Preferred Solution: Webcam just stopped working for Y650 Windows 7

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Webcam just stopped working for Y650 Windows 7

press fn + esc and try to activate the camera, then install drivers.

Have you r-installed skype?

Does it do the same thing when booted in safe mode (F8)?

is the driver installed and working (in device manager)??

Please go to start>search>type device manager.
Are there any "unknown devices" with yellow triangles on them?
Is you driver there , listed, and working?

If your driver is missing, or there is a yellow triangle on it, you will need to update it.

what driver did you install? was it win 7, vista, or??????

im currently in university accomodation with free broadband internet use, this is good but it is restricted in the fact that not all ports are useable, torrents limewire etc are all blocked which is fine for me.

However i like to use msn and more specifically video chat. This worked fine in the first couple of weeks that i was here, however i tried again more recently and it seems it doesnt work for me. It does for other people in my accomodation block. When i try to enable my webcam it displays the image from it and says connecting, then live messanger just says it cannot connect, try again later.

I have reinstalled live messanger, tried using windows messanger (forgot how awful that was) and i have gone into networking services and enabled UPnP. I have tried with a number of contacts with no avail. I have also tried a new webcam which was no help, both webcams work on the pc, recording videos and taking pictures, but not on msn or live messanger.

Ive tried searchin google to no avail, im using xp so the thread on here about vista doesnt help me.

My copy of xp is fully updated, windows firewall is enabled and im using a NOD32 protection suite with IMON internet monitor included.

Sorry for the long post, just wanted to give as much detail as possible,
Does anyone have any ideas whats up?

my laptop specifcation here : ( [A300 - 1G5|] ) for any needed details ..

The problem simply is, the webcam stopped working for some reason, an error messeage says "Webcam driver open fail. Please restart camera or computer".

I noticed that whenever I put the computer in sleep mode I was getting on the icon tray a notification says "USB device unrecognized"... I wasnt aware what it was - thought it becasue of the USB mouse being plugged... but I think its related to the camera...

software is installed but camera is not working and cant enable it .. I did download the latest driver from toshiba site , but still not working ...

Currently my laptop runs Vista HP SP2 32-bit, Windows defender enabled, Windows Firewall Enabled, Windows UAC enabled, Kaspersky Ani-Virus 2009 Enabled. I only use Windows Live Messenger (which up to date I think , version : 14.0.8089.726) which i used camera with, I quite using face recognition long time ago and rarely use the webcam ... I didnt install or update any drivers and used to have the laptop running perfectly..

So what happened now ?!

Answer:Satellite A300-1G5: webcam stopped working - Webcam driver open fail

I have had a similar error message and could solve this by disabling the webcam software from startup.
In msconfig -> Start Up tab I have unchecked the Chicony webcam software.
This prevents it from automatic loading.
I don?t use MSN but Skype and the Chicony webcam software is always disabled (not executed) if Skype is running.

Maybe you should try this too.

Furthermore you could try this:
Go to device manager, mark the webcam (imaging devices ? USB video device) and deleted it from the device list.
Then reboot the notebook and wait until the webcam has been recognized again.

Then test it.

Hey I'm new here and I don't know much about computers and all. My Pavilion dv3 is only about a year old and my webcam was working perfectly fine until recently, it stopped working. It doesn't work on msn, skype, blogtv etc as those programs mentioned will crash. So I tried opening HP MediaSmart Webcam and it says it has stopped responding. Sometimes when the webcam DOES work, it will only work for a couple of seconds before the entire computer crashes. I don't know what the problem is and I tried to reinstall HP Mediasmart. The installation won't even start.
I did a full virus scan and there's nothing wrong with it. I'm at loss and I don't know what to do. Help?

Answer:Webcam Stopped Working

Go to Start, type in Device Manager. Open it. Under Imaging Devices, the camera should be there. Right click on it, then choose Uninstall. Wait. Restart the computer. Problem solved!

Answer:webcam stopped working?

There might just be something wrong with your webcam.
First off, be sure to have the latest drivers installed, then try it on the software provided together with the driver (some webcam models are known to be conflicting with Skype, just a thought).

If nothing here helps, I'm afraid there's something wrong with the webcam itself or the cables connecting it with the mobo.

Keep me posted, good luck!

Wasn't sure whether to put this under software or hardware?

The webcam suddenly stopped working on my W7 PC but still works on my W8 laptop.

It's an MS VX 5000 lifecam

When I plug it in it it's recognized but the drivers won't install (I've downloaded the drivers.exe from MS) and when I click on the lifecam.exe on the short cut I get a message, "There is no camera connected to this computer".

In device manager there's the small exclamation mark and when I try to update the drivers I'm told that I have the latest ones.

Any help would be much appreciated,

I have LOVED my Lenovo ideapad Y650. However, yesterday it stopped charging the battery. I was sitting there typing when all of a sudden windows started acting like it wasn't plugged in anymore. I pulled the plug out and it made the normal *beep* that it does when you plug/uplug it. THe LED on the case also changed indicating it had been plugged and unplugged. On windows though it still indicated it was running off battery and my battery was draining. I then tried an alternated power adapter and battery with the same result. Hardware indicated it was charging, software indicating it wasnt charging and actual battery not taking the charge. I found that if I turn the system all the way off, take the battery out turn it on just plugged in it will run fine and recognize being plugged in. If I then reinsert the battery it will charge the battery for a while but then start to malfunction again.  PLEASE HELP. I am in school and cannot afford another laptop. My life is on this thing

My webcam would suddenly stop working. The computer would not detect it or would be an unknown device. Nothing would resolve it, not restart, not troubleshoot, not remote tech support. I even had an open ticket. Then it would magically reappear.

This is what I noticed and tested it on my pc. If the computer goes to sleep, either from inactivity or you putting it to sleep, the camera does not wake up with your PC. Restarting does not help. The only thing that helped was to SHUT DOWN wait 10-15 seconds and power up. I no longer put my computer to sleep and if it goes to sleep and I have to use the webcam, I SHUT DOWN and wait and power up and everything is fine.

I just signed up to share, hopefully it will help other people. I was soooo frustrated and noticed so many websites with posts with the same problem as mine, but nobody posted a solution. Maybe they just forgot in their excitement of getting the camera working again.

I have a gateway NV55s24u, my webcam was working fine, then all of a sudden when I click on my webcam it says "No webcam detected, try plugging one in, or if you are using an integrated camera, try turning it on" I noticed when I went into device manager that my imaging device (lexmark x422) has yellow triangle symbol with an "!" right in the middle. When I click on the device under the general tab it says "this device can not start, (code 10). Is this related to my webcam? If so how can i fix this error? I have gone to many different websites trying to fix this problem. WHAT SHOULD I DO, HELP PLEASE!!!!

Answer:Internal webcam stopped working!!!

lexmark x422 refers to a Lexmark printer/scanner, not a webcam. Try re-installing the Lexmark drivers for that device.

If your webcam is not listed in DeviceManager, and if the Lexmark X422 is the only device with an error symbol, it means the webcam itself is faulty or broken. Out-of-warranty repair on laptops is very expensive, you can avoid that by buying an external webcam.

I purchased a Toshiba Satellite P855-S5200 laptop (just over a month ago) that runs Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. I have used the webcam frequently for Skype and recording videos. Today when I tried making a video call, I got an error message from Skype that no camera was detected. I checked in Device Manager and the camera was not listed there. I've tried doing a system restore back to when I know the camera was working. That did not work. What could have caused this problem? What can I do to resolve it?

Answer:Built-in webcam has stopped working

Sounds like your web cam went bad. If you have already tried a system restore point. I doubt downloading drivers would solve the problem. Your best bet would be to have it service. You are still under warranty.

All signs are that everything is working but when I open the volume screen it says that there is no audio device.

The same with the webcam - all looks ok but when opening dell webcam manager i get "no webcam device.

Windows media player does play avis/wmvs/dvds etc but without sound - audio cd's don't play they come up with "no sound device installed"!

Sounds like the hardware is duff?

Any help?

Have you checked the device manager? If it shows sound card driver with yellow mark delete it and install the driver again and make sure your sound card is enabled in windows configuration.

I've had this laptop for over a year with no problems. Just recently, the webcam decided to stop working, giving me a grey box as the picture in the camera app for windows 8 as well as skype or any other webcam software.
The camera has worked fine in the past with the windows 8 drivers (those are the recommended anyway), the webcam is detected in the device manager under imaging devices and is it enabled in the BIOS in the I/O settings.
Does anyone have a solution to this? Or do I have to call support?

I'm having some trouble with the integrated webcam on my T430 that I bought last August. Windows doesn't seem to be recognizing that I have a webcam installed, as the only choice for video in skype is the virtual webcam. Additionally, the integrated webcam doesn't show up in the Windows Device Manager under Imaging Devices, only the virtual camera does.  I had a similar problem earlier in the year, and my school's tech support managed to fix it by updating/reinstalling some software, but I'm not exactly sure what they did. It happened suddenly - one day it was working, closed my laptop when I was done with it, and the next time I opened it up, it wasn't working anymore. Things I've tried are:Restarting the computerInstalling the drivers from here (not uninstalling than installing, can't seem to find where to uninstall the driver first)Pressing Fn + F6 - only audio options come upNormally I would just take it to my school's tech support since they're knowledgable and they'll repair anything for free, but I'm on the other side of the country for the summer, so that isn't really an option.

I have an advent roma 3000 laptop with built in webcam. I've only had in about 2 months, refirbed from PC World.

Anyway, the web cam has worked fine this whole time on things like MSN and Skype, I didnt have to install it; it took care of everything during the set up process.

Today it stopped working It allows to start a video call on MSN but it is just black. When I run the Youcam software (that came with it), it says video detected but again just black. I thought it could be because the 30 day trial of this ran out? (I dont use the software itself because I only use cam on MSN). I uninstalled that and tried both yawcam and VLC media as people advised these would help.. no job. I reinstalled the YouCam software it worked for a few minutes but then nothing.

When i video call on MSN, the light on the webcam comes on as if it is sending and people on the other end can hear my sound, but no picture!

I will literally marry the person that can help

I have a tower system with two extra usb ports on the front.Up until today my webcam has always worked in one of them. Not so today, wouldn't work in the usual one, so I moved it to the next one and it worked perfectly. Obviously I assumed that first port was kaput but that's not the case....other things plugged into it all work as they should. So in short...used to work in one....not any more, but works in the one next door...but original port ok. Can anyone help?

Answer:Webcam stopped working in usb port

USBs are funny creatures. First thing I'd try is to shut down PC then connect the webcam to the port giving trouble. Reboot and see what happens.
Legacy drivers do corrupt at times even more so if you don't use the safely remove wizard if showing in the notification area even if the peripheral is hot plug and play.
This is quite a small and powerful program that you can use for USB problems but I advise caution and to read the help files. Please use at your own risk.

Hello. I've been using an 8 gig memory stick and webcam in the front 2 usbs on my pc with xp on it. The webcam has worked for about 4 years with no problems and the memory stick usb has worked for 3 months perfectly fine. Then the webcam stopped working. I was getting a message saying no webcam present. It wouldn't work on msn or if I opened the make video software it didn't see a webcam there either. Its like its simply not plugged in but it is. I then tried to access my memory stick and got the message usb device not recognized. So I plugged a game pad in and that worked fine. I plugged the memory stick in the back usbs and it still didnt' work. I read a forum and used software to delete the usb drivers but that didn't get it working either. I looked in hardware manager. The webcam is shown as working correctly but there is no sign of any usb there. The webcam doesn't work though so don't know why device manager says its working. Can anyone suggest any other way to fix this problem.

Answer:Memory stick and webcam stopped working in usb

I read a forum and used software to delete the USB drivers but that didn't get it working either.
Did you do it correctly? You must Shutdown the computer after uninstalling the USB drivers NOT restart.

The Dell XPS 2720 is an all-in-one with an integrated webcam. Skype worked perfectly on Win 7 but since I upgraded to Win 10 I can no longer make video calls. To eliminate Skype as the source of the problem, I tried a third party product ( as well as the Win 10 inbuilt Camera App. Both exhibited the same behaviour as Skype, i.e. the webcam light came on but no image appeared on the display screen, it remained dark.

In an effort to fix the problem I tried the following:

1. Logged onto the Dell site and updated the drivers. Five were installed but it had no effect.

2. Ran the Win 10 Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter. No webcam issues were reported.

3. Using the Control Panel Device Manager, expanded the list of Imaging Devices, clicked on Integrated Webcam listed there, uninstalled it, and rebooted the machine. That had no effect.

4. Uninstalled Skype and reinstalled the latest version in a last ditch attempt to fix the problem, which needless to say didn't work.

That's exhausted my ideas. Would very much appreciate your help.

What do you think about reinstalling the webcam software? Maybe this will work?

Please check the Toshiba driver download page: > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

Just search for your notebook model and available downloads. If you find it, download newest Camera Assistant Software but before you install it, remove the old version first and restart your computer.

Face recognition was working fine up until today but this also has stopped working. I have checked all the settings and everything to my (admittedly limited) knowledge seems to be as it should be.
I have tried a system restore and this has made no difference.

Can anyone help?
Thank you.

Answer:Satellite C660D-14W - webcam stopped working

Start web camera application and there you will find option ?Effect?. Open it and go to third tab called ?Screen Cover? and be sure it is set to OFF.
This should remove this flower that you see.

Restart you notebook and check webcam application again.

Please send some feedback.

Hi everyone ! My HP TrueVision HD webcam stopped working suddenly when I tried to activate it during a Skype session.  Actually, when I start a videocall either on Facebook or on Skype the webcam light at the top of my laptop turns on, but the person I'm talking to can't see my video any longer. The audio's working perfectly.  I've already downloaded Skype updates, but it didn't solve my problem. The webcam just worked when I installed a program called ManyCam.  I do thank anyone who can really help me, please. Kindly, Marcelo Almeida

I have a plantronics headset/mic
and it is wonderful. (it uses the jack).
Then I installed a lifecam 1000 USB... the mic seems to have over-written my headset mic.
I have tried everything to get the headset mic to work.

I have uninstalled the lifecam software still no luck.
Even in sound recorder I can't record anything.

I have a feeling that my comptuer is looking for the mic in the USB port.. and I don't know how to tell it to look for the jack.

Win xp sp2
onboard sound card (i know its the suxors) Using realtek drivers. (already updated and re-installed)

i've checked the mic in sound control and it should be activated.... but it's not.

Does anyone here have any ideas? and if you do.> thank you thank you thank you!

Webcam always worked fine (mostly using Skype). Now Skype says it can't find a webcam. When I try to run the HP Mediasmart software it can't see the webcam either.
I've tried downloading new software from (Cyberlink youcam) but when I try to install this it just hangs and never completes - probably bc I've seen something on the cyberlink site that says it will not install successfully if there is no webcam.

The webcam of my T130 stopped working.
When windows start, there is a message saing the camera is not found.
At the same time, Windows tries to install a driver for an "unknown" usb device and... failed.
If I go to the device manager, I can see this unknown device (marked as unknown)

I tried to remove it and refresh the devices, windows tried again to install the driver.
I tried to remove the whole usb stack and got the same result: everything reinstalled properly but still an unknown usb device

I tried to remove the webcam driver then got a fresh copy on Toshiba website and reinstalled it... Without any success.

Then, to eliminate a BIOS or hardware problem, I've booted a Linux system and there, the webcam works.

The webcam used to work few weeks ago. Maybe a Windows update is responsible of that.

Any idea?

Thanks in advance

Answer:Webcam stopped working on my Satellite T130

Something has muddled up the webcam software/driver.
The unknown USB device seems to be the webcam since the webcam is connected to the USB controller.
Usually new webcam driver installation should solve this therefore it?s really strange that you could not solve this installing the webcam software.

Maybe you should clean the OS and registry using the CCLeaner (freeware)
Would recommend this workaround:
- First of all uninstall the webcam software
- Then clean the OS and registry using the CCleaner
- Now reboot the notebook
- After that install the webcam software which you have downloaded from the Toshiba European driver page. By the way ? would recommend testing the webcam driver released for Sat T230. This is a newer driver version

Hello, I have a problem with my Thinkpad T440s running Windows 8.1. My webcam worked perfectly without any problems. Then suddenly without changing _anything_ it stopped working. I accessed the video settings in Skype where you usually see the webcam picture. The status LED turned green as usual but no image was shown and the computer froze (*) so that I had to turn the Computer of by holding the power button. After rebooting, the webcam does not work anymore. It is still detected and shown in the device manager. If I uninstall it there then it is detected after rebooting and the standard Microsoft driver is installed. If I want to access the cam with any programme, then the programme will freeze or show some sort of waiting-message. The status LED does not turn on and often no error is shown. Skype sometimes gives me a "your cam might be used by another program" message after waiting and watching this rotating circle for ages. I have tried any combination of uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, using old drivers, using new drivers, rebooting, playing around with the lenovo settings app and the "settings dependency package" etc. I should note that I haven't been able to really use the camera section of the app. It just shows an empty screen and the app crashes. I have even tried to boot from a Ubuntu CD and the problem is similar. The cam is detected but no software is able to show a picture or to even activate the status LED. It seems like there is a ha... I?ve had my laptop for several months and all was well until yesterday when the internal mic stopped working then today I have come to use the webcam and it is saying that it has failed and needs to be restarted (I have done this multiple times).

I then endeavoured to download the latest driver which I have on my pc. I run the file but nothing happen afterward i.e. no setup wizard nothing.
Am I doing something wrong, do I have to delete the existing application?

What is wrong here?

Answer:Webcam and internal mic has stopped working on Satellite C660-1D7

The webcam should be listed under the point: Imaging Devices
There you should see USB Video device.
Can you see this?

If can see this, then uninstall the driver in device manager.
Then go to control panel -> software and uninstall the webcam software.
Then clean the OS and registry using the CCleaner.
After that reboot the notebook and download the latest webcam software from Toshiba driver page.
Install the webcam software and reboot the notebook.

After the notebook has booted up, start the webcam software and check if the webcam can be used.

I upgraded from Win Vista to Win 7, and my webcam stopped working.

Because the driver for Win7 is unavailable, the link is down.

Any suggestions?

For me it sounds like you have not installed the right webcam software and therefore you cannot get the webcam working with installed Win 7.

What Win7 version did you install? 32bit or 64bit?
Toshiba European driver page provides the webcam software for Win 7 32bit for Satellite L300?
It?s version

I found it choosing: Notebook ? Satellite ? satellite L300 ? webcam driver
In such case you will get listed all webcam drivers for L300 series

So just yesterday I was video chatting with someone on my Toshiba laptop -- model: Satellite U405D-S2874 -- and then today I went on Skype and it won???t let me video chat! So I went to the camera assistant software and it says "Webcam driver open failed. Please restart Camera or Computer"....I don't know what to do.

I looked stuff up online and they all mentioned reinstalling the driver but I???m not that good with technology so I don't know what that means/where to find it. But I also have a feeling that it isn't the problem!!
Please help!!!

Answer:Webcam stopped working on my Satellite U405D-S2874

It?s very easy;
Message says that you have to restart the camera or computer.

You should reboot/restart the unit and should check if the webcam would functions.
If this would not be the case it?s recommended to reinstall the driver/webcam software.

The unit seems to belong to Toshiba US series and therefore you should visit the Toshiba US page in order to download the Chicony webcam software.

After webcam software download, remove the installed software from the system.
This can be done in control panel -> programs & features
Uninstall the Chicony software, clean the OS using CCleaner (free tool, google for that) reboot the unit and install the downloaded software again.

I bought a G555 and after one week the camera did not work.  The camera was not in Device Manager and the Veriface software said "no camera".I found advice to press fn+esc to switch on the camera - this did not work.I found advice to reinstall the driver.I got the driver for my model and operating system from the Lenovo website here: my model/system (G555, Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit), the driver file was IN1CAM30WW5.exe  I installed the driver but got an error after the installation:"no matched device driver" I looked on the recovery drive D:\drivers\camera and ran setup.exe and this gave an error at the end of setup:"the usb video device has not found" Finally I found the solution for me anyway: I re-started Windows in safe mode by holding F8 during startup, and tried installing the driver I got from the Lenovo website again - I right-clicked the exe and chose run as administrator from the list.Installing in safe mode WORKED!!!When I rebooted as normal, the camera worked again and in Device Manager, I now see Lenovo EasyCamera whereas before there was no camera there. Regards Michael

I have done some research and there may be a compatibility problem with Vista.

Anybody eles have the same problem or can help?

What webcam do you mean?
Do you mean the internal Chicony webcam or an external 3rd party webcam?

The internal Chicony webcam is fully compatible with the Vista OS and the driver/software should install properly!

Try to clean the OS using CCLeaner after you have removed the webcam software from the system.
After new reboot, download the Chicony webcam software again from the Toshiba European driver page and try to install it again.

Windows xp sp2, logitec webcam c250.

Installed according to directions on logitec (ran CD, connected hardware when prompted). Worked fine. Can see self in the logitec video screen, take pics, etc.
Chose not to use the headseat that came with the webcam as it had a mic built in to the camera and I only had one place to connect the head set would have pre-empted my speakers.

Downloaded and installed skype and ran through their series of video and voice tests. All was fine. Placed several calls...good. Also installed LogMeIn free version so I could support this set up after I left home for a business trip as my Mom is not all that savvy.

Two days after I got it all working, the Mic no longer works. When I run the test in Skype with the echo service, I can hear the recording, but it shows at the top the mic volume is too low and sure enough, it does not play back the messages I leave for the test.

I have found a post on here (several in fact) about checking certain skype settings and will do that when I get home tonight. Meanwhile I had my Mom move the camera from the USB port to another one thinking it was maybe a port gone bad. No such luck.

I also wondered if it could be caused by the install of logmein? It doesn't work whether I'm remoted in or not so it's not the amount of traffic causing the issue, it would almost be like some kind of interupt conflict but a) I thought that was pretty much a thing of the past and b) I wouldn't e... Since upgrading Vista Home Premium to Vista Ultimate the integrated webcam has not worked. I've re-installed the Camera software whch proceeds to the point of updating driver software. The process fails with the messages "Windows encountered a problem install the driver software for your device". "Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it. Chicony USB 2.0 Camera". "The driver installation file for this device is missing a necessary entry. This may be because the INF was written for Windows 95 or later. Contact your hardware vendor".

The Toshiba download site does not contain drivers for this device. only the Camera Assistant Software. The Chicony Electronics site contains some drivers for cameras, but doesn't describe the cameras and refers to model numbers which don't tally with the Toshiba references. I tried the latest model, but the driver installation completed with no termination messages and the camera still didn't work. Running the installation a second time recognised that something had been installed and proceeded to remove it, again no completion messages. A real class act!

Can anyone suggest where I might find a solution?

Answer:Satellite P200 - Webcam stopped working after Vista upgrade

That?s the driver *and* software!!! This is the complete package that you need for the webcam!!!

Before you install the latest software you should remove the old one firstly. Then restart your notebook and use CCleaner to clean up your registry and Windows. One restart more and you can install the latest drivers from the Toshiba website.

Check this!!!

Hello Toshiba People,

I have been using Satellite A665-14F PSAW3E over 2 years and I didn't really have any problem with my web camera till today. I suddenly realized (when I entered a website requiring webcam) that my webcam is not working. (It has been working perfectly). My laptop stopped seeing the built-in webcam.

First I checked the "device manager" to find and check the driver of it but I couldn't find the webcam. Actually I don't know under which category in the device manager I am supposed to see it. After that, I uninstalled the Toshiba Webcam Application from the "add/remove program" thing of Windows. I found the driver+application package of the webcam of my laptop from the European website of Toshiba and installed it. It asked me to reboot both after the uninstallation and installation. I did both times. It is still not fixed. Plus, now the blue light right next to the webcam (that is supposed to be turned on when the webcam is active) is constantly turned on, which is really annoying...

The only other detail that I can give you guys is that I realized that I have one "Unknown device" with a yellow triangle error icon on it under the category of "Universal Serial Bus controllers". Could it be related with my problem, like if the webcam is also USB related hardware? Cause I believe this unknown driver showed up in the same day with my webcam problem.

Thanks in advance to anyone for his/her time. (I use win7-64... Read more

Answer:Satellite A665-14F - Built-in Webcam suddenly stopped working

>The only other detail that I can give you guys is that I realized that I have one "Unknown device" with a yellow triangle error icon on it under the category of "Universal Serial Bus controllers".

I assume this is the internal webcam.
The webcam module is connected to the USB controller on the motherboard and the yellow exclamation mark means that webcam software was not installed properly.

In your case I recommend firstly:
1) Uninstall the webcam software again
2) Delete the unknown device from Universal Serial Bus controllers in device manager (mark it and press del )
3) Install CCLeaner tool can clean the registry and system
4) Reboot the notebook and install the webcam software once again.

Good luck

Hi All, I am hoping to get some help here. I have seen that other peopel had similar issues but no satisfactory solution which applied. So here we go again . I bought a U350 with Windows 7 home basic 32 Bit.It came with a Bison/Lenovo Webcam which worked fine when I bought it. I normally use the Camera with Skype. Yesterday while using skype I noticed that the camera had gone, dissappeared. It does not show when I hit FN + ESC. I reinstalled Power Manager, still same issue. It does not show in the Device Manager at all. The Imaging Devices are gone. When I tried adding a new Imaging Device, and added Manually and pointed to the Downloaded driver, the driver install starts. Then suddenly it stops with a warning saying: "No device as listed in setup.ini is found on this machine". I can not deinstall anything, as I see nothing in device manager. I can not install any drivers as the Hardware seems to be undetectable. My wild guess is that the Webcam has stopped working or is disconnected from the Mainboard. But maybe you got any othere clues what this could be ? Does non detection by the device manager mean that the Hardware is broken ? Many thanks!AJ

Hi everyone, I've had the yoga 2 pro for about a year now - took a little bit of fiddling to get it working just right (clean OEM win 8.1 install and installing drivers in the right order etc) but I had it working just perfect then....About a week ago the webcam stopped working during a skype call. I tried reinstalling the drivers etc and messed around for 2 days trying to get it working again. The LED light comes on when it's engaged and it says it's present and working in device manager but I get no picture on skype or any other program. I reinstalled windows 8.1 from scratch in the hope that this would solve it but same issue. So I assumed it was a hardware fault and thought stuff it! But then last night I installed Windows 7 32 bit on VMWare to run some of the older 32 bit programs and the webcam works perfectly within this virtual OS!! So it doesn't seem to be a hardware problem after all.I've tried everything - installing the bison & Liteon drivers from the Lenovo website, installing the generic win 8 drivers etc but NOTHING WORKS!!Can  you help? I just want to get this thing working again!!THANKS!

I have a Toshiba Satellite L300 with a built in 2.0 USB camera and a windows 7 operating system, the camera suddenly stopped working since about 2-3 weeks ago with unknown reason!

I already tried system restore, un-installing and re-installing the camera driver, preformed a full scan by kaspersky internet antivirus 2012 (up to date), and I also ran a complete system and drivers troubleshooting ... and the problem still exists ...

When I use the windows live movie maker it gives me an error saying: can?t record audio or video from the selected device. Make sure that the device you're trying to use is installed properly and not currently in use by another program.

The microphone works well on skype but the camera doesn't open!
Please tell me how to fix it, what am I missing?

Answer:Satellite L300 - Built In webcam suddenly stopped working

> I already tried system restore

Did you recover the unit using Recovery disk from Toshiba?
In such case the cam should work?

Otherwise I would say it?s hardware related issue.

Some users here in the forum reported an webcam issue and the reason for that was an lose connection between the cam module and motherboard.
The webcam is connected to an USB controller on the motherboard.
If the connection does not exist, the webcam would not appear in device manager? does it appear in your case? Check this?

Hi all,

after three days of reading through forums and trying out different things, I finally decided to post a thread myself, as none of the posted solutions worked for me.

My problem:
My webcam suddenly frooze while using it with skype. That happened sometimes before alreday. Usually it works again after clsong the video connection and starting it again. This time after clsoing my video connection, the button for video calling disappeared and I got a message at the bottom right corner of my screen that I have a USB connection problem. At the same time, I was updating windows vista.

- Can't find an imaging device in device manager any more. However, one USB port is unidentified. It says no drivers are uploaded for this product, but it also says that this device is wirking correctly (I'm not sure whether this has anything to do with the problem).
- Several tries of installing different camera drivers always failed.
- System restore to a point before I did the vista update failed.
- However, when using programms like Driver Max to identify the hardware, a webcam is found, but no specifications are given.
- I had this problem before when I bought the notebook ~2 years ago. But then, it could be fixed by installing the latest drivers.
- The energy settings I'm using on my notebook do not allow USB ports to go to sleep mode in order to save energy.... Read more

Out of nowhere, it just stopped working. When I try to run the program I get a message saying it's been removed or failed =/
When I went to the Device Manager, the "Imaging Devices" is gone :(

I tried finding the driver on the Toshiba website, but Imaging Devices is not a searchable option!

Recently bought machine. Windows  10. Camera was working just fine. Been through all the steps the phone support folks are telling me. Now they say do a Factory reset (One-Step Recover).  No guarantee this will work. If not, will have to be without machine for 10 days to repair in Germany - SO frustrating..... Is there no other way? SUCH A PAIN!! Thanks,SBV

I've owned this laptop for quite a while and had been using Webcam Central to control the Integrated Webcam on my Alienware M17x R4.   I never had any issues using Windows 7, 8, 8.1, or even Windows 10 until my system updated on 8/20/2016 with a scheduled Windows 10 update.
After the windows 10 update my system restarted and the next time I went to use my webcam I noticed that I couldn't control the pan / zoom / or tilt or alter any of the settings in webcam central.  If I attempt to change anything it automatically changes back instantly.  For example of I move the slider to zoom, or attempt to change the pan, it auto goes back to where it was and will not allow me to change the settings.
I also notice that my mouse pointer flickers over the webcam central GUI, meaning, there seems to be some issue with the GUI after the windows 10 update, I assume is also whats causing the settings not to be changed.
I have tried uninstalling both the drivers and software and reinstalling to no avail, same problem is present after reinstallation of both drivers and the webcam central software.
Wondering if anyone else has run into this and whether there was some type of resolution.
I was able to get the pan / zoom / tilt working with 3rd party webcam software, however I would prefer to go back to using webcam central.

this wass also a reply to another thread posted by romeshomey, link bellow:
---------My laptop model is Inspiron 17R 5720 and Im having the exact same problem after the Microsoft Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607: August 31, 2016 - KB3176938, done Sep 4th. I was also already running Win10 and it didnt mess with Webcam Central - till yesterday when I gave the reboot necessary to install the update files.Pan/Zoom/Position Arrows show as available to be used but if you try to use then, nothing happens and back to full zoom. Only thing it allows me to do is to change to Face Tracking.I called Dell Suport Center and for about 2 hours I ran diagnostics and tried possible solutions with the tech assistant but he wasnt very helpfull at all. All diagnostics came back with positive/OK/passed results and they offered me a paid support to fix the problem. Not exactly a good solution, is it?It was clear though MS updates messed up with the webcam driver - I checked myself at Devices/Imaging there was an update for the driver done exactly when MS updates were done. Unfortunatelly, the rollback option wasnt available. For that matter, I decided to uninstall the whole Windows KB3176938 and CAPICOM (what ever that is) updates done using Control Panel/Updates but no-go. Next step was to google for that problem which leaded me to other Dell Forum threads pointing to reinstall Webcam Central which also didnt work at all then I bumped into your threa... Read more

I'm running Win7 64bit. I downloaded and installed the Realtek USB 2.0 driver from Lenovo. It is the 64bit version. I installed and restarted, but I'm still getting an "Unknown Device" yellow message under the Device Manager. I tried uninstalling from Device Manager and installing the driver. Still, nothing. Has anyone got this to work on Win7 64bit with a Y650? I'm running off of a clean install.

Answer:Y650 SD Card Reader not working

try search realtek drivers on realtek page.

When I tried using the keyboard function keys in my new Y650 they did not work. the message i got for one of them- f1 for sleep was that the functions were not comapitible with Windows vista. How is that possible when the system was loaded with Vista? and how do i resolve  this? I have registered for the Windows 7 upgrade. will the function keys work with windows 7. another question- Why is the latest model loaded with Windows Vista OS when all of the other older models have Windows 7?

Answer:New Y650- Function keys not working

install power management from here - download page for y650 -if it's already installed, un-install it, restart your computer, re-install it ( make sure "utility" checked )fn keys are working on windows 7 and vista by the way, you just need to update your drivers and applications such as power management, slidenav/slidebar, one key theater, one key recover etc.. download page y650 doesn't include one key recover for windows 7, you can install it below :32 bit windows 7 : bti windows 7 : another answer it's possible to buy y650 with windows7 but you need to find it and it should be available for sale for your country.

So on the right side of the Y650 touchpad there is a vertical dashed orange line, when you move your finger up and down the white space on the right, it should scroll. And it was, but all of a sudden when I rebooted my laptop it stoped scrolling. The settings have remained unchanged. Any recommendations? Bryant

I was wondering if anyone could help me?  I have been having a lot of issues with my computer and using the internet. I keep getting messages such as ‘windows explorer has stopped working ‘and ‘Host process for windows services stopped working’. I haven’t been able to stream videos (with the exception of youtube),  download certain programs and browsing sites is slow.  I remember my computer being fine until a window update but I don’t know if that’s a coincidence or not.  I have tired uninstalling windows explorer and system restore to no avail.
I would really appreciate any help or advice.

I use a Lenovo Ideapad Y650, machine type 4185. I run Windows Vista, 64 bit.  Spoiler (Highlight to read)I don't know if this is relevant, but here it is...Some time ago, the hinges snapped and frayed the webcam cord, causing it to smoke and leading me to detaching the monitor. It worked just fine using an external monitor, but the webcam obviously was unusable, and the wireless stopped working for some reason. Ethernet connection worked. Anyway, after some troubles I had recently with the display trying to default back to the absent monitor (which I fixed by reattaching the old monitor by only a cord), the sound suddenly stopped working.I don't know if this is relevant, but here it is...Some time ago, the hinges snapped and frayed the webcam cord, causing it to smoke and leading me to detaching the monitor. I have a Dell Inspiron one 2305 all in one PC. Came with Win 7, I updated to Windows 10 about a year ago. First few month every thing was great! every thing worked fine. Then Cortana stopped working after a while I can no t search for anything. If you try to type a question it only allow you to type in Two letter and it quits on you. I tried the search trouble shooter but it could not Identify the Problem.
Second thing, MY Optical disk reader stopped after a update Oct 30 2016, I tried the trouble shooter same thing, I tried the Dell fix it, it said update the driver, went to do that that it said i have the lastest drivers, and it found no problem with my disk r/w. I am scared to try and reload win 10 online, because i have no disk reader to load win 7 if there a problem, reloading win 10, I will be totally shut out if a problem accords. Does any one have a solution to any of these problems? Help Please

Answer:Windows 10 Optical disk drive stopped and Cortana stopped working

Open Device Manager > DVD/CD-ROM drives > Right Click > Update drivers.
Else you may Uninstall the driver, use Scan for hardware changes and install fresh latest drivers.
If you familiar with BIOS settings, enter BIOS and select the Load Optial Defaults setting to restore defaults.
Perhaps something here will help you: Optical Disk Drive is not recognized in Microsoft Windows or other applications | Dell US

Hey, Fellas, I'm back.
Lately when I've tried looking at different folders and files on my hard drives I keep getting "Windows Explorer has stopped working and will restart." It's driving me nuts, I can barely do anything.
Also, same thing with Internet Explorer...I'm getting real sick of Vista's shoddiness..

Answer:Windows Explorer Stopped Working, Internet Explorer Stopped Working, what DOES work?
