in the hinge whatsoever.  I had a hinge in mine T60 replaced under warranty due to the play, and now it is wonderful once again.

I have had my HP Omen for about 8 or 9 months and slowly the hinge is becoming loose on the screen. So basically if i grab the screen to tilt downward it will move about and inch forward before the grips the hinge and start moving. LIkewise if I hold the laptop by its base and tilt it back and forth the screen will loosely flop back and forth about an inch without affecting the position of the actual hinge. Please advice me on how I can rectify this. I plan to have the computer for at least 2 or 3 more years. Best regards, Scott Georgson

Answer:X230T Loose hinge?

Hi Bjc92,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m really sorry to hear that hinges of your Lenovo X230T had become loose after continuous switching between tablet and laptop mode.

Please refer to pages 67 & 103 in this user guide to see how to remove or fix hinge cap/ hinges.

Also, note that the hinges on laptops often become loose through wear and tear and will result in a screen that will not stay in place. In that case, tightening the hinges alone might not help resolve the issue. The hinges may have to be replaced.

Hope this information helped!

Best regards,
Mithun.

I had been enjoying my Pavilion but unfortunately, that was short-lived. Even though I am a very caring user of electronics I was surprised when one day the left hinge for my Pavillion's lid came loose (I think a screw might have fallen off). From researching online I understand that this issue has been happening, a lot, to others as well. Before it gets worse and affects an otherwise well functioning computer, if you could please fix this issue. Before this issue occurred to my Pavillion, I have been regularly recommending HP laptops to family and friends. One of the hinges on my two week old Yoga 11s is looser than the other. As I open the lid and push it back, the left hinge rotates somewhat, but the right one stays firm. Finally, once I reach 180 degrees, they level out. I can also equalise them by closing the screen back up somewhat after opening it. It's not a huge difference between the hinges, but I'm aware of it, and it's kind of annoying given i've only just bought it.  Is this single-hinge looseness normal? Is it worth getting serviced, or are both hinges going to be as loose as barn doors in a few months time?

The left hand hinge on my wife's HP Spectre X360 is loose. It looks like the right hand hinge is taking most of the weight and the screen leans slightly as a result of this. It has been like this for a number of months, but is starting to get worse. Unfortunately, I didn't report it previously and the warranty ran out just over 2 weeks ago. My concern is that not only is the left hand hinge getting looser, the additonal weight on the right hand hinge will lead excessive wear and the risk that this hinge will fail as well. is there any way HP will repair the faulty hinge, as it appears to be a known issue.

The screw on the back under the right side hinge has become loose and fallen out twice.I put it back in the first time nice and tight and tightened all the other screws. It just fell out again!  This is with gentle handling.  And it took less than a month to wiggle loose.Would using a little Locktite blue on the screw when I put it back void my warrantee?

No, the use of Locktite blue won't void the warranty and is probably a very good idea since this is a reoccurring problem. Be sure to just use a tiny dab on the threads.

How loose? Depending on the region of the country, this may or may not be covered under warranty. The hinge has to be swapped, it can't be tightened.

Is it normal for some of the hinges to be slightly loose on the yoga 900? I wasn't sure since not all of them are loose. Also, I have one of the caps on the edge loose as well which I can take off and put back on (without it falling off easily).  The right hinge of my HP pavillion m6 1035dx entertainment notebook pc. What is the most economic way of fixing this simple issue. I figure I would go straight to HP as, business to customer, to ensure a better customer experience that is more frictionless with less obstacles. I bought this laptop as manufactured refurbed and assume maybe the hinge was loose in the first place because I have kept good care. I plan on upgrading the internal hardware as well but I need to make sure that the hinges and rest of external casing is dexterous and durable. Moreover, I can't find a reputable third party that I trust. So, I am going directly to HP. Please reply to me and give what options I can use. I figured I can just send my Laptop to HP and HP fixes it and sends it back or if there is a reputable third party HP can recommend. However, I strongly believe that HP is a better option in both HP and my interests. Third party is just a middle man that costs more not only for me but as well as for HP. Thus, no need for a middleman and I strongly believe in a simple customer experience and customer relations. otherwise, HP will be tarnished in customer service. Hi, I've noticed over the past couple months that my laptop's hinge on the left side was coming apart, which was concerning. I just recently realized that this was not my fault, but instead that 2 screws on the bottom Near the hinges are actually missing. I don't know if they have always been in there or if they fell out, but according to these forums, replacement screws won't work because the part they screw into is broken or something? My warranty has been up for awhile and I don't really know what to do about this to get it fixed? Any help would be great!

Hi: I received x1 carbon touch in late December. First I ran into touch screen issue. This issue was fixed by running a calibration program I got from my internal Lenovo support. Yesterday when I opened the laptop I heard a cracking noise and the hinge separated from the cover and screen is also loose. The screen is not cracked and laptop still works.Whenever I open the laptop the screen separates from the bezel. I push them together and they snap but always separate when I open or close the laptop.I showed it to my technician at work and he told me that warranty will not cover this issue as it is physical damage. There was not physical damage to my X1 carbon touch. Now we have to pay for new lcd bezel, hinge kit and rear LCD cover. These may be expensive and I have no way of knowing if this will happen again., After using Lenovo PC's for the past 10 years this is unexpected. I saw one more person who can the exact same problem. Let me know if you have any suggestion for me.

Answer:x1 carbon loose hinge bezel

Had the same problem on my daughter's X1 Carbon Touch (34xx). Disassembled per the hardware manual to see what was wrong. Turns out that the two right-hand-side hinge screws had detached from the cover because the brass fitting into which they were screwed had become separated from the cover (they were just wedged into a plastic hole), effectively freeing the cover. Not impressed with the design. Am investigating brass-to-plastic glues...

After I have been using spectre x360 for a couple weeks, I noticed that the hinge is quite loose particularly at 90 to 180 degrees. And I can wobble it at some point without using any force. Moreover, when I hold the base while the screen is more than 90 degrees and shake the notebook a little bit, the screen will bend far to the back. It looks like the hinge is too loose and can not hold the weight of the screen. Is there any way to tighten it?Thanks.

Hey, everyone I have a Lenovo y560 that I purchased in 2010 and I've had to get Lenovo to repair the same hinge issue on three separate occasions,  also two of the three times that a technichan replaced the hinge they ended up damaging my computer.  The hinge issue that I had was the left hinge always seems to become loose, because of a design flaw. The exact problem that I've had is explained more in depth here : http://forum.notebookreview.com/ideapad-essential/543887-y560-hinge-issue-explained.html Anyway, my hinge is acting up again and I feel that it is unfair to me to have to pay to get this hinge fixed again because Lenovo can not provide me with a permanent fix for my problem. My case number is : WN373530 Are my options just to stop dealing with Lenovo and go with another computer manufacterer that can provide quality products and provide permenant solutions? I wanted to know if anyone could provide me with some insight or suggestions as to what I should do next.   Thanks,  -Vlad

Answer:Lenovo Y560 Hinge Issue

Also, I wanted to know if anyone could provide me with contact information to Lenovo's complaint department as I have been fed up with thier poor customer service, poor quality products and horrible repairs. I will not recommend Lenovo to anyone and make sure to spread the word about their poor products and customer service. -Vlad

Good evening, i own a X200t on which the hinge appears to be kind of loose. When opening the screen and letting it in a position before 90 degrees, it falls back some centimeters (3-4 cm). Also, when standing on a table in laptop-mode, the display is wobbling with every little movement of the desk. It's annoying (esp. when using it in train) compared to my former X200s, which was rock-solid. Is this typical or should i call Lenovo Service ? Kind regards, pepun.

Answer:X200t - Display wobbling - Hinge loose?

I don't think that's normal.  I have a new X200t and the display does not wabble like that, although it's *nowhere* near as sturdy as a T-series that I have access to.

Hello, I bought the T61 in 2008 with 3 year warranty in USA. My T61 is showing the loose hinge problem which has been encountered by many other forum users. Right now I'm in Chennai, India and the Lenovo warranty center in Alwarpet, Chennai says the hinge problem is not covered under warranty. Could any one from Lenovo confirm this for me. Thank you, Thaniks

Answer:T61 Loose Hinge - Does the warranty cover this issue?

Well i was once told that Lenovo don't cover hinge problem by the Lenovo service personnel, but then on my second attempt and through some coercion they said yes. Mark_Lenovo did mention that the loose hinge is within the normal repair parameter, while many people in the USA have the hinge problem repaired under warranty. This is the message that Mark_Lenovo sent me regarding the issue of hinge and warranty. ------------------------ The hinges should be covered under warranty.  Sometimes the staking of the pin inside the hinge fails - we have several designs - some are "D" shaped which can become rounded, and some are epoxied I believe.   It is also possible that the screws have loosened which hold the hinge to the LCD frame or to the chasis - the locktite did not hold.  If you are in warranty, I would expect us to cover this unless there were visible signs of abuse (like dent or abrasion from being dropped). ----------------------------

Hi,  I have had my spextre for just over a year now. About 6 months or so ago I started to notice the screen wobble a little more, I played it off as nothing. Not so long ago I notice the left hinge is loose, and that is the source of the wobble on the screen. It seems as though the left hinge can be pushed in towards the laptop a couple of mm signlalling to me it is not properly secured. Is there a fix for this? TIA!

Hi,

the hinge on my 2410-603 notebook has worked loose to the point where it will not stay up unless i lean it against something. I was wondering if i am able to tightenen this somehow or whether it would need replacing. Anyone have a guide of how to get at the hinge??, or anyone know how much a replacement one is likely to cost??.

I have searched on the net however havn't been able to find anything as yet.

Thank you in advance,
Jamie

Answer:Loose/Broken hinge on my Satellite 2410-603

Hi,

unfortunately it?s not possible to tighten it, so you will have to purchase new hinges.
I suggest you following:

Look at ebay for such machine you have (maybe a defective would be good) and let a technician exchange it or ask an authorized service partner how many an exchange of the hinges will cost.
If you need a link to find a ASP then you can try it here:

Hello to all,

I have a 7 yr old Sony Vaio GR370 laptop with a loose hinge. When
the laptop is open at any viewable angle, there is about 1-1.5in.
of "play" on the LCD portion of the lid. It stays up fine - it's more of an
annoyance then anything else.

Is there any way to tighten/repair/replace the hinges ?

thanks in advance !

Answer:Solved: Sony Vaio - Loose hinge

I'm just guessing, but I think you're missing a retaining screw that holds the hinge post in place.
Look at the back of the machine to see if there is a place for a screw that is missing.

Dear Lenovo team,  Please help me out here. I have Lenovo G40-80 laptop which I had bought roughly an year ago. I had given it for maintainence and cleaning at a lenovo centre. Now the status of this laptop is its screws have started getting loose and the hinge on the right side of screen has come out. I checked it on lenovo international and it is a much more common problem than anticipated. Apparently, there is some issue with design. Please help me here. The laptop is breaking apart and even though it is under warranty, I have been told it is not covered. Please understand that it is not my fault, but according to lenovo's international forum a design fault. Urgently need help!!!

I recieved my HP ENVY Sleekbook 6-1100 se 2 years ago. I was very careful with it and never dropped it. About a year after, the corner near the right hinge began to come loose everytime I open and close the laptop and it is getting worse. The hinge itself looks like it is starting to break also. I searched and I see that HP offered after warranty repair since its a commen issue in this kind of models.

I purchased a Spectre x360 almost two years ago (Sept. 2015) and the laptop worked fine. After about two months, I noticed the hinges did not line up as cleanly but the laptop still opened, closed and folded back without issue. I recently opened my laptop and noticed that the right hinge is shaky and that the screen wobbles a lot because of it. This seems to be a purely physical issue as I "pop" the hinge back into place and it secures. While the screen is still shaky, I am less worried about it this way. I have never dropped my laptop, haven't travelled with it and it sits flat on my desk 99% of the time. How should I proceed? Thanks for your help in advance.

I have had my Y560 for 14 months (2 months past warranty) and the left hinge issue has reared it's ugly head.  I need to replace the bottom part of the case for the laptop but am not able to find the parts needed for sale.  Lenovo Customer Service was no help simply trying to sell me an extended warranty and then finally admitting that the warranty will not fix the hinge issue anyway.  Does anyone know how I can purchase the case parts necessary to repair the machine?  I do not want to go through the hassle of sending it to them to *maybe* have them fix it and then charge me $187.  I would rather pay $187 and fix it myself...I trust me over them.

Hello, The hinge on my HP ENVY TouchSmart 15 has been loose (or broken?) for quite some time. It caused the bottom of my laptop to split open on the side which has the power button (left side).  The laptop was not dropped or damaged in other ways, before I knew it I noticed the issue. First I noticed the screen feeling loose, but only recently I paid closer attention and saw the hinge was loose. Other than the hinge issue, the computer is in good condition and works great. I would hate to lose it because of the hinge. From reading the forum, it seems to be a very common issue with this particular type of laptop. Therefore I am wondering if anything has or can be done to help us who have encountered this issue. Thank you!

To any staff, Long story short, the hinge on my Thinkpad T61p were getting loose (it was moving back and forth) and upon a quick serach, apparently it was a known issue on these laptops. As my warranty was nearing its end, I quickly called Lenovo to have this repaired. Because I was promised that this repair is going to be finished within 5-7 business days, I decided to go ahead and send it away depite that my major requires it 24/7. I've received a box next day and I sent it away on Jan 9th, 2008. I called in today to see what's happening but this employee, who rather got really irritated that I called in, couldnt find my info for 30 mins. After finally finding my info, he mentioned that the hinge is backordered. I politely asked him when I can get the laptop back but he said it could take days.. weeks or possibly up to months.  The sole reason why I sent this laptop for a repair was because they said the turnaround repair would be fast and I believed his word. It's quite dissapointing to hear these kind of delays in repair process when I need this laptop ASAP. There are actually 2 ongoing cases regarding my laptop but none of them are being solved at the moment. The 6 cell battery, which just died a few days ago, was replaced by a 9 cell from Lenovo. I called about this issue as well and hopefully they can get this straightened out. How long does it take for a "back ordered" parts to arrive at the depot? I bought my Hp envy about 18 months ago and a few months ago the hinge started getting loose and I noticed that a few screws were missing. This was a few weeks after It had come back for repair for a bios issue and recently I noticed that the actual bottom plastic was starting to crack and eventually the plastic was sticking out and I struggled to push it back in like I usually did. Ive seen that this issue is extremely common with these laptops and most have said in the HP forums that its a design issue. So I don't want to continue using the laptop in case something major gets damaged. Ive seen in other forums that some users have had there laptops replaced but all im wanting is a quick easy fix. Thanks

Hi, It seems that others have had this problem with a loose hinge too. My screen started fading to white (with faint vertical lines). At first I could jiggle the display and the display would correct but over time it's gotten worse. My computer runs fine otherwise, but I need to use an external monitor or I can't see anything. I'm suspecting a loose connection but can't find a good video showing how to fix this.  So I got a brand new13 inch HP Spectre X360 on August 24. I really wanted this laptop over the Mac because I felt it was lighter than a Pro, more powerful than an Air, had a great display, plus was more vessatile than the two due to its rotation capability. To my disappointment, I quickly found out the trackpad seemed loose (you could feel a slight rattle by lightly pressing down the middle). 15 days later, I exchanged it at Best Buy only to find, low and behold, my new one having the same exact issue with the trackpad. Not only that, but I feel that even the screen hinge is ever so slightly loose. Not that it moves in laptop, tent, or presentation mode -- but when I type quick I feel the screen shake just a tiny bit. Moreover, when in tablet mode, the two halves of the computer (the screen and back of the keyboard underneath it) don't stick together. They pry apart about an inch. I called HP and they said it could be my particular local Best Buy bought a bad bunch or something? I did see other threads on here with people complaining about the trackpad, and some have suggested that there are some 'malfunctioned' unitss and that if one were to keep exchanging, they would eventually get a good one. I also have slight cackling of speakers without headphones when playing music. So should I exchange for a second time? Would Best Buy be upset -- do they have a limit on this sort of thing? And if it helps, I have the three year warranty/Geek Squad tech support package... Read more

I recently purchased the latest Yoga 900 from the Canadian Microsoft store (online).  It is the only option for a 2-in-1 in Canada that you can order with 16GB RAM + 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD.  The laptop arrived quickly and everything is working as expected.  On the centre of the wristwatch hinge there is a type of mesh that goes from front to back that covers a portion of it. The mesh is not centered properly on my unit and it slightly protrudes out of the back of the hinge.  I realise that this is a minor issue, but I'm within Microsoft's 30 day return/exchange period.  The hinge does not appear to be loose, but i've only had the laptop for 3 days now. I took some pictures to help illustrate the issue and I'm curious to see if anyone else has noticed the samething.??????

As the title describes - a screw on my laptop has come loose and gone missing and now the bezel (the thin plastic cover surrounding the keyboard in case my use of bezel is wrong) has separated from the lower half of the casing on the upper right corner of my E145, above the kensington lock and mains input. The LCD hinge is now loose and lifts up when moved, the kensington lock housing also moves with it. This image shows the problem - that's the right side hinge, the separation can be seen at the top of the case and to the right of the kensington lock port, on the hinge itself. I haven't tampered with the screw in any way but did notice the bezel wasn't flush with the battery on this side (it is on the other hinge), so the screw has been loose for some time and finally worked its way free. I posted this thread before I realised the screw had gone but I might as well keep it up (if only to remind anyone else with this problem to check the screws ) but I have two questions: 1. In the event we're unable to find the screw, will it be possible to procure a replacement from Lenovo? When looking at the laptop from the bottom, the screw is located in the top left corner just above the rubber foot and battery release switch 1. 2. If the screw has come loose because the threading is damaged then this will need to be repaired. My laptop's warranty has not yet expired, will the warranty cover these repairs?

I recently flew internationally and my y560 screen seems to have failed. Well actually the display itself does still work as the display will briefly come onto 3/4 of the screen when I press the fn+F2 key combination. I have tried a system restore, I have updated the display drivers, I have checked and changed display settings, I have even updated to the most recent bios (71) all with no success. I am at a loss as to why this has happened as the laptop was in my carry on luggage and was definitely not damaged. The computer does work and the screen itself seems capable of working yet still the display only outputs as a thin line in the centre of the screen. The most frustrating thing is this happened the very day my warranty ran out - but I have to say I'm not too surprised as these y560's are a lemon I've already had to send it back for Lenovo repair twice and had them replace the laptop once for various issues arising from very poor build quality. Has anyone experienced any similar display issues to the one I am experiencing or can someone offer any advice on how I can fix this issue - or even better will Lenovo repair or replace my computer? My business comes to a standstill without it!

i've had a used (eb*y) simpletech 320gb external hard drive since jan and been using it with a replacement mini b w/ dual usb male cord (also eb*y) ...i think it's worked okay (maybe there have been some subtle abnormal noises, i don't know - the other day, before anything "happened", i think i heard a sound like it kept spinning up, winding down, spinning up ...very faint and, brief)
...well, now something is definitely wrong because - i *think* the usb cable had stayed in fairly okay but now, either i've damaged the drive by keeping it plugged in for too long periods, or by accidentally pulling the cord out because... now the drive keeps disconnecting itself and will no longer be detected by my computer if the cord is disturbed at all--now so bad, i can't have it on my laptop on my lap or just ~breathing~ will cause it to disconnect. (and, thinking the cord was just loose, i tried to push it in and, THAT caused it to disconnect another time...)
i've tried to look for info about this problem before asking of you but in my situation it's the, keeping it plugged in for too long periods or accidentally disconnecting the cord, or pushing it in that time that makes me worried i've physically damaged the drive...
do you think i should try just duct taping the cord in place (but not TOO firmly) and/or a replacement cord .........or do you think i've caused something to come loose and may have really damaged the drive?

Hi, not a huge problem but just thought I'd get it checked out. Casing seems like its loose where I rest my arm, on the black strip near the mouse and power buttons are, as when I rest my arm on it when typing it clicks and squeaks on the right hand side and is starting to annoy me. (Don't ask).

Another thing, the hard drive seems loose as that is also clicking. I've tried to tighten up all the available screws that I can see but nothing has changed or helped..is anyone else having a similar problem? Don't want to send it off if that can be helped as it will take a while to come back and I need to use the laptop every day for work.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite L300-1BV loose casing and seems like loose hard drive

Hi.

It seems that you have weird problems with your laptop. I think you must have done some updates to the laptop and now you have those problems. For the black strip panel, if you see a gap between the panel of the mouse and the micro input, you must have left a black thing (in square shape) somewhere before you put everything together. That black thing is used to cover the wireless switch. Also, if that couldn't fix the problem, it is normal if the gap happens after a bad upgrade.

For yoru HDD driver, there are many reasons for it. * I suggest you to give the laptop back to the service to check everything * I hope you haven't broken the warranty policy or they will charge you a little bit.

Regards.

Hi, This may be a very basic question but I have no clue about hardware matters, so I'm hoping someone here can help me - my Lenovo Y560 screen got broken with a huge crack across the screen. I need to get it replaced now but I don't know whether to go for an LED screen or an LCD screen. Some vendors have contacted me telling me I need a "paper LED" replacement, while others have said the replacement would be an "LCD screen". The prices they have quoted for LED and LCD replacement is Rs 3500 and Rs 5500 respectively.  Which screen should I go for? Please help! Thank you in advance.

Hi,I have a laptop Lenovo Y40-70 and some odd plastic circles came out from it other day (it was in the desk, under the laptop). Then I realized that it started to get hard to open and close the screen.  I removed the plastic cover that is in the edge of the lcd screen to take a look in what could be wrong. And here are some pictures: Left hinge (revit broken):   Rigth hinge (revit without problem):   Plastic Circles (revit heads):That odd plastic circles that came out are like a plastic rivet and it are used to hold a metalic plate that connects the lcd structure to the hinge of the screen. In the absence of it the plate is bending and will brake very soon if it continues like that.I am leaving the screen open for now until I found a way to fix it. I put some oil in the hinge for now, but it didn't give me any softness to open and close the screen. Any one have suggestions how to fix it?

Question: Y560 screen is dim

Today I bought a Y560. After setting up the windows I found the screen is dim which hurt my eyes. I was trying to find solution online. I did the following, open the lenovo energy management (via the battery touch sensitive button) then click on the gear icon between "i" and "?" and click on smart control tab and uncheck ALS (Ambient Light Sensor) the settings for brightness settings for battery and A/C plugged in can be changed here (Lenovo Energy Management) for each power scheme (click on the power scheme then click on the gear on the right) and you can change the settings in there. And I also changed the battery to "high performance"But nothing worked. I even figure out that the brightness of my screen will not change whatever my setting in energy management is. The screen have same brightness under brightness setting from one to ten.(I sure I hit the apply and ok) Can someon please  tell me what shall I do ?Thank you much appreciated

Had T410s a little while now, bit concerned at how loose the screen is moving forward and back, the hinges are solidly in place - which I'd hope considering its brand new.Was just wondering if anyone else shares the same very easy to move screen, in contrast the screen on my X301 is a lot stiffer to move backwards and forwards.

Answer:T410s - How loose is your screen ?

mine's pretty stiff.  It's better that way since I have touchscreen and I wouldnt want it moving back with slight touch.

Question: Y560 Black Screen

Hi folks, I am pretty desperate and not happy with Lenovo. After 3 years of good use (no warranty obviously) my 950$ laptop (i7 1.60 GHz, 8 gig ram, 500 gig hard drive, ATI 5730 graphic card) started to show a black screen after the windows logo disapear upon booting. After 20 min, it shut down automatically and start to do the same thing again and again and again until i get enough and boot it in safe mode with networking. But I didn't buy a 950$ laptop just to go on internet with the integrated graphic card; I have the 0646 with no switch graphic card. At that point I suspected the graphic card to be linked to my black screen issur I checked on the Lenovo forum and I there are a lot of people that got the black screen like me. So I followed some of the recommendations mentioned by good samaritans. First thing I did is remove remove all dust present near the heat sink but the black screen still showed up. Then, I try to change the graphic card driver by a chinese driver mentioned to be the issue for some black screen issue but again, no success. Then, I try to place a penny between the graphic card and the heat sink; not successful. I removed the penny a change the old paste by some articsilver 5; no success. I then set the minimum processing speed at 5% playing with active and passive cooling but no success. At that point I was pretty tired so I did a factory revovery using the onekey option; black screen again. Unfortunatly, I cannot install windows on safe mode so I ... Read more

Answer:Y560 Black Screen

hi gnorin,

Welcome to the Forums.

Just to verify, when you boot into the BIOS > Configuration Tab, don't you have a switchable graphics opton?
 - Link to picture

When you re-installed the sysetm via the OneKey Recovery, did Windows downloaded some updates, rebooted the PC and gave you the black screen?
  - if this is the case, try to temporarily turn off WIndows Updates after OneKey Recovery and observe.

Alternatively, If the issue is with the display driver not responding, see this TDR Delay Fix  (see the "Let Me Fix It Myself" guide)

Let me know your findings

When I start up, the screen is gray with a wide vertical white band on the right with some small vertical colored bands. Now and then I can sort of  see the button to log in as myself.Worked this morning, but not tonight. Does this sound like a screen or video card problem? Thanks!

I just bought a Y560, (Manufacture date of 08/09/2011) w/the i7-720Q cpu. The display is a AVO40EC, if I read the display info correctly. Any opinions on this display? During it's initial Windows startup, the screen brightness was OK. All of a sudden, as it finished up w/the initial startup, the screen went dim. On an external monitor, the brightness appears to be OK. It's just the laptop display that has the issue.  At this point in time, I haven't been able to get it back to normal. I tried the solution posted below, but w/no luck. http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-B-and-Z-series/Y560-DIsable-Auto-Adjust-Screen-Brightness/m-... Next I went and loaded the latest ATI video driver (10.8) and still no change to my dim display problem. It appears to be my only problem that I can see so far. I checked the laptop BIOS version in the BIOS, and it has the very latest version (30CN58WW) already installed. Would deleting the Lenovo Energy Management software help any? Would reloading the OS help any. I've got an SSD that I want to install, as well as a copy of Windows Ultimate x64. Is this a hardware issue that can't be resolved?Anyone? Thanks.

Answer:HELP: screen on new Y560 running dim

I had the same issue. Here is what I did to tackle this 1. I turned my setting to "High Performance" instead of energy star or Super Saver (Control Panel)2. The screen dims after 15 mins or so and you can change this setting in Control Panel. Unfortunately my Y560 is out on repair and hence I cannot give you the exact steps.

Question: y560 black screen

After starting my computer this morning, cyan/pink/yellow static lines started to appear. A few seconds later the screen went black and I can no longer get my computer running. It powers on and fan turns on, but just a black screen appears. I have tried removing the battery and holding down the power button as some have suggested but that doesn't help the issue. I believe the graphics card is broken and I would buy a new motherboard but Lenovo only seems to sell this part with a CPU installed, driving the price up to $428... At which point I would rather just buy a new laptop (not lenovo after all the trouble I have gone through with this y560). I am shocked there isn't a class action lawsuit on this.

Answer:Y560 screen brightness changes on its own

Have a look in Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Power Options > Edit Plan Settings > Change Advanced Power Settings.

In the scheme / profile you are using look at the entry under Display > Dim display after... There are separate entries for battery and plugged in which you can click on and change the values.

As far as the display dimming when you attach the power cord, you will need to edit your profiles accordingly.

So, I bought my y560 back in August and have had many of the same problems that have been addressed before. Recently, I accidently damaged my screen and have been wondering how to get it fixed. I called Lenovo about it and asked for a quote because it wouldn't fall under my warranty. The problem was that my operator would not give me an estimate and said their technicians would call me once they had made a diagnosis. I already know what the problem is... So my question was if anyone else had experienced this before and actually gotten a price from Lenovo. I could replace it myself, but was looking for the cheapest alternative. Also, I would rather not wait the two weeks plus shipping time. Thanks in advance.

Answer:damaged y560 screen

if you have any ability in you at all, you can do it yourself for $50-$100, depending on what y560 it is.
