I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Cleaning the dust? lenovo Y510

I read whole Ideapad section every day and sometimes Lenovo 3000. Just do not have time sometimes to reply. I try to reply every case I can handle... Mine is about 55-60 permanently (CPU).To clean dust you have to vent it by pressed air or take off that part of Y510 that s above cooler. Usually I vent cooler once a month - that's more than enough.

Hi, I've recently just purchased the lenovo Y50. I noticed that the ventalation areas on the bottom of the laptop are accumulating a lot of dust. I was wondering how to clean this? Should I take off the bottom cover and try to blow the dust out or take some kind of wet sponge and swipe across the exterior of the vent? Thanks!

Answer:Cleaning Dust off of Lenovo Y50

Welcome to the forum! I would try using a can of compressed air to blow out the fan and ventilation grills.  Use short bursts of air to blow out the passages as long burst may over rev the fan.  Also be sure to blow air in both the intake and exhaust grills to remove dust from both directions.  That always works best for me.  Canned compressed air is available at any office supply store or big box store.  I would avoid using a damp cloth or sponge on the grills until you have the insides blown out of all the dust bunnies.  Getting the inner accumulated dust wet may solidify it when dried if it isn't totally removed. If you have any removable covers on the bottom that have vent slits you can remove these for cleaning.  As for removing the entire laptop bottom that would take quite a bit of disassembling to accomplish that chore.

Hello, let me begin with how satisfied i've been with my Y570 since i bought it 2 years ago, it has met every expectation i had for it. But 1 month ago, my laptop fan stopped being able to use the Efficient Thermal Dissipation from Thermal Management. Actually, the only option that seems to work is Dust Cleaning since it speeds up my fan and stops it until it's over. I already fully cleaned the fan, and i don't know what else to do. Thank you very much beforehand

Answer:Lenovo Y570 Thermal Management - Only Dust Cleaning Works

while the computer is turned off, remove the AC and battery.then Hold the power button for 15 seconds. install the battery and plug AC. Does it bring back the fan mode funtionality?

Hi all i just bought some dust off computer cleaner for my mouse, my mouse had lots of dust in it so i thought this would be great, I thought it was just canned air but now reading on the internet Ive heard people have died from it, it accidently sort of sprayed me in the face, my eyes started burning alittle, i went and flushed out my face and eyes with water like the label told me too. but is it safe to use my mouse with that stuff sprayed all over it? I plugged in a different mouse for now. Please reply Im very worried.

Answer:Computer dust cleaner for cleaning dust out of mouse good idea?

The only way that you can die from that stuff is if you intentionally inhale it. People inhale duster to get high. Some unfortunate people have died from it because it can freeze your lungs. Your mouse should be fine. Also, if you're using a PS/2 mouse, turn the computer off before you plug it back in.

Question: cleaning out dust

If using a vacuum to clean out the dust inside the case, is there anything I should be aware of NOT to do? I plan on just using a vacuum tube with the brissel head thinger on it; if this can cause any problems, please let me know.

Answer:cleaning out dust

I'd just use a can of air to clean out the computer, while it is off.

Some vacuums are not all that strong to get rid of all the dust on all the parts.

At work we use an air compressor.

My computer is almost 3 years old. I clean it (blow it out) about every 6 months. It is working fine but I noticed today, when I had it open, that the fan sitting on the CPU was pretty dirty and because the fan blades are far enough apart I could see down onto the top of the CPU and that was really packed full of dust. I don't see any screws or clicks holding down the fan and can't quit figure out how to remove the fan so I can clean the heat sink blades, etc.

I suppose there are a dozen ways these are attached, but could use some suggestions of how it may be fastened.

The computer is an HP Pavilion a1125c, for whatever that information may be worth.

My Upgrading and Servicing Guide that came with the PC covers just about everything but the CPU or related CPU parts.

So I've had my PC for maybe two to three years now, and quite a bit of dust has accumulating on the inside, particular near the fans, due to there being vents on the sides and top of the tower. Anyway, I want to clean it out, so I bought a can of compressed air (the brand is Stoner Gust, btw), but I'm a little worried about doing this because I don't have a lot experience in this area, so I was hoping you guys could answer some questions for me:

1. I've heard that if you tilt the can, it squirts out a liquid, and this can damage your PC if gets on your motherboard or any other sensitive components. If this happens, is there anything I can do, or is my computer just ruined?

2. Would it be a good idea to try tilting the can and spraying it as practice so that I'll get a feel for how much it can be titled without causing any damage, or would this be a bad idea because it might cause the liquid to get on the nozzle and be sprayed onto my computer's components when I hold it upright and spray the air normally?

3. Is it safe to spray everywhere, motherboard included? I was under the impression this was the case, but I just wanted to be sure.

Thanks.

Oh, and if there's anything else you think I should know, I'd appreciate the input. Again, this is my first time doing this, and I really don't want to screw anything up. I can't afford to get a new computer now if I mess this one up.

I have a air compressor in my dads garage and I have 2 years of dust sitting inside the computer. So I was thinking if I unplug the computer and take it downstairs and set it on a flat surface.

Could I just spray it out with the compressor, obviously keep it 10-12 inches away because of the pressure.

What is everyones thoughts.

Answer:Cleaning the dust out of my computer.

Anyone?

I am basically just going to spray its down and get all the dust out, also I know know one here is probably a expert on using a air compressor to spray out a computer but do you think it will reduce the temperature?

Thanks.

If you live in a high humidity area, it is important that you pay extra attention to the dust cleaning in your computer case. A shorter period of time between cleaning is suggeted.

Areas of high humidity can cause the dust that normally gets drawn into and collects on your system components to stick like glue to things like fan blades, heatsink fins, circuit card surfaces. Thus interupting or even blocking the air flow across, or through these components. Effectively decreasing the cooling capability of your system.

In high humidity areas it might be worth a monthly or even biweekly cleaning instead of once every 3 months. I clean my system out once a month normally, but during the high humidity months I do it every 2 weeks.

This is just a suggestion to help you keep your cool!

I have an Antec 900 mid tower, my system collects dust as well as a binman! I have purchased a can off compresed air(Inline Air Duster 400ml) to clean my rig with and was wondering if there are any tips you can give me on using it inside my rig. I know that i have to keep the can horizontal to prevent spraying moisture as well as air but can i spray the air directly onto my mainboard and cpu fan radiator? My specs E8500 3.16Ghz, 4Gb DDR2 667Mhz, ASUS P5N32-E SLI, XFX GTX275 896Mb.

Answer:Cleaning dust issue

it's safe to spray the air directly onto the mainboard from 6 or so inches away but, like you pointed out, try to avoid the moisture as much as possible. the moisture is freezing and can damage small plastic parts on contact. it's not a big deal if you get a little on certain areas but as a rule of thumb you only want to release the air inside the can. if you need to get closer to a few key components, such as the CPU heatsink, you can stick the can right in there but use short bursts.

if you want to really clean it out good you can use a compact air compressor with the side panel off the case. you can't get as close to your components as you can with just compressed air but it's more effective and you wont deplete gas or moisture.

Sorry its me again does anybody know the best way to it is to clean the fan plus the inlet and outlet grids of dust in a dell Inspron 1525 laptop and stopping it from getting to warm. thanks

Answer:cleaning fan, etc of dust 1525

Buy an aerosol of compressed air ad blowit out and at the same time hold the vacuum cleaner nozzle to catch the dust as it flies around. It's no good blasting it off just to settle down again, you may also need a small clean paintbrush to finish off dust that has stuck, but be sure to earth yourself before doing anything so there is no static electricity around, washing hands will also neutralise static.

disclaimer:
i'm a little embarassed to even have to ask such basic questions. however, it seems easier to find information to solve technical questions than to find information spelling out what most people just know.

background for static electricity questions:
i've read that--
grounding is important when working on hardware. this can be accomplished with an antistatic wrist band and a cardboard box.

questions:
1. if we open a case on a wood kitchen table and work while standing on a tile floor, is this sufficient?
2. is there anything i should know about the tools we use? i use chopsticks to hold things out of my way, for reaching things or to help me get the cases apart when they don't just have screws. is this okay?
3. i use a regular plastic screwdriver when i need one. do i need to do anything to ground it?

about cleaning:
canned air seems to be the choice. is it the only choice? can i use a clean paintbrush, a microfiber cloth, or a magic eraser on parts. is it a HUGE no-no to use the dyson?

some of the computers my son and i have been working on are very old, most have been stored in garages. while they are working fine without much cleaning, it goes against my instinct to put anything back together without wiping it down first.

for the record, we aren't running a business. it's just something fun to do and i don't want to put a lot of funds into it.

Answer:Static electricity? cleaning dust?

If you touch the metal of the case, you are at the same potential as the case
Therefore you cannot harm the parts (unless you build up Static Electricity by moving around again.

The brush is OK too

Answer:question about cleaning the dust in my computer

The recommended way is to buy a an aerosol can of compressed air to blow out the dust from the mobo and fans.Maplins, PC World or local computer shop.I also use a special nozzle attachment on a vacuum cleaner to carefully clear dust from the bottom of the case.

I had a processor upgrade about 2 months ago.In the 2 month period I've had it, I've noticed a 5 degree increase in temperature(both on idle and under load). I was 41 degrees at idle, now it's 46 degrees.I'm assuming this is just due to a build up of fluff/dust on the cpu heatsink and fan.I know you don't use a hoover to suck out the dust, but what's a safe way to remove this dust/fluff?As it's a Athlon xp2400+ cpu I know these sort of temperatures are nothing to worry about, but would just like to keep the temperature as low as possible.Cheers, dagwoood.

I unscrewed everything and managed to remove the 'click' mechanism on other parts except on the bottom left part. When i applied more force trying to remove the casing on bottom left part, it feel like there's something holding it and im afraid of damaging it because i saw theres another casing attached together with the outer casing, when im trying to pull it up, seems like im not only pulling the other casing. Does anyone have experience on this?

I have just changeed my old computer for a new Sony laptop. I used to wipe my old screen about once a month to remove dust. However after just three days the new computer is thick with dust. I have tried a camera air blower and a soft camera brush but the static appears to be so strong that I just push the dust around into little piles without removing it. Any ideas would be welcome.Regards Noels

Try using fabric conditioner, slightly diluted, and wipe the screen. When dry, buff up. Works for TV as well.

Used a compressed air can to remove the dust from inside my pc. There is now a weird smell around the pc, at first i thought it was my PSU but after taking it out and smelling that and the rest of the components i cant locate it. could it just be burning dust or something?

Answer:Weird smell after cleaning dust from pc

One of the problems when using compressed air is that it can come out of the nozzle as a liquid.
Is there any chance thatyyour PC was still turned on while you did this?

I run my pc with the panels off, mainly because for no particular reason it likes to forget that I have any or all hard drives and crash, until I disconnect and reconnect them at which point it can 'see' them again. I don't know why this happens.

For one, I don't know if it is good to have the side panels off, for one thought of the fan being useless, and is it absolutely essential for a well running pc?

The other and main thing I wonder, is this: Inside my PC is horrendously dusty. Three years dusty to be specific.
Especially since I have the feeling it is a main culprit for my many machine check exceptions, I feel I should probably clean it out, but I don't know the best way how. I don't have a can of compressed air, and I don't even know if that would have a chance of... dislodging some of those little chips and pieces on the circuit boards.
Basically I just don't know how I would go about effectively cleaning out the dust in a way that would not harm my hardware.

Help?

Answer:Cleaning dust out of the inside of your machine?

Well, I don't have a can of compressed air, So what i do. Is that I take a paint brush, inch wide, 1/2 inch thick(I wish I had a slightly smaller one) and I gently brush the inside of my PC. As for around pins on the Mobo, I use a Tiny brush and blow on the pins.... It works for me. Just be careful not to bend pins or unplug things. But thats what I do.

Hi

I've been trying to figure this out for the past day searching for any answers but I've usually found people having this problem on laptops.
I have a desktop computer from Packard Bell, it has been working fine up until yesterday morning when I decided to clean it of dust to prepare it for the warm months to come, to be able to clean it easier I removed the graphic card along with the hard drives and ram, but after I put everything back and started up the computer windows no longer detected my card but instead says "Standard VGA Graphics adapter" now i'm not sure if my monitor was detected differently before but now it says Generic non-PnP Monitor and the max resolution being 1600x1200 as opposed to 1920x1280 before.

The card is obviously working as I have no integrated graphics and my monitor is connected to the card and I'm typing this from the same computer but when I try to reinstall the drivers it says it cannot find compatible graphics hardware, I made sure I downloaded the right ones.

Other things that I have tried:
-in BIOS even though there was only choice between auto or PCIE for Primary Display Adapter I set it to PCIE.
-Checked if perhaps card wasn't properly inserted but everything seems fine.
-Left computer completely unplugged from power source over night, no changes
-have not tried installing drivers in safe mode, am going to try after this is posted.

I am including a screenshot of HWinfo which seems to be the only program that detects my gra... Read more

I don't know if this post is appropriate for this forum section but hopefully it is. Today I cleaned my PC with canned air. Hadn't cleaned it for over a year. I opened it up, took outside and put it on a table. It wasn't too cold outside but not warm either. Then I started spraying canned air. Everything was going smoothly until I started spraying it on a part near the processor. I heard a sizzling noise. I do have to mention that I didn't give it enough time to cool off before doing this. After I was done I rigged everything back up, gave it a few minutes to go back to normal temperature and ran it. Everything does seem to be working smoothly. Though running it the first time was different. There was a different beep and I saw the "American Megathrends" screen (which I don't usually see). But running it the second and the third time was normal like always. The PC is more silent (as it should be after cleaning out the dust). Though I am still concerned about the noise. Could me being a little careless and not giving time for the PC to cool off have caused serious damage to the hardware? If you have any information about these kind of things please share it. Thank You in advance!

Answer:Sizzling noise when cleaning PC dust with canned air

You might be holding the can at an angle and some of the propellent is escaping in liquid form. When it does it is vaporizing and making that noise. Hold the can upright.

I have been getting Frequent BSOD after I blew away all the dust that was collected in my laptop's fan with an aircan to prevent overheating, (before cleaning around 50-60 celsius, after cleaning around 30-40 celsius)

When ever i get BSOD is when either I am browsing youtube and watching videos, or when I'm playing video games.
The errors that I have been getting are SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED, Kernel Security Check Failure and KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED.
Before all of this I also had some BSOD issues but after I updated the drivers I hadn't had any BSOD until my recent clean-up.

The DM Log Collector file is attached.

Dumps are all over the place and a few indictae memory_corruption. Since you have two different manufacturers of memory (Micron and Hynix) it would be a good idea to test the RAM:

Memtest86+ runs from bootable media to isolate the RAM from the system, no other components are taken into account during the test.

MemTest86+ needs to run for at least 8 passes to be anywhere near conclusive, anything less will not give a complete analysis of the RAM.

If you are asked to run MemTest86+ by a Ten Forums member make sure you run the full 8 passes for conclusive results. If you run less than 8 passes you will be asked to run it again.

It all started with my computer clocking out, now,i have a bad habit of leaving my computer on while i sleep, but the problem was, like always, too much dust because i hadn't cleaned it in a long while.

I open the cpu and carefully clean the dust clumps from the cooler fan and corners with a toothpick like usual, and when i turn it on it says it can't find a hard drive unit in grey letters at the corner of a black screen. This a normal issue i have after cleaning and i always fix it by reconnecting the cables behind the hard drive and restarting, rarely it takes more than one try. But this time it took two tries and turned on,but froze at start up after the explorer.exe stopped responding.

I restart, and before the windows logo disappears when booting up it restarts itself, takes a long time to boot, and says it can't find the hard drive again. I go reconnect the cables and when i stand up to look at the screen ready to restart, the screen is all fuzzy like missingno, with a bunch of flashing colors.
Scared i restart, and the cpu turns on fine, but the monitor says no signal. I look down and the cooler is spinning fine, but it won't start up.
I reconnect the monitor to see if thats the issue and nothing,i try turning it off for a few minutes and nothing,i try reconnecting the hard drive and nothing, the cpu turns on but it doesn't boot up,i even tried connecting the monitor with a hdmi cable but still no signal.

Answer:Cleaning Dust from x220 fan without digging too deep into laptop

I would just remove keyboard and palmrest, block the fan with your finger, a tootpick or any other object and apply compressed air.

I normally do it from the vents towards the fan, then move the fan a little and repeat the operation. After that I apply air directly to the fan vents, always blocking the fan!

Hope this helps...

Hi guys,

I've attached the dump file as specified here: Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions

Things I did leading up to when it first started.

1) Updated to NVIDIA drivers v 337.88.
2) BSOD started, rare and infrequent.
3) Happened again, so I took out my PC and cleaned it out with aircan.
4) BSOD started happening more frequently.
5) Also crashes and get CPU Temperature error at BIOS beginning which won't let me start. I used real temp and also ran prime95 and got the following result using Blend torture test:

[Sun Jun 08 16:34:10 2014]
Self-test 448K passed!
Self-test 448K passed!
Self-test 448K passed!

Now the BSODs seem random, at least I haven't found a common pattern between them all. Any help would be appreciated

Hello, I need help on my Lenovo Companion app with it's dust removal option.

I just bought my Lenovo ideapad 700 for a week now.

Previously I had the dust removal option in the Lenovo Quick Optimizer widget on taskbar.

After I turned it on, the option never existed anymore in the quick widget and even in Lenovo Companion app itself.

Would really love to see this feature again in my new laptop.

Answer:Can i update one key recovery, readycomm, veriface etc with Lenovo y530 on a lenovo y510?

If you find installers - yes.Only limitation for these programs is that you can run their installation on Lenovo laptops only.Within Lenovo laptops they can be installed on Any Ideapads and on any Len3k G-series.

Hi all, I previously intended to post this about 4 months ago until my hard drive failed mid post. Not even kidding. Again.  Here it is. I am unaware if it made it online or not but this is what happened and I will be adding even more detail after the 3rd or 4th technician came over. I am a tad foggy with my memory, but if I'm foggy what is this JUNK ThinkPad Twist and the TERRIBLE AND INFURIATING auto playing and never ending message on Lenovo's phone number of 18008839902. Did you know you could go online and troubleshoot my terrible Lenovo? Where can I confirm my technical support and warranty status? With Lenovo you pretty much lose. Without further ado I will begin this again provided the hard drive doesn't fail again.  Hey all, I'm sure you all know thought that when you bought a Lenovo product you thought, "I'm getting a robust well made quality product". That was what I thought too when I bought a Lenovo ThinkPad Twist. I was wrong. VERY wrong. Here are my woes and horrors with the thing. 1) First "Repair"(and beginning of a spiral into death): My HDD failed. Ok its not the end of the world and its not that bad, but after sending to Lenovo to have them repair it I patiently wait. I was initially thinking ok, they sent me an express shipping box so they must care about speed and priorities. I was WRONG AGAIN. They had my laptop for I believe a week or so before I go so angry I called them and asked what the status was and they had confused my T... Read more

Hi all, I have the lenovo y510p SLI 750m version and recently (2-3 days ago) my cpu fan on the left side of the laptop stopped working with the dust removal tool. I removed the lid and I can see both fans spinning just fine, however only the right one actually performs the dust removal when prompted. The other one stays queit and I don't feel any air pushed out of the left side. I can feel it on the right like normal though. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Answer:Lenovo y510p Dust Utility

Hi sifuraga ,

Greetings.

You can initially power drain the system , turning it off removing the ac adapter and battery then pressing down the power button for 12 seconds . Start the machine using the Novo button (page 82) to launch the Novo menu for BIOS set up and set BIOS defaults f9 save and exit F10. Check the BIOS version.

Check how it goes else proceed with uninstalling and fresh installing the Lenovo power mangement tool . Restart and recheck .

Update us how things go.

Answer:Lenovo G510 removal of dust

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

According to your model's User Guide the replacement of the hard drive, memory or wireless card is considered CRU activities.  In otherwords those parts can be serviced by the consumer which means you can also remove the back cover without fear of voiding warranty.  Since the fan is now accessible when the cover is removed.... have fun cleaning.  If you use compressed air to clean,  remember to use short bursts of air as prolong blasts may damage the fan's bearings.

For your reference, here is a link to that User Guide......

I'm trying to solve the fan issue that I've been having with my new Lenovo y40-80 by running Dust Removal in Energy Manager but the option to do so isn't there. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling a bunch of different versions I've found through other threads but still the Dust Removal option isn't showing. Any help would be much appreciated.

Answer:Lenovo y510p fan blocks with dust remover

They are just tired, let them rest for a while and they will start again.  On a serious note, Do you mean that they completely stop? If they do, then this is not normal.

Sorry, I wasn't exactly sure what to call it. On the left side of the laptop where the dust fan opens out, it's lined by these black bars that're part of the laptop exterior. My laptop model is Y410p, but I'm guessing the build materials are pretty much the same across the Y series. (??) Anyways, a number of them broke off recently for some unknown reason (I also can't find a number of them). Touching the fan grills behind the bars is pretty unpleasant (and it's aesthetically unpleasing), so I was wondering if I needed to purchase a specific type of material to cut into shape and superglue back into place.  I'm guessing normal plastics won't fare well due to the heat, but I'm not sure what to get/what's easy to cut into shape. Any suggestions?

Answer:Lenovo Y-series Dust Fan Bars Broke

Welcome to the forum !

The exhaust fan grill on your model is part of the palm rest/keyboard bezel.  Unfortunately I do not know the type of plastic that is used in the making of the palm rest, but I suspect anything you do in regard to cut and gluing might not be aesthetically pleasing as well.  If you are concerned about aesthetics you might consider just having the palm rest replaced.

Hi.... I have a Lenovo G580 for more than a year now... got it from my company as a gift, its warranty has ended... it worked superbly for a year, it still does but my biggest concern is that now it always stays 60 - 65 Degree C hot in idle conditions... using any heavy graphics application, it gets shut down automatically to prevent any further damage from overheating... Reason for that is the dust built up in it... I don't have a blower or cool hair dryer to use... the only way I think practicable is opening it's all screws and manually removing all the dust with the help of a brush or may be using a hot-air hair dryer (which I have) from far above... can someone guide me how to get rid of this dust with minimum disassembly possible...? any precautions also plz... I have the hardware maintenance manual with me but don't wanna try opening the lappy before knowing someone else's experience about it... Thanks....

Answer:How to remove dust from inside a Lenovo G580?

I would suggest buying a blow dryer, because you should do cleaning at regular intervals like once in every 6 months. You can refer to the user and maintenance manual for easy disassembly. Good Luck!

Answer:lenovo y700 dust removal option

Unfortunately, I haven't seen a setting for it. However, unlike previous builds, the filter looks fine enough to catch anything that would get caught up in the fan. Your best bet would be to use compressed air to blow back through the rear vents to loosen up any dust on the bottom of your PC.

Question: Lenovo Y510

Hi, I have Vista on my Lenovo Y510 and it's running great.  But I am anticipating in the next month of updating to Windows 7.   Is there anything I need to be aware of or a possible problem with updating it?  Drivers, etc.?  I just want to be prepared and knowledable about what is ahead.  I don't want any problems with it, since it's running so smoothly. Thanks so much! Shirley Barrett

Answer:Lenovo Y510

IF you are satisfied with your current system and its working great for you, why take the chance ? If you really wish to explore unknown territory, why not get a new laptop hard disk and install Win7 on that instead? This way, you can test and make sure all the drivers YOU need are available without doing permanent damage to your working laptop. 6thSense

Answer:Lenovo Y510 + XP x64

The're both 32 and 64. Some are 32 only and you'll have to get 64 from manufacturers of hardware. You'll not be able to handle energy management since Lenovo doesn't have a valid 64bit driver for it.

Lenovo IdeaPad Y700-15ACZRECAP:                       So If many of you are not aware. The lenovo Y700 series is known for having a problem on all models. That is that the CPU throttles because a dust filter is blocking the majority of air from coming into the laptop vent system. This causes the cpu is reach very high temperatures. When the cpu is under load, rather than going from core clock speeds 2.1GHZ to turbo clock speeds 3.4GHZ, the cpu is overheating and cannot maintain a 3.4GHZ clock speed, dropping done to low clock speeds like 1.5GHZ to maintain ideal CPU temperatures. In other words, CPU Throttling. This causes gaming to be very frustrating because your FPS will spike up and down randomly. Problem:                    My problem is that i have removed the dust filter that should be the source of CPU throttling, but running CPU-Z my clock speeds are still going from 3.4GHZ down to lower clock speeds like 2,5GHZ and sometimes 1,5GHZ. Everyone, and everywhere i have checked people have said that the dust filter fixed the cpu throttlings but i might have messed up somewhere else. My laptop for sure feels much cooler than before, and performance is a bit better but still up and down. What i have Done:                          So this is what i have done to prevent CPU throttling.Plugged i... I plugged my Y510 in with the wrong charger, some smoke came out and it wouldn't charge anymore (with the correct charger). I had someone look at it and they said the motherboard is fried beyond repair.  I am trying to see if it is worth replacing the motherboard but I don't know what it is or where I could find another one.   Could somebody please tell me what the motherboard is for the Lenovo Y510 IdeaPad and if you have some idea of how much one will cost the price too. The computer is no longer under warranty.  Thanks

Answer:Motherboard for Lenovo Y510

if you are going through the official repair channel under Lenovo, the cost of fixing it would be 75% of the cost of brand new purchase (not really worth it). Unfortunately, you can't buy the motherboard from Lenovo, nor is it easy to find as a spare part on the net. The only way to get a motherboard for your laptop is to find a damaged example of the Y510 and pull it apart for the laptop (provided it is working in the first place). I recommend you just buy another laptop and forget about repairing this.

Download and instal Geforce Experience from nVidia: http://www.geforce.com/geforce-experience/download it updates the drivers for you automatically. Remember to uninstall the previous drivers before installing these. And restart after removing the old and after installing the new. Any more questions and I will help. Obviously I'll try and include the Y4 and Y7 series if you guys have any input. This thread is intended to give us guys trying to get the most out of computers a running start.Since there are varying types of one model distributed it's hard to just SAY one thing, when it could be something COMPLETELY different for ones self. I had worked at Circuit City and participated in the Intel Retail Edge program, designed to inform Retail Associates about the latest from intel, and also give them good deals on Intel based products. I purchased my Y510 as a special batch made for the Retail Edge.   HDD (Hard Disk Drives) Y510 -  250Gb 5400 RPM Hitachi Drive I am comfortable with my 5400RPM HDD since this is by no means a speed demon. You can upgrade it to a 10,000RPM 2.5'' SATA HDD...but battery would most likely suffer from there on out. The most logical upgrade would be 7200RPM HDD, most likely one of larger capacity so that a partitioned backup can be made to mirror the other half. Battery life will be less than the 5400RPM, but life goes on. The differences are marginal at best.  RAM (Random Access Memory) Y510 - 2Gb 667Mhz DDR2 Hynix Memory / Upgraded to 4Gb 800Mhz DDR2 Corsair  If the CPU is the Brain of the computer, then RAM would most certainly be the arms which pick at it. RAM is essent... Read more

Hey friends! I bought my lenovo Y510P almost now a year ago and I have windows 8 64 bit preinstalled on it. Today it gave me a blue screen out of no where (I was messing with the Virtual box before it did - if this detail is going to help) and it got stuck at 100% on repairing. So I turned it off by pressing the power button for couple seconds. After that it tried getting into repairing state couple times but kept giving blue screens and restarting and trying again. I shut it down again and now, it won't even boot, the key set lights up for 1 sec, it gives a single beep sound and then it closes.I can get to safe boot or any bios settings. I tried the recovery button but the same thing happens... I really need help guys, would appreciate any possible solutions

Answer:Lenovo Y510 won't boot

Welcome,
Do you have the installation disks and can you boot from one of them?
Or did you follow the recommendation to make a rescue disk which you can boot from?

Hi,  I recently bought a new Y510 and it is partitioned into a C and D drive.  The C has 29.2 GB and the D 104.  I believe my operating system is supposed to be on the C and all of my other files video, documents, etc. are suppoed to go onto the D.  However everything is being directed to the C and it is now full.  What do I do to automatically direct to the D drive and how can I take what shouldn't be on the C and direct it to the D. As you've probably figured out I'm a novice at this.  Thanks for your help.

Hi!! I need help. I've installed Vista x64. And now i can't find drivers, for example, for network interface, integrated video card, and other.Where are i can find this drivers???

Answer:Lenovo Y510 and Vista x64

Wifi is Intel (3945) or Broadcom (4311), Integrated Video is Intel (X3100/ GM965), LAN is Broadcom (59xx).You can find them on manufaturers sites. But you'll not be able to find an Energycut ACPI 64-bit driver because it is made only by Lenovo and for now it is not existant.

intel onboard graphic drivers : http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/en/DriversDownloads/drivers_show_1938.htmlnvidia graphic drivers : http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/en/DriversDownloads/drivers_show_1940.html you can try to download drivers from y530 or y550 download page.just make sure the drivers manufacturer is same.

Hello. I upgraded my Lenovo ideapad Z370 to Windows 8. As a result I had to upgrade the Lenovo Energy Management to 8.0.2.20. I noticed that the button that controls the fans no longer works. The dust removal option is also missing from the main Energy Management window (no blue panel) . The previous version of Lenovo Energy Management which is only compatible with Windows 7 had a dust removal along with a efficient thermal dissipation and silent mode and it worked fine on the z370. Are there any plans for this to be fixed? Thanks!

Answer:Dust Removal option missing in Lenovo Energy Management 8.0.2.20 (z370)

I have the same problem on my Lenovo Z470 - no dust removel in Windows 8 Lenovo Energy Management driver.

I have the y510p SLI - 2x 750M w/ 16gb ram and an i7.Recently the power started losing connection to the laptop so i have to find different ways of plugging it in, sometimes its powered if i move the cord this way or that. Also at the charging port if i slightly push it, it charges. Does that mean the port in my laptop is getting loose? or is it the wire? because I've had it for quite a while. Maybe the wires are giving out - breaking because of being bent over the 2 years I've had it.

Answer:Lenovo y510 P Power problem

I would say that it is the charging cord. You should buy a new charger.

There is no definite way of knowing if the port in the laptop is faulty or not BUT since it charges good once the connection is made, I would say that the laptop port is fine.

Another thing and this is my experience. Do not push the charger in the laptop too much, do not try to twist or bend the connector inside the laptop. It can lead to permanent damage to the laptop port. I am saying this coz I have experienced this and learnt my lesson the hard way.

Buy a new charger (170W) and have peace of mind.

Afternoon all, Yesterday, I discovered that my Y510 no longer wanted to boot into  Vista without being connected to an AC Power source. All it does is hang at the vista progress bar before the welcome screen. The battery appears to be fully charged and I've made no recent changes to it. (I installed Ubuntu on second partiton 2 months ago but that's been working fine.) I've also been able to boot into my Linux partition with no issues on battery power alone. Anybody have any ideas as to what's going on?

Answer:Lenovo Y510 does not boot without AC Power.

Maybe some BIOS update will help?

I have tried to get software support from levono for y510 and am unable to get to the site. I like to checkfor the latest updates to for drivers and bios updates however the site is not working as it has been in thepast 6 months I have owned  the y501. It seems as though owners of idea pads are not supported asthose with thinkpads. Makes me believe I have bought a cheap second rate laptop. Lenovo are you ashamed of this product?

Answer:lenovo software support for y510

Thinkpads are an IBM product and Lenovo just bought them. Ideapads are fully new developed by Lenovo products. That explains difference in support/drivers/etc.
