Loose Ideapad hinge

Question: Loose Ideapad hinge

Hi- I've had my ideapad since late february. Its been a great laptop and I've generally been very happy with it.Unfortunately, about a month ago the hinge that connects the screen to the base of the laptop has become so loose that the LCD portion of the laptop will no longer stay upright without being propped up against something solid. I purchased it from Newegg and they don?t except returns after the first month for laptops. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

Preferred Solution: Loose Ideapad hinge

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Loose Ideapad hinge

Hi, Bets thing to do at this point is to send the laptop for service, never thought that an IdeaPad would have such an issue. Call tech support and have it repaired or replaced.

Hi guys, Would like to ask any of your beloved T400 starting to develop slop or 'play'  on the top of the LCD after opening the Thinkpad already ?

Answer:T400 hinge getting loose

The Thinkpad hinge are renowned for its toughness any play or sloppiness in a new hinge, means problems, even my old 4 year old already dead T42 have no play in the hinge whatsoever. My T400 does not have any play in the hinge whatsoever.  I had a hinge in mine T60 replaced under warranty due to the play, and now it is wonderful once again.

Question: Loose Laptop Hinge

I notice my left laptop hinge is loose, as the screen has become wobbly and it is starting to become harder to open or close it. I am scared if I do not fix this the continous stress on the hinge will eventually cause the lcd screen to fall off the hinge and that if I do not fix this the other hinge will wear out faster by having to do all the work of the loose hinge.  I have looked everywhere online and could not find a video of how to get to the screws on my laptop.  Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I have a Spectra 360 laptop.  Bought about a year ago.  Although the hinge still holds my screen open it is loose at the internal connection.  One side came loose first, now both sides move about 2 mm.  Is there anything I can do? (The loose part is on the keyboard half.  Where the hinge connects to the screen seems tight.)

I have had my HP Omen for about 8 or 9 months and slowly the hinge is becoming loose on the screen. So basically if i grab the screen to tilt downward it will move about and inch forward before the grips the hinge and start moving. LIkewise if I hold the laptop by its base and tilt it back and forth the screen will loosely flop back and forth about an inch without affecting the position of the actual hinge. Please advice me on how I can rectify this. I plan to have the computer for at least 2 or 3 more years. Best regards, Scott Georgson

Question: X230T Loose hinge?

Answer:X230T Loose hinge?

Hi Bjc92,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m really sorry to hear that hinges of your Lenovo X230T had become loose after continuous switching between tablet and laptop mode.

Please refer to pages 67 & 103 in this user guide to see how to remove or fix hinge cap/ hinges.

Also, note that the hinges on laptops often become loose through wear and tear and will result in a screen that will not stay in place. In that case, tightening the hinges alone might not help resolve the issue. The hinges may have to be replaced.

Hope this information helped!

Best regards,
Mithun.

The right hinge on my M 30 is to loose. I have tryed to dismantle the keyboard without succes, what to do?

Answer:Hinge on Satellite M30 is loose

Hi there,

the problem is that you cannot repair it only by tighten some screws. If the hinge on this model is loose then you will need new hinges and to exchange them, the whole machine must be disassembled since the hinges are partially under the palm rest and on the lcd installed.

So, if you want to fix that you should search for an technician which can fix it. Better solution would be to contact an authorized service partner:

Hi HP, Product Name and Number:            HP Pavilion g7t Notebook PC  LX514AVOperating System installed (if applicable):       Windows 7 64-bitError message (if any):         NoneAny changes made to your system before the issue occurred:Routine updates from Windows I'd like to start off by saying that I am a big fan and a good customer of your laptops! I had been enjoying my Pavilion but unfortunately, that was short-lived. Even though I am a very caring user of electronics I was surprised when one day the left hinge for my Pavillion's lid came loose (I think a screw might have fallen off). From researching online I understand that this issue has been happening, a lot, to others as well. Before it gets worse and affects an otherwise well functioning computer, if you could please fix this issue. Before this issue occurred to my Pavillion, I have been regularly recommending HP laptops to family and friends. Going forward, as well, I would like to do so. I hope you are able to expeditiously fix my Pavilion's issue.

One of the hinges on my two week old Yoga 11s is looser than the other. As I open the lid and push it back, the left hinge rotates somewhat, but the right one stays firm. Finally, once I reach 180 degrees, they level out. I can also equalise them by closing the screen back up somewhat after opening it. It's not a huge difference between the hinges, but I'm aware of it, and it's kind of annoying given i've only just bought it.  Is this single-hinge looseness normal? Is it worth getting serviced, or are both hinges going to be as loose as barn doors in a few months time?

The screw on the back under the right side hinge has become loose and fallen out twice.I put it back in the first time nice and tight and tightened all the other screws. It just fell out again!  This is with gentle handling.  And it took less than a month to wiggle loose.Would using a little Locktite blue on the screw when I put it back void my warrantee?

Answer:Y50-70 loose bottom screw under hinge.

No, the use of Locktite blue won't void the warranty and is probably a very good idea since this is a reoccurring problem. Be sure to just use a tiny dab on the threads.

The left hand hinge on my wife's HP Spectre X360 is loose. It looks like the right hand hinge is taking most of the weight and the screen leans slightly as a result of this. It has been like this for a number of months, but is starting to get worse. Unfortunately, I didn't report it previously and the warranty ran out just over 2 weeks ago. My concern is that not only is the left hand hinge getting looser, the additonal weight on the right hand hinge will lead excessive wear and the risk that this hinge will fail as well. is there any way HP will repair the faulty hinge, as it appears to be a known issue.

The right hinge of my HP pavillion m6 1035dx entertainment notebook pc. What is the most economic way of fixing this simple issue. I figure I would go straight to HP as, business to customer, to ensure a better customer experience that is more frictionless with less obstacles. I bought this laptop as manufactured refurbed and assume maybe the hinge was loose in the first place because I have kept good care. I plan on upgrading the internal hardware as well but I need to make sure that the hinges and rest of external casing is dexterous and durable. Moreover, I can't find a reputable third party that I trust. So, I am going directly to HP. Please reply to me and give what options I can use. I figured I can just send my Laptop to HP and HP fixes it and sends it back or if there is a reputable third party HP can recommend. However, I strongly believe that HP is a better option in both HP and my interests. Third party is just a middle man that costs more not only for me but as well as for HP. Thus, no need for a middleman and I strongly believe in a simple customer experience and customer relations. otherwise, HP will be tarnished in customer service. I can't even talk to a representative about my issue. At least, from my experience on the Website and is just forums. Please reply back on my hinge issue it is a very simple task and should be easy peasy on a two way road of customer to brand image.

If I move the screen a bit, it comes on. Any movement of the screen causes it to either flicker or go blank. I connected the laptop to a external monitor and it works okay. Can someone tell me what might be inside the laptop that would cause this? Is there a switch or contact that tells the system that the laptop is open? I hesitate to try opening the back or to send it out for repair before understanding what I', facing. This machine also has a tendency to run hot. Is that the norm? Is it normal for some of the hinges to be slightly loose on the yoga 900? I wasn't sure since not all of them are loose. Also, I have one of the caps on the edge loose as well which I can take off and put back on (without it falling off easily). Not sure if it's worth sending it in... still on warranty. There is no cracking sounds etc. though and it is working properly.

It might be best to send it in to get the entire hinge replaced under warranty. See this thread about the same issue on a Yoga 3 Pro where Amy of Lenovo suggested this course of action:

Hi, I bought my HP Spectre x360 on February 1st, 2016. In the past few weeks I have noticed that both hinges have become loose and pull away from the lower portion of the computer. I am worried it will break completely in the next few months. I tried going to the support page on the HP website but contantly get a 404 error when I select my computer model. Hi: I received x1 carbon touch in late December. First I ran into touch screen issue. This issue was fixed by running a calibration program I got from my internal Lenovo support. Yesterday when I opened the laptop I heard a cracking noise and the hinge separated from the cover and screen is also loose. The screen is not cracked and laptop still works.Whenever I open the laptop the screen separates from the bezel. I push them together and they snap but always separate when I open or close the laptop.I showed it to my technician at work and he told me that warranty will not cover this issue as it is physical damage. There was not physical damage to my X1 carbon touch. Now we have to pay for new lcd bezel, hinge kit and rear LCD cover. These may be expensive and I have no way of knowing if this will happen again., After using Lenovo PC's for the past 10 years this is unexpected. I saw one more person who can the exact same problem. Let me know if you have any suggestion for me.

Answer:x1 carbon loose hinge bezel

Had the same problem on my daughter's X1 Carbon Touch (34xx). Disassembled per the hardware manual to see what was wrong. Turns out that the two right-hand-side hinge screws had detached from the cover because the brass fitting into which they were screwed had become separated from the cover (they were just wedged into a plastic hole), effectively freeing the cover. Not impressed with the design. Am investigating brass-to-plastic glues...

I've had my y550p for 8 months now, and I just recently started noticing a huge ammount of wobbling. I just called in customer support to send it in for a fix, but the guy wasn't very clear on whether or not I could remove my harddrive before sending it in. He just said remove the battery and a/c adapter. I'm pretty sure I can remove the harddrive but I just want to double check to make sure. Also, After my warranty wears off, I eventually want to be able to fix a wobbly screen myself. Does anyone know where I can find a set of instructions to tighten the hinges?

I've had my Y550 for about 3 months now and everythings been fine with the construction of the computer. However, I bought this computer because the screen hinge on my last computer slowly broke down to the point where it was difficult to keep the screen in one position because it flapped around so much. Now, only 3 months in, the screen hinge is loosening quickly,, and moves back and forth over an inch, or several degrees. I thought this was a good computer. Now I'm worried the same thing that took 3 years to happen to my old laptop is going to happen within 6 months on this one. Is this fixable with a quick fix or can i send it in on warranty?

I recieved my HP ENVY Sleekbook 6-1100 se 2 years ago. I was very careful with it and never dropped it. About a year after, the corner near the right hinge began to come loose everytime I open and close the laptop and it is getting worse. The hinge itself looks like it is starting to break also. I searched and I see that HP offered after warranty repair since its a commen issue in this kind of models.

Hello, I bought the T61 in 2008 with 3 year warranty in USA. My T61 is showing the loose hinge problem which has been encountered by many other forum users. Right now I'm in Chennai, India and the Lenovo warranty center in Alwarpet, Chennai says the hinge problem is not covered under warranty. Could any one from Lenovo confirm this for me. Thank you, Thaniks

Answer:T61 Loose Hinge - Does the warranty cover this issue?

Well i was once told that Lenovo don't cover hinge problem by the Lenovo service personnel, but then on my second attempt and through some coercion they said yes. Mark_Lenovo did mention that the loose hinge is within the normal repair parameter, while many people in the USA have the hinge problem repaired under warranty. This is the message that Mark_Lenovo sent me regarding the issue of hinge and warranty. ------------------------ The hinges should be covered under warranty.  Sometimes the staking of the pin inside the hinge fails - we have several designs - some are "D" shaped which can become rounded, and some are epoxied I believe.   It is also possible that the screws have loosened which hold the hinge to the LCD frame or to the chasis - the locktite did not hold.  If you are in warranty, I would expect us to cover this unless there were visible signs of abuse (like dent or abrasion from being dropped). ----------------------------

Hello to all,

I have a 7 yr old Sony Vaio GR370 laptop with a loose hinge. When
the laptop is open at any viewable angle, there is about 1-1.5in.
of "play" on the LCD portion of the lid. It stays up fine - it's more of an
annoyance then anything else.

Is there any way to tighten/repair/replace the hinges ?

thanks in advance !

Answer:Solved: Sony Vaio - Loose hinge

I'm just guessing, but I think you're missing a retaining screw that holds the hinge post in place.
Look at the back of the machine to see if there is a place for a screw that is missing.

Hi,

the hinge on my 2410-603 notebook has worked loose to the point where it will not stay up unless i lean it against something. I was wondering if i am able to tightenen this somehow or whether it would need replacing. Anyone have a guide of how to get at the hinge??, or anyone know how much a replacement one is likely to cost??.

I have searched on the net however havn't been able to find anything as yet.

Thank you in advance,
Jamie

Answer:Loose/Broken hinge on my Satellite 2410-603

Hi,

unfortunately it?s not possible to tighten it, so you will have to purchase new hinges.
I suggest you following:

Look at ebay for such machine you have (maybe a defective would be good) and let a technician exchange it or ask an authorized service partner how many an exchange of the hinges will cost.
If you need a link to find a ASP then you can try it here:

Good evening, i own a X200t on which the hinge appears to be kind of loose. When opening the screen and letting it in a position before 90 degrees, it falls back some centimeters (3-4 cm). Also, when standing on a table in laptop-mode, the display is wobbling with every little movement of the desk. It's annoying (esp. when using it in train) compared to my former X200s, which was rock-solid. Is this typical or should i call Lenovo Service ? Kind regards, pepun.

Answer:X200t - Display wobbling - Hinge loose?

I don't think that's normal.  I have a new X200t and the display does not wabble like that, although it's *nowhere* near as sturdy as a T-series that I have access to.

Dear Lenovo team,  Please help me out here. I have Lenovo G40-80 laptop which I had bought roughly an year ago. I had given it for maintainence and cleaning at a lenovo centre. Now the status of this laptop is its screws have started getting loose and the hinge on the right side of screen has come out. I checked it on lenovo international and it is a much more common problem than anticipated. Apparently, there is some issue with design. Please help me here. The laptop is breaking apart and even though it is under warranty, I have been told it is not covered. Please understand that it is not my fault, but according to lenovo's international forum a design fault. Urgently need help!!!

Hi,  I have had my spextre for just over a year now. About 6 months or so ago I started to notice the screen wobble a little more, I played it off as nothing. Not so long ago I notice the left hinge is loose, and that is the source of the wobble on the screen. It seems as though the left hinge can be pushed in towards the laptop a couple of mm signlalling to me it is not properly secured. Is there a fix for this? TIA!

I purchased a Spectre x360 almost two years ago (Sept. 2015) and the laptop worked fine. After about two months, I noticed the hinges did not line up as cleanly but the laptop still opened, closed and folded back without issue. I recently opened my laptop and noticed that the right hinge is shaky and that the screen wobbles a lot because of it. This seems to be a purely physical issue as I "pop" the hinge back into place and it secures. While the screen is still shaky, I am less worried about it this way. I have never dropped my laptop, haven't travelled with it and it sits flat on my desk 99% of the time. How should I proceed? Thanks for your help in advance.

To any staff, Long story short, the hinge on my Thinkpad T61p were getting loose (it was moving back and forth) and upon a quick serach, apparently it was a known issue on these laptops. As my warranty was nearing its end, I quickly called Lenovo to have this repaired. Because I was promised that this repair is going to be finished within 5-7 business days, I decided to go ahead and send it away depite that my major requires it 24/7. I've received a box next day and I sent it away on Jan 9th, 2008. I called in today to see what's happening but this employee, who rather got really irritated that I called in, couldnt find my info for 30 mins. After finally finding my info, he mentioned that the hinge is backordered. I politely asked him when I can get the laptop back but he said it could take days.. weeks or possibly up to months.  The sole reason why I sent this laptop for a repair was because they said the turnaround repair would be fast and I believed his word. It's quite dissapointing to hear these kind of delays in repair process when I need this laptop ASAP. There are actually 2 ongoing cases regarding my laptop but none of them are being solved at the moment. The 6 cell battery, which just died a few days ago, was replaced by a 9 cell from Lenovo. I called about this issue as well and hopefully they can get this straightened out. How long does it take for a "back ordered" parts to arrive at the depot?  So I got a brand new13 inch HP Spectre X360 on August 24. I really wanted this laptop over the Mac because I felt it was lighter than a Pro, more powerful than an Air, had a great display, plus was more vessatile than the two due to its rotation capability. To my disappointment, I quickly found out the trackpad seemed loose (you could feel a slight rattle by lightly pressing down the middle). 15 days later, I exchanged it at Best Buy only to find, low and behold, my new one having the same exact issue with the trackpad. Not only that, but I feel that even the screen hinge is ever so slightly loose. Not that it moves in laptop, tent, or presentation mode -- but when I type quick I feel the screen shake just a tiny bit. Moreover, when in tablet mode, the two halves of the computer (the screen and back of the keyboard underneath it) don't stick together. They pry apart about an inch. I called HP and they said it could be my particular local Best Buy bought a bad bunch or something? I did see other threads on here with people complaining about the trackpad, and some have suggested that there are some 'malfunctioned' unitss and that if one were to keep exchanging, they would eventually get a good one. I also have slight cackling of speakers without headphones when playing music. So should I exchange for a second time? Would Best Buy be upset -- do they have a limit on this sort of thing? And if it helps, I have the three year warranty/Geek Squad tech support package... Read more

Hi, It seems that others have had this problem with a loose hinge too. My screen started fading to white (with faint vertical lines). At first I could jiggle the display and the display would correct but over time it's gotten worse. My computer runs fine otherwise, but I need to use an external monitor or I can't see anything. I'm suspecting a loose connection but can't find a good video showing how to fix this. My computer is no longer under warranty. Any advice or help pls?

I have had my laptop for just over a year and I have never transported it anywhere, as I just leave it on my desk. However, when I opened up my laptop today, the left hinge came off loose. Now the left corner of the screen is very loose from the screen border. Would HP be able to fix it, even though the warranty for this laptop has just finished 2 months ago? I am concerned, because I haven't done anything to it and it was very sudden. Hello, The hinge on my HP ENVY TouchSmart 15 has been loose (or broken?) for quite some time. It caused the bottom of my laptop to split open on the side which has the power button (left side).  The laptop was not dropped or damaged in other ways, before I knew it I noticed the issue. First I noticed the screen feeling loose, but only recently I paid closer attention and saw the hinge was loose. Other than the hinge issue, the computer is in good condition and works great. I would hate to lose it because of the hinge. From reading the forum, it seems to be a very common issue with this particular type of laptop. Therefore I am wondering if anything has or can be done to help us who have encountered this issue. Thank you!

I bought my Hp envy about 18 months ago and a few months ago the hinge started getting loose and I noticed that a few screws were missing. This was a few weeks after It had come back for repair for a bios issue and recently I noticed that the actual bottom plastic was starting to crack and eventually the plastic was sticking out and I struggled to push it back in like I usually did. Ive seen that this issue is extremely common with these laptops and most have said in the HP forums that its a design issue. So I don't want to continue using the laptop in case something major gets damaged. Ive seen in other forums that some users have had there laptops replaced but all im wanting is a quick easy fix. Thanks

I recently purchased the latest Yoga 900 from the Canadian Microsoft store (online).  It is the only option for a 2-in-1 in Canada that you can order with 16GB RAM + 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD.  The laptop arrived quickly and everything is working as expected.  On the centre of the wristwatch hinge there is a type of mesh that goes from front to back that covers a portion of it. The mesh is not centered properly on my unit and it slightly protrudes out of the back of the hinge.  I realise that this is a minor issue, but I'm within Microsoft's 30 day return/exchange period.  The hinge does not appear to be loose, but i've only had the laptop for 3 days now. I took some pictures to help illustrate the issue and I'm curious to see if anyone else has noticed the samething.??????

As the title describes - a screw on my laptop has come loose and gone missing and now the bezel (the thin plastic cover surrounding the keyboard in case my use of bezel is wrong) has separated from the lower half of the casing on the upper right corner of my E145, above the kensington lock and mains input. The LCD hinge is now loose and lifts up when moved, the kensington lock housing also moves with it. This image shows the problem - that's the right side hinge, the separation can be seen at the top of the case and to the right of the kensington lock port, on the hinge itself. I haven't tampered with the screw in any way but did notice the bezel wasn't flush with the battery on this side (it is on the other hinge), so the screw has been loose for some time and finally worked its way free. I posted this thread before I realised the screw had gone but I might as well keep it up (if only to remind anyone else with this problem to check the screws ) but I have two questions: 1. In the event we're unable to find the screw, will it be possible to procure a replacement from Lenovo? When looking at the laptop from the bottom, the screw is located in the top left corner just above the rubber foot and battery release switch 1. 2. If the screw has come loose because the threading is damaged then this will need to be repaired. My laptop's warranty has not yet expired, will the warranty cover these repairs?

Hey There, Dropped in to get some thoughts from you guys. I bought my Y510p SLI in 2014 with 3 years of warranty and last week I noticed that even tho I plug in the adapter, sometimes it drains the battery and shows that no adapter is attached. After some "investigation" to the issue I found that the PowerJack connector is loosened a bit. Since I have a whole year of warranty I thought I'd send it in and they could repair it. Well that was the plan anyway because it doesn't go that smooth and I'm actually starting to think; heck I'll change it myself void my warranty but it takes ~15minutes.... My worries: What if it's still not the PowerJack? Back a little, why am I thinking changing it myself and voiding 1year of warranty? Quite simple: the service representative won't get in touch with me, they won't answer my emails, there's no phone number so you can't call them, and the service has numerous unhappy customers who wait for their devices to be repaired for months. I have no such long time because I'm working from this notebook 5 business days is the absolute maximum, so considering a repair that takes 15 minutes for myself (not an in disassemblying notebooks but compared to MSI this notebook is kid's toy) I plan not to wait weeks for a lazy professional. Now, a brand new PowerJack for y510p goes for $17 on amazon, + 2-3weeks for shipping + 15 minutes of assembly IF it's just the connector and not something more serious like broken plastic for the screw holding it in p... Answer:Loose PowerJack IdeaPad Y510p SLI

Since the DC-In power jack is loose, it is mostly likely the cause of your problem.  Chances are the power jack itself is broken which is not an uncommon problem.  Since the power jack assembly is separate from the motherboard the problem is isolated from the motherboard, although that doesn't rule out broken screw mounts as you mentioned.   Page #63 of your model's Hardware Maintenance Manual shows the location of the power jack (assembly) in question.  Here is a link to that manual for your reference if you do not have it already.....

As for voiding the warranty, I will leave that decision up to you.  I suspect that if the power assembly or the power assembly mounts are broken the repair wouldn't be covered by warranty anyways unless you had the accidental damage coverage as well.

IdeaPad owners, have you noticed if the frame around your LCD display is loose? I just noticed this on mine today. If you tap the black frame on the right, left, and top sides, you can clearly notice that the frame is not totally glued to the computer. But what really caught my attention was the fact that the bottom part can actually be pulled with a fingernail allowing you to see an internal piece of metal. Shouldn't the frame be firmly attached on all sides? And with this bottom plastic part so loose, can it bring complications down the road? Is this something warranty would cover, and if so, is it worth having them fix it?

Answer:Loose frame (IdeaPad Y430)

This is probably just a random manufactures defect. You should call support, or do an online chat with them from here. If it is a defect then the warrenty will cover it, for free.

Hi there!  I purchased a Ideapad 710s about 9 months ago. I haven't used the USB ports very much in this time (maybe once a fortnight max). The right plastic hinge of my S10-3 laptop broke off for no reason. I always close my netbook properly and always take good care of it. This netbook has been with me for almost 2 years already. What would happen if I didn't repair my laptop right away? Is there a way to repair it without spending too much, I mean it's just a hinge. I read from other forums that repairing that part could cost approximately $300.

Answer:IdeaPad S10-3 broken hinge

hi unbeatable.

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

If you hear squeaky sound when you open your LCD screen or you feel that the left / right hinges are getting loose then I recommend you have it serviced as it can damage the bottom platic if left unrepaired.

You can get spare here:
Lenovo Ideapad S10-3 Left and Right Hinge Set

And you can follow this diassembly guide or this video as a reference. If you're not comfortable opening the laptop, you can have it service at a local computer repair store.

Note:
Use ESD protection and be careful in diassembling your PC as it has parts that are easily breakable.

Hope this helps.

Question: Ideapad y530 Hinge

Today my right hidge broke on my y530, so the screen keeps flopping down and doesn't close correctly. I would fix it myself, I'm A+ certified and do a lot of repair work. However, I can't locate any possible means to even remove the monitor, nor have I ever replaced hinges before. I tried locating some parts for it and then I tried looking for repair centers. I didn't find anything. Can any body offer me any direction on this matter?

Answer:Ideapad y530 Hinge

if you have valid warranty, contact lenovo support for replacement, if you replace hinge by yourself, you may have trouble with warranty in the future. ( void )

I know that many people are having problems with broken hinges. My laptop is out of warranty and it seems I can't even talk with support unless I purchase premium support or it's just not apparent to me on how to speak with someone without premium. Anyway, through looking through this forum and online, it doesn't seem like support is a nightmare and I've heard of nightmare stories in which support has had laptops for extensive periods of time. My questions is, has anyone had their laptop hinge fixed/replaced succesfully by Lenovo? Just seems to me that going through tech support is not a really good option, especially if that support has to be paid for with no reasonably godd outcome. Thanks to nayone at all who replies.

Answer:IdeaPad U530 Broken hinge

Hi Dshively ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

I would have to leave to others about repairs but as I have gathered reports about after-repair calls , depot repair team are doing good.

Regarding the issue that you currently have , I would still suggest you calling the technical support team specially if there was no accidents or mishandling on users end. They would be able to provide you options.

When did the warranty expired ? You may also check here or if you still have the receipt .

Tech Support is available 24/7 , do give them a try to help you.

I bought the laptop in April 2016. Started having issues closing the laptop (made grating noise and felt like something inside was crunching) and screen around the hinge sortof came off around March 2017. Was in middle of submitting my PhD thesis so couldn't take it to repair rightaway. A week later, the plastic part outside the hinge broke off and hinge completely came off. Took it to JB HI-Fi on 14th April 2017 and they sent pictures to Lenovo. There are no signs of external damage, laptop has been used and taken care of properly and Lenovo refuses to cover it under warranty. Absolutely unacapptable!! Called Lenovo customer support on 5th May, technician asked for addtional photos of the hinge from all angles to have another assessment. Currently awaiting a call back from that assessment. Looked at other blogs and saw other people having same issues with Lenovo IDeapad 100. Will be reporting the issue to consumer protection affairs as clearly not an issue associated with mishandling or external damage. So frustrating that less than a year and have to deal with this.

I am wondering if anyone has purchased a N580 Lenovo Laptop and if they have had any issues with the Hinges. My husband purchased me one in October 2013. The laptop worked great until about 2 months ago when the corners where the hinges open up cracked open exposing the inside of the machine. Is there anywhere I can get help fixing this problem.  As it stands, I cannot be without a computer as I am going to school online and need to have my computer. Lenovo will not do anything about the problem, even though it seems this is a problem with many of the Laptops from them. Thanks in advance.

Got my laptop after almost 2 weeks of placing the order. Although the wait was worth it, just after third day I found a crack on the hinge. I was extremely cautious in handling the laptop, mind you, and i believe this weather was present since day 1. I know the crack is really small, but i'm afraid of the integrity of the hinge itself. Not sure if I could claim a return or exchange. http://goo.gl/6dsidu

so im going to have to fix my hinge myself... problem is i see multiple hinge types when i go to order. can anyone who had this problem send me a picture of the correct hinge type or even better send me a page where its on sale so i can buy it http://www.ukpcsparts.com/lenovo-ideapad-u310-touch-lcd-display-hinges-p-41349.html?zenid=0e57435dbf... or http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Lenovo-IdeaPad-U310-Touch-LCD-Display-Hinges-Left-and-Right-/18162867654...  these are the two types .... please help

Answer:RE: ideapad u310 touch hinge

I'm not an owner of your model, but in looking over links you have provided, I believe the picture shown in the eBay sale is incorrect.  The hinges pictured in UK PC Parts link would be the correct ones when compared to Page #90 of the diagram shown in your model's Hardware Maintenance Manual and the pictures shown in the additional eBay search I did.  Here are the results...

eBay search:

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.XIdeaPad+U310+hinge...

Hardware Maintenance Manual:

https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/ideapad_u310_u410_hmm_1st_edition_mar_2012_english....

If you are still interested in the hinges offered by that eBay seller you might want to send them a message and have them verify that the picture is correct for what they are selling.

My daughters hinge broke 1 month out of warranty.  Can't believe there is an abundence of these issues with no recall.  I have an extended warranty with my credit card company but can't figure out where to send for repair.  No one I call seems to be able to help and website is useless when out of warranty.  Please advise!

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Have you tried using the local Lenovo Authorized Service Provider Locator at the link below?  The locator will find an authorized Lenovo Service Provider near where you live.  Just enter in your city and check the box for Warranty Service Provider.  You will then get a listing of local places that service Lenovo computers.  Prior to visiting a local service center please call ahead as some listings may not be up to date.

http://bplocator.lenovo.com/

I would also suggest that you contact your credit card company on the terms of their extended warranty.  Do they need to pay the service center directly or can you pay for the repair and then submit your receipt to the card company for reimbursement?  If it is the later, Lenovo Support should be able to arrange for the repair.

I had bought ideapad z580 lenovo laptop nearly about 1.5 years ago with warranty of 3 years but alongwith some conditions applied. In 1st year, there was some problem with the laptop's right hinge. The lid couldn't close completely because of some internal design issues and caused damage with the lower case. I got it repaired without spending even a penny. But after 1.5 years, again the same problem has arised. I called the customer care but they told to get help from the nearby lenovo authorised centers. I tried to get help from there but they are trying to charge me (about Rs. 3000 to 5000)saying that it is covered under damage and cannot be repaired free of cost. Its true. But as the damage is not caused by my side, its the fault of the design. So, lenovo should fix my issues free of cost as my 3 years warranty is still valid. Could anyone please help me with this?

I've had my Ideapad for 10 months or so now. Well looked after, no dents or marks. It's stored in a protected padded case. One day I open the screen and a loud crack. A screw goes flying out and the plastic frame is separated. I send it in for repair and Lenovo are refusing to cover it under warranty due to physical damage.Said damage is inside of the frame where the hinge is.  I'm trying to dispute that this damage is caused by the hinge breaking, the latop is in perfect condition otherwise. I'm soo frustrated as I know i've looked after the latop. I'm looking at going to an omudsman/trading standards. It's only 74 to fix, but I'm just disgusted with the customer service. I get a repeated reply reply saying external damage to laptop, so not covered. Even though there is no external damage theres just a mark to the inside where the hinge broke.Any help here?  I've seen another post about the hinge broken on same model on this forum, I really do think they are designed/built poorly. Thanks

Hi,

I have Ideapad U400, purchased in last September. Nearly 6-7 month later, I started facing multiple issues in laptop like,

Touchpad was not working properly, and eventually it stops working completely.
Battery was showing warning
USB is giving problem while copying large amount of data (File not found message, and USB Drive seems empty in explorer)
Laptop hinge starts giving a 'click' type noise

It was not a pleasant experience to face these many issues in initial few months of purchase. I contacted Lenovo service center, and submitted my laptop for repair with all these four issues and stating that they can format machine if required. I have already tried by re-installing the USB and touchpad drivers.

Model - Ideapad U400
Laptop serial no - WBxxxxxxxxMO No - WB0203190Q
Warranty up to - 21-09-2013
Service Report Form number: 112095
Place - Singapore

Touchpad and battery were replaced, many thanks for that. For USB, I got answer that I should format machine and it should resolve it. I asked why solution was not tried even once or tested when machine is here since two weeks. There was no answer, other than that please try it yourself. I tried, but problem is still the same. Now it is furstrating to travel for 3 hours and submit machine again for few days.

For Hinge, I have been told that it can not be repaired and concerned department will call me for this. Few days later, I got the call. I have been ... Read more

As posted on page 3 of this discussion, a solution has been offered to customers within warranty whose laptops display hinge mount failures and have not otherwise been damaged. This information can be found here: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-U-and-S-Series-Notebooks/IdeaPad-U530-Touch-Hinge-struck/m-p/203...

Answer:Re: IdeaPad U530 Touch Hinge struck.

Any updates on the U530 Touch? I am having the same problems as everyone else in these threads 1- a broken hinge and cracked screen. I now have a desktop with no touch screen rather than a laptop with a touch screen, 2 - a lack of response from Lenovo (never got my call within 3 days) and 3 - No local tech will touch it.

Reply from Lenovo Support for my caseWe have received your case that is tied to machine with serial # QBXXXXXXXX. We are currently showing that machine went out of warranty on 7/4/2015. Due to the extreme length since it went out of warranty. At this time Lenovo is not able to offer a free repair on this machine. If we were maybe a few months after it went out of warranty we might have been able to assist. But due to the fact that we are now 11 months out of warranty and we can't cover a machine for such an extended period of time. There has to be a definite end to the warranty. At this time Lenovo will not take any further action on this case. My Response to above messageThank you for your response and looking into this issue at your earliest. Please refer to link here which has listed this issue as widespread issue for Ideapad U530 model and has offered to repair the laptop. Moreover this issue has been widespread issue on your other laptop models as well like U310, U310 touch and U410, U410 touch. This shows that there is design flaw in all of these laptops. Since this is design flaw at company end it will manifest sometime or other. In my case it has happened late since I have been using this laptop with more care comparative to other users who are having same issue earlier in the life of laptop. It is not expected of world class company like Lenovo to keep manufacturing such defective laptop.I have other Lenovo T430 purchased after 3 months of this laptop and it does... Read more
