Lenovo 3000 N100 Battery is Not Charging or Discharging

Question: Lenovo 3000 N100 Battery is Not Charging or Discharging

I have Purchased this Lenovo 3000 N100 Laptop in 2006, and had the Battery Replaced once within the Warranty Period. Today When I Switched On the Laptop I Found that the Battery Indicator Glows for a Moment When I Connect to AC, and Goes Down Immediately. Though I am able to Power On the Laptop on AC, but if the AC Supply is Removed the Laptop Shuts Down. I Checked that the Battery is at 67%.After Searching in this Forum I Understood that this Issue was Discussed in the Past, and For Which there was this MIGR-69671, that Extended the Battery Warranty for another Six Months and also that this Battery Replacement Program has Ended on October 01, 2008.Can anyone Suggest What can be Done in this Situation! Is there any Know Solution for this Problem from Lenovo?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Lenovo 3000 N100 Battery is Not Charging or Discharging

If your current battery was new in 2007, I suspect it is now dead, and no fault of Lenovo's.

The battery just suddenly stopped working on my laptop again. I've already replaced it once with a battery of the same type before. So right now I have two useless batteries. I don't want to buy another battery just to have it die too. The first one lasted about 14 months and the second about 4 months. Does anyone know if the 9 cell battery will completely solve this issue?

have a look at: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-69671  Don't think that the battery type ( 6 or 9 cell) has anything to do with the length of the battery life .....

Can someone please guide me as to what is the maximum upgrade allowed on a Lenovo 3000 N100 0768 35U for RAM. I want to purchase it soon therefore want to find out the maximum possible upgrade and the # of slots available for it. Also about a month back my battery stopped working, its not charging and infact if I have it in place, the laptop frequently shuts down on its own. Any advice in this regards? Thank you. Regards, SJ

Welcome sjang, The maximum memory is 2GB for your N100 and that notebook has a total of 2 slots. Also, you might want to take a look here for more information about troubleshooting battery issues.Message Edited by JohnB on 11-19-2008 06:33 AM

Can anybody tell me how to run a diagnostic on my battery or the charging system on this laptop? PC doctor MIGR-67520 is what Lenovo tech told me to run. The battery test passed but my battery only has 1 % charge. Yank the cord and the computer is dead. Plug it in and the charge light blinks 5 times and goes out. One day my battery works fine with plenty of power. Next day nothing! I have a multimeter if I could find out which pins to test for what voltage I could test myself if there is not a self diagnostic. I see plenty of others are having battery problems. Don't want to spend $150. if its not the battery. Don't really want to spend it if it is but I'm a contractor and I keep blueprints on this laptop for use in the field.  I'd really appreciate some advise here and thanks in advance if you can help me!

Have you tried powering the laptop with the battery off and AC adapter plugged in? Does it work fine then?

Hi, I have the same problem with many 3000 N100 owners on my battery, and was able to get a thread from this forum. However, the local support number which is listed for my country, the Philippines ( 1800 11100724) is not of any help. It directs me to another 1800 - number which does not seem to be working. Can you please help me on this so I can have my eligibility to the battery replacement program be validated? I know you have helped a lot of Lenovo users like me before. Many thanks.

Answer:L 3000 N100 Battery not Charging

Following the release of the service tip, which standardizes the terms and time period underwhich these batteries can be replaced, I can no longer provide individual exceptions.

The best thing to do, is probably for us to help find an authorized servicer in your country, and we should track down the phone number.   I checked our support site and it lists this same number along with hours of operation.  Were you calling within those hours?  If not, try during the hours.    If so, and the number is no longer valid, please let me know and we will investigate it and take appropriate action.

This is the third battery I've gone through.  After 2 weeks of it working fine, it has lost the ability to charge.  The icon says it is plugged in but not charging.  If I unplug it the power goes down and when I try to replug it in, it still says plugged in but not charging.  It's now at 24% power and I'm not sure what to do.  From what I can tell from research, it seems that there was a problem with this particular model's battery (I have the 0768 model).  But obviously, I'm way past warranty.  Is there anything I can do to revive my battery or get Lenovo to send me a new one?  I am using a 65W AC adaptor, by the way.

I inherited a little used 3000 n100 almost 3 years ago.  Like many others I found the battery rather poor, but it kept working sufficiently for home use mostly on the mains supply.  Recently on battery it was achieving only about 12 minutes use and would suddenly seem to go from about 90% charge to almost zero and force the machine to hibernate.  It's a 3000 n100 type 0768 6VG, running Windows XP. Yesterday I uninstalled and reinstalled the Lenovo Power Management Driver for Windows XP (61ku06ww) from the Lenovo site.  Following that, the battery now seems to discharge normally and gave about an hour (quite good considering it's >3 years old).So you might like try this.  I've no idea whether it's why things got better, nor whether it will stay OK.Perhaps the Lenovo moderators can add comments? In all the adverse comment about these batteries, there didn't seem to be much about what may be a factor in the relatively short serviceable life.  If you take the battery out just after using the PC, you'll notice it is quite warm just along the area close to the connector.  Since lithium batteries don't like heat, maybe the packaged electronic board is heating the nearest cell or two more than the others leading to premature failure or life shortening, emphasised in warm climates?

My Lenovo 3000 N100 battery died two months after the warranty period. I send in my notebook for the re-imaging and was told that the battery was not covered under the extended 3 years warranty.  While reading this forum, found out that Lenovo did issue a statement on the battery.  Does anyone have a copy of the battery statement as I wanted to check whether does my battery S92P1185Z1ZBXXX fits under the category? My previous Thinkpad T2x, T4x series notebook battery last longer than this model.  Has the new battery quality drop? Thanks

Answer:Lenovo 3000 N100 Battery

Some battery was indeed covered by 6 months warranty extension, however that warranty extension program is no longer effective as of Oct 2008.  Also, how many charge cycle has battery gone through and what is the make.

Hello all. I was over on Lenovo's forums, and no one could offer me any input on my situation. I have a Lenovo 3000 n100, and this new battery that I bought on ebay (5200mAh) discharges quickly (according to PC Wizard, it charges to the full 57720 mWh) . It last approximately 1 hour 30 mins (I'm being generous), if I am barely doing anything. I reduced brightness, reduced cpu voltage (0.95v), and disabled many devices (bluetooth, usb controller, etc.). I have calibrated this battery several times. Some things to note: It takes two presses of the power button to turn on the laptop when running on battery, and the battery sits at 0% for several minutes (up to 45 mins). Is this a defective battery? I am thinking that it is, because I have another laptop with a 4400mAh battery, with a little over half of its capacity left (2800mAh), and it holds a better charge than this one. I have a feeling that the seller that sold this to me isn't going to make it easy for me to exchange it. Any input is welcome!

Answer:Lenovo 3000 n100 new ebay battery isn't right

Sounds like the battery is faulty or it was used and its life was diminished.

I just want to show my absolut disagreement with IBM/LENOVO because they don't want to change the defective battery of my lenovo 3000 n100, arguing that it was bought in January 2007 and it's 2 months over the limit of 18 months decided by IBM.If the battery has a MANUFACTURING FAULT, it should be changed, not depending on when it was bought. Moreover, if I buy now a new battery, I have no confidence that the new battery will be ok, as I could be once again absolutly unprotected by IBM, which is supossed to sell products with high quality, in fact that was the reason why I bought my LENOVO, but it seems that it is no longer what it used to be. Consecuently, I will not by more IBM products in the future. kind regards

Answer:lenovo 3000 n100 battery responsability

actually i found this forum recently and i feel glad that here will be the interconnection between the customers and the company.  My lenovo 3000N100 was once  having the same problems as stated in  http://forum.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=N_Series_Lenovo_3000&thread.id=27, during my notebook was under warranty. And i been replaced for a new one.Unfortunately i found that the battery came faulty again, with the same syndromes. Now, i would like to ask, is it the first replaced battery will be considered as the 18 months from the date of replacement ?In addition, the battery came faulty recently, so it can be considered as a special condition. Actually i got send enquiry via lenovo website but do not get any reply.I still keeping the replacement documentation. I sent private message to Mark last night and maybe he is not around, so i do not get any reply yet. Hopefully i will been giving help soon since that battery really important to my notebook. Between, actually i do not think that Lenovo Malaysia give the correct serving attitude to the customers. I have the same battery problem that has been posted about over hereBut this is the second time this has happened, Lenovo Tech support in canada had no idea about this. They just checked the battery bar code for the recall, but this is the second time this has happened to me. This time as well the battery lasted only 8 months. So to all the others who are getting replacements from lenovo don't expect your replacements to last. Infact I had mine sealed packed for 3 months wasn't using the replacement  battery at all. My 4 year old dell laptop's battery still lasts atleat an hour.  And now since its been 20 months since my laptop purchase,  1 customer rep refused to even listen to me, the other 2 reps were helpfull but had no idea about the above link nor had an idea about what is causing the problem. So everyone who is getting a replacement would be in the same boat as me in a few months and lenovo is not going to do anything for you then. Whats the point of getting a replacement if thats going to fail ? I will never buy lenovo again and need to warn others . The other post related to this had been locked, couldn't add to that anymore.

Hello, I'm on my second battery with my Lenovo 3000 N100 laptop, because the first one would not hold a charge. The second one (less than 6 months old) will not hold a charge and will not recharge. The system goes dark immediately when the cord is unplugged. I am frustrated by this because I don't want to keep buying batteries. Is there some sort of fix for this that I need to know about? I have been reading some of these posts on here, and I tried to get to the officially published solution from the manufacturer "MIGR-69671" to no avail - bad link I guess. Please help me with a workable solution. I love my laptop and I don't want to buy another one - would rather try to fix this one if I can get someone to help me. Thank you.

My battery suddenly died 2 days ago with the same symptoms described by many people on this board.  I have seen the tip MIGR-69671. I have spoken to local support. I purchased the computer exaclty one year ago September 18th, the battery failed 2 days before the warranty ran out. Lenovo claims the warranty period ran out in August. Although the tip says warranty has been extended for some of these batteries to 18 months, the bar code on my battery makes it ineligable for this extended warranty.  Why should this battery be excluded from the extended warranty when it exhibits the same characteristics as other batteries covered by the extended warranty. Is there anything I can do ? Bill

Answer:Lenovo 3000 N100 battery problem

That batch with extended warranty has a problem with the manufacturing process which makes it prone to certain failure, while other batch of batteries may also fail but usually there are many causes of battery failure, with similar end effect, which is a dead battery.

Recently, my Lenovo 3000 N100 battery does not work. Within the Lenovo Care application, it states my battery has a 88% on the Power Meter; however, the laptop only runs via A/C and does not run with a battery (DC). The icon on my laptop [located on the physical laptop  where you open up the top of the laptop] does not light any longer (green or red). How can I determine if I have a battery issue or a battery charger issue within the laptop? Thanks for your help. David

Hello, For the past few weeks, I've had to play around with the charger where it goes into the computer, in order to have it find a spot where it would charge.  Today, it will not charge at all - the computer won't even turn on (I'm on a 2nd laptop).  The charger itself works, as it is a multiple line IGo charger.  I *believe* the issue is with the battery port, as it was having trouble accepting the charger.  Any help is appreciated on a solution. Thank you.

Answer:Lenovo 3000 N100 Battery won't charge

Your in luck, well sort of. Sounds like you need a new DC jack. (Battery Port). The dc jack is a assembly that plugs into the motherboard, versus ones that are soldered on.Easy to get on ebay, and the web. Link to Ebay search Get the Hardware Maintenence Manual HERE, and you can do it,or hire someone.

I woke early this morning and found that my battery is at fault. I see that my battery is stuck at 87% power with --- "plugged in, not charging." Same problem again. I informed the representative that there might be problem with the replaced battery, but he said they were not allowed to assist customers whose laptops are out of warranty.  I have noticed there were many people who had this problem in this community. I'm having the same issues.  The MIGR document that Mark_Lenovo posted links to at the top of this forum don't work anymore.  I've never had a battery go from normal charging and lasting over an hour to nothing overnight.  Based on all these messages, this is a known issue so why aren't the support people helping out? I've used Thinkpads for years at work and never had this happen.  Should I just be steering clear of these laptops completely since Lenovo took over?

Today I contacted the local support center (1-800-426-7378) and was directed to someone in Atlanta.  The representative asked a series of questions, determined that my warranty had expired, and when I mentioned the word "battery" - proceeded to tell me how to determine the batteries eligible for recall.  Once he finally took a breath, I was able to tell him about the Forum instructions for owners of the 3000 N100 with battery - PN 92P1185.  Unfortunately, the representative was not aware of any battery replacement.  I was then transferred to another service area which handles warranties - since it appeared that I was really looking for an extension.  Nonetheless, I proceeded to tell this new representative about the Forum instructions, and once again I hit a dead-end.  Mark_Lenovo if there is a specific department that handles the battery replacements, please let me know.  Meanwhile, removal of the battery has resolved the abrupt shutdown issues, so at least I'm able to use my laptop once again. Thanks!DMReeves

HI community,I had a bad experience with the original Lenovo battery in my 300 N100 notebook. It lasted just one year and 10 days and Lenovo refused to replace it because the computer was ten days beyond warranty.Therefor I want to optimize battery life and therefor only charge the battery when it is really necessary. I had a fairly good battery tool from Lenovo for my former Thinkpad, where I could set thresholds for start and stop charging in percent.Does somebody know a good battery utility for Lenovo 3000 N100 notebooks?Say it should be possible to set charge thresholds, e.g. start charging below 30% and stop charging above 80%.So I could leave the battery inside when it is connected to the power net and the battery is not "worked" in this case.Best regardsAxel

jingyu, welcome to the forum, sorry to hear that you are experiencing difficulties. Were you given a call number by the rep you spoke to? This is very important as you say you only have a few days left. Whether or not you have a call number, I would call again and if possible refer to the call number; maybe you'll reach a more helpfull rep. Point out the MIGR-69671 document again, but also point out that it was last modified on 2008-08-25, printed on the bottom of the document, and that it is very much up to date. Make sure you get a new call number. If you are again refused, and are absolutely sure you meet all the requirements, tell them you wish to make a complaint and they should be able to start this process. Let us know how you get on.

I bought my 3000 N100 about 13 months ago and now this occurred: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-69671 It says that "Replacement Program ended in October 2008 " so I can't replace my battery any more  ??? How I was supposed to know for that issue last year when my laptop worked fine ??? What about "Lenovo will replace eligible batteries (FRU 92P1186) with this failure symptom for an additional 6-months (total of 18-months) based on the system warranty start date. I was so frustrated and upset I put my laptop in a bag and didn't use it for a year or so. Recently I pulled it out and began researching it again and find out they had a recall on the battery and it would have fixed the problem but I missed out on it. I think they should have contacted me since it was registered.

The battery is held on by a latch on the end of the battery that snaps back and forth to lock the battery on.  The other latch on the bottom of the battery is spring loaded and is the main latch that holds the battery on.  This latch fell off in my hand and the spring loaded section fell away into the computer.  I have the gray piece that slides back and forth.  Any repair info, part numbers, etc would be most helpful.Message Edited by chanwood on 11-28-2008 05:47 PM

yrI have always been big fan of IBM, infact when Lenovo was launched I very enthusiastically recommended it to everyone. Finally when I could afford my first laptop I didn't hesitate to buy a Lenovo product it was a N100 notebook model 0768-A39.I purchased it in March 2007. However my joy died soon, it died with the battery. Though I would not say that battery backup was unsatisfactory, in fact I oulasted many of my colleagues at work; But in December 2007 just 9 months after purchase, the battery just died one day, no backup none at all. With erratic power supply being the hallmark of the region I live in (Kashmir) I couldnt work at all. Called lenovo support and they said I would get a battery after 1 month and that too at a service centre a days journey by road from my location  and they insisted that I would have to bring my laptop along too.Anyways, finally after waiting for a month I got a call from the service center that my battery had come, but they gave me 48 hours to report or they will have to send it back. You can imagine travelling from my place the next day to the service centre (at Jammu) reaching at 6 in the evening and running to the center with my laptop. They were closing so asked me to come the next morning. I did and my battery was replacd in 2 minutes and I could leave.I returined home tired yet relieved that my laptop was perfect now. The centre people had told me that it was a fluke that lenovo batteries of this lot suffered from and the new batter... Read more

For china and hk..it is worse because they cant understand english properly, for Australia, after I try and try...the last comment came from them is that they are IBM representative and it is not their job to look into my case. (They only told me this after my third call) . The extended warranty is ending soon (11 Nov 2008). Can you help me please? I have sent a private message to Mark as well. Hi! Recently my battery just stopped charging. I thought something was wrong with the cable of the AC adapter, as twisting it a bit to one side allowed the battery to charge, but after too much twisting, this stopped working. The battery itself is quite new, so I just bought a new charger. It worked for a few hours and the power supply switched back just to battery again and now I can't charge the battery any more. Does anyone know where the reason might be? The new AC adapter helped to charge the battery initially, but then it just stopped charging and wouldn't work any more. Do I need a new battery?  If the problem is in the battery, why twisting of the cable of my old AC adapter helped with charging? I am really confused and would be very grateful, if anyone can help. Thanks a lot.

Answer:Battery Not Charging Lenovo 3000 C100

Hi Zaichence13 and welcome to the Community,

Where were you twisting the cable? Where it plugs into the computer?  Does wiggling the jack around in the computer make it start charging again?

We have just purchased this laptop and can't find out what the different coloured LEDs indicate regarding the battery. Not sure what light means it is fully charged or how long charging should take? I am wondering if there is a problem - does anyone have any advice. Also how can we create a back up Windows disc? Thanks

Answer:Lenovo 3000 N500 battery charging

Having problems myself with the LED charge indicator.  Had two identicle computers with the same problem.  Reluctant to return again as the computer performs well for what it cost me.  The section below is from the hardware manual I found on the Lenovo website.  Blue: The battery is charged to 95% or more of its capacity.Blinking blue: The battery is being trickle-chargedOrange: The battery is being normally chargedOff: The computer is operating on battery power, and the battery has enough powerBlinking orange: The computer is operating on battery power, and the battery is charged to no more than 8% of capacity.)

Hi, I set my laptop to "Battery protection mode" which is supposed to limit charging to 60%. I noticed that once my laptop is at 60%, it switches to A/C for a few minutes, then it discharges by 1% and then charges again to 60%. This process repeats every few minutes. Is this supposed to happen? I'm worried that each time it discharges and charges again, I am wasting a charge cycle.  When I allow it to charge to 100% under "Battery Fully charged mode", it will switch to A/C when fully charged and does not discharge again so I don't think there's an issue with my battery.  Thanks for any help!

Answer:Battery Protection Mode - U410 Battery fluctuates around 60%, keeps charging and discharging.

It is fine for the laptop dont worry.

Hi folks! I own a ThinkPad Z61t and a Lenovo 3000 C100. I would like to know if I can set charging limits on C100 (thresholds for percent of charge/discharge level before the battery starts to be charged when the computer is plugged to outlet) as I can do in my ThinkPad.Setting limits to avoid charging your laptop's battery when it is almost fully charged is said to enlarge battery life. Thank you. Sergio

It's likely a dead battery. As I remember G400 models are two years old, this is a normal time for these batteries to end ther lifes.

Hello All, I have a 3000 V100 laptop that worked regularly until 4 months ago, where it stopped charging the battery.  The battery indicator shows it is plugged in, and correctly states 0% available. When I disconnect the AC power it, stops working immediately. During this period I tried to upgrade my BIOS, and to look for other solutions, assuming it just ended its life, when a few days ago I came across the Lenovo support site.  saw the N100 battery thread (that solved by replacing batteries of computers manufactured on 02/2007), that showed EXACTLY THE SAME SYMPTOMS, and guess what - MY V100 was also manufactured on FEBRUARY 2007....  Here is the FRU: 92P1216, and the S/N has 92P1215  Again - I think it's exactly the N100 battery problem - same symptoms, same manufacturing date, and looks the same.  Can anyone from Lenovo help here? PS ? I opened the same thread and marked it as "solved" by mistake. So I reopened it here ? to be able to get help.  Best Regards,Eyal

Hopefully someone here will be able to help me. My warranty expired in late November, but about a month before I had a power issue and the motherboard was to blame. It got fixed uner warranty and everything has been working fine until today. I had the laptop charging overnight and when I woke up this morning the battery indicator was still red, but it was running because the ac adapter was in. However, the battery indicator was solid and not blinking so it wasn't charging. I pulled the adapter out and re-inserted it. The battery indicator began blinking as if it was charging, but became solid again after only a few second. Then the power indicator (z with a circle around it or number 4 on the list of lights) started blinking steady like the battery indicator should. I tried to look it up on the forums, but as I was doing so it shut off. I pulled everything out for a couple of minutes and reconnected it, but now when I power up it loads a bit and just turns off. Any ideas? New motherboard again? If they fixed this and it is broke again is the warranty extended? Thanks to all those that help.

Initially my device was working just fine. Of late though (I don't know exactly when) I've noticed that only the internal battery discharges - then takes me to low power, plug in your charger, without discharging the external battery. I've installed all the latest updates for drivers and BIOS. With the laptop plugged in, the external battery is charging. But when I disconnect the AC it tells me the internal battery is 'in use' and gives me an estimated battery life based only on the single internal battery.

I have a Lenovo 3000 N100 system (ID: 0768-AFU) and the battery has stopped charging altogether. The power options and the "power meter" tab shows that the battery is at 70% and is plugged in but not charging. But if you pull the plug out of the back disconnecting the power - the laptop dies instantly and only start if the A/C power cord is connected again! I am from Bermuda & my company has provided this laptop to me in April.2007. We have four more Lenovo make laptops in use and I am worried that others will end up the same way.  Could someone please help? Could you supply contact numbers of Bermuda reseller for Lenovo? I read quite a few messages from people all over the world experiencing the same problem. It appears to me that it is a manufacturing fault since there are not too many complains on the forum about battery failure for other Lenono laptop models. Please contact me if you need system serial number or my contact numbers.  Thank you.

Answer:3000 N100 Battery Problem

I have just been searching Google about a fault I have found with my laptop and came across this site, thankfully...  I bought the N100 just over a year ago, about 8 months into having the laptop I found that the battery seemed to just stop charging. So I took it upon myself just to buy a band new Lenovo Battery as I need the laptop for my university course. Just recently this new battery that I have bought has done exactly the same thing and it?s a little annoying.  After reading what people other people have posted on here I thought I would sign up and see if anyone can help me resolve this problem now that I have had two n100 batteries to exactly the same thing to me. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Regards,Ben P.S. the only reason i have created a new post is the ones relating to my problem seem to be locked.Message Edited by Ben_McCaig on 10-16-2008 05:14 AM

If something shorts inside, it can get very hot and can even catch fire or explode taking the laptop with it.

I'd send it back.

My 3000 N100 laptop is experiencing similar battery charging problems as so many others.  Battery is completely dead. An aftermarket battery once depleted, behaves the same as the original (would not charge).  I've tried disconnecting the BIOS battery to no available.  Are there any other suggestions you might offer before I take the chance at ordering a (non-aftermarket) replacement battery? Thanks in advance for any help.

Answer:3000 N100 Battery Replacement

When I had the no charging problem on mine, resetting bios battery fixed it. If you have already tried that, there may be some other hardware problem. I am using a aftermarket battery, works fine. I also have a "genuine" replacementbattery, works fine.

I am looking at a laptop for a friend. The symptoms are it shuts down, usually within 5 minutes. The battery is not charging, and the machine can only be booted up with DC power. I've tried running it with the battery in and out. Seems to make no difference. I've read the postings about the battery problems, I realize that the person has missed the replacement period. My question to Lenovo is: Will the laptop continue to shutdown erratically until I can get them a replacement battery? The original thought was that the machine was badly infected - I was in the process of backing up pictures and documents to an external drive when I realized it would crash on a consistent basis - regardless of if the battery is attached. Is there an option in the BIOS to have the machine run only on DC power - I assume the battery is providing some sort of critical service to the MB that is not allowing it to stay up and running.

Answer:3000 N100 will not work with or without battery?

angus666, From the collective online experience, and from the experience of those I've sent batteries to, having a good battery in circuit ensures the machine runs stably.   The machine will run with the battery removed, and operating only off the external power pack, however it seems to be quirky now and again.  A failed battery with the open protection circuit will be effectively out of circuit. A functional battery in circuit helps smooth out voltage irregularities and also to manage peak demands in power usage by the system. Bottom line, I would strongly suggest a replacment battery.   Mark

Yes.. its the same problem as described here http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-69671 Even so I have "only" been having this problem for about 4 months, so even if I had responded immediately I would have been too late for the above support solution which ended OCT 2008! In the summer of 2008, my Lenovo 3000 N100 (bought in April 2007) came back from service with a new battery (the old one had died too!). The battery has FRU part no. 92P1186, so is exactly one of the faulty batteries. My question is: is it reasonable, that I got this battery as a replacement from an official lenovo service center in JULY 2008 WHEN THE PROBLEM WAS FULLY KNOWN?? I think not. Whether they were not reading the bulletins, or trying alternative ways of "recycling" the battery, it is their mistake, and I got a battery that was, if not without value, then practically unsellable. Am I out of luck? Kim Borch

Hi there.  I have the same problem.  My screen is black all the time now with odd spurts of light occuring just after loading. My laptop is sadly out of guarantee so I cannot get any telephone help from IBM, however the chap I spoke to did hint that it was a problem with the LCD cable. Then I phoned my local PC repair man and he said it sounds like the bulb, because I can still faintly see the outline of whats on the screen through the "blackness". So.  Not sure! Have you come to any resolution yet?  Meantime I have my laptop pluggged into an external monitor until I get it fixed.  Susan

Answer:Lenovo 3000 N100

Good day and welcome to the community.

As you've seen, the support site has been redesigned. For your older model, please visit:
http://download.lenovo.com/express/ and select Driver Matrix in the top-left section.
On the resulting page, choose Laptops & Tablets, Lenovo N Series and Lenovo N100 from the three dropdowns, respectively.

Hope this helps a bit.
Regards.

Question: lenovo 3000 n100

Hi,I bought this computer 6 months ago and I believe it is a lemon!!!  I have already had the tech people resend a hard drive that crashed, now I keep getting the blue screen of death, as I have heard it called.   Here are the specs on the problem and maybe someone can help;  This is greek to me!  I did call the tech support since I am under warranty and they said to upload the bios.  I went through the steps and it says I have bios version 1.08 on the computer.  It has Vista OS.  The tech is sending out a box for me to send the computer to Tennesse, but from posts I have read this does not seem like a very effective or meaningful task to do.  Any suggestions on this fix, it is extremely frustrating!! Does anyone know if this is a problem with this model?  I am in the middle of writing my dissertation and this thing crashing all the time is not what I need.  I basically want my money back for a bad product, should have gone with Dell!!!  Problem signature:Problem Event Name: BlueScreenOS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.768.3Locale ID: 1033Additional information about the problem:BCCode: d1BCP1: E56C695EBCP2: 00000002BCP3: 00000000BCP4: 8C859F5BOS Version: 6_0_6000Service Pack: 0_0Product: 768_1

Question: lenovo 3000 n100

Have no display no backlight also no display on external monitor can barely view display very faint no backlight working have already verified cable connectors both ends. is lcd display problem or inverter board problem remember external monitor wont work either

Answer:lenovo 3000 n100

With external monitor connected, enter bios setup on boot (F1 key). If you can see the Advanced tab, set "Power On Display" to Auto Selectedif it is not already. Save and exit. Enter bios again. Press Fn+F7  repeatedly to switch between lcd and external.. If external does not display, I would guess it is a onboard graphicsproblem. (Though the dim display sounds like faulty inverter). If it is the onboard graphics chipset, motherboard replacementwould be the solution.

Hey everyone, Over the summer I got a virus on my Lenovo 3000 N100. It completely resetted the hard-drive and all the features on the laptop, but I can still do stuff on it. I currently bought a new computer for my school and gaming and put the Lenovo 3000 N100 in the closet [no offense to you Lenovo people haha]. In September we started using the Lenovo 300 N100 for the Family Room computer just to go online. However, now I want to work on the computer and try to fix it up for the Family Room. All I know is that the speakers do not work [but if you plug in headphones they work, just with shaky sound], so I figured out that the sound card is not installed. When I tried to put a computer game on here [and this game was on it since 2006] it said that the graphic card was not capable, as it showed no graphic card installed. The video is a little iffy to, so I have a feeling that the video card is not installed either. So I am asking you guys.. What do I do? When I got this in 2006 [or 2007, I dont remember], It did not come with CD's. From what I researched on the computer it was set to Factory Setting's. Please reply if you have any clue on how I can get this back up to 100% mode. Thanks,Sean

Answer:Help with my Lenovo 3000 N100

Re: the virus / hard drive. That notebook should have a "one key recovery" to load factory fresh operating system since you have no CD.  After OKR, run Windows update. That should take care of drivers (ie: sound).Go to DEVICE MANAGER, click + to expand Sound, video and game controllers (make sure none are yellowed). I had a D_ll 700m, in which after a period of time the speakers stopped working. Actually, the problem was the speaker wires were cut from repeatedly opening and closing the LCD on the notebook.  A design flaw that numerous owners experienced, most often after the warranty period expired. One can repair the cables and insulate them better with electrical tape. Not saying that is your problem, but a simple solution is to just plug in a set of external speakers into the head phone jack.  (I am sure that has crossed your mind.)  A quick search found this possible helpful fix:http://forums.cnet.com/5208-7587_102-0.html?threadID=278431 Hi Folks,I had this problem with my Lenovo N100 and now it s OK.This is the solution:1)Download this patch: KB835221 (http://couponmeister.com/blog/HD_Audio/KB835221.exe)2)Download this patch:KB888111Based on you systemXP Service Pack 2->http://couponmeister.com/blog/HD_Audio/kb888111xpsp2.exeXP SP1->http://couponmeister.com/blog/HD_Audio/kb888111xpsp1.exeWindows Server 2003->http://couponmeister.com/blog/HD_Audio/kb888111srvrtm.exeWindows 2000 SP4->http://couponmeister.com/blog/HD_Audi... Hi all, happy new year and thank you in advance for looking and responding. I have a Lenovo 3000 N100. Just a couple days ago the battery died on it. I knew something was weird right away because the whole time I had it plugged in... I just didn't realize it wasn't getting a charge. First off, let me say that there is nothing wrong with the BIOS/CMOS or anything like that... I can boot the laptop just fine. The problem to me seems like the laptop isn't charging but when I plug the power cord in the little orange battery light in the front blinks off and on. I can boot the laptop with the remaining battery power but it quickly dies. When I remove the battery but leave the power cord plugged in, nothing happens... no light, no boot, nothing. Only when the battery AND the power cord are in will I see a blinking orange battery light. I had another N300 laptop lying around that burnt out a few weeks ago and I saved it for spare parts. Thinking maybe it was a bad power cord and/or bad battery I took the battery and power cord from my old N300 and the same thing happens. Anyone have any ideas?

Answer:Help please! 3000 N100 acting weird with power and battery...

Sounds similar to the problem I had with mine.Check my first post on this forum HERE

I bought this Lenovo laptop in April of 07, in August 09 the battery showing 100% power but the computer would not run without being plugged in...this happened suddenly.  I ran it with the power cord until two weeks ago as it suddenly clicked off.  Since then it won't run more than a moment at a time.  Will a new battery solve this problem or is it completely shot?  Please helpRegardsJudy Ford

Answer:Battery and now Power problems with my 3000 N100 laptop

Yes you need a new battery first of all.If problem persists after new one is installed, then post back and get advice on the nextthings to try. But a new battery is essential! I got my aftermarket battery on ebay from silicon_electronicworks good. Do not get another Lenovo brandunless it is the high capacity. The regular oneswere faulty, and some people are still selling them.

Hello everybody! I hope that everything goes well for you! I have this battery problem, I've tried to browse the forum but I didn't see the equivalent.  So the problem is the following : When I put the battery in the indicator is orange, then it turns green for something like two seconds and then.... It disapears like the great Houdini! There is no more battery indicator, no recognition in the panel or whatsoever! So if somebody has an idea about how this problem could be fixed I should be grateful!  Have a nice day!

I just bought a manufacturer refurbished Lenovo Ideapad U430p. The description said the only problems were tiny scratches, they never mentioned the laptop would have charging problems. I have tried everything, from changing enenrgy management to shutting down the laptop and charging it that way, but I keep getting the same result, the slow blinking orange light on the side of my laptop, indicating that the laptop is charging but battery power is being discharged, making it really hard to actually charge the laptop. I plugged it in straight out of the box and it immediatley stopped charging at 5%. Thats it. Then I used it a little bit and I guess I did something because then it dropped to 4% and now I am completley hopeless because school is about to start up again and I'm not going to have a laptop. Please help! And I really don't want to have to send this laptop back so please try and think of somethings else! Also it is an internal battery. Thank you,Cavrae1 P.S. Everything says the laptop is charging. The battery meter on the bottom right hand cornor of the screen, and the energy management says charging so it's not the common charger plugged in not charging issue.

Answer:Nothing but problems with Lenovo n100 3000

You should go to the Lenovo Driver Matrix, to download and install all drivers listed, using the text explanations exactly.
When done properly, your Lenovo 0768-A49 will work just fine.
As a shortcut, you can install the Systems update 3.14 by your model:
H100
J100
J105
J110
J115
J200
J200p
J205
K100
Q100
S200
S205
. C200
N100
N200
V100
V200
Y100
Or you can connect to the Lenovo site and let their system tell you what you need and install it for you.
Basically, you need the Chipset most importantly, being sure your BIOS is up to date.
The Matrix will show you exactly what you need... it can be as many as 35 download installs, depending on your exact model.
Or you can buy the Lenovo WXP Professional disk set by telephone for less than $50 including shipping.

I just recently began to have a bit of a problem with my BT on my Lenovo 3000 N100 notebook. When I got my computer just about a year ago I had no problems at all sending pictures, music and more through BT. I just right-clicked, chose Send to->Bluetooth->?Device?, but when I do that now nothing happens. Doesn?t matter whether I try to send to one of the previous used devices or I do a new search. If I then try and do again I get a pop-up asking my whether or not I like to replace the file in the BT-folder.I haven?t been able to find this folder at any point and now I?m just stuck.Hope someone out there knows what to do about it.Regards Jimmy
