I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

When only the cable was working I checked for both adaptor driver's updates - 'they are already up to date'. Then the WiFi also stopped working. My adaptors are 'working'. I've been round their Properties Tabs and all is OK. MS diagnostics only say that there probably is a issue with the drivers. 3 other computers plus 3 tablets use the shared router's WiFi without any problems and only 2 are ever used at a time so it's not overloaded. The router is OK. I started the Lenovo Hardware scan but it just went on loading and never started for 12 minutes - a clue here? At least I can still use it offline. Luckily I have a PC to investigate, but as yet no luck even from another forum. Any help please

Answer:WiFi and Ethernet on X201 Tablet now cannot connec...

I firgot to mention- I got this message - 'Windows couldn't automatically bind the ip protocol stack to the network adaptor' Of course I have googled this message but solutions there haven't been of help.

I'm sure this has been asked 1000 times but I cannot seem to find my exact issue anywhere. Hopefully this helps myself and anyone who runs into this issue.

To start, I have Windows 7 Professional 64bit. Everything worked 100% fine with absolutly no issue and then.... I moved. Now we have Fios instead of Comcast.

Now to the issue. When I have the ethernet connected I cannot get internet access but I have full network access. I went out and purchased a new wirless card and wirless works just fine. I tested 2 different cables, recrimped both of them and nothing. I have activity on the PC and the Router so I am sure they are good.

I have tried everything I have read online, Updated Realtek Family PCI Ethernet drivers from MSIglobal. Disabled/Enabled. ipconfig /flushdns, /release and /renew. I went as far as Backing up and reformating the Hard Drive and before reinstalling the backup I tested it and nothing. Restored my backup file and yep.. nothing.

Its kind of frustrating. I'm not exactly and expert but i am in no way a novice either. This one has me stumped. Im thinking maybe it is a windows service that is not set to start correctly but I figured I would creat a post while I am at work and maybe have and answer to test before I hunt through the services tonight.

Any advice is greatly appreciated

Thanks

Answer:Ethernet=No Internet But Wireless Works Fine

This sounds more like a router problem to me. Have you tried resetting your router then using the ipconfig /all command?

My laptop works find as long as I am hard wired to the router but will not connect wirelessly. Anybody have any thoughts?

Answer:any thoughts on why I cannot get a wireless connec...

Probably the two most common issues are:1. Security settings - Check that your key (commonly case sensitive) and security type are correct.2. Router settings - Check that router is set to allow wireless connection (you may need to select 'registration' mode or similar).

Hello, please help I am really frustrated.

I have an old desktop computer (see system info below) that I sometimes use to connect to the internet because it has some programs installed on it that I haven't installed on my new machine. Anyways, I've always had no trouble connecting to our wireless internet using the Linksys wireless-G PCI adapter (model WMP54G), but one day I turned it on and it was unable to connect to any networks. It doesn't seem to be any obvious fixes (re-installed software, tried restarting in safe mode, etc).

I'm not getting any error messages when I try to connect to a network, it just times out and fails. I do however, get an error message when I first start up saying that it was unable to connect to the preferred wireless network. Any help would be greatly appreciated since the user manual and support website for the wireless adapter have been no help!

OS Version: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, Service Pack 3, 32 bit

Hi,

I am unable to connect to my home wifi from my laptop but it connects fine at work. All other devices (2 androids and 1 laptop) are able to connect to the home network. My laptop used to connect intermittently earlier - sometime the connection would be restored when i reset the router or restarted the laptop but now I'm just not able to at all. The message i get is either "Limited Access" or "Unidentified Network. No internet access" - the signal strength always is excellent. I have tried switching off and on the wireless router, have disabled and then enabled the wireless connec on the laptop, have reconfigured the wireless network on the router with a new network name and password but nothing works. However I am able to connect to the internet using the network cable - there were a few times where I couldn't do that either. I've tried browsing on several forums to get answers but haven't found any yet.
Please help! Thanks in advance

how to connect the HP X3000 Wireless Mouse with out Receiver. please help to me.

Answer:lost the USB Receiver for HP Wireless mouse so how to connec...

Hi, You need that receiver for your mouse, other receivers won't work even they look and feel the same. Logitech sells a nano receiver which can connect to 6 devices (mice, keyboards) I don't know it works for HP mouse or not even HP and Logitech mice may come out from same factory.     https://www.logitech.com/en-au/promotions/6072 The code could be from 000 to 999 (same a normal locks). We can't use same code for all. Just imaging 20 people with 20 mice working on computers in a same room. Sorry, there is no other way. Regards.

Hi - a few days back, I installed W7, build 7057. This is on my Dell Laptop with 2GB Ram. I am able to connect to the internet without any problems at home (using a Lilksys wirless router). But at office, W7 connects to the network, I get an IP from te DHCP server, I am able to get my mails through the exchange server. But the problem is that I am not able to connect to the internet!!!

I have released my IPs and flushed the DNS cache, renewed the IP, but at the end, no internet... At home in my wireless network, all is fine!!!

Any help would be appreciated...

Answer:unable to connec to internet in Windows 7

As I recall.....I had some strange problems with build 7057. The problem went away in 7068, 7077, and RC1. If you can get the RC I would try that. They were making internal changes in these builds and 7077 and the RC are a breeze in connecting and networking. I hope you can get your hands on the RC and this helps. The "official" RC comes out today (for technet and msdn subscribers) you may wait and get this copy just to be safe. Next Tuesday we can download it from what I understand.

I connected an audio interface (line6 tonepart UX2) to my PC and it uses a program (line6 Monkey) to update and use it properly, but when I run the software it is failing to connect to the internet.

error message when I try to log in to line 6 monkey is:

Login Failed. Make sure you are connected to the internet
reason: *code 8000204F) sockets: connection refused

I tried disabling all antivirus, firewalls etc and still no luck and found no help on line 6 forums.
I had a similar problem as well with Dropbox client and read a fix to mess with proxy settings in dropboox settings, instead of choose automatic I set it to manual to the default value and it was fixed. There is no way to change setting like this on line6 software and I am not sure what else to do, any help would be great. Thanks.

Hi, this my first time posting and I really would refrain from bothering people if I could, but I've been having this issue with my wireless for the last month so I thought perhaps someone could help.

The OS is a Windows XP home.

I go into IPCONFIG/ALL and it tells me that my wireless is disconnected

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers.
I've tried going into the router (it's a NETGEAR MR814) IP, and I've added it to the list of devices that can connect to it, but it's not working. It just... won't work. It's not that there's a security lock on my router because I've disabled it and it still wouldn't work.

So now I'm completely befuddled, and disheartened, and on the verge of just taking apart my machine were it not for the ethernet connection. Can someone please help?

Answer:Ethernet works fine, Not Wireless

First try going into network property and see if you can see it.
If you see something like "Local Area connection 2" with wireless network card, right click on the icon and view available network/connection.
If you see your wireless router setting, highlight and click "Connect".

Hi all.
First of all, I want to thank you guys in advance for putting your time and effort to solve my issue. any answer would be grateful to me.

My internet provider is At&t and as I mentioned in the title, wireless internet works perfectly fine, but Ethernet connection doesn't work on my desktop. Currently I am using wireless adapter on my PC, and it works just fine. I tried disabling the wireless connection, resetting the modem, re installing the Ethernet driver and anything I can think of.

The odd thing is that my brother used Ethernet connection just fine with his desktop about three weeks ago, with same router and same cable. So I am assuming that my computer is the one with the problem but I can't figure it out why.

I'm going to try out the different cable tomorrow, but I highly doubt it will fix my problem.

Help me guys. If you need any other information, ask away. I will give it to you as much as I can

Attachment file is my network and sharing center status unidentified network is my ethernet connection

Answer:Wireless works fine, Ethernet doesn't

Odds are that the NIC has failed.

Another low possibility (in addition to cable and router LAN port) are the PC's firewall or security suite misconfigured or corrupted.

Another thing to try: in Device Manager right click on the ethernet - Properties - Advanced tab - for the 'Speed & Duplex' property try different values beginning with '100 Mbps full duplex' and '10 Mbps full duplex.'

I have an Ideapad U330 that will not get online using ethernet in windows. Before you ask, no it isnt my router. When I use an Ubuntu bootable disk, the ethernet works fine and I can surf the web without issue. I reformatted and installed windows 7 x86 (It had windows XP previously and the ethernet didnt work there either), installed all the drivers, and updated the BIOS, the ethernet still does not work while the wireless works fine. I thought this was a hardware issue until the ethernet worked with no issue in Ubuntu.

I have searched for this problem and can't find it anywhere. Every few minutes my IBM Access Connections keeps shutting down, then restarting all by itself. I usually don't have to do anything to restart it, but once in a while it takes too long to restart, so I reconnect manually. I don't know if it makes any difference, but it didn't happen until I downloaded Google Chrome. I've installed Service Pack 3, but no change. And while I'm at it, my laptop will no longer restart when I click "restart". It just powers off. Recently I performed a reinstallation of windows on my laptop. Normally I had no problems with the wireless, but after the reinstallation my laptop refuses to acknowledge that there are wireless networks. When I'm not connected to the internet, it asks to connect using a wire connection only.

I have a Dell Inspiron iM101z running Windows 7 Home Premium, and I downloaded all the drivers for what the Dell website told me my laptop model was, a Dell Inspiron 1121. Attached is a picture showing the oddities of my problem. The icon on the taskbar shows that I have to connect with an ethernet cord; no wireless icon is shown.

If I try to unplug the ethernet cable and connect to the internet, I only get the option to do a broadband connection. Also, once I unplug the cable, I get "no connections available."

Answer:Laptop refuses to detect anything wireless, ethernet works fine

Most likely this is still a driver problem.

Hi, I've developed a big problem. I've got exams coming up and I reallllly need an internet connection at home. I recently updated my zonealarm and then my pc now doesn't connect to the internet.

- Before upgrade it was fine, afterwards I get "limited or no connectivity". I have a netgear router and my LAN ip is normally 192.168.0.x
- Now, the LAN IP is something drastically different (e.g. 169.254.xx.xx) PLUS my Subnet Mask is 255.255.0.0 as opposed to 255.255.255.0
- Cannot connect to the internet (can't acquire the WAN IP when I use IP2 either)

- I've not uninstalled zonealarm and it still can't acquire a proper IP address (when i click repair, it can't renew ip)
- I've tried resetting the router and doesn't work

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASEEEE HELP!!
THANKS,
Dom

Hi everybody. This is just a public service message regarding an issue I've encountered. I've found that my Yoga 900 does not "wake up" after it has gone to sleep while connected to an external monitor. I'm connected to an HP 27VX monitor through a USB Type C to HDMI adapter. I found that my Yoga wakes up without issue if the display has turned off (power options turn off display settings) but it doesn't wake up if it goes to sleep when connected to the monitor. The issue though is not that it doesn't wake up, the issue is that for some reason when connected to the monitor it never truly goes to sleep (slow blinking white light). I think it gets hung up somehow when trying to go to sleep. When it enters this mode the power light is solid white and the only fix is to power cycle the Yoga. I'm not sure why it won't successfully go to sleep when connected to a monitor but my guess is some type of driver/hardware issue between the USB type C, HDMI adapter, and the monitor. I've verified that all works as intened when I'm not connected to the monitor. My workaround is to go to power options and turn my sleep option (when plugged in) to "Never". Not a solution by any means, just a workaround until all players involved (Lenovo, HP) figure out how to work with the new USB Type C port. Hope this helps. Rob

It sounds like you may not be able to send emails because you are outside the company network. Are you connecting via VPN client? If not, that is probably why it isn't working. Have you asked your work IT if they have any suggestions?

Basically the problem is that, the touchscreen function and stylus input become unstable when the notebook is connected to external monitor via miniDP or HDMI. I've done every thing possible and this is last things I'm doing to fix this.I own Acer Aspire R7 572G.I use it usually for school. so i use Microsoft OneNote a lot.The notebook comes with stylus, and also touch screen. It does not have a discrete GPU so it uses the built-in  Intel HD Graphics 4400.Every and all the drivers including windows update are up to date, (certain).Running windows 8.1 pro.Everything thing works fineexcept when i connect the notebook to my DELL 2713hm via DisplayPort,Touch screen and stylus don't working well, and when i try to write using stylus on OneNote, it does not ignore touch like it usually do when writing with stylus. I usually completely disable touch in the Device manager so only the stylus works, but when connected to the external monitor, touch screen still registers touch even if  it's disabled.Things that i did to diagnose this (while connected to the external monitor in extended desktop mode);- Disabled touch completely in device manager, touch screen still registers touch in a very buggy(stuttering way)-Disabled only the stylus in device manager; Touch screen works fine and is fully functioning and no problem what so ever. and the stylus don't work ofcaurse. -Tried to calibrate touch screen, identify the notebook screen as my touchscreen, tried to switc... WiFi worked great yesterday morning. Had upgraded to Windows 10. Still worked. Came in to use it last night and although the WiFi indicated light is on, Windows insists that I need to turn it on. Thought perhaps the problem was the upgrade. Now I am back to Windows 7 after using the HP Recovery. I performed the hard reset as instructed by HP Support. Windows Mobility Center shows radio is OFF but does not allow me to turn it on.  I have tried the F12 recommendation and the Ctrl F2 recommendation but nothing makes a difference. Network and Sharing show that the adapter is receiving signal when I go to change adapter. But not able to show any available connections. I uninstalled the driver and reinstalled the driver but that doesn;t change things.  I eat, sleep, and breathe computers and can usually fix most any problem but this has me over the barrel.  I have been repairing and building computers for more than 30 years. With my luck, this is just one of those Senior moments.

I have been using a laptop to stream videos through my xbox for over 2years until recently. I setup a wireless network in the house to do this. All was fine until 3 days ago.
I use a Dell Inspiron 1545 with Windows 7. I have a Dell Wireless 1397 Minicard, a cisco router (model #2425). Since my laptop was infected by Malware, my network has not worked since. I downloaded Malwarebytes Anti Malware to get rid of it and it appeared to work. I got internet access back. However, I still cannot connect to my network (visible in the Available Network list as normal) or stream any media.
Windows Media Centre also has stopped opening and gives me the small box saying 'windows is checking for a solution', then closes with nothing. I can however open WMC if I right click and 'run as administrator'?!
I have disabled all other network adaptors, only the Dell minicad is enabled and also tried disabling and enabling this main one with no effect. All problems point to the fact that my laptop can no longer connect to the home network but I cant figure out why?!
Another (possibly unrelated) problem is occuring at boot up where I get an error message saying 'Bluetooth Software License not found. [2]' - Again this never happened before the Malware infection.

I had to manually remove Antivirus 2008 which I think is gone. I removed my filter program Net Nanny in which part of their program was called Contentwatch. Now I continually get boxes coming up saying Contentwatch installation error. I also lost my internet connection. The way they keep popping up I can't tell if they are legit or another type of trojan? Most of the fixes I've seen require internet access. Is there something I can check or print for you to help me?

Answer:got rid of antivirus, now can't get rid of contentwatch installation errors or connec

Hi,

I have a VU smart TV model number H40K311. I am trying to connect my laptop (OS: windows 10) over wifi but not able to do so. It would be great if anyone can help.

Answer:Not able to connec VU smart TV with my laptop (Windows 10) over wifi

Have you checked the TV manufacturers website to make sure that it can connect to your laptop? Not all TVs can connect to all devices via WiFi. There may also be something you need to install on the device to allow it connect to the TV.

First step, check the TV manufacturers website for connection instructions.

Answer:I can not connec t my mobile phone's sd card storage to my l...

@ShafExplores I had the same problem after Upgrading to Win10 -- and the problem is most likely due to the lack of the proper USB drivers for your mobile phone, as Win10 is not automatically going to install those, and if you had them in an earlier OS, they did not get carried over. What you need to do is hunt down a support website for the manufacturer of your mobile phone, go to that site, and it they have it, download and install their USB Mobile drivers for Win10. I have a Samsung  phone and after I installed their drivers, I was able to then see the phone contents.Good Luck

Hello,I have a WRT54G Linksys router and when I am on my computer and only MY computer, the connection constantly goes from "Acquiring network address" to "Not Connected" and repeats over and over, almost like its connecting but my computer is instantly dropping it again. It does this everyday and the only way to fix it which is only temporarily, is to push the tiny reset button in the back of the wireless router about 5 to 10 times... Even when I do this it will still only stay on for about 5 hours until I have to do it again... The other thing is that the wireless works perfectly fine for our Mac that is downstairs and PS3 as well. So it has to do with something about my computer. What I don't understand is why it starts working again when I reset the router? Does it have something to do with refreshing the ip?

Answer:Linksys acquiring network address but never connec

I also forgot to mention that this happens, as I figured out today, because the security setting is on WPA.. but when I put it to 'Disable' for security I can connect.. but no security or 'disabled' is so unreliable and slow cause of people connecting to my network since I live in a big neighborhood.

My PC with windows 7 is the only computer with issues in the house. Ethernet works perfectly but wifi doesn't even when I don't have the ethernet hooked up. The wifi says it is connected but browsers, steam, and Itunes don't work. I have Bitdefender A/V and already tried uninstalling it, no change. I also uninstalled steam and Itunes with still no change. I even uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers for the wireless adapter. I tried looking and I don't recall downloading or installing anything around the time the problem started. Before I try replacing the adapter itself, I was hoping for help here since I saw a very similar problem in another thread.

Hi guys,
Thanks in advance. Your help is much appreciated.

(XP SP2)

I have 2 problems, one recent and one that's been around for about a year.

1) For the last two weeks, every time I go into regedt32.exe I get this error message:

regedt32.exe - Illegal System DLL relocation

The system DLL user32.dll was relocated in memory. The application will not run properly. The relocation occurred because the DLL C:\WINDOWS\System32\SHELL32.dll occupied an address range reserved for windows system dlls.

I have never gone into the registry before, I had recently installed and ran RegistryMechanic http://www.pctools.com/registry-mechanic/. I also get the same message when I tried to run Bigfish games the Price Is Right Demo. Except regedt32.exe is replaced by priceisright.exe. Everything other program seems to work fine since then. I have no real need to go into the registry as I am not familiar enough to do anything. I just want to fix whatever is wrong.
2)My second issue is IE7and some other random programs. I never use IE7 because it will never connect. But I want to run a sports ticker from my desktop (ESPN bottomline) and it can't connect either. If I need to update a program it seldom connects. Navigator works perfect. I can download from there at my full speed. I also use uTorrent and it is full speed any time I use it. There is no pattern for which programs connect and don't connect, but if it connects the first time, it always connects. If it doesn't ... Read more

Answer:Solved: regedt32.exe - Illegal System DLL Relocation / IE7 etc can't establish connec

I just created a new user account and it seemed to work fine. I'll mark this as solved. Thanks.

I have a small form factor PC (acer veriton VX4630g) and I'm wondering if it's possible to use this as a gaming machine? I could transfer the motherboard to a bigger case so I could use a full size GTX 970 video card, but
I would have to replace the small 220 watt psu that comes with the pc. The problem is that the mb only has a 12 a pin connection. I can purchase an adapter to go from a 24 pin psu to the 12 pin on the mb, but is this advisable? I don't want to burn up the motherboard by connecting a 600 watt psu through an adapter to a mb not meant for it. The only thing I would be doing is swapping out the GTX 8400 1gb video card with a GTX 970 4gb video card.
I have an empty medium computer case, a 600 watt psu, and the gtx 970 video card. My only additional cost would be the 24 pin to 12 pin input adapter, so my interest is doing this on the cheap. Thanks

Proper power cycling equipment

change DNS servers to OpenDNS or Google's DNS
Repair connection through Windows
Disable/Re-enable adapter

is there some issues in the area that we are not aware of? being that the signal levels are within range what do you think the problem resides in? FYI, both connections, the wired and wireless connections both have connectivity issues equally.

Hi, I'm a forum virgin so please be gentle with me.

I have a desktop and laptop sharing files and an internet connection via modem to D-Link router setup.

My laptop connects to the network via a Netgear PCMCIA wireless card when mobile and via an ethernet cable when sitting on the desk.

The wireless connection does everything it's supposed to do (network and internet access and sharing).

The ethernet connection only shares files but can not get an internet connection to be established.

I have Norton Internet Security but I think everything's alright with that otherwise I wouldn't be able to connect wirelessly. Correct? Are there different IP setup's for wireless/ethernet.

Why can I 'see' my desktop's files and share the printer via ethernet but I can't establish an internet connection unless I go wireless?

Everything's fine with the desktop.

Sorry for the ramble and thanks in anticipation.

Dell Latitude D520 running Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3. Everything about this laptop works fine except for its wireless ethernet. Even the wireless ethernet works fine when accessing the internet and when downloading files; but, when accessing the LAN, I get 'access denied' sometimes and other times I get sl-o-o-o-o-w transfers of files and messages telling me the files I'm copying or running are corrupt.

Example: I attempted to copy a file across my LAN to this laptop. On the WiFi, it copied very slowly for about 10 minutes or so and finally aborted when the bar graph showed about 20% complete. On the wired ethernet, the same file copied successfully in about 12 seconds.

I've checked the settings for the wired and wireless NIC and I can't find any differences.

To be clear, the wired LAN does fine for both internet and LAN access. The wireless ethernet works fine for the internet and presents the problem only when accessing the LAN.

Answer:Solved: Wireless works fine for internet but not for LAN

"when accessing the lan" ???

do you have multiple machines on a lan that you are trying to transfer files from???

If yes are they all on the same workgroup????

I just got a brand new computer with wireless capabilities. After some configuring, i am connected to my home network, but i cant connect to the internet that is set up on the host computer. i have already checked all the settings on my computer, disabled the firewall (because i have windows xp sp2), and reset the router twice. i am just wondering what else could be the problem. could the local area connection have something to do with it? please help.

Answer:Wireless Network Works Fine, But Cant Get On Internet

How did you attempt to hook up so far? Did you try this:

start > control panel > network connections > wireless network setup wizard
~~~~~~
Or this on the host computer:
start > control panel . network connections > setup or change your work or home network setup
Run the wizard, choose "This computer connects directly to the internet. The other computers on my network connect to the internet through this computer"
~~~~~~~~

Wait a minute. Upon rereading your original post, I need to know what you are using a router for. Is it a wireless router? If so, then your new computer is not connecting to the internet through the 'host' computer, but rather through the router.

I shall await your answers.

I just had a quick question. I have a wireless N adapter on my PC and I have never had any trouble. I switched ISP's and they brought out a new router and now my network always says 'identifying', and will only say 'connected' every 5 minutes or so, and will only stay connected for maybe 2 seconds tops. What I find weird is even when the network says it's identifying the internet works just fine, 25ms ping on speedtest. Signal strength is 4 out of 5 bars. I'm not too concerned since everything works just fine, but I was wondering if anyone knows what is up with this new phenomenon.

Answer:Wireless always 'identifying' but internet works fine??

Uninstall network adapter, reinstall adapter.

Then reinstall drivers

Reset the ip stack after you do that

netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt in elevated cmd prompt

Looking for some help here as I'm stuck.
3 year old Toshiba laptop (Satellite P100). Ethernet and wireless both worked fine with XP. Since upgrading to Windows 7, my wireless is fine, but I can't connect to the internet via Ethernet. Other computers in the house are connected to my router (linksys WRT54GL) and work fine. I've set up an IP address manually (like I have on the other computers) with no luck. Automatically setting it will not work either. I'm using just TCP/IPv4 (v6 is unchecked, older router doesn;t support it). I've played with just about everything I can think of and still no luck.
The strange thing is that when I try to load a website, the data seems to trickle in for a second. For example, going to google.com, it will look like its loading, but nothing will come up. Then just the text will come up after maybe 20 seconds, but the logo (ie graphics) will not. It will just hang there and time out. Any normal webpage I visit will just sit on a blank screen then Firefox will report it's "done" at the bottom, but nothing will be displayed.

I also cannot log-on to my router, same problem, it will not load the web interface page, and will just time-out.

Under the "Network and Sharing" center everything appears to be fine. It will say I am connected to my network, and the diagnostics will not find anything wrong. Still, no internet.
Tried bypassing the router and plugging directly into the cable modem, and this do... Read more

I hooked up a brother MFC-790CW fax/scan/printer to my wireless/wired belkin router. I have a desktop that is hardwired to the router and it can access the MFC-790 with no problems and in several different configurations. BUT, the laptop just won't talk to it. WHY? The laptop has no trouble connecting to the router and accessing the internet. I have installed all of the MFC-790 software. The laptop successfully pings each entitiy on my network. So, I'm stumped. The laptop has a Marvel Yukon wireless adapter. Maybe there are some issues there. I don't know. My laptop is using Windows XP. Do I need to upgrade it to Vista or windows 7? I thought that maybe I needed a print server or a residential gateway, but the guys at the geek squad said "no, it should work". I have since found that the MFC-790 has a printer server in it. So that is not the problem. I suspect that the laptop would access the printer just fine if I wired it to the router. So I think that the wireless aspect of this puzzle is where I need to focus. But I can't see why the laptop can access the internet wirelessly through the router but not the printer. Would love any input on this. Thanks.

My desktop (windows 7 ultimate 64bit) has been able to connect fine to the internet until I got home from work this morning. My laptop is connecting to the same modem fine through wireless (along with my wii). The modem I am using is Motorola SB 901. When I rightclick my connection on my desktop and hit troubleshoot problems, I get 'local area connection 2 doesn't have a valid ip configuration'. Same thing happens when I switch the ethernet cord to local area connection 1. When I go to control panel, network and internet, network and sharing, the connection map at the top stops between my pc and the network (which is now labeled as 'unidentified network').

Here is a list of what I have done so far to try and resolve the issue:

1. Replaced the ethernet cord with one I know is working
2. Full scanned my pc for viruses
3. Disabled all firewalls and virus protection programs
4. Restored my pc to a previous save state
5. Reset winsock with cmd via these prompts: netsh winsock reset catalog and netsh int ip reset reset.log hit
6. This attempt is unfinished as I am getting stuck. I am attempting to setup a static ip to attempt to resolve the issue, but when I open cmd and type ipconfig/all, the default gateway under my local area connection is completely blank.

Hello, I am new here. I have an HP Pavilion entertainment laptop. Everything was functioning just fine. Then, windows update happened. It was a critical update that cannot be undone. I performed the update. Immediately after all of the preinstaled HP software quit working. I fought and fought and I have most of it working again but all of it is very buggy and crashes a lot. HP Help and support and HP health no longer work. I had to install the vista versions and I run them in compatibility mode. They still don't work rite. Another critical update was released and then my internet port on the side stopped working. My laptop cannot connect to the internet through it but will via wireless. In the hardware manager my internet card shows up as the driver failing to load. It is Realtek PCB family controller. Uninstalls and re installs don't work. I even used a registry cleaner (registry first aid) to uninstall it so as to remove all the registry keys. Letting windows try to install the driver fails as does letting the realtek software try. Also, every reinstall just adds a number to the end of it. I am on Realtek (3) now. I need to get this driver to work but it will not. I am not seeing a whole lot about it so I guess this isn't a common problem. Everything else I have works fine so far as I can tell. I also tried using the file browser to hunt down all things realtek related and delete them. Windows just gives me the new hardware box, puts back what I del... Read more

Firstly: Hello sevenforums!

It seems there are many others with this problem, but none of the solutions seem to work for me, yet.

I have a Motorola sb 5101 cable modem connected to a nameless 10/100mbps Ethernet switch, and then a PC connected with an ethernet cable to the switch and an Apple Airport express station also connected to the switch.

The PC can access the modem homepage at 192.168.100.1, but no internet.
An apple laptop connected with wireless to the airport can connect to the internet just fine (although a bit slow). Disconnecting the airport's ethernet connection and connecting it directly to the Apple laptop displays the same symptoms as the ethernet connected PC (No internet, Modem home page accessable).
Apple laptop connected directly to Modem cannot connect to modem home page or internet. (PC can't reach a direct connection )

The PC has auto IP and DNS turned on (DHCP)

Here is the PC's ipconfig/all dump:

Hi,

I am having a problem where I am unable to connect to the net by ethernet cable but my wireless works. When I tried to repair my 1394 net adapter it says that it cannot be repaired because TCP/IP is not enabled -- it is however checked in the properties.

I have tried the following:
1) Turning the model on/off
2) ipconfig release...renew
3) Checked for viruses/spyware etc.
4) Uninstalled and reinstalled 1394
5) System restore from when it was working (a few days ago)
6) Winsock fix

None of these options has resolved the problem. Any ideas???? Thanks!

Hi foristas and tech support,

I am having a problem that I see others have had after a PC system recovery on an XP computer. My HP desktop was running crazy slow, so I ran the PC Recovery Tool to do a clean re-installation of Windows XP. I updated from SP1 to SP2 and then to SP3 following the instructions on the HP and Microsoft sites. I also reinstalled the wireless adapter (before updating to SP3 I believe) and the computer connects to my home network fine. Now I am trying to connect to my work WIFI network, but even though I enter the network key, it won't stop "acquiring network address".

Last week or so, we had a storm, and devices got unplugged. Internet service was out briefly. Wireless internet came back shortly after, but my desktop and our PS4 both can't connect to the internet via ethernet, and I can't figure out why. I've done the usual stuff: power cycle, tried out other ethernet cords, etc. Comcast has said that it's not on their end, and our wireless signal is fine, so we're clearly getting signal through the modem and out through the router. My desktop is plugged into a different modem, but also won't connect to the one attached to the router. A hard reset of the modem didn't help, whether through the button or through the configuration settings. My desktop is claiming that there's no ethernet cable plugged in, though there definitely is. I'd suspect a broken port if the PS4 weren't having the same issue. I've tried a few things on the desktop, including installing the most recent drivers for the network adapter, rolling back the driver, disabling/renabling, and just deleting it and let it reinstall one on restart, and trying to reset the IP stack. I'm posting links to screenshots of some of the command prompt commands I've tried, and the results. They vary a little bit, I've gone into the registry to enable some permissions after access was denied. Any ideas you can send my way are greatly appreciated.

Hello,

Yesterday, my internet through wireless stopped working all of a sudden. It was working good till I closed my pc and went out for a few hours. When I returned and tried to access, it simply does not connect. I get an error saying "Windows was unable to connect to abcd (router name)". I tried to plug it into the router through ethernet and it works perfectly.

I have tried to uninstall the wireless adapter and the lan adapter as well. I have tried it in safe mode. I have tried to delete the network also but now that left me with inputting the password everytime I want to connect.

I am living in a student accomodation with 6 more people and all of them's is working good. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate Edition on Dell Studio 1555. The router is a Netgear one for the Virgin Media Superhub.

Thanks a lot

I've got a Dell Vostro 1500 notebook running Windows XP SP3 without any major problems. I access the internet using A modem connected to the router for wireless access.

I've recently procured a 100 metre ethernet cable and decided to make use of it, but discovered that I couldn't connect to the internet while I was connected to the router (similar results with connecting directly to the modem itself). I've connected other Laptops to it, and seems to work perfectly, which indicates it's the computer.

What I've tried till now
Opened Device manager and checked if the network adapter was active. It wasn't for some reason, but i've just enabled it and it says that i'm connected but without any result.

I'm not entirely sure what the problem is!

Hoping someone on here can help!

Hi
I had posted earlier also in this forum and d prblm got solved as it was a driver issue. Now again i have got a similar prblm but is not a driver issue. I have a P7H55 Asus Motherboard with the ethernet port and cable working fine individually. However, when i connect them together, the ethernet light on the router remains stable as if connected but still the desktop shows not connected. This time i have installed the drivers which came from the motherboard manufacturer and are the latest. In the Network and Sharing Center, the icon is enabled. It does not show cross sign. Please help me out.

I have recently bought a router, the Fritz.Box Home Server 1&1 VDSL. I have set it up via wifi and can connect to the internet without a problem.
However, I would like to connect my PC to the router via LAN.
When I put the LAN cable into my PC and the router, both my PC and my router react and tell me there is a connection but they do not recognize each other. The router says there is something in LAN1 and the PC says there is a LAN cable without a connection. I cannot access the router via LAN, only via wifi.
My PC uses the Killer Network 2200e driver, I tried removing it and then manually adding it again, it did not work. My IPv4 settings seem fine, too, I have no idea what to do now.

Answer:Ethernet won't connect to router, wifi works fine

and welcome to the Forum

Lets take a peek at your network environment:

First:

Power Cycle everything . . Turn off the Modem, router and all pc's . . turn on the Modem and wait a few minutes for the lights to stabilize . . then turn on the router, then one pc at a time. See if you connect to the internet.

Then: check your browser's settings, remove any proxy settings if found, here's how

Then:

with the pc connected to the router, Click on Start . . Run . . type CMD

At the > prompt type or copy and paste the following command:

ipconfig/all > 0 & notepad 0

and press enter.

Come back here and Paste the results in a message.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB drive, or a CD-R disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Earlier my desktop was to b in d same place where the router was der. Everything worked fine. Now I decided to shift my desktop to another room. I have kept the router at the earlier place only. I have brought a 25m long new cat 5 cable. When I connected it to my desktop, the orange led on ethernet port do not light up and the desktop is unable to detect the ethernet cable and hence the internet connection. On the router, a light of ethernet keeps on blinking every 1 second. I was worried whether my ethernet port got fried. So i inserted another ethernet cable, but then the ethernet orange light came and the pc detedted the connection. Therefore I thought the cable might be faulty. Therefore I connected my laptop with that 25m cable. But my laptop detected it and showed the internet connection. But now when i again connect the cable to my desktop, there's no light and the pc does not detect it. However, if i connect the 25m cable to my desktop then during boot the ethernet light on router is stable just as when it is normally connected to the internet. But when i go into windows it starts blinking every 1 second.

My router is MTNL Model No. UT-304R2
Desktop - Asus P7H55, core i5
Laptop- HP 2000
Windows 7 Ultimate on both desktop and laptop.

So here is my story. A couple days ago I awoke to having no internet access over any devices connected through Ethernet or Wifi. My first thought was it was just a fluke and to power cycle my router and modem. After doing so I still got nothing. Called up my ISP thinking that the internet might be down due to a winter storm we had that night. They said that it wasn't. They sent signals to my modem and everything appeared to be working properly.

My equipment then:

Arris SB6141
Asus RT-AC3200

So I decided to make a run to Best Buy (not my first choice but convenient) to pick up a new cable modem. Purchased a Arris SB6190. Got it home, called up ISP (Spectrum) and had them provision it. Everything went smooth. Well now I was getting internet but only over WiFi. So now I'm thinking that my router bit the dust. Took another trip to Best Buy and purchased a Linksys EA9500 router. Got home, hooked it all up, same exact thing. Wifi works but everything connected through Ethernet has no connection.

Hi

I have a ZyXEL 600 wireless router - it has worked without issues for years.

However yesterday evening my wireless router suddenly stopped broadcasting a signal.

2 different PC's and a wifi dongle attached to our TV were suddenly all unable to find my network.

The WLAN light on the router was still lit up. I connected my Acer Aspire 5742Z laptop to the router via an ethernet cable and it worked fine. I connected to the router and it said there were no errors.

I phoned ZyXEL support this morning and they dialled in, confirmed the router was reporting it was working. They installed inSSIDer on my PC and verified no signal was being picked up - but other local wireless networks were being picked up.

They suggested buying another modem as it was very old and could have just reached the end of its life.

So I bought a brand new Sitecom 300N x2 modem this morning, connected it up and have the exact same problem. All the right lights are on the modem (solid WLAN, DSL and Internet lights), I can connect via an ethernet cable but none of my devices can find a the wireless browser (but can find other networks and connect to them).

I've spent hours on the phone today to various tech people and gone through channel switching, changing encryption etc but nothing has worked. The router is sat in the same place it has been for the last 3 years and the laptop is inches from it but still no joy.

As far as I can see I've ruled out:

I have a Win 7 system. Everything was working, until a few days ago, and then the Ethernet connection stopped. The activity LEDs work, but the Ethernet will not connect. The Wifi works fine through the same router as the Ethernet is plugged into.

Here is what I did so far.Rebooted PC (full power cycle)
Rebooted router
MSCONFIG to disable all unknown services and apps
Replaced Ethernet cable
Tried a different port
Confirmed Ethernet driver is latest version
Deleted Ethernet driver anyway and reinstalled
Reset IP Stack
Set TCP/IPv4 to static IP and defined the DNS server
Confirmed the adapter's advanced settings were correct
Connected to a USB Ethernet adapter that I know works (and has worked before on this PC)

Nothing I did in the above list worked - Ethernet does not connect. The activity LEDs are working. The Network Connections shows a plugged-in Ethernet as an Unidentified Network.

Hi,
I will try to explain my problem that I have although I am a novice...
I have a Toshiba laptop, 32bit Vista Home Premium.
I have had an internet connection through modem for a while, everything is good. Now I bought a Linksys WRT54G router, to be able to use the laptop with wireless. Did the setup, all was good, then suddenly no more connection.
Tried to reset the modem, the router and restart the laptop, got a connection again, but it went after 5-10 minutes, just simply stopped working. I still am connected, but it says "local only" and once "limited connectivity".
When I then connect the laptop directly to the modem with a cable, I have internet.
So the router seems fine, modem obviously, too.
What could be the problem that it always says "local only" all of a sudden, although I know there is internet???
Thanks for your help.

Answer:Ethernet connection works, Wireless does not. Wireless works for other devices.

Depending on the computer, there are two things I'd suggest you check on:

1.  Some computers (like my told Toshiba), has a slide switch on it, that physically turns off the Wi-Fi.
2.  My newer computer has a key combo that does that.  In this case Fn+F12.

Best of luck.

For the past 3 days I've not been able to sustain an ethernet connection from my laptop. I've had a tech out from my ISP to check the router and it's fine. So with everything updated and working properly, my connection keeps dropping in and out. Wireless works just fine though. I'm thinking it could be a software problem but I'm darned if I can figure out where. Please find my system info as requested below.

Please show the following for a good connection and for when the connection has dropped ...

Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

This morning I turned on my computer to notice that it was missing several drivers, including graphics, keyboard and USB controller. I have since fixed all of this yet my Ethernet connection will not show on available networks (I have no WiFi card in my desktop). I ran an ipconfig and attatches the results. The modem is fine, and the cable works in my laptop without fault. When plugged into the desktop it flashes green but no connection available

Hi, I am using the Actiontec MI-424WR or MI424WR router that I am provided by verizon. My service provides 15 Mbps down 2 Mbps up. When I first got the service earlier this month tests done at speakeasy showed 15/1.7 which was normal. The past week or so, my connection has deteriorated to being now about 300-700k/1.7. I still get full upload speed, but I don't get anywhere near the download speed I should be getting. My mother's computer which is on a wireless connection gets 10 mbps which is good for wireless. I have also put a wireless card in my laptop which gets 10 mbps also. I still can figure out though why a wired connection would have issues. I tried searching all the help forums, but I cant find an answer. I am not sure whether its my laptop's ethernet port or the router's ethernet, I have checked all 4 ports on the router.

thanks
chris

Hi there,

Not sure if this should be a networking or a operating system question, I guess it's a little of both.

Here's what's happening. I have a cable modem going to a wireless router. My PC(1) is plugged by wire into the router; another pc(2) and Mac Powerbook running wireless. Everything was running great until roommate was using PC1 a couple days ago. Now PC1 will not connect to anything but PC2 and laptop run fast and fine on wireless. I have cleaned with SpyBot and Ad-Aware, as well as Avg in Safe Mode and nothing comes up (usually that's all I have to do to fix it). I checked winipcfg and my network adapter is there with an ip address but if i release, it will not find another ip to renew. Also tried to restore to a couple days ago, no dice.

Here's where it get's weird. If I click just about any folder (my computer, my documents, my network), I get a fatel errod saying that Explorer has made a fatel error and will shut down. I click okay and it just goes back to the desktop, but doesn't shut down.

Roommate talked to ISP tech support (before i knew about the issue) and they were no help aside form wanting to send someone out, which i know is a waste of time since the connection to the modme is fine and that's all they will touch.

Anybody have any ideas? Computer with issue is running Win 98SE (I know I know...it sucks but i never use it anymore...that's why rommmate was using it. haha).

Having issues with one of my PCs in my Home Network. I run DSL/Wireless Router and all my wireless devices run good but my ethernet connection on my Main PC's has issues. Hard to explain but it seems to work fine after booting machine but after a short while of surfing, it loses speed. It doesn't lose connection, just speed. Have done multiple speed tests and the same bad results. I have tested my laptop on the ethernet connection and seems to work fine. Replaced the PCI ethernet adapter in the machine and did not fix the problem. Tried all ports on the router, same results. Any assistance would be great!

Hey everyone -

I can follow directions and am fairly tech-savvy, just don't have the time to troubleshoot this stuff and run my business. Here's the rundown:

Router: Cisco Linksys E1000 V2
-working fine until I unplugged to move it and plugged it in
-verified with tech support the problem is not physical
-right now, am hardwired to the router, which is hardwired to the cable modem, and connectivity is fine through hardwiring

-no luck through wireless - this is the error message I get:

This webpage is not available:
The server at www.google.com can't be found, because the DNS lookup failed. DNS is the network service that translates a website's name to its Internet address. This error is most often caused by having no connection to the Internet or a misconfigured network. It can also be caused by an unresponsive DNS server or a firewall preventing Google Chrome from accessing the network.

How do I fix this - I suppose it's some simple setting somewhere, just don't know where to go to or what to change. Thanks in advance for your help!

Dan

Hey Guys,
I have a Linksys WAP54g v.2 Wireless access point.
It connects fine, my internet works, i can see my network across it but I can't log into it to configure it. I have lost the set up disk but I thought you could just goto the IP address and set it up directly??
When I type in the IP address I belive it to be it just gives me the old 'page cannot be diplayed' error.
You may ask why I am playing around if it all works, well when I first set it up I didn't secure it (yes my head is looking down in shame) and I'm just trying to secure the signal.

Any idea's would be most handy!

Mucho thanks

I dont remember this much trouble before.

I have been connected via wireless due to i needed the lan for another comp.

It has been hooked up to lan before.

The other comp isn't using the lan so i went to plug in my old vista.

Now it wont get on the internet.

It can see the other computers connected but it can't network to them....it can just see them.

The lan is enabled. But it says limited access if that means anything.

In order to use the internet i must use my wireless.

My Vista has never failed to fail yet

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Answer:Here is a new one wireless works fine will lan wont connect

you got teamviewer? I have an idea but I dont know how to explain it
