Lost Lenovo Rescue and recovery partition in 3000 N100 0768GZQ have no recovery disks, please help

Question: Lost Lenovo Rescue and recovery partition in 3000 N100 0768GZQ have no recovery disks, please help

I installed Ubuntu GNU/Linux in my 3000 N100 0768GZQ laptop and deleted the partition in which i had installed Vista using fdisk. However, fdisk also deleted the Lenovo rescue and recovery partition. Not realizing this i created 2 new partitions in the free space. Now I want to install Vista in one of these partitions and I don't have a Lenovo Rescue and Recovery drive or the recovery CDs. Please help me.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Lost Lenovo Rescue and recovery partition in 3000 N100 0768GZQ have no recovery disks, please help

You can either get a hold of Vista installation disks and install it manually, or call Lenovo support and ask for recovery disks. They may charge you for the disks as you are supposed to create your own recovery disks.

hi does anyone know if the rescue & recoverys, restore to factory settings leaves me with the windows or not

Answer:lenovo n100 3000 rescue & recovery

avremy, welcome to the forum,

it sets the system back to the software state it was in when you received it. If you plan on recovering your system you need to backup all files that you don't want to lose beforehand; after running a factory restore they will be gone.

Hi, I need help, please. I recently created the Rescue and Recovery Discs from a friend with the exact same laptop as me. After inserting the first disc, "Rescue and Recovery Startup Disc," it takes me to the white, Lenovo logo screen. Since the laptop didn't read the disc, I pressed F1 so that it would take me to a screen where I can manually tell my laptop to read what's in the CD-ROM. It's been at the Lenovo logo screen with "Please Wait..." for quite a long time now. Nothing is going on. I've waited patiently, and also repeated the process numerous times. Does anyone have an advice? Anything would help. Thanks in advance!

I purchased recovery disks (July 2010) and installed them and could not use it because of the **bleep** fingerprint option.  I got NO support from Lenovo.  Waiting on phone calls hold forever. I finally got it to ask me for a password that I never supplied. I took it to a computer repair shop and was informed that it was a Bios password and that Lenovo would NOT GIVE IT to him.  So I guess I will have to use a forum of customers to help me, or eat the $50 I paid for the disks.  I am writing this on an iMac (Rolls-Royce of computers) that NEVER locks up like my PCs did. Can someone help me log on to this piece of crap. I can't afford to buy an Apple laptop right now, and my wife is wanting her own computer.

Hello,  I've been trying to repair my laptop for many weeks.  As stated above, it only goes to the RnR (4) program - even when I boot it up in Safe Mode - it goes to the RnR program.  I have called support, who after 2 weeks & since my laptop is out of warranty - after buying the RnR Disks, I am still unable to get back to the Windows Vista Home Premium OS {it gets to the 'Product Recovery' window, stating to 'Click Next to begin the recovery Process'.  Don't mean to be whiney, but my wife really wants her laptop back, and of course she blames me (even though it was my kid who the laptop crashed on). I have performed all of the tests that it will let me in the RnR program; but whether I use the RnR program that is preloaded on the laptop, or if I use the RnR set of disks that I so happily purchased, the Recovery program stalls out.  I have reseated by HDD too, to no avail. If anyone has a magic-fix I will post your praises on every Lenovo message board.  Thanks for any input.

I have a 3000 N100 system.  My Dad was using the computer and the battery died and after they plugged it in the Rescue Recovery came up and then the system recovery option comes up and there is no operating system listed.  If I hit next it tells me that I must log in for system recovery options and prompts me to restart but every time I restart it goes back to the same scenario.  Even if I hold down the F8 on system restart and try to start up in the safe mode or recover from last successful start up it still goes to the rescue recovery screen.   Help I know a little but I am truly stumped.  Its almost like it is still logged in under the "Guest " even after the computer has been restarted and I can not get to any other functions!!!! Please help

I have gone to restore my laptop to Factory setting but in the rescue and recovery application i do not have any option to recover to the laptop as it came out the factory. When i got the laptop i created rescue media and have a set of 4 disks, All DVD(2 are 8.5GB). The R&R  boots and asks for the Final C disk. None of the disks display in the backup listbox. Before i went for a fresh install using a Windows 7 disk, i got R&R to off load media to a portable drive. This will boot to a different version of R&R similar to the post 2008 walkthrough. But the screen i get does not have the radio button for Factory restore, just the backup and when i put my DVD's in, no backup is found from the media i have... I removed the factory partition after i created the media as i presumed i could get back to the factory using them. My fresh install of windows 7 works but downloading the wireless driver from Lenovo doesn't activate... wish i never started to mess with it now.... Any suggestions???

I had 4 disks in a bundle, the first being the Rescue repair disk, which boots to a similar screen. As 1 of my disks didn't do anything in the various rescue and recovery application i used from previous thinkpads. Turned out this was bootable and the proper rescue and recovery for my set of disks... cdrivebackup.swm took ages to load and then asked for the second disk. Answer:Need Lenovo 3000 N100 0768 6VG Recovery disk for download

Didn't you make your own recovery disks. It has become standard that the OEM provides recovery media. Lenovo, as well as most other comuter manufacturer, includes the recovery partition. This partition is considered a recovery media. The user manual recommends that you create recovery disks at first boot. Have you tried booting into the recovery partition?

The Cause:My PC became really slow and unresponsive so I wanted to restart it, and since I was in the hurrry I coulnd wait for a proper restart so I pressed and hold the power button... The Problem:Now I can't boot again, right after I see the WinXP logo and the loading symbols when starting, a blue error screen (with text that I can't read so fast) is displayed for less then a second, and the computer reboots itself. I can't even boot in "safe mode" - same behaviour The Solution:So I thought, that's why you have a recovery system - use it to fix the problem. The problem is - I can't. Within the "Rescue and Recovery"-Environment the only link/button that is working is "Restart". All the other ones like "rescue files" or "restore your system" are indeed clickable but nothing happens, no action no message nothing at all...  Someone with similar experience out there? Hope you can help me! Thanks in advance!/Nikolay

I've a sick Lenovo 3000 N200 that was running XP home. I could no longer boot into XP, and could only access the Rescue and Recovery utility in the Lenovo Recovery Partition which would rebuild the hard disk to factory settings ie. Windows XP again with no data. I managed to copy off the data using a Paragon rescue cd, and then made the fatal mistake of attempting a MBR repair which was a very tempting option on the Paragon rescue cd. Now, not only does it not boot to XP, but I can no longer even run Rescue and Recovery to reinstall XP which is the problem!!!!If I boot with a windows install disk and take the recovery console option it stops, reporting that "Recovery console did not find any hard disk drives connected to your computer. Setup cannot continue"I wondered if restoring someone else's MBR backup might help me with this? So, if anyone has a working Lenovo 3000 N200 and is prepared to try backing up the MBR to send to me, then please get in touch. It's probably worth making a backup for yourself in case the same problems happens to you!  I believe there's a bunch of programs that will backup the MBR for example MBRtool, MBRWizard and so on.  Any ideas, offers gratefully accepted. Yes I know I could buy the recovery disk from Lenovo but it's a matter of principle for me to avoid paying them  £50 or so if I can avoid it! Let's see if we can help ourselves here.....  thanks Simonides

I am doing a fresh install in the following rather than cloning because the system has not been reinstalled for 4yrs.  From an external usb CD drive (internal drive removed) I installed the recovery disks onto a 160GB Samsung HM160HC PATA drive with no problem .  Then clicked the restart button.  My T42 booted right back into the opening page of the Rescue and Recovery routine.  On restarting again I used F12 to get the list of drives and selected the Samsung HDD.  This did not help.  Have repeated startup numerous times.  The computer could not be looking at any other drive because the Samsung is the only one connected.  I am tempted to download Lenovo's available BIOS update while logged-in with the old 30GB drive regardless of the fact that my  Embedded Controller Program is ver 3.04 and supposed to be suitable for the 160GB drive upgrade.  If anyone has a suggestion please let me know.

Answer:T42 HDD upgrade- Recovery disks install but hard drive only boots to Rescue and Recovery routine.

Welcome to the forum!

Wipe the hard drive clean.

Boot from the first (Rescue & Recovery CD) and follow the prompts. You'll have 7 more CDs to go through (5 for the earlier version).

Once the process is complete, the machine will instruct you to remove the final CD and reboot. At that point, you should be able to boot from the hard drive with no interaction required.

Good luck.

Accidentally deleted Recovery Partition and lost discs. Can I recover by downloading windows 7 somewhere using the product key found on the back of my laptop? I am a total newbie at this. If anyone could help with this, please send a link or any info that would help. Thanks!

Answer:Accidentally deleted Recovery Partition and lost disks

Yes, you can download an ISO and use the key off of the back of your laptop to activate it. Here is a source for the ISO:

Download Windows 7 ISOs, Legally and for Free | PCsteps.com

This will be a clean install, though. It won't have any of the laptop manufacturer's bloatware and utility programs on it. If you want all of that still, you'll have to contact the manufacturer and get replacement restore disks.

I'll be upgrading my T520 from Windows 7 to Windows 8 (clean install) and want to create a full, restorable backup of my system first. I'm confused about just which method to go with.  In Control panel, there is a "Lenovo-Factory recovery disks".  And then there is also Rescue & Recovery, which I just installed.  From the online instructions, it looks like with R&R, I can select either the OS and/or Data.  If I select OS, is this the same as running the Control panel item, Factory recovery disks?? I will probably create the OS backup media separate from the Data media anyway, since I want to copy the data over to my clean install of Windows 8. Thanks!

Answer:Use "Factory recovery disks" or "Rescue & recovery"?

The Recovery Disks are a must have do burn them to DVD's (3 - DVD are burnt). These 3 DVD allow you to reinstall the the Windows 7, tools drivers etc to the state it came from the factory. It becomes clean start as you originally got it. They maybe also used to boot into for the repair console but I am not certain as I haven't tried it myself. Now having said that which should be clear. You want an IMAGE of the DRIVE which includes 3 partitions. One is no good since Lenovo boots via Rapidstart via "System_Drv" partition. If you look in Disk Management you'll see that is the active boot partition. You need it and the Windows partitions a minimum. But that leave the Q drive omitted. Few people take into account that even though they have a backup of the HD they DON'T have the means to read it to put it back. Its fine if you just going to over write a working system from the backup but not it the application or tools are missing. Acronis Trueimage is OS independent and allow for a Boot CD to be made for those situation in which you can restore a HD, a partition or even folder and files from the same backup. This is what you'd want or something equivalent and 100% that you'll have access to it afterwards. I doubt you'd be able to easily do all this will R&R  and there is no way to verify that in advance. Many time the backup is no good and you're SOL. Trueimage can verify the image file created that its good if you which so you know. You can create as many imag... Read more

After I did a clean install of Win10 about a year ago, I created a USB Recovery Drive. I also have a Norton Security Recovery Drive and I?ve created USB Bootable PE Rescue Disk by Kyhi. I also use Acronis to create regular full disk images and I have a USB Bootable Acronis Rescue Drive.

With the USB Recovery Drive and the USB Bootable PE Rescue Disk by Kyhi, do I still need to keep the Recovery Partition that Win10 created when I did the original install? Are the files in that partition used by the system to create the USB Recovery Drive?

Also out of curiosity I executed the ?reagentc/info? command and I see that the Windows RE status is disabled. Did creating the USB Recovery Drive do that or is something else going on? If I keep the recovery partition then do I need to re-enable it and if so how do I do that?

Answer:Recovery Drive vs Recovery Partition vs PE Rescue Disk, confused.

Hi, you don't need the manufacturer's recovery partition unless you planned to restore the PC to as bought e.g. to sell it on.
You could create a disk image of it and save it on an external disk, then delete it from your PC.

Windows RE: Suggests you have a corrupt or missing partition - System Reserved. Note that Disk Management does not show this 16Mb partition. You need a 3rd party partition manager to see it.

See this (lots of technical detail):
Just a moment...

And do a couple of checks to see if it really is missing.

I was having problem with C:\ running out of space to install the new programs. So I have incresed the size of C:\ with the space claimed by resizing D:\ using Windows VISTA Disk Management. The One key recovery, which was working until now, stopped working.
When I press One key recovery, it goes through all the usual windows stopping at the last window and throwing
"The hard disk partition is different from the factory preconfigured backup. System Recovery can not be done" before requesting to exit.
What should I do now to make the One key recovery work and bring back my laptop to factory configured settings.

Hi, everyone.I'm quite sure I found this on-line and that it's doable, but now that I need it, of course I can't find it!My computer-illiterate sister has an eMachines Windows Vista computer that will no longer boot either normally or in safe mode; it hangs on crcdisk.sys.  She didn't make recovery disks when she got the computer, and the recovery console that comes up when it tries to boot also hangs.  She believes that it was interrupted while running a Windows update, but she's not entirely certain about that.  Anyway, her primary concern was recovering her pictures and documents, and I was able to do that by booting off a bootable Ubuntu CD.   Thus she now has everything she needs from that computer.  Before we take the sledgehammer to it, I want to fiddle with it and see whether I can get it booting into Windows off of the hard drive again so she can use it again, even if only for going on-line and not for saving precious stuff.I thought I read somewhere that if the recovery partition was readable (as it -- and the rest of the hard drive -- seem to be) that you could copy it up onto an external hard drive, then create recovery CD's on a different computer, but I can no longer find the instructions on how to do that.  Is that do-able, and if so, can I do it on an XP computer, or do I need to use a Win7 computer (I don't have a Vista computer).  Can I do it right off of the external hard drive, or d... Hi, I have a Lenovo 3000 N200 running Windows XP. Windows XP crashed beyond repair and I need to do a system restore. I do not have any Recovery CD's. I am told to press the "Lenovo Care" button. This gives me various options and option 3 is to press F11 to diagnose hardware or recover your system. If I select this, it is ignored and trys to boot Windows - obviously to no avail. I have checked the hard drive. I have run a disk test and all is fine. I have also connected it to another computer and can see the various partitions including the recovery. I have also been able to remove important data and back this up. I am therefore happy the hard disk is fine and the recovery partition is in place. Is there any way of getting the system restore to kick in? All help very much appreciated! Mark

Answer:System recovery on 3000 N100

You can delete the folder and it will not affect how yor system works.
There is however a BUT. If you should have a problem with a driver update, or something else, the folder contains all drivers and pre-installed apps which enable driver roll back if necessary.
I would suggest burning it to a dvd if you really need the space

After suffering a virus, have formatted HD and am trying to use the CD to recover to factory settings.  The recovery process goes through installing the "pre-desktop" drivers, asks me to power machine off and re-start,  and then after re-start it prompts me to insert Recovery CD1. I only have this one CD, but it gives an error message that it is the incorrect CD and refuses to continue. How can I fix this? Thanks.

Which I couldn?t? it made system only vista bootable again...        After doing that although I was able to boot on vista but I am not able to go into recovery module?         At the time of startup? there is a button called lenovo care in notebook which intrupts normal windows boot and lead to recovery module? using this module I can reinstall vista as it was at the time of factory production?. I think there was a entry for that also in boot load file.. But I don?t know where to find that file in system and how to restore it... Thanks

'Startup sounds' as in the windows music or 'startup sounds' as in you hear fans and drives spinning up? If the former then you've got some kind of video problem. Try booting to safe mode. If it loads to the desktop set resolution to 800 x 600 and reboot to normal mode. Then try setting a higher resolution if desired. If the latter, well it still sounds like video. Do you have both an on-board video port and an added card? If so try both.

I need to create a set of recovery/rescue disks for my laptop. Its a Windows 8 T530 laptop. I can't find any software provided by Lenovo for doing this. What do I do? Thanks.

Answer:how do I create a recovery/rescue disks?

Not sure about Windows 8... but in 7 if you type in 'recovery disk' you should get some options provided by the OS. Also in 7... if you open the Lenovo ThinkVantage Tool, it should have an option for making recovery disks.  I would presume that would remain largely the same under 8. HTH, Monte

Summary: I'm trying to use the recovery disks with my SL510 and they're "hanging" before they get to the "license agreement" screen of the recovery tool. History of the problem and more details are as follows:   My SL510 is having hard drive issues. It won't boot, and gives an error message that a drive is failing with the following error code:Status: 0xc00000e9 So I went into the BIOS and ran the hard drive check, and got "Error Code: 0000 Read Verification Failed." I'm not getting the click of death. The hard drive appears to be trying to spin up fine, it's just--at minimum--corrupted as heck. Or maybe the connection where the drive is plugged in is bad. I don't know. Anyway, I ordered Rescue and Recovery media on the assumption that I'm probably going to have to replace the hard drive. Still, just in case it's fixable by a reformat or re-install, I figured I'd try the recovery media before messing with the hardware. So I moved the internal CD drive to the first position in the boot order list in the bios and saved it. No problem there. Then I put "Operating System Recovery Disc Windows 7 Professional SP 1" (disc 1 of 2) in the drive and turned the computer on. Results: I get the Thinkpad startup screen, then I get "Windows is loading files..." and the white bar that expands across the bottom of the screen as the files load. After a minute or two I get the "(c) Microsoft Corporation" logo at the bottom of the screen under a ... Read more

Answer:Error when using Rescue and Recovery disks

Update: I powered off the machine (yet again) and powered up and this time I did get to the language selection and accept licensing agreement screens. Now I've got "product recovery is restoring the system, please wait."I have no idea whether this is going to work or not. It depends on whether the hard drive was just badly corrupted and this does a low level format and manages to "fix" it, or whether the problem with the drive is more mechanical--like a bad connection between the drive itself and the rest of the system. And thus I have no idea (yet) whether my underlying problem was dying electronics or mechanical stuff OR just garden variety disk corruption. Can someone in the know tell me if behind the scenes the "product recovery" utility's idea of "preparing" the hard disk is a low level re-format or not?I did see the note in the repair manual that said recovery from disks could take up to 8 hours, so now that it's gotten this far, I will (of course) be leaving the machine completely alone overnight.

To help some people out... I read some of you formatted your drive and now are stuck without the ability to restore Win 8 if you went to Win 7 before you knew there was an issue, or lost your recovery partition for any other reason. FYI, if you can get your hands on ANY Win 8 disk (doesn't matter if its Professional or the Regular version) and install it, your serial key for Win 8 is hardcoded into your motherboard BIOS. Therefore, if you have access to a disk, you can simply install and it will auto activate and install your pre installed key. No need to spend $90 or more if you don't have to. If you don't have an external DVD Drive, simply download the Win7 to USB tool from Microsoft (it will work for Win 8) and transfer the disk image to a USB thumb drive (from another PC of course). Then boot from the thumb drive to install. Note: You will have to go into the BIOS to turn OFF UEFI and allow it to boot and install from a thumb drive. In my experience, I had to turn off UEFI in the BIOS (Get to BIOS by pressing F2 at boot). By turn off, I mean place in "Legacy" mode. Then save and exit and allow to restart. Upon restart, enter the BIOS once again and you should now see your thumb drive appear on the list of bootable devices (the thumb drive has to be connected BEFORE booting into BIOS). Move the thumb drive up the list to be the first boot device, save and exit and you are in business. Also, if you have access to the MSDN, you can actually download the R... Read more

I bought lenovo thinkpad X230 in January 2013. I made a recovery USB on a 16 GB pendrive. I bought a windows 8 pro upgrade offer as well. But i did not install it at that time and kept it for future use.  About a week ago I installed windwos 8 on my system in dual boot mode making a partition on primary HDD.everything went ok with only problem that my windows 8 did not activate. I was ok with that. But when i tried F11 recovery function, it was not working. So i tried factory reset through recovery USB i created earlier. It opened up and said BOOTMGR missing. Later with some research I realized that i didnt make USB active (bootable) before burning it.(Though this is ridiculous considering, tools provided must have done that. Like when you make windows bootable.) With all this(and me panicking), I tried backing up my data with image i created through R & R tool. After back up, I lost my recovery partition on HDD. And I guess i accidentally deleted System_DRV partition as well.  Though my computer is running fine. I need a bootable media. it would be great if you can provide it. Also if you can restore my comp to factory setting with recovery partition, it would be great. Please help me. Thanks in advance.

Hi, You can make bootable media (CD, USB stick or USB HDD) for using with your Factory Recovery Data USB stick.Just launch Lenovo Factory Recovery Disks app from Control Panel, deselect Data media creation, select needed Boot media type. Note you'll need less then 300 mb free space on media.

Hi everybody!
I have HP Desktop with Windows 7 Home Premium.

When I was using Vista there was a difference between using recovery partition on the hard drive to restore Windows and Recovery disks that you create yourself.

The Recovery Partition one would only restore your computer to it's shipping condition - meaning that if I had partitioned the drive and had Windows partition separately from my other files it will erase all of it and get rid of that new partition of mine along with all my files.

If I used the disks - it will give me an option of shipping condition OR just to reinstall Windows partition of my drive so all other files are not erased.

In Windows 7 the created disks give me only one choice - Factory System Reset. Does it mean that it will erase it ALL or just the Windows partition?

I really don't want to back up 300GB of my data... just need the Windows partition erased and reinstalled. Will Recovery Disks do that or is there any other option for doing it with Windows 7?

Answer:Recovery Disks or Recovery Partition

I would not run the Recovery Disks without backing up data. It doesn't sound like they will let you choose where to install Win7.

You can always borrow or locate a clean retail copy of your version Win7 to clean install with Product Key on your COA sticker on machine. Many tech enthusiasts do this to avoid the bloatware and useless factory utilities. Let us know if you want more information on this.

You can also make your own Win7 Backup image saved externally so you never have to reinstall or recover again, just reimage from the saved file. Backup Complete Computer - Create an Image Backup

Hi,I have a Lenovo 3000 C100 0761 with Windows XP installed and want to wipe the hard drive and restore it to the factory setting. Some time ago the C drive was partioned to install Win 98 for some software that didn't like XP. Later the partition was removed and C drive returned to it's original state. Now I don't get an option to enter Rescue and Recovery when I press the Lenovo Care button at the start up screen. The hidden partition is still in place and has not been touched. I guess the master boot record has been modified when changing the C drive partition. How can I restore the Lenovo care button and Rescue & Recovery options. Thanks for any advice or suggestions.RegardsChris

Use a partition editor and try to put the hidden partition as ACTIVE (just to boot from there). Then restore completely your system (if it works).

COULD NOT FIND RECOVERY ENVIRONMENT
(I know it's a redundant thread but I think I'm having a different scenario)
Specs: (nothing's changed except I did reinstall win8.1)
- win8.1 x64 single languange
- 1TB HDD
■THE SCENARIO■
There was a time when I want to resize my drive C to smaller partition:
I used Easus Partion Manager to do so (to dumb I was). After rebooting my system could not start
The BSOD showed up:

PC needs repair (blah3x)
Error code: 0x000225
I was able to manage to repair and I came back up fine using a tutorial in youtube
using bcdboot C:\Windows /s (any drive letter): /s uefi
At this point, I downloaded a new copy of windows8.1 SL, thru "mediacreationtool" (as a legit copy i suppose)
and then I reinstalled using the ISO from MS, now I'm totally OK, at least at the moment.

■THE ISSUE■
Seems like everything's working as it is now, but as soon as I try to press F9 upon boot up, same error popup
Error Code: 0x000225, and again I got used to doing the bcdboot method.
NOW, this "Restore" partition the size of 20GB, and appeared and it had something in it (some files I think).

This wasn't there before and after reinstallation of win8.1 SL. IT ONLY appeared when I pressed F9 then I repaired
it using bcdboot.

I am just setting up a new 3000 H210 desktop, and wanted to create a set of recovery CDs/DVDs so I can at least get back to the factory install image if I need to replace the hard drive after the warranty ends.  After digging around for a while and not finding a way to create the recovery disks, I tried calling Lenovo support.  They said that this model does not have a way to create the recovery disks!  Is this true?  Hopefully the person I spoke to was mistaken.  If anyone knows how to create recovery disks for this model, please let me know. If not, any other suggestions for creating a bootable image to get back to my current PC state (still close to factory settings) if needed later?

Answer:How to create recovery disks for 3000 H210 ?

Nevermind, I found the answer to my question.  Buried inside the Windows Vista Quick Start Guide that came with the computer was a "Lenovo Product Recovery DVD".  So I guess that explains why there is no option to create your own - they already give it to you.  So credit to Lenovo for including the recovery DVD (like in the old days).  Now they just need to make sure their tech support folks know where to point people to find it.

Answer:Re: lost recovery disc and recovery partition

As I see, you have no more options as :

1 Order [Recovery disk|https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx] from Toshiba for money and wait for 2 weeks
2 Get Windows copy to install. All Toshiba drivers/utilities you can download from [Toshiba Driver Page|http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp]
If you need assistance in driver installation order, can help you

The product key she has belongs to original recovery image you got with your notebook and it is not some ?universal key? that you can use with every OS installation.

Hello, So I just received my X300 in the mail I am trying to determine wether it has a fault or if the software on the Rescue and Recovery partition for this model is different than most. I have run all available updates through the ThinkVantage System Update application and version 4.2 of Rescue and Recovery is what is installed. When I boot R&R from the ThinkVantage button at startup the workspace loads normally. However, when I get passed the simple interface there is nothing listed under the "Diagnostic" section. There is a link for "Diagnostic Overview" which opens a window providing information that seems to indicate I should be able to load the PC-Doctor for DOS program from the R&R menu but this option does not seem to exist. My ThinkPad is configured without an optical drive so I cannot boot the stand-alone PC-Doctor for DOS image that is available for download. Mostly I'm just trying to understand how I would troubleshoot the hardware on this computer in the event that the primary OS will not boot, I am not currently experiencing an issue. Thanks in advance for any help / clarification.

Answer:No diagnostics available in Rescue and Recovery partition

Find PC-Doctor for Windows, which probably is included in your start menu. You can do "check system health" from there.

Hi all, recently I decided to reformat my laptop and found that the rescue and recovery process that came with the laptop doesn't seem to work and when I called technical support, they said it would cost money to send me the recovery CDs.  I am wondering, before I pay, if this is common practice?  Thanks for your time,

Answer:Rescue and Recovery Partition doesn't work

I don'tr know what is "normal" but charging for the media seems like an extremely poor choice on the part of Lenovo AND in my opinion it should always be sent out with a new computer.  That is what I had experienced in the many years that I bought Dell laptops - just recently bought my first ThinkPad (W510) and am in general quite pleased with it. I just had an entirely different issue with Lenovo (they gave me inaccurate and misleading information about th build and then based on my purchase decision on that).  As part of my negotiation with them for fairness and to keep me as a relatively satisfied customer one of the things that I got was the recovery media at no charge - I am in USA. Since you voluntarily chose to reformat your computer it perhaps a slightly different situation, but unless you did something "wrong" the recovery partition "shaould have" worked for you as part of that process.  Unfortunately, as I understand from this forum and elsewhere the partition does not always work and that is why most recommend burning your own media or to have it from the mfg.  It is more than an annoyance that Lenovo and others no longer spend the few dollars in their cost to provide this, and I would recommend politely complaining especially if you can point to documented cases where your model has failed and a different person tried to use the recovery partition and the latter did not work. Seemingly you are without your machine; have relied on... I think I have a similar issue, although I did not do a factory restore. I bought my T61 running Vista Home Premium this summer, and within a couple of months, the second entry under the Productivity Center's Quick Links is blank (actually, there is a bullet point with a few stray pixels just to its left). I think it may have been labelled Backup Now, because I can still click it and it will launch Rescue and Recovery. Not a critical bug, but annoying and the sort of thing I expected to avoid by purchasing from a top name in the business.

Hello, How can I make bootable rescue and recovery (factory default) partition to USB-stick/-hard drive? When my hard disk fails (as it will) and I install new hard drive do I then get free recovery USB-stick from Lenovo? Or how this works with computers without DVD-drive. I would not like to go Linux/dd etc. zone. Just dead simple next, next, next prog which makes bootable USB-stick and copies recovery data to stick.

Hi,What is the difference between the two?? Sorry if this is a stupid question lol Can I still back up from previous state using rescue and recovery if i do not have the Q partition?? b/c i do not think I will ever bring this laptop to the factory state again.

Answer:Difference between the Q partition recoverable Boot and the Rescue and Recovery??

The Q partition is where lenovo puts the files needed to build the factory recovery DVDs.  You cannot actually boot to this partition, and this partition has nothing to do with rescue & recovery.  You can safely delete the Q partition if you have already built the recovery DVDs or if you're sure that you won't ever need them in the future.  Obviously lenovo encourages you to build the recovery DVDs just in case, you never know when you might need them in the future!

Hi I am new to forum and have very limited computer knowledge. I need to restore my Thinkpad edge 15 to factory settings but when I press enter to interupt normal setup, Rescue and Recovery workspace doesn't open. All I get is 3 options: to start up from temporary backup disc or something like that, enter BIOS setup, or enter normal startup. How can I access the Rescue and Recovery Workspace to access Full Restore? Any advice or help would be very much appreciated...PLEASE!

Hi,My T61p has suddenly stopped booting up properly, the ThinkVantage button doesn't work (I cannot access Rescue and Recovery) and I am traveling and do not have my backup CD with me. Is there a way I can get access to the hidden partition with Vista on it and rebuild from there? I found this website that seems to describe what I want to do:http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4UFUYKHowever, my Thinkpad neither came with a floppy disk drive (which computer nowadays does?) and I also don't have a folder c:/IBMTOOLS that is mentioned in there. My details are:- I am running Vista Ultimate (english version)- T61p- I only have access to a French version of Vista Business to start a recovery console (with which I backed up my files)The symptoms are:- Cannot access Rescue and Recovery (when I press the button I only get a screen asking me to access the BIOS, boot normally or boot from a different device)- Several system drivers seem to be missing (e.g. intelide.sys or acpi.sys)- My MBR may have been destroyed previously (a Vista tool recreated it)- Both my HD and main memory passed diagnostic tests, so the problem isn't thereMy questions are:- Is there a way I can access the hidden partition and initiate a reinstall from there from the command-line (my French recovery console)- Is there a way I can recover access to Rescue and Recovery without requiring a floppy disk?Any help is appreciated,Petra

Hello,I am attempting to use BitLocker on my X61 Tablet ThinkPad but have run across an error message that is preventing me from initializing the BitLocker encryption. The message reads as follows: "Your system is not configured to use BitLocker Drive Encryption. If there is a bootable CD or DVD in your computer, remove it...if the problem persists, contact the computer manufacturer for BIOS upgrade instructions." I have run the BitLocker Drive Preparation Tool which has created its own boot drive (S and that program tells me that all is in order.  Additionally, I have verified that I have a fully updated BIOS.There is no bootable CD or DVD in the computer but there is what I assume to be Lenovo's Recovery software on a hidden and unalterable drive that appears in Disk Management. I cannot make changes to this drive; it is labeled only as"Healthy" and "EISA Configuration."Is this recovery drive the culprit that is preventing BitLocker from working? And if so, can it be disabled or BitLocker tricked into functioning while it is still present? Thanks for your help!

Answer:BitLocker prevented from working by Rescue and Recovery Partition?

You might want to take a look at the Rescue & Recovery Deployment Guide which can be downloaded from the Admin Tools page:   http://www.lenovo.com/thinkvantageadmin There is a section in there about  compatibility with Vista BitLocker.

HI All, Can anyone tell me how to properly partition the HD in order for the Blue Button(thinkVantage) to work again? Does it matter in the order how you create the partition...? (I create one partition then separate them via Partition Manager)I load the image back via Norton Ghost v10... but the Rescue and Recovery section is not responding... I remember the section is created as (EISA system) as it is reported by Disk Manger (not extended or logical type) Please help here... thanks

Don't bother the partition or it will not work. You probably need to fix the MBR with this.

Hello,

My daughters computer is very much in need of a complete wipe, however I can not find the disk that came with the system to do this. I have the original key, but no disks. Can I get another copy or download a copy as long as I have my serial number? Also, if I have to change out the motherboard, will that disk work, I have heard that they are tied into the board that came with the system

Thank you

Hi,

Recently, my Mozilla Firefox has been stalling: some tabs will be in the "loading" stage forever". When I exit the program, it stays on as a process, and in fact cannot be terminated, even by task manager (and furthermore, shutting down takes forever if this dead firefox.exe process is open). Along with this, various other software have been misbehaving, causing frequent freezes and crashes.

That is not really the problem, however. I have decided to simply restore my computer to factory settings, but I am having trouble doing this as well. According to the Lenovo manual*, I should reboot, press the "Lenovo Care" button, and then follow the instructions. However, as Rescue and Recovery is starting up, it asks for a master password. This is something I almost surely did not set, and if I did, it would have been one of the passwords I commonly use. None of these work. Any suggestions?

(*Note: The guide can be found here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/s...V100&family=Notebooks and handhelds|3000 V100)

I realise that this is a very specific question, but I thought I'd ask anyway on the off-chance that someone knows how to deal with it.

Thanks.

If I press the button next to start, it does not make any difference.Secondally,I had given my laptop to somebody and he was able to start rescue and recovery. Now, I had 2 partions drive C and D. I do not the settings but Drive D copied to C and all the system files are now in drive D.As the drives have been changed now, I am trying to re execute rescue and recovery but in vain as I am not confident about lenovo care button. If I am able to, is there any other way to change drive. I tried installing softwares but invain  as i think they look for some executable like windows installer in drive C, which is drive D now.Can somebody help me in getting my system right? Thanks in advance for any help provided. Gateway M-6881
Anybody have any ideas...

a. The FACTORY recovery DVDs (2) that I have will not boot. Usually they just run until a window pops up to insert a blank CD, but you can do that forever--and it just cycles through repeatedly. A couple of times it did proceed to a second window indicating the restore was proceeding, but the bar did not advance, and after a minute or so, it too failed (sorry, don't remember the exact indications).

b. Trying to start recovery using the hidden partition... does not work either.
When you use Programs>Gateway>Gateway Recovery Management>Restore tab and command it...it simply proceeds to a shutdown and reboots right back into Vista. Second way-- the manufacturer enter-recovery-during-boot process (Left Alt-F10 while "Gateway" is onsceen, also simply proceeds to boot thru into Vista.

Some things I have determined:
-A different bootable DVD will boot the machine, so DVD drive is working--at least READ.
-ASIDE: Using the internal utility at Programs>Gateway>Gateway Recovery Management to try to burn either a full recovery set (2 DVDs) or a "Drivers and Applications" set both fail--do not do it.
-File folder structure on the two factory recovery DVDs can be viewed
-chkdsk C: /r has been run and found a few seemingly insignificant things, which were 'fixed'
-The F8 menu does NOT contain "Repair your computer' entry.

Quite frustrated to have three ways to do it and none works.

Answer:Neither recovery partition nor disks work

Repair computer option is on a retail disc not the F8 menu

Hi, HP Notebook - 15-r205ne (ENERGY STAR) My laptop came with windows 8.1 64Bits pre-installed, but later I installed a fresh copy of Windows 10 (64 Bits) over it, without making any recovery disks. Now I want to switch back to windows 8.1 , I still have the D Partition containing recovery files, but going to F11 doesn't help me.Any suggessions on how can I make recovery disks from the D partition within windows 10 and then use those disks to install the original OS back? Thanks in Advance!

Answer:Creating Recovery Disks from Partition on another OS

If you did an upgrade or custom install to Windows 10 and not a 'clean' install within the last 30 days it's easy to go back to Windows 8.1 Revert from Windows 10 to Windows 8.1 Otherwise you will need to purchase recovery media from HP.   If you found my answer helpful please say thanks by clicking on the Thumb's Up icon.If my answer solved your problem please mark it as the Accepted Solution. Lenovo 3000 N200 with XP.I've been trying to do a system recovery back to factory settings using the the boot recovery option at startup. It took 3 attempts (2 crashes) just to get XP back up and running, but it was completely blank with no software or drivers and no internet connection to download drivers etc.Just the lonely recycle bin icon in the corner. Well this is uesless I thought and decided to have a go with the recovery CD's instead. When the first CD has done it's thing it asks for CD number 1, which I put in, and it tells me it's the wrong CD. I have tried all the CD's I have and they are all the wrong CD apparantely! So I was going nowhere with that method and decided to revert back to the initial boot method. Only that is completely messed up and now asks me for disk 1 which doesn't work. So now my laptop is knackered with no way of reinstalling XP from either the boot menu or the recovery disks. I've even tried installing XP from an official Windows XP disk and it's not having that either! What can I do? Ask Lenovo for a set of recovery CD's? How much would that cost? And would they even work? Thanks for any advice Message Edited by bobtheblob on 10-03-2008 04:50 PM

Hello to everyone viewing this forum. I'm from the Philippines, and this is my first time posting in the forums. I bought my Lenovo 3000 N100 Notebook from Singapore, and it's over a year old now. Well, we all know that the built-in ThinkVantage Rescue and Recovery program gives us a last resort when our laptops fail, and we all know that the hard drive partition where it resides is in a partition that is hidden, right? Well here's my problem.. I encountered a Windows problem which made me use a borrowed Windows operating system disk to repair it (via Windows startup repair), as although I have created recovery media already, I still want to back-up my data before that. Now after I have gone through the Windows Startup Repair service, and when I logged on, I was surprised to see the supposed to be hidden partition now appearing in My Computer! And as if that's not enough, when I try to boot Rescue and Recovery via the Lenovo Care button, it doesn't work anymore! Neither can I make Rescue and Recovery medium (Create Rescue Media on the Internal Hard drive) as it gives the following error: "The Files required for creating the rescue media cannot be found." And when I try to make Rescue Media on a CD/DVD: "An internal error has caused this process to fail." I would like to ask all you kind people here for your help with this issue.I'm considering backing up all files I need via the Rescue and Recovery workspace, but since I can't access R&R I'm ... So, in a nutshell, I have been bitten by the Bluetooth uninstall bug that has completely trashed my Windows 7 boot partition.  I tried to install the latest version and near the end of installation, it threw up an error message and then rolled back.  Upon reboot, i had an error message coming up about bluetooth.  So, I tried again to update but same error.  So, i figured I would uninstall the current installed version and then install the new version.  Well, uninstalling the old version blew out my drive by deleting just about everthing that was in the partition.  Of course, after the uninstall it stated i need to reboot for changes to take effect.  When I rebooted, threw up a black screen with message about corruption and to put in windows 7 disk and try and repair.  That didn't work (obviously as most of my files are gone). I have a parttion on the drive with Win XP Pro and that will boot but the version of Rescue and Recovery under XP will not load the backups that were created under Windows 7 and R&R v. 4.3.1. So, my question is, how do i restore my backup on the Windows 7 partition?  Do i need to reinstall from the Win 7 disk to the Windows 7 partition and then install R&R 4.3.1 and then run and restore from the backup or is there some other easier way I can run a version of R&R v.4.3.1 to do a restore. Any and all help greatly appreciated. Thanks. Dan

Answer:How can I run Rescue and Recovery to restore Partition that was blown out by Bluetooth uninstall

I think you can hit F11 at POST to boot into the R&R environment, where it should let you restore from an existing backup. You can also consider running a file recovery tool on the drive to try and recover some files.

Hello - I'm attempting to breathe new life into a pair of T60s [Both are 2006AY7] with new HDDs.  {One ... i dropped ; the second ... caught a sophisticated virus , i think}. During this (yet unsuccessful) process , i began by installing the OEM Recovery disk (5? CD set) , and then a distribution of XP , which enabled partitioning and formating (DiskPart?). I intend to install XP and apps on one partition , and data on another , perhaps linux elsewhere at a later date. The Recovery diskset seemed to want the service partition (host protected area?) as the first 10GB . I accidently/desperately later then began to install the XP system there . My present plan of attack is to use an external bay to partition/format the new HDD using the XP tools from another  (functional) system , then install the new HDD in the (temporarily) deceased T60 , after which i'll again use the factory Recovery disk set to see how/if it procedes. What file system should i format the service/HPA partition with/to? The XP primary partition will , of course , be formatted for NTFS. Thanks for your patience! -Tom  m , fr ny....

The recovery disks will wipe out any partitioning that you do. (BTW, it isn't an HPA)

Hi, I have a 5yr old Lenovo R50e laptop 1842st, x86, 1.60 Ghz, 512MB, with xp sp3; and I recently started getting Blue Screen warning that shuts down my system due to possible severe problem. I was then redirected to Microsoft site that said there was severe problem threat with Lenovo Rescue and recovery and to upgrade.
I went to the site and downloaded XP version of upgrade tvtrnr423_016en.exe; but could not install without uninstalling old version.
BEFORE I uninstall Rescue & Recovery w/Rapid Restore (Ultra 4.0 per Access IBM R&R) I'd like to know if this is the right thing to do. When I read the ReadMe and Download instructions for this download, it states it is only compatible with Client Security Solution 8.0 or later and with R&R versions 3.1,4.0,4.1,4.2 and 4.21. The R&R, thru control panel properties shows ver 1.00.0033.04.
I don't want to uninstall original version unless this applies.
1) Is this the right upgrade? How can I tell Client security version? and Original R&R ver?
2) Do I need to do anything else, based on my setup then uninstall original R&R, and then reinstall new ver 4.23? (Currently 17GB free of 32GB total)
3) I also googled lenovo Rescue & Recoery upgrades and have found "major" problems with the upgrade. (Doing complete reinstalls, lack of space/repartion, etc.)
4) Is it necessary? Can I continue to function with this threat hole? I use PC/web personally, minimally, and keep Norton Insternet security up ... Read more

But my mom's laptop is currently facing a problem, each time we start the computer it will stay at the start up screen for very long so i'll press the 'ENTER' Button.Later there will be a loading bar, when its done loading it brings us to the Rescue & Recovery page (grey background with a life buoy), i click enter again and it shows a bar saying something like this: Waiting for updates to finish initializing. Hello

I have a lenovo 3000 c200 laptop. Some time ago I installed Windows 7 over the win xp which originally came with it, i left the hidden partition untouched.

Now i want to restore the system to factory default but there are a few problems:

- Somehow the system won't load the recovery functions stored on the hidden partition (named servicev001) when i press F11 at the menu after booting, it just resumes loading windows.
- Getting the recovery CDs from lenovo is not possible.
- I can't install the RnR software from the lenovo site.

The recovery files are there, i want to know how can i access the recovery functions so i can restore the system to factory default.

Thanks in advance for your attention, hope you guys can help me, i've been reading a whole lot about it for 2 days and still haven't found a way.

Answer:Lenovo Rescue and recovery problem

allright, this is not an official solution but somehow did the trick, it was an accidental discovery.

I installed ubuntu inside windows using wubi, for no specific reason nor remotely thinking about my problem, i just wanted to try ubuntu.

At the boot menu when i choose Ubuntu, it takes me to another menu where i can choose Win7, Ubuntu or WinXp, if i choose win xp it takes me to the rescue and recovery 3 screen, just what i wanted, so somehow ubuntu made a gateway to the hidden partition, i can't really explain how or why this happened but i can now access the recovery function and restore to factory default.

So well my problem got magically solved, i want to thank you guys for the attention and wish you the best, i'm requesting lock on this thread now... But i might still want to know what did the trick.

My best wishes.

I really like this ability to create a backup on demand, as I have needed the rescue multiple times. (I also have Acronis image backups on an external drive).

The R&R documentation allows for 32 backups. Does anyone know what happens if I try to create a 33rd backup?

A friend thinks it will merge number 33 into number 32, but I'd like to be sure.

Answer:Lenovo desktop Rescue and Recovery

Hi LouCopits,

I'm not sure either but I would have thought you might get a message saying you are out of disc space? Unless you back it up to an external drive? I also have a Lenovo but my backup has stopped working for some unknown reason.

Try backing up to an external source and see if this works. However, a word of warning, when I tried backing up my current C-Drive setting, it did work BUT it actually moved the current setting to the DVDs. In other words, I did not have this back-up setting on the C-Drive anymore!!!

Good luck!
