Preferred Solution: IdeaPad Y650, no microphone support, no camera support in windows 7

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have just bought this HP Envy x360 2 in 1 convertible laptop from PCWorld in the UK expecting it to support Windows Hello. However, after going into 'Set up face sign in' in settings, it says that Windows Hello isnt available on this device The hardware is clearly there above the screen showing what looks like two cameras and an infra red transmitter each side (2 in total). I popped back today and checked out the demo machine in store and it worked, I set myself up to login and it worked. I considered that my build config required a windows update which I have now downloaded and installed but it still does not work. The KnowHow guy said that I needed to download the Intel RealSense Depth Camera Manager which I tried but clearly the machine does not have Intel hardware as all 3 Intel software versions did not recognise the hardware being present. I have checked the hardware config but it does not list any camera hardware, yet the Skype and Camera apps both use it!There is an imaging device called HP TrueVision HD but I have not found any drivers for that either. Can anyone shed some light on the hardware that I do have installed in this machine and what software drivers I need. Note: I am now running Windows 10 Home, version 1607 OS Build 14393.82 Thank you.

Hello, could someone from Lenovo give info about u310 support for Windows 8.1? I want to upgrade my Windows 8 installation to 8.1, but I can't seem to find any information or updated drivers. Why is the support for newer OS versions is coming so slow?

Solved!

Answer:Ideapad u310 Windows 8.1 support

probably because 8.1 hasn't reached the general release stage; it's currently RTM to enable manufacturers to develop drivers / utilities.  After the general release in October drivers & utilities will probably start becoming available.

Alright, I purchased this Laptop through newegg and it was advertised with a discounted price for the Windows 8 upgrade.  So I have been struggling to install windows 8 in my limited spare time and running in to the problem where after it copies files it reboots and then just quickly tells me that my pc has encountered a problem and needs to be restarted and off it goes to a reboot and restores my Windows 7.  I tried a clean install to find that the boot volume was "OEM locked" or something like that.  So I figured it had to be the Hybrid SSD+SATA HDD thing.   So I searched and searched and searched, tried different things had to do the system recovery a few times and nothing worked.  So I called Lenovo tech support.  The first guy was nice enough, but said that I had to speak with enhanced support or something like that and that they would call in 1 to 2 hours.  Well, two days went by and they never contacted me.  So I called them today on my lunch hour, they had to call me back, but never did.  So I called again and this time the lady told me that I needed to talk to the Hardware support team because they know about the problem, but the OS upgrade problem is not covered under the warranty and I would need to pay 89.00 to get the answer.   So I said Uh no thank you, and asked if they had some online resources that I could take a look at to try to self help my problem.  She said no, there is not because "Windows 8 is... Alright, my issue is that about a month or so ago my laptop was erased of everything (on accident) and I ended up installing Windows 7 on it. I went to the Lenovo site and downloaded drivers for the audio. But when I set my default program for sound to Realtek I can't hear anything and I also can't use my volume controls on the right hand side of the keyboard. I can hear the sound just fine when it's set to default speakers. I don't understand where I went wrong or what. If you know of anything I can try please let me know, it's a bit annoying. :/ Please and thanks. (:

Sorry, 2 problems here.1) I have an old microphone i found in the attic, used to have software i believe, but i cant find it. Anyway, i connected it in the appropriate slot at the back of my pc and then restarted to see if the effects had been made. But with no success, no programs could pick up speech through the mic (i even tried connecting the mic through all appropriate jacks at the back). So, could anyone proprose a solution to make this work?2) Im a software developer running Visual Basic 6, ive got a second hand Mouse Wheel here (which came with no software or anything). Anyway from the IDE of VIsual Basic apparently you can get new driver files for the mouse to make the Scrollbars within the Visual Basic IDE react to the Mouse's wheel. (The IDE is basically take MS Word for example, code/text trough the middle with Scrollbars).Would appreciate any info regarding to either problem.CHeers

So I purchased the Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 about ten months ago. About three months later, the camera ceased to work. It was very sudden - I was using Skype the night before, and then when I woke up, I was not able to use any program that involved the camera. Skype, YouCam, Camera, etc. all did not work. All of those applications returned an error that there was no camera installed. I hadn't installed any new drivers, software, or anything. The Devices Manager showed (and still shows) that there are no cameras on my computer, which is ridiculous, considering that the camera is mounted inside the screen.  At this point, I tried to resolve the problem by reinstalling all of my drivers. Nothing changed, so I cut my loss and moved on.  However, about two months after that, the microphone stopped working as well. It was equally sudden - I use my microphone for dicatation and basic audio recording, and it too stopped working. However, it DOES appear as a device. It produces pure white noise and nothing else, and only works in the Configuration tab of the Recording Devices control panel.  Since then, I tried reinstalling everything, which didn't help. I tried opening the back and squishing the black cable back down, which also didn't help. To answer a few questions: 1. Yes, I have tried pressing Fn+Esc. On Windows 8.1, this does nothing. Energy management is correctly installed. 2. Yes, I have installed the most recent drivers. 3. Yes, I... Read more

Hello all, I have recently bought a new Ideapad U330 Touch with windows 8 and a 64-bit system. When I moved abroad a couple weeks ago I started using Skype much more frequently to talk to family and friends. However, last weekend suddenly the camera and microphone stopped working properly, and eventually turned off completely. I tried reinstalling the drivers but this didn't help. After a couple tries I turned to the ultimate software solution fixer: yesterday night I rebooted the computer to factory settings in hopes this would solve my problems and help me communicate with my family again. Unfortunately, this is not the case. My camera app still tells me to 'to get started, connect a camera' and when trying to record sound I hear nothing. If I go into device manager no imaging device is detected, in stead under 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers' there is listed an 'Unkown USB Device (Device descriptor request failed)' which relates to a code 43 error. Since I am now out of options I can think of myself I turn to you. Please help me fix this. Regards,Sybren Bruin

Hello forums I was hoping I could get some help.

I am overall very happy with the computer except for one thing.

I use Truecrypt system encryption on my computer and not having the ability to utilize the AES-NI instruction set is becoming a bit of a nuisance. I know my CPU (Intel Core i5-3210M) supports AES-NI but it seems as if the microcode to enable support in the BIOS is disabled.
support for AES-NI is verified HERE on Intel's website.

Currently I am running Windows 7 Pro x64 with the BIOS set to legacy mode.
Would running the BIOS in legacy mode disable this feature?

I am a computer technician and am in school for network engineering, so big words are ok.

Any help would be appreciated.

There has to be someone who has either found a fix for this or wants is as a feature.Speaking of which, if this is a missing feature what would be the proper channels to go through to inform Lenovo that it should be implemented in the next BIOS update.

I have an Ideapad Y510 which I use as a home computer; we all use Thinkpads at work.  At 10 months of age, the Hard Disk suffered a irreparable fault  (May 30, 2009), and at the suggestion of Lenovo Technical Support, it was sent in, the Hard Disk was replaced and re-imaged, and the computer appeared to function without fault. From that point on, the Hard Disk failed twice more, and at the recommendation of Lenovo technical support was sent in (Oct 31 and Dec 22, 2009) to have the Hard Disk replaced and re-imaged.  Lenovo technical support was not able to find anything else wrong.   However, on February 15, 2010, the Hard Disk failed again.  (That's 4 failed hard drives and 3 replacements?!).  Lenovo Technical Support wants me tp again send the computer in to have the Hard Disk examined/replaced.  But at this point I pose the question, is this not the time for us to investigate other options?  At my request, Lenovo Tech Support has stated that they will transfer my case to 'customer relations', but I have not received any correspondence to date regarding such an escalation.  Despite repeated phone calls. Anyone else have such a problem with customer support?  It seems the only way I can contact 'customer relations' is through 'tech support', as there is no contact information available on-line or otherwise.  Since 'tech support' has failed repeatedly to refer my case, I'm stuck in purgatory.  Seems lik... Answer:Ideapad with no customer support?!

I went through the same thing that you did. Trying to file a dispute is worthless with Lenovo customer service, they never let you know if it was ever actually filed or bother calling you when they decide the outcome (which is usually to deny it) Your best bet would be to message mark here  under "contact" on the right it should have a link to message him. Give him your info and your problem, that worked for me and he filed a complaint on my behalf to get my issue resolved. It's a shame that the phone support is so crappy and there is no phone number to contact customer service with issues regarding disputes.

Answer:Support for my Canon SD550 digital camera

Welcome to Seven Forums I as well couldn't find Windows Seven 64 bit specific drivers. But under Whit's in the box, it shows a CD If their are Any drivers on it hopefully Xp pro 64 bit Vista 64 bit you can try installing them in compatibility mode. Simply download the driver to your desktop>right click on the setup.exe file>properties?compatibility.check the box Vista or XP>drop down menu select either of the 2 and run as administrator. Usually Windows will automatically install the needed drivers once you have plugged in the device and turned it on. Please post back and we'll go from here. Thanks. Hi everyone, My repair saga continues -my laptop screen turned on when I shut the machine down - sent it in and they replaced the display which didn't fix the problem so it went back and I've just received my repaired laptop - and I have a few questions: 1) If they replace what they call the 'mainboard' would that result in me losing all my data?  Or is the hard drive separate and the data would/could get retained? 2) Following that question is whether it is possible to replace the battery separately from the rest of the systemboard? (Is the systemboard and mainboard the same thing??) 3) Has anyone else ever received their system returned with it running slow and additional software installed? 4) If a technical supervisor promises that your warranty will be extended by 90 days has anyone had them renege on the promise?  How quickly would you expect it to show up online? Thanks in advance!

Answer:IDEAPAD U410 Technical Support - Did they really fix it?

HiWelcome to the forum!!!1) After mainboard replacement, the hardware wont(in most cases) be formatted without the discretion of the user.2) System and mainboard are same, AFAIK, the battery is replacable. You will need to ask the service centre to do so, since your model(U410) has a inbuilt battery which should be replaced by the manufacturer only since it voids warranty 3) Yes, the laptop will start to work slowly. This is because of the hardware change. Reformat is advisable.4) Following every mainboard replacement, the warranty is renewed for 3 months which is applicable on mainboard only and no other parts. Just keep your service bill, complaint number ready if you need to use it.I have answered following my experience in getting my y560's mainboard replaced.Hope this helps!!Regards

Hi Lenovo,my name is Arthur. Some months ago I let my computer drop. The left top edge of it hit the ground. I continued to use normally but I never had further problems. But two weeks from now, the touch screen would start feeling some pressure and moving the cursor. And now the screen is coming out of the laptop support. (I dont know if it is attached by a pin or  if it is glued, but the touch screen is coming out. And just to close or open more it is almost impossible. Something is out of place and the PC edges doesnt match when I try to close them. But the screen is not broken, and the PC inside (HD, memory, processor, etc) are perfect. What is the price to fix it? How do I send for you guys? Please help me, I really need my computer working properly. Thanks.  OBs: the model is ideapad u310 touch screen, and I bought it August 2013.

Hello. I am looking at buying a U160 but I would be taking it to Australia. Does anyone have any idea what the support situation would be like? The International Warranty Service seems to suggest I'm out of luck but since they support the U110 down under it gave me hope that perhaps it's just a matter of time before it's updated.. I have a T500 for work and haven't had a single issue with it, but I have been stung without local support before with my Vaio SZ330P.. (that being said my Samsung NC10 was a UK import and is 18 months old and has not required any service support).Appreciate any comments/advice.Thank you

Answer:IdeaPad U160 Support In Australia

I just spoke to warranty support and they told me that it wasn't even supported in the US (because, they use the same guide I linked to above). Now I know that the guide is not very accurate because it's selling in the US but apparently doesn't have warranty support

On the specs listed for the Ideapad Z585's CPU (A10-4600M), it is stated that the CPU can reach 3.2ghz with the AMD Turbo feature. Which, from my understanding, boosts 1 or 2 cores to that speed while disabling or slowing down the others that are not being used. On the Ideapad's spec page, however, this is not stated, nor do I see the CPU reach past it's standard 2.3ghz under loads. Is this feature disabled? And is there a way I can safely enable it, or does it not have sufficient cooling to reach those speeds? Thank you!

LSC keeps giving me an alert that my Norton Antivirus is not active.I click the activate and nothing happenes. My Norton INternet Security Suite is active and working. How do I fix this?

Answer:Lenovo Support Center Ideapad 590

hi frankfallon,

Welcome to Community.

Your problem might be similar to this thread (although this is a different product, same aspects apply).

It's possible that the Lenovo Solutions Center (LSC) is not detecting your Nortorn Internet Security as an antivirus but as a Firewall (compared to Norton Antivirus). You can try to update to the latest LSC but if this doesn't fix it, you can just ignore the message from LSC about the antivirus not being active as the security software is already active.

I was considering getting a Lenova IdeaPad 510-15IKB. It has just the features I was looking for and a couple extra. After checking a full on review of this laptop, I am still convinced it is the one for me but I do have just a wee bit of reservation. The review noted a weakness in the WIFI card provided by Realtek as being "surprisingly slow".  So I wonder, how much trouble would it be to just upgrade the wifi card after buying this laptop. Well the answer turns out to be, it may be difficult or impossible to upgrade the wifi. So here I am looking for some help. Is the wifi card upgradable? If so what cards are compatible and can they be installed after the purchase? And perhaps the most important question, is my concern about this "slow" wifi legitimate?

Hey guys I would like to set up three monitors in my room and wanted to know if my Lenovo can handle it. I am in school studying programming, so I would be using it for development purposes, not gaming. I need some help to figure out if the laptop can do it, and what I need to buy to set it up. I have a monitor mount and monitors in mind, so the easy part is done. Seems like I will need a docking station. (??). Looks like this one meets my needshttps://www.amazon.com/Dell-Display-Docking-Station-D3100     OR this onehttps://www.amazon.com/Club3D-DisplayPort-HDMI-Multi-Display-CSV-5300H If I connect these to my laptop and 3 monitors, is that all I need to do? Thanks for any help

Dear Lenovo, would it be possible to have a separate category for the IdeaPad S series under the Idea Systems menu? It's just that the S's seem to be very different from the U's and Y's; indeed, even the S10e seems to be somewhat different from the S10 in terms of recovery etc. - I'm wondering if the S10e's were just randomly configured! Whilst I'm at it, a quick gripe about the S10/e support on the Lenovo site - try getting documentation such as a troubleshooting guide or a FAQ and you'll invariably draw a blank.  Apart from the parts list the only document seems to be the hardware guide (not even the user guide is available!). As a very happy owner of a T61p I'd anticipated good support, but I'm beginning to think that the IdeaPad S series owners are being given rather third class support! The S10/e is a sweet machine - please don't spoil it with lemon-flavoured support! Cheers.

Hey. I am having an ideapad y500 (with gt 650m) and i am trying to use the internal screen in my laptop + two external scrrens (one at HDMI and one at VGA), all 3 at the same time. It says in nvidia controlpanal, that my GPU only supports 2 screens at the time? Of what i can read, my GPU should supports 3 monitors at the same time? It recognizeses all monitors, and i can shift between them, but can't use all 3 at the same time, only 2. Is it posible to use all 3 monitors at the same time in some way? I have the newerst nvidia driver installed and i am running win8 (not 8.1) with all newerst updates. Regards Jesper

Answer:Ideapad y500 support for 3 screens

i guess not, when you connect you 2 screens to laptop it will disable the laptops main screen and activate other 2 unless you picked strech desktop feature? then it should give you 3 displays 2 left and right and main one in middle which is laptop one that can only work, but i dont think it works having mirror display on 2 external screens and then laptop screen that would overload GPU i think or so idk.

ok I am liking my ideapad im im running into alot of trouble with the disc partitioning right now i have 2gb free on the c drive and 40gb free on the d partition. so my only options are to buy a larger hdd or whipe out the whole driveok if i were to clone my hdd drive to a 320gb hdd will the system boot up and the novo button stay funtional ( iknow the limit is 250gb ) but will the ideapad read the 300gb even if most of it used up already ?my second question is the recovery dvd that comes with the ideapad will it reactivate the novo button if i were to reformat

Answer:questions about max HDD support and rcovery dvd that came with ideapad

OKR function uses only C drive, so it should have the same size as it has on previous HDD, also there should be hided recover partition with the OKR utility and working system image. So if you install another HDD OKR function will not work, because the recovery partition will remain at the old HDD.You can make it all by yourself, but you should get OKR partition creating utility. I suggest you to refer to service center - they can do it all, but it won't be free.

Hello everyone. I seem to be having problems with my IdeaPad Y500's internal microphone and webcam. I recently sent my laptop in for a service (my SSD was having some problems) and when I got my computer back, I couldn't get the microphone or webcam working. I tried reinstalling the appropriate drivers, deleting programs that take control of recording devices (such as Skype), and I even turned off automatic windows updates to make sure the drivers don't just update to their latest versions (which I also tried to install). Nothing has worked. I have tried plugging in an external microphone, but that doesn't work either. Is this a hardware issue or software issue? I'm assuming that during the repair service I sent my laptop in for, some wires got disconnected, but I'm not positive. I'm eventually going to call support, but I rarely have spare time at the moment, and I need my laptop for classes, so I can't just send it away for 1-2 weeks. I haven't tried to restore Windows 8 to default, because I'm reluctant to do so. Reinstalling programs and files is a pain. Any help would be appreciated. I rely on communicating with colleagues to work on classwork.

Answer:Y500 - Microphone and Webcam Not Working (After recieving computer back from support.)

Have you checked sound properties to see if your microphone is muted? My notebook had a habit of muting that when switching between the onboard mic and my headset mic. It muted it either way, up until I reinstalled Windows 8.

I bought TPS230U in may2013, and one monthe ago, the laptop just turned off by itself and wont turn on anymore. I had tried troubleshoop refresh and resetting options but it doesnt work.
My warranty certificate is still valid for itnernational support (now I live in  Brazil), so that, I called Brazil´s support (My laptop ID is: Type 3347 2GU S/N xxxxxxx 13/02.
At the first time I contacted by phone, the attendant asked me to (once again) turn off the laptop  and call back again. Well, I did it, adn (of course) it didnt work. So I called once again. The second the new clerk said I should buy a cd or dvd ( which could not be via USB stick ) , download from other computer and copy  an image file  that lenovo would understand the problem . I explained that I had not cd to record that moment. But he was very rude, and told me that it the  support goes to my house and concludes that there is a software problem and not hardwa, I was supposed to pay for the visit. So, I went to a store and bought a recordable CD , recorded the ISO file and got home to insert it into the laptop and....for my surprise,  my laptop doenst have any  entry for CD ! I feel that lenovo has been really disrespectfull with me and all I want is to have a simple support to my laptop, but I still couldnt have. Pleaase let me know how can I solve this problem before my waranty term expires!!!

I keep receiving calls from fake MICROSOFT Tech support with various telephone numbers. Strange, they do not show up in my phone on line logs. They wanted me to go to FASTSUPPORT\763721586 ( do not use  these numbers). It is a company  called FASTSUPPORT.com. they also give you a complaint department where you can enter the number that you feel is causing you problems, the number of the LOGMEINRESCUE type remote access code. of course it is clear to them that you are suspicious and they will get rid of the  phone operator who didn't succeed. So do not bother to leave any complaint.

I have a T430s laptop and it is less than 6 months old. It starting getting blue screens within a month of purchasing it. Technical support has been helpless in trying to fix the laptop. First, tech support told me to turn update my computer daily. Then another tech support employee told me to turn OFF my auto updates. This did nothing and over a few weeks the blue screens progressively got worse. Next, tech support told me to run a diagnostic on my computer which turned up nothing. Then, they tried giving me recovery discs and a new hard drive. After that failed they took it in to replace the system board which made the blue screens worse. Then they sent me MORE recovery CDs to try to fix the problem and that also made the blue screens worse. I called tech support after this and they said they would send in a request for a replacement laptop. I was told I would hear from someone in a couple days. FIVE days later I got a called from someone asking if I wanted a replacement and I said yes. Then I was told I had to wait two more business days to get contacted about it. Another 3-4 business days later, someone called me to tell me that they would NOT be replacing the laptop despite the fact tech support could not fix the laptop. After calling tech support once again, I was told that they wanted me to send in my laptop again for up to 7 business days! This is completely unacceptable. I have had problems with this laptop almost the entire time I have owned it and no one knows... Read more

I have just sent a thinkpad back for repair for the first time in over 20 years of owning  Thinkpad.  I have had 8 thinkpad  series laptops in my time as well as a few desktops and now lenovo phones. I am absolutely horrified with the diabolical Thinkpad support. This is meant to be business level support. I feel like I am phoning up Curry's.  Laptop sent back with hard disk in it and I am being told now that it "turned up without a hard disk in it". Now undercurrent of me lying. Original problem had not been assessed and I still don't have my laptop back after 3 weeks. Customer service agents just tell you anything they want to get you off the phone. I suppose all things come to an end but my loyalty to the Thinkpad brand is probably over now.  I am sure I am not the first. Has anyone else come across this?

We are Dell resellers and had placed an order for 43 Laptops - Dell Latitude 3560 with Dell on 13th June, 2016. We delivered them to our customer on Friday 17th June, 2016. On Monday 20th June we discovered that all the Laptops are faulty and are not functioning properly. They have not been able to use a single system due to touchpad issues in the entire lot
We have made innumerable calls Dell to resolve the problem, but the team is unable to identify and rectify the problem.
We have spoken to our partner account manager, regional account manager, Service Specialist and Escalation Team, requesting them to provide us with a solution at the earliest as their work is getting hampered. Our customer has to deploy the same by 1st July however they do not have any Dell Laptops functioning correctly.
How do we escalate this to the Dell management and get a replacement ASAP

Hello there, I'm interested in finding out more about the X220 - In particular the actual bandwidth available to the i7 Version of the X220 with it's USB 3 port. I'd like to be able to use the Black Magic Design Intensity Shuttle with this laptop, however it requires a Super Speed USB 3.0 Port. It's common for laptops to only use a single PCIe lane interconnect, giving the USB3 Port only 2.5gbps of available bandwidth. This won't be enough to allow that capture card to work  A similar situation also exists for the Expresscard slot - To be able to support Expresscard v2.0, It needs to provide 5gbps (2x PCIe v1 lanes). If it does this, It's possible I can buy an USB 3 Expresscard which will have enough bandwidth to use the card. In short I would like to know if the super speed USB 3 port can actually function at the intended speed, and is not crippled to half rate.

Started about a month ago - pops up over and over and over and over - about every five minutes or less.  I've got a Dell Studio XPS with Windows 7 Professional.  Another forum said to just uninstall Dell Support Center (Support Center Software) - but when I try to uninstall it - THE SAME STUPID WINDOW POPS UP ASKING ME TO INSERT THE SOFTWARE.  I tried doing a Browse and it's looking for DSC20.msi.  I haven't managed to find it yet.  I have at least found \Program Files(x86)\Dell Support Center but there's so many sub-directories...
I shouldn't have to be jumping through so many hoops just to uninstall a program.  This is driving me crazy and I haven't found an answer online yet.

I paid for 3 years of support and accidental damage in home support. Together, it cost around $400 on my new XPS laptop. Afew months after I bought XPS 15 9560, I pulled out the charging cord, and a round piece of plastic that was inside the port came out too.
I called technical support at 5 pm EST, and received someone in Southern India. I gave them my information, and they confirmed that I had service. They then fought with me for 15 minutes, telling me I could NOT have any in home service. The representative, who kept calling me by my first name (no respect)  said I had to send my laptop to a depot in Texas for them to identify the issue. Finally, after I insisted, the representative, S. Sirya Kiran, FINALLY allowed me to get in home support IF I sent him photos of the damage. I did. Finally, I received an email telling me to select a date for service, which I did, 12/18/17 between 9 am and 1:00 pm .
I took time off and waited. No one came by 11:30, or called. So I contacted World Wide Tech Services. They then told me they didn't have enough techs to handle my area, so they were NOT coming. I asked why no one gave me the courtesy of a phone call and they had no answer. They said a new company, Unisys, would contact me. (I doubt they ever will.)
Is this what Dell gives people for their money as far as support and accidental damage in home service for $400? This is an outrage.

Someone told me in another thread, and I also read here, that

All Wireless N routers support dual-band 802.11nClick to expand...

implying that any wireless N router can use the 5 GHz band as well as the 2.4 GHz band. Isn't that the implication?

Then why is it that when I browse routers, only some of them list both 2.4 and 5 GHz frequency, while others list only 2.4 in the specs? I want to switch my network over to 5 GHz in order to get away from all the interference I'm getting, as discussed in this thread.

So what's the real answer? Will any cheap "wireless N" router be able to do 5 GHz, (e.g. this one?) or do I need a more expensive dual band one?

Answer:Confused about router support for 5 GHz band. All wireless N routers support it??

No. The 802.11n standard supports 5GHz, but does not require it. Now if a device was 802.11ac, it will have a 5GHz radio since that standard only works on that freq.

Hardware Virtualization is not usable on the IdeaPad Z710. The CPU and the chipset both support VT-d. There's even an option in the BIOS to enable it. But the BIOS does not provide the required DMAR ACPI table do make hardware virtualization work. You can enable it, but without the DMAR table the OS can't make use of the hardware. This is clearly a BIOS bug and should be fixed.

Answer:IdeaPad Z710: virtualization support broken

I have same problem. Is there any solution on the way?

I am not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I could not find another place that seemed more suitable. Recently, my y560 stopped charging and recognizing when the ac adapter was plugged in.  I had this problem before, which was that the dc jack became unsoldered from the connection to the motherboard.  Anyways, I am having the same exact problem again, and have sent in my laptop yet again, but this time the repair has been put on hold. Upon calling technical support, they claim that the whole bottom part of the case needs to be replaced, however, this is not the case. They're claiming it needs to be replaced because the small plastic vents on the left side of the y560 (that covers a small part of the heatsink and is a completely non functional part, just a part of the plastic case), broke off through regular use (no abuse, high heats from gaming eventually caused it to weaken and I just took the rest of it off because the looseness of it was annoying me). This would not be a problem if they werent denying me repair due to this. All I need is the dc jack to be resoldered to the board (a simple fix), but theyre claiming that this non functional part needs to be replaced, or nothing at all will be fixed, which is not covered under my current warranty which I renewed. They say that I need to pay around $180 for a completely unnecessary repair. If there are any Lenovo mods, or support who could help me with this, it'd be greatly appreciated. Faulty manufact... Hello everybody, I am posting here as Google didnt give me any appropriate answers for my issue, not is there any sort of solution available in the forums or anywhere else.  The issue here is that Windows 10 recently introduced an option to share you internet connection to other devices by enabling an option called as "Mobile Hotspot". The issue here is that Lenovo has disabled the option to "Create a wifi hotspot using the command prompt, the hosted network method" due to this Mobile Hotspot feature of Windows 10. (I dont have any clue why this was disabled). Now what is useless in this Windows 10 Mobile Hotspot feature is that I can only create the hotspot if I am connected to some sort of existing cellular or wireless network, else I can't (yes, Microsoft screws it up every single time and I dont know why). The problem is that if i want to create a wireless hotspot for sharing some files, or to play games in LAN, I cannot do so using the Mobile Hotspot Option in Windows 10. I really want to request the Software Development Team of Lenovo to address this issue and enable support for Hosted Networks by providing an update to the drivers. I know it is possible to do so, but it requires an update to the Wireless Driver, and this can only be done by Lenovo. I read in meny websites that rolling back the driver will help, etc but none of them work, trust me I have tried every single method to get Hosted Network support working. I really hope som... Hi.  This is my first post on Lenovo forums.  Hoping someone can point me in the right direction.  I don't know much about computers and I'm about ready to hurl my new Yoga 900 (high definition display 3200 by 1800 resolution) over a cliff and jump with it!  I've had it for three weeks, and recently spent a few days setting it up with my apps and files ready for work.  When the display is working properly it's beautiful.  But, coincidence or not?, when Windows 10 (home) updates have downloaded, the screen has become hazy with very unnatural colours.  Too much yellow and red in the mix, and the whole image is very hazy. It came good for several days, but yesterday when there were some more updates, it's hazy again, and seems to be staying that way.  Ugh!!  I don't know if it's the Windows updates causing the issue, but it seems to happen at around the same time.. I tried updating the Display Adapter driver with the one for the Yoga 900 currently available on the Lenovo download site (Intel graphics driver released 13 May, Version 20.19.15.4364) but after downloading and going through the install process smoothly, I get a message saying that Windows has determined that the current one is the best, and the downloaded one is not verified by the computer manufacturer.  **bleep**?  It's Lenovo that's made this new driver available on their download website!!  Why won't... So I've been complaining, that my Ideapad screen has been scratching. The problem is, I don't do much with my laptop. I baby it. But my screen is literally covering it's self in scratches. I sent it in to Lenovo, and have basically been told either I spend $190 to replace it, or I'm screwed. It doesn't make any sense whatsoever. I haven't done anything to my laptop to cause these scratches. it's CLEARLY a design flaw even though they're attempting to tell me it's not, and I'm being screwed. Everyone knows these units are over priced, let's be honest. So now I need to spend more money? What is going on Lenovo? You're shaming IBM with the multitude of issues you're causing. Ricky xxxxxxx who sent me the overnight box has been really helpful, but this... this is ridiculous. You obviously do NOT care about your customers. I'll be selling this really great laptop, for a better built laptop, from a better company, who actually cares about their customers and has faith in their product. Thanks for screweing another hard working, honest customer. Oh yea, they tried to tell me over the phone that they'd NEVER heard of this problem before. What... they haven't done a search on their own forums yet? Jesus christ... Thanks Lenovo. I really really wanted to like this laptop, and I did, but this just isn't fair. Not fair one bit. Moderator note; full name of Lenovo employee edited. Forum Rules. Comment which did not conform to the forum rules edited.

Answer:RE: Scratches on my Ideapad Y730 , Customer Support.

I just called LENOVO again (at Lenovo). He would NOT put me through to a surpior (he says there aren't any above him.... really ....). And he said to me (I've recorded the phone call), that essentially this is a laptop you CANNOT put in a bookbag, or laptop bag. 'Compression on the screen will cause it to scratch, causing significant damage to the screen over time'. LENOVO techs told me I should have been covering my keyboard from the day I got my laptop. Guess what... NOTHING in the manual said ANYTHING about this apparent dire NEED to cover the screen. So what it boils down to, is a laptop that is NOT portable, and is self destructive during normal use? This is ridiculous. I pleaded with Ricky on the phone, as a student, as someone who has spent a lot of money on this laptop, and he basically told me there isn't anything anyone can do. Really? This is how you treat your customers Lenovo? I'll be sure to post not only this thread, but the phone call, pictures of my laptop screen, and this entire experience everywhere on the internet humanly possible. Not out of spite. I love IBM/LENOVO, but this specific laptop issue, is unfair, and unjust. I'm being told I'M doing something wrong by using my laptop normally, and not adhearing some some ridiculous precaution I was never made aware of (WHO has to by a cover for their laptop keyboard? What kind of laptop literally REQUIRES this otherwise it's ruined.... come on). I'll be doing this for awarness. Ricky (at L... Read more

Hi All, I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with the Y570 operating with Sun Solaris 10 OS.I see there is no driver support for Solaris 10 under the Y570, so i am reluctant to purchase. Any experiences to share, or confirmation that the Y570 hardware is compatible with Solaris 10? Thanks. Col.

Answer:IdeaPad Y570 - Hardware support under SUN Solaris 10

Hello Cmurphy,

You may try the Oracle tool which helps in checking the system if it can support Oracle Sun Solaris 10
The tool can be access from the mentioned below web link.
http://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/hcl/hcts/device_detect.html

However, there are no drivers available for Sun Solaris Operating System on website. Usually the drivers are installed by the Sun Solaris itself.

Hi all,I have an ideapad Y430 278182U and a old TV which has S-video in, Composite video In, Component Video in.  Unfortunately, Ideapad doesn't have an S-video port. However, it does have the VGA port and intel 4500 graphics chipset. I'd like to know if it supports TV out using the VGA port?Additionally is it possible to get a HDMI to Component cable or HDMI to Composite cable? Awaiting a possible solution to teh dilemma at hand.Regards,Amit.

Answer:Does Ideapad Y430 278182U support TV-out through VGA port?

You will need a VGA to TV converter like this:http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260439159370 They make all different kinds of converters so you will have to do your own research to find the features and pricepoint that works for you.

So I received my very first Lenovo product a couple days ago, a brand new IdeaPad Y580 that I paid nearly a grand for. The laptop worked perfectly for the first day (~4 hours of use), however, the following day everything went to crap. The fans will run on high speeds intermitently, even when on power saving options. My backlight will come on and everything will power up, but the screen will be blank.  I have been on the phone tirelessly with Lenovo's phone support and have tried hard restarting the computer, messing with the charger, trying different methods with the battery... I have even went as far as to borrow my friend's Lenovo charger and battery to see if that is the issue. Nothing has worked so far, the screen will work once in a while but for the majority of the time, the laptop starts with a blank screen. The fans will also speed up for no reason, but I can't be sure of that because I cannot see anything on the monitor.  Telephone support has been no help and neither has e-mailing them. This is my very first Lenovo laptop and am sorely disappointed. Not even a full days worth of use and the laptop is out of service. Does anybody have any clues, beyond what Lenovo CSR has already tried, that would get this laptop to work?

Hi

The Chicony camera driver is not very good and has a bug. When using something like Messenger Live you can't enable "Night mode" using the advanced video settings as the setting is absent from the adjustment pages. You can set "Night Mode" on the Camera Assistant software, but this has no effect when the camera is running in Messenger Live.

"Night mode" is pretty much essential for typical indoor usage on the Chicony camera and without it the picture is very dark and not that usable.

If I use a Logitech camera it's driver exposes much better settings in Messenger Live including it's equivalent of 'night mode'.

It this something Toshiba can feed back to Chicony and get some better drivers?

Regards

Phil

Answer:Satellite Pro S300 - Chicony USB 2.0 Camera poor driver support

Hi

I managed to get night mode working in Messenger.

1) Start Messenger and connect to your contact and start sharing webcam as normal.
2) Launch the Camera Assistance Software and from the menu select the first option to preview video. The preview will not show and you see a message about the camera locked in use.
3) Click the spanner icon top right, then select Properties.
4) If night mode is selected, deselect and click apply, then apply it, the webcam is now in Night mode in Messenger.

*Note*, you have to go via the image preview route as the buggy driver software will not change the Night Mode setting if you go directly to properties using the spanner icon in the slide out menu.

What would be nice if Toshiba got some better driver support and night mode was selectable in the exposed properties in Messenger.

The Chicony camera and driver support is one of the worst ones I have seen included in a laptop.

Regards

Phil
