I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,

My keyboard is typing letters and numbers when pushing letter keys. I've made sure im on the right mode. You know FN -11 / FN -10. I have a Satellite L300D-11V running Windows vista home premium. Can anyone help?

I have also tried holding down both shift keys for 20seconds and both shift and the alt key for 20secs, but no change. Sticky keys are not on and the keyboard language is set to united kingdom.

Any help would be great,

Thanks.

HiA group of keys in one area of my laptop have all of a sudden started typing numbers instead of their correct letters. Laptop is only 6 months old and all other keys work fine. I have shut down and restarted but just the same.Any ideas how to fix this? Thanks

Answer:Some letter keys on laptop typing numbers

Make/model of laptop - and, what group of keys? I am only guessing, but perhaps there is a way of using a certain group of keys as a Number Pad on your laptop if it does not already have a Number Pad on the keyboard.

Hello, Need a little bit of assistance with my Lenovo laptop! The number keys (and that whole row of keys), as well as some other keys such as the arrow keys, don't appear to be functioning properly. Instead of typing numbers, they either perform an action such as close the window I'm on, or will type random letters/numbers/symbols. eg the number key "6" types out "hy6j7n". All the keys in that row, uncluding the backspace key do not function properly. What's interesting is that the same buttons fail to work in the BIOS too. I tried downloading the latest BIOS update, but when running the update, it seems to think my AC Adapter is not connected, when it's actually running from it! A USB keyboard appears to work but can't figure out what else I can try.The computer was previously Czech (Windows 7's system language) but have changed everything to UK including adding the English language and changing region/keyboard/etc.I can't figure this out and its driving me crazy! Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

Answer:Lenovo 3000 N200 Keyboard Keys Not Functioning Correctly...

Still haven't managed to fix this, not sure where else to ask apart from here incase it's a specific laptop issue. If I can't fix this somehow then the N200 is going in the bin as its pointless if the keyboard doesn't actually function properly.

Hi all, I also have the problem of having some keys on the keyboard that are not functioning any more (for example Backspace, t, left Shift, ...).  Computer is a Lenovo 3000 N100 notebook and roughly 1.5 years old. Now I am not sure whether a change of the keyboard will solve the issue or whether the problem is caused by something on the mainboard. My question is: Has anyone experience in this issue and has a clue about the root cause? It seems that I am not alone with this problem. I don't want to invest in a keyboard if the root cause is something else. I already disassembled and assembled the keyboard to check the mechanical connection between the keyboard and the mainboard. Effect: none. Thank you for your advice. Axel

My HP Pavilion dv4-1123US has suddenly started typing every keystroke twice.  I get double letters for everything typed.  This is happening for every key, letters, numbers, backspace, cap lock.  PPAASSWWOORRDD.  Etc.  I am forced to use a virtual keyboard that came with Kaspersky Internet Security. I tried uninstalling the device driver for the keyboard in Device manager and letting Windows reinstall it during reboot.  This did not work. I running Windows 7 64-bit. Anyone else having this issue?  How can I fix it.

Answer:Suddenly my keyboard is typing every letter twice

This might be with the keyboard settings. Click Start, Control Panel and open Keyboard Properties. Try to change the Repeat Delay and Repeat Rate settings which should solve your issue.

Hi. I recently bought a Toshiba Satellite C660D, Windows 7. Lately, my keyboard has been typing more than one letter when I press certain keys. I haven't installed or downloaded anythiing that could a have caused thuis, I did a virus scan and nothing came up (I use ESET security). My arrow keys are having problems too. I use them to scroll the page when I'm not using my mouse, and sometimes the up and across keys won't scroll up and across if I've been using the down key. I'll try to scroll up, but it will just keep going down.

y78 - y (this comes up when I press the 7 and 8 key too)
ui - u and i keys
hk - h and k keys
j, - j and , keys

Y&* - holding in shift and pressing any of those keys

This problem has gotten really annoying, and I'd like to know what the problem is.
Thank you.

I got a new z50-70 core i7 running win 8.1, 8gb ram, 15'' screen. Since I opened the box and turned it on for the first time, I keep getting this issue: sometimes, when I hit one key in the keyboard (normaly the "A", but it has happened to other keys, E, O, M...) it types it twice. For instance, hit the A, got AA. It is not something that happens all the time, but it happens a lot. I don't believe it is hardware related, or it wouldn't happen with every key. Also, it has nothing to do with the keyboard repeat config, as it kept happening even when I have disabled it. Since this happened the first time I opened it, I can't even return to a previous restore point. I was thinking this might be driver or virus issues. Does somebody have a clue on how to solve it?

So I've been asked to give my Mom a hand with her laptop. It's a Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13, though the website seems to drop or parenthesize the IdeaPad part of that, running a 64 bit version of Windows 8.1

Two keys aren't working, the F12/increase screen brightness key and the PrintScreen key. (This is why we just discovered it, no idea when the error cropped up.) I've found workarounds for all of the things the keys do - brightness can be adjusted in Power Options, and the F12 and PrintScreen functions can both be duplicated using the on screen keyboard function. But they're kinda annoying and cumbersome, and the error may be symptomatic of a larger problem.

I've tried rebooting the computer and cleaning the keyboard thus far, to no avail (though it is using one of these stupid new chiclet keyboard styles, which makes popping off keys and cleaning the actually functional part of the keyboard impossible through the normal, convenient method I've used in the past.)

The keyboard was replaced relatively recently, and I will be getting in touch with the gentleman who handled that when his store is open tomorrow. I'll also be checking with the official tech support people at Lenovo, but I find this and other fora are usually much better at cutting through that ploddingly systematic approach that big tech support divisions use and finding the real problem in a reasonable timeframe. If either of these resources pays off, I'll post the solution here as well.

Hello all i have been having a problem off and on with my keyboard on my asus laptop, sometimes when i press the L key i get a/ instead and when i press the o key i get yt instead of O, I don't really know what is wrong with or making it do that, it is annoying. Sometimes when I hold the shift key for a few seconds and turn on the filter keys and then turn them right back off it goes away but comes back later, has anyone else had this problem, or know what i should do to fix it? Any help would be appreciated. I am running windows 7 on the laptop and purchased it new in feb 10

Answer:keyboard not typing right keys

"purchased it new in feb 10"It should still be under warranty...sounds like you have a hardware problem and I would contact them immediately and request service on the laptop. Just make sure to save all your important docs and files before sending it away.Chances are they may reformat your drive and lose all, or they will replace the keyboard and still set it back to a factory installation.Too many people send their laptops off and lose all their valuable files not knowing ahead of time.Good LuckSome HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions Cheers

How can I restore the usual setting?I have done a system restore, switched the laptop on and off. It has not restored the usual keyboard. I have tried all the function keys. Please could someone help me with a solution to restore the keyboard's usual settings. Thanks

Answer:Keyboard typing different keys from what it normally does

This just started suddenly? No spilling of any liquid or other "abuse" of the computer? It sounds to me like the keyboard gets the wrong signals - not even enabling num lock or anything of the kind should result in such behavior - the space bar, return and back key are all pretty much the same on all keyboard-types - unless you've installed some sort of key-remapper (which is highly unlikely, given you've done a system restore) - which makes me wonder - have you run a keyboard test from the BIOS/startup diagnostic? Most likely it's a shot keyboard, given that no abuse has taken place - run the diagnostic test on the keyboard, and see what turns up.

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 which was upgraded to windows 10.
The issue i am having is that when it gets to the login, it types the letter P repeatedly in the password without anyone touching the keyboard.
At first i thought it was a keyboard issue, so i removed it.  Same problem occurs without any input devices connected, i also disconnected the touch pad and the wireless mouse.
One piece of hint to this issue is that if i press F2 to get to the bios, the problem doesn't occur. It seems to do this only after POST.
Anyone has any idea how i can fix this?

Thanks.

Chrome has the Flash Player built in. Make sure Chrome is up to date. FF requires you to update the Flash Player. Make sure you have the latest version for XP. Some people have chosen to play Flash Games with a controller rather than the keyboard.

My laptop keeps typing numbers as opposed to letters on certain keys.

I have run my antivirus programme and it is clear ? I am running Windows XP.

Any ideas as to what to do? I have checked the languages and all seems ok there. I have run my spyware and privacy guardian. All reports clear.

Basically, I am now stuck as to what else to try........

Hope someone can help.

Answer:Keyboard typing numers, not letters on certain keys

Hi,

Many laptop keyboards have a section which can be used for numeric data entry only.

These keys are normally just a block of the main QWERTY keyboard and accessed by using a Function key.

You have probably got the keyboard into this "mode"

I have a Equium L-20, just bought it and every so often it is missing characters while typing, these are random, it isn?t as if certain keys are sticking can go through and type the alphabet and every 2 or 3 times it will miss letters or characters out as if I hadn?t pressed the keys, also the space bar can miss now and again.

Would this be a keyboard fault or software, it?s kind of got me puzzled and almost to point of returning it for a replacement.
During this short post it missed 4 letters out, had to check it and fill in the blanks

Answer:Equium L-20: Keyboard random keys not typing

Hi

Well, I have read some topics about the similar issues in this forum and I think it?s not a keyboard drive problem. In my opinion it?s something wrong with the keyboard hardware or with the cable connection.
I think the best way is to contact the ASP for the detailed informations. If the warranty is valid, all replacements will be done for free.

Hello, I went through the process of cleaning my mouse while the monitor was off and I'm fairly sure I clicked something maybe I shouldn't have but after that the whole keyboard was messed up..

E shows up as ]
D shows up as ''

Esc, start, [ , n, y, I, F1-F12 keys don't register, among a few others..

Things I've tried so I don't waste anyones time.. [Windows 7]
Changed Location, Keyboard Layout (English - US) is the only language
Ctrl - Shift x1/2, Alt - Shift x1/2, and pretty much any other variant I could think of.
Plugged another keyboard in, same thing.
Plugged keyboard in another computer, works like a charm.
Restarted, plugged and unplugged. Uninstalled and tried to update driver..

Nothing worked so far, hopefully you can can make something happen.
Thanks in advance.

Dear all, I recently purchansed Lenovo Z500. It has been great but I have had some key board problems. When I browse the Internet or doing some work on Word, the keyboard doesn't let me type. Hi,

Apologies for what is probably a stupid question.
I have a Tecra A2 and run XP proffesional.
Suddenly some of the keys are typing symbols different to those indicated on the keys.
Pleeeeze tell me how to reset the keyboard to default.

With thanks, Danny.

Answer:Keyboard keys of Tecra A2 typing wrong symbols?

Hi mate,

it could be that you have a wrong keyboard map. A keyboard map is like a draft for your hardware which identfies which char is displayed when you hit a key on your keyboard.
Keyboard maps a depending which language you use so if the symbols on the screen do not match the input of your typing then it could be that a wrong keyboard map is set.

In such case you will have to set another keyboard language.

To change the keyboard map you must do the following:
Click Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Regional and Language options -> Click on the Tab "Languages" -> Details -> Choose your input language which matches your keyboard

Good luck and nice weekend

Hi, I bought a Lenovo Essential G580 on 15th May 2013. Everything was working perfectly until yesterday when my keyboard started to type random characters. I had just put my laptop to sleep on the night of 20th July 2013 and when I switched on the laptop on the evening of 21st July 2013 the keyboard started typing random stuff. There has been no spillage on the laptop as its safely covered on my table and I am the only one living in my room. Also to make sure its not because of a software glitch, I tried the following: 1. Restarted the system multiple times2. Went to an earlier System restore point. (Tried 5 different one's)3. Refreshed the system4. Took a backup and Formatted the whole hard disk and reinstalled Windows.5. Switched off the laptop for the night and tried switching it on today morning. None of the above helped. So obviously it is not a software problem. (FYI: The Onscreen Keyboard just works fine) A few example stuff which I get when I press the keys: CAPS Lock: WX (When I press Caps lock key it types WX along with it so the pattern goes like this: WXwxWXwxWXwx and so on if you keep pressing caps lock)q: When I press q its types a tab with qwm: its types yum instead of mw: works like caps lock key. hi bijoy3d,

Welcome to the Forums.

What you can try is to reseat the keyboard ribbon (see page 49-51 of the hardware maintenance manual). If that doesn't work, there's really something wrong with the physical keyboard and you need to contact lenovo support for service.

Answer:Lenovo G710 numpad keys "1" "5" write extra letter "a"

You may want to take a can of computer air and gently blow out dust and debris from under the keys. Do this carefully and with low pressure as too much will lift off individual keys. Also - make sure no liquid has been spilled onto the keyboard. If so you may need to take it to a service center for cleaning or replacement.Good luck.

Hello there. Yesterday, I bought the Ideapad 310-15isk, and it's phenomenal in many aspects. However, I'm a bit bothered by the extensive keyboard this laptop has, most importantly, the pagination commands on the arrow keys. I've been meaning to find a solution to disable those and just make them work on the Numpad since it's really bothersome to type on and then go all the way back because of the return pagination key. Is there any solution for this to unbind those commands only on the arrow keys?

Hi there, and thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer! This problem is really frustrating because I have important things I need to do asap and I am prevented from doing them.

EDIT: It seems the problem is exclusive to Firefox... I never use IE so I didn`t think to check until now, but yup, it`s just Firefox.

The problem is my keyboard. I was just posting in a discussion forum and going to hit the square bracket again to quote someone. But I think I hit something at the same time as pressing that key, as I was going for the A key but instead I hit around the shift key. So I think I hit the square bracket key plus the shift key or something around there, at once. Or perhaps a combination of three keys.. or perhaps this has nothing to do with the problem at all.. or for all I know I have a virus (although I have been scanning a lot lately and all seems clean). And now here is the problem:

left square bracket gives me nothing if I press it once, and if I press it twice: ^^
right square bracket gives me nothing if I press it once, and if I press it twice:
quotation mark: ` (ex: I don`t.. notice this is not the same as a usual quotation mark)
shift + two gives me " instead of the AT for e-mails

exclamation mark: oh, apparently this still works! lol
right slash (I think it is right, could be left I guess, I`m not sure which is which):
left slash: <

"Regional Settings | Regional Options (select you country/location and language) | goto Advanced tab and select your language again"

Hello Bleeping Computer people!

Computer with the problem is a desktop. HP Pavilion Model number a4327c-b. Windows 7.

My problem: Keyboard keys unexpectedly stop tying text and instead, pressing a key, activates a function.

For example typing the F key opens the File menu. Tested with a second keyboard and had the same problem.  Problem started unexpectedly, without warning. Problem occurs when surfing the web and playing free online games at MSN and other popular sites.

Mouse works. Norton Security Suite working.

Temporary fix: Opened the On Screen Keyboard and pinned it to Task Bar. Opening and minimizing the On Screen Keyboard fixes the problem for a few minutes but then the problem reoccurs. Problem seems to reoccur when surfing the web and playing free online games at MSN and other popular sites.

Descriptions: Of how the problem effects these programs:

Outlook: Can’t open New Message. When forwarding an email can’t address it or type text. Keyboard keys act as if they are function keys. For example typing F opens the File Menu. Other keys open other Outlook functions/menus.

Word 2007: Can’t type in a Document. Type F key and Office Button opens.  Other keys activate other Word functions.

Internet Explorer: In all Search boxes, can’t type. F key opens File menu. Other keys effect other menus.

Thank you for any help you can provide,
Craig

Any suggestions here?

My toddler has just pulled off a load of keyboard buttons from my notebook (300 n200 mn:0769). most have clipped back on but the tab and w keys are missing the little cradle bracket things (sorry not very technical!) so cant be attached onto the keyboard. Can anyone please help with finding parts? I had a look around the website but all i can find are compatable USB keyboards for the notebook  thanks in advance Angela

Answer:3000 n200 0769 replacement keyboard keys?

Unfortunately there is no replacement for individual keys, you will have to buy a replacement keyboard from the ebay, just search for "keyboard Lenovo 3000 N200", then you could proceed to change it yourself by following the instruction in the video link below. http://www.lenovoservicetraining.com/ion/N200/index.html If you really can't do it, then you could just go to some computer shop with your laptop and the replacement keyboard, ask for their assistance. If all else fails, you should call Lenovo in UK and ask them do it for you, which probably is going to cost around 200 pounds including shipping and replacement keyboard.

I have had this keyboard for around 2 years now, and it has always been functioning pretty well. Now, when I try to use the volume control keys on my keyboard they don't work anymore. I have the correct driver for my Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 3000 v.2, and the most up to date Intellitype software needed for the keyboard from the Microsoft website. All the other keys on my keyboard are functioning but the volume control keys. Any help would be appreciated!

Answer:Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 3000 v. 2 not responding to all keys

It seems that I've solved my own problem. After searching around on the internet I found this link "Resolve Hotkeys or Volume control keys not working on Microsoft keyboards"

After going through all the methods recommended, the fourth one worked out for me. The problem was that my Human Interface Device Access was not on. The volume controls started working for me.

Just a couple of days ago, some keys stopped being recognised on my Lenovo 3000 N100, which I have set up as dual boot with Windows XP (sp3, 32-bit) and Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS (64-bit). Both Windows & Linux are affected, but in slightly different ways, so it doesn't seem to be a driver problem. Keys affected are:  Ctrl(left), F1, Delete/NmLk, PrtSc and (the one to the left of 1). Luckily my Ctrl(right) is still working properly. However, under Ubuntu, I can use Ctrl-c within Firefox to copy (and then paste into a terminal) althought Ctrl-c does not work in other apps - so it doesn't seem to be a H/W problem either.Strangely, using Linux's xev, none of the affected keys cause an event. So far I have googled pages and pages and tried out numerous suggestions, including setting the bios to default, un-plugging the power, taking the battery out and pressing the start button, and even re-flashing the bios.Result:  No change. Any help would be much appreciated!

Answer:Lenovo 3000 N100 - some keys not recognised

Hi Lop1,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that the Keyboard key are not responding as expected in your Lenovo 3000 N100 Laptop, I suggest you to install one OS (Operating System) in the computer and also let me inform you dual boot is not recommended by Lenovo, as pre-installed applications and features are programmed to perform on single platform to provide the best performance as per OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer). Please let me know if the issue is same with one OS.

Hope to hear back

Best Regards

Shiva Kumar

Howdi all, haven't been on here for a while but just come across a problem with a new laptop my friend got delivered yesterday and wondered if you good people knew if there is a fix or not. When he types any of the bottom row of keys (z to m) he gets the next letter on screen instead ie, if he presses the 'm' key he gets the 'n' letter. All the other keys on the keyboard are fine its just the bottom row thats doing it.To me it sounds like the laptop is a dud but thought I would ask on here first. Thanks for any help

I am an accountant and brought some work home yesterday. I bought a USB number pad and it worked fine, but a lot of my work I need to use letters too, and with the numlock on I can't use the keys. Are all number pads like this? I would really like to use my keypad on the laptop for letters and the number pad for numbers. Please advise. Thanks.

Answer:Can I use the letter keys on my laptop with a USB number pad?

My wife started bringing work home and was in a similar situtation as you with the need to enter a lot of number data. We bought a Targus Model PAUK100U USB numeric keypad for her HP notebook. Windows Vista automatically detected it and added some needed human interface drivers without the need for any set-up CD.

It has its own Num Lock key and indicator light that appear to override the Num Lock function on the notebook. With Num Lock enabled on the external keypad, the Num Lock light on the computer stays off but momentarily flashes when an external number key is pressed. The dual function alpha/numeric keys on the notebook enter letters when pressed.

Just letting you know our results. No guarantee that the keypad will work the same way on your computer.

EDIT: My wife also prefers using a regular mouse over the notebook's touch pad. The Targus keypad has two USB expansion ports and she plugs a USB mouse into one of them.

Answer:My sony laptop alpa keys are giving numbers

Look for a button on the laptop marked 'num lock' and press it once - that should return the keyboard to normal. The reason is that smaller laptop keyboards, without a numeric pad, use standard keys as a temporary number pad when needed, you probably just accidentally pressed it, or someone may have been messing with the BIOS to enable it by default at startup."I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..."

Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 3000 v.2.0 Favorites Open Firefox not in IE9.

How do I get the favorites 1,2,3,4,5 keys to open URL's in IE9 not Firefox?

Answer:Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 3000 v.2.0 Favorites Keys Open in Firefox not in IE9

Whatever method you use to open your web-browser, your default web browser will open. So you need to make IE9 your default web browser.

Or, if the keyboard was supplied with software, you may need to make sure that the keyboard is set to open Internet Explorer using that software's settings.

Suddenly as of this morning multiple keys on my laptop type their own key but also other characters. It mostly is just additional symbols rather than letters and tends to be the characters next door which they type.

For example:
1) typing 'p' gives 'p['
2) typing '0' gives '0-'
3) typing '-' gives '0-' also
4) typing '.' gives './'
5) typing '/' gives './' also
6) typing ';' gives ';''
7) and vice versa
Also num pad is not working!

So in short it's like a number of adjacent keys have become fused to each other.

I have tested this and it occurs in all programs and windows. On screen keyboard works fine though.

I have so far uninstalled the device driver rebooted and let it reinstall - changed nothing.

Can anybody help?
Thanks
Henry

Answer:Laptop keys also typing adjacent characters

Do you have another keyboard you can plug in and try? That will tell you if it's the keyboard (problem will not show with replacement) or the keyboard-to-PC interface (problem will persist with replacement). If you don't have an extra yourself, maybe you can borrow one from a friend /family/colleague/neighbor...?

Also whenever I press the b or n key it begins doing the same thing and types periods without stopping. I've tried cleaning the keayboard, but that didn't work. Hello all! So I looked around the forums for an answer before I posted, and I found a topic that was about this same problem. The person finally solved the problem by system restoring their laptop to before September 19th. I did this and disabled automatic update installation, and I was fine. Then yesterday my dad was using my laptop to look something up. Apparently he thought it would be "helpful" to install any updates I had, and he updated my laptop before he gave it back. Today the problem came back, where I'll be typing and my keyboard will decide to give me numbers instead of letters. I tried another system restore, but it didn't list any days before the beginning of October as options, no matter how hard I looked, so I can't possibly restore to before September 19th. Is there any way I can get rid of this problem, or did my dad just ruin my laptop?

Hello The keyboard of my Lenovo 3000 N200 laptop has developed a fault. It uses XP Pro A few keys have started to map to the wrong letters 't' is displayed as 'tb''y' as 'yn''b' as 'tb' and'n' as 'yn' This is both in lower and upper case and affects all software including at the Dos prompt. All the other letters are OK Also, 'Backspace' deletes 1 character but leaves the cursor in its original position'Space' does nothing at all unless it is held down and then I get repeated spaces with no carriage return! This is also the same effect when holding down the Backspace. I have checked the Language settings in Control Panel but everything looks OK Any ideas on what is wrong and how I can get back to the original correct mappings? Thanks Steve

Whenever I type out the letters n, it comes out at 6n. B comes out as 5b. 5 comes out as 5b and 6 comes out as 6n.I had just recently went out to a local quickfixus repair center and for about 2-3 weeks, the keyboard was fine. Now, it's back to being this way. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Answer:Lenovo 3000 n100 keyboard problem

I am having this identical problem. It just started randomly yesterday - I didn't spill anything on the laptop or drop it. I called Lenovo support and the agent tried to help me as best he could. We went through a number of options like resetting the BIOS and testing the Fn key, but nothing worked. I was under the impression this was a software error (using default Vista installation, but I have seen this error pop up on the Ubuntu (linux) forums as well, so it could be a hardware or BIOS problem. I tried using an external USB keyboard and that worked fine - again making me think this could be a problem related to the physical laptop keys. What apparently happens is that  when you press a few certain keys, like 5,N,6,B or a couple others. It causes them to both register in the computer. So for instance, if you press B the computer registers 5 and B being pressed together and 5B comes up on screen. I really noticed this in the Lenovo diagnostics (F11 when computer boots) while doing the keyboard test. When you press (i.e.) B, the test shows that both 5 and B have been pressed. Has anyone else had this problem and had a resolution. I might consider that something has simply shorted out, but the similarity (exact same keys) between this, the original poster and a couple others I have seen on the net makes me think it could be something else.

Hello, The problem with my keybord is that a block of buttons doesn't work for 90% of time (sometimes for a short time keys are functional). I cannot use space button, enter button, backspace button, print screen button, right shift button. I replugged the keyboard but the problem still exists. My question is: is this a problem with a keyboard itself (then I will buy a new one) or could it be more complicated (problem with an internal part of computer responsible for communication with the keybord) ?

due to software issue, restart your computer and when you see lenovo logo press f8 to load on safe mode.
then check if the issue persists. if so, right click my computer > manage > device management >keyboard > find your keyboard > right click and remove the device and restart your computer on normal mode.

check if the issue still persists. if so, your keyboard may be about to die. you can change your keyboard, if still the issue persists, i can say you're having trouble with mainboard or/and connectors for keyboard.

ps: if you remove the keyboard again, do not forget to clean. ( for dust )

Answer:Lenovo 3000 n200 - Keyboard issue

Hello,  Yes, if USB keyboard is doing the same thing it's not a hardware issue. Could be issue with a virus, try Spybot Search & Destroy. Could be issue with your Windows. Windows XP installations don't last long, why not do a clean install?   -Alex

Hi all, Ever since i got my laptop about 20 mths ago, I've had some difficulty a particular keyboard shortcut.I am a Firefox user, and of course the CTRL+T shortcut opens a new tab. However, every time I try to use it (whilst in Firefox), it instead tries to open the EZVCR program that came packaged with the system (EZVCR is a TV viewing program that requires a USB antenna attachment). This happens 100% of the time, even when firefox is the only application running (and EZVCR is not obviously open). I don't know how to re-bind this shortcut to the far more useful function of openingnew tabs in my browser... any one know how tofix this? Cheers!

Hey Everyone, Glad to be part of the Growing Lenovo Community. I recently purchased a pre-loved Lenovo Laptop at a very reasonable price. True Enough, there have been some problems but at the Price I bought it for these were all acceptable...(think: 512 MB RAM, 80 GB Locked HDD - no unlock code, a bit of wear and tear, no camera)... These were all Fine, I've upgraded it to 2 GB RAM, placed a new HD - 160 GB, cleaned it a bit etc... Now it looks Good as New. Now the Problem: The Laptop is ready except that it doesn't have Drivers... I know, I know, Weird how a laptop was sold without drivers, but the desperation of my friend to sell the laptop and my eagerness to buy it from the desperate fool got the better of me.... Now I Don't Have any drivers at all.. I can't connect to the wireless internet, I can't even connect to LAN.... The Audio Doesn't have a driver as well... Can anyone help me find the equivalent of the Chinese Lenovo C461L and help me with the driver installation. I;d really like to get this "baby" back on track... and online.....

Answer:Hot Question: Lenovo 3000 Laptop from China. Is it Lenovo C461L?

I've did probably reversible damage to my laptop keyboard, I popped up a key on a the keyboard after noticing it was a little weird that it took a very solid press onto the keyboard to force that key to work. So I popped it out and was unable to replace the key. Now I've tried the common solution of push it back in place however it will not remain in the socket. Which I assumed there was a trick or a mechanism to lock it back in. After searching through the Lenovo support and the Lenovo forums I have concluded there is no visual samples to do this other than the one post regarding this same problem which was also as informative as ' just push in it '. I've included a slightly blurry photo that i took with the lenovo webcam to see if this is a unsalvagable problemParts are The left key on the keyboard about 1.6~cm by 1.0cma white plastic piece with an open side square about 1cm biga black plastic square piece also 1cm biga grey plastic rectangle piece which is 0.9cm by 0.6~cm big http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/5339/piecesre2.jpgpicture more blurry than i thought i failed to mention that this laptop is aLenovo 3000 Y410 Message Edited by Malty on 09-27-2008 01:47 AM

how to correct the key

Answer:Win 7 laptop keyboard cannot type letter A

Generic question, generic answer.A single key not working is probably a problem in the keyboard itself. If under warranty, bring/send it back (after backing up your files) for repair/replacement. If not, you can try a driver update from your manufacturer's website, but I am not confident that a software update if really the answer here. You may have to have a factory authorized service center repair/replace the keyboard and pay for it (if it is reasonably new but out of warranty).((Unless anyone else disagrees with me on this))You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane. If all else fails, read instructions.

welcome to the forum! is your '@' key located on the right side of the keyboard near the 'enter' key?   if this is the case then you need to set a different keyboard layout in your operating system.   what OS are you using?

Hi, I'm reporting the same problem as this user back in February of this yearhttp://forum.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=N_Series_Lenovo_3000&message.id=10751 I have exactly the same problem - I have owned my N200 for 12 months and 20 days (so just out of warranty!) and now I have a problem with the keyboard. 8 keys - the TAB, CAPSLK, Left Shift, Backspace, T, Y, [, ] won't work in BIOS or after I have booted in to Windows (XP SP2) but an external USB keyboard works fine. The problem was intermittent in the morning but then I couldn't get these keys to work at all. After reading the above post I tried holding down the backspace key - and yes it resolved the problem for a while. I can understand a keyboard fault but not how holding down the backspace key for a while can resolve this! Please help

Yesterday (30th July) all the keys on my keyboard suddenly stopped working. Over the next few hours about half of them came back but about 24 hours later missing about a third to half of my keys. For example the row beginning with qwerty is instead: qeynuiop[/] instead of qwertyuiop[]. Also some of my keys have doubled up for example if i press y or n I get yn. This message is typed on an external USB keyboard, but it's inconvenient. The touchpad is working fine. Could someone please help? On another note does anyone know how to find a local servicing place. I tried the Lenovo service provider thing and it didn't work. Somewhere near Cambridge, UK needed.

Answer:Lenovo 3000 N200 Internal Keyboard not working

there is probably a keyboard connection fault... you could try to replace the keyboard, but you will need to buy it off some third party resellers, there are some online resellers.

Answer:Lenovo 3000 N100 - Problem with keyboard. Most Unusual

i have a similar situation with the same notebook the only difference is that the set of keys for my notebook are different that stop working after careful observation for over one month i have found out that this is (probably) related to overheating of the notebook if the CPU temperatures remain below 60 degrees celcius all is fine on my notebook, once they go above this mark the keys stop functioning like the caps lock, TAB, right shift key , T, Y , [ ] and backspace the keeps are working right now because the CPU temps are at 58 degrees celcius  i am using a cooling pad which has helped reduce my CPU temps by 8-10 degrees however since i live in a very hot city (Lahore, Pakistan) with temperatures soaring to 50 degrees celcius!!! unfortunately i have to sit under an air conditioner to keep my keys working i hope this helps you as i was quite frustrated with this problem myself, now that i (think) i know what is the cause i aint frustrated!!!!

I'm having a strange problem with the keyboard on a newly acquired Lenovo 3000 N200 0769. The notebook came to me from work, it had been messed up trying to remove Vista, and it wouldn't boot from the CD or enter the BIOS, it was just stuck trying to run Rescue and Recovery over-and-over without a working service partition.   I've managed to get Windows7 installed on the machine and it working fine except for a couple of things.  The touchpad doesn't work (not recognised by the system) .  I suspect hardware in this case, so I've got a replacement touchpad coming.   The bigger problem is the keyboard.  It doesn't work at all when the machine boots up.  This means I can't enter the BIOS, and I can't press "any key" to boot from a CD.  As soon as Windows (or Ubuntu, which I used to help recover the machine) loads the keyboard driver, the keyboard springs to life and works perfectly (I'm typing this message on the keyboard) Because the keyboard works perfectly when drivers are installed, I'm inclined to think that the keyboard hardware is OK.  With Windows installed, I've upgraded the BIOS to the latest version, with no change to the problem.    I've tried using a USB keyboard (before flashing the BIOS), but it doesn't work either until the operating system loads.  I've also tried resetting the BIOS using the contact in the harddrive compartment.  This causes the BIOS to complain and offer F1 or F2, b... Got the problem solved. I was the dodgy touchpad.  Got one off of eBay amd just finished installing it 10 minutes ago.  The keyboard works properly from the moment the machine starts, and the touchpad is recognised and working properly as well. Cheers John
