Lenovo IdeaPad Y530 Crashed, not working, no tech support, need expert/lenovo technician advice

Question: Lenovo IdeaPad Y530 Crashed, not working, no tech support, need expert/lenovo technician advice

Hi, my name is Ben and i own a 2 year old Lenovo Y530 laptop with windows Vista Home Premium.Everything was working fine, when one day about a month and a half ago, i got the "blue screen of death".Better known as an error code, where your computer crashes.I then proceeded to re-install windows vista, where then it failed to install the updates, and only after a very short amount of time of actually being in the desktop of the computer, it crashed once more, giving the classic error message of it might be something new that was installed, or new hardware, when in reality i didn't install or add/remove any new equipment whatsoever.I bought this Laptop in the US 2 years ago in late 2008, and then moved to Israel. So here is the real problem, after checking the HDD for bugs, or viruses, it was fpormatted, and put back in, also following a system recovery from Lenovos one click recovery system. And found that neither the HDD, or the OS was trhe problem. So since i live in Israel, i sent it to my local Lenovo shop, where they said they do not fix these types of lenovo laptops! So how am i supposed to get to the bottom of this issue? if my local computer lenovo store does not fix my model of computer?I would like an answer ASAP because i need this computer for school and such, and the information that was lost is irrelevant, i would just like the computer to be functioning and stable again.Thank you, and much regards,Ben.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

To be covered by warranty, your laptop must have IWS (International Warranty Service). That's the only way to get covered. http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/UserFiles/IWS/20100909035858_62.htm Best regards.

Good Morning Community. My P400 Keyboard works on and off sometimes, mainly if I disappear sometimes and stop using the computer and I come to the computer to turn on. Every so often, maybe like once or twice every other week for about 2 or 3 months now, It just stops typing or no buttons work at all, and then I just have to restart the computer to get the keyboard to work again. At least its not hard to get it back working again.. I know this should not be a problem I should be having, I have look everywhere online for help and no luck yet. I just wanna get this fix before it just stops working all together. Anyone with solutions? I already check hardware and bios updates for my laptop, everything is updated.. So if anyone @ Lenovo or the community can help me out I would really appreciate it. Thanks

Hi all,Is there any chance to influence Lenovo about BIOS update wchich would turn on VT support (and some other BIOS settings)? Is there anyone who could pull some strings, whisper few words here and there and get it done I think all IdeaPads owners would greatly appreciate such an update (Anyone agree with me? ).

Alright, I purchased this Laptop through newegg and it was advertised with a discounted price for the Windows 8 upgrade.  So I have been struggling to install windows 8 in my limited spare time and running in to the problem where after it copies files it reboots and then just quickly tells me that my pc has encountered a problem and needs to be restarted and off it goes to a reboot and restores my Windows 7.  I tried a clean install to find that the boot volume was "OEM locked" or something like that.  So I figured it had to be the Hybrid SSD+SATA HDD thing.   So I searched and searched and searched, tried different things had to do the system recovery a few times and nothing worked.  So I called Lenovo tech support.  The first guy was nice enough, but said that I had to speak with enhanced support or something like that and that they would call in 1 to 2 hours.  Well, two days went by and they never contacted me.  So I called them today on my lunch hour, they had to call me back, but never did.  So I called again and this time the lady told me that I needed to talk to the Hardware support team because they know about the problem, but the OS upgrade problem is not covered under the warranty and I would need to pay 89.00 to get the answer.   So I said Uh no thank you, and asked if they had some online resources that I could take a look at to try to self help my problem.  She said no, there is not because "Windows 8 is... I just recently purchased my new laptop last week and tried installing some software with my CD/DVD drive.  Only to find out that the drive doesn't appear at all. The C: & D: Drive appear as well as my USB drives  but not the DVD drive.  I check my Device Manager and it states a CODE 39.  I shouldn't be having this problem with my new laptop.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance!

Try deleting drivers for your drive and rebbot. After reboot you'll get drivers installed.

A few weeks ago I saw the Lenovo K430 on NewEgg while shopping for a new Desktop. I was amazed by the K430?s features and great looks. However, after doing some research I became very baffled about the Power Turbo Switch and the many horror stories about upgrading the graphics card. I called Lenovo Technical Support to talk about possibilities and get advice about the graphics card, a woman answered the phone and informed me she had no idea or information about graphics card; but she recommended I speak to Sales. I was transferred to sales and they too informed me that they knew nothing about the computer or graphics card. I decided to call B&H Photo, the name sounds deceiving but they really are the best with support. The Technical Support told me if I really wanted a great computer I should think about building my own. So today, I embarked on the journey to build my own computer and I want to say thank you to Lenovo. If it wasn?t for Lenovo's extremely bad Tech Support and Sales I would not have built my own computer. Lenovo you are so terrible and clueless, you have inspired me, you have driven me by showing me your lack of knowledge and sense of awareness, the idea that a company has a sales and tech department that knows absolutely nothing about their own product. Thank you Lenovo, you are simply the worse PC maker on the Planet! Thanks to you; today I have the most powerful computer I could ever imagined. The only Tech Support Leno provi... Read more

Hi so one night a few weeks ago i shut my laptop after netflix and opened it the next day and none of the USB ports worked, the ethernet did not work, nor did the webcam. I sent it in since it is still under warranty, and a week later got an email charging me 489 bucks for 'water damage' well i never spilled any water on it, it just randomnly broke one night. so i called Tech supporrt today and connected to some1 from the **bleep**ing phillippines who i could hardly understand. I tried to get a number for sutherland global (who does the actual tech repairs ) in TX so i could talk to someone in america, but they dont have the number for sutherland. So after i just explained to him, 'how much to fix the mobo?' he says 340 dollars. so i told him to just send it back how it was. My questions are 1. why does lenovo's warranty literally cover nothibng? 2. is it possible to just fix the USB ports without replacing the whole Mobo? 3. could i fix it myself? 4. do any lenovo employees on here have someone i can speak to who actually speaks english and wants to help me fix my laptop?

So everything has been working fine on my laptop until about 10:30PM EST tonight. I bought it new in August 2011.
Specs:

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
CPU: Intel Core i7-2630QM @ 2.00 GHz
RAM: 8 GB
HD: 750 GB
BIOS: 45CN36WW

It's always been a fine machine with NO problems.
However, last night there were Windows 7 updates that were installed and then restarted my computer. I had not gotten a chance to check exactly what they were though. About 10:30 this evening, flash crashed in Mozilla Firefox which is not that uncommon, and from there Firefox closed, and so did my Microsoft Word and Excel apps that were open. From there, my computer began to shut down and restart. When it went to restart, all it could do was go to the opening Lenovo screen which gives you the F2 (setup option) and F12 (multiboot menu option) as it typically does. Besides a thin strip at the top that appeared after about 30 secs that only displays moving static that eventually will just stick, that is where the boot process ends. No Windows 7 screen, and certainly no opportunity to boot into safe mode to check for any problems. The screen freezes and goes nowhere.

So basically, all I'm getting in terms of boot options are lenovo features, not windows 7 features, meaning it won't boot into windows 7 or windows 7 safe mode no matter what I try. The biggest problem here is that I have no windows 7 disc to even try to boot from my dvd drive.

Anybody have any suggestions on what the probl... Read more

Answer:RAM on Lenovo ideapad Y530

It is not a newsflash that 32bit Windows can't see above 3,5 GB RAM or in rare cases even above 2,5 GB RAM. If you install 4 videocards containing 1 GB videoram each, 32bit windows in theory will not see any RAM at all.But it is unbelievable that 64bit one can't see more. So, it's not about Windows version... What else can limit RAM? BIOS and chipset. What exact model do you own? Try CPU-Z 1,47 to detect chipset. Seems like some low-end models of Y530 are based on GL40 chipset that supports officially only 2 GB of RAM.This is situation just as one with G410 Lenovo laptops - some models are based on GM965 and some are on GL960. Those with GL960 can't take more than 2 GB in theory and more than 2,5 GB in practice.

When I turned on the laptop for the second time I saw the battery had about 5 min left. So I decided to plug it into AC power. I got out the cords from the box and plugged them in. Then I plugged the power cord into the laptop. I assumed it was charging but I was wrong. I got a power message and it shut down. Now I can not turn it on because the battery is completely dead and the AC power seems to do absolutely nothing. It won't charge at all. I really need help on what to do.

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad Y530 won't run on AC power

Probably a faulty connection somewhere either on the computer or on the actual power brick. Make sure that when the cable to the wall is plugged in, the word lenovo on the power brick lights up blue. Also make sure that when the computer is plugged into the wall, the middle blue LED on the bottom right of the computer lights up. If both those things light up but it still isn't actually charging, then I think you'll have to send it in to get repaired. Otherwise a new power cable would fix it.

I've been trolling the forums for a while, and am left with a simple question regarding my specific situation. I have an IdeaPad Y530 with 160 gb hd.  According to Disk Management, I have a C: partition with 105 gigs, a D: (Lenovo) partition with 29 gigs, and an unnamed partition with 15 gigs.  Because I want as much of my HD available to me as possible, I want to erase my D: partition.  I have created recovery disks with OKR.  If I erase my D: partition, will I be able to recover my computer if it experiences a crash by using the recovery disks? Also, anyone know what this third (hidden) partition's purpose is?  Can I somehow unhide it? Thanks!

Answer:Ideapad Y530 - lenovo partition

The answer is simple. No you won't. What I would recommend is the following...... Restore to factory preinstalled state with OneKey recovery partition.Complete the initial configuration. [creating user name and password, naming computer, etc., etc.]***You can uninstall the bloatware at this pointDelete partition for drive "D".Allocate the space to drive "C"Create a backup using OneKey. [within Windows]Burn recovery disks. The reason you have to do this is because changing partition sizes destroys the possibility of recovering with OneKey partition or recovery disks created with OneKey. Hope this helps.

I'm currently using the Dell Studio 15, I first purchased this laptop on December 18th with problems right out of the box, then I got an exchange, with problems right out of the box! So I am returning my product and considering to purchase the Lenovo IdeaPad Y530. I'm new to laptops and the Dell I have is my first time buying a computer, considering I had problems right out of the box TWO times I feel that I need to be very picky about what I buy, laptop wise. I like the way it looks, I hear it's nice and sturdy, has a beautiful keyboard and touch pad. The only bad thing I heard as of yet is that the screen is way too mirror like....But my Studio 15 is mirror like when I'm in the garage with the door open and it does not bother me much at all...I'm considering HP and Lenovo, mostly Lenovo. So I was wondering if the IdeaPad Y530 is a good choice for me? What are the COMMON problems? And how much trust can I put into Lenovo and the IdeaPad Y530? If anyone can help I will be very greatfull. Thank you all for the help.

Answer:Should I purchase Lenovo's IdeaPad Y530? I don't know much about computers!

Right now I'm keying for enlarged characters and they are disappearing from this note. If you need a lot of support I find it hard to come by.   It's 64 bit and that seems to cause problems. I got mine last mon from circuit city and now they are out of business. There is a forum but that seem to be pot luck as to ever getting a response.

I recently did the same on Y530, Vista to Win 7. I have not set up veriface, or camera, but I see no verifacefor Win 7 on driver page. (Drivers, start HERE) You MAY want to create a Windows restore point, and then try the Vistaversion of the driver and veriface.?? At your risk. Then if there are problems, restore to previous point. I may try this, not sure, since I do not need camera or veriface. If I find out any more, I will update, and you do the same.

Hi All, I am writing from National Instruments Technical Support with an issue that one of our customer's is having. The customer uses Lenovo IdeaPad Y530 (model name: 20009) and was trying to use MXI-4 remote controller of PXI chassis. It is basically a PCI extension with CompactPCI form factor. Unfortunatelly the extension of PCI bus did not work, any device installed in the PXI chassis received code 12 (unable to allocate resources) in Device Manager. We know about this issue on some laptops, they just simply don't allow hooking up PCI bus on ExpressCard (correct me if I'm wrong) - see our knowledgebase. We provide a potential solution, which is MXI-Express Compatibility Software. This solution can fix some BIOS limitations, but not all of them. Unfortunatelly in case of the customer it did not help. The customer purchased IBM Leonovo Y530 just for the purpose of using it with MXI-Express Controller. National Instruments cannot resolve this issue. Is there any BIOS version or extension that could allow Windows to allocate devices on the extended PCI bus?

I have an Ideapad Y530 with Windows 7 64 bit.  I have used my webcam infrequently in gmail without problems before, but it has suddenly stopped working.  I have also used testwebcam.com to verify that the webcam is not working: no devices are displayed. I have tried pressing Fn+Esc to turn the camera on (and reinstalling the hotkey driver), although this does not have any effect. I have also tried reinstalling the webcam drivers (I don't think I had Windows 7 64 bit drivers before), but after the files are extracted, the install begins, but is immediately interrupted by an error message that says "The Lenovo EasyCamera has (sic) not found!  Please plug in the Lenovo EasyCamera and then run the installation again." It seems the machine is not recognizing the hardware.  Any suggestions?  (FWIW, the machine is just out of warranty.)

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Y530 Microsoft VISTA Home Premium PROBLEMS

As you have been having these problems from day-1, and you seem to have gone a long way to rule out a hardware problem, I would suggest recovering your system to factory state after backing up your important files. If the system does have an hardware problem this will hopefully show itself during the recovery. It may also be worth running some independant hardware tests like Drive Fitness Test and MemTest86.  I'm sure Lenovo will replace your hard drive if it proves to be faulty, but sending you one with XP on it - sorry, but this is unfortunately not possible. You have Vista Home Premium which is not entitled to a downgrade, only Business and above are entitled to this. These are Microsoft's rules and not Lenovo's and I don't see Lenovo breaking their contractual agreements with MS. If you feel you must have XP then you will need to purchase a license and install it and the drivers manually. Good luck

I bought a Lenovo Flex 3 in April when they had some sale going. Its like a slightly less impressive Yoga 3 with a bigger screen. cumbersome as a tablet, but it has the 360 degree flexibility that should be fairly future-proof when it comes to Windows 10.
It worked well for about a month and then it started blue screening. All. Of. The. Time. I am a technical person and knew some tricks to try to figure out what the issue was, but I could never figure anything out. Just that it was related to 1 or more drivers. Otherwise I wasn't sure.
I called Lenovo and explained everything that I had tried, including resetting to factory settings. They, of course, made me do it all again. That was a pain in the ****. In the end, as expected, they said I had to send it in for them to fix. I asked them if they would confirm that it was fixed before sending it back because I have had several instances of tech support sending me back broken hardware (my ps3 was send back broken twice...). They said it would be thoroughly tested.
So I sent it out. It took about 2 weeks to get back to me. I open the laptop, turn it on, set up my account, and about 20 minutes later it blue screens. I figured maybe it was just a fluke, so I didn't do anything about it. 2 days later im in blue screen hell. Cant have the thing open for 30 minutes without it restarting. I called Lenovo and they said they were undergoing maintenance so i need to call them tomorrow at 3 PM.
So yeah, now ill go another 2 weeks without t... Read more

From a rating of 1 to 10 . 10 being excellent and 1 poor. Have to give it a number 1. Standard answers they give we dont support software issues even if its rescue and recovery. As far as hardware they dont know the type of hard drive you have. You have to call sales who gives you a part number. Questions on entering the bios is not explained etc. The only thing they give you is a case number.

Last night I called and spoke with Lenovo tech support because of an inoperative webcam in my newly purchased Ideapad S10. When I restored the original factory image and the camera still didn't work it was time to call them for a confirmation that the camera had failed. All in all, I was fairly impressed with the level of technical support I received. The tech didn't force me into trying too many obvious checks, other than the basic Fn-ESC to toggle the camera off and on. Then he dialed into the S10 and did a few checks himself before confirming my thought that the webcam had died. I didn't have a long wait to speak to someone. He spoke english quite well with an accent so I'm almost guessing their support might be based in the USA. Since this unit was slightly over a week old, he gave me a ticket number and suggested that I call sales to get a replacement, rather than sending it in for repair. This morning I called sales and was surprised how efficiently they handled the issue of getting a replacement. They emailed the RMA and tags for UPS to ship the defective unit back at their expense. On top of that, since they now have a 10-percent sale on the S10 on their website (call to get the discount), they arranged to credit me the difference on the other S10 (...Purchased two on that order) and sold me the replacement at the sale price. I didn't realize they had a price-protection policy ...great for those of us unlucky enough to order a week before it goes on sal... Read more

I have been dealing with Lenovo Tech Support for months now and it has been absolutley horrible the entire time. I have never had as poor of an experience with any company ever as I have with Lenovo. My laptop had a factory issue with it that led to it not turning on at all. I sent it in to be repaired in August and no progress has been made since then. I called over two weeks ago to inquire about getting a replacement laptop sent in lieu of waiting a ridicuolous amount of time. I was lucky enough to be assigned the wonderful Michael Summey as my case manager and a quick Google search reveals that my experience that I had with him was similar to that of many others. Michael failed to do ANYTHING whatsoever. I received an email asking what laptop I'd like to receive and where I'd like it to be sent. I replied and waited 3 business days as instructed. Nothing followed. There was no confimation, no laptop was sent. Michael failed to accomplish a single thing. So I called again 10 days after the original to see about finally sending a laptop, I was then promised "a new case manager will call you TOMORROW". As anyone who has dealt with Lenovo would expect, I received no call. I called today to try and remedy this and guess what? Nothing changed. Both myself and the customer service rep spent over an hour trying to contact Mr. Summey and we received no answer. I also left a voicemail and email and received no response. The level of unprofessionalism with this entire ordeal is absol... Read more

Thanks for your reply, I will edit my post accordingly [regarding the fee]. It wasn't meant to be a fee, just a small donation for my efforts seeing as how I posted the full instructions and didn't leave anything out. I edited this post to mark my tutorial [now the third post] as the solution, which will now be in green. Unfortunately, the first post is only meant to be for asking your question/requesting help and thus cannot be marked as the acceptable solution. By the way, I am pretty sure you can recreate the OneKey Recovery partition with a Windows XP image and/or with your favorite Linux distribution. For linx, you may need to remove hard drive [**not sure if this voids your warranty but be careful**] and create the image with a spare hard drive running either XP or Vista because you need OKR 6.0 installed in order to create the backup image you will be replacing in the OneKey partition. If you found that this is a solution for your situation, please come back and leave a thanks. I would like to see how many people benefitted from this tutorial.Message Edited by ortegaluis on 10-27-2008 08:32 AMMessage Edited by ortegaluis on 10-27-2008 08:38 AM

Answer:OneKey 6.0 and Lenovo IdeaPad Y430/Y530/Y730 Crazy Partitioning Scheme *****SOLUTION*****

Hi.Thanks for your solution - it'll be helpfull for all of us.Old Thinkpads had 0x12 partition being actually FAT32 partition - traditions are strong...I'll try to check if your solution works on Y510/Y710 and other *10 series laptops. I doubt that asking fee for this is a righ decision. If you look at this forum you'll notice that nobody is asking fee for their solution, insensitive to their effectiveness. Anyway, it's up to you. Wait for moderators to say a word - I'm not so familiar with forum rules, maybe it is allowed... =) Thanks for soltion anyway - I made this theme sticky.

I just bought a B540P all in one which has HDMI in/out connections. However there is no description in user manual on how to use it. I was hoping to connect an old desktop computer to the HDMI in, and use the all in one as an LCD monitor for my old desktop. Is this doable? How? I assume with the HDMI in, I can connect it with any HDMI sources, such as a DVD player or a game machine. Can anyone help me? I called Lenovo tech support line, and got no help from them. Basically they have no idea, and told me this is the first time they heard of this question.

Answer:How to use B540P HDMI in? Lenovo tech support was not helpful

hi puffercow,

Thanks for posting and welcome to the community.

I really sorry to hear that our supprt team has not been as helpful as we do expect better from our support centres. I'll see what I can do to address this situation to ensure the the support teams are equipped for the future.

However regards to your issues the B540 is equipped to have the HDMI to either use it as and internal or external source. What you need to to do is ensure that your desktop is connected with the HDMI cable and connect it to the HDMI-IN input on the back of the B540P. Powerup the the B540P as well as your Desktop. Once the B540P is loaded, you will then need to switch the display. (See illustration below)

If you not notice on the B540p, on the left there is a symbol with arrows circling each other. (Described in red cicle above). press that to flip the view from the B540p desktop and your connected to HDMI desktop.

hope this helps and please do post your results.

regards

i couldn't boot to Windows. X230T had reported some kind of corruption. from the recovery partition, nothing had worked. via DOS i could see my files were intact. tech support told me there was absolutely no way to erase the drive without an optical drive, and to go ahead and restore from the recovery screen. it took a very long time, but he kept reassuring me my data was fine. now everything's gone and i'm stunned. why in the world aren't they trained better.

Hi,My machines is a T61p 6459-CTO under warranty.Because recently choose to use Autodesk Inventor 2011, I decided to upgrade my memory from 3GB(stock option) to 4GB (bought one Kingston ValueRAM 2GB 667MHz PC2-5300 DDR2 Notebook Memory (KVR667D2SO/2GR) from Amazon.com).After the upgrade, the system will stop to responding after I playing games like Need for Speed Shift or Starcraft II for awhile. I looked up the issue online and found out:Document ID: MIGR-69684(http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-69684), it says:  SymptomSome ThinkPad T61, T61p, or R61 systems with Nvidia Quadro NVS 140M (NVIDIA NB8M-GS) or Quadro FX 570M (NVIDIA NB8P-GL) graphics and two memory DIMMs installed may intermittently report that the video adapter "has stopped responding, but has recovered", typically when doing graphics intensive processing such as a video benchmark or video game.Affected configurationsThe following systems running Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Vista may be affected:Thinkpad T61, T61p (type 1959, 6377, 6457, 6458, 6459, 6460, 6461, 6462, 6470, 6481, 7662, 7663, 7664, 7665, 8889, 8890, 8891, 8892, 8893, 8894, 8939)ThinkPad R61 (7742, 7743, 7744, 7751, 7753, 7754, 7755)SolutionContact the help center and reference tip MIGR-72482 to get your planar replaced.I contacted Lenovo Tech Support immediately.  However, after gave them the description of the problem and the "reference tip MIGR-72482", the guy from Leno... Answer:Lenovo Tech Support for T61p graphics problem is outrageous

As the document states; two memory DIMMs installed may intermittently report that the video adapter, and as you have previously had two DIMMs in your system, without having a problem, and the problem started after you inserted the new RAM, it's very probable that you have an incompatabilty issue between the RAM modules. Kingston actually recommend KTL-TP667/2G for your system and not that which you purchased. It would have passed the memtest because it's not faulty, but memtest doesn't test for compatability.

Does the same happen with the original 3GB originally installed back in the system? What's about when only the 2GB original Lenovo RAM or only the 2GB Kingston which you purchased?

You can put third party memory in your system, but should you send your system in for service and third party RAM was the cause of your problems you can expect to receive an invoice. I suggest you try ruling out any compatability problem with the new RAM before you send it in.

I tried to order a DVD/ODD bezel as well as the rails w. screws which secure it when loaded into the bay. The tech support person with whom I spoke was rude and condescending beyond belief and just repeated the script "I hope your experience with Lenovo tech support exceeded your expectations; have a nice day" and hung up on me. If anyone has ordered these parts and can comfirm the FRU numbers, please post them here. If anyone from Lenovo lurks on these forums and does anything to actually help users rather than just deleting critical posts, the case number in question is A062FC7. I'd rather take helpful and polite in Manila than rude and nasty in Atlanta anyday.

After going through 3 calls with tech support on the phone due to a Bluetooth problem I was experiencing - http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/Bluetooth-Blues/m-p/176713#M17889 - and tech support concluding that I would have to send in my T500 for them to fix, I did just that.

I get the computer back today and there's nothing that's been done to the computer. Rather, they dropped in this lame note within the box:

Link to picture

So you've identified the problem but didn't do anything about it??!!! I specifically requested that they not mess with the hard drive as it is a brand new SSD - who knows what the tech will do (such as defragging). This should have nothing to do with them installing a driver for the Bluetooth module that actually works!

I'm gonna have to file a complaint within government channels at this rate.

More information can be found at the original post by S1148625 over at Thinkpads. http://forums.thinkpads.com/~thinkpad/forum/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=95573&start=0 UEFI doesn't support fingerprint readers - yet. (I suppose this is true for all 2011 Thinkpads) I have a T420, replaced the original HDD with an SSD, tried to clone from the HDD to SSD but it didn't work. So I changed BIOS to UEFI only and tried to install windows from the Recovery discs. UEFI refused to see the recovery discs. (Lenovo also confirmed that the recovery discs don't work with UEFI). Finally, I installed Windows Professional 64 bit - a clean install. Installed SP1, Thinkvantage System Update, and installed nearly all of Lenovo's updates. Joined the domain and everything worked just fine. All except the fingerprint reader, which gave three errors, each with the error code E7210005. I spoke with Lenovo Tech Support today. They confirmed that the current version of UEFI does not support the fingerprint reader. They are working on a fix, but have no release date. Other than that, my T420 works perfectly. I've spent nearly all of 2 work days trying to make this fingerprint reader work. Knowing that it's beyond my control is actually a relief. During the 50+ restarts in the past 2 days, the T420 always booted in less than 30 seconds. That's including the time it takes to pound out a 12+ character password, arrive at the desktop and have a ready mouse pointer (not a mouse pointer with a sp... Read more

Answer:Fingerprint reader is not compatible with UEFI - Lenovo Tech Support confirms

Wow, you are really on the cutting edge with UEFI!  Even though the BIOS option exists for UEFI boot, there are still several kinks that need to be worked out, and fingerprint support is just one of them.  We are actively working on these things, and UEFI preloads and recovery disks should be coming later this year. If you come across other UEFI-specific issues, please let us know here in the forums!

Just upgraded to the BTHomeHub from their Voyager 205 (which worked fine), tha advantages are two ethernet ports and wireless connectivity. I used to connect my printer and laptop via a netgear witch and into the voyager. It doesn't want to work on the home hub, although direct connection to the home hub and th elaptop is ok. I just called the 'BT Broadband tech support team'. "Yes, Sir. I am happy to assist you in connecting your laptop to BTHHub". 'No, I don't yet have wireless on the laptop, so I need to use the cable connection via the switch'. "Yes, Sir. I am very happy to help you connect your laptop wirelessly the the new BHHH and get you online straight away". 'No, I don't.....' etc etc. Evenutally...."Yes, Sir. There must be a compatibility issue with your switch. Is it compatible with the BTHH?" 'Well, that's why I'm calling you - the switch works ok with the old voyager'. "Yes, Sir. I would be very happy to assist you in connecting your laptop wirelessly to the new BTHH and get you online straight away" AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH. Quick, someone get me a bandage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Answer:BT Home Hub expert tech support

and they're taught not to deviate from them. There are all kinds of reasons, but the main one is the danger of someone giving advice which results in a data loss.My own view is that we're often able to resolve problems here, in the forum, faster/better than a lot of dedicated call centres. And you save the cost of the phone call.

I just recently purchased an IdeaPad y550. the Loud beep problem has been bugging me to no end. I had called tech suport about something else and asked the rep about the AC adapter issue. They just came up with the steps to solve it thought it's not listed on the site. here it is (you will have to repeat for each of the power profiles you are using) - go to Control Panel > Classic view > Power profiles > Change Plan Settings - click on Advanced power settings - Expand menu item "Battery" > change Low Battery Notification for both items to "Off" Repeat for each power profile you use. The other solutions posted online would only work if I muted all sounds from the laptop  **** update, i installed a fresh vista without the bloatware and just the lenovo drivers needed, the sound settings dont work in turning off the beep. it's only ifh te spekaers are muted there's no beep.  Im pretty annoyed with it at this point ****** 2nd update:New Update: this seems to be working right now. I am not getting the a/c beep AND i didn't have to mute the system to get it to work. I went to the Control Panel >  Sounds > Speakers > Properties > and in the tab for Enhancements i clicked on "Disable all Effects". this seems to be working. i'll keep you all posted. This worked for me and for one other person (see end of the thread)Message Edited by LenovoY550 on 06-09-2009 01:16 PM

LSC keeps giving me an alert that my Norton Antivirus is not active.I click the activate and nothing happenes. My Norton INternet Security Suite is active and working. How do I fix this?

Answer:Lenovo Support Center Ideapad 590

hi frankfallon,

Welcome to Community.

Your problem might be similar to this thread (although this is a different product, same aspects apply).

It's possible that the Lenovo Solutions Center (LSC) is not detecting your Nortorn Internet Security as an antivirus but as a Firewall (compared to Norton Antivirus). You can try to update to the latest LSC but if this doesn't fix it, you can just ignore the message from LSC about the antivirus not being active as the security software is already active.

I was logged on to the Tech Support Guy Forum and was viewing a posting in windows 2000/XP and all of a sudden I got blown off and some kind of program was getting installed on my computer. Program named "Virtual Bouncer" which I never heard of nor did I ask for. A window popped up and said it was a 30 day trial and I had to send $29.95 to activate it. Needless to say I did file search and deleted all files related to Virtual Bouncer except 1, A file named INSTALL.LOG which it stated file cannot be deleted access denied. Now when I search for this file it does not show up anywhere. I ran Ad-Aware and nothing showed up there either. Anybody familiar with this? Greg & Grimm

Hello all, I purchased a Lenovo Ideapad Y700-17ISK part # 80Q00011US, and according to case manager assigned to my case, 100 days ago. The notebook was mis-represented by a sales rep, and when I got the machine and it didn't have the second hard drive bay in rear of machine, which I was told the 80Q00011US had. The machine also had a mild display issue, but rather than report it and spend 2+ weeks without a machine, I ignore the issue. It didn't affect daily usage anyways. So 10 days ago, the machine dies during a reboot. Seems the MB fried. I have been fighting and waiting (mostly waiting) for over a week for a case manager (Crystal) to contact me, which finally happen @ 7:30 AM PST yesterday. The case manager was not customer friendly, refused the replacement or refund options I requested, stated they would ONLY repair the system. Her cause for "rejecting" those options was because I didn't report the display issue in the first 30 days (I have enough exp. (35 Yrs.) in computers to know a bad spot in display is NOT going to fried a MB). Conservation got heated. I refuse the repair option because I know what they will do is replace MB & Display, and return other parts back to the machine (parts that very well could have been damaged when MB died, leaving me with a US$1,300 refurbished machine). I then requested to speak with her supervisor since I was tired of being BS-ed, only for her to claim there was no-one higher to speak to, and her actually hang... Read more

In their ARK description, Intel admits that they support `vt-d` virtualization technology on i7-6700HQ Processor. But nowhere in Bios (version E5CN56WW), it has mentioned on how to enable it. The only related configuration seems to be named Virtualization which is enabled, but I can't confirm it by enabling IOMMU on my Linux kernel (nothing appears in `/sys/kernel/iommu_groups/` folder). So I wanted to know if it supports this virtualization technology and if yes, how I can enable it? Thank you

Welcome to the Community Forums.

The Flex 5-1470 (Type 81C9) Laptop / part number 81C9000CUS must be a M.2 NVMe SSD.

Storage specification:
Some: HDD / SATA 6.0Gb/s, 2.5" wide, 7mm highSome: M.2 SSD / PCIe 3.0 x 4

OEM recommended M.2 SSD listed here PCIe-NVMe for model 81C9.

Hello, I only found out after purchasing the Y510P laptop that it for some strange reason does not support 5Ghz networks, only 2.4Ghz. This results in me having insanely slow connection every single night around peak hours (7-11pm), and I'm unable to do anything like watching movies, playing games or download stuff. Does anyone know exactly how to upgrade the wireless card on this laptop so it supports 5Ghz networks? Do I have to go out and buy another wireless card, or is it software upgrades like drivers only? I'm not a computer major so a walkthrough would be appreciated. Thanks.

Drag that left or right to decrease or increase the brightness of the screen. -- from CyberSimian in the UK

I?ve got my Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13 in Russia with Windows 8 Single Language Edition on it.I?ve set up three keyboard layouts, those are German, Russian and English. Both the on-screen keyboard and handwriting recognition work for English and Russian. However, with German I don?t have the handwriting recognition as an option. How could I activate it or install it? Should I buy Windows 8 Pro Pack for it or does this restriction have to do with something else?If it?s all about the Windows SL license I would rather prefer to have the recognition of German handwriting instead of English.

Answer:Language support for the recognition of handwriting on Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13

Hi eugrus,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

You may need to add a German language pack and then you will see the Language settings to personalize handwriting recognition. Language packs are available for computers that are running Windows 8. The language packs are installed from the language control panel on the Yoga 13. Follow the steps in the link below:

How to install the Language pack.

Note: If you are facing issues with Windows SL license to download the Language pack in Windows 8, you may need to get Windows 8 Pro, you may also follow the steps to choose your required language in the ?Handwriting Option?:

Please hold the (Windows key + C) to go to the Charms bar.
On the Charms bar please click on Search.
Please select Settings under Search option and type ?Language?.
Now please click on ?Language? and click on ?Input method and Handwriting"
You can add your required language now.
You can personalize the Handwriting option by clicking on ?Personalize hand writing recognition?.

Hope this Helps.

Do post us back if the issue still persists.

Best Regards

New low in customer service. Had a Lenovo tech here to do a warranty replacement of the display on my laptop and he left it in much worse shape than he found it and gave us a scare as an added bonus. He was yelling and clearly kicking things around out of frustration several times while he was here and then just left. I had debated asking him to leave but was honestly afraid to engage him, but having him just leave was really odd. Called the cops to be sure it was documented and to see if there was anything else we should do. And while that was all odd enough, then I called Lenovo to see what they would do to sort this out and all they can do is escalate me for a call from a supervisor in 2-3 business days.  Got an email yesterday saying they would get back to me in one business day and then tonight got this gem from escalated support: Subject: 02554745 [ ref:_00D30V2Wu._5001412BHaF:ref ] Hello Mr FreemanThis is regarding your Lenovo computer and the recent onsite service for your unit. I certainly apologize if the onsite technician did not repair your computer to your satisfaction. It is Lenovo's policy to ensure complete customer satisfaction and professional service to our customers. Please advise if your machine is still inoperable.Thank youRosemaryLenovo Case Managerref:_00D30V2Wu._5001412BHaF:ref***They seem to be missing the fact that the tech broke the machine and was so creepy we called the cops.

I also bought a Lenovo Ideapad N580 and unfortunatelly I spilled Water on th=e keyboard. I bought this in the US but I live in El Salvador. The repair shop tells me that the computer starts but does not give a video s=ignal. The repair shop Electronic Valdes recommends me to change the whole m=otherboard.Do you have advice?Do you know how much it costs im the US as I could bring it through a courie=r?Thank you so much!Miguel

Answer:seeking advice on a water damage Lenovo Ideapad N580

hi Miguel,

The water that got spilled on the laptop must have found its way inside and must have short some integrated circuit, thus giving the no video signal issue. If other parts of the unit are still operational (i.e. CPU, RAM, HDD, etc.), changing the motherboard most of the time fixes these issues.

As for the price, the motherboard part is similar to this item for models with HDMI out. I wouldn't recommend shipping the unit to the US as it might get delayed due to legal means (customs, etc.), not to mention the fees.

If a replacement motherboard is a good investment rather than a new computer, it will be best if you get it repaired there in El Salvador.

Regards

Hi,I had artifacts shown on my laptop B480 Model 20140 when i tested Aliens vs Predator D3D11 Benchmark while other laptop with the same model and type (or any other laptop with geforce 610M) doesn't show artifact using the same clock, while i need to downclock the video memory clock from its normal clock (900mhz) to 800mhz in order for the artficat to disappear. A Fresh windows/driver/program install doesn't fix it, so it's clearly hardware defect. It's been a week since my laptop is held at lenovo service center which is located at Jl Pluit Timur Blok L Barat No. 25, JakartaBut, the when i called the technician he said that the laptop have no problem *sigh* this technician seems to be lack of experience to tell whether a video adapter is defective or not, even when he saw artifact while testing AvP Benchmark (aliens vs predator dx11) on my laptop. So, is there anyone here who can helped me to gets my laptop fixed so i don't gets artifact like any other B480 Model 20140 laptops? (or atleast helped me tells the technician how to differentiate a defective video adapter and a normal one) My SerialNumber is WBxxxxx391 Thanks in advance  Best regards,AdamN  Moderator comment: Serial number(s) removed to protect member from mischief.

Answer:Help! Inexperienced Lenovo Technician?

It's been 2 weeks and i haven't heard any news about my laptop i've been trying to call the service center in the last 3 days but nobody is picking up the phone, they don't have email and live chat and i can't reach them by phone either. I just want to know how much longer i need to wait for my geforce to be fixed? is it another Week? a Month? or may be a Year??Because the technician never give me an estimated time required to fix it, probably because last week he said nothing wrong with it *facepalm* If he still think that nothing wrong with it and can't fixed it, it might be better for me to take that defective laptop back instead of idling at lenovo SC w/o getting fixed, and i should stop expecting any good service from lenovo SC, because i need that laptop for my job as programmer. This is my first time buying a brand new lenovo product and ended up getting a defective hardware(1 stuck pixel and corrupted geforce video memory) and this kind of service *sigh* certainly not a good experience. May be i should create a thread at official geforce forums asking about this situation and whether that lenovo techincian is correct or not, may be there will be GPU expert there who might be able to figured out whether there are any other possibilities than hardware defect in this case -.-

I am using a Lenovo Ideapad yoga 13 ultra book laptop. The laptop costs around 1 lac INR. I had absolutely no issues with laptop.  It was working fine, till in the month of Feb 2015, the touch screen of the laptop got damaged accidently.  I have followed up with at least a dozen Lenovo authorized service centers and all of them have put me down with saying we are not able to resolve the issue.  It?s now six months since I have been using the laptop with the cracked touch screen. I had directly interacted with Lenovo, but all in vain. It is saddening to experience that in spite of buying a high end laptop, the service and support provided by Lenovo is far below acceptable. Henceforth, I won?t be recommending any Dell products to anyone. Very Very Very cold response?????..

Hello communtiy members, At my place the U160 is currently on sale. The shop offers two versions. One with the Pentium U5400, and one with the Core i5-520UM. The latter one cost 50 Euro more. Now I wonder if the U5400 is sufficient. I do only basic stuff (MS Word, Internet, listening music, occasionally watching a movie). The thing I care about is if it feels smooth. I don't want to see an hour glass when I open Windows Explorer. And I don't want to wait forever to open an average Word document or surf an average website. Is the U5400 ok for a smooth desktop experience? Why do I ask? Because my budget is tight. But if the i5 would really be needed for a smooth desktop experience, I'd spend the additional 50 bucks. Thank you in advance

Hello, On Windows 10. Just bought this laptop couple weeks ago. Decided to try and skype for the first time. Camera didnt turn on. Camera doesnt show up in the Lenovo Settings App. In Device Manager, Easy Camera was actually hidden. Had to unhide it from the View menu. Message in the device is: Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45)To fix this problem, reconnect this hardware device to the computer. I have searched the forums and saw the post where simply activating using the F8 hotkey works for someone. It does NOT work for me. Any advice?? Thanks
