Lenovo WiFi issue and Standby / Hibernation problem

Question: Lenovo WiFi issue and Standby / Hibernation problem

I have a Lenovo 3000 v200 laptop running Windows XP SP3 (recently downgraded). It is fully updated with all Windows Updates and Lenovo Updates and no changes tohardware has been done. I experience two annoying problems. I have searched the forum thoroughly for answers(many other users seem to suffer from similar problems) but no solution has beenpresented. 1. My wireless connection works 95% of the time without problems. But occationally the wireless fails to initiate when I boot up the PC.Nothing I do will bring the WiFi into operation, only a reboot will solvethe problem. I have tried toying around with the options availablethrough the WiFi software without success. No networks are visibleeven though both the hardware and software WiFi switches are "on".The Device Manager does not indicate anything wrong with the unit.I have seen this message a few times: "The wireless stack failed to initiate".Anyone with a solution for this (excluding reboot, that is) ? 2. Standby does not work. When resuming after a standby some processseem to lock up most of the system resources. One of the processor coresworks at 100% load and the other one is idle. Looking into the Task ManagerI can see several processes competing for the top position in CPU usage.I do not get a clear picture of what process is the problem but I think it is securityrelated. It seems to be a driver problem rather than the result of my software(Firewall, Antivirus...). I assume this since the very same software works OK withstandby on my other laptop (also Win XP SP3). Apart from monopolizing thesystem resourses the problem does not prevent me from getting online andworking with most applications.Hibernation does not work at all. When resuming, the PC locks up completely(before the desktop is reached) and it will not respond to any input, a hardwarereset is needed. Any thoughts on the above problems?Anyone experiencing the same problems?Suggestions for drivers to update/roll-back? Glad for advice Fredrik Message Edited by figge on 01-21-2009 10:35 AM

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Lenovo WiFi issue and Standby / Hibernation problem

Hmmm another one... Quite frustrating problem (i have the same problem).Every time i close the lid and the computer goes into standby the wireless network fails when i open the lid. It even fails when i dont close the lid. I have been searching on this problem and it seams like it's related to software and the Intel 5100 AGN wireless card. No solution yet and Lenovo doesn't seem to care.

Hi, I've been having the same problem as http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-3000-and-Value-line/G460-standby-hibernation-problem/td-p/216132 , my Lenovo G450 came with a blank screen when I tried to turn it on from hibernation today. I've tried removing the battery, running it on power only, or both, but none of them seem to get it out of the blank screen state. It does come back out of the state after a whole week of being switched off, but being a busy student overseas, I find this to be quite the hindrance to my studies and recreations. I sent it to the Lenovo service centre in Singapore in April, but they returned it to me saying it doesn't have any problems. I also have the heat problem stated in http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-3000-and-Value-line/G450-gets-too-hot-shuts-down/td-p/200020 despite the fact that I actually have a STAND AIR CONDITIONER pointed at the exhaust. Would appreciate a fast reply. Thanks. Also, please don't suggest that I install the BIOS update, since I can't even get the system to start. Indicator lights come up, touch volume control works, DVD drive bay opens, but nothing else.

Sorry if I'm not allowed to double post, but this is getting frustrating for me. I've until Saturday to get this problem solved before I fly back to Singapore for school, so please, somebody help

I have a dell e1705 laptop and when I close the lid the system does not go into standby or hibernation mode. I do have everything set correctly and the system will go into standby or hibernation just fine if I select one of those options manually, just not automatically when I close the lid.

I have tried contacting dell, but their support is horrible and got nowhere.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

I have a w510 with 8gb of ram and an SSD installed. Before I added these parts, my laptop would sleep and hibernate just fine, but after I added them, the laptop hangs when trying to sleep or hibernate. The screen will go black, and it looks like it is trying to sleep/hibernate, but it never does. WHile it is trying to do so, the hard drive activity light flashed in regular intervals. After hanging for an hour or so, it forces a shutdown. When I restart, I get the "resume windows normally/safe mode/etc." And when I do turn it back on and go to the reliability monitor, it says that the fingerprint reader has failed. WHen I disable the reader, the laptop works for a few days, but then the problem comes back.

Answer:Standby/Hibernation Issue

hey rgoode, could you try this.1. uninstall the fingerprint software 2. restart your system3. put your sys to sleep/hibernate.4. does it still hang ?if not, go to http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-74582.htmldownload the latest fingerprint software.then, try putting your sys to sleep/hibernate.

Whenever the computer goes to hibernation or standby mode it comes back right after 10 seconds. Not only the laptop does not stay in the hibernation, I have to restart the computer each time after I close the lid. Whenever I open the lid, the screen remains blank but I can see all the power lights are on. Only way i can use the machine is by shutting down by pressing the power button and restart all over again. It is really driving me crazy. Can any of the wonderful people around here help me?

First of all, here are the specification of my Lenovo ThinkPad R61 It seems that the hinges on this machine are loose? Is this common. I have come across a thread or two saying theirs were cracked but in my case there is only a slight amount of play when opening/closing the lid. ____________________________________________________USB Power Typically, what I would do is hook up the laptop to an external monitor. The laptop would be closed and a wireless mouse/keyboard would be used. This allows for convenient use for when the laptop is around the house. However, I'd like to be able to power on the laptop bringing it out of standby, pressing a keyboard button. (Laptop not off --> in standby) Is there anyway to allow a usb port to remain powered while in standby/hibernation to allow this?Currently I must open the lid to turn the laptop on from standby every time.  This laptop has been great and I'd love to extend its use and get a couple more years out of it reducing the amount of times I must use the hinges to gain access.

Answer:Lenovo Hinges / USB Power while system off/standby/hibernation

1. Small amount of play is okay, my old R61 hinge had a small amount of play when i got it new and it didn't get any worse as time went on. 2. Regarding USB power, i think there is option for always on usb in the BIOS? Not sure whether that helps.3. Alternatively get a cheap 2505 port replicator or 2504 advanced mini dock for around 30 to 50 dollars on ebay, and dock your machine on it, in which case you can switch on and off the laptop without having to open up the laptop.

I am having a problem where if I select standby the computer goes to the welcome screen, says now going into standby shuts off the LCD but the actual computer doesn't go into standby and nothing responds so I can't bring it out of standby and resort to switching off. As for hibernation, if I select that I get taken to the welcome screen and it says now going into hibernation but then freezes.

Any help very much appreciated

Answer:Standby and Hibernation problem

right click on the desktop and choose properties/screensaver/power
check the settings for monitor off
hibernate is mainly used by proffesionals that are working on complex things and need to come back to where they finished
standby i have always found a pain,i always set it to never enter standby and just set the monitor and h/d to close down after a certain period

Hello

My notebook is behaving very strange when it comes up form hibernation. At the end of the working day, with a normal procedure I put notebook in hibernation mode. Next morning when I start it up, only few seconds after Windows are completely resumed it goes back to the hibernation mode! Without any warning, I can only watch what is going on. After that, I press the power button again, Windows resuming proceed once more and then everything works normally. What makes me even more confused is that in about 50% of situations this will not happen. It is completely unpredictable. Battery is not a problem, because every time when this happened it was almost fully charged.

Another problem is a standby mode. When I put notebook in standby mode and leave it over the night, next morning it wakes up not from standby but from hibernation. Like it was out of battery (but the battery is almost on 100%).

What could be a problem here?

TIA

Answer:Tecra S1 hibernation (and standby) problem

Hi Zoran

I use often hibernation mode but sometimes I shut down notebook on usual way. As far as I know hibernation mode should not be used constantly longer than 14 or 20 days because some applications can not start properly.

In my opinion you should shut down the notebook or restart it once a week. Do this sometimes and I am sure that it will be better.

Hello & welcome to TSF,

do you have a Windows Xp cd, not the restore cd's that come with some systems, the cd will have the Windows logo & 3D hollowgram/image on it

if you do not maybe you can barrow one from a friend/family member/co-worker as long as it is the same version that is on your system

if you have (Windows XP Home Ed. sp2 ) then the cd will have to be that / if you have a cd with (Windows XP Home Ed. )you will have to slipstream (SP2 ) onto a disk that you create

this also applies to (Windows XP Professsional )
this also applies to (sp3 )

now if you do have the Windows XP cd with sp2 please follow these steps

Hi,

In my M30x, I configured my laptop to go hibernate when lid close. However, when I turn computer on after such hibernation, there is a problem with sound settings - I cannot playback any music or cannot use external microphone unless I reboot. If reboot is required, then there is no sense to use such hibernation feature. Also, sometimes, after such revivals (turning on after hibernation) my mouse (touchpad) spontaneously goes off. This happens when I plug my pc to TV set and thereafter switch back and close lid. Does anybody experience the similar problems and can help me? Thanks in advance

Answer:M30x: Problem with Hibernation and Standby modes

Hello

It is not easy to say what can be the cause for this issue. I use hibernation mode very often and there is no problem even the several applications are opened. Do you have this problem just if the unit is connected to TV or every time after hibernation mode?

It will be also interesting to know if this issue occurs after every ?wake up? process or first after several hibernation modes.

Hey guys I am having a problem with my laptop, which deals with hibernation and standby. This laptop was downgraded from vista to xp professional 32bit for starters. Ok here is the problem everything worked when downgraded but when I try to put the computer on standby it goes black and it restarts itself; so I tried to put it to hibernate but when i try to hibernate it starts to hibernate than it error occurs (please see attached photo to see the screen that I get when trying to hibernate) and the computer gives a quick error message and it restarts. I have all the correct drivers installed in the computer so I know that the problem is not drivers. Can anyone help me because without standby or hibernation it is hard to keep carrying the laptop around b/c the battery dies before I have a chance to you it.

Hello, I use a ThinkPad X220i laptop with Windows 7 64-bit installed and I have problems with hibentation mode. The problem is that after I hibernate the system, close the laptop, and leave it, the next time I open it it is in standby mode. The worst thing is that usually the battery is mostly discharged. Or at some point the system activates and switches from hibernation to standbay, or it never hibernates and goes to standby on the lid close. I hibernate the system using [Start] - > Hibarnate and wait untill all power light stops blinking, I played with power settings and turned off "go to standy on lid close" but it ddn't help. Does anyone know how to solve this issue? Thank you in advance for any help. Best,George

Answer:X220i Win7 64bit Hibernation/Standby problem

hey dapkniht, welcome to the forums and based on what you have mentioned, i believe that this might be a power management issue. Thus, uninstall both power manager and power management drivers from your unit.if any generic drivers wants to install on its own, let it do so.now, check and see if you have the same issue when placing your unit in hibernate.later, head over to http://support.lenovo.com and download the latest power management driver and power manager and install.try again and see if you can set your unit to hibernate.

Greetings.

I've experienced some interesting problem with my Satellite 1905 - S301.
Every time it wakes from hibernation/standby my touchpad stops accepting "taps" as a left mouse button click. It works normally with sensing finger's movement but stops at all but it's quite annoying to reboot the machine every time it returns from hibernation mode.

I've made a little workaround and after I close the lid laptop still runs but that's not the way it should work, I would rather to have it hibernated than running for 10 hours without any sense ;).

Can someone provide me the solution to that problem, please?
Thank you in advance.

Regards,
Akar

Answer:Satellite 1905 - Problem with touchpad after waking from Hibernation/Standby

Hi

I agree with you. It?s very annoying to reboot the machine every time to use the touchpad.
Does this problem appear since the first day?

I think there could be a software problem and possibly the new OS installation from Toshiba recovery CD could help.
I know, the full installation is not the best solution but it could help.

You should also check you touchpad driver. The Satellite 1905 - S301 was designed for the US market and therefore I checked the US website for the available drivers.
It seems that 5.3.203.2 is a newest version of the Alps touchpad driver for Windows XP.

I would suggest reinstalling the touchpad driver and check if there are any improvements.

Hello! I just bought a Lenovo B580 59-339463 (i5 3210m Ivy Bridge)  laptop, installed Win7, installed all drivers on the dvd (including the 3 wlan drivers - intel/realte/broadcom - not sure this was a smart move) only to find that I am unable to connect usign the wifi. I've been browsing round the web for the past 2 hours, but nothing seemed to help.WiFi is turned on (in BIOS, in device manager, in adaptor settings in fn+f5) The WiFi connections just don't show up in the list of network connections When diagnosing the WiFI connection I receive a message informing me that the "Wireless adapter is experieincing problems" and then this message: "There might be a problem with the driver for the Wireless Network Connection adapter. Windows couldn't automatically bind the IP protocol stack to the network adapter." Intel ProSet/WiFi tools -> Diagnostics -> Hardware Test FAILED. The wireless adapter is disabled or uninstalled                                                                         Software Test PASSED Since i'm rather new at all this, never having owned a laptop before, I've completely ran out of ideas. So I turn to you, maybe you know what to make of all this. Thanks!

Hi everybody,I have a problem for several weeks and I need your help please!  when I bought my flex 2, it was came with windows 8 64 bit installed on it. Eveything was working fine; Then I did the upgrade to windows 10 64 bit. Since then I can not use HIBERNATION mode in "power option".when I click on hibrnation on the "power option" it seems that everything is normal. Windows takes some moments to save data in "hiberfil.sys" file (because it takes longer than when clicking on SHUT DOWN button when trying to turn the laptop off). Then, when I want to turn on my flex 2, It starts for a moment showing LENOVO logo then after about 4 seconds it suddenly turns off !!!. So I need to press power buton again to turn computer on. This time it starts normally( but much longer than ususal start up) but it is a FRESH start not caming out of hibernation. It seems that the data on hiberfil.sys file became destroyed.I tried to disable and enable hibernation, remove hiberfil.sys file, update all drivers, windows upsate, disk scan, system restore, defragment, scan registry with some softwares, boot from safe mode, everything that I thought would be a solution but NOT even a single progress...I am very disappointed! Now I can't resume my work and every time I should shut down the computer and wait for a fresh start up...sorry for long explanation. I hope someone can find a solution  and help me...thanks.

When I put my PC on either of the two modes, I get a message saying that the device driver for the keyboard is preventing the machine from doing so, and that if the problem persists, I may need to update the driver. Yet when I try to update the driver, my machine tells me that the driver is up to date. Can anyone please advise?

Answer:Hibernation and standby

if your trying to update drivers from device manager it will tell you your drivers are up to date, you will need to search the net for updated drivers for the relevant piece of hardware

Which is better? Standby or hibernation. I dont think I like either on cause when the computer comes out of em it always runs slow. And also, what is the difference in them?

Answer:Standby vs. hibernation

standby means just shuts down the harddrives and goes into low power consumption.
computer basically sleeps.

hibernation is saving everything and shutting down to prevent data loss.
computer passes out.

I've been using these functions for several years on my T40 2373-94U - until they stopped being available. Lenovo's information has not solved the problem, no has the internet in general. I have the latest BIOS, and I think hibernation is turned on, but am not sure what the correct settings are - so I use the defaults. Power management software is up to date. Command line powercfg info shows these functions are not available. I'm wondering if I should re-flash the bios, or consider that some other software (I know not what on my overly complex system) is interfering. Any thoughts and suggestions are appreciated. Thanks,Frank

I'm wondering if I should re-flash the bios, or consider that some other software (I know not what on my overly complex system) is interfering. Any thoughts and suggestions are appreciated. Thanks,Frank

I know nothing about hibernation or standy, but what I want to do is not shut off my computer. I want to let it run but not have to use the on button to start it up, I have an HP760n tower. After about 10 minutes, the screen goes into screensaver. Not long after, the screen goes blank, I guess it goes into standby. Is it safe to leave it in standby all day? or should you put it into hibernation? Remember, do not want to use power button, am having problems with it right now. Does the mouse bring it out of standby and hibernation? When you go anywhere, like an office, the computer is on and their screensaver is running constantly, that is about what I want but not all the power usage. Any help would be appreciated. Went into help on the windows program XP home edition and read about it but did not quite understand it.

Answer:hibernation/standby

Well, hibernation turns the machine totally off after saving the RAM contents to a disk file, so the power button would be required to turn it on. You can adjust the settings by going into Control Panel, Power Options, and setting the behavior on the Power Schemes tab. If you don't want hibernation, turn off that option on the Hibernate tab.

I am using a D-LINK DI-624 router and a Dell Inspiron 1420 with an Intel Wireless N card and Windows Vista.

I am having a recurring problem where, after open my laptop and returning from standby "sleep" mode, I will have normal wi-fi and internet functionality right away, but usually within one minute the globe icon on the wifi indicator on Vista Toolbar disappears, I loose my access to the internet, and the network connection identifies itself as "local access only" instead of local access and internet like it should. If I manually disconnect and reconnect I will get my internet access back. Note that when this happens, I can still access the router settings itself through my laptop, and local networked computers and devices. It is just a case of not having access to the internet.

Any thoughts on this? I'd like to be able to flip open my laptop and not have to manually reconnect every single time.

Hi,

Basically my PC is refusing to wake itself up from hibernation (or standby) as it has done in the past. It seems like the actual task I schedule to run DOES run, but the PC stays in either hibernation or standby mode and doesn't bring itself to life. I've tried searching the Net but I haven't had any luck finding a solution so I thought I'd ask here!

I did have to restore my C: drive from a backup a few weekends ago as I installed Kaspersky AntiVirus and it basically made my PC unusable so I ended up formatting the C: partition and restoring it from my backup (going back to avast! in the process). However everything else seems to be working OK so I don't know why it's refusing to wake itself up! :-(

I'm only doing what I used to - using Scheduled Tasks and ticking the box 'Wake the computer to run this task' - but it's not working. The same tasks run fine while the PC's in 'normal' mode and my laptop has no such problem waking itself from hibernation either.

I really need to get this fixed in the next week as I go away on holiday on Friday and want to use the PC to record programmes while I'm away.

System details as follows:

Hardware: Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ 2.00 GHz, 2 Gb RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS, ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe ACPI BIOS Revision 0706 (21/08/2006)
Operating system: Windows XP Home SP2

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm thoroughly stumped at the moment!

Thanks
Steven

Do you have an error message of some sort when you try to get out of the hibernation ? I only found this link on microsoft database about that kind of problem, don't know if it will help :

Maybe you could also try to disable hibernation, reboot the computer then reenable it.

I continue to be a bit confused about this topic. 1. The Shutdown Gadget (from 8 Gadgets) which I have on my desktop has a button called Standby, which I am told (based on the description I have given in the past) is actually not taking my Tablet into Standby / Sleep, but into Hibernation.  Yet it has another button called Hibernation ---- which unfortunately (like the Standby button also) has not worked for some time, despite re-installing, so I am unable to check now on what it does.  I am hoping to contact the publisher to see if I can get the buttons working again. (For the time being I use other ways of shutting down, usually from the menu displayed by right-clicking on the Start button). Hibernation does not appear in any other menu apart from the Gadget.2. What is the fastest way to get out of Standby and Hibernation modes? Thanks in anticipation.

Answer:How do I get out of Standby or Hibernation mode?

Hello,Welcome to the forums! Not quite sure of your question, but here's an attempt at an answer:- press the "Fn" key to restart your system from Standby mode (or just open the lid - if the lid function is enabled)- press the "power on" button to restart the system from Hibernation modeGenerally it takes longer for the system to "restart" from Hibernation mode as information is stored on the HDD and must be re-read for proper OS function. Standby (suspend-to-RAM) is much faster and more convenient for those that need to stop functioning of the system for a brief period of time but restart quickly.Hope this helps.

Hi all

i have my pc set to hibernate when the lid is shut, however it keeps changing to standby and checking the password option when it wakes again.

I know a bit about hibernation but this is a tad odd.

I go to Power options and select advanced and uncheck the password on resume option and select hibernate when the lid is closed and apply so i dont think im doing anything immediately wrong

Any ideas appreciated

Answer:Hibernation Changes to Standby for no reason

Some XP don't have Hibernate by default. On mine I have to hit
Start>>>Turn off Computer>>>Shift and Standby changes to
Hibernate. Then hit "enter" or "h" and and away she goes.

On our upgraded XP, Hibernate is there by default. From what I read newer XP have "standby".You have to bring up "hibernate"
manually. I hope this helps. And by the way I use hibernate regularly, it's dead handy for re-start.

I've got a Toshiba Laptop that had to be flat lined and reloaded. It was a bear as I had to learn to make ISO boot disks since this has no floppy to get the process started via the easy route... you know, put in the Windows XP disk and boot from there. That was loads of fun but I got it done BUT... for some reason I do NOT have the option to use nor enable Standby or Hibernation.

I've Run the system scan, put in the XP disk... twice now... nope didn't do it. Yes I have service pack 2 installed. Even re-installed it... nothing.

I've been to Tosiba's site and searched high and low and found their Power Management program which was way cool BEFORE when it worked but after installing it I was denied access to it and I'm the administrator! Never got around that so took it back out.

Yep.. APCI or whatever is in there too. I can go everywhere where you'd normally go to turn the stuff on and set it up but it's not even an option! Even the "enable Hibernation" bit is gone... nowhere to be found.

I have one option... shut it off. And if I get frustrated and hold the power button down to shut it off... when it's down I close the lid and it boots back up!

I've tried everything I can think of. I've searched high and low for a resolution before posting this. This is a last resort. The ONLY thing that was different from this install than from the other's I've done sucessfully with the same disk is Smart Drive wasn't installed so I loaded it the long route. I did th... I've got this annoying problem with my x61 (7764-CTO) that it will wake up by itself like 10 ~ 15 seconds after I put it in standby mode with the power cable plugged in. Nothing else is attached to the tablet at this point (i.e. no USB devices or network cables.) About 15 seconds later it will go back into sleep and then 15 ~ 20 seconds later it will wake up again all by itself. There is a short beep every time it goes into standby and comes out of it. Funny thing is that I have told it not to ever go to sleep when the power is plugged in. I can change that setting and it will still continue to have this problem. What is very strange is that it will do this even if I put the laptop into hibernate. But if the laptop is actually shut down then it will not start up by itself. If the power cable is not plugged in then I can successfully put it to sleep or hibernate it and it will stay in standby or hibernation until I turn it back on. When I bought the laptop the install of vista was corrupt and it was stuck in a constant reboot cycle. I used the recovery CDs to re-install the OS but it installed XP on there instead. After Lenovo shipped me XP CDs twice (well first they wouldn't even ship me any CDs because they kept telling me that my brand new out of the box tablet was out of warranty) I finally gave up on them and installed Vista using one of my office licenses. Then installed all drivers and utilities manually and it worked flawlessly (and a... Read more

Dear All,Good morning. I seem to be having a wee problem with my laptop and after the superb help last time round i thought i would ask again.I have a toshiba satellite 1900 laptop running windows XP home SP2. Recently i am having problems when i close the lid of the laptop while the 'puter is still running. Normally this used to send the system into Hibernation / Standby, (can't remember which one as very rarely did this normally just turned off.My problem comes from when i lift the lid again the screen remains blank and i am unable to turn the computer off. (Tried holding down the power button for a couple of seconds). The only way to turn it off is to unplug it and let the battery go. Probably not the best i know but don't really know if there is any other options. I have had a look at the Microsoft website and they have some information on this type of problem, but it involves being able to get into the computer. When i restart my computer after plugging it back into the mains it still seems to be in hibernation / standby, with the CD player doing short sprints.I am really at a loss on how i can break this nasty cycle and turn off the hibernation / standby so it doesn't happen again. If anyone has any ideas they will be very welcome.CheersChris

Answer:Restarting from Standby / Hibernation

I have to say that, looking at the manual I found this particularly unhelpful - no reference to BIOS, sleep mode, etc. but there you go. You should be able to switch this off in the BIOS setup, if you can work out how to enter the BIOD setup - it should tell you when you first switch on. If this does not work, I can only suggest that you deliberately switch the laptop to hibernate or sleep (see P2-11 of your manual) and it should then come back to like quite quickly by switching it on normally.Incidentally, if you don't have the manual, click here.

If I do

I get (roughly translated)

Mode S1 not available
Mode S2 not available
Standby has not been activated
Hybrid Standby-mode.

Tha last line of this output catches my eye and I do suppose that instead of doing a normal StandBy, the system goes into hybrid standby.
This, however, is astonishing, since it is stated that
powercfg -h off
disables normal standby just as well as it does disable hybrid standby.

Does anyone have a clue as to why my system still powers down?

I bought my S10e 6 cell 160Gb XP machine directly from Lenovo's UK web site. Apart from a dead pixel, rattling keyboard and poor sound when using headphones. I've discovered a new, less innocuous problem.Initially I experienced my screen quickly flashing once in a while, randomly while using the S10e. Not often enough to worry about until I changed the power settings option to make the machine hibernate when the lid is closed. After doing this, again at random times while using the S10e, it would hibernate and would need to be woken up before I could continue using it. This was more worrying to me since I initially thought that the unit was overheating and so shutting itself down as the problem, almost always, seemed to occur when the fan was running.Through trial and error, I have since discovered that whatever setting I choose Windows to perform on closing the lid of the S10e, that function is carried out randomly while I'm using the machine and the lid is open. Without variance, this happens when the fan is running, although as it runs almost all of the time, this may just be a coincidence. I've also noticed that if I set the machine to "do nothing" when the lid is closed and then close the lid of my S10e only just enough to switch off the screen, but still open enough to peer under it, the screen backlight will sometime flicker randomly on and off. Again this only appears to happen when the fan is running. I don't get any flicker when the lid is half closed like this and ... Read more

I did some searching and found that it may by due to an Indexing service, but i tried and disabled those to no avail. I also searched these forums for my problem and not fining the exact problem i tryie going ith the closest and just seeing if a program or myself had by chance turned it off under ht power settings. But there is no actual hibernation tab as one had specified and when i goto advanced and try changing what happens when i close my lappy and/or hit the power button to enter hibernation it just reverts back. Hibernate : Stores all data thats in RAM onto a place on the hard disk.. and then powers the machine off completley. When you reboot, windows restores everything thats in ram from HD, and puts the machine back into the state it was before hibernation

Sleep/Standby : puts the machine into low power mode, which usually means turning off all components except for RAM, and a couple of other chipsets. The machine is still "on" but the data is not flushed from volatile memory (which requires power to be given to it or it looses data).

Hope that answers your question

Hello guys,

I am pretty desperate here and I really need your help with this one.

My system is unstable and I have had this for a while now. Sometimes my PC freezes after I wake it up from hibernation or standby. No input is possible, no BSOD happens and all I can do is hard-reset my PC. There are no logs in the administrative eventlog so I really have no clue on what's going on. Here are some information files created with the great "dm_log_collector" from the BSOD section. What other information can I provide in orer to help you help me?

Thank you very much in advance folks!

My new computer is a custom-built with an Intel DQ35JO mobo with an E8400 Core 2 Duo CPU running at 3.0GHz. OS is Win XP-SP3. The mobo has something that's relatively new in computers: a TPM (Trusted Platform Module). By 2011, all computers purchased by the Dept. of Defense must have this module, so I assume many computers besides mine also have it.

For several years, I had been using SystemSuite Pro as my do-all utility (AV, AS, defrag, cleanup, diagnostics, firewall, etc.). Shortly after getting the new computer, I noticed that (a) the computer would not go into standby or hibernate at the times set for them, and (b) if I put it into standby or hibernate manually, when I brought it out, it would crash and reboot. A long diagnosis discovered that SystemSuite was causing the problem by trying (and failing) to access the TPM, despite the TPM being disabled in the BIOS. After removing SystemSuite, the computer's power options worked perfectly.

I now have almost the same problem again. The system doesn't crash when it comes out of standby or hibernation, but it often ignores the power options and stays on. If I manually put it into either, it often comes back on on its own.

My only scheduled tasks are for updates to Ad-aware and my Google software (Toolbar and Desktop). "Wake the computer to run this task" is UNchecked in all.

What do you think could be causing this behavior?

Answer:Solved: Standby and Hibernation don't hold

Have not had a single response to this thread, so am adding something I just discovered today which may help someone figure out what's happening. I wondered if the computer was being awakened by something coming from the Internet (I have Comcast cable, hardwired via the Ethernet port on the motherboard). So I tried something: I first manually put the computer into standby and immediately put my cable modem on standby as well (meaning that while the modem remains powered up, there is no connection to the Web). Guess what? Under that scenario, standby and hibernate hold; i.e., you put the computer into either, and it does NOT come back on.

So, it appears that some piece of software in my computer is constantly trying to connect to, or the computer is reacting to something coming from, the Web. I have looked at the HiJackThis log and for the life of me cannot see anything that should cause that. Here's the log:

I'm having an issue with a freshly installed copy of Windows XP Pro x64 Edition concerning hibernation and standby. Going into either mode is no problem but when I resume all I get is my desktop background with a frozen cursor pasted to it. If I am lucky I can get to the Welcome screen and enter my password then it will decide to freeze up.

What's funny is that it wasn't a problem a couple of days ago when I just installed it. I do want to mention that I am using up to date drivers for the chipset, graphics card, wifi, and sound (all which were integrated with nLite before install sans the sound driver). The x64 Service Pack 2 was integrated as well, but post-SP2 hotfixes have been installed separately within three hours after installing XP x64. The system was OCed in the beginning but even with the factory clock speeds and voltages reinstated I still cannot resume properly. Bios happens to be on the latest available version right now

My system specifications:
Abit KN8 Ultra NVidia Nforce4 Ultra motherboard
AMD Athon 64 X2 4200 Manchester Socket 939 (now clocked back at factory 2.2GHz)
Antec 550W NeoPower PSU
2 GB Kingston DDR 400 RAM (will push it to 4 in near future )
EVGA 7800GTX with 256MB RAM
Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi XtremeMusic sound card
320GB SATA 3.0GB/s WD 7200.11 RPM hard drive

Alter the power settings in the BIOS, a lot of times modifying from S1 to S3 state can fix issues for some people, as can going from S3 to S1. It's weird, but nothing is a sure-fire solution, it's all basically try this, nope, try that, nope, keep trying, ok, this works, done.

I have recently had to reformat my Qosmio F10 using the original disks supplied with it. Now when I put it into standby the screen goes blank and it just hangs. The only way out is to hold the power button until it shuts down and then restart. With hibernation it is the same problem except it hangs with the screen saying "preparing to hibernate"

Any help to resolve this would be appreciated.

For some reason the two modes will not function at the time set.

I have Ghost 10 and read over the book and realized that hibernate.sys does not get backed.

So I am wondering if there is a way to repair the corrupted file or is it a start from scratch process?

Hello kind people!
I've struck a weird problem that I cannot find a solution for despite some serious googling.

I have recently reformated and reloaded windows on my Asus laptop, and after a week of normal operation I've struck a new problem.

I can put it into standby and hibernation mode without a problem, but when I want to use the computer again, the thing restarts itself automatically.

Coming back from hibernation, I press the power button and it restarts straightaway.
Coming back from standby I have a couple of minutes before it shuts itself down and restarts.

Any ideas what is going on? Its probably something to do with the powersave options, but nothing I've done there makes a difference to this minor, but annoying problem.

Looking forward to your help

David

Hi all,

I have a machine I need to leave in standby for long periods of time, (i.e all night), but the case fan does not stop running.
It was connected to a hard driver molex, but I guess the hard drives do not stop in standby mode?, so that might answer that one.

It also does not stop when connected to the proper fan socket on the motherboard.
Has anyone got any ideas on how to solve this problem?
OR!

Does anyone know how to make the machine have a hibernate option?
I have looked in the bois and it doesn't mention it.
The machine is running windows 2000 server.
Any help is much appreciated.

About three weeks ago, my computer stopped going into hibernation or standby, telling me that there was a problem with the keyboard driver that was preventing going into hibernation/standby mode.

I went through Dell tech support, who had me reinstall all drivers and flash the bios. Didn't work. I suspect that the error message is bogus anyway. When I tried to restart, I got a couple of different messages about background processes. Dwwin.exe was one, CiceroWinFrame was another. I have no idea what these do, but they're getting hung.

I have antivirus software running (eTrust AZ antivirus) and it's updated. But I noted another post in this forum about Cicero and was wondering if my laptop's been hijacked by a virus anyway? I've run SpyBot and it got rid of a couple of things but the problem is still there.

Can anybody help? Dell's next helpful recommendation was to restage my computer. I just got this laptop three months ago and going through that is entirely counterproductive. If I can avoid it, I'd like to.

I am having trouble with wifi connectivity on Lenovo G50-80 with Windows 7. I tried connecting to the wifi for the first time but if fails to search for any wifi connections. When I tried troubleshooting it says that Wifi Adapter is turned off and I should switch it on my pressing key. I could not find any key, I tried F7 key and Fn+F7 key but it doesn't work. Later I put the laptop of sleep mode. When I logged again, the wifi adapter was able to search for nearby wifi networks and able to connect with them. But when I restarted the laptop, I faced same issue again. Ever time I have to first put the laptop on sleep mode and then wake up to connect to wifi network. What seems to be the issue??

Answer:Lenovo Y50-70 WiFi issue

It sounds like the driver needed by Windows to communicate with your WiFi adapter has become corrupted, so you need to go to Lenovo support site here, select the correct Windows operating system for your system, use the "Pick a Component" pulldown to select "Networking: Wirelesss LAN" and download the driver and install the latest driver.     I am not sure which one of the two drivers listed you need, but just try installing both of them, since only one will work, and the other will just fail to install. If all else fails,Right click on the network controller under "other devices",Select Uninstall,Check the box to "Delete the driver software for this device: (if offered), and then press OK.Reboot if prompted to do so, but if no reboot is required, just right click on any device in Device Manager and select "scan for hardware changes".    Windows will then scan for the card, and attempt to install the driver. Good Luck,

I've got a W500 and am running Windows Vista Ultimate, SP1. Background: I was using the switchable graphics, with the most up to date driver from Lenovo for the BIOS and the graphics cards.  I was also one of the unlucky ones who experienced random driver sessation and crashing while using the machine and also random inactivity on resumes from Standby mode. I then went through the instructions to use the AMD driver on the AMD graphics card only, by shutting off the other card, disallowing switchable graphics in BIOS and modding the newest driver from AMD as detailed in the other thread.  Now, however, any time I suspend and try to resume the laptop, be it from Standby or Hibernation mode, I get a Bluescreen, with the message at the top "BAD_POOL_CALLER".  I get this every single time, no matter what I do or try. This W500 is easily the most powerful laptop that I've ever used, without a doubt, it blows most desktops that I've used in my life out of the waters they were in, but it unfortunately now, the most troublesome and unreliable laptop I've ever used.  I've had huge problems with the Fingerprint reader, with the Security Manager and constant problems with the graphics.  I'm using this for hours, daily and having to constantly shutdown and startup from a cold boot is really starting to get to me. Can someone please try and help, I can dig for any more information that you need to try and get to the root of this.

Hello everyone:

I have a dell inspirion 1525 laptop computer I bought three years ago and it generally works ok for the most part. However as of recently, when doing normal stuff such as browsing the web or listening to music or other things, the computer will automatically go into stand by or hibernation mode. I know this because when I go to turn the power back on, it doesn't do a full boot up. Now I'm not sure if this is a windows 7 issue or a hardware issue so I wasn't sure of where to post this. What do you suggest I start doing to troubleshoot the problem?

Hi, I have two problems, it'll be great if anyone can help me out.

1. I have 5 (or so) 2.0 USB ports. Normally, for temporary devices such as recharging the battery for my iPod or linking up my calculator to my computer, I use this USB Port in the front. It was working fine until about 2 days ago. For some reason, when I try to plug it in, it goes about 2/3 in and can't move in anymore. On the monitor, this balloon pops out from the quick icon bar (not sure what the proper name is, sorry) and mentions something about power surge . If I plug it in and out quickly several times, or if I leave it in, the computer crashes. It restarts and upon getting to the desktop, it mentions something about how the computer recovered from a serious error. The other USB ports are fine.

2. When I go into standby or hibernation mode, as alternatives to shutting down the computer, it seems fine. However, after perhaps 40 min to 5 hours, it turns back on without anyone touching it. Is there a solution to stop this?

Not sure if you guys need the specs of my comp... but it's a Windows XP Media Center. If needed, ask for more info, I'll gladly post more.

Answer:USB Power Surge + Hibernation/Standby broken?

Hi gdavge2003

With Windows shutdown, the power off, and the power plug disconnected - get a strong flashlight & a good magnifying glass & have a look at the port.

It sounds like a short-circuit.

Best case - something is stuck in there - you take it out, and all is well.
Not-best case - the port has been damaged & needs to be replaced.

If this is a port that can be easily replaced (if it uses a standard USB 2.0 connector's housing), it might be simply a matter of buying a replacement, unplugging the old, & plugging in the new. Some of the built-in ports can have unique ways of getting fixed into the case plastics, so this isn't always something easy to do.

An alternative (and possibly cheaper) idea is to use a USB hub to replace the bad port (you'd hook up your new USB hub to one of the good ports in the back of your computer, but could keep the hub in a convenient location for charging your iPod, etc. - since you do a lot of charging, a powered hub [one that has an AC adapter] might be best --they run around $10, if you decide on one, make sure it's a USB 2.0 version].

If you use a new hub as a solution, you'll still need to disconnect the bad USB port (you'd unplug it from the motherboard) to eliminate any further short-circuits.

Best of luck
. . . Gary

Hi I recently upgraded a whole bunch of drivers for my T500 (including a BIOS update, the PM driver and software, fingerprint reader, etc) and now when I try go into Standby or Hiberation, my machine goes to the "Preparing to Standby..." screen but nothing ever happens. It's not frozen because the mouse still works, but it just never does anything. Strangely, it doesn't happen if I've just rebooted though, but I have no idea of what is causing the issue. I've tried making sure that all applications etc are closed in case it's an app that's causing the issue, but it still does it. I'd like to try reinstalling the old PM drivers etc, but I can't find them on the website. Does anyone have an ideas or maybe some tips on how to troubleshoot this? Any help would be much appreciated. ThanksJames

Dear experts, in my case the system won't go into standby or hibernation. In 80% of the cases, hibernation/ standby does not work. In 20% it works... In 80% I get a black screen as if prepairing for standby/ hibernation. But instead of entering standby, the systems does not turn off. There is a slight harddrive activity, pressing mute/ unmute button still works (light on, light off), pressing mic on/off but does not work anymore. a very strange system state. Only possibility is to press system on/off for 4 seconds and reboot... I updated all Windows 7 Updates that said that they are connected to hibernation/ standby problems. I used SystemUpdate and updated all Lenovo Updates that connected something like that. I updated the BIOS. Nothing helped...  :-( Does anyone have a solution for the problem?

Also the Hot Keys are inop.

When I go to Programs, Toshiba Utilities the only option available is SD memory card format.
I can't access the " Accessibility" link. and I can't access the Toshiba H.W Setup.

Can anybody help me with any of these?

Answer:Re: Satellite Pro M30: Cannot access Hibernation or Standby mode

Hi

For me it sounds like you have not installed all and necessary Toshiba drivers.
Did you use the Toshiba Recovery disk after the HDD has been replaced or did you install the Windows XP using a clean Microsoft CD?

Please note that Common Module are very important!
You have to install this software at first!
The Toshiba Power Saver would help you to enable the hibernation mode and also to access the standby mode!

On the Toshiba European driver page you will find all necessary drivers and you will find also the installation instruction.
Follow this and I?m sure you will get everything working again!

Hi,
I am having this problem that whenever my computer is connected to the inernet through a cable, it always looses the internet connection if it goes to standby or hibernation.

Then only a local connection can be established, and I have to do a repair diganostics of the connection. Which means that the connection disconnects and updates the IP i guess.

I dont have the problem when running wirelessly. It only appear on the cable.
I recently formatted my harddrive so its not because of malware / virus etc. In fact it has been this way since I bought the machine 5 months ago.

I guess it could be a Win Vista issue, so maybe some kind of update exists?? I have tried looking at GOOGLE but haven't been able to find anything that seem to solve it.

I am running Windows XP on a Athlon XP 2100+, 512 mb ddr333 ram, ati radeon 9100 128 mb vid. card, wd 40 gb hard drive.

Previously i had been running XP without a hitch with the same setup only i had a Quantum 20gb hard drive instead.

On resume from standby mode and resume from hibernation, i get this stop message.

0x0000008E (0XC0000006, 0XBF87CB42, 0XF813EBAC, 0X00000000)

The message continues to include something about win32k.sys

I can't find anything regarding this specific stop message and have updated my BIOS and drivers, without any success.

When I installed the new hd, i found that if i hooked it up as the master device, the computer would not recognize my master cd-rom drive, so i left it as a slave device.. could this have anything to do with the problem?

Answer:BSoD on resume from standby and hibernation mode

normally you would run your h/d as master on eide 1 and your cd rom on eide 2 or as a slave on eide 1
hibernation is not used by most as it can cause problems

Hi,
My system has Windows XP pro Service Pack 3 with intel centrino2 and 4 GB
RAM. Few days back my system was affected by malware and after I cleared the
system now the Standby and Hibernate option stopped working. Earlier it used to
work but now when I try to put the system on standby mode manually it shows
"Preparing to Standby ( or hibernation)" and nothing else happens. The mouse
is still active but nothing else could be done. I had to finally turn off the
power button and then restart the computer. But I noticed that if I try to
put the computer on standby mode as soon as I reboot it works but couldn't
really find out whats interfering with the process.

If anyone can help me with this I will really appreciate that.
Thanks

Answer:[SOLVED] Preparing to Standby or Hibernation Hangs

The usual culprits are a bad driver or bit of software.

You may find this article helpful.

As an aside, 32 bit systems only recognise 3Gb of ram and this has been known to cause problems in some instances, not sure if it applies to you.

My Lenovo T61p won't boot up after closing the lid (and being in standby mode enough long to go into hibernation mode) or using "Fn" + "F4". My settings in the Lenovo ?Energy settings? for "Fn" + "F4" and closing the lid is ?go to standby mode? (when using the term ?standby mode? it is the same as ?sleeping mode? according to the definition at: Sleep-and-Hibernate-FAQ OS: Windows XP SP 3 and all the latest updates until this day.  BIOS: The latest update until this day.  Drivers: All the latest update until this day.  According to the settings it's enough space for the hibernation file (it is 2031 MB, and I have a free space of 6355 MB - used space is 16 928 MB).  I would say this problems started after downloading the latest BIOS and some drivers I don't remember the name of.  In the thread: ThinkPad/T61-connected-to-AC-supply-can-t-boot-up-after-shut-down there is a suggestion that this is hardware related problem and could only get fixed whit new hardware (i.e. a new motherboard). I hope not. Does anyone have any suggestions?I appreciate any help.

Answer:T61p won't boot up after standby mode / hibernation

Add:The problem with not being able to reboot after hibernate, and later also after standby mode, was in the beginning occurring from time to time in an intermittent kind of way. It then became more often and regular, and now it?s always the fact.

Answer:How to disable Standby/Hibernation on Satellite Pro U series

Hi there,

to disable the Standby/Hibernation on your system you must simply go into "Control Panel" and open the "powersaver" to edit the powersaver settings.

The Powersaver contains profiles where all powersaving related settings are defined. So you can edit such profile and disable the standby/hibernation to perform your defragmentation.

Would be useful if you post which system you have..

Greetings

Answer:How to enable the hibernation/standby mode on Satellite Pro M70-220

Hi,

download the driver from Toshiba's website. Then uninstall the driver, and reinstall the downloaded one (should be the same). Maybe the existing installation was corrupted somehow.

Then set standby in your power options.

Bye
