The warranty status about my ideapad Y460

Question: The warranty status about my ideapad Y460

I placed my purchase order of Y 460 and an additional 2-year in home NBD warranty service on Lenovo official website on Aug 18th, I got it on Aug 21st. Maybe I should say it's quickly enough. However, after I put my serial number to the lenovo website and tried to ensure my warranty status, I found my warranty will expire on 09/07/2011... I really have no any idea about how LENOVO figure this date out, but I'm pretty sure that this date is incorrect ...Does anyone meet the same problem with me ? Is there any one know how to fix it? Thanks a lot!

Preferred Solution: The warranty status about my ideapad Y460

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: The warranty status about my ideapad Y460

You must contact Lenovo with your invoice to show them the exactly date you have bought your laptop. The warranty extension counts from the day you have bought your laptop.

My dell xps 15 9550 was purchased with a 3yr extended warranty.  After getting an email offering to sell an extended warranty, I checked the dell warranty status.  Sure enough, no extended warranty appears.  Is this a system problem or do I need to do something.
Thanks

Answer:extended warranty not showing up in warranty status

Was it ordered from Dell, or from a third party - or puchased through a retailer?

Hello, new here becasue the internet couldn't find me a straightforward answer. I'm not computer savvy so feel free to explain like I'm 5. I have this Lenovo Ideapad y460 from about two years ago: http://www.pc-tablet.us/wp-content/plugins/rss-poster/cache/e0cf9_Lenovo-IdeaPad-Y460-0633.jpg It used to have the switchable graphics: http://support.lenovo.com/ContentResources/Migrated%20Assets/consumer_images/userfiles/image/Untitle... I recently dropped my computer, got a new hardrive put in and now NONE of the old lenovo drivers/softwares are there (Aero screen, switchable graphics, touchpad, webcam, etc.) I've managed to reinstall the touchpad but nothing else, how do I get the switchable graphics back? Right now it's set by default to dedicated card so my computer can't be used without the charger. Thanks.

If the current driver is working fine, then there ia no need to upgrade because it may be that they dont work properly. But if you want to update the driver anyway, then you could use the amd auto driver detect. Dowload it from amd support site.

Hi, I have a core i3 IdeaPad Y460 with 320 HD, 4GB RAM, Intel integrated video and HD.  The problem is that the resolution of the monitor, especially when viewing images or videos is very poor. It looks unrealistic, with saturated colors and pixelated.I tried to fix it with drivers that appear on the Lenovo site, and there was no improvement, also updated the BIOS, and energy management but did not help. Finally I restored the system and makes wine, but neither solved the problem. Note: This model does not bring ATI. Tech-support  (@0800...) told me that the only solution is to go to a service center, but I don t want to run 10 or 15 days without the computer.  Someone has any idea what can be done? Regards.

i am the unfortunate owner of a broken y460 that i purchased one year ago. Over the past month i had noticed my laptop getting extremely hot when running the most basic applications and as of 3 hours ago when i went to turn on my computer it did not  get past the black screen with the blinking cursor. it was getting so hot that i decided to purchase an extra lap fan.i am at a loss i really took care of this computer making sure to never run overbearing programs even though it has a i5 and the better graphics card that lenovo offered one year ago. i was curious if there was anything i can do. i was hoping to get more the one solid year operation  on a machine that cost about 1k. apparently i am not covered under any warranty at this time. Does this sound like a hardware problem are there ways to check. As a side-note i tried to use the one button recovery but as the same with the boot up it get stuck at the black screen with the blinking cursor. Thanks for any help.

hi ibootzblinking cursor points that you're having mbr issue. as i remember, there are ways to fix that issue, you can search but before you can try these:- remove/replace/swap the ram sticks.- unplug the ac power, remove the battery, press power button for 30-40 seconds, replace the battery and check if it works.- try to set default settings for bios.i'll also try to find the threads, if i do, i'll post here.

Hi,
I bought this laptop 3 weeks ago. it's an intel i5 M520 with 4GB ram, 500gb hdd, ati radeon graphics, windows 7 64bit.

It crashed 3 times so far, and everytime after an hour of using the laptop only in battery while using the integrated video card. I didnt try with ATI card to run on battery. But I always use ATI when I am using an external monitor while it is plugged and it never crashed then. It did not crash when i was switching the graphics card.

I had to push down the power button to shut down as nothing was responding.
Havent installed anything complicated other than phpeditor and ftp filezilla, mozilla, chrome.

NOte that i reinstalled Windows to factory settings again using OneKey Recovery.
And to my disappointment it happened again and Today instead of being frozen it went to blue screen and restarted auto. Here is what the windows problem solver showed. What should I do? Take it to a service center, i have warranty. Thanks a lot in advance for your help. I also attached the .dmp and .xml file in .zip format.

Hi and welcome Abu
This is pretty straight foward, your BSOD was caused by your intel wifi driver, please download and install fresh copy of it

Quote:
Driver Removal and Reinstallation:
Please do the following:
- download a fresh copy of the latest Windows 7 version of the program for this driver from the Intel website (NOT from Windows Update or from the Update driver function in Device Manager). If there are no Windows 7 drivers, post back for further instructions on installing Vista drivers using Compatibility mode.
- uninstall the current version from your system
- install the freshly downloaded version
- check to see if you have any further BSOD's

I just received my notebook today and have been testing it out. It turns out it comes preloaded with a TON of software, much of which I imagine I don't need (McAfee, Cyberlink YouCam, etc...) My question is, what can I safely remove and what should I be sure not to remove? Simply browsing through the forums I have seen that some people have run into trouble by uninstalling something they should not have. I bought my laptop September 2010. In the last three days, my laptop shut down by itself without any notice. The first sudden shut down was when I'm webcaming with a contact using Windows Live Messenger. The second and third sudden shutdown is when I'm playing video games (NFS Shift 2, Rainbow Six Vegas 2). I checked Windows 7 event viewer and I got this: Event 41, Kernel-Power "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.". What is the cause of this and what can I do to fix this? I never get this problem before and I can play games or webcam with no sudden shut down.

Hello, I received my new IdeaPadY460 about three weeks ago. Right out of the box I noticed that the touchpad was acting strange. For instance; cursor freezing, zooming documents and web pages in and out when just trying to move cursor to a different location, cursor changing to the 'move' icon for no reason, cursor stuttering when trying to move it across the screen. scrolling activated even though fingers are not in the scrolling area of the touchpad .... just to name a few.

To the aforementioned, I figured that I just needed to adjust the 'Touch Sensitivity' and 'PalmCheck' settings. I went through every conceivable combination on all the touchpad features to no avail. Only thing that made the touchpad a little better was to remove the Synaptics driver and use the touchpad as a dumb mouse. Even then the cursor would 'fly' across the screen and would 'disappear'.

I then tried switching out the (Synaptics) driver to different versions (upgrades and downgrades). This did not alleviate or rectify the problem. CAVEAT: using any other (Synaptics) driver than the one on Lenovo's website (version 14.0.18.0 as of this writing) will cause loss of the Navbar's Energy Management, OneKey Theater, and volume and mute button functionality. This driver provides special functionality for these buttons.

I have searched the internet for this problem on a Y460 but did not find any. It did become apparent that Lenovo has inherent issues with touchpads on other devises. Most ... Read more

A few days ago I tried to use my internal webcam, and it would work for a few minutes via Google Hangouts and then freeze. On Skype, it would be detected for a second, then make a sound as if I am unplugging a device (e.g. disabling a driver), and reconnect. Lastly, I reinstalled CyberLink YouCam 3, and now the cam isn't detected at all. Anybody have any ideas as to what it could be?

P.S. If it's a driver issue, does anyone know where one is? I can't find one on the blasted Lenovo site anywhere!

Thanks in advance everyone!

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Y460: Webcam is not detected

Theres 2 different sites for lenovo computers. Look for the one that has the drivers for the different models of ideapad laptops. It might be listed under support drivers and downloads. The other site is for the older ibm computers and thinkpads. It might be listed under laptop integrated webcam or something close to that.Im going to guess that yours came either with windows xp or vista. i had a y530 ideapad that came with vista so there should be the correct drivers for it.

So, I've received my laptop after two weeks, used it for about and hour or so, run the battery out, then plug it in and start charging it while using it. About half an hour later, it shuts down on me by itself, it was running pretty warm/hot so I thought it must've just been too warm. I let it sit for a bit, attempt to boot it back up, no response. Try again, nothing, no lights, no sounds, no anything. Of course at this point I'm already like, what the... I try taking out battery power button 10 times  and everything, no avail.I call technical support and they suggest I get a return/exchange.So this man says it'll take 1-3 weeks to process and everything after receiving my RMA/exchange thing which also takes 2 business days. Then I have to get it back to them, so that'll take some time too. I start school in 2 weeks. It's part of the reason why I bought this laptop, not knowing I would get something like this. Do they cover the cost of shipping? Also, is there anyway I could get them to use some faster shipping? (I'm in Canada)

Answer:Ideapad Y460 Wont boot up/RMA Shipping

They pay for the shipping but it's UPS ground shipping, which is 5-7 days. I don't know if you could get a faster shipping. They didn't ask me if I preferred any other shipping method than  UPS ground. Another option for you: If you're sure you haven't done anything to your laptop and it came bad, don't do exchange, do a return for full refund. If the problem is not your fault, they do a full refund if you do an RMA within 21 days after your invoice. They process the refund in about 10 days after they receive the laptop (what Lenovo says). In the mean time you can buy any laptop you want while waiting for the refund Try to do everything by the book, they may decline the refund after the quality check if you've done something wrong(Opening parts of the Laptop you're not supposed to touch, dropping, liquid spill, etc). Beware.

Hi. I got an ideapad y460 about three weeks ago. Hi all! I have a y460 since august 2010. A few months ago the microphone just stopped working. It doesn't appear in the device manager at all and there are no unknown devices there either. A few weeks ago, the HDMI audio device disappeared as well. It used to work, I used it only a few times, but now it's the same story. Not in the device manager, not in the playback devices menu. I'm runninng the Win 7 64 bit that was preinstalled when I bought it. Could a windows update have messed this up? Please help me.

Answer:Ideapad y460 integrated microphone and HDMI audio gone

That is possible, Windows may have updated audio driver.Check settings for WU and see if "Give me recommended updates..." is checked.
If so, audio driver may have been changed. (I usually leave it Unchecked to avoid problems.)

*Quickest way to access WU is to click Start orb, type "update" (without quotes)
and watch for WU link at top of list. Click or Enter when it is highlighted.*

Also View Update History to see if it was changed. If it was, you can "Roll Back" the audio driver to previous.Or the audio driver may need to be reinstalled.Post back findings first.

Hi Everyone, I have an Ideapad Y460 from December 2010. Of course, it has the ATI discrete card and intel integrated graphics. Certain times, usually directly after I turn the computer on, I cannot get the graphics processor to switch. The hardware button on the front does not work, and even right clicking ATI Catalyst Control Center -> Configure Switchable Grahpics and explicitly clicking the graphics processor I want to use simply does nothing. Currently, I have to reboot every time to get this to work. It's a big hassle, and I was wondering if anyone might have any clue as to the reason or a fix? Thanks!- Chase Meadors

Answer:Ideapad Y460: Switchable graphics sometimes refuse to switch; must reboot

You can set you switchable graphics from dynamic to static in bios, once set like this you can right click on the desktop to change between dedicated graphics or Intel graphics. You should leave it set this way in any case. Can I disable Switchable Graphics?

Hi everyone. I have an Ideapad Y460 running Win7 x64 SP1, with switchable graphics - Intel HD / Mobility Radeon 5650. When I tried to update my Intel hd graphics driver through Device Manager (Display adapters, right-clicked Intel HD Graphics, Driver tab, "update driver", "search automatically for updated driver software"), Device Manager for some reason changed "Intel HD graphics" to "Standard VGA graphics adapter" and resolution became 800x600. I rebooted, but after that, I couldn't roll back the driver (button was greyed out in Device Manager). I first tried the HD graphics driver from Intel's website for my processor (i5 430 M) but that had a driver signing issue. After disabling the driver signing enforcement, it led to the no-display issue, details in the next paragraph. I subsequently tried to install the Intel HD Graphics driver from the Lenovo support site (IN2VDO26WW6.exe), but after rebooting, there is no display after the "Starting Windows" screen. The sound at the login screen plays, and I can enter my password and have it log in (based on sound cues), and apparently everything loads fine (can shutdown using Run command), just that there is no display. I have tried setting my laptop's date to near the driver's date, to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. (Yes I did a very stupid thing that caused this whole mess. :C  T_T  )

So I got this Ideapad Y460 last Thursday, and loved it.  Over the weekend tried installing Office 2007 and did some file transfer.  This morning I noticed that the system froze when it tried to come out of sleep mode, and worst still that nice desktop background I really like (the one that is default with the gold Lenovo displayed) is no longer present. Initially I thought perhaps it was slow in recovering, but it seems to have happened at least twice already.  Also tried searching for that desktop background, but unable to locate it in the library. HELP!

Hi knowledgeable lenovo-wise folks. As the title suggests, I'm considering purchasing the new Ideapad Y560p/460p (haven't decided on which yet). I'd really like to upgrade the 5400 RPM to a Crucial RealSSD C300, but have little experience doing such things. Of course, since it isn't offered as an option, I'd have to get one on my own and install it myself. Is this even possible? Would it void my warranty? Has anyone had experiences doing something like this? Also, how difficult would it be? Thanks, Paul

When I check for the warranty status of my laptop, I am told that the country is unknown, the ship date is January 01, 0001, and  start and end date are empty. See screenshot below.
I bought it used at an online auction, but think that it might still be under warranty. How can I find out if it is?

Answer:What is my warranty status?

You'll need to contact the seller/registered owner of the system -- you can only transfer a warranty if the current registered owner can be reached for verification and/or initiates the process.

Question: warranty status

I bought a new Lenovo s10-2 on 12-14-2010 I received it 12-16-2010. I checked online to register and check the warranty status and when i punched in my serial number The information showed that the warranty had already expired. My seller contacted Lenovo and was told that the online information was incorrect and I was given a phone number to call at Lenovo. After several phone calls to Lenovo and hearing people tell me that there was no warranty, I finally talked to somebody who understood the situation and entered some information on her system and told me that I do now have an up-to-date warranty. I asked her to send me an e-mail to confirm in writing that I do indeed have a new warranty. She said that she is not allowed to do that because would be a violation of security procedures. That sounds like BS to me. Is it too much to ask for a written warranty? I want Lenovo to send me a written warranty by e-mail, snail mail, pony express or whatever method that gives me the information I want. I've been trying for 3 days to register and get warranty information on a product I bought and can't get it done. Hey this is the 21ST Century. This is complete BS on the part of Lenovo.

All,

Last week, we ran a special e-coupon promotion on our website for a particular model of the IdeaPad Y460 laptop (model number: 06334MU). We?re embarrassed that the coupon we offered contained a significant pricing error ? we meant to sell the laptop at a steep discount at $599, but by mistake, advertised it at $399. As you can imagine, this pricing error triggered an overwhelming response.

We filled orders on a first come, first served basis until we sold out. We then cancelled the remaining orders, and we?re now working to quickly release credit card authorizations. We want customers to know we have not charged their credit cards.
Unfortunately, there are no more Y460 laptops in this configuration (model number: 06334MU) left since we have discontinued this particular model.

We?re sorry about the mistake and want our customers to experience all the fun computing features of Lenovo laptops. We are extending a special offer to our customers who were affected and will be contacting you directly with details. Thanks again for your patience and continued business.

My R61 was dead last month because of NVS140M.  Ordered an IdeaPad Y460 with 3-y In home warranty next business day on Aug 3.  It was broken on arrrival with a completely dead screen.  I call techinical service and ask for suggestion; they directed me to Sales for replacement and return;Sales claimed that there is no replacement;  So I had to return for refund. Lenovo customer service representive told me Lenovo will arrange UPS pickup.  He gave me RMA# C2900-07987477-001 on Aug 10;  But UPS never showed up since that (I am in my house all the time).   What shall I do? Thank you very much for your reply.

Answer:IdeaPad Y460 dead on arrival AND bad customer service (sales/return)

TonyC,

If you have a failure within the first 21 days, you may elect to have the system serviced, or you can return it and have the restocking fee waived.   While I may be wrong, I'm not sure that Lenovo provides return labels for product returns.

When returning, you can either order an advanced replacement (the new system charged to your card and credited back when defective one is received back) or return for refund and then re-order.   I know we are taking a look at this process to see if we can replace the system and only charge if the defective unit is not returned.

Please send me a private message with your order number and I'll see what we can do.   Sorry to hear about your R61!

Best regards,

Mark

Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

I have a Lenovo X61 Tablet PC. I paid extra for a 3 yr warranty. I am now in my third year but when I go to Lenovo's site, it says my unit is out of warranty as it had only a 1 yr warranty. I called and was directed to Entitlement. I have talked to a few different people there, anbd each one says that they can see that in fact I do have a 3 yr warranty. But each of them also says that they can't change the system. So my case was handed off to someone else who initially worked with me by email. I even sent him a copy of my invoice, showing that I paid for the warranty. He now seems to have dropped off the face of the earth . . .  or at least Lenovo. I have spent an enormous amount of time on an issue that would seem to be so easy to fix. And I continue to get absolutely nowhere. I have been a regular Lenovo customer, but this has me rethinking the relationship. I need to contact somebody who will take responsibility for getting this fixed. Any suggestions?

Hello everybody, I bought a new Thinkpad R61 in combination with 3 year on-site warranty service-pack. Now its fine, it shows as 3 years warranty, BUT with a displacement. It should be from June-2009 to June 2012 instead its showing as June-2008 to June-2011. Now I have a hardware problem and called the support several times with the conclusion, that I need a new mainbaord. BUT: the support can't see the on-site warranty. I forwarded a mail with the invoice from the retailer to the support and they wanted to check this a contact me again. Now no response from there. The only way to contact the registration department is via mail ([email protected]). Does somebody have the same problem and has a solution for me?For example a telephone number of this department? I think, you can imagine, that I am really disappointed of the Lenovo thinkpad service! Thanks a lot in advance!

Good evening everyone,Yesterday I just bought a new laptop 13'' Hp Pavillion x360 model 13-u104nl.I am very pleased with the features and performance of this product. The only flaw that I noticed is the lack of a valid SSD drive; there is a classic obsolete mechanical WD drive 1 TB.Now, my idea would be to replace the mechanical hard drive inside with a SSD (like Samsung 850 evo) with a modest capacity of only 250 GB, but I noticed the lack of the classic inferior doors for the "user replaceable part". My model requires a bit of disassembly before I can access the hard drive and replace it.My question is, according to your opinion, mounting a new ssd, following all the instructions in the service manual, will void my warranty? There are any warranty seals that will be violated by opening the laptop? In any case, I will keep the original drive in a safe place, and I will put it back into the PC if I have to send it to repair.Any suggestion is very appreciated. Thank you in advice

I'm planning to do a full system recovery via OneKey Recovery for my Lenovo IdeaPad Y460 lappie after a major Windows update failed and screwed up the system, causing a lot of annoying problems. I was wondering if I would lose my files if I were to restore it to its "initial state". I swear I remembered that I was still able to keep my "user" files in a "Windows.old" folder the last time I've done a recovery, but I'm not really sure. I've got GB's of data to back up if that's not the case.

Answer:Will I lose my personal files if I do a full system recovery (Lenovo IdeaPad Y460)?

I too would appreciate an answer to this question, but for a different reason. I attempted to copy some files onto C: using a Linux live CD and this caused some serious filesystem corruption. Since it's a brand new machine I figure I will just do a system restore to factory defaults. But does this format the partition or does it just re-copy system files?

Hi,I have narrowed my choices down to these two laptops for purchase:1. Acer ES 11 NX.MYKSI.021 ES1-131 (11.6, Celeron Dual Core,2GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Win 10 Home)2. Acer E15 UN.MZ8SI.023 ES1-531-C2YE (15..6, Celeron Dual Core,2GB RAM, 500GB HDD, DOS)The thing is I have a 4GB DDR3 (1.35V Low Voltage) RAM chip as a spare from a non-functioning laptop, so I would like to remove the default 2GB RAM and put this in its place (since both laptops have only one RAM slot). However, from what I have read/seen so far, the disassemby of both laptops is quite complicated for a novice, as the entire bottom has to be dismantled. Obviously, since I am buying this as a low cost option, I dont want to end up paying 25% or more of the price for just the installation of the RAM chip I already have. So, what I was wondering was - what would be the status of the warranty if I do manage to replace the RAM chip myself, or if I got it done by a local computer repair guy?? hello, I bought this t400s (2815-w14) a little bit more than a month ago in Germany. but still the warranty status cannot be found on Lenovo's website. it shows:  Our apologies Information for Warranty was not found. Please click back and try again or you may navigate clicking on 'Warranty'.   should I contact the dealer or Lenovo Support to get this problem fixed? Thanks for your help in advance.

Answer:Cannot find the warranty status (t400s)

I assume you're going to the Lenovo support website, to the Warranty section, and putting in your MTM and serial? If so, you might want to have someone with access to Lenovo's warranty systems check. It should be easy enough to call Lenovo support and ask them to check your warranty status.

If it is not showing as having warranty, call the reseller you bought it from and they should be able to help.

I got a new W520 which says it has the wrong warranty. I have the invoice saying I paid for the NBD 3 year service.  I have spent 2 weeks trying to get Lenovo to fix the warranty, and still no joy.

Lenovo support say they dont deal with warranies, and I would need to contact their warranty dept by email: [email protected]  Goodby. Buck passed.

You can try this email, but be warned these guys take at least 3 days to reply to any email, so a simple conversation takes weeks.

Their final email was that although I bought the w520 direct from the lenovo website, this is actaully managed by one of their suppliers, not lenovo, so I have to contct them.  Goodby.  Buck passed.

So I still dont have the warranty I purchased with the unit, and the HW has already failed.

Good luck with yours.

My next thinkpad will be a dell.  Their support and warranties just work.

It takes 2-4 weeks for the upgraded warranty to appear in the system. Support should have been able to handle this for you, when I called about mine not showing up they transfered me over to IBM who had me email a copy of the invoice to them.

EDIT: Even though your warranty is not showing up in the automated system it is in effect. The reason for this is because IBM handles the warranty extensions (from what I understand). All you need to do is call the number for your country from the list below and provide proof of purchase to have your system serviced under the extended warranty.

Wrong warranty status date. How do you go about getting the warranty status date updated?

Answer:Wrong Warranty Status V570

Was this machine purchased from a retailer.  I mean - not direct from Lenovo?

This is often the case if a machine sits in inventory, since the warranty starts with date of manufacture.

Call support.  Be prepared to email a proof of purchase.  It can take some time for this to get sorted.

I purchased my new All-in-one computer from PC World on Thursday 23 February 2017. But, when I view the warranty information using the HP Support Assistant, it says it's "EXPIRED", warranty end: 09/12/2016! What's going on? This is a brand new computer? How can I get this fixed?

Answer:New computer Warranty Status incorrect

Hi MrsRDH, Welcome to HP Support Forums! I would check with HP Customer Support to see if they can fix your warranty issue. The link to HP customer support page: http://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp Hope this helps! Have a nice day! Justin L.

I just received my T420 from Lenovo, for which I paid for 3 yrs onsite and 3 yrs Thinkpad protection.  However, a check on the warranty status of the machine on the Lenovo wesbite here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=SITE-WARNTY&sitestyle=lenovo shows the machine as having a 1 yr standard depot warranty.  I am hoping there is someone from Lenovo who can reply on how & when machine warranty entitlements get updated in their database.  In the past, when I have ordered Thinkpads, the correct warranty information has showed up on their system right away....usually at the same time as the shipment notification.  Now I am concerned that the machine entitlement will not be correctly recorded.

Answer:Problem with warranty status of brand new T420

It can take a week for the warranty to be updated.

Hi,  I have recently bought a Lenovo G580.  Lenovo Solution Center has a permanent warning saying it is 'Unable to determine the warranty status'.  I have been onto the Lenovo support site, check warranty status page and enter the serial number, it says 'Machine Type and Serial not found in iBase'.  What does this mean?  How can I check the warranty status (bought from a reputable retailer, so I assume there's some kind of warranty attached) and how can I get rid of this message out of Lenovo Solution Center?!Thanks.

I have a Western Digital hard disk which I purchased 09/2008 from NewEgg. The warranty on this drive is 3 years. I went to their web site and attempted to get an RMA for the failed drive.

Problems:
Several attempts over several hours told me consistently I was entering an invalid serial number. Not possible--I was copying and pasting the number from their test report to their web site.
Next, I was advised the web site was down and suggested I use Chat.
Next, Chat was down.
The next day, the site finally accepted the serial number and responded the drive has no warranty and never did, that it was a drive sold to an OEM builder (like HP or maybe Dell) and that I should contact the OEM builder.
I called by phone, talked to a real human, verified the warranty was good through November, 2011 and got an advanced replacement.
So, if Western Digital's web site tells you your drive has no warranty, don't believe it. Phone them up.

Hello everybody, I bought a new SL510 in combination with 3 year on-site warranty service-pack. During the service-pack registration process, I received an error message and had to forward my warranty request to Lenovo UK registration department. A few days later, I reveiced a confirmation e-mail and thougt, everything is fine. Now I have a hardware problem and called the support several times with the conclusion, that I need a new mainbaord. BUT: the support can't see the on-site warranty - only the 1 year standard warranty. I forwarded the mail with the warranty registration also to the support and they wanted to check this a contact me again. I am now waiting for 3 weeks to get a feedback AND to get an exchange of my defective system! The only way to contact the registration department is via mail ([email protected]). Does somebody have the same problem and has a solution for me?For example a telephone number of this department? I think, you can imagine, that I am really disappointed of the Lenovo service! Thanks a lot in advance! kind regardsTobias

Hi, I'm looking to buy a new/newish thinkpad T410. Because I don't have a huge budget, I'll have to buy it on Ebay. I'm looking for a machine with at least 2 years of (valid) on-site warranty left. I'm a bit worried about the authenticity of the machine and the status of the warranty if I buy one off Ebay. As a result, I have a couple of questions: 1/ Assuming the machine is authentic (hasn't been tampered with, parts and motherboard are original), is the standard 3 year on-site warranty 100% transferable? I've heard that it is, but just wondering if there is any chance that Lenovo wouldn't honour the Warranty, given that I won't be able to provide proof of purchase. If you call up Lenovo to get a thinkpad fixed under warranty, what is the process involved? Do you literally just read out the model/type and serial number and they send someone out, or do they require any further information (e.g. proof of purchase, etc.)? Does anyone have some first-hand experience of this? 2/ My second concern is that, because I'm buying it on Ebay, there's a chance that someone might have tampered with the machine, swapped the motherboard (which if I understand correctly, completely invalidates the warranty?), or changed some of the components (the hard drive in particular would be a problem). What would be the best way of checking the autenticity of the machine? Is there a standard way of checking the authenticity of the motherboard (either physically, via BIOS or via som... Read more

Answer:Checking authenticity of T410 being sold on Ebay + warranty status

Alright:First off, Lenovo should honor the transfer- I'm not sure if the old owner has to sign off on it or not (don't have first-hand experience of this).Secondly, the serial number contains all you need to know. I believe the easiest way to figure out what kind of machine it is/was is to give Lenovo a call and give them the number. If it was stolen, you can find that out that way as well- though you'd have to get the seller to give his or her name so you can cross-reference it with what they have on file. There isn't a way to check if the hard drive is the same- but it should support the Active Protection System if it's the Lenovo model(s).If an add-on card was taken out and sold, and the listing claims clearly that it is in the computer, then you have recourse with eBay.Changing the hard drive doesn't invalidate the warranty, by the way- it's designed to be consumer-replaceable (if it dies they'll send you a new one for you to install- a CRU). Also, hard drives are pretty hardy- they're pretty well protected and cushioned in a T410.Just out of curiosity, what kind of budget do you have?

Hello, two years ago, I bought a lenovo T61 with three years of warranty *home service*. Soon after, I needed a service repair of my notebook. At this time it was no problem to register my machine at lenovo and to get the service repair.Unfortunately, two month ago, there was again the same problem with my machine. When I then tried to call in the service, the lenovo warranty system claimed that my warranty had already expired the exact day I actually had bought the machine. I looked into the lenovo forum and found out that others had similar problems. So I followed the adwise in this forum to adress to [email protected], but lenovo kept on telling me that there had never been a warranty on my notebook. I sent lenovo the original bill, on which is written *bought with three years of warranty, home repair service*, I sent them the invoice tracking number of the first service repair, I even contacted my licenced lenovo dealer to confirm that the machine was not accidentally sold as a broker machine *lenovo suggested this*, but still the company refuses to accept my warranty. So, in compliance with my lenovo dealer and after two months of many, many e-mails with lenovo, I now try to find help in this forum. I would be happy if somebody has an idea what to do with my warranty problem.

Answer:T61 - warranty status of the machine got accidentally changed to expired and cannot be reactivated

After reading the latest news on the Lenovo LSE (Lenovo Service Engine) and suggested BIOS updates I need some clarification. Does updating your BIOS from a download on a Lenovo Support page specifically for one?s laptop invalidate one?s warranty? I assume not but I just want to know for sure. I have a Lenovo Edge 15. There is a BIOS update listed for my Edge 15 that just came out 8/12/15.

I read a quote in an article from The Guardian on the web stating that Lenovo encourages their users update their BIOS to the latest firmware: http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/aug/14/lenovo-service-engine-pre-installed-security-super...   I just want to make sure that doing so does not invalidate the warranty.

I appreciate your answer.

Thanks.

Hello, I have an Ideapad Y460. When I connect the charger, the charging indicator shows up. But when I hit the power button, the laptop does not turn on. I know that there is no issues with the motherboard etc. There is a Cable which connects from the Motherboard to the panel on which the Power button resides (touch inductive panel). I think it is called FPC connector/cable. That is what is written in the manual Page 52. (1) First time I spoke to Lenovo Tech Support: The lady said, "That cable is part of the keyboard panel, you can buy one for 48$ and the cable will come with it. We dont sell the cable individually."I did not believe she had the knowledge and I knew she was wrong. (2) Second time I spoke to Lenovo Tech Support: The guy was VERY IMPATIENT initially, and he said " This is called LCD cable, we have it, but we dont sell it. You can buy it at any store, it is a general cable (OR) send it to us, we will charge 80$ to look at it and identify the issue and then give you an estimate !!!"Are you kidding me? I am very disappointed, confused, frustrated, irritated right now with the company and the response of their Tech support. All I want is to buy this cable which should cost anywhere between 2$ and 20$. Why should I spend more than that for anything else!!! http://i.imgur.com/OmrRo.jpg?1http://i.imgur.com/83qMg.jpg?1http://i.imgur.com/KWazq.jpg?1http://i.imgur.com/FMAlC.jpg?1 PLEASE SEE THE IMAGES ATTACHED and please help me out. Hi all. I recently noticed that my LED battery status indicator (located on the lid) is constantly ON even after netbook was shut off (shut down). It is ON regardless if I connect or disconnect charger. The only difference is when I disconect charger, it becomes dimmer. When I connect it - it becomes more bright. I confirmed with my friend (who also has the same model) that his indicator is completely OFF if the netbook is shut down and charger is not connected. I'm using the same setup as beforeand cannot figure out why LED light is always on.

So before I made a post about some of my keys on my keyboard are not working, so I brought it to my local authorized Lenovo warranty service store. It turns out that I went theres for nothing since they don't deal with IDEALPAD. After that, they told me that I have to ship it, and I'm wondering if anyone got the link of where I could start this whole process. I mean its just  a little issue, some of my keys aren't working e.g T,Y, backspace, 4 , and 8.I just bought it brand new from office depot about 2 months ago and its happened before and it suddenly works back again, however this issue is coming back again and its the same keys that are not working.I dont really want to ship it back but if anyone know how I can fix it, that would be great.

Is it due to excessive charging? Please help..

Answer:Ideapad Y500 Battery Status Indicator Light Always ON

Hi KrishnaFT9,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

The battery indicator always on indicates that the battery has sufficient charge to run the computer and when the indicator turns red means that the battery needs to be recharged, this is the new type of indication and this is normal and there is no need to worry.

You can refer to this IWS country list for Z50-70.http://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/iwslookupideaThough Greece has IWS for this machine, but I can't be sure that your device will be repaired free of charged. Most countries may need you to present documents as proof of travelling to the country prior to repair.
