Fan & heatsink cleaning Lenovo 3000 and Y410 models - TIP

Question: Fan & heatsink cleaning Lenovo 3000 and Y410 models - TIP

If you find that your fan is running more often or at higher speeds than it used to, or your system is running warmer than it used to, it could be a sign that the fan and heat sink could be clogged with dust or lint. As air is drawn in from the bottom on these systems and then blow through the fins of heat sink before exiting on the left side of the system, just or lint may be drawn in more frequently if the system is frequently operated on a bed, blanket or other cloth surface, or in a dusty environment. If your system is out of warranty and might be running warmer than normal as described above, you might clean the fan and heat sink to lower system fan speeds and operating temperature. First, remove AC and battery and turn system over. Locate the fan cover. Remove the 2 screws and lift up the cover from the edge. Next, remove the 3 screws marked by the arrows to remove the fan - carefully locate and uplug the fan connector from the system board as you lift it out. After removing the fan, it should look like this... Using a can of compressed air, blow out the area, blow the dust out of the fan. Clean out the heat sink fins by blowing air through the outside vents so that the dust is blow back toward the the fan locations. Make sure the fins are all free from lint, fibers and dust. After all dust has been cleared out, carefully reinstall the fan and 3 mounting screws. A magnetic screwdriver can make this operation easier. Don't forget to plug the fan back in. Reinstall the outside cover and screws. Reinstall battery and AC and power up the system.

Preferred Solution: Fan & heatsink cleaning Lenovo 3000 and Y410 models - TIP

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Question: Lenovo 3000 Y410

I am having troubles trying to install the video driver downloaded from the website. It begins the install process then says that it cannot find an nvidia product for the driver. Am I using the correct driver, because it is the one downloaded from lenovo site.Any help would be appreciated. The reason I am trying to get the driver is when I try to watch a flash video in full screen mode all I get is a blank screen

Answer:Lenovo 3000 Y410

It's not a new issue about non-fullscreening video.Just right-click on the video and brouse menu for the point "use hardware acceleration". Uncheck it and try again watching the video.Modified nvidia&ati drivers for mobile devices could be found here, but they are non-official.Message Edited by skripatch on 03-21-2008 10:43 AM

Question: lenovo 3000 Y410

I have just bought an new lenovo 3000 Y410 note book. All is well, apart from one annoying problem. As long as i type out letters or emails slowly i am okay. However, If i type any where my normal speed (i am not a fast typer!!) the keyboard places the letter at the front or the middle of the sentence. Does any any one know: 1. The cause of this?2. More importantly, the solution? Many thanks Danny

Answer:lenovo 3000 Y410

Hi Danny, welcome to the forum. That used to happen to me alot, for some unexplained reason, I would continue writing somewhere else as where I should have been. I eventually found the answer; I was hitting / brushing and therefore tapping the touchpad with a finger or thumb when typing, this caused the cursor to move to that point, (ie mouse click at that point). I solved it by turing the touchpad off on my ThinkPad. As you don't have a trackpoint as alternative, I would suggest looking into Control Panel, Mouse and see if you can adjust the sensitivity or tapping area of the touchpad. (or naturally turn the feature off)

Answer:Lenovo 3000 Y410

rodcz, welcome to the forum,

do you mean that the desktop on the display has rotated 90° so you have to lay your head sideways?
If this is the case try using the key combination Ctrl+Alt+?  [arrow up], hopefully this will work. (try the combination with the other arrow keys if it doesn't work straight away).Message Edited by andyP on 06-19-2008 09:53 PM

Hi Guys,My Lenovo 3000 Y410 has completely stopped working yesterday. I have no idea what to do next. It was purchased exactly 6 months ago. I removed the battery and placed it back again correctly, still wouldn?t start. Removed the battery and plugged in the AC adaptor and tried starting again. Still nothing. No beep sound, not even the CPU fan has started. Then I left my laptop plugged in and closed for the whole night. This morning when I saw the partially lit "Hard Disk  Drive in Use" blue indicator flickering, I hit the power button, while the laptop is plugged in and this time it started, but my mouse pad did not work, eventually after about 50 seconds, it died again. I was just able to log in open my documents. (Was thinking about taking some files out while it started.)There were a few water droplets (Kind of like precipitated on my screen when I opened it this morning.) I have no idea how this can happen since this is the first time I?m seeing water droplets on my screen in a well air-conditioned, and humidity controlled environment. I was wondering if the battery could leak because there were a few drops near that too. Or, is the battery a Dry cell that it cannot leak?I?m completely lost here. Please guide me what I should do next? I was quiet happy with my Lenovo till now and also convinced a few of my friends to get it since I had it, but now my situation is that I want to get at least my data. If I remove the hard disk... Or, will this void my Warranty? My laptop is only 6 months old.Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.RegardsCedrick

I bought a new Lenovo 3000 Y410 laptop a few weeks ago and it seems to have worked ok until today.A few hours ago the screen locked up and I had to turn the machine off and on again to continue using it.5 minutes ago, the screen went really dim, although the laptop continued working. I managed to restart the machine and the screen is back to normal now, but I'm worried. Any help much appreciated.

Answer:Lenovo Y410 3000 problems

I would watch this, and note if it re-occurs the same way.

This could have been a software glitch, with some of the power management not turning the backlight of the LCD back on.

I've had this laptop about two weeks - I just noticed that it I can hear the hard drive grinding when it boots and sometimes when I install or uninstall usb devices... I don't remember hearing this when I first purchased it nor do I hear it on other laptops.  This morning it froze and I have no idea why - had to hold the power button to shut it down and bring it back up in safe mode.  Should I worry about this machine?  I still have time to return it if necessary.

Answer:Is this normal? Lenovo 3000 Y410

Well, alarm can be performed after you've made a bb-scan by MHDD.It shows amount of bb (Bad Blocks) on your HDD.I don't know whether bb go under warranty, you'd check support for that. Anyway, if found any, backup your data - crash might be knockign at your door. And by the way - what do you mean under "grinding"?t may be just a routine SWAP-file/registry/system-dll   reads/writes during work. In that case you might need some defragmentation.Message Edited by skripatch on 05-15-2008 11:55 AM

Hi All, I am new in here. I have lenovo 3000 Y410. i have downgrade my lenovo from vista to xp. i added new 1GB RAM crossair so now my lenovo have 2GB RAM because sometime my lenovo could not hibernate and the xp give me warning that said "the memory is low" or something like that. but although the memory already 2GB my lenovo still cannot hibernate and the xp still said that warning.I like to hibernate my laptop, beause with the hibernate, my lenovo can save batery and the programs will be still open that have be used before it goes hibernate. Anyone have same problem with me? can help me? Thanks before...  sorry my english bad...

Answer:Lenovo 3000 Y410 - Cannot Hibernate

Ensure that you have enough free space available in your hard drive. I've read somewhere that you need as much free space as you have RAM [2GB RAM means 2GB free space required]. Not sure as I am not a big user of hibernation.

i have windows 7 installed and validated in my laptop. my laptop is lenovo  3000 Y410 build, which i bought 2 years ago. Last night it suddenly got shut down while i was working on it for the past half an hour. i thought that it must have been due to the overheating of battery( which is lready a problem with my laptop), but it wasn't. there are no viruses etc as my avg antivirus is completely updated. i restarted it several times and windows gave an option of startup repair which i clicked. but every time my laptop got shut down in the middle of startup only.. it was not allowing the startup repair to run completely. then i allowed it to cool down and again booted it after 1 hour. startup repair restored my settings from the last restore point and loaded windows 7. as soon as i started doing my work, it got shut down again. i haven't touched my laptop ever since. i guess there can be some hardware problem because the operating system loaded correctly. this is the first time it has happened. i don't how all of sudden this happened. i haven't changed the configuration of my laptop or made any hardware changes. i haven't installed any software which could lead to this problem. please help me please.

The 3000 Y410 seems to be disappearing from local retailers. Does anyone know why?
There seem to have been bad reviews saying that this notebook does not compare well to Thinkpads.
Are these reviews true? How well would this notebook perform for home office use (wordprocessing,
drafting, web publishing)? Is there a different notebook more appropriate for this?

Hi, I have a four and half year old Lenovo 3000 Y410 7757 Intel Core 2 Duo 1.5 GHz laptop. Now, my power adapter stopped working today and I am looking to replacing AC/DC adapter. However, online I found lenov does not make these adapter anymore N193 Could some one tell me alternative to this power adapter ?Will Ideapad 65W  Power adapter work ? I see that it also outputs same Voltage and current, I am not sure about the jack though.. Thanks,Ambuj Varshney

Answer:Lenovo 3000 Y410 7757

Hello and welcome,

If we can believe CDW, there are several U and Y - compatible power bricks that should work.  This particular unit is 90W, but the list of compatible laptops on this page may be of help.

Lenovo 90W AC Adapter - power adapter - 90 Watt

If your laptop has discrete graphics, you will need a 90-watt adapter.  If it has integrated graphics, a 65W adapter will be OK.  (the support link isn't bringing up any info on your 7757, so I can't tell what sort of graphics you have.

It looks to be a 19V unit with a5.5mm x 2.5mm connector.
This info is from 3rd party sites (not Lenovo) so please verify before buying anything.

I bought this laptop from TigerDirect.ca on April 22 2008, it was advertised to have instant savings of $150 (i think it was that much) and a mail in rebate of $200 (that one i'm sure of). I got the rebate confirmation/initial approval email on May the 10. It said 4-6 weeks for receipt of my rebate check. It's now july the 28th, almost 8 weeks have passed. I went to the website rebatecenterca.com and entered my information and it says there are no records found. I haven't bothered to call the phone number they give because everyone says they don't answer. What should I do? Answer:Lenovo 3000 Y410- Slot dvd upgrade

Smiley,

At present, there are no Options / Upgrades sold in this regard for the Y410.   As this is officially not supported, I wouldn't advise this while under warranty. After the warranty is up, perhaps you could pick up a drive and swap it out?

Perhaps someone else in the WW community has made such a swap out?

Hi, my laptop keeps shuting down between 1 to 3 min after i turn it on, it stoped working like a year or two ago and i stoped using it and the battery might have been drained but recently i bought a universal ac power adapter and it started to work again and the battery charges but then the shuting down happend and i tried system recovery, didnt work, then i used novo and it still dose it. i dont know if i just need to clean the inside or if its a virus or if its a problem with the mother board bc somtimes windows fails to even start, and it says somtimes it might be bc a sofware or hardware change and i should insert instalation disc and restart and select language and then hit next and then repair, but i dont know what disc it is and this only pops up 1/3 times when it just shuts off. so i dont know what to do. can some one help me? or give me any USEFULLLL advice, it would mean a lot. THX...

Answer:Windows Xp drivers for lenovo 3000 y410 model

Friend, I am in the same boat, only mine is actually sinking.  I jumped the gun and installed xp when I saw their support page had drivers for both vista and xp.  Every driver worked perfectly for me except for the sound.  I've found dozens of drivers that were supposed to work but didn't.  Now I'm stuck with an incredibly fast computer with my preferred OS and no resolution in site.  If you're still searching for the xp drivers you can go to their website for assistance: http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/lenovo/drivers/list.aspx?CategoryID=104 or http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-68104 Good luck to you.

Hi, I'm getting really frustrated with the not so brilliant partitioning of the disc drive and am planning to do a hard disk upgrade from the little 1XXGB to 320 or 500GB and maybe just sacrifice the slightly redundant 'Onekey recovery' function with a more decent and less worrying partition. Does anyone know if that can be done?I am also planning to do a clean install of windows 7 Ultimate on the new drive. Does anyone have any suggestions about hard disk drives that I can consider or any other options that I can consider? I've already tried all the 'don't install programs on C' and 'clear up shadow copies of back up' suggestions. ThanksChris My laptop details:Windows Vista Home PremiumIntel Core 2 Duo T5450 1.66GHz2GB RAMHitachi HTS541612J9SA00 ATA Hard disk drive

Answer:Lenovo 3000 Y410 Hard Disk Upgrade

Hello, This is easy, you'll need a new hard drive, and a windows ultimate disk 64 or 32 bit. I suggest Western Digital drives, black, blue, or green. Get them at newegg. Actually what I'd do is keep your current drive, since you don't need much space. But buy a big Western Digital drive and a USB enclosure, for backup. Backup your data there and do a clean install. A good rule of thumb is not to buy the latest and greatest in size drive, but go down a mark or better two. For example don't buy a 2 TB drive if that's the biggest you can get, instead go down some, not 1.5 TB, just get 1 TB.. This is because latest and greatest usually don't last as long as a little bit older.  You simply don't need Lenovo Onekey recovery. So forget about it. Just don't install it.   When installing Windows 7, you'll have to play with drivers, power manager, etc. Because your laptop might not be made for Windows 7, and Vista drivers might not be compatible with Windows 7. Also, if you choose 64-bit OS that's the same story. You might have to use drivers from another Lenovo laptop. So be prepared to play around and do several clean installations while you figure things out.  My advice is to keep your current hard drive intact, and use the new one to figure things out with Windows 7. That way if you get borred or things don't work out, you just swap hard drive and have your system. Then, back up your data on the new hard drive, and do a clean instal... Read more

Hi,
I never ran in to this kind of problem in my life so far. Recently I bought a Lenovo 3000 Y410 laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium pre-installed. I tried to dual boot Ubuntu 7.04 with it. This actually replaced my boot loader with GRUB. I formatted the Ubuntu without being aware that GRUB would start again during reboot. The next time I restarted the computer, GRUB blind Windows Vista and I couldnt log on.
So, I formatted the Computer using Windows Vista recovery DVD.
Then I installed all the drivers for Vista. Onething I cant find is the Infrared driver. I tried a full hardware search and Vista doesnt locate it. I tried to get Chat help from Lenovo and they didnt answer me. I dont know what kind of Infrared device the laptop is equipped with.
Is there anyway, I can find the infrared device even though it is not listed under device manager? I dont want to buy any softwares please. Free and safe ones would do.
I want it to work. If you know the infrared device name for Lenovo 3000 Y410 laptop, please let me know.

Thanks for the help. Please do help. I need Infrared for my remote controller so that I can do presentations easily.

I have to turn off the laptop for the charging to continue, and after a while it will automatically cut off again. When i remove the battery (with A/C plugged in an switch on), the laptop works perfectly fine, just like any other desktop PC. There is unusual loud noise and vibration caused by spindle motor of my dvd drive. Can this be resolved by CRU's? Does anyone also encountered this kind of problem?Message Edited by ulyray on 05-05-2008 09:09 AM

Answer:Unusual Noise and Vibration of slot-in Dvd drive Lenovo 3000 Y410

Ulyray,

Could you tell us a bit more about when the drive seems unusually loud and vibrates?  Is it when it first spins up a DVD, or all the time?    Have you tried running it at lower speeds?   I believe Skripatch had some suggestions on that in the IdeaPad section of the forum.

Other forum members with Y410 may weigh in here with perception as to when some noise and vibration is typical in operation and whether yours may be abnormal.   Most drives I've seen exhibit some vibration and sound when spinning up the disk.

If your drive is indeed defective, it may be best to consult with service in your country to see if they will send the part, or have you send to a central repair center.   Here in North America, customers would send in their system to have the DVD replaced on the Y410 models.

It's been a while since the release of the Y410 and they now have the Santa rosa refresh processors. I was wondering if Lenovo will provide a bios update to be able to enable "Intel VT" support. I am currently using a y410 with T7300, 4GB ram. I believe the chipset and processor supports the use of Intel VT (hardware Virtualization) option. I use my personal laptop to run Virtual PCs. One Major reason for my choice of the y410 is that I use a ThinkCentre 8811 with Intel VT option and had a chance to use a T61p (A month with a Nvidia Quadro. =) ) again with Intel VT enabled. Note: I learned my lesson. Always check the Bios aside from the OS setup. I was pondering an XPS 1330 but ended up with the Y410 as I was able to buy a 19 LCD TV with the saved money. Still wishing a bios upgrade in sight as I don't want to think of it as a bad choice. I saw the XPS 1330 and it had an "Intel VT" option. *SOB* ='/Message Edited by jojo_b2 on 05-05-2008 02:28 AM

Answer:Lenovo 3000 Y410 enable "Intel VT" support in Bios (Hardware Virtualization)

Since no one replied to my post. I just replied to my self. lol! =) Anyway. I found good news. I just flashed my Bios due to a Critical Bios Patch posting on the Lenovo Support site. My Lenovo Y410 was on of the affected systems. After patching, I went back to work on my Virtual Server. I support Sharepoint Servers 2003-2007 and have scaled down copies on my laptop. For some unknown reason, I can now enable the "Enable Hardware Assisted Virtualization" check box on the Virtual PC 2007. Eureka! In my excitement I tried looking at the bios by restarting my PC. But in amazement there was no change on the BIOS GUI. everything was the same no option was there to enable Intel VT. I then went back to windows and checked my VPC and the check box was still there and still modifieable. I don't know who to thank be this might only be a glitch on the patch. But, Thank you! I am proud to say I can now fully utilize my laptop for Play and WORK! As I use VPCs any performance gain is a real bonus for me. =) Note:I am using a Lenovo Y410 with Model 7757-35A: Intel T7300, 4GB, 160 GB, Nvidia 8400M GS. I am not sure if Intel VT will be enabled on other Y410 models. I guess only Lenovo can answer this one. But if this is the case for the Y410 with T8300 processors and Nvidia 8600M VC. This would be another good reason to buy these systems. =) **Intel VT is only available for some T2xxx, and T7xxx series processors and above (e.g. T2300, T710... Read more

ok so when im playing games , on my lenovo laptop , after playing for about 10 mins the game starts to stutter a lot then my wifi suddenly disconnects and then my laptop wont find anymore wireless networks unless i restart it, this is kind of annoying because i bought this laptop to play some simple games too during my free time (by the way, the games i play arent even that high graphic demanding , stuff like diablo 2 , maple story etc.) , not just school work, for the specs were pretty good, the graphics card is integrated, but i know even if it is integrated it should still be able to handle the games im playing..... ,  if anyone could please tell me what is wrong with my laptop it would be gladly appreciated  , like if it could be a driver problem , hardware problem, or if the laptop itself has a defect  by the way heres my specs:Lenovo 3000 y410Windows XP: Home Edition Service Pack 3Intel core 2 duo 2.0 Ghz2gb RAMIntel GM965 chipset~ integrated graphics card  Message Edited by bananapie321 on 12-14-2008 06:07 AM

When I am at the website and navigate to the scan and fix diagnostic; it fails to do so. Surely it is supposed to automatically run the diagnostic scan to determine what, if any updates, devices etc. require to be repaired? I have not been able to get the camera to work at all; but supposedly the best driver software for the camera is installed. Plus even after making requests and "googling" all over the place, I cannot find any links to the "veriface" software that was originally provided with this laptop. I know from  my past experiences with a T400 that when I ran the Lenovo Service Centre, that is what it did, but each time I have ran it on the Y410 it very quickly says there are no applicable updates. So how am I supposed to determine which Base System Devices are not installed properly, if I don't know what they could be; and online diagnostic checks fail to run? Links to screenshots of  device manager and camera software correctly installed;  device manager = camera software =

Disclaimer:  This tutorial was written for absolute n00bs!  I mean the "I've never seen a command prompt/terminal before" or "What's Ubuntu?" kinda n00b.  For those experienced Linux users, my sincerest apologies.  The initial fix for my Lenovo sound problem worked until the next reboot.  When my pc booted into Ubuntu just after the fix the sound no longer worked.  I've found that putting the computer on standby and waking it up revives the sound, but plugging the headphones in won't cutoff the front speakers (once again).  At the end of this post I'll explain a simple way to mute the front speakers while keeping the headphones on.  Open your terminal.  This can be accomplished a number of ways, but if you have the latest Ubuntu installed you can find the terminal by going to: Applications>Accessories>Terminal  (The Applications dropdown is in the upper-right hand of your screen). Copy this code:  sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-baseNow paste the code in your terminal by right-clicking in the terminal and selecting "Paste" from the dropdown menu.Don't try the Ctrl-c and Ctrl-v shortcuts here, it will not work.Once the code is pasted press your Return or Enter key.You will be prompted for your password. Make sure to type it slow and steady since you won't be able to see what you're typing while you type.Press EnterThis should open a small editing program within the TerminalNow scroll down within the Te... Answer:Linux (Ubuntu) Sound Problems Semi-Resolved for Lenovo 3000 Y410 - step by step (Realtek ALC262)

The files from the Realtek website seem to be nothing more than alsa driver version 1.0.16.  Most modern distros include version 1.0.17 already; and version 1.0.18 is almost ready for release.  Therefore, you could probably skip the download and install altogether, and just modify the version 1.0.17 module parameters (model=lenovo) and be done. Did the driver included in Ubuntu 8.04, using the model=lenovo option, fail on your hardware?

hey

i noticed yesterday that the fan & heatsink on my athlon xp (2100+) processor is pretty full of dust. can anyone please tell me how to go about
detatching that clip that holds them to the mobo socket so i can clean them out? i built the pc, but have kinda forgotten exactly how the clip latches down & i don't want to exert too much force on anything in that area.
is it correct that i'll also need to regrease the bottom of the sink with thermal grease? is this grease available at places like best buy or circ. city?

thank you!

Answer:How to remove athlon xp heatsink/fan for heatsink cleaning

Forgive me, but I find it hard to believe that if you put that machine together once, you forgot how to take it apart now.
It is human nature to never forget something that you did on your own.
That hold's true for computers also.
Maybe it will suffice if you just unscrew the fan from the heatsink and clean the fan and heatsink fins with a 1/4 - 1/2 inch paintbrush.

Question: 3000 Y410

The 3000 Y410 seems to be disappearing from local retailers. Does anyone know why? There seem to have been bad reviews saying that this notebook does not compare well to Thinkpads. Are these reviews true? How well would this notebook perform for home office use (wordprocessing, drafting, web publishing)? Is there a different notebook more appropriate for this?

Answer:3000 Y410

mmosias,

The Y410 is intended more for individual general purpose use while the Thinkpad line is targeted more toward professional usage.   Both systems should be able to handle general purpose computing.

You may also note that the new Y510 and Y710 models were just announced and should begin appearing in stores soon.   I believe the Y510 will be available slightly sooner.

You can compare features online between these systems and decide if one is right for you.   You might also keep your eye on the new IdeaPad section of this forum, and as the first customers get systems, I hope they will share their thoughts, and this may also help you in your considerations.

Best regards,

I have a 3000 Y410 w/ 2GB memory - how much more can I add?

Answer:3000 Y410 - How much memory can I add?

if you use a 32 bit operating System then 3 gig is maximum the system can recognise. but 2 gig should be enough for your current needs. If you decide to upgrade to 3 gig, one of your 1 gig stick be redundant.

Hello,I'm running a dual boot Vista\XP configuration on my Lenovo 3000 Y410. When running in XP I encounter an annoying problem- my wireless connection will be working fine and then suddenly stop working- no internet access. When I check the network connections window my Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection appears as "connected" like usual, but it's not. I can't access the wireless router ip either when this happens. A restart will fix the problem, but fn+F5 doesn't, so it's a hassle. In vista I haven't encountered the problem.Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance,Ronen

Cansomeone please help me figure out the issues with the sound on this computer. I understand it is supposed to have a decent sound system on it. Could not prove it by mine. The sound is very low no matter what I play on it. If I use my headphones the sound is great. I have tried all the new and updated drivers from the Lenove sight and from the manufacturer site. No luck.In fact whenever I install a new or updated driver for the sound card I completely loose my sound and have to go back to the original driver. If anyone knows a fix for this problem please let me know.ThanksShane

I bought this notebook 10 days ago. The lcd screen was showing weird colours. The tech service ppl changed the inverter but i still have the same problem. They promised to change the lcd screen for me but I have to wait for the shipment. Lenovo should have adequate stock or else there is no point in having a service centre. Consumers cannot wait for a month or so for getting things serviced under warranty. I  also do not like frequent visits to service centres and my new computer being opened and fiddled several times. I hope Lenovo looks into the matter. The Ser. ppl have informed me that the will replace the lcd panel next week. I am hoping for the best. Regarding the sound pls don't claim that the system comes with dolby and bass expander etc. The sound is crap and we can hardly hear the sound from 3 feet. Lenovo being a good company should rectify all these problems at the earliest to safeguard thier future in the notebook industry.

My C drive has 29 GB capacity, the D drive has 105 GB.  My understanding is that C is for recovery and D is for user data.  Since I have owned this machine (4 months) however, all program files and data and all user data have automatically been written to C.  Now I have 8 GB free on C and all 105 GB on D.  This seems wrong.  Should I move the folders "Program Files", "Program Data", and "Users" to D drive?  Will there be problems if I do?  Thanks.

Answer:Use of C and D drives on 3000 Y410 notebook

Dear user, For my suggestion,It's not recommended u move c:\program files manually, it will causes your system may be un-stable and may be effect your OS too if you moved manually.  You can move your Program by  uninstall the programs u want to move to D and u re-install it and please customize it install to D:\program files\xxxx     this will be no problem. For my recommendation, next time if u do partition, may be may partition it at ration 50% / 50%.

Hi, I have both a Lenovo 3000 G430 and a Lenovo 3000 G230.... while the lenovo G230 is more expensive than the G430, i was shocked that the g230 uses a 1.3MP "Bison electronics" webcam while the g430 uses the 0.3 MP "silicon electronics" webcam which performs much way better than the bison electronics... the silicon electronics performs very well on low light conditions while the bison electronics webcam has a dark image output... when i tested this two webcam i placed them (the two laptop) side by side so the light condition is the same and its clear that the bison electronics is knocked out by silicon electronics when it comes to image clarity.. i already have the lenovo service center to replace my g230 webcam with a new one but still it cant out perform the clarity of the g430's webcam  g230 = model # 20006; MO number: R3N038B05091; (1S)59016396g430 = model # 20008; MO number: R3NY39214981; (1S)59018029 to lenovo... why did you do this??? and another thing, the lenovo g230 has a clear plastic cover for the webcam lense which is prone to scratches! this cover should be made of a scratch proof plastic... I only use a IBM/lenovo mobile computer because of its great built (especially the keyboard), software and hardware design, but now i cant immagine how this has happend,I want a recall order for the g230 for the problems i have observed and stated aboved to be fixed immediately...  ... Anybody knows what is the maximum RAM speed for Y410 7757? I'm currently use a 2GB DDR2 @ 800 Mhz with Win XP but i can't see the RAM speed since my BIOS unable to display it.  Does it have a speed limit and can it support up to 1066 Mhz RAM? I have searched the document on the web but it's currently not available. Anyone please guide me.

Answer:Maximum RAM frequency/speed for 3000 Y410?

The Y410 utilizes the GM965 chipset. This chipset supports a maximum 667MHz memory. You say that it has 800MHz memory installed. However, verification through PC Wizard will show you that it is running at 667MHz and not 800MHz. 1066MHz memory is out of the question. Only DDR3 memory runs at 1066MHz and DDR3 memory is not backwards compatible with DDR2 memory.
